混沌 (Kaaos/Chaos) + LET'S TALK (让我们谈谈)

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Thu Mar 31, 2022 2:41 pm

To say that the past week had been the most chaotic in Lam Chow-Cheung's recent career would be a serious understatement.
The effects and ripples from that Saturday in Brisbane were still being felt both by LCC and HM and you could certainly understand why.
But how were they all doing now? What did they think about everything?
Is Lam OK?

The mood on that Sunday in Brisbane was certainly interesting. Lam ended up 30th and Aurélia Karvonen in 21st and while the rumours about what had happened that Saturday was beginning to bubble, the only team member that knew about what happened was Daniel Marx himself...and he was fucking livid. Vitun Vihainen. Kai Qiang winning that race almost disgusted him and while GFR's support was certainly impeccable, he could see that sooner or later, things were going to come out - and so, he called an emergency meeting, the first in HM history, and from there, everyone at the Kimi-Suomen outfit was duly notified of both what Marx understood had happened (through Lam's content, of course) and what the next course of action should be.

Of course, everyone had heard a little bit from the rumour mill about an "ugly incident" between their friend and Kai Qiang but once they were clued in, the response was almost instantaneous. Lam was certainly supported by practically everyone while the shock of what had happened certainly made everyone understand that what happened next would be just as important as what had come before. Of course, they couldn't let this go lying down...but they also couldn't act like fools in the process. So, a plan was devised - business as normal until after the Toys '4' All 500, when Lam would release a rare statement on their twii.tur (@LCC38) to address everything - something the racing world could digest before Sunday's Vilaye Clash. After that...well, they'd think about that before Tropicoast at least

And so, it was "business as usual" - if you asked HM, that is. This weekend, on track, would actually turn out to be one of their best ever - Kaarina Salo ended up with HM's first-ever pole position and then converted that into 4th, Ilmari Pëkannen recovered immensely to go from 22nd to 7th, Karvonen had a good weekend in 24th and while LCC, with all the pressure on their shoulders, ended up in 27th, they ended up in 11th for qualifying - a moment of pure catharsis for a lot of people at #38.

But off the track, the discussions ramped up - twiis about the rumours, a note postered on the #38 truck, a hamper from Team Blue of all people (though calling them "Lamb Chow" wasn't exactly in good taste from Drake), GFR being the lovable folks they were - it just seemed like everyone was trying to help...even if they didn't understand everything that had happened...though they would soon enough.

But what about Lam themselves? How were they feeling about it all? Well, Lam has been feeling a number of different emotions ever since the event of Saturday - confused about who sent that note about "Never Meet Your Heroes", heart warmed by the support from places like GFR and even Team Blue (unlike Marx, they didn't mind "Lamb Chow"), static after their 11th in that Qualifying...and empty, after a lot of reflection on what happened that Saturday in Brisbane. They had certainly thought for a long while about what they would say...but after their 27th tonight, it was finally time. All those emotional fireflies were about to be unleashed...不论结果好坏 (regardless of the outcome)。

LET'S TALK
让我们谈谈

Hello. Yes, it's me.
I never thought I would be using this account for anything other than posting random pictures of my NSSCRA travels, to be completely honest.
But I felt like I needed to do this...as things have certainly...happened.
I'm sure you are all aware of what and I will address that here.
But I will also hoe to bring everyone who reads this some much-needed context around this topic.
I'm sorry if what I say isn't a pleasant read...but I will certainly try to convey everything to you all in the best way I can.

Ever since the events of Saturday in Brisbane, I have...felt a lot of things and have contemplated what I'm about to say.
I don't want to share everything about what happened, as I don't want to be seen as breaking the realms of privacy.
But I will share some details on a few questions that have been floating around ever since last week.

What happened?
Kai Qiang entered the room at GFR looking for someone from their camp and ended up finding me and the Yeezies.
I was there because I was giving my good friends some gifts, but the arrival of my Chinese racing idol was certainly another highlight.
I had always wanted to meet him, the person who got me through a lot of stuff back home, and to see him in the flesh was certainly great.
But then...he removed the mask...just like that.
I didn't defend myself because I...thought I could trust him and yet, the mask...ended up in his hands as he questioned why I was wearing it at all.
I ended up almost having a panic attack before I...decided to take matters into my own hands and...just...told him the reason why I wore it.
I was...very emotional...and...I just about...got through it.
It pained me...to go back to that time...and everything I had gone through...but I felt it was necessary to...de-escalate the situation.

Do you hold any resentment against Qiang for what happened?
That question is certainly difficult to answer. Especially after what happened.
On the one hand, I hold huge respect for Qiang Kai - a legend of Chinese racing and someone that got me through a lot of stuff back home.
When I was truly in the dark and stuck in a nightmare, it was NSSCRA that got me through it - especially rooting for Car #44.
I spend a good few Sundays cheering for him and without the influence he had on my life...I don't know what would've become of me.
But...what happened in Brisbane...really...crushed my heart.
There was my idol, the one...I had adored for a long time, holding...the mask I held just as dear.
I wasn't sure what to think back then...and I still don't know now.
I hope, one day, I can...talk with him in...better circumstances, because he still is the one I turned to...in my darkest hour.
But...that day...he crossed a big line...and I don't know...if I can...forgive him for that...as of now.
I respect him as a driver - of course, I do - but...I don't know if I...want to talk to him...at least for a little while.

Why do you wear that mask anyway?
I know I don't have to answer this one.
I know that I could just leave this out.
I know my new friends said to do things "in my own time".
But the answer to this question...one that I know a lot of the racing world has been pondering...is a key component of this story and...leaving it out would feel wrong on my part.

Kai initially thought it was due to my...gender identity but...while it does play a part, it isn't the entire reason.
If there are people out there who don't know, then I will tell it to them straight: I identify myself as non-binary, or genderqueer if you prefer.
I exhibit this in a number of ways: wearing gender-neutral clothing, wearing make-up behind the mask, using the pronouns they/them and other smaller things.
The mask isn't trying to hide that fact, nor shouldn't it.
I am proud of my identity and while this has brought me pain in the past, it isn't the main reason for the mask.

Some may argue it's because of my status as an Asian driver that means I wear this mask...but that isn't the case either.
I can understand the argument - it has been well documented, both in TJUN-ia and across the world, that drivers and athletes of a non-white background receive more discrimination and abuse than their counterparts.
I am not excluded from that either - but I'm in the mindset of "I'm a driver, this is just what happens to people like me, just ignore it".
Sure, it is certainly wrong - but I've been through much worse.
Many back in TJUN-ia and especially in Kimi-Suomi, a land that doesn't really have a large Asian community, have certainly been kind to me ever since I came to NSSCRA and without their support...I may not be here, to be honest.

But the true reason why I wear this mask...is something that may surprise you: my family. 林家。
When I came out, I had the initial support of the rest of the Lams - the people who raised me and supported my early career.
But..then I decided to wear makeup...and...that was considered...a big red line...by the family.
They...turned on me...and...used words...I would not like to repeat...until I was exiled...and told not to return unless I "became a boy again".
The shame...that invoked in me, the shame of having...your own blood consider you...inhuman...and...a monster, is what led to me wearing the mask.
I felt that the only way my family could ever...support me again...was if I presented myself...with only the name "Lam Chow-Cheung" and not the face of Lam Chow-Cheung.
I know it may sound...stupid, but it feels very real to me...and I was afraid that if I let the mask slip...I would be shown as what they always thought of me as: a freak.
One day I hope to feel confident enough to wear this mask less...and let the world see what is behind the blank canvas.
But until that day...it is a big part of my...identity.
Without it...I feel...like I can't hide what I truly am.
Broken.

I was worried that when I came to NSSCRA, I would be seen as nothing more than a weirdo by...practically everyone.
In fact, I was actually...happy when the major talking point at the start of the season...was the French Army Team and not...me.
But the love and support...a lot of the grid has shown me over the past week...has...warmed my heart.
You all...have made me feel...welcome in your community and...don't know how I could ever repay you all.
But...thank you. Thank you very much. 谢谢你。

My name is Lam Chow-Cheung.
I am from Hongxai and proud.
I am TJUN-ian and proud.
I am proud to race for Huuhkajat Moottoriurheilu and for the people of Kimi-Suomi it represents.
I am an Asian driver, with my roots in what U1 calls "Hong Kong", and I am proud.
I am non-binary and I am proud.
I may wear a mask, but that mask does not hide who I am...or what I may become.

I only ask for one thing, if not anything else:
To be treated as just another racing driver...if that is even possible.

Joachim Murat could not figure out why everyone was asking him if he used make-up. Sure, he put a lot of effort into his appearance, and he went through plenty of skin cream and hair pomade, but why was everyone so interested all of a sudden?

Eventually someone explained it and Murat was absolutely mortified. "Why didn't someone tell me the way I groom myself was considered effeminate in your country? I am not effeminate! I am the manliest man in the Grand Armee!"

"The hell you are!" Lannes, who had overheard, chimed in.

"I'm definitely manlier than you!"

"Kiss my ass, Murat!"

Massena was not around to join in the banter because he was in a Vilitan hospital recuperating after a bad crash. He had taken his usual obnoxiously aggressive approach at the Toy '4' All 500, pushing around the other backmarkers and making a nuisance for the top drivers when they came around to lap him. But then one of the other drivers turned more sharply than Massena expected as they were coming into a corner, what was supposed to be just a gentle tap turned into a hard shove, and Massena was not ready for the way his car bounced off the other driver's. He lost control and spun into the wall, crushing the side of his Beiyang and getting pretty banged up in the process.

Between the crash and his misadventures in Chieujeau, Massena was having a really bad week. His injuries were not life-threatening, and he was trying to put on a brave face, but he was pretty miserable. After getting chased through Chieujeau by a raging bull, he had spent two days cooped up in a cage that was not tall enough for him to stand up, then several hours on an international flight where once again he did not have enough room to get comfortable. By the time he arrived in Lonngeylin, he was all jittery and his back and knees were painfully stiff -- even before the crash. After the crash, he also had some nasty bruises, some cuts and scrapes, a possible concussion, and a dislocated finger. The medics said they were not sure if he would be able to race in Tropicorp.

Berthier stopped in to check on Massena and make sure he would be okay, and they talked a little, but Massena said he didn't need anyone to sit by his bedside. He said the Vilitan nurses were doing a fine job of looking after him. Berthier was not sure if this was a commentary on the quality of Vilitan medical care or a commentary on how hot Massena thought the nurses were, but either way, it was probably okay to leave him alone in their care.

The Frenchmen marveled at the tropical fruits that the hospital served with their meals. Fruit like that would have cost a fortune back in France.

It took a while before the French weighed in on the situation with Lam. For one thing, they were busy with their own problems, and for another thing it took a while to wrap their heads around what "identifying as non-binary" meant.

When they did finally weigh in, it was after NSSCRA had arrived in Tropicoast, and Lannes had the hottest of hot takes: "Qiang should have punched that freak in the face and beat some sense into him."

A couple of days after Massena's crash, Napoleon came to visit him in Lonngeylin, completely ignoring anything Massena had said about not wanting visitors. The situation in Jouoangquoi seemed much more stable now that the French camps were out of Chieujeau and away from the native population, so Napoleon thought he could afford to leave for a little while.

"How are you?" Napoleon asked.

"I'll live."

"Competing in NSSCRA was a mistake," Napoleon said. "It is a distraction from our military objectives, and now you are wounded! The battle at Chieujeau would have gone different if you and Lannes were there from the start of the fighting."

"I will be fine," said Massena. "This is not the worst I have ever been injured."

"It is one thing to risk your life in battle... In battle your actions serve a higher purpose, but in racing you are risking your life for no purpose."

"I will be fine," Massena insisted. "I want to finish the season."

"I need you in Jouoangquoi."

Massena rolled his eyes and said sarcastically, "Like you need me in Portugal?"

Napoleon cringed a little as he was reminded of the military situation in Europe, and he thought about how badly it must have deteriorated by now. He really needed Massena in Portugal several months ago. Now it was probably too late. By now the French forces had probably been driven out of Portugal. Napoleon thought he would be lucky if France itself had not collapsed into anarchy in his absence. He sighed. "I think it may be too late to do anything about the situation in Portugal."

"I didn't want to go anyway."

"Yes, I know, but why are you so interested in continuing NSSCRA?" said Napoleon. "Even if you recover enough to race... Finishing 30th in a race can't possibly compare to the thrill of victory on the battlefield."

"I'm not trying to finish 30th!" Massena said. "And besides, what do you think we are going to do in Jouoangquoi? Our biggest advantage over the natives was our guns, but we can't replenish our stores of gunpowder and ammunition as quickly as we use them. Even if we raided a Jouoangquoirais supply depot, there is practically no gunpowder in the country."

“Everything’s going up,” Wilma von Cärinthen reported to her crew chief. “Engine, water, oil, you name it, it’s all going up!”

