Thanks to Qasden for the logo!

All* are welcome to the Desert Emirate of Jabal Akhdar for the 66th AOCAF Cup!

OOC info

The group draw will take place once the rankings have been posted. At this stage, signups are provisionally closed and the only additional signups processed will be to replace last minute pullouts. The tournament will have a standard format of 8×4 single round robin group stages, with the top two from each group going to an unseeded (i.e., A1vH2, B1vG2, etc.) single elimination playoff bracket.

Cutoffs will be every 48 hours. Most entrants have played in NS Sport tournaments before; those who have not are encouraged to read the guide to sports roleplaying or check out some previous tournaments for how things are generally done.

Please post a roster, even if you don't intend on RPing; it's a massive help to those who do want to. Teams with AOCAF ranks will only play with 50% of their ranking points until they post a roster, after which their full rank will be restored.

RP bonus is 50% cumulative, 50% decaying. Hopefully this balances an incentive to RP regularly with some respite for those who can't.

The group draw has been conducted. Jabal Akhdar would be seeded 17 but were automatically drawn first as hosts.

IC info

The Desert Emirate of Jabal Akhdar is a small Islamic absolute monarchy on the edge of the Great Calanian Desert. While the vast majority of the country is virtually uninhabitable desert, the majority of the population is clustered around a series of cities along the coast, principally in the capital – the imaginatively named Jabal Akhdar City. The oil-rich Emirate practises Hanbali Sunni Islam; its economy has boomed as a result of natural resources exploitation, and it is in the process of building a series of modern “cities of tomorrow”. Around half of all games and the majority of the playoffs will be held in Jabal Akhdar City, with the remainder scattered around the country in various cities.

Stadiums

Al-Jasab International Stadium (cap. 64,000)
Al-Jasab is one of the new cities of tomorrow being built by the Emirate. It has a planned population of over three quarters of a million people, but only 25,000 of those will be permanent Akhdari residents, with the rest being international tourists, commuters, and transient workers brought in to staff the gleaming skyscrapers -- but unable to afford rent in the marina-based paradise, which features artificial beachfronts. At the time of the tournament, Al-Jasab is still unfinished and en route to the state of the art stadium, cranes and pulleys, rows of heavy vehicles, and armies of more-or-less forced laborers will be seen thronging the radial concourses of the city center.
MD1: Pacitalia v Efnakia (morning), Pluvia & the Saxean Isles v Qasden (evening)
MD2: Geisenfried v Farfadillis (afternoon), Jabal Akhdar v Mlima Kijani (night)
MD3: Banija v Gyatso-kai (afternoon), Vilita & Turori v Squornshelan Remnant States (evening)

Al-Bareqbah Stadium, Uqaidr (cap. 33,000
In contrast to some of the new cities being featured in this tournament, Uqaidr is one of Jabal Akhdar's most ancient cities. It was built on the spice trade in the Middle Ages and became an important stop on the so-called Cinnamon Route for merchant traders. Today, it's all about oil. The most northerly Akhdari city being featured in this tournament and thus the coolest (though that doesn't say much). The city is home to much ancient Islamic architecture, but its conservative population aren't overly welcoming of tourists so perhaps skip the guidebook tour and instead stay safe in the hotel.
MD1: Kimi-Suomi v Ugrua (morning), Schima Bas v Sarzonia (evening)
MD2: Efnakia v Baker Park (afternoon), Verceola v Busoga Islands (night)
MD3: Equestria v Romsten (afternoon), Crystal Empire v Milchama (evening)

Al-Qunfuzah Stadium, Jabal Akhdar City (cap. 33,000)
Al-Qunfuzah Stadium is a modular stadium that has been specially constructed for this tournament -- and which will be deconstructed after its conclusion. It's a 100% "eco-sustainable" stadium intended to serve as a model for similar projects. That the pipelines of oil and gas refineries are smoking away in the background just a few km from it does perhaps from the effect, however. The Taimiyya neighborhood of Jabal Akhdar City is heavily industrial, and that industry is built on the decidedly non eco-sustainable resources of oil and natural gas. The stadium does not allow cars and all visitors must arrive by shuttle bus.
MD1: Oontaz Dert Li Ng v Romsten (afternoon), Verceola v Geisenfried (evening)
MD2: Gyatso-kai v The Cordian Isles (morning), Pacitalia v Tropicorp (evening)
MD3: Mlima Kijani v North Handoria (afternoon), Fort McKinley v Sarzonia (night)

Hofusha Stadium, Jabal Akhdar City (cap. 48,000)
Hofusha is a new city-within-a-city, an entirely planned neighborhood built on reclaimed salt marshes. The ancient inhabitants of the marshes saw the city sprawl of Jabal Akhdar grow, encroach on their ancestral hunting lands, and finally swallow them whole. They have been displaced to live in rented porta-cabins, and on the swampy grounds where their families have lived for generations, a grid-pattern city of 70,000 planted. The Hofusha Stadium is a grim concrete brick that perfectly reflects in its brutalism the general attitude surrounding its construction, but despite its lack of architectural charms, its size and retractable roof means it will host many games.
MD1: Tropicorp v Baker Park (afternoon), Mlima Kijani v Demot (evening)
MD2: Romsten v Valanora (morning), Qasden v Ugrua (evening)
MD3: Busoga Islands v Geisenfried (morning), Delaclava v The Cordian Isles (night)

Haiyyil Iconic Stadium, Haiyyil (cap. 65,000)
Haiyyil is another entirely new planned city. It could be considered an extended suburb of Jabal Akhdar City, but has been granted its municipal independence. Wide, open plan streets, a radial harbor structure, a massive artificial lagoon, and the Eagle Building, a huge glass complex that resembles a bird from the sky, are some of its features. A bustling native population is not among its features: it's basically deserted at present as the workers who built it can't afford to live there. For them, you'll have to travel to the Riyaqbah slums, sprawling shanty towns on the city's outskirts. But, and I can't emphasize this enough, don't.
MD1: Fort McKinley v Hapilopper (afternoon), Busoga Islands v Farfadillis (evening)
MD2: Milchama v Squornshelan Remnant States (afternoon), Delaclava v Banija (night)
MD3: Tropicorp v Efnakia (morning), Jabal Akhdar v Demot (evening)

Sulaimaan el-Majeed Stadium, Jeddaynah (cap. 49,000)
The only stadium not on the coastline, and thus the site of by far the hottest temperatures. Jeddaynah is an intimidating ancient city, the gateway to the desert. Romantic notions about seeing off camel trains and visiting the ancient shrines soon give way to the realities of a hostile climate where non-natives can barely step outside during the day -- and dare not at night, lest they fall foul of the roving Morality Police. The stadium itself is a surprisingly modern and well-appointed construction, which explains why it's hosting games despite the city itself not being a natural destination for foreign visitors.
MD1: Vilita & Turori v Milchama (morning), Equestria v Valanora (evening)
MD2: Sarzonia v Hapilopper (afternoon), North Handoria v Demot (night)
MD3: Verceola v Farfadillis (afternoon), Kimi-Suomi v Qasden (evening)

Emir Abdul Hakeem al-Masri Stadium a.k.a. "The National Stadium", Jabal Akhdar City (cap. 62,000)
The National Stadium has seen better days despite its preeminent rank and laudable namesake. The construction of new "cities of tomorrow" has left this rather ramshackle pile behind. One of its difficult qualities is that unlike most of the new stadiums, it has no roof, exposing players to the harsh open sun. It's also in the heart of Jabal Akhdar City, banked on one side by the ancient bazaar, and another by the Al Jarmah neighborhood, the home of the most intense religious fervor. The Thunomah river flows just past it, and regular commercial freight traffic from LNG tankers to cargo haulers to the occasional tiny fishing rig will sail past every few minutes.
MD1: Jabal Akdhar v North Handoria (morning), Delaclava v Gyatso-kai (evening)
MD2: Oontaz Dert Li Ng v Equestria (morning), Vilita & Turori v Crystal Empire (night)
MD3: Pluvia & the Saxean Isles v Ugrua (afternoon), Schima Bas v Hapilopper (evening)

Al Naloj Stadium, Al-Kiqban (cap. 55,000)
[i]Three decades ago, Al-Kiqban was a tiny hamlet chiefly known for its ancient Shi'ite mosque. Today, the mosque has been blown to smithereens and a city of half a million people sprawls over lands once mainly populated by goat herders and crab fishers. This "city of tomorrow" is built on Jabal Akhdar's southern coast. Blistering heat and choking humidity can be expected, although the stadium itself features an innovative internal air conditioning system designed to make conditions (just about) playable. But the system will only be run during matches, leaving opportunities for training extremely limited.
MD1: Crystal Empire v Squornshelan Remnant States (afternoon), Banija v The Cordian Isles (night)
MD2: Schima Bas v Fort McKinley (morning), Pluvia & the Saxean Isles v Kimi-Suomi (evening)
MD3: Oontaz Dert Li Ng v Valanora (afternoon), Pacitalia v Baker Park (evening)

Manager
Didrik Gjedrem
Age: 56
While the Marauders had a disappointing and early end to their run in the World Cup, Didrik's worst showing as the man in charge of the national team, it was deemed his first two cycles in charge were enough of a success that he had earned a one cycle extension. Coming back from that disappointment though was the high of avenging the loss in the regional championship with winning their first AOCAF in nearly ten editions, having the faith fully restored in the former United manager.

Assistant Manager
Kasper Volheim
Age: 43
After a successful trial run with the recently reinstated U21 national team, Volheim was appointed the assistant manager for the senior team as well with the number of youth players that are in the team and pool at large. Having shown to have the capabilities of managing them at Raynor City United's youth team and being a good go between as an assistant in the Di Bradini Cup, Volheim looks to keep up the success rate at the senior level, helping lead the team to end its trophy drought in the regional championship.

Keepers
GK: Julius Miljeteig, age 35, Cednia Beach AFC Image
GK: Isak Helland, age 30, Aleiusia Capital Image
GK: Günter Obermaier, age 25, Ulsa Image
The position of keeper is one that is important but the Marauders have often been content with merely having someone who makes the saves that they are supposed to, which is exactly what Miljeteig has done for club and country. There is signs of age slowly catching up to Julius, with Helland looking to pounce at any moment where the decrease is too much for the managerial staff to deal with, having played exceptionally well since their move from Rolalas to Aleiusia. Obermaier is touted as the next starter for Ulsa, which should mean he is ready for international callups..

Defenders
CB: Vårin Løvland, age 30, Mar Sara FC (F)
R/CB: Ralph Winter, age 25, Kitara AA Image
CB: Ulrike Kluge, age 30, SC Rinaldi (F)
LRCB Pierre Wisniewski, age 25, Herzegovina City FC Image
L/CB Karoline Wellenbrink, age 25, Raynor City United (F)
RB/RW Gudrun Bißmeier, age 25, Crystal Fair HC Image
Defending as a Vanorian is something that need be taught rather than something that comes natural, as the footballing culture of the nation is to play on the attack or at least control the possession of the game to dictate how it is played. Thankfully Vanorian players are usually quick and eager to learn, giving the Marauders a solid enough corps on the defensive side. Winter is perhaps the key piece to the defense, having won numerous top level trophies in their stay at KAA and with the physical presence to be an enforcer if needed. Løvland is a play playing defender who is a tad undersize but her play in the Premiership shows she is far more than capable of dealing with talented attackers with ease despite her diminutive stature (for a defender). Kluge is a pacy defender who can get forward when needed or track back to cover, though also a tad undersized at five ten. Wellenrink and Bißmeier are solid backups and provide tactical depth should the side decide to go for a four at the back system. Meanwhile Pierre Wisniewski is a utility belt in the defense but is more comfortable on the left than centerl.

