It is our singular privilege to welcome all first time entrants into the NSWC to the preliminary showcase for debutantes, the Baptism of Fire. This is the 81st edition of the tournament that is unique in that a nation only has one chance at winning it, there can never be a repeat BOF champion. The team lifting the trophy at the BBP National Stadium in Belle Haven at the conclusion of this tournament will be immortalized in history.

The Football Association of the Commonwealth of Baker Park has long coveted a chance to welcome this event to our nation as we were the runner-up of BOF 67 in Banija & Qasden; it set our nation down a path that we continue to travel today by propelling us to qualification for the World Cup 80 Finals on our debut. We cannot promise any participants that you will have the same luck, but your performance here will lay the groundwork for the qualification tournament for World Cup 94 hosted by Græntfjall & Kelssek.

The tournament can be the place where you develop rivalries with other nations that will last into the future, both competitive and friendly—it becomes a part of your identity, your “Class” so to speak—and can work to introduce your nation to a wider recognition across the NS multiverse.

All nations that have entered the Baptism of Fire are free to begin posting rosters and role play in this thread immediately.

Let's start out with some things You Need to Know Now:

Roster—the most important thing you can do is to post a roster of your players. Obviously this is a sport and sports need players. The amount of detail is up to you, but the more info you provide, the better everyone is informed about how to interact with your nation. Also, a roster is worth a single cutoff day's maximum worth of RP bonus and with everyone starting at zero, you don't want to be at a disadvantage early on.

The White Winter Queendom of Græntfjall devised a detailed Players Guide for BOF 76, and has given generous permission for us to quote from it:

The first thing you should do is create and post a roster. Doing so will earn you some RP bonus which will help your chances of winning; more importantly, it will create a better RPing environment for everyone. It’s hard to RP a 2 – 1 game without any idea who might have scored the goals! The bare minimum for a roster is 11 names, but obviously you can add much more detail. Here are some suggestions:
The name of your team, the nickname, playing kit(s), crest/logo.
Player details such as age, vital statistics, playing position, domestic club, role on team, even a brief bio.
Tactical details such as the coaching staff, the formation employed, style of play, expected substitutions.
Information about fans who might attend the games.

You need not include every single element, but depending upon how much info you provide to set up the rest of your nation's RP, it could count for additional bonus towards your first cutoff total in addition to the guaranteed bonus for posting.

Style mod—a style is used to determine how your team will play. The range is -5 (most defensive) to +5 (most offensive) with 0 as the midpoint. They can be whole numbers or decimalized, but one drawback is it's hard to assign outright a particular specific method of playing within the range. (Would Manchester City be accurately portrayed as a +5, or a +2/+3?)
A nation can make ONE change to their mod by informing the host in advance via TG or a clear public statement in an RP during the duration of the tournament.

you can post a style modifier in your roster. This is a number between -5 and +5, which indicates how attacking your team’s style of play is. A -5 team is very defensive, with a lot of emphasis on preventing the other team from scoring, even at the expense of scoring themselves. A +5 team is very attacking, with a lot of emphasis on scoring goals, even at the risk of conceding to the other team. If you do not submit a style modifier, your team will automatically be assigned a 0 modifier indicating equal balance between offense and defense. (In practice, because most people tend to submit offensive modifiers, the overall average is usually slightly positive.) A style modifier has no impact on your chance of winning: it is purely cosmetic and used to determine whether you are more likely to win (or lose!) 5–4 or 1–0.

Permissions—there is a standardized RP permissions box that every nation should include in a post with your roster. It can be at the bottom, set off in a box.

Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes/No
Choose Scoring Events: Yes/No
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes/No
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes/No
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes/No
Assign Red Cards to my Players: Yes/No
Godmod Other Events: Yes/No

Style Modifier: optional

‘Godmod’ or ‘godmode’ in NS Sport generally means RPing weird and unusual events outside the norm. A defender scoring a goal is not godmodding, but a player getting annoyed at a mascot on the sidelines and kicking the ball towards them, only for it to bounce off their fursuit into the goal, would be godmodding. You must follow other users’ RP permissions boxes. You may add additional permissions beyond those listed in the box so long as they do not unreasonably impact others’ RPing e.g. you can request no photographic pictures used to represent your players, but you may not demand other players RP your players as being the best.

Practical Working details
There will be a blind draw to determine group assignments, followed by the determination of the schedule.

The cutoff point for a given RP period will be posted and all posts submitted from the previous Matchday to that cutoff will be graded, then the matches scorinated by xkorinate. The results will follow within 10-30 minutes after that.

The host will offer up a scenario or suggestion that can be used by all competitors if an idea for a storyline just doesn't seem to be coming easily. The use of the selected topic is totally voluntary—there is no extra bonus for using it nor any penalty if it is ignored. Often, it can combined into something that you already planned. It's available as an aid to writing only. Also, it doesn't have to be used exclusively during the period it is offered; if the first matchday prompt might fit into something you have in mind at the end of the tournament, by all means, use it. Again, it for your benefit.

Use of AI in RP (written and graphic)
We have crossed into a new territory with the rise of AI programs for creative purposes. It is MY hosting policy that ATTRIBUTION is the line I draw quite firmly. I don't want to read 500-800 words generated by a ChatAI. Number one, it's lazy and I will be bored. Inserting into something you write yourself as part of the story, and admitting it up front, I have no problem with. Same with graphics/pictures/gifs etc. Say up front what it is. Don't violate other people's permissions if they request that you not use graphic representations and identify them as an opposing player—UNLESS you have contacted the other nation and have made some agreement before hand. You should also state that as well. Transgression will result in loss of accumulated bonus points.

**Also, not everyone is perfectly proficient in writing in the English language, even those of us who have spoken it exclusively. I give wide latitude to those people who make honest grammatical and sentence structure “errors” because they speak languages other than English. If I can grasp the idea of what you are trying to convey, your effort is more important than your perfection.

Let's have fun, let's get all of you set for your first foray into the living hell excitement that WCQ is.

Schedule

Group Draw will occur on Monday June 4 at 9:00pm Eastern Daylight Time.
Currently we have 30 nations signed up and one nation on the waitlist. If another nation expresses an interest in the WC signup thread prior to the Draw, we will have four groups with eight nations each, which will see an adjustment of the schedule below. If we remain at 30 entries, there will be six groups of five along the time frame listed.

We will utilize a format where each cutoff period will cover two match days except for the final cutoff when there will be just one match. This is the same as the format that is used in World Cup Qualifying to prevent a situation where there is pressure to RP something every day for 5 or 6 days in a row. It doesn't prevent you from making two post in a 48 hour period, or just one lengthy post with perhaps a storyline and then a separate match report from a media source such as this example from the last World Cup

The first cutoff for MD 1 & 2 will be Sunday June 11 at 11 pm Eastern Daylight Time in the US, which corresponds to Monday June 12 at 0300 UTC/0400 BST/0500 Central Europe, 1100 Singapore/Beijing, 1200 Tokyo, 1300 Sydney, 1500 Auckland.

The Commonwealth of Baker Park Travel Guide and Map
Image

So, you're here! What's the deal?

The Commonwealth consists of seven constituent states—the State of Baker Park, Endover, Osheana, Ezra, Midalia, St Leon, and Lynchana—each with their own unicameral legislative body. They are united as a federal parliamentary democracy; the Parliament consists of the 231 member House of Assembly and the 56 member Council of State. The Prime Minister is the Head of the Government which is currently held by Mrs Rebecca Schoenlien, having been re-elected to a third 5 year term that began in March. She is the leader of the Federalist Party of Baker Park, which has governed the nation continuously since 1951 under six different Prime Ministers.

From 1893 until 1978, the central figure of country was the Prince Regent, whose duties were largely ceremonial although he held a few specific rights and privileges; the unexpected death of Prince Daniel in 1978 left the country unprepared, as there was no immediate successor. The position was renamed Head of State and it became an elected office in 1996. Timothy M Wentworth is the current holder of the office, halfway through serving the first of his two permitted six year terms.

We are centrally located within Atlantian Oceana and proud to be one of the top tourist destinations in the region and the multiverse, welcoming nearly 2 million visitors per year. Outdoor activities, parks, museums and cultural sites, natural scenery under strict conservation, and ease of travel around all 182,600 square miles of the Commonwealth are several factors in why so many from outside the country choose to spend holiday time here.

Belle Haven is the national capital of the Commonwealth, with a metro area population of over 5.6 million inhabitants—more than 10% of the country's total population of 53,000,000--making it the largest city as well as the financial, entertainment, and cultural center of the country.

The engine that drives the country's economy is the industrial conglomerate that was founded by the family that established the nation, the Baker International Corporation. Known by citizens as "The Company" or "the International" or just BI, at one time in the 1950's it was responsible for close to 50% of the nation's GDP; over the past 40 years it has divested itself from many of the companies that dominated the economy, opening up opportunities for more investment and growth for both those entities and competitors alike.

What to Know while You're here.
Baker Park prides itself on the equality of citizens, our respect for the rule of law, and the wide array of civil liberties that are important as the foundation of our society. We protect the basic rights of all individuals no matter their identity.