“Ah, yeah, that’s very unfortunate, Wilma,” Deckard Sullivan said. “Yeah, I don’t think we can solve that today. Bring the car in. That’s our race over.”

“Copy,” Wilma said dejectedly. “Looks like it wasn’t going to be our day anyway.” She then made sure that her mic was turned off before she let loose her frustration with a single word shouted out loud. ‘SHIT!” she shouted.

Short tracks were always going to be a challenge no matter the driver, but it was especially the case for Wilma von Cärinthen today. She started the day in 19th place and had basically bounced around the field. She never ran in front, but she was somewhat close in 7th place, even if it was only for a few laps, but that would be the high point of her day. After that, she just fell down the order, and no amount of racecraft or pit stop magic could get her to gain any meaningful positions throughout the afternoon. And then things went from bad to worse as Wilma felt someone bump into her and then twist her around which, on a short track like the Lonngeylin Ring, was pretty much a death sentence for her race. Wilma did not see who had hit and turned her because of the smoke from the tires, but when it cleared, she saw another car, the #60, that looked like it hadn’t gone through the incident unscathed as well. The 60 car limped back to the pits almost immediately after the incident, while Wilma tried to keep it going for a few more laps before her crew chief had to tell her to bring it in to prevent further damage.

It had to happen sooner or later, Wilma said to herself as she climbed out of her car. She had been on a good run before Lonngeylin too. There was, of course, the win at Esmerel, and then a second place finish in Brisbane behind Kai Qiang. Those past few weeks had been very good to Wilma, which was why she somehow knew that it couldn’t possibly last forever. Things never went well for her for an extended period of time. Her good luck would only come in short bursts, while her bad luck would span for months, sometimes even years. But that was life for one Wilhelmina von Cärinthen, and she had long ago accepted it. But acceptance didn’t mean that she was okay with this turn of events anyway.

Once again, Wilma sought out a less-traveled corner of the Lonngeylin Ring where she could drown her sorrows in drink, and where she could light up a cigarette or two without attracting too much attention. Wilma had always insisted that she only smoked when she felt like she had a bad day at the office, but with recent race results not having gone her way (Esmerel and Sword Island 1 exempted), even Wilma had to recognize that she was lighting up more often, and that she was potentially on the path to becoming an actual smoker. It had to run in the family, she surmised. She remembered her father, the late Graf Friedrich Wilhelm von Cärinthen, smoking those big clay pipes at almost every occasion, and her mother had been partial to cigarettes as well. It was very likely that Wilma, subconsciously or not, had picked up on this particular habit of theirs and was now starting to display it more overtly.

However, once again it appeared that Wilma hadn’t been alone in finding a secluded spot where she could stew in her own thoughts while surrounded by alcohol and tobacco. This time though, it was Guillermo Archer who was chugging away at some Blood Moon at the place where Wilma had wanted to stay. “What are you doing here?” Wilma asked when she saw Gil at the place.

“What? A man can’t drink in a shadowy and secluded spot in peace now?” Gil retorted almost immediately. “You know, Wilhelmina, I would ask what you’re doing here, but I think I know the answer.”

“Please, man, don’t remind me of what I’m literally trying to forget right now,” Wilma muttered as she sat down on the bench beside the one where Gil was seated.

“Now what are you talking about?” Gil said. “It’s not like you were actually fighting for another win today, right? Not like you were always in the top 10 every single lap before you got spun. Heck, the way things were going for you, you’d probably have been better off just doing a start and park—ow! What was that for?!” GIl shouted after Wilma had punched him in the arm.

“What did I just tell you, huh?” Wilma said. “Don’t remind me of what happened earlier today!”

“All right then, fine! I won’t say anything more!” GIl said. “Like I said, I just wanted to drink here in peace.”

"Then go ahead and drink," Wilma said. "Just act like I'm not even here," she muttered even as she lit a cigarette and exhaled her first puff in one long and steady stream.

"Can you at least make sure that your smoke doesn't blow right into my face?" Gil said as he covered his nose with his free hand. "I don't care if you want to put tar into your lungs, but I certainly mind if you're trying to destroy my lungs as well!"

"Oh, so you're fine with killing your liver, but your lungs is where you draw the line?"

"Don't try to be clever with me, Wilhelmina. You can't bullshit a bullshitter!"

“That is true,” Wilma agreed. “Nothing gets past you, oh mighty bullshitter.”

“What did I just say, man?” Gil asked. “It’s like nobody listens to me!”

“You’re a straight white male, Guillermo. Your voice is the last one anybody needs to listen to.”

“And maybe the old-timey doctors were onto something when they were electrocuting lesbianism out of “hysterical” women.”

Wilma chuckled. “You know, strange as this may sound, I’ve actually missed this,” she said. “I’ve actually missed these little verbal sparring matches with you. I don’t get that a lot these days. Even your boy Yudin just sits there and nods quietly while I’m talking. I mean, he brings up his own problems, but he doesn’t have a barb or two up his sleeve ready to fire at me when I’m bringing up my own issues. I’m telling you, it’s just not the same without you in this team.”

“Come on now, Wilma, you know why I had to give it all up and walk away,” Gil said. “I would so dearly love to be behind the wheel of a NSSCRA car once again, but I just can’t do it anymore, not after I can’t trust my own body. What a shame, really,” he sighed. “I was really looking forward to finally fighting for a title. The boss lady’s intentions with Wang were noble, don’t get me wrong, but didn’t you ever feel like you just wanted to focus on your own title challenge back then?”

“Dude, what do you think I’ve been trying to do all these years?” Wilma said back. “You really think I’ve just been hanging back and taking it easy? I definitely haven’t been taking things easy at all, even if my performances for the past few years don’t show it. Remember that time when I told you that NSSCRA was a way different animal from ARTS?”

“Of course I do,” Gil nodded silently. “Then again, we all knew what we were signing up for, right?”

“Can’t argue with that,” Wilma conceded. The two of them then went silent for a few moments before Wilma spoke up once again. “Sorry if I’m interrupting your thought process here right now, but what are you doing sulking here? I know I have my reasons, but what about you?”

“Took you long enough to ask that, huh?” Gil muttered with a sigh. He then took a deep swig from his can of Blood Moon before sighing again. “I’ve been thinking,” he finally said.

“Now that’s a scary image,” Wilma muttered.

“Thanks,” Gil said immediately without any sense of gratitude. “Anyway, I’ve been thinking about what happened these past few days, what with Qiang exposing that other Chinese guy driving for the old Jag boss.”

“Who, Lam Chow-Cheung?” Wilma asked. “They’re not just a guy, Guillermo. They’re non-binary.”

“The guy in the mask, or used to be in the mask, whatever,” Gil waved off. “Anyway, I’m about to tell you something that I haven’t told anybody else, not even my wife.”

“Oh, whatever kind of juicy secret could this be this time?” Wilma asked sarcastically.

“I’m serious, Wilma! I was there!” Gil said. “Well, I wasn’t there there, but I saw the whole thing happen! Qiang ripping off the mask, Lam falling to the ground trying to cover his face, and then the Yeezies shooing Qiang out of their place. Why do you think I went over to Qiang’s garage without any reason whatsoever?”

“Oh, so you did go to Qiang’s garage back in Brisbane,” Wilma said. “But why? Why would you go there when you know that you’ve had your spats with the guy for the past three years?”

“Like I told you, I just saw what had just happened, and I just told Qiang to take it a little bit easy there,” Gil said. “Shit, if I had known that that was the way to trigger the guy then I should’ve probably worn a mask myself!”

“Are you really sure that Qiang isn’t the one that got under your skin after all of your attempts to get under his?”

“I mean, he just doesn’t play the same game that we do,” Gil shrugged. “What fun is playing and engaging in mind games when the other guy doesn’t want to play? Anyway, I told Qiang that ripping off other people’s masks wasn’t cool, and you know what his first reaction is? Pinasingkit pa niya lalo yung mga mata niya! He made his eyes even narrower than they already are! Like, I didn’t even say anything about race or whatever! He’s the one who brought it up first!”

“I mean, in a way, it’s perfectly understandable why that would be his first reaction to seeing you,” Wilma shrugged. “Out of all the spats that you’ve been involved in your brief NSSCRA career, two of those have involved Chinese drivers. It’s not really enough for it to be called a pattern, but still, it’s weird that it’s happened twice, isn’t it?”

“It’s all a coincidence, if you ask me,” Gil said. “A strange and somewhat creepy coincidence, but a coincidence nonetheless. But in the end, that’s not what’s really bothering me.”

“Then what is? What’s bothering you?” Wilma asked.

“I actually feel bad for the guy!” Gil finally managed to say. “Lam, I mean. Qiang can clearly handle himself. I think we all know that when he refused to bite my bait. But Lam… I don’t know why I’m actually feeling sorry for the kid. Like, normally I’d be on twii.tur right now trying to fan the flames of this feud further, but I just can’t! What’s gotten into me, man? I don’t get it! This is normally the kind of thing that I’d be lapping up, but I just can’t find it in myself to do it. It can’t be because I’m growing old! God knows I’ve been stirring shit my whole life, and that’s the kind of thing that just doesn’t stop just because I’m getting old! Right? Right?”

“Or maybe you are actually getting old,” Wilma suggested. “And you know what comes with that? Sentimentality. You’re getting sentimental, old man. And, despite what you might try to tell yourself, I think that near-death experience you had at the Yoggy affected you more than you’d like to admit. I mean, when you told me about that tumor in your head, you were already talking about legacies, what kind of story you’d be leaving behind once you’re gone for good. You say you don’t care if people remember you as a villain, but deep down, I don’t think that’s true. Everyone wants to be remembered as a good person, even you, or at the very least you want people to remember the good things you did more than the bad things. That’s why I think you’re feeling this conflict in you right now.”

Gil took another sip of his Blood Moon as he pondered Wilma’s words. “You really think so? You think I wanna be remembered as a good guy too?” he asked her after a few moments.

“Well, it’s either that or it’s because you don’t see Lam as a competitor anymore because you’re no longer a racing driver,” Wilma shrugged again. “I don’t know. Sometimes I just pull shit out my own ass as well. You and I are not so different and all that.”

“Hmm, I never actually thought of it that way,” Gil said.

“Women’s intuition, Guillermo,” Wilma said. “You’ll be surprised at how frighteningly effective it is.”

“Wait a minute, isn’t that a gender stereotype? I thought you were all about breaking those down!” Gil exclaimed.

"It's not a stereotype if it's positive!" Wilma said back almost immediately. She made to punch Gil in the arm once again, but the alcohol in her system caused Wilma to lose her balance and fall sideways, right into Gil's lap. She yelped in surprise initially, but once the shock had worn off she started laughing at the sheer absurdity of it all.

“Get off my lap, Wilma!” Gil said. “We don’t want people getting the wrong ideas if they catch us like this!”

“Oh. let them catch us for all I care!” Wilma shouted, the smell of her breath making it clear that she was no longer thinking clearly. She chuckled once again before saying, “Mein Gott, I really have missed this.”

“Yeah, I think it’s time to turn in now,” Gil muttered as he himself could now feel his head buzzing slightly. He threw his now-empty can of Blood Moon into a nearby trash can along with the remnant of Wilma’s cigarette, and then he went back to pick up his fellow driver. After some prompting, Wilma drunkenly swung an arm over Gil’s shoulders and allowed him to lift her up and carry her back to the UrGa garages.

Fun times in Vilita again!
by Stacie Houston, Driver #27 Five Star Mobile Chadwick

Hello, race fans! We're here in Vilita for their annual motorsports extravaganza, headlined by none other than the NSSCRA Cup Series' Toys 4 All 500 and the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash. These are two events that I'm always looking forward to every season, the former because I love short tracks more than anything else in the world (except perhaps Jeremiah Brooke), and the latter because it's an All-Star Race of sorts for this series. I started on pole for the 500, which of course I was happy about, but while I was able to lead laps early, I was unfortunately unable to hold on until the end and had to settle for 15th. Oh well, on to next week. At least I'm now up to second in points, just behind Jeremiah, who got a strong runner-up finish behind only my (friendly) rival and fellow short track ace Yraaga "YG" Gilli'i.

One race down, another to go. Tomorrow we go from the Lonngeylin Ring to the Yutzie River Raceway for the Clash. Being part of Gale Force Racing does have its perks - those guys celebrate such a special event with some special schemes, and imagine my delight when they unveiled a primarily pink #27 for me, reminiscent of my iROS title-winning ride. I was already happy to be in the open heats thanks to my win late last season, but it appeared my pole yesterday allowed me to make the main event alongside Jeremiah. Hopefully Thea Alvarez, our teammate and little sister from another mister, survives the heats and joins us, and same goes with Meghan Sharpe.

"Wait, Stacie," you might ask, "did you just say Meghan Sharpe?"