Midfielders
LW: Indra Söderström, age 25, Brinemouth Image (F)
LW: Jaimes Ybarra, age 30, FC Capri
D/MC: Gideon Riemann, age 25, AS Bezieres Image
MC: Götz Konstantin, age 25, Bastion Image
MC: Selim Estrada Barrientos, age 22, Raynor City United
A/MC: Heike Schoß, age 25, Jinja City FC Image (F)
AMC/ST: Laborious Hawk, age 753, Bastion Image
AMC: Marco Grunewald, age 30, Raynor City United
L/RW: Pánfilo Veliz, age 32, FC Capri
AMLR Miriam Troegner, age 25, Kingsgrove Image (F)
While the strikers might get all the glory, it is the strength of a well talented and drilled midfield that the Marauders are able to win their matches, though that is probably in large part thanks to the masterful talent that is Laborious Hawk at the attacking midfielder position. Hawk could probably play anywhere in the midfield or attack but has always slotted in neatly as that link between the midfield and strikers, able to distribute or take the chances himself. Veliz on the right is an aging star, most noted for being the first player born in Sabine and Caddonia to make the national team, although his superb crossing and dribbling makes him still a viable starter on the wing even if he is not likely to be able to track back on defense. Söderström has stiff competition on the left from Ybarra and the two will likely split starts, both exceptional wingers, though Indra is the younger with a bit more pep her in her step, though Ybarra is quite capable in his own right. In the center of the park Riemann is a destroyer through and through, able to drop into a more anchor position when called upon, allowing Schoß to play in a more playmaking role. The depth in the midfield is first class and there is not much of a drop off when substitutions or rotation is made from game to game, demonstrating the clear importance and strength in the middle of the park for the Marauders.

Forwards
ST/LW: Lothas Ludwig, age 25, FC Felsenkirchen 1879 Image
ST: Jutta Palminger, age 24, FC Capri (F)
ST: Elias Hammer, age 26, Lonngeylin Coast Image
ST: Hadi Lundström, age 23, Raynor City United (F)
At the top it is the Ludwig show, not that he has the ego to claim it, but he is one of the best strikers in all of the game right now with a brilliant mix of pace, power, and precision to make him a deadly finisher up front. Scoring goals for fun at Felsenkirchen and at very important intervals for the national team, he alongside Hawk are probably the only two names you could pen into any starting eleven on any given matchday. Palminger currently has the position of starting alongside him, being an unusual target forward type build after a late growth spurt, though she is deceptively quick for her size. Behind them are four strikers who all play at an big club and as at least rotational starters with goals in them, not much separating the four from one another, though all are quite some ways behind Ludwig in sheer ability as a striker.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Trigram: SRS
Manager: Anne-Sophie Groothuis Image
After the unexpected success that the Black-and-Reds evaluation team enjoyed at the last AOCAF Cup, making the final before finally being defeated by Valanora, Groothuis is taking a similar approach to this edition of the storied tournament. Several players do return from AOCAF Cup 65, and it is overall a much more experienced team than last time. Still, it's certainly pretty far from the Confederacy's best lineup, and Groothuis will be able to evaluate which players can perform best in her possession-based system, and facilitate the type of fluid, creative attack she wants to foster. Pay particular attention to the left wing position, as its likely that both Naqvi and Vladcik, who have owned that position for a decade, will have retired from international football by the next World Cup. Expectations for this tournament will still be fairly high, despite not bringing the Confederacy's A Team. Groothuis and her Black-and-Reds are riding high, coming off the best cycle in the nation's modern history, with the aforementioned AOCAF Cup final appearance, and a showing in the knockout rounds of World Cup 90. Giving some top-level playing time to the players at the fringes both for evaluation and development will be crucial to this team's chances to go even further, and they will not be content for long with simply making appearances.

Cordian National Football Team

The Cordians are back again. The last AOCAF was pretty painful, and they’ll definitely be looking to avoid another of those. On the other hand, they had a solid WCQ cycle - they still had a chance with a few matchdays to go and defeated Pemecutan, the eventual runners-up. It was then into the Cup of Harmony for them. Opening with a close loss against defending champions Trolleborg, the North Stars put up some good goals against Astograth and held off Eraman, but drew both matches, finishing in fourth. A win in either would have likely sent them to the knockouts, but the Cordians have a fire in their stomachs now. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in this AOCAF.

The team is managed by Diandra Ballard of Nephara, a World Cup-winning keeper for the Nepharan national team and manager of Leichhardt, which she brought from the First Division to the Zenith, but was then fired when the team went back down. Spying a manager with international experience, the Cordian NT hired her. She hasn’t brought immediate success to the program, but she’s kept things from being too painful so far. That’s not enough for her, though, nor is it enough for anyone else. She’s looking to turn things around, starting here in the AOCAF.

Image

Striker Sebastian Voll
Team: Brenville Blue
Age: 30
Captain
27 caps, 12 goals
Known for his positioning and a hard, accurate shot, Voll has been Brenville's top scorer for five years running. Voll is a perfect leader for the team, his goal lifting them up while his leadership keeps the team together.
Substitute: Jorie Rounds | Jutland Cannons | 25 | 12 caps, 2 goals

Striker Anton Osterholt
Team: Gilded City Dragons
Age: 24
27 caps, 13 goals
Osterholt is very good with his feet, able to completely sell a fake, and is notable for some truly spectacular dribble plays he’s made over the years. He's expected to be the primary scorer on a Dragons team that emphasizes a defensive, conservative approach to football.
Substitute: Ine Dijck | Creston Wolves | 29 | 14 caps, 3 goals

Left Midfielder Nicholas Eriksen
Team: Cordasfjord FC
Age: 29
27 caps, 3 goals
Eriksen is well-known for his crosses and passing, an important skill for him as he will be responsible for getting the ball into the box from the left side.
Substitute: Lucas van Oers | Jutland FC | 26 | 16 caps

Left Center Midfielder Hannah Andersen
Team: Winchester City [CDG]
Age: 28
27 caps, 3 goals
Great communication allows Andersen to "overcome" a lack of skill more perceived by sports pundits than real, though many of Andersen's best plays have been made with her head rather than her feet. A more defensive-minded midfielder who will not give up the inside of the field.
Substitute: Henry Smits | Vikings FC | 29 | 12 caps, 1 goal

Right Center Midfielder Erik Pratt
Team: Jutland Cannons
Age: 30
12 caps
Substitute: Ada Baan | Meadow Ridge Maples | 29 | 1 cap

Right Midfielder Rasmus Karlssen
Team: Chatswood [NPH]
Age: 25
27 caps, 2 goals
A very cerebral player with impeccable positioning, and who can read the play and other players perfectly. Karlssen focuses on the fundamentals - you won’t see any flashy plays out of him, but his passing and pace are perfect. He skews defensive but also contributes a bit offensively with a pair of goals and a rack of assists in his time on the national team.
Substitute: Perry Oosterhuis | AJ Anju [QUE] | 28 | 12 caps, 1 goal

Left Back Lucia Verkerk
Team: Gilded City Dragons
Age: 25
19 caps, 1 goal
Usurping Johnson as the starter following a solid performance in the Cup of Harmony. Verkerk is a fearless player, but also a smart one. She takes calculated risks and will put her body on the line for the team - and when the risks work out, as they often do, she’s an unstoppable force. Also, she runs her mouth. A lot. Not at the refs, just at the other players. Like we said, calculated risks.
Substitute: Eric Johnson | Creston Wolves | 26 | 22 caps

Left Center Back Redvin Chase
Team: Jutland Cannons
Age: 28
25 caps, 1 goal
Chase is one of the CIFA's better defenders, with a solid header that often proves critical to the Cordian defense on set pieces. Chase does play a physical game, though, and he could see the yellow and red cards pile up if that gets out of hand.
Substitute: Milani Göransson | Brenville Blue | 25 | 16 caps

Right Center Back Frederick Johnson
Team: Jutland FC
Age: 26
27 caps, 2 goals
Another solid center back, Johnson excels at pinpoint passes and keeping attackers on the outside per the Cordian gameplan.
Substitute: Sigrid Altena | Skalton Harpers | 28 | 12 caps

Right Back Vladimir Demov
Team: Danvirk FC
Age: 30
26 caps, 2 goals
Demov is one of the best defenders in the CIFA, with a powerful shot that can score from outside and impeccable defensive positioning. His experience anchors the Cordian backline.
Substitute: Jean Admiraal | Valley Fold Vengeance | 28 | 16 caps, 1 goal

Goalkeeper Kristin Bergstrin
Team: Jutland Cannons
Age: 26
28 caps, 6 clean sheets
Bergstrin is an exceptional goalkeeper who signed with Cannons over the offseason in order to leave the doomed Lakeshore Hersir. She has been one of the most successful keepers in her time, though there is debate as to whether this is to her credit or the defenses she's been fortunate enough to have in front of her.
Substitute: Jane Hendriks | Rozelle Alliance [BRE] | 1 cap

Previous to that time and subsequently through periods in the 1980's and 90's, the team was usually referred to by the county's national animal, the Elks; the women's National Team were always 'Lady Elks' until the advent of mixed gender play, which was revived during the Jenna Raven Cup and there are still numerous mentions of Elks in the supporters song “We are the Gold & Black”, which currently has close to 175 stanzas.

TEAM HAPILOPPER
Full Nation Name: The Dominion of Hapilopper
Trigramme: HAP
Nickname: The Haps
Team Colors: Blue, Green and White

Info:
The future of Team Hapilopper has never looked brighter. This group of ballplayers, led by team captain and assistant coach Nathan Ellis, have changed everyone's perceptions of what Hapiloppian football on an international stage would look like - exciting and physical, but disappointing once it started to matter. Instead of yet another frustrating qualifying campaign followed up by another disappointing Baptism of Fire run, Team Hapilopper has come off their first run in a World Cup proper. While the team didn't make it past the group stage, the fact that Team Hapilopper made it that far in the first place has given everyone reason to be excited, and given everyone on the team the kind of motivation they need for the AOCAF and for World Cup 91. The clouds are parting. The sun is shining. Team Hapilopper has come to play.

THE PLAYERS:
Image
#1 - BILLY SOLOMON | Goalkeeper | Age: 24 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @billy_solomon | Club: Hap City Highway Patrol
Style of Play: Sweeper Keeper | Speed: Slow | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Intense
Billy Solomon will be the first to tell you that he's a little bit nervous being out there. One of the new breed of Hapiloppian footballers, Solomon is not as well-known as some of his counterparts in Hapiloppian football, and certainly not as famous as his direct predecessor, Cooter Harris. But that's just fine. He's still young, and he's got a bright future ahead of him. He's a highly efficient goalkeeper as well, averaging one goal allowed per 135 minutes of play. Away from the pitch, Solomon is known for sharing uplifting images over social media, with the intention of "leaving a smile on everyone's face, whenever I can. We've got to make this world a better place."

Image
#2 - LEWIS PRYOR | Defenseman/Left Wingback | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @pryor60 | Club: The Soldiers of Hap City
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Professional
For two years now, Lewis Pryor has patrolled the backfield of Capital Stadium with frightening precision, being able to stop an offensive effort with tremendous ease. His style of play is seen as "physical without going too far," and while Lewis will take a card or two, that's almost to be expected from him playing defense. Last year, Lewis accrued 11 yellow cards and three red cards - two because of card accumulation and one straight red, and donated money to a local children's hospital for each card received. Lewis said he modeled it off of HTN's highly controversial "They Crash, You Win!" sweepstakes from the Hapiloppian Grand Prix.

Image
#3 - ACE BOONE | Defenseman/Right Wingback | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: Colonial Sile (Vilita)
Style of Play: Man-To-Man | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Antisocial
You remember those annoying jerks in high school that would try to piss you off any chance they got? The one that would make your life miserable, or at least try to, as you tried to get from class to class? Ace Boone most likely patterns himself off of these kinds of people. Hell, he probably was one in high school. These aren't the kind of people that will stuff you into a gym locker or drench you at the water fountain, but they're the ones that are annoying pests, and will say the most obnoxious things to you to try to piss you off. Ace plays man-to-man defense that way, getting right up in the face of a midfielder or a striker. Rumors persist about Boone saying some real obnoxious things to forwards, too, but he's not talking.

Image
#4 - JEROLD DICKMAN | Defenseman/Defensive Sweeper | Age: 21 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @JerryDMan | Club: Hap City Highway Patrol
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Oh Hell Yes | Attitude: Asshole
Amazingly, Jerold Dickman didn't get himself kicked off the national team squad, something he considers something of a major accomplishment in his own right. That speaks for both his growing maturity and the fact that he has gelled more with his teammates than the last time he was on a national team squad. That, of course, was that Sporting World Cup squad, where Dickman started a massive brawl with the Xanneria Under-18 squad in Taeshan. Since then, Dickman got the professional help he needed, and eventually the Hapilopper City Highway Patrol squad came calling. With that, Dickman evolved to be one of the premier defenders in Hapiloppian football, with some comparing him to a younger Nathan Ellis. The future looks very bright, if he can behave himself.

