HAWTHORN BATTERS RELEASE MASSIVE STATEMENT IN TREMBLING BUTCHERING

STOOMTUON, THE SARIAN - A lion’s roar may be loud, ferocious and leave destruction in its path, but I’ll bet anything that Sylestone’s best lion hunter - 28-year-old Lachlan Cocrine - could reduce it to a mere whimper upon sight.

How he received that name? Well, one look at the scorecard of the match between Sylestone and Lionsroar at the fifteenth GCF World T20 Championships, played in The Sarian, tells you all you need to know.

It was twenty overs - well, closer to sixteen or seventeen - of exhilarating, ghastly destruction in its purest form. So deafening that you could hear the crack of leather on willow back on the Saari mainland at Tucanviul. So devastating that Stoomtuon locals found themselves running for dear life upon the rain of 156g leather balls, bucketing down from the sky. So catastrophic that by the end of the storm, nothing remained in opposition to the brute force. It only ended because some higher power deemed it must.

Yeah, Lachlan Cocrine must really hate lions. That seems to be the only conclusion we can make out of this. The end.

Oh, you came here for an actual match report, not just some idiot trying to be a smart-arse by using vivid imagery to describe Cocrine’s utter annihilation of the Lionsroar bowling? Fine. Here goes.

Under partly cloudy skies at Stoomtuon’s tiny Sint Chad’s, Luke Tiati won his first toss of the tournament and did not hesitate to take the first dig, following through on his belief that on such pitches such as this - low and slow with ever-increasing assistance for the tweakers over the course of the match - batting first was ideal, even after the calamity Broughton Hall and Kate Sonnel produced just four days prior in Tucanviul on a similar surface. There, the Hawthorns portrayed their prowess with the ball throughout the fixture, sending a menacing message to future oppositions, restricting the EspoT20 champions to a mere 9-107 from their allocated twenty overs. And here, against Lionsroar, they would tell the rest of their groupmates - loud and clear - why their batting is just as fearsome.

But it was Lachlan Cocrine who stole the show. Throughout the ninety minutes of carnage that made up the Sylestonean innings, the star right-hander produced the most prolific individual innings in the nation’s T20I history as records tumbled like dominoes. Finishing unbeaten on 119 from just 53 balls after Brianna Eastwood’s dismissal for 13 in the fourth over, Cocrine’s obliteration smashed the Hawthorns’ previous high T20I score - Luke Tiati’s 108 against The Sherpa Empire in the inaugural EspoT20 - while the final total of 2-225 off twenty overs was eleven more than they had ever scored, defeating their previous best of 5-214 against Grearia in Colk. And even then, that is not all the records broken. Although there are many more I can’t be fucked to analyse, only one more really stands out. Not only was the highest individual score by a Sylestonean broken, but so was the highest partnership. And I’m telling you right now - it’s gonna be pretty damn tough to beat this one.

While Cocrine sent Stoomtuon alight with his trailblazing innings, with twelve sixes and six fours from just 53 balls (a boundary every three balls - believe it if you dare), Luke Tiati quietly went about his work at the other end, feeding his partner the strike with an endless string of singles and twos. From Eastwood’s dismissal through to the penultimate ball of the eighteenth over when Tiati had his stumps removed by the Lionsroar opening bowler, the Hawthorn skipper made a pivotal 52-ball 72, the pair compiling a mammoth 171-run partnership at close to spot on two a ball, before Ashton Stealom was promoted to finish the innings with style against a defeated bowling group. Maybe “style” isn’t the correct word, but you get the meaning.

Chasing 226 was always going to be a step too far for the Lionsroar batters. For the second time in two games, Samuel Scron picked up a wicket in the opening over of the innings, setting the Hawthorns off on the right note. Although the rest of the Lionsroar top-order attempted to take the Hawthorn bowling on and get as close to the total as possible, it only took until the end of the sixth over for Sylestone to regain their firm throttle on the match, taking key wickets and leaving the middle-order needing above twelves as the fielding restrictions eased. But things were not going to get any easier for the Lionsroar batters, with Broughton Hall and Kate Sonnel only just beginning their respective spells.

From that point onwards, Sylestone victory was assured - if it was not after the conclusion of the first innings. Hall and Sonnel proved tricky to get away on a pitch that had a bit in it for them although, ultimately, the Lionsroar batters played them pretty well. They finished at 5-162 from their twenty overs - 63 runs in deficit - with Scron, Hall, Sonnel, Liam Afosha and Samuel Cross all taking a wicket apiece in a tight, defensive bowling performance. The slaughtering saw the Hawthorns move atop of Group C with a wild net run-rate of 3.366, although the Liventians are well and truly knocking on their door following their thirteen-over batting demolition of Lozho, the EspoT20 champions turning into the group’s whipping boys with the pressure ramped up to the max.

However, despite their dominant start to the World T20 Championship, the Hawthorns cannot afford complacency. Although TJUN-ia have just come off a shock loss to the Gelderlish after defeating Darmen by four runs in the opening round, they will be determined to produce another upset at the Klifzijde in Oud Saarum and continue their rather frustrating habit of knocking over established sides. With reports of a greener pitch being prepared for the game, Jack Martin and Kate Sonnel seem likely to make way for Samuel Asaskia and Josh Vilesti in an attempt to boost the Hawthorns’ pace stocks, with no changes to the side’s batters, bar injury. After all, why would you adjust a well-oiled death machine?

Stumps!: Now That's A Tough One To Take

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Nov 11, 2022 3:22 pm

After we just about held our nerve to beat a Top 5 team to kick off our T20 adventure, the Bowlin' Jaguars of TJUN-ia knew that they had to be cautious when it came to the shortest format of the game we all loved. Everyone, including Virat Indushapa and Roger Ntini, knew that T20 cricket had the capacity to go in so many different directions and make stars out of absolutely anyone as it wished. They knew that anyone could potentially knock them off and they knew they had to be ready for anything...but sometimes, things just don't go your way.