Oh, you guys didn't know? I spoke to my dear friend and former teammate earlier this week, asking if she'd be interested in coming out of retirement to race in the Clash. Meg told me that she sometimes gets the itch to race, and what better way to scratch it than to accept my offer, she said. I promptly told GFR, who prepared a car for her; she spoke to Spacebook, and they agreed to provide sponsorship (scheme below). How about the number? To those with Meghan Sharpe #4 merch, don't throw them away just yet - Islago Tizilna may be using that digit now, but the Vilitan rookie is not eligible for the event, so it's all good. Oh yeah, with Jenna Logan and Maddie Alexander also being in the entry list, it's gonna be a Team Cassadaigua reunion of sorts. Now if only we can fly Tyler Abbott in to watch....

PS: Lam Chow-Cheung, if you're reading this, know that I and the rest of GFR will always have your back. The track does not discriminate based on race (heh) or gender, so why should we? Just keep doing what you love and loving what you do, not just racing but whatever else your heart desires. Don't worry about the haters - whoever is trying to bring you down is already below you.

NSSCRA 12 - VilBev Open Heats

Postby Vilita and Turori » Sun Apr 03, 2022 7:07 pm

NSSCRA 12 | Exhibition | VilBev Open Heats

Yutzie River Raceway, Vilisorma, Vilita :: In her first full season back in NSSCRA competition, it was if she had never left as Stacie Houston returned to the Lonngeylin Ring to mix things up with the best short track racers in the multiverse. Houston would put the #27 Five Star Mobile chadwick on Pole Position, her first ever pole at the circuit which she has performed so well at including a victory during NSSCRA Season 9. Houston's Pole Position would also elevate her from the VilBev Open Heats straight into the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash. With 16 drives already Qualified for the Clash, the experts did the calculations and decided it would be ok to expand the field to 20 cars, allowing for the two Open Heat winners to advance as well as the Top 2 from the Vilaye Roast Shootout - setting a record size field for the Clash. Of course, the favorite for the special event would be none other than the Tropicorp Racing Supply backed short track expert Yraaga Gilli'i. A Former Vilaye Clash winner, Gilli'i took the checkered flag in the Toys '4' All 500 at the Lonngeylin Ring breaking a run of three seasons without winning the keystone event at the Lonngeylin Ring. A classic battle remniscent of their famous clashes during NSSCRA Season 9 would ensue between Stacie Houston and Yraaga Gilli'i. While in Season 9 it was Houston who famously pulled a bump and run on Gilli'i to deny the #41 Tropicorp Racing Supply Dart a third straight Toys '4' All 500 victory, there would be no such action this time as Houston faded late in the event leaving only her significant other Jeremiah Brooke to challenge Gilli'i for the top spot. Brooke was unable to get close enough for a late move on Gilli'i who would storm off to collect Vilita and Turori Motorsports first victory of the season. Following the NSSCRA Multiversal Cup Series Toys '4' All 500 at the Lonngeylin Ring, the stars of the NSSCRA and AOCAR moved up the coast for the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash at the Yutzie River Raceway, a Vilitan Weekly Racing Series track in Vilisorma, Vilita; home of the Vilisorma Beverage Company. While the Lonngeylin Ring is slightly larger and higher banked than the Yutzie River Raceway, any setup information gained during the Toys '4' All 500 Race weekend will likely be a good starting point when teams arrive in Vilisorma. While seating will be limited at the quarter mile track, fans in attendance for the Toys '4' All 500 in Lonngeylin the night before will be welcome to return to the track the next day to watch the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash on the big screen. Those who do make the trek up the coast will be treated not only to the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash but a small docket of weekly racing events including the Classic VT Modified division and the Electric Stock division as well as the AOCAR Stock Car Series preparing for the following days feature race.

While there wasn't much time to catch up on sleep, the gates opened at a leisurely 10:00AM at the Yutzie River Raceway to allow some downtime following the previous evenings race. The event, which many were considering an All-Star Race of sorts, was being held once again in a traditional local raceway format with the entire event being contested in a single day with practice sessions in the morning followed by a hot lap qualifying session, a pair of heat races and then a feature event on Sunday evening. Yutzie River Raceway's regular weekly racing series events would also be taking place alongside the NSSCRA SuperStars with their practice, heat and feature events squeezing in between each of the NSSCRA events on the schedule. Track officials limited the NSSCRA Clash field to having no more than 20 cars on the track at a given time during the practice sessions so drivers were held at the track entrance on the outside of Turn 4 until another car yielded and came off the track during the first practice session. The second practice session was split with the Open Drivers hitting the track first before those already qualified for the Clash allowing all drivers on track at once.
Immediately following the Second Practice Session, the drivers entered in the VilBev Open Heats had two laps around the track to determine their starting position for the Heats as well as to determine which of the two heats they would run in.

A Total of 32 drivers had earned eligibility to participate in the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash Raceday activities with 16 pole winners gaining direct access to the feature event and a further 16 drivers including Race Winners, former VilBev Open Heat winners and top competitors from the Everlong Contender Series and AOCAR Stock Car Series invited to participate. It will be a packed track at the one-quarter mile Yutzie River Raceway and a mix of drivers with custom prepared cars and paint schemes just for this event including some drivers returning from retirement just to run the one-off event. Of special note, Vilita and Turori Motorsports gave permission for Meghan Sharpe to run her old #4 in a special one-off appearance for Gale Force Racing after their driver, Islago Tizilna, failed to earn eligibility for the event. With Tizilna backed by the event sponsor the Vilisorma Beverage Company and one of its suppliers, Inura Extracts, Tizilna's car will still be competing in the event having been rebranded with the #32 and the colors of the Abovian flag for AOCAR Stock Car Series driver Annike Jensen-Aakstern.

After a brief morning practice session, the drivers eligible for the VilBev open heats got their chance to vie for the all important front row starting positions in the heats through a single car two-lap qualifying run.

Some people would argue that having their home races in AOCAR this early into the season would be a good opportunity for the Oontaznik drivers of Nasser Nasri Motorsports, the Sultanate’s representatives in Atlantian Oceania’s premier stock car racing competition, to secure their places into the Chase early so they wouldn’t have to worry about it later on in the season. AOCAR had two races in the Sultanate scheduled, one in the southern island province of Lahtondan in Kota Nibabalu, and the other one in the Zama Superspeedway at one of the suburbs of Manitogoro, capital of the Sultanate of Oontaz. It was expected that the local drivers (which includes the part-time entries of Usman ibn Anwar Racing) would perform well at their two home tracks, especially considering that they run here all the time while driving for the Abanhfleft Racing Truck Series (ARTS).

The race at Kota Nibabalu was called the Mister Kendi 220 after a popular local brand of sweets. The NNM boys all managed to put their cars into the top 5, and local driver Benedicto Baluarte (“Benny” to pretty much everyone) almost set the stands ablaze with pride when he recorded the fastest lap in qualifying, only to be pipped to pole position by Tropicorp’s Anavella Ariiki. Hossem Nasri would surprise the local population by putting his Luxur on the second row instead of near the back of the field, as he had done on previous occasions while driving in ARTS, while his brother Yasir was the “worst” performing out of the NNM drivers (although recording the fifth fastest time on track was still an impressive feat nonetheless). In contrast, the Usman ibn Anwar team in their new Duisdorf cars floundered near the rear, a combination of Duisdorf’s vehicles still needing work and UiA’s drivers not being used to driving stock cars as opposed to the trucks that were their bread and butter in ARTS. Abid al-Qureishi, the surprise winner of the AOCAR edition of HRH The Sultan’s 400 last season, and Robinette Campaneros both just failed to break into the top 30; and Maicon Albuquerque was spared the blushes of being the slowest driver on track only by another Tropicorp driver in Jeszi Hotoniia setting an even slower time than he did.

Expectations were high that another Oontaznik driver would take the checkered flag at one of the country’s two tracks on the current AOCAR schedule, with the NNM boys looking the most likely to take the dub (as the people of Saint Kanye called wins or victories in racing). But Jama’obo Pegasii was a man on a mission. He was, as a certain purple man with multiple chins once said, inevitable. Pegasii blasted their way from the middle of the field right out to the front, blowing aside anyone and everyone who came in his way. No one seemed to be able to keep up with the Vilitan driver through the narrow and winding road course of Kota Nibabalu, and thus Pegasii finished the race with almost half a second between him and the next driver, Saint Kanye’s Jill Singletary. Both Yasir Nasri and Benny Baluarte would manage to keep themselves in the top four and give the local fans something to cheer about though, while Hossem Nasri brought the car home at a respectable eighth place.

After that, it was time to move on to the capital of the Sultanate of Oontaz, specifically the suburb of Zama where the Zama Superspeedway was located. Zama was the location for the HRH The Sultan’s 400, an AOCAR race sponsored by HRH Sultan Kudarat bin Hakeem himself. The race was regularly attended by either HRH The Sultan himself or by either one of Prince Farooq bin Kudarat or Princess Sarita bint Kudarat. That being said, HRH The Sultan and his four favorite children (Princess Sarita, Prince Farooq, Prince Bismillah, and Princess Rabiyyah) had all been in attendance when Abid al-Qureishi overcame all the odds and won the first running of HRH The Sultan’s 400 as an AOCAR race. This season, though Prince Bismillah would not be able to attend due to him focusing on his responsibilities as the owner of a NSSCRA Everlong Series team, his elder siblings Sarita and Farooq would be representing the Sultan and the royal family on race day.

Once again, Usman ibn Anwar Racing would be taking part in the HRH The Sultan’s 400, and once again they hoped to upstage their rivals from Nasser Nasri Motorsports. And in qualifying, they looked to have done exactly that after Robinette Campaneros took pole position over the likes of Anavella Ariiki and Hossem Nasri. Most of the other Oontaznik drivers on the grid for that race comfortably put themselves into the top 15, with Benny Baluarte being the only outlier among them; the Lahtondan Province native would start the HRH The Sultan’s 400 in a lowly 27th place.

The race itself eventually turned into a battle between the pole sitter Campaneros and Yasir Nasri. Both drivers knew how important a victory at this race was, and they both knew that victory would be made all the more sweeter because it was in front of their own countrymen and even the future Sultan himself, Farooq bin Kudarat. And both drivers knew how important this victory was to their respective teams, not only because it would lock them into the Chase (only in Nasri’s case though) but also because it meant that they had beaten the other team. Neither NNM nor UiA had made the rivalry between them a secret, and because of this, all 105,000 people in the stands watching the race was absolutely hooked by the battle between Campaneros and Nasri, and there were both official and unofficial bets as to who would crash first and who would cross the finish line first. Eventually, Yasir Nasri’s experience and racing pedigree won out, and he claimed his first ever victory at Zama Superspeedway since the year he won his ARTS championship in 2029. It looked to all the world (or the Atlantian Oceanian region at least) that the Oontazniks were on a true title charge.

And then the race in Kimi-Suomi brought the whole nation back to earth.

For all intents and purposes, it was a poor showing for the Oontazniks over in the Kimi Circuit. Their qualifying performance was poor; only Hossem Nasri was able to get into the top 20, while Yasir Nasri could only barely scrape into the top 30. The race went a little better for them, but only by a little bit as Hossem was the only NNM driver to finish in the top 15. Hossem literally finished in 15th place, while Yasir and Benny Baluarte could only finish in 25th and 26th respectively, which put a dent into Yasir’s title campaign. Things didn’t get much better for two-thirds of Nasri Motorsports when AOCAR moved to New Northwesteros and the Lannisburg Complex, regarded as the international equivalent of the Oxyrhynchus-Ring in that the track eats tires for breakfast. Yasir Nasri could only muster up the 29th fastest time at Lannisburg while Benny Baluarte was even slower. But for the other Nasri, the trip to New Northwesteros would become a cause for celebration as this was where Hossem would claim his first ever career pole position. To say that nobody, not even Hossem himself, expected that he would be on pole was an understatement, but he did it anyway. Sadly for him, he wouldn’t be able to make his first ever pole position count in the grand scheme of things as he got shuffled away from the lead of the race, and he would finish in 6th place. It was still a credible achievement for someone who had once been the laughingstock of the Fleftic truck racing scene, but there was no shortage of those who wished that he could have kept the fairytale going to the end. Alas, it was not to be.

As for Prince Bismillah's Everlong team, the kids were still doing exactly what he wanted them to do. Tawfiq Chouchane and Zac Policarpio were still doing a decent job of remaining competitive in this field. Neither of them were still anywhere near potentially fighting for a race win, but they were also nowhere near any trouble. Both Oontaznik drivers were yet to DNF, and the Prince wanted it to remain that way. With NSSCRA currently in the middle of its Atlantian Oceania swing, the Prince could afford to keep an eye on his team up close and personal, and he could also afford to scratch that speed itch once again while waiting for the second season of AOGP to begin. Bismillah Untas will be back in the #50 car for the Tropicorp Beach Course, where he will attempt to tame this half-paved and half-sandy superspeedway course.