--Most bars and pubs have closing time at 3am, and only such establishments that serve food can legally open prior to 11:15 am to serve alcohol. The legal age for purchase and consumption of both beer and spirits is 18.
--We have legalized gambling in Baker Park; there is a modern casino downtown in Belle Haven as well as casinos in East Liverpool (just south of Endborough) and suburban Oceana. Additionally, there are video poker/slot facilities at various horse tracks, sports books, and the National Lottery.
--Cannabis is legal for use and purchase, but please do not bring your own, nor should you attempt to bring other 'hard drugs' into the country. Prostitution is not illegal, but not technically legal either. By law, prostitution or solicitation can be charged as no more than minor misdemeanors, although in some places it is not a criminal offense at all.
--Violent crime is extremely rare in the Commonwealth. There is a higher chance you will fall off a subway platform than be assaulted or robbed with a firearm, and we take enormous pride in the safety of our subways systems. 099 is the universal emergency response phone number, and especially in cities there are emergency call boxes that are well marked.

Police in Baker Park's largest cities have adopted a crowd control policy that is best described as 'hands off, but non-negotiable' for large gatherings involving sport. Generally a perimeter is established and intervention only occurs if danger to oneself or others is likely. They're not looking to arrest anyone, unless you go out of your way to give them a reason to.

About our People
The Commonwealth is a diverse cultural, multi-racial, tolerant nation; we are a country built by immigrants and we continue to welcome upwards of 95,000 new arrivals from across the multiverse every year.
People in Baker Park tend to be formal or deferential to strangers when you first meet them; this is something of an ingrained relic of the values and lessons of our ancestors, as 'propriety' is a word that every child & teen has drilled into their head from an early age. Yet Parkers are extremely quick to make a friend and no one remains a stranger for long, as we are a curious nation eager to learn about people (and other individuals) and cultures from across the multiverse. Even people from nations we have had political differences with in the past have always been afforded respect and courtesy.

You'll probably notice fairly early on that we have a bit of Victoriana fetish here in Baker Park, it's really hard to miss; if you hear the term “VC”, that's reference to the so-called 'Victoria Cult' that the nation was trapped in--according to the youth generation of the 60's, 70's and 80's--by norms and outdated thinking. Later, it became a retro kitsch movement (pushed by the same group that hated it), a bit of a satirical self reference. She's been dead for over a century and a quarter yet her grim visage stares back at us on two different denominations of coin (50 cents [a 'Vickie'] and the 2 dollar [a 'Vic'])
We have parks, buildings, bars, restaurants, streets, schools, political divisions and anything else you can think of named for Victoria, her spouse, family and every other reference to her; almost every adult over the age of 35 in this county knows some arcane trivia fact about the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Not because they necessarily want to.

Travel
Travel in Baker Park is easy and safe due to the modern mass transportation infrastructure that the country has built over the last 80 years. Connections to major cities are available via rail, road, plane or ferry. Rental cars are available at relatively modest rates, as competition is fierce among rental firms; almost any type of vehicle you might wish to hire is available, as the Commonwealth automobile market is made up of about 35% imports, so you'll find about any make or model you could imagine here. You can easily roll around town in a rental car that would be nearly impossible to afford in most other nations (as long as you have a valid Driver's License in your home country).

Within the Greater City of Belle Haven area, public transportation is widely available across several platforms; CARTA (Capital Area Rapid Transit Authority) provides for public buses, a modern light-rail network, a clean & efficient subway system and connections to commuter and interstate rail lines.
Transit fares are equalized across all types of accommodation; 1 day, 3 day and 7 day passes each offer discounts off the regular single ride price, and the system is fully integrated; one price allows you to access to any CARTA mode of transport along with transfers.

Several other cities throughout the country have initiated or improved their commuter rapid transit systems over the past several years as people move farther away from core city areas; Endborough, Oceana, Ezriquay, and Lima have expansive subway/surface rail systems that generally operate along a similar model as CARTA.

Baker Park's limited access expressway grid connects all areas of the Commonwealth with the capital.
It is an enduring monument to the extensive public works initiatives introduced in the 1950's and 60's to bring the Commonwealth an ability to grow the economy quickly.
On major 'A' highways, the speed limit in less populated areas is 75, but that drops to 60 where the road goes through town and city centers.

The inter-city river ferry system is a popular option for travelers on day trips or weekend visits. There are vehicle and passenger-only options that operate on hourly schedules or dedicated point to point trips. The Belle Haven River remains a vital transportation artery in the Commonwealth even in the age of overnight, just in time logistics.

Belle Haven International Airport (BHX) serves 41 foreign & domestic carriers and accommodates over 900 takeoffs and departures per day. The airport is approximately 18 miles south of the city center, and there are numerous ground transportation options for arriving visitors at Belle Haven International; Metro Transit Buses, commuter rail, taxis, for hire limos, private coaches, rental cars and both private hub-to-hub & hotel shuttles are available to carry the traveler to any part of the city (or further) as needed.

There are also large airports that serve the other areas of the Commonwealth where matches will be played. Oceana, Ezriquay/Newport, Endborough, and Shirley/Coolville have International standard airports, capable of handling inbound flights from anywhere in the multiverse.

Money
Baker Park's currency is the CBP dollar (C$); generally NS$ 1 is equivalent to about C$ 1.35. Exchange rates at retail level are consistent, but if in doubt use of credit/debit guarantees you will receive the most current one.
The monetary system is decimalized and denominations are 2, 5, 10 and 50 cent coins, 1 and 2 dollar coins, and 5, 10, 25, 100 and 500 dollar notes.
As a result of the 1998 elimination of the 1 cent coin, general practice throughout the county is to round up or down any prices that would result in purchases or change returned ending in 1 or 3 cents; for example, a merchant may keep the extra 1 cent if your change due is 3.31, or may return 2.54 if the amount due is 2.53 (merchants and vendors have through the years generally adapted pricing so this is a rare occurrence). Please don't be offended if the cashier short changes you by a cent.

Baker Park has a national Goods & Services Tax (GST) on a wide array of products and services; it is a tiered structure based upon the retail cost, meaning you will pay a lower tax rate on cheaper items (less than $20), and a higher rate on those that are more expensive (over $150). Visitors can apply for a refund of the Federal government share of GST (generally about 75% of the collected tax) by filling out a form with proof of purchase via sales receipts; ask at customs upon your departure for Form 85. In many cases at retail level, GST is incorporated into the price; for example an item that has a retail price of $1.80 is probably GST inclusive ($1.75 with a .05 tax) so this would not be refundable. A sales receipt will normally reflect what's built in and what's charged separately.

Cash tips or added gratuities for service are not expected, but are not uncommon. Generally, workers in hospitality and tourism are more accustomed to receiving small tips, but the level of service you receive is not affected if you choose not to do so. Workers at all levels of employment are paid under a scheme known as CLAWS (Classified Labor and Wage Scale) which ensures that citizens are compensated fairly and reasonably equal to their peers based on years of work and experience.

Let's Gooooo!!
Visitors to Belle Haven have a wide variety of activities to choose from; free tours of Baker Park's national capitol building, Parliament House, are available 7 days a week when Parliament is in session and 5 days a week during recesses, excepting certain holidays; call ahead to find out the hours as well as restricted times & dates. Other major government buildings open for public tours include Treasury House and St John's Palace, the residence of the Head of State of the Commonwealth. (Note--all three require no admission fee)

The Commonwealth State Museum is the country's most visited museum site; it's actually three museums in one—The State Museum, which covers history and the development of the Commonwealth; the Museum of Commerce & Industry, which tells the story of Baker International, the Northern States Company and the other business entities that were key to the growth and stability; and the Museum of Science & Culture, geared to a younger audience, with plenty of interactive displays and multimedia presentations.
The National Gallery of Art, behind Parliament House and next door to the High Tribunal of the Commonwealth/Ministry of State for Justice Building, showcases a variety of domestic and classic styles of artistic works.

Belle Haven City, as the main business district is officially called, also has many other attractions; Historic Charter House was the nation's first legislative building and later served as the Baker Park State and the Belle Haven City building; City Hall replaced its last incarnation, a stunning architectural landmark.
Company House Landing along the riverfront is the site where early settlers disembarked and were enrolled in the population ledgers and is also the location for "zero point", the plate all official distances within the Commonwealth are measured from; the Commonwealth Stock Exchange also is open for public tours, and the Baker International Tower--at 72 floors, it's the tallest skyscraper in the nation--has an observation deck and small exhibit area where the lives of the namesake family are presented. The Museum of Modern Art & Design is nearby and St Mark's Church, the second oldest congregation in the Commonwealth is a few blocks over.

Shopping more your thing? Every major retail chain has a flagship store in the city, located in clusters in three areas: on First Street from Victoria Street west to Market; Second Street from Westminster to Mercantile; and Third Street from Exchange to Commerce.

The Metro region has 2 zoos open to the public, they generally operate on opposing schedules to one another; on the South Bank of the Belle Haven River is the Keller Aquarium open year round; and there is plenty of green space to enjoy.

BBP National Stadium (Final, Semi Finals A & B, Quarterfinal D)
Image
(capacity 74,000)

The stadium is a state of the art facility in every respect; built ahead of World Cup 84, it has become one of the busiest venues in the nation.
Three tiers of seating, as well as two levels of executive & club level seating, allow the stadium to be used in several different configurations. Victoria & Albert SC call the 17,000 seat field level area their home after leaving their famous Rosenau ground, and the stadium has hosted two World Cup 3rd Place Matches. the AOCAF 65 Final, two NSCF Championship games, the AOCL Final, as well as numerous domestic contests in several sports and will be the site of the 15th IFCF Champions League Final.
The Bank of Baker Park is the name sponsor, the nation's fourth largest financial company having been a major partner of the Football Association of the Commonwealth for over 60 years.

