LOZHO'S PREMIUM HUTS AND SHACKS INC PRESENTS...

The 1st Annual President's Birthday Cup!

Are you a cricket fan? Are you a football fan? Are you a fan of the President? If you answered YES to all three of those questions, this cup is for you! In honour of the President turning older by yet another yes, a grand festival will be held in his honour, in addition to various sports tournament!

The Schedule:

  • Day 1: A giant carnival will be hosted outside the MegaOval MegaMall, with bouncy castles, burger stands and troubadours all around for entertainment. Big prizes to be won, especially a Jamborzhini 4500, which you can wind by keeping your hand on it the longest! Check out a football match at 7pm between the West Barack and East Obama National Team and a secret guest!
  • Day 2: The carnival will still go on, and this time a great concert with rapper 'The Obamasaurus' making her solo debut! Check out the T20 match between Lozho and a special guest, in addition to a football match between the Lozho national team and - you guessed it - another special guest!
  • Day 3: The carnival reaches its last official day, with prizes being auctioned off if not claimed at the end of it all! A thrilling T20 match between the West Barack and East Obama national cricket team and a secret guest will be hosted, and the third place playoff between the losers of the previous two football matches will be occurring right here in Ghezhan!
  • Day 4: It's the birthday! Enjoy a Birthday Sweepstakes sponsored by Lozho's Premium Huts and Shacks Inc., with the top prize being a classy shack in downtown Shezhen. A massive military parade will be hosted right in the MegaOval, where the President will be making his VVVIP appearance! The final match between the two winners of first two football matches will take place right afterwards at the oval! We swear we can work out the logistics of this.
  • Day 5: It's the final day. Check out a thrilling T20 cricket match between the winners of the two previous games, right at the oval with a hundred thousand fans roaring in support! Or they'll be jeering. Also, a scavenger hunt sponsored by NordVPN will be hosted in Ghezhan, with the winner being rewarded a subscription for one month!

All matches will also be broadcast at premium fees on the BBC and the LBC. Check out more about this event at lozhospremiumhutsandshacksincpresentsthe1stannualpresidentsbirthdaycupsofficialwebsite.com.

A massive cloud of cricketeering future looms over Wanda Hosaka, as Grim Reapers continue their outstanding start

Emeline Wyatt

SONGAK, SONGAK- Four years ago, a white-haired teenager with streaks of red, blood-ish hair gave a brief press conference at the Songak’s Charles Merton Regimbault Airport, to introduce herself to fans of the emerging Sylestonian Crash n’ Smash league.

The conference was fairly quick and casual, fitting the cricketer’s character, but would end with the question fitting her attitude to the sport- Where do I see myself down the line? Hosaka, then 19 years old who had just spent two years playing for her hometown Songak Falcons and the Songak provincial side, had said without a single doubt: ‘Greatest white-ball batter this country has ever seen.’

To hundreds present at the conference, it might have been a difficult one to answer. But that’s understandable when considering the appeals of white-ball cricket on the international level. In the past decade, the IFDC-level competitions have seen far greater numbers of participating associations in Twenty20 and List-A, two competitions viewed to be less prohibitive in cost, time and accessibility, than First-Class cricket, where only five associations have participated in the most recent cycle. At the same time, the relative infrequency of the GCF World Test Challenge, which happens every six to nine years, would suggest the economic realities of the four-five day format.

Growing up in the working-class neighbourhood on Songak’s predominantly-Francophone north end, Hosaka had little exposure to test cricket while growing up. While cricket did not suffer the malaise of the plague that is paywall in Quebec, test cricket does suffer from the high access barriers that involve ‘time’. So, unlike fellow rookies Barnes and Jang whose background has made them grow up with the legends of the test/First Class cricket, Hosaka is part of a generation of cricketers whose interests are moulded partly by the faster, more aggressive pace of other outdoor sports competing for the interests in the biggest cities - baseball, gridiron, lacrosse, you name them.

Hosaka is more than aware that she has so far stood out as ‘the flash’, as she would say on a promotion video with ‘Stallion’, Quebecois cricket bat and other apparel brand, before this Twenty20 World Championship. So far Hosaka has played an outstanding, Twenty20 season with Bedham Dogs of Sylestone, while also representing Songak on both the AnaiaLife ODI Cup and ‘The Six’.

Hosaka, however, intends to retire from domestic First Class and possibly eye appearances in Acadiana, the southern, Commonwealth neighbour of Sylestone, or even a 100-ball tournament. While there has been no announcement on her playing future, which she intends to make it public after Quebec and Shingoryeo’s eventual elimination from contention in The Sarian, many allude that it is influenced by her apparent talent on the white-ball cricket.

There is no doubt Hosaka is talented. While the leftie batter did not hit a century, her remarkable consistency with the ability to reach half-centuries on batting and filling out the intangibles of the team. Thus the unexpected pre-season signing of Betham, with still a year to go before the third ODI World Trophy held in Brookstation and Ko-oren, had ended up earning the fifth spot on batting order at the Team of the Year selection.

With this in mind, not to mention her solid performance at the AnaiaLife Cup, there’s no doubt that her incoming decision will come with a particular weight. More often than not the Quebecois cricketers have been a peculiar bunch, with cricketers either focusing on Twenty20 or the other two, longer formats, but even then those considered to be of national-level talent have played all three formats domestically. The current group of Quebecois cricketers excelling in The Sarian, for most part, have played First Class as well, and the younger group of players are expected to continue the same path down the line - both domestically and abroad. So whatever Hosaka’s decision may be, whether just opting out of First Class or completely from the Test cricket, will become one for many to watch.

With this in mind, Hosaka’s decision will end up being impactful, though to what extent remains to be seen. It is going to be a move that many players of comparable calibre at her age or younger, who have not been so public about this question, will note and discuss over next while. Considering that Hosaka not suggesting once that she would not represent Quebec and Shingoryeo for the Test cricket, Quebecois Cricket Board and its selection board will require a think-through on whether there’s a way for her to come back.

Hong Sook-Yeong, the team’s head coach and a member of the Selection Board, has not left such a possibility out at the very least. ‘Do we have enough talent to consider leaving out somebody whose career vision is slightly different than ours?’ answered Hong when asked about the looming decision. ‘No, no and no. In the end it all comes down to how much Wanda would want to be part of it. I’m sure that nobody would want to be left out of the historic Ko-orenite tour of Quebec, especially at the Royal Cricket Ground.’

Hong is absolutely right here. The pool of talent available is also going to be a massive factor entering the historic Test series and afterwards. For what is worth about pride and whatnot, there is an expectation among the Quebecois cricket community that avoiding embarrassment, rather than standing their prideful ground, is a key concern.

And no matter the QCB’s disdainment towardsTwenty20, and some traditionalists’ view towards what has been the excessive commercialisation of the game, which they could call themselves as the victim of their own success over the past decade, any kind of international success would be viewed as a positive.

