RMP athlete profile: Isabel Mesquita

Verlois, Gaullica: Today RMP met with the gold medalist athlete commonly called "Paretia's greatest swimmer", Isabel Mesquita.

From the Luzelese city of Damaboa. She was born into a family who loved the beach and loved to swim. We asked her about her passion of swimming.

“It’s a wonderful feeling, it’s like being in space, you float across water like you’re in space. My father is who taught me to swim and he is the proudest father in the world I’ll tell you now. He was always there to help me when I lost, there to cheer for me when I won. I would give up this Invictus trip and go to the beach with him.”

She was brought into the Invictus world when she won her first silver medal at the 2014 Gatôn Invictus Games. She then would win her next, her first gold medal at the 2018 Spálgleann games.

“It was an amazing feeling to win my first medal in 2014, it was just beautiful to see how proud my parents were. To be able to bight down on that medal was something I’ll never forget. Then when I won that gold medal in 2018, It was like nothing I’d ever felt in my entire life. That gold medal still hangs on my door, when I bit down on that one, it was the most exciting feeling I’ve ever felt.”

Now at her third Invictus games, she seeks to stack upon her accomplishments and win gold again just like before and break her best score.

“I love Verlois. I plan on going to Gaullican beaches afterwards. I really want to win this year. I want to make my father proud once more, I’ve trained again and again for this moment and I think I’m ready.”

She plans on winning this year, she will be competing in multiple swimming events for Paretia in the Invictus Games.

Other swimmers are also competing for Paretia including Ronaldo Sotirianes and Maria Teresa Gama, she says she wishes luck for all of those who are competing for the great country of Paretia.