Sportsmen's Park (3rd Place Playoff, Quarterfinal B, Group E: MD1 2v5, MD2 5v3. MD3 4v5, MD4 1v4, MD5 5v1)
Image
(capacity 39,000)

The capital's second stadium and the oldest in the country is also its most visited & recognizable to even the slightly casual Baker Park sports fan. Most of the famous "firsts" in sport history occurred at the venue over the years since it was completed in 1921; its name comes from the former Deauville Sportsmen's Club—charter members of the FAC in 1901.

Further afield, the other cities hosting matches all have a myriad of options for the visitor; except for a couple of venues, all matches will take place in the state capitals of our nation, so museums, zoos, and other activities for the entire family are widely available. The Lake District in northeast Endover is a popular summer getaway for families (approx. 1 hr 40 min from Endborough by rail), and in the other corner is The Old North, formerly a large holding of the Northern States Company that was heavily cleared of its forests for use in building the railways, but has been reclaimed by conservation and is becoming a popular resort area as an alternative to the Lakes (approx. 2hr 10 min from Oceana by rail).
Additionally the southern part of the country has its' own attractions; although not a substitute for warm water beaches, the villages and getaways along the coast in both directions from Newport are popular with boaters, fishermen and vacationers. The higher elevations in the southeastern corner of the Commonwealth have become the center of the nascent winter resort industry in areas formerly used for deep mining of coal, iron ore and bauxite, as well as gas and oil drilling.

West/Southwest—Oceana, Ezriquay and Newport
While Atlantian Oceania has its "Glorious Southwest", Baker Park's southwestern corner, the State of Ezra, has much to offer and it has been an active hotbed of the sport from the earliest years of the Commonwealth.

Ezriquay is the country's fourth largest city, situated on a peninsula formed by the last major bend in the Belle Haven River, it's often referred to as "The Thumb". Much more industrialized than the three cities that have a larger population, it has more blue-collar feel to it.

The Museum of Industry highlights the development of the manufacturing and innovation in the Commonwealth; the Ezriquay Zoological Gardens in University Park house an excellent collection of species from both the animal and plant kingdoms; a ferry trip around "the Thumb" to Hampton Borough or up the Stillwater to Middletown is a way to see a bit more of the area. There is a bustling food & drink district that sits between the University of Ezriquay and the Queen Victoria Stadium that has something on offer for every fan.

Travel to and from the nation's 4th largest city is probably as convenient as any city in Baker Park; The Josiah Peter Moore—Ezriquay International Airport, across the river in Collinsville is short trip from downtown via taxi, bus or train. Inter-city rail links Belle Haven via Hamilton and joins the Trunk Line running north & south to Oceana and Newport, via Southend.

Queen Victoria Stadium
(Round of 16, Group A: MD1 2v5, MD2 5v3, MD4 2v3, MD5 5v1)
Image
(capacity 37,475)

The “Queen” got a royal makeover ahead of WC84 despite the off and on debate about whether a new stadium should replace it on a different part of the city. Also hosted matches in AOCAF 58 & 65, World Cup 90 and Women's World Cup 17.

Newport is the country's major seaport and also home to the Naval Service of the Commonwealth Fleet Command, but it also has plenty of other things to see and do. It was the home of the Western & Southern Company, another BI rival in the early years and is a leader in transport and shipping of both imports and exports. It is accessible by air via Ezriquay's airport (45 minutes by train/1 hour by car).

A visit to the Commonwealth Naval Officers Academy, on the west bank of the river across from the city is an option for an off day activity, and definitely don't miss the chance to take a tour of the NSC's oldest active commissioned ship, NSC City of Belle Haven, a turn of the century battleship that saw action in two wars. Also the Commonwealth Aquarium is a great trip for all ages. The stadium is a bit of a walk from the “New Strip”, the place for a pre-match drink or bite to eat (the original 'Strip' is several blocks south, and is probably not as appropriate for family outings, if you get our drift—this is a Navy/merchant shipping town remember) so most establishments give you plenty of warning when there are 30 minutes prior to kickoff by the ringing of a bell, or some other device.

Newport City Stadium (Round of 16, Group A: MD1 3v4, MD3, 3v1, MD4 1v4/ Group F: MD5 4v2)
Image
(capacity 32,000)

The stadium is home to the Newport City FC and the Naval Academy's football team and has been a frequent host to the NT in recent years. An extensive rebuild prior to WC84 increased the seating to current capacity which has resulted in many international matches being played here.

Oceana is the capital of Osheana, and the nation's third largest city. It has always had a reputation as being the "anti-Belle Haven", due to its more conservative population; it was the home base of the former Northern States Company, who were the second largest business venture in the country. Today it is a sprawling metropolis and headquarters to several major corporations.

The State Legislative Building is close by to Collins Park, and there are several museums and attractions nearby. There is a amusement park, LeSourdesville Lake, approximately 15 miles south of downtown (24-28 mins by car), or you could head out to Brecon Borough to see the Oceana Ship Canal, which connects the area to the Belle Haven River via the Stillwater River.

There is no defined district where pubs, restaurants, bars and other pre-match hangouts are clustered, at least not in the central city; the area around the Legislature and the civic center has a few options for daytime matches, mostly chain restaurants aimed at the work crowd and tourists.
Oceana International Airport receives direct flights from many of the major cities to the west of the Commonwealth in AO, and was one of the two major departure points (along with aforementioned EIA) for the relief efforts during the Banija drought crisis.

(capacity 47,000)

There was a good reason why the stadium in Oceana was rarely used for NT matches in the pre-NS era: it was considered shabby and substandard. It is the opposite of that now which is why it has seen double the number of internationals played here in mixed gender competition and is always on the short list of host sites for tournaments. It has developed into one of the National Team's strongholds among regular venues.

Springfield/Salisbury/Lima/Newmarket
The terms "Baker Park" and "Commonwealth" are generally interchangeable when talking about the nation, but among the citizenry, Baker Park, or BP ('beep'), is usually more used when discussing the State of Baker Park, the Commonwealth's largest and most populous political division.

Salisbury has been growing rapidly over the last 25 years since CARTA extended the Red Line north from Hempstead Park in Belle Haven; the transformation into a satellite commuter town has included an increasing suburban corridor that is blurring the lines between “Metro” Belle Haven and Salisbury. There aren't a ton of things to see or do in Salisbury, but the fact the commuter trains run from downtown BH to within walking distance of the stadium means you can stay in the capital and make the quick trip on match day.

Salisbury City Stadium (Round of 16, Group E: MD1 3v4, MD2 1v2, MD3 3v1, MD4 2v3, MD5 4v2)
Image
(capacity 25,900)

The town's central location means that the stadium hosts many prominent sporting events as a neutral site. Take the Red Line, access from Belle Haven's Midtown Transit Center (approximate trip is 35 minutes.) to the Salisbury Civic Center (adjacent to the stadium)

Springfield would probably not be the bustling city of over 300,000 if a simple decision had not been made to route one of the east-west cross country railway lines through it instead of further south.
The city—BP's 8th largest--is the nation's agricultural hub, as the food processors & packagers, the farm commodity markets, the agri-business companies are all based here in the heart of "farm country".

The Baker Park State Fair began here in 1919 and has grown through the years to become the de facto national Agricultural Fair of the Commonwealth.
Unfortunately for the out of town visitor, the Fair doesn't happen until later in the year, but there is usually something taking place at the Fairgrounds across the road. There is also a museum dedicated to the various elements of the agricultural sector in Baker Park, located downtown near the A-75/A-49 expressway junction.

Unfortunately for the sports fan, there's nothing in the way of retail areas near the fairgrounds itself; your best option is to park at the fairgrounds and take the matchday shuttle downtown for a drink or two, then back the stadium, or park downtown and avail yourself of the shuttle.

(capacity 44,000)

Constructed in the 1970's to replace the aging wooden grandstand at the Fairgrounds, it hosts many sporting events and concerts year round. A second expansion ahead of World Cup 84 gave the stadium nearly double its original capacity. One of the most well regarded venues in the nation by spectators.

Newmarket was the administrative center of western Baker Park State in addition to being a major crossroads for agricultural movement inland. Politics kept the so called “Corn Train” railway from being run across the center of the state instead of along a more northerly route that shifted food production & processing to Springfield.

There is a re-created settlement camp from the early days of the country before it gained self-government at the Wagnerfield Reserve State Park, approximately 20 minutes southeast of the city. There is also the City Museum downtown, in the former Newmarket High Court building, and the Market Hall itself, which still operates 7 days a week. The stadium is shoehorned into the same general area (you'll be surprised at how compact the 'downtown' area actually is) and a labyrinth of alleys, short streets, half-blocks, and pedestrian walkways surrounds it, with numerous shops, stands, and of course places to get refreshment.

The stadium was completed in 1952 and is named for Prince William of Oldenburg, the second Prince Regent of the Commonwealth; he succeeded his father, Prince Frederick in 1912 and served until his death at the age of 66 in 1947.

Lima is the the country's 13th largest city & has long called itself the Capital of the North so there has always a bit of pioneer spirit among citizens. An important center for several major industries (forestry/paper products, petroleum, chemicals), the state established its first branch of the University of Baker Park here in 1919.

