Coaching staff:

Head coach:
Addo Uster (Banija), 45
The young coordinator spent a few years being the linebackers coach for the Lwanga Rhinos in the GFLB, before ascending to run the Banijan national team defense at World Bowl XL & XLI. Running a 3-4 defense that meshed with Ranorian HC Thomas Hall, Hall brought him on because he thought Uster would be a great culture fit. A promising GFLB career that was cut short by an ACL tear at age 25, and then a MCL tear on the same knee at age 27, he brings with him a ferocious intensity and a high amount of energy. He values man to man physical defense, and getting pressure on the quarterback. He is known to be a very aggressive playcaller. After coordinating elite defenses under a defensive minded head coach at the last two World Bowls, he looks to take the reigns as a head man his very first time at Elephant Valley University. In his first season, he managed to get the inexperienced Red Elephants to 5-5 in an extremely difficult Celestia conference that featured 4 top-12 schools. After his first season clocking in at 5-8, he improved the team to 7-6 in the following season, leading to them losing at their first ever bowl game.

Offensive coordinator:
Oliver Russo, 39
Offensively, the Red Elephants run a system fairly balanced between the pass and the run. The starting formation utilises a fullback, but there will also be plenty of plays with two Tight Ends or three wideouts.
Defensive coordinator:
Christopher Chavez, 41
Defensively, the Red Elephants run a 3-4 bend-but-don’t-break defense focused on preventing big plays. They will also have a below average blitz rate.
Special Teams coordinator:
Vernon Sykes, 43
In general, the team is fairly conservative on fourth down, and runs relatively few trick plays.

OFFENSE (starters in bold)

Quarterbacks:
QB1: #7 Jacob Herron (Chromatika) (junior) Major: Economics
QB2: #4 Alexander Lott (junior) Major: History
QB3: #16 Jamal English (junior) Major: Political Science
Herron is a pocket passer who isn't very good outside the pocket, but has decent field vision. The Chromatik junior is going into his third season as the starter for the Red Elephants. Last season, he recorded 18 touchdowns against just 9 interceptions. Additionally, he’s starting to become a great game manager, profiting heavily from Lawson’s ability to set up play action.

Running Backs:
RB1: #1 Gauge Lawson (Ranoria) (senior) Major: Engineering (also Ass-kicking)
RB2: #83 Marco Jones (Chromatika) (senior) Major: Physics
RB3: #12 Thomas Gerhart (Delaclava) (junior) Major: Government
Lawson, a junior that used to play for North Haven, is the number one Running Back on a team that will likely run the ball a lot. He scored 5 touchdowns last year, including a kick return touchdown, before being side-lined with a knee injury for the second half of the season. The power back has support from Jones, one of many players from Chromatika, a bulldozing running back with size who likes to run through tackles, and Delaclav sophomore Gerhart, a power back who is versatile for all situations but is best suited for third down and goal line runs. Jones stepped in following Lawson’s injury, and while he couldn’t quite replace the Ranorian, he recorded three touchdowns of his own.

Fullbacks:
FB1: #89 Apisaloma Toleafoa (Tikariot) (senior) Major: Business Administration
FB2: #82 Shawn Harvey-Chandler (senior) Major: Social Work
Like the other Tikariotians on this roster, Toleafoa from the Cardannon Archipelago, and can also be used as a fourth running back. As the position is being phased out of the playbook bit by bit, Toleafoa is seeing less and less action, combining for only 9 touches last season, but he continues to be a solid run-blocker for Lawson. Harvey-Chandler is even less likely to see any action.

Tight Ends:
TE1: #81 Amara Pond (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Business
TE2: #80 Kevin Nissen (Delaclava) (junior) Major: Sports Medicine
TE3: #17 Dex van Vliet (The Licentian Isles) (sophomore) Major: History
Amara Pond, the former #12 ranked prospect in Chromatika, is a great run blocker, a decent pass blocker, and a more than serviceable receiver; she proved this by accounting for the fourth-most targets, including a touchdown, in her freshman year. Nissen, the Delaclav junior, has got good hands, but has much room for improvement as a blocker. Lastly, the Red Elephants also recruited van Vliet, a former rugby player from the Licentian Isles, who will probably get to focus on his history degree in his second year with the team.

Wide Receiver:
WR1: #14 Gabriel Yafet (Banija) (sophomore) Major: International Marketing
WR2: #5 RJ Hall (Ranoria) (freshman) Major: Sports Management
WR3: #9 Aron Schapiro (Ha'Yarok) (senior) Major: Economics
WR4: #18 Adam Parker (junior) Major: Business
WR5: #87 Victoire Wilkinson (freshman) Major: Political Science
With de Laramie the undisputed number one target in the two prior seasons, graduating after an 11-TD season, Gabriel Yafet, a Banijan sophomore out of Resurrection High School, will be asked to step up as the top receiver. He’s got all the characteristics of a future superstar; the size, the speed, the hands, and the work ethic. He's even got the particular attitude characteristic of #1 wideouts at the pro level, as he's known for extravagant touchdown celebrations. He could be a superstar for the Red Elephants and frequent target for Herron in the future, as he proved in his freshman year as WR2 with the second-most targets and 5 touchdowns. The former third receiver on the roster, Tikariotian Pulefaasisina, who was also the third-most common target for Herron, graduated as well. That leaves Aron Schapiro, the only student on EVU from Ha’Yarok, as WR3, who will be asked to play in the slot a lot in his senior year. Parker is an option as a deep threat, while Wilkinson is a young development piece. She will mostly be a gunner for Special Teams in her freshman season.

Centers:
C1: #63 Ben Yakisama (Chromatika) (senior) Major: Linguistics
C2: #60 Dion Young (senior) Major: Business
Yakisama, yet another Chromatik starter, will play at center. He’s a fairly mobile lineman who can pull out to be in front of runners and likes to bulldoze people. He played very well last season, and will hopefully keep up the good protection for Herron. Dion Young, meanwhile, heads into his second year with the team, also used as a long snapper.

Guards:
LG1: #77 Aaron Jameson (Chromatika) (freshman) Major: Sports Psychology
LG2: #72 Ajark-Zenon Guv (Qusmo) (sophomore) Major: Business
RG1: #62 Dan Tucker (senior) Major: Education
RG2: #64 Ricky Carr (junior) Major: Political Science
Dan Tucker returns at Right Guard from last season, with the senior being a stable, albeit non-Chromatik presence in the O-Line. Jameson, meanwhile, is a new recruit from Lanar, hopefully following into the tradition of great Chromatik linemen for EVU, while Ajark-Zenon is a new addition as well. Jameson is best used as a pulling guard, carrying blocks to the second level to set up huge stretch runs that can leave the defense winded. Ricky Carr is returning from last year, but was moved to Right Guard, after playing LG last season.

Tackles:
LT1: #78 Ran Gomez (Chromatika) (freshman) Major: Accounting
LT2: #79 Lonnie Moran (junior) Major: Sports Management
RT1: #53 Georgine Pine (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Architecture
RT2: #75 Benjamin Sommer (junior) Major: Education
Georgine Pine, former #13 ranked prospect from Chromatika, specializes in the run game, where she was extremely useful for the Red Elephants last season. She may be on the small side, but she has the hands and the feet to make up for any size deficits. Ran Gomez was another new recruit for the Red Elephants; he’s Chromatik, so what could possibly go wrong.

DEFENSE (starters in bold)

Defensive Ends:
LE1: #93 Karen Hooper (Kohnhead) (junior) Major: Economics
LE2: #74 Brenda Macedo (freshman) Major: Linguistics
RE1: #61 Cody Hartman (Kohnhead) (sophmore) Major: Business
RE2: #98 Isaac Ferrer (freshman) Major: Law and Justice
Karen Hooper is a Kohnheadian who missed all of her senior season of high school with an ACL Tear, but played well and injury-free in her freshman and sophomore year for EVU, including recording a total of 9.5 sacks. She’s paired with another Kohnheadian recruit, Cody Hartman, who was the #6 recruit from Kohnhead, who added three sacks of his own in his freshman year.

Nose Tackles:
NT1: #95 Deandre Kelly (Ranoria) (sophomore) Major: Sports management
NT2: #99 Ne'igalomeatiga Esera (Tikariot) (senior) Major: Law
NT3: #97 Dominick Ford (sophmore) Major: Law and Justice
Deandre Kelly, former #9 recruit out of Ranoria, who is an especially good run blocker, is going into his second year after a strong performance last season, where he only got 1.5 sacks, but remained a constant presence regardless. Esera is heading into his third season with the team, and he continues to be a reliable, experienced option as well.

Linebackers:
LOLB1: #55 Sharon Jones-Beckett (Chromatika) (junior) Major: Mathematics
LOLB2: #90 Christian Baumann (sophomore) Major: Social Work
ROLB1: #48 Violet Daniels (senior) Major: Social Work
ROLB2: #57 Noah Kemp (junior) Major: Education
Chromatik sophomore Jones-Beckett, sure tackler who is very good in run support, will start alongside Daniels, a young South Newlandian senior who wants to be the first female player on the South Newlandian World Bowl team one day. She’s certainly got the talent to pull that off. The duo played is going into their third season together, with Jones-Beckett so far on dominating with 18 sacks, while Daniels contributed 12.5 over the same two-season window.

ILB1: #54 Sylax-Kresp Den (Qusmo) (junior) Major: History
ILB2: #59 Karl Hutmacher (Zeta Reka and Hügeltaldom) (senior) Major: Linguistics
ILB3: #47 Sean Manning (Nova Anglicana) (junior) Major: Psychology
ILB4: #44 Aputi Ala'ilima (Tikariot) (junior) Major: Computer Science
At Inside Linebacker, the team has four players of about equal strength. Sylax-Kresp, a strong Qusmi junior, and Hutmacher, who last played for the Sarkewaka School and was the defensive player of the season in the not so famous Zeta Reka Scholastic League. There was a lot of rotation between the four here, with Manning, a former rugby player who decided to try out for the gridiron team, and Tikariotian junior Ala’ilima getting some snaps as well. The Red Elephants could really use an experienced player here.

Cornerbacks:
CB1: #27 Mustafa Engström (Valanora) (freshman) Major: Legal Studies*
CB2: #22 David Patterson (Nova Anglicana) (freshman) Major: Sports Management
CB3: #29 Charles Raleigh (Ranoria) (sophomore) Major: Sports and Exercise
CB4: #42 Ryan Garnos (Sanford) (sophomore) Major: Physics
CB5: #37 Bill Coy (junior) Major: Business
At corner, the Red Elephants are seeing the most movement; with the top four corners from last season all graduating in the off-season. Engström, recruit out of Magnus Academy, will be asked to play CB1 from the get-go. At 6’4’’ and 197 lbs, accomoanied with his speed, he’s got the skill-set to do it, but being asked to cover stars like Jannik Nadine or Rachel Emerson in year one will be a tall order. Opposite of him, Patterson is a former rugby player, who is slightly undersized for the position, but the Nova Anglican is a dangerous player nevertheless. Raleigh, coming in as a Ranoria State transfer, will be used primarily as a slot corner, along Ryan Garnos, a newly added Sanfordian.

Safeties:
SS1: #38 Joshua Cox (Hannasea) (junior) Major: Biology
SS2: #46 Imaad May (sophomore) Major: Criminal Justice
FS1: #39 Jeremy Green (South Newlandia/Drawkland) (sophomore) Major: Business
FS2: #49 Conrad House (junior) Major: Communications
Joshua Cox, Hannasean junior, came into his own well as a strong safety; outperforming expectations although he probably can’t hold up to the best players in the competition.
At Free Safety, lost Mateus Parrish, who graduated with his Education degree. He will be replaced by sophomore Jeremy Green, son of a South Newlandian father and a Drawkian mother; giving him outstanding size and quick feet, but also a certain inattentiveness.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker:
K: #3 Mindy Jackson (Chromatika) (junior) Major: Journalism
Jackson is an accurate kicker who has decent range but is most reliable within forty-five yards. She went 23/26 on Field Goals last season, and also missed just one extra point.

Punter:
P: #6 Jonas Middleton (Chromatika) (junior) Major: Chemistry
Middleton is a booming punter who isn't the best in directional punts but can really get the ball to the other side of the field.

K/P: #15 Donny Branagan (Delaclava) (junior) Major: Public Health
Branagan, who used to be a high school striker, has a lot of distance and power but is still working on control. However, he maintains the same level of accuracy in high-pressure situations. Donny is also slowly realising that they’re backing up two Chromatik special teamers.

Kick Returner:
RB1: Gauge Lawson (Ranoria)

Punt Returner:
WR2: Gabriel Yafet (Banija)

Long snapper:
C2: Dion Young

Holder:
QB3: Jamal English

Coaching staff:

Head coach:
Walker Sparks (Kohnhead)
Sparks used to coach the national team of Kohnhead, but was fired after a couple seasons of failing to break through. The usually offensive-minded, pass-heavy coach will have to adjust to a major change of pace, not only switching to college football, but also in playstyle. The Egrets’ style is partially moulded by their playing conditions – the Jungledrom is exposed to the elements, and with frequent rain in Ratzupalfu, trying to pass in Ratzupalfu can be a tricky endeavour. This was shown in the first season, when Ratzupalfu went 3-2 at home, but 2-6 on the road.
Offensive coordinator:
Marco Oilsken, 50
Because of this, the Egrets will be heavily favouring the run over the pass, especially at home. There will be lots of action from the fullbacks, but, especially on the road or in dry weather, also a lot of play action. Still, expect a fullback on the field on the majority of plays from scrimmage.
Defensive coordinator:
Horst Ackermann, 37
Similarly, the 4-3 defense is focused on stifling the opposing ground game. There will be some blitzes, especially against pass-heavy opposition, but the Egrets are primarily focused on limiting yards on the ground.
Special Teams coordinator:
Emile Hendersen, 40

OFFENSE (starters in bold)

Quarterbacks:
QB1: #18 Tye Stark (Bollonich) (junior) Major: Philosophy
QB2: #17 Zachary Stevens (South Newlandia/TJUN-ia) (senior) Major: Liberal Arts
QB3: #12 Victor Köhler (senior) Major: Fisheries and Wildlife
Tye Stark, a Bollonichian, has the starting gig for the Egrets in the second season. The Philosophy major will work mostly on play action. His backup is Zach Stevens, who has a TJUN-ian father. The liberal arts major is taller, but less accurate of a passer.

