Ke Ccafoksablem Fall in Home Opener
Romero hits three as Binturongs sail home after kicking battle

Mesas Kaddoho – BADFEKNA, Ssedbam

A capacity crowd in the Mafo Badfekna were in attendance as Constantinople University became the first foreign college football team to play a match in Efnakia, defeating the Ke Ccafoksablem 23-6 during a match which lasted almost four hours due to weather delays accompanying storms during the first half.

Badfekna took their first lead of the season on the first drive, as a grinding drive and long run by slotback Dunddas Katot’a put senior kicker Mabddosmot’ Kaccess in range for a chip-shot field goal. Constantinople wouldn’t answer back until three minutes left in the first quarter, as they executed Badfekna’s offense better than the Ke Ccafoksablem could themselves as quarterback Joshua Gonzales faked a pass before diving in for an 8-yard touchdown run.

It was all Constantinople from that point on, as a fumble on an end-around by freshman wide receiver Apffo Kakamno was picked up by Constantinople’s Johann Vincent and ran in to extend the Binturongs’ lead to 11. The Ke Ccafoksablem were held to a standstill for the remainder of the half, as Constantinople went on another 7-minute drive, interrupted by a delay of almost an hour and a half due to lightning strikes to the north of the stadium, and capped off with a 24-yard field goal for junior kicker Cody Romero.

The Binturongs began the second half exactly as they began, by going on a drive of almost 9 minutes but again stopped on the goal line by the Ke Ccafoksablem defense, with free safety Ssom Kaccueb making an excellent touchdown-saving tackle on a fourth-down Gonzales run. A fumble six plays later gave Constantinople possession yet again, though, with an excellent sack on a second down pass by middle linebacker Mebol Kaser forcing a 48-yard make from Romero. The Ke Ccafoksablem would finally hit back at the end of the third, with Kaccess making an excellent 53-yard kick in increasingly heavy rain to cut the lead to 14.

The two-score lead wouldn’t last for long, though, as a grinding drive on a gradually muddying pitch led to a 30-yard field goal from Romero, his fourth of the night, with 11 minutes left in the game. That would be where the scoring stopped, as weather conditions made it increasingly difficult for either team to move it down the field, and both seemed content with the result at hand.

Next up for the Ke Ccafokasablem is a trip to New Gesem to play the 1-1 University of Alexandroupolis Redbirds in Redbird Stadium (4pm, MMSsE6).

Badfekna Ssoknar Lanom Ke Ccafoksablem (0-2) 6, Constantinople University Binturongs (1-1) 23

OOC: Hopefully will put together a loose storyline for Benoit Youngblood's recruitment saga.

The Mathletes - Scientific, Literary Venue of Sports Journalism

Long Road Culminating Into Big Steps Made for Avon-Gillespie QB Benoit Youngblood

Julia Sestito

VIOLET HILL, Aca. - It was only a year and half ago when Benoit O'Malley Youngblood, a backup quarterback, was without a single scholarship offer. That very summer, as Benoit approached his junior season of high school, Benoit and his teachers at Avon-Gillespie School decided to work around postsecondary pathways.

There was no doubt that Benoit, whose limited tape was looked into by his coaches and college scouts, held solid promise. He has solid frame (6'2, 190 lbs), excellent GPA (4.3 GPA just before grade 12), and did not find himself at particular attachment to one region (mother teaches at University of Kingston on the other side of the country, while father commutes to Quebec City and Aeropag from Kingston). So why no recruitment?

'It's a tricky thing with prep schools, and we all gotta think about it from recruiting standpoint as a college coach,' Avon-Gillespie coach Oh Sang-Eun commented. 'He was a very good player, but the depth chart had meant that JVs had ranks and seniors had different ones too and he had a slightly difficult time adjusting. So timing had to come very handy in order for a lot of these kids to come, especially since there can be discrepancies between prep schools now and then. You get usual prep kids playing ball with those with scholarships.'

Of course, a lot had changed since then. In two seasons since coming back from the summer off, Youngblood's led Avon-Gillespie to 23-2 record and back-to-back state championships in Acadie's 4A preparatory class, and he is probably the biggest name to have remained uncommitted this late into his senior year. His recruiting profile, generally agreed as a top 2 prospect to come out of Quebec this season, looks to be as high as ever, with 24 programs sending an offer to him.

In recent months, he has mostly spent time making official visits to his top 5 domestic choices on own. Just last week he's visited Queen's College, his brother's alma mater where his sister-in-law Johannie Parker now coaches; Saguenay State, his mother Emma O'Malley's alma mater; and Southern Manitoba, a west coast historic powerhouse looking to add to a top-3 recruiting class.

Benoit is set to visit St. Croix on this saturday on an official visit to meet the coaching staff, tour the campus and the facilities. The Bleu et Blanc have been very optimistic about the pro-styled passer, who is actually familiar to the campus thanks to his sister, St. Croix alumna Eloise who studied at Arlenia College for her undergraduate degree.

'I am very happy about making a visit to St. Croix. They were one of the first schools to offer me a scholarship back in my junior year,' said Youngblood, 'My sister, who is a Judoka on the national team, played for them and did a dual-degree with them and IRSEA, so I've heard a lot about how great the institution is over there in Quebec City. The school's one of the best in the world, the program they have in Quebec City is amazing, and of course the facilities and quality of life that can be afforded is no doubt top-class.'

While sounding very much calculated on surface, Youngblood is an individual whose demeanour, preparedness and understanding of the game continue to amaze us. After coming from not really being considered for college level football, Youngblood has moved up by miles on each and every step he's made, and even with amazing junior (27 touchdowns and 3300 yards thrown) and senior seasons (went 41/47, 571 yards and 5 TDs thrown in state final, his final game as an Golden Gopher), he remains committed to making the rest of his time more than just about college football.

'He certainly knows the value of being a good student,' Avon-Gillespie offensive coordinator Evander Moss said. 'One of the things that we, as not only coaches and teachers (writer's note: all secondary school coaches are required to hold teacher certifications in Acadie province) but also their life mentors, mention is to not think of this just as a matter of life and death. Laurent is exactly the student who knows that well. He studies hard, he is sociable, a leader of fellow boys and girls, and respects his elders. Somebody who has the confidence to succeed at next level.'

'Being a quarterback also means being a coordinator and leader. No matter how successful Deondre Rhine can get, people will prefer Sarai Gwenderyn because the intangibles latter brings to the deck are much higher. That's what he has really built up over the years of growing up quietly and away, and also with us.'

This is a good sign in this day and age of gridiron recruiting, especially as the international recruiting season approaches. The recent years of NSCF football have seen the rise of international recruiting cycles where prospects, who come from different backgrounds and profiles, are openly coveted by many of the biggest programs in the Multiverse.

With the international recruiting market open - some more open than others - we have seen a brave, new world when it comes to recruits. Gone are the days when holes in the domestic talent pool, or the loss of a recruiting race, had meant that many of these programs had a particularly glaring hole to face. Now they could solve this partly through diligent recruiting processes involving many, and the high school prospects, vast majority of them among the best in their nation, have more options on hand as well.

'It does add a bit more intrigue to the recruiting storylines in recent years,' commented Antoine Messina, the True North Sports commentator who has covered high school football in Acadie, Gaspesie and Newfoundland provinces over the years. 'Not everybody will commit right away and they shouldn't either. Having a careful think about where you wanna go, now that you have more options available, is a perfectly reasonable thing. And the programs also have to think a bit about that and be flexible with their options in case things don't work out. Also why we have graduate transfers moving internationally these days.'

This certainly applies to Youngblood's case, especially as it is not common for a Quebecois quarterback this high of calibre, save for a rare exception like Octavien Seo-Brousseau just two years ago, to not make a decision this late into his senior year. As Avon-Gillespie School staff and students were asked over and over again, a media ban was placed on campus grounds to ensure that Benoit, senior prefect representing Salmond House, would not be disrupted from his studies and duties as student.

In part his teammates also had a bit of comments to leave about the situation. 'Benoit's mind isn't really about where he wants to go just yet, especially if he's considering options abroad because taking a prep year and whatnot at home's still possible under said scenario,' commented Avon-Gillespie defensive tackle Fernando Jardim, who has announced his commitment to St-Gabriel-Richard in January. 'In the end, he wants what's best for his time as a student, and he knows that the doors will open for him as long as he's good at it.'

To be continued...

"Hey! We signed up for this"

"What's this?"

"College football"

"We have enough world building for colleges?"

"No, we have enough world building for one college, the military college"

"Oh that makes sense"

"If this is the first RP shouldn't it then be the roster post?"

"It will be but what makes you think a newspaper is going to report on an unpopular sport like college gridiron"

"Ok fair enough"

"So we're just going to get to this right?"

"Yeah there's nothing like posting a roster after MD2"

"After?"

"Yeah Tzavah has already played two games"

"Oh dear"

"Look Nega Milchama CTE'd in the middle of CAFA after advancing to octos, it's been a month"

"Really"

"Yeah, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but my god has it been a tunnel"

"We should probably stop playing therapist and start posting a roster"

"Oh yeah we should do that"

"Cool, here we go!"

"PS: No descriptions at all, just make it up and of course name at the top is the starter"

Also please remember that this team exclusively runs the triple option. 5 passes a games is high and 10 means something has gone terribly terribly wrong.

MD3
Twin Cities High School 17–6 Lanar Central High School
Pelar High School 13–3 Rainbow Central High School
Tears of the Revolution High School 54–39 Lanar High School
Summary: No undefeated teams through the first three games of the season, though the Hurons appear dangerous as ever despite conceding twenty-nine points to the Bikers in the second game away at Lanar High School. Rainbow Central has the best defense - Henri Jefferson leading the team with thirty-six tackles so far - while Twin Cities has been playing close games as well. With the fact that Tears of the Revolution High scored fifty-four on Lanar - four Touchdowns being scored by the defense - anyone and everyone can win. The Diamond Conference was not in the top fifteen, so this parity makes sense.

North Sanar High School 26–17 Jerome A. Samuelson High School

Summary: South Sanar showed everyone what they could do by taking down their rivals - Xavier Widdle scoring a pair of touchdowns against the Riflemen - but then fell flat on the face against the Peregrines as Eddie Paul led the way to four rushing touchdowns on the ground for often overlooked Junior RB Terrance Peterman. North Sanar, to their benefit, recovered, taking down the Masterminds to remain near the top of the conference, despite their defense having given up fifty points. The Riflemen don't look as dominating as usual, but it's in clutch moments that the team thrives, so fans shouldn't get too worried.

Summary: While the Anacondas are flying high - Victor Rowles looks as sharp as ever - it's surprising Randan that sit tied for second place, after Lyle "The Hammer" Zokia had a masterful performance against the Glaciers of Winter Heights, leading all players with nineteen tackles and four forced fumbles in the bruising victory. Z'ai'ai Central Hooligans fell to Winter Heights in Week One, but will be looking to throw off the Anacondas; the Abominable Snowmen have been very unlucky in their play so far, with some narrow losses. Time is running out if they want to contend for teh Conference.

Summary: The Scorpions and the Order run this conference, though with Pùr Equestrian tripping up East Shantarr in Matchday 3, who knows what'll come of the conference as a whole. The breakout star so far has been West Shantarr WR Enox Silverman, who has five receiving touchdowns on the year already;
Dragon High School seems a bit more put together than expected, with Andy Kolar shining with five interceptions so far on the season.

