NSCF 28 Sign-ups
Welcome to the twenty-eighth edition of NSCF so far- the longest-running college football league on NationStates! If you’re looking for something where you can come in and have a great shot at success right from the opening kickoff, then this is the perfect competition for you! The maximum RP bonus is very generous, potentially allowing a dedicated newcomer to compete evenly with ranked veterans within a few games. In general, NSCF tends to be rather laid-back, with games played only three times per week to make it easier to RP for each one. Plus, if you’re looking to groom future World Bowl leaders... this is the place to do it!

* All style modifiers will be rounded to three decimal places where necessary. If one is not specified, it will be set to 0.
* If Nation and Trigramme are not specified, the NSCF House, based in Joongyeong, Quebec and Shingoryeo (OOC user of the Commissioner), will assume the nation name and assign a trigramme accordingly.
Conferences and Schedules
Teams will be evenly split across a number of conferences dependent on the number of signups. Conference hosts are yet to be finalised but usually consist of people with previous hosting experience. Once sign-ups are closed, conference assignments will be announced, and conference hosts will release their schedules for scorination. From there, all of the schedules will be posted in one post near the top of the RP thread. The conferences will be arranged so that returning teams will retain their conference where possible according to the current procedural list.
The format of regular season games will guarantee that teams play all others in their conference at least once, and have a total of ten games, plus the opportunity for up to three non-conference games for a potential total of thirteen games.
For the second straight NSCF season, a tentative format proposed by Drawkland, will once again be trialed this edition. It is not confirmed at this point in time, and may also depend on the number of signups, but for now, it is placed into consideration.
Postseason Format
Depending on the number of conferences, the playoff format may vary, but the number of teams will be no more than one third of total entrants. Regardless of the exact number of teams that qualify, it will be a seeded, single-elimination bracket, with no third-place game. Higher seeds will have home team advantage throughout, until the final -- to be held at a neutral location, with a bidding and voting process later in the season -- and seeds will not be recalculated and re-drawn after each round.
Limit of Signups per Nation
Nations that actively participated in NSCF 26 or 27 (posted a roster and RP’d at least twice) can sign up one or two teams. A third team may be permitted for nations who have displayed consistently strong RPing in previous seasons. Any nations that do not meet those qualifications or any new nations to NSCF may only sign-up one team, unless special dispensation is given.
Scorination
Scorination will be done using the latest available release of Commerce Heights' xkoranate, with the SQIS formula (IFAF overtime, post-WB XXXI) and "xkoranate style" modifiers (this may be subject to change). Games will be scorinated three times weekly, on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. The times that scores are posted will vary due to the fact that there are multiple hosts, so keep in mind who is scorinating your conference when looking for your most recent results. Note that NSCF also utilizes a degrading RP bonus, to reward consistent RPing throughout a season. The system is outlined in the NSCF procedural list.
Other Cool NSCF Things
NSCF has an optional player-operated recruiting system, which you can see in effect in some previous seasons or ask about in the discussion thread. Season 28 will also feature up to six consolation Bowl Games for non-playoff teams (see season 27's thread, linked above, for examples). These aspects of NSCF will be explained in the RP thread prior to season start, or feel free to drop in on the discussion thread and ask. We don't bite! If you are confused about how gridiron football works on a collegiate level, it is modelled after the NCAA's FBS, which you can read about here.
The latest NSCF rankings (which will be available by the end of the sign-up period) will be used in conjunction with a large RP bonus equal to approximately 85% of the maximum possible ranking score. RP bonus will be cumulative but will degrade at a rate of 50% (of the total bonus value) four times (after MD3, MD6, MD9 and MD12, also known as 2nd nonconference matchday) during the regular season. RP bonus will be cumulative with no degradation for the remainder of the competition, including MD13 and the playoffs.
Postseason Awards
All nations can nominate up to six recipients for each of the post-season awards, and the NSCF Committee will vote on each of the following at the end of the season:
- Most Outstanding Player
- Offensive Player of the Year
- Defensive Player of the Year
- Special Teams Player of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Freshman of the Year
NSCF 28 Projected Timeline
Sign-ups are typically open for about 2-3 weeks. The goal is to kick off the season before or around the Super Bowl weekend.
The season typically runs for about six weeks, meaning we will likely crown our new champion by no later than late-March. As always, I will be keeping options open for possible delay. It is preferred that conflict with World Cup qualifying stage be avoided as much as possible, but we'll see how that materialise. In this day and age of 2/48s, it may be lot easier for us to just let NSCF and WC overlap, and I remain hopeful that both tournaments can more than thrive off each other from each other's mana, as well as that of the World Bowl.
Rosters are not necessary at this moment in time - post these in the RP thread later. The target for signups is 36 or 40, with a minimum of 30 and a hard cap of 48. Ideally the final number will be 30, 36, 40, 42, 48 or 50.
