Six seconds left in the fourth, here we go, this could be the last play of the game. Honey Badgers trail by eight, they need to get this touchdown and go for two. Alright, there's the snap, Gordon hands it over to Dyer, Dyer looks for an opening, runs up the middle, and Dyer breaks free! He's at the 40, the 30, but what's this, Jensen giving chase! The twenty, the ten, Dyer makes a run for it - OH! And he's stopped at the one by Helmut Jensen! That's game! And the Red Pandas escape, 37 to 29! What a win!

After destroying the Universidade de Soria Bats 53-19 on the road a week ago, the Upper Westside University Red Pandas make their NSCF 28 home debut, facing a Hankow State U Honey Badgers squad that United Vietussian press were hyping up as the team to watch in the Celestia Conference. The Red Pandas were well aware that this was going to be a tough matchup, having seen firsthand what their opponents were capable of as they fell to them 40-17 last season at the Honey Badgers' home turf. "That's all behind us now, we're a brand new squad," said UWU head coach Fabio Forelli. "We hope that as our teams meet for the second time in two seasons, things become different."

And they were different, swinging in the home team's favor this time. Upper Westside never found themselves trailing, and they also successfully prevented what would have been a fourth quarter comeback from Hankow State. Linebacker Helmut Jensen had the game of his life, recording two sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, and twelve total tackles, the last one preventing opposing running back Mark Dyer from scoring on the final play and potentially forcing overtime.

1Q UWU field goal Ingberg 44 UWU 3-0
1Q HSU field goal Love 32 Tie 3-3
It was a close game for much of the first half, as the two teams simply matched each other points-wise. It began with a field goal apiece from either side, even mirroring each other as Matt Ingberg's attempt bounced off the left upright and in, while HSU counterpart Lewis Love's hit the right one before falling through.

1Q UWU Okoma 60 run (Ingberg kick) UWU 10-3
A sack on quarterback Adrian St. Roger and a holding penalty on guard Arthur Stone made it a third and long situation late in the first quarter. However, running back Chase Okoma was able to get them not only a first down, but he took the ball all the way to the house for a touchdown and an early seven-point lead.

2Q HSU French 29 pass from Gordon (Love kick) Tie 10-10
The visitors would not respond back until the start of the second period, knotting the game up at ten apiece with a TD pass from Willie Gordon to Tony French.

2Q UWU Jensen 51 interception return (Ingberg kick) UWU 17-10
Later, Gordon targeted French again, only for Cam Wayne to take a swipe at the ball, causing it to land in Jensen's hands. The latter then made a run for it, going more than half the length of the field and into the end zone, giving UWU back the one-possession lead.

2Q HSU field goal Love 28 UWU 17-13
The Red Pandas then stopped the Honey Badgers from tying the game up again before halftime, forcing them to settle for the field goal.

3Q UWU Dobler 16 pass from St. Roger (Ingberg kick) UWU 24-13
Three and outs from both sides marked the start of the third quarter. It took until the middle of the period for UWU to score, the Sam Dobler reception giving them their largest lead of the day at eleven.

3Q HSU Villarreal 30 interception return (Love kick) UWU 24-20
Unfortunately for them, an errant pass by St. Roger was snatched in midair by Ruben Villarreal, who would return it and cut the lead back down to four.

4Q UWU field goal Ingberg 42 UWU 27-20
The home team settled for three points after their drive ended in three straight incompletions.

4Q HSU Mueller 9 pass from Gordon (Kick failed) UWU 27-26
Hankow State had the chance to tie, capping off their long drive with a Leslie Mueller catch in the end zone, but unfortunately for them, the ensuing extra point was blocked by the Red Pandas.

4Q UWU Tramell 21 run (Ingberg kick) UWU 34-26
Dayquan Tramell, the man of the match against Soria, joined the scoring party to give Upper Westside an eight-point advantage.

4Q HSU field goal Love 45 UWU 34-29
4Q UWU field goal Ingberg 34 UWU 37-29
The scoring for the day ended the way it started, with two field goals from the two teams. No doinks this time however.

With the win, the Red Pandas now find themselves atop the Sequoia Division with a 2-0 record. They will remain at home next week as they face the Royal Navy Academy Mariners, who narrowly escaped the Bats 23-20 after extra time to improve to 1-1, same as the Honey Badgers. "This will be the first time we will face these Mariners," said Coach Forelli. "We will treat them as a legitimate threat and prepare ourselves for whatever will happen." Asked why his team has not been getting much international press lately, he replied, "I don't mind being under everyone's radar right now. It's still early in the season anyway, but if we keep playing like we did in these last two games, maybe they'll finally take notice."

Loyola-Istria Head Coach, Dennis Zervos, driving home from practice on Monday of North v. South Showdown week

Loyola-Istria's head coach, Dennis Zervos, was having a hellish time. Both South Newlandian schools had come to the Lightning Yard and put a two possession whupping on the Blue Thunder- Elephant Valley and RUoN, in succession. In their years in the NSCF, Loyola-Istria had never started 0-2 in the competition before. And in general, such poor starts almost never happened for such a powerful program. It was their first 0-2 start in 22 years- aka, the domestic season coinciding with NSCF Season 6. And thinks absolutely could get worse. They hadn't started 0-3 as a program in 107 years- and that year, the worst in Loyola history(1-10), was mostly because the Kabaka himself at the time had ordered that his second son would coach the team. Aka, political meddling.

So yes- it was not hyperbole to say that Loyola-Istria was on the verge of their worst start ever. They had only six 0-2 starts in team history, and this was their seventh. None of those previous 6 had both of those opening games at home. And the Blue Thunder, as the 3X defending conference champs, were double digit favorites in both of these games. And you know, Zervos was the coach of a team in a country where your success/failure was always relative to your rivals. Richardson and Felswyr State had both gotten off to flying 2-0 starts, as the Governors and Firehawks were re-loading for a title chase.

And that did not even begin to mention- Northern Moravica. The relationship these two teams have... It goes beyond definition. The jealousy. The rage. The most famous example- Horace Browning, a 4X Celestia Conference champion in 5 NSCF seasons, getting fired largely because Loyola-Istria won 2 titles before NMU won a playoff game. So when NMU earned some domineering road victories against the same teams that took it to Loyola-Istria in the Lightning Yard... Things were not looking great for the Blue Thunder.

They had a road trip in the North v. South Showdown. ULI and NMU fans had never been in such agreement before- The Cougars were going to whip Blue Thunder ass. Listening to Istria radio was not a fun time. Especially those with call-ins- the callers were incredulous.

Istria Radio Callers wrote:I had planned to go up to the game with my brothers-in-law, who are all NMU grads. I just told them never mind- I didn't want to see that ass-kicking live."

"Man, Zervos is looking like a damn idiot on the sidelines. Can ANY wideout get open, just once? Looks like we just threw on dudes from the street to get open for A-MV. No wonder we're 0-2."

"I had a bet on this game before the season, betting on the Blue Thunder. I cashed out at 10% of my bet. That's better than $0, right?"

Confidence was low, things were looking dark...

Loyola-Istria Head Coach, Dennis Zervos, in the fourth quarter, his team down 24-13 with 11 minutes left...

The Blue Thunder were down, 11 points, and had a 3rd and 13 at the NMU 25 yard line. A-MV had taken a brutal, 8 yard loss on a sack on the previous play, to set up the third and long. Zervos knew that he needed to dial up something good- obviously, at minimum make the field goal shorter. Playing it safe- not his usual aggressive self, but that's what these losing streaks did to teams.

"C'mon boys!" He said into the headset. "We're doing this." He called a simple middle screen- something where Xaya Larr could get 6 or 7 yards out of the slot, give an easy, under 40 yard field goal for el-Mady, and make it a one possession ballgame. The ball was snapped, and Larr got the football, as designed. But then- suddenly he was a warrior. He broke three tackles, and got all the way to the sticks- well, almost.

"First down! First down!" Zervos yelled, pointing forward. But the Cardenao official was adamant- he placed the ball, and Larr was short by a chain link. Fourth and inches. Down two possesions. 10:30 and counting. Normal Zervos is lining it up and going for it- a half-yard for the Blue Thunder offense? No problem. But this team?

"We gotta kick." And he yanked his team off the field. Everyone seemed to be pissed. NMU students started chanting that he was scared. But he knew it was the right decision. Make it a one score game- go down 8.

Even A-MV, who always had her emotions under control, was pissed getting to the sideline. "C'mon, coach! Let us go for it! We can get that yard! I can hit Schlachter on an out-"

"Anne-Maurice." He said. "I've made my decision. One score game, over 10 minutes left? We'll be in great shape." She went back to the sideline, frustrated. The team was frustrated. He seemed to be losing them. The kicker jogged onto the field. 31 yard field goal. Chip shot, right? NMU didn't even try to block it, just guarding against the fake. And... it CLANKED against the right upright, and fell harmlessly into the end zone. No good. Loyola-Istria were in shambles. Zervos just shook his head. Body language disastrous. They needed a miracle to save their season. Where would it come from?

Loyola-Istria stun NMU with comeback at their stadium, 'save their season' as the Celestia Conference title race is blown wide open

Loyola-Istria OLB Cornelius Okech celebrates his game-sealing sack and forced fumble in front of a silenced NMU home crowd

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- "Sometimes, things need to burn to the ground to allow new life to flourish." Said a jubliant Blue Thunder Head Coach, Dennis Zervos, after what some might say was the 'biggest game of his career'- at least as a ULI Head Coach, of course. Loyola-Istria v. Northern Moravica was only supposed to end one way. And that way, should have been a Cougars victory. The line closed as NMU as 9.5 point favorites at home. You all know why- NMU won 2 road games against the SNL schools to start the season, while ULI lost two home games against the same two schools. Why in the world would NMU then have any trouble at all dispatching their archrivals, in their home opener?

A lot at stake for both schools, of course. Everyone knows what was at stake for ULI, of course. But think about what was at stake for NMU. A win here would have meant a lot, in many ways. They would've been three games clear of their archrivals in the divisional race, for one. The path to a Savannah Division title would have suddenly been straightforward. 3 game lead over the defending champs. 1 and a 2 game lead over each South Newlandian school, with wins at both of their houses. And, most importantly, a clear indicator in which way college football was going within the Kingdom. NMU clearly establishing themselves as the current dominant program.