Summary: Take a bow, Wizards. Despite having an offense that is underwhelming at best, the City of Lorentine High School's defense has been stout, and the team was able to take down Cheonju High School via a late defensive score to stay perfect. That same Cheonju high School had hung fifty-seven on Lorentine Central the week prior, with CB Carolyn Jones scoring on two defensive touchdowns; the Red Devils of Cheonju Korean Institute, having recovered from losing to the Wizards in the first matchday, hang in there with a shot at second place still. Lorentine Central might be the worst team in the entire country, having only scored nine points so far - what a mess that the Majestics are in.

Summary: It's a dog eats dog world at the top of the Wildlife Conference, with four different teams at 2-1; the most impressive of them has to be the Shipmen, with Declan Hammond running roughshod over opposing defenses; they did lose to the Flying Jellyfish, who's been leaning on the duo of Kyra Bones and Aurana Mikel. East Rhoni, on the other hand, has managed that record despite losing by thirty-two against the Shipmen; the Kayaks have Evan Jerome to thank them for the wins. It's crazy that Pride Academy are at 0-3 despite scoring 98 points; Mikkela Ansoli is doing everything she possibly can, but to no avail.

Summary: What happened to West Rhoni? Despite all their talent, they were held at bay by Coast Guard Academy in a match where Senior Quarterback Jake Lehomme managed to sneak it in right at the end of the game. Then, in overtime. J. H. Yadasky High School RB Isaiah Candy scored in overtime, and the Heroes' defense harried Isaiah Hunter to the loss. The Warhawks managed to throttle Compass Coastal Academy in the third game to manage to salvage a victory, but the top of the conference belongs to the Coastal Academy of the Arts Sculptures, who have surprised everyone with the even play of QB Reese Sand; the Heroes and the Guards both have negative point differentials; this conference is ultimately upside down.

Anchors Academy 27–3 Pier High School
Myana Central High School 30–33 Myana Southeastern High School
Summary: Is this conference stacked or what? Unfortunately for the Anglers, their best game of the season came in the second game, where they shut out the Blue and White; however, QB Jerome Eddison got injured, which led to Anchors Academy absolutely throttling them on the third game of the season. Myana Northwesern, to their benefit, has smacked around their rivals in Myana Southeastern and then handled Navy Academy with ease, as Cho Sang-Wook is averaging more than a hundred yards on the ground per game. Did you know that Anchors actually hadn't scored a point till the third game victory over the Anglers?

Summary: Kya Cheri and the Barracudas are rolling. Sure, they lost a barnburner to Limonte, but they bounced back with narrow wins over Inon School for the Arts and the defending champions of the Academy of the Jungle, as Cheri has found TE Han Byung-Ma for five scores and the end zone twelve times in total. Now, if they could fix their defense, they'd be set. The Cats have only lost to the Barracudas so far, while Egren Academy has only lost to the Cats, having outscored Inon School for the Arts and Eyrods Central. This is a conference of multiple high-octane teams.

Summary: Anyone see this coming? The Pumas have come to play, and Senior QB Marik Ferr has really found his stride in the early going. The fifty-eight points hung on Staramara Athletics Academy is the most in Pumas' history; only time will tell if their play continues. The Rangers have been fine except for that one game, having taken down their rivals in the Battle Angels, while those same Battle Angels weren't able to beat the Wights as Nox Grayson shined in their match. This isn't where the Battle Angels want to be, but the season is far from over, and the volatility of this conference is at a high.

Summary: A conference of land mines, the Geomancers handled the Robots on the first matchday and narrowly escaped the Tears before running into the class of the early going: the Spectrum. With Mike Journnais averaging 150 yards and two touchdowns a game, the Spectrum have surprised everyone with the strength of their time of possession game, Whitney Coons starting to show on the radar as one of the best prospects heading into next season. The Robots, to their credit, bounced back by absolutely shellacking the Monks before getting by the Tears on a late Field Goal; Mtupeni Onwuatuegwu is having a challenge easing into the starting role, but the Robots are ramping up.

Summary: It was a clash when the Masterminds fought the Cruisers; With Nicholas St. Claire catching the late pass from QB Kevin Earnst, the Masterminds remained the only undefeated school, having also defeated the Gurshan High School Drills. For both Aya K. Jackson and Air Force Academy, this is a season to forget, while the Bears are doing better than forecasted. That being said, it's all about the Masterminds and if they can stay ahead of the pack.

Summary: The home team has won every game in this conference so far, which has led to a pretty even playing field. The Terror, the Hotshots, and the Defenders are on top, North Chromia leading by virtue of point differential. Not one team really stands out, though the play of Mark Hansoff has been pretty good, accounting for seven of the touchdowns scored. Whomever wins on the road will have the advantage here.

Summary: Until the fourth quarter of the game in Nonian, the Martyrs seemed invincible; then, Neon Meer found Senior Wide Receiver Jean Sumner for a pair of scores, and the Martyrs were taken down. They have done well enough in the rest of the games to still be atop the table after stopping Capital District Academy for their only loss; the Regiment have taken care of business otherwise. For the Enigma, the schedule hasn't been kind to them, though the loss to Dre'a Elite Academy was ugly - often troubled Junior QB Cadance Hill made mincemeat of the heralded Martyrs defense.

It makes sense to see such movement in the early going, though this will likely remain a very volatile ranking. the Revolution Conference is so loaded that the 3-0 team is actually ranked below East Omnio and the Vitoron School of Charge, though the Geomancers did beat the Robots in the Head-to-Head - the defending champion buff is real. However, with the Anacondas playing so well, and the Hooligans also being in the top five, their upcoming clash will be one to remember. It's too bad that only two teams per conference make it to the conference championship game, and that only one team makes it out of each conference, regardless of how stacked the conference is.

NSFB: Great Football Happens on TJUN-ian Soil

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Mar 29, 2022 5:35 am

The first game of the new season was certainly pretty conclusive, with one school convincing in victory and the other convincing in defeat. Now, two big games were on the horizon for both at home and you better believe that in both Notts and Green City, these games were going to feel like the most important in the world.

Let's start at the Horseshoe, Sherwood Field, and the Trent State Feathercaps were certainly in high spirits after their 28-0 win over Badfekna SsL on this very turf. Johnny Bridgeford certainly couldn't complain about a win like that on the first game back as the defending Mineral Conference Champions - but he also stressed that tougher tests than BSsL were coming in this conference and that they had to be ready for "anything this wacky world had to throw at them". The Alexandroupolis Redbirds would certainly surface, the team TSU beat to claim this title and the team who crushed their "friends" by 3 last week, and what better way to look at how this title defence could go than to test yourself against one of the 2 teams you beat to the crown?

This game, as expected, wasn't an easy affair at all and the 7-7 scoreline at halftime was certainly a good sign of just how tight it was. Leon Gallas was certainly up for this contest but Curtis Decker early studies how he played and he was certainly a target for the Redbird defence to try and pin down. That didn't mean that he didn't have a trick or two up his sleeve however and he managed to find just enough space in Q2 to find Fremont Whitehorse for a 45-yard house call. Xander Tiovannen was always there to support his BF, of course, kissing the cheek before kicking the extra point to make it 7-0. But UA didn't have for these fancies and would strike deeply before the half, Ely May with a short pass to Damian Buchanan and Clyde Head kicked the PAT. The second half would be just as tight but in the end, Alehandro Martinez and the TSU defence woke up and would frustrate the Redbirds into only claiming a FG for the rest of this contest. That would give TSU plenty of time to find the winning points and Gallas' 23-yard run into the end zone and two-point-conversion through Candice Fay would seal it in the end. A big win, TSU are now 2-0 and will prepare to face UC-Baker Park next week. And speaking of the Warriors...

Over at The Palace, the Green City Royal Eagles were preparing those very same Warriors and you knew that despite the 33-point loss against the Redbirds, Paul Abdullahi was still confident his team could do something this season. Playing UA on the road on the opening day was always going to be tough as nails and getting out of there in the best possible state was always the priority. That was the aim, too, for this game against the Warriors...but things certainly went off-script here.

The Palace @GCU was thunderous tonight and that must've done something because the Royal Eagles played out of their skins against a top tier opponent in Ryan Benton's Warriors. The visitors only managed 16 points the entire game, both long throws from Neal Antonelli to Raymond Darrien with 2 points as well. 16 points may sound alright considering the TSU game, but GCU was having the best game of their lives and those 16 points weren't going to matter at all. Moses Igbinoghene ended up spearheading 5 Touchdowns against one of the teams battling for the Conference Title last season and that was certainly a surprise...even to the QB himself. Gilbert Nyamutsamba handled 3 of the scores, Lucky Sithole-Sita had 1 and the other went to Victory Prince-Brown. Glory Oparanozie did well with 4/5 and while she wasn't perfect, that wasn't going to stop the field from being stormed at the end of the night. GCU had a big win on their resume already and they will hope to build on that in Constantinople next week.

One is 2-0, the other 1-1 - but both got big wins on TJUN-ian soil. The road now greats them both the same as the hunt for the Mineral crown continues.

Mark Hardesty figured realistically that his Joe Gibbs University Cyclones team would struggle in their first NSCF season against mostly unfamiliar competition. After all, the one familiar opponent on the Sequoia Conference schedule, Woodstock University, played their debut season in the Sequoia the previous go-round. Sure, they started 2-0 but a slump including a bad loss to Silverleaf University dropped them to 2-2. However, the Climbers rally to finish 7-3 in conference play, then 9-4 after a 2-1 mark outside the conference and then a playoff victory gave him hope that his team would somehow capture similar magic.

If he had optimism that his team would have the same kind of magic, he would get a quick awakening to the harsh reality of college gridball. Not only did his team lose a barnburner against Upper Westside University, it also lost its home debut 17-14 against Golden Oak University in front of 64,215 at Cyclones Stadium to drop to 0-2.

Even worse than the loss itself, which included an incomplete pass into the end zone from Joyce Logano on fourth and 10 from the 29-yard line on the final play of the match was the crowd at the stadium. To say the recent name change from Redskins to Cyclones was not embraced by the campus community as a whole would be putting it mildly. The crowd kept chanting the Native Sarzonian-related chants and several fans were still wearing costumes that reeked of cultural appropriation. This came despite several warnings by university administration and the athletic department, and by Hardesty himself.

The crowd booed Hardesty vociferously when he told the crowd not to use "Redskins" in chants or use Native Sarzonian imagery. They didn't even boo his decision to go for it on fourth down and eschew what would have been a tying 46-yard field goal attempt from Cameron Wing.

"I was disappointed," he said. "Not just by the loss, but also by the fact that this crowd has continued to employ racist imagery and is allowing bigotry to define the experience here," he said. "I thought this university was supposed to be better than that."

As for the match itself, Logano completed 21-of-28 passes for 247 yards and both touchdowns, but she threw a costly interception at the 5:28 mark of the fourth quarter with the Cyclones trailing 17-7 and marching for what they hoped would be a touchdown that would make the match a one-possession game. They would later capitalise on a fumble by Foxes quarterback Austin Garner on their first play after the interception. Logano hit wide receiver Devin Quinn on a 32-yard scoring pass on second down to bring the Cyclones within a field goal of tying it.

Hardesty said he opted for an attempt at throwing a match-winning touchdown on fourth down because Wing told him he wasn't feeling good about the would-be 46-yard attempt.