Running Backs:
RB1: #8 Zamandi Ayana (Banija) (sophomore) Major: Public Health
RB2: #2 Thomas Fantikos (sophomore) Major: Law
RB3: #89 Lexus Jerome (Bollonich) (senior) Major: Ecology
Zamandi Ayana, is a top recruit from Banija. He’s a big, powerful running back who is going to put his head and shoulder down, and run right through anybody. He proved this by dominating as a true freshman, picking up no fewer than 18 touchdowns, pretty much putting the offense on his back. Fantikos was the #1 recruit out of South Newlandia (not a high bar to clear), he’s not big for a running back, but makes it work with his quick feet and general elusiveness, allowing him to break tackles and move the ball. He’s also good at holding on to the ball, and Fantikos ultimately scored 2 touchdowns as a true freshman. This 1-2 punch will share most of the workload, but Bollonichian senior Jerome is not to be underestimated either. One weakness of this group is that none of them are good options to catch a pass, which could be a weakness.

Fullbacks:
FB1: #7 Gennaro Giannelli (Quebec and Shingoryeo) (greshman) Major: Mathematics
FB2: #5 Calum Bruce (The Licentian Isles) (freshman) Major: Chemistry
FB3: #80 Al Lund (Sanford) (sophomore) Major: Communications
Newly recruited Quebecois greshman Gennaro Giannelli is a big dude. Calum Bruce, a former rugby player from The Licentian Isles, will be the second fullback for the Egrets. The Chemistry major certainly has the size to be a great blocker for Ayana and Fantikos.

Tight Ends:
TE1: #36 Evelyn Barristan (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Journalism
TE2: #83 Sandra Hillock (Chromatika) (freshman) Major: Journalism
TE3: #31 Perry Noble (sophomore) Major: Psychology
At Tight End, the Egrets managed to recruit Evelyn Barristan, the #22 ranked prospect in Chromatika, who proved a solid enough run blocker and caught a touchdown pass last season. To back her up, the Egrets recruited Sandra Hillock, a fantastic run blocker.

Wide Receiver:
WR1: #87 Jeremy Jefferson (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Zoology
WR2: #11 Nicole Irvine (Kohnhead) (sophomore) Major: Communications
WR3: #6 Lukasz Matusz (Delaclava) (sophomore) Major: Geopolitics
WR4: #22 Kevin Wells (junior) Major: Political Science
WR5: #28 Dominick Pleasants (sophomore) Major: Agriculture
The Wide Receiver room is stacked as well, with Zoology major Jefferson, who has decent quickness off the line but struggles with drops and just missed the top-25 recruits list as WR1. He scored 4 touchdowns as a freshman anyway. Nicole Irvine, #7 recruit from Kohnhead, is a slot receiver who was the best route runner in the nation last season almost always getting separation. Irvine doesn't have the size to play on the outside and her speed is something in the 4.4 area of a bit below giving her the ability to go deep often but not be a true burner. She will be the second WR, and moved to the slot on occasion; the Egrets hope for her to do the best she can despite being undersized. In her first year, she proved to be able to do this, scoring 2 touchdowns. Delaclavan Lukasz Matusz rounds out the group; he’s flamboyant and confident wideout with a flair for the one-handed and diving grabs He’s also really fast.

Centers:
C1: #64 Hakam al-Shaban (Mlima Kijani) (junior) Major: Film Studies
C2: #66 Alessio Adams (senior) Major: Biology
Hakam al-Shaban, a sophomore from Mlima Kijani, is the center for the Egrets. As a whole, the Offensive Line will likely be blocking for the running backs more than they try to prevent sacks.

Guards:
LG1: #60 Christian Eyre (Delaclava) (sophomore) Major: Fisheries and Wildlife
LG2: #53 Nyameko Ntlokwana (Mlima Kijani) (sophomore) Major: Law
RG1: #69 Lalo Pulefaasisina (Græntfjaller Multinesia) (sophomore) Major: Engineering
RG2: #63 Elian Mayer (sophomore) Major: Sociology
At Guard, the Egrets have Christian Eyre, who has a lot of strength and instinct for blocking, but is inexperienced and initially wanted to play in AO, so he might struggle with being far from his home. He’s backed up by another big guy from Mlima Kijani. On the other side, Lewis Whitfield’s graduation made space for the young, talented Lalo Pulefaasisina from the Græntfjaller Multinesia.

Tackles:
LT1: #55 Justin Doran (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Electrical Engineering
LT2: #57 John Trammell (junior) Major: Esportivan Politics
RT1: #67 Kyle Kes (junior) Major: Liberal Arts
RT2: #62 Parker Montez (junior) Major: Law and Justice
The biggest asset of the offensive line is Justin Doran, #23 ranked prospect from Chromatika. He’s highly physical though a bit brutish, he’s not very fast off the snap, but if he knows where he is going and he ends up getting there, he can really make his presence felt. Overall, this O-Line could still use some upgrades for future seasons, but this is to be expected on a new school.

DEFENSE (starters in bold)

Defensive Ends:
LE1: #56 Dražen Čarapić (Zelena Planina) (junior) Major: Languages
LE2: #95 Dylan Armstead (junior) Major: Political Science
RE1: #59 Ghatool Gujjar (Kkaputtstan) (senior) Major: Sports Science
RE2: #99 Artavis Hunt (senior) Major: Psychology
At Edge, the Egrets feature Čarapić and Gujjar. They prove how inclusive South Newlandia’s universities are, with students from all over the multiverse. Both of them may be from far away countries, but they’re both are in the middle of their degree and can rush a passer or defend a run.

Defensive Tackles:
DT1: #54 Otoln-Sevet Guv (Qusmo) (sophomore) Major: Education
DT2: #94 Jakob Horn (South Newlandia/Quebec and Shingoryeo) (junior) Major: Sports Management
DT3: #52 Zack Dortch (sophomore) Major: Chemistry
DT4: #97 Lenny Stein (sophomore) Major: Psychology
Otoln-Sevet is going into his second season for the Egrets after a strong freshman year. Horn, who has both a Quebecois and South Newlandian passport, will be the other Defensive Tackle.

Linebackers:
LOLB1: #93 Edith St. Clair (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Environmental Science
LOLB2: #41 Glenda Kelly (sophomore) Major: Education
ROLB1: #92 Keyaan Brandt (senior) Major: Geology
ROLB2: #44 Milo Günther (senior) Major: History
St. Clair is a pretty good blitzing linebacker who is best used going after the QB or RB in the backfield and not a very good coverage backer, while Brandt is one of the weaker players on the team. The geology major is going into his final year; getting a weapon opposite of St. Clair will be a priority for the Egrets. Nevertheless, St. Clair recorded 7 sacks as a freshman.

MLB1: #48 Nellie Griffin (Chromatika) (freshman) Major: Forensic Sciences
MLB2: #49 Milor-Kynda Roz (Qusmo) (sophomore) Major: Biology
MLB3: #4 Daniel Wagner (senior) Major: Zoology
Edison-Downs was, in many ways, the captain of the defense. While he’s not a phenomenal player by any means, the senior, who now has his communications degree, led the team in tackles, and he’s got extremely good people skills. He can really rally a defense, and he’s not too bad himself, either. His replacement will be Nellie Griffin, recruit from Felswyr, who’s even more talented that Edison-Downs, but will need to proof she’s capable of stepping up at that level. Milor-Kynda is a very serviceable backup if Griffin can’t.

Cornerbacks:
CB1: #30 Desiderata Kelly (Delaclava) (sophomore) Major: Meteorology
CB2: #37 Li Xuen (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Agriculture
CB3: #32 Bonifaco Nacu Manzano (Berdeng Bundok) (junior) Major: Geography
CB4: #13 Nigel Hendrix (senior) Major: Biology
CB5: #42 Gabriel Roberts (sophomore) Major: Elephantology
The secondary is likely the strong point of the defense, with Kelly, a well-rounded, shutdown corner who can hang with all kinds of receivers, recruited from Delaclavan Catherina East 127th High, and Li Xuen, a very tall corner who makes up for his lack of speed with his reach, expected to shut down most things; and Bonifaco Nacu Manzano is a suitable slot corner as well.

Safeties:
SS1: #29 Vralx-Rilan Ump (Qusmo) (sophomore) Major: Psychology
SS2: #33 Noah Richards (freshman) Major: Chemistry
FS1: #22 Strongbow Valdez (Delaclava) (sophomore) Major: Biology
FS2: #39 Fritz Schwartz (sophomore) Major: Ecology
Vralx-Rilan likes to blitz but can get lost in coverage and can be considered one of the projects for the coaching staff, but the young, talented safety could develop into a great player. Strongbow Valdez already is one, capable of making spectacular athletic plays, even when he tends to go for risky moves on occasion. The coaching staff will have to slow down the four freshman Defensive Backs a little bit to prevent them from going too wild, but they should be able to blossom into great players.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker:
K: #1 Kevin Han (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Chemistry
Han struggles with range (anything past 50 is sub-50) but is almost automatic below 40. Has a chance to grow in leg strength over time. Chromatik kickers are basically always very accurate, so this one should be, too. In his freshman year, he went 16 for 20 on Field Goals, with all four misses being long field goals, and 32/34 on Extra Points.

Punter:
P: #9 Yelto-Lapij Ivo (Qusmo) (sophomore) Major: Communications
Ivo has a decent enough leg, even though he isn’t the strongest punter out there; but as a result of being a former QB, he can be a wildcard for the odd trick play.

Kick Returner:
RB1: Zamandi Ayana

Punt Returner:
WR1: Jeremy Jefferson

Long snapper:
TE3: Perry Noble

Holder:
P: Yelto-Lapij Ivo

A Short Description of Crown’s College

Universities in Schima Bas differ greatly depending on their geographic location in the country. In the big cities, where higher education was first erected, universities were funded through private-public investment, and were known for having high standards and prioritizing studies. Through the country’s development, however, many foreigners wanted to see their type of university competition for their children.

Therefore, cities, especially Ourelasia, have one or more schools with a football program. There are not enough schools in Schima Bas that play football for a domestic league, so many teams, like the Crown’s College Royal Bears turn to international leagues.

Just because Schima Bas is not known for football does not mean that stadiums are empty or that players don’t want to come to colleges like Crown’s. In fact, a majority of the student body attends home matches, and fanbases have developed in major cities. It’s not uncommon to walk into a restaurant in Alquerdi, far from any of the football-playing colleges, and see a Royal Bears cap or shirt.

Crown’s College has an undergraduate population of 16,000. The university was a premier location for educated talent in the country before the civil war, and has been rebuilding in the wake of the conflict. The old home for the Royal Bears, Old Grant Field, was bombed during the war, and had to be demolished. For years, the Royal Bears did not play a home game. With an influx of Crown money, the university was able to redevelop itself and repair its damaged campus. Campus was opened again 2 years after the war had closed it.

New Grant Field, the recently constructed home of the Royal Bears, sits along the river, where an old association football stadium used to sit. A redevelopment of the area, a short boat-ride from campus, has led to a unique sailgating culture, mixing local traditions with old-world charm.

Fans have been known to get rowdy, and despite the government’s ban on alcohol, drunk fans have been known to fall into the waters, as proper signage is not an emphasis of Basian planning. Sneaking alcohol into the stadium is considered a right of passage for freshmen, but it’s not all that hard to accomplish as the policy is enforced randomly.

Fans demonstrate their love for the university’s football team by pumping two victory signs, often accompanied by shouting loudly when the opposing team’s offense is on the field. Players often perform this hand gesture, and then point them upwards, forming a kind of crown with their fingers. This gesture was popularized by legendary player and coach Tibbo Grant.

The team’s colors are Gold, White, and Purple. The team plays a white out game annually. This year, the white out game is set for Week 8 v.s. Université St. Croix.

Fact Sheet

Head Coach: William Roger Rutgers (54)
Offensive Coordinator: Haani al-Dib (59)
Defensive Coordinator: Adam Honest (48)
Special Teams Coordinator: Harold Malcomb (60)

Home stadium: New Grant Field (55,000), Viercourt

Offense

The Royal Bears are more well known for their defensive play, but always have decent running backs, and tend to have strong tackles. The quality of the offensive line has improved since last year, when quarterback Peter Galland ran for his life against the onslaught of the Woodlands Conference' defensive linemen. While Peter is gone, graduated and taking a much-needed vacation around Atlantian Oceania, Senior Kayvon Smith steps into the limelight. Smith saw action late in the season last year, when Galland was injured in Week 8 versus Université St. Croix, throwing for four touchdowns in two losses for the Royal Bears. While his first impressions haven’t been stellar, coach Will Rutgers says that Smith has been the quarterback of choice since the team began drills again.