Brijtbai Parc in Tucanviul would host our contest with debutants New Gelderland, captained by their best bowler in Kit Eliot, and we won the toss, so elected to bowl first. That meant Max Hawthorne and Julian Faulkner would start this contest against Ahmed Ali and safe to say, things wouldn't be easy for anyone from the off. This ground was known for being dry, being in one of the sunniest cities in The Sarian, so you better believe that the bowlers would be having fun all day. New Gelderland certainly did have weapons at their disposal, with Skylar de Terranea and Carissa Berry managing 31 and 28 runs respectively, but the pitch was not going to favour the bats at all and our bowlers certainly had a bit of fun. Both Ali and Peter Kylasov managed 3 wickets days, Esteban Soto managed 2 and the final 2 wickets were simple run-outs. In the end, this hard-fought 1st innings ended after 18 overs with New Gelderland being bowled all out for 149.

So out came Jason Walkins and Logan McGarra looking to try and chase down 150 and while that sounded simple enough, the pitch would mean 3 bowlers, in particular, would be our pests for the day: Captain Kit Eliot, Finn Treloar and Alicia Phoenix. They were simply almost impossible to bat against, their skills on the ball enhanced by the pitch and producing unpredictable bowling that our great batsmen couldn't really figure out. All Eliot and Phoenix managed 3 wickets each, Treloar the final 2, and while Chase Helton put up a good stand on 44, the bowling simply sucked the life out of our run-chase and we couldn't really pick up the momentum from the 15th inning onwards. In the end, we ended up on 127/8 - securing the 22-run upset for now 2-0 debutants. T20 Cricket - where nothing is ever certain.

That certainly stung but in a tournament where the Top 3 advance in this group, one slip-up isn't totally the end of the world. We'll head back to the cliffs of Klifzijde in Oud Saarum to face another ranked team, this time #13 Sylestone who are also 2-0 alongside NG and Liventia. As a perennial cricket nation at this point, we know that facing them will not be easy at all...but we've got no choice. We've got to bounce back and if we have to try and do that against the nation of inanimate objects, then so be it. GO BOWLIN' JAGS!

Kriketti-ajatuksia 2-II: A Tight One, But A Win Still!

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Fri Nov 11, 2022 3:59 pm

After we managed to just about beat a Top 10 team in our T20 debut, the Karhut of Kimi-Suomi were now in a position that they...didn't quite imagine they'd be in. Most people may have expected that they'd be 0-1 by the time MD2 rolled around, but Lorcán Ua Tuathail knew the type of players he had at his disposal and Wäinö Tykkä used them to great effect to pull off an upset in his first game as captain. Now, the questions were starting to fly back home: Kuinka hyvä tämä joukkue on? Kuinka pitkälle he voivat mennä? For now, Ua Tuathail is going to take this one match at a time...and that may be crucial if we want to pull off the unthinkable and make the Super 12.

The Pingstrand Cricketgrond in Wilaamstad, a place known for its swing and a potential bowling paradise, would host MD2 against fellow debutants Susijoukot, also known as Wolfstruppen, who were looking to try a pull off a better performance then they did on their debut. We won the toss and elected to bat first, with Albert Aaltonen and Kapteeni Tykkä hoping that having the ball last would help them greatly in the end. Of course, that did mean that we had to deal with the swing first and while we did lose 7 wickets across our innings, our batting was efficient enough so that those wickets weren't as harmful as we might have thought. The keep players here ended up being Lasse Pöysti and Jukka Paarma, who managed a 56-run partnership as Pöysti chased towards a team-best score of 66. In the end, we ended our inning feeling like we might've done enough as we put up a respectable 179/7 here near the coast.

That meant that 180 was the target these Sudet were going to try and chase down and while the swing was certainly effective, our fellow debutants certainly gave this one a good fight. One of them managed a very good 71 and while we managed 5 wickets in defence (2 each from Mika Linnankoski and Signe Hyppia, 1 from Lina Lehtovaara), our opponents were very stubborn in not wanting to get sent back to the changing rooms. In the end, what this match would come down to was who could manage to overcome the swing the best...and in the end, that was us. We just about held on for the 9-run win but to be fair, no one would've really complained if Susijoukot won this match and the handshakes certainly felt like both teams made a point here. This one could've gone either way...but in the end, jonkun piti voittaa.

Somehow, the Karhut are 2-0 in their T20 debut and while that is certainly an achievement to celebrate, we still have 5 more matches to try and work our way through. Case in point, MD3 - where we are going to De OvalNationaal in Bondstad, the literal home of cricket in Sarian (The Sarian), in order to play...Sarian. #12 De Bondsaari themselves. Facing the hosts on the biggest stage they've got sounds like a recipe for disaster, but this contest is actually a 2-0 vs 2-0 showdown. One of us will have to lose for the first time. And while the crowd will favour the hosts, we are Kimi-Suomi...and giving up is not in our DNA. Something's got to give...so let's make this a fight, shall we? NOSTA KUIN KARHUT!

Bartholozew clicked the mouse to move on to the next part of the presentation: The Lozho's Premium Huts and Shacks MegaOval MegaMall. "This all-in-one stadium will be the pinnacle of Lozhoan architecture. It will-"

"Would you excuse us for a second?" Raj interrupted. He turned his back away from his audience to whisper to his colleagues.

"What are the two of you doing? I said to WHISPER only. Plus, you guys don't even know what the plans for the stadium are!" Raj whispered angrily.

"Well, we're not using your plans. This is our own pitch. You had your chance for the tournament, and we have our own ideas for the stadium. It's our turn." replied Jerry.

"Excuse me? Neither of you are architects. And you think you can convince the government to build a massive stadium? You guys are insane! Get out of here." retorted Raj.