Image
#5 - NATHAN ELLIS | Defenseman/Centerback Stopper/Player-Coach | Age: 34 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @NateEllis | Club: Southfell United (Nephara)
Style of Play: Homicidal | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Oh Hell Yes | Attitude: A Father to his Men
Nathan Ellis, the final original player from that Baptism of Fire 70 squad, is most likely the reason that Hapilopper is even here in the first place. Ellis has been promoted to the assistant coach position on the squad, serving as the second-in-command to Thom Perkins, and pitsiders watching Team Hapilopper in the last World Cup were hardly surprised. The old Nathan Ellis, who would just as soon kill you as he would take the ball away from you, is still there on the pitch. However, off the pitch, he has become a mentor to many of the national team players. His teammates look to him for advice, and he'll fight for them for their ability to play. The team had planned on sitting out World Cup 90 owing to a lockout of national teams, but Ellis reportedly went to the bargaining table and, according to at least one witness, threatened to cut off at least one person's head if the team missed the World Cup qualifiers.

Image
#6 - MAVERICK KING | Midfielder | Age: 24 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @MavKing | Club: United Hampton Cities
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Professional
With a name like "Maverick King," you probably have to think he got a lot of attention when he was in school. He probably heard it all the time from his classmates. "You're the Maverick King?" kids would ask. "You look like a fat chump to me!" All the jokes. All the nastiness. And Maverick King wanted to get past it. And then one day he snapped, body-slamming a bully to the ground. A teacher, concerned about what could happen, told Maverick to consider getting into soccer. And so he did, channeling his anger and frustration into soccer, being a better player, and getting in shape. He takes the heckling in stride and channels it to become a better footballer.

Image
#7 - JAMES HUDDLESTON | Midfielder | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: FC Buckridge
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Determined
So, you know how major sports stars get off a bus and arrive at the stadium with those huge headphones covering their ears? Many listen to all kinds of music. Country music. House music. Rock music. Metal. Rap. Jimmy Huddleston, however, is listening to old radio broadcasts from the HASCAR Radio Network, which does the radio coverage of the HASCAR Challenge Cup stock car racing series in Hapilopper, as well as the Super Skychief 500 NSSCRA race. Jimmy's father, Greg, is the chief announcer for the network, and has been for over 25 years. Jimmy Huddleston could be listening to last year's Super Skychief 500 and the bone-chilling call of Drake Stevenson chasing down Kai Qiang. Jimmy says it gets him in the right frame of mind to play ball, and to play his brand of defensive football. And there's few players in Hapilopper that can play the midfield like Jimmy Huddleston can.

Image
#8 - WILLIAM ALTENBERRY | Midfielder | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @William_Altenberry | Club: Pinkerton City SC
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Friendly
William Altenberry has already said he's a Pinkerton lifer. Born and raised in Pinkerton, a smaller town on the southern part of Hapilopper, Altenberry enjoys playing in front of those he has known his entire life. Teachers, school friends, his youth group at church, his relatives - ALL the relatives, Altenberry enjoys going out there, jockeying for position against his opponents and occasionally scoring goals that he'll invariably dedicated to his high school sweetheart, Ashley. How sweet. But there's a different side of Altenberry on the pitch that his very friendly nature belies. Altenberry can - and will - get into card trouble as he fights for the ball. Not on the level of, say, Nate Ellis or Jerold Dickman, but he'll go for it.

Image
#9 - HERB NORTHROP | Midfielder | Age: 23 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @herb_northrop | Club: FC Buckridge
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Normal | Attitude: Professional
Herbert Northrop, one of many, many players from Hapilopper's infamous Sporting World Cup teams, is one of the most spiritual members of a Hapiloppian football team that has existed. A graduate of Southland Christian Academy in Buckridge, Northrop makes sure to say a prayer before he hits the pitch, and when he scores a goal, he drops to one knee and says a prayer to the Good Lord Above for allowing him to score a goal. You won't see Northrop pulling off cheap shots like Jerold Dickman, and you won't see him attempting to end someone's career (or life) like Nathan Ellis. That's not what he does. Instead, he tries to play as professionally as he can, as cleanly as he can, as effectively as he can. And his style is quite effective, leading the Hapiloppian League in midfielder goals last year with 12.

Image
#10 - PETER ROBSON | Forward | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @PeteRobson | Club: FC Surrey
Style of Play: Creative | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Professional
Pete Robson, one of two forwards for Team Hapilopper, was second in goals last year with 36, leading FC Surrey to second place in the Hapiloppian League, a surprising statistic considering FC Surrey, or sports in Surrey at all for that matter, have been known for their success. In fact, the most noteworthy thing in sport in Surrey lately has been the backlash to a ballpark in the northern Surrey suburbs. Instead of thinking about all of the failures that have plagued sports in Surrey over the years, Pete Robson put his head down and did what he did best - score goals, and he scored a hell of a lot of them. Away from the field, Robson is a key member of a group in Surrey that calls themselves "The Asskickers," a group from Surrey Perimeter College that held some damned spectacular parties in the style of Fernie Fairburn's old parties at that school.

Image
#11 - TOBY BRYSON | Forward | Age: 22 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @tobyb90 | Club: The Soldiers of Hapilopper City
Style of Play: Straightforward | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Relaxed
The man in the Ernie Stevenson role, Toby Bryson has adapted to the position quite well. He doesn't pull off the "hop-skip-holy shit" goals that his predecessor was able to perform, but that's not what Toby does. He doesn't go for style points, he goes for goals, and that's that. While there had been pressure at the start of the run over concerns that Toby wouldn't be able to match up to Ernie Stevenson, many pitsiders have agreed that Toby is his own man and he'll still get those goals scored, just in his own specific way and in his own style. He doesn't need to be Ernie, he contends. He needs to be himself. Away from the pitch, Toby has gained positive attention for his work helping out in the soup kitchens in the southside of Hapilopper City.

Image
#12 - MORRIS JAMISON | Forward | Age: 22 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @jamisonmo | Club: Hap City Highway Patrol
Style of Play: Scrappy | Speed: Fast | Physicality: High | Attitude: Antisocial
Morris Jamison will have you believe that he should be the one in the Ernie Stevenson slot. He should be the one wearing the number 11. After all, he'll be the first to tell you he's scrapped for everything he's ever had. Barely making the team at Conrad Saylor High School, before impressing the coaches enough to make him the lead striker. Riding the bench on the SWC side, before amazing his teammates at the Highway Patrol enough to give him that much more time for the coaches to see him. He's worked for everything he's got and damn it, he's going to make damn sure that Thom Perkins makes him start a match or two. Students at Saylor High arriving by bus in the morning have seen the lights on in the stadium as the sun rises. They'll see Jamison, by himself, practicing pivot moves and long-distance shots on goal. And if that's the case, he's been there all night.

Image
#13 - ELIAS MOON | Forward | Age: 22 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @eliasmoon | Club: Rammsissil (Vilita)
Style of Play: Creative | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Creative
On the other hand, Elias Moon is just happy to be here. Since barely making the SWC squad a few years ago, Moon has made a living on trying out as many trick shots on goal as he can. He wants to be just like Ernie Stevenson, although without the other parts of Ernie Stevenson. In other words, he's a trick-shot artist and that's it. His videos of trick shots have gone viral on social media, like, most recently, a goal scored from the back of a moving minivan circling around the pitch of Capital Stadium, a stunt that impressed both Hapiloppian fans and angered the Hapilopper National Baseball Team after it led to some damage to the artificial turf at the stadium. But while his goal scoring is on point, his fundamentals could use some work, and that's why he's riding the bench.

Image
#20 - KERRY SPALDING | Midfielder | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @k-spalding | Club: Raceway FC
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Rough | Attitude: Moron
Veteran observers will tell you that a Hapiloppian sports team, it just so seems, just has to have at least one idiot on it. They're a great ball player or race car driver, but they do stupid things. Chris Holmes put an iguana in Kai Qiang's car. Nolan Jefferson stole a bullpen cart and crashed it into a gas station. Kerry Spalding, meanwhile, missed half the season last year after a night of bowling at Sparky's Lanes, a popular bowling alley in Buckridge. While there, Spalding ran down a bowling lane like an idiot and attempted to shoot it from point blank range. Unfortunately, he slipped, fell and landed flat on his face, twisting both of his ankles and breaking his nose. What an idiot. There is a unfortunate belief, and this seems to support it, that Hapiloppian athletes can be the biggest dingbats in international sport.

Image
#21 - PIERS ADCOCK | Midfielder | Age: 21 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: Peoria FC
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Yeah, it's there alright | Attitude: Asshole
What is it about people named "Piers"? Piers Adcock, defensive midfielder for Team Hapilopper, is that kind of player you just want to punch out. Not because he's being stupid, but because it seems like he's so god damn full of himself. He has to look his absolute best, the world has to revolve around him - hell, before a training session leading up to the start of World Cup 89, Piers marched into the locker room and declared "the future of Hapiloppian football has just arrived, and that future is me!" He's lucky Nate Ellis didn't go over and pop him in the mouth. But the point was made. Piers has a very arrogant attitude, even more so for a backup player. When he does get playing time, he'll play as dirty as the rest of them, something that DID get him punched by midfielder Maverick King during a training session. We'll see how this attitude develops.

Image
#22 - RUFUS HARTLEY | Midfielder | Age: 22 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @r-p-hartley | Club: Pinkerton City SC
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: He's named Rufus, what do you expect | Attitude: Brawler
Just so you know, Rufus Parnell Hartley is a nice guy. He'll be the first donating at church. He tips well at restaurants. He helps at the soup kitchen if needed. But on the field, he's one of those guys that will get into a brawl on the pitch if someone wrongs him. He'll drop a player with the kind of tackle that makes Nathan Ellis wish he had pulled that on Alexis Fotellis. But he'll also score goals if needed, scoring nine last year for Pinkerton. He'll be a dominating presence on the offensive side of the pitch, making other players bend to his will, by force if need be. Away from the pitch, Hartley's family owns dozens of Jane's Diner franchises all around the Pinkerton area, to the point where some have called Hartley "the heir to the all-night diner".

Image
#23 - ORAL ROUNDTREE | Midfielder | Age: 22 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @roundtree25 | Club: Mliona-Lpaka (Turori)
Style of Play: Hybrid | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Professional
So imagine going through life with the name "Oral." Poor Oral's parents had nine months and they came up with Oral. His classmates had a field day with that name. That was, until he started playing football. There's a story that goes around Michael Bell High in North Hampton about how a student in a physical education class had spent the entire day getting on Oral's case about his name, with all of THOSE jokes. Once they got onto the soccer pitch, that student stopped making those jokes. Oral had nutmegged him and made him look like a complete idiot. And that's what he does. He doesn't let the jokes bother him, he just gets the job done and turns the jokers into the jokes like he's always done. He scored five goals for UHC last year and those goals came in some real clutch times, helping the team to fourth place in the Hapiloppian League standings last year.

Image
#24 - PARKER MATHIS | Midfielder | Age: 20 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @HAPFirstDude | Club: Lakiska SC (Banija)
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Intense
The youngest member of Team Hapilopper could very well be its most controversial. Parker Mathis, you see, is the son of William Mathis, the President of Hapilopper. And oh boy, the claims of "nepotism" and "favoritism" rang out like nothing else. But those that cried the loudest were those that knew the least. While Mathis won't shy away from who his father is, he doesn't play like he was entitled to anything. He's a vicious player that could serve as either a defenseman or a midfielder, depending on where he's needed. And oh yeah, he'll get into card trouble, all right. Last year, surprisingly, in his rookie season, he led the Hapiloppian League in red cards with five, and also led the league in Presidential ass-thrashings, too. Rumor has it that William Mathis himself went down into the West River locker room after a couple of games and ripped his son a new one for playing like a complete douchebag. His teammates aren't talking.

Image
#30 - FABIAN TRELOAR | Defenseman | Age: 22 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @treloar | Club: Pinkerton City SC
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Not enough | Attitude: Friendly
So, just for one second, close your eyes and picture in your mind the first thing that comes through your mind when we say "Fabian Treloar." What did he look like? The kind of pretty male that appears on the front of those weird-ass romance novels they sell in supermarkets? That would be incorrect. This guy's got a dingy dark mullet, he's a little chubby, and he's far from the kind of person that ladies dream of. He reads comic books and streams video games. On the pitch, though, Fabian can stop an offensive from the middle, and when he does, he does it very efficently. He's not a cheap bastard about it, he's just efficent. If he gets a card, it's by total accident. Many suggest he has a bright future ahead, but it wouldn't hurt him to get a little more physical, a little dirtier, and quite frankly, there's no shame in getting a card or two. In Hapilopper, it's to be expected.