Other important returning players include running back Gary Bearly, wide receivers Numair Hassan and Alphonse Appell, center Quarden Kingsly and right guard Nossim Lolomis.

Quarterbacks
Kayvon Smith, Sr. Six-foot-one, 200 pounds. Pocket passer, has a really nice lob pass.

Horatio Borus, Jr. Six-foot, 193 pounds. Great arm but inaccurate, tends to overthrow

Howard Trent, Fr. Six-foot-one, 190 pounds. Vocal player with a big arm and great understanding. Confident in his leadership role of the team. From a quarterback family in Huselann.

Running Backs
Gary Bearly, Sr. Five-foot-eleven, 225 pounds. Has bursts of speed that make him hard to catch in the secondary.

Barry Solace, Jr.[/b] Six-foot, 225 pounds. Less athletic, and more of a straight-up-the-gut runner

Harry Thresher, So. Six-foot-one, 240 pounds. Impressive player in high school, Thresher will have to sit out the first 6 games with a knee injury

Wide Receivers
Numair Hassan, Sr. Six-foot-four, 210 pounds. Great speed, history of turnovers

Alphonse Appell, Jr. Six-foot-two, 190 pounds. Has a habit of toe-tapping when not necessary, likes big plays

Buford Al-Assim, Sr. Six-foot-one, 185 pounds. Good receiver, but doesn’t mesh well with Galland’s throwing

Travis Poleam, So. Five-foot-eleven, 180 pounds. Good route runner

Harvey Kingman, Fr. Six-foot, 280 pounds.

Defense

The Royal Bears have long prided themselves over producing strong defensive back talent, and often have scouts monitoring the entire country, looking for the best defensive prospects that can be developed. Their pass defense is always exceptional, but the rush defense needs some work. Breakdowns in the secondary have still been a worry for the Royal Bears, even in season two.

The team will be missing the talent of cornerback Bradley Sanderson, a key part of the defense last year - a defense that was second best in the Woodlands Conference. Keep your eyes on Senior left defensive end Julian Edison to break past opposing blocks, as well as Aston Madison, the right outside linebacker that’s a sure tackler. Sophomore cornerback Kuma Neumann is an exciting young prospect for the team, and he’s sure to start many games this year.

Julian Edison, Sr. Six-foot-one, 285 pounds

Germaine Shrew, Sr. Six-foot, 260 pounds

Hasi Al-maris, Jr. (RS) Six-foot-two, 255 pounds

Crato Aclima, Jr. Six-foot, 185 pounds.

Alexander French, Fr. (RS) Six-foot-two, 195 pounds. Great vision and speed to the tackle, excellent tackling technique. Has a bit of a temper, and got into a brawl as a Sophomore in high school, but has calmed down since. Poor academically.

Felswyr State Preview: What Can the Firehawks Do in a Season of Transition?

You don't graduate three impactful Seniors and pretend that everything is okay, especially when all three of them were Captains, all three of them had won accolades from the three years of success of the Firehawks' initial three years. There was Park Mi-Hyeon, the do-everything Middle Linebacker who was known as one of the most cerebral, well rounded, and active players in the NSCF; there was Sara McAllister, the very accurate, often injured Kicker who was the beating heart of the club; and, finally, there was Sarai Michelle Bradwyn Gwenderyn, the best Gridiron player in Chromatik history. Gwenderyn was decent through the air, but even more lethal on the ground; she was the soul of the Firehawks, and will be sorely missed.

Outside of those three, the Firehawks also lost Nellie Katt, their coffin corner specialist Punter; Isabella Pont, the blocking Tight End; Carson Mettre, the third Wide Receiver and good Punt Returner; Mikel Kingston, the Center and heart of the line; and Paul Mattieu, the shutdown corner. On top of all that, they lost Sara Lee Hampton, Passing Game Coordinator - who will be replaced by Micah Jones, the Wide Receivers Coach. Basically, Felswyr State lost the core of their team, and will be looking to rebuild.

What remains? Kadesh Odika is the heir apparent, but Felswyr State didn't want to put the Banijan Freshman in the harm's way in his first season; instead, it'll be Vanorian Jonas Odden taking the helm. For the first time in a while, it's the Offensive Line that will be taking the lead - Julian Watt leading the way with four Sophomores. Receiving threats include two Juniors in Otto Mitchell and Stan Devlin, to Sophomores in So Kwang-Sun and Kim Bo-Mi, and two Freshmen in Essa Kayode and Vince Cartier. Devlin and Mitchell are speedsters with Mitchell being the tall Drawkian, So is the possession receiver while Kim is more of the space eater. Kayode and Cartier are the future, and will be used in very specific packages.

If Felswyr State does win, it'll be because of their defense. Despite losing Park, the Firehawks still have Vollmacht in the center of their line and two Sophomore Defensive Ends; Nicole Manstrom and Rolan Monroe will be crashing from the edge, with Monroe having the clutch factor late in games. The star of the defense will be Sage "Bricks" Sterling, the Ranorian Safety, which will be given the Joker role of playing anywhere he wants to play, while Ozioma Mazzi can also provide heat from the other safety position. Reile Jordan and Edith George will do decently in the Inside Linebacker positions, but they are no Park Mi-Hyeon.

Brianna Oglesby, Katie Sawyer, and Dorothéa Amble will be key players in the secondary, Oglesby and Sawyer having waited their turn. Michelle Breille has been prepared to take over as Kicker, while Viktor Andrei has the booming leg that will help the team win in field position.

What should be expected from the Firehawks? Well, anything will be better than going 6-7, getting swept by newcomers Staramara Tech, and losing three games in a row to end Gwenderyn's career. They'll take a winning season for starters, and maybe making it to the playoffs. However, everyone knows that these games are important for what's coming - the era of Kadesh Odika.

Staramara Tech Preview: No Pantoja and No Rinaldi as Tech Look to Build upon Initial Success

Nobody gave Staramara Tech any chance when they got into the NSCF, but the Lava didn't care. With a ground-and-pound offense that ate up tons of clock and a punishing defense, the Lava took the Horizon Conference by storm, their biggest accolade being the fact that they were the first team to actually sweep the Firehawks in the regular season, including a shutout. The Lava were taken down by the Northern Moravica University Cougars - who took second place in the NSCF last season - but they had proven their doubters wrong.

Now, they've lost three key Seniors. First off, Sheila Pantoja was the distributor and a decent thrower of the ball - the team will now have Liana Anderson and Haruno Masakazu fighting for the starting job. Anderson is supposedly the "starter", but there is talk that they'll share time to see who actually is the better passer. Second, the team lost Eldora Arellano, a cornerback that had allowed Rinaldi to play with reckless abandon. Then, the team lost Jere Rinaldi himself.

This squad will still be led by a very strong rushing attack and a very strong defense. Masresha Meba is a true weapon from the side, and Agot is a true specimen. The Lava won't miss any of the teeth.

With Felswyr State looking for revenge and the perennial threat of Sadeg State University, Staramara must prove that the results were more than a one-year deal. Chances are, they will.

The day was definitely not one defensive coordinator Micah Stallings-Sandefur will want to recall after the season.

Joe Gibbs University played their first-ever international opponent, Upper Westside University representing St. Kanye and the result was a 43-40 barnburner. He was muttering to himself as manager Mark Hardesty asked him to walk with him to the media room for the post-match press conference.

Hell of a time to go to a fucking presser, he thought as he stared ahead hoping not to meet Hardesty's gaze. He blinked and looked to his right as he strode step for step with Hardesty. He felt Hardesty looking at him and he felt an intense need to find a manhole to crawl into and hide. He felt like he'd let Hardesty down, like he'd let the entire team down. He felt as though he made the wrong call on every single play, and that feeling hurt. Had he actually looked back at his boss, he'd have seen the look wasn't one of disappointment or anger. He'd have noted an unmistakable look of sympathy, of compassion.

Both offences combined for 1,147 yards of total offence. Both offences combined for 86 points, and it was only a missed 28-yard field goal attempt by kicker Cameron Wing that prevented the highly entertaining affair from being extended by an overtime period. Wing also missed an extra point which made him feel like he'd let the team down even though he'd also made field goals of 47 yards and 39 yards, the latter of which drew the match level at 40. However, Wing looked up at the clock and saw that 1:22 remained. In the Incorporated Gridball League without the clock stopping on first downs to allow the chains to reset, a team could potentially expect to shut down a team that, like Upper Westside, were left without a timeout, it meant the trailing club would have to get to the line quickly, spike the ball to stop the clock, or hope for sideline patterns to stop the clock without driving up their quarterback's incompletion numbers.

With college rules including the clock stoppage to allow the chain gang to reset the first down marker, it was plenty of time for the Red Pandas. And for senior quarterback Tim Hunt and offensive coordinator Fred Doss, it was more than enough time to drive down the field. As Wing approached the ball, he'd recalled his instructions to squib the ball in the hopes that it would carom off some poor, unsuspecting upback like a blocking tight end or a linebacker and to one of his guys. However, he'd booted the ball deeper than he was instructed to, and the ball ended up on the Red Pandas 36-yard line. Realistically speaking, 34 yards with now 1:16 left was very doable for the Red Pandas, and it was going to be up to Stallings-Sandefur to decide how he was going to stop an offence the Cyclones couldn't even slow down.

"Four man rush," he said, "Zone coverage," he added. He then watched helplessly as Hunt hit checkdown receiver after checkdown receiver and methodically carved up the Cyclones defence like it was Thanksgiving turkey. Finally, with just two seconds remaining on the clock and the line of scrimmage at the Cyclones 14-yard line, coach Fabio Forelli sent on sophomore kicker Matt Ingberg for a match-winning 32-yard field goal attempt. The Cyclones had one timeout remaining, and Hardesty used it in an obvious attempt to ice Ingberg. However, the young kicker was more than up to the task and he drilled the field goal to give the Red Pandas their opening match victory and consign the Cyclones to defeat.

Hardesty was asked a couple of questions about Micah Stallings-Sandefur's decision to play a modified prevent defence, but he deferred those to the coordinator. Fortunately for Hardesty, the other questions that had a limited role in actual gridball considerations weren't being asked yet. Namely, the reaction of JGU fans who were used to calling their team the Redskins no longer having that name adorn the home stadium or the team's kits.

Some questions are better left unasked, Hardesty would decide later.

Two seconds left in the game, folks, and it doesn't get any better than this. First game in the new NSCF season, and we've already been treated to what has been an exciting matchup between these two teams. The Upper Westside Red Pandas with a dominant first half, and then the Joe Gibbs Cyclones rallying in the second, and now we're tied at 40 apiece. Alright, here comes Matt Ingberg, the sophomore. He lines up for the field goal from 32 yards out. Snap is good, here comes the kick, sails through, for the win..... and IN! INGBERG'S KICK IS IN! The Red Pandas knock off the Cyclones 43-40, and it's the first ever NSCF win for the UWU and the country of St. Kanye! Welcome to the NSCF, Red Pandas!

The UWU Stadium in Kardashia, St. Kanye, was fully packed that day, with students, staff and their respective families and friends wanting to witness history. Several years ago, the Glorious Free Republic entered the NSCAA for the first time with the Frostvale Tech and Kanyean Air Force Academy basketball teams, among others. This time, it's gridiron's time to go international, with the Red Pandas being the ones to accept the mission of joining the NSCF. They were put into the six-team Sequoia Conference, and their first opponents are the Cyclones from Sarzonia's Joe Gibbs University. First the Arena Bowl, then the World Bowl, and now this - Yeezies and Sarzonians just can't escape the possibility of sharing a gridiron field together, no matter the contest.

1Q UWU Hall 17 pass from Hunt (Ingberg kick) UWU 7-0
Junior wideout Tyron Hall became the answer to many future trivia questions when he scored the UWU's first ever points in the NSCF. Quarterback Tim Hunt threw a 70-yard bomb to Hall, but the latter was pushed out of bounds before he could haul it in for the score. However, that gave the team a lot of yardage, and they were able to finish the job on the next play.

1Q JGU Rollings 25 run (Wing kick) Tie 7-7
The Cyclones equalized shortly after, with running back T'Juan Rollings, well, rolling ahead of several defenders for the score.

1Q UWU Fredericks 48 pass from Hunt (Ingberg kick) UWU 14-7
Later, it was the other half of the Red Pandas' fearsome receiver tandem lighting up the scoreboard, Deshawn Fredericks catching the ball with his left hand before breaking a few Cyclones' ankles on the way to the end zone.

1Q UWU Fredericks 12 pass from Hunt (Ingberg kick) UWU 21-7
Joe Gibbs went three and out on their next possession, but so did Upper Westside. The visitors got the ball back, and now they have a chance to tie one again. Cyclones quarterback Joyce Logano chose to target freshman receiver Devin Quinn, only for his namesake Troy to snatch the ball in midair. Two plays later, Hunt found Fredericks once more for the score and the fourteen-point lead.

2Q JGU field goal Wing 47 UWU 21-10
2Q UWU field goal Ingberg 36 UWU 24-10
The two teams traded field goals, keeping the Red Pandas ahead by two touchdowns for most of the second quarter.

2Q UWU Cooley 16 pass from Hunt (Ingberg kick) UWU 31-10
However, with less than two minutes remaining, Jonald Cooley, the freshman sensation, became the recipient of Hunt's fourth touchdown pass of the day. That gave the home team more than triple their opponents' points as they entered the locker rooms.

Image
A shocking win indeed.

3Q JGU Monk 93 kick return (Kick failed) UWU 31-16
The third quarter was all JGU, however. James Monk took the opening kickoff to the house....