The smack talk, as always, was blazing. Lance Kabuye was confident- he did not mince his words on the Blue Thunder. "We're gonna show this state, the country, the freaking world- the Celestia runs through Herzegovina freaking City. And the Blue Thunder, well... I mean, it's been my favorite season of Loyola-Istria football that I've ever watched." Zervos came straight back with the zingers- seemingly backing down, but yet, defiant, telling reporters that Loyola would 'let their work on the field do the talking' and that they were 'much closer to where they wanted to be than their record suggested'.

Who was right?

NMU has always wanted to establish the run, and this game was no different. Amira Kong and Balinda Kisero were getting the lion's share of the carries for Northern Moravica, and the Cougars offense was happy to keep feeding them the football. It allowed them to control the pace of the game, and the clock, of course- enough of the clock to really get ahead in this one. They had 177 yards of rushing in the first half, amidst 247 yards of total offense in the first half. Amira Kong and Balinda Kisero were really the sources of that, with the team getting a stunning 21:01 time of possesion in the first half as well.

So for the Cougars to have 21 points at halftime was not surprising. Amira Kong punched it in from 2 yards in the first quarter, and 4 yards in the second quarter- while Kisero taking a HB screen 7 yards into the end zone. The Blue Thunder, meanwhile, could only manage 10 first half points. They only had one legitimate long-form drive in the first half- otherwise, it was mostly punts besides one big play. But those count the same, right? A-MV has always had the ability to take the top off, and her 81 yard TD pass to senior WR Timon Ogweyo(who is 4th on the depth chart!) were responsible for Loyola's only TD of the half. It came at a key moment, too- the first play after NMU had made it 14-0, and they were able to cut the lead in half. Haashid el-Mady converted a 49 yarder as time expired in the first half, as well, and NMU were up 21-10.

The Cougars weren't perfect in the first half- but they were certainly controlling the game. They probably could have been up more, but on a 2nd and 1 at the Loyola 30, Felix Ström had been intercepted in the end zone by Loyola FS Israel Aero, for a touchback. In the third quarter, we did not see a ton from either team, admittedly. Both managed just a field goal. Dwayne Markseon showed off his leg as one of the best kickers the sport has ever seen, drilling a shocking 54 yarder. Meanwhile, el-Mady converted his second FG of the contest from 38 yards. That's what brought us to the fourth quarter- NMU up, 24-13, but Loyola-Istria having the ball, and driving.

And drive they did. They got all the way down inside the red zone. Took a brutal sack, and then a heroic effort by Xaya Larr to land the Blue Thunder a couple of chain links short. Then, a lot of heat towards Zervos- taking the chip shot field goal to go down 8, rather than trying to get those last couple of chain links and score a TD. Maybe the right call? Maybe the wrong call. But the symbolism- an uncharacteristic call, to say the least. And they paid for it. An easy 31 yarder, and el-Mady simply clanked the kick against the upright. Disastrous. Trying for a comeback, goes for the safe call, and then they blow that.

"It's just been that kind of season for Loyola." Said the announcer. Most people thought that was it. But the Loyola defense had stepped up in the third quarter. And they were ready for this day's challenge. They needed to inspire the Blue Thunder back into the contest. First and second down runs for Amira Kong- each losing a yard. 3rd and 12, the Cougars forced to throw the ball down the field. Nadine is running an out route- but an excellent blitz up the middle by Najee Isidora forces Felix Ström to throw the ball a beat early. Timing is everything on those plays, right? Akhello Volson jumped the route, and intercepted the pass- and 22 yards later, was untouched in the end zone for a touchdown.

Huge defensive TD for Loyola-Istria. They went for 2 to make it a three point game- which was successful, with an A-MV pass to grad transfer TE Mugisa Mbuzimulanga. Suddenly, it was 24-21 to NMU, 9 minutes left. Momentum to Loyola-Istria. Anybody's ballgame. Could the Cougars close it out?

Both teams defenses would step up after that. Forcing some three and outs- the Cougars were not able to move the ball, but the Blue Thunder could not do so either. Clearly, we were on the cusp of another classic ending to this rivalry- but which team would triumph? The Blue Thunder would have a drive start at their own 19 yard line, with 3:22 left in the contest. And that's when Vavayavich really went to work. She would only need five plays- 14 yards to Schlacther, 6 to Nordstrom, 27 to Arnas Rønning, 24 more yards also to Arnas Rønning, and then a 10 yard touchdown pass to Marcel Schlachter. An elite QB making elite throws- pushign the ball down the field, in a hostile environment, on the road, and not just the rivalry- but the entire season on the brink of disaster. 27-24. Haashid el-Mady continued his day to forget, with a missed PAT, wide left- huge, because all NMU needed was a field goal.

NMU got the ball back with 1:50 left, and all three of their timeouts. Could Felix Ström write his name into permanent NMU lore with a comeback victory here? He had struggled on this day- with two crucial INTs, including a pick six. Unfortunately for the Cougars, this would not be the night to write his name into the storied lore of this rivalry. A first down sack lost seven yards, and that put NMU just way behind the sticks. Second and third down incompletions forced them to punt on 4th and 17, and hope to get the ball back. They actually did get the ball back- a ULI punt ensured that NMU would get the ball back, at their own 27, with just 31 seconds left. And no timeouts.

College rules on first downs, however. And with Markseon as their kicker. Maybe they'd need 30 or so yards to get into range? That would be a 56 yarder- crazy for any kicker, but Markseon could probably do it- especially with the wind at his back. But like we said- it was not meant to be. Once again, it would be the Blue Thunder defense that would step up and win this game. We'll just let the radio announcers take it...

Loyola-Istria Radio Announcer wrote:Felix Ström is in formation. They've got 4 WRs spread out. Cornelius Okech and Karilisa Sentambaazi are the EDGE rushers for the Blue Thunder. Ström sets the count and the football is snapped... Okech is blowing by his blocker and getting pressure! Ström is going to be sacked- and the BALL IS ON THE GROUND! OKECH STRIPPED IT, IT"S LOOSE.. AND BRIAN BOND HAS FALLEN ON IT! THE DELACLAV RECOVERS THE BALL! BLUE THUNDER FOOTBALL! BLUE THUNDER FOOTBALL! ALL THAT'S LEFT IS THE KNEELDOWNS NOW! WE'VE BEATEN THOSE BASTARDS FROM THE NORTH! FOR THE FIRST TIME ALL SEASON, WE CAN SAY THE GREATEST WORDS OF ALL-TIME: LOYOLA-ISTRIA ARE GONNA WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME!

One kneeldown from A-MV later, and it happened- the Blue Thunder stunned the Mugisha II Memorial Stadium crowd. Dennis Zervos savored the victory. He even referred to comments from the previous season, where Kabuye called out Loyola's mental toughness. "This game- shows the mental toughness of this team! The other coach likes to say we aren't mentally tough- but we just came back against his team, down 11 in the fourth, at his house. Who's mentally tough now? Think about the pressure this team faced. Obviously, the season did not start as we wanted it. But this proves- everything is still in front of us. And seasons are not won and lost in weeks 1 and 2- one game separates first from last in the Savannah Division. And we've got seven games to play. PLENTY of time. Winning the division, winning the conference, making the playoffs.. Everything we want to do is still very, very possible."

Loyola-Istria will try to continue this form at home, next week, against Universidade de Soria. Meanwhile, NMU, also at home, will try to beat their next rivals as they take on Hankow State in a Battle for the Golden Axe.

NSFB: Eagles Soar Over Arrows (Earth Trophy VII)

Postby TJUN-ia » Mon Mar 06, 2023 2:51 pm

After another brilliant week of TJUN-ian NSCF Football, you all know what time it is. The Trent State Feathercaps knew, the Green City Royal Eagles knew, both Notts and Green City knew and so did all of TJUN-ia. It was finally time for Earth Trophy VII, and this one would be between two undefeated teams.

TSU reached that 2-0 mark with a pretty good performance against Mount Winston but Johnny Bridgeford knew that his team would be under the most pressure here as they would have to defend the trophy over in The Palace. Jason Steels would be defending the Trophy for the first time in his career but he hoped that his experience against his opposite number would help against a hungry rival crowd in the AU, with everyone thinking that Eleonora "Firefeet" Scafakou would be key no matter what went down.

GCU went to Baker Park and knocked off the UCBP Warriors pretty convincingly to reach the 2-0 mark, but Paul Abdullahi was still a bit salty from losing the Trophy on the final day of conference play last year and certainly wanted to keep it in Green City where it belonged. This would be GCU's first-ever ET without Moses Igbinoghene, so all hope would be placed on the shoulders of Alisha Obi Michel, with Glory Oparanozie looking to support her with her legs.

Everyone knew that this contest was going to bang...but it would be GCU's defence that ended up being the deciding factor as Dayo Mussagi, Michaela Koutouan and Kimbelly Chang-Tak Hue were making the plays that stalled Steels plenty of times - to the delight of Fortune Eze and the anguish of Pierre Grandestois. Still, Steels would end up with 2 TDs on the night thanks to superb pulling power both times from Catherine Alcaraz-Cortéz, but Frederic von Habsburg would have a mixed night as Firefeet only managed 1/2 on PATs, but did nail a 43-yard FG.

One name I did miss from the defensive pieces was Ariet Odong and for good reason, as she managed to pick off Steels during his first drive and run it back for a pick 6 that sent The Palace into raptures...and GCU wasn't done yet. You could certainly feel that Alehandro Martinez tried everything within his power to stop the weapons Adamma Isa had at his disposal...all except one. Because Alisha Obi Michel tore the fucking house down on debut, rushing home 2 TDs on her own legs before throwing the other 2 to Harrison Jeffers and Carlton McSwane. Idris Mohammad had a bit of fun too, with Oparanozie kicking 4/5 on PATs. Usually, a field storm this early in the year may frown upon...but the Earth Trophy was back in Green City, after a 34-16 performance, and so this one was going to be celebrated.

That ends the 1st half of Heartland Division play...now, both schools will take their strong records to the Boreal for 4 defining games in the season. TSU heads back to the Horseshoe in order to host 2-1 Alexandropolis while 1-2 Constantinople shall entertain the visiting GCU. The Boreal will certainly impact how the Heartland shakes out, and vice versa, so both of our schools will be looking for minimal slipups across the next month.
That was certainly fun...see you in 7 weeks.

