Welcome to Zeta Reka and Hügeltaldom

Spending Time
Travel in the country comes in two flavors, road, and rail, but major airports for incoming traffic are located in Major cities. The main three airports are in Porto Nowi, Rekadom, Zeta Reka, Platnastigrade, Hügeltaldom, and lastly in the capital city of Aleiusia. The communities selected for CE 33 have connections to the federally operated rail system, and are connection to motorways known as the Interregional System (Sistem Medjuregionalnih or Strassen des interregionalen Systems). The tournament participants will have access to the nation of Zeta Reka, though you shouldn’t walk into to someone’s home. Lodging for fans and participants is aplenty in Zeta Reka and in Hügeltaldom. Zeta Reka’s cities are known for an active nightlife, especially the city of Porto Nowi, while Hügeltaldom is a land with diverse nature. Across the whole nation are historical sites where battles were fought, where cities grew, and where people became something great. Your currency is likely more valuable then Rekan Deni, so you might not need to spend too much on things, but don’t overspend, we can’t guarantee your purchased items are top shelf.

Culture
"Rekan people can sometimes be seen as stoic, traditionalist, hard to please, and sometimes confrontational. They tend to be cautious in decision making, unless provoked by questions of honor. Another side of Zeta Reka exists that is carefree out of nowhere, and secretly very permissive. While Zeta Reka does not consider itself oppressive, an outsider may find the place to have some cultural norms which need to be followed. Some minority groups are not culturally accepted in parts the nation. While one may be intimidated to visit, the Federal Government, Football Association, and various groups publicly committed to protect travelers at all costs. The federal government cannot protect one from scowls however. Experts advise speaking more English and less of the local languages if you have a strong accent. Ethnic tensions have spilled over into conflict before."
~Federal Football Federation of Zeta Reka & Hugeltaldom, adapted from the official bid for RTC U-18 World Cup 13

Stadiums
Zeta Reka

Stadion @ The National Sports Complex
Footballing Tenets: Aleiusia Capital, DD Aleiusia, Republic’s Cup Final
Location: Aleiusia, Glavni
Capacity: 52,000
The crown jewel of Rekan sporing venues. The Zeta Reka National Sports Complex is equipped with an athletics track around the perimeter of the pitch. The government owned complex is from times gone by and has been renovated many times over the years The complex continues to serve as the venue for National Team games, two clubs, and multiple domestic cup finals. The main stadium has a capacity of fifty two thousand. The arena has a running track, a retractable fabric roof, Zeta Reka's largest video screen, and a bevy of luxury and press boxes. In addition to the main stadium, the sports complex includes a nearby second pitch, an indoor arena, and a baseball diamond.

The stadium complex is located in the capital city of Aleiusia and is just three kilometers away from the International Airport of Aleiusia (IAA). Glavni Woz, the capital district's rail provider, facilitates transport to the Complex via the underground transit system. Visitors are advised not to miss their stop at the aptly named “Sports Complex” station. The Green Line takes a long time to come back around, but is scenic. The federally organized rail system also has a station within walking distance of the stadium.
Games: R1: A-1 - R2: C-2 - R3: B-1 - Finals

Energija Rekadom Stadion
Footballing Tenets: DD Porto Nowi
Location: Porto Nowi, Rekadom
Capacity: 48,000
Renovated in a mad dash after financial and regulatory issues, the building materials and constitution vehicles were still on the ground two days before foreigners arrived. The largest video board in the nation was installed. New stands were built which raised the capacity to a total of up to forty eight thousand. In addition, there were changes to the city block south of the stadium. A rehabilitated Neighborhood Hotel will be great to sleep in, and the stadium office space for DD Porto Nowi has been useful.

The stadium itself is located near the southern central coast of Porto Nowi and sits on the seven kilometer island of Ponućalivada. Ponućalivada is located inside the Abzowa ward, which is known for being middle class, with some immigration from the wider region in modern times. Ponućalivada itself is proud of having one of Zeta Reka’s strongest sports team, and got special approval for blue and yellow road signs.
Games: R1: B-2 - R2: D-1 - R3: B-2 - Semi Final: W9 v W10

West Park
Footballing Tenets: Zapadwac Porto Nowi
Location: Porto Nowi, Rekadom
Capacity: 34,655
Sponsored by financial service company IgorRade, West Park is home to a smaller football team after having temporarily hold Porto Nowi’s largest side. The stadium is located in the far west of Porto Nowi as one would presume. Fans will sit in an old but healthy bowl which at one point was Zeta Reka’s mightiest sporting venue. The stadium normally hosts the local Rekan sport of Kožalopta, and is thus a bit wide in breath and ovular compared to a normal stadium, but the field of play for the event will be within regulation size.
Games: R1: B-1 - R2: C-1 - R3: D-1 - Ro16: #1 v #16 - Quarter Final: W3 v W4

Winkle-Industrija Stadion
Footballing Tenets: VZRH Matov-Uri
Location: Matov-Uri, Ogroven
Capacity: 28,500
Winkle-Industrija Stadion was built not too long after the beginning of professional football, and has had one renovation a decade ago. The facilities are comparatively poor when compared to the bigger National Sports Complex. Named after a former assassinated politician and the industrial history in the wider area, Matov-Uri’s history is a part of the package. The stadium is an all-seater with a rectangular complexion with four long stands and two corner stands named after club legends. Fans are well protected from the elements thanks to a large roof, but players will face Matov-Uri's rains. Match goers are also welcome to the city's spicy grilled food at food stands. The vendors were voted “Tastiest In The Country” by RekanSport readers for eleven years running.
Games: R1: B-2, D-2 - R2: B-1 - R3: C-2 - Ro16: #5 v #12 - Quarter Final: W1 v W2

Zaštita Stadion
Footballing Tenets: None
Location: Ofau, Rekadom
Capacity: 19,300
The only stadium which isn’t used by a football club. The stadium’s normally used for some local sporting events, including the biggest traditional folk wrestling event in the country. Seating has been added to fill in the gaps, but one looking on the outside would be quite perplexed at the stadium’s oval shaped exterior. Ofau as a city is multicultural, with Rekan and Hügeltalian influences in the city. Ofau itself has modern overhauled public transport, pricy dining, and a lot of shoulders bumping on walks to work.
Games: R1: C-2 - R2: D-2 - R3: A-1 - Ro16: #5 v #12

Vojska Stadion
Footballing Tenets: AK Stanimir
Location: Porto Nowi, Rekadom
Capacity: 19,000
Home to a former army team, the name Army Stadium fits this northeast Porto Nowi venue. The venue has been given a short term seating extension of four thousand and the seating was completed in a mad dash before the Tournament. Some refer to the four extra seating blocks as “ugly” since they cut off some natural scenery and quaint homes of the conservative area of the city. The stadium is fairly disconnected from the other Porto Nowi stadiums, but the fans of AK Stanimir love that. Still visible in the distance is the hilltop Clocktower Pticacrvena, a landmark in the neighborhood which is almost hundred meters tall on its own. The structure is nice, but nothing compared to the inner city’s 250m tall observation tower named, “The Observation Tower.”
Games: R1: C-1 - R2: B-2 - R3: A-2, D-1 - Ro16: #8 v #9

Ogroven Stadion
Footballing Tenets: Ogroven Vanguardi FK
Location: Ogroven City, Ogroven
Capacity: 15,000
Ogroven is a name for a city, a mountain range, and the broader region of Ogroven. The people of Ogroven use the letter “v” more than Rekan peoples, and are fierce about their identity in modern times. The Kingdom of Ogroven was subjected by Rekan leaders, but under post monarchical regimes, Ogroven became alive again regionally. The city of Ogroven however has fallen under hard times, as the prebuilt Matov-Uri took prominence in her region.

Ogroven Stadion is the only stadium in CE33 with purple and cyan chairs. Ogroven Vanguardi’s home ground is a slick and quaint all seater with a modern look on the outside. The front entrance of the stadium has windows shaped in the silhouette of the Ogroven mountain chain. The stadium is relatively compact. The venue offers only a small meter of running space on corners, a set piece Zeta Reka’s NT is known for using, and is the stadium with the closest fan/dugout relationship. In preparation for the tournament Ogroven Stadion was given a new video screen.
Games: R1: D-1 - R2: A-2 - R3: D-2

Hügeltaldom

Stassengrade Park
Footballing Tenet: None
Location: Stassengrade, Hügeltaldom North
Capacity: 38,400
Sponsored by Rekan soft drink brand ColaKolaCola and normally called ColaKolaCola Kožalopta Park. Stassengrade Park is generally used for sports other than association football. The stadium takes up a larger and more ovular profile by nature, and some eight hundred extra seats fill up these areas for the duration of the Campionato. The pitch is normal size like prior multi purpose stadiums, but Stassengrade Park is still rather spacious.

The stadium has no permanent tenet, but has been host to some matches between FK Stassengrade and local rivals. The venue is in a solid location, within a mile of Stassengrade’s largest train station. Those who are in Stassengrade will be able to visit the beaches of the city, a popular tourist destination in the summer. Stassengrad is also near Hügeltaldom’s stable locations of forests and farmland, and also mines if you hate the living.
Games: R1: E-1, H-1 - R2: G-1 - R3: F-1, H-2 - Ro16: #2 v #15 - Quarter Final: W7 v W8

Jul 15 Stadion
Footballing Tenet: Sanford Der Berg PREMIER FK
Location: Ogradjena Brana Okrug, Hügeltaldom North
Capacity: 25,650
Located near the city of Stassengrade, the 15 Jul's name comes from a historic date for the locals. Rekan and Hügeltalian negotiators finished their formal treaty establishing Stassengrade and nearby areas as a free state. The centuries long distinction lasted until the socialist era, and is a part of the land's enduring culture. In present time, the date July 15th lives in on in 15 Jul's classical facade built to look like a medieval Hügeltalian cathedral. Speaking of cathedrals, one can visit the formerly active church building located in Historic Ogradjena, a full town block for tourists who wish to learn of Hügeltalian history.
Games: R1: F-2 - R2: E-2, H-1 - R3: H-1, G-1 - Ro16: #3v #14 - Semi Final: W11 v W12

Proud Tigers Stadion
Footballing Tenet: Proud Tigers
Location: Alter Platz, Glavni
Capacity: 25,000
A multipurpose venue, Proud Tigers Stadion is one of the larger playing fields in the Rekan club game, but has had its size reduced to international averages. The venue also had a seating expansion installed for the tournament. The Proud Tigers play in Alter Platz, a wealthy neighborhood connected to the powerful interests of both the city and nation. Visitors in the municipality will be in the way of important business. You ought to behave because the locals think you’re a pest. You could make the place money, so spend away at the nearby Kazino A-P located inside the city of Aleiusia itself in an exclave surrounded by Alter Platz.
Games: R1: G-1 - R2: E-1 - R3: F-2 - Quarter Final: W5 v W6

