As presented by the RBSA
OK, I'll try to keep this brief
Brevity Challenge Cup 1
Brevity Challenge Cup 2
Brevity Challenge Cup 3
So, I'm sure all of you are wondering- what the hell is the Brevity Challenge Cup?
The answer: This is an association football(soccer for some of us) tournament, that'll be held in the immediate aftermath of the World Cup. The key? RPs will be limited to 50 words. With a bonus for having your RP be 50 words precisely. And a maximum one RP per matchday. Bonuses for other challenges will be set after each scorination, that will include things like a word or phrase of the day, or miscellaneous trivia, or a random theme. You can choose to ignore all that of course, and you'll forego some of your bonus. So the Brevity Challenge Cup is a creative writing challenge, but designed to inspire and not to give you a ton of homework. ICly it might be a nice opportunity to give fringe NTers some playing time directly after the World Cup, or a chance to give your senior team another opportunity to earn a trophy.
And yes- I've gotten permission from the previous host to resurrect this tournament after a RL decade of it going into hiatus.
*Variations do occur
Organisational Notes
As with previous Brevity Challenge Cups, this will be limited to 32 nations- although, we may run with less if necessary. There are three nations that are going to enter the tournament by invitation- myself, the previous host (Delte via Wight), and Recuecn. As a note, rosters and my own IC info will not be subject to the word count, just because those are tools for others to RP with.
I will also, of course, take points away for going over the word count.
I will grade the RP straight up. And then...
Less than 50 words- 100% of grade
50 words exactly- 120% of grade
51-70 words- 90% of grade
71-90 words- 2/3s of grade
91-100 words- 50% of grade
101 words or more- 0% of grade
Wednesday 10 November - Cut-off for sign-ups, group draw & Roster/RP/Results thread up; first creative challenges issued.
To give some weight - but not too much - to the established order of things, teams will receive a ranking based on the most up-to-date KPB available (depending on timing, either post WC Finals, or the rankings in use Right now) - simplified by dividing up the KPB into brackets of ten and giving a rank dependent on which bracket a team currently resides in. However, anyone who takes part using, say, a bunch of fans who won a pie-eating competition on TV, or bus drivers on holiday, or veterans over the age of fifty, can self-elect to rank themselves in the lowest bracket. Because it's not about the winning, it's about the taking part, right???!
Questions, suggestions and sign-ups below, Sign-ups are probable, but due to checking NSS RP history, are technically not guaranteed. If you've not been invited, and you sign-up, and I don't know you, I will probably make a little check on your RP history. I will try to get the sign-ups confirmed as quickly as possible so that no-one is left waiting too long. Puppets are allowed, but must be declared, and standard puppet policy applies
Of my hosting experience: I've hosted a lot of things, including a pair of AOCAFs and a pair of World Cups.