The Academy of Space Astronauts

ARENA - "Extaterestrial Dome of Sport".
The dome is constructed of clear plasticized glass allowing a cristal clear view of the stars and planets above. The dome will rotate with respect to its surroundings during matches for enhanced viewing, though any nearby stars (Stars within 2 or fewer Astonomical Units) will remain on the backside of the playing field to prevent glaring and temperature control.

The dome currently has 35,000 permanent seats, with a further 43,000 temporary seating available. The dome is expandable up to over 200,000 seats but there are no plans of this type at the time.

It will be an interesting challenge for the players from opposing nations as the Academy is non terrestrial (Of course, a playing field and gravity are provided, but are isolated to the dome of play itself. The upper dome is clear allowing a view of the solar system). While the team representing Space will surely be the underdog during away matches, it is quietly hoped that they will be able to gain more of a home field advantage than other teams might usually have due to this subtle location difference, and end the season with a respectable recon.

Coach: Cosmo Icii

Cosmo has been coaching the non-competitive team at the Academy of Sport and as far as the board is concerned, the job is Cosmo's regardless of the record, so long as he doesn't embarrass the school. It is possible that many decisions will be made by Spiral Galaxi. Spiral is the long time defensive coordinator for the Academy of Space who was also the Head Coach of the Space team for the World Bowl.

Blake Zuercher PT 2.

The BYU Miners have had another incredible win, and it was a moment of pure joy and celebration for the team, coaches and fans alike. The cheers were heard from far away as the team scored their latest victory. This win marks yet another milestone for the Miners, who have been on an impressive streak of success in the last two games of their first season. It's no wonder that their fans are so passionate about their team! With this win, BYU has once again proven why they can compete as one of the top rookie teams in college football this year around. As it calmed down the players gathered and Blake spoke.. “Dear heavenly father.. We thank you for all you have done for us, guiding us on the right path and keeping us close to our testimonies, and leading us to this win and I am so grateful for the family that is BYU football.” He smiled as he spoke these words. “In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.” With that out of the way and in tradition after a win, they started to chant the abbreviation of their school “BYU, BYU, BYU, BYU!”

After an amazing win, Blake took a step back to check his phone for any messages. To his surprise, he found one from his mom's best friend congratulating him on the victory. This heartfelt message was the perfect way to end the night and it filled him with joy. It was a reminder of the strong relationships he had formed over the years and that even in times of celebration, those relationships still remained strong. Blake was filled with gratitude for being able to share this moment with those who had supported him throughout his journey. After the quick self confidence boost he moved and soon began typing saying “Thank you Miss. Rogers, I really appreciate the compliment! It really does mean a lot to me.” After sending the message off he smiled and continued on his way with his team-mates heading back to campus.

Once the football team arrived back to campus after a game, Blake's teammates said a prayer as they parted ways. However, Blake was headed in a different direction - he wanted to go back to his dorm and relax. This was his routine after each game, taking the time to reflect on the match and decompress. After a quick shower he stepped out and saw his roommate walk into the dorm room, after waving to him Blake laid back on his bed and that's where he started to read his scriptures for the night, that's when his phone went off and he saw it was from Miss. Rogers, his eyebrow perked up as he looked at the text it read “Hello Blake i was wondering if you would like to come over tomorrow for tea? I wanted to talk about this new book I started reading lately.” After Blake finished reading the text he quickly responded “Oh of course! I would love to come over tomorrow Miss Rogers." he softly smiled as he set his phone down to continue his scripture lesson.

Oh no! The Red Elephants (Red square, top left) have forgotten how to do a touchdown again! Can you help them find the end zone (grey blob, bottom right) and also pick up the two apples on the way?

"Dude!"

"Honestly, I don't know what I did."

Boca Rana, San Armando
La Phlor, a boho club with multiple levels
Back alleyway

Two twentysomethings observed the carnage. Antonio, who thought of himself as the more hipster, wore leather sandals and the t-shirt of an obscure grunge band. He had come to the club with a yellow checked flannel, but got hot in the throng of people and ill-advisedly left it on a table somewhere, and by that point he had lost all hope of retrieving it. Out of a cloudy plastic drinking glass he nursed the remnants of a sick-looking green beverage.

"I'm in trouble, man," said Marcel, the other twentysomething. Marcel was out of place in the club — he didn't know what to wear, so he was dressed in a red polo shirt and palm tree board shorts. Marcel would never have come to a place like La Phlor on his own. Marcel and Antonio obviously were not similar enough to befriend each other by natural means, but they were friends because they both went to the same school — and they had the same job.

"Fuckin' Zorro's not gonna have a head!"

"Dude, I don't know."

"Is that the only one?"

Marcel buried his face in his hands. "It's the only one in this city. The other mascot head was sent to wherever basketball's playing, Tatiana travelled with the team."

"Shit, look at it!"

"How did it even get like this?"

The time was 2:15 AM. A few hours earlier, a very drunk Marcel and Antonio and four hot women thought it would be hilarious when, after discovering that Marcel and Antonio were two of three mascots for the UPAM skunk, "Zorro", they also found out that Marcel had Zorro's costume in his little hatchback and decided they must see Marcel try to dance wearing a giant skunk head. Given that mascot heads are notoriously impossible to see out of and that Marcel was inebriated, it ended terribly — the poor guy stumbled around trying to pump his arms and shake his ass, bumped into numerous patrons, got spilled on, knocked over a bartender who splashed an intense specialty drink called "Heart Palpitation" on his head, and fell down the stairs — Marcel rolled from the second floor to the ground level hallway, a dingy and dimly-lit corner full of smokers and vomiting patrons without the willpower to make it through the exit; the details will be spared.

And at that point, Zorro's head was in critical condition.

"I think the fur is dissolving."

"Don't touch it!" Marcel swatted away Antonio's hand, which was scratching at the spot that got hit by Heart Palpitation.

"Man, what are we gonna do?" Antonio picked up the head, which they had set on top of a dumpster, and cradled it gently.

"Where did they get this mascot head? Maybe we can get a new one..."

Antonio gave Marcel a side-eye.

"Maybe we can find one that looks similar enough so they won't notice?"

Antonio smacked his forehead.

"Maybe we can clean it!"

"How the fuck would we clean it," Antonio asked.

"I don't know. Find a laundromat, get some of that heavy-duty stain powder..."

"It's —" Antonio checked his phone, "—2:18. Not a laundromat in the country is open."

"That's ridiculous."

"Wanna bet? If we wait 'til tomorrow, it'll still be too late. It's a nine-o'clock game, we have to get there at 6:30—"

"Well it doesn't fucking matter to you," Marcel said. "You don't even need to actually be there. You're off-duty. You won't take the hit for this."

"Oh, c'mon—"

Marcel picked up the head and stomped away. "I'm going to find a solution."

"You can't even drive!"

"I'll walk." Marcel walked down the street. Antonio chased after him.

"This is—"

"I don't have my phone. I thought it might get stolen if I brought it to the club. Look up a laundromat nearby."

Antonio rolled his eyes as he searched. "It doesn't say anything."

"What?"

"The search bar only lets me input schools, restaurants, coffee, shops, gas stations, supermarkets—"

"You can't, like, type in 'laundry' and something comes up?" The two of them entered a large plaza, devoid of people save a few homeless sleeping on benches.

"Nah. I tried to search for places that have 'laundry' in the name, but I guess nobody does. I tried 'laundry', 'laundromat', 'coin laundry'—"

Marcel whistled shrilly.

"What the hell are you doing?"

He whistled shrilly again. "Taxi!"

"Dude, shut up, it's two am! We're gonna get our asses beat."

Marcel ignored him, as he walked down the street carrying the skunk head and waving his arms. "Taxi! Taxi! Hey taxi!"

Antonio ran over and clapped a hand to Marcel's mouth. "What on earth is wrong with you? I'm not kidding man, we—"

A lumpy silhouette laying down on a low wall sat up carefully. The two froze. Slowly, the silhouette stood up and walked over, rubbing his eyes. It was a homeless man, dressed in a tank top and baggy shorts due to the heat. He was older and hunched over, maybe a foot shorter than both of them.

"You're being annoying," he said. The two didn't say anything, but nodded, still frozen.

"I usually just live and let live. But it's very late. I'm trying to sleep. Some of my friends over there —" he waved an arm "—they're also trying to sleep. Please keep it down." The man turned and began to walk away.

"Sir!" Marcel cried before he could help himself. "Er...sorry to ask you, but...do you know anything about this area? neither of us do, and..."

He thought for a minute. "What are you looking for?"

"Erm...a laundromat."

"I know a laundromat."

"Where?" they asked simultaneously.

"It's called Chow's. I can take you — follow me." The man shuffled over to where he was sleeping, grabbed the few trash bags that contained his possessions, and made his way down the road.

Monster Third Quarter Propels Firehawks Past Lava in Battle for the Eternal Flame

05:29 STU TD - Isaga Duhaga 4 yard run (James Dior Kick)
FIREHAWKS' ROOST, FELSWYR, MOUNTAI DISTRICT, CHROMATIKA - "I didn't even know about Staramara Tech until someone asked me if I had been recruited by them. Why would I need to be, when I had already been contacted by the Firehawks? They're only here because Felswyr State were able to get recognized by the NSCF to a point where Chromatika could apply to have a second school. They thought that after one run to the final, they can be counted as better than the Firehawks, a team that is rivalling the best at the moment? Let's hope that this result sets them straight - they will always play second fiddle to us, and I'm here for the next four years to make sure of that."

Perhaps it was the passion talking, caused by all the adrenaline of having intercepted two passes for touchdowns in the Third Quarter, but Freshman Cornerback Lisa Bonsoon's words rang through the cold Felswyrite night as the Firehawks celebrated a 45-27 victory over the Lava and received the Eternal Flame Trophy for the first time. It was a game of two rivals that have really started to despise each other - perhaps the first true rivalry in Chromatik sports to accept the nasty side of things. Three times, coaches had to stop fights from happening. Twice, it seemed like at least one player would be thrown out of the game from both sides. Five unsportsmanlike penalties were called, three for taunting and two for reckless hits. However, by the end, it was the Firehawks and their forty-two unanswered points that had the last laugh.

Staramara Tech had played a perfect game for the first twenty-five minutes. Duhaga and Ziegler carved up the edges of the Firehawks' defense to score two touchdowns in the first quarter after a three-and-out by the Firehawks, Lucius Agot smothering Odika on third down. Ivan Homer was able to hit a long Field Goal, but with James Dior equaling that in the Second Quarter, the Lava had a fourteen-point lead and looked comfortable.