The home of Northern Baker Park State University's fottball team, the stadium's soccer history has seen it host the finals of the Women's FAC Cup and the men's National League Cup and the BP Open Cup.

Northeast/Southeast
Endborough is the Commonwealth's Second City, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is the state capital of Endover and the home of the nation's top institution of higher education, the University of Endover.

Places to visit include the House of Representatives Building; Old City Hall; the Schroeder Collection of Wildlife Art at the State Museum, and ferry rides along the White & Belle Haven Rivers. McKenna Street is the major downtown nightlife area in the city, sure to be packed on match days.

Endborough Airport is a bit out of the way when compared to other cities in Baker Park, but it is easy to get to & from, capable of handling the largest passenger & cargo jets and high volume air traffic.

Completed in 1926 as a home for the Endborough Gold Sox baseball team. In 1975, the Endborough Eagles professional football team entered into an agreement to help finance an expansion that nearly doubled the capacity and another investment from the Endborough RFC to share the stadium as a tenant brought about further improvements.

Coolville and Shirley are the other two host cities, and the strong regional rivalry between them tends to color all discussion involving most things sporting.

Coolville is the capital of Midalia state and the fifth largest city in Baker Park. The citizens have a bit of an identity crisis, with the other main towns in the state (St Warren & Kellerville) and their down-river neighbors Shirley all having less than positive feelings for them. One of the two major cities (Lima being the other) in the Chemical and synthetic products industry. Can be reached by air via Shirley's airport (45 minutes via train/1 hr 10 mins by car).

Activities away from the game include tours of the State Senate Building; the Midalia Exhibition Center, a mass appeal museum; or a trip out of the city to the east, where the mountains that hug the entire southeastern border of the nation provide a backdrop to natural beauty.
Belvedere Course is a short 15 minute train ride south of the city, and hosts thoroughbred horse racing, as well steeplechase in the fall, 5 days a week (Monday/Tuesday excluded). Home to the second leg of the Commonwealth's Triple Crown, the Victoria Plate (the others being the Commonwealth Derby and the Prince Regent Stakes), first post is always at 1:27 pm.
Coolville's downtown business area is approximately a 10-12 minute walk south of Carrollton, although there are a few smallish pubs near the stadium.

(capacity 33,000)

The home of Coolville United FC will host a major tourney for the fourth time since the last of its four stands were enlarged (WC84 & 90, AOCAF 65).

Shirley is the capital and largest city of St Leon and sixth largest in the country. It was the third of the primary hubs of the Baker International (after Belle Haven and Endborough) established by the Baker family. It is the headquarters of the Commonwealth Mining Corporation, whose office tower is known as "Black Rock", the second tallest building in the Commonwealth at 67 stories with a breathtaking view from the Observation Deck. Naturally that makes Shirley the center of the oil, coal and gas industry in this country.

Another state capital, another government building, the extravagant House of Delegates is a lesson in excessive use of gold leaf (there is more on the dome of this building than in the entirety of Parliament House in BH!) throughout the building.

There is also the Museum of Mining east of downtown, near the University of St Leon; take a tour of an abandoned mine in nearby Shirley Heights; Mountain Circus, a modern amusement park is approximately 25 minutes southeast of the city in McIlroy Borough (have no fear, it's not a real circus!), and a ride on the elevated tramway through the city is a must.

Both cities share the Shirley International Airport, approximately 20 miles northeast of the city. There is fast transportation to and from both cities via rail and expressway.

The transition from historic President's Park to the CONAGCO has gone smoother than expected for the tenants that call it home. Fans have been nearly unanimous in their praise, teams are happier and of course the extra gate revenue is particularly welcome.
Located near the campus of the University of St Leon, the stadium is simply one of the best places to watch an event at in person.

Alton is the capital of Lynchana, the Commonwealth's smallest state. It was one of the 6 towns that reached City Corporation status two years ago by reaching 150,000 residents. It has one of the nation's most picturesque surroundings with the mountains forming a semi-circle. The area to the south and southwest is being transformed from mining into a growing winter sports resort.

The stadium has played host to matches in the Women's World Cup, Baker Park Open Cup and the Under 18 World Cup.

Food
Cuisine is not a word that conjures up thoughts of innovative technique, imaginative flavor combinations and visually stunning dishes in the Commonwealth. There isn't what you would call a native national dish or particular characteristic of taste combinations.

That's not to say that people don't eat well in this country, nor do they eat a particularly unhealthy diet; in fact, if you wanted to pinpoint one thing that differentiates Baker Park at the dining table, it's the idea of less is more. Go to a grocery store anywhere in the Commonwealth and browse the aisles where pre-packaged food is displayed—pick an item or two and flip over to the ingredient list; the thing that will strike you is probably the absence of many commonly used preservatives that commercial processors use throughout the world. There are no long words starting with mono-, dextro-, no gums or acids. No added coloring or flavors.
Because of the size of the country, it's not necessary for food to have a long shelf life, except in circumstances where you're dealing in staple items. We eat more of what people call 'raw food' than many industrialized nations, starting with cereals & grains. We grow enough wheat to provide the equivalent of an 80 pound sack to every man, woman & child annually, and about a similar amount of rye & barley combined.

The whole kernels are often substituted where rice would be used in a dish (we import all of the rice used in this country, as it is one of the few crops that has never been successfully grown on a large scale here), so a rye or wheat berry pilaf is a ubiquitous presence on menus and at family meals. Corn & oats are also grown, although a greater percentage of annual yield goes to feed livestock than the others.
Obviously, bread is also an important element of the Baker Park diet; naval ships at sea bake bread fresh every day for their crews, and local, family-run bakeries are not yet a thing of the past here; it can be a lucrative profession to enter into, especially if combined with the ubiquitous BP establishment, the luncheonette.

Luncheonettes thrive across the nation, based on a simple theory that offering a simple menu of food that can be purchased and eaten on the go is more profitable than a large menu that has to be prepared on demand. They are generally cafeteria style service—you move along in a line, choosing from the assortment of items on offer, pay and away you go. Typically there will be 2-3 choices of cold salads, soups, sandwiches or hot food (casserole, meat pie, etc) and desserts, with a rotating selection daily.

Because traditional food is basic, imported cuisines are extremely popular as dine-in experiences; East Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, African and the usual variety of Italian, Greek, French, Spanish, and Caribbean restaurants can be found everywhere (and one reason why the government subsidizes the import of rice).

The Dantopia men's national football team represents Dantopia in international football. The team's inaugural appearance in the 2023 South Pacific Cup saw the Lions winning the competition, defeating Evinea in the final 2-1.

Image
Lion City Arena, the national team's
stadium
Football is the most popular sport in Dantopia, and clubs in the country number in the tens of thousands, organised into hundreds of leagues. The Dantopian Football Association (DFA) governs football in Dantopia, and Dantopia also hosts one of the South Pacific’s most popular and richest footballing leagues, the Dantopian Premier League (DPL), with a number of hugely rich and successful clubs taking part in the league.

Fans of the Dantopian national team are fiercely supportive, but also extremely respectful, noted for helping clean up stadiums after the end of football games. Just as this behaviour was observed in Trolleborg, where the 2023 South Pacific Cup was hosted, it is expected this will also be the case in the Commonwealth of Baker Park, during the Baptism of Fire tournament. At home, clubs with intense rivalries contest derbies in which fan behaviour can sometimes unfortunately resort to a modest level of violence and crime. However, these derby rivalries rarely ever result in widespread or serious incidents.

Dantopia is home to many state of the art football stadiums, with the national team’s home stadium – The Lion City Arena – located in the nation’s capital, being the largest, with a capacity of 80,000. The stadium was recently renovated to increase the capacity from its original 60,000. The Lion City Arena also acts as a neutral venue for cup finals in Dantopia.

Team Image
Crest

The crest of the Dantopian national team features a blue lion's face on a red and white shield. The lion is the national animal of Dantopia and is frequently used in Dantopian imagery and state symbols.

Colours

Dantopia's traditional home colours are a navy shirt with white shorts and white socks. Traditionally the away strip is a reverse of the home; a white shirt with navy shorts and navy socks. A third uniform has been worn on occasion in recent years to prevent a clash in the event Dantopia play another team who play in blue and white, with this strip being an all red ensemble. The three uniforms therefore showcase the three colours of the Dantopian flag, red, white and blue.

Coaching staff
Harold Northgate (Dantopian National Team, Dantopia)

Profile: 52y.o, 6'0'' (183cm)

Description: A Former Dantopian National Team Player, Northgate was a Centre Back by trade. Having held a number of managerial positions at smaller top tier clubs, Northgate took on the head coaching role of the under-21 National Team for a spell before being promoted to the First Team. Prior to the 2023 South Pacific Cup victory, Northgate was much maligned by the Dantopian press for his seeming lack of tactical nous in big games. However, Northgate is perhaps actually unfairly characterised by this, and has shown some tactical flexibility at times. Following his remarkable cup final win against Evinea, Northgate was hailed a national hero by the very journalists who had slated him previously. Northgate therefore enjoys a glowing reputation within Dantopian footballing circles today. He has also almost single-handedly made the waistcoat fashionable again. Most importantly however has been Northgate's ability to bring a united mindset to the Dantopian dressing room. The players clearly respect him and enjoy playing for him, and he has brought the best out of players like Jeffrey Danchevy, Gary McGoldrick and Lewis Shank.

