[Quemorr Isles]

The Quemorr Isles is an archipelago located in the region of Sonnel, made up of two main islands, Big Fishland and Little Fishland, and a number of smaller rocks that also apparently count as islands. However, these islands are uninhabited, with the Isles mainly composed of two underwater cities for its aquatic residents to live in. The capital, Fishington, is located roughly 500 metres from the west shore of Big Fishland, past some reefs and down a big drop-off. Its 10000 inhabitants get about their daily lives throughout the city, occasionally swimming to the shores of Big Fishland and going ashore to maintain their miraculous resistance to pure air. Fish City, located in the Fishfishfish Strait between Big Fishland and Little Fishland, is home to 6900 inhabitants who dwell quite close to the surface of the sea, while a few more fish live in “villages” amongst the other rocks of the Isles.

As for the two main islands themselves, Big Fishland slopes up from all sides before it reaches a plateau at the top, roughly 300 metres in diameter on all sides. Here, two 7ball fields will be set up for games to be played. Their names, Big Fishland 7 and Big Fishland 77, are each the same size and crowds can watch through makeshift seating areas around each court, which shall be taken down again once the tournament is complete. Each stadium seats roughly 7777 people, including 777 seats for local fish willing to watch the match. These will be the main stadiums for the tournament, with one game per matchday on each.

While Big Fishland may be roughly a kilometre square, Little Fishland is only barely more than half that, with the island generally very flat across its entire area. Next to the eastern beach, two green fields have been set aside for 7ball, each with the same capacities as the Big Fishland fields. These two fields, however, will be known as Little Fishland 777 and Little Fishland 7777, of which one will play host to a single game each matchday. Just make sure the ball doesn’t go in the water and you’ll be fine.

If you ever, at any point, require to cross the Fishfishfish Strait between Big and Little Fishland, there are three main ways to go about it. The first is to swim it - the fish of Fish City will ensure that you maintain a safe passage free from predators, while the swim isn’t too long, at only 700 metres from the closest points between islands. The second option is to catch a dolphin ride across the strait. These will be running daily, at 7 am in the morning, while the cost is seven fish per dolphin. There is no preference on which type of fish, although the larger they are, the quicker they will cross (or slower, if you wish to take it all in). The third and final way is via helicopter, where it takes off from the plateau on Big Fishland and lands in the middle of Little Fishland, or vice versa. It is the quickest method, but far from the most exciting or encouraged.

Finally, two little villas have been unveiled on each island for the players and supporters to stay at. While some supporters may have to remain in their boats, these should be adequate enough to house the majority of visitors and each participating team, which will be given priority in all instances. There will be one game every two days, all on at different times although some overlap may be present in particularly long games. The time slots shall be at 10 am, 2 pm and 6 pm, in respective order.

The first-listed match shall be played at Big Fishland 7 on each matchday, at 10 am. The second-listed match shall be played at Little Fishland 777 on every second matchday (7, 777, 77777 and 7777777), while on even-numbered matchdays the game shall be at Little Fishland 7777. The time slot for these games shall be at 2 pm. The third-listed game on each matchday shall be played at 6 pm on Big Fishland 77.

To elaborate, Sevendia is a seven-shaped country in Sonnel, located in the place where Drawkland will put them as soon as he does the mupdate he said was imminent in March. Sevendian people are seven feet tall, own seven shaped things, and are overall very seven. When roleplaying about the nation of Sevendia, just assume things are as seven as physically possible, and then crank the seven-ness up a couple notches after that. Seven notches, preferably. The games themselves will be played in the 7hall in Seven, the capital of Sevendia. It has seven 7ball courts, and the two team captains of the two teams will roll a d7 together to find out on which one they play today. Each court has place for about 777 spectators. The favourite pastimes of a Sevendian are Seven and making fun of Drawkland. Beyond that, it’s good to remember the 7 Seven rules of Sevendia:

Seven Weeks before 7Ball 5

The Andorian 7Ball League has eight teams in 7 cities. Each city has a team. The eighth team, the Andorian Road Runners, is headquartered in the Thomasville/Portsmouth Metropolitan Area. For all intents and purposes, Thomasville and Portsmouth are home arenas for the Road Runners.

Each team played each other three times in the regular season. The Road Runners, the only female team in Andoria’s 7Ball League, won the regular season with 19 wins and 2 losses.

