The Freisan Farf Freitball Francitian hereby presents the Farf roster for the 91st Edition of the World CupPlurinational Entity Name: The Oulandish Lands of Farfadillis
Demonym: Farf (plural Farves)
Team Nickname: La Vherderoja
Honours: World Cup 84 and AOCAF Cups 43, 48 and 57 Winners
STAFF
MANAGER: Lele Manguele - Age 43Silver-tongued Lele Manguele should not be here. His past is shrouded in mystery: for all we know, he was a run-of-the-mill Farf until he turned up to a Royal Rumiatzi interview one day, uninvited, and convinced them to hire him as manager. He bedazzled fans and neutrals alike with his gung-ho attacking style but eventually got sacked because he couldn't win the league to save his life. He
did break the league record for most goals scored in the process, however, and nobody thinks of his stint there as a failure. He then convinced the FFFF to send a squad to the Di Bradini Cup after about two decades, and then took over as manager there. The team performed dreadfully, but Alex Terán, the FFFF's president, liked Manguele's initiative and style of play enough to hand the senior team over to him for World Cup 89. He's even been given full control, no questions asked. His first cycle was a moderate success overall, mostly owing to the FFFF's low expectations. With a penchant for the bizarre, even by Farf standards, Manguele is sure to, at least, confuse.
ASSISTANT MANAGER: Gylfi Haukason — Age 59Famously bad at winning, Gylfi Haukason nonetheless has a lot of experience at the top level, having managed Savojar sides to third-place finishes consistently in the SFS, as well as the Savojar national team. The less said about that last job of his, the better. His role is to play the sane man to Manguele's insane man, provide some actual tactical know-how and be the target of frequent derision from Manguele himself.
CHIEF SCOUT: Lele Manguele — Age 43He likes to work overtime, ok?
TEAM MEDIC: Lele Manguele — Age 43He is not a licensed physician, but that is not going to stop him.
PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER: Lele Manguele - Age 43For better or worse.
STARTERS
#1 — Rogerio Defigueroa — aGKa — Age 25 — Mâ Âlâmëómë —
Rogerio first burst onto the scene after three or four of Avenida Leal's goalkeepers hit a very rough patch of form at the same time. Aged just seventeen, he impressed, and had since mostly failed to live up to the expectations he set then... until last AOCAF Cup, when he truly shone as Farfadillis made a somewhat unlikely run to the final. He... did not impress nearly as much in the final itself, as Farfadillis got thrashed 5-2. He's tall and has great reflexes, and is not half bad at timing his runs to come out of the box.
#6 — Tipi Izotzubia — aLBa — Age 21 — Rülândéá Kôstä —
Tipi Izotzubia is one of many suspiciously Rulandese-seeming Astograthians to have signed for Rülândéá Kôstä, a club that is looking likely to vow to sign every Astograthian in existence any day now. He got called up for the Astograthian national team, but a small legal kerfuffle in which he was accused of being Rulandese, not Astograthian, sort of forced him to switch allegiances. He's much more at home at
la Vherderoja; he's even speaking to teammates! This is something he never did with his fellow Astograthians for whatever reason. On the pitch, he's a hulking but nonetheless fast player with
some flair, but not as much as you'd expect from a starting Farfadillis NT fullback. Still, he's a machine, and nobody following the S-FPL will begrudge Manguele for pouncing on the opportunity to call him up.
#2 — Ecésar der Efer — aCBa — Age 30 — Ausharmuj Marusi —
Accidentally discovered by the FFFF during the Eagle's Cup, der Efer was a fully amateur player for surprisingly long, before signing for S-FPL club Ausharmuj Marusi. He's recently gone from a dependable but unremarkable centerback to a dependable and remarkable centerback. He almost never sets a foot wrong and has plenty of experience against top-tier opposition. However, he's completely inept on the ball and not nearly as physically imposing as some of his competition. Still, his recent form coupled with the lack of decent options for centerback make him a starter.