"Hey, you know we can hear what you're whispering right?" interjected the physical representative for President Obama.

"Yeah. Also, we'd actually like to hear what these two gentlemen have to say about their plans for a stadium. It was sounding pretty good." added the LFA President. Everyone else nodded in agreement.

Raj sighed and sat down, whilst Jerry and Bartholozew continued.

"The MegaOval will have a hundred thousand seats. But - and hold onto your horses - ten thousand of those will be TOILET seats." grinned Jerry. "Lozhoan stadiums are infamous for their lack of lavatory facilities. With a 1:9 ratio of toilets to people, there will never be any queues, allowing for people to return to their seats as quickly as possible to get a piece of the action! Additionally, there will also be TVs showing the match in every one of those toilets as well so not a minute is lost!"

"The MegaMall will actually be four different KiloMalls, and each of them will be at a corner of the oval. Wait, corner? Hmm... edge. Well, there will just be 4 of them. And each of them will have 20 different bars for people to get wasted on Vodka Sozhas..."

"...of course, there will be a permanent bouncy castle outside the stadium in case people get bored, which doubles up as a tool to catch stray balls that fly out of the stadium..."

"...there will be cutting edge technology to accurately determine who in the stands is planning on hurling insults at the President of Honour..."

The two rambled on and on, with Raj starting to smile. This was absolutely crazy, but he loved it. There was no way this would be approved, allowing him to quickly swoop in with a much more reasonable plan. Maybe the contrast will allow him to demand a bigger payout for him.

"Excellent! Well, I heartily approve of this. Let's do it!" came a voice from the video call once again. Raj looked up in shock. The President is approving this crap? He had to think quick to salvage the deal.

"Well... who's going to build such an... extrava-... um... extraordinarily amazing stadium perfectly?" asked Raj.

"Right. Yeah. Lozho's Platinum Huts can take care of that or whatever. We'll iron out the details later." said the Minister of Recreation. Raj rubbed his hands in delight. Such an unrealistically humongous stadium would make him richer beyond his wildest dreams.

BBC OFFICIAL REPORT: Infamous Obamen Fugitive Spotted In Archipelbuurt

By Cricket Correspondent David B.O. Chase

Haagelanden, The Sarian - During the demolition of the Obaman National Cricket Team at the hand of GCF T20 World Championship hosts and heavy favourites The Sarian, fugitive from justice and member of the BBI's Most Wanted Jake Obamaheimer was spotted protesting outside.

After last being spotted at the Summer Olympic Games hosted by Electrum and Quebec & Shingoryeo ranting about The Dear President himself on live TV, Obamaheimer had been absent from his usual seditious activities. He was not seen during the World Cup Qualification rounds or the Cup of Harmony in spite of the great publicity from those events. Rumours from the Obaman streets suspect that he was in jail in Gortolekua after illegally entering the country to protest at the U-18 competition, while others believed that he had been stranded at sea or assembling a legion of supporters in a remote part of the Tumbran Northlands.

He was seen with a simple placard today - 'BRING BACK CRICKET FOR HOBAMA' - outside the stadium. He was likely banned from entering due to the possibility of being recognised and attacked by patriotic and great Obaman travelling supporters, due to the enormous bounty on his head placed by the BBI. After being confronted by a couple of Obaman supporters late to the game, he fled on foot, not to be seen for the rest of the day.

The message seemed to be in line with Obamaheimer's usual traitorous spiel - and this time roping in Mark Hobama, an innocent patriot, into his disgusting web of lies. The demand to bring back cricket for Mark Hobama, a player who played professionally before the nationwide ban of the sport, is clearly ridiculous and designed to stir up trouble.

If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Jake Obamaheimer aka Jake Oppenheimer, please email bbit.tips@gmail.com

Article posted on the GruenCric website.

Defending champs on the defensive after feeble batting displays

After the shock of a losing their first pool game, Gruenberg looked to be rebounding well in their second match. As spinners Quouodan Skejjibox and Hraff' Tumcoweiss carved their way through the middle overs, sharing 7-51 off 7.3 overs, it was difficult to recall just how it could have all gone so wrong in the first match. Then it was over to the batsmen -- who served up a distinctly less-than-goat-enabled reminder.

Across two innings, Gruenberg's batters have managed less than 7 runs per over. They have neither managed explosive openings, registering powerplay scores of just 30-1 and 38-2, nor used their initial conservatism to lay the platform for rapid acceleration. Nurples Honk, once considered the most extravagant batsmen since Eightyseven Otterbiscuits, has scored 37 runs off the 39 balls he's faced; ! has yet to be dismissed and has accrued a team leading 79 runs, but chewed up an agonising 76 balls in the process. Ettexinor Broimbles, who struck at over 9 an over in the last World T20, is striking at a run a ball for 14 runs per dismissal. Brief lower-middle-order swishing in their opening game led to a pandemic of six-and-out syndrome.

All of this against two unranked sides, at two grounds featuring short boundaries.

Gruenberg's shorter form batting lineups have never been of the lustrous quality of their Test top orders, but this is shaping up to be the weakest set of batsmen the team has brought to a major championship. With Honk having flattered to deceive for a long time, ! still clearly finding his way, Contemnible included more for his keeping than bat -- yet Hengtridan Jr. and Jshkhrrrlllclx doing nothing to displace him -- the only other option is Terg Reversiblechocolatestalin, who is yet to play a ball of international cricket.

It's all the more frustrating given so much else has gone right. The bowling lineup has looked to offer a good combination, with Grovan and Syzygyswallower offering swing up front, Renkauer's raw pace bursting through, and the spinners finding grip and purchase. Better still has been an improvement in a traditional weakness, namely fielding. The team has effected four run-outs across their first two games, three on direct hits, with ! taking a rip-snorting brute of a slip catch early on in the first match, and Broimbles a fine diving catch at short cover in the second while Tumcoweiss made excellent ground to reel in a leading edge off his own bowling. Even Honk held a catch.

