Scorination will happen around 2100-2300 EST (Toronto-New York Time). In UTC, this will be 0100-0300 the day after.

Scorination and Tiebreakers

Scorination for the competition will use the modified SQIS file made available by Quintessence of Dust to reflect a more realistic scoring front. Style modifiers will be permitted to the fullest range (+/-5).

In the case of ties, the following tiebreakers will be used: H2H results -> H2H points difference -> H2H goals for -> Overall points difference -> Overall points for -> RP bonus.

RP Bonus, Rosters & Permissions

RP bonus will be generously applied. I will allow about 8 total RP bonuses for the tournament, which would give the unranked nation and a non-RPing top 2 nation in the world close to an equal standing by the end of the group stage.

As for the generously-applied nature of the RP bonus, I will be looking at the overall quality of each RP. While it is preferred that there be some rugby-related component to it, I do not see the point of penalising somebody for not adhering to such. I will also not be providing length as a major factor. In the case where an RPer may be working on a longer series format that stretches outside of the tournament/sport's scope, however, I will be more than happy to ask the RPer about the overall storyline.

As a participant of this competition it is considered a courtesy to post rosters to help yourself and your opponents out with RPing the matches. A couple of things to keep in mind with that: A rugby league team consists of thirteen players, given numbers 1 to 13. A recommended roster size is 24. Don't forget to list your specialist kicker or two, and of course, the team captain.

As for the RP Permissions box, which should be placed right at the beginning or the end of the roster, check below. Choose scorers section is appropriately removed to follow recent customs where people have raised genuine concerns over this intervening with the RPability of others' matches.

Quebec & Shingoryeo Information

Image

Quebec & Shingoryeo is a gigantic nation of 84 million people located in the Calania continent of northwestern Anaia, consisting of 12 provinces.

That said, due to its geographical location, as well as the complexities of the territorial planes over the Quebecois Realms, it identifies itself as a nation of both Calania and northwestern AO, and handles its border/territorial situations accordingly. Quebecois Realms and the N.A.F.T.A. Zone of five nations that are, for some complicated reasons soon to be RP'd in the last quarter of the OOC calendar year 2022, located in Anaia and Atlantian Oceania. For official administrative purposes, it is recognised to be within an Anaian location.

In Anaia, it borders former Semarland and New Gesem to the southeast and Huayramarca to southwest. In Atlantian Oceania, it borders Lacfroid to southeast and Whitecroft to southwest. South Detroit Free State, as a former Quebecois territory, is considered a dual-region state and qualifies under same regulations as the Quebecois Mainland in terms of border control. In terms of water, it faces Salamantic Sea and the Northandryun Strait to the West, Xile Sea to the East. North of the Quebecois borders stand Blood Sea, the maganimous ocean that stands between Anaia and Atlantian Oceania to Rushmore.

The land that is now known to be part of Quebecois Realms, which share boundaries with aforementioned nations of the N.A.F.T.A. Zone, is inhabited for millennia by the indigenous people present in the region. In the year 1404, the fleet of Joseonite exiles from the would sail into the so-called RL-verse move into areas that nowadays constitute the Acadie province and the capitol of Joongyeong, where the kingdom was founded in the same year by Henri I, who negotiated treaty of coexistence among all peoples of the nation, whether indigenous or Koreanophone.

Over the subsequent centuries, the nation would grow in size and technology. With the quiet incorporation of the neighbouring peoples, the expansion of maritime trade between Atlantian Oceania and Rushmore (and to some degree Tyran and Esportiva), subsequent industrialisation of the country's industries, and inconsistent operations of the interrealm portal, the Quebecois Empire would grow to incorporate territories across many regions.

The Empire, while formed by military warfare and supported by its allied nations (see: Gatchingerrak Union's constituent nations), was an odd one of own. It did not suppress the peoples or the cultures, but focused on the equal standings between the locals (this being mostly the ruling elites of the territories) who would fall under the mostly similar administrative and economic frameworks (citation needed for latter btw). Thus, the Empire was stood to be a short-term option with nations fostered to develop their own, nationalistic path over time. With the growing inequalities faced domestically at home, and the overseas territories becoming increasingly unmanageable in economic terms by the early-1900s, decolonisation and the further bloc-ification of the Quebecois Empire and its allies were inevitable and encouraged.

Eventually, the Empire would turn into that of the Quebecois Commonwealth, a loose political and economic union of two-dozen nations, with the process finished by year 1949. The nation, now without a glitter (and grime) of an empire, had to embark on their own path to redefine themselves. Continued encouragement of immigration from both Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth nations, which had coincided the postwar decades' excitement and calls for cultural liberalisation, would further diversify the nation. At the same time the resilient strength of the nation's economy, even after all the booms-and-busts of economic cycles, nationalisation and privatisation and re-nationalisation policies, would too ensure that Quebec and Shingoryeo, just over a century after the nation-defining Southern Rushmori War and the de-markation of the Quebecois Empire, and just under a decade after historical Foxchester Declaration, is still a darn good place to live, if slightly expensive.

Quebec and Shingoryeo is a federal parliamentary democracy and semi-constitutional monarchy, currently led by Christine II as the head of state. There are three official languages - English, French and Korean - with local indigenous languages spoken in regional capacity. Quebec and Shingoryeo has one of the largest economies in both regions, which is built upon its strengths in heavy industry, finance and agriculture.

As the seat of the former Quebecois Empire and the current Quebecois Commonwealth, Quebec & Shingoryeo has stood as a major power in Anaia and Atlantian Oceania. It has also maintained its historical status as one of major international powers in culture, science and philosophy - a feat achieved partly through the existence of Quebecois Commonwealth and its geopolitical location between Anaia, Atlantian Oceania and Rushmore, but also through long history of social and cultural homogeneity that originated from the nation's founding day. That said the nation, once an active participant in international wars, has stayed peaceful and relatively conflict-less, and is expected to uphold the past forty years of peacetime.

Travelling to Quebec and Shingoryeo is a fun, multi-planar experience (lol) of own. It can feel daunting and all that - I totally understand it!

So, with this in mind, here are some travel tips you could use for next the month of fun on the Quebecois west coast:

1. Laws, laws and laws.

Quebec and Shingoryeo is known to be a fairly liberal country in terms of certain laws, and it's partly true. That is probably why you are smelling a bit of marijuana and may be drinking too much on an outdoor patio of a local delicatessen while walking down the street.

The minimum age to purchase and consume substances vary in what substance - 14 for alcohol, 16 for marijuana, and 21 for tobacco. Possession and consumption of said substances (which also include a narrow list of recreational drugs) on outdoors are predictably legal as well, though some boomers and fitness maniacs may openly judge you if you do them on a park or somewhere that public.

There is a total ban on indoor public smoking, however, and this extends to sporting events in general. Drinking on indoor venues, while not prohibited, will be frowned upon. Besides, why would you drink indoors when there is just a pub down the road with way cheaper and better quality Anju?

Drugs trade, unless they are from a legal vendor and for legal substance, is banned. So if you are a local or a tourist who roll up the J or pop molly on after hours on a park after watching an amazing day of Greco-Roman wrestling (men's 130kg weight class), you are more than welcome to go to a state-owned Cannabiscorp or a co-op store and buy stuff instead.

What is no different than other past hosting nations are firearms. Firearm ownership, let alone use, is heavily restricted in Quebec and Shingoryeo with exceptions only given to those whose work requires for it (e.g. shooters, pentathletes, some members of the police and the military), or those who have likely survived months and several dozen pages of application process for a hunting rifle. For this Olympics, since the shooting and modern pentathlon events are played in Prescott and not Twin Cities, let's just assume that it's probably not a good idea to not bring your favourite Glock or Colt .45 to Quebecois soil.

2. Quebecois Pound (Q£) is the national currency. The exchange rate is roughly Q£1 = NSD 2.00. Foreign credit cards will be accepted into most bank ATMs.