In essence, Hosaka’s probable decision to stay away from First-Class cricket may end up being a wise one. Unlike in other provincial clubs and associations, namely Inteachan, Joongyeong and Acadie where there exists a stronger preference for red ball format, Songak’s deeper talent pool (does not mean a stronger one, mind you -e.d.-) and more change-friendly board would mean that it would be unlikely a player at Hosaka’s calibre would be in trouble with her respective provincial board over whether she would be ready for the AnaiaLife Cup season.

This also benefits the player and her local club - the Betham Dogs of Sylestonian Crash N’ Smash - as she would be able to rest more between domestic matches and train at a more manageable window. Thus playing a concentrated season abroad for a year, which would then be followed by loose, List-A schedule for two years, makes sense from that standpoint. With Hosaka’s financial sums earned in Sylestone and sponsorships rumoured to be substantial, it would benefit the young cricketer as well.

Hosaka, while known for her strong remarks, have not said much about it however. Being a Quebecois, whose stereotype involves not talking about money in public, she kept low with financial aspect in past. ‘Do I think that travels between two countries can be a challenge sometimes? Yes, but we sometimes have to make decisions and preserve our own careers whenever possible,’ she would lightly put, noting that the First Class cricket can be a time-related and financial challenge at times, especially on bigger nations where the scale of play - Eastfield Lodge has 38 sides in a commonwealth of 2 billion people - is simply daunting on own. ‘We have to think about how we live and what we can achieve in finite time, and make decisions about it.’

But there is no doubt that Hosaka knows her own worth, and that her trajectories, so far, have been more than positive. Her unorthodox, power-hitting style, when combined with excellent intangibles on the field, has made Hosaka one of the most promising white-ball hitters in the SAREMA regions of the Multiverse. With this in mind, her looming decision at the end of this month would mean something big. Whether as Saint-Paul, leading the way of ever-developing Quebecois cricket, or Judas, as traitor to the traditionalists’ cause, remains to be seen. Still, there is no doubt that we have a generational talent whose words and actions can be trailblazing, as controversial as she may be.

    Reversiblechocolatestalin: reeemember the name!
Or don't, because even by my usual standards that's a particularly stupid one

Terg Reversiblechocolatestalin made one of the most memorable debuts in Gruenberger cricketing history as he crashed a 39 ball hundred in his first appearance wearing the green goat-enabled cap. Hitting 7 sixes and 10 fours, the young batter seized his opportunity following failures by Spikkin Jshkhrrrlllclx, and powered Gruenberg to a 45-run win over Wolfstruppen at the Pingstrand Cricketgrond in Wilaamstad.

While the result was never in doubt once Gruenberg had amassed 207 runs in their innings and then struck in the first over of Wolfstruppen's reply as Naffineffiniffinoffinuffi Syzygyswallower induced a tame prod to point, Wolfstruppen initially made a game of the chase, only to be strangled by spin twins Hraff' Tumcoweiss and Quouodan Skejjibox, who combined for a miserly 1-44 off their combined 8 overs. Sharpness in the field -- including a stunning chest-high snatch standing up by Ystipug Contemnible, and a quick-thinking run-out by Ettexinor Broimbles -- further contained the Wolfstruppen batters, and Brigveger Grovan found late swing to clean up the tail for his first four-wicket haul of the tournament.

However, Transportflowmap Renkauer bowled only two of his allotted overs and left the field with a suspected shoulder injury, putting him in doubt for Gruenberg's remaining group stage match. No replacement has yet been called up, but Ke Ke did rule himself after injuring himself with a slipped disc after answering the phone to receive a call to be put on standby. Boy, I really flattened that joke with a sledgehammer.

Stumps!: Things Look More Doable Now

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Nov 17, 2022 11:23 am

After we finally got back to winning ways against Lionsroar, the Jaguars of TJUN-ia were 2-2 and knew that if they wanted to sneak into the Super 12 stage, they would need things to certainly go their way and promptly. That was just the reality they found themselves in here in The Sarian and everyone knew it. Virat Indushapa didn't want to give up however and knew that if things just started to go their way, the Bowlin' Jaguars would be back in contention in no time at all. All they needed to do was just keep playing their best cricket...and hope for the best.

Klifzijde in Oud Saarum has certainly been a great venue for us, with the picturesque landscape hosting 3 of our group games this far, but this contest against fellow 2-2 side Lozho would be our 4th and final one...and we certainly hoped to end this run on a high. We won the toss but this time, we opted to bowl first - meaning Zumba Zander would have to send out Tim Crawford and Zhill Zohnzohn to kick off the contest. Lozho may be debutants, but their 2 wins thus far indicated that they were, at least, a team with some good players in it and that would definitely be seen here in this inning. Andrezh Drezhen was the captain of this team and he show us why in this game, putting up an excellent 46 off 33 to put his homeland in good contention to win this match. On our side of things, we certainly tried everything we could to limit their scoring opportunities and we did manage 7 wickets here - 2 each from Peter Kylasov, Ahmed Ali and Captain Roger Ntini with the 7th coming via a stumping from Gabriel Miziara. In the end, Lozho made it through the 20 overs on 158/7 - a not-bad score at all, especially for a debutant.

That meant Jason Walkins and Logan McGarra would step up to chase down 159 and while things certainly weren't easy, it was actually smoother than you'd think. We only lost 3 wickets in this Chase, with all three thanks to some superb bowling from Gordon Hinckley, while the batting was just...impeccable. All you need to know is that Ntini managed 88* and Walkins got 34 in as well as the run total just kept on climbing. With 4.1 overs to spare, a boundary would signal the end of the contest and a 7 Wicket win for the Jaguars to enjoy...and for good reason. With both New Gelderland and Liventia, it meant that 3 teams were ow level on 3-2...so things were certainly on now.

Beestjebeek in Chypenberg will be where we play next, a small pitch with some unique boundaries to try and exploit. Our opponents will be the final unranked team we'll face in 1-4 Greaterburg. Hopefully, we can keep the pressure up heading into a big game on the final matchday...but this sport has thrown us off before. We have to be very careful. GO BOWLIN' JAGS!

Kriketti-ajatuksia 2-V: Back To Winning Ways

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Thu Nov 17, 2022 2:58 pm

Viime kerta ei ollut hauska, vai mitä? One day, you're 3-0 and on a magical train filled with wonder and amazement...and the next, it all get's derailed by a team of Obamas. Länsi-Barack ja Itä-Obama (West Barack and East Obama) reminded up that while we are flying high right now, things could just as easily fall apart if we allow that to happen. Lorcán Ua Tuathail knew this too and while the loss was certainly a tough one to take, the Karhut still controlled their own destiny...and right now, that was more important than anything.

Back to Turfmarktstraat in Lyntveld we went to play #38 Indusse, who were struggling at 1-3 and looking to bounce back quickly. Indusse would win the toss and elected to bat first, which we were actually OK with since the smaller boundaries could be managed with the right skill set in mind. This inning was...confusing, as we somehow managed to actually handle this team pretty ok despite the circumstances. We only managed 3 wickets, 2 from Lina Lehtovaara and one from Saima Eskola, but the dot ball certainly helped us out here and would help contribute towards setting the tone for the day. In the end, Indusse managed 151/3 - a decent score by the batters, but one which could be overwhelmed if the pace is certainly there.

