About the Country

Sharktail, officially The Sultanate of Sharktail is a small island country in Mandalanusa with a population of 5,680,760. It lies north of the Southern Palm Islands and south of Samudera Darussalam in the Mandalanusa Mainland and the island nation of Eraman. Sharktail has a deep history and can trace its origins back to the ancient thallasocratic empire of Sripala that controlled modern-day Sharktail, Eraman, Pemecutan, and the Southern Palm Islands from the first to the seventh century.

Ever wonder about the color represented in the flag of Sharktail? Blue is the national color of Sharktail and is the main color in the national flag. The color blue symbolizes the sea as it plays a major part in Sharktailian culture. While red is the official royal color of Sharktail, unlike many other Mandalanusan country which usually uses yellow or gold as the color of royalty. It is represented as a red star in the national flag. Red attires will be worn by the royal family at official national ceremonies except for funeral ceremonies.

About the Cities

Image

1. Kota Lama

Kota Lama is one of the most well-known cities among local and international tourists. It's because of the city's involvement in international sports. Kota Lama is one of the most unique places in Sharktail and is the second most important city in Sharktail. If you think about Sharktail for a while, you will realize that despite being only the second largest city in Sharktail, Kota Lama which literally means the Old City is the city that is often used by the government and outsiders to organize events. Basically, Kota Lama was the capital of Sharktail in the past, the center of government before it was moved to the planned city of Kota Sultan, the present-day capital of Sharktail. All meetings and international gatherings including the Sultan's official residence were in Kota Lama. After the capital was transferred to Kota Sultan, Kota Lama was not left alone. Kota Lama was later developed as a tourist attraction. The only airport in Sharktail, Kota Lama International Airport has been upgraded to have more modern infrastructure facilities. Apart from that, the Kota Lama City Council is also intensifying its efforts to further develop the city. To keep the city as a tourist attraction, several overseas companies were offered to expand their markets here.

The main focus of development in Kota Lama since the move of the capital city was to upgrade and increase international sports facilities. Among the results that can be seen from this development plan was the construction of the Sharktail Football Complex as well as the Stadium Biru which was completed before the 86th World Cup qualifiers. Development continued with the demolition of old facilities and replacement with new and modern standards. The third project for the development of Kota Lama Sports City which has just been completed recently is the Sultan Ahmad Burhan Sports Complex, named after the father of the current sultan, Sultan Ahmad Ikram. The complex, which was built 15 years ago during the reign of Sultan Burhan, is now equipped with complete facilities such as volleyball halls, tennis courts, taekwondo halls, boxing halls, and swimming pools. The complex is also equipped with complete training facilities for athletes in athletics.

Stadium:
i. Stadium Kota Lama (31,000)
ii. Stadium Biru (60,000)

2. Kota Sultan

Kota Sultan is a planned city that was developed in line with the plan of the royal family to move the National Palace from Kota Lama to Kota Sultan in an effort to boost development in the area. The magnificent National Palace in the city center of Kota Sultan is a landmark of the majesty of the Sharktail royal family. After officially becoming the capital of Sharktail, all national affairs and international diplomatic meetings are concentrated here. Kota Sultan quickly becoming the new financial and economic hub of the country with a bustling commercial center that houses many shopping malls and restaurants that offer a wide range of local and international cuisine.

Apart from the National Palace, another major landmark in Kota Sultan is the Sultan Ahmad Burhan Mosque, a magnificent mosque with beautiful architecture located right next to the National Palace. The mosque is popular among local and international tourists and is one of the most photographed places in the country. If you are thinking of visiting Sharktail, don't miss the opportunity to walk around Kota Sultan. Perfect for capturing memories and history of Sharktail's main administrative center

Stadium:
iii. Kota Sultan Arena (30,000)

3. Outside of Kota Sultan and Kota Lama

Outside of the two main cities of Kota Sultan and Kota Lama, Sharktail is a laid-back island with many fishing towns dotted across its coast. Apart from Kota Jembal which is located in the heart of the island, all the other major settlements in the country are located along the coast of the island. These towns are famous for their fresh seafood and traditional way of life. All the major towns are connected by good roads, so don't worry about your travel on the island.

