The Eagle's Club is proud to present Eagles Cup, an invitational trophy contested by the winners of the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy and the Cup of Champions hosted by the Eagles Club. 16+ esteemed nations from throughout the multiverse will compete over 9 Matchdays to lift the Eagle's Cup and earn their place in the Eagle's Club, securing their place as a competitor and potential host in future editions of the tournament.

Format :: The 16* nations will be split into two 8-team sub-competitions. Each competition will have two groups where 4 teams will play each other nation twice*, once at a stadium of their choosing and once at a stadium of their opponents choosing. The first sub-competition is the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy which traces direct lineage to the original Eagle's Cup including the representatives from the Eagle's Club and At-Large entrants. The second sub-competition is the Cup of Champions, tracing a direct lineage to the... Cup of Champions... and representing only WCC Sanctioned, Major Event & Select Confederation Champions. From there, the top 2 nations in each group table will advance to the Semi-Final round of each half to be held at official Eagle's Club locations. The winners of these Semi-Final matches will receive a special trophy from the Eagle's Club that also grants the nations honorary status with the Eagle's Club for one competition cycle and advance to the Final of their half. The winners of the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy and Cup of Champions will advance to the Eagle's Cup Championship match presented by Cocoa-bo where the winner will be crowned overall champion and granted permanent entry into the Eagle's Club and construction of an official Eagles Club venue. A third place playoff will also be contested back at the Eagle's Club where medals for the Top Three finishers in the overall will be awarded.

Tiebreakers: Pts > GD > H2H > H2H Pts > H2H GD
AI RP policy: As stated in the World Cup 93 bid thread:

Editing an RP spat out by an AI chat engine: Grey area. Please avoid this, though we also recognise this is the grey area for which debates will be had. We are more likely than not to give these kinds of RPs a pass, since they have been transformed to some extent by the co-author of the RP.

RP PROMPTS
The full text of RP prompts will be released before the respective cutoff. This means that MD 3/4's RP prompt will be released after MD 1/2's cutoff, and vice versa. A bonus prompt will be released to make up for the lack of a fourth cutoff in the group stage, which has been the norm for previous Eagles' Cups. No extra RP bonus will be offered for writing according to these prompts; they are just here to provide some extra flavour.

MD1/2: TAKE ME DOWN TO THE BALL GAME — Stadiums. They're where the game is played. Sometimes, at least. Some of us love them, some hate them, some just don't really care. We've all heard of the biggest stadiums in your country, but tell us about the weird and wacky. That stadium that's built on the side of a cliff? Into the mountain? Has three stands and then the fourth row's just a bunch of people's houses? That stadium that's actually built for a different sport but has a football stadium shoved inside it? That one time they raced cars inside your football stadium? Ownership disputes, the weirdest names, the strangest occurrences? Tell us all about it!
Non-sports version: What are some of the biggest or most famous public spaces in your nation? What are their histories, and how did they gain their status?

BONUS PROMPT: "FIT" AND "PROPER" "PERSONS" — Football's seen its fair share of great owners. Football's also seen more than its fair share of not-so-great owners. Tell us about the time one of your country's sports teams fell victim to a dodgy sponsorship deal. Or were bought by a dodgy owner. Or were treading on the wrong side of the law. All those suspicions, all those controversies, all those conspiracy theories that have been bubbling below the surface for all these years. Let's hear about some of them, no matter how lurid they sound.
Non-sports version: We all know about conspiracy theories — what are some of the most famous ones involving your nation? What do they involve? How did they get there?

MD3/4: JUST IN TIME FOR TEA — You're at the stadium, you've been to the toilet...and you're in your seat. But bugger it all, you're hungry. Irritating human function, that. So you pop off to the stadium food stall for a bit of food, and...what do you find? Local delicacies? Tea? The most disgusting, flavourless food that a person could ever connive to cook? Do the peasants in the normal seats get the same type of food as those in those padded, heated seats? What kind of food do your sports club serve, and how expensive are they? Tell us all about it. Or, if you're watching the game at home, or somewhere else (a pub), what do you get? Can you even watch the game on television? Are there arbitrary rules on what games can or cannot be shown on television?
Non-sports version: What are the staple foods and drinks of your country? Do your people rely on ride-delivery apps, or do they prefer to cook? Any special mealtimes that deviate from the (assume it's standard) standard three-meal day? Any special beverages in your country?

MD5/6: WE HAVE BEATEN THEM ALL! — No game of football watched at home is complete without the presence of the colour commentator. And such personalities they have, too. Who are some of the most famous colour commentators, or pundits, even, in your country? Are there any particularly memorable moments in your country's sporting history that have immortalised commentator lines? What about pundits in general? How are they treated? Are they respected for their breadth and depth of footballing knowledge, or are they just on screens to drive eyes and chat shit? Tell us all about football on the small screen — how it's broadcast, who broadcasts it, who talks about it, and how it's viewed.
Non-sports version: Countries often have a form of public broadcasting company that's funded by taxpayers. Is that the case in your country? How did it come about? How does it operate, and what are their mandates? Do they have people obsessing over their news coverage? What are their responsibilities, and in an era of competition, how have they stayed relevant? In a language with only twenty-six letters, how does your country avoid being confused for another country's broadcasting company?

FIRST KNOCKOUT ROUND: SEAGULLS, TRAWLERS AND SARDINES — Footballers, as do most sportspeople in general, tend to be fairly weird people. Some fancy themselves philosophers; some are too thick to string together five words into a sentence. Or maybe it's those concussions. Hmm. Anyway, what are the most outrageous personalities that have graced the sporting world of your country? Whether it be as a player, coach, or even administrator? What are some of the weirdest things they've said? Did they imply that the press were seagulls chasing after trawlers for sardines being thrown into the sea? Did a coach pick a player for an important tournament on a whim, because they'd seen that player in a dream? What are some of the whackiest, most out-of-pocket things your sporting personalities have said?
Non-sports version: Every country has its own figures of speech, idioms, synonyms, metonyms, metaphors, what-have-you-nots. What are some of the ones that are unique to your nation? Are they untranslatable? Would only people from within your country understand them, or are their meanings a bit more general?

SEMI FINALS: YOU DON'T LIKE TO TOUCH BALLS? — And finally, managers. We love them; we hate them. What are some of the most amazing things your managers have done? The most successful, the most controversial? Did they have particularly controversial tenures or statements made during their clubs? Who are the most famous managers in your country, and how did they achieve their status?
Non-sports version: How is health education done in your country? How young does it start from, and what topics are covered?

There will be no prompt for the final.

NEPHARA
World Ranking:
11th, ish
Preferred Formation: 4-2-3-1
Secondary Formation: 4-4-2
Style Modifier: -1
Home Stadium: The Farham Arena in Sabrefell is reserved for the biggest games, but Nephara is a large enough country that it spreads its matches across the nation.
Kit Supplier: Kirola
Nickname: The Cormorants

Igrene Cantor's stocks have taken a slight dent, but mostly in a way that raises spectres of the past. Last World Cup, Nephara only barely qualified through a last-moment surge and were then fairly indifferent after a storming 4-1 opening win; reaching the semifinals of the Copa Rushmori was a step in the right direction, but an indifferent showing at the Eagles' Cup has caused serious doubts over Nephara's depth of quality in attack. Regardless; it's Nephara, and Nephara are always among the favourites, even if Radeka Lind is the last holdover from the Golden Age.

Overall Record
671 wins - 133 draws - 162 losses
2246 scored - 1145 conceded

Trophies

Eagle's Cup 5
4 Cope Rushmori - 30, 35, 36, 37
5 Campionati Esportiva - 6, 8, 10, 15 and 18
Only the second nation in history to achieve the 'Triple Crown' of WCC titles - represented by three stars on the crest.
The most major silverware of any nation in history.
Second in footballing ability only to 6PupperFunnerRunnies.

Tactics
Image
Nepharan football is based around playing hard, pressing aggressively, playing for keeps. Occasionally this leaves gaps behind the high defensive line, though most Nepharan goalkeepers are in the sweeping mould these days to compensate. Marchers are, by and large, a physically imposing folk, and eager to throw their size around. The footballing culture is intensely competitive, and those that survive to make their way to the top are hellbent on winning at any cost. Elbows to the face. Subtle digs in the ribs. Diving is dishonest when opponents do it but streetwise when Nepharim do it. In short, Nephara are the bully from two years above who picked you, specifically, out as a natural target.

That is often the foreign perspective, but it overlooks a key fact; Nepharan football can honestly be beautiful to watch. Generations of players brought up on dry plains or asphalt play the ball quickly and fearlessly along the ground, never sideways when there's a forward option open, always looking to stretch and probe and stay one really good pass away from a goal. Nepharim are undoubtedly physical, even cynical, but their success has been built off the backs of ruthless, fast-paced passing football.

The Godhead
For home matches, and during international tournaments, Nephara wheels out the 'Godhead', a giant boulder with an eerie resemblance to Gethin Ramsey, first manager of the Cormorants in the modern era and by now long dead. Nepharim have a superstitious streak, and while nobody's saying it is, in fact, the mystic reincarnation of their most iconic leader, nobody's quite not saying it, either. The Godhead is traditionally 'walked' to the stadium by Nepharan ultras using an intricate series of ropes, and often a flare is wedged into its 'mouth' to simulate a smoking cigar.

Staff
Manager - Igrene Cantor - Age 54
Assistant Manager - Valery Cain - Age 58
One of the few people to have won the World Cup as both a player and a manager, Igrene Cantor excels at building chemistry and a true, tight-knit unit, squeezing the absolute most out of the parts available to her. An absolute dream to a Nephara side that can often be less than the sum of its parts. Cantor thinks of each player in terms of what they bring to the complete picture, not just as a rating out of a hundred; she won't just pick the best eleven players, but a coherent, fully functioning squad that would die for each other on the pitch. Cain is an odd choice of assistant manager, a journeyman manager across Nephara's pyramid, yet somehow Cantor clearly sees a kindred spirit.

Team Cassadaigua- Eagles Cup 16

Coach- Chen Huikang (56)

The post Brittany Byers era begins with the first international manager hired to coach the national team since Alexander Pappas led the team. Pappas only led the team to World Cup champions in the 50th and 51st editions, so while the expectations will not be to duplicate that right away, the nation is confident with him at the helm. In all of Cassadagan sports, he is only the second international manager to be taken on. The other was Maddie Polanco in baseball, who also ultimately led Cassadaigua to a title. Chen has experience with the national team of his homeland, Yuezhou, and his domestic record includes a successful stint with CSKA Quebec. With several key Cassadagan players also playing in Quebec, that was also seen as an asset. Chen likes an attacking style, and should fit in just fine. Led the team to the Copa Rushmori 43 title.

Assistant- Kimberly Carson (45) (Winchester City)

It may not have been easy for CASE to find an assistant to Chen, as some of the top domestic candidates for the position may have felt a little slighted that they did not get the head coaching job. Hannah Shanley, the longtime assistant to Brittany Byers, took her name out of the running right away, saying that she would only want the head job. Also, Jessica Tolson, another top candidate did similar. This leaves Carson, who was successful with the national team for multiple Cups and has since moved on and made Winchester City more of a title threat within the CSL. The defender will focus on that aspect of play to coincide with Chen's attacking mindset.

Starters in Green
Subs in Blue
Reserves in Red

Goalkeepers:
#20- Stacie Thornton (29) (New Lakeland Soccer Club)- Starter WC 92 & 93, CR 41, Sub WC 91, Reserve WC 90 & CR 40, Sub DBC 51
#40- Stacey Schalberg (24) (Grande Mountain)- Reserve CR 41
#30- Erica Knapp (22) (Concord Heights City)- Reserve WC 93

Stacie Thornton is in the prime of her career and not the reason why the nation failed to qualify for the last World Cup. You can argue that she was the main reason that the team even had a chance in the last matchday to possibly still make the playoff. She had a fantastic Copa Rushmori, and will continue to start here.

Defenders:
#2- Madison Rutland (28) (Starksville Coastal)- Starter WC 91-93 , CR 40-42, DBC 51 & 52 (TEAM CAPTAIN)
#28- Tiffany Brown (23) (Starksville Coastal)- Sub WC 93 & CR 42
#3- Alyssa Marlin (23) (Winchester City)- Starter WC 93, Sub CR 42
#6- Rachel Becker (24) (New Lakeland SC)- Starter WC 93 & CR 42, Sub WC 92, Reserve CR 41

#4- Brianna Ward (30) (Victoriaville South End)- Starter WC 91-93, CR 40-42 & DBC 51, Sub CR 39
#21- Hailey Meyer (26) (Kingston FC, Quebec)- Sub WC 92 & 93, Starter DBC 52 & CR 42

#38- Michelle Lawson (21) (Winchester City)
#45- Maddie Hertel (24) (White Mountain)

There are no surprises with the starters on this roster. Three of the four also started in the World Cup, and are still up and coming players. Tiffany Brown is the newcomer to the starting lineup, but she got quite a bit of playing time in the last World Cup, and made quite an impression. Being teammates with Madison Rutland domestically will only benefit this team over the long haul. Alyssa Marlin is quickly becoming one of the top defenders in the country, and her being assigned a new lower kit number, #3, shows that the team expects her to be here a while. Rachel Becker is the strongest of these players, and provides a needed physical element. That will be something that people might hear more about as the competition progresses.

Midfielders:
#8- Krystal Sherwin (30) (Northern Union, Brenecia)- Starter WC 90-93, DBC 51, CR 39-42
#37- Kaitlin Millikan (23) (Concord Heights City)- Sub CR 42 & WC 93, Reserve WC 92
#39- Jenna Stokley (23) (New Lakeland SC)- Sub WC 93, Reserve WC 92 & CR 42

#46- Lauren Engle (18) (Montreal Koreana, Quebec)- Starter RTC 18
#47- Chrissy Engle (18) (Shirley Metros Ladies FC, Baker Park)- Starter RTC 18
#48- Rachel Wyman (18) (Montreal City, Quebec)- Starter RTC 18

#49- Sierra Torres (22) (Concord Heights Suburban)- International Debut
#50- Kayla Carras (19) (Sterling Heights)- International Debut

The midfield was the undoing of the team in the last World Cup, and the only starter that is going to return from that group is Krystal Sherwin. Morgan Rosenblatt is still playing at her age, but she has lost a step, and it showed. Kelsey Werth was inconsistent, but still may be in the mix for further consideration. Millikan did impress in the latter half of qualifying, and had a strong Cup of Harmony. The Engles and Wyman being part of this team was a little surprising at their ages, and if they do well, they may be in the World Cup sooner than expected. Sierra Torres gets lost in the shuffle sometimes, and if Kayla Carras is on the pitch, be advised that she is a physical bruiser.

Forwards:
#43- Lexi McGregor (21) (Starksville United)- Sub WC 93, CR 42, Reserve WC 92
#34- Lacey Sherwood (21) (Rutland Dockside)- Reserve WC 93 & CR 42
#29- Shannon Cunningham (20) (Alino, Chromatika)- Sub WC 93 & CR 42

#19- Chloe Anderson (26) (Montreal Koreana, Quebec)- Starter WC 92 & 93, CR 40-42 & DBC 51, Sub WC 90 & 91
#12- Carly Patterson (27) (Grande Mountain)- Starter WC 93, CR 42, DBC 52, Sub WC 92, Reserve WC 91, CR 41

#27- Allyson Perry (26) (Winchester City)- Sub WC 92, CR 41, Starter DBC 52, Reserve WC 91, 93 & CR 42
#42- Danielle Watson (20) (Brattleboro Westside)- International Debut

The time is now for Lexi McGregor, though the bigger question will be how will Chen Huikang handle her prima donna attitude? Obviously, he knows that Lexi's performance will have a lot to do with his own success here, but Lexi is also well aware of that, so how will she approach that? Shannon Cunningham, personality wise, is the polar opposite of McGregor, being the responsible workhorse, though on the field, they have seemed to work well together. The third starter here being Sherwood was a little unexpected, as both Anderson and Patterson are downgraded to the substitute roles. Fans of them should not be too concerned, though, as this does not mean they wouldn't be World Cup starters. Perry is used to her role as a reserve or sub at this point, but has been competent when given a chance. Rachel Boldin is nursing a leg injury, and will sit out the Eagle's Cup.

OOC: Response to Bonus Prompt

The upcoming war for Lakiska SC- when family patriach dies, succession crisis in store for Busoga's biggest club

When a club owner is 97 years old, there absolutely needs to be a succession plan in place, for the core of the club. And there is no question- Lakiska SC is certainly the biggest sporting club on the Busoga Islands. The only Islander side who has played in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League(the joint Farf/Banijan and everyone forgets, but also Busogan venture), and the one who is generally the most competitive in the BSL in trying to get back to the S-FPL, Lakiska SC's critical importance to the football, and general sporting, infrastructure of the Busoga Islands cannot be overstated.

The club of the Busogan capitol, of course, is a true sporting club. They failed in their latest efforts to get a gridiron team into the GFLB- the Gridiron Football League of Banija. But they are in the Banijan Lacrosse League, and much more importantly, are in the joint Damukuni/Busogan T20 cricket league, the Orange Sky Twenty20 Challenge. Of course, last season, Lakiska SC finished in dead last- but yet, they find themselves continuing to be probably the most popular team in the country.

But before we dive into the succession crisis, let's talk about the team's ownership history- fascinating.

Who started the Club?

Back when these Islands were still Banijan, it was started by a group of nationalists- that's how the club has always become symbolized with nationalist causes, first while it was part of the Kingdom, and even now, when it plays in the joint Banijan/Busogan pyramid (or should we call it the Busogan/Banijan pyramid?) But started by Busogan nationalists who were angry that, upon Banija's independence, any sort of autonomy for the Busoga Islands was not even considered. Of course, these weren't rich people- the nationalists were simply factory workers within the Busgoan capitol.

The club started off as a workers club, and stayed that way for a long time, for nearly 65 years- until it was sold up, of course, to Akkan Karan, shortly before the nationalization of club football within Banija- aka, the establishment of the original BSL. Being a workers club in the state league context works rather well- but not when a league is going truly national. There was no guarantee they would be included. ONe of the biggest 20 teams in the country? Certainly, but.. Don't underestimate a Banijan suit's determination to exclude a Busogan.

So the Karan family.

Who owns it now?

He owned the club through the entire original BSL era, and the first four seasons of the S-FPL era- and then when he died, the club passed over to his late wife, Sabiha Karan. He was a big fan- and so, of course, is she. Even at 97 years old, she's a frequent attendee at games, and while she's not going weekly, she's going generally to every other home game in her suite. She is more of a right-wing nationalist (most nationalism is left-wing in this country, although that's for reasons far more complicated than this article has time to get into), and much more Islamic- probably Busoga's most famous hijabi, for example.

Of course, she's 97. She's in good health, yes... But she's not going to live forever. And it's the succession of the club that's going to be the problem.

Are her children succeeding her?

The couple had three children. However, two of them died during the Banijan-Equestrian War, as freedom fighting partisans who were trying to help the Busogans overthrow the Kingdom. That leaves her with one living adult child- a son, Tigin Karan, who is childless himself. You'd think succession of club ownership would be easy here, right? He takes the club, and then he can either operate it or sell it.

Not exactly.

Here's the problem. She's designated her son, Tigin, as the successor. But Tigin would currently fail the Banijan Owners & Directors Test. Why would he fail? Well, he's had a quite... Wild upbringing. There are two major reasons why he would fail. The first major reason he would fail the basic test, even though obviously he doesn't have to come up with funds to buy the club, is that he's declared bankruptcy- four times. Not entirely something that will get you banned (the Busukuma Force owner has a bankruptcy on his record), but certainly something that'll give an automatic fail. And the second, of course, is that he's a felon- he got 4 years of jail time on the Islands in his 20s for running a lion poaching ring in Banija.

Of course, ownership of whatever league a team is in may vote, with a 3/5ths majority, to approve an ownership who fails the Owners & Directors Test. But that seems even less likely, because..

Tigin Karan was, and remains, an avid supporter of Nafuna Akongo.

And not just a supporter rhetorically, either. He gave her solid amounts of cash during the Kitaran Civil War. He even, mid war, flew out multiple times to support her cause. He even registered as a lobbyist of her government here in Lakiska. Not because he agreed with her politically- far from it, considering his own right-wing Islamic credentials. No, instead, he simply doesn't trust Banija- if Banija is for it, he's against it. He felt the war against her was imperialism to the extreme- and so he stood by her side.

So what are the battle lines?

It could depend on when she dies. Lakiska SC, of course, are currently in Banija's second tier. If they are in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League when the owner dies, it should not be a problem. Plenty of the S-FPL teams on the Banijan side have foreign owners, and even the bigger Banijan owned clubs, are probably willing to look past his discretions if its in the best interest of the stability of ownership of a team in the league. Of course, the problem remains- they are not in the S-FPL, and with there being only one promotion slot available every year, it remains difficult to get that promotion.

Of course, they are title contenders in the BSL every year- so certainly not impossible. But if Tigin's mother croaked while the team was a BSL club (far more likely), then it could give him a huge set of complications. A number of owners have asked his mother to change succession plans, or force a sale by her future estate- she, of course, has refused. It is setting up to be a Banijan v. Busogan battle- the Busogan clubs, and government, have backed Tigin. But he's got to get support among the other Banijan club owners.

He's trying- but he's a deeply unpopular man in Banija. Maybe could be forgiven for past discretions, but even the Banijan political class seems to oppose him due to his hardcore support for Nafuna Akongo.

So what would happen if Owners do not vote him in?

Legally, this would be an unprecedented situation. Complicated even further by the fact that Busogan Law, and RBSA regulations, would likely conflict. It certainly would turn ugly.

This is something that has never happened in Banijan history. Likely, the club would remain controlled by either her estate, or BISA, while decisions were hammered out.

So if you're a Lakiska SC fan? Pray for promotion, and pray for it to happen quickly, because otherwise, your club might be in a protracted ownership battle where the team has no owner- and you can see how that's diastrous for all involved...

OOC: Response to MDs1/2 Prompt

Mukegara Daily
Banija's Wizarding Community's only Daily Newspaper!

NKAJI, MUKEGARA- The Mukegara Tribe. Of course, who are we? For the vast majority of muggles, we are known as simply an eccentric tribe, one of few that has won the constitutional right to self-isolation. Also known as the smallest electoral constituency in Banija, one that elects exactly one member of the Lukiiko, if you're an aspiring Politico and you follow that kind of stuff. But of course, if you're one of the few out there who is part of their nation's magical wizarding community, then you see us as something different entirely.

You see us as we are- a fiercely strong, yet conquered, people. Living in Banija not because we want to be Banijans, or consider ourselves patriots in any sort of way- but simply, it's strictly a numbers thing. Of course, in Banija, only members of the Mukegara are magical- and we all live together, all 75,000 of us, living on our ancestral homeland along the present day border of Hangaza & Bunyoro, out in the mountains of eastern Banija. Because of Banija's religious fanaticism, of course, we don't dare reveal ourselves to the rest of the country- and we don't dare allow visitors or tourists here. You would even know how, if it wasn't for Starblaydian wizards, we might have been wiped out entirely.

We spread tales of hostility to prevent tourists, or missionaries, or whoever the hell else, from ever visiting this place. But even we understand- we can't complete hide ourselves off from the rest of this god forsaken country- even if we wanted to. So long ago, the decision was made to reveal the smallest bit of ourselves- although it is more of a front, than anything. We basically have a small area where tourists can visit, and it is built around our soccer team, the Mukegara Warriors- a club team that strictly exists almost entirely as a front. Everyone else thinks it's there to climb the ladder, like all the other regional league clubs- but we understand its there simply as a front, so people think we are normal and like soccer.

Of course, muggle sports are terrible. Imagine actually sitting and watching through a sport played entirely on the ground? No broomsticks? Awful. Don't even get me on handegg. But.. The fakeness of the team includes the stadium.

Jacques IX Stadium

Ironically, there is going to be a renaming ceremony of this to the Chrstine II Stadium at the start of next season- but, of course, we've just been behind the 8 ball. The Quebecois Ambassador won't be invited, naturally. But what's the deal with this 3,400 seater stadium? Why are we sitting here, talking about it?

Well, nobody's going to invest millions of Banijan shillings into building a stadium that people do not want to go to. So we've got temporary structures. How does that work? Well, this stadium, sitting at the bottom of a valley (extremely difficult to access as a muggle- of course, we can just apparate there) has stands brought in from the Mukegara quidditch pitch. Stands that are basically always on the move. We've got a 4 team quidditich league here- obviously, those stands are way up high in the sky. But we have wands, of course. We move them over, from the mountain to the valley, and attach them. And then, when everyone leaves, we move them back.

It's basically a fake stadium. And it makes for some very interesting situations. There's a reason that we only play home games on Friday nights. An exception granted to us, by the RBSA, to allow us to do that. Why do they think we do that? They think we do that because we're trying to harvest on the weekends. Fucking idiots lmao. The real reason of course is because we want to watch a REAL sport- Qudditch, with true athletes, who can actually and quite literally fly, on Saturdays and Sundays.

So you get it. The Warriors- fakest football team, fakest football ground. What a time!

Their best performance was during WC 90th where they reached final for the first time in the team's history. They were defeated by The Holy Empire in the final. In regional level, the team have managed to reached Semifinal in 9 consecutive Mandalanusa Cup (formerly Melayu Archipelago Cup). From that, their best performance was during the 6th, 7th and the latest 11th edition where they manage to finish as runner-up, defeated by Sharktail, Southern Palm Islands and Tecoia respectively. Their often-surprised defeats from lower ranked or newcomer nations in the region makes them be dubbed with Pemecutan Cursed. The latest defeat against Tecoia was so upsetting that the supporters rioting in the host's stadium. This incident makes Pemecutanian supporters are banned from CMFA sanctioned events. The Tumbran National Football Team is Tumbra's main representative in all association football competitions for national associations. Making its debut at the 87th World Cup Qualifiers, the team currently ranks 8th in the world. The team is controlled by the Tumbran Football Federation, which is also the governing body of football in Tumbra. Also known as the Black Eagles, or affectionately the Eagles, the team competes in the World Cup and its related competitions. The team also participates in the Campionato Esportiva, also sends teams to the Di Bradini Cup for Under-21s, and the Under-18 World Cup. The team have won the 51st edition of the former tournament and the 13th edition of the latter tournament; which has led to a keen emphasis on bleeding youth into the national team set-up early. With a loyal travelling contingent of supporters known as the Black Army, the Tumbran national team's support will be on display throughout this tournament, with lots of tifos and loud cheers expected throughout matches.

Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 702 games, as of the end of the 93rd World Cup Final. This is the beginning of the 21st World Cup cycle overall. We have entered in 18 previous World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80, WCQ82, WCQ84, WCQ85, WCQ86, WCQ87, WCQ88, WCQ89, WCQ90, WCQ91, WCQ92, WCQ93), and have successfully qualified for 13 out of the last 14 World Cups, famously missing World Cup 89 while we were ranked 5th in the world. We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in four different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, CoH 71, and CoH 81). In four Cups of Harmony, Banija has only once moved past the group stage, in CoH 81, and they promptly fell on penalties in the Round of 16. In their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point.

After not competing at all during the World Cup 78 Cycle due to the RBSA's bankruptcy, they re-entered the world of international football in World Cup 79 cycle. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages.

The World Cup 83 cycle was their strongest yet. Starting with AOCAF LVIII on home soil, co-hosted with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, the Kadongo Kamu won 6 consecutive matches to open the tournament, taking their winning streak all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were felled, 4-2, at home to their archrivals, the Equestrian States. Co-hosting World Cup 83 as well, the Banijans made a miraclous run at the World Cup, upending 5th ranked South Covelllo on penalties, and defeating the then two-time defending world champions Vilita in the quarterfinals, before falling, 3-2, at the national stadium to Starblaydia. They added to the trophy case, however, earning a bronze medal after defeating Cassadaigua in the 3rd place playoff game.

The World Cup 84 cycle, the first with real title expectations for the Banijans, was a disappointment in the regionals, as we fell 1-0 to Ko-oren in the AOCAF Round of 16, although we advanced to the quarterfinals of World Cup 84 before dropping to Eura in extra time. The World Cup 85 cycle seems to be a promise of hope for the Banijans. Although AOCAF LX was a rough tournament for the Banijans, it was surrounded by two excellent tournament performances for the Banijans. We won the U21 World Cup(DBC 47), and are just coming off earning our first ever senior-level trophy, by winning the 8th Eagle's Cup to be admitted as a full, permanent member of the Eagle's Club right before the beginning of World Cup Qualifying. Following that, the Banijans dominated World Cup 85 Qualifying, going wire-to-wire as the first place team in their World Cup Qualifying group, as well as earning more points in World Cup Qualifying(67) than any other team did throughout the entire campaign. Those strong performances both in the Eagle's Cup and World Cup Qualifying have caused fans to put an up and down AOCAF behind them, and heighten the standard for World Cup 85. While they escaped the group stages with four points, strong wins over Vilita and Zwangzug in the knockouts put them on course for a medal, as they eventually beat allies Baker Park in the bronze medal match, after falling 3-2 to the eventual champions Free Republics in the semifinal.

After a return to the AOCAF LXI Quarterfinals, their first quarterfinal appearance in the last 3 editions of the regional championships, they fell to Chromatika on penalties. The World Cup 86 Qualification campaign went rather swimmingly- the national team went a perfect 18-0-0 in World Cup Qualifying, the first time that had happened in well over 10 cycles. The multiverse's #1 ranked squad was brimming with confidence, the two-time bronze medalists entering World Cup 86 trying to win the biggest trophy in all of sports for the first time.

Marcus Waters has always preached the following- "you've got to win at home before you can win the World Cup." It's always meant you've got to win in Atlantian Oceania before you can expect to win the World Cup. And while we've never won the AOCAFs, our group was all Atlantian Oceania sides- Ko-oren, Chromatika, and Mriin. We finished in first place with a 1-0 win over Ko-oren, a 2-2 draw against Chromatika, and a 0-0 draw against Mriin being enough to earn 5 points. Then, we faced a gauntlet of former World champions. A 1-0 win over them put us in our fourth consecutive World Cup Quarterfinal, against 5 time World champions Valanora. A thrilling 4-3 win put us in the semifinal, again facing a GSW rival- World Cup 84 winners Farfadillis. In one of the wildest World Cup semifinals ever played, Banija came out on top 7-6, with a stoppage time winner to put them in the Final against the World Cup 85 winners Nephara. It was a true game of the century- neither team had lost a competitive match since the start of World Cup Qualifying, neither losing during Qualifying or the Finals. And in that thriller, it would be the Banijans who would win, taking a lead and holding onto it, winning by 3 goals to 2 against Nephara to lift the trophy and declare themselves World Cup Champions.

The ensuing AOCAF was strong, but not as strong as they wanted it to be. After starting slowly and losing their opening two games, they finished well done the stretch of group play, and even won a pair of knockout stage games before eventually falling to the champions, Baker Park, in the Semifinals. The Banijans redeemed themselves by earning a bronze medal against Sarzonia. The team took a B squad to Eagle's Cup IX, but a strong performance there landed them a silver medal, losing in the final to Valanora. World Cup 87 did not go the way they expected, getting eliminated in the group stages for the first time since World Cup 82. But we recovered in the World Cup 88 cycle. While a quarterfinal elimination at both Eagle's Cup X and AOCAF LXIII were not great, we were unbeaten in World Cup 88 Qualifying, and reached the World Cup 88 Semifinals, eliminating the defending champions Nephara and falling to the eventual champions Turori along the way. We used that momentum of the semfiinal run to finally earn a regional title, as on our 10th try, we finally won the AOCAFs, defeating Hapilopper in the semifinals and Valanora in the Final, winning both matches via penalty kick shootouts.

That regional title meant little in World Cup Qualifying, however, as Pemecutan and Zwangzug both pipped past Banija to automatically qualify for the World Cup, and left Banija in the dust, gasping for air. That called for a reset from the RSBA, which led to Marcus Waters resigning and Pam Scott be hired. While neither the Cup of Harmony nor the AOCAFs went particularly well, Pam Scott's laser focus on qualifying for the World Cup was a success, as the team not only went to World Cup 90, but showed up in style, winning a pair of penalty shootouts, before falling to the eventual winners, The Holy Empire, on PKs, in the semifinals. They still beat Valanora in the third place match, 2-1, to earn their third overall bronze medal. To reset things for World Cup 91, Banija easily won our qualification group, but flopped on our face in the Finals- losing our last two group stage matches after opening the tournament with 3 points, and promptly falling out at the group stages.

Pam Scott changed the mood entirely following, however, as the Banijans surprised many by winning AOCAF 67, including eliminating tournament favorites, Valanora, on home soil. The team built on that, in what was one of their best cycles ever- after going unbeaten in Qualifying (17 wins and 3 draws, with no losses), they went to the World Cup with confidence. After winning their group with ease, 7 points, they made it all the way to their Second ever World Cup Final, at World Cup 92. Wins over Squidroidia and world number ones Turori followed in the knockout stages, followed by a PK shootout victory over Valanora. But in the World Cup 92 Final, they fell at the final hurdle, as Zwangzug lifted the sport's ultimate trophy. While they could not retain their regional title, losing to the host nations, Valanora, in the AOCAF 68 Final, the lessons learned were paramount. They reached the World Cup and turned on another gear, earning their second ever World Cup title after defeating Chromatika, 4-3, in the World Cup 93 Final.

The team is performing at its best ever level, having reached back to back Finals at both the AOCAFs and the World Cup, only to fall at the semifinal stage of the most recent AOCAF tournament. They look to try and earn a second Eagle's Cup.

List of National Team managers
1. Kizza Kabila(Banija). Manager for Baptism of Fire 60 and the World Cup 73 Qualification Campaign. Overall record of 0-14-1(W-L-D).

Kizza Kabila is the only Banijan to have ever managed the national team. Hired for Banija's first foray onto the international scene in this sport, his reign was universally derided as a disaster. Managing 15 games, he drew his first game in the Baptism of Fire, and not only lost the next two, he then lost ever single match in the 12 game World Cup Qualification campaign for World Cup 73, with the side only scoring 5 goals across the entire campaign. Unceremoniously fired after becoming one of few managers to go through an entire World Cup Qualification campaign without earning a single point, he, alongside the entire board of the RBSA, resigned after the last game. He was disgraced in the sport after the campaign, and, to this point, has never returned to top-level soccer.

2.Jan Cassallerus(San Llera): Hired before the start of the World Cup 74 Qualification Campaign, managed through the World Cup 77 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 27-32-16(W-L-D).

Banija put its eyes abroad, searching for a foreign manager before the World Cup 74 Qualification campaign, and found Jan Cassallerus. He is Banija's longest ever serving manager, being at the helm for four entire World Cup cycles, and being at the helm for 75 total games, a kind of longevity unheard of in the modern game, especially managing the national team. He started winning a game at the Coupe D'Esquarium, in what was known as the group of death. He was largely celebrated for bringing the team into relevancy. The expectations were through the floor, following Kizza Kabila, but he brought the team to Cup of Harmony 66 and Cup of Harmony 67, as well as advancing in Olympic Qualifying and getting third place at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships. He was forced into retirement after the World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, when the RBSA declared bankruptcy, and could not participate in the World Cup 78 Qualification Campaign due to their inability to compensate players and staff.

3. Randolf Cherry(Drawkland): Hired before the start of the World Cup 79 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 20-24-2(W-L-D)

Randolf Cherry, after the RBSA got its act together, was hired- controversially- as the manager of the national team. Not that his own hire was controversial, it was applauded across the sports spectrum here at home. He was given a 3 cycle contract, and everyone knew what the goal was- to make the World Cup Finals at least once over the course of the contract. They understood that it would take time to climb the rankings, and they were willing to give him the leash. However, he came in a very awkward situation. Adama Sowe, the Chairman of the RBSA, allegedly first offered the job to Sarah Owens, out of the Equestrian States. Of course, it is illegal in Banija for women to coach men's professional teams, and that caused controversy. And yet, here he was- the manager of the national team.

His own home country of Drawkland is, of course, very progressive in that area, where the sport is dominated by the ladies. Regardless, he had an excellent start to his reign as a manger, and was initially extremely popular. He won his first game, in a special Eagles Club match, against Aggrey-Fynn Land. He lost his first few qualifiers, but he went on a dear through the middle of qualifying, which included a 7 game winning streak on home soil. Big wins against then 4th ranked Chromatika at home and then 32nd ranked Eshan, put them in the conversation of World Cup Qualification, though they were simply not strong enough.

The Cup of Harmony was considered a disaster, finishing in dead last in their group. The competition maybe simply isn't for the Banijans, eh? But they were strong throughout the offseason, making a surprising quarterfinal run in AOCAF LV and bringing high hopes to the squad going into World Cup 80 Qualification. Hopes were through the roof for the national team, maybe even bordering unrealistic. They struggled, and the campaign got worse as the pressure built, as the squad lost their final four qualifiers of the first half of qualifying. With the campaign seemingly in free-fall, he was fired, as the RBSA said they wanted time to conduct "an open, thorough, search."

4. Marcus Waters(Equestrian States): Hired after the 1st half of World Cup 80 Qualifying, fired at the end of World Cup 89 Qualifying. Overall record of 257-81-50(W-L-D). All-time winning percentage of 66.24%. All-time points percentage of 70.53%.

Marcus Waters was the national team's assistant manager with Randolf Cherry above him, and the manager of the youth national teams. He first gained notoriety in Banija after successfully leading the U21 team to a 3rd place finish at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup. With his abilities clear, it made sense to move onto him as the interim manager as they searched for a permanent manager ahead of the second half of World Cup Qualifying. However, he was able to complete a stunning turnaround of this team. His first game in charge, he changed nearly the entire backline, and had a massive upset, away to Qasden, by a score of 3-2. A 3-0 victory over Razenthuria in the other mid-qualifying friendly got high hopes for him.

Marcus Waters went out with an intent to keep his team focused, despite everything going on at home. He has proven adept at navigating the political minefield that is this job, especially with his own country of origin essentially at war with Banija. He didn't lose a single game in the second half of qualifying, winning 7 games to get to the playoffs, including when the team was forced to play home games in Montreal due to ongoing violence within Banija. He was widely applauded for getting the team ready to play in Montreal, and winning 1-0 against Turori, the group's top seeded squad, and a 3-0 win in Montreal in the Qualification playoffs. While the RBSA interviewed four other candidates, his successful push through the World Cup Qualification playoffs and into Banija's first-ever World Cup Finals essentially clinched the job for him, as he put pen to paper to take the interim tag off of his title ahead of the 80th World Cup Finals.

Since then, of course, he has done a lot to garner the confidence of the higher-ups, and of the fans. Falling to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals of both AOCAF LVI and AOCAF LVII was widely seen as a positive. As well as, of course, a surprising Fourth Place finish in the Cup of Champions Six, highlighted by a surprising point earned in their matchup against Nephara, while also pushing through to the Round of 16 of World Cup 81, pleasing the home fans. A different sort of pressure faces him this campaign, however.

For the first time in his reign, you could say that Banija had a disappointing tournament, failing to advance in World Cup 82 beyond the group stages. It might be harsh to say that- on paper, advancing from a group with both Pasarga and Farfadillis is a tall order if your team is not Pasarga or Farfadillis. They responded well, however, winning six consecutive games at AOCAF LVIII, and knocking off major nations including Cosumar and Mriin at the tournament, before being felled in the final, in their own capitol of Busukuma, to Equestria. Following up with a World Cup on home soil, they continued that momentum forward from AOCAF LVIII, as the Banijans took on the role of giantslayers on home soil. They beat the 5th ranked South Covello side, and the then two-time defending world champions Vilita, before eventually falling to Starblaydia in the semifinals, though they still earned a bronze medal. Although momentum was blunted after a tough 1-0 defeat to Ko-oren that secured an early exit from AOCAF LIX, they followed that up with their second straight appearance in the World Cup Quarterfinals, where they fell to Eura in extra time.

The last two cycles he really got the team to rise above themselves. The last two World Cup Qualification cycles, Banija has finished as the best team in World Cup Qualifying by points earned. And he has the silverware to match- a bronze medal earned in World Cup 85, followed by a gold medal in World Cup 86. Having risen from basically nowhere in Equestria to household name status in Banija, he has truly made a name for himself as one of the world's premier international managers. While World Cup 87 was disappointing, he quickly ensured that was a one-off, rather than a sign of things to come. He brought Banija to their fourth World Cup semifinal in their past six tournaments at World Cup 88, and followed that up with winning the country's first ever regional title.

But he is now a victim of his own success. An Eagle's Cup champion, the AO champion, and a World Cup champion, he drastically raised the bar for the Kadongo Kamu. But Banija winning 9 of their last 10 Qualifiers could not overcome their disastrous, and therefore, we did not qualify for the World Cup Finals. The RBSA had no other choice but to let the legend and Hall of Famer walk, as the time has come around for the national team to change their head man for the first time since World Cup 80.

5. Pamela Scott(Commonwealth of Baker Park): Hired after World Cup 89 Qualifying, right before Cup of Harmony 81. Overall Record of 113-27-38(W-L-D). Winning percentage: 63.48%. Points percentage: 70.60%

Scott is widely regarded as one of the brightest tactical minds in the sport, and her record speaks for itself. Replaced Trevor Richmond as BP National Team Manager after the side qualified for the WC in their first three attemps, then followed Ichi Tuzzio as boss of the WC 85 Champions, overhauling the roster and bringing a bit of defensive awareness to the legendary Farf attacking style. Has an eye for young talent and not afraid to give them a chance. The above is why she was hired- leverage her experience to bring stabilization to a national team that is currently reeling.

While the Cup of Harmony and the AOCAFs both resulted in disappointing exits at the Round of 16, and the Eagle's Cup went disastrously(not scoring for 5 consecutive matches), Pam Scott is still upbeat about the direction of the national team. "With this cycle, everything is about World Cup Qualification." She told reporters. "Those tournaments, while they did not go well, were about finding the right squad, building to this moment. Banija wants to compete on all fronts, of course- but we cannot do that if we are not qualifying for the World Cup. These tournaments, while not great on the field, have allowed me to experiment all sorts of lineups, and expose different players to elite competition at the international stage. How they deal with things like pressure. You're going to see much different results when the team takes the field for World Cup 90 Qualifying."

But her first World Cup in charge was an unmitigated success. Beating both Audioslavia and Eura was a stunner, as Banija won the group of death with a game to go. Not resting on their laurels, they downed two AO rivals, SRS and Baker Park, in back-to-back games in route to the semifinals, and eventually, a bronze medal. With that success, Pam Scott declared that the national team is "back to competing on all fronts". While the last World Cup's group stage embarassment was a disappointment, she more than made up for it by bringing home her first major international trophy- the AOCAFs.

Last cycle, after reaching the AOCAF Final and falling to Valanora, she was able to take the lessons learned from that and bring Banija to our second ever World Cup title- and her first. She's now, after a long journey from Baker Park, to Farfadillis, and now Banija, has reached the sports pinnacle. Ambitious as always, she's now trying to build on that and earn a second World Cup title.

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 1-7-2(W-L-T).

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals. Equestria, of course went on to win the World Cup, and the next AOCAF to boot, establish a fully fledged dynasty. The Banijans, in pre WOrld Cup 84 Qualification friendlies, got their first ever result against the Equestrians, a 0-0 draw in Everfree.

Equestria and Banija were in the same group at AOCAF LXII, with the opening match of the tournament being a repeat of the AOCAF LVIII Final. Banija, we thought, rising high and champions. But Equestria came to rain on the parade. They won on Matchday 1, by a score of 2-1 in Busukuma, and we could only manage a return draw. Our fiercest rivals, and yet, we've still never managed to have beaten them, in a competitive or a friendly match. That search for the elusive win against Equestria continues.

Banija landed their first ever win over Equestria in the Round of 16 at AOCAF LXVI. Years of angst were excised by this national team, as , in a match that may have finally begun to turn this rivalry towards team Banija. With the two teams paired in this cycle here at World Cup Qualifying, Banija will look to ensure that beating their rival was not a fluke- but turn that into a habit.

2. Farfadillis. All time Banijan record against opponent- 2-5-0(W-L-T)

What makes a good international rivalry? You need a mixture of history and luck. Luck, to have played in plenty of high stakes matches against each other on the biggest stages- World Cups, AOCAFs, and the like. But you also need nearness. What makes these two know each other so well? We've played in twice as many competitive matches against Chromatika as we have against Farfadillis.

Well, let's go with the political intrigue. Of course, there's geography- Farfadillis is the closest nation to Banija that does not share a land border with Banija. Their former capitol, is on the northern tip of their island, which is just south of Busukuma, the Banijan capitol city. So of course, there's that familiarity. And when the Farfadillis national government fell apart and they fell into some sort of a controlled chaos, many refugees fled Farfadillis for the stability of Banija. Busukuma became the natural landing place. There are no official numbers, but there an estimated 100,000 or so Farf refugees across the country, but with over half of them, around 60,000, residing in Busukuma.

So there's that familiarity on an intimate level, especially in Banija, and especially in Banija's capitol. Especially in the capitol, it's always a huge deal when these two meet. And besides that? Well, of course, we dropped a few nuclear warheads on Farfadillis, where Banija's nuclear weapons got both hacked and stolen by operatives. While, surprisingly, it didn't cause as much damage as one would expect, 5 nuclear weapons are still quite a bit to get hit by. Farf citizens weren't exactly appreciative, and that is fresh in everybody's mind.

Lastly, look at the integration of our footballing systems. We have a combined league. With the combination of our top flights in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League, Banijan footballing fans and Farf footballing fans interact every single week. Sometimes peacefully, sometimes violently, always loud and passionately. For two seperate nations(plus Busoga), they have a very integrated league system. And that, of course, will mean that the rivalry is played out every week. Banijan teams v. Farf teams. Farf teams got the better of their Banijan opponents, by and large, throughout the inaugural season, but there is still plenty left to say on the subject.

This is Banija's clear #2 rival, ahead of anybody else, besides Equestria. And as the S-FPL continues, this rivalry will continue to be competitive for years to come. Not to mention, the two have played a pair of thrilling World Cup Finals matches against each other- Farfadillis being victorious in World Cup 81, and then being victorious again in World Cup 84, where they went on to win that World Cup. What'd be more fun than another Finals matchup between these two juggernauts, right?

3. Chromatika. All time Banijan record against opponent- 8-3-2(W-L-T)

This is, admittedly, not the first nation you think of when you think of Banija's rivals. But There is a long-time history between these two nations. These two have more shared history than Banija and any other opponent, at least in competitive matches. Banija and Chromatika have faced off a grand total of 9 times competitively- all in the modern era of Banijan soccer, which is WCQ79-present. It was that first campaign back, after the RBSA bankruptcy, where it was established.

Banija had one of their biggest ever all-time wins in that Qualifying campaign, our first ever win over a top 5 opponent, when we beat then #4 Chromatika 2-1 in Jinja City. It's a night that has gone down in Banijan history. Looking back, many see it as Banija's first true launch towards where we are now- from a consistent middle of the pack nation in Qualifying, who couldn't do anything in the Cup of Harmony, to demanding a seat at the table by being an elite squad.

And we've played plenty of times since, as well. AOCAF LXI- we beat them in the group stages, only to fall to them in the Quarterfinals, on penalty kicks. We each got clean sheet victories over the other team at Eagle's Cup VIII, a tournament that we ended up winning. And we played them twice in World Cup Qualifying for 86, beating them twice en route to a perfect 18-0-0 Qualifying record. We played them again at the Finals, and we battled out a 2-2 draw.

They're a tough opponent, and considering the frequency of our matches in recent years, meeting up in the Finals would not be that unexpected. We know each other well, have played with plenty of stakes on the line. And, of course, there's those cultural and political connections that make the greatest international rivalries- a Banijan delegation, led by present Banijan Ambassador to Chromatika and former Banijan Minister of Justice, Xolile Lubabalo, helped shepherd Chromatika's transition to democracy. It's friendly, but there's plenty of history to make it interesting.

Of course, to make things even more interesting, these two met on the grandest stage of them all- the World Cup 93 Final. While Banija triumphed in a close-fought match (and a stunning come from behind second half victory), it has really moved Chromatika probably close to the top of Banija's rivals list, especially with S&T no longer participating in these tournaments and the Equestrian States no longer reaching the high levels they once had in the past.

Honorable Mentions
Nations mentioned here are considered key rivals, but there is not enough competitive match history to really define it as a rivalry. Nations are not listed in order.

- Siovanija & Teusland(Geographic proximity, cultural + political ties)
- Valanora(geographic proximity, recent KO stage battles at the AOCAFs and the WC)
- Royal Kingdom of Quebec(general history and close political/cultural ties- Banija is a former colony of Quebec and they have been close ever since)
- Sarzonia(General sporting rivalry, history with 3 AOCAF matches against each other, 2 World Cup Qualifying matches, and a World Cup Finals match)
- Baker Park(cultural plus political ties)

Roster Deep Dive/Explanation

This is certainly a creative roster by Pam Scott. Per usual, with this tournament between the AOCAFs and World Cup Qualifying, she uses this tournament to give a look at players who have either fallen off the NT frame, and otherwise haven't gotten a chance to play in front of her. Only a couple of players on this squad got winners medals at World Cup 93, and most won't play in World Cup Qualifying- but, as a strong believer in commpetition, she's giving everybody a chance to see if they can impress and earn their way onto the Qualifying roster.

The first name that will pop out at observers is Sarafina Ikpeazu. The armband wearer for the NT. Scored in the World Cup 92 Final, a trio of assists in the World Cup 93 Final. In what is functionally a B team, why is she on this roster? That is mostly due to her club situation. While Sabrefell Athletic is flying (back to back CL Finals, and they won the first one), her role in the team has shrunk down as she's aged- she's even found herself mostly in the reserves last season. So, to ensure she's back in game shape for Qualifying, she's here at the Eagles' Cup.

Not that Pam Scott will mind her captain being there- can help with player evaluations. Of course, there are a few players from the U21 World Cup who will feature here at the Eagle's Cup as well. In particular, you're looking at Jônn Wérséô and Layvin Son-Saka, who will round out the front 3 ahead of the skipper. Now, of course, Son-Saka is just 17- and yet, already playing a starring role for his club. His hat trick in the opening game of the DBCs was mighty impressive, as well. With where Banija is at the winger position, he is not expected to join the senior side until after the 94 cycle- but can his game convince Pam Scott that she has no choice but to invite the dual-national?

Of course, he's not cap tied just yet- although it's an open secret he wants to play for Banija. And then, another dual-national- Jônn Wérséô, born in Banija, but Farf blood. Banija has struggled mightily to fill the backup position behind our all-world striker, and the reigning Testiculo de Oro, Abel Wesoloski-Okafor. Eli Aero has done the job, but there's no confidence in him. Jônn Wérséô is going to get the first opportunity. Rumor has it that he's moving to Mâ Âlâmëomë for the upcoming season- big club opportunity. He was reasonably solid at the DBCs- but can he do it here at the Eagle's Cup?

Some young players we went through. But beyond that? Lots of vets, and other players, either looking to improve their stock, or searching for a way to reach that 23. Or even - looking for one last ride. A player like Idi Dabo or Orji Uzoma- unlikely to make the next Qualifying roster, but potentially could end their international careers with a trophy here at the Eagle's Cup. And a whole host of other players who haven't had a chance. We'll see what Pam Scott can do here- but if she's successful, the Banijans could both make a run and she could gain some valuable insight on who will wear the jersey to try and reach World Cup 94.

SQUADRA NAZIONALE DI JUVENCUS

Image

Information about Juvencus:
Capital: Pomena
Population: 130,656,702 ethnic Juven, with a total of 150,048,720 including naturalised immigrants.
Demonym: Juven
Country Code: JUE
Football Association: JFA(Juven Football Association)
Nicknames: Gli attaccanti(The attackers), La squadra(The team)
Football philosophy: At this point, to play football in Juvencus you need to understand that no matter who you are, pushing forward is the MOST essential core value you can bring in your game. Both strikers and defenders alike are equally likely to strike from any range at any time. Defense is not neglected, but is not as valued as being a scary goalscorer up front.
Official Record(WCC-Sanctioned only): 372 Games played(194 W - 77 D - 101 L)

La Squadra:

*BOLD & UNDERLINED INDICATES STARTER

Goalkeepers:

This is a spot traditionally given to the players with the fastest reaction times and the grit to withstand the pressure of being the goalkeeper in a team that cares way more to attack than to defend. Despite the shit they receive in comparison to the rest of the team, those are true inspirations on the pitch and are always treated as such by players and other managers alike.

GK:Juan Carlos Ungaro(Age 26)(U.S Scudelli)
Description: Taddeo Bulgari's retirement from international football has basically paved the way for Juan Carlos Ungaro to showcase his goalkeeping abilities on the big stage as la squadra's main goalkeeper. A positionally adept goalkeeper with a keen eye and focus on the game and with fast reflexes to top it all off. He is the perfect goalkeeper to sustain many oppositional attacks when it matters most.

GK:Sócrates Wright(Age 24)(AC Pomena)
Description: Wright might be a surprise entry in this list. But fret not as he possesses undeniably the best vision out of any goalkeeper in the Campionato and has managed to save the AC Pomena side from multiple embarrassments with his excellent leaps and heroics. He is a clutch goalkeeper and perfect for saving penalties.

GK:Iago Asputti(Age 27)(Pesebal BalunImage)
Description: Tremendously talented keeper known for his acrobatics due to his relatively short stature for a goalkeeper. Despite equal in skill to the other two, he lacks focus under pressure in comparison to them which puts him down to third choice.

Defenders:

The defender's position is always kept for players who are speedy, positionally adept and physically strong for their size and usually either have excellent leadership skills, game intelligence or a hot-headedness and most of a time a combination of the three. It is a position that also lacks the respect it deserves in Juven society, but it is one that is necessary in order to make it easier for the goalkeeper and the team as a whole.

CB:Carlo Callejon(Age 29)(Brattleboro FCImage)(Second Captain) (Captain)
Description: Callejon is a player that works on spite heavily, improving at a faster rate when there is more than win to gain. He is quick, and while hot-headed manages to at least keep his composure when he is pocketing strikers of all shapes and sizes. He possesses an accurate tackle and will rarely, if ever, get carded for that. He is also a leading presence in the pitch and will finally be getting the captain's armband this cycle.

CB:Pau Puig(Age 26)(AS Aguajú)
Description: Puig is a giant flesh wall to get through, while slow, he tends to position himself right and is impossible to dribble past. Other than that, he is also able to keep his teammates in check when it really matters(due to his imposing nature, but is prone to outbursts sometimes) and is very football-smart. He is also the defence's only reliable aerial duel winner, winning most, if not all aerial duels he participates in.

CB:Carlos Coste(Age 25)(Glenmount TownImage)
Description: Coste is a more offense-oriented defender as he has an eagle eye, with a good crossing ability. Carlos Coste is very focused in the game and possesses highly accurate passing that is useful for fast counter-attacks. He is the most level-headed defender which makes him an excellent replacement to his predecessor Izotz Ibarra.

CB:Lucia Agnelli(Age 25)(Victoriaville CityImage)
Description: Positionally adept with great tackling ability. Lucia Agnelli has all that is required of a Juven defender. Due to her small stature and short gravity center, she is also able to attempt risky dribbles on the defensive side with a high success rating.

CB:Izotz Ibarra(Age 36)(MipojoseonImage)
Description: Ibarra is no player to quit, he is still a strong positioned player and has an infamous crossing ability that few Juven players possess. Age might be creeping onto him but most of the time he will still perform as if he is in his peak years. He is still the main mentor for the younger defenders that he has bonded with over the years. He will be stepping to a substitute role to promote the younger defenders to the position from earlier on, however he will be the rock of the backline in more impportant matchdays.

Midfielders:

A midfielder is always a maestro on the pitch and depending on which side of the midfield they are in, their characteristics change. There's no pure centrocampista in Juvencus, instead players play as offensive-minded CDM's in the middle of the field. Those players usually have vision, exceptional passing or crossing and usually dictate the speed of the attack, the most necessary element of this team's tactics. They also fall back to form a bus when deemed absolutely necessary. In the sides, you have wide midfielders who act as supplementary wingers, players with speed who can provide to the wingers or the forwards when necessary. As such, you get to see fast players with great inward crossing and forward passing.

CDM:Pierre-Didier Kouyaté(Age 29)(U.S Scudelli)
Description: The half-Banijan mastermind of the team, Kouyaté has always been dubbed as the successor of Russo when it comes to his playstyle. Much like him, he will dictate the speed and pace of la squadra's play, with an excellent vision and brilliant passing ability to show for it, which contributes to the high amount of assists he provides. He can also fulfill the duties of a supplementary defender, as he possesses iron lungs and can move freely all around the pitch. He was a testiculos nominee for the last season.

CDM:Félix Sissoko(Age 26)(Kingston FCImage)
Description: When in need, call Sissoko. Sissoko can instigate attacks out of thin air with a simple cross, or just a pass. His vision allows him to be always updated on the game. Though not as endurant as his partner in crime, he makes up for it by being in the right place at the right time and playing his game. He is also lucky enough to have a slightly better chemistry with his squadmates than other players, no matter the enviroment.

RM:Simon Oliveira(Age 26)(Newark ArgyleImage)
Description: Simon Oliveira is very much a nuisance to play against, a swift dribbler, excellent passer with a high chance of raining long-distance attempts at a goal or assist, the Osci side's prospect has potential only few players could ever have. Lots of rumors see him returning to the Campionato for a chance at glory, however he is also keen on the improvement of his -formerly- native Oscioru.

LM:Michelangelo Santini(Age 31)(Dhun Lagarr FCImage)
Description: Santini is the fastest sprinter on the pitch. That is not his only trait, however as his speed usually gives him a lot of space to work with and organise multiple attacks from the sides, with a lot of volleys and crosses coming from his part to provide for a lot of goals that the team is meant to score.

CDM:Josefina Portieri(Age 26)(TihonImage)
Description: Josefina Portieri is a classic example of an accurate Juven passer and strong long distance shooter, traits that give her a commanding presence on the pitch. She is a player that can quickly change the tide of the game if given enough space, either by a surprise through-ball or even a goal out of nowhere. She is also a very technical player, with exceptional dribbling ability and is great at carrying the ball forward. At times she can be very impatient with the ball on her feet, but that adds up to the element of surprise she can offer.

CDM:Giuseppe Conte(Age 27)(U.S Scudelli)
Description: Giuseppe Conte is not the flashiest player in the team, however he has extremely effective crosses, owing to his high football iq as well as a sickening ball handling technique that makes it hard to get the ball away from him. Aside from that, he is also one of the few free kick specialists of the team.

RM:Júlien Cantù(Age 34)(Dhun Lagarr FCImage)
Description: Cantù has always been the orchistrator of right wing offenses, an accurate passer and pretty decent dribbler, he sticks to the sidelines most of the time. Might give that cheeky unexpected assist from out of nowhere and is also a very keen goalscorer especially from mid-range since he has a very odd shooting technique that gives any ball that jabulani(stole that from RLStates, ha) effect.

RM:Chimo Quaranta(Age 27)(AC Pomena)
Description: Chimo Quaranta is the definition of speed and intelligence, a mirror of Santini, yet slightly more intelligent with the ball on his feet and instead of being a faithful crosser, he prefers to keep the ball low while choosing volleys on occassion, with high levels of success.

LM:Lucien Cavallo(Age 29)(AC Pomena)
Description: AC Pomena's midfield menace, Cavallo is a flexible midfielder, often times switching sides in the midfield in an attempt to find the perfect position to orchistrate an organised attack which works most of the time. While not directly scoring or assisting much, his input is of utmost importance as he starts a number of frontline offensives which lead to goals.

LM:Carla Acquati(Age 25)(AC CuttiImage)
Description: Carla Acquati is an expert at making the long game. She is speedy, yet she also has the stamina of a marathon sprinter, players going up against her have been reported to fall on the ground. She was pivotal in AC Cutti's double.

Attackers:

A position held with the utmost respect as it has the most prestige in Juven football. The task to be picked for it is simple, you should know both how to score and how to supply goals. It is a position that has the most competition, as most talented Juven players are up in front and are very known across the multiverse for their prowess in front of the goal. As such, it is a position with a lot of pressure to be in, much like the goalkeeper. Wingers are fast, brilliant technicians who are excellent suppliers and have a confusingly good shooting technique. Strikers on the other, they have a strong finishing touch akin to an unstoppable force on a consistent level.

RF:Joao Pereyra(Age 27)(BrinemouthImage)
Description: A gifted technical player with the ball always stuck on his feet no matter how many people try to stop him. Once given the space, his finishing could be considered one of the most clinical in the team. While he also does not shy away from providing tons of assists for his teammates, since his exceptional dribbling allows him to open up space to use. Being a starter for one of the strongest teams in the multiverse in perhaps the strongest league in the multiverse, we are looking at a man who knows business.

LF:Ganymede Garcia(Age 26)(MipojoseonImage)
Description: Garcia is a big game player right off the bat as he will score that one random header or tap-in when you least expect it, a figure which shows how much of an instrumental finisher he is. With traits like that, he is perhaps the team's only remaining true poacher up front, despite his winger status. In Quebec, he has been playing out of position in the place of a central midfielder, but somehow he has managed to prove himself extremely pivotal in that position as well. He earned a testiculos nomination for a position he is not meant to be playing at, an indication of his class and adaptability.

CF:Julio Campana(Age 26)(New Lakeland Soccer ClubImage)
Description: Julio Campana comes from a bloodline of goalscorers. A strong right foot, he usually scores rockets when it comes to scoring from long distance and usually prefers to use his weaker left foot for chips and close-range shooting, for extra efficacy. He has a devastating header with a high goal percentage which is owed to the fact that his explosive jumps make him perfect for winning aerial duels. He has proven himself to be one of Cassadaigua's finest strikers, having won every trophy available to him in such a short span.

LF:Sergio Freitas(Age 27)(FC Piluzzi)
Description: Sergio Freitas is very dangerous, technically adept player with a knack for his strong yet curvy shots. He is known in the team as a player with a very strong mentality and currently approaching his peak, he is a very dangerous substitute and a great replacement for the now-retired Martell.

LF:Edu Coste(Age 26)(AC Pomena)
Description: Coste has a specific dribble that is always expected, yet impossible to stop no matter what you do. An inwards cut that came out from the book performed at such a speed that not even the most experienced defenders can stop and to top it all off, he has a shot with a fine finesse to it, making him one of the team's deadliest finishers.

RF:Patxi Etxeberria(Age 35)(AC Pomena)
Description: Etxerberria has decided to give some playing time to the younger generation by stepping down and becoming a substitution, so that there is more fluidity up front. That should not fool you however as he is still a dangerous player to play against and his numbers in the Campionato as well as international club competitions show for it.

RF:Gilberto Soares(Age 27)(U.S Scudelli)
Description: Though normally a deadly striker, Gilberto Soares possesses explosive speed which allows him to be dangerous out of dead air, which is a very critical trait for a winger and a player who could just not be left out of the team. He also possess cat-like leaps that allow him to jump high in the air, giving him an advantadge in headers.

CF:Giordano Limene(Age 30)(Garden CityImage)
Description: Limene is on fire, an unstoppable attacking machine that keeps on scoring and scoring with every given opportunity. Despite a long waiting time for his engines to start, when they do start, they do not stop no matter how many walls will be put on that defensive line. An innate ability for curved shots, it is very hard for any goalkeeper to stand a chance against him. He has been unstoppable in the Flavovespian league, bringing terror to the sides he has played against.

CF:Benedikto Urruchi(Age 27)(Gehrenna FCImage)
Description: If not for the generational talent of Campana, he would be the main striker for the team for years to come, he will be his scariest competition however. He is a clinical finisher, able to use both feet with high efficacy and is also incredibly fast. There is no way to stop him other than to foul him endlessly. He is also a penalty and free kick specialist, with a high conversion rate for both.

CF:Ceferino Audiol(Age 25)(Kirkenes FCImage)
Description: A hard worker that proved himself in the Quebecois league now finding himself in the Kelssek league. Spectacular in the air, he is known for catching headers better than most players while his footwork is not to be dismissed. He is a clinical finisher and much necessary in the depth of the most coveted spot in the national team.

CF:Adamantina Campana(Age 21)(Cordasfjord FCImage)
Description: The youngest of the Campana siblings, Adamantina Campana grew up to be just like them. She has all the traits of a deadly striker, positional awareness, accurate shooting, scary finishing, strength, heading. You name it, she has it. Alongside that, she also inherited the cold-bloodedness of her family in situations under pressure. All in all, a perfect striker.

Reserves:

Madeiros, seeing how the depth experiment performed in the 7 Nations Cup has decided to provide 2 reserve teams that may play against teams in the lower pots. He has named the teams "Equipo Arragoeta" and "Equippe 7NC".

GK:Olarre Gabarri(Age 30)(U.S Remeno)

Staff:
Main Coach:Dudu Madeiros
Honaryary Coach: Joaquim Martell
Junior Coach:Nino Russo
Assistant Coach:Calixto Conti
Assistant Coach:Sebastian Galletti
Team Doctor:Carlo Micheli
Team Physician:Mathis Rotolo

Roster comments: Barely any changes to the lineup besides the depatures of Martell, which is a big deal and upgrade of Freitas in the substitute line. The winners of the 18th Independents Cup will be looking to maintain that balance of old and new for a little while longer. Madeiros will be less flexible on his tactics, considering the risks almost const the team its Independents Cup campaign. On the meanwhile, Madeiros will be receiving help by Martell himself, who was place as honorary coach to guide the team through thick and thin alongside Madeiros just for this one campaign, despite his still-playing status.

Please assume YES for all answers in the Permission Box – just TG me first if it's particularly insane and/or egregious.

KRYTENIA 2308 EAGLES CUP SQUAD
Modifier: +3

Image
Beginning their football journey way back in the second Baptism of Fire competition, Krytenia are one of the oldest national teams still competing in international football. With five World Cups hosted, as well as a smattering of AOCAFs, Cups of Harmony, Baptism of Fires, and even a CAFA Cup, they also have a deserved reputation for organising top-level football competitions. What they don't have, though, is a reputation for winning. They are yet to win a World Cup; in fact, they have only reached one final, losing to Aguazul in World Cup 58. Five semi-final defeats are what set the tone for the Dragons – indeed, losing in the semis of a major competition is known as the “Krytenian Curse”. That said, there is silverware in their cabinet. Having created the AOCAF Cup, Krytenia eventually won the fifty-second iteration of the competition; more recently, they won Cup of Harmony 78 and nearly added a second two cycles later, losing to fellow co-hosts Græntfjell on home soil. A third major trophy took a while to come, but with victory in the sixth CAFA Cup the Krytenian team joined the small band of nations who have won two different regional competitions.

They may have a reputation as the multiverse's nearly men, but never let yourself be deluded that the Krytenians are defeatist. Even though they may come up short, it's a very rare thing to see a Dragons team simply give up. Be aware that when the sky blue shirts are on the field, you will be in for a tough game, and victory will always be hard-earned.

Image
Manager – BRELK-XERAL Erv (QUS), Age 66
Started their career in their native Qusmo, where they brought first KF Atlov and then Atlov Juzuna to prominence (or at least relevance) in the domestic and international game. This led to them getting the national team job at Brenecia, which resulted in a Campeonato Esportiva trophy. After some initial promise, the team appeared to have hit a plateau; not only that, but for CAFA VI “BXE” had the additional challenge of being without assistant manager Graham Lawton, who was, and still is, on sabattical due to illness. It mattered not, however, as the wily Qusmi guided the Dragons to their third-ever piece of major silverware.

Interim Assistant Manager – Tommy WARREN, Age 31
A persistent knee injury may have curtailed Warren's career before it even started, but it hasn't dulled his enthusiasm for the game. BXE saw his work with Bradwell Saints' academy team and suggested the young coach to the KFA. Taking a leaf from his Qusmi mentor's book, Warren is made his mark at the Under-18 World Cup, guiding the teenagers to a fourth-place finish. Fresh from that experience, Warren will be learning at the feet of BXE for the Eagles Cup whilst Lawton continues his recoery at home.

Goalkeeping Coach – Aaron SHEPHERD, Age 48
Defensive Coach – Andrew THORNTON, Age 61
Offensive Coach – Alex VINELLI, Age 53
Physiotherapist – Stephen WILLIS, Age 67

Image

Amanda BACH
Age: 23
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Caversham

Given Krytenia's non-segregated approach to football and the nation's propensity for producing talented goalkeepers, it's perhaps surprising that Bach is the first woman called up to the national side. The Caversham stopper seems to be made up entirely of limbs; her teammates have steered into this skid by nicknaming her “The Black Widow” - after the spider, before anyone asks.

Image

Gabriel ALMADA
Age: 29
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Avidia United

A safe pair of hands, though could work on his positioning. Almada's distribution, on the other hand, is top notch.

Image

Louis KENDRICK
Age: 26
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Royal Emberton

Kendrick is tall. Like, ridiculously so. Measuring up at 7'2”, and with hands like shovels, the Royals stopper is an imposing figure in the goalmouth. That said, he has a tendency to parry rather than catch the ball cleanly.

Image
Image

Justin DARCY
Age: 26
Position: Right-back
Club: Mercia Bromham

Bombastic wing-back who fits right in with BXE's attacking philosophy. Looks more comfortable with the ball at his feet than trying to win it back off opposing wingers.

Image

Stephen LORIMER
Age: 28
Position: Left-back
Club: Ashton Olympic

Solid full-back with excellent positioning skills. Lorimer does, however, lack pure pace and adventurousness, which has led to him being a bit part player in BXE's plans down the years.

Image

Robert GORMAN
VICE-CAPTAIN
Age: 27
Position: Centre-back
Club: Bradwell Saints

A thinking man's defender, Gorman is a calm head at the back. Not the best in the air, but makes up for it with accuracy in the tackle and excellent distribution.

Image

Derek HIGGINS
Age: 24
Position: Centre-back
Club: Emberton Hibernians

Speedy centre-back who could, in another life, have been a box-to-box midfielder. An absolute rock for Hibs, and should complement Gorman's more cerebral style nicely.

Image

Kevin JAMESON
Age: 25
Position: Centre-back
Club: Mercia Bromham

Very much from the “hoof it into Row Z” school of defending, which is why he's on the fringes rather than the first eleven. Reliable as a metronome, though.

Image

Richard McGOWAN
Age: 28
Position: Right-back
Club: Caledon Simpson

Feet of a ballet dancer, face only a mother could love.

Image

Malcolm KIRSTEN
Age: 29
Position: Centre-back
Club: Royal Emberton

A fan of the “Sarzie Rules” version of handegg but lacked the skillset for that sport. Transitioned to football when he discovered he was pretty good at kicking the round ball; linebackers make for good defenders, apparently.

Image

Kristian AMARI
Age: 22
Position: Left-back
Club: Neathill

Amari likes to force attackers down a cul-de-sac on the wing, but looks vulnerable when forced inside.

Image
Image

Savannah QUINN
CAPTAIN
Age: 31
Position: Central midfield
Club: Straudum VV (KOR)

Surprisingly few women make it into the national team squad, despite Krytenian football not being gender-segregated. Quinn is absolutely here on merit, though, and in the World Cup 92 qualifiers became the first woman to captain the side. An absolute dervish with the ball at her feet.

Image

Jules RENARD
Age: 23
Position: Left midfield
Club: Beckton Supermarine

Tormalay-born winger snatched from CFF Monthuez's squad as a teenager by the Mariners. Flies down the left flank with strawberry blonde locks flowing; will almost certainly make a mint advertising shampoo at some stage in his career.

Image

Owen HALLER
Age: 24
Position: Left midfield
Club: Emberton Reds

Free-kick specialist and deadly accurate in the pass. Having Darcy behind him should allow Haller to cut inside and create havoc in the middle of the park as well.

Image

Esteban SALVADOR
Age: 23
Position: Central midfield
Club: Avidia United

Scott Stringer may have called time on his international career, but the future of his position is at least in safe hands. Salvador looks so at home with the ball at his feet, you're expecting him to be playing in tartan slippers. Offers a dead-ball alternative to Owen Haller as well.

Image

Ryan HOLTZ
Age: 24
Position: Central midfield
Club: Casuals Osteria

The engine room of the Casuals team, Holtz is a classic ball-winning midfield general. Lacks the creativity to be truly Team BXE material, however.

Image

Anthony KING
Age: 20
Position: Left midfield
Club: Notegia Rangers

A talented back-up to Owen Haller, King has in comfortable dribbling past opponents or whipping in a teaser.

Image

Zachary LYONS
Age: 26
Position: Central midfield
Club: Stanton Town

Insert inevitable comparisons to Cormac O'Neill here. To be fair to Lyons, though, he sprays the ball around with eyebrow-raising levels of accuracy.

Image

Simon MASARI
Age: 28
Position: Right midfield
Club: Casuals Osteria

Once considered the next Robert Reeder; Liam Hayes and Jules Renard have inherited that particular mantle, which has actually allowed Masari to be his own player a little more. Loves a stepover, will try and create separation for a cross.

Image
Image

Greg WILLIAMS
Age: 23
Position: Half-forward
Club: Ousevale Borough

Diminutive (5'6”) attacker, good close control, bags of pace, finds space well, general pain in the backside for defenders. Or, in other words, pretty much every Ousevale forward ever, only shorter.

Image

Angus JACK
Age: 26
Position: Striker
Club: WSR AFC (KOR)

In the words of the Cyan Army:

“He's just A. Jack in the box, from the region with a fox, and he can score just about anything....”

Image

Gil SANCHEZ
Age: 25
Position: Striker
Club: Avidia United

”El Tiburón” (The Shark) to his team-mates, Sanchez is always on the move looking for a juicy morsel of a pass to get his teeth into. Can be “a bit” tempramental, in the same way that Jupiter is “a bit” big.

Image

Ben STEWART
Age: 28
Position: Half-forward
Club: Mercia Bromham

Loves to speed down the channels, creating chances for his fellow front-men. Lacks a bit of commitment in the shot himself, though.

Image
Image
“System Erv”, named for...well, take a guess, is on the face of it a 4-2-3-1. With the Krytenians on the ball, however, expect this to change quickly to a 4-2-4 as the second line pushes up to support the striker. The two holding midfielders will be the fulcrum of the attack; expect the ball to move quickly between light blue shirts, especially on the counter. Press, pace, and overloading and overwhelming opposition defences will be the order of the day.

Off the ball, Krytenia will play a high line; they may be vulnerable to balls over the top – if opposition attackers can time their runs to avoid the offside and beat the Dragons' defenders for pace.

Redite Paing Wuku Sinta, Pawukon 1785

And We Decided

Pemecutan Puri - The last week of 1784 Pawukon year have become so important not just because it is the time for Pemecutanian citizens to celebrate its New Year's Eve but also because of the presence of Toluiwa Prime Minister and their economic delegation in the country. The coming of Toluiwan delegation into Pemecutan was to persuade the country's government to follow the Mandaran Council's decision to adopt a single currency system starting from year 1785. The delegation was planned to spend just 3 days in Pemecutan. But they decided to extent their visit following the coincidence with Pemecutan's New Year's Eve. And does the persuasion succeed?

Spokesperson to the Ministry of Economic and Trade, stated that the government will re-open the discussion about the currency changing once the new constitution is passed. It is indeed will take sometimes but the country won't try to halt the development of their neighboring countries. In the meantime, the Ministry will ask the Patih Madya to pass an urgent bill about the recognition of the new currency and its adoption as a second choice of legal currency trading in Pemecutan. "The minister thought this is the most reasonable decision that the country can make during the current domestic situation of Pemecutan. And we hope other members of The Mandaran Council will accept our decision," said the spokesperson. Aside from discusing about the currency, Patih Madya who was also has the chance to meet with Toluiwan Prime Minister, were talking about the possible change of Pemecutan position in The Mandaran Council. Patih Madya Ngurah Agus Kusumajaya, told Toluiwan Prime Minister, Fatur al-Fatah that the Council need to accept Kanginan and Petang Islands as the 7th and 8th members of the Council. Before, both constituent states of United Pemecutan are an associate member of the Council. They were at one time ask to become a full member following United Pemecutan banned from the Council because of their involvement in Soracana Islands civil war and their decision to take Soracana as their dependent country. But the process was taken too long that United Pemecutan eventually blocked the process after their banned was lifted in 1783. Government spokesperson stated that Toluiwan delegation were delighted with United Pemecutan decision to let Kanginan and Petang Islands to become a full member of the Council. "They said it was a great decision coming from Pemecutan," the spokesperson says. The status change might be bring up during the next The Mandaran Council annual meeting which will be held in Aksamara, Soracana Islands capital as Soracana Islands is the current president of the Council.

Elsewhere, the fast progressing of The Mandaran Council has created a rumor about the potential of the Council's members will be merging into a single sovereign country. Although none of the members government has hinted about the merging possibility but 3 countries have expressed their support if such move will ever be discus. The countries are Toluiwa, Gili Anakan and Rarungan. The latest poll which was conduct in all 6 members show that a high support of unification was shown in those countries. While a close divided opinion was seen in Pemecutan (including Kanginan and Petang Islands) and Soracana Islands. And Cakranegara was highly opposed. When asked about the possibility, the government spokesperson says that it would be way too far if we think about the unification of the Council into a single country. But it is not impossible. The future is wide open.

For the second time, the Black-and-Reds of the SRS will feature at the Eagle's Club, this time having properly earned their invitation as champions of Atlantian Oceania. The team is in their best form of the modern era, having made the knockouts of World Cup 93 in their first tournament under new manager Gareth Penrooke, and then followed that up with their run to the final of the AOCAF and victory over Gyatso-kai to claim the nation's first international footballing trophy since returning to the sport in Cycle 81. Under Penrooke, the team plays a fast-paced game, but still one that is possession-oriented. Players who were on particularly good form in the AOCAF Championship run include Thorgnyr Bondarov, Tyra Volam, and Blasko Titov, while others like Radoslav Blaha, Hamida Van, and Andze Nedeljkovic have earned their way onto the roster with excellent play for their respective clubs.

Squad notes: The EC isn't really a competition for newcomers, so I would imagine almost everyone we play against has seen many versions of my rosters over previous tournaments. You should by now know the basics about how Græntfjaller names work, our playing style, our approach to transfers, etc.; and if not, any previous WC or CR roster (not to mention EC!) will fill in the details and right quick.

The main explanatory note here concerns timing, an IC fudge I do not expect others to abide by in their own RPing. In my canon, this is taking place during a brief window in the Græntfjaller winter/Græntfjaller Multinesian summer (it's always summer there, though). All of our "home" matches will take place at the NHPSC (see below).

In keeping with previous EC squads this is not a full strength international side but is considered an international level one, with most players expected to have featured in the WCQ pool had we not been hosting, but some key starters rested.

Home arena: National High Performance Sports Center, Græntfjaller Multinesia

For Græntfjaller Eagl’e’s’ Cup teams, it has become a tradition for all ‘home’ games to be played at the National High Performance Sports Center. This obviates any home advantage and may in fact disadvantage Græntfjaller players who have previously struggled in tropical conditions, but there is a clear secondary aim of gaining experience in the conditions, which are likely to be hot and humid, but not unbearably so.

The NHPSC is a large multi-sports complex featuring training areas for almost every Olympic and other major sport that Græntfjall competes in. The stadium has now met its full planned capacity of 50,000 and is up to full international standards, though corporate hospitality remains limited in availability. The NHPSC is based in Græntfjaller Multinesia, the largest constituent island of the Græntfjaller South Indies. Where these lie is somewhat confusing as those consulting the Rushmori regional map will find no reference to them: they certainly exist though and lie in tropical oceans far to the south east/west/up/down/strange/charm/other of the Græntfjaller mainland.

The Græntfjaller South Indies were the only major colonial possession of the Queendom captured during the Age of Piracy. During the 20th century, Græntfjall fell under communist rule and the islands were granted independence, an unfortunate oversight which was quickly corrected in the immediate post-communist era, welcoming the islanders back under the benevolent and wise rule of the mainland, which has brought them many modern amenities such as industrial strip-mining of the landscape, while employment opportunities abound in the sweatshops of the Export Processing Zones that, free from international labor regulations, are veritable hives of industry churning out produce for the Græntfjaller and international markets nearly round-the-clock! Many natural beauty spots have been preserved, however, most of them now playing home to luxury vacation resorts, private residences, and golf courses.

There is a naval base, multiple air strips, and a full marine battalion, on the islands, and a heavily military presence is noticeable. There are some restricted areas where photography is not permitted and some areas of the islands are completely off-limits. Have no fear, though, security is assured, and terrorist groups such as the savage “Multinesian Human Rights Council” and “Indigenous People’s Clean Water Defence Fund” are being firmly policed to prevent any rogue action such as passing on documentation of the pollution of their tribal homelands.

Eagles Cup To Begin,
by Caitlyn Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

After one game in the Di Bradini Cup, CASE decided that it was more beneficial for key players on that roster to be playing in the Eagles Cup instead, causing some confusion as to why they were sent there in the first place. CASE President Stephanie Sweeney said of this, "It was in that first game against Cardenao where we realized these players were misplaced. We knew that those games would be over before the Eagles Cup began, but still thought the competition would be beneficial to our players. It was clear in that first match, that we had nothing to gain by having them there. Instead, we brought them here to the Eagles Cup to first practice with Gina Mendoza until Chen Huikang was back from the RTC Cup. Preparing for the World Cup is the most important thing to us, and the Eagles Cup team consists of the World Cup regulars, for the most part." Lexi McGregor said she approved of the decision, "Yeah, I mean, the Di Bradini Cup isn't where we want to be. I honestly couldn't up for it. You win the Copa Rushmori, after winning the RTC Cup the previous time, then it's going back to play in a junior tournament. I have already graduated for that type of competition."

We know that Lexi is overly opinionated, but when you think about everything that the 21-year old has done in her career up to this point, it's a fair question to wonder what she really had to gain from being in the Di Bradini Cup in the first place.
However, others, like Lauren Engle, could have had valuable experience. "Yeah, I was surprised that we were pulled like that," Engle told me soon after it happened, "I guess if the plan was for us to prepare with the senior team, then why did we even go there. But, this is where you want to be. You want to be with the senior team as much as you can." Sweeney mentioned something else that was very impactful, too, "When you think of the Engles, Rachel Wyman, and Shannon Cunningham, you have people who play in different leagues outside of Cassadaigua. I think it is great for them to be having success there, but Cassadagan coaches need to see what they are working with as much as possible, and we need all of these people to be working together as much as they can." Sweeney also said that Team Cassadaigua may not return to the Di Bradini Cup again. "With the RTC Cup being so great, that's our junior tournament. The fact is, in Cassadaigua, 19-21 year olds are already professional, and in some cases well accomplished professionals. Just look at Lexi McGregor. She's an extreme example, I realize, but her resume is bigger than many 40 year olds at this point. Why are we, now, sending her to play away from the senior team? I like the history of the Di Bradini Cup, but going forward, I think we have to realize what the better cutoff age for us, is. It's 18, not 21. I'm also not sure that we need to be splitting our prospect pool into two tournaments, causing extra work for our scouts and coaches."

The roster looks a lot like the Copa Rushmori roster, which makes sense, since that is the reason that they are in the Eagles Cup to begin with. They will be missing Rachel Boldin up front, as she recovers from tearing her ACL late in the CSL season. She also did not play in the Copa Rushmori. Rachel was hoping to be ready for this tournament, but Victoriaville South End manager Jessica Tolson talked her superstar forward out of targeting this competition. "Rachel needs to be back for us, and for the World Cup qualifiers," Tolson said, "The Eagles Cup is a nice tournament, but she sustained a serious injury, and we do not need her rushing her timetable of recovery. Maybe she could have gone, but it is best for her to be resting the injury." Boldin posted on social media that she will back in full force for the World Cup qualifiers.