NSSCRA 12 :: Vilaye Energy Drink Clash

Postby Vilita and Turori » Tue Apr 05, 2022 4:08 am

Image

Vilaye Energy Drink Clash, Yutzie River Raceway, Vilisorma, Vilita :: After the conclusion of the Vilisorma Beverage Company Open Heats, it was time for the Vilitan Weekly Racing Series feature events with two of the tracks normal 5 cards on the schedule, the Electric Stock division; the Classic VT Modified division. Due to the preparation for the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash and the addition of the AOCAR Stock Car Series to the calendar the regular Figure 8 weekly racing was unable to be held in conjunction with the race weekend. Prior to the Clash, however, it was time for the Electric Stock division to take center stage.

Once the support events concluded the fanfare began with Driver Introductions for the Vilaye Clash and the best twenty stock car drivers in the multiverse gave the fans a wave before heading to their cars now parked just in front of the main grandstands on the front straightaway. The Format of the Vilaye Energy Clash consisted of two 40 lap segments followed by a final 25 lap segment to determine the winner. Any laps run under the yellow flag would not count towards the total for that segment and green flag pit stops were not permitted as the entry to pit road on the outside of the course would only open during yellow flag periods. Pit stops were permitted between stages as the field was set based on the results of the prior stage(s) and track position could not be gained or lost on pit road. As the pit area is on the outside of the track, a gate must be opened/closed during yellow flag conditions to enable access to the pit road. Any driver whose repairs are extensive enough that they can not be completed before a yellow flag condition has ended is likely to be considered DNF. A driver with mechanical issues that do not result in a yellow flag can pull to the center of the track until the next yellow flag condition occurs.

The Starting Lineup for the first stage had been pre-determined based on the number of Vilaye Energy Drink Pole Awards a driver had won since the previous held Vilaye Clash with the two VilBev Open Heat Winners and the two lucky drivers advancing from the Vilaye Roast Shootout bringing up the rear of the field.

At the conclusion of Stage #1 up to 10 drivers would be inverted based on their finishing positions for the Start of Stage #2. However, the final stage starting order would be an average of a drivers finish in the first two stages so it was not strictly advantageous for a driver to try to hang back to get a better starting position for Stage #2. The number of drivers inverted at the end of Stage 1 would be half the field that finished the stage Rounded Down.

Despite starting with a record 20 cars for the Vilaye Clash Feature, the bump and run racing at the Yutzie River Raceway caused quite a few retirements. With no pit lane inside the track there is no opportunity for a car to repair damage and come back on the track just a lap or two down. Either its a quick flat tire change under yellow when laps don't count or you are likely done for the day as a record five drivers retired in Stage 2 including then race leader Taylor Henderson who was involved in an incident battling to defend the top spot, collecting other cars as her prone car bottled up the track at the exit of the turn. Based on Average finishes in the first two stages it would be stage 1 winner and defending Vilaye Clash Champion Yraaga Gilli'i on pole position for the 25 lap final segment with Kai Qiang and Stacie Houston just behind.

In the end, it was a three car battle from the start of the evening until the checkered flag and two of those three finished the night in the Top 2 Positions with the rest of the field just competing to be the best of the rest behind Alvarez, Suzgar and Gilli'i. Toys '4' All 500 race winner River 'Shark' Suzgar II was trying to make it wins on back-to-back nights leading the field to the green on the final segment but was punted up the track and out of the way. An incident on lap 21 of the final segment bunched the field back up after Thea Alvarez had pulled out to a lead and set up a side by side battle between Alvarez and Gilli'i for the race victory.

Jeremiah Brooke didn't get all too worked up about qualifying a mere 29th for the Toys 4 All 500, way behind both his teammates who were sharing the front row. After all, position shuffles at a short track are as common as bears in Hampton Island (miss that place) or potholes in Qzvarkian Qaz (not that place, though). Jeremiah showed the hustle and muscle he's known for throughout his six-season NSSCRA career, taking just twelve laps to reach the top fifteen and staying there for the rest of the day (not counting the times he spent in the pits, of course). He found himself fifth with ten laps remaining - a definite upgrade from how he started, but maybe he could gain a few more before the race ends? Fourth, third, second, maybe even first?

Maddie Alexander put up a good fight, but Jeremiah's experience won out, and he was able to overtake the youngster just fine. Chris Holmes tried his hardest to protect his spot, but again Jeremiah made a daring move to get past him. Now only two drivers remain in front of Gale Force Racing's unofficial team captain: local short track master Yraaga Gilli'i, and at his tail, Sherpa ace (and the series' latest controversial driver) Kai Qiang.

The last time #18 and #44 met outside of driver meetings, it didn't end well as Qiang interrupted Lam Chow-Cheung's visit to the GFR garage by snatching the non-binary Jag racer's mask off their face. Those who were aware of the story remember Jeremiah and his teammates throwing Qiang out of the garage for his brazen act, but what actually happened is slightly different: while the GFR trio had wanted to do that at the time, the arrival of Qiang's crew chief caused him to leave of his own accord, saving them the trouble. Right now Jeremiah is still somewhat ticked off at Qiang's behavior last week, though never at the man himself. But the incident with Lam was not at all why, when the gap between the two closed, they raced each other as hard as they could during the last few laps. It was purely a racing deal, and a win is on the line.

As sparks flew between Jeremiah's Chadwick and Qiang's TMW, the difference in the two Cup Series stars' personalities was evident. The latter went on his usual routine of spouting obscenities in different languages, whereas the former processed everything with a cool head. However, as the shoving match between the two raged on, Yraaga was doing a good job in protecting the lead, eventually taking the dub in front of his home crowd. Jeremiah and Qiang would fill the other two positions in the podium, with the Yeezie nosing out his Pharaki rival by the tiniest of margins, 0.001 second to be exact.

Image

"Not exactly a win like I was hoping for, but it sure felt like it was," Jeremiah told reporters. "Always love me a tough battle in the end, especially when I get things done against the other driver. Maybe a few laps more, and I think I could have gotten to YG as well, this #18 Vylet Chadwick ran well and the crew did an awesome job preparing it for this race. Anyway, there's still five races until the Chase, and six vacant spots. That's still a lot of chances for me to make it in, and I sure wouldn't mind getting it with a battle like this." He congratulated Yraaga and gave Qiang a slight nod. He didn't want to speak with him just yet, let alone ruffle his hair.

It wasn't exactly the best of days for Stacie Houston. Partly because her short track rival had just beaten her husband, and partly because her own performance at the 500 was rather underwhelming. Stacie took the pole for the race, but was unable to capitalize on it, getting lost in the shuffle at the start and falling into the low tens. And then, not even past the midway point, she got sent into the wall by a backmarker who was none too pleased at being lapped. This caused some damage to the bodywork of Stacie's car, as well as screwed up its handling. She pulled up to her box to get it fixed, and while she was able to get back into the race, she would mostly remain midpack while under green, only ending up 15th due to a late charge in the end.

Image

"Decent finish, yeah, but given how I started, 'decent' doesn't cut it," Stacie said during the presser. "I love this track. I've tamed it before. But it seemed today, it didn't love me back," she joked, prompting a few reporters to laugh. "Hopefully tomorrow's Clash will be a lot kinder to me. Not a points race, but still, the glory of winning is there. And the cash prize! But I won't be trying to win it for myself. My Clash prize money, however much it would be, will be donated to the Stacie Houston Foundation."

Thea Alvarez likewise had a disappointment of a race, starting on Stacie's outside but finishing only 18th. "Hopefully this is just an effect of a short track's erratic nature, and not the start of another slump," she said. She's been there and done that, and it wasn't pretty. Thea smiled as she thought of all her friends in the garage and throughout the field whose support and kind words enabled her to keep on fighting.... but then frowned when she remembered something. If not for her dip in form in the previous weeks, she wouldn't have that meltdown, and Lam wouldn't have gone to the GFR garage to try to cheer her up with sweets, and Qiang wouldn't have taken their mask off, prompting the latest bit of drama to affect the series. "It was all my fault," she said to herself. A reporter noticed her tearing up and asked if anything was wrong.

"No, just some sand that came into my eye," Thea said. She didn't know if the reporter was convinced, but if she was him, she wouldn't be. Especially since they wouldn't be visiting sandy Tropicoast until next week.

It was the second time this season that the media had caught Thea Alvarez crying. She had been inconsistent on the track too. The #44 crew were starting to wonder if something was wrong. Maybe a serious illness in the family? Some kind of personal conflict at home? Mental health struggles?

"Is she, like, okay?" Houzhi Chang asked.

Qiang shrugged.

"It seems like something is wrong."

"Yeah," Qiang agreed. "She's been taking it hard when she has a bad race."

They talked a little more, and Qiang decided that when they got to Tropicoast he would ask Thea if she was okay or if there was something bothering her. It never crossed his mind that she might be upset about anything he did.

Well, he knew she was upset about the thing with Lam, but it never crossed his mind that she might be crying about that. He assumed there must be something more serious...

This blog was written by Derrick Carlisle, Jaguar Racing's Social Media Manager

I told you all I would be back after all proceedings ended this weekend...and here I am. We certainly have a bit to go through in this blog, both from the NSSCRA race and from the events on Sunday and even some stuff from beyond, so I guess there is no time to waste isn't there?

Let's start with sorting out all loose ends with the Toys '4' All 500 as Saturday Night Fever hit the Lonngeylin Ring in a big way. Michael Stefan (@Stefan07) recovered from 25th to end up in 9th, Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) ended up falling from 12th to 19th and Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) ended up worst off as he fell from 7th on Friday to 30th on Saturday. The history of racing at the Ring dictates that only locals or Yeezies win races round and today, Yraaga Gilli’i continued that trend with victory over Jeremiah Brooke and Kai Qiang...something that has turned into a bit of a duel of the past fortnight for reasons we will discuss soon. Aurélia Karvonen actually ended up as the best HM in 24th while Lam Chow-Cheung's spectacular P11 on Friday was converted to 27th in a race that saw 7 DNFs - including Wilma von Cärinthen. Thea Alvarez ended up 18th, which wasn't too bad, but was caught by someone a bit...emotional. I don't know, but something tells me that wasn't entirely due to her performance that day...I hope she's doing ok.

The plight of LCC has certainly been something to watch over the course of their debut, but the rumours that circulated around that Saturday in Brisbane have certainly captured a lot of people's interest. As the focus shifted towards Vilisorma, the entire NSSCRA world got thrown a statement by LCC on their twii.tur, @LCC38, that finally told us all how they were doing, what happened from their perspective and how they felt about it all. It was a long read, and I mean a LONG read, but it certainly was an eye-opener on everything going on in the world of LCC. They felt crushed after what happened but felt as though their story had to come out...and what a story it was. I knew that wearing that mask wasn't a stylistic choice...but I wasn't expecting exactly what caused the mask to exist. Lam, you've been through a lot...and I commend you for coming forward and telling us about yourself. You well and truly belong here in this sport and I hope that, no matter what you decide to wear, you feel welcome by every single one of us.

As we digested that, the Vilaye Clash was finally back at the Yutzie River Raceway and JR's T1 gang would all have...interesting days north of the Ring. Maddy started 7th but wouldn't make it through the first Stage, Micky started 6th and would end the Final Stage in 9th and Mercado had the busiest day of all - winning VilBev Open Heat #1 to even qualify in 17th before ending up the best JR in 7th. Stacie Houston would end up winning the event over Yraaga Gilli'i and Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal with only 12 cars making it to that 3rd Stage.

And that's finally that from this weekend...onto the next one, this time over in Tropicorp and the now traditional final weekend before ours: Tropicoast! See y'all then!

Tropicorp 500 :: Race Preview

NSSCRA 12 | Round 12 Preview: Tropicoast Beach Course

Tropicorp 500, Tropicoast Beach Course, Tropicoast, Tropicorp

Tropicoast Beach Course :: Information

About the Track:
Image

Track Location: Tropicoast, Tropicorp, Atlantian Oceania
Track Record: 107.561s ( Anavella Ariiki, NSSCRA 8 )
Track Lap Length: 4.1 Mile

Image Image

Image Image

The race begins on the Tropicorp Motorway; an access road that runs along the coast connecting different primary areas of the Tropicorp campus, Tropicoast itself and nearby facilities. While it is typically considered a two lane road and racing will be tight on the paved main straightway when compared with the compacted sand on the back straightaway, drivers should be able to fit three-across without having to dip their wheels into the sand. Not too far down the road past the start finish line is the original Tropicorp headquarters building which now serves as the Tropicorp visitor center. The iconic Tropicorp sign surrounded by Palm Trees can still be seen and will provide an excellent photo backdrop particularly for the Team Tropicorp cars. The Tropicorp Visitor Center will also serve as the site of the Tropicorp Pit Crew Competition taking place prior to the Tropicorp 500.

Image Image

After passing the Tropicorp Visitor Center the road will begin to bend into an elbow as drivers will begin setting themselves up for the big curve and the transition off the paved surface. There is still plenty of room to pass after the elbow, however as drivers scream down one of the longest paved straightaways in motorsports. As drivers approach the Dart billboard they will begin to see the big curve climbing into the sky in the distance and will need to begin preparing themselves for braking to set up for the difficult transition from the paved surface to the compacted sand.