Stadium:
iv. Stadium Jembal, Kota Jembal (38,000)
v. Stadium Perbandaran Seri Meranti, Seri Menanti (30,000)

Transportation and Accommodation

Of course, what is in question to all is the convenience of accommodation and transportation to all. Sharktail Football Association has done its best to ensure everything goes smoothly. All preparations have been completed including accommodation, gym center facilities for each team, and various other needs. Sharktails leading domestic hotel chain, Dani Inn will provide accommodation facilities in all cities involved. In addition, in terms of nutrition, the Sports Committee with the Health Ministry of Sharktail will conduct a daily inspection every time the food is served to ensure the level of cleanliness and quality to avoid any problems that arise. For transportation services to the stadium, each contingent will be taken to the venue by bus provided by the tournament's official ground transportation provider, Anjung Motor at their hotel, all according to what has been planned. Not to be forgotten in the line of visitors, Dani Inn has provided room rental facilities throughout the tournament. Southern Palm Islands is an island country located in Mandalanusa. It is also known as the Palm Islands or SPI. In ancient times, it was part of the Sripala Kingdom alongside Eraman (Northern Palm Islands), Sharktail (Western Palm Islands), and Pemecutan (Eastern Palm Islands). The Southern Palm Islands were first used as a trading post for traders from Indusse. The trading post grew so big over time that the Indusseans outnumbered the native Lanyarans on the islands. The Indusseans, after centuries of living in the Southern Palm Islands, thousands of miles away from their homeland, then developed their own identity and culture and are now called the Palmyrans.

Southern Palm Islands Football Association (SPIFA) is the main organization behind the development of football in the Southern Palm Islands. The Southern Palm Islands national team is one of the emerging nations in Mandalanusa. With the success of neighboring Pemecutan qualifying for the World Cup, SPIFA finally decided to send the national team back to compete with the rest of the world.

Overview

Sendhang or Federation of Sendhang is a landlocked nation located in Mandalanusa on the Melayu Mainland. It has a land border with Acastanha, Kayangan, Springmont, Havynwilde, Bachok, and Samudera Darussalam. Sendhang consists of a federal territory and 4 states namely Lemah Banyu, Alamsunda, Putrasia, and Nainhá.

Sendhang is currently ranked 41st in the world.

Staffs & Tactics

Head Coach: Teuku Irfan

Teuku Irfan was officially appointed as the head coach of the national team prior to the 82nd Cup of Harmony after leading Sendhang to 5 wins, a draw, and a defeat in his 7 matches as the caretaker coach in the 90th World Cup qualifiers after Teuku Syarkawi was sacked. He is a graduate of sports science from the Universiti Sendhang and this is his first job as a head coach.

Irfan started his career with KS Tapaklaboh as the assistant to Teuku Syarkawi. He was brought to the national team setup 6 years ago after Teuku Syarkawi was appointed as the national team head coach.

Assistant Head Coach: Teuku Syarkawi

Teuku Syarkawi is the former head coach of KS Tapaklaboh, the most successful club in Putrasia in the States League era before the introduction of Liga Super Sendhang. He was appointed as the first head coach of the Sendhang national team a week after PS3 was officially announced. It was an easy decision for the decision-makers in PS3 at that time as Syarkawi is a very highly-rated head coach among football enthusiasts in Sendhang, especially Putrasia.

He was sacked by PS3 from the head coach position after six consecutive winless runs in the first half of the 90th World Cup qualifiers but was later handpicked by Teuku Irfan to be the assistant head coach of the national team. He is a long-time friend of Irfan who was his assistant at KS Tapaklaboh and the national team. The two complement each other and have worked well together for years. Irfan will usually lead team training while Syarkawi spent most of his time monitoring the training from his office while analyzing data and formulating strategies.

Style Modifier : -2
Formation : 4-1-2-3 DM

Teuku Irfan is a defensive-minded counter-attacking coach. He prefers to play with a defensive midfielder to protect the back four and to start counter-attacks. This is accompanied by two quick wingers that will sit deep to help the defense when they don't have the ball and get in position to launch a counter-attack while in transition when they have just won the ball.