Both games have been sparsely attended, with organizers blaming the size of the competition for diminished early interest. Though Gruenberg might be disappointed that few neutrals have turned out to watch their title defence, their own fans have hardly flocked to The Sarian. Gruenbergers are notoriously not big tourists, being disdainful of foreign customs, perturbed by sexual and personal immoralities perpetrated by infidels on heathen soil, and concerned about low goat density. A rag-tag band of supporters blaring rams' horns and waving the eight-starred flag were about all that comprised the "Baaamy Army" in the first two games.

Perhaps more can be expected for the next encounter, against the bigger fish of Baggieland. But with a higher profile opponent will come even more expectation and pressure on the batsmen to step up and play more positively. On current evidence, that's something they will struggle to do.

Stumps!: Face It, We Are In A Hole

Postby TJUN-ia » Sun Nov 13, 2022 8:24 am

After New Gelderland shocked us in Tucanviul, the Bowlin' Jaguars of TJUN-ia were now 1-1 and looking to try and change that for the better as soon as possible. Losing by 22 runs is never fun but losing by 22 to an unranked opponent stung even more for Virat Indushapa, who simply didn't want to see this team fall into a hole early on in this competition. Everyone knew that a bounceback was required and Roger Ntini would give it his all to try and get back up and running...but how possible was that?

Klifzijde in Oud Saarum would host a showdown with #13 Sylestone, with the Jaguars winning the toss ad electing to bat first, sending out Jason Walkins and Logan McGarra to start us off. One of the stories of the contest would be an apparent knock to Chase Helton, which he picked up during the warm-up before the game even started. That meant Wille Mutombodzi would enter the batting lineup at #4 and once he paired up with McGarra, things would move steadily along. Poor Joshua Vilesti didn't end up having fun at all, but VC Liam Afosha and Broughton Hall would tumble us down a bit into the batting order. In the end, we would end up with 174/7, a nice score but one not too difficult to blow if things go seriously wrong.

The target, then, was 175 and during the powerplay and the first 10 overs, our bowling attack looked ferocious in its play. Peter Kylasov got 2 wickets, both Ahmed Ali and Esteban Soto (via Gabriel Miziara) managed one each and #13 slumped to 44-8. But two players in Afosha and Samuel Cross simply refused to die and they took over the proceeding from here...but not without controversy. Three times, we felt like we could've gotten one of them out...and every time, the review didn't go in our favour. It would be this, combined with some brilliant batting from Afosha and Cross, would mean the Hawthorns would reach the total with 15 balls to spare.

Now, we are 1-2 and in a deeper hole than we were before this game. Up next will be unranked Lionsroar, who are currently 0-3 and not looking good at all right now. Of course, anything can happen in this sport...but we don't want to lose 3 on the bounce. That would be fatal. GO BOWLIN' JAGS!

Kriketti-ajatuksia 2-III: WHAT THE FUCK?!

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Sun Nov 13, 2022 9:42 am

After beating a fellow T20 debutant by only 9 runs after a close defensive showing, the Karhut knew that they were going to be in what many would consider "erittäin syvää paskaa" in due course. Everyone knew that the game that was upcoming would undoubtedly be one that would be perfectly understandable to lose. Everyone would get and we would move on into the rest of the tournament knowing that this game was perfectly understandable. Right? One certainly disagreed with the sentiment...and his name was Lorcán Ua Tuathail. He made his team remember, with such passion no less, that T20 may be the shortest of cricket's formats, but it is also the most chaotic of them all. Anything can happen in only 120 balls...and that would undoubtedly be key today.

De OvalNationaal in Bondstad would be absolutely packed for our matchup with isännät, what we call Sarian but you may call The Sarian or De Bondsaari. They entered this tournament at #12 but as the hosts, home-field advantage is always going to be an advantage in any sport. This place was expected to be a batting paradise, so when Sarian won the toss, it was no surprise that they opted to bat first and send Marscha M DeSaari and Kwinton SW Charlemagne out to kick off the game. The hosts certainly had weapons at their disposal, with Charlemagne managing a nice 54 and Fleur H Zeunier getting 33 but surprisingly, our bowling attack came to play too and restricted the hosts more than many would've expected. Mika Linnankoski was just on fire, managing 4-56, while Signe Hyppia also ended up with a wicket, with the other 2 being stumpings via Åke Lindman. In the end, the hosts would finish in 181/7 - a good score, but not too impossible for someone to catch.

So, out came Albert Aaltonen and Captain Wäinö Tykkä to try and chase down the target of 182...and my word, did we try. Of course, we were playing some conservative cricket to try and make it through the powerplay, only losing Aaltonen and Järnefelt to make it 60-2. But once the powerplay was over, Tykkä and Lasse Pöysti began a sudden takeover, their 50-run partnership steering us towards a potential upset of biblical proportions just like that. Pöysti would soon go for 34 with many others falling soon enough (2 each for Charlemagne, Grajs A Vioolspeler and Suzie Paarwith the other via run out), but Tykkä would stay on for a memorable 87* - the main force behind us doing what we did. Kapteeni would be the one to score the final boundary - the one that would cross us over the line and send the team into a frenzy, the locals into silence and everyone back home into shock. Somehow, the hosts had fallen on home turf. Somehow, the hosts had fallen to a debutant. Somehow, Karhut had upset the fucking apple cart. Helvetin paska.

So...we're 3-0 now, by some fucking miracle. Maybe this sport isn't too bad after all from a Finnish perspective. Now, we are leading this group...with a huge target painted on our backs. Up next is a fellow debutant, who we call Länsi-Barack ja Itä-Obama but is more well known by their English name of West Barack and East Obama. WBEO are currently 2-1 and can be considered, like us, to be an unranked team punching above its weight. Someone has to win this duel...and with our record being as it is, we certainly have a reason to make sure that winner is us. Before this tournament started, making the Super 12 would've been a dream for this young team. But now? We have a good chance to be more than just that. NOSTA KUIN KARHUT!

