Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

In a past life, Conference Room 203-B had been the meeting room of choice for a local agricultural bureau. Its conversion into the Situation Room of the People's Federation of Yuezhou had been a bit abrupt; its hasty expansion had left the chairs noticeably mismatched and the table uncomfortably small. But such was life in the new Xilindao. Around the large rectangular table - which sort of had all of them pushed up against the walls, other than the man sitting at the end of the table - were some of Ren Qiang's most trusted advisors, military commanders, foreign ministers, and, of course, the Premier himself, practically drowning in elbow room at the table's head while his advisors jostled for position around the rest of it. With a nod to Foreign Minister Huang Rennan, the deposed leader of all Yuezhou started the meeting.

"As you all know, chaos has erupted in Nyowani Kitara after the rumored (but unverified) death of Boaz Akongo," Huang began. "Curfew has been declared in Dewayo, and military movements have already begun. The violence is already beginning to spread across the country, to cities such as Port Viljan and Inhalo. Græntfjall and Banija are both rumored to be involved, but we have no way of verifying that information - our Kitaran contacts have largely gone silent."

It was harrowing news. Some time passed before General Gong, an older man with a distinguished YPA career, stood up. "If Nyowani Kitara falls, then surely we are next," he said grimly. "The workers' struggle has failed time and time again in central Rushmore as of late - first Tikariot and Græntfjall, then our setback, and now Nyowani Kitara. The cowards on the mainland will surely invade once our last source of support is gone."

"We don't even know what's happened yet. There are other nations in Rushmore," Huang replied evenly. "Savojarna. Mytanija. Pridnestrovia."

"They're too far away," another general this time, a younger one named Wan. "Ana Mecava-Cetic has either abandoned the cause, or is being forced to by right-wing parties. And neither Chairman Bjugstad nor Marshal Stepanenko have shown any desire to support us against the United Republics. Nyowani Kitara is our only true ally in this fight. If they fall, we fall. We must intervene."

"What do you think they'll do if we send our military to Nyowani Kitara without any escape plan? Without even verifying that Boaz Akongo is dead?" a young minister countered. "Then what? Hide here like mice until the capitalists wipe our kind from the earth?" came the response from Gong, which he ignored. "I fear the younger Akongo may be a lost cause. If this is a new government, then it clearly lacks the steel of th-" he stopped, not out of any particular inclination to, but because Ren Qiang had stood to speak.

"General Wan is correct. I spoke to our dear friend just days ago." he looked up. "The Græntfjaller's treatments were ineffective. Boaz told me fate was counting down his days. It seems others were as well."

"But we cannot afford to act rashly with our final ally on the brink of collapse. Nafuna Akongo may be young and unprepared, but if she is then we must help prepare her. We must assess the situation first, then offer as much support as we can without endangering ourselves. Ministers Huang, Lu - focus all your energies on contacting our connections within Nyowani Kitara, and assessing where we can provide the most support. And try to get me and the Akongo daughter on a call by tomorrow. Wan, Gong - prepare our men." Huang began to protest, but the Premier cut it off quickly. "I made Boaz Akongo a promise. The People's Federation does not go back on its word."

The Farmers:: part 2

Ahead of their entry into the Lathamford Nationwide League, they had to have some discussions with potential sponsors, they needed a major sponsor because the cost of joining the league was high, among them they had to rent a good stadium for the match, Casprow Estate Field which they used before was not allowed because does not have enough facilities such as floodlights, scoreboards and even a player locker room. For that, they had to rent West Lake Stadium to be a home venue for them, and the cost was also high. The first company they tried was, of course, Casprow Mountain Tea, the company they worked for, but in vain, Casprow Mountain Tea refused to help raise funds for sponsorship and caused Teaham FC to almost withdrawing from joining the Lathamford Nationwide League, then they tried to get sponsorship from a beverage company, Woodwards Beverages, but, after scrutiny, their main condition was to change the Casprow tea brand to Woodwards Tea if they were asked to sponsor, again the proposal had to be rejected, fortunately, a Sandworth mechanical company agreed to be their main sponsor and reassured Teaham FC management, then they competed in the country’s No. 2 league, and ranked 13th out of 16 teams. "Doctor Combbrush, a poor result today against Reçueçn to open up the campaign. How are you feeling after that?"

"You know what I said before this, we can't always win against these top-tier opponents, these Reçueçns and Quebecs and Starblaydias. There is no way that this team, this very team right now, can consistently win against these opponents home and away. We were away for this game today and, you know what, the fans of Reçueçn turned up the heat. Why else would they score 3 goals against us."

"With the recent string of Approved Adorer Adolescent news in the Chartistani media, do you think that they might have an effect on this national team?"

"Oh don't get me started on that Triple A drama. That is not what we talk about in this national team, that's a bunch of baloney that is scaring the public away from actually doing their damn business. What do you mean "I'm too sexy for this" whatever? I wouldn't get too involved with that if I were you."

"The only bright side of this game was the goal Adult Royce scored in the 78th to make it 2-1. How did you process that strike when it happened?"

"That's my boy right there! I was just in awe with that strike he had to give us our first goal of these qualifiers. I know it's not Namjune or Latte or any one of our big hitters, but Adult Royce is a proven veteran of this national team. He deserves all the love and care in this great big world and in this national team."

"Finally before we go, how do you fancy yourselves in Quebec City against the Grim Reapers?"

"No way we're going to win against them. You have Reçueçn and IA Quebec back to back to open up the qualifiers and you are just asking for 2 losses to start the campaign. If we even get a draw we would be lucky, and that's saying something. I know sometimes lower ranked teams can get points away from them, but this is not a game, come on! They're stronger than us and to be fair it will be a miracle to see this game out without Trip Bed giving one up and letting us down... Oh who am I kidding!? I might as well run around and desert this team! Make them cry, say goodbye..."

Turori Schedule and Tactical Information for World Cup 89 Qualifying

Eels Park, Eelandii, Turori :: The Football Association of Turori (FAT) have announced the following schedule for their World Cup 89 Qualifying Campaign:

(3):  12 :: Raspotochje (336)
4 : (13):: St Trinians (97)

(8): 17 :: Hispinas (126)
9 : (18):: TJUN-ia (49)
(1): 10 :: Sargossa (41)
2 : (11):: Sevendia (UR)
(5): 14 :: Milchama (220)

MD: (Home)/Away

Primary Tenant: Kionao Locals

MD 3 -v- Raspotochje

Primary Tenant: Turori National Team

MD 5 -v- Milchama
Almintora National Stadium, Almintora, Turori :: Capacity: 79000

MD 8 -v- Hispinas
Eels Park, Eelandii, Turori :: Capacity: 68000

The Football Association of Turori made a surprising announcement in revealing that Turori's first match of the World Cup 89 Qualifying campaign would take place at the Kionao Minor Field in Kionao, Turori. With Turori's opener being against Pot 2 side Sargossa, one of Turori's biggest challengers for the top spot in the group and automatic qualification to the World Cup Finals, it is not a surprise that the Football Association of Turori desired to move the game to a larger stadium however the Kionao Minor Field is generally considered one of the stadiums in greatest need of rennovation among all of the major stadiums in the Island Emirate and lacking many of the modern amenities that a smaller venue such as Eel's Park can provide.

Of course the Turori National Team would return home to the Eelandii Region including neighboring major cities Almintora and Cednia Beach for the remainder of the schedule with their Matchday 3 fixture against Raspotochje at Eel's Park. When the schedules were released however many Turorian's circled the matchup against Milchama as a must attend and they will have convenience in doing so as the match will be held at the Almintora National Stadium in the heart of Turori's capital city. Milchama had performed impressively as Quarter Finalists of the Baptism of Fire Cup but not quite as impressively as Turori's opponents on the subsequent matchday, Pyazhnaya who actually won the Baptism of Fire Cup. While the Pyaz may be more decorated than the modern Milchama side demand for tickets has not been high for the match which will be held at Eels Park in Eelandii, as will the subsequent fixture against Hispinas.

When the second half of the campaign gets kicked off the Turori national Team will be lucky not to have to face Sevendia on Matchday Seven but will still need to worry about getting slurpee'd over at Sevendia Elevendia, the first of four Home matches in the second half of qualifying for the Eels.