Image
#31 - QUINTIN MONTAGUE | Defenseman | Age: 22 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @q-mont18 | Club: Garvinson Trojans
Style of Play: Man-To-Man | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Professional
Here's a reader. Quintin Montague is one of the biggest readers in Hapiloppian sport. He'll read anything. He'll read an offensive effort. He'll read the Garvinson Picayune. He'll read the lips of a fan in the 17th row. He'll read all the latest popular novels released in Hapilopper. He'll try to read a midfielder's mind as they're racing down the pitch. And he'll read the playbooks ad nauseam. That's a good attitude to have, and it's a good trait. But what Montague doesn't have is that killer instinct to be a regular starter, at least, not yet. He's been psyched out by opposing players a little too much for Team Hapilopper's liking. Members of the coaching staff are working on this, though. How they're working on it, well, watch this space. It might involve Nathan Ellis and some drill sergeant tactics, which sounds a little frightening on its face.

Image
#32 - ASHLEY STANFORD | Defenseman | Age: 23 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @stanford-the-kicker | Club: Border City United
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Oh Hell Yeah | Attitude: Ruthless
The second woman to make it to a Hapilopper national football team, Ashley Stanford is not here to look pretty, nor is she here to make friends with anyone. She's here to kick some ass, and with Border City United last year, she did exactly that, famously breaking the collarbone of UHC striker Shelley Linwood with a cheap shot clothesline as he was on his way to bring a goal into the back of the net. And she didn't give two shits. When asked after the game if she had any remorse for breaking his collarbone, her response was simple: "I'm not paid to think about that. He shouldn't have come up to goal. My job is to stop him." With that kind of attitude, it's wondered if she'll take the Nate Ellis role after he retires from play, whenever that is.

Image
#33 - LEVI BATESON | Defenseman | Age: 21 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @levi_bateson | Club: West Hampton Sports Club
Style of Play: Man-To-Man | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Sufficient | Attitude: Relaxed
Known more for his prowess on the saxophone than his prowess on the pitch, Levi Bateson nevertheless gets by with his play for the West Hampton Sports Club, which, before you get any ideas, is more than enough to stop an offensive effort if need be. Some suggest that Bateson's style of play is a throwback to the pre-World Cup days, when Hapiloppian footballers would play a more relaxed style of football. That's not a compliment. It's removed from the hair-on-fire, balls-to-the-wall style of play that has developed since Hapilopper started playing international football. Either way, he's still good at it, good enough to make the national team. As for his saxophone prowess, it's magnificent. Bateson plays for a band that tours across the Hampton Cities, and his saxophone solos are among the most popular parts of their concerts.

Image
#60 - KENNY SHELLEY | Goalkeeper | Age: 22 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: FC Surrey
Style of Play: Roving Keeper | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Excitable
Kenny Shelley will be the first to tell you that he's not expecting much in the way of playing time. He's a servicable keeper for FC Surrey, but good enough to get an assignment on the national team. He's averaged around 97 minutes per goal allowed, which is good, but not great. Many suggest that his best days are well ahead of him, as with most of the Hapiloppian team. Could he be another Cooter Harris? It's hard to say. At least he has the persona down pat. Shelley drives a 1986 Major pick-up truck, a truck he's had since high school. He's carried everything from lumber to dirt to his girlfriend in the back of that truck, and it's likely he loves that truck more than life itself.

Image
#90 - DUKE STAMP | Goalkeeper | Age: 21 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @stamperHAP | Club: Cednia Beach AFC (Turori)
Style of Play: Traditional | Speed: Slow | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Moron
By now, you've seen the videos by now, or at least, we hope you've seen the videos. Duke Stamp decided one day to try out the concept of automotive buoyancy. So he drove his car as fast as he could into the pool of one of his teammates. The car went right in the pool and proved the theory that automotive buoyancy, for the most part, is total bullshit. Worse, it was a $65,000 Preston Super Skychief that he had just bought off the dealership floor, a car that had 25 miles on it. So Duke Stamp wound up ruining a brand new, very nice car just to try out this idiotic theory that cars can float. On the pitch, Stamp is an efficient goalkeeper, averaging 125 minutes per goal allowed, but he's relegated to keeper no. 3 because of his idiotic behavior.

The Team Hapilopper Headquarters, Hapilopper City
A few days before leaving for the AOCAF
All was quiet on a Tuesday afternoon in the headquarters of Team Hapilopper, where the national team practiced and got ready for international competition. In a few days, the team would travel to Jabal Akhdar to compete in the tournament, and would have to deal with competition from Schima Bas, Fort McKinley and Sarzonia in the group stage, with the first match coming against Fort McKinley. For a few days, the national team had been training together for the first time since being eliminated in the group stage of World Cup 90, the first time the team had ever actually made it into the World Cup proper.

Just making it did so much to help the team’s psyche out. There was practically no turnover from the World Cup, and none was expected after the AOCAF ended. That gave the staff, led by Hapilopper Football Association head Dom Probst, head coach Thom Perkins, and assistants Nathan Ellis and Myrone Rhule something less to worry about. The team felt like they were on the same page, as was the coaching staff, giving them something even less to worry about as well. So on this day, while Dom and Thom were out on the golf course with an old friend, and while Myrone was out doing whatever the hell he did for leisure, Nathan Ellis was in his office, watching videotapes of Sarzonian matches from years past.

Nathan and his fellow coaches viewed Sarzonia as the biggest threat in the group stage. They had been around a while and always seemed to be there when it came time to decide the winners, so Nathan figured he wanted to study their matches a little harder, just to see if there were any weaknesses he and his teammates could exploit. He looked out to the window of his office, behind his desk. That window overlooked the practice pitch, and it was revealing an absolutely beautiful day outside. For a second, Nathan thought about stepping out of the office to walk over to Judy’s, an ice cream shop not far from the team headquarters.

And he was just about to when the receptionist stormed into his office. It was clear that the receptionist was bothered with something she had just heard. But still, Nathan didn’t really appreciate the interruption.

“Can I help you with something?” Nathan asked.

“Yeah, have you seen Dom and Thom?” the receptionist asked. “There’s something that needs their immediate attention.”

“They’re over at Deer Run,” Nathan said. “They went out golfing with an old friend. You can try calling them but I tried earlier and their phones were off.”

“Well, shit!” the receptionist replied, a little panicked. “I just got off the phone with William Mathis’s assistant. He’s on his way here and he’s not happy.”

“…the President?” Nathan asked, his attention piqued. “What the hell does President Mathis want with us?”

“Well, you know his son, he’s on the national team, President Mathis is pissed off that his son got transferred to a foreign club,” the receptionist replied. “He wanted him to stay in Hapilopper and he wanted to read Dom Probst the riot act over it.”

Nathan rolled his eyes and got up from his couch.

“Listen, Parker Mathis is an adult, he’s capable of making adult decisions and he’s capable of playing adult football where ever he wants to play it,” Nathan responded. “I’ll talk to him. Quite frankly, Mathis should be fortunate his son’s playing in Banija. Hell of a lot worse places you could go. A HELL of a lot.”

Nathan wasn’t particularly worried about Parker Mathis or any of the other players that had signed with international clubs. They had all ended up in good places – in either Vilita, Turori or in Banija, not far from home, so they could travel home whenever they weren’t playing. There had been some concern over international players ending up playing in other countries, but Nathan, who had been playing club football in Nephara for the last several seasons, wasn’t all that worried with it. In fact, he felt it raised Hapilopper’s stature on the international stage.

So when William Mathis, the President of Hapilopper, stormed into Nathan’s office, Nathan figured he knew what to say and what not to say. At the very least, he’d give the President a chance to vent his spleen, and then he’d say his piece and hopefully talk the President off the ledge.

“Mr. Ellis, I came for Dom Probst or Thom Perkins, are they here?” Mathis asked.

“They’re out golfing,” Nathan replied. “And Myrone Rhule is out doing whatever he does. He’s weird. He’s a Xannerian. Who knows what Xannerians do in their free time.”

“Well, I wanted to speak to someone about this deal with my son,” Mathis groused. “I’m not too pleased with it and I was wondering if I could get it corrected.”

“Speak to me then,” Nathan said. “I play internationally too, tell me what’s on your mind.”

“Alright…” Mathis started, feeling a little uneasy. He knew Nathan Ellis, and he knew his reputation. That reputation made him a little bit uncomfortable, but he didn’t need to be. “So, as the President of Hapilopper, I feel like it’s important for my son to be playing here in Hapilopper, not out in another nation. I told Dom Probst to do whatever he could to try to block any transfer of my son to another nation, and yet, I get a call from him saying he’s playing for some team in Banija! Do you have any idea how frustrated that’s made me?”

“No,” Nathan said. “I don’t.”

“Well, it does. As the President of Hapilopper, I need my son playing in Hapilopper, to show the rest of the world that we’re capable of having a good league. What message does that send to the rest of the world when the President’s son decides to go to Banija instead?”

“Alright, Mr. President, can I tell you something?” Nathan asked. “I think you’re looking at this from the wrong angle. You’re looking at this from how you can benefit politically from this. I think you should ask your son what he thinks of it. And I think you should thank him for going to a place like Banija. I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but that’s a fantastic nation to visit, and I seem to think it’s one of our closest allies.”

“Yeah, but…”

“But nothing, Mr. President,” Nathan continued. “Banija is not far from here, and it’s one of the best options he could have taken. He could have gone to one of those nations in Anaia, for heaven’s sake. You think that’d be good for any of us if he went to one of those places?”

“He wouldn’t go to Anaia,” Mathis said.

“I wouldn’t either. I fear how I’d be treated there,” Nathan continued. “But every time I speak to Parker, he’s a good kid, he’s got a bright future, and he wants to play ball in a great nation. He’s going to get a great life experience that he might not have gotten if he stayed here. I’ve played in Nephara for the last several years, and it’s been one of the best things to ever happen to me.”

“What do you mean?” Mathis asked.

“Well, I’ve been able to expand myself as a footballer and I’ve been able to immerse myself in the Nepharim culture,” Nathan explained. “Not only that, but the Nepharim Zenith league is perhaps the top league in all the multiverse. I’ve become a better ballplayer because I got to play in the Zenith. Your boy will become a better player playing in Banija. It’s one thing to deal with the same players and the same teams week after week after week, but when you’re dealing with different competition? You get to earn your keep and you improve.”

Nathan looked at President Mathis with a serious look on his face. Not a hostile look as if he was going to whale away on him, but a serious, professional look.

“You need to look at this like a father, not like a politician,” Nathan said. “Don’t think of how this will hurt you. That’s selfish and, to be honest, kind of disgusting. Look at it like a proud father. Your boy is getting to do what he loves in a nation that’s going to do him right as a footballer. He’s going to be a better man and a better footballer for it.”

Derizi was trained in the the goalkeeper program at the Eelandii Academy. While in Eelandii, the Youth Team qualified for the IFCF Youth Cup after finishing as Top Turorian Youth side in the Tropicorp Youth Cup. Performances for the Academy resulted in a contract with Sporta Eelandii Senior Squad but the Senior Squad was relegated from the Declasse automatically triggering a release clause for the young goalkeeping prospect. Instead of staying local, Derizi opted to take their talents to Eura joining Revolutionaries as they look to take their career to the next level overseas. Amatopa’s first internationstatal tournament came with the Vilitan Union at the XIV Olympic Games and the youngster would earn a Gold Medal despite not appearing in any of the matches. It was a different situation during the 50th Di Bradini Cup when Amatopa started in three of Vilita & Turori’s 7 matches in route to the championship. Amatopa would also start the majority of matches for the Turori National Team during Eagle’s Cup X where Turori earned the Bronze Medal. On a Domestic level, Amatopa took over as starting goalkeeper for Revolutionaries at the age of 18 and earned Goalkeeper of the Season Honors during EuraLeague 45 after leading Revolutionaries to the Euraleague Title. Amatopa became a World Cup Champion when Turori defeated The Holy Empire to win World Cup 88. Amatopa led all Turori goalkeepers with seven starts in the Qualifying round as well as having started one match during the World Cup 88 Finals.

