THE SEVENTH GENERAL ELECTION
THE HOUSE OF PETARA
The third Bendahara of Eraman, Tun Sin Usin resigned as the president of the Eraman Nationalist Party and the Bendahara of Eraman due to health issues a year before the 7th General Election. His sudden departure from politics left a void that needed to be filled. Enter Tun Maha Petara, who had served as Tun Sin Usin's deputy and was known for his political maneuvering.
Tun Maha Petara is the younger brother of the Maharaja of Eraman at that time and a member of the House of Petara, once the most powerful entity in Eraman before democracy was introduced in the country. Just less than 3 decades before the 7th general election, the head of the House of Petara being the Maharaja of Eraman held absolute power which they had held for centuries and wielded immense influence over the country's politics, economy, and society. 27 years after relinquishing their absolute power in favor of democracy, the House of Petara was back on the wheel with Tun Maha Petara as the Bendahara of Eraman.
Tun Maha Petara's rise in politics began when he helped the 2nd Bendahara of Eraman, Tun Ajak Usin, oust the 1st Bendahara of Eraman, Tun Man Wangsa. Tun Maha Petara led the efforts to put pressure on Tun Man Wangsa and subsequently remove him from power. His successful efforts were paid handsomely as he was made an important member of the cabinet after Tun Ajak Usin became the Bendahara. This, along with Tun Maha Petara's reputation for being a charismatic and effective leader, helped to propel him to the forefront of the Eraman Nationalist Party and eventually the fourth Bendahara of Eraman.
With the opposition at its weakest point, he and the Eraman Nationalist Party emerged as the clear victors in the 7th general election, winning the majority of seats in the People's House and securing the mandate to continue to govern the country. The election marked the start of a new era in Eraman's political history, with Tun Maha Petara and the House of Petara firmly in the driver's seat.