So out came Albert Aaltonen and Wäinö Tykkä looking to chase down 152...and my word, the play we managed here was just...interesting, to say the least. I don't know what the strategy was entering this inning but apparently, it was just "Mene ulos, älä vain ole liian haavoittuvainen" because that's exactly what happened here. This run chase took 14.4 overs, with both Lasse Pöysti and Jukka Paarma managing 30+ runs each, but my goodness, this was expensive and the 7 wickets we took only goes to show how many risks we took with the bat and how gun-ho we suddenly were. We still won the game of course, by 3 wickets with 5.2 overs to spare, but maybe we could've just not tried to collapse then maybe, we'd actually be feeling better about this.

Still, a win is a win and with that, we're still towards the top of the standings on 4-1...on debut. Yeah, it's hard to forget that this is our first-ever T20 tournament and we're somehow just...playing like we belong here. The dry pitch of Statparc in Oostelund will host Match 6 vs 1-4 debutants Ylä-Nasa (Uppen Nasa). If we can in that...then maybe, that will be enough. It's fucking crazy that we, Kimi-Suomi, could make the Super 12 in our T20 debut...and yet, here we are. Me suomalaiset rakastamme yllättämistä, eikö niin? NOSTA KUIN KARHUT!

SYLESTONE ASSURES FINAL 12 QUALIFICATION WITH ASTONISHING COME-FROM-BEHIND TRIUMPH

TUCANVIUL, THE SARIAN - What a day in Sylestonean cricket. Some will say they saw it coming. Many will say they knew it could happen, but refused to believe it. Most will say that it was an upset they never expected despite the Hawthorns’ superb start to the tournament.

But what everyone can agree on is that no one truly believed it was going to happen until Samuel Asaskia carved Josh Huws over cover into the advertising boards to take Sylestone to 8-169, hence surpassing Liventia’s first-innings total of 3-166. Especially when, at one point in the fourteenth over, the Hawthorns were 6-97, needing another seventy runs from just forty balls at over ten an over.

For the first time in the tournament, the selectors’ choice to elect a long batting lineup filled with all-rounders has paid off. And up against top oppositions such as the Liventians, we can expect that it may not be the last. Yes, the Hawthorns will be facing further top oppositions because due to the triumph, they have now officially secured a Super 12 berth.

But why focus on the future when you can dwell on one of the greatest days in a nation’s cricketing history?

Other than the obvious tactical decisions that played a massive role in the Sylestonean win, a lot of players stood up and performed superbly despite the lack of a standout player, always keeping their nation in with a sliver of hope. While Broughton Hall (2-24 from four) and Liam Afosha (1-21 from three) were the wicket-takers with the ball, the tight lines and lengths of Samuel Scron were also pivotal, conceding just 25 from his four overs, including a maiden early on in the innings - one that ultimately led to Hasegawa’s dismissal. With the dry pitch turning a fair amount right from the outset, it was of no surprise that all three Liventian wickets fell to the tweakers, while leg-spinner Kate Sonnel had a rare off day, conceding 38 from her four overs without achieving a breakthrough. Thanks to Hall, Afosha and Scron, the Red-and-Gold could only muster a final total of 3-166, with a large portion of those runs coming on the back of Peter Finch’s unbeaten 76, while PJ Trouvé also chipped in with a handy 48, the pair combining for an 86-run partnership in 61 balls after the Hawthorns reduced the Rushmori nation to 2-30 just outside of the powerplay.

Like with the ball, multiple batters stepped up to the task and completed their share of the work and without them, a Liventian victory would have been assured. Luke Tiati’s 35-ball 47 provided the backbone of the first-half of the innings, while Nicholas Lovia chipped in with a handy 28 as the pair compiled a 51-run partnership following the early failures of Brianna Eastwood and Lachlan Cocrine. However, a collapse of three wickets for two runs across the space of seven balls almost snuffed the life out of the Sylestonean innings, the Hawthorns falling from 3-95 in the thirteenth to 6-97 in the fourteenth, in need of an epic comeback if they were to achieve two points and remain at the top of the Group C table.

While most people had them written off, many were also aware that Ashton Stealom and Samuel Asaskia were not your regular lower-order batters. Both bat in the middle-order for their respective franchises and often produce match-winning knocks there, while they have produced innings of similar quality in the first-class and List A scenes too. And once again, they showed their worth here at Brijtbai Parc in front of a sell-out crowd of 12,300. In 26 balls of chaos, the two power-hitters combined for a critical partnership of 52 to swing the game back in Sylestone’s favour.

But the match still had some twists left in it. Two, in fact, to be exact. The first of these came in the antepenultimate over, when Matt Goudreau’s sublime throw from deep mid-wicket found Stealom millimetres short of his ground, with Brendon du Pont’s lightning glovework playing no small part in the dismissal. Then, the very next ball, a Josh Huws yorker shortened Broughton Hall’s stay in the middle to just a minute, the Hawthorns slumping from a comfortable position at 6-149 to 8-149 in the space of two balls.

With Stealom and Asaskia at the crease, 19 runs were required from 15 balls. Three balls later, it was 18 from 12, Samuel Scron somehow surviving another corker of a delivery that managed to weasel its way past the off stump. One twist down, one to go. One that would ultimately provide the underdogs with the two points they so desperately desired.

18 from 12 became eight from six at the end of Ryan de Cerci’s fourth and final over, Asaskia facing up to Josh Huws as the 24-year-old stood at the top of his mark, taking an eternity to decide the exact field positions of his men. But while you may be able to place players anywhere you want on the field, you cannot place them in the stands. If you were, Samuel Asaskia may not have been able to get away with his shuffle across the stumps and flick over square-leg but alas, such is cricket. Six more runs to the Sylestonean total as eight from six became two from five, with Liventia in desperate need of a wicket. One wicket, and the game changes, for Sylestone would be nine down with two runs still needed but one boundary - or even a two - and it would be all over.

Huws nearly delivered the former. As Asaskia shuffled across his stumps again, looking to repeat the shot, the right-armer threw in a quick yorker, nailing it on the spot. Asaskia later said that he “had no idea how his bat hit the ball” and that he “thought he was a goner”. If there are any Gods, though, they were certainly on his side, as the ball squirted back to Huws.

Dot ball. Rinse and repeat for Liventia now, but instead, they were one ball closer to victory.

They would not get there, though. Expecting Asaskia to complete the same movement, Huws threw in another off-stump yorker, only to watch in despair as the ball bounced two feet short of his mark as Asaskia took a step to the leg-side, clearing his front leg in a bid to slam it over cover to the unguarded to boundary. And complete that he did, the white cherry bouncing on the turf once before screaming into the advertising boards surrounding the boundary as the blue-and-orange segment of Brijtbai Parc rose to their feet, celebrating with sheer jubilation, while the red-and-gold portions sat in stunned silence, not willing to believe what they had just witnessed, attempting - and failing - to wake from their nightmare.