3Q UWU field goal Ingberg 23 UWU 34-16
... the Cyclone defense held the Red Pandas to a field goal on their ensuing possession...

3Q JGU Ellard 56 pass from Logano (Wing kick) UWU 34-23
... Logano finally threw a pass to the right team...

3Q JGU Rollings 16 run (Wing kick) UWU 34-30
... and Rollings added a second TD to his tally, cutting the once mighty 21-point lead into just four.

4Q UWU Abdul Wahad 6 run (Two-point conversion failed) UWU 40-30
Pierre Beaulieu almost scored on the kick return, but was knocked out of bounds at the Cyclone 24. Cooley caught a quick pass from Hunt for a gain of eighteen, and fullback Khalil Abdul Wahad bulldozed his Sarzonian defenders for the remaining six yards as well as six points. The Red Pandas decided to go for two, but unfortunately, Asher Connaughton was there to deflect the pass meant for Hall.

4Q JGU D. Quinn 13 pass from Logano (Wing kick) UWU 40-37
Joe Gibbs U went on a long drive, capping it with a score despite the UWU defense doing everything they could. Rollings fumbled, but the offense recovered. Two successive passes to the two starting receivers fell incomplete, but both were ruled pass interference. Finally they reached the red zone, where JGU's Quinn evaded the UWU's Quinn and brought the Cyclones back within three.

4Q JGU field goal Wing 39 Tie 40-40
Hunt threw three straight incompletions on their next possession, forcing them to punt. The visitors now had the chance to take the lead for the first time in the contest, and they moved down the field as quickly as they could, but a huge sack by Ryan Blake on Logano brought up fourth down. JGU brought out kicker Cameron Wing, who would tie the game up with 1:22 remaining. That was more than enough time for the Red Pandas to attempt a game-winning drive, however.....

4Q UWU field goal Ingberg 32 UWU 43-40
.... and they did, Hunt making up for his three incompletions earlier by connecting with Hall, Fredericks, then third receiver Josh Laney-Seymour. Finally, with the clock winding down, Ingberg was brought in, and though he got iced, he would boot the ball through the uprights for the shock victory.

"Hero? Sure, but I'm not just the one who played my part today," Ingberg told reporters at the end of the game. "My teammates played well. The coached coached well. We couldn't have done this if we hadn't worked together." Said quarterback Hunt, "This truly is a great moment in the history of the UWU, and I'm glad to not just have witnessed it, but been part of it. First win for this program internationally, now let's work hard for the second, the third, and so on." Head coach Fabio Forelli commended the opposing team as well. "I do believe it was a great performance for us, but likewise so for them. I don't want teams going easy on us for being new. I want them actually putting up a fight. And that's what the Cyclones did tonight, no doubt about it."

Now let's take a look at the other games in the conference. Joining the Red Pandas in the win column are defending conference champs the Silverleaf University Goblins, as they annihilated the University of the Hampton Cities Brawlers 41-13, and the other Sarzonian team, the Woodstock University Climbers, who outlasted the Golden Oak University Foxes 30-16. Upper Westside will be facing Silverleaf at home next week, and Coach Forelli already expects it to be another tough matchup. "They [Goblins] are champs for a reason, and it sure isn't sheer luck," he said. "We'll keep pushing and giving it our all. The work isn't done, in fact it's just getting started."

Proko To The Rescue! Buffalo Pitch Shutout In Season Opener!

Image
QB Robin Sterling did most of his damage on the ground in his Cold Hill debut

For a team going through as much transition as the Buffalo, questions are inevitable. Aurel Strathos declared for the draft after last season and was selected number 2 overall. The best-in-program-history defense lost more starters than they retained. Among the losses were star corner Koman Tabor, safety Agnor Viridian, pass rusher Corrin Silva, two senior defensive tackles in Patrick Gerrin and Greg Winchester, and inside linebacker Esse Torrin. Tabor and Viridian were each selected in the first round of their respective drafts, while Silva likely would have been if not for a devastating knee injury he suffered during the NSCF 25 campaign.

So for a team that traditionally relies on forcing their opponents into shootouts to secure victory, most anticipated a return to that form. Instead, it was again the defense carrying the day in week one. With junior safety Prokopios Vortigern Rooijakkers leading the charge, the team recorded four sacks and a pair of takeaways as the offense came out in one of the more run-heavy game plans they've employed during their time in the NSCF.

"I made a mistake last season," admitted head coach Chris Dale, "I stubbornly stuck to what I felt was a proven formula rather than adapt to the talent on the roster. I can't help but wonder if letting Alexander Østby get more work would have changed the outcome against Northern Moravica. So if we want to run the ball, we're going to run the ball."

Østby will likely agree with the sentiment - the Vanorian got his fair share this time with 19 carries and 87 yards as Cold Hill dedicated 37 of their 71 offensive snaps to runs - excluding scrambles - a shock for anyone who follows this team. Quarterback Robin Sterling, who finished the game 20/31 with 194 yards through the air, didn't seem to mind.

"As long as we're winning games I'm not too worried about the numbers," he shrugged, "We've got a lot of talent on the roster and our coaching staff is going to make the most out of it every week. My job is to take care of business when my number is called upon."

Now if the run-first approach was a surprise, that comment was even more of a twist. Between Diamond Rhine and Golden Boy Strathos, the Buffalo faithful have gotten used to quarterbacks with an ego that overshadows their arm talent.

Sterling's lone score on the day came on a goal line fade to Prokopios Vortigern Rooijakkers after an impressive goal line stand by the Swisston defense. The safety accounted for an interception and six tackles on the defensive side as he continues to offer elite run support from the safety position with the range to make an interception from almost any pre-snap alignment. And Candace Ferrett would be the one to strip away - literally - any hope Swisston had. After the Swiss Army Knives drove their way into the red zone midway through the fourth down 17-0, the projected first rounder hit Jeff Edwards with a ghost rush that caused him to overset and give her easy access for a heart-breaking strip sack.

Chris Dale was blunt in his post game presser when reporters inquired on what it meant to get a week 1 win at home.

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. We did what we were expected to do. We did that fourteen times last season, and we couldn't close the deal."

Dale is - clearly - bitter about his playoff loss against Northern Moravica, but his Buffalo are now on a 15 regular-season game winning streak stretching back to week 13 of NSCF 24, and they haven't lost a Big 8 game since week 3 of that same season. Both those marks will be on the line every Saturday until week 10, although Kohnhead City, Cold Hill's biggest challenger for their long-standing Big 8 crown, will likely be the first to truly test their mettle in week 4.

The Harrowitz Era Begins! Future Looks Bright, Richardson Cruises To 100th NSCF Victory!

Image
Star runner Elliot Roach cited "A few personal vendettas" among his reasons for playing out his senior year at Richardson

For the millions waiting to criticize the decision to go with Harrowitz over long-time head man Richard Steinheil, they'll have to stew for another week.

Sure, some kinks may still need to be worked out with a base nickel defense, but the only one's you'll hear complaining about a 47-12 are the coaching staff, and then only in meeting rooms for the most part. Mistakes were few and far between though. Harrowitz had his team dialed in, evidenced when even inside linebacker Kaiser Belfort behaved himself - the closest he came to drawing a flag was when he dragged down the Blue Dragon running back for a three yard loss on a 4th and 1 and began punching himself in the helmet.

The Governors - whose defense appeared to be one step ahead all game - took a 17-0 lead by the end of the first quarter on the back of that dominant front 7, allowing negative rushing yardage in the opening period to completely stall out the Swisston offense.

"We earned the right to rush the passer," said Gideon Kearse, who led the NSCF in sacks last season and recorded 2 TFL and 8 tackles in this game, "They fell behind, and we ate them alive."

Kearse himself didn't record a sack despite a few knockdowns, those honors went to Kaspar Ulvestad, who left with a career-high 3.5 takedowns of the team's 5. Kaiser Belfort notched one of his own as well as the linebacker benefits from a defensive scheme that's more liberal about blitzing than in prior years.

By the time the second half rolled around it was senior Elliot Roach handling duties on offense. He'd break through for 157 yards and a pair of scores on 27 carries. Quarterbacks will always get the majority of the press, whether due to their production or lack thereof, but everyone in the country knows who stirs the drink of this offense. Roach has been a monster for the Governors, and he's now tied the team's NSCF program record for career rushing touchdowns to match former OPOY Kuenda Sello.

Perhaps fate has aligned itself here - season opener, Kasen Harrowitz's long-awaited debut as a head coach, and the 100th NSCF victory for Richardson University, all on the same sunny afternoon. With a talent-laden roster, especially on the defensive side, this team has what it takes to go and win it all, and their Chromatik head coach echoed that sentiment. "This team is special, and I'm grateful for the upperclassmen especially making this a smooth transition. They're bought into what we're doing, and I know we have the right players in the right position to finally get the albatross off our necks - we set four goals before we started the season. First, defend Dietrich Stadium. Second, win the Big 8. Cold Hill passed us for the most conference titles in Big 8 history last season, and that's unacceptable. Third, win our rivalry games - Kohnhead City, Cold Hill, Baker Park, and Loyola-Istria. And fourth, of course, is to win an NSCF championship."

Lofty goals indeed. All four of Richardson's rivals are worthy ones indeed, teams among the royalty of this competition while even more will by vying for the throne at the very top. Most elite teams have these sorts of aspirations going into the season, of course - but in the end, there can only be one. Can Harrowitz take the program Richard Steinheil built and carry it just a step or two farther?

NSFB: Year 2 With 2 Schools Starts With a Split

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Mar 26, 2022 8:58 am

Last season was all about trophies - one school claimed the conference crown while the other spilt the Battle and would claim the Earth Trophy for the offseason. Now, both return looking to keep hold of the silverware they own and maybe claim new crowns too...NSCF is back and no matter who you support, the fun is about to begin.

Let's start with those Trent State Feathercaps, who went 12-4 last season on route to their first-ever Mineral Conference Title and a Playoff Semifinal to the eventual champions in the Raynor Rockets. The mood and expectations around Sherwood Field, on campus here in Notts and in TJUN-ia as a whole have certainly shifted and Johnny Bridgeford could certainly feel it too. Year 1 with Gareth Baldwin was all about finding their feet in this unknown...and they managed a .500 record and a bowl appearance. Baldwin's swansong was initially all about trying to make a step forward in a new conference...and then the Caps ended up in the Championship Game. Year 3, the first with Leon Gallas in the saddle, was about proving that run to the title game was no fluke back in the...and winning the Mineral on our return and making Final 4 was one way of doing that. But now? Well, Bridgeford has three things on his mind as Gallas enters his swansong: get the Earth Trophy back, defend the Mineral crown and try and get back to the Final 4 once more.

These three goals got underway in Notts, the first Mineral game as defending champions, against a new team on the block - the Ccafoksablem from Badfekna Ssoknar Lanom, or just "Badfekna SsL" if you prefer. Badfekna hail from Efnakia and are led by head coach Fan Kamuknu and starting QB Ccat' Kom. This team were very young and very inexperienced in competing at the NSCF level - which would certainly explain the result which occurred today. TSU didn't need to go all out against a young team like this one and while BSsL did provide some sort of fight, they just weren't good enough to get any points on the day. Gallas was certainly cooking out there when he could, scoring 4 TDs - 2 via the experienced Fremont Whitehorse, 1 via his new weapon in redshirt junior Ivan Borosić and 1 via a debutant in HB Patrícia Chládeková. Xander Tiovannen, BF to the QB, is back too and 4/4 is a god way to return as well. It was a great performance overall and a good one to start the season with...but Alexandropolis are up next and we will certainly have some tape to look over.

Last time out saw the debut season for the Green City Royal Eagles and you could certainly say that Paul Abdullahi had an interesting 1st season with NSCF at The Palace. They ended their Mineral debut 6-4 after winning 4 straight, won 2 of 3 in OOC play and made an appearance in the Pioneer Bowl too. That was the most anyone could've expected from Mikiya Na Sakri, especially after beating TSU on Week 9 to claim for Earth Trophy for the break, but now, Abdullahi had two main aims for year two: try and keep hold of the Earth Trophy and push to as close to the playoffs as possible.

But today certainly wasn't their day as the Alexandroupolis Redbirds of New Gesem welcomed GCU to the Redbird Stadium and Curtis Decker showed no mercy. Ely May balled out with 5 TDs as Mark Moss (twice), Royce Lloyd (twice) and Ike Chapman getting their names on the board. Clyde Head was brilliant with 4/4 while May rounded out the scoring a FG. At least GCU managed to score, with Glory Oparanozie getting a 4th Quarter FG, but this certainly wasn't GCU's day in New Gesem. They will certainly hope to bounce back next week...but the UCBP Warriors are coming to town next week. Certainly a tough start for the Royal Eagles indeed.

One down, 12 to go...let the chaos reign upon us all.

Running back Bill Crotty's morning didn't get off to a great start.

The alarm on his mobile phone blared at 5 a.m., a full hour before the team was scheduled to wake up for the noon contest against Golden Oak University. Crotty reached over to look at his phone but forgot that he'd placed it on the other side of the lamp from where he normally did. All of a sudden, BOOM!

"You OK?" Mike Zastudil, the starting fullback and Crotty's flatmate asked as he, too, was awakened early by the dulcet sounds of Crotty's mobile phone alarm.

"I'm good," came Crotty's response as he sat on the floor. He landed tush first and as a result, the only thing that really hurt him was his pride. And it would get worse as quarterback Cal Barkley texted him, "Hey, what's going on up there? You moving furniture or some shit like that?"