Chen Huikang will be the manager, and this will be his third competition. He is 2-for-2 now with winning the titles of competitions he has managed but said he is not going to put any pressure on himself, "It's a good story for the media, but the players were the ones that won the titles. I am not going to say I didn't have anything to do with it, but that's more of a coincidental statistic than anything else. It's pretty cool to say, though. Right now in the Eagles Cup, our biggest priority is to prepare the team for the qualifiers, as that is where the biggest test will be. For all of us!"

New badge, mural for Caversham

Once upon a time, Caversham was a backwater town in the rolling hills of the state of Sothis. True, there was a reasonable trade in glassware and crystal, but they lagged behind the Audioslavians in that regard. Other than that, Caversham made headlines only in the occasional competency of the local football team and their oversized stadium. Funded mostly by public money signed of by the then-governor of Sothis, and Caversham native, Charles Serra, the Draconium Arena seats just over sixty-six thousand and was, for some years after its opening, about twice the size it needed to be.

Then came the biggest boost that Caversham could have envisioned; the annexation of the Protectorate of Ibixa. Almost as soon as the ink was dry on the documentation bringing Ibixa under the aegis of Emberton, so the trains and truck were sent southwards to collect the fine quality sand from the deserts that Krytenia's finest were determined to fashion into arable land. Two companies, glassmakers Cavglass and crystalware makers Sothiski, grew to dominate the market and challenge Audioslavia's superiority in the field. To reflect this,

Caversham's new team logo
Cavglass, already sponsors of Caversham FC, paid for a renovation of the West Stand including a massive stained-glass dragon, reflecting the club's nickname.

Fast forward to a few months ago, and the scaffolding once again went up along the West Stand facade. This time, it was as part of the club's new rebranded logo. The main entrance was reworked into a retro Art Deco style, with the new logo once again fashioned into a stained glass mural, backlit and resplendent in orange and green. Caversham is now a bustling city, with the big companies now joined by artisans with their boutique shops dotting the city centre. The club hopes they can join the city in growing into a footballing powerhouse - at the very least, the stadium is now usually three-quarters rather than half full. Time will tell if they can haul themselves up to the top table in the meantime.

NB: Draconium Arena, Caversham, will play host to all three of Krytenia's home matches in the group stage.

Manager: Cyril Kamembe (age: 47)

Born in the small transit village of Impangabiyaga on Statehood Day, Kirungan team manager Cyril Kamembe started his football journey as all of Kirungabi has: playing among his peers, on the banks of the twin lakes of his namesake hometown, with bushes and twigs for goals and anything as a ball. Kamembe, an ethnic Fupi, relocated to the Fupi-majority city of Imyuzure in 1985 amid economic hardship and flaring ethnic tensions in rural areas. Playing at the local Garçons du Port athletic club from 1988, Kamembe quickly honed his skills on the pitch to become one of the club's starting midfielders in the national single-level Championnat du Kirungabi de Fut in 1992, at the age of 16. Though the ensuing civil war cut his early playing career short amid the 1995 suspension of the Championnat until 2008, Kamembe returned to football at the ripe age of 34 a year after, playing for two more years before becoming manager of the GdP squad in 2017 after a small hiatus. He oversaw Championnat titles for GdP both as player and manager, including two successful championship defenses as the latter, and was selected by the Kirungabi Itangira Guhera Sporting Commission to spearhead the revival of the Kirungabi National Football Team before the 42nd Copa Rushmori. Though the regional tournament proved a modest debut for the squad, the experience led Kamembe to successfully guide an expanded national team to a thrilling Baptism of Fire title with a lossless streak to victory — a run of form he hopes to sustain going into the World Cup.

Assistant coach: August Abihayimana (age: 53)

Kamembe's second-hand man Abihayimana played alongside the head coach at Garçons du Port in their primes, completing the opposite midfield flank to his teammate in a near flawless partnership which netted them the 1994 Championnat title. Son of a working-class Barebare couple and born in Imyuzure, the GdP midfield star made his professional football debut three years prior to Kamembe, and the introduction of the fresh-faced Fupi player in 1992 unlocked a new level of performance in the local man. His star status initially had kept him from suffering the first blows of the Fupi genocide of the Barebare, but as the government of the People's Republic of Democratic Kirungabi began to lose its grip on power, the incitement of ethnic violence worsened. Abihayimana and his family successfully sought asylum in Græntfjall in 1996, and it wouldn't be until 2008, the year of the Championnat reboot, that the former #7 would return to the pitch. He shared one year on the field with his former teammate upon his return to football, before sticking beside him ever since in coaching roles at Garçons du Port.

Players

The Kirungabi Itangira Guhera Sporting Commission, in charge of the Kirungan football federation FEKIFUT, has finalized their selection for the Kirungan National Football Team's 26-strong Eagle's Cup squad. The roster is virtually unchanged since the Kitaran-hosted 43rd Copa Rushmori, despite a marginal performance from Kamembe's Baptism of Fire-winning squad, which saw them score a single goal throughout the entire tournament in their opening match. The only modification of note to the team's lineup is the long-awaited National Team debut of Quebecois/Kirungan dual-national prodigy Didier Garnacho Siboyintore, drafted in to replace George Nyirinkindi of Flambeau du Mugugu CS as part of the squad's midfield substitutes. Though not listed on the starting XI, head coach Kamembe has assured that Siboyintore "will have his debut in the first match." Kirungabi's absence from the 94th World Cup means that the team's participation in the 17th Cup of Champions, earned by virtue of their sensational Baptism of Fire breakthrough title, will be their last for the year.

First Lady Musabyimana Hails Minister Bukuramo as Inflation Slows

IMISOZI — First Lady Musabyimana Uburiganya has lauded the work of Economy and Trade minister Jean-Surprise Bukuramo for his "indispensable and unrelenting" commitment to curbing inflation in Kirungabi, as the numbers published by the Kirungabi Itangira Guhera Societal Affairs Commission have placed May's inflation rate at 2.9% — 0.3% down on the upwards-trending 3.2% rate of the month of April. The sudden resignation of former minister Ukuri Muganza in late February sent a shock through the Kirungan economy, with the mikopo falling 30% to the Euran pound in a week and prices of clothing and non-alcoholic beverages spiking 4% by the end of March. However, the swift appointment of Mr. Bukuramo by President Innocent Uburiganya in the highest office of the Economy and Trade ministry, following days of uncertainty and instability, quickly quelled fears of a sudden, spiraling crisis.

"Jean-Surprise has done my husband and I a great honor throughout his tenure as minister thus far," explained the First Lady in a televised address from the Palace of the Thousand Hills. "The irresponsible and traumatic resignation of minister Muganza, motivated by political sectors unconcerned with the well-being of the Kirungan people, threatened to set off a chain reaction of effects across our economy. Despite this, it was thanks to the quick thinking of our President that he was able to swiftly find a suitable replacement ready to weather the incoming storm. Fear not: the economic shock of February was an isolated event; Minister Bukuramo will make sure that our economy never finds itself in such a situation again."

According to Kirungabi Itangira Guhera Societal Affairs Commission, since the start of the organization's surveys in 2010, inflation has been a stable variable for the Kirungan economy, descending from a yearly rate of 15% in the first year of data to 6% for the latest year. Though the Kirungabi Development Front government was unable to start economic measurements before that year, historically, inflation rates had been a heavy weight on the Kirungan economy. Starting in the early 1980s, with the dawn of the genocidal regime of the People's Republic of Democratic Kirungabi, historically stable inflation rates began to rise rapidly as the decade wore on, the government's planned economy stalled, and the budget allocated to the economic and infrastructural reforms of the People's Party of Kirungabi were funneled into the country's large, inefficient, and undisciplined armed forces. Rates hiked from a steady 5% to over 200% year-over-year in less than half a decade, and as the threat of civil unrest and the start of the Kirungan Civil War loomed, prices began to spiral upwards in tandem with the fall of the Kirungan convertible senti. Official sources of the People's Party of Kirungabi stopped inflation measurements in 1995, though experts believe prices may have increased by upwards of 1,000% at the peak of the Kirungan Civil War — as the informal economy either raised prices further, operated in foreign coin, or forwent the use of currency altogether.

Since the arrival of Minister Bukuramo to the Economy and Trade ministry, the rise of inflation has stalled, and the mikopo has recovered half of its value against the Euran pound. However, the newly-appointed minister assured that the brief devaluation of the mikopo could have even construed a benefit for the country's economy. "The devaluation spike of course had an effect on consumer prices," explained Bukuramo in an RTK interview. "However, a weaker currency for the past few months has helped to ramp up our exports: we became a more competitive market as a result of the devaluation, and for the past few months, we have hit record numbers in income from foreign trade, mostly thanks to agricultural exports and the surging industrial sector in Gusohora." Despite the positive knock-on effects, the minister assured that returning the Kirungan economy to its stable prior state is his priority. "Of course, we must place the well-being of our own people at the forefront of everything we do as politicians. Kirungabi is a very economically stable country to live in: it's important that it stays this way."

NS Record—374 wins, 133 losses, 101 draws (608 matches)

style--+2.875
Formation--3-4-1-2

In the “BP System” or the “BP Way” (neither of those should be considered as something used officially or unofficially—if you wanted to term it as such as something of your own IC creation, go for it) the 3-4-1-2 is more literal than the manner in which it's used RL.
A discussion I had with another user made me contemplate providing a bit more concrete info on just who plays where when you see my lineups/bench for individual matches.
Defense: the three backs play tight to one another when the ball is in the middle or defensive thirds—they should really be termed LCB/CCB/RCB. The outside pair will never be wider than diameter of the center circle. They both man-mark (unless there is an IC tactical reason they don't) and the centerback zonal marks (usually helping one of the other two). The CB is technically a fullback as they have more freedom to move forward with the ball at feet. In a pinch, an emergency situation as a sub, they could all play any of the three positions.
Midfield: there is a good deal of set responsibility among the four across midfield, but the one thing that is always a constant is the wings are the workhorses, they cover more distance than the other players. I've hinted at or flat out said in match reports in the past that left wing (and they are 99.9% of time always left footed) is THE talismanic position in The System, as right fullback is considered (in BP) as usually the weakest position in a flat back four.
The two central midfielders usually have a specific role, one as the playmaker, the distributor and the other as the defensive, hard tackler, disruptor, ball winner.
The preferred position is listed first, but the ones that follow show how versatile that player is. For CM's the left/right designation is the stronger side for that player, but in theory almost anyone in midfield can play in the center of midfield.
Forward: Ah yes, the wild card element. In this case, the differentiation should be looked at from the perspective of another sport—basketball.
The three positions are almost adapted from the indoor game: the center forward, the target man, the number 9—the one who plays up front but facing away from the goal. Mostly it's men who hold down this role in the NT, although not always.
The striker—they want to be played into an area by a pass, or want room to get a touch before shooting. They face goal, but usually in or very close to the box.
The 'slot'--what a lot of people call the attacking midfielder or the CAM. This is a player that can dribble and create their own shot, or draw defenders and find others. There's a reason why this position can be played by a midfielder or a forward and the rationale usually depends on a chemistry between a pair or trio. West, Craig & Pryor will go down in history as the most prolific combo because the man developed a good rapport with the women who were club teammates.
In conclusion—BP should always be RP'd (of course at your discretion, and I will always adapt to anyone who RP's first if something that's not necessarily canon is mentioned) as--

*fast, short passing
*high lines & pressing
*offside trap
*technically sound
*not easily intimidated
*willing to play anyone, anywhere

National Anthem--"Hear Our Voices Commonwealth"

Nickname--since the end of the 1960's the National Team has been known as "The Bees", a period when the team's uniforms consisted of alternating black and gold hoops.
Previous to that time and subsequently through periods in the 1980's and 90's, the team was usually referred to by the county's national animal, the Elks; the women's National Team were always 'Lady Elks' until the advent of mixed gender play, which was revived during the Jenna Raven Cup and there are still numerous mentions of Elks in the supporters song “We are the Gold & Black”, which currently has close to 175 stanzas.

Colors--Black & Gold (while they are just 2 of the 5 main colors on the flag of Baker Park--Blue, Red and White are the others--black & gold have been closely associated in the nation's consciousness as representative of the country since its founding.)

Overview
The Commonwealth National Team made a late U-turn on participating in the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy after originally choosing to prepare for World Cup 94 Qualifying by resuming a series of friendlies against various nations.
Despite media reports of dubious veracity that an offer of a substantial guaranteed payout to the FAC changed hearts and minds at 333 State Street, the BPNT will pursue split squad pre-qualifying preparations that will include home & home matchups against longtime rivals from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec & Shingoryeo and the Busoga Islands in addition to emerging youth development powerhouse Elmyia; BP have made the semi-finals of the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy in three of the last four editions within the Eagles Cup competition (EC 12/14/15) to go along with their victory in the Cup of Champions in EC13.

Zoe Montgomery will bring substantial experience from her previous tenure as co-manager of the Under-18 National Team alongside Darren Kirby, coupled with her success at Bakermouth FC in the Euran Overseas Territory to her introduction as acting manager of the Commonwealth National Team; the philosophical shifts that BPNT boss Will Barnard and Montgomery have mapped out in the leadup to this point got limited cameo appearances in Tropicorp, Valanora and here in the Commonwealth during the most recent RTC U18 tourney.

The end of the World Cup 93 Finals drew a sharp dividing line under the Commonwealth's reputation as a legitimate contender for making the quarterfinal or semi-final; the first step towards recovering a place in the top 15 starts with Eagles Cup XVI.

This BPNT will go with a single kit choice, although in any case where there is a conflict, a solid black shirt with just the crest will be used

Venues
Image
County Central Ground, Andover (10,200)
Andover Borough have played on this site since their founding in 1895. It goes without saying that Championship and 2nd Division sides don't relish playing cup ties here.

Image
Whelan's Grove, Seymour (~7,500)
Pay no mind to the stands in the shade at the top left--that was the original seating from the 1920's when the Seymour Sports Association had been playing on this site for a few years; why hasn't it been dismantled after having been condemned in 1956? Nobody is really sure nor do they think much about it.