Milake's domestic career wouldn't go as smoothly, however, and after spending 2 seasons in the Declasse after Lonngeylin Coast's relegation, the World Cup winner returned to his roots, re-signing for high-flying Eastal Lunar in Season 46. Offspring of famed Vilitan netminder Zelkki Milake, one of the youngest Starting netminders in history to win the World Cup Final (World Cup 68), Milake has followed in their fathers footsteps by taking on the Goalkeepers Gloves and now trains under their father at Eastal Lunar FC. While not expected to compete for a place on the Vilitan National Team anytime soon, the sky is the limit for the Astronaut Trainee who is also, quite literally, an Astronaut Trainee attending school at the Astronaut Academy at the nearby Vilitan Space Outpost. Milake Jr.’s debut would come as a surprise starter against Delaclava on the second matchday of the 50th Di Bradini Cup. At just 16 years of age the younger Milake would make a name for themselves winning each of their four starts in the competition and helping to lead Vilita & Turori to their first Under-21 World Cup Title in over 60 cycles. Milake Jr. would make their first start for the Vilitan National Team in a 2-2 draw against Savojarna during the penaltimate matchday of World Cup 88 Qualifying before adding to their Medal Wall as the starting goalkeeper in the Quarter Final and Semi-Final rounds of the Vilitan Union’s XV Olympic Gold Medal Campaign.

A local player in Kiiarana City, Talingri impressed with their shot-stopping abilities in front of scouts for the Vilitan National Team and was drafted into the Vilita and Turori Eel Cat Things Squad for the 51st Di Bradini Cup Competition as third string behind Derizi Amatopa and Zelkki Milake Jr. Talingri would lead Kiiarana City to the Tropicorp Youth Cup Title. Talingri Would also represent the Vilitan Union in the 15th Summer Olympiad starting two Group stage matches before serving as backup for the remainder of the tournament as the Vilitan Union earned the Gold Medal with a shootout victory over Chromatika. Talingri’s display of talent would earn them a transfer to Monmouth Park in the Commonwealth of Baker Park

The impressive prospect became one of the youngest defenders to start a Vilitan NT matchup when they made their debut against Vartugia during World Cup 83 Qualifying and would score their first career goal for the NT later that cycle in a 5-1 victory over Mattijana. With Jlinal Cove FC mired in the Declasse Division as they had been for much of their existence, and with the club retaining Koranjo’s rights in the Vilitan League, the player decided to seek an international transfer during the 26th Transfer Window. Koranjo would ultimately sign with Cazadores Cathair after being impressed with the teams performance in the 6th Vilitan Cove Invitational tournament which Cazadores shared a training ground with the Vilita & Turori Under-21 Squad. After the success of the Cocoabo Squad during World Cup 79 however, the highly touted prospect acceped an invitation to be apart of Vilita's World Cup 80 Qualifying playing pool. Nation name: Jabal Akhdar
Trigram: EJA
Adjective/demonym: Akhdari
Nickname: Green Falcons

Players in red are new to the squad. All players are domestic unless otherwise noted, and all players are available for transfer as free agents.

Coach: Rasheeq el-Hamid

el-Hamid took over from Maajid al-Shaer, who led the Green Falcons through two mediocre AOCAF campaigns, earning three draws in Siovanija & Teusland, and a first win in Equestria, but never seriously looking like contenders, and immediately took the Green Falcons to their first ever playoff round. Formerly a manager with Ashkarqa, Souday, and Al Maidura, el-Hamid is pretty experienced and regarded as a defensively minded coach who might have a low tolerance for poor discipline and the clumsy errors that have plagued past Green Falcons’ campaigns.

Goalkeepers

1 – GK – Mamdooh el-Abdul (Salayrah) – 27
12 – GK – Abdul Kader el-Sham (Khamad) – 27
23 – GK – Ashraf Muhyddeen al-Hammoud (AOPIC Greens) – 28

Although el-Sham is more popular and al-Hammoud plays for the leading club, it’s el-Abdul, a controversial but acrobatic figure, who keeps the #1 jersey. He’s served a doping ban in his short career and can be indecisive in managing his defensive area, but as a pure shot-stopper he’s the best option, and has accrued the most experience for the NT.

Defenders

2 – DL – Mu’min Humam Kassis (AOPIC Greens) – 28
3 – DR – Rayyan Noor Zaman (Image Maigburg) – 27
4 – DC – Umar el-Saladin (Khamad) – 20
5 – DC – Umair Jalil al-Jalil (Dhabaidat) – 22
13 – DR – Masood Abdullah (Habasfan) – 21
17 – DL – Faai Zayyaan el-Karim (Ashkarqa) – 23
19 – DC – Abdus Samad al-Idris (Image Jáhkot) – 27
21 – DC – Bilaal el-Hamad (Al Maidura) – 26

el-Saladin is a strong young center-back brought in at a tender age as the team seeks new options at the position it’s struggled at the most. With el-Aslam and al-Reza aged out, the young talent al-Jalil is brought in to partner him. Stockier and less of an aerial threat, he's at least a bit better on the ball. The flashy Kassis has been in and out of the team: for now, he's back in, while the team’s best player remains Zaman, a wing-back with a powerful right boot who’s always a threat to shoot or cross; unusually for a fullback, he was the team’s highest scorer in World Cup qualifying.

Midfielders

7 – MC – Abdul-Majid Jarir Hakimi (AOPIC Greens) – 30
11 – MC – Siddeeqi el-Saidi (Salayrah) – 30
14 – DM – Mutlaq el-Basha (AOPIC Greens) – 23
16 – MC – Dhaafir el-Moustafa – (Image Khupolole Leopards) – 30
17 – MC – Sidqi Zuhair el-Afzal (AOPIC Greens) – 26
20 – MC – Shaddaad el-Hashemi (Kalbam) – 29

Taking over from Saadiq Batr el-Matar is his young apprentice at AOPIC Greens, Mutlaq el-Basha, a sturdy defensive midfielder not afraid to put the boot on. He partners the experience el-Moustafa, who’s more of a holding midfielder, shuttling up and down the pitch. He has a good work rate but a poor final touch can let down his passing. The two hold down positions behind the playmarker, Hakimi, who’s been the team’s best player for a while, at least on his good days. He’s a popular player who likes to attack, both the opposition goal, and sometimes fans. el-Hashemi has already amassed a long and depressing injury history in his career as a playmaking attacking midfielder; el-Afzal is a dependable but not particularly exciting distributor; el-Saidi, new to the team, has attacking instincts that his skill set doesn’t always allow him to realize.

Forwards

8 – LW – Misfar Akram (AOPIC Greens) – 27
9 – CF – Zainuddeen al-Ali (Salayrah) – 29
10 – CF – Wajeeh el-Fadel (AOPIC Greens) – 29
15 – RW – Mohammad Jaasir el-Nasir (Khamad) – 28
13 – CF – Dhaki Raashid al-Shaheed (Khamad) – 26
19 – RW – Najeeb Ghaalib el-Farooqi (Kalbam) – 29

el-Fadel remains the first choice striker. He isn’t tall for a striker, but his low center of gravity allows him to stop and turn on a dinar, and he has a ferociously powerful left boot. Neither Akram nor el-Asri are true wingers: they'll play more as support strikers, the burly Akram cutting inside but not always making the best of his final touch, the speedy el-Nasir dogged off the ball but not a great shooter. el-Farooqi is a consistent trundler, al-Ali a talent who hasn't quite managed to out it together, al-Shaheed something of a has-been at this stage.

┤ THE ROSTER ├

44- HAMADA Roshi
Height: 181cm - Weight: 90kg – Age: 25 years old - Team: Concord Dusk AFC

After signing a three year, ¥15 million contract with Concord Dusk AFC, Hamada Roshi has essentially made it as a goalkeeper in Gyatso-kai. Coming onto Concord Dusk to backup the aging Kjotvi Bar’kad is no easy assignment, however, with most analysts seeing Bar’kad retiring sooner rather than later, Hamada may see himself starting for the Black & Gold.

A player who developed an odd style in the Fire Nation, Hamada is known for stepping way in front of the net and attempting to use his physique to stop an offensive player before getting to the ball. Many attribute this odd quirk to Hamada and his twin brother Yoshi having grown up playing ice hockey; whereas Roshi would go on to find his love in football, his brother Yoshi continues to attract scouts on the ice at the University of Kyoko in the Fire Nation. Equally adept at his position as a younger Kio’los, the 2021.3 Campaign has already seen Hamada start in net twice for the Bisons; during the first victory over Ko-oren and the nil-all draw against Mertagne.

Starting World Cup XC as the backup to Armok Hikari, Hamada earned the starting position after a pair of losses which saw Armok pulled. In his first start of the campaign, Armok saved 27 shots on net and allowed zero goals against Omerica, and would go on to a 4-1-1 record for the World Cup before a stomach bug would take him out for the remainder of the tournament. After Armok retook the starting position, though, the Bisons fell flat, losing three straight matches to end the tournament on a sour note.

Perhaps it is time for the torch to be passed…

22- ARMOK Hikari
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 29 years old - Team: Southern AFC

Entering into his eighth season with Southern AFC, Armok Hikari has continued to improve and grow when compared to his days back at the University of Omashu. Having taken over for Zhao Baoli since his retirement following World Cup 85, Armok has proven time and time again that he is set to be another storied goalkeeper for the Bisons.

Unlike his predecessor who favored sniping mid-range clears, Armok tends to favor the long-range kicks out to midpitch so as to clear as much action from the back end as possible. Also, Armok is a much more traditional goalkeeper when compared to the very ball-heavy play styles of the former starter for the Bisons; he firmly believes that his primary goal is to stop balls from getting to the net, and by clearing out the attacking zone quickly, it gives him a chance to set the team up more defensively as he does tend to hand over possession often, but that allows him to focus on the main job of stopping balls and not worrying about diving out of the box and going for more ‘flashy’ plays.

After a depressing World Cup performance, Armok was taken from the Starting XI and placed on backup. Winning just one match in World Cup XC, Armok would lose seven games and fall out of favor with then-Interim Head Coach Wong Haru.

Wonder if he’ll be able to regain that trust…

31- LEE Findao
Height: 191cm - Weight: 94kg – Age: 22 years old - Team: Academy of South Kibago

An incredibly young and underdeveloped player – at least in terms of multi-verse play – Lee Findao took the Avatarian Football world by surprise when it was announced after The Combine that they would be taking the Reserve Position on the National Team ahead of suspected replacement Pao Lishin. Such a surprise that on the day the rosters were set to be announced, Lee had already packed themselves up and was boarding a transport out of the National Sports Complex.

Not the most confident way to start your journey to the AOCAF Cup…

With a collegiate style typical of players his size – wide stance, quick to try and muscle defenders out of the ball, and making saves from deep out of the net – we can only hope that has time goes on, Lee will continue to mature under the tutelage of Nishimura on the National Team. Though, with the fall of Armok Hikari from the graces of the Starting XI, it may be that during this Cup of Harmony we see Lee earn his first multi-verse cap.

Travelling With the Team

Name Age Team Nation .
PAO Lishin 25 Mando FC Earth
TSUTSAMA Yen 22 Keldabe FC Fire
TSUNADE Ki’sae 21 Kyoshi State University Mandalorian

As had been done under Vhett, Head Coach Tay’haai has instituted a Travelling Corps so as to bring young and upcoming players along with the Bisons to show them what Multiverse Play is all about. Pao Lishin, still a bit bitter about being passed over last World Cup and now for AOCAF, is a surprise to see return on the travelling corps. Last campaign, it was reported that Pao spent most of the practice days away from the other members of the goalkeeping unit; in the weeks leading up to the AOCAF Cup, it is being reported he is talking more with Goalkeeping Coach Nishimura Kenshin.

Tsutsama Yen, is a relative newcomer to the multiverse; having a somewhat average season at UA, he came to the National Team tryouts before World Cup 87 and put up some impressive physical numbers through the Combine, and thus found his way onto the Corps. Showing great promise as a younger player, he signed on with Gaoling Union after graduation and has already begun to cement himself as a strong back-up to franchise keeper Mit Wasan’i

With the promotion of Lee Findao to Reserve, the third spot on the Corps was awarded to Tsunade Kise, a young Mandalorian keeper out of Kyoshi State. At 21-years-of-age, he is set to graduate following this campaign cycle, though it is uncertain where he will wind up. Tsunade has shown a similar style to the former Bison Aki Kio’los, and of the three members of the Travelling Corps, he is the most likely to see promotion.