The team gathered in the basement of the building where they had their meals. They would be served a generous breakfast in preparation for their opening match. As the players sat down to eat, manager James Arthur could make out a few chuckles among the team. He'd find out what happened and he let out a belly laugh.

"You WHAT?" he asked Crotty in mock annoyance before his scowl turned upward into a grin. "We're gonna start calling that 'pulling a Crotty'!" he said.

As the team boarded the bus to Friedgen Stadium, Arthur noticed the mood amongst the players was jovial. They were going to take the field at their home stadium, a place where they were undefeated in NSCF play, against a newcomer school. Never mind the fact that it was Woodstock University who were the newcomers last time out, they felt confidence after a season under their belts and after tasting success outside the conference. Unlike the other two schools, Silverleaf University, who won the Sequoia Conference with a 9-1 mark in conference play and Universidade de Soria, who went 3-7 in conference and earned the only non-conference victory that belonged to a school other than the Climbers, Woodstock had a winning record outside the conference. They defeated the eventual runners up Northern Moravica University 19-16 on the strength of Matt Andersen's leg and a career-long 56-yard field goal. They beat Loyola-Istria 20-17 in the first round of the playoffs before eventually losing to eventual champions Raynor University.

And now, owing to the Climbers having a 3-2 overall mark outside the conference, including the only playoff win by a Sequoia team, they had expectations. They were ranked 20th among NSFC schools, ahead of the No. 23 ranking assigned to Silverleaf. The voters determined that playoff success and wins out of the conference meant more than gaudy conference records. Especially when the Goblins ghosted against non-conference opponents when it counted most.

The match against Golden Oak was closer than the score appeared. The Foxes were trailing 23-16 when their quarterback was goaded into a bad interception that gave the Climbers a short field and Crotty made the most of it with a one-yard touchdown run that provided the final margin of victory. The Foxes outgained the Climbers 347 to 296, but the opportunistic Climbers defence made plays when it counted. And in the end, 1-0 is 1-0 no matter how pretty or ugly the path it took to get there.

Hoofstra University is an elite private university upstream on the Delamare river from Fillydelphia proper. Founded by an eccentric pair of siblings of a local agricultural baron, it was the first university founded outside of the nation’s (then much smaller) urban centers. By effectively giving a new career outlet to the vast swathes of ponies living in more rural areas—one that featured dramatically higher upward mobility—Hoofstra quickly became a center for innovation by collating perspectives from more walks of life than ever before. In particular their economics department has had an outsized impact on the course of Karditani history for better and for worse. It was these hallowed halls where the seeds of their modern vision of Anarcho-Capitalism were sown.

As early practitioners of such inventive and aggressive business practices, the institution always had an outsized amount of funding to throw around and some of that inevitably found its way into the sports programs. The Pride aren’t the oldest existing collegiate gridiron team, but do have the longest contiguous history as other elder rivals had periods of budget constraints shuttering teams. In modern times, the competition—and profits—have tightened to the point that it’s difficult for any one uni to become truly dominant, but Hoofstra perennially remains a top contender and on the tip of the peoples’ tongues when bants commence. The student body is also renowned as being the queerest across Karditan.

Ledbetter Field, named after an alumni who provided a major contribution to its construction, is surrounded on three sides by farms used by Hoofstra’s agricultural department. The contents of the fields can vary from archetypical practice crops like standard yields of wheat and barley when undergrads are learning the ropes, to extravagant experiments by grad students and professors such as radiation-enhanced megafruits. There’s only been the one accident of eviscertomatoes escaping containment and that was decades ago, so no reason for visiting fans to be alarmed by van-sized gourds. Concessions also serves remarkably healthy fare, though if you really want some deep fried burgers and a steady stream of beer you don’t need to look hard to find that as well. The fourth side faces the rest of Hoofstra’s athletic complex, featuring several baseball fields, soccer pitches, and a rally course.

Alexandroupolis 7 7 22 0 36

Ely May Leads Experienced Redbirds to Victory over Green City
For the second year in a row, the University of Alexandroupolis Redbirds opened the season with a win over TJUN-ia's Green City Royal Eagles. This year, though, the margin of victory was significantly wider, owing in large part to a robust performance by senior quarterback Ely May in his first career start for the Redbirds.

May got into a rhythm early against the Green City secondary, throwing for three consecutive first downs on the first drive of the game, en route to a passing touchdown for Royce Lloyd. On the next possession, the Eagles would drive into the Redbirds' half before being forced to punt.

The teams traded possession for the remainder of the first quarter, and Green City opened the second quarter with a good-looking drive that ended in an Oparanozie field goal. Alexandroupolis marched down the field on the following possession and Chapman pushed the pile to score the team's only rushing touchdown on the day.

The Redbirds dominated possession in the first half with over 60%, and signs of fatigue were evident in the Royal Eagles' defense coming out of the locker room. After going three-and-out on their opening drive, the Eagles punted to Eddie Camacho, who ran the ball to the Green City thirty-five. Two plays later, May sent a missile over the top to find Mark Moss for the third Alexandroupolis touchdown.

Green City failed to find an answer for the Redbirds' passing game, and May would find Moss and Lloyd once more each for his third and fourth passing touchdowns. In a typical early-season mishap, holder Calvin Cotton bobbled the ball on a point-after attempt, only to cradle it and run into the end zone for a two-point conversion.

With a twenty-nine point lead in only the first game of the season, coach Curtis Decker made the decision to rest his starters, allowing Cotton to see the game out behind center.

First Road Test awaits Warriors
Teresa Bramlage, College Football Writer

After a strong opening to the NSCF 26 MinCon campaign, the University of the Commonwealth will make the first of two visits to TJUN-ia when they face Green City University in week 2.

The Royal Eagles opened the season losing to one of the tri-champions from last year, Alexandroupolis' Redbirds, on the road 36-3 to put themselves behind the 8-Ball already as the Warriors come for the home opener.

UC faired better, with a 38-13 win over newcomers Constantinople University--who hail from New Gesem like the Redbirds--at Gleason Field in front of 39,084 on a brisk evening. The hosts rolled up just a bit over 500 total yards against a Binturong team that reportedly was pieced together from scratch.

"We certainly take our hats off to Constantinople for the effort they put in", said Head Coach Ryan Benton after the victory. "I don't know all of the particulars, but apparently this is a completely new roster for the school. It's a bit funny, because it took us most of the first quarter to adjust to the option**, but I suspect when we head there in the second half, they will be much improved. I think they are a danger to everyone in the (conference) because they're only going to get better,"

Benton spoke again several days later ahead of the trip to TJUN-ia.
"When I spoke about how (Constantinople) was a threat, I should've remembered to compare them to GCU from a season ago. It's weird how it worked out that we are playing Trent and GCU back to back, with the order flipped but at the same place we played them both in the first half last time. One player I know who has circled this game on his calendar for awhile is (starting QB Stubbs) Devon, who even watched the video of that second game (a 30-20 home loss in week 8 of NSCF 25) during the UAC season."

As the coach mentioned, Trent State will be the opponent at home in week 3 before the trip to Alexandroupolis the following matchday. The first half of the MinCon fixture list will see the first "Sunday Night Lights" of the season in week 5 when Badfekna Ssoknar Lanom from Efnakia comes to College Hill.

**OOC note
The triple option was a staple of college football in Baker Park for years, in all of it's various forms--wishbone, veer, I formation, the more modern variations derived from the originals--so a BP team having trouble against an unexpected appearance is an unusual experience.

Ke Ccafoksablem Take Opening-Day Lashing
Gallas throws for four as experienced Feathercaps dominate NSCF newbies

Mesas Kaddoho, Notts

Badfekna Ssokar Lanom had their first taste of defeat in some time yesterday, with a 28-0 loss at Trent State University in Mineral Conference play. The Feathercaps are the reigning Mineral Conference champions, having gone 12-4 last season ending with a loss in the Playoff Semifinal.

Senior quarterback Leon Gallas returned to lead the squad, with experienced skill position players returning as well in their senior and junior wide receivers. The triple option offense installed by Ke Ccafoksablem head coach Fan Kamuknu has been generally successful in domestic league play, with Badfekna SsL securing yet another undefeated title last season, but it struggled against quality opposition, as a hostile crowd and the physicality of the Feathercap defense held the Ke Ccafoksablem to under 200 yards of offense, most coming on the ground from quarterback Kahtoel Katana.

For the Feathercaps, Leon Gallas threw for four touchdowns, with 3 coming in the first half as the experienced offense overwhelmed a Ke Ccafoksablem defense that initially struggled to keep up with the style of play seen throughout NSCF. The first came after the first drive, with Gallas finding senior wideout Fremont Whitehorse in the back of the endzone for a simple score.

The second came immediately afterwards, as a fumble on a handoff gave the Feathercaps the ball in scoring range. Gallas duly punished the mistake, finding redshirt junior receiver Ivan Borosić on a simple pitch and catch over the middle that saw Borosić leave multiple defenders in the dust to find the endzone. There was a bit of respite for the Ke Ccafoksablem, as they held the Trent State offense dormant for a few drives, before a screen pass from Gallas to freshman running back Patrícia Chládeková saw Chládeková follow her convoy of blockers for a simple touchdown, the first of her career.

The fourth came with the game mostly over, as late in the 3rd quarter Gallas found Whitehorse over the top for a 60 yard score to kill the game. The Ke Ccafoksablem never truly threatened, turning the ball over three times and never advancing past the Feathercap 40-yard line. The offense will have to perform significantly better to aid this seemingly fragile defense if Badfekna has any intentions of finding a win in the Mineral Conference this season.

Next week, we return to more familiar surroundings as the Constantinople University Binturongs come to the Mafo Badfekna Ssokar Lanom for the Ke Ccafoksablem’s home opener. The Binturongs are slight favorites, coming off a 38-13 road loss to the University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park.

THE PRIDE

Université St. Croix : A Factfile.

Motto: '成人材之未就 均風俗之不齊'
Established: 1643
Type: Public research university
Location: Québec City, Capitale-Nationale, Québec and Shingoryeo
Religious affiliation: Non-denominational
Endowment: Q£ 21.3 billion (2041)
Chancellor: Armand Lee-Durkheim
Vice-Chancellor: Eleonore Davenport
Academic Staff: 4,765
Students: 22,363
Undergraduates: 13,115
Postgraduates: 9,248

It has taken a decade for Université St. Croix to come back to the NSCF after a decadelong absence, and the Bleu et Blanc are looking forward to keep up their ascent after their successful return two years ago. Being located at the St. Croix district, just ten minutes metro ride away from the renowned Quartier Calanien, the hub of student life, bistros and related academic establishments, St. Croix students, the faculty, the alumni and the Capitoliens all across the Multiverse welcome the fans across the Multiverse.

In terms of collegiate athletics, the Bleu et Blanc are consistently among the most successful in most sports the athletics department sponsor team/individual participation, with their particular strengths in gridiron, Women's basketball, both association footballs, Men's volleyball and fencing teams. Among them, most fans both home and abroad know the Bleu et Blanc football team the best, for they have not only won the second most number of national championships, but have made their mark as every capitolien's true blue in college football. This year was a yet solid year for the Bleu et Blanc program, with a couple of national championships won in Women's footy and an expected deep run for both fencing championships, and football did come close where they secured themselves another top 5 finish after a NY6 bowl win even after large graduation of its players.

As for the university itself, Université St. Croix is renowned for its particular strengths in most fields, but in particular the humanities and social sciences, which has been renowned for its bred and butter. Its Faculty of Arts and Sciences, especially fuelled by all of its eighteen colleges, is funded with consistency and high rates of trust and confidence by the Quebecois Government, who do take particular interest in the university and its students. It is perhaps destined from the university's origin into the 1640s (it is 2047 in Quebec right now), with St. Croix being the nation's only university for the first 120 years of the history. In 1648, the Quebecois Government had built the Seonggyoongwan, eventally the Seonggyoongwan Faculty of Arts and Science of the University itself, with both theological and practical trainings emphasised to prepare its students and alumni into civil service. Since then, as the university was renamed St. Croix in dedication of the St. Croix plains the university campus was built upon and took upon more imperial, comprehensive identity, the Université St. Croix has stood as the pinnacle of postsecondary education in not only Quebec and Shingoryeo, but also the Quebecois Commonwealth as well.

COACHING STAFF

Head Coach: Kweon Joon-Ho, 50

An above-average quarterback with Northwestern University of Attawapiskat, Kweon's legacies were carved as a coach, first by his excellent work as quarterback coach and offensive coordinator at Saguenay and Northern Moravica universities, which was then followed by a rare opportunity to coach one of the most dominant collegiate football programs in the 21st century. He has done alright in the past decade he has coached the program, bringing 2 Tiger Bowls home in the times of budgetary restrictions (especially compared to the successful St. Croix teams of mid-teens of the NSCF football) and keeping the program respectable.

While coming from a background as high-powered QB coach and OC, Kweon's philosophy as St. Croix coach remains fairly straightforward - build it with strong 3-4 defences, dominance on line of scrimmage, and grind out the pace with runs, runs and stoppages. This partly originates from his time coaching with Saguenay, where the stringent academic and admissions standards of the program had meant that recruiting skill positions stood a particular challenge. That's something that he has continued with St. Croix, and the team's identity has more or less continued along.