AFOSHA, CROSS SAVE HAWTHORNS AFTER VALIANT TJUN-IAN EFFORT

OUD SAARUM, THE SARIAN - A Liam Afosha classic with the bat has propelled Sylestone to their third win in three games as they continued their sensational start to the fifteenth World T20 Championship, held in The Sarian. However, unlike Lozho and Lionsroar, the Jaguars were able to put up a fight and on another day, the match could have easily swung their way. In the first innings, TJUN-ia were able to compile a very competitive 7-174 from their twenty overs on the back of splendid knocks from Logan McGarra (63 from 47) and Wille Mutombodzi (41 from 18) and for the first time in the tournament, putting the Hawthorns under a bit of pressure leading into the second innings. For the first half of the innings, it appeared that the thirteenth-ranked T20 nation in the multiverse would collapse under that pressure as they slumped to 4-88 but Afosha and Cross had other ideas, combining for an unbeaten 87-run partnership to guide their nation safely home.

For the first time in the tournament, Samuel Scron’s opening over did not produce a wicket as Jason Walkins and McGarra played him cautiously, unwilling to take too many wickets against someone so prolific with the new ball. However, at the other end, both opted to take Joshua Vilesti - playing his first game of the tournament - to town, cashing in on some poor lines and lengths from the 35-year-old, a trend that continued throughout the day’s play as he finished with the disappointing figures of 0-37 from three overs, the call to drop Kate Sonnel certainly backfiring on the Sylestonean selectors. But while Scron might’ve not picked up a wicket in his opening over, he certainly did in his second, Walkins slashing at a leg-cutter and splicing it into Samuel Asaskia’s safe hands at cover. Inside the first three overs, TJUN-ia were 1-19, and the Hawthorns had the start they so desperately wanted.

Unfortunately for the favourites, though, it would be the only wicket they would take inside the opening ten overs of the match as Roger Ntini joined McGarra, the pair ticking over the strike rather comfortably, even if the likes of Broughton Hall and Samuel Asaskia did cause a few problems. In fact, it would be Hall who would eventually pick up the key breakthrough just as Ntini was beginning to place his foot on the accelerator, the Jaguar captain chipping a well-disguised wrong’un straight down straight down Nicholas Lovia’s throat, breaking an ominous 67-run partnership in 54 balls. His dismissal would catalyse a mini-collapse of 3-22 in 16 balls as TJUN-ia capitulated from 1-86 to 4-108 when McGarra top-edged Asaskia straight up into the air, the opener departing for a well-made 63 from 47 balls to bring debutant Wille Mutombodzi to the crease.

With only 33 balls remaining and the score only 108, Mutombodzi went hard from the outset, belting the first of his five sixes on the final ball of Asaskia’s over to set the tone for TJUN-ia’s late burst in the death overs. Although wickets fell around the 22-year-old right-hander at the other end, they did not stop him from giving the ball a thwack, his 18-ball cameo worth 41 runs coming to a halt when Tiati threw his stumps down attempting to get back on strike for the final ball of the innings. But the damage was done, with 68 runs coming at over twelve an over ever since McGarra’s dismissal as the Jaguars finished at a competitive 7-174 from their allocated overs, the Hawthorns needing close to nine an over if they wished to continue their perfect start to the campaign.

The innings didn’t get off to an excellent start, with Brianna Eastwood and Luke Tiati both back in the sheds come the conclusion of the third over as Esteban Soto and Ahmed Ali picked up a wicket apiece to leave Sylestone hanging on by a thread at 2-21 by the end of the third. With consolidation required, Lachlan Cocrine and Nicholas Lovia opted to go about building a partnership their own way - aka belting the leather off the ball and making the TJUN-ian fielders run everywhere upon the rain of fours and sixes. Unfortunately for Cocrine, though, his heroics against Lionsroar could not be repeated here as Roger Ntini picked him up immediately upon entrance into the bowling attack, the Jaguars taking their third wicket inside the opening six overs to stick their heads in front.

But if there was one man who could save the Hawthorns, it was Liam Afosha. Due to the lengthy nature of Sylestone’s batting lineup - after all, Samuel Asaskia was coming in at number eight - Lovia still had a licence to swing, and swing he did. While Afosha went about running hard at one end, racking up singles and twos at a sublime rate, his partner raced along at two a ball, hitting fours galore, with no bowler saved from the crack of Lovia’s bat. However, like all good things, his knock had to come to an end. With the run rate soaring at close to ten an over by the end of the ninth, Lovia charged down the track once too many on the first ball of the tenth, Ntini throwing in a quicker one to catch the 25-year-old off guard. While he still got a piece of it, it was not enough to clear Joseph Gregorson at long-off, who took a simple catch. At 4-88 in the tenth over, the game was delicately poised. If the TJUN-ians could get Afosha soon, it would swing their way but if not, the Hawthorns surely had it covered.

And thankfully for the Esportivans, the latter did indeed occur. Although he and Samuel Cross survived a few close calls - two LBW referrals were only “umpire’s call”, meaning the decision could’ve gone either way, while in the fifteenth over, the Jaguars wasted their review on a caught behind shout, with Cross’s bat hitting the turf instead of the ball. Cashing in on their ounce of luck, the middle-order pair combined for an unbeaten 87-run stand in just 50 balls, guiding their nation home to a third straight win, continuing their superb start to the campaign. What’s more, the pair were able to complete the job with fifteen balls still to spare, duly maintaining their excellent run-rate to remain above the Gelderlish at the head of the group.