Stadion Bogatstwo
Footballing Tenet: Aleiusia Riverside
Location: Aleiusia, Glavni
Capacity: 15,000
The final stadium in the capital district, and the most eastward. Aleiusia Riverside used top flight money to fund this stadium, and had better hope for promotion to get their debtors paid. The renovated arena is still along Zeta Reka’s longest river, but unlike in times past one cannot see the water. You might just hear a boat horn when industrial deliveries are made. Stadion Bogatstwo is also now an all seater perfect for international football. In terms of parking, good luck finding a space if too many people are around. Fans of mini golf will find one the only courses in Zeta Reka, the 27 hole “Putt Iwan.”
Games: R1: E-2, H-2 - R2: F-1 - R3: G-2 - Ro16: #7 v #10

Universitätallee
Footballing Tenet: Nacionalni Univerzitet za Poljoprivredu Athletik/NUzPA
Location: Universität Okrug, Hügeltaldom South
Capacity: 14,200
Universitätallee is named in Hügeltalian and host to a team named with the Rekan language. Universitätallee is an oddly large stadium for a team which hasn’t played in the top flight for forty years. The stadium is one of the older building in the tournament, with one main stand, and two auxiliary stands near the goals. All three stands are roofed for audience comfort. The agricultural university’s dormitory buildings are visible from the main stand, though fields and hills are in between. Superstitions claim that any side which plays here for the first time will score a goal. On a side’s second match they will be beaten. Perhaps the luck of a nation isn’t the luck of a club?
Games: R1: F-1 - R2: G-2 - R3: E-1 - Ro16: #6 v #11

Rhein Jokaimić-Muller Stadion
Footballing Tenet: Ovrâd Fruchtbarkeit, Ovrâd Dragons
Location: Bauernhaus Okrug, Hügeltaldom South
Capacity: 13,488
The smallest venue of the tournament. Rhein Jokaimić-Muller’s triangular main grandstand gives this multi purpose stadium a unique appearance. Being situated near South Hügeltaldom’s largest transport juncture makes this arena easy to arrive at. The stadium hosted the Federal Athletic Championship when rennovated, and has been a success ever since. Was last used for international football when Tumbran under eighteens bested Kriegiersien in extra time.
Games: R1: G-2 - R2: H-2, F-2 - R3: E-2

THE COLONY OF THE FHULGHAMOUS PENINSULA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

The Colony of the Fhulghamous Peninsula (Full-Gah-Moose) was first established on 6 December 2008, when Fleftic explorers landed on what was then a previously undiscovered continent. These explorers landed on a large peninsula that they named Fhulghamous because of its rich and lush green forests. One of the explorers then fell into an old mine shaft while exploring the peninsula and discovered that the entire peninsula was lying on top of one of the biggest diamond deposits ever discovered by mankind. Once the explorers announced their discovery to the Fleftic government, the Democratic Republic Army Corps of Engineers was quickly dispatched to help speed up the establishment of the colony by helping in constructing settlements and assisting in constructing mining facilities to extract the diamonds within the land.

The Colony of the Fhulghamous Peninsula was officially established as a colony of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft on 6 September 2010 following the signing of Democratic Republic Act No. 2340. The colony's capital would be Port Thimpodopoulos, named after Sergeant Major Pythagoras Thimpodopoulos of the Army Corps of Engineers, who tragically died of a heart attack during the construction of the settlement that would eventually bear his name. Today, Port Thimpodopoulos has a population of ten million, accounting for just under half of the total population of the colony. Other cities in the colony were Besanza, Tadoki, Haritzaga City and Thereisnogodabad, home of Multiverse Premier League club Thereisnogodistan FC.

The colony is under the leadership of Governor-General Petrarchos Kulbano, brother of Minister of Colonial Affairs Demetrios Kulbano. His rule saw the Fhulghamous Peninsula's ascent to being one of the most economically-productive colonies of the Democratic Republic, but due to the colony's distance from the mainland Governor Kulbano is slowly beginning to treat the colony as his own personal fiefdom. This was one of the reasons why he had decided to send forth a petition to send a national team to the Di Bradini Cup, the Multiverse's top under-21 football competition. Unfortunately due to some last-minute troubles, the Fhulghamous Peninsula's team was not allowed entry into the Di Bradini Cup, leaving many people in the colony a bit unfulfilled. But when another chance to send forth a national team revealed itself, Governor Kulbano was quick to submit his team's entry, and this time he made sure that the wouldn't miss out on another chance at participating in an international competition.

HOME STADIUM (ARENA MARINOS, PORT THIMPODOPOULOS)
Image
Arena Marinos is the home ground of both FC Marinos Thimpodopoulos, which plays in Abanhfleft's Premier League (first level of the Fleftic football league system) and the Fhulghamous Peninsula national football team. It has a total capacity of 35,673 spectators. Now back in service after a magnitude 6.2 earthquake caused part of the stadium's roof to collapse and devastated the capital city of the colony, necessitating a lot of repairs.

RICHARD DAWKINS PARK, THEREISNOGODABAD
Image
Richard Dawkins Park has a capacity of 23,171 spectators. Following a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that devastated Port Thimpodopoulos, all Fhulghamous Peninsula home matches were held in RDP in Thereisnogodabad while repairs were being made on Arena Marinos. With Arena Marinos now fixed, both the Fhulghamous Peninsula Football Association and Thereisnogodistan FC have reached an agreement in which RDP will serve as an alternate venue for national team games in recognition for the time that Richard Dawkins Park served as the home stadium of the national team following the earthquake.

Neomaris is a planned city-state, which will be an important commercial hub for Lisander. Part of Prime Minister Fernand Ecker's expansionist policies, Neomaris was a guaranteed mandate next to Esportivan, under the name Lisanderian Esportivan Zone, similarly to what other nations such as New Anglican and Darmen have already established.

However, in a push more political than necessarily governing, the Lisander Parliament decided to grant a greater degree of autonomy to the territory, transforming it from a mere "overseas territory" into a "Protectorate", effectively making it a country in its own right, but in effective terms, a puppet.

The newly emancipated population is small, consisting basically of the workers building the city-state, government officials responsible for managing the project and their families. Most of the uninhabitable structures are still temporary, with the initial focus of construction being the port structures, and then the housing districts. Its ethnic composition is primarily Lisanderian, but there is also a sizeable population of workers from other countries.

And football being a mass sport, the working communities found in it an opportunity to fraternise and compete. Teams sprang up automatically, just like those who call their friends, work colleagues, neighbours or partners in religious cults to play a football match on the weekend. With the support of the Lisander Esportivan Zone administration, they had founded the LEZ Football Clubs Association (LEZFCA). However, with the recent change in the nation's status, we can say that the Neomaris Football Association (AFN is for Associação de Futebol de Neomaris) is now the most well-organised body in the small country, being in place even before the government itself has fully established itself.

It is estimated that of the 20,000 people in Neomaris, including workers, government officials and emigrants, about 47% are actively playing sports, usually as a hobby. Considering team sports, there are also a small number playing rugby and basketball. A group of migrants from Alice Bay get together to play cricket in the city park on Saturdays. There is a growing cycling culture, encouraged by the green measures that have guided Lisander's administration over the past four years. At the high-end of the population, there are those interested in sailing, a country club there is at least one company working in partnership with Camden Automobiles to establish a motor racing team to take part in the championships in Lisander.

Football accounts for about 60 per cent of the number of those playing sports. Neomaris has a small stadium, seating approximately 4500 people, in the second district, north of the city centre. Built by a partnership between the LEZ government and private companies, the stadium is used for matches between local teams, as well as other sports and cultural activities in the district. A bigger stadium is in the city's construction plans, but it is something for some time in the future.

Second District Park Stadium (4,500)

For now, AFN has extremely modest expectations. The team participating in the Campionato Esportiva is a selection of the best players among the locally formed teams. The players are essentially amateurs, but the talent of some of them is very promising. Two players stand out:

Christian Gastaldi is 17 years old, has not even finished high school yet, and has already managed to join the first team of the Civil Service Club, a team that brings together the country's civil servants. Showing talent in school sports, he can play on the team because his mother is a director in the Ministry of Finance. Leopoldo Monteverde is a 26 y.o. assistant Physical Education teacher at the First District Elementary School. He emigrated to Neomaris without a job, went through the street construction crew, then worked building slabs in some government buildings. He is completing his degree at a private university and in his spare time, plays for Second District United. He is primarily a goalkeeper, but can also play in other positions.

Campionato Esportiva roster
The team plays in a 4-1-2-3, with a focus in fast transition from the center to the sides. The best eleven is the following:

12 - GK - Leopoldo Monteverde - Goalkeeper that can also play as a field player in case of an emergency. Formal job: PE Teacher.
2 - RB - Mario Bonini - Bonini is, along with his brothers, the owner of a small supermarket chain. He doesn't have much quality with the ball, but he pressures his opponents well. That is, those he usually faces.
3 - CB - Timothy Lemmens - Tim is another naturalised foreigner. Born in Vernant, he came to work as a civil engineer building a bridge, and chose to naturalise when his home country became a monarchy again, because of "ideological differences". He became a building inspector.
14 - CB - Eduardo Vetorazzi - Vetorazzi is one of the few on the team who has "high level" competitive experience, having played in the LAN (Lisander) university championship for Kasandora's Concordia University. Off the pitch, he is a police officer.
6 - LB - Scott Bannon, born in Alice Bay and naturalised. Also known as Bannon the Cannon, for the power of his left-footed kick. Aged 32, he is among the founders of Dynamo Neomaris, as well as being a well-known figure among the city's construction workers.
5 - DMF - Michel Maenoara - In his native Grand Merina he was a docker. The move to a more technologically advanced country has seen Maenoara rise to the rank of Shipping Inspector. He plays for the Civil Service Club.
15 - MF - Carlos Mauger - Mauger is a language teacher living in the second district, tutoring children and teaching in schools. He was an amateur American football kicker in Lisander.
8 - MF - Franco de Leone - Born in Lisander to Arianninian parents, used its birth nationality to emigrate. He works as bank clerk.
10 - CF - Juno Martins - Not a very skilful striker, but owner of a powerful shot. Off the field, he works as an electrician.
11 - RWF - Felipe Einar - A quick, good passing and attentive right winger. Played amateur football in Lisander, before moving to try his hand at life as a Personal Trainer.
19 - LWF - Christian Gastaldi - He will not be a starter most of the time, as he is not even of legal age yet. As one of his teachers is part of the coaching staff, he will receive homework even while travelling.