Offensive Coordinator: Theodore Galstian, 41
Defensive Coordinator: Nathalie-Jeanne Crepeau, 32
Special Teams Coordinator: Hannah McKendry, 42

Style of Play: Smashmouth Offence with two backs / 3-4 Defence

He is complimented by a solid group of coordinators right underneath - the retirement of longtime assistant and friend Henri Iyotake as the defensive coordinator has brought a major hole into the squad, which had also meant that he, now having to think more about playcalling and overall coordination of the program (something that he did use Iyotake's help pre-retirement), had to hire two new coordinators as well.

In their place stand OC Theodore Galstian, a traditionally-minded smashmouth coach from the QFL's Maritime Schooners, and DC Nathalie-Jeanne Crepeau, defensive coordinator of mid-major Gyeongbuk A&M. Among two, Crepeau's considered more valuable, having been hired at a smashing salary rate after five seasons of promising performance with Aggies. Her use of Tampa 2 and blitz packages have drawn some attention. With St. Croix having recent successes both on field and on the QFL stage as a good DB school, there is no doubt that this St. Croix team's going to come up with an all-arounded, balanced defence. Hannah McKendry, one of the finest special teams coordinator of the NSCF circuit, also returns. The veteran does have head coach ambitions in sight in case Kweon heads to the QFL or retires from football, but for now is happy to stay with the Bleu et Blanc.

OFFENCE

Co-Offensive Captains: WR Ippolit Cocteau-Pivin, SR - C Stephanie Arbuckle, JR

A traditionally-built and run offence that aims to wear down opposing defences with strong runs and impeccable blocking abilities. A stable of 4-5 capable halfbacks and fullbacks on this team, with Alansana Marong, the team's explosive halfback, expected to take significant yardage. Freshman Leroy Gallant and fullback Remy Kostas-Gallant will be used more as power back and third-down back. Multiple all-Quebecois and all-RSECQ selections on this offensive line that have gelled well together. Whether this will really show on scoreboard and statistics remain to be seen, but we'll see plenty of them going onto have a good pro career.

Wideouts are where they are weak at - only two notesworthy receivers: team captain Ippolit Cocteau-Pivin and freshman Donta'a Joh. Those two are good, and Joh could end up being a difference maker for this team in future NSCFs. Otherwise, mostly unimpressive receivers corps. Solid group of tight ends are in stables, however, and expect them to use lots of tight ends in their schemes.

DEFENCE

Co-Defensive Captains: LB Seo Sam-Ryong, JR - S Bruno Forgacs, SR

3-4 offence that also utilises Tampa 2 on secondary. Led by all-Quebecois players Seo Sam-Ryong on inside linebacker and Bruno Forgacs on safety, the middle of the field is where they are good at and the coverage abilities of St. Croix defensive players remain very well executed. There remains doubt over how their edge rushing abilities will work out though. In the end, a make-or-break will have to come down to how their primary edge rushers, rookie OLB Leon Chankoowashtay and senior DE Isaiah Hong can break down opposing tackles. St. Croix nose tackles always do their job, and we always see their starter go onto have a decent QFL career of some sorts.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Special Teams Captain: K Oak Soo-Hyeong, JR

A well-trained, well-prepared unit that's expected to execute as needed. Led by Hannah McKendry, one of the best special teams coordinator in all of NSCF. Oak Soo-Hyeong is a reliable kicker who does not kick much beyond 50 yards, but is Ms. Automatic in kicks that she can make. Glenn Chatchu-On is an undersized punter with mojo and underrted kicks. Koo and Hayes are mostly unceremonial and unnoticed, which is good considering their respective position on this team.

Emilee Johansson's development as a passer opens up the KCU offense
Image
Keith Gray was electric in a career day

The 26th season of the NSCF is underway and Kohnhead City University opened the season in victorious fashion (just like they've done in now four straight seasons) routing newcomers Richmond University from StrayaRoos. The biggest question facing KCU heading into this one was how would the offense look with Rowena Hastroff being the featured back as opposed to the human bowling ball of Herman Whitworth. The early returns were really good but that's to be expected against a newcomer in week 1 of the season.

The biggest takeaway from the game was not how the running game looked but rather how the passing game looked. Emilee Johansson the junior quarterback from Chromatika once thought of as too short to play quarterback at a high level absolutely diced through the air looking so much more polished than she has in previous seasons. Johansson has always been a good not great passer of the football relying more on her legs and Herman Whitworth although we have seen a great many flashes of brilliance with her arms.

Speaking of flashes, if there's one thing that can describe how Keith Gray's career at KCU has been, it's flashes which isn't uncommon for a burner like him playing in a run first offense. Well today we saw flashes, and we saw a lot of them as Gray hauled in 7 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns while absolutely running circles around the Richmond defense. Second play of the game was a PA bootleg where Johansson rolled out and saw Gray deep hitting him for a 68 yard touchdown to set the tone early.

Johansson has always had the arm strength but her deep ball accuracy hasn't been good enough to utilise Gray in the manner that he could be used but today was a different story. It wasn't just that Johansson was throwing it up to a wide open Gray and he was adjusting to make the catch, no she was hitting him in stride down the sideline deep. She also through a bullet to Alazar in the end zone that I don't think the Emilee Johansson of the past two years makes.

And of course we are Kohnhead City University so the running game was on point with Hastroff averaging eight yards per carry and catching five passes out of the backfield. Johansson contributed on the ground as well but she used her legs not to just scramble but to extend plays in a way we haven't seen from her but what we saw from Byron Joseph years ago. Her ability to recognize when to just take off and run or when to continue looking downfield and trust her receivers to get open appears to be much improved although that's quite easy when the receivers get open pretty much every time.

Overall we shouldn't take too much away from the 47 points we hung on Richmond but, even when not looking at her 35/40 for 421 yards and four touchdown performance through the air Johansson passed the eye test with flying colors. On the defensive side of the ball we didn't need to do much of anything with Lawrence, Cannon, and the rest of the d-line dominating down in the trenches. While Richmond were never going to have a receiver the likes of whom would challenge Kristen Werther, it was good news to see her dominating in her first career start. Werther is going to need to be on top of her game with a conference that contains someone like Nikolas Isaksen, Cold Hill's best receiver. And we know that once we get into the postseason and out of conference slate Werther will have to hold her own against some high quality athletes.

I'm expecting much of the same from KCU next week with us traviling to Dotivija to take on another newcomer in the University of Lekenik who got smashed by Elliot Roach and the Richardson Governors next week. If you are losing to Richardson by 35 points then you probably have some work to do. Speaking of Richardson they travel to Chicken King in week three in what could be the start of the next chapter of the KCU-Richardson rivalry without Steinheil on the opposing sideline.

Swisston's fourth season starts out with a whimper
Image
It wasn't to be for Swisston in week one

It looked like progress had been made last year when Swisston took down KCU and were oh so close to being the only team to beat Cold Hill during the regular season but a slow finish ended with a 7-7 record which is quite meh. Many have said Diego Rodriguez was one of if not the most underrated and under appreciated players in college football these past few seasons and one week into the first season without him and they sure look to be correct. I mean there's a reason he was drafted into the RFL becoming just the fourth Kohnheadian to sign a professional contract and he did it the same year as our former #1 receiver William Carey did.

The new Swisston under Jeffery Bolton did not look very good with Bolton consistently failing to connect with a talented receiving core. Kaytlynne Sellers is clearly the best player on this offense and while it's still shocking to see a team stacking the box against Swisston it shouldn't be as big of a surprise. Bolton isn't a terrible player by any stretch of the imagination but he can't really elevate this team and going up against a defense as good as the one Cold Hill has is never the best circumstances for any player.

Yes that's right Cold Hill have a good defense for the second straight season with Candace Ferrett playing quite well off the edge and Victoria Mio blanking Chromatik freshman Sya Kallow who had the unfortunate job of being welcomed into college football by one of the best corners in the game. The defense didn't play terrible, even if Robin Sterling doesn't quite match the caliber of Strathos and Rhine holding any Cold Hill offense to only 17 points is an achievement.

The defense which was once a really young core is aging and getting better and better each season and for the first time in Swisston's short history in the NSCF it may be the defense doing most of the heavy lifting. However with a trip to Dietrich Stadium in the cards for next week the Army Knives are staring 0-2 right in the face which would put lots of pressure on Callum Newman whose seat grows hotter having failed to give Swisston a winning record in any of their first three seasons.

Season 2 Champions: East Omnio High School (MVP: WR Alessandro Mio)
Season 3 Champions: Mt. Niar High School (MVP: QB Sarai Gwenderyn)
Season 4 Champions: Mt. Niar High School (MVP: QB Sarai Gwenderyn)

Season 7 Champions: Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School (MVP: QB Liara Anderson)
Season 8 Champions: Vitoron School of Charge (MVP: QB Anne-Maurice Vivayavich)

Reminder: Tiebreakers are H2H Results then H2H PD. For three-way ties, overall PD is used as the first tiebreaker, and then H2H Results come in for the second and third teams. For ties involving more than three teams, overall PD is used.

Last time around, we talked about the best talent in the Rainbow, Mountain, Coastal, and Heartland Districts. It's time to head to the Islands - and the Capital District. Let's see what waits us.

Myana Conference
Favorites: Myana Northwestern High School Blue and White, Pier High School Anglers
Dark Horses: Navy Academy High School Anchors, Myana Southeastern High School Fathoms
Cellar Dwellers: Myana Central High School Armored Mice, Anchors Academy Victors
Star Players: Myana Northwestern High School MLB Kerron Nicholas (Jr), Myana Northwestern High School RB Cho Sang-Wook (So), Myana Northwestern High School CB Lina Bonsoon (Jr), Pier High School QB Jerome Eddison (Jr), Pier High School CB Hans Zimmer (Sr), Pier High School OLB Jeri Attison (So), Navy Academy High School WR Cado Mysticus (Jr), Navy Academy High School DT Wilhelm Cyngus (Jr), Myana Southeastern High School QB Derrick Constance (Sr), Myana Southeastern High School CB Genvieve Horace-Jackson (Sr), Myana Central High School OLB Margaret Hines (Jr), Anchors Academy OT Heinrik Esteban (Jr).
The Rundown: This is one of the toughest conferences in the country in one of the toughest Districts out there, and it isn't even close. On one hand, there's Pier High School, the Anglers being happy to have finally broken the stranglehold that the Blue and White had had on the division for the longest time; with the trio of Jerome Eddison, Hans Zimmer, and Jeri Attison, the Anglers have all the markings of a team that could be a perennial powerhouse. Speaking of the Blue and White, though, Myana Northwestern is back with a vengeance - a defense led by Kerron Nicholas and Lina Bonsoon, with a backfield that features Cho Sang-Wook, a shifty running back between the tackles. The Blue and White only have two seniors on their starting lineup, but they will be around in the end. Looking to shock the both of them will be Navy Academy High School, with a true number one in Cado Mysticus and a giant at the middle of the line in Wilhelm Cyngus, and a superstar in Myana Southeastern QB Derrick Constance, who would love nothing more than to take down his rivals in Myana Northwestern. With Genevieve Horace-Jackson by his side, it could be done. For Myana Central High School and Anchors Academy, this will just be another season, though Margaret Hines and Heinrik Esteban are fun to watch.

Island Conference
Favorites: Bouveil Historical School Barracudas, Inon School for the Arts Reef
Dark Horses: Egren Academy Inquisitors, Academy of the Jungle Cats
Cellar Dwellers: Limonte High School Wheels, Eyrods Central High School Mean Green
Star Players: Bouveil Historical School QB Kya Cheri (Sr), Bouveil Historical School TE Han Byung-Ma (Sr), Bouveil Historical School SS Frank Kirribotton (Jr), Inon School for the Arts WR Nancy Hilman (Jr), Inon School for the Arts OLB Rhee Markson (So), Inon School for the Arts DE Michelangelo Illyx (Jr), Egren Academy QB Theodore Hawkson (Jr), Egren Academy FS Yera Mheel (Sr), Academy of the Jungle QB Eza Danielson (Jr), Academy of the Jungle WR Anderson Kraut (Sr), Limonte High School CB Mars Watson (Jr), Eyrods Central High School RB Jay Sodden (Sr).
The Rundown: This is the hardest conference to pick, with four teams finishing 5-5 last season, but we'll give it a shot. This should finally be the year for the Barracudas to reign, with eight seniors in their starting lineups including Kya Cheri, the very physical dual-threat Quarterback, Han Byung-Ma as the leading blocker and security blanket, and an absolute ball hawk in Frank Kirribotton. Inon School for the Arts will also be staking their claim, with the emergence of Nancy Hilman as a speedy receiver, Rhee Markson leading the conference in sacks last season, and Michelangelo Illyx being a Defensive End that can do it all; they do have a Freshman QB in Larson Dittle, but just how much can the Quarterback hold them back? For the defending champions of the Academy of Jungle Cats, Eza Danielson and Anderson Kraut will be making music together, while the Inquisitors of Egren Academy have Theodore Hawkson and Yera Mheel to lead them. Even the likes of the Wheels and the Mean Green could surprise, especially if the Wheels' Mars Watson continues his spectacular play and Jay Sodden pops off for the Mean Green.