3. As have seen above, Quebec and Shingoryeo has three official languages - English, French and Korean - with local indigenous language(s) also used on a regional capacity. While all three languages will be used on an official capacity, the language dynamic there is a bit more complicated - the best way to describe this is by using a quote from Sylvain IV 'The Thinker', the great-grandfather of current Christine II - 'I speak English to a Banker, French to a Dancer, Korean to a Thinker, and the Original Tongue to a God.' In the Northwestern part of Quebec, English and Korean are primarily spoken.

4. Quebecois people are usually known to be talkative, celebratory and most importantly blunt, and they will rarely apologise or remain polite unless on close capacity. While those in need of help or directions will always be helped, and you will be set for a long time after that, it is expected that the help be asked first by those whom this may concern. That said, once the help is sought out and all goes well, you will be set for the rest of your time here, and may have found yourself a lifelong mate to come stay over or drink with.

5. The rights of freedom of speech and assembly are guaranteed. The people of Twin Cities, after all, are particularly known for their display of love for their city. The locals' hooliganing tendencies, especially on the games of their beloved Saint John Green Sox of QBO or Steelers of QFL, are well known across Quebec.

That said, this does not mean freedom from consequences.

In adherence to the security protocol established back in the hosting of the Games of the 16th Olympiad, there will be strict security checks when entering the venues and team hotels, with additional personnel placed across the city. Unlike with the Olympics, however, there will be more lax security regulations -- flares, obscenely large banners and limited display of hooliganism will be tolerated. Displays of hate speech will not be tolerated, howeever.

6. The question of religion is a complicated one, perhaps even more so than languages. Traditionally, Roman Catholicism, Mahayana Buddhism, Anglicanism, and Indigenous religions are considered as four religious pillars of state, and are viewed with particular interest by the state and people. All four pillars, as well as other minor religions, incorporate various elements of native shamanism and folk traditions and do not always follow the rules from Vatican or Canterbury, something that have complicated the authority-to-authority relations over the Interrealm portal.

The rights of religion are unquestioned here, and this will remain the same throughout the course of the Olympic Games. People tend to be careful being aware of other person's religions though, and their way to addressing it is usually not asking about them. At least not on the first impression/moment, else they are viewed as rude.

7. If you need police, fire or most importantly medical help, please call 777. (Yeah, it's literally 777).

Visitors and athletes of delegations will be able to receive excellent and prompt care from the city's hospitals and walk-in clinics under the People's Healthcare Services (PHS). Specialists may take a little bit longer time to reach, but for the most part will be there for you in time. Those interested in consulting services re: traditional medicine will be given referrals, but those likely require a friend or two, or a local jack, who knows one.

8. Food and alcohol here should be fine, if slightly spicy. Influenced by the indigenous fare and the influences of haute cuisine coming from the Joseonian settlers of old, the Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, and other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats. In this part of Calania, moose, lamb and caribou are known to be particularly popular, which have long survived the wave of delicacies that are no longer eaten.

They are also known for intensive use of spices, sauces and pastes. Seafood is extremely popular across the country, though their affordability remains up in the air unless you reside on West or East Coast - more inland parts usually consume freshwater fare instead. Quebecois do not have a particularly picky taste of alcohol in general, though what alcohols you drink usually depends on your cultural background and socioeconomic demographics. Smoking culture is massive here, and while cigarette smoking is very slowly declining over the years, marijuana's prominence in society is not something that's being challenged anytime soon.

ラグビーリーグコーレン代表 - Équipe du Co-oren de rugby à XIII - Seleccão Co-orenense de Rugby League - Rugby League Kouren Daivyou

Demonym: Ko-orenite
Colours: Green & Blue, yellow trim
Style mod: -5

Starting XIII
FB Hochi Endo (23) Katashi Hawks / Leleia, a practical, muscular clown.

LW Ieviro Nakazono (28) Etena Vipers / Yoshima, a fanatical, instinctive technician.
LC Takahira Satomi (31) Alara Spiders / Yoshima, a defensive, bulky carrier.
RC Rodolphe Clermont (22) Aminey Buffaloes / Cote Austral, a introverted, stocky tactician.
RW Rodolfo Rodela (25) Katashi Hawks / Finisterre, a unchanging, athletic creator.

SO Hayanari Kobayashi (22) Katashi Hawks / Leleia, a nasty, tall artist.
HB Takaaki Vamadate (25) Aminey Buffaloes / Yoshima, a chatty, tall debater.

LO Marin Gaudin (30) Aminey Buffaloes / Cote Austral, a callous, strong speed demon.
LS Kan Kotobuki (21) Selesi Dragons / Yoshima, a disruptive, muscular workhorse.
RS Bertoud van Lichten (20) Ferrovente Scorpions / , a adaptable, plump precise passer.
LP Mitsuteru Teguramori (22) Etena Vipers / Yoshima, a opportunistic, burly precise passer.
RP Co Asselin (27) Aminey Owls / Cote Austral, a mean, lanky clown.
HO Vidal Testa (25) Aminey Buffaloes / Finisterre, a hopeful, portly leader.

A barrage of Aminey Buffaloes and Katashi Hawks, at vital positions. Endo, Kobayashi, Rodela - not necessarily the biggest names at their positions in Ko-orenite history - are the perfect fit for the national team. It shows that the Hawks have mastered finding players with the right personalities at the right positions and it translates to the NT so easily. The Buffaloes have built their team a little different: they have gone with phyiscally talented players and boast the heaviest forward pack in the league, for what that's worth in rugby league. Sprinkled in between are Satomi, aging like fine wine, or Nakazono, a mechanical try scorer who gets the job done, as well as younger players from teams that are completing their retools: Kotobuki, van Lichten, Teguramori. Co Asselin is the good luck charm of the team: an incredibly physically gifted and technically talented player who makes everything look easy. His easygoing character fits into every locker room, and his competitive nature riles up opponents to do stupid things.

Substitutions
FB Ramiro Monteverde (29) Santa Teresa Sabres / Finisterre, a honest, lanky visionary.

LW Pio Tapia (22) Santa Teresa Sabres / Finisterre, a ambitious, petite gladiator.
LC Éric Perron (22) Aminey Owls / Cote Austral, a tenacious, powerful artist.
RC Kaolu Vuluse (24) Selesi Dragons / Yoshima, a amiable, hard-hitting speed demon.
RW Isamu Ogawa (29) Selesi Dragons / Yoshima, a boring, trim speed demon.

SO Yoma Muramoto (30) Aminey Buffaloes / Yoshima, a surprising, thin technician.
HB Moen de Waard (21) Santa Teresa Sabres / , a untidy, portly perfect kicker.

LO Lu Boudon (24) Aminey Owls / Cote Austral, a timid, strong turnover generator.
LS Na Matthieu (27) Aminey Buffaloes / Cote Austral, a busy, tiny tackler.
RS Tadeu Varela (27) Santa Teresa Sabres / Finisterre, a popular, buff professional.
LP Shunso Gamo (25) Alara Spiders / Yoshima, a gullible, athletic carrier.
RP Asahel Overton (22) Linieux Harriers / , a disruptive, buff carrier.
HO Naoya Wakita (26) Nitoya Foxes / Leleia, a sensitive, gigantic artist.

Here we find some young players, as well as players who have got everything except for one small flaw. A lot of Santa Teresa Sabres, who have put together a team to be feared after a few down years, or the Selesi Dragons backs who are pretty much the only exciting thing of that roster. We also find more Buffaloes, including Matthieu, who used to be the lynchpin of previous RLWC squads. Gamo is a strange inclusion, given that he doesn't impress every week, but he's got traits that complement the rest, and sometimes that's all you need.

Is it Rugby League time? Finally! It certainly has been a while, hasn't it? But finally, after a very long two-year absence, the Rugby League World Cup has returned and Quebec and Shingoryeo are the hosts this time. You might not remember the last RLWC, as it was paired up with the 31st RUWC and saw Ko-oren claim the crown in a entertaining final. Now, we enter a wacky format for this edition - 22 teams in 2 groups of 11, where only the Top 4 can advance into the quarterfinals. It certainly sounds brutal but Louise Peterson is up for the challenge, as is Captain Jack Henderson ready to get back out there and try to do some magic once more.