Image Image

As drivers prepare to make the big left hand curve off the paved surface, any drivers who brake too late or have an issue with their cars will have two options. Drivers may opt to continue straight down the paved road through the lightweight swing signs marking the end of the racing surface if they have an issue with their car and are not planning to continue in the race. Otherwise, drivers who miss the entry to the corner should still be able to make the turn and scrub speed as they climb the banking with the brakes applied. Some drivers may choose to climb the banking purposely to carry additional speed both into and out of the large turn installed by the Tropicorp locals both as a safety measure to allow cars to scrub speed off after flying down the nearly two-mile long paved straightaway.

Image Image

While drivers will have been mostly constrained to a 2-3 lane wide paved surface on the front straightaway in order to maintain maximum grip and speed, once they exit from the big curve they will open up into a wide open straight of compacted sand that will allow half the field to spread out and battle side by side if need be. The compacted sand is of slightly different color than the un altered natural beach sand and drivers will know the difference if they stray too close to the water line, though there is plenty of room for error on the racing surface before a driver would be in danger of going off into the unprepared surface. The inside of the course opens up to allow a pitlane before the tight, flat curve at the start/finish end of the course.

Image Image

Unlike the big curve at the other end of the course, drivers will not be able to carry a lot of speed into the flat curve and anyone that does may find themselves into the orange guard rail fencing and out of the event. By far the slowest part of the course, the flat curve will allow fans in the grandstands an opportunity to see all the cars and take nice pictures with the large Tropicorp billboards in the background at the center of curvature. As drivers exit the curve it will be a race to regain traction on the paved surface - taking a wider exit may allow contact patch with the pavement sooner but will increase distance traveled and may result in a slick paved surface due to kick back from the compacted sand. Taking a tighter exit to the turn may result in slower entry speed but a cleaner more natural transition back to the paved surface for the spring back to the finish line just meters ahead.

Image

Fan Access:

Fans will watch the race from the large Main Grandstand at the flat curve and a series of smaller grandstands along the front straightaway on either side of the Start/Finish line. There will be 'Campground' style access in the center of the course however there is no entry/exit from the center of the course when the race is under green flag conditions. There will be an employee-only viewing party at the Tropicorp Visitors Center while fans will also be able to utilize grandstands along the front straightaway at the transition to the Big Curve.

FanZone Information
Pit Crew Challenge :: Tropicorp Racing Supply will host their 'Pit Crew Challenge" outside the flat curve where fans will be able to test their ability to change an NSSCRA tyre or act as the fuel person so long as they first sign a release form indemnifying Tropicorp of any injury that may occur as they attempt to set the fast times in the challenge. Participants may also enter Tropicorp's Pit Crew Challenge Promotion on Practice and Qualifying Day where the fastest competitors could get invited to pit the #42 Tropicorp Racing Supply Dart of Euroli Islander during the Tropicorp NSSCRA Pit Crew Competition.

Cocoabo Zone & "Meet the Techie" Exhibit :: The Cocoabo Preservation Society will be on hand with a special Cocoabo Zone in the area outside the front straightaway past the Start-Finish line where trained Cocoabo will be on hand demonstrating some of their skills. Cocoabo Enrichment and Enhancement Project trainers will be on hand with their Cocoabo to discuss some of their training methods.

Cocoa-bo :: Delectable company Cocoa-bo will be on hand with a 'spin the wheel' and sample tent where fans can sample some Cocoa-bo product as well as purchase items for sale. Fans can also line up to spin the wheel for prizes including spinners, sunglasses and magnets with the Cocoa-bo logo on them.

twii.tur :: twii.tur will have 3 locations around the speedway where fans can have their picture taken and instantly delivered via twii.tur from inside the stock cars of Cocoabo #28 or the special #98 @CocoaboPark Dart that Jixaka Motorai drives in the Everlong Contenders Series as well as the World Grand Prix Championship car driven by TJUN-ia's Lane Carter during the recently completed World Grand Prix Championship season.

Toys '4' All, Visit TI, Arcticala Electrical, the Dart Group and Vilaye Energy Drink are among other entities also expected to participate in the fanzone with information kiosks or small sales tables as well as a selection of foreign entities including Five Star Mobile of Cassadaigua who will likely have a large display featuring their products and activities in support of the Five Star Combo.

Tropicorp Racing Supply 250 / Tropicorp Sifaka 300K

It will be a busy week of action at the Tropicoast Beach Course where the Tropicorp track will host the first ever triple-header weekend with the Everlong Contenders Series getting an early start on Saturday followed by the AOCAR Stock Car Series in a double header day of racing action. It will be the second time at the track for both the Everlong Contenders Series and AOCAR Stock Car Series. The first Everlong Contenders Series event at the Tropicoast Beach Course was the Tropicorp Sifaka 300K during NSSCRA Season 10. That race was won by Team Cassadaigua's #27 Maddie Alexander. After the merger of Team Cassadaigua and Team Tropicorp, Alexander is now a Team Tropicorp driver in the Multiversal Cup Series and will be looking to leverage her positive record at the track to gain her first ever Multiversal Cup Series checkered flag. The Tropicoast Beach Course was left off the Everlong Contenders Series schedule during NSSCRA Season 11 being replaced by the inaugural AOCAR Stock Car Series race which took over the Tropicorp Sifaka 300K Moniker. With both events running the same weekend this season, the AOCAR Stock Car Series race will retain the Tropicorp Sifaka 300K naming while the Everlong Contenders Series Race will be the Tropicorp Racing Supply 250 - a longer race with a smaller number in its title.
Image

Team Tropicorp was widely rumored to be entering a car for current Everlong Contenders Series point leader Jixaka Motorai in the Tropicorp 500 along with the Open Charter entry for Cocoabo #28 for Team Tropicorp, however the team has considered withdrawing Motorai from the entry list to focus on her continued charge in the NSSCRA's second tier. It is also believed that the potential entry of Bismillah Untas could effect whether Motorai attempted to qualify for the Tropicorp 500, as influenced on the need to qualify on time or not for the event.

The Tropicorp 500 is also the second Five Star Combo race of the season and first since the Season opening Tundra Falls 500. The Five drivers eligible for the Five Star Bonus are Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal of the Sherpa Empire, Sage Caldwell of Direwolf Racing, Michael Stefan of Jaguar Racing, Wilma von Cärinthen of UrGa Motorsports and the Valentian driver Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton.

SUPER SKYCHIEF 500 FEATURES A $26 MILLION PURSE, EXCLUDING TWO $5 MILLION ‘SUPER BONUSES’
By Doug Goodman, the Hapilopper Television Network
Image

HAPILOPPER CITY – It is possible for one driver to leave Hapilopper City with almost $12 million in cash and prizes for winning the Super Skychief 500.

The Hapilopper National Exhibition released the breakdown of the purse for this year’s Super Skychief 500, a race that could potentially have the biggest single payout for a single driver in the history of international motor racing.

At a minimum, the winner of the race will take home $5.5 million. That’s just the base prize, excluding any race day awards, including the Preston Super Skychief Mk.II pace car, a possible large bonus for being the top-placed driver from Atlantian Oceania, Esportiva, Rushmore, Sonnel or the Melayu Archipelago, and a quarter-million dollar prize from the federal government, including a replica of the Exhibition Cup.

In fact, the race winner won’t be the only one taking home at least a seven-figure check. Increases in the purse have guaranteed that each of the top five finishers will take home at least one million dollars for their work.

Rod Hargrove, executive director of the Hapilopper National Exhibition, spoke of the importance of the large purse for the race.

“We want this race to be the richest race in international motorsports,” Hargrove said. “This is the most important date on the Hapiloppian sporting calendar, and the most important race on the NSSCRA calendar. We want it to pay what it’s worth.”

While that $26 million purse has turned a few heads, what is on everyone’s mind within HapEx are the two $5 million “Super Bonuses” that are being offered.

The first of these awards is one for those using the NSSCRA Open Charter, two spots in each NSSCRA race guaranteed to anyone that requests it. This award, from the member companies of the Hapilopper City Chamber of Commerce, would award $5 million to an Open Charter user that wins the Super Skychief 500.

Ashley Perkins, head of the Hapilopper City Chamber of Commerce, said the award is about trying to get “the absolute best of the best, from where ever they may come, to try to take the big one.”

“We want the best and the boldest to come to Hapilopper City and take on the 500,” Perkins said. “It doesn’t matter if they run NSSCRA, or the WGPC, or HASCAR or even a series like IRACT. We want the world’s best and we want them to chase after the biggest prize of them all.”

Mel’s Ultra-Mart, meanwhile, has offered the other $5 million “Super Bonus”, the Mel’s Triple Crown, a bonus to one driver should they win all three major races in Hapilopper City during their time at the Hapilopper National Exhibition – the Berman Bros. Classic Dominion Outlaw Series late model race, the Sharpe’s Battleship 250 NSSCRA race on the dirt half-mile and the Super Skychief 500.

That award, of course, comes on top of a $250,000 prize from the Berman Bros. Auto Dealers of Hapilopper City, should a driver win both the $200,000-to-win Berman Bros. Classic and the Super Skychief 500.

With an estimated 350 drivers entering this year’s Berman Bros. Classic, such an award might be much easier said than done.

THEY CRASH, YOU WIN! TO MAKE A COMEBACK
By Doug Goodman, the Hapilopper Television Network

HAPILOPPER CITY – One driver’s misfortune could be the fortune for one lucky fan on Super Skychief 500 race day.

The Hapilopper Television Network has announced that “They Crash, You Win!”, a sweepstakes controversial among drivers, but popular among fans, will make a comeback for this year’s race.

The award went unclaimed last year, but two years ago, Jeanie Morris, a 57-year-old school bus driver from the Pinkerton area, won the award after Rinzi Zakhilwal hit the bullseye on the backstraight, netting her a cool million dollars.

This year, fans across Hapilopper can visit haptv.co.hp to sign up for the sweepstakes. All they have to do is pick the driver they think will hit the bullseye on the inside wall on the backstraight just past turn two.

“This is our most exciting contest,” said Shannon Tanwell of the Hapilopper Television Network. “Each week, millions of fans from across Hapilopper and Wreckeria tune in to watch Speed Sundays, our package of NSSCRA and HASCAR racing, and millions of fans have entered our contest to see who will crash out first. We’re excited to bring it back.”

If a driver hits that bullseye like Zakhilwal did and climbs out of the car under their own power, or if they drive the car back to the pits, the Hapilopper Television Network will conduct a drawing to determine the winner.

No award will be given if a driver is injured or worse as a result of the accident, and a crash that is determined to have been caused by fan interference will not count as part of the contest. The crash must take place during the Super Skychief 500 race session, and must happen during green flag conditions.

Further, an accident that is intentionally caused will also not count.

Other news from Hapilopper City:

Hapilopper National Exhibition Program to be released next week: Out on newsstands next week is the official program for the auto racing portion of the Hapilopper National Exhibition. This 600-page publication features biographies of every single driver competing in the NSSCRA, HASCAR, AOCAR and Dominion Outlaw Series events during the exhibition, as well as features on what to expect during the exhibition, the 154th annual, which this year is operating on the theme of “Better Together,” celebrating the recent merger between Wreckeria and Hapilopper.

HASCAR Radio Network to expand to NSSCRA?: The Preston Autos HASCAR Radio Network announced its crew for the Super Skychief 500. Greg Huddleston, the long-time chief announcer of the HASCAR Radio Network will continue his role for the Super Skychief 500, and will be joined by driver expert Chet Byrd. He will be joined by turn announcers Martin Sutton (Turns 1-2) and Pete Cross (Turns 3-4), as well as pit reporters Chase Johnson, Gerald Hope, Mark Lewis and Stephanie Miller. Huddleston has said that the radio network, which will beam to 120 million listeners across Hapilopper and Wreckeria and countless others across the multiverse, is interested in a similar radio network for the NSSCRA Multiversal Cup Series.

HTN reports commercial slots sold out: The Hapilopper Television Network, which will air the Super Skychief 500 live on race day, has reported that each of its 30-second commercial slots, at a price of $4.5 million per 30-second ad, have sold out for the entire six-hour timeslot given to the race. While HTN declined to state how much that meant, they did state that the total commercial revenue for the race will be in the “nine figures.”

Race Days in the Super Pit sold out: “Race Days in the Super Pit,” a two-day electronic dance music festival behind the backstraight of the Hapilopper City Raceway, has sold out of their general admission tickets as well as VIP tickets, meaning an estimated 50,000 people will also be on the HapEx grounds, near the track for the festival for both days, held the day before and the day of the Super Skychief 500. Headliners include Church Mouse, Ashley and Her Friends, Fat Dude and Holy Shit Derecho.

OOC: Just providing few updates on Ilya Tsunopin's side of things. Sorry for delays.