That was when Kadesh Odika started to get into a groove. Finding Vince Carter for two first downs, the Banijan Junior hooked up with Ulrich Jefferson up the seam before scrambling for fifteen yards. With five seconds left and the ball at the Lava 9, the Firehawks knew that a quick pass was all that they had the time for; Cartier beat Pale, and the Firehawks had closed the lead to seven.

On the second play from scrimmage in the Third Quarter, Haruno Masakazu threw the ball in the direction of Gabriele Ziegler. What he didn't know was that Lisa Bonsoon had figured out his tells by now. The Freshman Corner jumped the route perfectly and high-stepped down the sideline to tie up the game, drawing an unsportsmanlike penalty in the process but causing the home crowd to go nuts. In the ensuing series, Duhaga was stuffed by Theo Nilsen, leading to a punt. Odika wasted no time, hooking up with Cartier for 31 yards and then Jefferson for 20 more before taking the ball himself in from seven yards.

Haruno Masakazu, to his credit, started to lead the Lava on a drive back, utilizing the two backs but also throwing in quick passes here and there. Then, as he was about to cross midfield, a pass to Tight End Osman Pyatt deflected off of the Sophomore's hands, into - who else - Lisa Bonsoon's. Bonsoon had a runback that was one of legend - running by three, juking around another, and ultimately running close to seventy-five yards to traverse the fifty-two needed to score.

Another three-and-out, and Odika found Jefferson for twenty-eight yards and a score. Then, in the Fourth Quarter, Odika found his third touchdown pass of the game, an out route to Nero Ramsey that the speedy Ranorian turned into a touchdown. The Lava would score ten points in garbage time, but it was too little, too late.

Odika finished 20-of-26 for 312 yards and three touchdowns, along with 8 carries for 51 yards and another score. It was the best game of the season for him.

However, the match would always be remembered for Bonsoon's statements, both in and out of game.

For the next four weeks, the Firehawks and Lava face four newcomers in the other division of the Horizon Conference - and will hope to be rolling before they face Drawkland again.

As the horns of war sounded once more, Atheron was called forth to serve Althion as well like he did during the first demonic invasion of the continent. Like before, in a short matter of time, hordes of demonic legions were pouring into the mortal realms and sweeping over Althion. However unlike the previous invasion, the elves and their dragon allies were ready and prepared to face the oncoming onslaught, having been taught the hard lessons of war from the previous encounters. That veterancy gave the allies a stern defense that saw them the masters of the war in its early stages, defeating battalion after battalion that was thrown at their combined forces and crashing upon the walls of their cities. However as the magical energies swirling from the portal, letting the dark magic from where the demons came from into the world and corrupting men and beast alike creating horrors and monsters that were augmenting the ranks of the demonic forces. Every elf who fell was almost irreplaceable, yet the demonic hordes were having their ranks swell even when suffering multiple defeats.

This time, there would be no swift victory for either side, as the new war began to drag on and on despite the elves and draconic victories. Those victories were keeping safe the people but they were not able to turn the momentum into being able to rout the demonic forces off the continent and weeks of war and fighting became months, those months became years, and those years turned into decades of constant conflict across Althion. Heroic victories gave brief respite and even a glimmer of hope, hope that was perhaps foolishly spent sending out expeditions to other continents where it was said that other nations were at war with the demonic host as well. Those expeditions seldom returned and when they did, the brought back confirmation that the rest of the world was battling against the demons and trying to stave off the corruption that their energies and magic was unleashing upon the land like a blight seeking total corruption of everything it came into contact with.

As the years of war raged on, it was starting to become obvious to the elves that they were losing this conflict. Victory on the field was only the slowly the inevitable it seemed, while any defeat suffered hastened them towards the precipice and threatened to send them over the edge. For a people who had once known only peace, tranquility, and the harmonization with the lands around them, everlasting conflict was having a heavy toll on their morale and psyche. In short, the elves were starting to become exhausted and depressed, a fear that there would be no victory through force of arms, and even Atheron was feeling the toll of the years of war. Meanwhile their foe showed no signs at all of any war weariness or loss of morale, their ranks seemed stronger now than even when they began the invasion decades prior. When they attacked, they went without fear in a relentless almost reckless pursuit of their prey, deadly to a fault and without any sense of mercy to any poor elf who was captured by their forces.

Yet even on the edge of a perceived annihilation, there was still a few who carried the embers of hope for the elven people. The great and wise mage Kelembor had come up with an idea on how to battle the demonic threat after years of experimentation lead him to find out that magical barriers put up from before the elves had come to Althion had kept the portal open just enough to allow the natural flow of magic into the world. Those barriers had collapsed or waned over time and their complete collapse is what had allowed the second attempt by the demonic hordes to bring their corruption and war to Althion. Kelembor had a plan that would gather these corrupting energies and magics that were being spread and return them back from whence they came, however if it was successful it ran the risk of removing magic completely from the world or perhaps even exploding into an uncontrollable vortex. It was a gamble, but it was on that he and the fellow mages thought was worth it, although Atheron was opposed to the idea even if he began to believe the war was unwinnable. During a debate between the two respected leaders, a teary eyed messenger would bring news that would change the course of fate for Althion and Nagarythe.

4th quarter, 3:57 on the clock
Richardson 7 - 13 Cold Hill
Richardson football

Benoit had watched his counterpart on the Governors guide a lethal drive down the field - without Rylan Rodgers Jr, it appeared that this coaching staff was much more willing to lean on the arm of their second year quarterback. And Isaiah Hunter showed that he was so, so much more than the game manager the critics had so often branded him as. It'd be Constantina Perrier snagging a high bullet pass at the back of the end zone, so high in fact it almost looked like it had been intended as a throw away, for Richardson to finally take their first lead of the game.

Youngblood was unphased, eyes flicking over to the man who'd become his constant companion at the university. “We’re gonna need another six, Kaz,” he looked over to his freakishly large wideout, who nodded.

"Any fool can see they've been the better team, at least so far," Kasozi Batte almost growled, "But we will defeat them. When the dust settles we'll be the ones walking away with the Big 8 crown."

“Bingo,” the Quebecois superstar affirmed. “Let’s go break some hearts, men.” Benoit flashed Chris Dale a thumbs up - there was no way he was losing this game. Richardson may have had a 6'5" freak to throw to, but so did he, and his had already scored the only touchdown Richardson had allowed this season.

Their Worst Nightmare - Youngblood Makes it 3-1 Against Buffalo's Archrival, Wins In Dietrich Once Again
Image
In his second season starting, Benoit Youngblood's calling card has become his success against a championship-caliber defense that's given the likes of Anne-Maurice Vivayavich fits

In Kasen Harrowitz’s first season, he led this team to a 12-1 record, sweeping Cold Hill and helping in a big way to keep them out of the playoffs for the first time since NSCF 17. Last year, he won an NSCF championship - but Benoit Youngblood turned the tables on the recent history of this rivalry, helping the Buffalo go 2-0 in conference play against Richardson to make it 2-2 in the Harrowitz era. The Governors, for all their vaunted defense, just couldn’t figure the kid out, as he put up more and more points on them with each game they played, including a 42 point losing effort in the semifinal.

And that performance, well, Benoit seems to have held a grudge.

The Richardson defense was off to another fantastic start, having already pitched a shutout in their opening two showings, and of course Benoit Youngblood was the hero of the story again.

The Buffalo scored on their opening drive, with Kasozi Batte beating Takeuchi Ichiko on a deep post route that gave the Banijan sophomore the only touchdown Richardson had conceded this season, and that put them in the hole early. After Youngblood had swept the Governors in conference play last season, it was far from an ideal start, and it would only get worse. Rylan Rodgers Jr looked electric at the start, back juking on an attempted hit stick from Cold Hill linebacker Derek Pierce and quickly getting himself a 27 yard gain to kick off their opening drive. “The Butler” had been off to a wild start to the season, showcasing he could be a lead back after flashing so much potential as a freshman, and the Buffalo defense was certainly having flashbacks of his 247 yard, 4 touchdown performance in that fateful semifinal.

Derek Pierce took care of that, though. When he caught Rylan this time, the young man tried to run through him only for cornerback Nicholas Hussain to dive at his legs. Rylan's ankle was caught when the rest of his body fell, and in that brief instant that he lost concentration, Pierce found the ball and punched it out - with Kenneth Bray near the ball, the linebacker was able to scoop it up and get it all the way back to the fifty yard line.

Rylan didn't get up fast - the Richardson faithful held their breath as they awaited an update after he was helped, limping, off the field, but Youngblood wasn't so patient.

He faked an handoff to the inept D’andre Fuller, but immediately went over the top - as any good quarterback does in a sudden change situation - this time to Darin Sundström on a deep crosser. It was a forced pass though, and CB Karl Fortis was in position to make a play on it. Fortunately, the senior Vanorian wideout recognized that it was an errant throw and made an effort to break it up more than to catch it, and all was well.

Worth a shot - the Governors proceeded to allow two first downs, but their freshman linebacker Kerron Nicholas batted down a third down pass to force a field goal. Ten zip, nothing insurmountable - until the news came in that Rylan had no chance of returning in this game, high ankle sprain. Freshman Benjamin Merik would be taking the led role, and while the 6'7" freak is far from a pushover, it's too much to expect him to dominate the way Rylan did a year ago.

Regardless, Isaiah Hunter showed his stuff - neither team scored throughout the rest of the half, but the Governors could not catch a break. Fourth and goal run from the one stuffed by Kerron Nicholas. Big pass to Dustin van Halfensen to get inside the 19 yard line, only for consecutive holding calls followed by a Kenneth Bray sack to lead to a long - and missed - field goal attempt. Oh right, and then when Hunter did drive in close enough for a chip shot, Tommy Black pushed the kick wider than your mother to the left, going to 0 for 2 on the day.

The Chromatik sophomore, and reigning NSCF champion quarterback, was putting up his yards - but the football gods just were not having it today.

That changed in the second half. On their opening drive, freshman runner Benjamin Merik took a screen pass for nine yards, falling forward and letting his six foot seven frame pick up an extra couple. A quick play action fake, and Hunter took a rare opportunity to dial up a target deep. Who else but Constantina Perrier? The pass was just a bit outside the sidelines, few college passers are proficient at those outside the numbers throws after all, but fortunately the 6’5” veteran had the coordination to grab it from beyond the field of play and pick up a 63 yard gain. Three plays later, Hunter would hit South Newlandian tight end Dustin van Halfensen on a quick out route, and he turned upfield to pick up one more yard to score.