However, since Neomaris NT doesn't field professional players, is not like most of these ones aren't in the best of their physique. So expect a lot of player rotation. The following players, even if not the best, can still play anytime:

1 - GK - Jonas Alvarado - A fairly decent goalkeeper, a buff large in both height and weight. He owns a gym.
4 - MF - Victor Jansen - A policeman. Despite being theoretically a reserve, have reasonable quality (at least, comparing to the others)
7 - LWF - Mariano Lucero - A somewhat good footballer, will rotate in the left wing with Gastaldi. Montesinan-born emigrant, works in a car park.
9 - MF - André Neves - Midfielder, and also a trained pharmacist.
13 - RB - Christian Broen - Not so skilled as a defenseman, but sprints decently.
16 - CB - Aleo Morientes - The only player born in Aristian Republic is a fireman, and is also a phisically strong man.
17 - MF - Hassan Zarqawa - Born in Riyah, he is the fourth son of a petrol tycoon. He plays for fun, but turned out he's best than the Average Joe.
18 - MF - Bonifácio Siano - Siano played for the Lisander Olympic team of Lisander in Terranean Coast, but after leaving the College and moving to Neomaris, he works as an Art Teacher.
20 - CB - Lucas Vieira - Vieira is another construction worker playing for Dynamo Neomaris.
21 - FW - Benjamin Vargas - Vargas is a strong kicker, but can be caught offside as easily as breath.
22 - FW - Florian Salles - The striker of Second District United. Works as school secretary 9 to 5 and as Deliveryman in weekends.
23 - LB - Giacomo Campana - Another fast sprinter, can play as Left Back or Left Midfielder.

Coach - Paulo Schaefer - The only full-time football professional on the team is the coach. With coaching stints with small teams in Lisander's first division, Schaeffer was hired to help develop local football by offering workshops and training for teams to improve their performance.
Assistant - José Molina - A P.E. teacher that helps Schaefer with the training and keeps Gastaldi doing his homework.

For his first international competition, Neomaris commissioned uniforms from a certain foreign company. The federation opted for a first white uniform, a second teal uniform and a third black uniform. The company, however, does not seem to have spent much creativity on this, as the two alternative uniforms are extremely similar. The AFN has ordered a few batches of uniforms to sell and cash in.

Style Mod: +5. They give it all. This can be good or really really bad.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:

Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: No.
Godmod injuries to my players: No.
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes.
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes, as long it's reasonably explained through roleplay.
Godmod other events: No.

The manager of the team is Jon Froseth. From his time as a player, there are more stories about him off the pitch than on it, but his straightforward approach did make him an impactful presence along the touchline. Froseth earned his fame during his stint as architect of the Sandfjell Fotball dynasty, which saw them take six trophies in five seasons. But pundits do remark that lies more than a decade behind us and he never really replicated those days. In the press conference for his appointment, he claimed that this role 'was the only one for which he would have come out of retirement'. Something which sounds heartfelt if he hadn't used this exact same phrase with his last two jobs.

Under his guidance, one can expect Cap Nord to play rather defensive reaction-based football with a tough block of four in the heart of the organization and fast wings to fuel targetman Myrrheim. If the circumstances allow it, Froseth keeps his replacements few and late, claiming it breaks the rhythm of a team. Players with squad numbers over 17 can expect to barely feature. To keep those satisfied, the robust Froseth was paired with his younger assistent Van Nooten, a composed and sympathetic fellow who excelled with the Sporting Noordende U23 but couldn't convince at the helm of Stade Saint-Loic.

GK. 1. Siel Leuwert. Draiewikum Boys: a fine shotstopper with excellent reflexes but mediocre feet. The proverbial goalkeeper craziness limits itself to an unusual interest in pottery and ceramics.
RD. 2. Brian McLean. Clachonoch Rovers: the highest BMI of the selection but it will not stop him from doing the line a hundred times each game. Always has his heart in it, sometimes even his brain.
CD. 3. Patrick van Hilvaren. Sporting Noordende: elegant central defender from the Sporting academy. That means impeccably dressed, precise passing, lots of cunning and a bit of complaining with the referee.
CD. 4. Jonathan Peary. Sielhafen 1. FC: a bit of a journeyman for Capnordese terms, but the ideal what you see is what you get. A skinhead who can and will murder his direct opponent.
LD. 5. Erik Brymsaeter. SK Sandfjell: looks rather like a violinist than a football player. Nonetheless without remorse and a good first touch. Called 'The Pencil' for his feet, build, moustache and prose.
DM. 6. Carl Worbe. Sielhafen 1. FC: made a personal brand out of being boring, allowing 1. FC fans to call a characteristic, simple, 1-0 win a 'Worbe Dream'. Loyal soldier who does the extra yards.
DM. 7. Dirk Lemmeling. FC Waalterzee: if he is on your team, you call him a spirited engine with duelling power. Everyone outside of Waalterzee thinks he's a dirty bastard and a cheeky trickster.
AM. 8. Jonas Persson. FF Stennköping: the man with the plan, or at least, that is what the nation hopes. Whimsical and slow, but on his day he has brilliance in his vision and a catapult in his crooked left leg.
RW. 9. Rohan Williams. Sporting Noordende: in all aspects a beautiful footballer. Makes the covers of the sports section with his dribbles, of the newspapers with his podcast and of the tabloids with his flirts and cars.
ST. 10. Till Myrrheim. Sandfjell Fotball: two metres of unfiltered firepower, with a babyface on top. A gentle giant outside the game, Myrrheim shuns no duel and weighs on an opposing defense.
LW. 11. Dieter Scharf. Sielhafen 1. FC: a short ersatz playmaker who finds space when it doesn't exist. Known as an einzelganger and a fremdkorper. Believes that scoring is 'just for the simpletons'.

GK. 12. Pierre Le Vallez. Fallwich United: potentially better than Leuwert but his style is poorly suited for this line-up. Towering in the box.
CD. 13. Thomas Noble. Fallwich United: no nonsense but a lot of everything else: shouting, yellows, knee-high tackles and tattoos.
DM. 14. Andreas Hom. Lydholm Forened: former playmaker who slowly drifted back on the pitch. Good option to turn a game around.
AM. 15. Gitte Nilsen. Norreborg 59: the queen of the free kicks who can make difficult actions look amazingly simple. And the other way around.
LW. 16. Eduard Longlet. FF Stennköping: too tall for a winger, too nimble for a striker, too dumb for a playmaker, still pretty decent.
ST. 17. Murad Benkasar. Vereniging Huftstad: brings more football IQ to the pitch than the first choice but tends to miss those sitters.

LD. 18. Deirdre Barnett. Clachonoch Rovers: a fan favourite but a bit too slow to be great.
CA. 19. Pieter Valentijn. Sporting Noordende: a one-man battering ram and just as intelligent.
RM. 20. Steffen Haugen. SK Sandfjell: can be used as a crafty Swiss knife, but a little bit blunt.
CM. 21. Jip Corstjens. FC Waalterzee: hard worker who allows vertical play to happen around him.
CD. 22. Bengt Gustafsson. Lydholm Forened: bland, but Peary and Noble needed an alternative that's not a moron.
GK. 23. Johannes Marzinn. Sielhafen 1. FC: youngest player and mainly here for the long term.

CEYNE ISLES
Preferred Formation:
4-4-2
Style Modifier: 0
Playstyle: Like a crap lower-league Nepharan team, because they basically are. Big, strong and hardy.
Kit Supplier: from Anglatia
Captain: Vivi Conlan
Nickname: the Pirates
Pronunciation Guide: "You'd have to be insane to live in Ceyne."

The Pirates are back, for whatever it's worth, and now inexplicably relevant. Some bookies are actually giving credible odds for them to win! 'Credible' meaning like, 25/1, but still. Realistically, though, they're here to get used as a launchpad by a proper side on the up.

Tactics
Image
First-choice lineup.
Built together through a handful of journeymen, most of whom have little professional experience. The Ceynes league is about as bad as professional leagues go. They play a physical, aggressive and direct style, with a little bit of creative flair just enough to liven up an otherwise predictable attack.

Staff
Manager: Kaelin Nkruma - Age 43
Manages Roschester Pride full-time and is moonlighting here, trying to get this odd journeyman side over the line. Considered intelligent, progressive and innovative.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Leoni Joyce - Age 30 - Cranequin City (NPH)
12 - GK - Casey Stafford - Age 23 - Rutland FC (CDG)
18 - GK - Vance Marcus - Age 32 - Roschester Pride

Leoni Joyce has long held the role, but Casey Stafford looks by far the more talented goalkeeper, athletic, powerful and agile. Marcus isn't in the conversation.

Defenders
2 - RB - Vivi Conlan - Age 30 - Southern Star (BRE)
3 - LB - Tyna Marsden - Age 27 - Freeport Sharks
5 - CB - Constance Dray - Age 30 - Herty Hat Tricks (KND)
6 - CB - Cromwell Thorne - Age 29 - Rosbank Town (BRE)
13 - CB - Gerhard Lukonde - Age 24 - Wyndham Athletic
19 - RB - Arvis Klain - Age 27 - Arrowhead Lake
22 - LB - Trisha Nzonzi - Age 27 - US San Savola (SOR)
24 - CB - Gale Ngom - Age 23 - Roschester City

A decent defence has emerged, bolstered by the recruitment of Cromwell Thorne - a patchy defender at A-League level but top 32 is top 32. They'll all hopefully get through every match intact, because the backups are all locally-based, which is not a good thing.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Phenalope Carden - Age 27 - AFK Imperialismus (ZRH)
7 - RM - Niall Kuol - Age 23 - Thor's Rest Storm (COR)
8 - CM - Morgan Brandis - Age 27 - Randwick Town (BRE)
11 - LM - Meretricious Keane - Age 21 - Roschester Pride
15 - CM - Darling Keates - Age 31 - Old Boys Club (EUR)
16 - LM - Berenice Tzaha - Age 24 - Waterfleet (TLI)
18 - HM - Deandra Maker - Age 20 - Freeport Sharks
20 - RM - Beckett Carney - Age 29 - Swanguard Athletic (QUE)
25 - AM - Zander Coleman - Age 21 - Wyndham Athletic
26 - CM - Emile Cruickshank - Age 19 - Arrowhead Lake

A new core is starting to shine through, but there's still a role for the old guard to play. They'll be playing a straightforward 4-4-2 and the role of Carden and Keates is primarily to keep things quiet, win the ball and get it moving forward down the wings. They're seasoned and clever enough to get that done. Tzaha and Kuol are a bit more than just straightforward crossers, though, offering some trickery and deftness.

Forwards
9 - ST - Sanguine Kamau - Age 26 - Hanai Breakers (CMT)
10 - ST - Seneca Kemp - Age 30 - Newton Arran (TLI)
14 - ST - Tempest Birch - Age 30 - EFS (EUR)
17 - ST - Ingrid Gravehurst - Age 24 - Real Pablo FC (BOL)
21 - ST - Howe Carrigan - Age 25 - Baptists (SFD)

The Pirates actually have quite a capable striker corps at this stage, and it appears that for the most part the combination of Kamau's athleticism and Gravehurst easy ruthlessness in front of goal will be first-choice, with the towering figure of Birch an obvious Plan B.
Former Nepharan territory, former Anglatian puppet, current Brenecian puppet. It's complicated, but probably not as much as it sounds.