PITCHER MEETS DRIVER (PMD)
By: BeardedPoleDancer
Description: Kai Qiang is a man of many things. Armed with the haunts and the memories of the past, the lanky babe has many sides that come with his multiple personalities, dozens of kinks and hundreds of stories to tell. And one of them involves a saga with legendary Sherpaland pitcher by the name of Kami Akunjee, who seems to be the very opposite of Qiang in many things, but share many traits and habits with the driver. Already married but madly attracted to each other like Romeo and Juliet, Qiang and Akunjee find themselves spiraling into 1093 days of endless love...

This is a Qiang/Akunjee story so as always, please read and review. Feel free to let me know what I could add more into the stories! Thanks.

Concluding Moments of UWU's NSCF Season Opener

'Alright, here comes Matt Ingberg, the sophomore. He lines up for the field goal from 32 yards out. Snap is good, here comes the kick, sails through, for the win..... and IN! INGBERG'S KICK IS IN! The Red Pandas knock off the Cyclones 43-40, and it's the first ever NSCF win for the UWU and the country of St. Kanye! Welcome to the NSCF, Red Pandas!'

'YAHOO!' was all Ilya and his friends, Swell and Curtis Kirby, shouted as the match came to an end. The firecrackers went out and all over the sky, and the fans were rushing into the field in celebration of the UWU Red Pandas' first ever NSCF victory. Thousands of Saint Kanyeans and foreigners, who had long awaited for the rise of the Yeezie Magic to be put together, were gathered around the centre of the field, all so excited to show their enthusiasm and just having a good time.

'WE GO! WE GO! WE GO! WE GO!' Curtis and Swell shouted as they grabbed each other's arms and swirled in twirls. For Ilya and his friends, this was a good weekend for them to take some heat off the pressures of their schedules. Curtis and Swell had just finished presenting their winter term courses, and now with exams over a week away, they needed a weekend off.

'YES!' Ilya shouted, as he quickly brought a pommel horse for Curtis and Swell to try their choreographed routines. Wearing a pair of sunglasses, a cowboy hat and cowboy boots with his moustached levelled up like a porn stash, it was clear he was ready to have fun during his week off while his Gale Force Racing teammates had fun in the unpredictable racecourses of Sword Island. He had some business to do with PlayToy, where their first week of businesses had been going well. The inaugural issue of PlayToy, which had featured a series of fanfics and the marvels of fantasy-inspired video games (with the term fantasy varying in terms of interests), went out like a series of wildfire, and while Ilya's remained uncertain on whether PlayToy could survive and maintain their success in what is becoming an increasingly-competitive world of journalism, his mind remained uplifting and exciting. 'Let's do this guys!'

'YEAH BABY!' was immediately said by Curtis and Swell, as the trio quickly rushed to the centre. 'Let's do the routine!' Once they had found the midfield, right around the centre of the camera's attention, the duo got themselves up and running and launched themselves into a 90-second routine. Wearing pink hot pants and red, furry boots, their limbs shook back and forth in mathematically-attractive parabolas as the marching bands played, players, their family and friends celebrated the win in embraces, and then the camera broadcasted the sight.

On http://www.drawkfiction.drk the very next morning, Ilya Tsunopin pressed 'Submit' button of his latest fanfiction series. Drunk, well-partied and tired, Ilya somehow couldn't exactly grasp the feeling of excitement that he had expected to come when publishing the first chapter of this work. This is weird, he thought to himself, as he waited for a solid minute after pressing the button. Am I missing something? He thought twice, not realising just yet that the person he had wished to be with that morning were on the other side of the world...

The 18th century was a different time, not only for humans, but also in the microbial world. Smallpox and measles ran wild, but flu was not the widespread nuisance it is today and Wuchang coronavirus was unheard of.

Vaccination was a theoretical concept rattling around in Edward Jenner's head, but it did not exist as a routine medical procedure, and Andre Massena was certainly not volunteering as a test subject for some English guy's medical experiments.

Point is, Massena had not been vaccinated against or exposed to any of the diseases that emerged in the 19th or 20th century, and he got a hospital-acquired infection. He was still not completely recovered from his injuries from the crash in Lonngeylin, and being sick on top of that meant he was in no condition to race. He was running a high fever, and the nurses were not sure if his strange behavior was due to being 18th century French or if he was delirious. He was a difficult patient -- cranky and demanding -- so they were eager to send him on his way, but they had a duty of care and they could not send him packing until they were convinced his condition was stable.

Massena used a TV in his hospital room to watch the Toys '4' All 500 -- including the crash that had put him there in the first place. He wanted to see what he'd done wrong, and what he'd missed after he crashed out. Occasionally during the more monotonous stretches of the race, his mind wandered and he tried to figure out how the TV worked. How were the colors on the screen made? They weren't paint... He couldn't figure it out.

When he was done with the race, he tried watching "Waterloo." Qiang had recommended it to Lannes and Lannes had passed the recommendation on. He wasn't quite sure how to feel about it. It was a lot more realistic than anything you could do on stage, but it wasn't the same as actually being there on the battlefield, and of course the ending was terrible. Who wrote that crap? It had to be some kind of English propaganda!

The Valentians – Race 11 – Multiversal: Toys '4' All 500, Lonngeylin Ring, Lonngeylin, Vilita (Short Track); Everlong: Racing Collectors 300, Lonngeylin Ring, Lonngeylin, Vilita (Short Track)

For both the Valentians and other around them, a lot of things have definitely happened. Some good, some are a little awkward, some are neutral, and some of them amounting to "Ehh, I'm not very sure if that was a good idea all around." It was AOCAR at first, whereby Annabelle Grace Melanie Ioannes Corinna and Adrian Deston Kostyantyn Volodymyrovych managed to get a 15th and 21st for themselves, even with the latter getting lapped twice by the lead cars. All in all, considering that this was a short track and that a whopping 10 cars have DNFed on top of #90 getting lapped 91 times, the two Valentians got off rather easy. With that done, and after the Pole Award Day that the Valentians celebrated a bit with a small bit of fervour, it was time for Everlong qualifications and the race. This, of course, happened to be one of the good news for the Valentians, with Marcus Alan Ariel Reynolds (#77) at 2nd and Valkyrie Valentijn Samantha Constantine (#10) at 10th for qualifications. The two friends made it through after the rather emotional exchange that was had the last race, not just for the qualifications but for the actual race later in the day. This time, however, it would be Marcus who managed to be the better of the two, with Valentijn actively encouraging him and doing her best to make sure that her best friend did not lose out this time. As it was a short track, there was little to no worry about the high speeds that might put an end to the races. Instead, it was the sheer crowd of cars and what seemed rather close to a demolition derby. With the help of one another while also battling against the seas of cars, there was no problem with Valentijn bumping Marcus whenever she could. The latter would have done the same, but for the most parts, he was comfortably a few places ahead of Valentijn in here.

And just like that, Marcus got a rather close finish to the podium at a 4th, with Valentijn at 11th. Both of them lost a few positions from their qualifications, but at the end of the day, Valentijn was simply happy for her friend, giving him yet another handshake followed by a brotherly hug as the two then went out for early dinner at their usual hangout. "Oh, man, I didn't think I would go this far this time," Marcus remarked with quite a lot of confidence and joy in his voice, "I mean sure, the quails helped but, you know. It was amazing." Valentijn nodded in return, patting him on the back, "I know you will make it eventually, hah! And hey, don't worry, there's more to come later as always!" As the two walked to the nearby dining place, it was then time for the Multiversal Valentians to continue their practice on the simulations, with both the qualifications and the race coming in the next day. The qualifications, on the Main Valentian team's side, was rather decent – Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha placed 5th, Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton placed 8th, and Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye placed 14th. All of these are important placements which would help later for the race, especially due to the nature of the short track courses that made overtaking difficult. The Gardeners were no sloths either, with Holly Aurora Lapia Starlight right behind Anastasia and Anna Star Joy Thanda Pwint Thinzar Nwe at 22nd, making her the best-qualifying open-charter driver for Vilita. Jolyn Maxine Caulfield Ceeta was unfortunate to start off at 40th, but even that was not going to stop her, as the race later would destine.

In fact, one could say that the tables have turned for the Valentians and the Gardeners. Come the end of the Short Track race, after going through several laps in a very small circle, Gwen managed to top the rest of the Valentians at a 7th position, which was something that surprised quite a handful (including herself) considering that she is not the best at Short Tracks. This was followed by none other than Holly and Jolyn from Garden at 6th Mile Road at 10th and 12th respectively, followed by Anna at 21st, in what was seen as the aforementioned turn of the tables, as well as the first time whereby all the three Gardeners managed to best two of the Valentians on the main team. Of course, celebrations were still had at the end of the day, with Clarissa and Anastasia taking their finishes (of 28th and 32nd) in stride, and congratulating the Gardeners for all of their efforts, with Jolyn giving a positive remark.

Then came the Vilaye Energy Drink Clash at Yutzie River Raceway. The Valentians were not exactly the ones to talk as much about this event, perhaps seeing it as just a bit of a side distraction in order to give them a bit more of the practice that they need during the season. It was not out of disrespect to anyone, but simply because they saw this event as a bonus round to the Short Track race. Only the three main Valentians were able to sign up for this event, which gave the Everlong drivers and the Gardeners some time off on their own either to go around for a bit of R&R or to watch the event either physically or via television. As for the Mainteam Valentians, they gave their best wishes to each other as they pushed their cars – the very same ones that they used for Multiversal – did a bit of modifications with the help of their crew, and was soon on their way. During stages, a couple of noteworthy events have happened. It started off with Clarissa leading the way on the 30th lap of the first stage, followed by the stage results of Clarissa on 3rd, Gwen on 7th, and Anastasia on 9th. Then the unthinkable happened at the second stage, whereby Gwen and Clarissa DNFed, being unable to catch up after the overturns that caused them to slow down significantly, resulting in them losing in the blink of an eye (at least, in the relativistic sense). "Ohh jeez, these guys," Gwen trailed off, her surprise well-intentioned, "I remember how difficult to get into this event was. Narrow time windows, and the best drivers around." With the overturns and slow laps, Gwen and Clarissa left the track along with the few others, joining the ranks of Jeremiah Brooke, Taylor Henderson, and Sage Caldwell. After pushing her car into the garage, Clarissa jogged off and visited Sage's garage (or lounge) in order to check up on him, to see how he was doing. "Hey there, Sage!" she would say with a cheerful tone, "Good race today nonetheless, you did pretty well out there! I'm so sorry about what happened though. Are you all right?" Gwen would then go on to check on Taylor, to whom she wasn't exactly very close with due to the simple lack of interaction, but perhaps this just might be it. "Hey-ya! Taylor, I'm sorry to hear about today! Do take care of yourself, and don't take it too hard!" Easier said than done, Gwen thought to herself, but it was also the best that she could do for the time being. Clarissa and Gwen would try their best to talk to Sage and Taylor at that moment for a while before going to Anastasia.

As for Anastasia, placing 5th wasn't exactly the worst of problems for the start-up, and neither was placing 8th at the end of the Final Stage results after 25 more laps around the road course. Stacie won for this time, with Yraaga at second and then Rinzi at 3rd. Anastasia walked towards the podium to congratulate the three, perhaps taking a bit of effort in order to wade through the crowds of fans and reporters that were going crazy and were trying their best to get their latest scoop. Going back to Anastasia, it was not so much about her not winning anything from this short race; after all, she has neither invested too much in it, nor were there a lot of stakes getting involved that depended on her. To her, however, it would have been something of an annoyance. Giving a sharp "Tsh!" to the rest of the people around, with Clarissa and Gwen joining back in, she simply could not believe the score result sheet. "Oh, dear. I thought they fixed this a long while back! I mean, the main events already know! And yet, here it is, look at this! Valentina Freya Yadana Aye. I mean sure, Valentine is still my name, and I love that name! But like hey, I'm Anastasia now!" She paused for a while as Clarissa and Gwen shrugged, the former holding a toy car that she just recently bought from a stand. Anastasia continued with her remark, with a bit of a smile coming back, "Ah well, at least it's just a name. I mean, you know it ain't too bad when all you had to complain was about the name. So I suppose that was something that I am very thankful for!" Anastasia's words resonated with the other two. After all, it's better to rant a bit about a name than getting involved in drama on regular basis. They're not stranger to drama, that much is true. It was just them not giving much of an attention to it. Recently, however, it might be a bit different.

Somehow the reporters had bought Thea Alvarez's excuse that she got sand in her eye during the press conference at the end of the Toys 4 All 500. She wiped what tears she had and fought back any more that tried to come, and thus no one knew that she was still feeling some sort of guilt for being the reason Kai Qiang had a chance to unmask Lam Chow-Cheung. After the presser, Thea went back to her hotel room and spent most of the rest of the day just lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling and occasionally the window while being deep in thought. She thought back to her first meeting with Maddison Riley-Jones two seasons ago, as well as the time she wrote a letter to Lam at the start of this season. How come she finds it easy to tell others to cope with whatever life is throwing at them, while she herself is struggling to do so?