Rugby is the third most popular sport in Elejamie, just falling behind football (aka soccer; gridiron isn't really popular in Elejamie) and ice hockey. Although rugby union is the more popular of the two*, rugby league has a small yet loyal fanbase, especially those living inland. That being said, with a 16-2 win at the 19th RLWC Final as well as the formation of the EESL (which consists of sixteen feeder teams and two independent ones) meaning more teams in more locations, there's a good chance that the sport will finally get a bit of steam.

* Rugby sevens isn't counted here because a) it's a variation of rugby union and b) the only rugby sevens tournament in Elejamie is the ERC Sevens, which is more like a warm-up for the ERC (Elejamian Rugby Championship).

  • Remember it's AE at the beginning of Paete AEtomir's surname, as AE/ae is a letter in the Iyilim alphabet. Think of it as a bit like "ij" in Dutch. Æ is also acceptable (and it's what I used for the 15th RLWC roster). NEVER write "Ae", as that's incorrect.
  • All ages are taken from start of thread. Also, none of my characters have any birthdays coming up, so we don't have to RP any of that.
  • As always, if any of my players interest you, feel free to send me a TG saying which player you want, which club wants them and any other details (like wages, bonuses, etc.) you think you should mention.
  • "Starting interchanges" may seem like an oxymoron but, unless you choose someone else to take their place, they're basically the four players sitting on the bench for each match.

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL RUGBY UNION TEAM

Image

It’s to this team exploits Trolleborg owes a surge of interest in rugby of all kinds. After the relatively successful debut of our Rugby 7 team (successfull against the background of how our sportsmans fare in other sports), and two Rugby league team playoff finishes a serious increase in interest in all varieties of this sport has been noticed. Viewing figures was clearly on rise constantly last two seasons.

TEAM

Coach - Jesper Stromnes, 57 year
Once chosen by the vote of fans and specialists for his own, he twice led the team to the playoffs of the World Cups. In addition to the national leader and head of the country's football team, Morten Troghil, he is the only coach of anything-national who achieved such results.

In earlier years, it was necessary to ask for the opinion of experts, since most of the public knew little about this sport. This year, thanks to the growing interest in it, caused by the success of the national team, we also have the opportunity to measure the opinion of the fans. The head coach has not changed his habit of manning the offensive line with players from the northern region of the country and the defensive line from the southwest, and, by all accounts, will stick to his traditional line: defense first, but sober and active one, and using every opportunity to attack. He excluded experienced players who did not show themselves physically ready for a high pace during the last season. In the reserve, it is mainly the players who are known for their speed and maneuverability – probably the head coach hope uses them at moments closer to the end of the game, when the opponent gets tired.

Attacking Players:
1. Finbar Kjellevold (27)
2. Arve Heggebo (28)
3. Torgils Henningsen (28)
4. Comgal Rhyys (25)
5. Seamus Haldstad (26)
6. Tormod Torp (25)
7. Brogan Gwaltin (28)
8. Yungwe Rhyys (24)
Aage Lochan (23)
Johannes Lundal (25)
Finn Ansgar (24)
Torje Naustdal (28)
Lasse Bransdal (27)

Defending Players
9. Brendan Breen (30)
10. Torfinn Rantal (28)
11. Fingal McCumal (26)
12. Finjord Ringberg (29)
13. Breandan Shellebjorn (29)
Kasper Bjornebak (27)
Ceallaigh Glendwyr (24)
Fintan Quinnn (25)
Knudt Mulreinan (28)
Brander Flangon (25)
Rander Hage (23)

As already customary, our team continue to adhere to the ancient tradition for rugby competitions, it is assumed that before the start of every game team players going to light a ritual bonfire in our half of the field and perform appropriate ceremonies.

Alternate kit:

Coach: Tyrin Bancroft 33 years old

#8 Left prop: Jy-mel Jones-Bishop
Height: 6’5 - Weight: 87lbs - Age: 26 years old

Jy-mel ‘Big Bones Jones(-Bishop)’ is every inch and pound he needs to be at the left prop. Coming in at 287lbs packed into a 6’5 frame, the bigman who works as a construction worker will come in ready to push the line. Jy-mel uses his explosive strength the get some serious speed built up to ram the defensive line back just to gain some yardage. He is more mobile than his right prop counterpart, and thus Big Bone Jones is tasked with defending against opposition running. Jy-mel is big, he’s strong, he’s got a thick neck the size of Western Cardenao, he’s the perfect man for the job.

#9 Hooker: Charles Dashiell
Height: 6’1 - Weight: 204lbs - Age: 23 years old

An insanely passionate man known for screaming at his teammates and opponents in equal measure, Charles Dashiell was a footballer before getting introduced to rugby in university. His footie skills come in handy for hooking the ball out of the scrum, and he makes use of his surprisingly high game IQ for an amateur to generally make the correct decision to pass, run, or kick the ball and that will be vital for this inexperienced team from Cardenao. He’s strong with a naturally powerful built frame, while his time in youth football make Charles Dashiell very agile and hard to get a hold of.

#10: Right prop: Alexis Romilly
Height: 6’6 - Weight: 315lbs - Age: 24 years old

Big, strong, tons of biomass, Alexis Romilly is a perfect battering ram of a right prop. He’s…well he’s a bit simple of mind you see but that makes him an even better prop player, no braincells to worry about losing to might as well go full out every single time. Which Alex Romilly does very well. He does have a huge heart though, he’s always the first one to protect a teammate or yell at the referee to do his damn job. Seems like a decent guy, hope he does well.

#13 Lock: LaDamian Marley
Height: 6’3 - Weight: 211lbs - Age: 28 years old

Tall, strong, and blessed with great jumping ability, LaDamian Marley isn’t here to mess around. A career criminal whose size and build lent him perfect to…certain aspects of the criminal underworld, Mr. Marley has a mysterious background that we are absolutely not going to enquire about. Looking at rugby things, LaDamian will be pushing from behind the props/hookers, fighting for every advantage and using his height+vertical ability as the flow of play requires.

#11 Left forward: Lucrece Guadarrama
Height: 6’1 - Weight: 202lbs - Age: 22 years old

Lucrece Guadarrama hails from the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in East Cardenao and credits running up the hills all day every day as a child for his physical powers. Very quick with great acceleration, Guadarrama is a very agile forward and a great tackler, but he can be a little absentminded and run a few seconds behind the pace of play sometimes, which is obviously a problem in high level international sporting competition so hopefully he can get that figured out.

#12 Right forward: Ashton Coleman
Height: 6’ - Weight: 194lbs - Age: 24 years old

This dude is a lad, Ashton Coleman loves nothing more than a beer or three before and after a good game of rugby. Built powerfully, Coleman finds great joy in throwing his body at an opposing player and wrestling them to the ground or pushing forward in many ways like a prop. Hopefully he doesn’t show up too buzzed to any of our games, unless it helps him play better, then by all means, please drink up Ashton!

#6 Five-eighth: Kaz Perchata
Height: 6’3 - Weight: 215lbs - Age: 28 years old

Kaz Perchata’s got the size, strength, and speed that you want from your five-eighth. Kaz’s got great agility and that’s helpful when he’s running and receiving, plus he’s got a pretty high level of rugby IQ and uses that to help open up the smartest attacking avenue, that could be passing the ball away from the congested area around the tackle, further back to the outside backs, or kicking the ball for field position in general play.

#7 Halfback: Roberto Savestra
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 191lbs- Age: 20 years old

A bundle of dynamite at halfback, it’s Roberto Savestra! Acting as the first receiver, Savestra is one of the smaller members of the team, but he makes up for it by being a real lightning bolt of speed and agility, which pairs great with his soft hands and alertness when running with the ball. I’m excited to see what the tournament holds for Roberto, if he can find his feet quickly and adjust to the level of play, we could potentially have a lot to look forward to!

#2 Left wing: Harry Solomon
Height: 6’ - Weight: 213lbs - Age: 24 years old

Mr. Solomon is the fastest player out of Cardenao bar none and that’s saying a lot with the amount of speed this team has. Playing out near the touch-line, Henry Solomon uses that blistering pace to exploit the space that is created for them to finish an attacking move, and he’s got the stamina and power to do it all game long with zero issue. With his strong build and natural fitness, Henry can shrug off hard hits that would break a lesser man, and I look forward to seeing how he competes!