Emerald Conference
Favorites: Staramara Tech High School Battle Angels, Staramara Athletics Academy Rangers
Dark Horses: Tor High School Shooting Stars, Qet School of Ornithology Albatrosses
Cellar Dwellers: Qet High School Pumas, Block High School of Tor Wights
Star Players: Staramara Tech High School WR Romeo Carl (Jr), Staramara Tech High School FS Harold Hynes (Sr), Staramara Tech High School LT Finn Canne (Sr), Staramara Athletics Academy QB Noelle Fisk (Sr), Staramara Athletics Academy WR Kern Simonds (Sr), Staramara Athletics Academy LT Oswin Catweiler (Sr), Tor High School TE Barry O'Neil (So), Tor High School MLB Annie Jakobs (Jr), Qet School of Ornithology QB Ginny Plox (Jr), Qet School of Ornithology C Pietr Milinovich (Sr), Qet High School FS Ilyana Tsova (Jr), Block High School of Tor WR Nox Grayson (Sr).
The Rundown: Staramara is a gridiron football town, and Tor and Qet are just here to fill things out. Last season, the Rangers of Staramara Athletics Academy overthrew the Battle Angels of Staramara Tech High School, and pieces of that roster remain - Noelle Fisk is a senior, while Kern Simonds will still be around and Oswin Catweiler will help protect her blind side. Staramara Tech High School, on the other hand, have Romeo Carl and Finn Canne, with Harold Hynes being the defensive key piece. One of these two schools will win the title. Tor High School and Qet School of Ornithology have an outside chance, with Barry O'Neil and Annie Jakobs helping the squad for the Shooting Stars and the Albatrosses are led by pocket passer Ginny Plox and C Pietr Milinovich. Lastly, Ilyana Tsova and Nox Grayson will try to lift their squads, but it will prove to be too much of a task.

Silver Conference
Favorites: Urrhed High School Sand Vipers, Tihon Elite Academy Fog Wall
Dark Horses: Wave High School Surfers, Central Tihon High School Knives
Cellar Dwellers: Northern Urrheddiao High School Royal Purple, Southern Urrheddiao High School Gold
Star Players: Urrhed High School QB Eduard Hickson (Jr), Urrhed High School WR Xaya Larr (Sr), Urrhed High School SS Anya Notis (So), Tihon Elite Academy TE Kendra Hicks (Jr), Tihon Elite Academy CB Drew Piox (Sr), Tihon Elite Academy CB Rend Vitt (Sr), Wave High School QB Way Kloss (Jr), Waves High School RT Terrance Cannon (Jr), Central Tihon High School RB Matthias Sandoval (Jr), Central Tihon High School OLB Jack Nyor (Sr), Northern Urrheddiao High School SS Lana Dott (Sr), Southern Urrheddiao High School QB Bernice Draymond (Jr).
The Rundown: Worst to first? Not that far fetched, when it's Tihon Elite Academy you're talking about. First, QB Sean Ilhan is now a Sophomore, and will be better suited to utilize Kendra Hicks as his security blanket, but the strength of this team is their CB tandem of Drew Piox and Rend Vitt, who will absolutely lock down the back end. The Sand Vipers of Urrhed High School won't give up their crown easily, with Eduard Hickson and Xaya Larr pacing their attack; Anya Notis is the defensive captain providing pressure. Elsewhere, Way Kloss is the gunslinging quarterback of the Surfers protected by Terrance Cannon, while Central Tihon High School will be good both running the ball and stopping the run. The two other Urrheddiao schools - northern and southern - will find the season difficult, but Bernice Draymond is a fun athlete to watch, and Lana Dott can really hit.

Revolution Conference
Favorites: Vitoron School of Charge Robots, East Omnio High School Geomancers
Dark Horses: Alnio Academy of the Arts Spectrum, West Omnio High School Spectral Monks
Cellar Dwellers: Flames of the Revolution High School Tears, Alnio High School Fireworks
Star Players: Vitoron School of Charge WR Eduard Wallard (Sr), Vitoron School of Charge WR Kuma Sandt (Jr), Vitoron School of Charge WR Uriah Anyar (Jr), Vitoron School of Charge WR Matthias Darkk (Jr), East Omnio High School QB Lance Ott (Jr), East Omnio High School FS Wang Hi-Jin (Sr), East Omnio High School WR Jill Maksile (Jr), Alnio Academy of the Arts RB Mike Journnais (Jr), Alnio Academy of the Arts OLB Whitney Coons (Sr), West Omnio High School QB Harold Kearns (Sr), West Omnio High School TE Gerard Munst (Jr), Flames of the Revolution High School OLB Ceryl Kyppo (Jr), Alnio High School FB Pang Gisim (So).
The Rundown: Anne-Maurice Vivayavich graduates, but the Robots are back in force. With four Wide Receivers all returning, Sophomore Quarterback Mtupeni Onwuatuegwu will have a plethora of options to throw to. Trying to stop the Charge will be East Omnio, returning after an absence of a few years, led by Lance Ott under center and Jill Maksile being the true #1 threat. Leading their defense will be Wang Hi-Jin, who will have his hands full when the two sides clash. Elsewhere in the conference, Alnio Academy of the Arts has the best rushing game in the conference with Mike Journnais, while Whitney Coons is a solid coverage backer; West Omnio High School has Harold Kearns throwing bombs, most of the time to trusty Tight End Gerard Munst. Ceryl Kyppo will be among the leaders in sacks for the Tears, while Pang Gisim is a true fullback.

Grandmaster Conference
Favorites: Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted Masterminds, Gurshan High School Drills
Dark Horses: Hanai Central High School Cruisers, Aya K. Jackson High School Runners
Cellar Dwellers: Air Force Academy High School Wings, Wirr Tsi Capital School Bears
Star Players: Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted WR Nicholas St. Claire (Sr), Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted DT Mack Honnack (Sr), Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted SS Peter Rundstead (Jr), Gurshan High School QB Wiles Moray (So), Gurshan High School WR Liana Orenshett (Jr), Gurshan High School MLB Millie Swayne (Sr), Hanai Central High School QB Mikayla Anne (Jr), Hanai Central High School TE Barbara Ederron (Sr), Aya K. Jackson High School RB Ty Mott (Jr), Aya K. Jackson High School OLB Jack Middleston (Jr), Air Force Academy High School FS Ren Talbott (Jr), Wirr Tsi Capital School QB Kerri Pilsnoff (Jr).
The Rundown: After one season of being overshadowed by the Cruisers, the Masterminds are back - led by two Seniors in Wide Receiver Nicholas St. Claire, a true #1 receiver, and Mack Honnack, who's very disruptive in the defensive front. Peter Rundstead provides the physicality the team needs, and they know how to utilize these three players. With the Cruisers having lost three offensive linemen, it's the Gurshan High School Drills that are projected to finish second - with Wiles Moray being decent with his legs as well as his arm, Liana Orenshett being one of the better possession based receivers in the country, and Millie Swayne being the cog in the defensive side. Not that the Cruisers won't be around the top - Mikayla Anne and Barbara Ederron are too good for that. Aya K. Jackson High School will be the run first squad, while Ren Talbott and Kerri Pilsnoff will be the players to watch for Air Force Academy and Wirr Tsi Capital School.

Chromia Conference
Favorites: South Chromia High School Terror, Checkers High School Chessmen
Dark Horses: North Chromia High School Hotshots, Central Heights High School Defenders
Cellar Dwellers: The Chromatik Institute Dread, Chromia School of History Knights
Star Players: South Chromia High School QB Mark Hansoff (Jr), South Chromia High School TE Lark Golia (Sr), South Chromia High School CB Packard Goss (Sr), Checkers High School RB Manny Bolsatt (Sr), Checkers High School QB Randy Pass (Jr), Checkers High School C Eduard Bane (Sr), North Chromia High School OLB Justin Sai (Jr), North Chromia High School CB Henry Osweiller (Jr), Central Heights High School C Everett Jones (Sr), Central Heights High School LT Trevor Marr (Sr), The Chromatik Institute P Lance Dior (Sr), Chromia School of History P Kieron Walsh (Jr).
The Rundown: Another ridiculously even conference, it's about time that someone else than Central Heights and Checkers win the conference. South Chromia is an interesting prospect with Mark Hansoff, a southpaw who can really sling the deep ball. Lark Golia is great at intermediate routes, while Packard Goss can really take away the other team's #1. Checkers High School has an every-down back in Manny Bolsatt and a decently accurate Quarterback in Randy Pass, with Eduard Bane heading up the line. North Chromia High School has a great defensive side of the ball in Justin Sai and Henry Osweiller, while the Defenders will try to recover from The Ball's absence, Everett Jones still around with Trevor Marr on the line. For the Dread and the Knights, it's their punters that stand out, which really shows how bad their teams are.

Black & White Conference
Favorites: Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School Martyrs, Facsimile High School Enigma
Dark Horses: Kynxe High School Monsoon, Capital District Academy Regiment
Cellar Dwellers: Dre'a Elite Academy Darkness, Nonian Central High School Naysayers
Star Players: Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School QB Noah Sellers (So), Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School RB Isidore Kraut (So), Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School WR Edison Dotwiler (Sr), Facsimile High School DE Sang Do-Yeon (Jr), Facsimile High School CB Mason Catje (Jr), Facsimile High School SS Giles Meer (Sr), Kynxe High School RB Willie Kyne (Jr), Kynxe High School MLB Nancy Jackson-Jones (Jr), Capital District Academy C Jayson "Jazz" Cantor (Sr), Capital District Academy CB Ken Geode (Sr), Dre'a Elite Academy K Lee Milik (Sr), Nonian Central High School QB Neon Meer (Jr).
The Rundown: The Martyrs are one of the best run programs in the country, and this season shouldn't be any different - even if the only senior on the starting offense is Wide Receiver Edison Dotwiler. Noah Sellers is developing nicely, while Isidore Kraut is a physical running back. Facsimile High School will be their biggest challengers, with a defense featuring Sang Do-Yeon, Mason Ctaje, and Giles Meer, who's projected to be a Top Ten prospect heading into NSCF 27. Kynxe High School does have Willie Kyne, a speedy back and Nancy Jackson-Jones, a very physical Middle Linebacker, but they lack a good enough quarterback; the Regiment of Capital District Academy have a rock in Jazz Cantor and a ball hawk in Ken Geode. Last but not least, Lee Milik is one of the better kickers in the country while Neon Meer is the only hope for the Naysayers.

What do you do when you have risen to the top after struggling for years to try and get there? The Rockets of Raynor University stunned the NSCF scene when they made their massive turnaround after losing the first two games of their campaign last season only to never lose another game again en route to their first ever NSCF title, finally getting one over on their domestic rivals of Mar Sara. It was the one thing that was left that the Raiders had been able to hold over the school from the capital, when the Raiders at the time were an almost completely unknown and rode their luck and talent all the way to a title. With the Rockets able to finally win the NSCF championship, they have eclipsed the Raiders in every way possible, constantly winning the Battle for the Royal Sabre, dominating the recruiting game, as well as constantly winning conference titles while the Raiders have been forced to play second fiddle to Raynor while they have been a complete ascent over the last several seasons. The question though, was how were the Rockets going to respond to winning the championship, if they would rest on their laurels or would they try to retain that title.

That question was answered in a huge way in the opening game in the capital, as a Poafmersia team came into the capital of the Eternal Empire and walked out with a forty point defeat for their travels to the Empire. The offense will be relying heavily upon the senior leadership of Kualu Luani, as the transfer from Ranoria who lead the team to the title last season was already looking like he was in midseason form in the home opener. Throwing for three hundred twenty two yards and four touchdowns is a very impressive outing for the first game in trying to defend the title that the team won last season. If the Rockets offense is going to fly, it will have to be through the experience and leadership of their skill positions, as the offensive line has been filled with mostly underclassmen and players who did not see much playing time during the championship season. Duke Beckett is there to keep opposing defenses honest though and a hundred nine yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns himself was a good display of that, as well as the thirty-two yards he got lining up as a receiver.

Mar Sara on the other hand had a much more difficult time in their season opener, although that might have been expected when they decided before the season to name a true freshman as a starter at the quarterback position. A freshman from Chromatika, Jericho Swayne was able to impress the coaching staff immensely during the summer workouts and was able to win the starting position over Marco Lindholm for the starting position. Luckily for Swayne, he will be working with a mostly senior laden offensive line and some very skilled players at the skill positions, meaning that his work will not be as difficult as it could have been. All the same, he will be needing to show a lot of moxie and poise if he is going to be able to try and get the Raiders back in a position to be contending with the Rockets for the conference crown as well as trying to get over the apparent curse of not getting past the quarterfinals of the playoffs. It is something that is starting to become a trend for the Raiders and with Mar Sara missing out on Octavien Soh-Brousseau, who committed to Raynor, they needed someone calm under center to not go into a rebuild.

They got their first real test of the season when they travelled to Abahnfleft to take on the former powerhouses of Ceneisis Naval Academy, who experienced something of a resurgence last season but did tail off towards the second half of the conference schedule. Traveling away from home is never easy, especially when you had a true freshman under center and it is the opening game of the season. The Raiders were down seventeen to nil before the first quarter ended, however the team started to calm down in the second quarter, as Ty Gardner started to get fed. A few short passing routes starting to get Swayne some confidence and soon the Raiders were on the roll, cutting the deficit to twenty to fourteen at the half. The Raiders got the ball to start the second half and Swayne got his first touchdown pass three minutes into the third quarter when Blake Joyner took a slant route fifty-seven yards to paydirt. However with three minutes to go, the Raiders were down thirty to twenty-seven. Showing no fear, the team slow marched their way up the field and Ty Gardner diving into the endzone from the one as time expired, giving the Raiders a walkoff victory in a hostile atmosphere, making sure both Vanorian teams opened up their season with a win.

FIREHAWKS' ROOST, FELSWYR, MOUNTAIN DISTRICT - Yes, it's true that three legends left the gridiron field after last year's disastrous campaign, and that their leadership and their work on the field will be missed. However, Felswyr State football is more than just those three players. Faced with the challenge of proving that they can continue to churn out results no matter who they field, and trying to put away the memories of a 6-7 season that saw the defending NSCF champions from NSCF 24 not even make the playoffs, the Firehawks had a difficult task ahead of them in Week One: Sadeg State.