Thea's performance at the Vilaye Clash didn't exactly help to boost her morale. In qualifying, she was the slowest of sixteen open heat participants. In her own heat, she managed to make her way to the front and lead several laps, only to end up bowing out with engine problems. In the shootout, she finished third, but since only the top two get to advance, would end up missing the main event entirely. "Sorry Hana...." she said as she dejectedly climbed out of her car, which was sporting a throwback paint scheme to one her Filindo friend had run several seasons ago.

Ilya Tsunopin seemed to have taken Sage Caldwell's advice to stay away from Qiang until the situation with Lam blows over, because instead of hovering around the Sherpalander's camp (he was part of the main Clash already), he mainly stayed with the members of Thea's crew. "Hey, it's alright," Ilya said upon seeing his teammate, putting an arm around her.

"I hope so...." was Thea's reply.

"Want some fries? Wings?" Ilya offered Thea the contents of the bucket he had, which he bought from a nearby We'll Fry It booth.

"Thanks, but no thanks, I'm not hungry."

"So what are you planning to do now?"

"I don't know.... don't feel like watching the main race.... maybe I'll just go back to my hotel room and read or listen to music..."

"Wanna go bowl? We better be practicing for Jungle Fever, that's just a couple weeks away from now. Come on, I'll teach you."

Thea figured that spending time with her team's R&D driver was way more preferable to sulking in solitude.

"Sure, why not? What are we gonna use, coconuts?" Coconut bowling was indeed a thing in Vilita, leading some to believe that River Suzgar and his fellow local racers would have an edge in the bowling competition the Jags had cooked up for their annual post-race afterparty.

Jeremiah Brooke had an excellent performance at the 500, turning a sub-20 start into a runner-up finish, but his run at the Clash left much to be desired. Starting 13th in a field of twenty, he remained midpack throughout the first stage, only to get collected in a multi-car pileup near the end of the second and end up being classified 17th. Despite this, Jeremiah displayed the cool, calm behavior he was known for while talking to reporters after the race. "It does suck to be at the wrong place at the wrong time," he said, referring to his wreck, "but at least it happened in a race that doesn't award or affect the points." Later he would find out where Thea and Ilya were bowling, and not wanting to become a laughingstock once Jungle Fever rolls (heh) around, decided to go practice himself. He picked a lane far away from his teammates though, not wanting to ruin the datbonding moment between the two.

Stacie Houston started eighth in the Clash and remained in the top half of the field throughout the race. Qiang looked to have a dominant run as he led a majority of the laps, but like her husband did the previous day, Stacie would end up battling and eventually overpowering him during the last few laps. She then successfully held off Qiang's fellow Sherpalander Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal and her old rival Yraaga Gilli'i, claiming the win in an event she wasn't even locked into until two days ago.

As promised, Stacie donated all of her Clash winnings to her namesake charity. Not knowing where the rest of her team went, she instead went over to her fellow Cassadagans Meghan Sharpe (whom she herself convinced to come out of retirement for the day), Jenna Logan and Maddie Alexander. Soon the four of them got into laughing, joking, and talking about different topics, including how well their country is doing in the NSCAA and NSSCRA, despite them not having an official team in the latter. "I'm torn, you know," Stacie confessed to the others. "I'd love to see Team Cass back, but on the other hand, I also like my new team and having fun, success, and the love of my life as a teammate."

The field didn't have to go far for the next points race in the schedule: the Tropicorp 500 at the Tropicoast Beach Course owned and operated by the tire giants. Aside from the usual sunbathing and swimming, the GFR quartet added coconut bowling with bottles of Blood Moon Beer as pins as another activity to pass the time between simulator practice sessions. "Hopefully we won't embarrass ourselves in front of the Jags now," said Jeremiah as he set the bottles up for yet another game. Ilya still always won, but the margin became smaller and smaller as the other three kept on improving.

Soon enough, qualifying day came. Ilya won't be racing until next week in TJUN-ia, so he just kept on observing. Stacie found herself with one of the ten fastest attempts, but Thea struggled at the sandy half of the track and took a starting spot in the thirties as a result. She noticed Lam, who was seemingly also disappointed about their qualifying run, and decided then and there that this would be a perfect time for them to talk. Thea let Lam know about her guilt, and apologized profusely to them for providing the spark that led to the current situation with Qiang.

Speaking of Qiang, no one seemed to be able to knock his number off the top of the scoring tower. But just as Jeremiah stole second place from him in the dying moments of last Saturday's race, the Yeezie would steal the pole award and bonus point from him, doing so as the last driver to make an attempt. "Man, you must really hate Qiang that much," joked Ben Warwick, Jeremiah's crew chief.

"I don't hate people, Ben," came the reply. "I only hate the things they do."

Meanwhile, over at the Everlong series, it was a mixed bag of results (as the cliche goes) for Skip Stiller Speedworks, whose three drivers have all formalized their entry into the Chase with a win apiece. Lexi Patterson started 15th, only for a overly loose setup and two speeding penalties to join forces in knocking her down to 27th at the end. Pyotr Lavrentiev started on the outside pole and led a bunch of laps, only to fall behind on the final restart and finish the race in seventh. As for Daryl Calhoun, it was a rollercoaster of a race as he started tenth, spun off course to drop all the way to 30th, climb back up to the top ten, lose time in the pits, fall back to the mid-20s, then find himself second at the white flag with only Ganglie Zhe ahead of him.

The last time he battled with the Fleftic on the last lap, Zhe found a burst of speed and got past both him and Lexi for the win. But this time around, Daryl would not be having any of that. Pulling up to Zhe's inside as they exited turn four, he would give him a tap at just the right spot to knock him loose and leave him behind, allowing the defending champ to claim his second victory of the season. "It was a total struggle for us at the start of this season, finding ourselves last in the standings and struggling to even get past the cut line, but now we're back, baby!" Daryl exclaimed. Later he would see Zhe just exiting the men's room; he would acknowledge his presence with a head nod before speaking a few words: "How's that, bud? Now we're even. See you next race."

She was seated in some faraway corner, far enough for nobody else to be able to see her except for me. I didn't know what it was about her that drew my eyes, but as soon as I looked at her, I just knew that I was in love. Of all the women in this place, I just had to fall for her. I had already heard her voice before, having seen her on television so many times before, but for some reason I wanted to hear her speak to me and hear her voice in person. Maybe I could even get her to touch my hand, but maybe that was going a bit too far. In any case, I wouldn't have been able to go to her because she had another man with her. And she wasn't just with this other guy; the two of them were actually hugging each other. Just my luck. I always have to fall for the ones who are already taken. I just never learn, do I? Then again, the guy she was hugging most probably wasn’t her boyfriend or anything, and I was just putting meaning in the gesture when there was probably none.

But even then, I can't stop thinking about her. She's the only thing on my mind day and night. I can't even sleep because every time I close my eyes, I keep seeing hers, and they're always smiling back at me. And every time I see her eyes, my heart starts beating fast and soon I'm no longer in any state to fall asleep. And even when I do get to sleep, she's also in my dreams haunting me. The dream was always the same: she was a fair princess living high up in her tower, and I was but a mere commoner living outside the walls of her palace. But even though in my dreams I was just a humble peasant with nothing at all to my name, the woman of my dreams would still find the time to come down from her tower and invite me into her palace. We would walk through the gardens inside the walls of her palace, and then she would lead me up to her tower where we could see the entirety of her kingdom and watch the sun rise over the realm. And though the sunrise was beautiful, I always hated this part of my dream because it was around this time that I would wake up and be brought back to the reality where she and I were not together. Waking up was a painful reminder that she and I were not yet together, and there was a possibility that we would never be together. I hated thinking about that possibility. I never wanted it to be our reality. But the only way to put a stop to it was for me to admit my feelings for her.

It sounds so easy on paper, doesn’t it? Just walk up to her and tell that I’ve fallen for her, that I love her. Literally easier said than done. It’s easy to say to myself to just walk up to her and admit all of my feelings, but that doesn’t take into account how she’s going to react to all of it. Would she accept it or even reciprocate it, or will she just laugh at me for being such a simp? It’s that great unknown that’s stopping me from taking that final leap of faith, but I know that one day, I’m going to have to take that leap anyway. When I’m going to take it though is something that is entirely up to me.

We may be worlds apart, and even though I may not have as much as you do, I still promise to be your faithful servant, my princess. Oh, princess, my princess…

There it was. He had finally done it. He had finally put his feelings out for her in writing. All that was needed for him to make all of this public knowledge was pressing the POST button on the laptop screen in front of him. Or maybe not. He could still delete this text document, shut down his laptop, forget about everything and call it a day. But now that he had put all of his feelings for her in writing, it was now impossible for him to just erase it all from existence. He had worked hard for this, and he didn’t want to put all of his efforts to waste just because he was too chicken to post his feelings. Besides, it wasn’t like anybody was going to connect it to him. He had made sure to make a username that was not immediately related to his real name, and he had tried to make the language as vague as possible so anyone who read this new work of his couldn’t tell who he was talking about at first glance. People would inevitably comment on who they thought he was referring to, but he could always ignore those comments, or more likely leave only tantalizing clues such as shushing emojis and the like in reply. Yeah, that was probably how he was going to do it. No more backing out, man, he said to himself. Just go ahead and do it!

Add a short description
Someone in the NSSCRA paddock has fallen in love with one of the women there. He knows how he feels about her, but he’s not sure about how she feels about him so he has written down his feelings and put them in a place where it could be seen without judgment. Who knows? Maybe she’ll see it and realize that he’s actually talking about her…

Or my first ever story where I talk about what I actually feel instead of just writing stories about other people.

The person currently known only by the username Ren Mazenoda took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and hit POST.

The Gardeners – Race 11 – Multiversal: Toys '4' All 500, Lonngeylin Ring, Lonngeylin, Vilita (Short Track); Everlong: Racing Collectors 300, Lonngeylin Ring, Lonngeylin, Vilita (Short Track)

At the midway point of the race, Holly lost a lot of positions from her needing to pit for the second time. Still, as bad as pitting can be, especially in places like a Short Track where one could get lapped or overtaken by a lot of other drivers, it was miles ahead of DNFing or losing out at the near end of the race. "Better to be at the middle than the end!" Tracie Valentina Kat Annie Hyvärinen Lindholm Heinon – Holly's crew chief – remarked, giving Holly a cheer and the motivation that she needed, "Don't worry, you got this! Just look for the openings, join back with Jolyn, and we may be able to get something miraculous. Like I said, this ain't over yet, so go get them Holly! And good luck!" With that, Holly slowly drove out of the pit lane, being careful to remember some of the more basic rules that have been told and taught to her since the beginning of her career – don't go faster than the RPM and speed limit, along with the gear, and she should be golden. And just like that, she went out uneventfully, then joining the rest of the pack of cars and drivers in order to catch back up and gain more positions once again. Long story short, Holly was able to catch up to Jolyn and with the rest of the Valentians, including the ones from the main team, and stayed together as per their tradition. She eventually got as far as 12th, with Jolyn and Anna behind her, and Clarissa right in front of her. Anastasia and Gwen fell and got lost in the crowd of cars, though it would be a matter of time on whether or not they can catch up yet again. For that time being, however, Holly had a mission, even if was one that is rather common – she wanted to win, or even get to the top once again. It was amazing the first time she got the podium. Sure, the crowd and the cameras scared her a little bit, but living inside of the firesuit while soaking in all of the cheers and applause given to her, she felt the middle ground between feeling like a bit of a celebrity, while at the same time trying her best to ensure that no one outside of Valentine Z figures her out fully, for the sake of her.

And one in particular was the Frenchman. It always went back to him, even if it was during the race itself. As she approached the 4th segment of the race, Holly received word from her crew that there was a DNF in the field, maybe even a crash. She should have been able to see it coming, though it depends on how far away she was, as well as the angle and the surroundings she was in. Her first worry was whether or not it was one of the Valentians, followed by if it was one of the people that she was sort of close to. "Err…" Tracie trailed off on the radio, asking someone off-mic for confirmation on who crashed, "Massena. It was #62, Andre Massena. Ah, I'm sure he's all right. Just try to focus on yourself!" Holly let out a small sigh as she did the usual turning and overtaking and the racing while also having a deeper thought. Sure, the man just appeared for the first season of the race, and there was just little to nothing that she knows about them. All she knew was that they are French, are from a slightly older time period, as well as being a bit of conquerors themselves. That was the one that she was afraid of – being militaristic and very conquering. She have read a little about them, and being told about the French Army from the Valentians. It certainly did not help that Massena was the one to ask her about the powers that she have, and whether or not she likes dominating worlds. Not a nice question to ask her, not especially when they have just met. However, at the end of it all, that is still a man. A man with his friends and family, someone with aspirations and fears, someone that has his own struggles whether be it with his own men, or with the politics of the world that he lives in. In the end, a human just like the rest of the people that she have met. She thought about finishing the race as fast as possible and quickly as possible, then she will get to him and ask how he is doing. "Well, I can always flee and fly and disappear back to the Valentians if things turn up worse," she thought to herself, before shifting her gear for a turn.