But what was happening out on the pitch was truly happening. Sylestone were through to the Super 12, with Quebec and Shingoryeo the only other team across all four groups to have qualified so early, although Ko-oren all but through with a perfect record. Meanwhile, Liventia, TJUN-ia and New Gelderland were all equal on six points, with Lozho and Darmen knocking on their day. Five teams fighting for only two spots, now, and there was real risk that the multiverse’s second-best T20I team as of the last GCF World T20 Championship were going to be unable to make it out of the first group stage.

BBC OFFICIAL REPORT: Cricket Managers Storm Out Of Uppen Nasa Humiliation

By Cricket Correspondent David B.O. Chase

Oostelund, The Sarian - After a sweltering afternoon in which the Obamen lost to Uppen Nasa by 35 runs, the Obamen head coaches Hank Zobama and Chris Scabama had very little words to say when interviewed at the post-match press conference.

"A fucking disgrace, that's what this is. Absolutely disgraceful, I don't even want to talk or think about it. The rotting tomatoes out in our dumpsters deserve to be thrown at this performance." were the only words Zobama uttered when I stuck my microphone in his face. He then proceeded to march away from the press conference area towards the exit, not to be seen for the rest of the evening. Scabama was nowhere to been seen, as he had already departed the stadium entirely about halfway through the Obaman innings.

Of course, such a reaction is completely fair. The Obaman performance was atrocious, and made worse by the fact that Uppen Nasa weren't that much better, but still good enough. As one of the few opponents that made West Barack and East Obama's amateurs look great in comparison, winless Uppen Nasa were expected to be an easy win for the Obaman, who were on a high after defeating group-toppers Kimi-Suomi.

The Obama Carers won the toss and elected to field. Certainly a poorly made decision by Trent Vobama, as he and everyone else forgot how to defend during the first innings. Perhaps it was complacency when throwing easy balls at the Uppen Nasa batters to achieve easy 4s and 6s. Or perhaps it was clumsiness and inattentiveness during catching, where daydreaming fielders were completely zoned out when cricket balls were coming towards them. Or perhaps it was tactical misfire on the part of the managers, who seemed to be more focused on promoting their latest 2-for-1 tomato gazpacho deal on Twii.tur. In any case, Uppen Nasa took all the chances they could get and managed to score almost 200 runs, and were in fact very sloppy with their batting (having almost lost all of their wickets during the match) and could had easily demolished the Obamen by a wider margin had they been more clinical.

Now, onto the Obaman batting... you know what? Fuggedaboutit. I also don't want to think about this game anymore. Let's think about the next two - Baggieland and Gruenberg, both highly ranked teams. If the Obaman continue to play like they did today, expect winning margins of 200 runs for those two teams. If performances don't improve anytime soon, expect Zobama and Scabama to 'disappear' sooner or later when they meet up with their government liaisons.

"Mr Victor and Mr Zerox, you may enter the President's chambers now."

It wasn't Jerry and Bartholozew's turn yet, but they had been waiting long enough. They rushed into the prestigious oval office to meet the President himself, who had called a special meeting (along with about 20 other special meetings on the same day. Whoever ran his calendar is definitely going to the dungeons later.)

"Oh, you two! Come boys, sit down." The President motioned for the two to sit on the chairs five metres in front of him. Ten armed guards surrounded the oval, ensuring no funny business went down.

"So... how's the construction of our stadium going?" He asked. Jerry and Bartholozew stared nervously at each other. Was this a rhetorical question? Would a certain answer trigger a trapdoor below the chairs into a crocodile-filled pool?

Bartholozew finally mustered enough courage to answer. "It's going... fine."

"Oh! Brilliant. Well, you could make it even more fine by speeding it up a little. Actually, by twice the speed. We have a friendly game coming up in a couple of weeks and I need the whole thing done by then. Or else you two are fired. And worse." The president grinned. Jerry and Bartholozew were shocked.

"What... we get fired? But the construction is all up to that idiot Raj Zhaozhamhra! Blame him instead! He's been holding up construction the last few weeks with his liberal working hours agenda and all that. He-" Jerry began protesting, but the President cut him off.

"A taste of power and you become insolent? How dare you. I have a right mind to press the crocodile pit button right now, but I'm feeling nice today." The President fumed. "Let me be clear. I don't care if Raj, Waj or whoever can't get it done. YOU're in charge. And I don't trust you two buffoons enough to give you any of that "plausible deniability" crap, so it's your asses if all this falls apart. We all clear now? Now get the hell out of my office if you know what's good for you. Scram." Jerry and Bartholozew ran as fast as they could out of the oval office, right past the real Mr Victor and Mr Zerox, until it was safe to make a few calls.

Raj was munching on his BLT sandwich from the Golden Tomato when his phone started ringing. He smirked as he saw the name 'Jerry' on it. "Hello?" he answered.

"Raj, we were wrong. You were right. Tell all your workers to haul their asses back to work. Do it NOW. And we might need more workers, more construction materials, whatever. Anything you can do to speed up construction, say it and you'll get the funds." Jerry spewed out frantically. Raj replied with an 'alright' then hung up, glad that his plan worked. Things were back to normal.

One national team, feeding on six regional teams, which in turn feed on local cricket clubs. All six regions have a competition, but that's not all: four minor regions also have a small competition going on. Let's focus on the six competitions ('second tiers') and the other competitions ('minor regions'). Their formats, the standings, and some fun facts.

Second Tier

11 Argyle Cricket Club 11 4 0 7 0.364
12 Strathworth Cricket Club 11 3 0 8 0.273

West Surbourneshire overlaps with the minor region of Grainshire. In fact, it's very difficult to pinpoint what makes a team West Surbourneshire or Grainshire. That's even to the point that multiple towns have one team in both: Ansonville has Ansonville CC in the second tier and the Springlands Lake CC in the Grainshire Minors. Brighthaven CC is seen above but Redberry, named after the general area, is in the Grainshire Minors. The same goes for Oceanside, whose CC finished 3rd above and the West Argyle CC enjoyed some mediocre finishes in the Grainshire competition. Strathworth CC finished last in both the One Day competition and in T20s, which is not a very common sight, especially as Strathworth is the birthplace of some of West Surbourneshire's bigger talents. Lastly, there are two away trips that most teams dread: away at Wolfwater or Brunet means you have to take a ferry from the mainland, but it didn't look like the home advantage helped them much.

Mawryshire's cricket culture is quite different, as the only place where spinners are noticeably more numerous, and where losing overs due to rain (or other conditions) is almost a given. Two teams tend to have slightly better weather, and that's due to them lying slightly east of the Mawr peninsula and sharing a climate with Grainshire/West Surbourneshire: Cerryrhos and Dindall. Dindall is also the most remote town to have a team, with the exception of Penstead. Penstead is not a small place, but one look at a map of Ko-oren tells you why it's a tough day out. Mawrystwyth finished last in One Day and first in T20, a testament to the weird week-to-week changes that happen in Mawryshire. The big rivalry is Mawrystwyth vs Llandy, which pulls some of the highest crowds of non-top tier cricket.

12 Dalmington Cricket Club 11 3 0 8 0.273

While Willowbourne has the smallest area to pull from - it's just one city, about half the size of Greencaster at that - but seeing as it successfully asked the national board if it could include teams from elsewhere, the Willowbourne catchment area turned from the smallest into the largest region overnight. Some of the 'out there' inclusions are Norille and Anarcourt, which is a hell of a rivalry in itself, as well as Linieux, which lies even beyond the two other bickering cities. The city of Willowbourne is home to seven teams: Penshaw, Swadlincote, Tohrenna, Cresthill-Harmstead, Dalmington, Auctermuncty, and Camreault. These three teams share three different venues (most days) and none of them get to play in the Royal Oval. Linieux is still debating whether it likes baseball or cricket more. Rivalries within the city of Willowbourne are numerous: Tohrenna versus anyone, Swadlincote versus Auctermuncty, Cresthill-Harmstead versus Penshaw, Swadlincote, or Auctermuncty. Dalmington and Camreault kind of get along with everyone.

The smallest area of them all, as Greencaster is just a city, but they've got a larger population to choose from than any other region. Like the Willowbourne league, seven teams are from the city while five are from beyond city limits. Marinwood, normally part of West Surbourneshire, is pretty much a suburb of Greencaster now so their teams moved into the Greencastrian system - they're Marinwood CC and Regenton CC. That's probably the tamest derby of them all. Kingsfield, Abingdon, and Caringmeadow are the other three. As for rivalries among the other seven, you'll have a hard time finding two teams who are friendly to one another, and scathing remarks by players in local media, clever banners, and lots of mankads highlight those matches. Sydberg versus South Sydberg goes a little beyond that, but it never leads to anything criminal at least. You'll also find that the non-Greencaster teams tend to rank pretty well, as the top three teams in T20 are from outside.

Leeshire has some teams that do not comply to the [geography] CC rule. Maethoru - yes, the capital of Maethoru, which is nearly a hundred km away - can call itself Dhudhonin, while Aubury can use the Kings as a nickname, and Idyllwild is so far removed from the region of Leeshire (Maethoru notwithstanding) that it appends the region name which is about 60-70 km away to the city name. Eaglebury and Eleanor - yes, the Eleanor that is also a minor region - are teams from West Strand Riding and have similar conditions to Mawryshire, making the Leeshire Second Tier a hell of a clash of styles. Basically, if you see a scorecard that makes zero sense from any Second Tier, it's probably Leeshire.

Lastly - in multiple ways - is East Surbourneshire. No longer the cricket hotbed but still an important supplier of pace bowlers and dry, flat tracks. Two teams compete from the lush north side of East Surbourneshire - which is Cote Austral, not East Surbourneshire - are Gregnan and the Révolutionnaires, who do not like to comply with naming conventions. Moonbright, Onilens, and Alwill Et Kenningrath, are all from central Surbourneshire, which is often (rightfully) seen as a fairly empty space full of farms, and, apparently, four towns. Cirelbourne versus Bruncester is the big one, typically hauling in the biggest crowds across the Second Tiers. Gemwright is also from Cirelbourne - as in, it needs a stadium to play in - but usually employs players from the region outside it.

Amandine goes all the way from East Surbourneshire to Aminey, making its region larger than most Second Tiers - anything to get enough teams together to enjoy some weekends. Addeau-Aguemin and Cote Austral are from Aminey, while Central Surbourneshire, as the name suggests, should probably have been in East Surbourneshire, and Ninevehtown is in Bruncester. The collections of teams will get weirder and weirder from here on out. The Amandine Minors have the smallest crowds, usually, outside of Ninevehtown.

The Eleanor Minors basically take everything that the region of Leeshire forgot about. Several towns that lie between Leeshire and Idyllwild - which are both in the Leeshire competition - are in here instead: Eidikuna, Wild Point, Hollowfield, and Iduleiku, which confusingly play in the towns of Dahrinu, Dewsbury, Haedleigh, and Iduloren, respectively. Corralong (in Tarrashall) and Narrawoo (in Weyarra) have the same Mawr conditions, except colder - so losing overs or playing 'home' matches away is common.

Plenty has been said already: this is the no mans land between Leeshire in the north, West Surbourneshire in the east, and Mawryshire in the west, and maybe Eleanor to the northwest. That said, some places double dip in West Surbourneshire and Grainshire (as noted), and then there's a town called Cherrytown which casually named its team Grainshire CC.

Well removed from any other cricket club, it's the capitals. Insin and Torkhega from Gehrenna - which is ridiculously far north - or Irisontha and Senoren from Senoren. Maethoru CC does exist, and it's here, while the Dhudhonin are in Leeshire. Mayara CC is from the city called Mayara, after which the league (and the region outside the capital cities) is called.

I know there's the whole thing going on but I'd already started on this scorecard by the time it was announced, so I'm posting anyway. Additionally, sorry for the lack of RP; I woke up this morning feeling shite after sweltering in the heat for many hours yesterday and I doubt I'll have the motivation to churn out something other than this.

Mmm. The tomato soup today was pretty good. Raj Zhaozhamhra downed a glass of a Tomato Potato cocktail as he finished off his lunch at The Golden Tomato. With even bigger paycheques arriving due to the 'acceleration' of the construction project, he could afford to eat there everyday and he was enjoying it. Tomorrow he was going to try the tomato sauce pizza special, and it was going to be great.

Raj got back into his Jamborzhini and drove past the construction site again. Good, the cranes were hard at work. Structures were being built. It looked a bit different though. He swore that the workers wore yellow hard hats instead of the orange ones. And why was there a 'Lozho's Magnificent Flats and Blocks Inc' logos all over the cranes? Raj pulled over once again and demanded to speak to the foreman, who was a different man this time.

"Yeah, apparently, your guys were too slow so we were hired to help expedite the construction process. You can find your construction workers helping to dig up the parking lots." he said.

"Well, whatever. I've got a contract, so I guess it's the government's loss." Raj scoffed.

"Not so fast!" someone interjected. Raj turned around and saw a dishevelled looking man in a tracksuit, who also had a briefcase for some reason.

"Who are you? What are you doing on my construction site? I'm not getting a health and safety violation penalty for this crap." said Raj.

"Well, it's my construction site. Not yours." the foreman interjected.

"Sir, I'm Buck Obamafinakis. Legal counsel for your employers. In the fine print, it says that the money you receive would be scaled down to which part you construct. From now on, you'll only receive money for building that parking lot only. Which is... well, not that much." the mysterious man replied.

"Fine print? Let me read that." Raj grabbed a file of papers from Mr Obamafinakis' hand. He read it and sighed. He couldn't believe Jerry and Bartholozew figured out the old 'small print' trick. Those scumbags. It was time to end this once and for all. He called for a meeting at the Golden Tomato at 12pm tomorrow. At least if he lost everything, he could enjoy one last scrumptious tomato-based dish.

Jakartington WB, West Barack - After limping their way to a resounding defeat against Baggieland, the West Barack and East Obama National Cricket Team have been officially eliminated from the 15th T20 World Championship with one more match to go. The rumour mill has been busy speculating about the futures of managers Hank Zobama and Chris Scabama. Would the promising performances against Indusse and Kimi-Suomi blossom into great results given more time? Or would the disastrous defeats against Uppen Nasa and Baggieland mean that they're misusing the Obaman talents? Or would the final match against Gruenberg decide their fate? Either way, the hot seats are getting much warmer and here are three of the most likely candidates to take the job of West Barack and East Obama's cricket coach should the position be vacated.

Number One: Gellon Lobamas

Gellon Lobamas is an uncompromising fossil of a petrochemical factory boss. He's tough and takes no nonsense, and could be just the man to whip the national cricket team into shape. He instils discipline by denying bathroom breaks to workers, but also has a jovial side when he tweets the funniest shit ever. Would be a good pick.

Number Two: Mark Hobama

There's been talk of this ancient fossil hanging up his groin pad and getting a role in the dugout. At 58, it's only a matter of time before his hip breaks and he'd like to prevent that. His wealth of experience in playing cricket will be a great help, and would help to advance West Barack and East Obama tactically. A problem would of course losing a great bowler and needing to replace him, but he could work that out.

Number Three: William Obama-Hempstead

A controversial pick for sure, but everyone is thinking that current fugitive and former manager could make a spectacular comeback. Through a series of presidential pardons, Obama-Hempstead could steady the ship with his IBEA assistant manager skills, and his life on the run would had equipped him with even more skills. We're not sure what, but they could be useful.
Sonnel is the place.

Stumps!: All Or Nothing For The Final Match

Postby TJUN-ia » Sun Nov 20, 2022 10:39 am

After beating Lozho in our final group game at Klifzijde, the Bowlin' Jags of TJUN-ia had now won back-to-back matches and were back in contention in the race to the Super 12. Virat Indushapa knew that his side had the potential to come out of this situation with qualification secured, but it would certainly be difficult no matter what. The mantra has certainly felt better since the back-to-back defeats, however, and Indushapa had a simple message to rally the team with: "If fucking Kimi-Suomi can make it in, then so can you!"

Our opponents today would be debutants Greaterburg, who entered today 1-4 as they looked to avoid finishing dead last in this group. We won the toss and considering the short boundaries here at Beestjebeek in Chypenberg, it was an easy call to bat first and send out Jason Walkins and Logan McGarra to start proceedings. Considering the circumstances, this should've been an easy innings to continue our quest for the Top 3...but clearly, the Greaterburg bowlers had other ideas and simply tore us to shreds with the ball. Our best numbers for the day belonged to Zawar Ahmed with 34 while one of the opposing bowlers managed a staggering 5-44. It was just...chaos. And we were the ones being torn apart. We ended up on 150/9 after what had to be the worst inning of our T20WC thus far.

151 was the target we had to defend and considering the short boundaries, things would go one way from here on out. We did have a bit of fun with the ball as well with 7 wickets - 3 each from Rohit Rajpore and Peter Kylasov, 1 from Captain Roger Ntini - but in the end, we just couldn't do enough to stop the numbers the batters were managing to do. They reached their target with 5.1 overs to spear...capping off an embarrassing performance from us all around. Do you know what's funnier? Both Sylestone and New Gelderland lost, so we actually moved into the Top 3 despite losing. What the fuck is this tournament?

Now, everything is clear...and everything may become painful soon enough. The dry pitch of Brijtbai Parc in Tucanviul is the setting and the opponent is #2 Liventia in a 2nd vs 3rd showdown. We have to win to ensure that we make it in...simple as that. We will certainly be the underdogs...but with qualification on the line, we must fight. Kimi-Suomi made it...now we have to join them. GO BOWLIN' JAGS!

Kriketti-ajatuksia 2-VI: WE ARE GOOD!

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Tue Nov 22, 2022 10:33 am

After we just managed to beat Indusse in a bit of an expensive run chase, the Karhut of Kimi-Suomi knew that if they managed to just keep winning no matter what, then a spot in the Super 12 of this T20WC wouldn't be out of the question. That is a statement no one really saw coming after 5 games, even despite our remarkable debut in the ODIWT last year, but this team has certainly been a discovery and a half ever since they joined the GCF and it's certainly fun to see. Lorcán Ua Tuathail certainly has this team cooking at the moment and with two games to go, no one really knew what to expect.

The dry pitch and short boundaries of Statparc in Oostelund would host our contest with Ylä-Nasa, also known as Uppen Nasa - a team who entered today 1-4 as a fellow debutant. Our opponents actually won the toss and decided, with little much option, to bat first. That decision was understandable, the conditions certainly favoured the batter and getting a good score to defend seemed like a good strategy...ja sitten puhalsimme ne pois vedestä. Normally, this wouldn't be a bowler's field but in this match, our bowling attack was just fucking incredible. Signe Hyppia and Saima Eskola both managed 3 wickets, with the final one of our 7 going to Mika Linnankoski, but the main weapon of choice would definitely be the drop ball. 8 of the overs, nearly half the game, would be maidens - which is certainly unheard of in a format like this one. It was like adults vs children out here and in the end, we managed to hold this team to a remarkable 101/7 - which, in cricket terms, is a bowling beatdown.

Chasing down 102 sounds pretty simple, but we would take no chances considering what happened against the Obamas on MD4. The goal was simply "don't fuck it up" and in that regard, we did what we needed to do. We did take 3 wickets but with the target being what it was, that was OK. Captain Wäinö Tykkä did manage 34* while those around him did the rest. In the end, we managed to cross the line after only 8.4 overs...an absolute demolition. The celebrations were wild, but for a good reason. This win was enough...and at 5-1, we won't be denied now. Kimi-Suomi, on debut, would be going to the Super 12 Stage. This sport was so foreign to us last year...and yet, here we fucking are.

One more game to go, up against #14 Laukkumaa (Baggieland) at the Pingstrand Cricketgrond in Wilaamstad, a place where the coastal setting allows for the swing to take effect. This game won't matter towards qualification...but it will towards overall seeding heading into the Super 12. Finishing a group 1st on debut sounds like a dream...and we want it to become reality. NOSTA KUIN KARHUT!

Emergency goatlift to support team on move to Sylestone

Gruenberg assured themselves of a place in the Super Twelves with a commanding victory over group stage hosts The Sarian, but met with alarm news that organizational difficulties had caused a late change to the knockout rounds, which will now be played in Sylestone. With inadequate goats laid on for the team, the country's special forces unit the Exceptionally Goat-enabled Operations Team (EGOT) have been drafted into assist in an emergency goatlift to provide requisite levels of goat-enabled support for the team in Sylestone. The move has also prompted a stern missive from the Viziery reminding players of Wenaism's injunction against recognising non-human intelligence, with an unmistakeable subtext prohibiting fraternisation with the "sapients" of Sylestone fame.

However chaotic things are off the pitch, on them, the Green Caps can look back with satisfaction on their most complete performance to date. Batters who had previously struggled for serious runs found the small boundaries and flat pitch of De OvalNationaal in Bondstad to their liking. Zambuimmi Hengtridan Jr. put some indifferent form behind him with a stroke-filled 76 off 49 balls to set up a 55 run powerplay; Hraff' Tumcoweiss (29 off 15) made his first substantial contribution with the bat to help add another 100 through the middle overs; before Ystipug Contemnible, who had yet to put bat to ball seriously in the tournament, smashed an unbeaten 38 off 13, adding nearly 60 off the final four overs in concert with new sensation Terg Reversiblechocolatestalin (28 off 10). 215-7 was a monstrous total and represented the team's best showing to date, with only the form of opener Nurples Honk and strike rate of middle order batter ! the lingering questions.