THE TUMBRAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
The Black Eagles

Image

IMPORTANT OOC NOTE: For all intents and purposes, this Tumbra that began contesting in WCQ87 is an entirely new nation. They have no recollection of their earlier exploits from WC70-80, because that simply didn't exist for this Tumbra. Any and all similarities to the nation of the similar name can and should be construed as glitches in the Multiverse. You may, however, make muted references to "having done this before" or something. For a detailed explanation of how this came to be, read these RPs.

The Tumbran National Football Team is Tumbra's main representative in all association football competitions for national associations. Making its debut at the 87th World Cup Qualifiers, the team currently ranks 4th in the world. The team is controlled by the Tumbran Football Federation, which is also the governing body of football in Tumbra. Also known as the Black Eagles, or affectionately the Eagles, the team competes in the World Cup and its related competitions. The team also participates in the Campionato Esportiva, also sends teams to the Di Bradini Cup for Under-21s, and the Under-18 World Cup. The team have won the 51st edition of the former tournament and the 13th edition of the latter tournament; which has led to a keen emphasis on bleeding youth into the national team set-up early. With a loyal travelling contingent of supporters known as the Black Army, the Tumbran national team's support will be on display throughout this tournament, with lots of tifos and loud cheers expected throughout matches.

Tumbra returns for its fifth Campionato Esportiva with its highest-ever world ranking; fourth in the world and first in the region, despite a disappointing loss to South Newlandia in the semi-finals of the previous Campionato and an extra-time loss to Brenecia in the World Cup's third-placed playoff. With new rules in place internationally, Tumbra will be bringing twenty-six players to this tournament and all future ones, and make five substitutes a match, with a potential sixth in extra time.

The Manager

Yuan, 61, managed the Yuezhou Dragons in their debut cycle in the World Cup, finishing a miraculous third as a ninth seed, beating countries like Northwest Kalactin and Eraman — before bringing Yuezhou to the quarterfinals of the Copa Rushmori 36. A difficult start to the World Cup 87 cycle saw him lose his job, however. Slated to take on the job at AC Valanari, visa issues meant he was never able to take on the job — and was a free agent until the approach from the national team to replace the recently-departed Marco Hemmings. Prior to his foray in international football, he also served as a coach for WNS Nangang. Since joining the Tumbran national football team, he has brought it to great success; qualifying for the World Cup in all three cycles cycles he's been with the country now, reaching the semi-finals in the latest occasion; and a regional title, to boot.

Touted as a defensive manager, Yuan chose to set the Dragons up with five defenders during his time with them; but has already indicated his preference for playing with four at the back in Tumbra. Utilising an aggressive midfield press, the Black Eagles fall into a 5-4-1 in defence, with the defensive midfielder dropping back to provide an extra man in defence. With the ball, it's fast, one-touch counterattacking; constant running is the name of the game here.

Tumbra will not play for penalties and will try as often as possible to finish a match in ninety or a hundred and twenty minutes.

THE FOOTBALL TEAM OF THE UNITED CLANS
The Warriors • Na Gaisgich

The clans of what the international community now knows as the Northlands have lived in peace from the outside world for over two hundred years, only squabbling amongst themselves without ever resolving any of their differences. To their south is Tumbra, who have by and large left them alone; to the north, an exclave of the Hinodejin Empire who couldn't be less bothered by them, and to the west, Damukuni, who haven't really done anything in quite a while.

Then everything changed when the Federal Republic declared, one day, that the land that the clans lived on was part of Tumbra. Their justification? That it was unclaimed land. Technically it was; the clans, in their fighting amongst themselves, had missed the boat almost entirely on the whole "nation-state" thing that was going on around them. They had no central government, no recognisable society, nothing; just five major clans (and a lot of minor ones) duking it out with each other to try and come out on top, and never succeeding. The land they tilled was rich; what lay beneath it, even richer. It was rife for the taking, and the Federal Republic of Tumbra decided it would become theirs.

It takes a crisis to spur action, and so Clan MacKenzie — the strongest of the five biggest clans, at least for the time being — called a Council of the Clans. All their neighbours, all their friends, enemies; all would stop fighting, and all the clans, big and small, would travel to Clan MacKenzie's seat of power, Dún Rallih. There they would decide what to do to deal with the Southern Threat. There they would determine their future. Whether they would unite, and hold strong against the foreign invaders, or whether they would splinter, shatter, and see their home lost forever.

There they would determine their future. Whether they would unite, and hold strong against the foreign invaders, or whether they would splinter, shatter, and see their home lost forever.

Home, away, alternate. Home takes from the nation-to-be's colours; away is a nod to the rivalries put aside for the nation-to-be; and the third is a cry of help and a show of thanks to the region at large.

See, these people aren't footballers. They're regular people, called to the cause to be a part of the nation-to-be, to try and get their message out to as many people as possible. Because they knew there was never going to be a chance in hell that a country of a hundred and fourteen million hellbent on erasing their existence from the record was going to try and let them get their message out. So they had to get it out somehow else.

Sports.

The team of the United Clans is not a member of CONESPIO, nor is it likely to ever be; given that Tumbra will never entertain the notion of a part of it also being on CONESPIO and not under Tumbra. But you do not need to be a member of CONESPIO to be a part of the Campionato; and in the vote to give it observer status at CONESPIO, and the right to join the Campionato, Tumbra could not get enough support to turn the Clans away. And so here they are.

The Coach

Henry MacClellan hails from, fittingly enough, Clan MacClellan. It's the only clan in the Homelands that doesn't call itself a clan of an animal; rather it claims itself as the clan of the thistle. Resilient, never breaking under pressure, and hardy, the MacClellans have always been seen as iconoclasts. They shun war, taming their beasts and tilling their land, and dedicating themselves to living the best life they can. It makes sense, in a weird way, that Henry MacClellan was always very interested in football. Everyone else in the general vicinity was interested in war; everyone else in his clan was interested in farming and just living life peacefully; MacClellan was interested in whacking balls around with his foot. So when he offered his services to not send the team to certain doom, he was accepted, gratefully. Nobody knows if he will pull it off, however.

None of these people are professional footballers. But they will do. Sabrina has the reactions of a cat, Ruth and Joseph are both fast, Bruce and Tom both built like mountains; William in the middle of it all ready to hack anyone who stands in his way down. Sophie up front is the real wildcard; maybe if she was five years younger, if, just if, she hadn't been born under these unlucky stars, where professional sports just weren't a thing, she'd be a real star. But professional sports aren't a thing. And so she wastes her life in her father's blacksmith shop.

Most of the footballers here have similar stories. They're all physically gifted in some way or another, but most of them have never kicked a football in their life, more used to just constant bickering and fighting. But they'll do. And they answered the call when the nation-to-be needed them. And that makes them heroes in their own way. But will they be able to put aside their rivalries for long enough to play football? Erm. Might need to test that bit out.

Players from 1-11 can safely be assumed to be starters, but pre-match XIs will be posted before every cutoff. Please check my RPs for pre-match lineups. If none are posted, feel free to pick and choose from this side.

The United Clans will name eleven starters and fifteen names on the bench, with up to five substitutes. In the unlikely event that they make it to extra time, a sixth substitute will be taken.

Tactical Set-Up

4-1-4-1, which was about as much tactical knowledge that could be impressed onto, well, literal amateurs. At least it isn't 4-4-2.

Left Corner Taker The player closest to the ball
Right Corner Taker The player closest to the ball
Penalties The player who wins the on-pitch argument
Direct FK Taker The player closest to the ball
Indirect FK Taker The player closest to the ball
Most likely to foul/be booked All of them
Most likely to shoot Probably Sophie MacGregor, but in all honesty it's probably all of them
Most likely to score from close-range Sophie MacGregor
Most likely to score from long-range Sophie MacGregor
Most likely to be fouled Sophie MacGregor, who's more likely to just tumble onto the floor and cry foul than actually be fouled
Most likely to attempt the spectacular The difference between stupid and spectacular is whether something succeeds or not.
All of them are equally likely to do something boneheaded that, if it succeeds,
can be called 'spectacular.' Don't hold your breath.

Trivia Information:

In A random Place, anything is decided by random luck. Every month, a random president is selected out of literally anyone in the country to decide everything. The people are aware of the obvious downsides, but never cared. The latest randomly decided President, an 8-year-old Sports fan named Kirby Quebbington, decided (among several other, considerably more stupid things) that there would be a random squad of players entering the Campionato Esportiva, once again for fun, after they missed the last one with a very grouchy old man president not being interested in football.

Head coach:
The Randoms were forced to fire Brian Adkins, their former manager, because A Random Place opposes the brutal war on the Northlands. As such, the Tumbran was shown the door. They’ll just roll without a coach. In true Randomer fashion, they will rely mostly on luck. Please feel free to make things as ridiculous as you want.

2029 FEDERAL ELECTION

Highlights from the Final Debate

Present were Prime Minister Michael Kirkland from the Labour Party, Leader of the Opposition Stephen Williams from the Liberal/National Coalition, and Cressida Granger from the Progressive-Green Alliance.

OPENING STATEMENTS

Kirkland - "Over the past twelve years, Labour have brought stability and continued growth to our great Republic, and have pushed new horizons for our nation with the Northlands. We are best placed to bring Tumbra forward, and continue the natural integration of the Northlands into the Federal Republic, and continue the great progress this Labour government has made over that time. We've made great strides on helping the poorest in our society get on their feet, and that may all be in danger if a Liberal government takes charge of this nation after this election. I, and the Labour Party, humbly ask once again for your first preference vote at the ballot box in three days' time."

Williams - "A decade long spending spree, a misguided belief that the state is best-placed to handle major economic matters and an increasing centralisation of powers in Straton. That is the legacy of this Labour government which has blindly led our Republic into the cost of living crisis and the security crisis that we face today. It's time for them to hand over the reins of power to the party that can best handle the economy. And it is only with the Coalition's real solutions to the real problems that Tumbra faces today that we can progress. Only we are able to deliver the policies that a Tumbra, sick of the yoke of the Labour Party, so desperately needs to bring inflation under control and ensure that our future remains bright."

Granger - "Every election, we hear the same thing from the two big parties — that they are best placed to tackle the problems that continue to face Tumbra. Things like inequality, the redistribution of wealth, and climate change. And yet, all these problems still exist, year on year, because they simply aren't brave enough to acknowledge the massive changes we require in our society to facilitate that. That is why the Alliance has stepped up to provide a platform for that change. We can stop our actions in the Northlands that have brought waves of international condemnation upon our Federal Republic and tarnished our reputation for being a peaceful country on the world stage. We can deliver change to those that need it the most; while ensuring that everyone pays their fair share. The Alliance presents a bold alternative for Tumbra's future; one that promises a more hopeful, a kinder, a more caring society, that provides more for the many — and not just the few."

