World Baseball Classic 56 (CONCLUDED)

Postby World Baseball Classic » Thu Dec 15, 2022 12:58 pm

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 56 Signups!

This is the signup thread for World Baseball Classic 56. If you have done this before, or have done other major competitions on NS Sports before but not the World Baseball Classic before, you know what you need to do for now. If this is your first time, then let me first welcome you to the competition. Right now, all you need to do is declare that your nation signs up, and then keep an eye on this thread as the sign up process progresses.
Users that have previously participated in a WBC are allowed to sign up a secondary nation (puppet). This puppet has to be declared by both the puppet and primary nation of the user (master).
The process will eventually lead to a host vote, and once we have a host, that nation will put out a schedule and lead us through the competition.

In order to be considered as a host, you must submit a bid. On NS Sports, the host is responsible for the day to day running of the tournament, which includes being able to reliably scorinate the competition. The World Baseball Classic is typically the second most roleplayed competition on the entire forum, behind the World Cup. Therefore, it is typically a competition that requires an experienced host. There are great competitions out there for first time hosts to get their feet wet, but like the World Cup, the World Baseball Classic is not really one of them, unless jointly bidding with an experienced partner. Having said that, there are no restrictions on a first time host submitting a bid.

Recent winning bids:
Winning WBC 55 bid (Drawkland)
Winning WBC 54 bid (Zwangzug)
Winning WBC 53 bid (Banija)
Winning WBC 52 bid (Chromatika)
Winning WBC 51 bid (South Newlandia & Tikariot)
Winning WBC 50 bid (Cassadaigua)
Winning WBC 49 bid (Newmanistan)
Winning WBC 48 bid (Drawkland)

A valid WBC bid must include, at the absolute minimum, how you plan on structuring the tournament and the method of scorination. If it does not, at minimum, include that, it will not be considered for voting.

Voting on WBC host bids is done by members of the World Baseball Classic Council. The members of the council can be found by using the applicable link in the signature of this account. You can also find the current ranks there.

HOST BID DEADLINE: Thursday, December 29th Saturday, December 31st, at 11:59 pm EST.

Projected Timeline: The host vote will be from December 29th to January 2nd January 1st to January 4th. So, look for an Everything Thread in early January if things go smoothly.

This post also is considered the signup for Nova Anglicana. If you want to play too, whether its your first time or you have done this many times, sign up now!

Chromatik Bid to Host the 56th WBC

Sponsored By:
Image

The Chromatika Sports Commission, along with the Equilibrium Symposium, is bidding to host the 56th WBC.

Chromatik National Info:
A group of islands located in the far northeast of Anaia, Chromatika is a land continually rising after overcoming an apartheid caste system and undergoing two free elections. Gone are the days of the Chromatik Party through the efforts of the Rainbow Revolution; the new Premier, Hélène Embroise of the New Light Party, is making strides on correcting past wrongs and uniting the Chromatik populace to be one people working toward the same goal while keeping in mind its place in the broader world.

A very strict nation in terms of recreation, smoking of any drug is banned in Chromatika to Chromatiks; any visitors are to express their intent before entering the nation. Drinking is allowed but only in moderation at designated restaurants and bars; personal possession of alcohol in one’s residence is also prohibited.

Please fly to Anaia, namely Ramusok (Cosumar), Quebec City (Quebec and Shinguryeo), Cathair (Audioslavia), or Jhanna (Starblaydia) before flying to Chromia.

Format:
  • 40 nations - 8 groups of 5, double round-robin series play, Top 3 per group to Round of 24
  • 48 nations - 8 groups of 6, double round-robin series play, Top 3 per group to Round of 24
  • 50 nations - 10 groups of 5, double round-robin series play, Top 2 per group and 4 best 3rd placed finishers to Round of 24
  • 54 nations - 9 groups of 6, double round-robin series play, Top 2 per group and 6 best 3rd placed finishers to Round of 24
  • 60 nations - 10 groups of 6, double round-robin series play, Top 2 per group and 4 best 3rd placed finishers to Round of 24

The playoffs will be held in Chromatika consisting of best-of-five series, except for the final, which will be best-of-seven, as always. Playoff series will be scored two games at a time, except the final game if necessary. The Championship series will be scored one game at a time. The bracket will be seeded, with no reseeding in between rounds. Teams that played against each other in the group stage will only be able to play against each other starting with the second knock-out round. Cutoff will be almost every day, with a few rest days in between.

The tiebreakers for both group stage advancement and playoff seeding will be, in this order: Group Stage placement (only for Playoff seeding), wins, H2H results, H2H run differential, overall run differential, RP Bonus (IC coin flip), OOC coin flip. If a tie between multiple teams must be broken and one team wins the tiebreaker at any stage, while the remaining teams are still tied, the tiebreakers start at the top of the list again to break the tie between the remaining teams.

Scorination and RP Bonus:
I plan to run the tournament with each matchup being a series of three games, using the SNL-updated formula. The group table will be scored by using three concurrent double round-robins, and using the Table Generator function in xkoranate to compile the results. This also allows all games involving Chromatika to be scored by a third party, as I can just input that result into the Group Table. Cutoff will happen between 10PM and 11PM Pacific Time. All matches involving Chromatika will be scored by a Third Party.

Host experience:
WCC events: Cohost of WC 88, BoF 46, BoF 73, and CoH 52, CR 11 (as Falconfar), AOCAF 53, Cohost of AOCAF 59
Also: 12th U-18 WC, WCoH 18 and WBC 36, WB 41, IBC 32, Playoffs of NSCF 22, NSCF 23, and NSCAA 12
