Tegeh Kori, Pemecutan - Back home, Pemecutan start their journey as the host of IBA Sports Championships yesterday with the kick-off of the first 2 events in weightlifting. And the homecrowed were ecstatic after the country managed to won 2 gold medals. In men's 61kg, Pemecutan were represented by their last Olympic representative, Andreas Andardi and newcomer, Ahmad Fauzi. Andardi have been very dominant right from the start. In the snatch category, he managed to lifted 137 kg, the best lifting in the event. The result was breaking his personal record of 132 kg which he scored in XVI Summer Olympics. In the clean and jerk category, he can only lift 160 kg. It's only 1 kg lower than the best lift of the event scored by Estogium lifter, Jairo Hames. Andardi clean and jerk result was also lower than his personal best of 165 kg. Nevertheless, he still managed to collected a combined lifting of 297 kg which garnered him a good medal.
While in women's 49 kg, all eyes were focused on Ayu Priyasti, the Olympic bronze medal. Priyasti start badly after she only able to lift 79 kg in snatch category. The result was far from her personal record of 86 kg. But she made up her result in clean and jerk category. Holding the Olympic record for the category, Priyasti success to lift 118 kg. It was the only lifting that passed 100 kg in the event. Despite 2 kg lower than her Olympic record, but it's enough to garnered her a gold medal. With 2 gold medal in the opening day, the weightlifting team is in high hope that they will be able to win more medals.
Doportedas, Britonisea - While in Britonisea, Pemecutan failed to add another medal in artistic gymnastics. In the individual all-around events, Pemecutan had 4 athletes in the final, 2 in each event. Yowana once again gives an impressive performance especially in floor and parallel bars apparatuses which seems to be his expertise. (Yowana was also performed in the final of the XVI Summer Olympic for these apparatuses). However, his great performance was still not enough for him to win a medal. He was only finished 5th. His teammate, Made Dwi Andika was not in a better situation. He performance was considered mediocre by the expert. He was placed 7th overall.
In the women's event, Indri Septiani once again performed miserably. She was only able to scored a combined points of 48.467 with uneven bars become her best performance. However, the result placed her 2nd to the bottom place. This continuous bad performance from Septiani makes the fans and sports critics questioning about her condition. In an interview after her performance, Septiani only said that she got distracted. She didn't made any further comments. Her teammate, Dian Budi Hartati managed to performed better. Although it is still not enough for the medal contention. She was placed 7th with 55.733 points. However, this result is better than her Olympic result but lower than her IBA qualification result. With this results, the athletes are now focused on their apparatuses final. Made Dwi Andika is the only male athlete to qualify for apparatus final. While there are 3 female athletes competing for the medal.