And in the end, not only she did it, but she did it with such a furor. Out of all the Valentians, she once again was the second best scoring driver, placing 10th, just a little behind Gwen while also being in front of Jolyn and the rest of the other drivers. It was quite a time for her and the two Gardeners, as they did yet another small celebration in the dropship in order to cheer and congratulate the Gardeners for their exceptional performance. "To our dear lovely friends from G6MR!" Gwen exclaimed, with a glass of drink in her hand, with everyone else downing a drink. Holly, at that moment, then talked about her plan, detailing about how she wanted to talk to Massena, but was still quite hesitant on the decision. "Well, I mean. I have been talking to him for a while, you guys know that. At the same time, however, I am a bit worried. Normally he would come over to talk to me, but now I will have to go over to him. To where the rest of his people and friends are. It's just, well, I don't know if they know about me." The rest of the Valentians sympathized with her, all of them volunteering to go together with her. However, a group of giants suddenly going over to another garage could have been mistaken for wanting to fight and brawl, so they settled for the next best thing – Jolyn, with her experience from her espionage days, would blend in with the rest of the crowd and with her gadgets, would watch and listen for a distance, all in order to passively defend Holly. "I won't do anything outlandish, you can trust me on that," Jolyn reassured Holly and everyone else around her, "With luck, you might not even notice me being there, hehe. But yes, really. Good luck, Holly! Don't worry, I will ensure that nothing will happen to you, and that none of these guys would, well, do anything funny on you and maybe hope they don't know."

It was then onwards to Massena's garage. Holly walked slowly over to where she thought was Massena's garage, during the time when everyone was more or less keeping the cars and tools and was packing up for the day. A lot of people have definitely noticed her – a mix of folks from the French Army (at least, given by the appearance), on top of the fans and everyone else who might have noticed her. She subtly did her thing for a few minutes before she waved everyone off politely, citing that she got a bit of personal business and would love to be left alone. A few more seconds later, and she arrived at Massena's garage and then presumably Massena himself. Perhaps a lot of cuts and bruises form the outside among many other things that Holly does not know from merely looking at someone. She was not going to play doctor, anyway, as she slowly walked over to him with one thing in mind. She leaned around in the air, trying her best not to freak out anyone who thinks that she may be able to sit on the air through sheer magic. There was her magical show in Valentine Z, yes, but there were still a lot out there who still do not know who she is, and she was intent on keeping it that way. She inhaled a little, her hands behind her back, as she then leaned forward and talked to Massena, "Hi there, Monsieur! Sorry to hear about the crash today! I hope you are all right, that's all! I mean, you usually check up on me now and then regularly, so I figured that I would return the favor to you, you know? The wounds do look pretty bad if I am honest, but hey, you will heal very quickly!"

Tropicoast Beach, Tropicorp
The morning after qualifying for the Tropicorp 500
The sun had just emerged from the horizon over Tropicoast Beach. What a beautiful morning. Some people were scattered around the beach away from the track itself, just enjoying the sheer beauty of a peaceful beach at sunrise. Not far away, a large assortment of people were gathered in one spot a little bit away. Turns out it was the Team Blue crew, standing away from everyone. It was the gender reveal party for Chris Holmes, his fiancée Angela and their soon-to-be-born child.

Angela looked a little bit nervous. There were certain feelings that she was feeling at that point – firstly, because she was very deep in her pregnancy, but second, this gender reveal party wasn’t entirely her idea. She just wanted to tell everyone it was a boy or a girl and be done with it. But her friends insisted she have one, and they got with the Team Blue crew to set one up. That was several weeks ago, and there were snags in getting the reveal planned. Primarily because someone from Team Blue, operating on a goofball impulse, had a connection with the Hapiloppian Armed Forces and needed to get something straightened out.

Chris had no idea what was going on. All he was told was “get your ass out of bed at 7 because we’re planning something.” So when he saw all of Team Blue on a section of Tropicoast Beach, he figured something was up. Drake Stevenson and Taylor Henderson had no idea either. They had no involvement in planning this, having spent the past couple of days fretting over how to get their cars to handle on the beach and road course in Tropicorp, perhaps the most unique track on the entire NSSCRA calendar.

Angela’s best friend, Nicole Parkhurst, looked at her watch, down at her phone, and walked to the front of the crowd, the water to her back.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate the future child of Chris Holmes and Angela Parker,” Nicole started. “It is my understanding that baby Holmes is set to make its first appearance in this world in a few weeks, and we’re here this morning to find out the identity of baby Holmes. Let’s find out together.”

Right behind the crowd, a large cargo plane belonging to the Hapiloppian Armed Forces flew over. The cargo bay doors opened up, revealing two huge speakers. It may have been just after seven in the morning, but that wasn’t going to stop this planned event from going the way they wanted it.

“BRING THE MAYHEM!!!”

The enormous disembodied voice came from the huge speakers in the cargo plane as it flew over the crowd, and the four engines on the plane started spitting out blue smoke. It wasn’t anywhere near as destructive as that gender party a year ago at Drake Stevenson’s house, but it was still annoying, and loud as all get out. It helped get the point across that Chris Holmes’ baby was going to be a boy, and was going to be named Zachary Rinzi Holmes.

“Was that your idea…?” Drake asked Chris.

“NO, it wasn’t my idea,” Chris snapped. “That wasn’t my fucking idea. Now everyone’s awake. At least we didn’t do it at three in the fucking morning.”

Chris walked off and stormed back to the Team Blue Center to grab some breakfast. He figured all of Tropicoast Beach had heard that. He figured all the cocoabos had to have been losing their shit at this point. And he figured the other drivers and other crew from the other teams, as well as all the fans, had to have been wondering just what in the hell that was. But that was not his idea, and it pissed him off for much of the rest of the day as he wondered who in the blue hell would have planned that.

If there is any track on the NSSCRA calendar that we love to come back to, one of them would certainly be Tropicoast. Racing on the road and the literal beach has certainly been a fun and quirky experience ever since we first came here as a 2-car team in NSSCRA 9 and we've certainly enjoyed it every time we've come back...heck, we've even won here in the past! As the final weekend before TJUN Speed Week, we certainly enjoy Tropicoast and with only 5 more spots left up for grabs, the upcoming Tropicorp 500 and the Tropicorp Racing Supply 250 were certainly going to be key in the battle for the Chase.

Let's start with Cup Series Qualifying and let's just say that the heavy sand and the tarmac combined to produce a grid that may as well have been created to specifically cause chaos. Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) was the best JR in 6th and will have Rustam Ilyich Yudin for company on Row 3, Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) will start 18th alongside, of all people, Aurélia Karvonen(!) and Michael Stefan (@Stefan07) will have a bit of recovery drive to do from 28th alongside the deaf wonder Tsering Chu. Jeremiah Brooke took pole over Kai Qiang in what I assume is Margaret's way of saying "I love chaos, LOL" while Wilma von Cärinthen rounds up the Top 3. Anna Star Joy Thanda Pwint Thinzar Nwe was the best non-charter in 13th, Cocoabo #28 the best open-charter in 25th, Bismillah Untas will start 32nd and Lam Chow-Cheung will start 42nd with the whole world rooting for them...at least, I'd like to think that was the case. Best wishes to Andre Massena, who's recovering from the injury they suffered back in Vilita and won't be here this weekend. Je vous souhaite le meilleur rétablissement!

Now, onto the Everlong and the TRS250 would certainly be an interesting time. Turakki Mayelli took pole on their "home" track ahead of Pyotr Lavrentiev and Agata Kosaryova with the guys we're more familiar with in some interesting grid positions. You had a 6-7-8 of Kaarina Salo, Gongming Gao (@GG70) and Ilmari Pëkannen while Alice Jepkosgei (@AJ96) would start 18th and Robin Dragonovic (@RD97SNL) in 24th. The race itself saw 6th retirements but in the end, it was Daryl Calhoun who secured his 2nd win of the season over Ganglie Zhe and our Gao, who claimed another podium for JRT2 this season. Ilmari ended up staying in 8th, Salo down to 10th, Robin improved to 10th but AJ fell down to 24th.

Tomorrow should certainly be fun. See you then!

Ranta (The Beach/沙滩)

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Wed Apr 06, 2022 3:46 pm

A lot of people have said a lot of good things about Tropicoast and that certainly interested everyone at HM. What they found was certainly...ainutlaatuinen, a track that had one straight on a public road and another one on actual sand. Compact sand, but hiekka nonetheless. With such a unique test, let's see how all of HM's drivers are getting on in this interesting environment.

T2
For HMT2, both Kaarina Salo and Ilmari Pëkannen had never even thought that it was viable to race on a literal beach...but once they both got out there, they both reported that the surface was actually quite grippy - yllätys varmasti, mutta tervetullut. This day would not be about them, but both of them starting and finishing in the Top 10 will certainly be seen as a good sign by those in the HM Higher Ups. The order? Salo started 6th, Ilmari 8th, Salo finished 10th, Ilmari 8th.

The on-track battle between #07 and #7 has certainly been an interesting watch but off the track, things have...cooled. Considerably, in fact. This has mainly been on Ilmari, who has become more...cordial with his teammate and suddenly, this hot rivalry has entered a sort of Détente. Ilmari's reasonings have been kept hush-hush by him but Kaarina has certainly noticed the difference...and she certainly understood what it could be. Who knew that being a bit respectful could be an act of rebellion?

AK
Kimi-Suomi's VUOHI has done a lot of stuff in her time, including racing on dirt and snow....but sand? That was a new one...but it went surprisingly well. The surface was very grippy and using her rallying skills from way back when she somehow managed to end up in 17th for tomorrow's race. She didn't quite know how she managed to start alongside Alfonso Mercado but if she has pace here, then she will certainly try to do her best and get as high as she can.

What happened to her teammate certainly surprised her, and she's made sure to keep Lam's spirits up no matter what they're going through. That has certainly been noticed by her boss, Daniel Marx, who's been acting...strangely. Not anything crazy but recently, whenever they've had their chats, Marx has seemed to be very...interested in what she had to say and there were a few looks that were boarding on something she wasn't exactly sure was...what they were. Did he...No, that's not possible. But it was certainly something to note if things pop up again...

LCC
To say that Lam Chow-Cheung had been through a lot in recent weeks was certainly an understatement, what with all the drama from Brisbane and the statement they made relating to that still fresh in the consciousness of many. The sand was certainly interesting and the surface was certainly a thrill to try and drive on, but they couldn't capitalise on that and will have to go for a bit of a recovery drive from 42nd.

To be completely honest, he was mostly concerned about the twiis Qiang sent after the statement came out:
- "you can trust me." It was a bit...difficult to understand that one. They still respected Qiang as an important part of their racing development, but what happened...hurt and it would...take time to get over it all. To LCC, mental scars hurt a lot more than any bruise.
- "Your family is not at the track. You are not wear the mask for them." Mental scars and all that.
- "If you want to talk, I will take you to dinner at a restaurant of your choose or you can visit with my family for home cook dinner. But no masks." No that...interested Lam. Going incognito by going sans mask with one of the most famous drivers there are. Maybe one day, that can happen. It certainly was an idea to sleep on at the very least.

But then something happened...something that would shift the focus. It was after qualifying that Thea Alvarez approached him to talk. She struggled on the sand and ended up 34th, so it seemed like they were both towards the back for tomorrow's race. Lam thought that maybe she was going to suggest working together to try and get back up the grid or something like that...but it wasn't that at all. Instead, she...apologised...profusely. She felt that if it wasn't for her struggles, Lam wouldn't have felt obligated to send that letter or go to GFR that day to cheer them up, which would've meant that what happened...didn't happen. She felt that if she wasn't in that slump, what happened in Brisbane wouldn't have been possible. She felt that what happened to Lam...was HER fault. Not Lam's, Not Qiang's...her's.

At first, they were shocked and didn't quite know what to say. The fact that Thea even considered feeling that way sent chills down their spine. It was something that never even crossed their mind at all...and the fact Thea felt that all of this was on her...broke their heart. Eventually, they would speak...carefully and with as much impact as they could deliver...as they told her what she needed to hear.
"No. No. Don't...don't say that. You...you're breaking my heart...It hurts me to...hear you say that...It really does...

This...this isn't your fault...at all. How...could it? It was I who...decided to wear this mask, it was I who...decided it was the right thing to send that letter to you and it was I who...decided to try and show my thanks...and come over that day. Those were decisions I made, Thea...and I don't want you taking...the blame for all of this...

I did it because I felt...it was right...and that should be the end of that. Sometimes, the ripples that our...decisions make...long-lasting effects on the time that follows. What happened to me was...one of those ripples...but only because I...felt bad for you. I really did.

Please. Don't think that again...It would hurt if you did. Your slump may have been a factor...but only because I know how good you are."