Turori will play their last match at Eels Park for the campaign on Matchday 13 against St Trinians before moving outside the purpose-built Sportropolis for the remainder of their matches in the Group. On matchday 16 the Eels will host Ranoria at the Iobabao Legendary Park in Mliona, home to famous Turorian Domestic side Mliona-Lpaka AFC. One home fixture later in what could prove to be the most important matchday of the entire campaign, the Turori National Team will take on TJUN-ia at the Cednia Beach Center in Cednia Turori. The Center, which famously hosted the World Cup 63 final in which Aguazul become the first and only three-time consecutive World Cup Champion, is also home to Turori's most succesful domestic side, Cednia Beach AFC.

Under the Leadership of former Turori National Team defenderTarek Edgeli, the Eels have continued to employ System Karela, a less extreme variant of the Rejistanian System Karela. A Full list of the Original Rejistanian Tactical Systems and a description of the modern System Turori is included below:

System Karela: (aka. All-Out-Defense) - Perhaps the most famous of Rejistanian tactics, the use of System Karela typically employs the use of at least 5 defenders and either one or zero attackers. The moniker was generated by Rejistanian newspapers to describe the unconventional style of play of Karela Lines of the H1SR (First League of Rejistanian Soccer). Known to fans as "the most boring tactic ever".

System Jesejil: a 4-5-1 tactic, often in combination with pressing, named after the Rejistania city Jesejil kali in nanti ligat. This tactic was first employed by the Rejistania Under-21 Squad.

System Imdila: a 4-4-2 tactic. Named after Hexen Imdila, the first coach of the Rejistani national team who often used this style.

System Hisisim/Iknel: a fluid tactic where players are loaded into the midfield to create possession at the expense of both attacking and defensive prowess. Typically includes 2 or fewer defenders and 2 or fewer attackers (IE: 2-7-1; 1-8-1). The terms originate from the Rejistanian terms for Versatile (Hisisim) or Midfield (Iknel).

System Hangila: a 3-4-3 tactic named after Ha~e Hangila, a Rejistanian coach who preferred a more attacking 3-4-3 formation.

System Takil: (aka. All-Out-Attack) While at the peak of their prowess, Rejistanian head coach Laxtu Takil used an all out attacking style during the World Cup qualifiers when World Champion Rejistania played against weaker opposition. Famously resulted in the first double-digit victory when Rejistania scored 10 times against Ravea during World Cup 17 Qualifying.
The Modern Turorian System

System Turori: a hybrid system taking from System Karela, System Jesejil and System Imdila, System Turori as employed by the Turori National Team adds a much stronger emphasis on the defensive role of its midfielders as opposed to using natural defenders. The Turorian tactic has 3 central defenders who are joined by 2 wing back midfielders when the Eels are on defense. However, when on Attack, the wing defenders push up the field and become true outside midfielders, supporting the attack as needed. Interpretations of the formation could include (5-3-2); (3-2-2-2) but more naturally fit a defensive minded (3-5-2). Previously, the System used by Turori was more reflective of a traditional System Jesejil.

ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE!

Ottoman Syldavia 5-Northwest Kalactin 3

Image

In their return to the World Cup, Ottoman Syldavia, who was unranked in the World Cup, faced off against 119th ranked Northwest Kalactin in the WC with analysts all over the world predicting an easy win for Northwest Kalactin. "It's easy. You can't possibly lose to this team. 'Next Messi'? pffft, there can't be a 'next Messi'. This Ottoman Syldavian team is a scam. Don't bet on their soccer plan working out," stated analyst Skip Smith.

Well, it ended up being Ottoman Syldavia partying out the streets and Northwest Kalactin heading back to the hotel with sadness in their eyes.
"What a time to be fan," states Super League and Syldavian National Team fan Tom Mesin.
Match Report
Syldavia started the match with a goal from Przemysław, a surprise starter, as Valot was expected to start, and a extraordinary goal from Captain Jared Kubos. However, Kalactin tied the game before the first half with 2 unanswered goals, leading fans to question Coach De Gaal's Dutch strategy.

During the break, De Gaal made the hard decision to bench goalie Louis Timothe and start Kenneth Yancy. Many fans were angry at the desicion and booed Coach De Gaal as the Syldavian National Team came out of the tunnel for the 2nd half.

"Man, I'm upset, Timothe is supposed to be the new Iker Casillas! Meanwhile, I can guarantee no one knows who the *censored* *censored* Kenneth Yancy *censored* is," stated upset fan Rocky Upton.

However, Yancy soon silenced the fans as he hail maryed a pass to Albin Tyton, who successfully scored to break the tie. Following this was two goals from Valot and Jones. While Northwest Kalactin managed to score a third goal, no amount of morale from Northwest Kalactin could bring upon a comeback.

Ottoman Syldavia will gain 3 points and will be a few steps closer from qualifying.

TOMLINSON STRIKES THREE IN BASTION TO SETTLE NERVES
Report by our Euran international team correspondent Thomas Webster from Bastion Arena

EURA – 4
Tomlinson 5, 23, 77
Robson 43
SCHIMA BAS - 1
Granada 76

Isaac Tomlinson proved he has an appetite for goals after all in Bastion last night by bagging a clinical hat-trick in Eura’s opening qualifier for World Cup 89.

It’s been a difficult few years for Euran football as a whole, featuring a first World Cup qualifying exit in decades, an embarrassing knockout from the subsequent tournament group stage, and heartbreak on home turf with a defeat on penalties in Eura’s own Copa Rushmori. The domestic league system has also had to reckon with an increasingly competitive and unpredictable international environment despite its continuing financial domination, although there has at least been some IFCF silverware to celebrate. Entering World Cup qualifying, Eura are the second seeds to Chromatika, a nation with two figures worth of Euraleague players in their squad and whose football culture pays great respect to Eura.

For Eurans, this is seen not as a symbol of the success of Eura’s club football, but rather a dizzying decline in the stature of the national team. An increasingly negative national tone has taken hold, even with the relative excitement and potential of Skorji Oslograd being in charge and usual orthodoxies being abandoned, with doom-laded predictions that Eura will fail now the norm and thoughts of a third World Cup or other silverware pessimistically off the table. It was especially important, then, that Eura get their latest campaign off to a winning start, particularly given they would start at home to unranked relative newcomers Schima Bas.

Eura’s visitors might not have been big names, but it would not be the first time Eura had been delivered a shock on home turf if they had come away with something. 53-year-old manager Eugènio Tio, a frenetic presence at times much like Oslograd himself, would be at home in classic Euran football circles in many respects; his tactical style of high-flying wingers and overloading on the front foot being reminiscent of Ben Randall era Eura. The ‘Golden Crescent’ attacked from the off with their 4-3-3 formation, Bisma Shehadeh testing the reliable old hands of Kevin Belgrave and several defenders’ legs.

Oslograd’s increasingly defensive tactical set up – unheard of and controversial in this country to say the least – reaped its rewards against such swashbuckling but inexperienced opponents. A weak corner easily cleared by Jack Menard’s head allowed Vincent Robshaw to bring the ball away and, with gorgeously smooth feet, he played in Isaac Tomlinson who raced away from the backline. The Sabrefell Athletic marksman, who has struggled for consistency in the red and gold shirt, tucked this opportunity into the bottom right corner with ease. Bastion Arena could breathe.

Schima Bas tightened up and got rough as they realised their naivety had cost a goal, but a measure of how times have changed is that Eura were willing to do the same. Oslograd has left his mark on a team that previously sneered at cynicism, but now has a starting centre back, Tanya Green, who was willing to pull off a Nepharan-esque claw back on Hideki Nazar before they could get away at the half way line, shrugging off any complaints when it appeared their boot had more than just clipped their ankle. Nazar did not take it well and seemed off the pace for the rest of the match; the youngster took a pasting in the Shima Bas press after the game. The game threatening to devolve into a dirty affair, until Tomlinson broke the tension with an absolute rocket of a second from just outside the box that clipped the bar and dipped in behind a helpless Cairo Hatem.

Stewart Robson is a striker with a bit more time to grow than Tomlinson, though no less pressure to perform well and soon. He started well too despite not being start of the show. He took advantage of a sloppy piece of defending during a long build up late in the first half to race onto a Moira Woakes ball, splitting Akmal Ahmad and Emir Jalali, catching them off guard and out of position. He then steading himself and slotted a third past Hatem with all the ruthlessness and calm of his mentor Corinne Martel-Burns at her best. At half time the game appeared finished as a contest and Eura made a double substitution as a result, giving Monica Rowland and Robshaw some rest in exchange for Sharon Erskine and Chris Ashton.