#5 Right wing: Romualdo Gaultier
Height: 6’ - Weight: 203lbs - Age: 29 years old

A quick and rapid Cardenaoan player?? What a surprise! No but seriously, what sets Romualdo Gaultier apart from other pace merchants is his understanding of when and how to use his speed to turn the ebb and flow in his favor. A master of the cheeky deceleration prior to sprinting away, Romualdo loves tormenting his opponents and torching them all game long. He’s got great awareness on defense to effectively mark his opposing winger, while also being a savvy kick returner to put it all together.

#4 Left-center: Conrad Du Busson
Height: 5’8 - Weight: 168lbs - Age: 21 years old

Conrad Du Busson comes into this Rugby League World Cup with some level of hype to his name as one of the better players from the underground Cardenao amateur Rugby League circuit. He’s got a stocky build and while only standing at 5’8, he’s a powerful runner of the ball and an accomplished defender. He’s a very unpredictable player and has remarkable physical coordination and athletic abilities, with an almost freakish ability to bang in goals from anywhere on the ground. Fun fact, Conrad Du Busson rarely eats before a match aside from a simple breakfast!

#3 Right-center: Gualterio Suarez
Height: 6’ - Weight: 189lbs- Age: 27 years old

Gualterio Suarez is a routine, dependable presence for the Cardenao team. He’s great defensively, always locked in and marking the opposing center, oftentimes taking them out of the game entirely. He’s got a great shoulder for tackling and loves laying the boom whenever he gets an opportunity to do so, while offensively he’s got great hands and is known for juking his opponents out of their shoes. Great lad.

#1 Fullback: Devin Wallflower
Height: 5’11 - Weight: 197lbs - Age: 27 years old

The Perks of Being A (Devin) Wallflower include being the best player on the team by nature of his split Ochren-Cardenao heritage and time spent playing the professional game across the pond in the Ochre Islands. The charismatic man with a flashy smile and a love for chestnuts will be a key member of the team from the fullback position, where he serves as the team’s last line of defense and primary return kicker. Lots of tackling, lots of catching, lots of running, Devin Wallflower is the man for the moment. We hope.

Reserves that can play in any position:
#14 Berry Pavlovic
#15 Georges Smarth
#16 Shandon Baptiste
#17 Juninho Bacuna
#18 Patrick Coco

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
National rugby league team

This will be the eighth time that Abanhfleft will be participating in the Rugby League World Cup. The team was the subject of a shock elimination at the hands of TJUN-ia during the joint Rugby World Cup tournament involving both the union and league codes in Graintfjall and Hannasea. The union team partly avenged the defeat when they beat the Jaguars in Baggieland, and now the league team will look to add a second League World Cup to Fleftic rugby's trophy cabinet.

THE CHIEFDOM OF COPPER CUPRUM
NATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM

This is the third time that Copper Cuprum will be participating in the Rugby League World Cup. Rugby league is the most popular code of rugby football in the Chiefdom, with the Copperite Rugby League being the oldest sporting competition in the country dating back to 1937. Copper Cuprum had been long isolated from the international community since it is a small island archipelago located deep in the middle of the Lazarus Ocean, far from any regular shipping lanes since man first sailed ships. The nation was only discovered by the Fleftic Navy in 1914, when they were searching for the daughter of President Rufus Wole Mensah, whose ship was wrecked in the general vicinity of the islands. Arriving in the capital of the islands, they discovered that Chief Zed had made the President's daughter his queen, generating a sudden alliance between the two countries. And Copper Cuprum was also rich in copper, so that was a good thing for Abanhfleft too...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation:
The Chiefdom of Copper Cuprum
Demonym: Copperite
Kits: Initially, the Copperite national rugby sevens team was not supposed to wear any kits as ordinary people know them. Instead they would have played wearing only white loincloths and nothing else. However, in the interests of modesty and compliance with the international standard, the Copperite team has elected to wear a new uniform with alternating black and white hoops and black shorts.
Team colors: Black and white
Style modifier: +1.00 (A balanced team with a slight focus on offense)
Head coach: Count Varozke Sifoto (52 y/o, Copper Cuprum)
Notes: It is Copperite tradition to slit the throat of a live chicken before a game and then spread the spilled blood on the field. However, after the Valladar authorities advised the Copperite Football Federation against performing this tradition after local audiences were shocked by this tradition, it has been decided that in place of this tradition, Copperite players will now cut off the head of a rubber chicken before a game and then toss the head around like a hot potato. This is the version that will be used in international tournaments. However, Copperite players will still perform the chicken sacrificing ritual when playing in the Chiefdom whether or not the other team (or the event organizers for that matter) likes it. The Copperites hope to turn this tradition into their version of the haka.

RP PERMISSIONS
  • Copperite names are different from the Western naming convention in that the clan name comes first followed by a person's name. All Copperite persons, unless otherwise specified, should be referred to by their given names (aka the second name in the order) in shorthand, because to refer to a Copperite by their clan name is considered disrespectful at best and an insult at worst.
  • Binarda Binarla is the designated kicker of this Copper Cuprum team. In the event that Binarla is taken off the field, Bitawa Hurede will become the new kicker.
  • Everything except killing my players is fair game.

Greetings, compatriots!
It's TTV right from Quebec and Shingoryeo, where Rugby World Cup was about to begins. As you, of course, remember, our rugby league (and make it again clear in mind, that rugby-7 and rugby union is different sports) national team proved herself very well in the first two championships in which she participated. Football players perform with varying degrees of success and are going through difficult times right now due to generational change and other issues that have been discussed many times (and continue to be discussed hotly). Basketball and hockey players performance was nothing short of catastrophic, and personal intervention of national leader required to change at least something. It was rugby players who gave the country the hope that domestic sports are not as uncompetitive in the international arena as it seems, judging by the results of the years that our country has been playing on it. Twice rugby league players participated in the world championships and both times reached the playoffs, however, both times they were defeated. But this is a step far ahead in comparison with the deplorable results of other teams. Let's see, at the same time, how events will develop this time. We are going to Quebec and Shingoryeo, whose team our rugby players defeated in due time, to the surprise of everyone and everyone, in Fort Lowe & Zarubino. At the championship this time there will be a long group stage, longer than both previous ones, in which our team participated, taken together, and they will have to face countries with which fate did not bring our athletes before - minus Darmen, with whom our rugby players exchanged victories in the first championship and gave way to him in the quarterfinals in the second. Rugby 7 guys have also met with Busoga in rugby tournaments, but that doesn't mean anything. So TTV organizes broadcasts of all matches of the group, in order to provide connoisseurs of the game with the necessary information and introduce all other viewers to the exciting world of world rugby. Many viewers, as we know, has difficult time while trying to figure what happened and what this means while viewing games, so we try to make what we can, and players decide to comment everything by gestures. Two fingers up big good thing, one fingers up a good thing, and so on – stay with us and we instruct you. Oh no, let’s wait with that – our players already entered pitch with their bonfire...

Tyrin Bancroft let out a sigh and pressed his jacket against himself to ward off the chilly night’s air. It was the week before the biggest day of his life and he could think of no better place to be than to head to than his local bar in the rundown Khengi district of Nuevo Santiago. It was a rainy night where the clouds sat low in the sky and mist hung to the streets, weather typical for this time of year and perfect for one to consider issues.

‘One week,’ Tyrin thought to himself as the neon lights of the dumpy city reflected off the wet street.

‘One week until the biggest night of my life.’

Tyrin paused to look up at the sputtering blue neon sign of his destination.

CoolArrow.

Tyrin again sighed as he pushed open the door and walked inside, nodding at the barkeep. No words needed to be exchanged, walking through that door was statement enough. A mug of cold brew found his hand before he had time to sit, and the first sip felt like the weight of the world getting lifted from his back. And then he remembered next week.