Despite the fact that upstarts Staramara Tech won the conference last season, the Skyhawks and the Firehawks have been the class of the conference, and of the NSCF, in recent history, having won two of the last three titles. Last season, the two teams split; the Skyhawks were one team that Sarai Gwenderyn always had trouble against. Now, facing them in the friendly confines of the Firehawks' Roost, the team showed an entirely new side to their team identity: Nyata Antonucci.

Experts had raised many an eyebrow when Antonucci stuck with the Firehawks through the first three seasons of her career. With Gwenderyn playing Quarterback, the Firehawks rarely lined up with running backs; instead, Antonucci often played the tight end role, or took direct snaps on short yardage situations to get the team that crucial first down. She had been the model citizen when questioned, always saying that the team came first and that she believed in the process.

Perhaps, this game was an indication of why she'd stuck around.

With Jonas Odden at the helm, Offensive Coordinator Naia Curentino broke out formations that Felswyr State had never run with Gwenderyn, as the Firehawks lined up in the I-formation and split back sets in more than a quarter of their plays. Antonucci ran 28 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns, the Kohnheadian, Ranorian, and Banijan offensive line held up, and Odden was efficient, going 13-of-18 for 198 yards as he wasn't asked to do much. Add in a solid defensive performance led by Sage Sterling's five tackles, two pass breakups and one long interception return, and the Firehawks showed that at least for this early going, life post-Gwenderyn wasn't that bad.

The Firehawks even went for two after the first touchdown to try to send an early message, something that the team almost never did during Gwenderyn's tenure.

"We know that she (Sarai) was such a huge part of our first four years," admitted Curentino, "But this is a team of players that love the game, and we are willing to adapt and change as needed. Nyata is someone that we will be leaning on, especially with N. B. Vasilievna blocking for her, and we think we can show that we are still a team with some teeth."

"Nobody can replace Park Mi-Hyeon," stated defensive end Aubin Rouzet when asked about the defensive performance, "But Mazzi and I are ready to go, and Brianna (Oglesby) and Katie (Sawyer) aren't no slouches, either. We will all have to do more than we did last year, but as long as we are on the same page, we can cause some trouble for everyone else."

With Sadeg State down, the Firehawks travel to Cavsar to complete the early slate of Drawkian schools. Though the team has stated that they won't look past anyone, everyone already has Matchday Five circled, and for good reason.

"We have never beaten Staramara Tech," mutters Nicole Manstrom, "And we're going to really take it to the Lava this year."

HALL OF STONE, KRIEGIERSIEN - One of the biggest storylines for the Lava this season is who will end up being the team's Quarterback. Liana Anderson and Haruno Masakazu are both Sophomores and both recruited to take over the job; Laverna Getz has stated that each will start five games, and depending on the result, the winner will be the starter in the Out of Conference games. Each will get to play every opponent once.

Liana Anderson got the start against the Stonecutters, and did an admirable job - a score through the air, another on the ground, and 20-of-28 for 210 yards. Lana Rhodes added 108 yards on the ground, and the Lava got past giving up two rushing touchdowns to the Stonecutters, Rona Candice getting a rare kickoff return to add to the final margin.

"It's all in good competition," said Anderson when asked about the dual-QB situation, "Haruno (Masakazu) is a good athlete, and I'm sure the team will do fine with him, too."

The Lava really missed Jere Rinaldi as they gave up 181 yards on the ground, but that is a work in progress with Lucius Agot just finishing his first start.

"We'll get better," explained Agot, "We simply have to."

Hoofstra University is next, and it'll be a stiff test for the newfound Lava.

Northern Moravica Preview- Off a stunning run to the title game, can this team re-load and chase glory?

Image
Northern Moravica players at training camp

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- We have been waiting, and waiting, for the start of college football season. After a magical, cinderella-like run by Northern Moravica, winning three consecutive road games, in terribly cold weather, to reach the NSCF Final as the #12 seed, hopes are high among the Cougar faithful this year. They've made three straight semifinals, and 2 of the last 3 NSCF Finals, and have been knocking on the door of their second title. However, with change at the crucial positions, including running back and Quarterback, the team will have to re-lock and re-load if they want to reach their fifth ever NSCF Championship Game.

There is change in the Celestia. With the Salamantic Universities leaving NSCF competition, a fierce rival has been removed from the conference. But in a conference full with familiar faces, with historic conference foes from both Barnettsville and South Newlandia filling out the conference, it leaves for an incredibly exciting schedule for Cougars fans.

Last Season Info

Quarterback

Felix Ström of Valanora is going to take the reigns under center for Northern Moravica for the first time. Three years with Vallienté Wagner-Young under center were an unmatched success. He won a NSCF Offensive Player of the Year award, as well as two Celestia Conference titles, going 4-2 against Loyola-Istria, and reaching two NSCF Championship games- although he lost them both. Felix Ström certainly has a lot to live up to. But the Vanorian, as a freshman, still got about a game's worth of playing time last season. It's really hard to make out how that will effect him this season. But it is bound to give him confidence. Felix Ström did, filling in for an injured Vallienté Wagner-Young in NMU's rivalry game with EVU, lead a game-winning fourth quarter drive, that led to a game-winning field goal on the final play of the game in South Newlandia. He even made a start, although he was quickly hurt, as the Cougars 3rd string QB's struggles led NMU to being shut out, at home, for the first time in heaven knows how long by RUoN.

But with a year of some strength training, and a year to learn the playbook, Felix Ström is ready to let it fly in Herzegovina City. The Vanorian, according to Lance Kabuye, is the 'picture-esque' prospect. "Look, I have to spend all this time listening to the radio about how Loyola-Istria is a QB factory and all of that. And I'll admit- Isaka Jawara was pretty decent." Kabuye said. "But we've produced some top tier QBs at this place as well. Chae Heung-Kim. Wagner-Young went to two NSCF title games, and won a NSCF Offensive Player of the Year award to boot. Felix Ström is going to fall in that same tradition. He can do it all. We've seen him practicing over the past year, and over the course of the next three years, I'm very excited for how electric this offense can be with him at the helm."

Not only does Felix Ström have a pinpoint accurate arm, but he's also pretty damn good at running the football. Those designed runs? They can be had now. Maybe Kabuye will incorporate some read-option into his offense. He's got a beavy of weapons around him. While this is his first year of being a starting QB, the Vanorian is not going to crack under the pressure. He's expected to slot right in and continue the school's winning ways.

Coaching Staff Changes

There is continuity for the program at both the offensive and defensive coordinator roles, a surprise for a team who has been to two NSCF championship games in the last three seasons. But there is change elsewhere in the staff. Sebowa Zilaba is the new Special Teams Coordinator, as Kabuye fired his old one. This is after Northern Moravica's special teams was an absolute disaster last season. And that, lies at the doorstep of Alicia Woodbrough. The South Newlandian punter was shambolic last year, as he flubbed multiple holds, both on PATs and field goals, and then shanked punt after punt. The coaching staff's belief in her was described as 'bizarre' by media outlets, as they stood by her the whole season. But if this team wants to be competing for conference titles and more, they had no choice but to fix things up on Special Teams.

And that's exactly what they went out to do. They got a transfer from Loyola-Jinja(much to the consternation of officials at Loyola-Istria), as Tekoa Lukwiya transferred to serve as the team's punter. Woodbrough is still there- but she's done, largely, as a starter. She'll be a backup. For NMU fan's sake, and the sake of Lance Kabuye's blood pressure, there are prayers everywhere that she doesn't see the field again.

Key Players

EDGE Ailo Børve

One of two nominees for NSCF 25 Defensive Player of the Year, Ailo Børve was the defensive leader for a team that went to the NSCF Championship Game on the backs of their defense. The anchor of the Northern Moravica defense got his due, and he recovered the game-ending fumble that ended Cold Hill's quest for an undefeated season- in the semifinals of NSCF 25. Returning for his senior season, he's a team captain who is here to get his degree, and go from there.

While he's not quite Abram Fairbanks, he's still an elite EDGE rusher who is going to give defenses all sorts of fits this season. He's a guy who simply demands double teams because of his speed and power, and that makes him a problem to deal with for defenses. Him continuing to demand those double teams will be key to allow other players to get to the quarterback. The four year starter is quite decorated, with a pair of Celestia Conference championships, as well as two NSCF title game appearances, to his name. Can he get a third of each in his senior year?

WR Jannik Nadine

Nadine has all the trappings of a superstar WR. He's got the size, the hands, the breakaway speed, and even the proud personality to go with it. A former #1 overall recruit out of Ranoria, he was a perfect pairing with Wagner-Young last season. But now, as a sophomore, he's got to take more responsibility. He will be the WR1 for the Cougars this year. With a brand new Quarterback, of course, his experienced weapons will be crucial to getting Felix Ström acclimated, and Nadine is one of those weapons. He's one of those rare WRs that can simply be thrown open. That connection is going to be crucial. If they can get off to a flying start, well, with three years projected together, this QB/WR duo of Felix Ström and Jannik Nadine may be the greatest that NMU has ever seen.

Honorable Mentions..

TE Zachery Lewis

The senior will be an important security blanket for their first year starter at QB.

DT Urk McCauley

The dominant DT will be at the center of a NMU defense with a lot of fresh faces, that intend to finish as the conference's best.

FS Drew Lia

The athletic senior safety will serve as the backbone and playmaker of the defense. The Chromatik will be a crucial part of the Cougars secondary.

Prediction

8-2! And Celestia Conference champions, wrestling the title back from Loyola-Istria by defeating them, on the final day of Conference play, at the Istria Lightning Yard. How insane would that be?

HERE COMES THE IRISH!

Université du Saguenay : A Factfile.

Postgraduates: 5974

As for the institution itself, Université du Saguenay (official known as Université du Saguenay à South Bend) is considered one of the best universities in Quebec, in particular for its undergraduate education. While excellent across the board, Saguenay is in particular renowned for its world-renowned Cavani School of Business, Lawrence A. Gong School of Architecture, and humanities programs. The university is also renowned for the need-blind admissions policy, as well as its ability to meet 100% of a student’s demonstrated financial need- something that only 5 Québécois institutions can proudly say so.

The university's unique culture, that promotes both the scientific knowledge and religious education, results in the school and its alumni network (only rivalled by St. Croix and Farrer) having close ties to the Québécois elite, in both Saguenay province and those in Montreal the economic capital and Quebec City the artistic and administrative capital of Québec. The Sagueneen elite of both Catholic and Buddhist denominations, seeing the need of a classical institution in Saguenay without having to travel to Québec City, built UdS in considered the capital of Quebecois traditional culture and folk traditions in 1792. Since then, Université du Saguenay has been a centre of Quebecois Religious Thought and also the Quebecois Thought. Atlantian Oceania is a region notable for its centrist political scene with penchant for hereditary power, and Quebec is among them, for its leftist leaning is partly contradicted by long history of purging republicanism - with the most recent purge happening just eight years ago (2034). This thought has partly influenced the Fighting Irish to stand out, as UdS and the Saguenay province are considered the baton of Classical Quebecois Conservatism.

Head Coach: Clement van Eeden Youngblood, 52

Clement van Eeden Youngblood is one of the most experienced head coaches to have come out of Quebec and Shingoryeo in recent years. As with Kweon Joon-Ho of St. Croix, he had a limited career that while had him spend four years as a letterman-earning rover (safety-OLB linebacker) at California University, institution better known for having top 10 teams in every sport not named football (lol), and spent most of his time preparing for a transition into different career. Unlike his extroverted brother, former national team wrestler and current RQOC vice-president and a member of Olympic Council (one of three Quebecois there, with Pierre as the chair of Wrestling Competition Committee of the Olympic Council) Pierre, he had no intention in going into an administrative or national team career, Clement decided to turn into coaching as his next move.

The gamble he's made over three decades ago had turned fruitful, however, as he found himself rising in coaching ladders of every capacity. Initial decade as a high school coach, where he began it with a bang as the head coach of legendary Walton High School team quarterbacked by none other than Dexter Ahn (and his brother Vontaze played two-way right after that), was followed by 5 years in defensive coordinator gig at St. Croix, where he helped St. Croix bring a Tiger Bowl. Eventually it was his turn to take greater responsibilities, and he's spent last thirteen years coaching Yongma College, a historic team known for their 7-5 and 8-4 finishes, into 4 New Year's 6 Bowls and 5 top 10 finishes on national rankings.

In his two seasons with Saguenay, he's kept himself as a mostly program manager and coordinator with his coordinators, all three of them highly experienced and with history of winning, given most playcalling duties. These days he plans out more time working out overall team plans, visions and running the program the way his predecessor, legendary Baek Sang-Joon, had done so, but without the obsession to details as Baek had once done so on defence. So far it's worked out fine, especially with Nadine Rees holding well on bend-but-not-break defence and Sara Lee Hampton being one of the best OCs in all of NSCF, and a NY6 bowl victory his year 1 and a Tiger Bowl in his year 2 more or less prove that. More is to be seen if this translates on the NSCF stage though, especially considering the high-mileage nature of the spring ball, and how intensive the competition can sometimes get here.

Offensive Coordinator: Sara Lee Hampton, 37 (Chromatika)
Defensive Coordinator: Nadine Rees, 46
Special Teams Coordinator: Yunesky Munoz, 48

Style of Play: Spread Offence / 4-3 Defence