Hunter had already thrown more passes in this game than he had the rest of the season combined - and even when the Buffalo tacked on another field goal late, it was clear that his defense was going to give him a chance to win this game.

Hunter led a heroic drive late in the fourth quarter, connecting again with Constantina Perrier for another six to take a slim 14-13 lead - at least Tommy Black had been good for his PATs today.

But for those who aren’t aware, as cracked as Benoit Youngblood is, these clutch scenarios are what he lives and breathes for. In his first three collegiate starts, he struggled to put up points, but mounted a game winning drive in the end of each of them before really hitting his stride in week four. He'll put up gaudy numbers in this ridiculously aggressive offense for days- most quarterbacks not named Robin Sterling could. But when he outshines any other passer at this level is when his team needs to score. This would be no different.

The ninety plus thousand strong Governor faithful in attendance could only watch in horror as he connected on throw after throw, earning his team a first down each time he dropped back, mercilessly piecing apart the most terrifying eleven man unit in the NSCF. As deep as Richardson’s cornerback room was, they couldn’t all cover perfectly on every play, and when you have a room comprised of a freak in Kasozi Batte, a behemoth in Enox Silverman, and the ever reliable, shifty Darin Sundström, it just gets hard to stop them.

Sundström would come close to ending it - Totte Lindberg tripped him up at the ten and momentum got him to the three before he hit the ground with under a minute to play.

A lot of teams would run here. Cold Hill knew damn well that D’andre Fuller, who was still under 3.7 yards a pop on the year, wasn’t getting anywhere against the best defense in the sport.

Now, Kasozi Batte? Probably.

Image
Benoit Youngblood after tossing his second touchdown
of the day to lift his team to a victory
It really wasn’t Takeuchi Ichiko’s fault. Batte faked an out before cutting in, and Ichiko stuck to his hip, never biting- he just wasn’t fast enough. Batte only had an inch on him, but with Ichiko positioned behind, Benoit put the ball where his favorite target would have to lay out to get it, and with his speed advantage, Ichiko just never had a chance to make a play on it. The entire stadium made their dismay known when the signal went up, the Chromatik corner clutching his helmet in his hands while Batte stood and pounded his chest in triumphant fashion.

The game wasn’t over - but with the Buffalo running prevent up 20-14, Isaiah Hunter was only able to connect on a few check downs before the score was official. Cold Hill had swept Richardson in 3 of the 4 prior seasons of regular season play and despite an anomaly in NSCF 26, they were well on their way to make it 4 of 5. For all of Kasen Harrowitz’s masterminding, and all the talented players on this defense, they just can’t put together the puzzle that can perplex this superstar in the making at quarterback. After Harrowitz started 2-0 against Richardson’s domestic rival, and without a loss at home in his first season, Youngblood has drawn them even at 3-3, and is real responsible for both of Richardson’s regular season home losses during Kasen Harrowitz’s tenure.

"Crazy to me, haven't these guys been the top ranked team officially and in all the power rankings so far this season?" Youngblood told reporters after the game, "They're the reigning champs, power to 'em, but people forget we won the Big 8, and that we beat them twice last year."

Of course, the Buffalo faltered against the Governors when it mattered most - but the running back that carried his team to that victory is now out for an unknown stretch. Rylan Rodgers Jr was the engine of this offense - and if he's out for an extended period of time, we're going to find out just how good Isaiah Hunter is very quickly.

These are the government Teams

What are the foundations of government is an important question. It is important to have a strong foundation. I play offensive line and I am important to our foundation. This is like political science where we need to understand the foundation.

I play college football, I know how different teams have different strategies like governments do. There are democracy, which is when every person gets a vote no matter what. This is weak, who are these people? There are monarchy, which is when a father passes the head coach role to his son. This is weak, who are these people? There are oligarchy, which is when a small group of people is the boss. This is weak, who are these people?

Then there are strongman government. This is when a strong man is in charge. I am a football player, so I am a strong man. If you are strong, you make good decisions. This is like President Mihaly, he is a strong man.

Each of these teams has a different strategy, rules that make things work. Some of them have referees, like a judge branch or lots of guys in suits in things called chambers, but just like in football, those referees are usually corrupt.

If I were to make a government, I would make it like a football team. There would be the quarterback, who makes decisions and passes the ball to get things going. There would be the offensive line, which is me. We would help screen issues to protect the quarterback. There would be a halfback, who can get progress on an issue no matter what, even if it was just a yard when you wanted ten. There would be wide receivers, who would always try to get 100% completion on their attempts and get many yards of progress. There would be tight ends, they can block issues or get me short progress or go long for a policy hail mary like a wide receiver. The defense would all be military. As a strong man, it is important to be strong. The kickers would be the doctors because they always save us.

I am a football player so I know what it means to be part of a team. A government is like a big team made up of the people. I am happy this class helps me understand why this is important.

5. Université St. Croix (Quebec) - Woodlands
Alright, you have our attention. The St. Croix defense has been on a mission this season and they are doing a darn fine job of nearly keeping teams from having any real ability to score, allowing their offense to not even have to be explosive in order to get the victories. Will that sort of imbalance be to their detriment further down the line and into the out of conference play? Perhaps. Yet with a week chock full of upsets, getting the job done has been easier said than done and for that St. Croix get into the top five for how well they have been able to simply go out and get victories in the first three weeks of the new season.

4. Felswyr State University (Chromatika) - Horizon
Welcome back to the top five Firehawks, who absolutely put the beat down on the Lava this week in the sort of display that leaves you quite stunned and not wanting to take your eyes off of the game. It was a bad week for the two teams who played in the championship game last season and in the Battle for the Eternal Flame, the FIrehawks were simply superior in every way imaginable and put on a near perfect game. They had dropped out of the top five for their inability to have a statement game and look confident in their victories, this week changes all of that.

3. Cold Hill (Ranoria) - Big Eight
Beating your national rival, that is sort of a big deal. Beating them when they have been the best team in the NSCF and are the current holders of the title, well that is more than a big deal, especially when you do it on the road at their place. Cold Hill seems to be exacting their revenge on their Ranoria based rivals and throwing a spanner in the works for the thoughts that Richardson had at having a repeat performance from last season in lifting the crown. Cold Hill is good, there was never any denying that fact but that they just put the current champions in their place at Richardson is a whole another level and definitely raises the bar for later in the season when Richardson will come knocking at their place.

2. Mar Sara Tech (Valanora) - Zephyr
The Raiders got to host the first edition of the Battle for the Royal Saber this season and it was another game for the ages between the Raiders and Rockets. Raynor came into Mar Sara looking to steal the division lead from their Vanorian counterparts, but defeating the Raiders at home is an almost impossible task and with the home side able to edge out the Rockets by four points, it proved their conference title potential. However the Raiders have to be dreaming bigger than just a divisional or conference title with the way that they have come out of the gate winning their first three games, knowing that if you get on a hot streak anything is possible after watching Raynor lose their opening two games a few seasons ago before never losing again until they won the championship. Dare the Raiders dream of a perfect season and perhaps the greatest of all comeback years after their season away? The next few months looking to be quite interesting for the fans of the red and black.

1. Green City University (TJUN-ia) - Mineral
Are they the best team in the NSCF at the moment? It is a hard question to try and figure out with all of the upsets that have happened this week and with non conference still nearly two months way, but they have looked the best so far with the eye test. Like the Raiders of Mar Sara, the Royal Eagles benefit from the rest of the top five laying an egg this week and now the onus will be on them to try and defend their position at the top of the heap. It is quite a different and difficult situation to turn from those who are doing the hunting to those that are then being hunted and if you are able to make that transition and hold strong, it really shows the mental toughness that a team possesses that could see them into becoming a frontrunner for a title.

Saguenay head coach Benoit V.E. Youngblood remains positive, quashes pro and national team rumours once more after devastating home loss to St. Croix

Jorge Antonio Saez

SOUTH BEND, SAGUENAY-Even on a historic loss at home to one of their biggest rivals, Saguenay Fighting Irish's Coach Clem appears more positive than devastated about it all.

In middle of an eventful but largely positive start to the 28th NationStates College Football spring season, Clement van Eeden Youngblood said that the state of the program, while ever changing and unpredictable with the nature of college football, is healthy and that they are in a position to contend once again in the fall.

'Having a good spring ball season, one that will see us face off against familiar foes in Schima Bas and many powerhouse schools abroad, is imperative to a success in the QIS, and in future seasons,' said Youngblood on the post-match press conference held in the Conference Room of Saguenay's on-campus, Stade Schwartz. 'So far the start's looked good, but more has to be done in the way we perform against bigger schools as we, outside of the semifinals run four years ago and a win here, at home, against Staramara Tech two years ago, have not really proven ourselves.'

As for the St. Croix game, which had ended in a clearcut 6-31 defeat, Youngblood decided not to say much, nor to play particular blame on his players or refereeing.

'We did not play like how we should have played, end of story,' said Youngblood when asked about the match. 'Nothing had gone right, all had gone wrong. But we cannot dwell upon that.'

The loss, Saguenay's first of the season but a painful one after two consecutive rivalry wins on the QIS stage, has brought interesting challenges as the Fighting Irish starting quarterback, Ernest Bello, was sidelined for the second half following a calf injury. Bello, widely considered to be a top-10 draft pick in the QFL in June, shortly after the end of the NSCF postseason, is expected to take a couple of games off to recover.

'Injuries happen, and we are not going to risk our starting quarterback reaggravate a calf injury,' Youngblood said about the situation. 'Hyeong-Seok [Gong] and J.P. [Moretti] will split time on the Q, and we'll let life handle it on its own.'

The start of this season also brings an interesting perspective to the 56-year-old, who is now entering his seventh season with the team. The two-time Tiger Bowl champion has won all forms of accolades as head coach, first in the high school level with leading Dexter Ahn's Walton High School to state fourpeat, then as a defensive coordinator at none other than St. Croix, where he brought a Tiger Bowl while coaching multiple all-Quebecois.

Then, after thirteen years with Yongma College, the Pahkatequayang, Mahan, native has accepted the position. Since then, with Saguenay program continuing to maintain good standings both in footballing and non-footballing terms, the speculations for Youngblood's future have been ongoing with professional and national team offers, some of which include Attawapiskat Broncos and Saint John Steelers. Youngblood, for most part, has stayed away from the speculations, opting to remain at Saguenay on last three offseasons.