The visitors responded positively to the shock of Eura’s three well taken goals, playing with a fiery intensity after half time against Eura in cruise mode, although their only goal would come from some individual skill by Akili Granada rather than any kind of team nous. The forward curled home a peach of a shot from just outside the area that Belgrave could not quite reach, leaving the Directus veteran visibly frustrated at his defenders for costing him a clean sheet by not closing down their opponent earlier. It was a huge moment for Schima Bas – their first international goal at one of the most famous stadiums in the game against one of the most successful teams – and they looked suitably shocked and overawed. The goal was immaterial to a result that looked set in stone a minute later when Tomlinson completed his hat-trick, rifling in from close range.

Eura player ratings
1. Kevin Belgrave – 7/10 – Stopped the few chances he needed to and could only be beaten by a superlative effort.
2. Harry Wheeler – 6/10 – Unremarkable performance from a player highly fancied by Oslograd. Alma Watts may fancy her chances of getting back in the squad if this is Eura’s best.
4. Jack Menard – 7/10 – A rock at the back as usual, Eura’s most naturally gifted centre back in years remains key.
15. Tanya Green – 8/10 – Had an excellent first game in her new role as the “third” centre back. Her cynical hacking down of Nazar won an important psychological battle.
5. Kevin Sherwood – 5/10 – Less convincing performance from the former Carsby man, who was most culpable for allowing Granada space to score the only opposition goal.
3. Lucy Almwood – 6/10 – A quiet game for Almwood though she did collect an assist for the final goal.
6. Monica Rowland – 6/10 – Rested at half time. Didn’t have to do much in the time she played.
8. Vincent Robshaw – 8/10 – A formidable return for a man who, if he can capture his club brilliance for Eura, could take the team far. Assisted the first goal in some style.
7. Moira Woakes – 7/10 – Got a solid assist for the Robson goal and remained a threat until substituted mid-second half.
10. Isaac Tomlinson – 10/10 – Regardless of the on-paper stature of the opposition (who played better than expectations anyway), Tomlinson did not put a foot wrong and buried all three shots he had on target. An excellent start to qualifying.
14. Stewart Robson – 8/10 – More of a supporting role than Tomlinson’s, Robson was nevertheless very good himself, and netted a goal too.
SUB – 18. Sharon Erskine – 5/10 – Not her best appearance so far in a Eura shirt. Northern Union’s talented enforcer seems young but is actually 27; she will need to step up in future to support an aging Rowland.
SUB – 28. Chris Ashton – 6/10 – Unremarkable but solid performance from the returning Ashton who was good on the ball and barely got a pass wrong.
SUB – 12. Damion Bowman – 6/10 – Only appeared for the last quarter of the game and in an unfamiliar central role replacing his club teammate Woakes but held his own and had one good chance saved. With Eura’s newly narrow formation, he may become familiar with fulfilling this role.

Vilita Set Home Schedule for World Cup 89 Qualifying

Vilita National Team Training Grounds, Alikki-Corra, Vilita :: The Football Association of Vilita (FAV) have announced the following schedule for their World Cup 89 Qualifying Campaign:

MD 2 -v- Savojarna
Lonngeylin Coliseum, Lonngeylin, Vilita :: Capacity: 141500
Primary Tenant: Jungle Strike FC

MD 5 -v- Nyowani Kitara
Lirai Asku Castle, Yeaddin, Vilita :: Capacity: 62000
Primary Tenant: Yeaddin Owls

MD 7 -v- Cabo Azure
Arcticala Electrical Stadium, Arcticala, Vilita :: Capacity: 90277
Primary Tenant: Arcticala Inlet

MD 9 -v- Kandorith
Turoki Community Complex, Turoki City, Vilita :: Capacity: 125000
Primary Tenant: Turoki Tide, Turoki United

The Vilita National Team will open World Cup 89 Qualifying on the Road against former Atlantian Oceania regional rival Barunia who will be representing the Rushmori Region during World Cup 89 Qualifying. If a start against the Suns on the road wasn't a recipe for disaster for a Vilita National Team that historical struggles in the opening games of a World Cup Qualifying Campaign, then they could do without having to face the most difficult team on paper in the Group as their opponent for the first home match of the cycle on Matchday 2.

For the fifth cycle in the past eleven, the Vilita National Team will face Savojarna in World Cup Qualifying though this time around, instead of the highly anticipated matchup being the final one of the qualifiers as it was during World Cup 82 Qualifying, or the penultimate game as it was one cycle previously during World Cup 88 Qualifying, it will be the very first home game on the docket. Of course as the highest ranked opposition of the World Cup Qualifiers for the Jungle Cats and perhaps the most important game - particularly to set the tone early in the Qualifiers - the match will be held at the Lonngeylin Coliseum in Lonngeylin Vilita. Home to the winningest domestic side in the history of the Vilitan League, Strike FC, the Lonngeylin Coliseum is a former World Cup Final host site and is sure to be packed with fans filling the open hillside that accounts for over thiry percent of the available capacity at the arena.

From there it the Jungle Cats will go on a two match road trip to face Mertagne and Arjunnagar before returning home to Northern Vilita where they will entertain another Rushmori Nation - Nyowani Kitara at the Lirai Asku Castle in Yeaddin, home to the Closing Ceremonies of the XIV Winter Olympic Games and one of the most historic and aesthetically unique stadiums in all of sport, home to one of the original NSFA Champions League winning clubs the Yeaddin Owls and having been built out of an abandoned colonial era fortress. From perhaps the oldest stadium structure in Vilita to its most modern, the Jungle Cats will play their third home game of the campaign on Matchday 7 against... yet another nation from Rushmore, Cabo Azure. The match will be played against up to 90,277 fans at the entirely solar powered Arcticala Electrical Stadium. The roof of the arena is entirely covered in Solar Panels yet can be retracted to allow natural sunlight to either power the stadium or feed the natural pitch.

After three matches on the main Island, the National Team will end the first half of the campaign on Turoki Isle where they will face Kandorith and the Turoki Community Complex, the 4th largest venue in Vilita and one of the few large venues that has multiple permanent tenants and the only venue to have seen two clubs lift the Vilitan Stellar Division Trophy within. As the home to both the Turoki Tide and Turoki United, both modern era champions of the Vilitan League, the Turoki Community Complex is no stranger to important matches and Vilita's World Cup Qualifying fixture against Kandorith will be no different.

The Vilitan National Team will remain on Turoki Island for their very next game as they kick off the second half of the campaign against Baruna at Colonial Field in Sile, home to Colonial Sile. It will be the first of two back-to-back home matches for the Vilita National Team with the other coming later in the second half on Matchdays 12 and 13 against Mertagne and Arjunnagar. The Vilita National Team will play the bulk of the second half of the campaign in the Capital Region of the country with the Matchday 12 fixture against Mertagne taking place at the home of the Vilitan National Team, the Tivali Ring Stadium in Alikki-Corra. The match against Arjunnagar will be played at the smallest major stadium in Vilita, Marine World Park in Crosaibi home of Marine Coast United.

The spectacle will be in full force on Matchday 15 and the Vilita National Team will certainly be hoping their results will warrant the cost of the traditional celebratory Rocket Launch from the nearby space port during Vilita's home match against Devonta at Lunar Park in Seraai. If the Jungle Cats can run the schedule to form and get the results they are expected to get they could be clinching a spot in the World Cup Finals in Seraai. If not, however, the match against Devonta will certainly be critical to their chances of clawing back and making late moves in the Group 3 table. For their final home match of World Cup 89 Qualifying the Vilita National Team will return to the capital for their second match of the campaign at the Tivali Ring Stadium against Fluvannia

Zwangzug's e-Lipogram

Look at this quality bird! Isn't it a wondrous avian? How striking its hair! How tight its claws! I must say I am a fan of this good-looking Giri Myna.