Cardenao’s Rugby League World Cup debut, his nation’s first ever attempt at the sport he so dearly loved. The issue though was thus, Tyrin Bancroft was the head coach of the national rugby league team and he was stressing out, which he compensated with by taking a gulp of beer.

‘What if the lads fail to perform and I don’t win us a single game,’ gulp.

‘What if this Ochren fella Devin Wallflower turns out to be shite and I've put all my hopes on a shite player,’ gulp.

‘I don’t even fucking know how this game is played!’ big gulp.

Ah yes, the truth of the matter was revealed. Tyrin Bancroft did not know or understand the rules or specifics of rugby league play.

‘Shit I haven’t even watched a single match oh God what am I doing here,’ gulp and ordered a second drink.

And it got worse for Cardenao’s rugby league team. Their head coach hadn’t seen as much as a single actual game of rugby. How did he even get this job?

‘Fuck’s sake I wish I hadn’t sent in my resume as a joke, of course when they meant no experience needed they actually meant no experience needed,’ finished off the first beer and took a gulp of the second.

Another big reveal, the manager of Cardenao’s national rugby team sent in his application as a joke? And it was accepted? What was going over there at the sporting headquarters?

‘Of course nobody else actually submitted an application. Of course it was just me out of EVERY SINGLE CARDENAOAN who put his hat in the ring. Alright alright, it’s cool it’s cool it’s cool. Still gotta week to figure everything out. I know that the game revolves around a ball and scoring points, so I’m basically already there! That calls for another drink!’

Gulp gulp gulp!

Quebec and Shingoryeo Rugby League National Team

Nickname: Grim Reapers
Acronym: QUE
Denonym: Quebecois (Preferred), Quebecer (that's fine)
Official Supporters Group: The Bubonic Plague
Style Mod: Highest Possible (usually +5, in this case +2)

Head Coach: Nell Park, 36
Lead Assistant Coach: Rasmus Josephsen, 34

Players usually come from the A-Class North Star League (NSL). It is a fully-professional league that is still a work-in-progress in organisational side of things, but at least is getting decent media coverage and players paid. Unlike with most Quebecois sports leagues, neither CSKA nor Koreana field a team in the league, meaning that there's a bit more variety and parity in terms of strengths between the clubs themselves.

This is a fairly young squad that is inexperienced on the international stage. Unlike in past years, the rising popularity of rugby league (relative to union, which has seen slight drop in popularity due to domestic disputes) have meant that there is a bit of spread across the player squad. Almost half of the players from the previous RLWC and the ARC have returned to this RLWC squad, but there is a good churn of younger talent out there.

Still, most Quebecois rugby league players either grew up in Quebecois Acadiana (a rarity now) or played union until their decision to switch to a much more lucrative NSL over Quebecois Commonwealth Rugby SuperLeague. As a result, expect the players to really focus on emphasising their physicality and speed, with teamwork one thing they plan to build over the next few years.

Scrum!: We Start With 2 Differing Games

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Nov 10, 2022 9:57 am

After the longest time, XIIIs are finally back - and so are we. The League Jaguars of TJUN-ia are making their glorious return here in Quebec and Shingoryeo and everyone knew that things were only going to get wacky. The entire field, after all, has been thrown together into 2 groups, where only the Top 4 in each can advance to the Quarterfinals and everyone will be forced into placement matches. This was going to be brutal, everyone knew that for a fact, but Louise Peterson knew that the team she had at her disposal were all good enough, as the #5 ranked team, to make it if they didn't slip up too much and she knew that Captain Jack Henderson would try everything within his power to try and guide this team as deep as he can manage...but how far will they go this time?

The journey began against debutants The Republic of Covelandia and, in terms of starting off a tournament, we certainly blew them out of the water in a big way. Not that Covelandia didn't try, they had nothing to lose and put up a hard defensive challenge. Still, they weren't going to score a point today because our forwards just shut them down completely, mostly via Kepo Kalawakawa and Shinji Ketsumoga. Our offence was simply given most of the game to pull off some magic and in the end, we managed to put up 7 tries - 3 from Mohammad Al-Kafa (nice hattrick), 2 from Captain Henderson and one each from Kiwo Makawiwa and Musa Helema - with Henderson kicking 6/7 of the resulting conversions. In terms of League, 40-0 means "one-sided" and it certainly felt that way.

After that came our first "proper" test, up against a fellow Top 10 team (and a very familiar one at that) in the form of #9 Natanians and Nosts and oh boy, this one was not like MD1 at all. Both TJUN and N&N threw barbs at each other in this contest and the winner of this game wouldn't really be decided until the final hooter went off. It was one of those games, where the defences were certainly trying to make things tight and both teams had to fight for every possession and in the end, the final 10 minutes would be very key. Before that point, both sides were tied at 20 a piece thanks to 3 tries, 3 conversions and a penalty goal. For reference, our try scorers were Vincent Leclerc, Steve McGoey and Shinji Ketsumoga while Captain Henderson went 3/3 on conversions and made that penalty goal. The final 10 minutes would see great drama as N&N scored a try, only for the conversion to be missed, while Logan Jacobson scored with about 2 minutes to go, meaning Henderson now had to effectively walk off the game with his feet...which he did to pull off the 26-24 win. The celebrations were certainly deserved and this great win pushed us to 2-0.

These games are coming thick and fast, so 3 matchdays will be covered in the next edition of Scrum! - which will be our duel with #3 Copper Cuprum, a test against #45 Galliena and our mandated bye. Three matchdays, two games and only 1 place to see them all...right here! GO LEAGUE JAGS!

Dragonfly fans will immediately be drawn to two fixtures on the list: Darmen and Elejamie. The nature of the tournament means that we'll play plenty of high quality opponents in Trolleborg and StrayaRoos, with a lot of newer teams in the middle of it. With rugby league being a sport that tends to punish skill differences between teams, we expect that we won't have too much trouble with the unranked teams but we're looking forward to being proven wrong.

Ko-oren's bruising forward pack is ready to slow down any attack, with a focus on good communication - we're not a team that'll get punished by having too few players to the left or right of the ball. There is some vulnerability on the outsides. Nakazono and Rodela like to go for intercepts and can drift inside a bit too much, leaving the space on the touch lines open for a high, floating pass. Endo can cover for a lot at the fullback position, but he needs some space between the defence and the try line to make it work.

That's where the substitutions come in. A crowded calendar with more games than we've ever played at the RLWC means that no matter how fit a player is, you can't play 10 games in such a short amount of time. Tapia is a more defensive winger who plays it safe and doesn't try to go for flashy intercepts, for one. Maybe there's more weight on the bench than on the field: Matthieu, Varela, Gamo, Overton, and Wakita are all huge human beings - and that's our second choice. Paired with Boudon, who rips the ball from small attackers, complements the bunch.

It didn't all click immediately, with Acadiana bravely repealing most Ko-orenite attempts. A 55-metre intercept actually put them on the board first, and with the easy conversion between the posts, that's 6-0. The second half was all Dragonflies with a try, conversion, field goal to get the 7-6 lead, but with the clock ticking down to 80 we got our second try for 13-6. It was a much better oiled machine in match two, Ogawa in place of Rodela, and Muramoto instead of Kobayashi. The latter had an immediate impact: the Dragonflies opted to play off the stand-off/five-eighth rather than go for quick passes from the halfback/scrumhalf. The extra time that took was a tradeoff, but the attacks it set up were more than worth it. Ogawa is insanely fast and with Muramoto getting the ball to him more easily than Kobayashi could/would, it led to two tries directly, and once the defence shifted to give us more space on the rest of the pitch, we ran the score up to 40-4.

Small changes keep making big differences, and as the team develops and our gameplan predicts our opponents, hopefully we can get close to a third RLWC.

The Weird Stat

Rugby league fans are hoping for a third RLWC title, but a decent subset of Ko-orenite sports fans are hoping for a different outcome. It turns out that Ko-oren has lost every major tournament final out there - the pain versus Nephara in World Cup 87 being the most recent heartbreak - except the Rugby League World Cup. And the Handball World Cup, but we can only lose that final if we compete in the first place. The next biggest tournament that we have not lost a final in, especially to Ko-orenites, would be the Aussie Rules World Cup.

