World Baseball Classic wrote:WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 55 Signups!

This is the signup thread for World Baseball Classic 55. If you have done this before, or have done other major competitions on NS Sports before but not the World Baseball Classic before, you know what you need to do for now. If this is your first time, then let me first welcome you to the competition. Right now, all you need to do is declare that your nation signs up, and then keep an eye on this thread as the sign up process progresses.
Users that have previously participated in a WBC are allowed to sign up a secondary nation (puppet). This puppet has to be declared by both the puppet and primary nation of the user (master).
The process will eventually lead to a host vote, and once we have a host, that nation will put out a schedule and lead us through the competition.

In order to be considered as a host, you must submit a bid. On NS Sports, the host is responsible for the day to day running of the tournament, which includes being able to reliably scorinate the competition. The World Baseball Classic is typically the second most roleplayed competition on the entire forum, behind the World Cup. Therefore, it is typically a competition that requires an experienced host. There are great competitions out there for first time hosts to get their feet wet, but like the World Cup, the World Baseball Classic is not really one of them, unless jointly bidding with an experienced partner. Having said that, there are no restrictions on a first time host submitting a bid.

Recent winning bids:
Winning WBC 54 bid (Zwangzug)
Winning WBC 53 bid (Banija)
Winning WBC 52 bid (Chromatika)
Winning WBC 51 bid (South Newlandia & Tikariot)
Winning WBC 50 bid (Cassadaigua)
Winning WBC 49 bid (Newmanistan)
Winning WBC 48 bid (Drawkland)

A valid WBC bid must include, at the absolute minimum, how you plan on structuring the tournament and the method of scorination. If it does not, at minimum, include that, it will not be considered for voting.

Voting on WBC host bids is done by members of the World Baseball Classic Council. The members of the council can be found by using the applicable link in the signature of this account. You can also find the current ranks there.

HOST BID DEADLINE: Thursday, July 21st, at 8 pm UTC.

Projected Timeline: The host vote will be from July 21st to July 26th. So, look for an Everything Thread in early August if things go smoothly.

This post also is considered the signup for South Newlandia. If you want to play too, whether its your first time or you have done this many times, sign up now!

Thank you for the vote of confidence everyone! I am hoping to get the Everything thread up tonight, or perhaps tomorrow.

I have been informed that we currently sit at exactly 48 signups for the WBC. As such, I am going to tentatively CLOSE signups. Any signup beyond this point should be considered waitlisted. However, with the possibility that there could be several days before the group draw occurs, there may be space for more nations. We will see. The next number I'd be willing to entertain would be 54, as I'm aiming for groups of six.

With the IC thread, there will be a list of all the available stadiums for teams to use in this tournament. More details will be given on the thread itself, but essentially any signed up nation will be able to telegram or DM me with their preferred venue(s) prior to the draw. There's no guarantee that anybody will get a stadium they requested, but I will do my best to make everybody happy.

I will make another post when the Everything thread is live, whether that's today, tomorrow, or later. I will be aiming for MD1 being at some point next week. See you all soon!

Apologies for the delay, but WBC 55 is open! Thread link here. Group draw and venue assignments will be done on Wednesday. First cutoff (matchdays 1 and 2) will be on Sunday. Please take note of the venue list and send me your preference if you wish ... and at least glance at the stadium list even if you don't think you'd have a preference. Maybe one will catch your eye. :)

Signups wise, it looks like we're rolling with 48. Sevendia's withdrawal gets Liventia into the tournament. KTHC is unfortunately on the outside looking in. If we have another withdrawal (or somehow seven more signups in the next two days), then the field remains as the 48 currently listed on the everything thread OP.

I am confused. The OP states that the home team is listed second. On MDs 1 & 2, team 4's games were

4@3
4@6

Yet I (and, I'm sure, all other team 4s) played both games at home.

It appears that I misread the fixture generator. All the listed fixtures should be reversed.

EDIT: I have reversed the fixtures in the OP. They should be correct now. Also, roster links post MD1 have been added to the group listings as well.

Crossposted from Everything thread for greater visibility. This event is happening in two days, so if you want to highlight a player for inclusion on the All-Star roster, do it soon!

...

Hello WBC fans!

In the break between the end of the group stage and the beginning of the playoffs, there will be an All-Star Game and Home Run Derby event. This will serve as a laid-back experience to give playoff nation players a chance to relax before the playoff gauntlet. It will also serve as a celebratory experience for those who will be going home after the group stage. Everybody has a chance to watch the best in the multiverse play and show their skills! Surrounding the actual game will be other fun fan events, meet-and-greets, the Derby, and more.

The festivities will be held at Seven Stars Stadium, so that everybody can get a chance to visit the stadium, even if their favored team doesn't make it to the championship. Of course, fans of eliminated teams are welcome to stay in Drawkland and enjoy more baseball or tourist spots, though we understand if you just want to pack up and go home. Be sure to book your tickets now, because the seats will fill up fast!

On the "break day" between MD19/20 scorination and the first games of the Round of 24, I will be posting the All-Star event post instead of my usual scores. It will probably be at night, like my cutoffs have been. It will feature the All-Star Roster reveal, a Home Run Derby, and then a scorinated All-Star game. I may also choose the scorers/pitchers of the All-Star game based on the rosters, if I can pull that off fairly.

There will be two All-Star rosters, based on geographical positions of the groups. The Northern All-Stars will be selected from Groups A-D, and the Southern All-Stars will be selected from Groups E-H. I will construct a 26-man (or woman) roster based on the best or most notable players from each nation in those groups. As there are 24 nations in each half, there will be at least 1 player from every rostered nation. Unrostered nations will obviously not have a player included. Rostered but non-RP'd nations may receive a selection, or they may not. Regardless, there will be a few players from repeat nations.

The selection process will be vibe-based. Players whose names I've noticed a lot in RP's will definitely have the edge in selection. If you want a specific player of yours to make the roster, be sure to talk them up or bold their name in an RP posted before I start making the All-Star rosters on Wednesday (a bit before normal cutoff time). Obviously the better-performing and/or well-RP'd nations will be more likely to land multiple players on a roster.

The Home Run Derby will be scorinated with a hastily-modified file. I will attempt to make a workable formula by the time the All-Star post is being written, and give it a try. No promises on the results being sensical, but it's just a small bonus event. QoD has been looking at perhaps editing one of xkoranate's Shooting files, so that's where I'll start first. 12 players will be invited, 6 from each All-Star roster. The selection process will be All-Star players who have been notable sluggers for their team, based on RP or roster notes. In the actual scorination, the player's skill will be equal to their home nation's total cumulative RP bonus to that point.

The Derby format will be sort of a mix between the older and newer formats the MLB has used for the RL HRD. Players will be given three minutes to hit as many home runs as possible, regardless of swings and misses, fouls, short flies, or grounders. Like the MLB, a player will receive an additional 30 seconds of bonus time, and another 30 seconds if they hit at least two home runs over 440 feet. The actual format, however, will not be a bracket. It will be an old-school pool of players, all 12 will bat in the first round. The bottom two performers from each All-Star roster will be removed for the next round. The second round, with 8 players, eliminates the bottom half regardless of which side they're from. The remaining four players will be seeded based on their cumulative homer totals, and placed into a single-elimination head-to-head semifinal bracket. Each matchup's winner will face in the championship for the WBC 55 Home Run Derby crown.

The actual All-Star game will be scorinated in the Snelweg formula like everything else this tournament. The skills will be based on the cumulative RP bonus of all the teams in the respective groups. Even though it's not "real" results, this day will be treated as its own cutoff day for RP bonus purposes.