Preferred Formations:
4-3-3 (single holding midfielder, inverted fullbacks, wide forwards)
3-5-2 (wing backs, single holding midfielder, one wide forward and one target man)
4-2-3-1 (double pivot in midfield, free roaming number 10, wide fullbacks, inverted wingers)

Team Tactics
Style Mod: +2.5

Style of Play:
Possession Based (the team normally average around 60%, or higher against weaker teams)

Inverted Full Backs (pack the midfield with passing options, keep the inside forwards wider, stretching the opponent's defence)

Set Piece Specialists (Excellent at set pieces all around, with strong headers of the ball, intricate corner and indirect free kick plays, and a number of players who can score easily from direct free kicks and penalties)

Sweeper Keeper (Goalkeeper comfortable in possession, acts as an auxiliary centre back when the team is in possession of the ball, and rushes off his line when appropriate to meet balls over the top or crosses into the box)

High Defensive Line (As a result of a possession based style and sweeper keeper, the defensive line is relatively high, squeezing opposition forwards of space between the defence and midfield)

Low Crosses and Cut Backs (chance creation is mostly created by the full backs and wingers who attempt driven crosses or cut backs for players inside - or making late runs into - the box)

Lobbed Through Balls (when playing on the counter attack, the team will often attempt lobbed through balls to the forwards who generally have the pace to beat the opposition defenders)

The South Americanastanian National Football Team's managers are made up of the best and brightest football minds (The Amerikanastaner half of) South Americanastan has to offer. After winning the National Derby between the country's two opposing FAs, the "national" side composed of almost entirely one ethnicity is managed by the capable mind of...

...Thys Smuts, a newcomer to managing on the national stage, but a grizzled veteran of domestic soccer, leading Fralaksai Rangers AFC to a victory in The Soccer League Cup 4 times in his 17 year long tenure as their manager. Selected to manage the SANFA side after the ethnic split in the Americanastanian Football Association, he lead the Amerikanastaner FA team to victory over the SASC team in the National Derby. He's helped by...

...His right hand man and protege, Adam Beaumont, acts as his assistant manager and chief advisor on football-related decisions. Beaumont is manager of Second League side Western Wanderers AC, having recently guided the former top-flight team to promotion to the second tier for the first time since 2004. With a lot to prove and even more to lose, Beaumont's hopes of moving to a top flight side in the near future rest on the national team's performance, and that can't happen without good goalkeeping, guided by the heavy hand of...

Goalkeeping Coach Pieter Klerk is a recently retired star goalkeeper, spending all of his 15-year football career with the Smuts-managed Fralaksai Rangers AFC, and compiling one of the best track records in the TSL guarding the net, while also possessing the TSL record for goals by a goalkeeper (4). He joins the team as the goalkeeping coach of TSL side Fort Elizabeth FC, coaching goalkeeper Barke Veldskoen to Freshman of the Year honors. And speak of the devil...

TACTICAL OVERVIEW

- DEFENSE is the name of the Americanastanian game. Sporting an intimidating backline able to smother opposing strikers, low scores are a trademark of Americanstanian football, especially that played by the Amerikanastaners.

- LAAGVOETBALL is what the Amerikanastaners call it, literally "Low Football", simplifying the beautiful game down to three phases: "Attack", "Defense", and "Transition". The side moves as unit in all three, smothering the opponent with all 10 outfield players in defense, rapidly pushing up the field in transition, and hammering the penalty box and goalkeeper with crosses and shots on target in attack, hoping to either win a set piece or force one into the net.

- Winning SET PIECES is a crucial part of the South Americanastanian play in the attacking third, with free kicks and corners presenting major scoring opportunities to the team. The value of being able to hammer home free kicks and corners is not lost on the team, allowing them to make up for open-field weaknesses.

- The KEEPER is expected to be the beginning of attack buildup when the team is in possession inside the defensive third, dishing the ball out to one of the widebacks to begin a push up the flanks.

- GRIT is the team's most valuable asset. Simply put, they're a pain in the ass to play. Whether they're up or down 7, they'll play you just as hard as if it was tied.

- The 4-4-2 is the team's formation of choice, good for counter attacking and defending. When counterattacking, one striker will slot behind another, creating a 4-4-1-1 style alignment, allowing the team to rapidly advance the ball up the pitch through a series of passes up the center "chain", culminating in a through ball to the lead man.

THE GROUNDS

Image

The PRETORUSBURG NATIONAL GROUNDS, affectionately known as "The Pret" is the home stadium of the South Americanastan National Football Team. Built in 1962, The Pret was one of the first major football stadiums to be built in South Americanastan intially seated 23,000, but after the construction of the Western (AKA Hillside) Terrace in 1984, it's capacity increased to 33,000. Since 1973, it has served as the home ground for Fralaksai Rangers FC, along with hosting many concerts and the TSL All-Star game.

The stadium is located in the suburbs of Pretorusburg, with the Eastern side of the stadium sporting a scenic view of Mount Vriberg and the communities that dot its slopes. The northern and southern ends of the field constitute the supporter's sections, given a wide berth from the field the track surrounding the field. The Hillside Terrace contains the press box and is the newest of the four grandstands.

Фудбалска репрезентација на Јосифово - Фудбалска репрезентација Јосифова

Intro to Josifovo:

Josifovo(Pronunciation: Yo-see-fo-vo) is a small nation situated in a large landmass called Slovj somewhere really far away, yet closest to Esportiva. It is bordered by the nations of Juzun to its north, Kombetara to its west and Kicuvo to the east while to the south it has access to the Beskrajno Sea. 3 million people have been pitied to call this country their home, despite its enjoyable mediterranean climate to the south slowly changing to a colder and more prone to seasonal swings continental climate further north, suitable for human habitation.

As previously stated, 3 million people have been pitied to call this advancing hellscape their home, as it has been the crossroads of various bigger and stronger empires throught history, which saw the Josifski population constantly subjugated under a bigger nation whether through influence or throught occupation. This has resulted in a multiethnic and multireligious entity which has constant ethnic strife trying to balance the populations within the nation. The majority nonetheless are the Orthodox Josifski consisting of 70% of the population, followed by large minorities of Orthodox Kicuvski, Catholic Kombetare and Muslim Juzunski in the borderline regions. The official language is Josifski, though not a proper language in its own right, it is a dialectal continuum mostly resembling the languages of Serbo-Croatian, Macedonian and various Torlakian dialects. There are two accepted varieties of Josifski used in education nation-wide, the Samuilovo Dialect, resembling Macedonian and the Bijelica Dialect, more so resembling the Shtokavian Variety of Serbo-Croatian.

Today the nation is rapidly developing following the devastating ethnically-based South Slovj war of the 90's which saw Josifovo side up with Kicuvo against the nations of Kombetara and Juzun. The war resulted in the complete destruction of many cities and villages in all countries while it completely reshaped the ethnic makeup of an even more murky and multiethnic general area. Josifovo is currently undergoing massive industrial advancement especially in the oil and automotive industries, while it is also letting go of its accursed socialist past.

The capital of Josifovo is Bijelica, a coastal gem of rare beauty, while its largest city is the older capital, expertly-designed Samuilovo. Those two are the only major cities of the nation. The urban landscape is led by brutalist architecture in pretty much every major city and town, while there are semblances of the older and more ethnic, cultural architecture in the smaller towns and villages. Most major cities and towns are also filled with several industrial warehouses and factories, remnants of the socialist regime that are still being used to this day, although they are getting modernised.

Culturally, because the nation is a big melting pot, you can find an assortment of very differing artforms, cuisines and even customs depending on where in the country you are. The Josifski-majority regions are well-known for their orthodox artstyle and beautiful churches, renown all over Slovj. The Kicuvski-majority regions are well-known for their culinary traditions, with many foods that are staple all over the region, although there's disputes between every country on whether those foods are Kicuvski, Josifski, Kombetare, Juzunski or from elsewhere. Meanwhile the Kombetare are known for their hospitality and their roughness. While lastly, the Juzunski are known for the Islamic architecture and mathematical aptitude which has led to great engineering feats wherever they happen to be the majority. Despite the internal strife between those populations, harmony and unity can sometimes be reached and in more recent day that is exactly what has been happening all over the nation in its struggle for peace and prosperity in an ever-growing world.

Football in Josifovo:

Football's entry into Josifovo came in the mid-1900's by a population of people from the very far reaches of the multiverse, potentially beyond Esportiva itself. They were speaking in a language intelligible to Bijelica dialect and thus the sport was spread from there.

Football was initially popular among workers in the royal docks of Bijelica and other factory workers. Eventually the sport came to be a coping mechanism for the players during the harsh socialist regime that followed the monarchy but was also used as a means to "educate" the locals about values regarding national identity as well as socialist values that were BLATANTLY pro-regime. Following the Great South Slovj war of the 1990's and the country's entry into a democracy, football has solidified its place as the most popular sport in the country, with thousands of viewers in every single league game.

Professional football only became a thing around the 1950's, as such due to the country's relative isolationism beyond its direct neighbors in Slovj, football has not managed to grow and become as organised as other places in the multiverse. However there's a lot of fans either politically-inclined or ethnically-inclined to follow their favorite teams. This results in violence on the pitches and outside. In multiple places around the country there's fan graffiti and murals in different areas that show their love and support for their teams and usually mark up the areas of cities and towns by team as well as a border registration would.

As for the football itself, Josifski footballers are not exactly known for their talent but more so for their strength and their ability to follow out the commands of the coach. As such, being a smart coach with strong strategies and correct utilisation of the players has always been the way to go. Smartness usually translated to...

Tactics:

As stated previously, Josifski players are not talented whatsoever. Using their strength and superior height, they tend to win aerial duels and as such crosses are a form of play commonly seen in Josifovo.

The most common lineup is a 4-4-2, with 2 rocking and impossible defenders on the heart of the defence and two side defenders which usually are slightly "faster" than strong. In the midfield, usually there's a central midfielder that supplies to the sides and a central attacking midfielder that supplies crosses and through-balls on the attack, while the side midfielders try to carry the ball forward and then cross it to the two strikers up front. Midfielders are usually the more "unimposing" players but also tend to be the ones most talented with the ball on their feet, so Josifski midfielders tend to be technical. Up front, the two strikers usually form a partnership based on strength and clinical finishing. One tends to be a poacher, while the other tends to be more of a supply finisher than anything. If they get their chances, they have to do the job.

To be clear and so that it doesn't get missed out THE STYLE MODIFIER IS +1.

The Team:

The team itself was constructed in a way so that all people groups in Josifovo get an "equal" chance to represent the country. Or at least that was what the ФФЈ(FFJ) said, but due to COMPLICATIONS could not be finalised to the fullest extend? Crazy, right?

Naming conventions are complicated at first, Josifski names are usually ones resembling ethnic Macedonian or Serbian names, Kicuvski names are stricly Serbian names, Juzunski names follow Bosnian naming conventions while Kombetare names resemble Albanian names. Without further ado.

Players listed in italics to be given preferred choice should you RP my lineup before me.

Play style: Manager Akito Miura insists upon a fast-paced game in which Kamijiro attempts to overload wide areas to create space for crosses. This has worked well in the past for Miura, as his previous managerial experience involved working with two tall strikers (such as Hilario and Tuasalamony). Moreover, Miura also demands high levels pressing from his midfielders, nearly looking like Gegenpressing at times, but holding just short as to prevent through balls over the midfield line. The back line is nothing to sniff at either, as all three have multiple seasons of experience at the top domestic level in Kamijiro. Due to their forwards' height, this team will try to play for set pieces, especially in the wide areas. In this way, they try to control possession through forcing fouls and setting up patiently on the wings. The center midfielders are expected to run underlaps for the wide midfielders to create the overload.

Reprezentacja Czerwienska w Piłce Nożnej
(The Cherven Cities National Football Team)

National Overview: The Principality of the Cherven Cities is a small constitutional monarchy of 3.4 million people, located in Eastern Europe between Poland, Ukraine, and Slovakia. Although ethnically Polish, the Cherven Cities was part of the Soviet Union (as the Cherven People's Republic) from 1939 until the Soviet Collapse in 1987. During the period of Soviet occupation, the Cherven Cities developed a distinct identity apart from Polish (akin to IRL Moldovan-Romanian relations), and they have maintained their independence under the reinstated Buzhanski family of Polish nobles who were first appointed Princes of Cherven by Napoleon in 1809. The Cherven Cities is a highly developed nation, and has strengthened its economy significantly since the end of Communist rule. The people speak Chervenski, which is alternately classified as a distinct language or a dialect of Polish with strong Rusyn influence. They use both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, and drive on the right side of the road. The Cherven Cities is served by three international airports - Jan I Buzhanski International Airport located between the city of Chełm and the capital Czerwień, Ostrów International Airport outside of the largest city Przemyśl, and Danylo Romanovych International Airport near the second largest city, Lwów. Visitors may also travel by rail connections from Ukraine and Poland.

History of Cherven Football: The Cherven Cities Football Association (Związek Piłki Nożnej z Grodów Czerwieńskich or ZPN-GCZ) was founded 10 December 1987, shortly after the Cherven Cities declared independence from the Soviet Union. The ZPN-GCZ was intially formed from the eight football teams of the Cherven People's Sporting Association's Football League, and from 1988-1992 consisted of one league (I. Klasa) of eight teams. After 1993, the ZPN-GCZ has expanded dramatically with the introduction of new privately funded teams and arenas. Since 2004, the ZPN-GCZ consists of three leagues (Superklasa, I. Klasa, and II. Klasa) and 35 teams. In recent years the Superklasa has been defined by the three-way rivalry between F.C. Przemyśl, F.C. Chełm 'Zajączeka', and F.C. Orlęta Lwów.

Managerial Staff
Manager: Józef Sokolów (55) - Friend and sometimes rival of head coach Ignacy Smolak, Sokolów is a longtime manager for some of the ZPN-GCZ's most successful teams, including F.C. Przemyśl (2004-2009, 2015-2023) and F.C. Pogórzanie Sanok (2013-2014).

Head Coach: Ignacy Smolak (59) - The veteran coach of F.C. Orlęta Lwów, who has led his team to an impressive first place in two of the last four Superklasa seasons. A former footballer for F.C. Bełz (1985-1999).

Assistant Coach: Dominika Kamińska (39) - This former striker for F.C. Rzeszów (2007-2013) has made a name for herself as the coach for the successful F.C. Przemyśl's U-21 team since 2019.

Goalkeeper Coach: Erik Buzhanski (41) - Possibly the most controversial choice, Buzhanski is a member of the royal family (cousin to Prince Jan II) who briefly served as a goalkeeper for F.C. Czerwień (2004-2006). He is the co-owner and, since 2017, assistant coach of I. Klasa team F.C. Zamojski. He is widely believed to have been chosen for the national team because of his close relationship to the Heir Apparent, Pan Tadeusz Buzhanski.

(Note: Starters are marked with an asterisk (*))

#14 Józef Polzin RB, 28* - The second-in-command and defensive play-maker, Polzin is an aggressive and unrelenting defender who has played for both F.C. Stryj and F.C. Czerwień.

Midfielders

#11 Wojciech Ziemniak DM, 31* - The oldest and most experienced player on the team, Ziemniak is the captain of F.C. Pogórzanie Sanok. He serves as an anchor to the midfield, and has good instincts in supporting his more aggressive teammates on the left and right.

#15 Andrii Nowak RM, 25* - An explosive and aggressive midfielder, Nowak is another F.C. Pogórzanie Sanok player who has shown remarkable skill under Ziemniak's tutelage.

#18 Oleksandr Boyko AM, 29 - A reliable play-maker and seasoned AM, Boyko formerly captained F.C. Tarnica in I. Klasa before joining F.C. Bełz in 2020.

#20 Roman Józwiak DM, 22 - One of the least experienced players on the team, Józwiak was a solid, if unremarkable U21 player with F.C. Rzeszów who transferred to F.C. Stryj last year.

#24 Marek Grabowski LM 27* - A slim player with exceptional endurance, Grabowski has a reputation as unpredictable and often plays aggressively out of position. He is a former player for F.C. Orlęta Lwów, before joining F.C. Czerwień in 2021.

#25 Maksim Wolinski RM, 26 - The only player to serve in a foreign league, Wolinski is a dual-citizen of Cherven Cities and Ukraine who normally plays for FC Volyn Lutsk in the Ukrainian First League.

#29 Kacper Walentowicz AM, 30 * - F.C. Orlęta Lwów's captain and star player, Walentowich is a veteran player and a key element in Head Coach Ignacy Smolak's Superklasa success.

#31 Tymon Król LM, 23 - A quick youthful player with long blonde hair, Król is a former member of F.C. Czerwień's U21 team who was contracted by F.C. Princeps in the I. Klasa in 2021.

Forwards

#13 Konrad Gorecki CF, 25* - A agile forward from F.C. Pogórzanie Sanok, Gorecki has developed a reputation for aggressive dribbling and a willingness to press the attack.

#19 Joachim Jelenski CF, 27 - An German national of Polish descent, Jelenski has played for several I. Klasa and Superklasa teams since 2017, most recently F.C. Rzeszów, but only received Cherven citizenship in 2022.

#27 Lech Kędzierski CF, 29* - F.C. Chełm 'Zajączeka's most dynamic striker, Kędzierski is known for his speed and strong instincts. He was chosen by Manager Józef Sokolów to serve as the Captain of the World Cup team.

Stadium:

Stadion Lwów is the largest and most modern stadium in the Cherven Cities. It is located in the southern suburbs of Lwów, the second largest city in the Cherven Cities. The stadium is serviced by the local electric tram service, and is 30 minutes commute from Danylo Romanovych International Airport. The stadium seats 34,480 total, including 400 VIP box seats. It is semi-enclosed and has a grass field.

Formation
Reprezentacja Czerwienska w Piłce Nożnej plays a 4-4-2 Diamond formation. The 4-4-2 Diamond has been coach Ignacy Smolak's preferred formation for several years, and has led F.C. Orlęta Lwów to three of the last four Superklasa championships. Whether Smolak can lead the national team to victory using the same approach has yet to be tested, but he can lean heavily on several members of his former team, including F.C. Orlęta Lwów team captain and starting Attacking Midfielder Kacper Walentowicz (#29).

quick update:

EDIT 6/9
THREE days until the first cutoff, and I have posted all the info you never thought you needed to know about Baker Park.
The specific venue assignments ARE UP. See the venue description.
Three cities/venues have been added.
Groups A & C and D & F will be sharing several venues--where there is a designation of Day or Night, that means that two matches will played on the same matchday.