"I've come to trust Cam's judgment," Hardesty said. "If he says he can't do it, I know to take that to the bank. He's a really good kicker and he knows when he can and can't make field goals for us."

The Cyclones don't get much of a break in the schedule because they have to travel to the other United Adaikes school in the Sequoia, defending conference champions Silverleaf University for Matchday 3. The 23rd ranked team in NSCF lost to Upper Westside 24-17 to drop the Goblins to 1-1. Meanwhile, in the other conference match, Woodstock University outlasted The University of the Hampton Cities 50-35 in the Climbers' first away match of the season. Woodstock currently sit at the top of the Sequoia Conference table at 2-0, level with Upper Westside, but have the advantage in point differential at plus-29 to the Red Pandas plus-10.

Hardesty said his team could easily drop to 0-3, but promised better days would be ahead.

"We're not that far off," he said. "We've stayed competitive with a good Red Pandas side and we know we can play good gridball."

Northern Moravica kicks off the season with pair of road wins in Barnettsville, while the Blue Thunder split against the South Newlandian schools to kick off the season

Image
A Northern Moravica defender celebrates after their 27-24 Week 2 victory over Northern Dinagat State

DINAGAT, BARNETTSVILLE- When Kohnheadian tight end Zachary Lewis caught the Northern Dinagat State onside kick with just 16 seconds left, their futile comeback effort officially had fallen short. But that just gave Northern Moravica their second win out of two road games to start the season, a record that any coach would be happy with. "Look, It's never easy to take a brand new QB, and immediately start the season with two games on the road." Lance Kabuye said. "It requires the QB, and the team around him, to really embrace the pressure that it takes to play on the road, especially in a competition that is as competitive as the Celestia Conference. To takes two wins from two in this situation is certainly a positive for this team. Think about our outlook from here on out. 5 of our remaining conference games are at home, and 7 of our 11 remaining games in the regular season will occur at home. It is a strong tone to start off with a pair of road wins."

Of course, these road wins did not come easy. Despite these two schools traditionally struggling in the Celestia, both of them gave Northern Moravica scares, particularly Fair Haven State in Week 1- which we will get into in a minute. The two wins came by a combined margin of four points, so it's not like Northern Moravica blasted them to hell or anything like that. No 40 point wins like Raynor University, or 50 spots like some of their rivals in other conferences. Still, 2-0 is 2-0. "It's too early in the season to be comparing ourselves to how other teams are doing in other conferences." Kabuye told reporters. And, of course, as he always does, he spoke the praises of the Celestia. "We play in the competition's toughest conference, as we proved that last season. Lowest seed in the NSCF, still went to the title game. The best regular season team this competition has seen in probably a decade, maybe even longer, couldn't even beat us at home in a damn blizzard. We've come out and got our road wins. Now we've got a trophy game to prep for against Elephant Valley."

But how did these wins happen? Let's get into the Fair Haven State game.

Week 1, Northern Moravica traveled to Fair Haven State. This being, of course, week 1, the game was moved to Thursday, and occurred at nighttime. A sold out stadium at Fair Haven State reflected the energy and hopes that always come with the dawn of a brand new season. The crowd was bouncing, and was excited for the opening game of the college football season. And who wouldn't be? With Felix Ström a young quarterback making just his second career start, and NMU replacing all sorts of important players, like Apollo Esther, there was reasons to have questions about the abilities of this Cougars team. And as for Fair Haven State- well, it couldn't be worse than last season's 0-10 conference record, could it?

The opening kickoff was taken by Tekoa Lukwiya, who booted it through the end zone for a touchback. Why mention that? Of course, a stark contrast from the Alicia Woodbrough-induced special teams struggles, whose numerous failures as the punter, kickoff specialist, and holder nearly derailed NMU's season on multiple occasions. But Fair Haven State were aggressive immediately, and it paid off. Opening the season with a flea flicker? A bold move, but it worked to perfection, as it netted them 45 yards and allowed them to flip the field, getting down to the NMU 30. 6 plays later, their starting RB punched the ball in from 3 yards out, to give the hosts a 7-0 lead to start the game. But then, things got even better for the opposition. Felix Ström did pass for a first down on the series, but on second down and 8 after that first down, he was sacked, and he fumbled. A recovery by Fair Haven State. Northern Moravica's defense allowed a pair of first downs, but when push came to shove at the goal line, the Cougars defense held, and forced a short field. Still, down 10-0 after about seven minutes? Not an ideal start for NMU.

But fortunately for NMU, fundamentally, the talent is there. The coaching is there. Even with a young QB, on the road making his second career start in front of an extremely raucous crowd, they weren't going to roll over and simply get blown out. Felix Ström kept calm, and responded well to his turnover on the previous drive. The next drive for Northern Moravica was a 9 play, 82 yard drive, that ended with a 2 yard plunge for the former army running back, Ocan Akeyo. What were Felix Ström's stats for that drive? Oh yeah- 6/6, for 71 of those yards. Throwing darts all across the field, as he came here, wanting to show that he belonged on this field. The remainder of the first half, truly, was not a crazy affair. No more touchdowns or turnovers for either side- just a field goal for NMU, that was sandwiched by two field goals for Fair Haven State, including a 51 yarder to end the half for the Blue Jays. That meant they went to halftime with the hosts leading, by a score of 16-10.

But the third quarter would be all about the big play capability of the Cougars. They got the ball to start the half, and went three and out to start it. But the Cougars forced a three and out, and then when Felix Ström got the ball back, he went to work. A tight window post route to Zachery Lewis, as the Kohnheadian tight end was brought down for 17 yards. And then, looking towards the big play threat. Jannik Nadine had been double teamed for basically the entirety of the game, and in the first half, had 3 catches, but for just 14 yards. Now was his time to make the major impact. A great combination from the duo, as Nadine's double move left the Blue Jays CB1 stumbling, and even their free safety didn't turn around to catchup behind the blazing speed from Nadine. The deep ball was nearly perfectly thrown, as Nadine caught it and jogged into the end zone.

17-16. But they were not done, not yet. Fair Haven State responded with a long, methodical, drive down the field. 11 plays, 84 yards, to get all the way down to the NMU 4 yard line. Had taken all of 7 minutes to do so. So with just a few minutes left in the quarter, Fair Haven State were knocking on the door of at least re-taking the lead, right? Wrong. They tried to run a pick play with the inside slot receiver that would be a slant. But have you seen the pair of ball-hawking safeties that this team has? Drew Lia had sniffed the play out, and had immediately sprinted straight towards the goal line from his position. The QB did not see him, and boom, he picked it off in stride. The Chromatik free safety ran for 70 yards before he was brought down by a Blue Jays running back. And on the very next play, the Cougars blocked the edge, as Jebel Marenah took a HB toss up the sideline and 32 yards to the house. What a turnaround, as the Cougars led 24-16.

The Cougars forced another turnover towards the end of the fourth quarter, and Dwayne Markson kicked a 32 yarder on the first play of the first quarter to take a 27-16 lead for the Cougars. When Markson hit his third field goal of the day, a 49 yarder, it was 30-16 to the Cougars with 8 minutes left. Considering the pedigree of these two teams, game over, right? Wrong. Considering they were supposed to be running the hurry-up offense, the Cougars did a great job of keeping everything in front of them. They ran quite a bit of clock. But the Blue Jays were not going to be denied. It took them nearly 5 minutes, but with 3:12 left in the game, and two of their timeouts, the Blue Jays scored on a 6 yard touchdown scramble by their Quarterback. They were going to kick it deep, and rely on the defense. Good idea?

Maybe not. The first play from scrimmage after the touchback, was a 15 yard run by Marenah. Churn clock, brand new series, can't use your timeout. But then, suddenly, the Blue Jays defense stood up. FitzRoy up the middle for 1 yard. Marenah up the middle for 3 yards. 3rd and 6, no timeouts left for the Blue Jays, 2:20 left. Literally, game on the line, as the Cougars led 30-23. They went high-risk on 3rd and medium, blitzing everybody. But the strategy worked. Against a young QB, panic is possible, and Felix Ström didn't have time find the open receiver. He made the smart play, taking the sack and protecting himself, and the football, to conserve clock. Still- the defense would have to step up.

And the Blue Jays QB, with momentum, and a chance to re-write the narrative on Fair Haven State football, stepped up to the plate. They entered the game 0-8 all-time against NMU. They were 0-10 last season. But this is a new year, a new season, a new squad. A comeback win at home, against a frequent conference rival, to send notice across not only the Celestia, but across all of college football about their school being ready for the big kids table. And their QB stuck in there, and was dealing. And, of course, avenge the loss that they had in such dramatic fashion to end conference play last season. There are some big dudes on this defense- he'd take his hits and simply get up. And when the crowd exploded after he threw a touchdown with 11 seconds left, to make it 30-29, the coach immediately help up 2 fingers. They were going for the win.

Banija's TV commentators widely applauded the move to go for the win. "It just makes too much sense." Said one commentator. "Last season was ugly- you're looking to wipe those memories. You're big underdogs. You've got the momentum, and the crowd, at home. Do you want overtime to allow for NMU to have more time to have its talent advantage play a bigger factor? Or do you trust your dudes, one play from the two, to go and get this game? If it works? One hell of a game." And so they went for two. But the Cougars brought pressure on the 2PAT, going man and rushing six. They left the one dude you can never leave unblocked, unblocked- Former Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Ailo Børve. He jumped the snap perfectly, and it seemed like he was running past the tackle just as the tackle got out of his stance. Ailo Børve was there so quickly, the QB had to try and get rid of it. But a diving Børve knocked it out of his hand, forcing a fumble. One of his O-Linemen picked it up and tried to run with it, but obviously that was never happening. In a game that basically came down to the final play, Børve stepped up and won it for 'em.

Junior receiver Thomas Drach caught the onside kick, which was the end of the game. After the game, MLB Bango Uster told reporters how this was NMU. "Look- all hats off to Fair Haven State." Uster said. "They played a hell of a game. That conference losing streak of theirs- honestly, I have no idea how they have it. Last year, and now this year, we went basically to the final play of the game. But hell of a job to our boys for pulling this off. We never got rattled, mentally. They threw a lot of stuff at us. Even when our backs were against the wall, they needed two yards for the win- we needed to make one play, and hell, we went out and made it. That's what Cougar football is all about. We have a lot to do if we want to get back to last year's heights, but the only way to do that is by winning games first. This is win #1, and we're only to get better from here."

Other Games from Weeks 1 and 2
Week 1: University of Loyola-Istria Blue Thunder (BNJ) 23–12 Elephant Valley University Red Elephants (SNL)- Craig Juniper threw for 202 yards, two touchdowns(one each to Russell Farmer and Rachel Emerson), and no interceptions, as the Coolville Grad Transfer won his first start. This was a game of field goals, as the Blue Thunder held the Red Elephants to four field goals on the day, while going 2/3 on their own, with sophomore walk-on Haashid el-Mady hitting from 37 and 44, and missing from 55.
Week 2: Northern Dinagat State University Panthers (BAR) 24–27 Northern Moravica University Cougars (BNJ)- NMU went to Northern Dinagat State and won, by a score of 27-24. Despite the score, NMU was more dominant than first appeared. The Cougars led 17-0 at halftime, and the Panthers final touchdown was with just 4 seconds left, to make it 27-24. It was a multiple possesion game, other than the very end, for basically the entire game for the Cougars. Marenah led the way on the ground with a pair of touchdown runs, as Yaya Badjie had his first touchdown catch of the season.
Week 2: Ratzupalfu University of Nature Egrets (SNL) 16–13 University of Loyola-Istria Blue Thunder (BNJ)[/i]- The Blue Thunder lost their first game of the season, as they lost on a nightmarish trip to the Jungledrom, by a score of 16-13. In a true rainstorm, Juniper had 3 interceptions as the Egrets fully embraced probably the toughest home environment in all of college football. In a conference where three schools have never been the Banijan duo(Northern Dinagat State, Elephant Valley, and Fair Haven State), the RUoN continue their run of dominance against what Ko-orenites nicknamed 'the duopoly' as they improve to 4-1 against the Banijan pair.