The Road Runners are in Portsmouth, playing the Portsmouth Pirates in the league championship game. The teams traded the first six sets before the Road Runners won three straight. The Pirates won the last two sets and are down 6 sets to 5.

The twelfth set is tied 6-6. The crowd is on their feet. Half of which are cheering for a valiant stand by the Pirates while the other half look to witness championship point for the Road Runners.

Denise Long, the Boring 7 for the Road Runners looks at the western goal. Jo Boardman has been the leading scorer for the Road Runners, getting most of her points within five feet from the basket.

Long passes the ball to the Captain, Molly Zimmerman. Zimmerman, runs past one of the three defenders. She looks at the clock, which has just passed the 16 minute mark. Zimmerman looks to score in the next 55 seconds, knowing that anything less would give momentum to the Pirates.

Zimmerman shakes her defender. Jo Boardman is double teamed. Zimmerman is picked up by another defender, leaving Tina Jones open. With 30 seconds left, Zimmerman dishes the ball through two defenders to Tina Jones, who scores a lay-up. The crowd erupts.

The game is over almost over. Zimmerman runs over to Linda Moon. They hug because the coaches insisted that the Side 7 and the Captain 7 embrace after every score. At that point, the game is officially over. This particular hug between Moon and Zimmerman isn’t just to satisfy 7Ball regulations.

Just before the Award Ceremony, the Andorian Sports Commission announced the members of the National Team. There was also a message sent online to iPhones across Andoria. The Road Runners wouldn’t know about it until after the ceremony, but the other seven players selected to the National team, all of whom are in attendance, found out instantaneously.

There is a section in the stands where some college and high school players await the message finding out who made the national team. As the message arrives, few are surprised that the starting seven for the Road Runners would be the starters for the National Team. It was also announced that Molly Zimmerman, the player/coach for the Road Runners, would also be the player/coach for the Andoria 7s.

Among the players waiting are Jasmine Dass, Brianna LaRue and Hattie Sims. Dass, the player coach for the Royal University of Orange, already knows that she will go to Sevendia as she was listed as the assistant coach. LaRue and Sims were both recruited out of high school to Orange. LaRue scrolled down to see the remaining list of players selected.

Before she found the list, LaRue noticed three women at the front of the group high-fiving each other.

SIMS: (to Dass) Who are they?

DASS: Those are the three college girls recruited to join the Road Runners next year: Reidenbach, Martin & Carter.

SIMS: Carter doesn’t look like much of an athlete.

DASS: You’d be surprised. She’s a very smart player.

A young woman behind them started jumping up and down. LaRue looked a bit annoyed.

DASS: And that’s Esperanza Gonzalez.

SIMS: Who?

DASS: We tried to recruit her as well, but she’s going to...

LaRUE: YES!

Dass and Sims turned to LaRue.

LaRUE: Hattie, we made it.

The two high-fived.

The jumbo-tron focuses on the section where the girls sat. The National Team’s roster was listed on the screens just before the Road Runners and the Senators would take the field to receive their trophies.

Just before the National Anthem starts, a young lady appears next to Jasmine Dass, seemingly out of nowhere.

GONZALEZ: Coach Dass, Miss Sims, Miss LaRue, I’m Esperanza Gonzales. I’m looking forward to playing with you.

The National Anthem plays as both teams stand on the field. Dass whispers to Gonzalez.

DASS: I can see why they call you Speedy. Bring that with you.

GONZALEZ: Sure thing, Coach Dass.

Gonzalez introduces herself to Sims and LaRue. Coach Dass looks forward to seeing what she and Zimmerman have to work with over the next month or so.

After the anthem, Dass turns to Gonzalez only to find out that she is standing next to their other new teammates several rows down.

"But why is it shaped like the number 7 though?"

Paul had no answer to Stella's question. Everything about this trip was going to be hard to explain, in fact, so it was probably for the best that he kept details about what exactly was going on to a minimum.

Why would a nation like Eshialand even sign up for the International Cup of 7ball anyway? The nation has no history with the sport, no major diplomatic relations with the region of Sonnel where the sport originated, and no real excuse to blow money on sending a team all the way to Sonnel, so why in the world would they go? Well, in the immortal words of many a great thinker throughout history: "why the f*** not?"