Irfan prefers his team to be very disciplined in defending. His team will sit deep and frustrate the opponent for 90 minutes if needed. He doesn't believe in possession football. He wants his team to be very direct and quick when attacking. As his mentor and current assistant manager said, "possession doesn't win games. Goal does. Keep it tight at the back and hit them on the break."

The Change We've Been Waiting For

Pemecutan Puri - In the latest days, we've seen some intriguing situation that happening in the country. The meeting between the state's leaders with the protesters leads the way to the change that have been foreseen. The five days meeting help to breakup the tangled issues that lingering between the states especially between Pemecutan, the state and the other 2 constituent states of United Pemecutan. Despite the states have been given more and more freedom to run their domestic affairs through their devolved government, it seems that it is still not enough. They are demanding a radical change within the union. And that radical change is triggered by the previous incident involving the previous Ratu Hawir Bhuja, United Pemecutan Paramount King.

Based on the television interview which was broadcasted last Soma (Monday) in GBC-1, spokeperson to the government stated that the state's leaders ask for this change or they will demand a referendum of self determination which could lead to the dissolved of the Union. He said that in term to keep the Union intact, the government agree for the change. And the question is, what change that they demanded?

The press release of the meeting listed the change that will be happening in the country. And this change will have to be back up by several documents, laws or charters. To put it in a simple word, the country would be changing from a unitary into a federation or possibly a confederation. So the power of the central government will be limited and transfered to the state government. Here's some key change that will be process immediately by the Krama Sabha;
  • The equal status of all 3 constituent states.
  • To limit the power that have been have by Ratu Hawir Bhuja.
  • The change of government structure which will be consists of 3 parties; Ratu Hawir Bhuja, the noblemen through Patih Agung and the commoners through Patih Madya.
  • Equal representation of the states within Nagari Sabha (upper house) and Krama Sabha (lower house).
  • Rotating holder of Ratu Hawir Bhuja title between the 3 kings of the union.
  • Each government position (Ratu Hawir Bhuja, Patih Agung and Patih Madya) will consists of a 3 members, 1 from each state.
  • Extension of office term for the triumvirate from 4 years to 6 years with each member lead the position for 2 years each. The exception would be for Ratu Hawir Bhuja who took the position for a 6 years term before being replace.
  • Changing the status in The Mandaran Council where the 3 constituent states will become a full member.
  • Changing the status in PAST (Pemecutan, Acastanha, Soracana Islands, Toluiwa), the trade alliance where the 3 constituent states will become a full member.
  • Changing the status in AMAN where the country will receive 3 seats, one for each state.

From the list above, we can see that the changing is real. And the changing is radical. There's even a rumor that Kanginani leader ask for a name change for the new federation. Although this rumor have yet to confirmed. Nevertheless, both Krama Sabha and Nagari Sabha are currently in fast mode to enact legislation to back up the plan so the change can be smoothly happens. They are racing against time as the year 1785 is already near and Pemecutan general election lies ahead in 1786. While the government plan to settled everything before the election. So the upcoming election will elected for positioned of the newly established planned government and country. The year 1786 is also a good year for coronation based on Pawukon calendar counting. And the government won't let the moment pass.

Ketampi to Republic

The province of Ocidental or locally known as Ketampi, is one of the five province part of Palidas Republic, one of the two republics that make up Acastanha. Ketampi position in the western edge of the country, bordering Kieraha to its south and the Ketampi Gulf to their west is also a maritime border between the two. The province is a unique one. It is the only province with muslim majority population as oppose to the country's catholic majority. Aside from that, Ketampi people also have a different ethnic root than the other ethnic groups in the country. This uniqueness that have become the main reason of their battle in demanding recognition as the third republic of the country. This lead to the rise of nationalism and separatism inside the province. The two local political parties, Ketampi Bersatu and Parti Ketam Jaya are the proponent supporter for the establishment of Ketampi Republic. They had submitted a bill for a referendum in the province twice before. The referendum would ask the citizen whether they support the province to become its own republic or not. But the bill was failed to meet the majority support in the provincial government. And with the growing numbers of both parties presence within the provincial parliament of Ketampi, they are ready to submit another similar bill.