THE NORTHLANDS

Kirkland - "We have increased troop deployments into the Northlands, have been conducting military exercises with our ally Quebec and Shingoryeo to keep the people of the Northlands safe and we are continually monitoring the actions of the terrorist group known as the United Clans through our robust state security surveillance, once again, to keep people safe. The people of Tumbra have seen our response to the bombing of Blackthorn Town Hall, and we're continually preparing for the next stage of maneuvers into the Northlands. Our two settlements in the Northlands have been recovering magnificently from the bombing — the hosting of a sporting event proves that well enough — and we are continuing to make plans for the future. We have prepared a Bill to pass during the next Parliament that will give the federal government investigatory powers into those attempting to undermine our Republic, and that will go a long way to bringing peace in the Northlands. Now I don't like bringing the military into politics — I believe that they function best outside of it —"

Granger - "Prime Minister, if I may, all this wouldn't be needed if we weren't in the Northlands in the first place. Peace in the Northlands could very easily be achieved if we pulled the plug on this colonisation project that has eaten a gigantic hole into this country's finances, and the security threat would very simply disappear!"

Kirkland - "Miss Granger, leaving the Northlands as it is a greater security threat to our nation than bringing it under our own banner."

Granger - "Until recently — when this Labour government, with you as Minister for Defence, I might add, decided to unjustly colonise their land — the United Clans were minding their own business. They are fighting back now only because we have set fire to the hornet's nest, and attempted to take away their right to self-determination. This security threat you are describing, Prime Minister, is self-wrought; it is something we have brought upon ourselves. It is the equivalent of sticking a pole into the spokes of a bicycle we are riding on and then complaining that the wind is to blame for pushing us over."

Williams - "What I think both of you, Prime Minister and Miss Granger, are missing the point on, is that we are pouring troops into an area that has great potential to revitalise the Tumbran economy; yet we are missing out on many, many opportunities because we are wasting time. I have great faith in our country's military and the leaders it produces — I have the great honour to be debating against one tonight — but I believe that we must take out the leadership of the United Clans in order to make progress on this issue. We know who the leadership comprises of — it is not like they have shied away from international recognition, having gone around the world, holding out a begging bowl asking for not pennies but bombs — and if we can lop off the head of the leadership of these terrorists, then we can make some real progress on the issue. The longer we spend fighting terrorists and not investing in the Northlands, the more we are shovelling money into a black hole, and that is one of the major causes of this inflation we have right now!"

Granger - "To the viewers at home, how different are the words that these two are saying? Both of them are claiming that they would do a better job at invading the Northlands. None of them have considered that the invasion of the Northlands is tarnishing our nearly two-century strong legacy of being a strong abider of a rules-based international order. None of them have considered the impact of the invasion on our longstanding friendships, be it with the Licentian Isles, be it with Omerica, be it with the Oceanian Republic. We are at a crossroads when it comes to our foreign policy; either we can go down the path of being a pariah, or we can turn back before it is too late and reclaim our senses."

FOREIGN POLICY

Williams - "Our relations with the Esportivan Union must continue; but I am not as enthusiastic as the Prime Minister when it comes to the prospect of Esportivan integration. We have maintained an option on not joining the Espo, and it would be our priority to exercise this option. To allow our economic fortunes to be dictated elsewhere, to surrender our control over our economic fate to some bureaucrat, is a red line for myself and the Liberal Party; it would be a surrender of our soverengity."

Granger - "And yet, the adoption of a single currency would mean we are able to break down more trade barriers, and trade freely with nations that need our help like Brenecia. Here I was, thinking that the Liberal Party stood for and was founded on the basis of liberalisation in trade; but now I understand that they only seek to liberalise opportunities for themselves, and leave the rest of the world in the dust."

Williams - "Are we a charity shop? A resource mine, for the Verdeans and Brenecians and Kuraitans to bleed us dry and make off with the hard work that Tumbrans have created through the sweat of their brow? No, I dare say, we cannot give everything away for free. We can help, and we must help our neighbours — working together with Brenecia to rescue them from the dire economic circumstances that they find themselves in is of paramount importance to creating good relations with our neighbours — but we cannot place them before us. One of the three of us on this podium is going to become Prime Minister after this election, Miss Granger, but unfortunately if you are going to place other countries before the Federal Republic's interests, I struggle to see how the Tumbran people should elect you to lead them."

Kirkland - "Our current course of foreign policy — of being a leader regionally, and in the hope of growing international power, particularly within the Atlantian Oceania-Anaia-Esportiva-Rushmore-Melayu axis — is well on course to being fulfilled thanks to the hard work that our diplomatic corps have put in to increase the standing of Tumbra in the world. We maintain an option on not joining the Espo, as Mr. Williams says — that was one of our conditions for joining — and until we see more research, more results, more hard evidence that the Espo is indeed an improvement over our current circumstances, we shall continue as a full member of the Esportivan Union but not in the Espozone. The Brenecian crisis as we see it today is extremely worrying for our neighbours; and we must provide all assistance that we can — but we cannot be too generous in our giving, either. The world is not as black and white as Miss Granger and those supporting her sees it, really; and I can reassure her now that we are doing all we can to help Brenecia in their dire straits."

TAXATION AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Williams - "I stand here today as the only person who will promise to cut your personal income taxes, put more money back into your pocket and help you tide over the current high costs of living that you face today. Simply put, the taxation regime under this Labour administration is too complicated, too high and the revenue is being wasted on programs that could easily be better spent by you, the people. And no, the Alliance will not help matters; all that money for the additional social programs they wish to fund has to come from somewhere."

Kirkland - "The social program cuts detailed in the Coalition's costings are social programmes that millions of the most vulnerable Tumbrans rely on to get by. It would be utterly, utterly immoral for any government to tell millions of underprivileged Tumbrans to stand up on their own two feet when they are unable to even get by in the first place. The federal government exists to help the common person; the Liberal Party exists to help the rich get richer. You, Mr. Williams, may present yourself as a moderate, but behind you and in your Shadow Cabinet exists a group of people who would willingly sell off crucial government infrastructure to line their friends' pockets. Our healthcare system. Our benefits system that millions of people rely on. Our public transport, which goes a long way to ensuring that our country is able to transition to becoming an ever-more economically friendly one. Make no mistake, behind the wolf in sheep's clothing presented by the Liberal Party tonight are a bunch of wolves in wolves' clothing; and they will not be as hesitant as the Leader of the Opposition when it comes to dismantling the infrastructure of the Federal Republic."

Williams - "The Prime Minister, even after twelve years in government, doesn't seem to understand the concept that high taxe hurts the economy simply because it means that there is less money in the public's pockets."

Kirkland - "And the Leader of the Opposition doesn't seem to understand that it's not how much is taxed, but rather where the tax burden falls, that drives growth."

Williams - "The tax burden, regardless of where it falls, is simply too high on everyone. The ordinary person, the small business owner, the middle class, the working classes. The Labour government's tax and spend policy across the past decade, simply put, has created a Tumbra where the people are unable to spend the money that they need. Their wages, that have been taxed so highly by the government, are low; and this has contributed to the cost of living crisis that we see today. Our common sense plan to put more money into people's pockets would see people able to buy the things they need at the local store, put more money back into the economy and help our economy start moving again."

Kirkland - "The Leader of the Opposition says these very reassuring words, about how he can go around with a hedgeclipper and trim all the bits of the federal government off that he doesn't like, and suddenly millions of dollars will appear out of nowhere — but he doesn't realise that leaving millions of people out in the cold, leaving millions of people without unemployment benefits by tightening the criteria to receive said benefits will not help the economy, nor our society."

Williams - "The insinuation that I am merely another member of the Liberal Party, so hell-bent on cutting everything like some kind of crazed axeman, is absurd, Prime Minister. I recognise that social services are needed, that social programmes need to be funded; but the problem is that we are spending too much money on these programmes! We will not seek to cut benefits for millions of people, but rather slowly decentralise the system and return that power to the states. The states are much smaller; they will be able to handle our bloated welfare system more efficently; and we will be able to cut the federal tax rate on all kinds of things for everyone. I am not saying, unlike some of my predecessors, that we should move to a low-tax state where the market provides for everything. I am instead saying that the issue of taxation goes hand-in-hand with what role we wish the federal government to play in our lives, vis-a-vis our state governments. And what I have advocated for, throughout this election campaign, is the system of New Federalism, which would see more powers dedicated to our states, who are better-placed to handle such matters."

Kirkland - "I, along with the rest of the country, can hardly be expected to believe in this claim from the Coalition that they won't try and cut the state down to size, whatever that means. We have lived through several administrations worth of Liberal cuts and cuts — the Hayes administration, the Roscoe administration, the Rainer administration, all of whom embarked on a series of cuts whose effects can still be felt to this day. Again, Mr. Williams, I do not doubt your credentials as a moderating figure in the Coalition; I doubt that the rest of your Cabinet feels the same way that you do. We are all too familiar with the bickering of the two wings of the Liberal Party — and that's even before you add in the National Party, who are even more keen to dismantle the federal government. The federal government is not some kind of evil, some kind of malevolent force hell bent on taking away your autonomy — that is a fiction invented by the right to encourage the sell-off of our state assets to the private market, where they will inevitably end up in the pockets of the rich."

Williams - "If I am unable to impress my views on the rest of the Cabinet if elected and lead from the front, Prime Minister, then I will have failed as both a party leader and a Prime Minister."

ELECTORAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL REFORM

Context: The federal Conservative Party, led by firebrand populist Alan Spalko, has been accused of money laundering, leading to several Senators leaving the caucus of the Conservative Party. A few Senators, unwilling to leave the Conservative Party and at the same time also unwilling to condone the federal leadership, have considered resigning. This has presented problems for the Premiers of several states, not least because the Constitution writes:

99. Any Senator, may, in writing, offer their resignation to the President, who shall then, on advice from the head of government of the State that the Senator comes from, appoint a new Senator to complete their term.
a. The new Senator shall come from the same political party, alliance or coalition of the previous Senator, with the same rules applying for any Senator with no party affiliation.

Several Premiers have gone on record saying that they would be unwilling to nominate another Senator from the Conservative Party to take the departed Senator's place. This has led to a flurry of activity over how casual vacancies in the Senate should be handled; and whether Premiers can just leave seats vacant until the next Senate election, due in about three years' time.

Kirkland - "...rarely have we seen such a situation where our Constitution has been on the verge of being tested like this. I don't think that the situation we might find ourselves in if Conservative Senators resign from the Senate altogether is ideal, especially given that the Premiers of several states — seven, by my reckoning — have floated the possibility that they might refuse to appoint a Senator nominated by their state party to that body, given how the federal Conservatives have been beset by troubles lately."

Granger - "Troubles? They were neck deep in corruption. The Internal Revenue Service and the federal Anti-Corruption Agency have been investigating, and each the day the evidence keeps mounting up against a party whose entire structure allowed one man to get away with everything. I don't think it's unreasonable for the Premiers to float the possibility of not appointing anyone to the vacated Senate seats if the respective Senators resign. Not appointing someone to a vacant Senate seat would not be contravening the Constitution; it would be playing politics, sure, but in this one very specific case, where the party in question has shown a serious moral deficit..."