"Wait, hold on, this doesn't look like the Quemorr Isles from the brochure!" Another difficult question was asked, this time by Daniel Swransky, when the plane landed.
"You're right Daniel, this isn't the Quemorr Isles! We're currently in a nation named Sevendia, since we can't exactly fly to the Quemorr Isles."
"Well that explains all of the number sevens..."
Lizzie Archer then chimed in with a burning comment. "Wait, didn't you promise us free plane tickets to the Quemorr Isles? This is a scam!"
"No, I promised you free tickets. I didn't say whether they'd be plane tickets or boat tickets. By the way, I need you to pay up for the plane tickets to Sevendia, those cost me a lot of money..."
"THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM!" all of the "winners" shouted in tandem.
"Okay, fine, fine, you don't have to pay for the plane tickets, let's just get to the docks so we can take our boat ride..."

Once the "lucky" group got to the docks, they met up with a Sevendian boat captain who agreed to take them to the Quemorr Isles. Along the way, he decided to ask Paul "So, why are ya travellin' to the Quemorrs?"
"They won a contest that I organized--"
"Oh shut up with that BS response!" Andrew Johnson yelled. "I'm tired of hearing that 'we won a contest'! Clearly, we didn't win anything! There must be another reason why we're here, isn't there?"
"Wow, you're really argumentative, you should go into politics or someth--"
"I wanna know too!" Olly Quinn yelled.
"Yeah, me too!" Kayla Fryer added.
"You won a contest, that's it!"
"Are you sure about the veracity of that statement?" the captain asked. "I thought you might be here for the International Cup of 7ball..."
"What's that?" Kayla asked the captain.
"It's the World Championship of a sport that's very popular here in Sonnel..."
"Sp-sp-sports? I'm really not good at sports..." Grace Bradbury replied. "Is this true Mr. Boyer?"
"Tell us the truth this time..." Daniel added.
"Okay, fine. Yes, you were selected to be the Eshian National Team for this sport. Are you happy now?"
"No!" Grace yelled. "I'd rather go home than play on this stupid team!"
"Well, either you play or pay for the trip back home."

The new team fell completely silent for a second as they exchanged looks.

"Fine," Grace said, "we'll play. But only because we can't afford the trip home!"

"So, I suppose you're wondering how you're supposed to play 7ball!" Paul announced to his team.
"I'm mainly wondering why you led us into this mess, but I suppose yes..." Daniel snarkily answered.
"Well, that's an interesting question, because there are a lot of... interesting rules. I'd recommend you look at this ShowSlide presentation all about the sport, and then you can ask me any questions once we're done!"

About 15 minutes later, after the team members had been thoroughly confused by the rules, Peter Fee decided to step up with a question. "So, me and Daniel have to do poledances while we're playing?"
"Yes, in fact, why don't I show you two a few pointers in doing the best poledance these Isles have ever seen?"
Peter smirked as he asked his follow-up question. "So, will there be an instructional video?"
"No, I will be demonstrating the dance."
"Oh god..." Daniel remarked. Watching a 49-year-old with a beer belly do his best stripper dance was definitely not on his bucket list.

Within the two days they had before their first game, they mostly had a handle on the game and its rules. Sure, they might not have been the best players, but they at least knew how to play. That's a start, right?

Well, no. When they actually took to the pitch at Big Fishland 77, things turned very bad very quickly. I mean, the Milchama 7s going up 5 sets to 2 bad. Did the new team care? Probably not... until their "coach" yelled out something to make them want to win...

"If you don't make it to the playoffs, you're paying for the flight home!!"

"Are you f***ing kidding me?" Daniel asked his teammates. "Are we really going to take this from him anymore?"
"I mean, how are we even supposed to win?" Stella Lynn wondered.
"Hmmm..."

Grace Bradbury ran away from the pitch, praying that she'd make it back before the next set began. "Where are you going???" Daniel yelled. There was no reply.

Within 2 minutes, Grace had returned -- just in time for the 8^th set to begin -- carrying driftwood, loose rope, and leaves.

"What could you possibly be doing with that?" Daniel, ever the skeptic, asked.
"Just hold them off, I have a crazy plan!"

At this point, basically everything this group was involved in was crazy, so what was one more weird plan? Daniel resumed his pseudo-poledance and the match continued.