In response, Naffineffiniffinoffinuffi Syzygyswallower and Brigveger Grovan supplied yet another high class opening combination with the new ball, and Syzygyswallower swallowed an easy return catch as the dangerous DeSaari looped a leading edge back. But yet again it was the spinners who excelled for Gruenberg. Quouodan Skejjibox ripped through the top order with two high class wickets, trapping Ruitdekker with a quicker smurg ball and then having Vioolspeler well held by Grovan at short fine leg after top-edging a sweep to a slower squuffle-quim ball. The Sarian's chances of chasing were fading as Charlemagne and Zeunier consolidated for the fourth wicket but fell behind the rate; Zeunier eventually slogged Tttttttttwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeelllllllllppppppppp to mid-on, well held at the second attempt by Skejjibox.

Then Tumcoweiss took over. He slid one past DeBruut's inside edge for an LBW that would have been overturned, but DeBruut -- who had dropped two catches in the field -- ended his miserable day by trudging off without a second glance; then Contemnible held a fine catch at chest-height to account for Zwarte, The Sarian's last chance of hitting their way back into the game. A diving catch off Grovan and a sharp stumping standing up to the medium pace of Tttttttttwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeelllllllllppppppppp (playing instead of the injured Transporflowmap Renkauer) completed a fine day for Contemnible. Charlemagne, the only Sari batter to offer serious resistance, ground out a 50, but the chase never sparked to life.

With qualification assured, Ettexinor Broimbles may be tempted to experiment with his lineup for the final group stage game. Honk has flopped badly and younger batsmen could be give a chance to open, while the seamers will be wrapped in goat fur.*

Overview

Sylestone is a tropical island nation located in the far west of Esportiva, southwest of Cyborg Holland and north of the S.U.S Islands and Quebecois Acadiana. The nation itself is home to roughly 30 million residents, made up of humans, the famed Sentient Objects of Kirkham, and even wild elves and sentient animals. The nation is one of the prime tourist destinations in the entirety of Esportiva, with a huge variety of attractions, including world-class beaches, rainforests, reefs, and even deserts. You can not forget Felton Island, located a couple of hours by ferry off the coast of Chamberley, where everywhere you look, there is something amazing to be seen in the island’s dense rainforest. Sylestone is also well-known for its efficient public transport system, with interconnecting railroad tracks and metro systems in all major cities, making the train the most predominant way of getting around for the majority of the population. Cars may not be banned at all, but they are rarely used and when they are, they are fuelled by electric power. The economy is led by the tourism industry, as alluded to above, although the dairy industry is also significant in size, alongside others. Everything in the nation is run by renewable power, with massive solar and wind farms located in the grasslands in the far east and west of the island.

The humans of Sylestone are typically friendly, but are always looking for a way to pull a secret little prank on you. Many are unafraid and rush headlong into things, but most have a cautious side to them, too, although nigh on everyone is determined. For Sentient Objects, they may be slightly more reserved, but once you get to know them, they are certainly a joy to be around. The legal drinking age in Sylestone is 21.

Sylestone’s official classification may be a “Stone”, but in reality, that pretitle is basically synonymous with “Republic”. The nation’s president is a literal refrigerator and is a member of the Toilet Party, the party in power for the past fifteen years straight. The Toilet Party is famous for its pacifism - something the nation is generally famous for on the world stage -

The national animal of Sylestone is the Margaret; a human-like, hooded creature that is found sparingly across all parts of the island. Many sports players like to pray to the animal before they take the field, a superstition of which is universally renowned to give you good luck. Whether this is true or not remains questionable, but it certainly seems to somehow work, along with burning an amount of the national currency, the Rubber Chicken. This is another superstition many elite Sylestonean athletes insist on carrying out, and the amount of money burned depends on how vital the win must be. Fortunately, no one has gone broke just yet by doing this, but it’s only a matter of time.

Sylestone is roughly 700,000 km square and generally takes about 15-20 hours to travel by car from Garretty in the northwest to Kirkham in the southeast. However, it will only take two if travelling by aeroplane and ten if catching a train. A physical map of Sylestone can be found below and we hope you enjoy your stay in paradise.

Dangers

Sylestone may be beautiful, but like many tropical countries, it is not without its dangers. The nation is full of snakes, spiders, jellyfish, big cats and many other deadly predators. Also watch the Mwimbi Bimbi fruit that will kill if touched, let alone swallowed. It looks like an ordinary plum but with thorns on the stem. Remember to watch out for elves in the Melville Rainforest surrounding Emacuton and Chamberley, they will kill anyone who seems to cause disunity. And whatever you do, do not offend the sentient objects of Kirkham…

Q&A about the Sentient Objects of Kirkham

Q: How do the ovens cook their food?
A: Easy. All they need to do is get someone or something to put the food inside them (many have mechanical arms, etc.), and then they themselves can choose how to cook that food.

Q: Do the refrigerators own refrigerators themselves?
A: No. Duh.

Q: How do they reproduce?
A: Hmm, good question. In order for reproduction to occur, you need two Toilets, or two Fridges, or two whatever. Those two Objects then do stuff (which varies depending on the type), and the result is another Sentient Object!

Q: Do toilets need the toilet like humans do?
A: No. They’re toilets for a reason.

Q: Can a human own a Sentient Object or vice versa?
A: Do NOT even think about it. Sentient Objects and humans live on equal footing in Sylestone, and it is a huge crime to own one of the opposite… culture.

Q: How do Sentient Objects feel about non-sentient objects?
A: They laugh at them because they’re lesser beings. Well, not even beings at all, really.

Q: What happens if there is a power outage?
A: All Sentient Objects run on their own electricity (if they need it), so nothing.

Q: If you unplug an appliance and then plug it back in, is it a persistent conscious state?
A: See above answer.

Q: Is it torture to keep a broken Sentient Object operational?
A: When a Sentient Object breaks, it sometimes dies. Fortunately, this happens very rarely and when it does, the treatment is usually very quick.

Q: Is there intra-sentient racism?
A: No. All Sentient Objects live on equal footing.

Q: How do they see?
A: They have big googly eyes that help them see.

Q: What happens if you slowly exchange parts between Sentient Objects until they’re completely switched?
A: This cannot happen, it is physically impossible.

Q: Are there organs?
A: Yes. Sentient Objects have a brain-like organ somewhere in their body, which makes them sentient.

Q: Do Sentient Objects have brains?
A: Yes, see above.

Q: If a Sentient Object dies, do organ transplants occur?
A: Only if a Sentient Object of the same type requires a new brain-like organ.

Q: Do Sentient Objects feel pain?
A: Yes, although only in extreme circumstances.

Q: Does Sentient Object crime occur often?
A: Exceeding rarely, but it is not unheard of.

