Overview
After the success of the 1st The Elephant Chess Cup (Signups | Everything Thread), I will be hosting a second edition, with the competition returning to Newport, South Newlandia. Teams of 4 will compete against each other in rapid (15+5) chess for the title. The second edition will be running similarly to the first, with a couple of minor format changes.

Format
There will be 9 total matches for all teams on 5 different scorination days, using a Casaran (Swiss) system. After the end of the Casaran stage, the top four placing teams will advance to the semifinals, while teams placing 8th or better will be playing in placement games.

Scorination
I will be using xkoranate to scorinate team chess matches, and the tabulate function to compile the standings. There are no rankings for the Elephant Chess Cup, and teams that only joined for the second edition will have no disadvantage compared to those that played in the first one as well.

Puppet rules
Teams do not necessarily have to come from a single nation, and may instead consist of up to 4 nations. All nations in such an arrangement will have to confirm their participation individually. Every nation may only take part in one team, while a second team may be operated with a puppet. Nations that were in combined teams for the first edition may choose to compete on their own, or the other way around.

Roleplay
Chess knowledge is not required to participate in this competition. You are free to roleplay about whatever you want, and do not have to mention the results at all.

Timing
As I am currently also hosting the World Cup, I plan to start the tournament pretty much right after the end of World Cup 89.