Left Defenders:
16- TERCAR Shuajo
Height: 180cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Mando FC

Tercar Shuajo, who signed a four-year contract with Mando FC after graduating from Northern University, has added 8kg to his frame in muscle, yet still retains his speed. A very quick and agile defender, Tercar uses his feet and agility to outmaneuver most other players instead of relying on sheer mass to take away a ball, a tactic he learned from pairing with Itawaku during exhibition games prior to World Cup 86.

Now into his fourth campaign as starting defender, Tercar is looking to further cement himself into the team. With both Hashimoto Isamiru and Somchai Kikwan both growing older with every passing game, soon it may be time for Tercar to take his speed and agility to the centre of the pitch. Tercar bares the distinction of being one of only two players to score a goal during the last AOCAF – the lone goal against Vilita & Turori on the opening day of the tournament.

Unfortunately for Tercar, an upper body strain took him out of World Cup XC for four games, meaning that should he play during the Cup of Harmony, he will earn his century. However, given his lackluster performances during the final three games of the World Cup, combined with his early substitution during the second Omerica game, it may be unlikely that Tercar plays this tournament.

12- PAM Kai
Height: 183cm - Weight: 86kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Senlin Timbers

Formerly the backup to the Beast of the North, Pam Kai spent five tournaments in the shadow of Itawaku, hoping to one day earn the starting spot from him or to replace him. However, at the tryout camp, it was Tercar Shuajo who shined, and received the Starting Spike from Tay’haai. Following another lackluster season in Senlin, Pam has shown himself to be a perennial backup defender; though this time, he has been kicked out of the limelight by a former classmate and teammate of his from Northern University… One has to wonder how that will play out during the tournament.

26 – Khánh KA’LOMI
Height: 190cm - Weight: 94kg – Age: 23 years old - Team: Island FC

A young Southern Watertribesman who signed a professional contract with Island FC at just 20-years-of-age, Khánh Ka’lomi is already making waves in the Avatarian sports community. With an impressive size for such a young player, many see him as the next Itawaku, and some have already started calling him “The Beast of the South”. In his first season at Island FC, Ka’lomi put up impressive numbers for a defencemen; ending his season with the highest involvement in goals by a defender with 2 goal and 7 assists to go with 6 clean sheets.

In World Cup XC, an upper body strain for Tercar Shuajo would see Ka’lomi moved into the Starting XI, and given the performance of Tercar following that strain, it seems likely that Wong has decided to trust the youthful Watertribesman to fill in and to succeed Pam Kai on the left side.

Not sure how Pam is going to take this one…

Central Defenders
5- HASHIMOTO Isamiru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 75kg – Age: 36 years old - Team: Ba Sing Se UNITED

One of the most highly-rated player for the Bison defence, Hashimoto Isamiru, or “Hashi” as he is loving called by fans, has shown himself to be a very valuable asset to the team. A strong defensive player who often falls in to a full-back position, Hashimoto has made great strides in improving his passing and marking skills since he was traded to Ba Sing Se UNITED from Keldabe FC after a very disappointing season which saw Kelabe not advance to the playoffs for the first time in five years.

However, as time as worn on, so too as age on Hashimoto. Set to turn 37 during the 2021.3 Campaign, many have been calling for Hashi to step down gracefully and retire. However, in previous interviews over the 2021.1 Campaign, Hashimoto has already said he would not even entertain retirement until he had earned his century-and-half cap for the National Team.

We are now seventeen games past that…

15- UTHAN A’den
Height: 185cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 25 years old - Team:FC Beijing

A large and physically imposing player, Uthan A’den does not play a very physical game like Auranaq or Hashimoto, but instead proves himself to be one of the fastest players on the team; one who uses that speed to outpace and overtake many of his opponents. Less prove to tackle and trip, and more likely to simply run up from behind and steal the ball mid-dribble, expect to see Uthan engaging opponents closer to the net than you will be comfortable with from previous Bisons campaigns.

Having reached his century mark during the 6-2 win at home against The Juniper Union during World Cup 88 – and also scoring his first multiverse hat trick – Uthan became one of the youngest players to reach the milemark, following in the footsteps of Akiyama Qiangyu and Bralor Kotyc’e to reach a century before 25.

And given his presence, Uthan is expected to play for a very long time.

15- Ganham Ri’om
Height: 175cm - Weight: 70kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Concord Dusk AFC

Though not as fast as Uthan, Ganham Ri’om is a full-back more focused on the offence, who uses his skill with the ball to often drive the offence from the backfield. Though Ganham can have some minor difficulties when tasked with defence (given that he played his entire career at Hatsu State as a offensive midfielder before switching to defence when drafted), he is a very dedicated player and works hard to improve where he knows there are weakness.

Right Defenders:

3- SOMCHAI Kikwan
Height: 187cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 34 years old - Team: Itakawai City

While certainly not the oldest player in the defence, Somchai Kikwan does serve as the counterpoint to Uthan’s youthful excitement. Having graduated from Kyoshi State, Somchai is very familiar to the style of play Uthan is used to, and the two of them communicate very well on the side of the field. Very adept at playing the middle of the field, when pushed to the right side, Somchai is quick to adapt and has the endurance and stamina to keep up with the demands.

Having made his multiverse debut in World Cup 85, Somchai has continued to play through a nagging lower body injury up until World Cup 90; utlising traditional medicine as well as playing an on-off schedule which allowed Huang Aodhan and Taoru Adeen to gather more experience, Somchai is expected to play the entirety of Cup of Harmony 82.

23- HUANG Aodhán
Height: 183cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 28 years old - Team: Makapu ERUPT

With Mi’rez Yiman retiring, Huang Aodhán would find himself moving up on the list of right defenders. Signed onto a Taap-A team right out of college, Huang was quick to mature and found his way onto the Makapu ERUPT three season ago. A quick study, he adapted well to his new team and soon made it to their starting eleven. Huang is a natural athlete, with impressive speed and stamina to match, and we can expect to see that natural athleticism on display as the tournament wears on and fatigue sets into the Starting Eleven.

15 – Tarou ADEEN
Height: 189cm - Weight: 90kg – Age: 24 years old - Team: Royal Flames

With the retirement of a couple of the Bisons’ core defenders, the Travelling Corps has produced another potential feature player in the form of Tarou Adeen. A product of both the Royal Fire Developmental Programs as well as serving under the tutelage of Fujimoto Zhong at Omashu State, Adeen is sure to see his number called in future tournaments, especially as players like Somchai continue to add years to their career. Though, unlike Somchai, Adeen brings more size to the right; standing at just under 190cm and weighs a little under 90kg. Combine that size with his speed and vision on the pitch, and you have a defender who can knock an opponent off course and redirect a ball to a forward without even lifting his head from his target. As with others in the lower levels of the team, expect to see Adeen as the tournament progresses.

Travelling With the Team

Position	Name Age School / Team Nation |
RD KATO Zhao Ling 23 Enceri FC Mandalorian
RD YAMADA Goro 22 Ba Sing Se UNITED Fire
CD ZHOU Hiroto 22 Concord Dusk AFC Earth

The Travelling Corps for Defense is all small trio of defenders who are all potential future Bisons.

Kato Zhao Ling, who graduated from Enceri University and signed an entry-level two-year contract with FC She Pass, is coming off his first RPFL All-Star selection and a third-place finish in the 2021.1 Season, having been traded to Enceri FC before the end of his contract and signing on an entry-level single-year bridge pending the conclusion of the 2021.3 Season. Yamato Goro surprised the football world upon graduation, having signed with Ba Sing Se over Itakawai; Yamato is certainly being watched to replace either of the aging defencemen in Hashimoto and Somchai. Zhou Hiroto, who helped Kibago University win their third consecutive Earthen Shield tournament in five years, also is vying for an eventual spot on the national roster after signing an entry-level two-year contract with Concord Dusk AFC.

Defensive Midfielders:

7- TAKAHASHI Hikaru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 76kg – Age: 37 years old - Team: Northern AFC

A strong defensive midfielder. Takahashi Hikaru’s strength lies in his kicks; easily able to send a ball soaring across the pitch with surprising accuracy, Takahashi is known for feeding the ball to the strikers and catching many opposing defences off-guard. He often has great vision, and he is easily able to read the play and can adapt accordingly.

Now, Takahashi has to step into a new role, as the oldest player on the team. With the retirement of so many of his fellow over-30 players, some feel the pressure is on Takahashi to produce more in this upcoming World Cup Campaign… or hang up the Number Seven jersey for the last time.

Former Head Coach Tay’haai made the unusual selection of having both of his defensive midfielders come from the same team, for reasons most can ascertain…. And it’s a decision that Interim Head Coach Wong Haru A proven veteran on the pitch, Ma Haijiang complements Takahashi’s strong kicks and accuracy with the speed to overcome most opponents; if he can not strike a ball deep, Takahashi will often send a volley up to Ma who will then run it into the offensive zone before lasering the ball to an open forward. Expect to see either Ma or Takahashi in the assist column for plenty of goals.

Though, now with both players into their 30s, and many calling for younger blood to take the reigns, one has to wonder how much longer the ‘Northern Duo’ will continue to play together… or worse, who will be the first to retire…

17- YOSHIDA Arata
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 31 years old - Team: Royal Flames

Yoshida Arata is a dedicated player who has worked incredibly hard to make his way to the national team; having spent several months training with one of the greatest Avatarian midfielders to ever play the game, Bralor Kotyc’e. Time spent with Bralor has proven to greatly improve his game, seeing Yoshida climb up the ranks during the Trials for the national team. Though he has predominantly been a backup for his entire career thirteen tournaments, Arata has managed to amass ninety-two caps, and given the length of the Cup of Harmony, expected to reach the century during it. The inly question will be whether he reaches that mark as a substitution or as a starter.

Though, Yoshida is not a player you will often notice. He is not one for showboating, and very rarely makes a goal or garnishes an assist. Instead, he focuses his time on the pitch by setting up the offense for a great pass, a decisive tackle that often swings the game’s momentum, or just being able to intercept the ball at the most opportune time. One of the best midfielders in the Southern Conference of the RPFL, Yoshida is sure to see time on the pitch by relieving Takahashi or Ma in the later games of the competition.

Neutral Midfielders:

18- HISAKAWA Si Woo
Height: 183cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 34 years old - Team: Senlin Timbers

An extremely technical midfielder, Hisakawa Si Woo is not one to shy away from trying for goals. More adept at reading the play and setting up his forwards, Hisakawa is a bit more impatient than one would like, and he posseses the speed and agility to run through a good defence and find the back of the net on occasion. He is also the only player on the Bisons who is currently unsigned; his contract with the Taap-A team Omashu Athletic ended after AOCAF LX, and with nothing really to showcase his worth, Omashu Athletic chose to not sign Hisakawa; a fact that has certainly hurt his morale going into the last World Cup. However, an impressive showing, including four goals at WC 85, saw Hisakawa sign a two-year contract with the Senlin Timbers just days after the completion of the group stage.

Attacking Midfielders:

8- YU Shichiro
Height: 183cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 29 years old - Team: Keldabe FC

With a very offensive-minded footballing style, Yu Shichiro works as the last link between the midfield and the offence. Much like Hisakawa, Yu has been known to even advance from the midfield to score quite a few key goals in pivotal games, including the 2019.2 Ve’vut Cup winning goal against Concord Dusk AFC. He has a powerful long shot and is exceptional at heading, both of which are aided by his height. However, as skilled as he is in offense, Yu still prefers to pass the ball up to forwards for an assist in a goal as opposed to being the star player.

11- GUANYU Jun
Height: 185cm - Weight: 81kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Omashu Athletic (Taap-A)
A very creative midfielder, Guanyu Jun is very capable of making plays on the fly; with great vision and quick feet, he often can set up his forwards for a great goal or keep the ball moving through the middle. Though having graduated from Heibai University right after AOCAF, Guanyu, who managed to only appear in a single game during AOCAF, started in the next two World Cups as well as AOCAF 60, before being knocked off his starting position by Yu Shichiro coming into AOCAF 61. Who knows how that will play out, seeing as how many in the sports world see Guanyu as more of a playmaker than Yu and a bit more skilled despite being three years his junior.