This is no ordinary bird; it is a mascot of a World Cup football squad also known as Jalak Putih. It was drawn into our group from pot four's bottom half, so it wasn't thought of as particularly imposing. But alas, it shut out Zwangzug, grabbing a win in World Cup 89's first qualifying matchday. Forward Pandu Oka Jaya, who plays for Royal Puncakpura (a club not part of his nation), got this match's only goal, off an assist from Rama Karyadi around an hour into play. Captain Satya Putra Laksamana did a strong job at full-back, tackling Gordon Blum and styming Farrokh Sokhi on a handful of occasions.

"Fair play to our opposition, it was a tough loss but our goal is to work past it and possibly win during qualification's back half in our capital," said captain Lissa Crain (sort of).

Prior to kickoff, our squad had a bit of difficulty finding kits. Our hosts' shirts, from Agung&Arya Fashion, look similar to ours, with dark and light bars running up and down. As visitors, it was our job to find uniforms that would distinguish us. Which our country totally did and obviously has. It's...probably a thing. Anyway, I'm not so silly as to assign fault for this loss to our kit situation, but it probably didn't assist us.

This is a disappointing start for DiMarini's gang, but it's just a start, as you know. Zwangzug's first match as hosts this campaign will occur in Wayr Stadium against an animal "Coalison," with a trip to Sannyamathland following this. Sannyamathland was also in our qualifying group last cup. Although I don't know who is on this nation's squad this go-round, I know this nation is culturally similar to Namiri, and so Guariday will host its visit (as it did last occasion). And shockingly, it won against Banija in its first match. Nobody in our squad right now has hands-on (foot-on?) familiarity with Big Cats and Lizards Coalison, but our nation won against it both hosting and away six World Cups ago.

In non-football sports talk, congratulations to Coach Liu's bat-and-ball squad on winning against Cassadaigua to qualify for "round prior to final four" in Myana, Chromatika. Also in this Classic, TJUN-ia's Jags will play Sarzonia's Stars, a matchup that our staff is obviously following with passion.

Schanke’s final World Cup underway,
By Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

As I touched upon in my first article for the World Cup qualifiers, Team Cassadaigua was nearly without their captain and leading scorer, 33-year old Rachel Schanke for this tournament. The forward opted out of the recent Copa Rushmori, but that is not something that is terribly unusual. Cassadagan athletes often opt out of that as CASE promises that they can do so without it being looked up in a negative light. Schanke plays professionally with Concord Heights City, so unlike others on this team who have gone overseas to play, Rachel is always able to play on her home turf. Representing the country in the regional competition does not have the same kind of appeal to her anymore, but playing in the World Cup? That is something much different.

“I did think about telling coach Byers that I wanted to pass on joining the team,” Schanke told me in an extended interview, “If you think about it, the last World Cup, being able to play it at home even though it was short lived, would have been a great way to go out. There’s a lot more to life, and I am not sure how much longer I am going to keep going at it. On the field, I feel great, and the results are there. My body is healthy, but there is more to it than that.” The more to it part is her desire to start a family, something that was probably accelerated by seeing her good friend, NSSCRA driver Stacie Houston marry Saint Kanye’s Jeremiah Brooke, also a champion NSSCRA driver, and recently give birth to their first child, Jericho Houston-Brooke. Schanke posted her congratulations and has since spent time with Stacie and mentioned that she admired how Stacie put a hold on her great stock car driving career to begin the family. Stacie is also 33-years of age, like Schanke. “What she does is a little different, obviously. Being in a race car as opposed to playing on a soccer field. It’s a strenuous for her, I truly do respect what goes into driving a race car but it’s different. You can get back in the car after a certain length of time. Whether or not childbirth ends one’s career is a different situation when you play soccer.” Schanke is single, but currently dating a member of the Concord Heights Royals gridiron team, linebacker Trevor McGuire. “He’s younger (28), so there is still a window to get started with everything, but you want to start looking forward to other things, too.”

The person that persuaded Schanke to come back? Midfielder Meghan Wolcott, who is also 33 years of age. Their careers have paralleled one another, obviously, but with Meghan going to play professionally in Banija (with Herzegovina City FC). “Meghan thought I was crazy to be thinking about moving on. She absolutely would not let me say that I would not play in all of the World Cup qualifiers. It’s a grind, but she sees it differently, she doesn’t play here in Cassadaigua, so that goes into the equation, and it is a great chance for us to play together. I really do enjoy that. As for Wolcott, there is no thinking about moving on. “Yeah, men can wait. I got goals to score and money to make,” she said.

If there was any question about Schanke on the field for this tournament, they were quickly erased as she scored two goals in a big opening day road win at Zoloroni Sports City Stadium in Mercedini. Cassadaigua won the match 4-2, with Rachel scoring the opening goal of the game in the 20th minute, and then a second in the 62nd minute just six minutes after Mercedini cut the Fillies lead to 2-1. “We played a great game, but when they score like that in front of their home fans, it is imperative to make sure that they do not get any momentum off of it. We had a great rush forward, credit Morgan (Rosenblatt) for really getting the play set up. The execution was very good, and restored the two goal advantage pretty quickly.” Naturally, if that goal does not happen the complexion of this game in the second half could have been a lot different. Cassadaigua’s other two goals were scored by Morgan Rosenblatt in the 43rd and Jenna Frontiera in the 81st minute.

Cassadaigua is home at the Dagan Airways Stadium against Freeport next, and no major changes to the lineup are expected. However, coach Byers stated that Katie Schnapper will be the starting keeper for the road game in Tamgu, which is Game 3 on our schedule.

A Nice Start For a Promising Season: Krauts Secure 2-1 Victory And Earn Second Slot In Group Early

The red turf of Smith Field proves again and again to be a fortress of solitude for our national team, who opened up with a competitive 2-1 victory in the most prestigious competition in sports. Barry Chlorid and Felix Graf each knocked in a goal in an early run, and the team held on for the rest of the match. Amunategui and crew got several shots on goal, some just barely saved by Vincent Emilia, who frankly had an outstanding performance along with veteran Rayko Grossman, notched a pair of takeaways.

We've got a long way to go before this team's going to be a threat to win any hardware - much less qualify, but no one's going to complain if they go out and post a second straight winning record.

In other news, slew of star athletes were in attendance for this opener. Those include RFL quarterback Paul Verona attending along with his daughter Astrid - who quarterbacks for the Richardson University Governors - and his brother Tommy, who pitches in Quebec's QBO and for the Ranorian national team. Fellow baseball stars Leonardo Harrison and Nicholas Lux appeared to tag along with Ranoria's best pitcher.

Letters to Pellier, Part 1
To: Mon Amie
From: M-F.B.

Dearest F,

My brother tells me that this message will not be cross-read, and that he can get it to you without too much issue. Not that I have much to hide, of course - but it's still such a privilege to have any kind of privacy at all these days. We all find the little corners that we can linger for a few minutes out of earshot of The Five or any of their eyes and ears. Not that I mind... But eh.

My brother tells me that they're keeping you somewhere because you're too important instead of just converting you already. Not that I want you to be converted or anything. I'm rambling, aren't I?

It's strange to not have you on the team even after one CE. They say that I'm the new person to hold up the standard, but it's a bit too much. No, really. Why must we be under such scrutiny? We're just here to have fun and play sports, to better ourselves and have a go at opposition to see how well we do. None of this political stuff really should matter, right?

Aurélie won't say much about her time in Tumbra. I'm not sure if that's because it wasn't much, or if it's because she doesn't want to get in trouble. She just has this look about her as if her world has changed. I really wish that there was a way for me to talk to her without ears present, but I'm not sure if that's possible at all.

You're probably wondering how we're doing. Well, we won one-nil, and I held the goal clean. That's all that they can ask for, and Aurélie did the scoring.

We'll hold on. I hope you will, too. I don't think that this is the end of your particular story. I have this feeling that something is bound to change, and all we have to do is hold out.

Give G my love if you can.

M-F. B.

SHARKTAIL POST EP52
HERE IT HAPPEN AGAIN.

Matchday 1

Starblaydia 6-1 Sharktail
Star:(Damocles '3, Stamfer '11,
Rashanak '28, Galdarhim '44
Damocles '56 pen, Janczewska '67)
Shark:(Ilias '85)

PotM: Stamfer

Shafizan
Nik Hashim(sub)
Nazmi
Zaid(sub)
Wan Qairil(sub)

Balang Nazran
Ilias Rezal

Downtown Jhanna, Starblaydia

3rd time in 5 edition of WCQ,Sharktail once again having a humiliation lose in the opening game. After back in action in WCQ 85, every team in the world can mark Sharktail defence as the weak part. It not to big deal to say a big hole that always open no matter how hard you try to close it.