Eshialand had out the score in the set to 3-1 when Grace revealed her contraption. "What in the world is that?" Andrew Johnson yelled out.
"It's a catapult! Just distract their Goalman 7 and get me the ball!"

Whether or not this would work would remain to be seen, but with potential bankruptcy on the line, they needed every chance they could get. And believe it or not, it worked. It worked so well, in fact, that Eshialand won their next 4 sets before Esteban HaBeitzim smashed it to pieces with a hammer while yelling something along the lines of "IT HAS TO DIE!!!"... sadly, the ball bounced off of the hammer and went into Eshialand's goal, deducting a point from Milchama's total.

Milchama would still win the set, but Grace's catapult proved enough to save the match as Eshialand would take the final set 17-14. Somehow, they had done it... and they couldn't wait for all of it to be over.

[The Andorian System]

A restaurant near the 707 Hotel
South Seven, Sevendia
Seven Days before their first match

Belle Carter sits under a canopy outside of a restaurant next to their Hotel. She is reading a thin rule book and writing notes in the margins. Most Andorians play a modified version of 7Ball compared to how it’s played in Suntae. Two other players, Hattie Sims and Brianna La Rue happen to be out on an evening jog when they notice Carter sitting alone under the canopy. They run over to talk to Carter. Carter lifts her eyes from her book and waves her two teammates over.

CARTER: Ladies, come on up.

Sims and LaRue walk over to Carter’s table. They see that Carter is wearing a green sweat suit highlighted by the Andorian National Emblem.

SIMS: A rule book? A red pen? You’re taking this waaay too seriously.

LaRUE: You need to relax. A bunch of us are watching a movie in our room later. Wanna come?

CARTER: I’ll come, but we need to look over these rules. The 7Ball rules are more strict here.

The Andoria 7s have been practicing under standard rules since they arrived in country last week. They traditional rules have caused some confusion.

Sims and LaRue sit down at Carter’s table.

CARTER: So, what movie you watching?

LaRUE: Caddy-7s.

CARTER: I’ve heard of it.

Caddy-7s is a comedy about a foreign netball team that enters a 7Ball tournament. It’s recommended viewing for adjusting to genuine 7Ball.

SIMS: So, sum up what we need to know.

CARTER: Here’s one thing. After every goal, the Side 7 has to hug the Captain 7.

The Road Runners have had Linda Moon and Molly Zimmerman hugging each other, but in general the rule hadn't been enforced in Andoria.

LaRUE: How long after? Can it be a quick hug?

SIMS: And does it have to be the Side 7 or can it be the Flank 7?

CARTER: For now, we should follow this rule strictly. That means Moon and Zimmerman, every time. That means Reidenbach & Martin, every time. We can see how strict they are about it after a few games.

LaRUE: What else?

CARTER: There are these arcane rules about time. We can avoid confusion if each set is less than 17 minutes.

This rule was also unenforced at the collegiate or the high school level in Andoria. At that level, the are only the breaks between sets, which are normally closer to 5-minutes.

SIMS: So THAT’S why we did the Hot Potato drill this afternoon.

CARTER: And, in case you haven’t noticed, the positions are a little different.

In Andoria, there are simply seven player, none of which hold any specific positions. In Andoria, they have two defensive players, two offensive players, two utility players and a center, which is roughly equivalent to the Boring 7.

CARTER: And Sims, you’re a Poleman, so, when the ball isn’t in your quarter... you have to do a pole dance.

SIMS: Really?

LaRUE: That’s hot!

SIMS: What kind of pole dance?

CARTER: It doesn’t say.

LaRUE: So, she has to touch the pole and do... a dance.

Sims moves her arm up and down diagonally in a disco-type motion.

Carter turns to the last page of her book, reads the last paragraph and starts to laugh.

LaRUE: What’s so funny?

Carter shows LaRue the page. She starts to laugh.

SIMS: What’s up?

CARTER: Did you say you were watching Caddy-7s?

SIMS: Yeah. So?

CARTER: The book recommends it.

Carter’s main course arrives. Included with her order is a large seven-shaped baked potato.

CARTER: Man that’s huge. Ladies, you want to help me with this...

CARTER/SIMS/LaRUE: Hot potato!