Upcoming Week 3 Matchups
Northern Moravica: The unbeaten Cougars will play at home for the first time, as their South Newlandian rivals, Elephant Valley, come to Herzegovina City to battle for the Sally Trophy. The Red Elephants, after struggling at the Istria Lightning Yard, blasted Fair Haven State by a score of 34-0 at home, so they will be coming with some momentum and extra motivation to bring the rivalry trophy home back with them. In celebration of the rivalry, NMU has confirmed that they will bring in an actual live elephant, onto the campus as part of the pre-game festivities. This game kicks off at 3:30.
Loyola-Istria: The Blue Thunder, reeling after the Egrets dominated them defensively, will look to get back to their winning ways, as they start a two-game homestand against both schools from Barnettsville. First up, in week 3, they will take on Northern Dinagat State, who presently sit at 0-2. It is a matchup where the Blue Thunder are heavily favored, as many will look to see how Craig Juniper does. With the North v. South Showdown on the horizon, fans will like to see an offense that has been fairly stagnant thus far, explode and pick up some much-needed momentum before their week 5 trip to Northern Moravica.

Other News
- As has previously been reported elsewhere, NIL is officially legal, with immediate effect, for college athletes. Athletes own their own name, image, and likeness rights, and can now auction them off to whomever, at whatever cost. How does this effect the NSCF? Hard to say- but it will definitely effect Banijan athletes within the NSCF. Already, athletes from both schools are signing NIL licensing deals. We'll see what kind of effect this has on the field in the upcoming weeks.

Sierraville, Ranoria
Week 10, Vangarian Stadium
Tight End Samajae Dallas

With fourteen seconds on the clock and thirty yards to go, the Vangarians took the field once again.

Samajae Dallas couldn't help but roll his eyes at the playcall that left him in to block. Their quarterback clapped and broke the huddle and Samajae gave him a tug of the jersey, then pointed down the field, "Akira, we don't have time for any of this, I'm going long, just put it up there and I'll go win this thing for us."

The quarterback nodded, and that was all he needed.

The home crowd was as quiet as you could ask for on a cool Friday night in Sierraville, and Samajae gave the defensive end just enough of a chip to put him on his ass, then turned around. Samajae grinned when he saw the ball was already on its way, she knew him too well.

When you've got the fastest and maybe biggest player on the field with the ball in open field, things tend to get hairy for the defense, and they did. Some poor bloke was sentenced to execution by stiff arm and another tasted the turf's rubber pellets when a juke took his feet out from under him. Virtually untouched, Samajae sprinted into the end zone full speed, catching himself on the goal post to halt his advance.

There were still a few seconds on the clock, but he rushed the sideline to meet his teammates after sealing this one - the ensuing squib kickoff was only a formality, and while the playoffs were out of reach, Dallas's high school career would end in the best way he could ask for.

Three Seasons In, Verona Finally Making A Case to Be Among the NSCF's Elite

Image
Junior QB Astrid Verona looking to pass

Harrowitz is a defensive mastermind no doubt. Whether you look at his pedigree at Felswyr State or his work as defensive coordinator under Richard Steinheil, that was never in doubt. And hell, this team is only allowing 12.5 points per game even after a match against Swisston's pass first ask questions later attack. Between Gideon Kearse and Kasper Ulvasted, once the Governors take a big lead, no quarterback is going to have long in the pocket. And with more speed all around in their base defense, Takeuchi Ichiko and Totte Lindberg really stepped up to the plate. The two young defenders have formed a dynamic duo on the back end, with Ichiko looking borderline elite already in his young career and Lindberg flashing that athleticism that made him such a highly recruited prospect - he's already gotten his first career interception.

Kasen Harrowitz has earned a ton of praise for elevating those two youngsters with how well they've played.

However, he should get some credit for how the offense has stepped up through the first two weeks, they have bought into whatever it is he's selling. Astrid Verona, who's never topped 2,300 passing yards in a season for the Governors, has accounted for more than 550 through the air through two games now, while chipping in plenty on the ground. The redshirt junior finished the game with three touchdowns - two passing and one rushing - as she showed off the results of all her offseason training, letting the ball rip at odd angles on the run with impressive accuracy and staying composed in the pocket when necessary. This offense has always been quarterback friendly in terms of efficiency, relying heavily on play action and baiting defenses into stopping their run game, but the team's third year starter has come in at a different level so far this season, and finally seems to be able to truly take advantage of it.

"She's really improved her arm strength," former quarterback coach and first year offensive coordinator Ulrich Ray divulged, "I'd say she put a good five to eight yards on her deep ball, and that really helps accuracy. She's always had incredible footwork and mechanics, but that improved zip really cuts down the time the ball has in the air, harder for defenders to adjust and time is less of a factor, especially on a deep ball. Besides that," he pointed to Kasen Harrowitz, who was present but declined to interview, "Coach over there had a bit of input, suggested we take advantage of her athleticism in the run game more. He saw how SMG took the NSCF by storm, and Astrid's not that kind of player, but she's got speed to burn."

It was a long winded answer, and it appears accurate. Astrid's been much more successful in particular on Richardon's bread-and-butter play action shot plays, with her improved arm strength letting her fit the deep balls in with much more success as defensive backs have less time to adjust to the ball in the air. Using her on a designed run or three per game, or even rolling her out of the pocket on a bootleg, gives this offense just a touch more variety. All that put together, and she accounted for three of the team's four scores against Swisston.

Of course, that play action wouldn't be possible without the man of the hour - Elliot Roach.

Roach himself scored his third touchdown of what's looking to be a monster sendoff campaign for him. He's already knocking on the door of 300 rushing yards on the year as the senior runner looks inspired after yet another early playoff loss. Make no mistake, while Astrid's emergence as a potential star is a huge boon to this unit, Roach is still it's engine. The entire offensive gameplan revolves around his ability to consistently produce and force defenses to account for him, leaving passing lanes open especially on hard play action fakes. Better yet, clock-grinding runs keep the team's loaded defense fresh, and make it harder for a team to come shooting back when they fall behind. The Kohnhead native is the best skill player on this offense, and as long as he's eating up yardage, don't expect this team to trip up anytime soon.

Between Roach and Verona, however, the team has never had much success against their bitter rivals in Kohnhead City. Ignited to an extent by Richard Steinheil's comments, there is no love lost between these two squads, and while Roach has long been established as a top runner in the NSCF, this is a prime opportunity for Astrid Verona to validate the hype building around her recent performances.

Cold Hill Sloppy, But Survives Against Richmond University

Image
Chris Dale was far from happy with his team's performance, but at the end of the day the Buffalo are 2-0

A 17-0 week one win had the world thinking that Cold Hill's defense hadn't lost a step from their dominant NSCF 25 form, but that unit that led the Buffalo to a 14-0 start a season ago is long gone.

Veterans like Candace Ferrett and Victoria Mio are certainly pulling their weight. Mio has only been targeted thrice through two games, solid game planning from the opposition after she led the best defense in program history by forcing ten turnovers in NSCF 25. Ferrett has consistently generated pressure on the defensive side. And of course, Prokopios Vortigern Rooijakkers has been incredible. But outside of those stars, there's work to do.

Eden Park and Derek Pierce are both true freshmen starters, and while they look to be the core of this defense in the near future, both have been caught out of position at times and haven't quite caught up to the college game for all their physicality. Pierce's mistakes have often been covered for by Proko's range, with the 6'8" strong safety routinely lining up in the box to provide physical run support. He's currently leading the team in both tackles and interceptions, hauling in his second of the season against Richmond. But lapses in cohesion on a defense that saw so much turnover are to be expected. The real shocker has been Cold Hill's stagnant offense to this point.

Robin Sterling, the team's quarterback, generated a lot of buzz as a talented dual threat when he transferred in, ready to showcase a big arm and alluring speed. But while he's flashed some of that mobility we were promised, we haven't seen much else. After taking an early 14-0 lead, Robin Sterling committed three second half turnovers - twice putting the ball on the ground and once on an interception - while recording just one touchdown on the day, a six yard scramble after the Greyhounds got quick pressure on a jailbreak blitz. On the season, that puts him at two touchdowns to three turnovers, far from the electric player we were promised.

"The turnovers have to stop," Chris Dale admitted at a presser this week, "It's been a problem with our quarterbacks going back to Rhine, but Rhine produced more than enough on offense to make his gunslinging tendencies worth it. It cost us in the end with Strathos, too - but I'm confident that we can work with Robin to get this fixed. He took care of the ball well during his year Weston Private."

That's great, but Weston Private was a Class III (second lowest of IV) team playing against competition at its level - Sterling's talent was head and shoulders above almost everyone he played against. Instead of continuing that trend, he nearly threw the game away in the second half. Cold Hill was up 17-0 midway through the third quarter, and with all three of those blunders coming in their own territory, Sterling let the Greyhounds of their cage and they got racing in a hurry. It wasn't until Alexander Østby ripped off a 37 yard touchdown run late in the fourth that the Buffalo could be sure of their victory. With the 0-2 Univesity of Lekenik up next, the Buffalo will look to put on a much more convincing performance.

Happy Together, pt 1
Damascus, present day
At first, Todd Morton thought the envelope had to be a scam. He got those from time to time, in his e-mail and via regular old post; some joker got ahold of an old friend’s name and address and hit him up, asking for money. Todd didn’t do social media–didn’t need the Starblaydian government inserting propaganda into his mind*--but he knew that sometimes scammers would use that, too.

Looking at the handwriting on it, though, he realized it had to be legitimate. The tiny, almost illegible block print could only belong to Liam, Todd’s college roommate. They’d been inseparable through their four years at the University of Constantinople and in the city police academy, only to grow apart shortly after Liam’s wedding, when Todd had accepted a position as a lieutenant on the Damascus police force while Liam had stayed in ‘nople with his wife and their new baby.

When last they’d talked on the phone, Liam had quit the force and was selling health insurance-or did he own a gym? Something like that. Todd, meanwhile, had risen through the ranks in Damascus and would be shortlisted for commissioner when the incumbent retired. As he tore open the envelope, Todd did quick mental math to calculate how long it had been since he’d seen his friend, only to be beaten to the punch by the envelope’s content.

“Liam and Lydia invite you to celebrate twenty years of marriage with us at Knights Lodge #113, 1100 Short Branch St, Constantinople.”

So that was how long it had been.

Some things change, some things stay the same.

That maxim could very well apply to the Climbers representing the now-Woodstock University. The name of the school may have changed, but other elements from the magic carpet ride that was Woodstock's debut season in NSCF have not.