Starting from World Cup Qualification 85, Sharktail never miss even once until the current 89 edition. It shown the activeness of Sharktail. Start from85 edition, Sharktail player slowly getting recognized and some of them getting offer from around the multiverse to play there. That a really pleasant things to see.

However, up until now, Sharktail still cannot find a leader in defence. The last player who getting a callup every game is Yusri, former Kota Jembal defender. After making his debut, he glued that position to himself while seeing his partner always changed. After his retirement, Sharktail try to find a new player to be a leader in defence but no one has stand out yet. We have a lot of defender who can play, but none of them catch up with international standard.

Alongside the weak link in defence, seem like this edition, the goalkeeper once again will be the first one to be dropped to benched. Zaid Jahir seem will be the next gk who having a bad career with national team. Before him, Asra and Zeehad Yusof also having this same problem and force them to step down and give the position to other player. Even it still early, but there is a chance it will happen but let hope he can bounce back. It not 100% all his fault for 6 goal we concede today.

The opening match of World Cup Qualification 89 matchup Sharktail vs Starblaydia. Playing away, Sharktail take a flight to Starblaydia. But it rather shocked to see the travelling squad not contain the captain, Azaim. Azaim not in squad leave everyone in question is he being dropped off or reject to play with national team. However, not further explanation come from SFA about this matter. As this team will be short on player in starting line up. Nik Hashim will start and Thet Haikal will take the captain armband. When the starting roster out, once again everyone shocked. Ilias Rezal benched, and instead of Zaman Sahami, Wan Qairil become the choice to start. A lot of comment in from supporter.

From the first whistle, everyone can already noticed what exactly Wan Adnan plan in this match. As Wan Qairil is tall have advantage is air, the plan is forcing a free kick or corner kick. However, if the match can be decided by something that easy, all the weak team can have benefit. Seem like Adnan have messed up with his plan from the start. As a result 25 minutes match played, only two time this team able to enter Starblyadia half. As for Starblaydia, only 3 minutes after the match start, one long lob pass from Stamper straight to unguarded Damocles as he easily put the ball pass Zaid Jahir. 8 minutes later, around minutes 11 or 12, Nik Hashim try to duel with Stamper but failed and he slipped down while just seeing Stamper sprint to goal and shot for the second goal of the game. As Sharktail always messed up with Starblaydia counter attacking that always coming, Norris Idris make a short think and tackle from the back ended him with red card. Just 28 minutes this match started ,we down to 10 people. Nik Hashim being the sacrifice, being taken out and change with Rajan Salad. The defend back to 4. As after the tackle, Starblaydia get the free kick just an inch outside the penalty area finished with a goal by Roshanak. Before the end of first half, a corner kick from Stamfer succesfully meet Galdarhim head to end the first half 4-0.

Start of the second half,Sharktail player already look like dead, walking slowly into the field without any spirit left. What a shock, Adnan seem staying with his decision not making any change even many of Sharktail player not having a good performance. The Sharktalian supporter seem to focus more on the bench rather than the field now. Later, Aidil Alafi once again giving Starblaydia chance to score more after giving them penalty kick. Damocles easily make a brace today with that penalty. Adnan like a rock, not budge even an inch even after that goal. The supporter start to booing him asking to make a change. Then, the 6th goal from the cross by Stamfer volleyed by a sub Janczewska finally making Adnan to order a change. Dont know what he is thinking just to change after we already down by 6th goal. Balang Nazran and Ilias Rezal in. Seem like the right side work a bit after them in and Balang able to make a pass to Ilias waiting in the penalty area just for a single goal for Sharktail.

End of first match, a lot of thing need to be refer back. Adnan surely have a lot to answer after his questionable decision today. Plus, the way Ilias not even greeting or celebrating with him after the goal just giving everyone more question. Second match will be later, can Sharktail back to track. Let's wait. Bye

Election Season: Capital District Preview
Candidates: Keira Andisori (Rainbow Party), Marion Bower (Traditionalist Party); Favorite: Keira Andisori

The current Commissioner for the Capital District is Rosen Hertel, a seventy-two year old Revolutionary who is a friend of Keri Wyse Aart's Mother. Hertel did enough to help the District become stable and well-off after the Revolution, being Aart's right-hand woman in all of the different initiatives coming from Chromia. However, with her declining health and wishing to spend more time with her grandchildren, she is stepping away from the political sphere altogether.

The Traditionalists thought that they had a way into the Capital District, Marion Bower beginning to hold some rallies and hoping that the fallout of Foxchester would help bolster their cause. However, what she wasn't expecting was the candidate that would replace Rosen Hertel: one Keira Andisori.

The now-retired Chromatik footballing superstar, who used to be a previous Shadow Writer, has stepped up to be the Rainbow Party's candidate to replace Hertel, and become the immediate favorite. She is a war hero, a sporting hero, and now, there are those who are thinking that she may become Premier someday. She's had three opportunities to debate Bower and won every single one handedly, knowing how to handle herself in intense debating situations; her poise and her wording have been deliberate and to the point.

Andisori would become the youngest District Commissioner in the nation's fledgling history at thirty-eight.

Can she pull it off?
Tales from the Lower Leagues
Pria City: The Monarch's Rise

There are stories that are missed every season by the big markets because they aren't in the Red or Orange Leagues. There are stories of surprise promotions, tearful relegations, financial struggles, teamwide drama, and external forces that impact smaller teams. We here from The Rebel will spend some time to look at nine different stories from nine teams that were in the Yellow League or lower up till the start of Season Seven.

The Founding

When the Rainbow League System formed, the teams that were in the Chromatik League Third Division were given opportunities to get a sponsor. Georgine Attawa, R-Pria, bought Pria City outright and gave them one directive: Start small and aim big. Back then, Michelle Leong was the Manager, and the team was led by a thirty-three year old striker named Marcy Dwyer. They played at a high school football field at Pria Central High School, and the team barely had twenty players to begin with.

Those who weren't from the north side of Pria were drawn to Pria City. The fact that it was owned by a politician of the Rainbow Party helped matters, as Pria was struck with a patriotic fervor after the Revolution. This fanbase would be with them forever. Georgine Attawa, her husband, and her three children - Hilary, Rowena, and Morgan - love attending the games when they can, and the team has taken to them with open arms.

It's one of the most stable teams to ever be in the Lower Leagues, and it's no surprise that they've had so much success.

The First Five Seasons

The first three seasons of the Rainbow League System saw Pria City place fifth, fifth, and third. They were never below tenth place during the season, and in Season 3, they only conceded twenty goals, Goalkeeper Erwing Wyre stepping up. Then, they defeated Inon 1-0 to make it to the Green League, their first promotion achieved after three years. In fact, it would be Wyre that helped the squad through the Green League, defeating Larhai 1-0.

The Miracle of Season Six

Just how good were Pria City in Season Six? Though they lost Erwing Wyre due to retirement, they grabbed one Naomi Efahim. Efahim was masterful in Pria City's only season in the Yellow League, conceding twenty-two goals in thirty matches, leading them to place third.

Eyrods City FC 1–2 Pria City
Eyrods City FC: Umgostinik '18; Pria City: Bessette '29, Coveny '80

One season removed from the Green League, Pria City had done the improbable - be promoted to the Orange League in one season.

Strategy

Pria City is a defense-first team, looking for counterattacking opportunities to score. Their best players are GK Naomi Efahim, CB Lanette Shaner, DM Werigo Ani, and ST Teriox Sen. They're a well-ordered side, and with a Manager like Farrione Larrianne, the Yesopalithan Elf, they're a side that won't be caught flat-footed.

Future Prospects

Pria City hopes to be a mid-table Orange Table side for many a year to come. They lack the infrastructure and the funds to make it to the Red League, but with their style of play, it isn't entirely out of the cards. They're like a poor man's Urrheddiao or Wirr Tsi; Attawa will need to pour in a lot more funds if they are to start wininng anything of import, though.

Concluding Thoughts

Pria City is the stereotypical Chromatik story of a team that grew to be their own item, applied themselves, and succeeded. Now with a decent field, a sizeable fanbase in one of Chromatika's main cities in a District, and with the understanding of what they've accomplished, this is a modicum of what a small town team could become.

