International Baseball Slam XIX (Signups CLOSED)

PostPosted: Tue Mar 21, 2023 7:10 am

Welcome to signups for International Baseball Slam XIX: The Nineteenth Edition! This is the ninth edition of the revival of the IBS, a minor baseball tournament between WBCs previously run by Gregoryisgodistan and Super-Llamaland. I brought this back as a way to keep up baseball enthusiasm between WBCs and allow for new nations or nations that do not traditionally compete in the WBC to try out baseball RPing.

To signup, simply post your nation name and a nickname, in the following format:

Nova Anglicana Lions

If you wish to enter a domestic club team, your signup should look like this:

Domestic club team name + nickname (nation name)

Example: Vinovium Gunners (Nova Anglicana)

Please note that if you want to send a youth team, "U[age]s" is an acceptable nickname.

Host bids are welcome, and this is a good chance for nations to host their first event, though it is not recommended you bid unless you have at least some experience RPing in this subforum. Hosting previous events is by no means a prerequisite, but at least participating and actively RPing so you get a feel for how things work probably is. Your bid won't be rejected as long as it includes all required information, but bids by brand new users are unlikely to win.

The host bid deadline is set for Tuesday, March 28th, at 11:59 PM (midnight) EST (UTC-5). Host voting may begin early if we have only one host bid, no other likely bidders, and significant interest. After that, we will vote on hosts and then the tournament will be turned over to the host(s). Signups will remain open through the end of the host voting, but any nations who sign up after host voting starts are ineligible to vote, as will the bidder(s).

Here is the winning bid from IBS XVI, by United Adaikes.

Here is the winning bid from IBS XVII, by South Newlandia and Super-Llamaland.

Here is the winning bid from IBS XVIII, by Quebec & Shingoryeo.

The bids should resemble those three bids in format, somewhat, and include similar information. Please note that previous editions of the IBS have used both the series format and the single-game format. Both are acceptable in host bids.

There were previously IBS ranks. However, in the spirit of keeping up interest and allowing for more fleshed-out roleplaying, we will not be using ranks, instead saying that no senior national teams of nations that are ranked in the WBC will be competing. Instead, established nations should feel free to send backup national team squads, college all-stars, domestic minor leaguers, U18/U21 squads, a domestic club team, or some other collection of players. Have fun with it and use this tournament to flesh out your baseball worldbuilding! Nations not ranked in the WBC or competing in a baseball event for the first time should feel free to enter a senior national team if they so choose.

Puppets are allowed at a maximum of one per nation and must be confirmed by the master nation, but in the end, it is up to the host whether to include them or not. This post also acts as a signup for Nova Anglicana and my numbers puppet, San Isidro Labrador.

We're playing of course as Katterimunk Knights.

Umm, i have a question. You see i wanna host the tournament but IC my nation does not have any major league of baseball, and it is a minor sport to cricket. I do watch and know how to play baseball(Guardians fan here) and have the basic sense of baseball stats and strats. So any help here?

Thanks for signing up! A nation's IC interest in baseball isn't necessary to host a tournament. If you can think of a reason for your nation to host, then make a bid! What's most important is that you know how to use a scorinator. I would download xkoranate and make sure you can use the baseball function; maybe try scorinating a domestic league (even amateur level is fine) for practice. Beyond that, look at the previous bids listed in the OP and use them for guidance. You can also TG or message on Discord more experienced players who have hosted multiple tournaments or NS Sports moderators and mentors for advice.

It's good you're expressing interest in bidding, but I can't add you to the list of host bids until you present an actual bid, hopefully modeled after some of the previous bids. Other caveats also apply, like making sure you know how to use a scorinator, add RP bonus, etc.

The beautiful nation of Milk Island is extremely happy to host IBS XIX

Right now we currently have around 20 teams entered my goal is to get 24-32 teams for a group stage, then a round of 16, the a quarterfinal (5 games) then the semifinal (5 games) the the final (7 games)

scoring will be held by a randomizer and a rp bonus of 2 if you rp that matchday you will get a bonus of 2 The following tiebreakers will be: WIns, Run differential, then a irl coin flip. I may be helped a bit for games i play in by the lovely nation of The United Socialist States of Katterimunk

Nation Info:
Located in the Pacific Milk island is a very exciting Area of over 10 thousand islands its capital is East Joneles the nation animal is the panda and has many futuristic buildings and has a very strong military and their GDP yearly is around 17.8 trillion last time I checked

Sports history of Milk Island
Milk island lost in the round of 16 for the last WBC after having a very good roster but we have hosted 2 private tournaments and have take in part in 10 other tournaments we also have beautiful stadiums and is known for 4 major baseball leagues, 2 football leagues, 1 basketball league, 1 soccer league and 6 pandaball leagues

Two questions here:

If you RP on a given matchday, you're given a bonus of 2 regardless of quality?

If the scorination is done with a "randomizer," how are you going to implement the RP bonus?

Indeed regardless of RP quality you will get an RP bonus of 2 that will affected randomized innings throughout the match and will be used on either hitting or pitching it matters which side is better and the bonus will go to the worse side between hitting and pitching. Happy to answer any questions