The Climbers improved to 2-0 as they did in their inaugural season, this time in a 50-35 shootout victory over The Universities of The Hampton Cities in their first away match of the NSCF 26 season. This time, however, instead of a deflating upset defeat to a previously 0-2 side on Matchday 3, they will get an early battle for supremacy in the Sequoia Conference with a visit from Upper Westside University out of Saint Kanye, the other conference team sporting a 2-0 record. Woodstock University have a plus-29 point differential to the Red Pandas plus-10.

Regarding the victory over Hampton Cities, manager James Arthur said the defence kept conceding big plays at "a concerning rate," but added that defensive coordinator Chris Hoskins was able to get his team to make key stops when it had to.

"Give Chris a ton of credit," Arthur said. "He and the players could have packed it in and just resigned ourselves to a track meet, but he kept making adjustments and the players kept fighting to make plays. It was a good thing that we were able to start winning the time of possession battle in the second half." The Brawlers kept the ball for 17 minutes of the first half and held onto possession for 25 minutes through three quarters, but the Climbers running game began to assert itself in the fourth quarter as Woodstock held the ball for 11 minutes in the final stanza. Woodstock ended up with 30:41 in time of possession for the match.

"It was a concerted effort to control the clock in the fourth quarter," said offensive line coach and running game coordinator Tom Hollingsworth. "I saw our defensive guys looking gassed out there after three quarters and I talked to James about keeping the ball on the ground. We let our size and strength take it from there." To wit: Cal Barkley, who had thrown 38 passes through three quarters only attempted two in the fourth, finishing the day 26-for-40 for 307 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. However, one of the interceptions came on the final play of the first half and the other amounted to a punt on third-and-14 from the Climbers 22-yard line. That turnover at the 3:51 mark of the third quarter gave the defence a chance to get a stop and led to a long touchdown drive culminating in a Bill Crotty one-yard touchdown to start the fourth quarter.

None of the stats regarding the contest against Upper Westside matter all that much to Arthur, as he reminded the rest of the media in attendance that it was still early in the season.

"Absolutely no conference titles have been decided yet," he said. "And nothing's going to get decided after three matchdays. We learned that the hard way last season. We need to be better prepared this time around, and that starts right here," he said, pointing to his chest with his right index finger.

Cavsar Chronicle: Gridiron Gladiators Due Some Respect

Gridiron Gladiators Due Some Respect
Gladiators once again vanquish the Firehawks

Hello there, and welcome back to the Cavsar Chronicle! Last week, we covered the depressing but understandable loss to Hoofstra in our home opener. Let's be honest, I don't think anybody was happy to see that result. Nobody wants to lose their home opener, but I saw a lot of non-Cavsar fans on social media clowning our Gladiators for dropping this game against Hoofstra. Uh, excuse me? Hoofstra were in contention for the conference title last season! I can't believe people still think that losing to a team like Hoofstra is an embarrassment. The Horizon Conference is the cream of the crop in the NSCF, where almost every single team is a threat to win the conference title.

Sorry for the off-topic intro, but I feel like I just had to address the haters regarding the loss to Hoofstra. After all, it was only by one score at the end of the game. Need I remind you that Sadeg State lost by TWENTY POINTS to Felswyr State on the same day? Of course, Felswyr State is objectively a better team than Hoofstra, but Sadeg State are supposedly the best team from Drawkland, and the biggest threats to win the Horizon Conference. Explain how they could be losing by such a huge margin to the Firehawks, then? How is that not equally embarrassing? Whatever, I digress for now ... but remember these facts.

The thing about being an athlete is that, win or lose, you're expected to show up for the next game ready for the challenge. Despite the loss to start the season, the gridiron Gladiators had an opportunity to rebound at home the next week. It's unfortunate that this game would have to be against one of the conference frontrunners, but that's what it's like being in the Horizon Conference. The Felswyr State Firehawks came to town, and it was time to do battle.

After the game against Hoofstra, lots of doubt was shone on Darian Lewis, the sophomore quarterback who we recruited from Cassadaigua several seasons ago. His play in his first few seasons has been adequate at best, but he hasn't been a gamebreaker like we might've been hoping. Many people were calling for Lane Proudfoot, the backup to Seb Rosario, who is now in his senior season. Coach Scott Linhart remained adamant that Lewis would be our man all season, and that he believed in his potential. Still, many called into question the legitimacy of a quarterback who can't even lead his team to two touchdowns in a game with a future first-round pick in the backfield and another as a receiving option.

However, as much as we have a QB problem on our hands, so too does Felswyr State. With the departure of the sensational Sarai Gwenderyn, the Firehawks have been left scrambling to pick up the pieces and keep up the pace. They seemed to move the ball at will against Sadeg State, but the Skyhawk defense looked vastly unprepared the entire game. It was more complete ineptitude that led to the Skyhawks falling to the Firehawks in Week 1, rather than a very good offense on Felswyr State's part.

The crowd in Roy Memorial Stadium were certainly nervous going into the game. We didn't want to suffer two straight home losses to start the campaign, and the game against Hoofstra had been a nerve-wracking affair. Hopefully we could start the game right. We got the ball to start, so Felswyr State would get the ball after half. The game would get off to a hot start after all. The crowd was excited but doing its best to not make too much noise, and Darian Lewis got the snap from under center. He handed it off to Mike Banks, who immediately took off just outside the tackles, broke past one, shouldered through another, and high stepped over a pursuing defender in the space of four seconds. As soon as he broke the last tackle, he had some space, and rocketed up the sideline to show off his speed. Eventually Ozioma Mazzi got the angle and pushed Banks out of bounds, but now the Gladiators had the ball in the red zone after one play. Lewis would get the ball on the next snap, and fired a quick inside route to Jonathan Kimbrough to get the ball inside the five. One play later, Mike Banks found paydirt, and Cavsar was up by a touchdown early.

We would miss the two-point try, so Felswyr State would get the ball for the first time down by six points. The Cavsar defense was still reeling a little bit from the last drive against Hoofstra, where they allowed the game-winning touchdown. This was evident in the first drive. They looked jumpy and not confident at all. Three penalties were committed on that drive alone, two offsides and a pass interference call that helped the Firehawks move down the field quickly. Still, the Firehawks didn't seem to be getting yardage in large bunches. This is typical against tall Drawkian teams with fearsome secondaries - the easiest way to move the ball is in the midrange, or the short range if you can dodge the long arms of the pass rush. Despite all this, they moved the ball into the red zone (especially thanks to the aforementioned pass interference call on third down). On 3rd & Goal from outside the five, Jonas Odden managed to find Drawkian-born receiver Otto Mitchell in the corner of the end zone on a little curl route. Mitchell, at only 7'5", is obviously short for a Drawkian athlete, so he went overseas to find more attention from a good school, and he's found a good place in Felswyr.

Now the score was 6-7, and this is really where the shitshow began. Felswyr State and Cavsar would account for three straight turnovers on the next three drives. That's a Lewis interception, Odden interception (tipped at the line, not his fault), another Lewis interception (horrible read, definitely his fault). The next two drives would end in punts. Neither team was getting in a good rhythm, and both defenses were doing their job to keep the game in line. Darian Lewis in particular was having a horrible game, already two picks in, and only 5/14 passing at that point in the game.

This is where Banks would take over. The senior running back would be fed the ball on the next drive, with Lewis doing a little running himself in the read option, and a couple quick passes thrown in. For the most part, though, it was the Mike Banks show. The Gladiators would rumble up the field one run at a time, just barely staying ahead of the chains. Once they passed midfield, there were a few 4th & Inches conversions that just barely got through, a Banks run and a Lewis QB sneak. We'd make it into the red zone, but once we got a 1st & Goal at the 10 yard line, the Firehawk defense tightened up and held us back for two downs. On 3rd & Goal, the Firehawks sent the house to get after the rattled Lewis. Unfortunately for them, Coach Linhart had perfectly called a halfback screen to Banks; with the middle of the field emptied by the blitzers, Banks had huge amounts of space to work with once Lewis got him the ball. The blockers did their job, and Banks stiff armed a defender right outside the end zone to reach paydirt. A read-option score by Lewis on the 2PC would make it 14-7.

With the time running low in the half, it seemed there wouldn't be much time left for Felswyr State to make a move. That was true, as they went three and out, punting the ball back to Cavsar. With just a few seconds left in the half, Coach Linhart trusted in Lewis to chuck the ball downfield and perhaps get into field goal range to steal some points before halftime. This turned out to be a terrible decision. On 2nd & 10, Lewis made a terrible read, and the ball was easily picked off by Dorothéa Amble. She was tackled before she could return the ball far downfield, but suddenly Felswyr State were just outside field goal range with just enough time left. A quick pass from Odden to Kwang-Sun So and a timeout would get the Firehawks in a perfect position to kick with three seconds left. Michelle Breille booted it through, no problem, and the teams would go into the locker rooms with Cavsar leading 14-10.

Despite the lead, it was clear that Darian Lewis was not having a good game. Chants of "We Want Proudfoot!" could be heard starting midway through the second quarter. Surprisingly, Coach Linhart decided he would make the switch and see if it would make a difference. After all, the defense was doing their jobs. If the offense could just get more points on the board, it could turn this sweaty affair into a sure victory. Not to mention, it's not like Lane Proudfoot could do much worse than what Lewis had accomplished in the first half: 3 interceptions, and a touchdown that was more credit to a great playcall and Mike Banks than Lewis's doing.

So, following Felswyr State's punt to start the second half, it was Lane Proudfoot who would trot out to the huddle to begin Cavsar's offensive drive. The crowd at Roy Memorial was already pumped following the solid defensive stand, and with Proudfoot on the field in a meaningful game for the first time in seasons, they gave him a warm welcome. It was here that fortune would turn to favor the Gladiators. Proudfoot simply looked much more at ease under center, and coordinated the offense smoothly. In our first drive of the second half, we scored a touchdown on a 15-yard playaction pass from Proudfoot to Kimbrough on the corner route. Banks two-pointer later, and the score was 22-10.

Unfortunately for Felswyr State, their offense was playing much the same as they were in the first half. And now, with a two-score lead behind them, the Gladiator defensive front began to tighten up and get after Odden in the backfield. This persisted for the rest of the game, as the Gladiators pitched a second-half shutout. Proudfoot would add another touchdown in the air, against to Kimbrough (though this was more thanks to YAC than the pass itself), and Mike Banks would score the dagger touchdown late in the game on a breakaway 16-yard run. Even with both those two-point tries failing, it didn't matter. The final score ended up being Cavsar 34, Felswyr State 10. How's that for Horizon Conference Chaos?

Now, going into our Week 3 matchup, we have our first away game of the campaign. It's against Aturim Deephides Stonecutter School, who Sadeg State just beat 48-0, so I have to say I'm not incredibly nervous going into this matchup. It does have "trap game" written all over it, as Aturim is projected to be the worst team in the conference, but you never know with the Horizon. It would make perfect sense for us to finally get one over the Firehawks again, only to drop it to the newcomer the next week. Thus, I remain cautiously optimistic.

I will leave you all with one little interesting tidbit. Sadeg State fans spent all week clowning us for losing to Hoofstra by four points, despite the fact that they just lost to Felswyr State by almost three touchdowns. Oh, who was it that just beat Felswyr State by more than three touchdowns? Oh yeah ... that was US. Cavsar University. So how about you take care of your own business before you start dissing ours? Until next week, everybody ... Go Glads!