Kirkland - "Allowing Premiers to keep the seat vacant upon a casual vacancy occurring would be setting a dangerous precedent for Premiers to refuse to appoint Senators from the opposite party, or anyone not from their own party. This is not a path I wish to see Tumbra head down; this is not a path any of the three of us should endorse. At the end of the day, regardless of my political opposition to the Conservatives, I still wish to see the Constitution followed, until we can come up with a better solution to these kinds of things."

Granger - "I'm not suggesting we allow Premiers to hold a blank cheque on Senate appointments. I'm suggesting that Premiers shouldn't be expected to appoint members of a party that is currently under federal investigation to Senate seats; and that their reluctance to appoint these Senators is understandable."

Williams - "At the end of the day, however, they are still expected to follow the Constitution; and we should instead be looking at Senate reform, including the prospect of Senate special elections to fill in vacant seats...the prospect of a Conservative Senator being appointed, given the current scandals the party finds itself facing does not fill me with joy, either. But the alternative — undermining the Constitution and opening the door up to all kinds of political games — is even worse."

Kirkland - "The need for Senate reform has become a topic in this election, and for good reason; I do believe the Senate needs reform, and I am more than willing to lead the way in this. Making it easier for independents to win Senate seats through a shift to open-list proportional representation and special elections for Senate vacancies are two important changes we can make to the Constitution."

Williams - "I think there does exist a need for Senate reform, Prime Minister, but taking the freedom of appointment from Premiers does not seem like the way to go about it —"

Kirkland - "— as opposed to allowing the Premiers to hold Senate seats hostage? Some of these Premiers come from my own party, Mr. Williams, and I've tried to talk to them about this very eventuality."

Williams - "Then, seeing as you've failed to impress your views upon members of your own party, you've failed as a party leader, have you not?"

Kirkland - "I don't think it's my job to get overly involved in the affairs of the state governments, Mr. Williams. I run the federal government; they run their state governments. At the end of the day, all I can do is advise them that they're not supposed to violate the Constitution or try and skirt around it by not appointing anyone. Directly telling them that they should continue appointing Senators as per normal would be unfairly interfering in the way they run their government, and I think both of us can agree that would go against the federal nature of our Republic."

Williams - "I think the freedom of how Senators are appointed in event of a casual vacancy should be left up to the States; mandating Senate by-elections in the federal Constitution shouldn't be how a House meant to represent the States should be elected. Premiers should be given a free hand, I think, to appoint whomever they deem fit to the casual vacancy; whether that is as of a result of a by-election, or the Premier themselves, or the State Parliaments electing someone for the role."

THE RESULT OF THE ELECTION

Granger - "I've been asked all throughout the campaign — positively bombarded, even — whether in the event of a hung Parliament the Alliance will give its votes and confidence to Michael Kirkland to keep him as Prime Minister. I am tired of those questions; not just because it takes away from any agency we might wish to hold onto, but also because we may not choose to side with Labour in the event of a hung Parliament. Committing to any single side at this point of the election campaign makes it seem like we're already accepting defeat, and we're looking to support the left. No, I don't think that's fair on any of us."

Presenter - "Does this mean that you are ruling out supporting either of the two major parties in the event of a hung Parliament?"

Granger - "I'm not ruling anything out, but at the same time, I'm not committing to anything, either. At the end of the day, the parties will have to come to us for support — if they are in a position that they have to — and we'll look at things from a balanced point of view before deciding who we go with. We'd be looking at a party willing to commit to electoral reform, not just in the Senate but in the House of Representatives, a commitment to a fair and equitable tax structure, and an immediate end to the nonsense in the Northlands to begin negotiations; any of these being missing would result in talks being a non-starter."

The Free Land of Drehda (Drey-da) is a medium sized, recently formed nation with a burgeoning history and international reputation. The concept of Drehdan nationhood has existed for at least 200 years however the country was only formally established in 2020, following a declaration of victory in a long-running, viciously attritional war of seccession against Maxtopia.

The capital city is Fort Hope, a costal city which has developed around a historic naval fortification of the same name. The city and the fort at it's centre are so-named after a legendary last-stand battle in the late 1990s which saw Lieutenant Colonel James Clancy and his force of just 230 troops hold-out for 14 months of siege against the complete force of the Maxtopian military. Defeat would have meant the complete destruction of the Drehdan separatist forces, however, LTC Clancy and his small band of warriors held firm and were eventually able to keep the dream of independence and liberty alive. The miraculous story of survival was seen as a turning point in the independence campaign and the starting point for the eventual road to victory against the Maxtopian oppressors. In honour of the symbolic importance of the achievements and sacrifice, LTC Clancy formally bestowed the name of Fort Hope. The city has stood as a beacon of national pride and freedom.

Since that great battle, a moderately sized city has sprung up around the ruins of the military installion and Fort Hope now stands as a city of 1.8 million people and is home to two prominent football clubs - Fort Hope United & Fort Hope Sporting Club. Although not currently up and running, it has also been confirmed that Fort Hope will be home to it's very own franchise, the Fort Hope Lions, as part of the new Elite Performance Model which is to be established across all major team sports - football included. Drehdan people are generally a modest and reserved type, but this veneer of polite civility can sometimes slip when it comes to watching their sporting heroes.

While the capital is significantly larger than any other urban area in Drehda, other key cities include Metlock, Shankwell and Russford. There are also two unique ethnic enclaves in the regions of Hollenwaard and Wilhelmsbrook, which both have their own specific cultural and linguistic identities but are a beloved and valued part of the wider Drehdan nation.

The Free Land has a unicameral democratic Parliamentary system, with a First Minister as head of state. The government is currently lead by the National Progress party with Terry Wallace the current party leader and First Minister.

The Drehdan people are wildly passionate about sport. Football, cricket and boxing all have well-established professional systems. Hockey, rugby union, basketball and netball are all slated to have both Men's and Women's professional structures put in place under the Elite Performance Model which is due to start in the coming months.

The current football structure includes two divisions of 22 clubs and a national knock-out competition (the Football Association of Drehda Cup - FAD Cup). As well as the introduction of six new Franchises, there are also plans to incorporate expansion leagues at the lower levels below the Second Division. The Drehdan season is currently around the half way mark, with the final of the FAD Cup about to be played and followed by the second half of league fixtures).

Due to the until recent history of armed conflict, physical sporting infrastructure in Drehda can be best described as rudimentary. The current national football stadium holds just 11,000 people and is based in the heart of a residential district, although there are plans to build a new purpose built national arena. While the stadium is small compared to many other national arenas, the fans are full-throated and almost rabidly passionate. The ground is certain to be absolutely heaving and full of noise.

Fort Hope Recreational Fields "The Rec" - the shared home of Fort Hope United & Fort Hope Sporting Club, as well as the Drehdan National team.

As as recently formed country, Drehda has no experience of playing international sport and this competition will mark the nation's debut on the world stage in any sporting discipline. Both of the fans and national team management are under no illusions about the size of the task in front of them to make any significant inroads into the later stages of the tournament, but remain incredibly excited and optimistic about the opportunity to be represented against their friends and allies around Esportiva.

The Squad

#1 GK Dai Hawkins (Hennerton F.C, 33yo)
#2 LWB Oscar Lopez (Cadderick Rovers, 23yo)
#3 CB Yossi Leventhal (Currilow F.C, 30yo)
#4 CB Fraser Alnwick (C) (Fort Hope United, 32yo)
#5 CB Tymall Briggs (Fort Hope S.C, 18yo)
#6 RWB Alvin O'Gallagher (Wilhelmsbrook Warriors, 22yo)
#7 DM Bill Fulton (Fort Hope United, 36yo)
#8 CM Henrik Hellman (Currilow F.C, 26yo)
#9 CM Matty Rivers (Cadderick Rovers, 27yo)
#10 CAM Jamal Orozco (Victoria Shankwell, 22yo)
#11 ST Sándor Mészöly (Cadderick Rovers, 29yo)

#12 GK Declan Shaw (Fortuna Hollenwaard, 27yo)
#13 GK Craig Gayle (Fort Hope sporting Club, 26yo)
#14 LWB Zack Meyers (Fortuna Hollenwaard, 29yo)
#15 CB Angelo Marquez (Cadderick Rovers, 25yo)
#16 CB Ellis Schultz (Wilhelmsbrook Warriors, 24yo)
#17 CB Arsenio Gonzalez (Hennerton FC, 27yo)
#18 DM Ricky Lees (Russford Blues, 31yo)
#19 CM Julian Rosales (Victoria Shankwell, 24yo)
#20 CM Tyrelle Burns (Fort Hope Sporting Club, 23yo)
#21 CAM Donovan Reede (Cadderick Rovers, 23yo)
#22 ST Joe Summers (Hennerton FC, 30yo)
#23 ST Ross Douglas (Fort Hope United, 20yo)

Manager - Darren Billers, 48 years old

Drehda look set to line up in a 3-5-1-1 formation, with wing-backs working the touchlines to spread the game out and the midfield set up to provide support at both ends of the pitch. Veteran anchor man Bill Fulton won't provide much pace or athleticism but he'll certainly bring work-rate and organisation. Going forward Jamal Orozco will bring trickery and direct running at the defensive line with Sándor Mészöly providing the main goal threat with off-the-ball movement and prolific finishing in and around the penalty area.

LOZHO FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION presents...

The Lozhoan National Football Team!

A History of Lozhoan Football

Association football is one of the most popular sports in Lozho. During a daily five minute factory break one day, Lozhoan workers decided to kick a leftover bottle of Sozha Soda around in an improvisation of football. The bosses of Ghezhan Pens and Paper Inc. were so impressed that they decided to establish the first football club in Lozho, Ghezhan Pens and Paper FC, later shortened to Ghezhan City. The Lozho Championship (since renamed) Lozho First Division was later established, all between teams that had been established by factory bosses. Lozhoan football is a very lucrative venture, but most players play out of love, and thus are more than willing to sign four year contracts for a few Lozhons a month.

Recently, the Lozho Football Association decided to formally select a team to represent the nation on the world stage, inspired by the previously isolationist and sports-unfriendly nation of West Barack and East Obama's foray into international cricket. Lozho's dark blue and red uniforms will shine as they take the field.

The Coaching Team

Head Coach: Gezald Ponzo
Assistant Coach 1: Thomas Bluefield
Assistant Coach 2: Francis Clarke
Physio: Dr. Manafort Obama MD

Gezald Ponzo is the 61 year old former head coach of Langhan Town, with whom he won the Lozho Championship with 12 years ago in one of the biggest upsets in Lozhoan history. He has since been inbetween coaching and pundit roles, as well as filming a few commercials for Langhan & Zangzan Accountants. He brings a wealth of experience to the job, and his special expertise in team unity and morale boosting makes him perfect for the role.

He will be assisted by two assistant coaches - Thomas Bluefield and Francis Clarke. The two have been loyal assistants to Ponzo his entire career, and will be happy to assist in this new journey. Joining in a guest capacity tole is Dr Manafort Obama MD, the sports doctor for the West Barack and East Obama Cricket Team.