'I will be here as long as the Fighting Irish needs and wants me here,' said Youngblood to close out the press conference. 'I mean, we are well into the offseason and it's March. If I wanted to leave for those teams..Broncos, Steelers or even (Jolbonopolis) Raiders I would have told y'all about that in December or January. But then it's nothing new, for I ain't a Brian Kelly or Urban Meyer.

'But what matters is that we keep on chasing for the win, both with the NSCF and the Tiger Bowl, and I believe that we have a good enough squad, with strong coaching staff, to pull it through. Now it is up to me to not disappoint my players, my superiors and the fans.'

Led by an outstanding offensive line, a pair of tight ends, and highly-regarded front seven, Saguenay is expected to contend for the Woodlands conference title and a playoff berth in the NationStates College Football's twenty-eighth edition this spring season. The Fighting Irish, after a six-win season two years ago where they had experienced all forms of inconsistencies, have tasted success not too long ago, having made the semifinals of said competition with then-freshman Bello leading their way.

'We have our brand of football and ride with that.' he said.

Hankow State rounds into form in home debut ahead of critical rivalry matchup

Image
In front of a sold out Celebration Field crowd, the Honey Badgers took care of business in Week 3, dispatching Universidade de Soria in a wire-to-wire 36-13 victory.

Behind brilliant performances on both sides of the football, Hankow State dominated in their home debut against Universidade de Soria, delivering a 36-13 victory where the result never really felt in doubt. It was exactly the type of performance fans had been clamoring for during the first division window of the season, and the Honey Badgers will carry a 2-1 record into interdivision play. "We've all been trying to get that sort of performance all season," head coach Lee Chapman said, "and now we know it can be done. I think you got a good glimpse of just how great these guys play when they're on their A-game. Right now, our job is to make sure we bring that same intensity every week for the rest of the season."

QB Willie Gordon continued what has been a sizzling start to the season, notching a couple of passing touchdowns and another rushing touchdown in another commanding offensive performance. With 9 TDs on the season so far (7 pass, 2 rush), Gordon seems to be stepping into a more prominent role in an offense that had previously relied on smashmouth schemes spearheaded by strong work out of the backfield. That said, RB Mark Dyer finally got his season going, breaking off for a monster 36 yard TD in the middle of the 3rd quarter. "It's always good to get that first one, you know?" Dyer said after the game. "I think we've really got something special on this side of the football, and it's great to be able to contribute in any way that I can."

Perhaps most notably, the vaunted Hankow State defense made a huge return to form, shutting down a far less experienced Soria offense that struggled to find any sort of rhythm during the game. Sophomore DE Hector Banks made his presence felt, hurrying the Soria QB and adding 3 sacks to his name when all was said and done. When asked about the defensive performance, defensive coordinator Caleb Franks could barely contain his excitement, stating, "Man, I can't tell you how proud I am of these guys. They've been hungry for a game like this all season, so to see them take this opportunity and make the most of it...it's just really special to watch."
HSU vs. Soria Scoring Summary

Quarter 1:
(9:41 - 1st) QB Willie Gordon 9 yard scramble for a TOUCHDOWN. Lewis Love PAT is GOOD. 7-0, HSU leads.
(1:17 - 1st) QB Willie Gordon 41 yard pass to WR Leon Wyatt for a TOUCHDOWN. Lewis Love PAT is GOOD. 14-0, HSU leads.

Quarter 2:
(8:38 - 2nd) Soria K 37 yard field goal is GOOD. 14-3, HSU leads.
(0:00 - 2nd) K Lewis Love 53 yard field goal is GOOD. 17-3, HSU leads.

Quarter 3:
(10:57 - 3rd) RB Mark Dyer 36 yard run for a TOUCHDOWN. Lewis Love PAT is GOOD. 24-3, HSU leads.
(7:16 - 3rd) Soria K 29 yard field goal is GOOD. 24-6, HSU leads.
(2:26 - 3rd) QB Willie Gordon 17 yard pass to Leslie Mueller for a TOUCHDOWN. 2 point conversion FAILS (RB Mark Dyer rush up the middle). 30-6, HSU leads.

Quarter 4:
(12:11 - 4th) K Lewis Love 47 yard field goal is GOOD. 33-6, HSU leads.
(6:58 - 3rd) Soria RB 2 yard run for a TOUCHDOWN. Soria K PAT is GOOD. 33-13, HSU leads.
(1:17 - 4th) K Lewis Love 31 yard field goal is GOOD. 36-13, HSU leads.

FINAL: Hankow State - 36, Universidade de Soria - 13

Time will tell just how effective these changes have been on both sides of the football, as Hankow State now prepares for a rivalry matchup with Northern Moravica in the Battle for the Golden Axe. In what has been a storied rivalry, the two squads have split their matchups with each other 3-3, with Northern Moravica serving as the current holders of the Golden Axe. "We know they're coming into this game hungry coming off of a tough loss to their in-country rivals," head coach Lee Chapman said, "so we know they're gonna be playing harder than ever. Rivalry matchups are never easy, especially in such a tough road environment, but we're gonna do everything we can to keep them starving and bring the Golden Axe back to Hankow."

The talk all comes to a head this Saturday when the Honey Badgers travel to Herzegovina City as both teams seek to stay competitive in their division races. A loss at this point could prove costly for both teams, and the stakes are as high as they've been thus far in the season. With such a slim margin for error, both squads are certain to be on their A-game with a QB duel between Felix Ström and Willie Gordon on the cards in a critical Week 4 matchup.

Image@VickHamiltonReporter Richardson star running back Rylan Rodgers Jr expected to miss at least four weeks with a sprained MCL and a high ankle sprain he suffered against Cold Hill. Benjamin Merik will be the starting running back in his stead. #Governors #NSCF28

The Misadventures of Rylan Rodgers
Tidbit 3: The ankle that broke the camel's back

Rylan Rodgers Jr held his book straight overhead, grimacing while his trusty snow bear Klaw rested his massive chin on his chest. "Hey buddy," Rylan scratched his adopted best friend behind the ear, and Klaw responded by grabbing his hand in his mouth and nibbling - Isaiah Hunter's suspicion that the little guy was trying to eat his arm when he was a cub were certainly proven wrong by now. At just over a year old, Klaw was already larger than any lineman on their team - if he wanted to eat them, he would have. Isaiah Hunter wasn't far off, watching film while Rylan studied in their spacious athletic dorm.

There was a knock on the door, and Klaw turned his attention towards the door, nearly pulling the injured running back off the couch when he turned his head.

"Watch it buddy! Sheesh!" Rylan laughed, "Come on in babe!"

Another single, heavier knock, "The door's locked again!" A muffled voice came from behind. Now, that was a dilemna. Rylan had no intention of getting off his couch, with his injured ankle elevated and iced. "Rylan!" The voice said insistently.

"I've got it, I've got it," Isaiah Hunter came into view from where he'd sat in their dorm's kitchen, nose buried in a tablet as he watched film, and opened the door without actually looking up. "I'm not normally a rule breaker, but why not make a copy of your key for her? She practically lives here."

"Hi Edda!" Rylan wriggled the fingers of his still trapped arm, and Klaw grumbled his own greeting.

Edda, her jet-black hair nearly reaching her waist, sauntered in with her usual dead eyes and plastered frown. Klaw perked his ears up, anticipating his usual scratches when she came over, but his shoulders sagged when she turned her attention to her boyfriend's leg. Rather than ask him to make room, she grabbed him by his swollen ankle.

"Ow ow ow Edda what the hell!?" Rylan winced as she dropped his leg off the couch and turned her eyes to him. "That hurt! I'd have moved for you." She didn't respond, eyes examining up and down his body, briefly stopping over his neck, then met his eyes. She sighed without moving her lips. Rylan smirked - he was used to being the jovial, outgoing, impulsive one in their relationship, just as he was in his friendship with Isaiah Hunter. "What's on your mind, pretty?"

"We're breaking up." There was no emotion in her voice, no movement in her body to indicate it. Very matter of fact.

Rylan's smile flickered, but he forced a laugh, "Good one, seriously, what's up?"

She stood back up, pursing lips covered in black makeup, and pointed to his ankle, "Soft tissue injury. I'm pre-med you dolt, that kind of thing lends itself to re-injury, and that means being with you in the long run isn't as lucrative. And as for the status I get from dating a star athlete," she brushed off some of Klaw's white hairs from her skirt, "The basketball team has a pretty promising freshman, they've really attacked recruiting after getting swept by Loyola-Istria and he's bound to go pro. We've been talking."

Rylan's jaw dropped, "Wh-while we were together?" he almost whimpered. Klaw's eyes flicked over to his owner, and he nibbled on his arm a couple times to comfort him.

"Yep, had to be proactive with it," Edda examined her nails - perfectly manicured and again, jet black. "Also, your dreads are gross and Klaw is pretty much your only redeeming quality now that your athletic career is basically over. My dark attire and his lighter coloring made a great contrast for photo ops." Her eyes went up to meet his again, narrowing, “And you’re not funny. This bubbly little demeanor of yours was only tolerable when you were a lock for tens of millions.”

Rylan didn't say anything, his arm now dripping with snow bear saliva, staring at the woman who'd just torn his heart out in brutal fashion. Even Klaw didn't break the silence - that honor would go to Isaiah Hunter, dropping his tablet in absolute shock. Rylan still didn't speak, and Edda's eyes flicked from Hunter, to Klaw, to Rylan, who was still to stunned to speak. Klaw, of course, had no idea what was going on, so he made no protests.

Fortunately, Isaiah Hunter is a good friend - the bookish, introverted quarterback cleared his throat. "Get out."

Edda's eyes snapped up to him, and narrowed. "Excuse me?"

"Leave, you're done here," he said with more venom than he could ever legitimately muster.

Edda snickered, spun on her heel, and walked right out, slamming the door to their dorm when she left.

Rylan groaned, tossing his free arm over his head, and Klaw echoed his sentiment when he realized he wasn't getting any scratches from his beloved Edda.

"Sorry Rylan," Isaiah Hunter had walked over to pat his friend's shoulder, "I really thought you had a keeper there." He held a fish out for their snow bear, "Here ya go buddy, I know that was hard for you, too."

Klaw finally released Rylan's arm and snatched at the fish, almost taking a potentially career-ending chunk out of Hunter's hand in his excitement.