KCU continue to roll in win over Lekenik
Image
After a quiet first week, Rowena Hastroff got her senior season going with a big performance

A 2-0 start for Kohnhead City isn't much of a surprise given who we've played so far. We don't know how newcomers to the conference University of Lekenik and Richmond University will turn out. Richmond only lost by six to Cold Hill showing that they do have some competence, but either way neither of our first two opponents have been up to snuff. It's hard being a new team in the Big Eight and for the second straight week KCU showed no mercy against a new team.

The big storyline after the win against Richmond was Emilee Johansson's development as a passer, something that can continue to open doors for the offense especially against the likes of Richardson and Cold Hill. But when your senior running back is averaging almost 12 yards a carry on the day, is there any need to pass the ball? Rowena Hastroff came out of the gates on fire, rushing 17 times for 197 yards and two scores on the ground alongside 6 receptions for 54 yards.

Hastroff was just a monster on the day, running behind an offensive line that cleared up gap after gap for her as she maneuvered her way around tackles. While the offense might be more pass heavy this season, Hastroff appears to be the clear #1 in all situations even on third and shorts or on the goaline which should give her lots and lots of carries. And of course Hastroff is also active in the passing game and has shown some good effort in the pass protection department so far even if it certainly isn't her strength.

Speaking of the passing game, Johansson was as efficient as ever going 17/21 for 235 and 3 scores with sophmore Tom Lundgren catching two of his four receptions in the endzone and Kalu Alazar going 6-71 with a score in a lower production day than normal for the all caliber wideout. Keith Gray got a few manufactured touches and did a bit with them and had two good returns but saw no action in the deep ball game showing his inconsistencies. Blitz Taurus left the game early to due injury but should be fine by next week, he was having a slow start to the season anyway.

No compaints with the defense through two weeks as they only allowed six garbage time points here against Lekenik while Robert Lawrence feasted on the outside putting up 3.5 sacks in what looks to be a senior season for the ages although you have to look at the competition level. Finn Steele, Greg Mcloud, and Rex Bottlenick came up with interceptions. Bottlenick has looked really good in his first two collegiate games slotting in perfectly next to Samuel Church.

One could argue our season really starts next week with our home opener against rival Richardson University from Ranoria. KCU and Richardson have a long history despite this only being our fifth season in the NSCF that dates back to KCU's magnificent 3-0 season against them in our debut NSCF campaign. Former coach Richard Steinheil and Milton Donnelly had their fair share of comments against the other, former KCU quarterback Byron Joseph has turned his walking the carpet celebration into his signature move stemming from Steinheil's comments from seasons ago where he said Richardson were ready to "roll out the red carpet."

Donnelly as just mentioned has made headlines for his comments about Richardson and Richard Steinheil in the past was quick to praise new head coach Kasen Harrowitz. "Harrowitz is someone I have a lot of respect for, and to be frank I'm not happy he was hired as their new coach because that scares me. We are treating this game even more seriously than normal and the team is certainly ready for a fight."

When asked about Steinheil, Donnelly as expected had some comments, "We aren't going to take credit for his departure, not like with Dietrich although I'm sure the National Team appreciates that. Maybe a better record than 3-6 against us changes things you never know. Despite what I've said here and in the past, I have a lot of respect for him as well, he was a challenge to coach against week after week and I wish him well in whatever the next step of his life turns out to be/"

While Cold Hill has been the dragon KCU has needed to and failed to slay to win the Big Eight, we probably have a larger rivalry with Richardson. In all four of our season in the NSCF it has finished Cold Hill in first, KCU in second, and Richardson in third showing how far Richardson have to go if they want to re-realize their Big Eight aspirations. Expect a crazy crowd in Chicken King for this primetime game between two 2-0 schools that certainly have a history.

Swisston look flat once again in loss to Richardson
Image
Marcus Igama was the sole bright spot on a defense that got outperformed by Astrid Verona

When you think of the current Richardson offense the first thing that comes to mind is always 100/100 times going to be Elliot Roach. And he's earned it, the senior running back has been among the best in college football (even though he hasn't even been best in his conference until this season) the past two seasons and is a force to be reckoned with. Our defensive strategy was to stop him at all costs because what could Astrid Verona do to punish us. Unfortunately not only did we fail to stop Roach, our attempts to just opened up play action looks that Verona ate up all day.

For Swisston to have won, the defense which is much improved from our first NSCF campaign would need to have a big day while the offense would need to just be competent. We once again failed on both fronts as Jeffery Bolton just looks incapable of elevating anyone around him and there's nothing Kaytlynne Sellers can do against some very good defenses. Richardson easily shut down our passing attack and because we spent practically the entire time playing from behind, we just couldn't give our best offensive player the ball.

Defensively, it was even worse. Astrid Verona has always been okay against us and that has normally been enough with a beast like Roach next to her in the backfield. Today she was damn good, extending plays, getting out of the pocket, and making some throws we hadn't ever seen from her. Now Roach still obliterated our defensive line and if it weren't for a few key tackles from defensive captain Marcus Igama his final stats would have looked even more impressive than they ended.

It was an uncompetitive performance from Swisston who really need to be competitive in games like this if they ever want a shot at going above .500 on the season. The next two weeks should give Swisston a chance of turning their season back around and give them a chance to get some positive momentum before the Mighty Eagles in week five. Our next two opponents in Lekenik and Richmond are a combined 0-4 and Swisston needs to get to 2-2 with these two give me games if they want a shot at something special this season. Right now alarm bells are sounding in Kohnhead's 4th most populous city.

It’s a rainy Friday night here in Ratzupalfu, and we’re having the Egrets hosting the Blue Thunder tonight! Last year, these two games split their games, with the Thunder winning 40-29 in Istria, and the Egrets winning 43-16 in the Jungledrom off of the back of four running touchdowns, three of them by Banijan superstar Zamandi Ayana. Ayana will surely be the focal point of the offense tonight as well in the pouring rain, with the Thunders’ Wemusa Nakato leading a group of extremely talented running backs including also “The Ball” Jackson and Manne Nordström. Despite the fact that the Thunder have the Egrets out-QBd, with senior Craig Juniper from Baker Park surely a better passer compared to Bollonichian junior Tye Stark, this might not matter as much, given that passing in the pouring rain of the Jungledrom will be a tricky endeavour.

We’ll see whether the 2-4-5 defensive setup of the Thunder will be able to stop Ayana effectively, with the 4-3-4 the Egrets are running probably better suited to quickly stuff the run. It’ll surely be a big day for Nellie Griffin, the young Chromatik freshman who looked great at MLB against Northern Dinagat State, being a crucial part to the shutout, but this second college game of hers will be against the reigning Celestia champions; surely a different level of competition. On the Thunders’ side, the most important defensive player is always Abram Fairbanks, Ranorian senior, who was the Defensive player of the year last season. Junior Right Tackle Kyle Kes will surely have a tough task ahead of him.

[…]

56 seconds remain on the clock for the Blue Thunder, trailing 13-16 against the Egrets. After the touchback, the Thunder around Craig Juniper will be taking over on the 25, completely out of timeouts following a strong drive by the Egrets finished by the third field goal by Kevin Han, after Zamandi Ayana expanded on his 100-yard game that also featured a lead-changing third quarter touchdown. Less than a minute for the Thunder to send this game into overtime; Juniper will have to rely on his arm that has thrown two picks along one touchdown so far in the pouring rain of the Ratzupalfu night.
Juniper drops back, quick dump-off to Wemusa Nakato, he tries to get to the side-line, shoved out of bounds by Edith St. Clair; the Thunder now have 2nd and 4 from the 31. Haashid el-Mady, sophomore Thunder kicker, is practicing what could be his third field goal to tie up this game. Juniper in shotgun, looking, looking, throws to the sideline, and a beautiful catch by Rachel Emerson near midfield! Great pass, just out of reach of Desiderata Kelly. The Thunder have to get a play off fast, clock ticking, Juniper spikes the ball, just under 25 seconds left on the clock, just outside of field goal range. Juniper, drops back, looking, throws, and PICKED OFF, picked off, Li Xuen makes the play! Pass intended for Faraba Condeh, and the Egrets ice the game! Just barely underthrown by Juniper, his third interception on the day, the second to the Chromatik corner, and Tye Stark will get to kneel out the clock! The Egrets win, improving to 2-0 thanks to two big Jungledrom wins!

Two games in, everything is clicking. Sure, we miss the presence of Jere Rinaldi and Sheila Pantoja, but the squad looks rejuvenated as ever. Whether it's Liana Anderson or Haruno Masakazu behind center, the offense is running on all cylinders - Gabriele Ziegler is a threat out of the backfield and Lana Rhodes is carrying everyone as she carries the ball - and they're taking chunks of time out of the clock whenever they do it.

It's been interesting playing the corner role on such an aggressively defensive team. We're asked to handle our charges one-on-one, with almost no safety help, as either one or both of them are almost always crashing the line. It's a challenge, but it's one I relish; I even took one back to the house today.

Now, we have our first home game at Johnston Memorial - against Sadeg State. The Skyhawks lost to the Firehawks, and then shut out the Stonecutters. It'll be one of two teams that we need to contend with - the other being Felswyr State - to repeat as Champions.

I daresay we're ready for this. It's Liana's turn to start, and with Haruno having done so well, the former High School Gridiron MVP has her work cut out for her.

Under the circumstances, the ice bucket bath felt like heaven for Mark Hardesty.

The manager of the Joe Gibbs University gridball team just watched his team put the finishing touches on a 23-7 victory over Silverleaf University that wasn't just an end to an 0-2 start to the team's first NSCF and Sequoia Conference season, but it was an upset over a ranked team. And it wasn't just any upset. It was an away result against the defending conference champions Silverleaf University, whose fall from grace after a 9-1 conference record continued almost unabated.

He'd just watched his team harass Goblins quarterback Austin Garner into a 13-for-30 day with just 184 net yards passing to go along with six sacks totalling 44 yards lost and three interceptions. He'd watched his team limit Silverleaf to just 23 yards on the ground on 18 carries. He'd watched his team hold what was a high-powered offence off the scoreboard until a meaningless 34-yard touchdown in garbage time from the arm of backup quarterback Savannah Willis to wide receiver Anjelica Waller. His team even managed a safety when Garner was called for intentional grounding in the end zone on a sequence that saw two penalties on the Goblins on the same play.

"It felt like a long time coming, didn't it?" Hardesty said. He smirked as he used a hand towel to wipe some moisture out of his hair. "I tell ya, I don't mind this at all given the circumstances."

The Cyclones got on the scoreboard first when their quarterback Joyce Logano evaded a Goblins pass rush and fired a 54-yard strike to wide receiver Cliff Denholm down the right sideline. He cut toward the middle of the pitch and ran untouched to give the Cyclones the lead. That early strike energised the defence, which forced Garner to overthrow Tracy Noel up the middle on a third-and-18 deep in Goblins territory. The Cyclones pressured the punt and Estanislao Ramsey got off a poor 34-yard punt off the side of his foot that gave the Cyclones a first down at their own 48-yard line. Three plays later, Logano hit Kent Ellard for a 22-yard scoring strike that ended the first quarter with the Cyclones ahead 14-0.

On the last play of the third quarter, the Cyclones got their greatest reward for the pressure they inflicted on Garner. On a third-and-13 play from their own five-yard line, he dropped back and tried to look for Jinny Nelson down the right sideline. However, the Cyclones pass rush kept him from rolling out to either side and he threw the ball in Nelson's vicinity hoping to avoid a sack in the end zone, but he saw two yellow flags on the ground after his pass attempt fell incomplete. The Ranorian referee would make the announcement.