Tyrin's Temptations

Yessss! Victory, sweet sweet victory! The man cackled to himself as he jumped around the room.

‘They doubted me, they all doubted me, shit I even doubted me but here we go!’

Tyrin Bancroft was ecstatic in his little celebratory dance in the cramped hotel room he was in, and he had every reason to be so thrilled. He had just guided Cardenao to her first ever victory in her first ever Rugby League match and he was flying high because of it.

Tyrin put the dollar bill up to his nose and took a long inhale as he moved the opposite end through the blue powder that he laid out on the countertop. Okay maybe the reason he was flying high was because of the copious amounts of CAD-E Tyrin had taken straight to the face. The Cardenaoan party drug was always there to help a good time become great, and Tyrin Bancroft was having a great great time celebrating his success.

Cardenao’s first ever international rugby league match, at the World Cup no less. The opponent had been Talannua who he hadn’t heard of before but then again Tyrin wasn’t exactly a worldy fellow. He didn’t even know how to play rugby but he knew one thing, how to motivate others.

‘Okay lads, this is it. This is the moment, this is your moment. When you woke up today, it was the start of a new chapter. When the referee blows his whistle…listen men, you are the star of a movie. This is the part of the movie where you face your biggest adversity…so far. Where this cruel multiverse tests you, and the opponent will treat you like shit, try to destroy you physically and mentally. But it has to happen this way. Otherwise, at the end of the movie, at the end of this World Cup, when you get everything you want, when we win the World Cup, that won’t feel as rewarding. Our opponents are out there, but in the end, they don’t matter. Because this movie, this World Cup, it’s not about them. It’s never been about them.

All this time, the movie’s been about you.”
And with that he had stepped back.

Tyrin was ripped back to the present as the song changed. Gone were the deep bass sounds of the psychedelic rock band Atavismo and was replaced by a weird tribal-EDM mashup by a group out of Banija and the national team manager was here for it, bobbing his head in time as he helped himself to another line of CAD-E before helping himself to a glass of water. Gotta stay highdrayted of course!

‘I’m the fckn man!!! I’m gonna fookin win us the World Cup!!!”

‘That was a fun time’ Tyrin thought to himself. It was the day after the match against The Ochre Islands and his mood was substantially less jubilant than it had been after the victory against Talannua. The Ochrens were a tough foe, deeply rooted in rugby proficiency to the point of being the 22nd best team in the world and the neighborly status of the two countries and their shared history meant it would be an entertaining affair.

Tyrin felt halfway decent going into the match, he’d finally figured out how scoring works. Or so he thought, nobody seemed to really notice that he had no clue about rugby rules.

Turns out the best thing was this thing called a try, that’s when one of the players touches the ball to the ground over the aptly named try line of the opposing team. A try is worth four points and turns out Harry Solomon is really good at trying tries, so that made Tyrin’s job that much easier.

After that came the conversion, a play worth two points. Conversions occur after a try, the scoring team is given an opportunity to score those two points by kicking the ball in from a position directly related to where the try was scored. The ball had to go through the posts and above the crossbar to count.

There was the drop goal, and Tyrin really liked this one. That’s where you drop kick the ball through the posts and it can be from anywhere on the field, that was good for one point. That was a sneaky sneak sort-of play and it was right up Tyrin’s alley, he wasn’t quite sure how just yet but he knew incorporating tactical drop goals would be key to future victories.

Finally, there was the penalty goal worth two points. This came after an infringement where the team awarded a penalty can take a kick at goal and gain two points if it goes through the posts and above the crossbar.

So that was good, now Tyrin knew how the scoring system worked in rugby and that’s half the battle!

Unfortunately, the Ochren team actually knew how to play rugby, not just how the scoring works, and there was no surprise as they comfortably ran to victory. Tyrin leaned back in his chair. That being said though, the final score of 31 to 25 was much closer than anyone could’ve predicted, thanks to a great performance from the half Ochren Devin Wallflower.

Tyrin wasn’t exactly sure who Cardenao was playing next, he couldn’t read after all, but he did have a good feeling!

The Rugby Rundown (Rugby League Edition)
with Graham O'Doherty

RUGBY LEAGUE WORLD CUP 21: SO THAT'S THE EASY PART DONE, APPARENTLY

Hello guys, and welcome back to another edition of The Rugby Rundown League Edition with me, your gay Irishman Graham O'Doherty. Well, those were a couple of crazy games of rugger, weren’t they? The past few days have seen the 21st Rugby League World Cup wrap up its first two matchdays, and let me tell you, it really looks like Abanhfleft is once again on the ascendancy. I mean, how else can you explain two consecutive victories for our Revolutionaries in the first two matchdays of any given sports tournament, let alone a World Cup? Granted, both sides that we beat were two of the three unranked teams in this tournament, so it probably wasn’t that big of a surprise that we beat them both. Or maybe it actually is a surprise. We all remember the times when despite being the clear favorite, Abanhfleft would get their arses handed to them by such and such a debutant team that’s only going to make one appearance in a given tournament and then disappear from the rest of the multiverse, right? Yeah, I can hear the Man from Markovsky getting triggered over someplace called Nilrahrarfan once again…

But how did Abanhfleft put itself on the right foot when it comes to the Rugby League World Cup? I mean, I would like to say that it wasn’t easy at all, but for our first match against Cossette, it absolutely was. The Cossette team looked like they were ready, willing, and capable of playing a game of rugby league, but I guess our boys just took them by surprise with their speed and strength. I mean, when you think about it, we’ve been doing this rugby league thing for a good amount of time now. It was probably almost inevitable that a new side is going to be taken by surprise by a team such as ours. Of course, there have been exceptions, but thankfully that hasn’t happened. Yet. But to get back to the real topic at hand, how did Abanhfleft beat Cossette, and handily at that? Actually, I think I’ve already answered that question earlier, but just in case you guys missed it, I’ll say it again: we took Cossette by surprise with our speed and strength. There. That’s it. That’s your answer. Our boys were both too fast and too strong for Cossette’s players to handle, dumping 28 straight unanswered points on those poor fellows in the first half before following it up with 23 points in the second. The poor guys didn’t even know what hit them! In fact, it got so bad that our boys actually felt enough pity for them to let them score a handful of points near the end just to make it a bit easier for Cossette to swallow. At least our boys decided to become charitable with only 12 minutes remaining. It would have been both embarrassing and completely in character for us Flefts to absolutely dominate a match against an unranked team only to give them a way back because we felt really bad for them.

Things aren’t so cut and dried for our second match against Talannua though. Unlike Cossette, Talannua had had some experience with rugby before, and although it’s in the union side of things, I would still say that they’ve got a better handle at the thing than Cossette did. Therefore it makes sense that Talannua would prove to be a tougher opponent for the Revolutionaries than Cossette did, and that’s probably what made victory against the team in teal, or green-blue, or seafoam green, or whatever color it actually is, all the more sweeter. We took the lead first, as was expected of us, with Gregorio Castro landing the first try of the game. However, almost as if to prove to us that this game was going to be much different from our first one against Cossette, Talannua broke past our lines and scored a try of their own. Not just any try though, but a converted one as well. They really were determined to show that they were nothing like Cossette, and thankfully for me and my fellow Abanhfleft fans, our boys gave them the respect that they deserved. And then we scored a second try before the end of the first half to show Talannua just how much we respected them as an opponent. And I don’t mean this in jest at all. I truly believe that scoring more tries, or points or goals or whatever a sport’s score is, against an opponent is a surefire way of showing that you treat them like equals, because you’re willing to do all of that just to grab the victory over them. Am I weird for thinking like this? Maybe. But no one’s questioned it before so I guess I’ll continue doing it.