With three wins from three, fans will be expecting another dominant performance against newcomers Greaterburg, who have so far only managed the one triumph from three matches. However, they will still have the ability to produce an upset and as a result, Sylestone are far from safe. But while they have gotten off to an excellent start, the hardest matches are yet to come and in order to be safe for those, a win over Greaterburg is a necessity.

Raj was in his office, twiddling his thumbs again. He had already spent the better half of the morning shredding tax invoices, brochures and Assembly of Esportiva bills. He had tried playing single-player Monopoly on his phone but he got bored of that quickly.

Raj decided to take a quick lunch break. He left the office building and jumped into his new Jamborzhini, which he bought when his first paycheque for building the 'Lozho's Premium Huts and Shacks MegaOval MegaMall'. Whilst driving, Raj thought about what he wanted to eat. Sushi? He wasn't feeling it. Cheeseburger? Too unhealthy. Tomato soup? Now that's more like it. Raj decided to go to The Golden Tomato's branch in the outskirts of Ghezhan.

On the way there, he passed by the lot where the MegaOval was to be built. Weird, he thought. The cranes weren't carrying any loads. The excavators and bulldozers were stationary. And did someone in a hard hat just walk into the pub next door? Raj pulled over into pub and walked in.

"What are you all doing in here?" yelled Raj to the pub full of his construction workers. "We cannot waste a single second not building this ginormous stadium. The President's birthday isn't too far away!"

"It's our break!" yelled back another worker, before everyone got back to drinking their Sozkhas (a brand of Vodka from Sozha Soda).

"Well, I demand to speak with the foreman about this. Where is he?" Raj shouted. The foreman stood up sheepishly and walked towards Raj.

"My 'umblest apologies sir. It's just that two men from the government said we could take the rest of the day off. Hey, they're over there!" The foreman pointed towards a booth, where Jerry and Bartholozew were seated. Raj rolled his eyes and walked towards them.

"How can the two of you tell them to take the day off? We're really tight for time here, especially with your ludicrous stadium plans. And you guys must have faked those IDs you're wearing, because you guys definitely do not have government jobs." Raj told them off, exasperated.

"Well, we do. President Obama himself made us Special Envoys to MegaOval construction." Jerry explained.

"Yeah, and that makes us the boss. We can tell the workers to take a break if we want, and you can't stop us." scoffed Bartholomew.

"Oh, come on. These guys signed up to 16-hour shifts on minimum pay when they smuggled themselves in here through shipping containers. They can handle it. But, you know what, not my problem. If I'm getting my money, I don't give a crap about this stupid stadium." Raj replied as he prepared to walk off to grab his lunch.

"Well, you should." Jerry called out to him. "Your contract does say if the stadium is not to our expectations you won't get any money, and you'd have to pay back whatever we gave you, such as that nice looking Jamborzhini outside. Plus, under Obaman law, you'd be in contempt of the President himself. That's a minimum 10 year jail sentence." Raj was stunned. Damn, he really backfired by molding this pair of buffoons into ruthless businessmen.

"I don't understand how I could even build ANYTHING to your satisfactions if the workers are busy drinking themselves to death." Raj argued.

"Well, maybe if you'd actually been paying attention to his project and not just the moneybags, you'd realise we're actually a week ahead of schedule on construction." Bartholozew said. "Giving the workers a break would improve their mental health, allowing them to continue their good work. But I don't know, I'm not Raj Zhaozhamhra, the genius shack building specialist. Well, I guess I'm just another fool from the government!"

By this time, Raj had stormed out of the pub. He needed to do something. He made a mistake giving those two a taste of his power, and now it was time to take it back.

Bowler Hector de Vries feels positive after statement victory over Eastfield Lodge, hopes momentum will continue against Ethane

Javale Wilson-Connors

OOSTELUND, THE SARIAN - Quebec and Shingoryeo's sophomore voyage at the Twenty20 World Championships have been going smoothly with a 3-0 start and 3.617 NRR, the latter only second to their regional rival Ko-oren. Riding off the highs of the early-tournament excitement, the Grim Reapers' leading bowler, Hector de Vries, was no less valiant about the Grim Reapers' aspirations to make it to the Super 12 Round of the historic competition and establish a clear pattern of success for the Grim Reapers. At the same time, the Grim Reapers' squad remain hopeful that this would allow for growing exposure in cricket.

‘Each and every day, we are making histories,’ de Vries said after the Grim Reapers’ victory over fifteenth-ranked Eastfield Lodge. ‘First two days have been absolutely phenomenal for our lads and lasses, and what can I say about today? We were just lights out on bowling that may come down as one of the greatest matches ever to be played by the Grim Reapers - a match that we look back in thirty years' time and say “here, we have made it.”’

Cricket is considered one of the oldest sports in Quebec and Shingoryeo, with the sport having been played for over two hundred years. That said, the Tricolour Taegeuk has also been known as the ‘What-if’s’ and the ‘Yet-to-Break’ sides on the international cricket scenes after unconvincing starts on their earlier forays into the Global Cricket Federation (GCF) tournaments. However, a promising trend has emerged at the most recent AODICC tournament held in Avorago and StrayaRoos where the Inteachan provincial side has managed to earn a win over Ko-oren and Krytenia, two cricket powerhouses on their own.

‘We certainly have played better this tournament than in past,’ de Vries said. ‘There have been some positive moments, like the wins over Brookstation and Alice Bay on previous tournaments, but the success of the Inteachan side, even if they went out at 2-4, was a sign of better times to come on the white-ball cricket. We have followed closely to their progress, made adjustments, and came out rolling so far into this tournament.’

Alongside Clemenence-Odette Chinenyeze, George R. Finch, and Hannah-Anne Tatti, de Vries is among the veterans of the squad who are playing in their second and last Twenty20 Championship, as the team looks set on course for eventual retooling with talented rookies - the increasingly-hyped trio of Barnes, Hosaka and Jang - starting to take over. De Vries feels less concerned about it, however, preferring to say that it’s only a matter of time before younger bowlers emerge on their own.