"There are two fouls on the play, both on the offence. Holding, number 62, offence. That penalty is declined. Intentional grounding, number two, offence. That foul occurred in the end zone. It will be accepted. The result of the foul is a safety." He then clasped his open palms together over his head to indicate the signal for a safety, which made the score 16-0 Cyclones. Following the free kick to being the fourth quarter, the Cyclones closed out their scoring with a 21-yard touchdown run from T'Juan Rollings that pushed him over 100 yards on the day. He would finish with 23 carries for 118 yards and that touchdown. He also caught five balls for 53 yards.

The Cyclones would finally earn a win as they prepared to face off against the University of the Hampton Cities Brawlers before their highly-anticipated contest against Woodstock University. Speaking of the Sarzonian school, they won their battle of the unbeatens by outracing Upper Westside University 54-34 to improve to 3-0. The Climbers will travel to Norris Stadium to face the Goblins on Matchday 4 before the Sarzonian rivalry matchup at sold out Friedgen Stadium, where the Climbers are 8-0 since their inaugural NSCF season last time out.

Constantinople 10 7 7 9 30
Green City 3 7 7 3 20

Gritty Effort Leads Binturongs to Second Win in NSCF 26
Preseason coverage of the 'nople football team centered on two themes; the difficulty of building a team from scratch in a single offseason, and the compounding difficulty of playing in the shadow of Curtis Decker's Redbirds, who exceeded all expectations in their debut season by becoming bowl eligible and narrowly losing the Mineral Conference title on tiebreakers. Three games into the season, the 'rongs have the same number of wins as the Redbirds, and while their win over the Green City University Royal Eagles may not have been as dramatic, there can be no doubt that the 'rongs earned their result.

The Royal Eagles won the toss and elected to receive, earning a few promising-looking first downs before getting stuffed at their own 45 and forced to punt. On the ensuing drive, the 'rongs similarly made progress but fell short, settling for a fifty-yard field goal by Romero to score the first points of the game. The lead was eliminated, however, by a routine field goal by the Royal Eagles on the very next drive.

The 'rongs' triple option offense failed to produce much early on, with Kenan Holt's runs being limited to gains of one or two or even tackles for loss. Josh Gonzalez went one-for-five on passes in the first quarter, reducing the number of options in the triple-option. It was good, then, that Holt's and Gonzales's former New Gesem Pilgrims teammate Lee Ryan was on the other side of the ball; the "monster" back called an audible on third down, managed to get a pick over the middle, and then outmaneuvered the Green City backfield to run his interception back for a touchdown.

Down by a touchdown, the Royal Eagles' offense picked up a rhythm in the second quarter, putting together two impressive but fruitless drives before Prince-Brown managed to push the pile at the goal line for the first Green City touchdown. Constantinople would be unable to answer until close to half-time, when the team's two-minute drill led to a rushing TD on a quarterback sneak from Gonzalez.

The teams traded touchdowns early in the third quarter, with Gonzales finding juco transfer Carlson in the corner to extend the 'rongs' lead, only to have Mercy Oshoala score on a bubble screen on the very next drive and keep the game within one score. Both defenses stepped up in the second half, forcing the teams to kick field goals. Romero's leg proved more productive than Oparanozie's, and the 'rongs would finish the game up by 10.

'nople will next play Trent State before finishing out the first half of the season with a much-anticipated Gesemite rivalry match against the Alexandroupolis Redbirds.

"It's too Damn Easy Today!" Proclaims Gideon Kearse as Richardson, Kohnhead City Bludgeon Each Other For Sixty Minutes of Hard-Nosed Football

Image
Gideon Kearse hadn't recorded a sack coming into this game, but would not be denied on Kohnhead City's final snap, pushing through to bring down Rowenna Hastroff even after his helmet was ripped off

Every college football coaching hire is supposed to have an animating idea behind it: This coach is an offensive maestro, or he majors in stout defense, or he's an ace recruiter, or maybe a perfect fit for the team's culture. When Richardson promoted Kasen Harrowitz after NSCF 25, there were a few. First, he's a true defensive mastermind. Second, he knew how to coach a physical, nasty brand of football that the school has always preferred. One could ask - how is this any different than the prior lead man? Youth and buzz can only take you so far, even if the consensus by then was that Richardson was spinning their tires and needed to make a move.

Well that's where point three comes in - Kasen Harrowitz authored the revolutionary defense of the Felswyr State Firehawks, a defense that helped them take the NSCF by storm and has helped them to dominate Kohnhead City to the tune of the Mighty Eagles taking just one win in seven tries against the Firehawks. At the professional level, every team is built first and foremost to win their division. So why not focus on the conference here?

This isn't one of those rivalries that primarily exists to deepen the athletic department's pockets and get a little bit of media hype beforehand, and it isn't one where you're going to see players shaking hands in the middle of the field after. Maybe the coaches - Milton Donnelly and Kasen Harrowitz are a classy couple of men - but that isn't to say they like each other.

Harrowitz, unlike Richard Steinheil, Harrowitz didn't feed the media frenzy in his interviews, spitting back the same verbiage he always does about execution, doing your job, et cetera. He left the trash talk to his players - traditionalist squad or not, the young men and women of this team can only bite their tongue for so long. When the Mighty Eagles got the ball to start, Gideon Kearse beat Danielle Raynor off the snap and brought down Rowenna Hafstroff for a loss. Not that Kohnhead City was deterred. They set the tone early and made it clear that regardless of the outcome, the game would be a tour de force by linemen on either side. With Rowenna Hastroff averaging eight yards per carry in week one and a stunning 12 per tote in week 2, they had no reason to try and change things up.

Many teams would be rattled by that early big play, with a future first round pick like Gideon Kearse beating his chest in celebration, but not these guys. They'd grown accustomed to Richardson throwing punches, and accustomed to punching back harder. Hastroff took the next carry for nearly thirty yards before Totte Lindberg managed to catch up and bring her down. The big run was nice, but after losing yards on each of the next two plays again, the Mighty Eagles looked to a budding superstar in Emilee Johansson, who hit Kalu Alazar on a sharp slant route that put nearly floored Karl Fortis. Again it would be Lindberg that made the play just short of the first down marker, but it was enough to notch an early field goal.

Four runs to one pass to start things off. No worries though, Richardson got the memo. It would be their horses up front who would carry their own offense game. Left tackle Travis Handon, left guard Uzziah Amondi, center Brandon Roche, right guard Chris Grey, and right tackle Brian Shipman were magnificent throughout the day, paving the way for 2 rushing touchdowns and 226 yards on 51 carries - most by way of Elliot Roach. That was despite a nasty Kohnhead City front that refused to give an inch to their heated conference rivals.

Something just, clicked in my mind at some point during this one. If you just run through somebody's face...not many people are gonna be able to take that. But if you do it again, even fewer. So I told coach I'm gonna do it again, and again, and again and again until there's just nobody left that can.

-Elliot Roach at his post-game presser

Image
Running lanes were hard to come by in a hard-fought battle up front, but Elliot Roach made do, tallying his 2nd game of 140+ rushing yards and multiple touchdowns on the season

Astrid Verona threw the ball a season-low 18 times in this one, though she did carry the ball 9 times for 40 yards and avoided turning the ball over.

Both coaches seemed more than happy to let the meaner team win, and they'd hear no complaints from the likes of Kaiser Belfort, Gideon Kearse, Dakota Cannon, or Robert Lawrence, who all recorded at least one tackle for loss in this one. Belfort lives for this kind of contest and showed it by soaking up runs from KCU's option offense to the tune of 17 tackles on the day, helping Richardson to establish a 17-6 lead midway through the fourth quarter. With he and Kearse reveling in the physicality, eventually his composure slipped. On a third down inside Kohnhead City's twenty, Belfort nailed Emilee Johansson well after she threw the ball away, resulting in a 15 yard penalty.

The Mighty Eagles went on to drive all the way down to the twenty one, but elected to take a field goal on fourth down, and trust their defense to get the ball back. They nearly didn't, Roach chewing the clock down at an alarming rate before Samuel Church was brought down into the box and made an incredible tackle for loss, darting between the line as the ball was snapped to bring him down. Richardson was forced to punt, and Johansson - with under three minutes on the clock and no timeouts now - was forced to go to work.

In one of the more spectacular quarterbacking drives we've seen so far in NSCF 26, she did just that, dicing up a talented Richardson secondary and showing plenty of pocket composure despite her athleticism on the way down to the twelve yard line...where things got a bit more dicey. Kasen Harrowitz's defense stiffened up hard to force a fourth down at that point, up 17-9, and KCU had no choice but to pass.

Unfortunately for Emilee Johansson, she never had a chance. While big tackles Danielle Raynor and Deidre Gott had kept Gideon Kearse and Kaspar Ulvestad in check to this point, the former ran a pick stunt, with freshman tackle Malchiel Lukwiya knifing from his spot in the B gap to attack Gott's hip with the tackle's earhole as his aim point. For a guy as quick as Kearse (even with his size) that was more than enough of an opening, and he even had time to load up before launching into the quarterback's chest, violently forcing her into the turf and ending the game right there with his first sack of the season. Kearse immedietely tore off his helmet, running to the sideline chanting "It's too damn easy today! They didn't want it! They didn't want it!" Along with, once he reached the sideline and embraced backup defensive end Felix Henderson, "It's over! I say when it ends!"

Wasn't hard for the camera crews to pick up on that one with the gutted Chicken King Stadium crown as silent as it was. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty pushed the Governors back to the eight yard line, but a kneeldown would ultimately seal the deal here as Richardson is off to a 3-0 start, and will project to be undefeated going into their matchup against Cold Hill for the second straight season.

Cold Hill Pitches Second Shutout In First Three Games, Offense Finally Looks Like They're Alive

Image
Safety Aldon Jameson of the Buffalo

Good timing for the offense to figure out what the hell they're doing - because the Buffalo have a pissed off Kohnhead City to deal with in Chicken King Stadium next week. They've already dropped one at home to Richardson University, and they won't be keen on the idea of losing another home game period, much less against a fellow contender in the hyper-competitive Big 8.

Robin Sterling had his biggest game of the season by far, finishing the contest 27/39 with 343 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns while slashing up the Blue Dragons on the ground to the tune of 8 carries for 63 yards and another score. While there had been some concern after he had just two touchdowns to his name through week 2, he appears to have taken a step forward in mastering this offense, and consistently drove his team into field goal range as well, with Bo-Ah Jang going 7/7 total on kicks.

Between his breakout game and Alexander Østby continuing to have a quietly productive season with his third touchdown of the season, this Buffalo offense may just live up to the hype as we get into midseason. The biggest surprise though has to be the lack of displeasure we've heard from the receiving core at their lack of production. Nikolas Isaksen had a dominant season in NSCF 25, hauling in 82 receptions, 1,324 yards, and 11 scores, even breaking the Buffalo record for receiving yards in a game. He only scored his first touchdown of the season against Lekenik, and hadn't uttered a word of complaint. Not a peep from the Chromatik-led defense regarding the offense's lack of production - where last season Koman Tabor very physically let quarterback Aurel Strathos know how he felt about it.

And Robin Sterling? He's taken the criticism in stride. No lashing out at reporters and no forcing himself into bad situations playing hero ball to try and make up for it. He's doing his thing and emerging as a leader in what could be one of the least raucous Cold Hill locker rooms we've seen since the Thorn Davis era.