Starting XI

Goalkeeper: Bonzo De Jong, 31

The current goalkeeper for Gosport Pelicans, De Jong has had a long and esteemed career. Starting his career as a Pelican mascot holding up a sign to fast food restaurants, De Jong quickly rose up the ranks with his signature jumping technique. Despite being only one metre tall, De Jong can jump to anywhere in the goal and make a save, earning the nickname 'Bonzo the Guy Who Can Jump Really Far and High Which Saves Shots on Target'.

Left Full Back: Fazj Srejzjajk, 23

This fast-paced left wingback has been making waves ever since her debut for Langhan Town two years ago. Having recently been signed by Lozhoan titans Protchen United for a lucrative deal, Srejzjajk is looking to make her impact on the international stage as well. Her speed makes her a dangerous wingback who can strike opponents on the counter.

Left Centre Back: Penny Butterfield, 26

Despite plying her treade in obscurity (the second tier) for most of her career, Penny Butterfield got her big break when she was signed in a surprise deal by Protchen United. While this was considered by commentators as a "sorted by height on Lozho Manager 2022" type of signing, the two metre tall centre back puts the "no nonsense" in "no nonsense centre back". If you've conceded a corner and she's on the pitch, you've probably conceded a goal.

Right Centre Back: Drew Zaratrianias, 32

Often called "The Old Gentleman", "Zaratrianasaurus", or even "South Ghezhan Nursing Home FC Hall of Fame Inductee", this old dog Zaratrianias knows all the new tricks. Motivated by the chants that "chasing this fast will impede your arthritis", Zaratrianias intimidates any forwards that try to get past him by simply being faster. Genius!

Right Full Back: Cartzon Zohzo, 21

Another young wingback, Zohzo and Srejzjajk make up what's called 'Lozho's Finest Pair of Wings: Sponsored by Lozho's Finest Pair of Wings Fast Food Inc.'. While he is one of the younger members on the team, Zohzo is proving his worth with his outings at the Gosport Pelicans, having broken into the team as a teenager. He has the potential to be amongst the all time greats.

Left Central Midfielder: Henry Blyth, 29

The captain of the team, Blyth has both experience and a passion to improve. A one club man for Shezhen Athletic, Blyth has developed a reputation for his strong leadership and passing skills. He's also an avid online gamer, and regularly plays Valorant with his teammate Obamovich, developing his skills as a captain by strengthening his vocal cords when he has to insult "useless teammates".

Right Central Midfielder: Pazron Droozle, 27

Nicknamed "The Droozler", Droozle is known for his "droozling" skills, or in layman's terms "dribbling". Droozle can droozle a ball all around the pitch in an exhilarating display of end-to-end football. Rumour has it there's no defender he hasn't droozled past.

Left Winger: Fatrouza Smith, 22

Fatrouza Smith may come from a wealthy family of the Smith Textbooks and Notebooks and Notepads Company wealth, but he's a golden boy on and off the pitch. Speedy, crossy, and shooty, this winger can get a ball in the box any time of the day, no questions asked.

Central Attacking Midfielder: Pazrick Zouzal, 27

Zouzal is the playmaker that makes the Gosport Pelicans attacking force tick. Always able to create chances even when there doesn't look possible, Zouzal conjures a ball out of thin air. Oh, and he used to work part time as a magician. Might be related.

Right Winger: Oszalzd Drezhen, 34

A veteran of the game, Drezhen recently retired from club football. However, his boots won't be hanging up just yet, as he's decided to go for one final round as part of the national team. The legend of Lozhoan football, Drezhen is looking to remind all the other players why he's nicknamed "The Legend of Lozhoan Football" and "The Guy That's Really Prominent in Lozhoan Football".

Striker: Paxton Obamovich, 29

A refugee from West Barack and East Obama fleeing persecution for his love of football, Paxton Obamovich has taken up citizenship in Lozho and has already been banging in the goals. A target man that always makes the ball connect with his head, he just needs to jump a little bit and boom! You've conceded again. Yes, there are a lot of people who can head well on our team.

Groups Confirmed, Billers Bullish, Pragmatic

The draw for the Campionato Esportiva 33 have been made and Drehda have been placed in Group G alongside Appalachian Nation, Esportivan Darmen and the top ranked Tumbra. Head coach Darren Billers spoke to local media to give his reaction

"Well look it's obviously a tough draw, to be placed alongside the Darmen side whop are top 15 is difficult but to then get the top rated side in the whole competition is quite literally about as hard as it gets! But we came into this competition with our eyes open and expecting that there weren't going to be any easy games - to be honest I don't want easy games. This is our national debut and we want to be tested, we want to have the opportunities to prove ourselves and demonstrate our skills. It's no secret how good Tumbra are and I understand what all you journos expect us to get out of the Darmen team, but we'll work hard and take every opportunity that presents itself. All we can do is go out there, stick together and make sure we're committed in every match then we'll force the big teams to work and push them to their limits. With a little bit of good luck and lot of effort, who's to say what can or can't be achieved? We're not here just be whipping boys, we're hear to represent the whole country and show Esportiva what Drehdans are all about. And overall i don't think our fans are demanding or expecting win or bust, they just want the boys to put on a good display of classic Drehdan resiliance and bravery and I can assure everyone that's the least we'll give them."

Pundits are largely expecting Drehda to struggle in such a challenging group with it widely being anticipated that Tumbra and Esportivan Darmen could hand out resounding beatings against the international newcomers. Drehda do open their competition with a game against the unranked Appalachian Nation and it's hoped that this will mark the best chance to get a win.

NOTES FOR XANNERIAN ROSTER

1.) I will be open too and to some extend encouraging towards letting you determine my starting lineup

2.) Allison Burnes, if she gets put on the starting lineup is 5'2" so dont expect her to go after headers, but she is a super talented player and will still wreck shop if given the chance

3.) The Levi siblings must either be on the field at the same time or not. There's rumors they have psychic connections with each other and the fact domestically they play well together when all three are on seems to collaborate this.

Only one man sees no doubts
Forseth faces first whilst around him the question marks pile up

Walking around in Ofau, little betrays a genuine tournament atmosphere outside of the peculiar Zaštisa Stadium. The home audience rather wonders whether it was worthwhile to pour their hard earned tax Denis into temporary stands for a confrontation between two minnows. Their worries on the quality of the delivered play echoes the one held in the inner echelons of the CNFA, where many are adverse to the lunge into the unknown. Pushed by the nationalist agenda of the new right-wing coalition, who wanted to improve the sense of domestic pride and unity, they were forced to subscribe. But the lack of enthusiasm with which they show up on this primo profiling space speaks lengths.

Fear arises mainly that the national selection will be weighed - and deemed unworthy, devaluing the Mobile-U Premier Division. And if some players manage to stand out, could they not be drawn to greener and more lucrative pastures? Today, the former scenario is considered more likely. Facing title holder South Newlandia and the Ancherion of star striker Mamadou Kaur later in the tournament immediately puts the pressure on the opening game. Only one man doesn't shed a drop of sweat, the national manager who had one of his Forseth-isms in store for the gathered press: "I don't pray for victory. If the others believe in the same God, it will only become a draw. So I work for the victory."

This work has been the target of quite some criticism. Anonymous sources in the group called the exercises 'infantile' or even 'insulting to our level'. And that was before the pundits tore apart the traditional 4-2-3-1, citing it as outdated even to Premier League standards. Forseth nonetheless claims it was the only system known to enough players to drill in little time but that explanation only hurt his case more. The pressure mounted on the whimsical Persson seems a high-risk gamble.

Apart from that, Forseth's once lauded man management seems to be wasted on the new generation. Especially his handling of the goalkeeper situation worries the group. Reserve Le Vallez outwardly handles it like a gentleman but without the translation from his patois, one would have sworn he said something more impactful than that he would 'support the team to his best capacities, if needed from the bench'. And so, his competitor Leuwert will have all eyes on him tonight as the Whalers face the CaRC.

Derdriu Wright went from idiot scapegoat given an impossible job to managerial megagenius in the space of a month. As is, rarely, the case, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. The fact is that Brenecia are back to having just enough quality players to be legitimately dangerous, and that Wright has shaped them into a tournament team... and that they did need two penalty shootouts to scrape into the semifinals, but even so, they still made it. That's what matters. Things are looking up!

First Team and Tactics
Image
Raised on lumpy grass pitches, waterlogged and potholed, Brenecian footballers tend to grow physical, disciplined and tough to break down, and this iteration of the national pool is no exception. Under Derdriu Wright, the Patriots are an athletic, muscular side with plenty of pace and power, but also a creative nexus in Covolan and two unpredictable, top-class wingers in Byrne and Wake who are given plenty of freedom so long as they do their work in pressing high. She likes to make use of the full squad, picking good tactical matches for each opponent rather than having a single best XI in mind.

Staff
Manager - Derdriu Wright - Age 55
Asst. Manager - Hendry Jackson - Age 50

An intelligent, well-read and softly-spoken woman, Wright likes a slightly more open style of play than her predecessors, but recognises that Brenecia's talents lie largely towards the back and will play to those strengths. She has high standards of her players and has been accused in the past of burning them out; will this translate well to international football's short stints and high turnover, or will she be unable to get her ideas across? Few expect her to revolutionise the game, but she's seen as a safe and unambitious pair of hands for the medium-term.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Cessair Meade (Image Rammsilssil) - Age 22 - Uncapped
Tall, athletic and reliable, Meade might be the pick of the slim bunch of up-and-coming Brenecian stoppers. Seeing a neverending wave of hotshot foreign goalkeepers arrive at Kingsgrove, she felt she had to leave to make a name for herself, but the club's still left its mark on her as a high-sweeping shot-stopper with excellent distribution.

12 - GK - Sorcha Tanner (Image Southern Star) - Age 29 - 38 caps, 16 clean sheets
A strong and well-balanced goalkeeper, commanding in the air and rarely erring. She's not a top-class goalkeeper, as Brenecia had become used to with Woodgate and Wright, but she's consistent.

20 - GK - Cairbre Dundalk (Image North Laithland) - Age 34 - 6 caps, 1 clean sheet
Despite being 5'8" - with all the weakness in the air that entails - Dundalk's made a name for himself as a brilliant reflex stopper who never lets errors get him down. Had a renaissance last World Cup.

Defenders
2 - RB - Esther Sidle (Image SC Montfort) - Age 25 - 7 caps, 1 goal
Lithe, long-haired and with a streak of quiet arrogance, Sidle's one of those few fullbacks who feels like they can really command the game from that withdrawn position. An expert at long diagonal balls cutting through defences, and no slouch at actually defending herself.

3 - LB - Mynah Seeler (Image Southern Star) - Age 29 - 48 caps, 2 goals
A deft, pacy fullback, Seeler's minuscule size helps her slip beneath notice as.she goes on daring runs down the flank. But she's no less diligent at the back. The kind of player who can seemingly spend ninety minutes sprinting, with the attitude to want to.