14 – Fei’kao SONG
Height: 185cm - Weight: 81kg – Age: 26 years old - Team: FC Mando

Relatively young when compared to his teammates, Fei’kao Song chose to forgo his collegiate career, getting drafted by FC Mando the day before his twentieth birthday. Despite all the fanfare of his first season behind him, Song has not had a promising start to his sophomore season. Given his still-developing skills in midfield, his is seen as a comparatively weak player and often spends more time with the coaching staff than other more-seasoned players. Song, much like Hisakawa, is a technical player by nature whose greatest asset is not in his aim or power, but in the art of dribbling which he uses at every opportunity. While more prone to provide assists on plays as opposed to goals, Song has proven himself through Trials to Tay’haai and earned a spot on the National Team, albeit a reserve position.

DM Kal ITOWA 25 FC Beijing Water
NM Penlu SAITO 22 Omashu Fire
OM SHAO Mi’ka 24 Solus FC Water
OM DIK Up’lis 23 Northern AFC Earth

Mostly comprised of Water Tribesmen, the Midfield Travelling Corps is a grabbag of talent. From the University of the Northern Tribes come home-grown Inoue Anernerk, who at just like his father, the famed Inoue Kuruk, completed back-to-back double-digit scoring seasons in his last two seasons of college; impressive for a man who is supposed to be on the defensive midfield. From UST, Kal Itowa mirrors the success of Inoue, though a career less filled with goals and more with assists. Penlu Saito, a young player from the developmental Chomain State Academy, hopes to see a professional contract within the year, and with such a great season in the ADFL, you can be sure he will at least entertain some good offers. Out of the University of Kibago, Shao Mi’ka is a relatively quiet player who has had offers from both Gaoling Union and Senlin Timbers. Dik Up’lis rounds out the Travelling Corps, bringing from Omashu State a drive for excellence many teams would love to have, even if it comes with a bit more maturing to be fostered.

9 - Dag’da SKIRATA
Height: 185cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 27 years old - Team: Ba Sing Se UNITED

From the fabled and illustrious Skirata family, Dag’da Skirata continues to show why the Skirata’s are the most famous Avatarian family in sports; from his grandfather Kad coaching the Men’s National Ice Hockey Team to his father A’den’s 59 goals in 190 caps for the Bisons, Dag’da has some massive shoes to fill. Though his youthful energy often times shows itself in classic mistakes, Skirata is able to power his way through many the defender and be it by foot or by head, he finds the net more often than not. Earning his century in the abysmal Cup of Harmony 79, Skirata hopes to redeem himself in the next campaign set to begin in Atlantian Oceania. In-between the 2021.1 and 2021.2 Campaigns, Skirata has shocked much of the Avatarian Sports world, forgoing the expected signing with his hometown FC Itakawai and signing with their interleague rival Ba Sing Se United for an undisclosed amount; however, the six-year contract is likely one of the most expensive to be signed in recent memory.

Skirata managed to score his one-hundreth goal in World Cup 90; the go-ahead and eventual winning goal against Damukuni on matchday ten. Four more goals throughout the tournament showed that he has put the dryspell of World Cup 89 behind him, and he is looking to increase those numbers in the Cup of Harmony.

10 - SONG Kaoru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 74kg – Age: 29 years old - Team: FC Mando

Much like Skirata, Song Kaoru comes from a sports-centric family; with his father a coach in the RPFL, his mother a third-line winger for the Ice Bisons and his younger brother the star goalkeeper for Itakawai City, fans and critics have come to expect nothing but greatness from Song. They have certainly not been disappointed in domestic play, with Song showing a near-effortless game on the pitch. Dodging defenders as if they were standing still, sniping balls past nets which might as well have been empty, Song has quickly become the media’s favorite player... especially with how he loves to be interviewed.

Older than both of the starting forwards, Li Yuuta also finds himself the oldest member of the Forward Corps. Playing the last six seasons in Island FC, Li has continued to develop as a well-rounded secondary striker; able to shield the ball from the other team and hold them off long enough for either of the Bisons’ primary stikers to get into position for a great shot. Li is very adept at striking himself, having led Island FC in Goals Scored last season.

A seasoned pivot man through five seasons at Island FC, Kim Vinh Lành is known for his ability to read the pitch and place himself ahead of a ball to bring in an attempt --- even if the pass is terrible --- through his excellent ball-handling skills. Albeit not the most conditioned player, with stamina that often finds him at the back of the pack during running exercises, Kim makes up for his endurance with incredibly fast bursts to the goal.

Head Coach: WONG Haru
Height: 185cm – Weight: 88kg – Age 51 years old – Team: FC Itakawai, Assistant General Manager

Once a star defender for the Bisons, following his retirement from national and multiverse play, Wong Haru made a name for himself with a brief stint in coaching professionally; first as a Defensive Coach for Solus FC for two years and then FC She Pass for another four. However, when Wakahisa Hikaru – whose infamous knee injury in the championship game for the Republic Chalice brought the nation to tears and ended his professional career – called Wong, as the General Manager for FC Itakawai, to hand him the reigns of the infamous team right when they shifted ownership, it was a call Wong could not pass up. Being the head coach of one of the RPFL’s best teams for nearly 8 years truly honed his knowledge of the game as well as his abilities to analyze and coach players to greatness, all before he was promoted within to the role of Assistant General Manager under Wakahisa. After being both a player, a captain, positional coach, head coach, and assistant general manager, the only two roles left for Wong were to be either the National Team Head Coach, and the President of the ALAF. Thanks to Tay’haai - who brought Wong on as the assistant coach for the team back at the start of his tenure - one goal was finally achieved.

Height: 190cm – Weight: 82kg – Age 37 years old
Following the retirement of Wen Wuchin after the 85th World Cup, the much-younger Doctor Fong Jintao replaced the “Ol’Doc” as he was so lovingly referred to as by the team. Having served through the Grand Army of the Republic, Doctor Fong is a veritable successor to the Ol’Doc’s history as the last member of the Old Guard – all staff appointed by former-Head Coach and now Director Boba Vhett. When not travelling with the team, Fong carries the rank of Captain, First Class and serves in the 501st Legion in the First Territorial Army, stationed in Republic City; specifically, he is a resident Surgeon within the Third Avatarian Guard, and is seen as a competitor for the soon-to-be-vacated position of Head Assistant Surgeon in the Capital Medical Facility, thanks to another former member of the Old Guard retiring from that post.

A clone officer within the Grand Army of the Republic, RC-4868 was appointed Chief of Security for the National Team in 2011.1. Each time the team travels abroad --- so long as he is not engaged in a mission --- RC-4868 is pulled from service and placed into the spotlight of security. He is battle-hardened, having been raised since birth for war and combat, and as such often views these assignments with true boredom. The seven men he brings with him on assignment share the same sentiments of the ‘mission’, however, their ‘unwaivering loyalty’ to the Republic prevents any negative speak during the assignment. Each is a member of the Avatarian Guard, whose sole responsibility is to defend the Avatar at both home and abroad; this protection then extends to all sports teams travelling beyond the borders of the Five Nations.

Director of the National Team & President of the ALAF: HIS RIGHT HONOURABLE VHETTBoba

Once the longest serving Head Coach in Avatarian History – with a record spanning 261 games, ten World Cups and multiple other multiverse competitions – it was only right for Vhett to step into the role of President of the Avatarian Leagues of Association Football. Having brought a team from nothing to the quarterfinals in 8 World Cups is not something to look away from, and although his career was tarnished slightly by the final performances of the Bisons – going 5-7-1 in his last World Cup – Vhett is confident that soon glory will be returned to the Avatarian Republics, although initial performances in all seven tournaments to date have been far from promising.

┤ PRIMARY FORMATION ├

Image

While under Tay’haai and Vhett, the Bisons utilized the modern standard of the 4-4-2 Formation. Giving the Bisons a strong midfield presence while pairing two quick strikers – in the last cup being Skirata and Song Kaoru – the 4-4-2 allowed many of the Bison games to keep low goals for an opponent while giving them a chance to rack up high goals.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t always the case…

Under Head Coach Wong Haru, the Bisons are changing up their usual style and taking out the second forward and replacing them with a stronger midfield presence in what is known as a 4-5-1 Formation. Usually taken by teams wanting to secure a lead, the 4-5-1 is often seen as a more ‘defensive minded’ formation. The extra midfielder – in this case Hisakawa Si Woo – often will float between a defensive position and a support position for the remaining forward. In choosing the speed of Skirata over the accuracy of Song Kaoru, Interim Coach Wong is giving up offensive capability to shore up defence. Especially considering that Song was the lead goal-scorer in the last World Cup, the focus on a slightly-younger Skirata may be a look to the future and keep Song on standby should the offence need a boost.

Expect to see the two men swapped out from game to game until the team solidifies. Of course, in a tournament with just four games, the team may not be able to completely figure out its new strategy in quick-enough fashion.

While initially slow to show promise, the new strategy of the Bisons, it was during the last campaign that the Bisons came into their own during both the AOCAF the Cup of Harmony, where the Bisons advanced out of the Group Stage in both tournaments for the first time since The Silence.

If only they could put that success into the World Cup

DUMO HOM CCAHOR MAKE INTERNATIONAL DEBUT
Efnak national stars begin AOCAF Cup journey

Image
Projected Starting Lineup

Makara Katem, JABAL AKHDAR CITY, Jabal Akhdar – Efnakia competes in its first competitive international football match tomorrow, as the Blue and Golds take on the Blue Foxes of Pacitalia.

Pacitalia is a historically successful nation within Atlantian Oceania, having been crowned champions of the AOCAF Cup 10 times, with their last championship coming in AOCAF Cup 40 Having gone on an extended hiatus from international competition, they made their return at AOCAF Cup 64, and competed at AOCAF Cup 65, drawing twice and losing twice to finish bottom of Group E. The Blue Foxes enter the tournament as the second-weakest seed of the group, behind AOCAF Cup 65 quarterfinalists Tropicorp and the host nation and quarterfinalist from that competition Baker Park.

Jabal Akhdar, a nation on the other side of the Great Western Continent from Efnakia, is predominantly a desert nation, with temperatures and humidity similar to that of southern Efnakia throughout the coastal areas of the country and far higher temperatures in the desert interior. Tens of thousands of Efnaks have already made the journey to the host nation, many of whom even without tickets to the matches, but supported by Government-sponsored programs for cheap flights to Jabal Akhdar City through Def Efnak and Efnak Ccadaem Kadef (ECK). Those fans are first travelling to the site of the Dumo Hom Ccahor’s first match, the newly planned city of Al-Jasab in the [DIRECTION UNDETERMINED] of the country, and home to the 64,000 capacity Al-Jasab International Stadium. As one of the friendlier cities within Jabal Akhdar to tourists (as Tedok has been notified by Akhdari government sources & official reports), a large and potentially partisan crowd will certainly be on display to see the national team finally appear in a foreign land.

In later matches, the Dumo Hom Ccahor will play Baker Park, World Cup 90 co-hosts and quarterfinalists and second best team in Atlantian Oceania, at Al-Bareqbah Stadium in Uqaidr, before finishing the group stage in the outskirts of the capital at Haiyyil Iconic Stadium in Haiyyil against Tropicorp, a state that nobody here at Tedok seems to fully understand the structure of outside of their competence at football.

All AOCAF Cup matches will be aired live (in Efnak) on MMSsE1, with the first match against Pacitalia kicking off at 2pm local time, and prematch coverage beginning at noon. English-language coverage will appear on MMSsE3, with prematch coverage beginning at 1pm.

The Blue Foxes returned to international football competition for the first time in over twenty-four cycles at AOCAF Cup 64. In those previous two appearances the team has exited at the group stage. The national team, despite its long absence, continues to hold the all-time record number of titles won at 10, a level of achievement that remains unmatched in the AOCAF Cup and in any other senior international association football tournament, including the World Cup. Pacitalia enters the tournament ranked twenty-fifth in AO, down one place from AOCAF Cup 65, though due to some higher-ranked nations not qualifying for this cup, the Foxes are actually seeded twenty-first and are the third-ranked squad in Group 4. Expectations for the team remain as miniscule as ever.

Bluefox has long coveted a partnership with the national side given the kinship of the company name to the football squad — both named for the national animal. Team captain Hermès Adiarche and his alternates will take cues from Galileo using specialized foxPads. Traditionalists argue the FGCP is watering down the game by handing the team reins over to a computer that can't walk the pitch sideline, but the Federation has countered saying two "assistant coaches" will remain in place to monitor the computer's decision-making throughout matches and have the right to veto any decisions that are deemed unusual. Galileo features 144 teraflops of processing power and is housed in a state-of-the-art Faraday cage at the Tishman Dorigatti Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence on the AEST campus in Timiocato.