#4 — Têrçêr Ànáxímane — aRBa — Age 31 — Sabrefell Moths —
Very pacey, with great technique and defensively somewhat okay. However, what he lacks in tactical genius and good positioning, he makes up for by being a huge fucking asshole. On the pitch, he's very good at getting away with
just enough to avoid being sent off. Off the pitch, he's a big bully (just ask Marajis). He doesn't crumble under pressure and scores surprisingly often for a fullback. He's also got plenty of experience at the highest level, as he was a key piece of a two-time S-FPL-winning Dí Maozöxê team, and now has a couple seasons in the Zenith under his belt too. Expect to see him flying up and down the pitch relentlessly with Manguele's in charge, as he will want to fully exploit his offensive capabilities.
#3 — Ígnîgo Çí Xôrí — aCMa — Age 32 — Mâ Âlâmëómë —
Currently the best Farf player, hands down. He's got astonishing technique, fantastic vision, high endurance and is quite decent defensively to boot: almost the ideal box-to-box midfielder. Historically, he has been inconsistent, however, which has proven frustrating for fans (both at national and international level). When he's on one of his good days, though, he is completely unplayable, and as of late most of his days are good days. He's capable of single-handedly grabbing a game by the throat purely by utterly dominating in midfield. His performances in the AOCAF Cup were good enough to make any Farf dream of winning the World Cup once again.
#5 — Eslejes Aljojí — aCMa — Age 34 — Ausharmuj Marusi —
Another player who started off as an amateur before the Eagle's Cup changed his life forever, Eslejes has been a dependable, boring midfielder for Ausharmuj Marusi for the longest time. He's the quintessential box-to-box midfielder and seems to be in top shape despite having just turned thirty-four. No PEDs involved, rather surprisingly. In fact, he's only been getting better, and is nowadays an undisputed starter, not least because he appears to be quite clutch. A serviceable player who many Farves lament did not reach his peak sooner.
#10 — Edmün Çídh — aOMa — Age 33 — Raynor City United —
A very complete player. Fast, good at dribbling, good at playmaking and good at finishing. The complete package. So much so, that Manguele has decided to irritate him by playing him as an attacking midfielder, instead of his preferred position as an out-and-out striker. The change of positions has really suited him, so he's done throwing tantrums over it. Unsurprisinhly, he is reportedly not a great influence off the pitch, and allegedly has a very cold relationship with his brother, the more hardworking but considerably less talented Röémün Çídh. Reining in his ego will be an important part of making this a good cycle.
#11 — Tôsgo Alxíkí — aLWa — Age 30 — Revolutionaries —
As usual,
la Vherderoja features many astonishingly fast players. Tôsgo might be the fastest among them. He has great technique, a good shot and fantastic dribbling—coupled with an “indomitable will” if you're into cringe descriptions—all of which make him one of the best players in the squad. However, one can't help but feel like he just hasn't lived up to his potential: many genuinely thought he could become as good as, say, Wínrôuge or Dandalleion. Not a big problem, though: he is still World Class, and he will still be causing problems to pretty much any defense he faces, at least as long as he gets good service. If anyone on the team is going to create that “spark” needed to break the lock in a very even game, chances are it will be... ok, probably Çí Xôrí, possibly Çídh, but there's also a decent chance it will be Alxíkí.
#8 — Eötrenois Rigozsoldos — aRWa — Age 23 — René Skaé —
Scarily clinical, devilishly fast and very technical. At twenty-three, he looks like he'll be leading the line for many years to come... but first he'll have to content himself with a starting spot as a right winger, as opposed to his preferred position, striker. For all his talent, he's not quite good enough to force the Çídh and Çêwé off the starting eleven. Manguele, for the time being, seems mostly interested in making him more versatile; specifically, he seems to want to teach him to play as an inside forward. It's hard to fault him: Eötrenois definitely has the skillset for it, as the AOCAF Cup in Jabal Akhdar made very clear.
#7 — Röémün Çídh — aSTa — Age 31 — AC Izotz Zubia —
The less-talented-but-slightly-taller-and-stronger-and-that's-gotta-count-for-something version of his older brother Edmün, Röémün is a very hard-working player who you'd be forgiven for thinking is not Farf at all based on his personality. His great poaching skills actually had him outscoring his more talented brother for a good bit. He can be quite wasteful, but nonetheless seems to always carve out some chances for himself when no other player can. Having been relegated to the bench by Manguele, he gambled and moved to Izotz Zubia despite knowing he'd only get rotated into the squad. There, he performed well enough to force Manguele's hand and make him a starter again, moving his brother Edmün out of position, which we can only imagine left him immensely satisfied.