The bill was submitted a month ago. It would ask the Palidas parliament to granted their wish for a binding referendum to determine the future of the province whether stay as a province within Palidas Republic or becoming its own republic. The discussion of the bill was blocked by PLDP faction which makes the discussion being postponed. Ketampi Bersatu and Parti Ketam Jaya factions push for the discussion agenda to be placed. The moved was support by PPS faction who is in coalition with both local parties. Then last Friday, Ketampi Provincial Parliament opened the discussion about the bill. It was an intense discussion with PLDP and Avante Palidas factions rejects the bill. The discussion ended up in a voting which eventually supported the bill. 5 out of 7 factions in the parliament supported the bill. And with this result, the bill is officially signed into law.

But now, the law of Ketampi referendum is in the hand of Palidas parliament. The parliament will determine if the law can continue or will it be blocked. This would be a hard battle for them as the Palidas parliament is majorly fill with MPs from PLDP who clearly not supported the separation of Ketampi. "We have fight this far and we won't back down. Our friends in the provincial parliament have open up the path and now it is our duty to guard this law so it can be implemented," said Salahuddin Soleh, Ketampi Bersatu President. While waiting for the answer from Palidas Parliament, Ketampi government have prepare for the referendum. They are very determine with this referendum despite the 50:50 chance. "I don't think it is wrong to prepare everything while we are waiting for the confirmation. If it is passed then we can immediately held the referendum," comment Muhammad Azam, Governor of Ketampi Province.

In Porto Espinhosa, Palidas capital, the law was just submitted this morning to the parliament and they will find the right time to discuss and decided the matter. "The law will be a top priority. I think the agenda will be scheduled tomorrow," informed Bruno Ekshiava, PLDP faction leader.

Soma Umanis Wuku Watugunung, Pawukon 1784

Accept or Reject

Pemecutan Puri - Today, the delegation from Toluiwa is arriving at the capital city, Pemecutan Puri. This delegation consist of Toluiwa's Prime Minister, Fatur al-Fatah and their ministers especially in economic field. The visitation is plan as the last effort from The Mandaran Council members to persuade Pemecutan to convert their currency into the single currency unit that was introduce by the Council two years ago and will be implemented next year. Until this date, Pemecutan and its constituent states become the only member of the Council who rejected the implementation of the new currency. And Toluiwa is send as the representative of the Council.

The Mandaran Council was established in 1750 Pawukon as an inter-governmental cooperation between the Mandaran countries. Mandaran countries are an ethnolinguistic group of countries known as Malayo-mandaran. These people have the same root in their language and have a similar culture. The spread of these people are in Yuhansa Archipelago (Soracana Islands), Majegau Archipelago (Pemecutan and Rarungan) and Cendana Islands (Cakranegara, Gili Anakan, Toluiwa and Kencana). The Mandaran Council however only consists of 6 out of 7 identified Mandaran countries with the exception of Kencana. The small country have been mostly looked down upon even with their neighbors, Toluiwa and Cakranegara. The name of Mandaran itself came from the Old Giri language word 'mandara' which means sea or ocean.

Throughout its existence, the Council have managed to bring their members closer and closer. The implementation of free trade area, open border, visa free are some of the laws that have been enacted and currently still applied within the Council's boundaries. And the latest law to be implemented is a single currency act. The law was passed in 1783 Pawukon to ease trade transaction between council members. Pemecutan however was not consulted at the time because the country was suspended from the Council from 1779 Pawukon following their action in Soracana Islands. The law was passed a few weeks before Pemecutan suspension was lifted by the Council as Soracana Islands is given back its power of military and international representation and cease to become Pemecutan's dependent territory. And because Pemecutan was not consulted during the drafting of the law, they are rejected the implementation of it. Another reason about the rejection is because Pemecutan currency is one of the strongest in the region. So changing their currency might affected their economy. On the other hand, Pemecutan is the biggest economy between the members of the Council. And their absent in the single currency implementation won't give the impact that the other members want.

It would be hard for us to change our currency when our position is on top. We can't risk our economy for that. The most possible way is for us to implemented both currency or make the exchange rate similar to ours.