Q: What classic literature do Sentient Objects prefer? Do they admire the Mona Lisa or the Apple Lisa?
A: Er, depends on the Sentient Object, I guess.

Q: How do Sentient Objects walk around?
A: Depends. Many bounce around, but those that are lucky enough to have legs use them.

Q: How were the Sentient Objects created?
A: Ah, good question. So basically, no one knows. At one point in history following the colonisation of Sylestone, a big band of Sentient Objects decided to combine together for whatever reason and cast a “forgetfulness” spell on everyone in the nation, including themselves. It means that Sylestonean history is rich and thick going back 500 years, but no longer, as no one remembers what happened before then. This event is known as the Big Forget.

Q: How do strip clubs work in Kirkham?
A: Not even going to bother answering this, with respect to the inner Quebecois in all of us.

Grounds

Capital Stadium, Avondale
Capacity: 100,000
Location: Central Avondale
About: Located in the heart of Avondale, Capital Stadium is arguably Sylestone’s most prestigious sporting venue, the only contender the majestic Chamberley Institute of Sport stadium, seating a whopping 109,300 people. Every time Sylestone, the Capital Coyotes or Avondale Knights have a home match here, you can be guaranteed that a massive crowd will arrive to support their boys and girls, creating one of the best atmospheres in multiversal cricket. Being in the capital city, there are many non-cricket things to do, such as enjoy the sunny beaches, swim in the stunning reefs or take a visit to the world-class Avondale Zoo, the only place in the multiverse where Margaret's are in captivity, although don’t expect to see them, for they prefer to dwell in the darkest corners of the enclosure. The pitch itself has a bit in it for everyone - rare for a Sylestonean pitch - so for pace bowlers, you’d better use it while you can.

Chamberley Cricket Ground, Chamberley
Capacity: 86,000
Location: Inner east Chamberley
About: While Avondale’s Capital Stadium is undoubtedly the best ground in Sylestone, the Chamberley Cricket Ground comes close. A batters’ paradise, in a shorter format such as T20, it is integral to score big runs here for there is almost nothing for the bowlers. In the longer formats, the pitch often wears as the game goes onward, creating a little something for the spinners, but that is not the case in T20. Outside of cricket, Chamberley also offers spectacular reefs and is completely surrounded by the verdant, thick Melville rainforest and if that is not enough, feel free to take a trip to the nearby Felton Island. You will never forget it.

Betham Cricket Ground, Betham
Capacity: 43,000
Location: South Betham
About: Located in Sylestone’s third-biggest city, Betham Cricket Ground is one of the nation’s most famous spinners’ paradises, the pitch always having something in it for the tweakers. Against high quality bowling, batters will find it tough to score runs but with boundaries edging on the smaller side, any mistake will be battered. Similar to Chamberley, Betham is surrounded by rainforest but unlike the western city, the BCG is located right on the edge of the water alongside the Bay Reserve and Merindah Stadium, forming a large, waterfront sporting complex. After games, it is very common to see the Carwell and Narradoon beaches stacked with people cooling off after an intense match of cricket.

Bolton Oval, Pesfield
Capacity: 50,000
Location: South Pesfield
About: It’s one of Sylestone’s most famous grounds in one of Sylestone’s most famous cities, but not for the reasons you might think. Bolton Oval is far from a massive stadium but being in the treetop city of Pesfield, the surrounding environment is certainly magnetic. One of the stadium’s most prominent features is a large oak tree halfway between the end of the bowlers’ run-up and the boundary, creating a rather poor and lazy “twelfth fielder”, but still a twelfth fielder nevertheless. It’s really the only advantage the bowlers get on a batters paradise without an inch of grass. Outside of the stadium, the entire population of Pesfield - over a million of them - live in treehouses. How they remain upright in tropical storms no one knows but one thing is for sure and that is that they are sturdy little things, just like the inhabitants.

Cleorough Stadium, Cleorough
Capacity: 57,500
Location: North Cleorough
About: Out of Sylestone’s eight main cricket grounds, Cleorough’s Carson Stadium is almost unarguably the most favourable towards spin bowlers and with Sunlife Stadium and Katham Oval also there in the mix, that’s a big thing to say. The ground is also a pace bowlers’ hell despite the returns of Zefixaq Effervescentpyjamas in the Crash n’ Smash; barely anyone is able to get anything out of it. However, if you pitch the ball in the right areas, the amount of grip one can get is admirable and in a format such as T20, it will provide precious dot balls. However, like with the BCG, if the bowlers get it wrong, the short boundaries will certainly favour the batters at Carson Stadium.

Sunlife Stadium, Halpenley
Capacity: 35,000
Location: Central Halpenley
About: Located smack bang in the centre of the desert city, Sunlife Stadium is the home of the Halpenley Lightning in the Crash n’ Smash and as a result, has a reputation for producing thrilling matches. On a pitch that once again favours spin bowling (yes, make sure you’ve picked spinners, people!) batters must be highly proactive to score runs but with shortish square boundaries, anything short will go the distance. Fielders will also swelter in the heat no matter the time of day, with temperatures often clipping 40C in the dry heat of the arid Sylestonean desert.

Katham Oval, Katham
Capacity: 13,000
Location: North Katham
About: Anyone getting bored of these spin bowling paradises? Well, deal with it, because we have another here in Katham, just an hour northwest of Chamberley. However, Katham Oval does also have a bit in it for the quicks, with a little bit of up and down bounce making it a bit of a minefield. The ground is likely to host some low-scoring classics and outside of cricket, there are similar things to do to attractions in Chamberley, Katham’s sister city with ten times the population.

Jameson Oval, Dunkirk
Capacity: 31,200
Location: East Dunkirk
About: Another one? You’ve got to be kidding. But yes, your eyes do not lie. Dunkirk’s Jameson Oval is indeed another pitch with a bit in it for the spinners. However, with relatively large boundaries, there is lots of space for batters to squirt ones and twos against quality bowling and hence, games are not going to be as low-scoring as one might think. Located about an hour out of Avondale on the way to Chamberley, Dunkirk is famous for its agriculture and dairy, with tours to famous cheese, yoghurt and ice-cream factories recommended for those who like food.

Freeman Oval, Freeman
Capacity: 25,000
Location: Central Freeman
About: One of Sylestone’s largest grounds, it is virtually impossible to hit sixes square of the wicket here at Freeman Oval, with the straight sections also numbering well over 70 metres. It makes up for a rather good batting pitch although, like almost all grounds in the nation, spinners can find a bit of assistance if they go searching for it. Freeman itself is a port city home to roughly 100,000 people and is the largest city in the state, named, uh, Freeman.

Dodle Furnace, Dodle
Capacity: 25,000
Location: North Dodle
About: Located on the foothills of the mighty Cable Alps and on the shores of Lake Acondo, Dodle is home to roughly 300,000 people, bustling around the city. Home to the Scorching Hot Dodle cricket team, Dodle Furnace regularly experiences sell-outs, particularly when the Scorchers host the Pesfield Wasps in one of Sylestonean cricket’s most passionate domestic rivalries. With smallish boundaries and a good batting surface, expect runs to flow at the Furnace.