Image
Frederick Arbor Park, Frederickstown (7,700)
The success of Sherwood Forest Ladies has made Arbor Park (no one bothers using the full name these days) a familiar locale to television viewers across the multiverse tuning in to the IFCF Liga B Trophy.
Weird location, said to be haunted, within a geographic belt that has its own micro-climate (temperature/precipitation abnormalities relative to nearby communities), supporters who are almost too friendly. Don't give any of it a second thought.

Turori National Team

Head Coach: Tarek Edgeli
After spending 3 seasons being trained in Crosaibi at Marine Coast United, Edgeli made the switch down the coast to the Lonngeylin Coliseum for Season 43. While Strike were unable to win any silverware, Edgeli fit straight into the squad as one of the top performing defenders in the entire league earning instant plaudits and recognition back in Turori. Edgeli would be an ever-present in the Turorian squad earning the role of captain as the team advanced to the World Cup Semi Finals for the first time in the nations history at World Cup 81 in the Free Republics and Banija. After a long absence from regional competition, Edgeli, retired from the Turori National Team, would captain the Vilita and Turori National Team during the 60th AOCAF Competition.

After working with the Vilita & Turori National Team for two campaigns including the Olympic Games, Edgeli took on the role of head coach for the Turori National Team during the Eagle’s Cup XIX Competition and after leading the team to a Bronze Medal in the first attempt, returned to coach the team again during Eagle's Cup X. While Edgeli's Eel's came up just short again, earning their second consecutive Bronze Medal, the performance was enough to convince the Football Association of Turori that Edgeli was their coach of the future; relieving long time coach Klailall Tuirma of the Head Coaching duties by promoting Tuirma to the role as Competition Director of the Football Association of Turori while assigning Edgeli to the role of Turori National Team Manager for the World Cup 88 Cycle. In their first cycle as Head Coach of the Turori National Team, Tarek Edgeli led the Eels to their first World Cup Title.

Nickname: The Eels

Style: -1.23

The coaches will select the squad from the National Player pool. Players are listed below, grouped by position and sorted by projection 'Depth Chart' position where the top player listed is most likely to be named the first player selected for that position, and so on. Depth chart positions are determined by performance in pre-cup training sessions, as well as performance and average ratings in the Vilitan League competition and previous appearances for the National Team.

Note 'Caps" are shown are currently on record for Turorian Players on from the start of World Cup 80 due to federation budget re-allocations during this time period to the Cocoabo Enrichment & Enhancement Project (CEEP)

Instead of staying local, Derizi opted to take their talents to Eura joining Revolutionaries as they look to take their career to the next level overseas. Amatopa’s first internationstatal tournament came with the Vilitan Union at the XIV Olympic Games and the youngster would earn a Gold Medal despite not appearing in any of the matches. Amatopa would also start the majority of matches for the Turori National Team during Eagle’s Cup X where Turori earned the Bronze Medal. On a Domestic level, Amatopa took over as starting goalkeeper for Revolutionaries at the age of 18 and earned Goalkeeper of the Season Honors during EuraLeague 45 after leading Revolutionaries to the Euraleague Title. The Room of Gold: Tumbra's Most Enduring Mystery

Visitors to the old royal palace of Tumbra — Ashington Palace, in central Kingsbury — will notice a single room that noticeably looks much sparser and considerably more modern than every other room in the palace. Where every other part of the palace is decorated as ornately as it was when the former Tumbran royal family occupied it in the 18th and 19th centuries, this one room has bare concrete walls, exposed wiring, and could easily be confused for a storage facility. To any conservationist or historian unfamiliar with the subject matter, this might seem like a travesty against history; what is a room like this, so obviously out of place, doing in this palace?

Yet this room is central to perhaps the most enduring mystery of Tumbran royal family; one that has spawned books, films, and more on what happened to it. A small metal plaque outside the room tells the story of what the room is. The room, the plaque reads, used to be full of gold. It was so full of gold, in fact, that it was officially given the name of the Gold Room; and almost every facet of it was made of gold, painted in gold, or something close to it. Photographs of the room in the 1840s exist, and hand-coloured versions of it get do provide an impression the sheer glory of the room.

The difference between the ornately furnished room and the concrete-furnished, modernist room of today, could not be more pronounced. Around the room lie photographs or paintings of the room as it was during the Imperial Era; when contrasted against the bare, functional room of today, and there's a stark difference. The Gold Room is the only exhibit of its kind in Ashington Palace; most of the palace is left as is, with only some comforts of modern life — unobtrusive lighting and airconditioning being the main two improvements — present in the Palace. Most of the actual 'history' bit is consigned to the Ashington Palace Museum, a building built in the 1970s in the style of the palace, but with all the trappings of modern museums.

But what happened to the room?

The last recorded instance of the room can be found in 1872; as the second, later stage of the Tumbran Civil War was slowly drawing to a close. Historical records of this period of the Imperial Family's existence are rare; they were mostly destroyed or carted off to the family's residence of Montego, which has refused access to many of their own archives. Bitterness at being removed from their birthright remains still, and wounds run deep; the latest head of the House of Terenberg, Felix II, remains an ardent claimant on Tumbra, claiming that the Treaty of Staplewood, which abolished the monarchy, was illegitimate and signed under duress.

By the time troops reached Kingsbury in 1875 — over a decade after the start of hostilities — the room was gone. Stripped bare, no furnishings; every single bit of gold in the room had been removed. William V, now captive of the Federal Republic, claimed that it had been sold off to finance the war; and that the gold was unrecoverable. The Federal Republic, for its part, set up a commission to try and recover as much of it as possible — but recovered almost nothing for the eight years it was in operation. In short, the Gold Room had vanished.

Conspiracy theories remain over where the gold has gone; some say the gold was indeed melted down, and is now in a vault in Kotzellach, banking haven of the rich and famous; some say the room was transported, bit by bit, to Montego once William V realised the war was unwinnable; some say it was taken by debtors once the currency of the Empire lost its value. Whatever the truth is, it's certainly provided plenty of fodder for authors, playwrights and directors alike.

The mystery of the Gold Room will never be solved — nor will the palpable anger the old Imperial Family and Federal Government hold toward each other — but at least we're getting some good cinema out of it.

Selection of articles from Græntfjaller news media.

Concern mounts over readiness of Eagl’e’s’ Club stadium

The Eagl’e’s’ Club, the new stadium being built following Græntfjall’s triumph in Eagl’e’s’ Cup 15, may not be ready in time for World Cup 94, according to a leaked report published in the tabloid ND. Cost overruns, planning disputes, administrative errors, and “the fact we forgot we were meant to build one until a few minutes before we started writing this RP” have all contributed to delays in a project that should have been completed last year. “Delivery for anticipated World Cup 94 schedule remains 90% on track,” says the project manager’s report, which was leaked to the newspaper last week, “But unfortunately that 10% is ‘the bit that stops the stadium from collapsing like a matchbox’.” The project manager report indicates attempts have been made to order “the bit”, but that it remains on order owing to unspecified backlogs in the supply chain. The Eagl’e’s’ Cup stadium was given personal blessing by Prime Minister Kaija Michaelsdóttir, who said the project had “excited” her and that she was “confident” in it being delivered time, though in a recent committee hearing she professed to “not being familiar with that particular project” and suggesting the Treasury Department had overall responsibility.

When Græntfjall bid to host World Cup 94 with Kelssek, it was anticipated that the new Eagl’e’s’ Club venue would take pride of place in the hosting rotation, and was even in consideration for the final. World Cup 91, the previous World Cup hosted by Græntfjall, held its final at the GT Estadio Fútbol De Musarañas De Oro in Háttmark, but KG are now keen to downplay Græntfjaller links with controversial Tequiloan multinational GT (Grupo Taxhavn), the site’s sponsors, following a damning international inquiry into alleged tax evasion and nefarious activities. According to the report, Grupo Taxhavn are guilty of “.”, may have carried out “.”, and have been responsible for numerous counts of “.” (edited by Tequilo September 2023). Molding, the Græntfjaller team owned and sponsored by Grupo Taxhavn and who have competed as GT Molding in domestic competition over the last decade, are reported to be seeking a new buyer in what has been a turbulent few years financially for Græntfjaller football.

“This latest incident continues the long trend of one of the world’s best teams on the field being let down by chaotic management off the field,” said football journalist Olle Tobiasson, who said that KG should seek new management and specifically head-hunt a foreign football administrator. “The game needs cleaning up.” Former national team captain and World Cup Hall of Fame defender Hjörleifur Reynarsson agreed that KG needed “reform” but said “head-hunting sounds a bit extreme”, before lengthy attempts were made to explain to him that Tobiasson was not advocating literally hunting humans for sport. “Though, at this stage, it probably couldn’t hurt,” said Tobiasson. Once ranked in the top 32 in the world for domestic football, Græntfjall’s IFCF ranking has plummeted after serving successive bans for failing to address discriminatory and abusive crowd behavior, and then for the match-fixing scandal involving Verdean defender Roberto Dylan’s use of an “autopen” to take penalty kicks.

Græntfjall’s troubling history of antisemitic conspiracy theories revived in shootout

The investigation into the Tálknajavík farm shootout, during which members of a far-right militia were detained by police and which led to the shooting death of one member of the militia has described the group’s ideologies as “offensive, hateful and profoundly antisemitic”, reviving fears about a lingering, and baffling, strain of conspiracism in a country with a Jewish population of less than half a percent. Prime Minister Kaija Michaelsdóttir has pledged “an all out assault” on far-right groups, who have grown in numbers and influence in the last decade in Græntfjall, while expressing that she would support the investigation’s eventual conclusions into the lawfulness of the shooting. A disturbing trend of rising antisemitic hate crimes has thus far mainly been attributed to the explosive growth in Græntfjall’s Muslim population in the era of open borders, but a growing number of incidents are being linked to far-right, White Nationalist and Christian Identity groups.

Græntfjall’s history of antisemitism dates back to the Crusades and reached its apotheosis in the Sankt Jakob’s Day massacre during the Wars of Religion, following which the majority of Græntfjaller Jews left the mainland for the Hofvinger peninsula. Relations between the Catholic majority and minority religious groups in the modern era were further damaged during the 20th century Communist Union rule, during which the disproportionately high number of Jews in Party positions led to conspiracy theories about “Jewish Communism”. “The involvement of Jews in the communist movement has to be understood in the context of a people who had endured decades, centuries of oppression, and naturally identified with the only movement offering emancipation and equality,” explains historian of Jewish Studies Hiram Tzionsson. He observes that Græntfjall only repealed the last of its antisemitic ordnances in the wake of the fall of communism – “astonishingly late by international standards”.

The Mutri Blues Scandal
Part 1

Only 3 players out of the final Eagle's Cup roster of 26 trace their heritage to Molvania. Goalkeeper Radoslav Blaha, center half Blasko Titov, and striker Andze Nedeljkovic all came up through the youth academy of Lublova Reds FC. Lublova was the lone representative of the state of Molvania in the top tier of Confederate football last season, and will be again in the coming year. FC Sjerezo were the state's next best side, placing sixth in League 1. Lublova's second club, Dynamo, also finished in the second tier, hanging on to fifteenth a few spots clear of relegation, but the majority of Molvania's teams are mired in the lower echelons of the SCFA pyramid, with four in League 2 and seven in League 3. The question is thus frequently and appropriately posed: what has gone wrong in Molvanian football? After all, Molvania was not so long ago an independent nation, competing in the world cup in its own right, and sending multiple players to the old Squornshelan national team even after its conquest and absorption into the Imperium.

Of course, we've been dancing around the royal blue elephant in this particular room thus far.

Interblag FC play in Lutenblag, Molvania's state capital. They are the oldest Molvanian football club, and for much of their history have been the richest and most successful as well, with Sjerezo and Gryrorik their historical rivals and Lublova considered by many Interblag supporters as something of a Johnny-come-lately club. Yet they have been noticeably absent from the Superleague for the past eight years. In the most recent campaign, they finished just behind Sjerezo, taking seventh in League 1. This absence, and the downturn in fortunes of Molvanian football as a whole are interconnected, but to see the relationship, we'll have to turn the clock back to SCFA Season 10, and beyond.

It is World Cup Cycle 81. The SRS is newly returned to the international stage of football, and the SCFA has been established to administer both the fledgling national team, and the newly united Confederate league system. In the SRS, which has seen its clubs divided among five state leagues for the better part of a century, there is little doubt that the sport is played at the highest level on the fields of Molvania. While Lopal Daror's defensive bulwark proves sufficient to bring the inaugural championship to Traal, Lublova and Interblag finish second and third, and both teams boast large cadres of international caliber talent. Under highly regarded manager Titor Hlinka, Interblag keep nearly as tidy a goal as Traal, and are rewarded with a trip to the Globe Cup. But with the gates to the multiverse now thrown wide and the promise of greater riches and prizes at hand, they struggle to retain that talent. Interblag bring in 11M NSD in transfer fees that next window, but must part with five of their best in the process. Robbed of so much of their star power, Interblag regressed significantly, and failed to finish well enough to earn an invitation to the newly formed Superleague. Quite suddenly, the blue bloods of Molvanian football had found themselves a second-tier club.

It is around this time that things begin to become somewhat murky. There had always been some degree of . . . shall we say amiable relations between football clubs and organized crime. This is hardly limited to Molvania, but it was in that state which things really did get quite out of hand. Mafiosos can be football fans as well, and many of them are quite accustomed to getting their own way all the time. Thus it was with the leaders of the Mutri branch of the Molvanian mafia, who controlled a significant portion of the illicit drug and weapon trade in Lutenblag. After a disastrous Season 3 that saw the Blues again fail to earn promotion to the Superleague, the Mutri began funneling money into the club. Able to retain a cadre of talented young players that included center halves Davorka Sevcik and Krzesimir Hadjiev, goalkeeper Marzanna Furnadjev, fullback Prijat Vodsavo, and midfielders Jovanka Yaruga and Stela Dzunovski, Interblag rebounded to sixth the following year, and in Season 5 won League 1, finally earning their long coveted spot in the Superleague.

All was not as it seemed, however, as it was not only the excellence of their youth graduates that had propelled Interblag upward . . .