Otherwise, this game is just an encouraging showing as the Buffalo prepare for Cold Hill. Head coach Chris Dale has deflected any praise the media sends his team's way, stating that regular season victories mean nothing come playoff time, but he himself has commended his defense's incredible play through this point. Led by Ferrett and Mio - who nabbed her first interception on the season while still not having allowed a reception - they've got all the weapons they need to make this team even more special than the group in NSCF 25.

Summary: It's a mess in one of the most even Conferences in the nation as Pelar High School losing, Twin Cities losing, and Rainbow Central winning twice means that everyone is either 3-2 or 2-3 at the halfway point of the season. The Rhinos and the Hurons are the teams with the best point differentials, especially with the Rhinos having won their last two. The second half will be what matters the most in this conference that will likely not see a single team ranked until the playoffs. With QB Steven Brenoir stepping up his game, it's the Rhinos that seem best poised to recover, though Hurons RB Jacoby Laure-Brissett is also playing pretty well. Things are wide open.

Knetyohai City High School 23–25 Chromatik Army High School
South Sanar High School 30–0 Jerome A. Samuelson High School
Summary: The Recruits have separated from the field at the halfway point, having outdueled the Riflemen by virtue of Recruits QB Kenzie Jones scoring two touchdowns late in the game. Then, with DE Oswin Jackson, Jr. having four sacks against the Peregrines, they barely escaped. South Sanar, with Xavier Widdle leading the way, have won the last two games to improve to second place. With the Riflemen falling down two pegs - Penat High School's Kandice Mott scored on a QB sneak with time expiring - the Riflemen find themselves near the bottom of the standings, and all but out of the national rankings.

Mt. Baker High School 9–13 Winter Heights High School
Z'ai'ai Central High School 23–34 Mt. Niar High School
Summary: Mt. Niar isn't going anywhere. The Anacondas win on a last-minute field goal against the Abominable Snowmen, and then dominate the Hooligans on the road to remain perfect. Anacondas QB Victor Rowles has really improved, and the team is rallying around him. Randan is the surprise of the conference so far - MLB Lyle "The Hammer" Zokia has been playing like a player possessed, and Freshman QB Kenny Goto has shocked everyone. The Rapiers surely can't keep this up, can they? The Hooligans will need to retool and refocus, having suffered a humiliating defeat to Randan. Also, keep an eye on Winter Heights - narrow wins are wins, nonetheless.

Dynasty High School 22–32 Brisara Trade School
City of Umbar High School 17–27 Umbar Hills High School
Summary:What happened to Umbar Hills in Matchday Four? The Royals came into town and utterly wiped the floor, Sandra Hooper forcing three turnovers; then, the Grizzlies took care of business against the Monkeys to remain atop the conference. The Businessmen took the time to tie up the Grizzlies atop the standings, but the head to head victory will count; QB Rico Divalles being guarded by LG Pan Guya, with RB Tary McLauren on the backfield, Brisara Trade School has built a formidable program. As long as the team that faced the Royals don't show up, the Grizzlies should be fine.

MD5
West Shantarr High School 47–10 Dragon High School
Pùr Equestrian School 32–17 Anfanhar High School
East Shantarr High School 24–13 Pùr Heights High School
Summary: Another conference in total disarray, Everybody won one and lost one in these two matches, drawing the conference level at 3-2 and 2-3. West Shantarr is still the best team around - the Scorpions have suffered narrow defeats, but have a +88 point differential, led by WR Enox Silverman. The Order, to their credit, have a bruising back in RB Benjamin Merik - and whomever wins between the two in the second leg will probably win the conference in the regular season.

MD5
Crix Arts Institute 21–16 Cheonju High School
Lorentine Central High School 29–10 City of Lorentine High School
Cheonju Korean Institute 16–27 Crix Technical High School
Summary: How is Crix Arts Institute still hanging on? RB Ren Gyung is carrying this squad, but it's the Chameleons and the Red Devils that have looked the sharpest. Keep an eye on QB San Coreen, who's been lighting up the scoreboards; it was the Chameleons that prevailed at CKI's home field, though, as Junior OLB Asmodel Propleier owned the field. The last of the teams up top is the Wizards - having done in by losing to the Artisans in overtime and been dominated by their rivals in the Majestics as the Wizards couldn't get anything going.

MD5
Harbor High School 6–14 Pride Academy
Anderson H. Kim High School 10–13 Rhoni School of Architecture
Lhor Central High School 48–16 East Rhoni High School
Summary: Gradients, huh? Amira Kong's averaging two touchdowns a game on the ground, MLB Paul Ettinburgh is helping out, and with everyone else not playing that well, RSoA is really doing well. East Rhoni looked like it was starting to do better, until they ran into a buzzsaw at Lhor Central, Junior DE Kyra Bones and Sophomore Aurana Mikel all over the Kayaks' offense. What's happened to the Shipmen? Losing to RSoA is okay given how well the Gradients are playing, but the loss to Pride Acadey was a farce - Junior RB Declan Hammond fumbling three times in the defeat.

Coastal Academy of the Arts 7–20 West Rhoni High School
J. H. Yadasky High School 25–20 Compass Coastal Academy
City of Larhai High School 27–29 Coast Guard High School
Summary: The Guards are still on top of the conference, though the Point Differential really shows that they are struggling. Junior DT Gerry Hawthorne has been playing his heart out, but with the pressure being exerted by the Warhawks, who've bounced back with two victories in a row, with Isaiah Hunter throwing to Darian Pollard at the end of the game against City of Larhai and them utterly controlling the match against Coastal Academy, it'll be hard pressed to see the Scultpures win. If not the Warhawks, the Heroes have Sophomore RB Isaiah Candy to thank them being in a good position, while the Sculptures have Senior QB Jake Lehomme.

Myana Central High School 14–33 Myana Northwestern High School
Myana Southeastern High School 27–3 Pier High School
Summary: Myana Northwestern is back. MLB Kerron Nicholas is playing out of his mind, as the team shut out Anchors Academy and controlled Myana Central. With Navy Academy, Myana Southeastern, and Pier High just behind them, they will have to make sure they don't falter; but it might be safe to say that one of the best programs in the country is back.

Summary: The Inquisitors are who lead the conference at the halfway point, Junior QB Theodore Hawkson playing mistake-free ball and the defense doing what it can; the Barracudas have QB Kya Cheri while the Cats have Eza Danielson. For the Reef, it's been a disappointing season so far - they're scoring enough, but their defense is like a sieve.

Summary: Just like that, it's the Rangers and the Battle Angels atop the conference, having won both of their games here; Qet High School being contained by the Battle Angels was a sight to see as Senior FS Harold Hynes had a great game. The others still in the mix are the same Pumas that have been so disruptive to the conference, Senior QB Marik Ferr still playing well, while the Wights are also holding on, contrary to expectation. It's the Shooting Stars that have just fallen apart.

Summary: Dropping their first game of the season to Northern Urrheddiao, the Fog Wall have fallen down a step, while the Sand Vipers and the Knives have gained. The Knives have Junior RB Matthias Sandoval to thank, while the Sand Vipers are enjoying Eduard Hickson's play. If Northern Urrheddiao can get on a roll, they might be able to make some noise, but time is running out.

Summary: What a game between the Spectrum and the Robots, as Sophomore QB Jerrar Jay scored on a last minuee pass to Sophomore TE Tarry Osweiler; East Omnio continues to cruise with easy wins, the Geomancers' Lance Ott completing the trifecta of good Quarterbacks with Jay and Mtupeni Onwuatuegwu of the Vitoron School of Charge Robots. Summary: Oh, Masterminds. Nobody thought you'd be this good. A defense led by Senior DT Mack Honnack and Junior SS Peter Rundstead has been very stout while the offense has done just enough. The Cruisers are the biggest threat they have - QB Mikayla Anne is a gunslinger, after all - while the Drills have fallen back a few pegs, having been blown out by the Cruisers.

Summary: The Defenders are ahead of schedule, Senior Center Everett Jones and Left Tackle Trevor Marr plowing the way for new Running Back Sophomre Kimo Harr. North Chromia and South Chromia are a step behind, the Terror having won the head-to-head battle; Mark Hansoff has the team playing at a high enough level that could be one of the better teams in South Chromia history. The similarity between the previous NSCF season for Woodstock City College is the early slate of matches often features high-scoring affairs that give defensive coordinator Chris Hoskins the cold sweats.

In some regards, that's where the similarities end for the school now renamed Woodstock University. Sure, the Climbers have played two consecutive barnburners in a row, but instead of being 2-2 after four matches, this Climbers side have now won three matches from three thus far in the Sequoia Conference season after a 54-34 victory against Upper Westside University out of Saint Kanye.

Hoskins pointed out that the previous season saw the Climbers play much better defensively in the second half, in particular as the postseason began looming. The Climbers beat storied Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria sides in Banija, becoming just the second school to accomplish that feat in NSCF history. They held the two elite college gridball programmes to a combined 33 points with Northern Moravica advancing to the championship game before falling to eventual champions Raynor University out of Valanora. Yes, the same Raynor University that ended the Climbers season in the quarterfinals.

"We're certainly not pleased to have conceded 85 points in three matches," Hoskins said. "You can't expect to win too often when your points-per-match average against is over 28." Even though the Climbers offence have averaged just a hair under 45 points per contest, Hoskins is well aware that figure is likely not sustainable. He said he and manager James Arthur would spend time together to work on straightening out the defence.

"Some of that's been blown assignments," Hoskins said. "Jim and I will figure things out and we'll improve on that front."

As for the match against the Red Pandas, it only felt like the bulk of the time the Climbers offence was on the pitch was in their red zone. The Climbers won the time of possession battle 31 to 29, but the star of the show was quarterback Cal Barkley. He completed 21-of-29 passes for 344 yards and five touchdown passes before sitting out the final quarter and a half with the Climbers already ahead 47-17. The Red Pandas got a couple of garbage time scores and freshman quarterback Brad Tunney tossed a scoring strike from nine yards out to provide the final margin of victory.

The Climbers will play their next match against a Silverleaf University side that may well be considered a rival after the Goblins embarrassed Woodstock in their first meeting at Norris Stadium with a 51-17 win before the Climbers returned the favour at Friedgen Stadium, where the Climbers are currently 8-0. The Goblins won the conference with a 9-1 record in the inaugural season for both sides, but Silverleaf collapsed once the non-conference schedule began. They went 0-3 in non-conference regular season matchups before getting goose-egged in the playoffs. The Goblins are currently 1-2 after losing to Joe Gibbs University 23-7 at Norris Stadium.

The fact that the Goblins have gone 1-6 since the NSCF 25 Sequoia Conference schedule ended is not on Arthur's mind as he prepares his team for the matchup.

"We're looking to do a much better job this time at their place," he said. "Last season is last season. We've got something to prove this year."

Compared to Silverleaf's struggles after the conference slate ended, Woodstock thrived. They went 2-1 outside of the conference including back to back victories with that Northern Moravica win coming in front of the Banijan Kabaka and Sarzonian President Haffner. They earned a three-point upset win in the playoffs over Loyola-Istria, earning the Climbers the unofficial Banijan national championship before falling to Raynor University. Since the Climbers' 7-3 conference record in their debut campaign, Woodstock have gone 6-2.

"We know the work is only just beginning," Barkley said. "Silverleaf is going to be a serious test, and then we've got Gibbs. That's going to be intense."