Abanhfleft immediately picked up where they had left off in the second half against Talannua by scoring their third try of the game. This time it was Ned Admire who caught the offload from Felix Tan and skirted past the defenders before circling back to as close to the uprights as possible to make it an easier conversion for Peter Akiyama than it would have been had he just grounded the rock right at the corner. But, I mean, credit where credit is due, I guess. Talannua didn’t fold. They continued to push against us, and though most of the time we were able to keep them out, our stubborn defense sadly couldn’t hold on forever, and the team in green scored for a second time. And while I just said that Talannua deserves some credit for not giving up in the face of a very stubborn Fleftic defense, our own team deserves some credit of their own. It would have been absolutely easy for them to just lock down the field and keep Talannua from scoring the third try that could have tied the game because they could actually do that (both Talannua scoring and us defending), but our team knew that they couldn’t take that chance. It was always going to be better to score more points and increase the lead rather than take the chance that the other team wouldn’t be able to increase their own points tally whether your team has anything to do with it or not. And that was exactly what Zackary Sarmiento did: score a try for the Revolutionaries in his first ever appearance for the team.

But now the easy part of the Rugby League World Cup is over. Over the next three matchdays, we’re going to be right in the thick of things. First up, our Revolutionaries will be against the Ochre Islands, and then we have to play the hosts Quebec and Shingoryeo. Yeah, our rank may show that we are the second best rugby league nation currently in the competition, but that hasn’t stopped us from dropping points from these games like nobody’s business. And while I of course expect us to win against these two teams, I also expect both the Ochres and the Quebecois to give us our toughest tests yet. Again, this isn’t a knock on either Cossette or Talannua, but when you compare them to the likes of the Ochre Islands and Quebec, I mean, you just can’t. Our Revolutionaries are gonna be right in the thick of it, and only time will tell if we will emerge from this period unscathed or if we will have to do some soul-searching and navel-gazing once again. We might need to do some of that anyway, but I’d rather not do it under a cloud of potential controversy in terms of us bottling some games in the Rugby League World Cup after taking the lead in our group. XOXO from Graham…

Scrum!: A Tough Loss, A Nice Win And A Bye

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Nov 12, 2022 11:56 am

After a blowout in The Thunderdome (Prince Eric) was followed up by a close one in Mount Rose Park (Bongohdong), the League Jaguars of TJUN-ia were 2-0 to start this long campaign and they were certainly about it. Both the demolition of The Republic of Covelandia and the tight win over Natanians and Nosts were reminders of both the guts this team had and the magic the XIII of us on the field could create. Louise Peterson would comment that she was very happy to be back and very happy with the performances her team had produced so far...but the road is still long and treacherous and the team had to be careful not to think themselves into a false sense of security.

Up first was a return trip to Prince Eric to face #3 Copper Cuprum, one of the titans of the sport whose name carried a lot of weight around these parts. Count Varozke Sifoto coached this Top 3 team this time and the game that the Jagaurs and the Copperites played would be nothing short of incredible. We managed a sturdy 24 points in this game, with our 4 tries coming from Andre le Grand-Et-Haut, Kiwo Makawiwa, Peter van Groen and Captain Jack Henderson, who then go on to make 4/4 Conversions. It was a good day...but the Copperites managed to do better and managed 31 points with 5 tries coming from Kafuda Zinorok (twice), Anupi Bitale, Chikuzu Zonarso and Ferosa Pasamu with kicker Binarda Binarla managing 5/5 on conversions and even a drop goal. In the end, 31-24 to them is how it finished...a loss, sure, but a good game all the same. We showed our strength against a better opponent. Now, we've gotta prove we can join them in the Quarters.

Back to Bongohdong for game 4 against #45 Galliena, who were 0-2 heading into this contest and looked like an easy opponent on paper. They did end up scoring 7 points in this game via a try, a conversion and a drop goal, but we were in bounce-back mode and were simply too good on the night. We ended up with 5 tries via Mohammad Al-Kafa (twice), Shinji Ketsumoga, Logan Jacobson and Tepu Tukomena while Captain Henderson managed to go 5/5 on conversions and 2/2 on penalty goals. That meant a 34-7 win and that meant we would enter our bye with a 3-1 record and 6 points on the board.

The bye would mean we are currently in 4th, 2nd in a 6-point train on PD alone, and with 6 games yet to play, we still have plenty of time to try and boost our position in the table. Three games will be coming up for you to enjoy starting with unranked Cossette in Bonghodong, then to Prince Eric to face unranked Talannua before it's back to Mount Rose Park for the final time to face a direct competitor in #22 Ochre Islands, currently level with us on points. Where we will both stand by MD8 remains to be seen but no matter what, a bumper edition of Scrum! shall be forthcoming. GO LEAGUE JAGS!

Ko-orenite Rugby League - an all-time team

Fullback
A position that's always been very highly valued, in both attack and defence, probably more so than in other countries. Often our best player is a fullback, with unending stamina and great vision, a good tackler and someone who can direct the troops to where there's space. After all, nobody has a better view of the situation than the fullback, operating a few metres behind the line. Two names come to mind: Cedric Gallagher, the older of the two Gallagher brothers and winner of our first RLWC title. Blai Kaplan, force behind the second RLWC title and current star on the Etouille Vultures.

Wingers
Not just the guys who overlap and score: you need some defensive prowess and balance to make it to the Ko-orenite national team. We have had scores of good players, but to name a few who really went above and beyond: Kiaran Fletcher, Sean Harper (both from our first winning team), Gogo Abbadie, Isamu Ogawa (from the second winning team), Afonso Teixeira (ancient history).

Centres
Helping out the halves in setting up attacks, but above all they should be tenacious tacklers and must be able to stop line breaks - even after they've happened. We've had prolific try scorers at the position, and we've had tackle machines there. All-rounders (who are a little bit undersized) thrive at the position: Gary Peregrine, Takahira Satomi, Éric Lambert, Yoshinori Shimizu. One from each era. And then an extra one from the ancient days. Shimizu's career might not have been the longest, especially not to the tune of Lambert's, but he was unique in the way he played the position and raised the bar for everyone who came after him.

Halves
Meticulous planners and a good sense of space, and extremely accurate kicking. Halves are never asked to do a lot defensively, so they can take that time 'off' while figuring out the best way of penalising the opponents once we get the ball back. They inevitably fall in one of two categories: the respectable captain of the team, or scrappy gamesmanship. The former are usually the better kickers and passers and have a knack for ending games with pristine jerseys. The latter finds space when the defence isn't watching and doesn't mind getting a nasty tackle in the process. In the first category: Valentin Parent, Shunmyo Fujioka, Olivier le Blanc. In the latter category: Adair Sims, Yoma Muramoto. The latter somehow don't get the same longevity.

Forwards
Yes, they have different tasks and strengths. In the end, they're mostly seen as the tacklers and carriers that do the work in well over 50% of all plays. Stopping, starting, going to the ground, and doing that over and over again. Hookers take on slightly more important duties, most of the time, but it's often the more versatile and better players who end up at the position, not the other way around. The first and second rowers do the majority of the tackling, while the lock is allowed to be a little more frivolous in play - that, or he's an absolute bruising forward that we couldn't fit on the first line. They can have pretty long careers, and we have a decent amount of legends appearing at the position over the years. Hooker: Tane Preston. The rest mostly excel at their clubs and we've seen a revolving door of hookers on the NT lately. Heavy tacklers: Gwilym Merrick, Nathannaël Germain, Marcos Laza, Baris Bran. Lighter tacklers: Sancho Prieto, Finn Clarke, Rémy Martin, Leonardo Costa, Na Matthieu, Tadeu Varela, Videmune Mori, Nana Levasseur, as well as Spencer West and Marin Gaudin.

Mihaly’s Machinations (Part V)
(Part I, Part II, Part III , Part IV)

“Well for as good as the Cardenaoan national rugby league team did in their historic victory against Quebec and Shingoryeo, they looked just as bad in their 37-17 loss against Abanhfleft. We’ll cut them slack though as Abanhfleft is the second best team in the multiverse, while our team is quite literally all amateur lads plus the Ochren league player Devin Wallflower, who has been rightly impressive it must be said.

In other more important news, the Cardenao National Football Team beat World #9 Brenecia 3-0, securing qualification to our first ever knockout round. To this I must say, FUCK YES!!!!”