5 - CB - Athelney Shrine (Image Falourr) - Age 27 - 44 caps, 2 goals
One of Brenecia's many rock-solid defenders, Shrine's about as fast a sprinter as an actual shrine. Fortunately, her instincts rarely guide her astray, and she's an oasis of calm no matter the pressure, both in and out of possession.

6 - CB - Casey Giltanan (Image Workers Union) - Age 31 - 116 caps, 5 goals
Giltanan's mixture of composure on the ball and bloody-mindedness off it have successfully papered over occasional lapses in concentration to make her a high-class centre-half, but those lapses have prevented her from quite cresting the heights some thought her capable of. Fairly or not, she is in some ways emblematic of this era of Brenecian football, despite her stellar service.

17 - RB - Caomhin Hadley (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 22 - Uncapped
A hard-bitten, tough-tackling but above all painfully disciplined fullback. Plays with a maturity belying his years.

18 - CB - Iucharba Killen (Image North Laithland) - Age 27 - 21 caps, 4 goals
A brutish powerhouse, Killen always lumbers a little faster than people expect. Kind of like a starving crocodile. It makes him an undeniably effective defender, though he does tend to give away a lot of penalties, and probably one of these days will end up scaring a midfielder to death.

22 - LB - Nimue Culpepper (Image Rozelle) - Age 25 - 18 caps
Culpepper looks strangely weathered, a lot older than her years, and perhaps that makes sense. Her best attributes are her sense of anticipation and her intelligence, which extend her fair-but-indifferent physicality and technique as far as they can go.

24 - CB - Ruadri Wheater (Image Carsby) - Age 21 - Uncapped
Tough both physically and mentally, Wheater's an unapologetic panel-beater, but he's a bit better taking the ball forward than he gives himself credit for. The archetypal reliable Brenecian centre-half, who never misses the opportunity to stick a boot in.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Skaidrina Briggs (Image Southern Star) - Age 25 - 18 caps
A tough, taciturn midfielder who has proven reliable where called upon. Tall, powerful and strong in the tackle, Briggs has a rash, youthful physicality and a tendency to see picking up a caution as indication of a job well done. Lacks the raw NRI of Schofield, but has had markedly more consistency in a blue shirt.

8 - CM - Iseult Conway (Image Wirr Tsi) - Age 27 - 62 caps, 9 goals
Quick-witted, quick-footed, and always with a smile on her face. Conway is an unflashy but diligent box-to-box shuttler with a hint of the unpredictable, and excels at bringing the ball forward between the lines. Fouls a lot, and always seems to get away with it.

11 - AM - Lienke Covolan (Image Vermillion Rage) - Age 25 - 32 caps, 11 goals
Covolan played for Brenecia before ever setting foot in the country, but it's okay, because she's a potentially important player for the Patriots. A clever, two-footed and creative player, the rangy, arrogant, standoffish and blatantly Nepharan Covolan might be exactly what the Patriots have needed for years.

13 - AM - Consaidin Garrard (Image Farrenton Athletic) - Age 28 - 56 caps, 12 goals
Athletic and versatile, Garrard burst onto the scene early, able to hold his own against fierce pressure. He's found his place in the squad as a highly mobile danger-man with a beautifully deft first touch, but able to press aggressively to win the ball, a natural fit for Brenecia's concussive system.

19 - HM - Kurtis Mikoliunas (Image Mâ Âlâmëómë) - Age 28 - 42 caps
Mikoliunas must break you.

23 - CM - Rajmund Sitko (Image West Couno United) - Age 23 - 11 caps, 1 goal
One of the more promising of this upcoming generation of Brenecian talent, Sitko's not notably physical, but just has that quiet presence of mind and always goes looking for the ball. The kind of player analysts love and casuals don't see the point in and wonder why the team works better with him than without.

26 - DM/CM - Tamara Seager (Image FK Arsika) - Age 23 - Uncapped
A hard-working water-carrier, but with a bit of something extra about her that just elevates her above the level of so many other Brenecian players of the same archetype. She'll absolutely break a leg if needed, though.

Forwards
7 - RW - Kendra Carpenter (Image Wirr Tsi) - Age 30 - 69 caps, 18 goals
A classy, elegant winger who has worked hard for every sniff of football she's had, and will take no chance for granted. Energetic and fearless, Carpenter won't feel the weight of that number 7; the kind of player who can leave Northern Union's comfortable nest and keep going from strength to strength.

9 - ST - Siobhan Baker (Image Alnio) - Age 27 - 7 caps, 2 goals
A late bolter into the squad, Baker was playing in the Nepharan third tier for much of her career before blazing into life in Chromatika. She's the kind of player who proves that an eye for goal can translate from near any level, but tireless work ethic and excellent fitness mean she reliably gets in good positions.

10 - LW - Katua Byrne (Image KT Itzalovalle) - Age 24 - 71 caps, 26 goals
Byrne's got it all. Top-class pace, fully two-footed, even relishes defensive work pressing high. She's going to go far, and she knows it, forcing a move to Audioslavia to get away from pockmarked Brenecian pitches. The Patriots' top scorer in qualifying and very clearly, by now, the country's best attacking threat.

14 - ST - Danand Tristram (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 28 - 45 caps, 16 goals
A powerhouse up front, and a traditional target woman in a way that Brenecia haven't had since the underutilised Fox Charnwood. Tristram is the kind of relentless brawler that doesn't consider a game complete until her elbows have been in at least four faces. In a sense she's the ideal forward for the system, but she's developing a real reputation for missing the target.

15 - RW / LW - Maerhen Wake (Image 1830 Cathair) - Age 22 - 24 caps, 9 goals
A muscular powerhouse who bristles with coiled energy, menace and malice. Wake's not the best-liked in the dressing room - he's always come across a bit as the kind of man who laughs when old ladies fall over on the street - but he's a cold model professional who always looks to make an impact.

16 - LW - Sylvia Marusak (Image Juavi FC) - Age 24 - 7 caps, 3 goals
Marusak's very fast, and

21 - ST - Jadwiga Lofthouse (Image Yassaca) - Age 25 - 42 caps, 20 goals
Generally, when Union want a player, they just get one. So when a local rises through the ranks to break through, especially in a key position and at a young age, Brenecians take notice. A towering juggernaut, Lofthouse is certainly old-school but undeniably effective, and excels at helping bring others into play.

25 - ST - Mor-Rioghain Stokes (Image Mountainside) - Age 22 - Uncapped
Stokes was considered good enough that the MiCF project, a rare case of a tail wagging a dog, decided to near-bankrupt the side trying to get Stokes on the nominally male-only league. She has the air of someone mystified she isn't one of the world's best.
Puppet of Nephara.

The Football Fallacies
with The Man from Markovsky

YOU KNOW THINGS ARE BAD WHEN THE GOVERNOR GENERAL GIVES YOU AN ULTIMATUM TO WIN A TOURNAMENT

Hello and welcome to The Football Fallacies. Right, so it’s time once again for yet another Campionato Esportiva, and since I have now become irrevocably attached to this bunch of teachers, architects, and bank managers moonlighting as football players in their spare time (well, most of them anyway; they’ve finally got some actual professionals in the team this time around), I have given myself the task of following this tournament and the Fhulghamousian national football team for the entirety of the 33rd Campionato Esportiva. It’s not an enviable task, I’ll tell you that much. Whoever decides to willingly follow the Fhulghamous Peninsula national football team has definitely got to be out of their minds, and after so many years of me following the Fleftic national football team and Ludogorets Markovsky, I think I already qualify for such a classification. Nobody in their right minds would willingly follow three such teams, and yet here we are.

But you know who might not be here in the immediate future? Antonis Papadimitriou. No, I don’t mean that in the sense that he’s no longer going to be with us in the land of the living after a few more weeks. What I mean is that Antonis has been given one more chance to bring the Campionato to Port Thimpodopoulos, and then if he fails at that, he’s no longer going to be the manager of the Colonists. But is it really that surprising though? Antonis Papadimitriou was brought in to stabilize the Fhulghamousians’ ship after a very embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Brenecia in the 28th Campionato. He decided to start with a clean slate and called up only players who were playing in the Peninsula’s only very slightly semi-pro league system, and to the surprise of everyone (including me, I’ll admit), the bastard actually managed to take those semi-pro and amateur bastards all the way to the semifinals! Sure, they eventually got beaten by the eventual champions Nova Anglicana, but still! We are talking about a bunch of players who don’t play football full-time, and actually have other jobs that they do the rest of the week! How those guys managed to convince their employers that they were actually getting called up for a national football team and not just saying that to get out of a whole month’s worth of work, I will probably never know. But those guys probably did manage to get the next month off because they managed to bring home the bronze after beating the very same team that humiliated them just two years prior. But since then, Antonis has been trying and failing to recapture that magic formula, and now Governor General Petrarchos Kulbano’s patience has worn thin. AP has been handed an ultimatum by the GovGen: win the Campionato, or you’re no longer managing this team going forward. It’s not quite the sword of Damocles hanging over the manager of the Fhulghamous Peninsula, but the consequences of failure have been clearly spelled out, and he knows that he should have a job lined up just to be sure.

Now let’s move on to the teams that the Peninsula actually have to play before they could even start entertaining thoughts of challenging for the Campionato. The Colonists have been drawn into Group E alongside the Licentian Isles, Ha’Yarok, and Quebecois Acadiana. Such an eclectic collection of nations, if I do say so myself. Obviously the Licentians are the biggest threats in this group, and if we’re only going by rankings here, them and the Fhulghamous are going to be the guys fighting for the top of the group. But we all know that teams with Fleftic heritage (and the Fhulghamous Peninsula definitely counts as such) usually don’t get to fight for the group win when they’re expected to do so, and when they actually do it, it’s usually a quick and painful exit in either the round of 16 or the quarterfinals or even the round of 32, which probably doesn’t exist for this particular Campionato given that we already have 32 entrants at the moment, but you know what I mean. Anyway, the Colonists are playing against Ha’Yarok first, then it’s the Quebecois’ turn before they finally end their group stage campaign against the Licentians, a match which Antonis Papadimitriou and company will expect to be for the lead of Group E. But things might end up changing, either for better or for worse, over the course of the next few days so nothing really is guaranteed up to that point. Maybe both the Fhulghamous and the Licentians will do poorly and their game on matchday three will be for not winning the wooden spoon. Let’s hope that it doesn’t come to that, yeah? But knowing the luck of Abanhfleft and the Fhulghamous, that might just be exactly what they’re going to fight for in the near future. But let’s not think about that. Let’s think positive this time around, yeah? Can’t be any worse than always focusing on the negatives.

Anyway, that's all there is for me. If you've got any predictions against Ha'Yarok or the Campionato itself then feel free to leave them down below. Until then, I've been the Man from Markovsky, getting that sinking feeling that I'm about to be disappointed by a bastard fucking colony's football team yet again.