The first cutoff RP prompt is as follows: (reminder, this is optional--there is no bonus or penalty, use if you want)

Parkers are a very inquisitive and welcoming people to out of towners, so what would a supporter of your team tell a local as the first thing you'd want them to know about where you're from?

PLEASE Do Not hesitate to reach out to me for info about specifics you'd like to know. I am happy to help!

The Tapir: A delicacy

While in Burnham-on-Stove they banned all meat and animal products apparently to save the climate, here in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, we made our national animal, the tapir, a delicacy! Tapir meat is whiter than beef meat (more like veal meat) and taste like horse meat! The Jean-Jacquoise cuisine have a variety or tapir based meals which includes tapir steak, tapir ribs, tapir burger, tapir risotto, spaghetti with tapir meatballs, tapir parmentier (cottage pie) or more complex meals such as the tapir blanquette, tapir daube, tapir cassoulet and tapir paella.

In these meals, you simply replace the traditional meat by tapir meat. For example,in a tapir parmentier you replace the minced beef with minced tapir.

Tapir Parmentier (Cottage Pie or Shepherd Pie): The Parmentier is really simple. You put minced tapir (cooked with onions and carrots) at the bottom of your casserole, then mashed potatoes and grated cheese on top.

Tapir Blanquette: Normally made with veal, the tapir blanquette is a stew in which the tapir meat is slowly cooked with carrots, leek, celery and mushrooms in a creamy white bouillon (which sometimes includes white wine).

Tapir Daube: The Daube is a provençal beef stew. In this recipe we replace beef with tapir. The tapir meat is slowly cooked in a pot with onions, carrots, olives, tomato grout and red wine.

Tapir Cassoulet: The real cassoulet (also a kind of stew) is made with white beans, pork belly or shoulder, pork rind, slices of lamb or lamb shoulder, toulouse sausage and duck confit. For the tapir cassoulet, you can replace the pork and lamb with tapir meat and toulouse sausages with tapir sausages. You still keep duck confit. It's cooked in a pot with onions, garlic, carrots and celery.

Tapir Paella: Made with rice, seafoods, chicken and chorizo sausages. Simply replace chorizo sausages with tapir sausages.

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer gets ready for the Baptism of Fire

Salisbury, Baker Park - It's time for Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer's senior debut with the Baptism of Fire starting this week. The Tapirs are in group E with Manmeath, Imperatorskiy Rossiya, Bareder and United Hawkland and will play 3 games on 4 in Salisbury, a town north of Belle Haven. It's not sure what we can expect out of the Baptism of Fire as most teams are somehow unknown. United Hawkland is the one we know the most because we've seen them in the World Cup of Hockey and they're also in the same region as us. Here is Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer's schedule:

Matchday 1: vs Bareder @ Salisbury City Stadium
Matchday 2: vs United Hawkland @ Sportsmen's Park
Matchday 3: vs Manmeath @ Salisbury City Stadium
Matchday 4: vs Imperatorskiy Rossiya @ Salisbury City Stadium
Matchday 5: Visit at the Belle Haven zoo

Top Players in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer:

1. Nathan Fauteux-McGrath, DCM: Good to set an offensive attack or to defend when the opposite team have the ball. He's speedy, a great passer and tackler. Also have a good long range shot.

2. Serge Bleau-Bean, GK: Great reflexes and agility. Hard to beat on one on one.

3. Pierre-Antoine Bigeault-Généreux, CD: A great veteran on the team, at 34 yeals old, he's still one of the best. The best tackler on the team, he also have good positioning and is hard to beat.

4. Tristan Gibouleau-Beaudoin, CD: The young riser on the team, he's only 23 years old. He's Charlotte Gibouleau-Beaudoin's (currently at the Di Bradini Cup) older brother. Also one of the best tackler, very tall and can break corner kicks or headers. Good passer too.

5. Frédérique Goudreau-Luneau, S: The woman behind Dynamo de Gouin's recent success at the IFCF challengers cup (they lost at the 3rd qualifying round). At 23 years old, she's also a young riser. She can beat defenders one on one and she has a terrific shot.

10 JUNE 2023

Dantopian Lions arrive for Baptism of Fire

Image

Training has begun for Harold Northgate and his men in the Commonwealth of Baker Park, where this year's Baptism of Fire football tournament will be taking place. The Lions have arrived in the seaside city of Newport, where they will be based for the duration of the tournament. They are using local side Newport City FC's training facilities (pictured). This is Dantopia's first foray into the Baptism of Fire tournament and subsequent World Cup, which will be held in Graintfjall this year. The Baptism of Fire offers fledgling teams an excellent opportunity to experience international tournament football in anticipation for their first world cups. The national team, emboldened by their impressive displays at the South Pacific Cup, are taking their talents to the Commonwealth of Baker Park in the hopes they can showcase their expansive brand of football there too, and get the side match fit before the World Cup qualifiers later on.

Dantopia's national team, captained by talismanic striker Barry Paine, were perhaps to many the surprise winners of the South Pacific Cup, defeating fellow Baptism of Fire participants Evinea in a closely fought final, with the Lions edging the Evineans by two goals to one. Paine's 78th minute penalty was enough, not only to secure a Dantopian victory, but also to surpass Dwayne Mooney's national team scoring record of 53 goals. Paine now sits on top with 55 goals scored for his country, after also scoring in an international friendly against Corinthina prior to this tournament.

Paine has been an important leader for the national team over the years. He embodies many positive, typically Dantopian traits. His hard work, attention to detail, humility and steadfast stoicism have coupled well with his eye for goal, impressive vision and high pressing mentality on the pitch. This has earned him the reputation as one of the world's great strikers, and he continues to be a great ambassador for Dantopian football on the international stage. "I'm really proud to be here in the Commonwealth of Baker Park with the rest of the team..." offered Paine, "We're excited to see what awaits us in Group A, and we're really looking forward to showing the other nations participating what Dantopian football is all about." The Lions were drawn into Group A alongside The Cherven Cities, Kamijiro, The Spartan Dominion and Lionsguard.

Many Dantopian fans have also made the trip to the Commonwealth of Baker Park, and with both nations sharing many cultural similarities, it is expected the travelling fan base will find themselves quite at home in the Atlantian Oceania nation. With the nation's impressive travel infrastructure, match going fans will be able to follow the national team wherever they go during this tournament, and with Dantopia being based in Newport within the scenic State of Ezra, access to the capital Belle Haven, Hamilton, Oceana and Southend will be relatively easy. The hosts have made available a vast array of fan zones, bars, restaurants, clubs and casinos for travelling fans, and it is expected the travelling Dantopian fans will make frequent use of these establishments, along with enjoying the beaches, shopping districts and museums.

Other key players for opposing teams to watch out for are Michael Danchevy and Ezra Cunningham. Danchevy has just come off an impressive season, netting 30 goals in all competitions for the Dartford Devils, who finished 3rd this year in the Dantopian Premier League, just behind the Lion City Grenadiers and three-time in a row champions Dartford City. The Dartford Devils winger has been optimistic not only about his club's future under new manager Derek ten Hogg, but also on the national team's chances in the Baptism of Fire tournament. "I think it's fair to say we pride ourselves on our mental strength..." opined Danchevy. "We are tenacious, we never give up, and we are united as a team, especially after how we did in our previous tournament. We know what it takes to win something like this and we are determined to show everyone what we are capable of this time around as well."

As for the teenage sensation Ezra Cunningham, many elite football clubs will have sent scouts to the Baptism of Fire simply to witness this young man's emergence into an international superstar. Will his displays in this tournament be the catalyst to see him move to one of the world's truly elite clubs? After all, this is an honour he is certainly deserving of given his immense talent and impressive performances in the past few years. It seems not that long ago since he emerged as a bright-eyed 16 year old for the Billingham Blues. His decision to move away from Dantopia for his football development, to Seo Pyter FC in Uvalor, was seen as an odd move at first, but it has paid dividends. Now this young man has proven too good to stay at that club too.

All eyes then are on the Dantopian national team as they head into the Baptism of Fire. Can Harold Northgate's men continue their winning streak on the international stage? The fans are certainly behind them, here at home and also the travelling support in the Commonwealth of Baker Park. The team certainly cannot wait until they can kick-off in their first game of the tournament.

PROLOGUE - "THE POWDER KEG"
PRETORUSBURG NATIONAL GROUNDS, FRALAKSAI, SOUTH AMERICANASTAN
JANUARY 14TH, 2023
SOUTH AMERICANASTAN NATIONAL CUP - PRETORUSBURG AFC (2ND LEAGUE) vs KS GROENWALD (THE SOCCER LEAGUE)

89' - PRETORUSBURG AFC 1-1 KS GROENWALD

Mattys watched in awe as the Pretorusburg side moved the ball down the pitch, passing it from man to man in what to him was nothing short of an art form. Clad in his AFC scarf and dark blue boonie, both standard wear for any AFC fan, he still couldn't believe that he was watching his team play in the National Cup Final. Even though they were battling relegation to the League South, the team's miracle run towads silverware was a nice break from the heartbreak of their 2nd League season.

The AFC supporters section erupted in cheers as Pretorusburg threaded a through ball past the Groenwald backline, and the striker found himself dribbling towards the box with no one to beat but the keeper. Mattys usually would've been in the section himself, but was unable to pay the supporter's club dues and as such found himself shoved into one of the midfield seats. He had to admit, though, the view was preferable.