Wawan Heriawan
Deputy Minister of Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Economic and Trade

Despite the coming of Toluiwan delegation, it seems that Pemecutan government won't back down with their decision to not supporting the new currency. However, the meeting and talks is just begin and anything can happened during the process. But how about the citizen? Are they supporting for a new currency to be implemented? A survey from 2 major survey bureau in Pemecutan, LSN (Lembaga Survey Nasional, National Survey Institute) and Mahagotra Research Institute, showed that more than 70% of the respondents rejected a new currency to be implemented in the country. Only around 10% who accepted while the other still undecided. The top reason of the rejection is inline with the government concern. They are afraid that the currency change might collapsing the country's economy. It seems that the trauma from passed financial and economic crisis that happened in the country make the citizens more careful even for a small change within the country's economic system. "It's better this way. Why need for a change?" comment a passerby as we done a random street interview.

i

ii. The 32nd Floor

After checking in at the Nusa Daulapura Hotel, I quickly made my way to the Nusa Trade Center located just next door to gather with the party's top leadership. The party's top leadership was scheduled to gather on the 32nd floor of the building which houses the headquarters of the Eraman's Nationalist Party. As soon as I got to the 32nd floor, I went straight to the party command room which was filled with screens displaying the latest results from all over the country obtained through the party machinery in the vote counting center.

The atmosphere in the command room at that time was very tense, the party leadership looked very tired after campaigning for 2 weeks and anxiously waiting for the upcoming results. The Bendahara of Eraman, Tun Rendra Usin was not there yet at that time. To this day, I still don't know where he was at that time but I understand that, as the party president, there are many secret meetings that Tun Rendra Usin has to do.

At that time, at 7:30 pm, only the Boni seat was already announced. Counting in other seats was still in the early stages. The National Front was leading in many areas but that was to be expected because of the early vote and postal vote, which consisted of military, police, and civil servants who were on duty on polling day. These groups are known to be strong supporters of the party. However, the vote count was still at an early stage for the party leadership to feel relieved.

The hottest topic of the night, apart from the ongoing elections, was the latest development from Pemecutan, Eraman's highly influential neighbor in the region. The announcement from Pemecutan that evening regarding the change in the government structure in the country was very surprising. At that point, I had only watched a few clips on the internet about it and didn't fully understand what was going on over there.

I only listened to the opinions of other party leaders regarding the development. There are leaders who think that the geopolitical power of Pemecutan needs to be curbed immediately while there are party leaders who think that the development was purely an internal matter of Pemecutan. But I didn't think deeply about the issue that night. My main concern that night was about Eraman's future and the election results.

At 7:52 pm, the second official result was announced by the Eraman Election Committee. Results from northern Eraman in Ronan seat located in Aru state. This seat is a hot seat for several reasons. First, this seat has been the traditional seat of The National Front since democracy was introduced in Eraman but has been usurped by The People's Pact for the past 3 terms.

Second, the seat was contested by Eraman's opposition leader himself, Nura Rabima who was also the former Bendahari of Eraman before his dismissal from The National Front. Once seen as the second most influential man in the country after the Bendahara, he is very charismatic and a very popular figure in his hometown of Ronan.

We realize that it will be quite difficult for The National Front to retake this seat with Nura Rabima as an opponent. But that doesn't stop us from trying. By placing Jai Murni as a candidate, we believed that Nura Rabima will not win the seat easily because Jai Murni who is also a Supreme Council Member of the Eraman Nationalist Party, the main party in the National Front is a competent and credible candidate to seize this seat.

However, in the end, we had to accept the decision of the voters who chose Nura Rabima to win the Ronan seat, which is synonymous with the opposition leader. The results announced were disappointing but not surprising to those of us who gathered on the 32nd floor of the NTC that night. It is something that has been expected.

What started to worry many was that, at exactly 8 pm, there was still no glimpse of the Bendahara of Eraman, Tun Rendra Usin at UTC. His cell phone also failed to be reached. With the National Front trailing by seats, everyone was asking, "Where is he?"

What's in the Name?