‘It’s a fairly experienced group of bowlers we have here,’ de Vries said. ‘McDonnell, Stormhawk O’Neill, Woo-Barnes and I are all those guys from the 2040s (previous decade by Quebecois time -e.d.-) while fairly young, and it is in tournaments like this where experience is needed and we, fortunately, have done a good job at it.

‘But the younger bowlers will get their turn too. I mean…we have a lot of talented bowlers and all-arounders out there on our soil. Whether you are in Mahan, Inteachan or my home province Acadie, there is plenty of talent. So there shouldn’t be so much concern about that - me and my lads will do my part and the younger guys will too in due time.’

As for those who have made the squad, however, de Vries were no short of praises for them, particularly impressed with a strong start of the tournament for Jang Joon-Gweon, the rookie wicket-keeper whose white-ball batting has impressed the veterans and arguably, the sporting world. While de Vries is not among those closest to him on the team, de Vries notes that is not purposeful.

‘It’s not easy getting used to the social sphere of the Quebecois cricket team at times so that may have misled some of you guys, and I get that,’ de Vries said. ‘This does happen - Hosaka’s been there before, Barnes somewhat so, but Jang’s been a relatively lesser known name for those who had not been familiar with schoolies’ play - so adjustment period’s going to be needed.

‘Still, he has been playing incredibly for us, and the guy has the potential to become one of the greatest cricketers in Quebec, if not ever. It’s hard to believe that the guy has not been selected for the previous teams (the reasons for his non-selection until this squad have been due to non-cricket reasons. It’s complicated -e.d.-), but we are glad to have him on board.’

Coming off a strong victory, Quebec and Shingoryeo will look to continue their strong start as they take on eleventh-ranked Ethane tomorrow. The second-pot side that has been one of the two strongest Esportiva-based sides on cricket alongside Grearia (a non-participant this T20 WC), Ethane has struggled so far in the tournament with a 0-3 record heading into the matchday four showdown. The mood remains upbeat among the Grim Reapers’ squad, even as they enter into the match as underdogs on paper.

‘Ethane’s a good side, we all know that,’ de Vries said when asked about their next opponent. ‘They have had a horrible start to enter this tournament, but their winless record should not mean that we are in a position to guarantee ourselves a win. Nothing’s guaranteed and if we win, we win. If we lose, we lose.

'Still it's a difficult second half of the tournament coming up. We have to face them, followed by a very talented Brookstation side, before a showdown against Plough Islands. So coming away with win here would be great to have, especially if we want a shot at the Super 12,' he smiled back after being asked about the second half of the first stage. 'Can we do it? Absolutely. Just have to do our best and hope for the best in terms of permutations.’

As we were saying: absolutely nothing to worry about Gruenberger batting

GruenCric can continue to confirm that there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about with regard to Gruenberg's batting in the World T20 in The Sarian. Commanding performances against Baggieland and Indusse saw Gruenberg overhaul admittedly modest totals set up by disciplined bowling and improved fielding at 10+ RPO rates, giving the team a welcome NRR boost despite their MD1 defeat. Gruenberg's batting has always been its strength and Zambuimmi Hengtridan Jr.'s blistering fifty against Baggieland in partnership with Ettexinor Broimbles, who notched another WT20 50 in a decorated career, was followed up by a Broimbles masterclass as he made a chase of 163 look straightforward, dismantling the Indusse attack on his way to an unbeaten 84.

There have never been any concerns about the strength of Gruenberger batting, just as Gurglestani citizens being held in welcome camps in the west are not being subjected to systematic deprivation of their rights, and just as GruenChem Mostly Non-Toxic Industrial Syrup Mix #7 has not caused cancer clusters to erupt in all of its major bottling facilities. GruenCric's editorial position remains that Gruenberg's batting is looking in fine shape, the sky has always been green, and the grass has always been blue.
"Do you mean "coming out"...as a Guardian reader would understand the term?"

PISTECIAL INJURY CASTS DAMPENER ON GREATERBURG UPROOTING

CHYPENBURG, THE SARIAN - An injury to left-arm swing bowler Norbert Pistecial has added a negative to what was an overwhelmingly successful day for the Hawthorns, restricting Greaterburg to a mere 120 before knocking off the runs inside eleven overs. However, in the thirteenth over of the Greaterburg innings, Pistecial tripped on the boundary rope in a valiant effort to save a boundary off Broughton Hall, spraining his ankle and putting him out of action for at least a month. If only Liam Afosha hadn’t received a minor niggle in his calves after chasing down a bottom-edged cut shot the over before.

Replacing Pistecial in Sylestone’s 15-player squad for the remainder of the tournament will be Caitlyn Freehill, who can provide versatility with the bat as well as bowl handy left-armers, obtaining cunning swing and seam to cause various issues for batters. This will be officially updated in due course.

But we can’t afford an injury - even one with consequences such as this - to dampen what was a resounding Hawthorn victory at Chypenburg’s Beestjebeek, the Esportivans thoroughly dominating with both bat and ball to move clear at the top of Group C with a massive net run-rate boost. Samuel Scron may not have picked up a first over wicket last match against TJUN-ia, but he made up for it here after Greaterburg’s skipper won the toss and elected to bat first on a track with something in it for everyone. By the end of the opening over, two of Greaterburg’s best bats were back in the dressing rooms and Scron was on a hat-trick, the score 2-2. From that point onwards, the Hawthorns would never let go of their hold on their opponents’ throat and whenever a partnership began to form, someone would come along and snuff it out. Despite Beestjebeek’s tiny, lopsided boundaries, Greaterburg could only muster a final total of 9-120 with Scron the primary destroyer with figures of 4-22 from four overs, while Samuel Asaskia and Kate Sonnel also chipped in with two apiece.

