This is the OOC discussion thread for the 16th Winter Olympics (qualifiers) on NS Sport.
New events are being contested at these Games. Please do not copy and paste an old signup.
TIMING
The deadline for all entries and alteration of entries is, with no exceptions, set at 12:00 UTC 21 March 2022.
INSTRUCTIONS
Please pay attention and read through the following information very carefully. If there is a problem with your sign-up, it may not be entered and you might need to resubmit your entries.
Copy the event list below. Under each event, write the names of the athletes participating in each event. The number inside the bracket indicates the maximum number of entries a delegation may send to an event.
DO NOT COPY AND PASTE AN OLD SIGNUP. Event names and quota limits have changed since the last Winter Olympics.
- If only the maximum number is shown—e.g., “(2)”—it is an individual event, and you must give the name of each participating individual on a separate line. (You may enter fewer than the maximum number.)
- If a team event has a specific team size indicated—e.g., “(1 team of 4)”—you must give the name of each team member on a single line, separated by slashes.
- If a team event just says “(1 team)”, use the name of your nation or delegation, rather than the names of any team members. You may post your team rosters for these events in the roster thread, which will be created near the start of the Games.
- No signups are being taken for men's biathlon pursuit, women's biathlon pursuit, luge team relay, figure skating team event, freestyle skiing mixed team aerials event. These are automatic-qualification events depending on performances in either other qualifiers, or other individual finals. To qualify as a team, individual entries from unified or combined delegations must have the same trigramme.
The individual or team names on each line should be followed by your nation or delegation’s three-letter code and a skill modifier, each separated by a semicolon, as shown in the example entry below. If you don't have any athletes participating in a particular event, please remove it from your sign-up sheet. Do not 'tag' or add a post and say that you are going to edit in your entry later as they will be ignored.

SKILL MODIFIERS
A skill modifier is used to determine how well an athlete or a team performs in an event. It is a whole number from 0 to 100: 0 for the athletes just making the qualification standard (i.e. still decent compared to the 'average' person) and 100 for the world's best. A team entry gets a single skill modifier for the entire team, while an athlete participating in multiple events has a separate modifier for each event. Automatic entries do not contribute to the entry average. All medal event entries, as well as demonstration event entries, must average 50 or under.
Submitting unrealistic delegations of extremely high and low values with no spread, or 'min-maxing', will result in a reduced min-max avoidance bonus (MMAB). This may adversely affect how well your delegation does.
MMAB will apply, with demonstration signups also included in the calculations, as follows:
1–10 entries: Full MMAB for any STDEV
11–30 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 33.0 or less
31–99 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 30.0 or less
100–150 entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 27.0 or less
151+ entries: Full MMAB for STDEV of 24.0 or less
MMAB will scale proportionally to how far over the acceptable each delegation is. The 33% RP bonus penalty instituted by Kelssek for the last Winter Olympics will apply to delegations with a standard deviation more than three points above the limit, or for any delegation with 11+ entries with a standard deviation over 33.
ENTRY LIMITS
Each user may enter a maximum of two delegations, with the main and the puppet delegation clearly marked. There is no maximum limit for one delegation but puppet delegations may not enter more than 120 entries – sufficient to enter at least one entry in each event. All puppets and unified teams should be declared, and puppets should have a different trigramme.
QUALIFICATION SYSTEM
Following the closing of signups, all entered entries will be split into pre-Olympic qualifiers, to be branded under a single Qualifiers for the 16th Winter Olympics banner. Only the defending champions in each event (if entered), the reigning world champions in ice hockey (applies to both genders), and one host entry per event, will receive automatic qualification to the Games proper.
Any user with a hosting background on NSS would be welcome to apply to host a qualifying series in any sport (although the final decision on which nations will host qualifying events will be taken by me). These series will last no more than a week. Should all the athletes from a delegation fail to qualify by merit in an event, the top-ranked athlete (by performance, not by skill rating) will be advanced to the Games proper. This provision will not apply to Liventia, as Liventia will have an automatic entry in each event regardless. This provision will also not apply to team events (mixed team events, relays, curling, and ice hockey).
In all non-team events with qualifiers, entering only 1 entry in an event guarantees that that entry will compete at the Olympics, either by qualifying on merit or by the advancement provision.
To apply to host a qualifying series, you MUST have hosted a recognised international tournament in NS Sport. There is NO LIMIT to the number of sports you may apply to host a qualifying event in. Applications should be made PUBLICLY with your signup post, with the following information:
