WLC 39
TRAVEL GUIDE

The Cassadaigua Board of Tourism would like to welcome you to our great nation for the 39th edition of the World Lacrosse Championships.

Many of you are here to support your nation that will be playing their games here in Cassadaigua, but there will additionally be many that come here as a neutral fan, simply to enjoy the greatest lacrosse competition in the World. This guide will provide information that will help you get the most of your visit, so that you can leave happy no matter what the ending result of your nation’s fate becomes in the World Cup.

Part I: About Cassadaigua

1)Firstly, where is Cassadaigua and what is the best way to get here?

Cassadaigua is located in the region of Rushmore, and more specifically south-central Rushmore.

The best recommendation to get here is to fly in, unless you are from nearby in Rushmore, you may just want to drive or take a train. All Cassadagan cities have a major airport, and the nation has an advanced rail system as well. If you insisted on traveling by sea, there are some easily attainable port cities to make it very convenient, but we suggest flying in.

2) Will I be safe? What is crime like?

Cassadaigua is no more or no less safe then any other nation. During the World Cup, you can confidently expect and enjoy world class security to ensure your utmost enjoyment at the games and the communities in which they are taking part. The security presence will be noticeable throughout, but also have been highly trained in these situations, so they will not bear an overwhelming or intimidating presence. If one is intimidated by it, then they were probably planning on doing something wrong in the first place.

3) Tell me more about your female-dominated society. Are male tourists safe?

Cassadaigua’s society is different then what is seen throughout most of the world. In our nation, the female is the dominant gender and is superior to the male. This should not be surprising if you have followed our own national sport teams in even the slightest of ways. There are some groups who feel that men are greatly oppressed in our nation, but that is not really the case. If you are a man, and you are visiting Cassadaigua, as long as you are aware of our somewhat different culture, you should not have a tough time fitting in. After all, Cassadagan men that play by the rules here and respect their role can be very successful themselves. As long as you respect our culture, you should be fine while you are here. If you act disrespectful, then don’t be surprised if you are soon put in your place. You are expected to follow all Cassadagan laws, even if it is not a law in your own country.

4) I’ve been to nations that have talking ponies, or banned cars, or taxes on every little thing. Should I expect anything like this?

Cassadagans love horses, but there are no talking ponies here. At least not that we know of. If we have any sentient immigrants from nations like Equestrian States, they keep a very low profile. Cars are very much a way of life, and our taxes aren’t anything out of the ordinary, and if anything are a little lower then average. Cassadaigua is modern, economic powerhouse. There are no unusual factors associated with the country, other then the gender differences.

Socially, Cassadaigua is open to members of all faiths, and we respect your right to worship your respective deity in the way you see fit; or to not worship one at all. Homosexuality is accepted in the country, though we can’t promise that some random drunk in the stands or on the streets won’t make offensive comments.

As far as drinking is concerned, the legal age is 18, though many get away with underage drinking as it is not as aggressively policed as it may be in other lands. However, do not drink and drive. If you are caught, you will have a greater jail sentence then you might be expecting, and if you kill anyone by drunk driving, you will receive the death penalty.

Smoking anywhere in public is banned, but legal in your own home. This applies to both cigarettes and marijuana. All other recreational drugs are banned.

Part II: Host Cities

CONCORD HEIGHTS: Dagan Airways Stadium (Capacity: 83,000)

Concord Heights is the capital of Cassadaigua and hosted many international championships in the past. This includes the World Cup, as well as several editions of the World Baseball Classic. The city, which is also the most populous in the country, has a lot that one can do, whether sports themed, or not. Chances are, you are coming here for sports, so feel free to visit the Cassadaigua National Sports Hall of Fame. Here you will learn the stories of the legends of Cassadagan sport, including those who have their numbers retired from the soccer team on monument wall in the north end zone of the stadium (the concept here is like Monument Park at Yankee Stadium). While at the Hall of Fame, you can also learn about other Cassadagan legends and earn new or greater appreciation for those who helped us become the first nation to win a title in the five greatest sports in the World.

Those wishing to do something non-sports themed can find additional museums across the city, including the national museum which pays homage to the past leaders of the nation. You can also take a guided tour of the grounds of the Palace itself where the Queen resides, though access to the Palace itself is not open to public.

Games TBD

BRATTLEBORO: Five Star Mobile Stadium (Capacity: 85,000)

The stadium is sponsored by Five Star Mobile, who have become Cassadaigua’s most well known company in terms of sponsoring sporting events. That has been seen most in NSSCRA where not only did they host the Five Star Mobile 500, but they hosted the Five Star Clash, a competition that was willing to award money to people from anywhere. The company has been great with gearing contests towards fans, and that should be expected during the World Cup as well. Brattleboro was not always a large city, became that way with the rise of the technological age. The prestigious Brattleboro Technical Insitute played a big part of that, and graduates remained committed to the area. People from Brattleboro are affectionately referred to as, “Brats”. While here, feel free to visit the Brattleboro Regional Transit Arena in the city and utilize the public transit system that was modernized by the entity from Banija.

The city these days has something for everyone, but it does not try to hide the fact that it caters more to the younger demographics then it does older citizens.

Games TBD

GRANDE MOUNTAIN - Peak’n’Break Stadium (Capacity: 66,000)

When Cassadaigua opened the doors to international bids on stadiums, Zwangzug-based Peak’n’Break, known of course for their delicious line of muffins and other baked goods may have been taking a bit of gamble. Grande Mountain is a big city and a deserving one, but it also does not have a great reputation throughout the matriarchy due to some disturbing gender rights issues that took place here in the past. In fairness to the city, a lot of that is so long ago that it should not even be mentioned anymore, but it may have made bigger Cassadagan entities hesitant on sponsoring the facility. That did not stop Peak’n’Break, and now the company will see their name on the bigger stage.

The city gets its name due to the fact that it is in the north-central mountainous portion of the nation. It might not be the season right now, but feel free to come back during the wintertime to enjoy the fantastic skiing opportunities here! This is the city where Male Equality Now keeps its headquarters, so you could always pay them a visit if you want to learn more about their recent accomplishments and future initiatives.

Games TBD

STARKSVILLE- Cocoa-bo Stadium (Capacity: 70,000)

“Everything’s better with Cocoa-bo!” proved to be the case with Starksville and the well-known company based in Turori. At first, it seemed like the company was looking to expand with a regional facility in Concord Heights, but it would be that it would be best in Starksville. This city had been in a growing state well before Cocoa-bo’s involvement in the city. It had been the case that Rutland was seen as the our best port city, but the city officials there did not keep up with the times and saw many businesses leave Rutland for Starksville. As the economy shifted, so did the population, and now the renovated Cocoa-bo Stadium is ready to welcome fans of the World Cup. It has had group stage matches before, and while the schedule is still to be determined, it is probable that it will see playoff matches as well.

As a port city, there are plenty of beaches that one can enjoy, and nightlife opportunities abound. Historically, it does not have as deep of a history, as it sees itself as being about the future, instead of looking back at the past.

Games TBD

NEW LAKELAND- Qusmair Stadium (Capacity: 77,000)

The city of New Lakeland was annexed by Cassadaigua a while ago, so it did not initially hold Cassadagan values. Because of that, there was always gender equality in the city. However, as it has become assimilated into our culture, that has changed slightly. Regardless, if you wanted to go somewhere in Cassadaigua that did not really feel like Cassadaigua, this was the place for you. It can be difficult city to describe, because those that live here and the overall northwestern part of the country take pride in their heritage, but at the same time will bleed pink just like anyone else here does in terms of the supporting the national team. Recently, teams from the city have been very successful.

This stadium, sponsored by the Qusmo-based Qusmair allows that nation to still get some attention during the World Cup. It’s a stadium that recently got a facelift but more work is planned in the future to remove some of the luxury boxes that there are too many of, and replace them with standard seating.

Games TBD

VICTORIAVILLE- Cassgo Stadium (Capacity: 74,000)

This is a very nice stadium sponsored by the largest oil and gas company in the nation, which is Cassgo, located in the southwestern part of the country. The city is often awarded games in tournaments like the World Cup so that those living in that portion of the country have close games that they can travel too. Those that live here do take a lot of pride in their hometown, and it arguably could be considered a little like Brattleboro without the technological influence.

Games TBD

Sarzonia Stars
If you RP first, you may/may not do the following:
You may choose my goalscorers/goalscoring events
Everything else (Godmoding/injuries/ejections, suspensions, violence/pandemics) is a no-go

Style: 0 (balanced between attack-minded and defensive)
Home grounds: Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock, capacity 35,000.
Please note: This team is renowned for its fair play. If you attack first, it will retaliate, but it will not initiate a fight.

Manager Jordan Helms, 48
Helms was a compromise choice as Stars manager after the Incorporated Lacrosse Federation couldn't come to terms with any of their prospective choices. Helms agreed to retain former manager Carter Whitlock's coaching staff and roster, saying he wanted to give the team a chance to become "[his] guys."

Defensive Coordinator: Makeeyah Brantley (43 years old)
Brantley is stepping in as defensive coordinator after the Stars fired longtime defensive boss Bill Harbour following his intemperate comments about Cassadaigua's national team. She served as a defensive coordinator at the collegiate and pro levels for eight years.
Offensive Coordinator: Tyler Pawlenty (51 years old)
Pawlenty helped mold offenses in college, in particular Rypien State College during a four-year period when that school won three collegiate national titles. His teams emphasise possession and patience, often including multiple passes before taking the perfect shot.
Assistant Coach: George Tomlin (35 years old)
Tomlin recently retired as a faceoff specialist after a collegiate career that saw him win 78 percent of his faceoffs. During his professional career in Sarzonia, he won 69 percent of his faceoffs. He can coach multiple styles of faceoffs, taking into account multiple fogos.
Assistant Coach: Bradley Morse (55 years old)
Serves as goalie coach. He helped several Sarzonian World Lacrosse Championship winning teams with goalies in an informal capacity. Now, he's coming out of retirement to provide assistance as a paid full-time coach after Whitlock convinced him to do so.

Expectations for lacrosse in Sarzonia are always going to be heightened no matter what.

When Sarzonia began its latest period of isolation, the lacrosse team retired from international competition as the most decorated team in history with five World Lacrosse Championship trophies. Harold Price had four titles. Mike Sandusky had one. Carter Whitlock was an all-everything player and a Sarzonian sporting hall of famer.

Sarzonia's return to multiversal sport happened gradually, beginning with the lacrosse team. Carter Whitlock went from being an all star on the pitch to prowling the sidelines as manager. The team did well, but they still failed to win a championship except for a Champions Challenge Cup, best described as sort of an equivalent to the Cup of Harmony for lacrosse. Eventually, the Incorporated Lacrosse Federation decided they needed a different voice at the top and opted for Jordan Helms as the manager. He wasn't allowed to bring his own guy in until Bill Houlder left the team as defensive coordinator. Then Helms brought in Makeeyah Brantley as defensive coordinator.

Then the Stars got back to the top of the podium, winning two consecutive WLC titles and surpassing Abanhfleft for the most in history after the Fleftics surpassed the Stars for the most titles in history.

Now? Helms is managing a team with expectations and one carrying an active 19-match winning streak into the 39th World Lacrosse Championships. The goal isn't just to get to Cassadaigua, Helms said. The goal is to become the first team to ever win three consecutive WLC crowns.

"We're not satisfied with 'doing well'," he said. "The only way we do well as a team is to win a championship."

Needless to say, with the team having not only won two consecutive World Lacrosse Championship titles and 19 WLC matches in a row, Helms opted to make no changes in a team that has jelled together under his watch. He said he was concerned Brantley would have latched onto another national team as manager. However, she's back and she expects the fact that her defence's additional familiarity with her and her expectations would provide even better results as the Stars strive to become the first team to win three consecutive WLC titles.

"The more you get into a system, the more your players know what to expect, the better your results get," she said. "I know what the players can do and what they can't do. They know what I expect. Put those two things together and you get good things the majority of the time."

Helms said he would have a reaction to the group draw when it happened. In the meantime, though, he said the team's expectations were high no matter who their opponents are. Even being placed in a Group of Death wouldn't deter the Stars.

"We expect to win no matter what," he said. "It doesn't change whether it's Banija or Abanhfleft or any other team across from us."

The Ranorian Krauts of Lacrosse are one of the most mean, violent teams you're ever going to run into. Most of the stars of this team are on the defensive end, and honestly the three starters there are the best players on the team. Hell, the top 4 guys there are likely the best 4 on the squad, so don't expect a lot of shootouts.

In their first season, the Krauts surprisingly managed a winning record before their debutant season was highlighted by a 15-10 victory over the top-ranked Fleftics in the first round of the knockout stage. This go-round, they're hoping to build on that success and establish themselves as a consistent playoff contender.

Team Success:
Overall Record: 5-4
Group Stage Record: 4-3
Knockout Stage Record: 1-1

Away: 2-2

Team Captains: Viggo Grayson, Sam Frodin

Key:
Name, age, gender, height/weight, standout trait (if any)

Attackers:
Name Gender Age Size
Reoul Schmidt M 29 6-2/200
Tony Klein M 31 6-1/185
Billbert Kowanzigg M 25 6/180
Mille Quiggins F 33 5-11/175
Marcus Quark M 32 6-3/185

Reoul Schmidt is the best of this bunch, a powerful athlete and a physical presence on the front end of the field. Both he and Tony Klein are keen to start fights, and their getting thrown out of games isn't out of the question. While the Krauts are a conservative offense and don't score much, those two are the most likely culprits.

Fortunately, Millie Quiggins is a veteran with a level head and reliable play while Marcus Quark's awareness is a plus trait. Billbert is the wild card of the bunch. Expect him to cough up the ball often but make enough "what the hell" plays to make it worth it.

Name Gender Age Size
Jack Switzer M 26 6-1/170
William Corey M 35 6/180
Curry Clank M 27 6-1/190
Billbert Holmes M 30 5-11/185
Arian Muller M 29 6-3/190

Jack Switzer and William Corey are the two to watch out for here. Switzer is fast enough to force a turnover you didn't see coming and Corey, despite his age, has a knack for being able to see how the game is playing out and jumping the ball as a result. Curry Clank is as mean as they come, who also gets ejected every once in awhile. Fortunately the reserves - Billbert Holmes and Arian Muller, are reliable. Holmes is a consistently average performer while Muller can run for days on end and never tires.

Defenders
Name Gender Age Size
Viggo Grayson M 27 6-2/190
Sam Frodin M 25 5-10/175
Miranda Blanchett F 23 6/170
Orlando Rhys-Davies M 24 6-1/190

These are the best four players on the team without a doubt. Viggo Grayson in particular is the leader of this team and is a freak athlete. He isn't quite as technically sound as other greats, but he's fast, twitchy, and strong. Sam Frodin is dependable and is great in a support role, filling in the gaps that Viggo may leave to let the man make plays. Miranda Blanchett? Explosive and sneaky. She tends to keep her head down and not draw attention before she goes out and changes the game. And Orlando Rhys-Davies? He's not as athletic as Viggo, but he has excellent body control and sound fundamentals, rarely makes mistakes.

A Fortunate Tropicorp side had a strong performance in their debut World Lacrosse Championships in South Jeolerina, finishing in third place of Group D and advancing directly to the Round of 16. The Tropicorp Techsticks got a critical victory over Beaverriver on the final matchdays of group play by a 12-9 scoreline which secured their place in the Round of 16 over Ranoria who could not close the goal differential gap despite putting 18 past Quebec and Shingoryeo.

It was a tale of two halves for Tropicorp who started the competition with consecutive defeats at the hands of regional rivals Sarzonia, the Cordian Isles and Ranoria to go 0 for 3 to start the campaign. It would all take a turn against Cassadaigua though when Team Tropicorp would secure an impressive 12-4 victory that would prove to be the catalyst for a four-game winning streak that would propel them into the knockout rounds.

The Techsticks opponents for the Round of 16 would be the Taxonomic Kingdoms who had finished 2nd in Group A with six victories and a towering +34 Goal Differential. It wasn't a positive matchup for Team Tropicorp but they had already exceeded expectations on their debut performance. A crowd no greater than 9000 was on hand to see Tropicorp play the Taxonomic Kingdoms at Hamphire Park in Manclester and it didn't take long before it was clear that the end of the road had arrived for the Techsticks. The Taxonomic Kingdoms would secure a 17-9 victory over Tropicorp in route to an appearance in the World Lacrosse Semi-Finals where they were ultimately defeated by Banija. The Taxomonic Kingdoms would ultimately finish the Tournament in 4th place and served as a decent feather in the cap of the debutant Tropicorp Team that they could only be stopped by a team that would advance to the Final Four.

Now, Tropicorp will return as a ranked team for the first time in a much smaller group with no margin for error, needing to secure victories right from the start or they will be sent packing before ever getting settled in to begin with.

The Kriegiersien Lacrosse Nationalteam

After losing against later finalist Banija 18–10 in the quarter finals at the 38th World Cup in South Jeolerina, Kriegiersien was left with the desire of a medal again.

An evaluation from a Supercomputer Image found that the pursued path was correct and had to be continued.

The team consisted at first out of many Xvarts, locals from the recently conquered stolen lands, that have become very proficient in the sport. After a short dominance, other races and cultures found their way into the sport, who got a better funding over the years.
The team is now a good mix of Xvarts, Zombie Players, Orcs and Humans.

For a nation where nudity is mandatory, clothes are always a nice surprise. Kriegiersien comes as always in their black Olympic rags.. jerseys.

The Bollonischian Lacrosse Team
The Bandits

Image

The Bollonischian Lacrosse side, affectionately known as the Bandits at home will be taking part in their third World Lacrosse Championship following two wild experiences with the tournament. Our first World Lacrosse Championship in Baker Park was a rather successful one with us making it quite far into the tournament. The young and talented Bollonischian side reached the Round of 12 before eventually being knocked out by Kohnhead. We started off the group stage with a strong win over Sylestone, before falling prey to Sannyamathland in the very next match. After a very interesting group stage which saw us defeat second seed Banija on the last match day we advanced to the Round of 12 by the skin of our teeth. In the Round of 12 we were eliminated by Kohnhead as we had had a dream WLC making it much farther than we expected.
This great success didn’t continue into the next WLC in South Jeolerina however as we failed to even make it out of the group stage. It had overall been an absolutely awful performance as we suffered losses against teams we had no business losing too, such as Venmere. This calamitous WLC was proof that we yet weren’t at that level to compete for championships or even anything close to it with the lacrosse side being dragged back to Earth over the course of one tournament.
The Bollonischian Lacrosse circuit of players is quite a diverse one, especially given a rich domestic scene with clubs in practice till this day. A domestic scene that could compete with the likes of football and cricket. This gave the managerial staff and the Board lots of options in making the all important squad choices. The newly refurbished Bollonischian lacrosse team won’t only consist of experienced veterans but also similarly to the team that took part in our first WLC, the team will also consist of young, hungry players.

Cordian National Lacrosse Team

NORTH STARS
Home, away, and alternate, respectively.
ImageImageImage

The last WLC saw a good group stage run from the Cordians end all too quickly in the Round of 16, and the new 16th-ranked nation in lacrosse will be looking to make it further this time around. Many of the starters for WLC 39 were part of the second unit in WLC 38, providing experience and leadership on an overall very young squad. It's an interesting Group 2 for Cordia, as the North Stars will face Sarzonia twice. There's a bit of history there, as Cordia will be eager to avenge the 14-8 drubbing they received at the hands of the (normal) Stars last time around. Also in the group are Bollonich, ranked 13th in the world, and newcomer Hannasea, unranked. A double round robin format will allow for three home matches and three in the other nations before the knockouts in Cassadaigua.

All of these will be played in Jutland City Stadium, capacity 45,000 and host of the CIFA's Jutland FC, a constantly competitive club that fell hard in the most recent season. It also hosts the Jutland Dreadnoughts, a first-tier team in the Cordia Lacrosse League (CLL) which was sixteenth in the last season.

Coach: Nils Skoglund (37)
Skoglund just recently retired from professional lacrosse and is well-respected by the team for participating in many of the drills he creates.

Assistant Coach: Elise Groven (42)
Groven runs the offensive side of the team, having formerly played in the Cordian league. She runs a fast, constantly moving offense, which involves a lot of “cross-and-drops” around the outside of the offensive zone. A team defending this offense must have great communication, or else they’ll find themselves leaving players open all over the place.

Assistant Coach: Aleksander Ekern (40)
Ekern runs the defense. As it goes up against Groven’s offense in practice, the defense communicates very well and a screw-up in coverage is rare. The defensive squad is aggressive, especially in the “slot” in front of the net where most goals are scored.

Goaltender Coach: Isak Solum (55)
Solum was a goaltender in the league a while ago, and his job is really just to work with the goaltenders on various aspects of their game that are currently weak.

Starters in bold.

Attackers

Niklas Aasen (28) VC
Hans Rue (26)
Nelly Rue (26)

Mona Hougen (21)
Silvia Benjaminson (26)
Peter Fjelde (27)
Nora Simmons (24)
Ash Brooke (23)
Alex Forest (28)

The Rues and Aasen had a very good run of it in the last WLC and now move into the starting position. They've been together as a unit before, so expect their styles to fit fluidly together. There are no other really significant attackers, and absent a major injury don't expect subs to get very much playing time. Aasen is a joker by nature but is taking on more responsibility this tournament, as vice captain.

Midfielders

Selma Lier (27) C
Torstein Aasland (22)
Ella Ringstad (23)

Finn Oie (26)
Oskar Ranum (26)
Vera Rostad (22)
Olav Halse (26)
Phillip Beck (20)
Sofie Strom (21)

Aasland was one of the first-unit players last tournament and will remain there this time. Now two years older, he'll be even more competitive. Ella Ringstad is another young player to watch, as she performed quite well in the last tournament and should be expected to do even better with the advantage of experience gained in the CLL.

Defenders

Johan Agdestein (20)
Benjamin Sogard (27)
Brit Loe (26)

Ottar Matthiesen (24)
Edvin Bjork (23)
Haakon Breland (30) VC
Rolf Agle (21)
Renee Giese (20)
Anne Helseth (27)

The Cordian squad is chock-full of young talent, and the defenders are no exception. Agdestein was effective as an 18-year-old; he'll be an absolute monster in years to come when he reaches his prime. Not returning from last WLC's second unit is Oskar Meas, now 23, who found himself out of the lineup after tryouts, replaced by Edvin Bjork and Renee Giese.

Goaltenders

Tore Volden (24)
Mai Gilbertsen (21)
Nicolai Vang (28)

Tore Volden is back where he belongs. What else is there to say? Mai Gilbertsen is also a solid young goaltender with her best playing years still out ahead of her.

Championnat de crosse de Kingsley - a past, present and future

The Championnat de crosse de Kingsley or the Kingsley Lacrosse Championship is the highest level of Bollonischian domestic lacrosse having a rich history predating the existence of a national team itself. The introduction of lacrosse as a sport in Bollonich was through trade and commerce in port cities as the game was soon taken up by the aristocracy of the early Bollonischian Republic. The structure of the league didn’t take long to form, as this was the very first domestic sports league in Bollonich despite remaining to be an amateur one. Initially the championship started with 4 teams from Fermont itself, with each side essentially being a rich neighbourhood. However, with the expansion of the popularity of lacrosse and better transport facilities, more teams from different port cities joined in on this league. With the continued expansion of the championship and general popularity, the shift to professionalism in the league started to occur with teams slowly hiring professional players as it offered a higher entertainment factor to audiences. By the 1930s the championship had already taken a good foothold in coastal Bollonich with 16 teams in the championship. With a stable foothold over the market for niche sports, lacrosse seemed to be becoming one of the most popular sports in Bollonich. That was until the economic depression of 1960s and the overall upheaval of the Bollonischian economy as a lot of the aristocracy lost their social stature. The aristocracy who mostly were responsible for the funding of the lacrosse sides, had lost not only their social stature but also a majority of their funds. Team owners hence sold major shares of the teams forming a more publicly owned venture with various stakeholders including the people. The championship since then has not only seen a shift in culture with the economic depression making a massive hit on the popularity of lacrosse as the expensive nature of the sport started being a burden. At present, the domestic lacrosse scene is similar to the cricketing scene with it occupying a secondary position in domestic lacrosse. Unlike handball and volleyball, lacrosse hasn’t drawn corporate interest yet, which could be the next step for the development of the sport. A well defined domestic structure and pyramid however provides it with a very good youth development system allowing the national team to never be short of young players to take up. Lacrosse doesn’t see much in the way of corporate funding however with some companies acquiring holdings in teams, it could very well be a possibility in the near future.

Jordan Helms is not given to taking any teams lightly.

One of the most focused managers in a Sarzonia that prides itself on laser-like focus in a country that demands perfection, Helms has guided the Sarzonian national lacrosse team to 19 consecutive victories in WLC play and has seen his team match, then surpass Abanhfleft for the most WLC crowns in the history of the sport. Helms has Sarzonia gunning not only for its third successive WLC championship to become the first country to ever accomplish that feat, but the Stars are also shooting for their eighth championship, a number that would further cement Sarzonia's place as the greatest lacrosse playing nation of all time.

He surveyed the group draw announced last night in Concord Heights. The No. 1 ranked Stars were drawn with No. 13 Bollonich, No. 16 Cordia and unranked Hannasea in Group 2. The teams will play a double-round robin, so there'll be three matches at Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock, a stadium dedicated to lacrosse that had temporary seats installed for the Jenna Raven Cup final. Those seats have been removed, leaving a capacity of 35,000.

"None of those teams are necessarily rivals in the sense of a Delaclava, a Banija or Abanhfleft," Helms said. "That said, we already know Cordia are going to be highly motivated to face us after we beat them last time. Bollonich are active in the sporting world and we've faced them a number of times in a variety of sports. Hannasea seem to be dangerous no matter what sport they play."

One of the biggest keys for the Stars, as always, will the play of Noah Ryanson and the other faceoff specialists. Helms said the importance of winning faceoffs is "paramount to everything in lacrosse," because teams with the ball can dictate the tempo and flow of a match. Sarzonia has won its last two WLC crowns because of its success at the "X," according to defensive coordinator Makeeyah Brantley, who added that offensive possessions help keep the defence from tiring out.

"If you win the time of possession battle and you control the offence, it helps the defence. That's pretty much the case in just about any sport," she said. "The best offence is typically a great defence, but an offence can help a team enormously by controlling time of possession and dictating tempo."

Team Notes:
- Team is neutral in focus, both offensively and defensively, but a high modifier is used due to the scoring ability of the the attack.
- Team is not looking to be excessively physical, and will shy away from any cheap actions. Physical play is kept within the rules. However, if others get cheap will us, they will respond accordingly. They are not afraid to throw punches (or receive them) from male players, but will only do so in response to an opponent's actions, they do not instigate it. Instigating something with Proctor is not advised unless your player is exceptionally good at fighting.
-- Team has undergone massive turnover from the last WLC.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL LACROSSE TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's sixteenth time participating in the World Lacrosse Championship. Sixteen times Abanhfleft has taken part in the WLC, and in six of those times they have emerged as champions. For reasons that can be simply summed up as "it's the best thing we've done in a while," the Democratic Republic sent forth their women's national lacrosse team for their first seven appearances in the competition. The women's team, led by the "Fearsome Threesome" of Menan Alrisheb, Fatima Alsambis, and Cecilia Cuvimi, managed to win third place in their first ever tournament WLC XIX, beating the Serbian Empire to nab the bronze from under the veteran nation's noses. They went on to win back-to-back titles in WLC 22 and WLC 23 before a miserable performance in WLC 24 saw them eliminated in the group stage, but they have come back to win it all once again in WLC 25 to set history as the first nation to win three titles in four attempts. It was then decided that it was time to switch things up, and so for the first time in WLC history, Abanhfleft sent forth a mixed team of men and women to play international lacrosse in WLC 30. And they came close, but were still unable to snag the ultimate prize, losing to the eventual winners Wrexwic in the final. Eventually, finally, Abanhfleft did pick up another title on home soil in WLC 32; unfortunately they were unable to defend it in WLC 33, and were only able to collect the bronze in Jeckland. Victory was achieved yet again in WLC 35, and the objective of becoming a six-time lacrosse champion was achieved immediately afterwards, in WLC 36. Abanhfleft couldn't stop Sarzonia from picking up title number six in Baker Park, and then the repercussions of the Ripperidone scandal affected the team during WLC 38, forcing them out at an earlier time than usual. Now the chase is on to equal Sarzonia's seven championships here in Cassadaigua.

The history of lacrosse in Abanhfleft is both long and short, in that it has been in the country for a long time, but a concise summary of said history can be written down in just ten to fifteen sentences or maybe more. Lacross was introduced in Abanhfleft by vacationing Canadian college students and expatriates who missed playing the game. The first truly Fleftic lacrosse players came from association football and field hockey backgrounds, and these players played in seasonal lacrosse clubs to augment their salaries during their respective sports' offseasons. The first national lacrosse league in Abanhfleft was established in 1929, and was composed of 7 teams coming from the Capital Islands. The Fleftic national lacrosse league system adopted its current franchise format in 2001, with the National League (now called the Lacrosse League of Abanhfleft) separating itself from the pyramid and becoming an independent organization of its own right. The Fleftic Lacrosse Federation (Samahang Lakros ng Abanhfleft or SLA) was established in 1930 to manage the leagues, and to see to the creation of a national team. The Abanhfleft men's national lacrosse team played its first game in 1931, where they lost 1-0 to a team of Montreal college players.

1963 saw the first attempts to introduce women's lacrosse into Abanhfleft. Women's lacrosse had vastly different rules from men's lacrosse, and while these programs saw some success in the mid-sixties, Fleftic women decided that the rules of women's lacrosse were "too soft," and simply adopted the rules of men's lacrosse. When the women's national lacrosse team played its first games in 1969, they surprised many other teams with their extremely aggressive style of play, the likes of which were more usually seen in men's lacrosse games. This led to many incidents of broken legs, broken arms, broken ribs, broken jaws, and so on and so forth. Eventually, the SLA established another women's team, this one focusing on women's lacrosse rules. Teams playing Abanhfleft are well-advised to treat the women like men because the girls will certainly treat their opponents like Fleftic men.

They have won six World Lacrosse Championships, winning in WLC 22, 23, 25, 32, 35 and 36. Starting in WLC 26, the team entered a rebuilding stage in which it maintained its ranking in the multiverse as much as possible without really challenging for the title. But in WLC 30, the SLA declared the rebuilding done, and the national team backed up this announcement with a deep playoff run that went all the way to the final, where they were unfortunately stopped by Wrexwic. Abanhfleft fell in the Round of 12 against hosts Baker Park in WLC 31, but the Amazons would come out on top of the lacrosse world once again after winning the championship on their home soil in WLC 32. Fortunes have been up and down in more recent times though; while the team crashed out of the quarterfinals in WLC 33, they were able to collect a third place finish in WLC 34. The team plowed through the tough schedule created by the Casaran format in WLC 35, proving the adage that "you can only beat the teams in front of you" true. One of those teams would be Vangaziland, a fellow serial winner in the competition, and in a final sure to go down as a classic, Abanhfleft emerged as 9-6 winners to lift their record-equaling fifth title. In WLC 36, the objective was to break the record and snatch it from Sarzonia, who were also planning to do the same. The Amazons defeated the Stars in the quarterfinals of WLC 36, and the team beat such giants as Banija and Cassadaigua to lift the World Lacrosse Championship for the sixth time. Now, the mission is simple: seven in 37.

Additional information
Nickname: The Amazons
Colors: All white with blue, orange, and green stripes on the waistline and yellow numbers in a red circle (home kit); all red with yellow letters and numbers (away kit)
Style: Abanhfleft is an attacking team. The legacy of football and hockey players dabbling in lacrosse in its early days in Abanhfleft has resulted in a playing style that emphasizes getting the ball up front for chances to score. This, however, leaves the defense a bit thin, as at least two midfielders join the attackers in forays up to the goal, leaving behind only the defenders and the keeper. The midfield makes up for this by rushing back to their positions as soon as the opponents have acquired the ball.

Rock Paper Scissors

Jos van Karajan banned indefinitely, Ronny and Paul also benched

Jos van Karajan, 60, the coach of the Pussonne Serpents and the Delaclava Phoenixes who is widely considered the "godfather of modern Delaclav lacrosse", has been banned indefinitely and for a minimum of five years from ULTimate and international activities for a number of competitive balance offenses and other misconducts.

The penalty represents the conclusion of a months-long investigation into Karajan over free agent and draft interference, ball and field tampering, and officiating corruption. ULTimate President Dan Cressy wrote in a statement: "Our investigation conclusively revealed that Jos van Karajan, coach and owner of the Pussonne Serpents, did repeatedly and continuously engage in numerous activities that upset the competitive fairness and integrity of ULTimate. With his suspension, we hope to restore a competition based on sportsmanship and good faith, and rebuild the players' and the public's trust in our league."

Karajan's sons - goaltender Paul, 31, and attacker Ronny, 28 - were also handed indefinite suspensions, from which each may be reinstated after one year. It was determined that both had played a significant role in van Karajan's activities, including soliciting players while under contract with other teams and ensuring that tampered balls were used in play. In each of the Serpents' two record-setting seasons, Ronny led the league in goals and was named ULTimate MVP, while Paul was also named to the First Team.

Karajan's wife Marielle, 30, who had served as the strength and conditioning coach for both the Serpents and the Phoenixes, is currently serving a minimum two-year suspension for facilitating the usage, both consented and non-consented, of performance-enhancing drugs. She was not assessed any additional penalties in connection with Jos' suspension.

None of the Karajans were available for comment.

Jos van Karajan was the preeminent figure in growing the youth and domestic lacrosse systems prior to Delaclava's international re-opening. He was a founding member of the new Delaclav league, the United Lacrosse Tour (ULT), branded as ULTimate, and served as coach of the Pussonne Serpents. Additionally, he had served as the Phoenixes coach since the 34th edition of the World Lacrosse Championships.

In the first year of the revamped ULTimate, the Serpents went 66-5-1 in the regular season, 6-3 in tournament finals, and 11-0 at the season finals for a total record of 83-5-4, establishing Jos not only as a pioneer but as a fiercely competitive and dominant coach. In the subsequent year, the Serpents compiled a 69-3-0 regular season record and a 7-2 tournament final record before again taking the season championship in dominant fashion, for a total record of 87-3-2.

However, suspicions began to arise prior to that second season when numerous collegiate prospects, including Alex Arnau and Carlos Roby, did not sign with their drafting teams and inked contracts with the Serpents immediately following the expiration of draft rights. TV ratings and attendance figures waned throughout the second season as Serpents victories seemed inevitable. Further skepticism came when the Serpents appeared to benefit from many serious referee errors in close wins over the Carnstone Coyotes in the semifinals and the Kalinin Winterwolves in the final.

A routine offseason officiating review revealed that officials had been bribed and intimidated to make favorable calls for the Serpents. Subsequently, Arnau, who was the highest-paid rookie only to sit behind Paul van Karajan the entire season, admitted that Paul had been contacting him even before the Coyotes drafted him.

That launched the investigation into Jos, and resulted in the dissolution of the Serpents, forcing the Serpents to re-draft as an expansion team. This past season was far more competitively balanced, with the Serpents finishing fourth in the regular season and losing in the quarterfinals. The Winterwolves, who had accrued just 32 wins in 144 regular season games in the Serpents' two championship seasons, took the title with Grigor Padun earning the league MVP.

Winterwolves coach Lachlan Morris will now coach the Phoenixes, which will feature the scoring talents of Padun, the netminding of David Wallin, and the defense of Roby, who was returned to his drafting team, the Orton City Oilers. The change may be a welcome one for Phoenixes fans. Jos took the national team to a 3-3 record in WLC34, only missing the Round of 16 on tiebreak. At WLC35, the Phoenixes finished in 13th place at 2-3, missing the playoffs by just one spot. However, Jos van Karajan neglected to submit the paperwork for WLC36, and the Phoenixes have a 2-10 record in the past two editions.

For the upcoming championships, hosted by Cassadaigua, Delaclava is the lowest-ranked non-debuting team in the field. In Group 3, it joins Abanhfleft, Taxonomic Kingdoms, and Ranoria. The Phoenixes have suffered several heavy defeats to the Amazons, while Taxonomic Kingdoms defeated Delaclava on the last day of the WLC38 group stage to extinguish their faint hopes of a playoff spot.

Delaclava opens pool play against Ranoria at White Lily Gardens in Kalinin.

Melbergia National Lacrosse Squad - WLC 39

Image

This will be Melbergia's second appearance at the WLC, building upon a growing interest in the sport, albeit mostly within metropolitan areas and university communities. The sport remains a minority concern outside of the Melbergian public's general awareness, however the Melbergian Lacrosse Association (MLA) are hoping that success on the world stage may help raise the game's profile domestically.

Expectations are minimal for this fledgling squad - there are no professional athletes here, only a team of enthusiastic amateurs who train two or three nights a week.

Through The Crimson Field: Three Quick Notes on The WLC 39 Krauts

Image

The team's leader is leading the charge in practices.

Viggo Grayson has been a beast during the team's two week training camp. Still in his prime at age 27, Grayson has other hobbies - hiking, swordsmanship, and archery, but he's been focused on his training the past two months. When reporters asked, he went into pretty great detail.

As much as I love our domestic Major League Lacrosse, I've been pushing for us to get a shot at international competition for years. This is my dream, and I've been chomping at the bit the last year and a half or so to get back on Smith Field and see what we can do in our second run.

The team seems to have responded to his intensity on the field. Even head coach Valentino Samuel, normally short on words, praised the team captain for setting an example for the rest of the unit to follow.'

Looking to contend for the place of best non-gridiron Ranorian national team

The top of the food chain for Ranoria's national teams is of course the World Bowl squad. With a 72-25-1 overall record and a championship in World Bowl 42, they're it. But the rest of the teams are fighting for their scraps. We thought the baseball boys could pull it off after a 19-11 group stage and even a knockout stage victory, but they've fallen off, having just one winning season since.

Currently, the biggest contender would be the team in the World Cup, posting back-to-back winning records in the qualifying stage in the biggest sporting competition in the world. Their overall record of Overall: 28-10-21 is strong, but they've never qualified for the World Cup proper. If this team can make it to the knockout rounds for a second season in a row - and better yet win a game there again - there will be a debate to be had.

In terms of projections...

Ranoria won't have it easy in the group stage. Delaclava(29), the Taxonomic Kingdoms(6), and Abanhfleft (4) will be our opponents. The Fleftics have won six championships in the World Lacrosse Championships in their 16 tries, but our Krauts managed to drag them down in the first knockout round in WLC 38. With a pair of rematches this go round, we'll see if that was a fluke or not. Delaclava, meanwhile, is a nation we're familiar with in gridiron, so they may be coming with just a bit of revenge on their minds. The four-team group is rounded out with the 6th ranked Taxonomic Kingdoms.

While sweeping one of these squads would be nice, we can't see it happening, and a truly objective analyst would put the over under for this team at 2.5 wins - the question being can we split with all three teams. However, we'd like to be optimistic, and think the team can find a way to win 4 of their six group stage games. With practices looking sharp and the team appearing eager to earn some hardware, we're anxious for the season to start regardless of how it pans out!
Fan of football, the Murican kind. But soccer is cool too! Just not really my thing. C(:^D/-<
I go by Ran. Unless, of course, you want to type out Ranoria. That's your decision.

0:10 Remaining, 4th Quarter, ⅛ Finals Vs. Kriegiersen, WLC 38

Time was counting down. It was a giant clock ticking in their minds. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. They were the Cinderella team, they should be through to the quarters… right? No. It was setting in now, as it had been for the last minute. They had lost. It was altogether unsurprising to most, except the very team that was taking the loss. They had played so hard for seven games, they knew they could go so far. But it just hadn’t happened today.

The clock reached zero. Predictably, the Kriegs stormed the field, celebrating, cheering. They had earned the win, no doubt about that. The game had been a battle from the start, Cordia opening with a goal three minutes in, and Kriegiersen responding with three goals in three minutes with five left in the 1st quarter. Hans and Nelly Rue each netted one in response with four and two minutes left. In the second quarter, the teams traded goals, and they went into the half tied at 6. The third quarter opened much the same, with Kriegiersen taking the opening goal and each side then trading two goals apiece as Kriegiersen fought to make and maintain their lead. In the end, Cordians pushed hard but could not get a third goal to tie it at nine. Taking a 9-8 lead into the 4th quarter, Kriegiersen had exploded for four goals in the first five minutes to take a 13-8 lead, silencing the energetic Cordian fans. A late Cordian goal from Aasen did little to raise the volume, as the impending loss still weighed on the team and the fans.

Post-Game, Locker Room, South Jeolerina

The locker room atmosphere was sad, but not with the pissed-off quality of a team that knows it should have won or didn’t give everything it could have. This team knew that everything it had to give was simply not enough; Kriegiersen was the better team. Coach Skoglund walked into the room and shut the door behind him. He walked into the middle of the room.

“That was a hell of a game and a hell of a tournament. People rarely gave us a chance of making the top 5 in our group; we made the top 2. It’s not what we wanted to do, to lose in the first round, but what we’ve done over this tournament stood out, and teams will be watching us next year. For some of you older players, this was your first and last tournament with this team. I know you wanted more, but you’ve laid the foundation for lacrosse in this country and coaching you guys has been a great experience. For you younger players, I expect I’ll be seeing you on this team and in CLL next season. Good luck, I know for a fact that a lot of you will be on next year’s team. Again, good luck this season, and hold your heads high because we scared a lot of those big-name teams, and we can expect to beat more of them next time around.”

Pre-Tryout Meeting, Hensen Field, North of Cordasfjord, Cordia

Coach Skoglund was making his pre-tryout speech, having finished going over the procedural information like paperwork and lockers.

"... now that all the boring stuff is over, here's what I'm looking for in these tryouts, and what will determine who makes this team.

First. Work ethic. If you're giving me 99%, you're making my job very, very easy. I don't care if you were on the team two years ago or if you were the top scorer in the CLL last season. If you're not working hard, I can't trust you. If I can't trust you, I can't play you. And if I can't play you, there's no point in having you on the roster.

Second. Leadership. I can't take a temperamental dumbass to the world championships. Likewise, I can't take someone who puts down their teammates or doesn't set a good example. A leader doesn't have to be the man in front. A leader should never let their team down, and when they do, they should know it and act on it. A leader blames nobody. A leader puts their team ahead of themselves. A leader should be the pillar we all look up to and say 'I want to be like them'. There are leaders on this field right now. Learn from 'em.

Finally. Make an impact. Do what you do best. I'm always watching, and stats will be recorded and film will be watched. Don't worry that we didn't see that pass or that block. Play your game your way, and play it well, and we will notice what you're doing. Also, Coach Groven will be running practice today so I can focus on picking the team. That's all for now. Have a good tryout today."

Pre-Game, Locker Room, Sarzonia

Skoglund was making his final speech before the beginning of WLC 38 for Cordia and Sarzonia.

"You know what? I don't care. I don't care who we're playing. Whether we're playing Sarzonia or StrayaRoos, I don't care. I just want to make damn sure that we play the same way against every team. You hear that?"

"Yes!"

"Then you better make damn sure that those Stars know what North Star lacrosse is all about. Play aggressive, play hard, and at the very worst we'll give them a run for their money. You guys feel ready?"

"Yes!"

"Not ready if you can barely shout. ARE YOU READY?"

"YES!"

"That's good enough for me. Make it good enough for Sarzonia."

The nation has hosted the 31st and 37th editions of the WLC, as well as the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Lacrosse Classic, prior to WLC 34.
While the sport in BP was traditionally a female pursuit, males participated in intramural or recreational level competition; with the expansion of game into official intercollegiate recognition, the National Team have adopted an all gender policy which has seen expansion of the player pool.

Ben Rosen was seated on the hard, frosty grass at the White Lily Gardens, arms crossed with elbows resting on his knees. He lifted his head up to look around.

To his right, he saw the Krauts of Ranoria spilling onto the field to greet the starting ten - first and foremost Jack Switzer, who had blindsided Rosen as the Delaclav midfielder had looked upfield to pick up a last-ditch goal. Tied 12-12 at regulation, the Krauts had picked up two goals from Reoul Schmidt, who had at moments in this game scored at will. As time wound down, Grigor Padun managed to slip around a defender for a clear lane and buried the shot. That left fifty-seven seconds for the Phoenixes to perhaps tie the game once again. But when Rosen received the outlet pass from David Wallin and ran up the sideline, he was just a bit too patient looking for open space. He never saw Switzer coming for the takeaway. Switzer knocked the ball out, picked up the ball and carried it away casually in the final few seconds.

To his left, his teammates remained spread out, each seemingly mired in his own misery. Wallin was bent completely over with his head down, the goalie taking the loss particularly hard. Defender Jake Lilly had tossed his stick down in frustration, hands on hips. The captain Frankie Joseph seemed nearly catatonic, the veteran taking in another opportunity slipped away.

Straight ahead, Rosen noticed that the attacker Michael Querrey was walking straight towards him. Rosen awaited nervously.

The two had not gotten along for a long time. Rosen had played his entire career with the Pussonne Serpents, Querrey with the Bosmond Stags. The Serpents had enjoyed a long run of success, finalized by two historically dominant seasons, with the Stags struggling to keep up all those years. It had caused tension on the national team, the non-Serpents believing the domestic champions carried an air of superiority.

Now, with it all revealed what the Karajans had done to manifest the Serpents' success, and the suspensions and penalties, the non-Serpents had gone from fed up to furious, robbed of years of fair competition and potential glory. Fights were breaking out in practices, and the coach Lachlan Morris was struggling just to get through about twenty minutes without someone coming to blows. It was almost a miracle that the Phoenixes had somehow come together to hang with a game Ranoria squad for more than an hour.

But Querrey was at least walking over calmly as he took his helmet off. Rosen looked up at him. Querrey reached out his right hand; Rosen took it and accepted the help back to his feet.

Querrey clapped him on the shoulder, then on the helmet. His face didn't show blame or anger, but sympathy and determination.

"We'll get the next one. Alright?"

Rosen nodded. "Alright."