"It's an honor. I never thought I'd get the call, you know. Columbia City has been good. Tumbra has been good for me, and it's time to reap the awards. Playing with the players like Jacob, Grayson, Cierra, Theodore, Derron, Barrion, Amélie, Edith, Baillaire, and Ignace... It was good to cut loose and get some playing time. Srednjaci isn't a pushover, you know. We played pretty well together - Jacob is a decent Keeper and Amélie is fun to play alongside. All the credit to the Fillar sisters, though - they were on top of it today and why we wont the game."

2. Who do you look up to on the squad?

"There are a lot of great personalities on the squad, but I'm partial to Kateryna Zuniga. She's the consummate professional, while knowing how to take a back seat as needed. She's easygoing, knows how to lead by example, and loves to help others grow. She's really taken us younger Defensive Midfielders under her wing. Sure, Enigma might be the absolute leader figure in the locker room, but Kateryna is part of what makes the team tick."

3. What's the hardest part about being on the Anomalies?

"Honestly, the pressure. It's what makes playing fun, but it's also what makes things tough. Everyone is looking at us to win most of our matches and get to either South Newlandia or Tikariot, and then to the Round of Sixteen at least. Don't get me wrong - I know it's an honour to just be here - but I sometimes hope that the pressure wasn't as intense. Not that I would take this opportunity back for anything, but it can get to be a lot at times."

4. Who is the best player not on the roster in your position, and why?

"Leysa Burns, and it isn't even close. Sure, she was on the roster once and then fell out, but she's a natural, she's worth millions in the Red League, and have you seen what she's doing in Wirr Tsi? Burns is the type of player who will give 110% of herself on every tackle and not complain a single bit while also get along with her teammates. I understand the positions are stacked, and it'd be hard to figure out who to remove, but Leysa absolutely deserves a chance.

5. A question from a fan: What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
"Vanilla. Fruity stuff grosses me out, and chocolate is too sweet. Give me a good old-fashioned vanilla with nothing added - that's the best and anyone who knows ice cream knows it. "

No one expected anything from the Eramanians when they step onto the field to play the Squornshelan Remnant States on the opening match of the 89th World Cup qualifiers at the Daulapura Stadium. Every one of the 40,000 Eraman fans in the stadium knows that the Squornshelan Remnant States is the clear favorite for the match. In fact, some of the crowds just came to the stadium to witness the greatness of the likes of Iuri Takala and Lyzolda Petrov in the black and reds.

Who would have thought, Samara Grawira, who has never played a single minute of international football before the match would go on to score the winning goal in an unexpected 2-1 win over the 26th ranked country in the world. Even the 28 years old right-winger cannot believe it himself.

"Somebody pinch me," he said after the match.

The Malkan-born Samara has spent his entire career with his hometown club, Malkan FC. Malkan FC is just a mid-table club in Liga Eraman. They had never mounted a serious challenge for the title, often outcompeted financially by the other clubs. But Samara remained loyal. There was interest from other clubs but he choose to continue to lead his local club.

Playing for a small club, Samara was overlooked by all the previous national team head coaches in favor of the Saputra twins of Anara and Royal Daulapura's Perda Nasar. But with the international retirement of the Saputra twins and the lack of playing time for Perda Nasar who lost his place in the Royal Daulapura starting eleven to Wikra Petara, Samara was finally selected for the national team by the national team head coach, Ross Hearkener.

Samara is a decent player. He is the leader and the main goalscoring threat for Malkan. But he is nowhere near the level of Wikra Petara who received his training at the Centre of Excellence in Apox or Era Hitam who trained at the oil-rich Royal Daulapura academy from a young age. Samara became good on his own playing on the streets of the small town of Malkan. But in front of 40,000 capacity packed stadium and millions more at home, he outshone both Wikra and Era on the opening match of the 89th World Cup qualifiers against the Squornshelan Remnant States.

His drive and eagerness to prove himself made him a constant threat for the Squornshelan Remnant States. He worked hard for 90 minutes, running on defenders with the ball on his feet, running behind defenders making space for himself to create passing options for his teammates as well as tracking back to help the defense. He ran non-stop. His biggest moment in life finally came in the 66th minute when the scoreline was tied at 1-1. He scored the winning goal after managing to create some space for himself with a cut inside from the right flank before releasing a shot with his left foot for the top corner. A beautiful goal for the debutant. Something that Samara will talk about until his deathbed.

The win made every Eramanians happy. Some even dared to dream of reaching the World Cup after the win. But it's still too early as they face another tough opponent in their upcoming match, Huayramarca, who on paper is better than the Eraman side. Can this new team continue to get the win? Huayramarca at Arupura Stadium next.

Beauty of Life: Chapter 1

Dhairon hated what people said about him, and he was tired of pretending he didn't.

He resolved to proving himself through his performances, but even so would they be enough to change people's opinions of him? Time would speak for itself, while he spoke through his abilities with the ball.

At times he would wonder what drew him to football in the first place. Was it the feeling of being able to play around with a ball on his feet? Or maybe he like the adrenaline rush trying to score. Then again, he was one who liked to humiliate others. It was probably a mix of all three.

If Dhairon wasn't thinking about football and the toxicity surrounding it, his mind would be totally immersed in a world of his own. As childish as it may sound, daydreaming about his own perfect abode was the only respite he had from this world. Of course, he didn't mention this to others. The last thing he wanted anyone to think of him was him being a child, and he wasn't gonna relegate himself to that status.

His unapproachability was a factor in him not having much relations with others. He'd been described as snarky and reclusive. Dhairon wanted to change that, but his emotions usually got the better of him when socialising with others. Once he was called a "cliche emo teenboy" by one of the least impressionable people on campus. That did hurt him a bit, which is why he tries to come off as a quiet but cheery person nowadays. Even in the face of insults from random internet nobodies, he wasn't gonna let them faze him. He was going to keep up his positive and determined personality he'd tricked everyone to be, but even so his facade wasn't gonna last forever.

Even during training, Dhairon didn't enjoy the company of his other teammates. They were simply too insufferable for him to bear. He tried to smile and laugh through the bad jokes, but that usually ended in him having sore cheeks. Of course, he could try to socialise a bit, but he was blasted for being 'patronising' by the reserve goalkeeper. As if he of all people could question a regular starter.

Dhairon didn't know where he was going wrong, but whatever he was doing was not putting on a good impression on anyone. At that point he'd given up completely and became a social hermit. He was going to remain so for the rest of his life. If the Twicist gods were real, he'd be able to live eternally in a golden paradise for him only. If they didn't, well... he'd probably either be reincarnated or just disappear off the face of the planet. Either worked for him. He did expect for no one to approach him anyway.

What he didn't expect, however, was a knock on the hostel door during what seemed like midnight. Dhairon opened the door reluctantly. Who was to disturb him at such a late hour? Turns out that person was Hugo.

"Hi Dhai, how's your night going? I thought it would be courteous of myself to pay you a visit," he said cheerfully. Dhairon wanted to die inside. What was he of all people doing here? Being the addict he was, one would more likely see Hugo in a casino if anything.

"I'm doing fine, thank you. Also please stop calling me Dhai," Dhairon forced a half-assed smile on his face.

"You're doing fine? Like fine fine, or great fine? Besides, have you watched the latest instalment of my sister's film yet?" Hugo's sister was a well-known film director in the nation. That only fueled Hugo's popularity even more. The fact that he was talking to Dhairon, out of the whole squad, alone was all the more surprising.

They chatted for a while. Talked about their hobbies, and the latest gossip regarding the manager's wife. While this was all unfolding, Dhairon grew more relaxed and comfortable. He hadn't felt this calm while holding a conversation. It went on for a while longer, when Hugo question Dhairon about having anyone to talk to.

"Are you seriously that lonely?" Hugo asked. His voice had a tinge of both surprise and sarcasm. Dhairon had previously said that he hadn't bothered to reach out to anyone.

"You know, you're missing out on a lot." Hugo quipped, "You should join us at the hotel bar tomorrow night." Dhairon didn't know who the 'us' referred to, but he wasn't in the mood to decline his offer anyway.

Before he knew it, Dhairon entered the hotal bar the next night. To his surprise, the bar was quite calm. The clanging of cups on the ground, lively chatter, and the arduous, annoying t-pop music playing through the speakers were the only sounds heard in there.