President Mihaly Otamendi turned off the sporting report playing through the Presidential SUV’s speaker system.. Mihaly had just gotten done with a very important video meeting with the Trade Ministry of Tumbra. The first shipments of Cardenaoan iron and coal had reached the Tumbran shores and the Ministry wanted to express their gratitude. Yes, the Tumbrans had depleted their natural stores, and thus there was opportunity for Mihaly to once again advocate for Cardenao and drag his country more into the modern age.

Eastern Cardenao, the San Gabriel Mountains especially, were home to a rich source of iron and coal, and it was time to put that to work. To that end, this marked a years worth of preparation, from properly surveying the area to training and contracting a working force to actually extracting and refining the materials before loading them up on huge boats that also had to be constructed. It was actually a great national project, and President Mihaly had undertaken sweeping executive action to create a sort of ‘National Campaign’ where citizens were almost drafted by the government to perform certain functions, though the compensation and benefits were extremely enticing (for Cardenao standards anyhow) to make it worth their time.

Nobody was really sure if Mihaly had that sort of authority but at this point the man who was building the modern country had ascended beyond some sort of political figurehead as President. No, he was rapidly becoming an almost deified individual thanks to his charisma, what he done for the country, and how he was progressing Cardenao into the modern era. In short, nobody knew the limits of Mihaly’s power, and nobody cared as long as the good times kept coming. And so he put the country to work, hiring tens of thousands of citizens on public wages for the public good by getting iron and coal shipments put together and sent to Tumbra.

And now, Mihaly breathed out, success. The call with the Ministry of Trade had confirmed that, with Minister for International Trade and Development Julian Smith particularly appreciative and looking forward to future collaborations.

But that was enough of the politicking and the machinating, now was time for something incredibly special as the Presidential SUV honked its horn at the massive crowd in between them and their objective.

Mihaly was in Centralis, Electrum for a very important event.

It was the World Cup Final between Zwangzug and Banija, and Mihaly had been invited to Banija’s Royal Box to watch the event live. He was now caught up in a huge crowd of people, a mix of the sports crazy people native to Centralis, fans of the two finalist teams, and the general World Cup fans for whom this tournament was a religious event and attendance at every game was required. It was brilliant and Mihaly could feel the energy through the tinted windows.

‘Ah to hell with it, nobody here knows or cares about Cardenao,’ Mihaly thought to himself.

“Señor Marley please stop us here, I’m walking the rest of the way,” the President of Cardenao said as he opened the door and got out, with his security detail hurrying to get around him. He didn’t care though, Cardenao had just qualified for her first ever knockout round event, he had just personally overseen Cardenao’s first ever foreign trade shipment to Tumbra, and now here he was in Centralis, Electrum celebrating Banija’s apperance in the final.

The sound of the banijan drums were electrifying, pounding out the tempo for he and the other Banijan fans to dance down the street to. He didn’t understand a word of what they were saying, but the way the Banijans sang, danced, and celebrated was all that he needed to see. Being a politician, he threw himself right into it, mimicking their words, their gestures, losing himself in the moment.

After some time with the crowd a couple few classic Banijan ‘refreshments’, Mihaly was feeling loose and ready to take in the event when he reached the front gates of the iconic Olympic Stadium. He was stopped, not without his security entourage giving the poor stadium employee a rough time for stopping a foreign VIP, but Mihaly brushed them away as the man was just doing his job. He showed his credentials and his personal invitation to the Royal Box.

President Mihaly of Cardenao was escorted to his destination, and made it about halfway before he was greeted by Omugabe Ssekamanya, one of his dearest friends in the world. Ssekamanya embraced Mihaly, and they excitedly caught up like friends seeing each other after a while do.

The pair reached the staircase of and walked up to the Royal Box. There Mihaly saw Kabaka Mwanga, who the Cardenaoan warmly yet respectfully embraced and gave his good wishes for the final. Kabaka Mwanga gave his praise to Mihaly for his work in navigating the trade agreement with Tumbra, while also celebrating Cardenao’s recent qualification for the Cup of Harmony knockout stage. He may be elderly in age, but nothing got past the Kabaka.

As the Great Moment drew near, the kickoff for the biggest event in the multiverse edged closer, Mihaly felt a tug at his shirt.

He looked over and saw Mwagna smiling at him.

“As I told you, now, my friend, it is my turn.”

Acadiana the Wiki Project - Part 1: Introduction

Image

Acadiana is an island country located in the far-western Esportiva. It consists of two major islands - the Garigal Island on north and the Riverina Island on the south - as well as several hundred, semi-inhabited islands on the south. With about 697,000 square kilometres, it is considered to be the largest nation of the Quebecois Commonwealth by area. Acadiana is about 300 to 400 kilometres south of Sylestone, its nearest and largest neighbour, and about 1,000 kilometres east of Paripana, the easternmost and the nearest nation of Atlantian Oceania from Esportiva.

The country's contrasting topography, with the north island's heavy, mountainous ranges contrasting to that of the south island's flatter, more agriculturally-prosperous grasslands, is due to the ancient, continuous history of tectonic shifts and climate change over the course of past millennia in Wester Esportiva. Garigal is the capital city and the most populous city, which is then followed by the cities of Murranbulla, Baie-Saint-Germain and Brolga Ridge.

The Indigenous Acadianans' ancestors were the first to arrive in Acadiana over 40,000 years ago. Settling into what is now considered the contemporary Acadiana and its northern neighbours of Sylestone, indigenous Acadianans would evolve a clear, distinct identity and culture as the Acadianan people of several dozen distinctive, language-separate tribes. Over time, they would establish a quiet but strong footing across southwestern Esportiva, establishing settlements on the islands to its south and west. In 1701, the Quebecois settler Kim Shim-Ran would be the first non-Esportivan settler to record the islands. In the subsequent decades the Quebecois fishing settlements would be established, and the settlements' population limited to hundreds.

In 1802, a young warrior, Butu Wargun (Wallace) united Acadiana into a kingdom. Around this time, a series of conflicts between the Acadianan Kingdom and the Quebecois settlements, then under increasing encroachment, would occur, and would only be resolved forty years later under the Treaty of Karagi (also known as Sandcastle). The Treaty were signed by both the Quebecois and the Acadianan representatives with promise that there would be no permanent representative on the Acadianan soil past the Quebecois Consul (eventually renamed and reformed into High Commissioner position, which continues to this day) on the Quebecois front, while the Acadianans would adopt western code of law and land rights.

Over the subsequent decades would follow the gradual Westernisation of Acadiana, with Acadiana's strategic location used to expand its agricultural sectors. The 1864 marriage between Elisabeth of Quebec, and King Harold, the grand-son of aforementioned Butu Wargun, would ensure its strategic significance and Acadiana maintained its sovereignty. In 1897, Kingdom of Acadiana was declared, fully transitioning into a constitutional monarchy after a gradual process that had begun in the days of Butu Wargun, and remains to this day.

Today, Acadiana has a population of 28 million people, and is considered a home to diverse culture, languages and influences from all across the Quebecois Commonwealth and Esportiva. About 40% of the population are the Indigenous Acadianans, who come from dozens of different tribes across the island nation, while the remaining population consists of the Quebecois (usually standing for the Koreanophone-Quebecois who immigrated in the mid-1700s to mid-1900s) and Caucasian (white Acadianans), and multiracial background. It is a highly pluralistic country driven by its culture and symbols coming from the Indigenous peoples and the Koreanophone settlers. Korean and English are used as official languages, while local vernacular tongues are used for public life and broadcasting.

A developed country with a long, complicated history, Acadiana has an advanced economy led by agricultural and service industries. The quality of life in the country, while varying between the regions, has stayed relatively high, and the cohesiveness between the ethnic and cultural groups is stable, encouraged by the centuries of political isolation from the rest of Esportiva, while being considered a major Commonwealth nation. Acadiana is a member of the Quebecois Commonwealth of Nations, and has served under various advisory, and mediatory capacity of the Commonwealth that is dominated by member nations from Atlantian Oceania and Rushmore. In following the examples set by its northern neighbour of Sylestone Acadiana has, at various points, considered joining the Esportivan Community and remains open to such a possibility.