#9 — Vâásk Çêwé — aSTa — Age 27 — CA Paulinthal —
A true journeyman, Vâásk has played for, like, three or four different teams, which is a lot in this Multiverse. Nowadays, he's going through a purple patch of sorts, having won the Jade Boot (top goalscorer award in Nephara's second-tier, for the casuals), arguably dragging his team kicking and screaming into the Zenith, before having a good season in the Zenith itself, getting himself a move to Pasargan giants CA Paulinthal, where he hit the ground running by grabbing himself a Golden Boot. There
are better Farf strikers out there that Manguele could be calling up, but Çêwé brings to the table things that other strikers don't: grit, slyness and nudes of Lele Manguele that he uses as blackmail. Supposedly, those nudes are not threatening enough to make him a starter, but Vâásk's recent form did the rest.
SUBSTITUTES
#12 — Dieje Ibrelaná — aGKa — Age 34 — Urbizania Wanderers —
Ibrelaná is pretty good. Not super good, sure, and not quite at the level of Farfadillis' past goalkeepers. He's acrobatic and his positioning is good. Yes, he can be shaky when playing as a sweeper-keeper which is—perhaps—not ideal for a Farf goalkeeper. Defigueroa has finally managed to usurp him of his starting point, but watch out for any blunders from the Faroleran because Manguele will not hesitate to hand back the starting spot to a fellow Ferdullaelan.
#23 — Lís Âllásí — aGKa — Age 28 — Lonngeylin Coast —
Another one of those players that popped out of nowhere. Âllásí, at best, rang a bell to some obsessed Farf football fan when he started putting in decent performances for Lonngeylin Coast. There's a dearth of goalkeepers so, in that context, it's impossible to pass up on one who is starting for a V-League team. Lís has a knack for unpredictability, which is a decidedly bad trait for a goalkeeper, but he makes up for it with great reflexes and great speed to come out of his line. If Defigueroa slips up, Lís is sure to usurp him of the starting spot as soon as Ibrelaná is removed from the equation.
#13 — Agapeto Chayra — aLBa — Age 24 — La Nueva Avenida —
Occasionally, a tidy, not overly attack-oriented fullback will be promoted to the senior squad in some Farf team and then proceed to have a good season despite having minus infinity name recognition. Agapeto's one such player. He's not Manguele's type, but Farfadillis really lacks left-backs at the moment (Exihosahar's injury did not help) and the kid is undeniably talented. Plus, he's been going from strength to strength domestically. Too bad an Astograthian snatched the starting spot from him at the last possible moment.
#14 — Vyacheslav Khavarin — aCBa — Age 31 — La Nueva Avenida —
Vyacheslav is, in fact, Savojar. Through and through. Born and raised in Savojarna, signed for La Nueva Avenida aged twenty-one. He had quite a lot of trouble picking up the language, though by now he can speak it (with a very, very thick accent). He has never identified as Faroleran, Farf or anything like that. However, since the Farfadillis national team does not strictly represent any national entity, eligibility is very easy to attain: just ask. Since there's a terrible dearth of good centerbacks at the moment, and Khavarin didn't look likely to get a call-up from his country of birth, Manguele got to business and convinced him to wear red and black instead. What does the Savojar have going for him? Well, he's massive. Like, almost two meters tall. He can also defend.
#15 — Kolejes Marajis — aRBa — Age 33 — Gortz United —
“But mister, I'm a winger!” Kolejes cried (while also crying) when informed by Manguele that he would be played out of position throughout the entirety of cycle eighty-nine. Two years later, things hadn't changed, and four years later... things still haven't changed. Kolejes is a fast, slippery, technical and somewhat selfish winger who's actually quite good at crosses when he can bother to attempt them instead of trying to dribble his way into the box. Manguele is very insistently trying to retool him into a fullback, with defensive responsibilities and all. He also wants him to attempt a
lot of crosses. Kolejes is dreading this, but he can't really complain: he's too chicken shit for that, and is quickly garnering a reputation for it, too, most recently because he turned down Spartangrad, Crisisbless and Mâ Âlâmëómë because his girlfriend told him too.In Astograth, his reputation precedes him, and he's arguably better than Rigozoldos, who is being played out of position by being played
in Marajis' natural position. Anyway, not being a pushover pays off, kids.