"Huh, I thought there would be hookers and a lot more weird interactions," Dhairon thought. Hugo spotted him and gestured to come his direction. There weren't as many people as Dhairon thought there would be. It was mostly a handful of first-team starters. Still, Dhairon chose to sit a table further than anyone else. It was a habit he acquired during high school. At first, Hugo and co didn't really mind about Dhairon isolating himself from everyone else, but after a while Hugo told him to come over. Seeing as sitting around doing nothing wouldn't be very fun or worthwhile, he went over. The group was talking about something relating to the latest motorsports news, before the direction changed to gaming. Dhairon tried to speak out but his voice was drowned out by the sheer busyness of the bar. Still, it made him feel better he wasn't the only one who played Kasekai Impact.

The other thing they talked about was their love life. Most of them already were engaged, and those who weren't probably had one secretly. When asked about his significant other, Dhairon merely shrugged and said, "She might come, she might not." The group laughed it off as self-deprecating humour. Though, Dhairon still felt that having someone to cover the lonely void in his heart.

He drank two shots that night. Dhairon wasn't a fan of alcohol, but he still drank anyway. After a while, the group dispersed. Hugo and Dhairon were the last to leave.

"Hey, Dhai," Hugo called out, "Would you kind staying?" Dhairon did as asked.

"So, what was your experience today?" Hugo questioned curiously. Dhairon merely tilted his head.

"Hmm... you definitely should be more open to others," Hugo told him with a tone of wisdom.

(Dhairon also heard him mutter, "I wished he had become drunk and gone wild. That would be fun.")

"Well, what are you suggesting?" Dhairon asked, "Ask me to come more often?" Hugo went into deep thought. After a while, he wore a nefarious grin. Dhairon regretted what he'd said.

"You know, you have a knack for not being able to socialise. Mind if I changed that for you?" He offered. Dhairon was taken aback. A contract?

"Basically, everyday up till the end if the World Cup, I invite you to a socialising event so you'll be more open to others. If you eventually become a social butterfly, good for you. If you feel uncomfortable in the process you can just cancel this deal," Hugo persuaded. He seemed genuine in his offer, and that was the most baffling part for Dhairon. Why was he trying to do this to him out of all people? This felt like it was ripped off a fanfiction work. Still, Dhairon thought that opening up was better than staying locked in his room.

"Sure," Dhairon said. Pleased, Hugo smiled and told him, "Alright. Tomorrow we meet at the boulevard." Then he swiftly left.

Back at the hostel, Dhairon was still considering what Hugo said. Was it worth it? Yes, but Dhairon didn't feel he had the confidence to do much. Nevertheless, it was a done deal, and besides he could cancel it anytime.

Dhairon then opened up a teen novel his younger sister had gifted him during his absence from home. 100 Ways to Fall in Love. It was yet another teenage girl romance novella. Seriously, who liked that shit? He threw the book over his shoulder. He lay in bed, thinking about Hugo's promise.

Become a social butterfly in merely a few months? You have a deal.

First win in the books ahead of home opener
Scott McCrae
The Daily Mail Chief Soccer Writer

The Commonwealth National Team got off to a positive start in World Cup 89 Qualifying, defeating Xanneria 2-1 in Dominica City behind goals from Marcus Nolan and DeAngelo Simmons, and now prepare for their first home fixture of the tournament against Baptism of Fire 75 champions Eshialand at the BBP National Stadium.

Jen Prescott fielded what is probably the BPNT's most experienced side in Xanneria, and the lineup proved their overall superiority against the Maroons, controlling over 60% of the possession through the match and having the advantage in most of the other statistics as well.

The Eshians will face their second away match against a top 25 side to begin the campaign, as they earned a hard fought point at Jereselem on matchday 1, a result they would certainly like to repeat in their first appearance in Baker Park; the BP boss says it will incumbent upon her side to assert themselves early in front of the home supporter.

"We want to get things cranked up early to keep the energy of the crowd high, to establish a good tempo to work with. Nic (D'Amico) and Kel (Buxton) have been rather quite rude about their desire to play together in the center of the park, so we'll give them a look."

Following the home opener, the squad will travel to AO neighbors The Jovannic, who sit atop the Group 17 table after their 4-2 win over CAFA Cup champs Aut-Ves-Nat, where Prescott is expected to field another completely different lineup in order to get the returning senior players a match under their belts early; none of the younger group that played in the Jenna Raven Cup and the AOCAF have been named in the match squad for any of the first three contests.

The Eshialand match will mark the only time in the first half of qualifying that the team will play in Belle Haven, the return fixture against The Jovannic marking the next scheduled appearance at the BBP; Shirley, Southend, Newport and Springfield will be hosts of the next four home dates, with Collins Park the only other venue slated.

Chapter 2.1

Postby Pemecutan » Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:09 am

CHAPTER 2.1

The view at the front of PFA headquarter is very crowded this morning. Several official cars have in and out from the building entrance as they are dropping the top officers of the association. Reporters are also flocking the front ground as they are reporting live to the audience. Behind the close door, the situation is not different. Everyone seems to be busy for the meeting preparation. At the waiting room, all 3 presidents of the regional associations have arrived. Includes with them are the 4 directors of the local associations. These local associations are under the GRFA (Giri Regional Football Association) respectively.

A man in his early 30 rushing out to the head office where the President of PFA is currently waiting for the big meeting. He compose himself and manage his breathing. He can't be present in front of the President like a man who just running in marathon. He knock lightly and a gentle voice answer from behind the door.
"Sorry to bother you, Sir. But the others are waiting," he say calmly.
"Oh they're arrived already?" ask the President
The man nodded. "Invite them to the arranged meeting room. I'll be there shortly," he added.
Yes, Sir."
The young man closed the door behind him and rushing to the meeting room to inform the other guests.
"I'm wondering what's will it be again for now," says an middle age man who just enter the meeting room. He is Pande Putu Arthajaya, the President of GRFA.
The other are just shrug themselves as they are also don't have any clue about it. The PFA have been very secretive lately.
"Maybe it is something about the youth league. The President have mention about it after our U-18 World Cup participation," President of KRAF, Ngurah Agung Karangdawa speak his mind.
"Let's just wait," suggest Aksabani Gudamang, President of SIRFA.

They are all taking their place at the oval table in the center of the meeting room. Only one chair that still left empty. There, the President of PFA, Pande Suryajaya will be seated. After waiting for about 5 minutes, the door of the meeting room is opened again.
Sorry for the long wait," says Pande Suryajaya as he walk into the meeting room. "Have a seat." He paused as everyone take their seat and the meeting room door is closed again. Inside the room, Pande Suryajaya is seating at one end of the oval table. On his right is the President GRFA continue with the Director of local associations of Tambangan, Kauripan and Jimbarwana to the far right. On his left side are the President of KRAF and SIRFA together with Director of Ulunusa local associations. Pande is glad that everyone can join in today's meeting.

"First of all, I'm sorry for the sudden call of all of you for today's meeting. I understand that it come in a short notice. The second, welcome to the meeting. Our first meeting of the new season. And the last is, let's begin our meeting," opened Pande Surjaya.
"I'm sorry to cut you, Sir. But what is actually this meeting is for?" ask Arthajaya who is looking so curious.
Suryajaya smile lightly. "It's about the future."

The Secret Meeting

"I can't believe he wants to do that," say Arthajaya in an angry tone.

He and all 4 directors under GRFA are having a small meeting after the internal meeting with PFA President. Arthajaya seems angry with the President decision who wants to disband GRFA and make the 4 local associations as the regional on par with KRAF and SIRFA.

"I think that's a right decision," comment Ngakan Suryawan, Director of Ulunusa Local Football Association.
Everyone turn their head to him.
"Are you out of your mind? That will decrease Giri's supremacy," says Agung Darma, Director of Tambangan Local Football Association.
"But it seems unfair for the others. We are consists of 5 states including the capital while the others are only 1 state," argue Ngakan.
"It is the legacy that we have to defend. GRFA is the first between them all. And the association is from a former sovereign state that make Pemecutan, how can we disband it and forget about it all of a sudden?" defend Arthayasa.
"Well, it is based on our decision, right? Just like the President said earlier. He gives us the plan and the decision is on us because it will affect all of us," say Syarief Maladi, Director of Jimbarwana Local Football Association.