"Man first there was that girl with the baby, thought she'd be a sweetheart after she told me she had a kid..."

Isaiah finished for him, "Then she used you as a babysitter so she could go on another date."

Rylan waved his arm around as he put his ankle back up on the arm of the couch to elevate it, "And then the girl that wanted me to be a stay at home dad instead of pursuing my football career..."

"Yeah they weren't your best bet," Isaiah sighed, "Edda and you were together for almost a year though right? I really thought she'd stick." Without the running back’s prompting, he grabbed the ice pack Edda had knocked off his ankle and brought it to their freezer to swap it out for a new one, "You'll bounce back, buddy." He tilted his head when he said that thought, realizing he'd said that right after Rylan had sprained his ankle as well.

"Man I can't let this one go so easy. I've gotta try to get her back."

Isaiah Hunter cringed when he placed the ice pack, and shrugged, "I'm not sure that's the best idea but uh...listen to your heart?

Egrets ball out in Ratzupalfu

Heading into the season, it was clear that Ratzupalfu would not be having many easy games. Even with the Jungledrom in play, a schedule featuring eight road games, four Banija matchups, as well as road games at Upper Westside, Hankow and Staramara is not a very conducive environment for a sub-.500 all-time squad to win. This means that the slightly easier matchups become all the more important. Hosting the 1-2 newcomer RNA Mariners is one such perceived easy game, and even though they are a squad that has looked pretty legit so far, they stood no chance in the Jungledrom.
Eight touchdowns are a huge statement as part of a 59-16 drubbing inflicted mostly by Zamandi Ayana, who rumbled for 267 yards and a trio of touchdowns, while adding a receiving touchdown. And he did all that in the first three quarters, with the Egrets having enough of a lead that neither Zamandi Ayana nor quarterback Kasozi Wampona even had to go out there in the final fourth.
Backup QB Rico Divalles made the most of the opportunity. The Chromatik sophomore had hoped for the starting role, but the higher upside of the Banijan simply could not be ignored. Instead, he has been limited to mop-up duty thus far – after two drives, one of them a field goal, one of them to end the game against EVU, he got an extended look this time. Even without Ayana in the backfield, the Chromatik made the most of his opportunities, leading a pair of scoring drives to add onto the score.
To be fair, Wampona also played an excellent game, tossing three touchdown passes and rushing for a fourth, while not tossing any picks. In a game that, by Ratzupalfu standards, was relatively dry, with only a light drizzle, the Egrets managed to not turn the ball over at all, while the Mariners lost three fumbles and threw one interception, giving the Egrets plenty of short fields to work with.
Also deserving of a shoutout is kicker Kevin Han. He attempted to put the ball between the sticks nine times, and succeeded all nine times. Granted, next to the eight XP attempts, his only field goal was a 28-yarder, and while it was drizzling, there was basically no wind, but it was still a very impressive performance.
The 43-point margin is a new school-record win for the Egrets, as are 59 points scored – both are, in fact, national records as well, with the latter just narrowly inching out a 58-44 score, accomplished by EVU against ULI. The win improves the Egrets to 3-1, as well as 22-23 all time, giving them an opportunity to pull even in that department in the next game, hosting Universidade de Soria. However, this will also be their second-to-last home game of the year, with the difficult part of the schedule fast approaching.

Backo-to-Back Bunyoro Heart Attack
Week 6: University of Bunyoro Triceratopses 40–38 Nsade State University Fighting Hogs
Week 7: North Hangaza University Bullfrogs 27–28 University of Bunyoro Triceratopses

Talk about a team that's big into close games! Talk about game of the week- but really, they had the game of the week both weeks. They entered this period at only 2-3, remember, after 5 weeks. They were projected for a mid-table conference finish, but naturally, the Triceratopses have ambitions beyond that. "We're a playoff team." Said their head coach, boldly, after their week 6 stunning win over Nsade State. "We've just got to prove it on the field- and damnit, we're going to do that or die trying."

Who coached here for a single season before going to the riches of the RFL? That's right- the man himself, Dennis Zervos. What heights they reached in that singular season. This Nsade State game, was absolutely insane. Back and forth, defense seemingly completely optional. Teams scoring touchdown after touchdown. The Triceratopses, after going down 38-24 with just four minutes left in the fourth quarter, ripping off one of the most insane comebacks you've ever seen. Scoring a TD with 2 and a half minutes left, getting the PAT, recovering the onside kick, and then scoring again with just 50 seconds left- only to boink the ensuing PAT off of the upright. 38-37. They could not recover a second straight onside kick, but they had all three timeouts. They got the three and out, getting the football back with about 24 seconds left, down just 1, at their own 22.

You need a miracle at that point, right? No timeouts for them, remember. And they got one- Nsade State forgot to cover the middle of the field, and they hit a 50 yard strike, straight down the middle, to get to the 28 yard line of Nsade State. All in one play. Just a couple of plays later, their kicker nailed a 45 yarder, as time expired, to upset Nsade State, and the fans stormed the field. Heart-attack inducing win- what a day.

The same type of drama they'd have the very next week. It would be the fourth year junior CB, Wanzala Ssemeere, who would have such a massive impact on this game. A first quarter pick six. Knockdowns throughout the game. It was a back and forth type of game. Only touchdowns in this one, however- the Triceratopses missed a 3rd quarter field goal, while Ssemeere would block a North Hangaza field goal attempt in the fourth quarter. It came all the way down to the game's very final play. 28-21 to U of B. 4 seconds left- North Hangaza has the ball at their own 48. They've got to throw a Hail Mary- and in stunning fashion, they hit it. Receiver leaps above the crowd. Stadium goes wild.

Bullfrogs are going to push their luck. They don't want to extend the game- they try to win it on a 2 point conversion, straight away. But Ssemeere steps up, once again. He makes an incredible diving pass breakup on the 2PC, to end the game and give the Triceratopses their second straight, final play, heartstopping. 4-3, and 3-2 in conference. The possibilities!

Upset of the Week
Thabiso University Giraffes 41–34 Sankt Adelheid University Sea Eagles

Talk about a major upset! Sankt Adelheid, just a few weeks ago, went to the house of the #1 team in the country and beat them, by 8 points. Sitting at 3-1 overall(2-0 in conference), a major contender for the Southern Shango Conference crown. They had a solid, 24-10 home win over North Anole to move to 4-1(3-0). Then, they traveled to Thabiso U. Should have been an easy win, right? Thabiso were 0-4 in conference entering the game, and 1-5 overall. A pretty bad team, whose season is long lost. But this is college football, right? Nothing like a team with a long lost season just derailing your dreams?

Sankt Adelheid has never won this conference in gridiron(admittedly, they've spent most of their existence at the DI level as an independent, only joining the SSC 12 years ago). But with a road win over Kizza I College, this was inherently possible this season, right? Could've been an insane season in the south. But the Teus Catholic school has to understand how tough it is to win a conference like this. They have to bring it every single week- games like these, that you look over, are classic trap games. And they got into a shootout with the Giraffes- the exact type of game they hate playing.

They want to play ball control, and rely on their defense. They've got Qs at QB, but an elite defensive line, and a strong OL. But the defense fell far behind- and the Sea Eagles could never catch up. Down 17-0 after a quarter, the Sea Eagles could never really get back in it. They only had the ball with a chance to tie with 32 seconds left- finally getting a key fourth quarter stop, and getting the ball back down 7- but in a near impossible situation, only at their own 12 yard line. There would be no miracle on the plains for the Sea Eagles- their QB threw an interception, and one kneeldown later, it would be the Giraffes fans storming the field. Hugely disappointing, and surely consequential, loss for the Sea Eagles.

Most Impressive Result of the Week
University of Aksum Silverbacks 58–16 Moravica A&M Centaurs

Think about how in the NSCF, Dennis Zervos and the Blue Thunder's shock upset win over NMU saved their season. Think of this in a similar context(although, I guess, without an archrival). Moravica A&M have been the talk of the town the last few weeks. Taking Kizza I College to triple OT- and then, ripping off four wins in a row after that. They look like a high-quality team, one that can not only reach the playoffs, but do damage once there. And then, the University of Aksum. Hugely disappointing start. Preseason number one, and now, they're sitting at just .500, and unranked.

Road losses to North Ankole and Igara U have made this season a disaster so far for the Silverbacks. But they needed something to go right- anything- to get this season back on track. And they did just that. The Silverbacks invited the Centaurs into town, and absolutely bulldozed them- one of the most impressive blowouts of the season, a 58-16 shellacking. One of those rare games where they simply scored on every single possession. Seven touchdowns(six on the ground), and three field goals, to get to 58 points. HB Muhoozi Lwako was insane, rushing for 242 yards and 4 TDs in one of the most complete performances of the season.

"Look- the start to the season was rough, but U of A- fuck it, we're back." Said Lwako after the game. "You heard it here first- we're winning out, and we're winning that conference trophy. The N-9 should fear- Aksum is here." With a 22-13 away win over Kocasun Lake the very next week, the 4-2(3-1) Silverbacks find themselves at the top of the N-9 here around the halfway point of the season.

Top 3 most surprising teams in the first half of the season
Bunyoro A&M(6-1)

There's only one team in the country with 6 wins- and that team is Bunyoro A&M. A basketball school picked to finish sixth in the Southern Shango Conference, they've stunned all observers with this strong start. Playing a balanced, ball control offense, with a talented secondary, has allowed this team to pick up win after win. They were the first team in the country to six wins, of course by starting 6-0. And remain the only one with 6 wins, despite just suffering their first loss of the season- a tough 15-12 loss to the University of Ankole on the road, a game where they could only manage four field goals.

Could the Waterbucks, at this basketball school, really make a run not only for the SSC, but for a national title? The SSC is much more wide open than anyone could have possibly expected. They've still got to play both their hated rivals in the Sea Eagles, however, as well as Kizza I College. There's plenty of season left. But it's already been a success, considering their low expectations going into this.

Lesedi Rhinos(5-2)

Lesedi U are on a four game winning streak, including an important upset over Hangaza Tech, and at the halfway point, sit at 5-2. They are competitors to win the KRC and make the postseason, and the Rhinos have deserved this moment. Led by their superstar 6'4 WR Olupot Lumbuyé, they're scoring nearly 34 points per game, just blitzing teams on offense. He's the national leader so far in touchdown receptions(8 through 7 games), as well as #2 in receiving yards(699), and #4 in receptions(71). An all around elite WR talent, and he's allowing his team to blitz opponents and score points at incredible rates.

Can they actually win the conference? The Kuanen River Conference is a tough one to win- a lot of talent out east, and obviously, there's a long way to go. But they're playing their best football right now, and if their 4 in a row turned into much more than that, many of us would not be that surprised. The hope in Amaku is through the roof. You walk around the town right now- banners everywhere, jerseys, etc... it's one of the most passionate college towns in the country, and that's full on display. Can Lesedi U reward their faith with a title?

Lake Alexandre State Vipers(5-1)

Named after the late Alexandre V of Quebec(who became King-Emperor about a year after Banijan independence from Quebec), the Vipers are sitting pretty, at 5-1. And, even more importantly, they are unbeaten in conference at the halfway mark, sitting at 4-1 in conference play. They're not necessarily blowing a bunch of teams out- although their most recent 18 point drubbing of Hangaza State, off of the bye week, means that an already good team may be improving steadily with each week. But they are figuring out how to win those close games, and make the plays at the end of the game.

Let's take a look at their Weeks 3-5 wins. They beat the West Bunyoro Tigersharks by 7, on the road, in week 3. How did that game end? The Tigersharks got down to the Vipers 40, down 7, with 1:12 left. But then, 2 sacks in a row left them with a 3rd & 22. Incomplete pass. 4th & 22, another incomplete pass. Game, set match. The very next week, they took on Arlenia College- a fierce rivalry, 'The Battle of the Quebecois Crowns'. A side track on one of Banija's most interesting rivalries. Both schools are named after long-dead, historic Quebecois Monarchs(Alexandre V and Queen Arlene, respectively), and in their rivalry, they play for a replica of the Quebecois crown. Traditionally, Quebec's High Commissioner attends the game on an annual basis. Arlenia College, generally pretty bad at sports however(mostly an elite academic prep college), always gets up for their matchups to take on the Vipers. Yet, the Vipers got far ahead- they only one by 7, but Arlenia College scored a TD with 7 seconds left to make it a one score game. And then, against North Kitara- a 13 point road win that was a comeback. The Vipers outscored North Kitara, 22-3, in the second half to earn the 36-23 road win.

The Valley Interior is there for the taking. U of Moravica hasn't looked that good. Neither have schools like the University of Hangaza. Can they win it? This year seems like a better opportunity than any- but they've still got games left against both U of M and U of H, so there's plenty left in this one.

When the top two teams in the rankings go 0-3 since the last rankings two weeks ago... Including one of them losing to the freaking Ankole College for Creative Studies, you KNOW this top 10 will see shakeups. And that's exactly what happened.

Kizza I College, after being briefly knocked off the #1 perch, came back to take the top perch this year- for the third time this season(in the fourth set of polls). A blowout home win over Thabiso U, and a tight, inter-city rivalry matchup against Jawara Tech, put the Cubs over the top and into the national championship. Behind them, things got interesting. The Waterbucks lost their most recent game- but that's what happens when you don't have weekly rankings. The country's only team with 6 wins, it'd have been a scandal if they were ranked anywhere lower than #2- although the voters always seem to be giving Kizza I College the benefit of the doubt.

Behind them, you've got Wild Valley and Hangaza Tech at 3 and 4- neither surprising, both just sliding up the rankings. At fifth is the first surprise- Lake Alexandre State. Not yet ranked this season, they simply could no longer be ignored. 4-0 in conference, the Vipers demand to be respected in the top five, and the voters had no choice but to put them there. They could easily fly higher- but #5 is a good spot to be. Could they really win their conference? They are joined by Lesedi U, who have also won 4 games in a row, all in conference. Both are ranked for the first time all year.

Then, we've got the University of Aksum. Are they really back? After their running back's bold prediction, voters seem to believe so. A lot of fans are unhappy about this- U of A ranked seventh?? But, for now, they are the highest ranked 2 loss team in the country. The ground game seems to have it together, and the N-9 seems to be their conference to lose. More wins can see them continue to climb those tables.

The rankings are rounded out by a bunch of teams that have fallen. Zakuta State fell from #6 to #9- tough, yes, but this included a win over the previously #2 team in the country, the University of Buganda. And then, you've got the #1 and #2 teams from week 5 sandwiching the Crocs- the Islamic U, at #8, and then the University of Buganda, at #10. I guess they could not handle the heat in the kitchen. They were ranked in the top two, and then immediately busted down the rankings. Free falling. A combined 0-3 since then(Islamic U losing once, while U of Buganda lost twice). There's a lot of pressure that comes with those high rankings. Can they get their season back on track?

Unsurprisingly, teams #8-#10 fell out of the rankings entirely. They went a combined 1-5 in the last two weeks, with the Sea Eagles being the only ones to win a game. The Centaurs probably had the worst performance of them all- losing by 42 against U of A. Maybe those teams were flash in the pan all along? Who knows. We've still got half a season left to determine whether these teams were for real, or whether they really were not all that good to begin with.

DE George Bolado- Junior at Sankt Adelheid
QB Oladobu Nantambu- Senior at Kizza I College.
QB Baka Webo- Sophomore at Wild Valley.
CB Wanzala Ssemeere- RS Junior at the University of Bunyoro.
HB Muhoozi Lwako- RS Junior at the University of Aksum
WR Olupot Lumbuyé- Junior at Lesedi University

It was an even bigger win than it looked- the Blue Thunder were up 38-0 after three quarters, throwing in their backups in the fourth quarter, where the Bats scored all their points. While they still had their moments from the WR position(Schlachter dropping a wide open 50 yard TD in the second quarter, where they had to punt afterwards), it was the first time where they really executed well on offense for an entire game. Head Coach Dennis Zervos told reporters that 'this is the offense that we need to see consistently' from this team, and that 'they would be ready' for what would surely be a tough contest in week 5, at home against the Royal Navy Academy Mariners.

Meanwhile, up north, Northern Moravica kept the Golden Axe, as they triumphed over their rivals, Hankow State, 27-20, in a close game at Mugisha II Memorial Stadium. The Cougars improved to 3-1 on the day. "Beating a team like Hankow State- much easier said than done." Coach Kabuye told reporters. "It showed this team's mental toughness, however. Last week's lost to Loyola-Istria, was simply brutal in every fashion. But we didn't allow that one game to derail our season. We got right back up, and turned things around on the football field. We've got a long way to go in the season, but I'm confident that our Savannah Division title goal is still extremely achievable." Read more about the contest in the Vietussia Inquisitor. The Cougars will take on the Upper Westside Red Pandas of St. Kanye in what is sure to be the game of the week in the Celestia Conference in week 5.

Banijan NSCF Betting Lines for Week 5.
Guide
If a team is +(aka Banija +4 against Ranoria), then they are the underdog.
If a team minus(aka Ranoria -4 against Banija) they are the favorite.
If a line is listed as +/- (aka Cold Hill scoring +/- 8.5 points) then that is the line you can bet the over/under. In example, at that, you could bet that Cold Hill will score more than 8.5 points, or less than 8.5 points.

NSFB: The Aftermath Is Certainly Fruitful

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Mar 09, 2023 1:24 pm

Earth Trophy VII would see a convincing victory for the host team, with the victors getting to keep the Trophy for themselves and the losers having to figure out what went wrong. It certainly felt like a fitting conclusion to the 1st round of Heartland Divison play but now, both sides must make their way through the 2nd act of the Mineral Conference schedule with 4 straight games against the Boreal Division.

The Trent State Feathercaps were the ones who would leave The Palace feeling humbled by the efforts of that night, as it just simply felt like GCU was the better side in almost every capacity. Johnny Bridgeford knew that what happened would certainly sting for a little while, but the team had to move forward and Jason Steels just has to play the brilliant football everyone knows he can play. The Horseshoe was expecting a bounceback performance and the visitors this time would be the Alexandroupolis Redbirds of New Gesem, with Curtis Decker's side entering Notts with a 2-1 record. But this day wouldn't turn out to be the day of the Redbird as Calvin Cotton only managed 1 TD the entire game, a 4-yard reception by Sean Parker, with Clyde Head scoring the sole PAT. The rest of the game was just dominance from the TSU defence as Ridgeciano Jozefzoon managed a pick 6 and Steels was given plenty of room by his O-line to score 3 TDs - twice to Yurilka Zelinskaya and once a fake pass into a running play via Samantha Gibson. Eleonora "Firefeet" Scafakou managed 3/4 on PATs and just like that, TSU had the 27-7 win over UA...which certainly did feel good to those in green and red.

The Green City Royal Eagles, on the other hand, were certainly still in a good mood after winning back the Earth Trophy in The Palace in convincing fashion, the Trophy now "back where it belonged" in the GCU Sports Centre. Of course, Paul Abdullahi was fucking delighted to get that Trophy back and especially on the back of a brilliant performance from Alisha Obi Michel, but they still had a long way to go and he knew that the Boreal would be hungry to go after the only undefeated team left in the MinCon. The Palace would certainly be rocking for Part 2 of "New Gesem's in town" as Josh Wilkins' Constantinople Binturongs came to town looking to improve on their 1-2 record. They certainly gave a good showing today with 24 points as Joshua Gonzales scored 3 TDs on the day, all 3 recieved in the endzone by Duane Pratt with Juan Foster going 3/3 on PATs and also hitting a 39-yard FG. As for GCU, they certainly proved why the Valanora Times had the faith to put this team at #1 with AOM hitting a remarkable 6 TDs on the day, all via different personnel - Harrison Jeffers, Carlton McSwane, Mercy Oshoala, Batsogile Lovederia, herself and Stella Oshoala. Glory Oparanozie only managed 5/6 on PATs but 41-27 was still a convincing result all the same and the Royal Eagles move to 4-0 on the year.

Next week will certainly be interesting as the TJUN-ianscholls finally get to play against the schools from the 2nd new nation to this conference: Gran Saguaro. TSU is having their Homecoming against the Boreal leading 3-1 Zorrillos of Universidad Politécnica Autónoma del Metro-Boca Rana, or UPAM-Boca Rana for short, while GCU ends their 3 game homestand against the 1-3 Ventosas of Universidad Pública Reserva Cui-ui, or UPR Cui-ui for short. It's always interesting when you face a new conference foe and with 3-1 and 4-0 records to defend, next week will certainly be a true gauge of where the Boreal may lie.