#16 — Mbogo Nørgaard — aCMa — Age 27 — Revolutionaries —
Half-Banijan, half-Fröndti, Mbogo's undoubtedly very talented. He's got a gifted physique and good playmaking skills. Bit of an all-rounder, but not quite a specialist at anything. Whenever he's subbed in, he'll be expected to provide balance in midfield (that is to say, defend!), while Çí Xôrí will be freer to do his own thing. Still, don't be surprised if you see him marauding up the pitch out of nowhere, since it's exactly the kind of thing Manguele will be asking him to do every now and then. He's fast and he's technical, and he's got a pretty mean long-range shot, so he could surprise more than one team. Should be hitting his prime any time now, so will probably be desperate to get his spot back from Aljojí.
#17 — Fujanej Moloses — aCMa — Age 28 — Turoki Tide —
Tall-ish, strong-ish and with seemingly endless stamina, Fujanej makes for a great box-to-box midfielder with some extra grit. He is somewhat lacking in raw technical prowess when compared to some of his teammates, but his strengths more than make up for it. Admittedly, he'll have a terrible time trying to break into the team, since he's got a ton of better competition, but he'll have to make do.
#18 — Tè Xüwân — aTKa — Age 22 — Rülândéá Kôstä —
The kid's been trained by Rülândéá Kôstä to be a takilante since he was fifteen. He's tireless, he's got great dribbling skills, and he's great at smelling out chances to score. With no other (good) takilante in sight (Jáánsêlà is still way too green, after all), expect Tè to get a decent amount of playing time if the situation calls for one. If he does get subbed in, yellow and red cards are very, very much not out of the question, so Manguele would be taking that into account if he cared about that kind of thing at all.
#19 — Yonatoño de la Garza — aLWa — Age 21 — Antiguoko FC —
It takes someone special to come through La Querida's youth system and somehow still manage to be a decent player. Yonatoño has managed just that, all the while being lauded as the most compassionate, friendly, admirable, gullible and dumb person you could ever meet. He's very fast and he's a good crosser of the ball. A
very good crosser of the ball, and Manguele is a sucker for that. He can be very one-dimensional, and he doesn't look like he could grow into a higher-dimensional player, but sometimes one dimension is enough. Especially if you're a winger and your manager is Lele Manguele.
#22 — Emiliano Gallegas — aLWa — Age 32 — Energija Chernovets —
A winger with insane pace and a lot of attitude as well as, uh, an ongoing sharp decline in his abilities. Nonetheless, his pace alone still makes him hard to control, and he's still got the nerves of steel needed for the important matches. He's got a very direct style—both on and off the pitch—so expect him to cause trouble to any slow defenders or unprepared journalists. He'll be desperate to claw his way back into the eleven, especially with only a couple more years as an insanely pacey winger left now that he's thirty-two.
#20 — Çè Quîrîjá — aSTa — Age 31 — Gunzlach —
Quîrîjá is a very fast striker with lethal finishing. He is also simultaneously one of the most beloved and reviled players in the Græntfjaller league, owing to his very, very backstabby move from Steinaux to Gunzlach. Manguele likes a striker with personality, and Quîrîjá is evidently able to provide that, especially when you consider that he technically was a part of the revolutionary movement that took control of Rülândéá when he started out at Lâ Lüs. Another reason for his call-up is that he's much more familiar with host nation Græntfjall than the other members of the team. That's not actually relevant in the slightest, but Manguele hasn't figured that out yet.
#21 — Horacio Bastanchury — aSTa — Age 29 — La Nueva Avenida —
Farf players are like cockroaches in that they can pop up anywhere, so it was no surprise when some nineteen-year-old started banging them in in Siovanija and Teusland for some middling club. He's now signed for La Nueva Avenida and has been scoring relentlessly. He's fast and good at finishing. It's a simple, but very effective combination. Bastanchury's a nice lad, though, so he'll do his best to respectfully leave his mark in what could be his last cycle with the national team, if Manguele continues to give him the cold shoulder for no apparent reason.