Suddenly, as the striker crossed the edge of the penalty box, a Groenwald centerback slid in from behind, and the striker fell face first into the turf, rolling towards the 6-yard box before coming to a halt. The supporter's section's tone changed from cheers to boos.

PHWEEEEEEEEE!

The (notably white) referee pointed to spot as the Pretorusburg AFC striker still lay in the dirt, clutching his knee. The KS Groenwald center back who had tackled him, meanwhile, found himself being shown a straight red, and walked off the field dejectedly. The same striker who taken the fall sprung up upon the referee's decision, and lined up to take the penalty. The referee's whistle blew. The striker went right, the keeper went left, and suddenly, Pretorusburg AFC was set on silverware.

The supporter's section went nuts, but just over the noise, Mattys heard a voice next to him mutter.

"Fucking Amerikanastaners are all the same, looking out for their own kind."

Mattys' head snapped to his right, revealing a Meskapa man with long hair, clad in all red, the colors of KS Groenwald.

"What the fuck did you just say?"

"You heard what I said, Yarpie!"

"Oh c'mere, Anglehead!"

Mattys dove at the man, plunging his shoulder into his chest, and the two rolled down into the next set of bleachers. Mattys, a former high school wrestler, eventually forced the man to the ground, and climbed on top of him. He grabbed the man by his hair.

"I'll skin you alive, tribie!"

With those words, a group of other Meskapas, also red-clad, tackled Mattys, forcing him off the man. He elbowed one of the them in the face, and kicked another in their manhood, but the men overpowered him. Above him, Mattys saw a group of men, also in dark blue boonies, join the fray, punching and elbowing the Meskapa men back. Mattys forced the man holding him down off of him and down two sets of bleachers.

As if the ethnic battle trumpet had sounded, the supporter's sections cleared out and the fight turned into an all-out brawl. As the grandstands devolved into anarchy, the final whistle blew, with Pretorusburg taking home their first National Cup title in history. The fans didn't seem to care, though. Mattys grabbed a bottle of Fortress Lager, smashing it over the head of a Meskapa, and retreated back into the crowd before they could make him pay for it.

Over the heads of his fellow Amerikanastaners, Mattys could make out the kevlar vests and helmets of riot police forcing their way between the two crowds, riot shields drawn, and pistols ready to do the same, their megaphones blared.

"THIS IS THE SOUTH AMERICANASTAN FEDERAL MILITIA, BACK AWAY FROM THE POLICE LINE. NOW!"

Baptism of Fire: Why Kamijiro Should Be Excited
Plus, What to Do With Leão

Authors: Marquis da Silva & Shota Mabuchi. Edited by Alexander Murray.
The Baptism of Fire is a unique contest, unlike most others of it's kind. The purpose is to allow nations new to the international stage to showcase themselves to the world, and from there compete in the World Cup or whichever regional tournaments they so desire. Due to this representation, however, it has become something of a "warm-up trophy," or something that some people discredit as being nothing more than something for small countries to compete for. After all, why compete in the Baptism of Fire if you can compete all the way at the pinnacle, the World Cup itself?

But, the main thing to remember about these kinds of tournaments is that every footballing nation has started from somewhere. Overnight successes are rarely a reality, and nations that wish to make the World Cup proper would be better off testing themselves in the Baptism of Fire first. The focus for Kamijiro is just that: preparing ourselves as a footballing nation to go up against the top-shelf talents of the world. With that being said, it would be unfair of us to say that success in this competition is unlikely. As a nation with several top footballers in it, including but not limited to: Leão, Ryuji Kaminari, Ankei Hilario and Jarius Dabineku, it is an almost expectation to at least compete to advance from the group or more, even with fellow footballing nation Dantopia in our group.

Furthermore, it is important also to remember that if this competition goes sideways for Kamijiro, there is still plenty of reason to be excited about the future of football for the Lightning. The reason: the team's current performance at the di Bradini u21 World Cup. Over in Banija, the u21s have just topped their group, winning all three of their matches and racking up an incredible +10 goal difference in those three. Their most recent match saw a hat-trick from Kyoko Ai, who, despite coming into the tournament as a backup to Emmanuel Davis, is now being tipped to be the star striker for the Kamijiroan senior squad as soon as next World Cup. Of course, Leão has stolen the show on multiple occasions, and the captain/vice captain duo of Niky Perkanta and Carmelo Valenzia have both had stellar performances to lead Kamijiro through to the Round of 16.

But what to do with Leão? Senior side manager Akiro Miura has mentioned on multiple times that Leão will join the senior side as soon as the Kamijiro u21s are done at the di Bradini cup, but what if that's not until after the Baptism of Fire and World Cup Qualifiers? The whole reason Miura included Leão as a potential candidate for this squad was because everybody was under the belief that Kamijiro's appearance in the di Bradini cup would be a shorter one, but the u21 squad have shown no indication that they will slow down any time soon. Miura has gone on record saying that Leão is expected to honor his commitment to the u21 squad, after all, he is a much larger part of that squad to begin with, but his services as a creative midfielder could be of use in the senior squad at just the tender age of 18.

This has left both Miura and u21 manager Alex Thomas in a pretty bad spot. Either Thomas releases Leão to come to the Baptism of Fire and World Cup Qualifiers or Thomas keeps Leão in Banija with the intention of going as high as possible in the cup. At the end of the day, the public's question is, "Can Kamijiro balance their youth players?" To which, the answer is yes. The real question that the Kamijiroans behind the scenes are asking is, "How soon do we pull up our golden generation?"

King Consort Kaminari Paixão I has also officially announced that should any of Kamijiro's teams bring home a trophy with them, that he will bring further funding into the international sporting programs. The Crown Prince, Kaminari Paixão Jr., has co-signed this statement, along with Queen Jiro Paixão. Of course, Crown Prince Kaminari Paixão Jr. would have plenty of reason to do so, being Kamijiro's best basketball talent, most likely ever. This is surely an incentive for every Kamijiroan footballing outfit to put their absolute best into bringing home a trophy as soon as possible.

Signing off from Hikarimachi, Marquis da Silva & Shota Mabuchi.

Tactics: Lionsguard focus on attack with a strong emphasis being on a relentless press and possession-based play. They like to move the ball out from the back and distribute the ball with pace. They play a high line with fast, ball playing defenders and inverted full backs that tuck inside when attacking. They only play with a single holding midfielder with two attacking midfielders either side of him. The object of their game is to have their fullbacks, two attacking midfielders and three forwards trap the opposition in their final quarter with constant pressing.

Red Wave off to a Hot Start in the Baptism of Fire

Celebrations throughout Kharakia were extremely high on the opening night of the Baptism of Fire, as the National Team had won their first match on the world stage! A 2-0 victory over Rincurd at the War Memorial Stadium meant that Kharakia were on top of the group, even if it was only for a little while. Things got off to a great start, as one of the Rincurdian players received a red card in just the 8th minute for DOGSO, which was promptly followed by a penalty goal from Fremíer Síer. Then, in the 36th minute, a sprained wrist from his hand colliding with the goalpost meant that the Rincurdian goalkeeper needed to come off, replaced by their second choice. Then, Ben Polas-Gonzalez and Ta'a Kan connected beautifully for an amazing volley goal from 10 yards, scored by Polas-Gonzalez. Fremíer Síer nearly doubled his tally, but unfortunately, his assister, Harry Albeno-Peña, was just offside.

The second match was pretty boring, a 0-0 draw against Germenia, also at the War Memorial Stadium, which saw the Red Wave look loads worse in terms of teamwork than their first match, the only real excitement happening in the 91st minute as Kebalo Magaiven nearly scored, but was disallowed due to offside.

We were able to secure an interview with the National Team's manager, Ryän Piersön-Mïval, and here's what was said:

Q: "Why do you think the team looked so out-of-sync in the second match?"
A: "I think it might have to do with my unnecessary change of plans. Instead of trying our usual 'hold onto possession' style, I tried to shift our focus into scoring a lot of goals. Clearly, it didn't work."

Q: "Are you now worried about Milk Island and South Americanastan having a game in hand over you?"
A: "To be frank, not really. We still have games against both of them, and I think that as long as we don't lose, we should still be perfectly fine to qualify for the knockout stages."

Q: "Is it pleasing to see United Hawkland, long-time rivals of Kharakia, lose both of their matches in the opening matchdays?"
A: "I never like to comment on others performances, especially when they don't concern me at all, considering that United Hawkland are not in Group D."

Q: "Do you have any comments about the transfer embargo on Hawklandian players the Kharakian FA has recently placed?"
A: "I don't think it's their right to be forcing players to stay out of Kharakia purely because of nationality. Sure, some Hawklandians may be bad, but not all of them. If you ask me, we should leave politics out of football and let people live here if they so please."

Q: "Do you think your team will have any major problems when it comes to winning the Baptism of Fire?"
A: "Yes. Obviously there will be roadblocks, in our group we have South Americanastan, and among other groups are teams such as Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer. It's never easy to win any competition, even if you are the best team, which we're not."

Q: "Fremíer Síer has now scored 14 in just 22 games for the National Team. Do you think this high goal-scoring ability will transfer onto the domestic scene?"
A: "For him, I'd hope so. However, it's not as easy in the domestic scene, especially in Kharakia, as you aren't surrounded by such great players like Ben Polas-Gonzalez and Ta'a Kan.

Q: "Does you being the Assistant Manager at Burners FC influence your decisions on who to start in the National Team?"
A: "No."