Mengwi - Yesterday, Kanginani politician made a headline after his statement went viral. He urge Kangingani parliament to start re-introduce the use of Kanginan native name to be use internationally. Sang Putu Raka Sujana is the name of the politician. He is reside in Abiansemal and is represent the electoral district there. Sujana said that they must take advantage of this constitution amendment to officially reuse the native name of Kanginan to refer to them. His statement however has sparks a discussion in the state whether it is necessary to change the name. "I think Sujana forget there is endonym and exonym. We can use both interchangeably without the needs of changing everything. We never drop the native name of Kanginan, aren't we?" argued another MP.

Historically, the name of Kanginan was introduce by the kings who ruled Giri Islands, the main island of Pemecutan, to refer to the group of island east of them. This name was carried over during the Sripala's era and later on. A kingdom was established then in the group of islands named Manguwirajya which center in today's Mengwi. And that name is believed by the native Kanginani people as their state official name. But the documents from the mainland always suggested that the name only applied to the area that was under the said kingdoms influence. While the whole islands group was named Kanginan Islands. This perception is carried over until the colonial era. When the kingdoms in Kanginan Islands merge under the ruler of Manguwirajya Kingdom, the colonial administrative officially recognized them as Kanginan Kingdom although locally they refer themselves as Manguwirajya. This confusion stayed at it is until the independence of the islands within United Pemecutan. The union administration also refer this state as Kanginan State but locally it is name Manguwirajya or Manguwiraja. The state's constitution also implicitly mention that the state name is State of Manguwirajya. But internationally, it is recognized as State of Kanginan.

Sujana suggested that the state's parliament needs to resolved this confusion and urge the central government to start referring the state as Manguwirajya in every documents of the country. And it is start with the new constitution. But some of the MPs have a different opinion. They suggest to use both name concurrently. Kanginan as the state's exonym name which will be use in international level while the name Manguwirajya is the state's local or endonym name. The pro-name change supporters pressed the issue of colonialism and Pemecutan superiority which implies in the name so it needs to be change to end the colonial connection in the state's name. While the anti-name change supporters argue that the change will needs a lot of paperworks and will take years to be implemented everywhere. The change would also cost a sum of money as everything from road sign to postal codes need to be change.

On the other hand, the Krama Sabha urge the Kanginani Parliament, Uma Rakryan to solved this problem so it won't halt the process of the country's constitution amendment. "It was them who start this wave of change and we make a compromise for them but then they start another issue to halt the ongoing process? Making and amending the constitution is not an easy deal. They have to focus on their priority." comment the PKA faction spokesperson. Currently, Krama Sabha is in the process to create a new constitution following the consensus of the leaders to change the country's government from unitary into a confederacy. This is a huge change for the country after the agreement to established a devolved government for all 3 states some 70+ years ago.

Match of the Day

Acastanha have a high hope when entering the 13th edition of Mandalanusa Cup. As the defending champion, the country aim high in their participation. Especially after yet another disappointing WC cycle results. The regional competition is their warm up to the upcoming World Cup qualification. But the team start the competition with a shocking 5-2 lose against former champion Southern Palm Islands. It was a sad news for the football fans back home. But the lose seems to ignite the power withheld deep inside. The second match was a success when they defeated Tanah Jaya by 2-0. And another win against Berdeng Bundok lift their position to third in the group table with only a different goal difference than Southern Palm Islands who placed second. But to advance further, they have to finished second on the table. And their next obstacle to accomplish that is none other than Sendhang.

The meeting is predicted to be high tension. Noticing that they was last meet in the final of 12th Mandalanusa Cup, this would likely to happened. Sendhang, of course wants to revenge for their defeat and securing their position on top of the group table. They are only 1 point ahead of the second and third place. While Acastanha have to win to secure their position and to show that they are still the same team that have defeated Sendhang before. But anything can happened in the world of a round ball. One thing that needs to be prepared the most for Acastanha squad is their defense. In 3 matches, they have been conceded 6 goals, averaging 2 goals per match which is quite high for a second best team in the region. Island of the Lost and Berdeng Bundok are the only team that worst than them in term of conceded goal. Even Tanah Jaya is slightly better than them. This little weakness need to be covered or Sendhang might use their forwards to attacks tirelessly. In the end, as the fans, we can always pray for the best for the team. For the officials, this is their time to prove that they are still the best. And for the squad to show their best performance. Play it like it is another final and bring that ticket of knockout stage to the country.