At Beestjebeek, 120 was never, ever going to be enough against this rampant Hawthorn batting lineup. Similar to the Lozho game, Luke Tiati came out of the blocks firing before departing early on but this time, the stage had been set for an absolute shellacking. Lachlan Cocrine did not hold back, belting two fours and four sixes inside the remainder of the powerplay as Sylestone closed in on the total. Even when Cocrine was caught out at deep square-leg going for one big shot too many, Nicholas Lovia took over the reins just fine, guiding his nation to the verge of victory by his dismissal at the end of the tenth over, the score 3-110.

With victory assured, captain Luke Tiati opted to give a few players a go in the middle, sending out Samuel Asaskia for some much-needed time out in the middle. However, Brianna Eastwood, having watched her teammates slaughter the Greaterburg bowlers to all parts of Beestjebeek, had other ideas, crunching the first three balls of the eleventh over to the boundary to complete an astonishing seven-wicket win. She finished unbeaten on 41 from 28 balls, equal top-scoring with Cocrine (41 from 19) as the Hawthorns moved alone at the top of Group C.

But in the words of Samuel Scron, though, “we cannot afford to take Liventia lightly. Sure, we might’ve slaughtered our opponents in three of our four games so far, but the one match we didn’t - against TJUN-ia - we very much could have lost. And remember, TJUN-ia are only ranked thirtieth, while Lozho, Greaterburg and Lionsroar are all making their debuts. Liventia are number two, only behind Ko-oren. We might have the best record across the entire tournament at the moment, but we’re still ultimately underdogs in this clash. For that reason especially, I’m determined to go out there tomorrow at Tucanviul and win this game. I believe we can win this thing, but in order to do that, we must show we can beat the very best.”

Stumps!: Finally, A Win!

Postby TJUN-ia » Wed Nov 16, 2022 6:24 am

After a tough loss to Sylestone send us into a hole, the Bowlin' Jagaurs of TJUN-ia were in a situation where they knew that making it to the Super 12 stage may require a bit more than winning the rest of their games. That is a fact that everyone knew at this point, their 1-2 record speaking more words than words possible, but Virat Indushapa knew that despite everything going on, they had to take things one game at a time...because overthinking things this deep in the campaign is not a good idea at all.

Today would be our 2nd contest of a triple-header at Klifzijde in Oud Saarum, this time against winless debutants Lionsroar. We won the toss and elected to bat first, sending out Jason Walkins and Logan McGarra to start us off on our quest to make it back to an even record. The innings here...would certainly be interesting, as the worn-down pitch would mean balls would go in wildly different directions and cause chaos for those up to bat. In this regard, we tried our best to grind through the pain and produce a score that could be defended in a scenario such as this one. We did lose 7 wickets in this stand, mostly due to wild pitches, but our batting did enough to push on regardless with Zawar Ahmed managing the best score with 42*, In the end, we would end up with 161/7...which isn't too bad at all.

Lionsroar had to chase 162 and from here our bowling simply took over, simple as that. Sure, we only got 3 wickets (one each for Ahmed Ali, Peter Kylasov and Rohit Rajpore), but these innings were filled with one crucial factor that would help us win this game - the dot ball, a ball with no runs scored. Our bowlers produced A LOT of dot balls, with 3 maidens and 1 wicket maiden involved in there as well. Those dot balls would prove fatal to Lionsroar in this game and while they did put up a valiant effort with the bat, it just wasn't enough and they only managed 150/3 - enough for an 11-run win for us.

A nice bounce-back win...but we need to keep going. Next up will be another unranked team, this time a fellow 2-2 team in Lozho. Two teams looking for that 3rd win...and we need to be very careful here. GO BOWLIN' JAGS!

Kriketti-ajatuksia 2-IV: Back To Reality

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Wed Nov 16, 2022 8:26 am

So...we're 3-0. Mitä vittua on tekeillä? We knew that this team was good, but beating the hosts? Damn, we might actually be good at this you know? Obviously, the national mood surrounding the Karhut was through the roof and everyone was talking about how this team were leading the charge in terms of "little teams that could"...except for the team themselves. Of course, beating Sarian was a major deal and should be celebrated as such...but things weren't over yet. We still have 4 games left to play and Lorcán Ua Tuathail wanted to make it absolutely clear that no hangover would be tolerated.

Turfmarktstraat in Lyntveld would host this contest against Länsi-Barack ja Itä-Obama, or simply West Barack and East Obama to everyone else, who we're 2-1 under the stewardship of Hank Zobama and captaincy of Trent Vobama (I think you can see the theme here). We won the toss to Captain Wäinö Tykkä opted to bat first and begin the game alongside Albert Aaltonen. Things were supposed to go smoothly...and then they did not. Simply put, things are not going well when your best score is Alina Järnefelt on only 26. The Obama Bowlers were simply too good on the day, with 3 players (Mark Hobama, Stanley Obama and Kate Obammus) managing 3 wickets each while the odd one out went to Aidan O'Bama. We were simply outclassed by the ball...and would end up all out for 130 with 4 overs to spare.

With a target of only 131, things were only going one way...but the efficiency that which WBEO managed to do the job was just...incredible. Sure, we did manage to get 4 wickets in this stand - 2 for Saima Eskolaand one each for Signe Hyppia and Mika Linnankoski - but the batting was simply too good to contain, with Wong Ba Ma's half-century and a 30 for Jenny Barracki doing most of the damage. In the end, they made it home with a stupendous 8.2 overs to spare, picking up the 6-wicket win that crushed our NRR into dust. All our hard work, undone just like that.

But all the great teams in this sport have to bounce back from some strife, so things certainly ain't over just yet. Up next will be Indusse, 1-3, so that could be a bounce-back match...right? There is a 4-way tie at the top of the group...and we must fight to make sure we aren't lost in the shuffle. NOSTA KUIN KARHUT!