The squad

** Denotes likeliest starter per position
C Denotes team captain
† Denotes reserve player or recent national call-up not officially named to the 23-man squad
(NB: only notable reserves and call-ups will have a short bio)

Forwards

** 11 Gianmarco Zolà (age 26)
Zolà is not the first member of his family to play for his country at an international competition. Avid international football fans will recall Gianmarco's uncle Abro as the long-time starting keeper for the Blue Foxes, backstopping the Pacitalian side to its first championships. Zolà is a ballhawk whose speed and knack for getting space from defenders may frustrate opponents on the counterattack.

15 Damone Rosso (age 26)
Previously the most common starting forward in the Blue Foxes' 4-2-3-1 formations, Rosso has found himself somewhat usurped by the more talented Zolà in the last couple of years. Known for trademark brilliant strikes from outside the penalty area at the club level that have made him a fan favourite, Rosso has struggled to translate that form to the international arena.

12 Vincenzo Corvidasso (age 22)
A relatively recent addition to the national side for Pacitalia, Corvidasso has shown quite a lot of promise as a versatile, two-way striker who can create chances in front of goal. All three of his international goals to date have been off headers. If Pacitalia struggles early, manager Galileo may lean on Corvidasso as a frequent substitute.

21 Xabi Ferrán (age 31)
Xabi has been a hit-or-miss choice for several years with questions about his fitness as early as 2012. His most noticeable decline in form came after the Foxes' last title in AOCAF Cup 40. He had the good fortune of studying under all-time leading Pacitalian scorer Ambrosino Giurimano, but has been eclipsed by younger upstarts like Zolà and Rosso. He was officially demoted off the 23-man squad in 2019 and has only appeared since on occasional call-ups.

Attacking midfielders

** 9 Guillermo (Memo) Sánchez (age 24)
Memo's placement up the left side for the Blue Foxes will be designed to take advantage of the young Marquerian's arcing left-footed crosses into the box. Sánchez is also the team's most proficient corner taker from both sides of goal and should be able to reliably provide accurate deliveries near goal. Football experts have often remarked on the similarities in chemistry between Mau and Memo to the partnership between former national stars Michelangelo Mascagnano and Andolfabio Vunghiasso.

** 10 Mau Camp i Armengol (age 23)
Unquestionably the keystone of the Pacitalian side, Mau has already cemented his place as the next standard-bearer of the Blue Foxes. Despite only being 22, he led Il Premerato in scoring for three straight seasons, and won a league title with his club 1865 Fontevella before earning a transfer to Vilitan club Jaguar Moreda. He is the quarterback of the national team, able to cover wide swathes of the mid-pitch and coordinate both the attacking and defending strategy.

** 8 Dario Formetti (age 27)
The most senior of the three most likely starting front midfielders, Formetti is very much a physical presence, tall and very muscular. Somewhat of the national side's playboy, Formetti has gotten as much attention during matches for his rough tackling as he has off the pitch with his social media, full of shirtless photos and workout tips, alongside videos of him partying and womanizing. There is, however, no doubt, that he's undeniably talented and works extremely hard to keep his place in the starting XI.

16 Cristián Piqué (age 32)
One of the holdovers from the starting XI from AOCAF Cup 40, Piqué has spent equal time in the starting eleven and on the bench as a substitute in recent years as he ages. He still retains much of the speed and fitness of his younger years, and robo-manager Galileo remains a big fan of Piqué's intelligent, patient passing and dribbling skills. It will be looking to Piqué to provide mentorship and calm as the younger stars dip a first toe in the figurative waters of the tournament.

20 Benjamín Madero (age 29)
Madero had a brief spell in the starting eleven through the mid-2010s, though the entirety of that time was in meaningless matches at the beginning of the "Dark Ages", when the Pacitalian government eliminated funding for international competitive sport programs. As a result, Madero is largely seen as untested at the international level and could see more playing time than expected, especially if hopes for progression out of the group stage fade early.

26 Marcangelo Bettero (age 28)
Bettero is a chippy midfielder who has a similar boundary-pushing style to Formetti. His "mind game" style of play, annoying opponents with messy tackling and vulgarities, often earns him cautions or yellows from the referee, and this undisciplined style does not mesh well with his manager's overall strategy.

28 Damiano Arzurossi (age 21)
Another promising midfield talent with high potential, football watchers are generally in agreement that a more permanent place in the starting XI is an inevitability. Damiano has been an offensive factory for the Blue Foxes in his 18 appearances, with a goals-per-match ratio almost on par with superstar teammate Mau. Like Madero, though for different reasons, Galileo may give him above-average minutes and an opportunity to shine.

25 Robel Bordeianu (age 22)

Defensive midfielders

** 6 Nikolaos Armaou (age 24)
As the only member of the Greco-Pacitalian community in the starting eleven, Armaou is a source of immense pride among the estimated 35 million Pacitalians of Greek descent. Armaou is often the unsung workhorse of the Pacitalian side, but with a commendable level of goal-scoring in his own right. He has an innate ability to get under balls delivered into the box off corners and free kicks and this sixth sense should be of great use to the Blue Foxes.

** 7 Aber Garza (age 29)
Anchoring the back-right midfield, Garza is equally as resolute as his left-side counterpart Armaou, often chided as a "stick in the mud" for his ability to stay on his feet and pull off gravity-defying loops around opposing players. Garza relies on a combination of below-average height and a stocky build to centre himself during high-intensity play, providing a first line of defence for the Blue Foxes up the right flank.

14 Ando Figarache (age 23)

24 Marco Scarruffo (age 22)

Fullbacks

** C 2 Hermès Adiarche (age 34)
One of the greatest fullbacks in Pacitalian history, Adiarche has captained the Blue Foxes since 2017. He is arguably the heart and soul of the side, the second-most capped player behind his goalkeeper and a steady presence on the back line. Galileo will lean heavily on Adiarche's leadership and direction in the Pacitalian half of the pitch.

** 4 Kiko Rodríguez (age 23)
The most promising defensive talent of the next generation in Pacitalia, Kiko may very well be the heir to the back-line throne. Praised for his game maturity and his calm, level approach, Kiko almost never shows panic or concern even during bad stretches of play, earning himself the nickname "the serious one" from his teammates at the club level. He is regarded as a generational centre back and will likely see a career-defining moment or two at AOCAF Cup 65.

** 3 Mauro Girometta (age 28)
Girometta was a standout performer both in university football and for the national under-21 squad but had a rough transition to senior international competition, often at odds with managers and goalkeepers during defensive breakdowns. His continued place in the starting eleven was seen to be at risk toward the late 2010s but he has seen a resurrection of sorts in the past 18 months and is now a reliable fixture of the first team.

** 17 Drağan Mihaiescu (age 26)
Often as unpredictable as Girometta and as temperamental as Bettero, Mihaiescu's playing time is set to increase as Galileo makes the talented fullback the anchor of the back right side. In a pinch, Mihaiescu's brilliantly clean tackling skills may come in handy. The modelling prefers Mihaiescu's agility over previous starting right-back Seriesta.

18 Angelos Gavridis (age 24)
Injury-prone Gavridis has battled numerous calf and hamstring problems and may have otherwise seen more playing time in the tournament in place of the aging Seriesta or the unpredictable Girometta. But Galileo may not be willing to chance it for Gavridis' sake, especially as the FC Nero Sapuntoli centre back has enjoyed a relatively fit stretch of his career in recent months.

5 Aurelio Seriesta (age 36)
Historically opposite Adiarche at right-back is the other "anchor" of the defensive back four and a man just as legendary a name in football lore. Seriesta has been part of seven of the ten championship winning teams Pacitalia has fielded, dating back to AOCAF Cup 30. He has been just as much a fixture in league competition with a long, storied career at Astograthian club Echegoyan FC before returning to Foringana to captain the Scandonian club Ravens Poortendam. However, Seriesta, at 36, is beginning to get a bit long in the tooth and Galileo's modelling prefers the younger Mihaiescu to start.

29 Josep Mora (age 30)
The lanky, agile Empordian is the substitute fullback most likely to see playing time — or even start for the Blue Foxes at some point. Mora has been biding his time largely on the bench as he usually slots in most effectively on the left wing, a position consistently occupied by his captain. He has not been as effective down the middle, or the opposite side of the pitch, so if Adiarche remains healthy, the only other plausible option for Mora to slot into would be in place of Armaou in midfield.

19 Donatello Ferragni (age 20)

23 Taddeo Marzonero (age 20)

30 Balo Braga de Souza (age 22)

31 Ilyas Albayrak (age 22)

32 Agustín Lardizábal (age 21)

Goalkeepers

** 2 Ander Bera (age 31)
The most-capped player in Pacitalian history, Bera is a ruthless penalty killer with phenomenal goal IQ, Bera serves as alternate captain to Adiarche. He could be the difference-maker in tight matches, as the Foxes rely on his record 102 league and 54 international career clean sheets.

27 Paolo Corasetto (age 22)
Liking what it's seen from Corasetto in league action — play good enough to earn the young keeper a transfer to a Vilitan club — Galileo bumped the inconsistent Demirtas out of the primary backup role and has named Corasetto in the elder keeper's place. If Bera's recent struggles to remain healthy continue through Cup 66, Corasetto could see some action.

22 Emin Demirtas (age 33)
The other half of Pacitalia's reliable pair of keepers has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with his counterpart Bera for the better part of the last decade. While Bera has earned more caps and is the unquestionable starter, Demirtas' time in net for his country is nothing to laugh at. The passionate Demirtas is a fan favourite whose struggles in place of Bera largely led to the Foxes crashing out of AOCAF Cup 65 despite a promising start to the group stage.

BP National Team return to action in Jabal Akhdar
Scott McCrae
The Daily Mail Chief Soccer Writer

The Commonwealth National Team are prepping for their first match in the 66th AOCAF Cup against Tropicorp at the Hofusha Stadium in Jabal Akhdar City amid the discussions in certain media circles about the roster that has been selected.

This will be the final tournament for many of those who were believed to have taken their final bows in the World Cup; co-captains DeAngelo Simmons and Kelly O'Donnell, Reggie Laing, Derion Hutchins, Gabby Jordan and Junior Ngoba are all near or past their 30th birthdays, and they will lead a squad that has a mix of solid vets and up & comers in what Darren Kirby, the NT Assistant Manager who will move over to the number 1 role for this competition, calls "an advanced level course for the younger ones (players) ahead of the next World Cup cycle".

CBC Soccer Night studio analyst Aiden Donnan expressed bewilderment at the choices made for the this roster, noting that this tournament is usually the place where a changing of the guard begins.
"I don't think Kirby being given a chance to lead the team is a problem, and I'm happy that some of the players I think will be the superstars of tomorrow are getting some more experience. But for the most senior players, they aren't getting anything out of this. No one is just a little short of a milestone or record and none of them lack something on their career CV. I just think it takes away a couple of weeks from some of the younger players who are still bantams in the NT pool."

Following their quarterfinal appearances in the last regional and World Cup, BP have risen to #2 in the AOCAF rankings behind only defending champions Valanora; the Bees will have to defeat Banija or Vilita & Turori, plus the host nation in the upper half of the bracket if they want to add a second AOCAF title to the portfolio, to say nothing of the other two group opponents Efnakia and Pacitalia.

Kirby will lead a squad for the first time since the 10th Under-18 Championships, and will be assisted by Elaine King, FAC Director of Goalkeeper Development, who will be getting her first chance to be on staff in a role other than training the netminders; Ryan Zavaros, Fredrica Baptiste and Rich Gabriel round out the coaching staff that will oversee a squad that includes 6 players with ten or fewer caps--Magda Kucera, Jerrol Allen, Park Jae-Sung, Luke Olivera, Serena McDavid and Kyle Baum, plus another 5 with fewer than 20--Lucie Shanahan, Paul Vetter, Rod Callaway, Olivia Ryan, & Carly Logan.

Travis Grimaldi and Victor Onikambe come back into the squad after being left off the WC roster, along with Amy Reynolds, Julia Edmonds, Kerrie Price and Chandra Mack, while Kelsey Vickers will wear the #1 shirt.