Everyone nodded in understanding. Only Nengah Suwitra, Director of Kauripan Local Football Association that keep silent during the talks. His head is full of 'what if'. From what he see, the GRFA has split in half and the last decision will always on his part.
The sun has lean to the west in the capital. The meeting has been postpone after no decision have been made by GRFA President over the dissolved of the association. Pande Suryajaya seems disappointing. He already understand something happen inside that regional association and his plan to dissolved it is a way to solved the situation. But apparently, that also have to be put on hold. At a simple restaurant in the western part of Tegeh Kori District, Aksabani Gudamang treat his friend Karangdewa for a dinner. Both of them have become close after last year incident where Soracana Islands abruptly entered Melayu Archipelago Cup despite already being annexed by Pemecutan. The situation led to PFA complain and Soracanian team being banned to fly to Choudal, the host at the time. And ended with SIFA (Soracana Islands Football Association) change into SIRFA (Soracana Islands Regional Football Association).

"It's good to see you again. It's been quite a while," opened Gudamang as he seeping his wine.
"Yeah, and it seems that you gain weight," joke Karangdewa which makes both of them laugh. "Hard day ahead I guess," added Karangdewa.
"Yeah, not too much really. Just setting up the second tier. I'll sent mass e-mail to all the manager so they can prepare themselves," explain Gudamang.
"It's good. And your decision to change the league name is also great," praise Karangdewa as he eat the chicken steak.
"You think so?" ask Gudamang. Karangdewa nodded his head in assuring. Gudamang laugh lightly, "I'm just copying our National League by using our official language. Isa is One or First in Kacara and Rua is Two or Second. So it's simple but have a cultural and local background that we must preserve."
"Wish I can do that for Kanginani league too. Surya Utama is not catchy at all," Karangdewa wondering. Gudamang just laugh at his friend.
"But it is a legacy name. I think you should preserve it," suggest Gudamang. He take a local salad dish for his dinner tonight.
"But what will you suggest if I ever have to create a second league? The second tier," ask Karangdewa.
Gudamang pause for sometimes. He is trying to find a catchy name. Karangdewa just looking at him, waiting for his reply while enjoying his food.
"Hhmm. You're right. No clue for the second league," Gudamang give up.
"See. I told you," both of them laughing again.

"Speaking about legacy. What do you think about the meeting today? Surya is very bold to ask that," ask Gudamang.
"To be honest, I'm sided with Surya this time," say Karangdewa. Gudamang looking at him with a questioning look. "Well, I do understand about Artha's excuse but it's not something that we can keep in a long term. The country have change. Giri Federation is no longer here. And he still wants that? All I'm seeing is he wants to keep it just to make Tambangan have a control over something," explain Karangdewa.
"Wow, I've never see it that way," shock Gudamang.
"You do realize that Tambangan and Ulunusa are rival, right?" ask Karangdewa.
"Sort of," answer Gudamang. "I just not realize that the rivalry is rooting everywhere."
"Well, yeah it is everywhere. Inside the GRFA, the rivalry between Tambangani and Ulunusan clubs can be easily seen. Campuhan and Ubung. Now Titih and Ubung. And most of the clubs in Kasa League is from Tambangan," explain Karangdewa.
"I think so. 6 clubs, right?" say Gudamang. Karangdewa nodded in agreement. "And the number's not change this season," add Gudamang.
"Yes, only Kauripan and Jimbarwana that are changing," answer Karangdewa.
"But how can it make Tambangan controlled them?" Gudamang express his confusion.
Karangdewa exhale deeply. "From the establishment of PFA, GRFA and KRAF, most of the President of GRFA are coming from Tambangan. And you do remember about the match fixing incident in the 90's right? Pesepur Pemecutan Puri, Pesjem Jematang and Peskep Kepaon were relegated because of that."
"Are you saying that they might do the same thing again?" Gudamang cut Karangdewa.
"Not like that. The incident happened during the reign of several Tambangani Presidents and only being caught after Rian Laksana become President. He is from Ulunusa," explain Karangdewa.
"So if GRFA still exist then Tambangan can do anything to still on top position?" Gudamang try to make conclusion.
"Exactly! And Surya is trying to prevent that by dissolving them. But he need the confirmation from GRFA President and the 4 local directors which is very tricky," says Karangdewa.
"Why?" Gudamang getting more confuse.
"GRFA is unofficially divided. The one that sided Tambangan and the one that sided Ulunusa. And at this time, Tambangan is in lead. They will have votes from both Kauripan and the President Arthajaya which is a Tambangani. 3 against 2 and Tambangan can retain GRFA intact," explain Karangdewa.
"This situation is getting more complicated that I thought," shrug Gudamang.

They are continue to enjoying their meal. No more serious talks about the associations. They just let it all for tomorrow. Besides they still have to make decision for the youth league.
Pemecutan Puri, the capital of Pemecutan, can be say as the city that never sleep. Even the nightlife is very lively. In the corner of the city, a single bar that quite crowded even though it is not a weekend, Nengah Suwitra is seating there. His hand is holding a half empty glass of beer. It is his fourth glass already and it seems that he doesn't want to stop yet. After the internal meeting with his fellow coworkers, he feels the burden arise on him. If ever the vote happen to decide about the dissolution, then it is his vote that matter. Agung Darma will be one the side of President Arthajaya. They will never wants the dissolution. While Maladi and Ngakan Suryawan will team up to vote for the dissolution. This is their chance to be able to control their own league and clubs. Then the last decision is on him. To be honest, he really wants to support the dissolution as it will make him able to focus on Kauripan alone. And Kauripan Local Football Association will be at the same level with KRAF and SIRFA. Isn't that is what it is supposed to be? They are all states after all. Then what's the point to have GRFA which only consist of 4 states in Giri Island? Suwitra ruffling his hair in frustration. If he vote for dissolution then he will lost financial support from Tambangan. All this time, Kauripan depend on the other states in GRFA to maintain their clubs as the cities are not rich enough to do it. Even the already established clubs like Pesedal Dalung and Pesekerob Kerobokan are still in need of financial support from GRFA to run their clubs. This situation is really frustrate him.

Nengah Suwitra finished his 6th glass. He is already drunk. As he walks away from the bar counter, he bumped with some men and ended losing his consciousness. As the men leave him laying on the floor, a waitress help him to stand up. She call for the security for help her held Suwitra. Both of them take him to the back room and let him rest there.

THE EMPIRE TIMES

Eagles In Control Against Torisakia

Luke Cousins scored twice as the Eagles registered their first win of the qualifiers in front of a home crowd against a disappointing Torisakia. The result puts the team on a good step towards World Cup qualification even if the result was expected it was no more than the hosts deserved as Samuel Foranna's side delivered a fine performance for his first international match Dominant throughout, they rarely looked like relinquishing their lead once Luke Cousins had opened the scoring at the Stadium Bloumany. Cousins, superbly set the Eagles on their way, curling a left-foot effort into the bottom corner after being sent clear bby John Millers'' quick free-kick. The Jollipville Athletic forward doubled West Ham's lead after the break, prodding in from close range after a Luke Codle effort had come back off the post. Lincoln Zilva made it three with a header that flicked from Rhys Lornet's corner, and Codle's stoppage time header added the gloss to a fine victory despite a lapse in judgement from James Bushmaster that led to an own goal after a back pass went wrong.

It was clear from the opening moments that the Eagles had set themselves up with intention to attack, Codle, Zilva, Nathanial Launzel and Liam Peach all impressed working in or coming off wide positions and Cousins physical presence and pace provided another type of outlet up front. The 32yo in his 5th qualifying campaign was a menace throughout and was tellingly the reason why he scored the first two goals to ensure the domination turned into a result. Foranna who was clearly delighted would've been ecstatic had both Peach and Zilva had both converted good chances from close range and is the perfect way to start a campaign to for the Eagles to get into a World Cup for the first time since World Cup 75.

While Torisakia enjoyed possession for moments of the game they simply lacked the speed of thought and foot to trouble the hosts. In many ways Astride Wallace's attempt summed up the game for the visitors as his shot lacked the power and conviction to beat Bushmaster. Had that gone int would've been all square for the visitors after being outplayed. The briefly rallied during the second half but were still unable to put anything of note towards the goal. In fact it was Bushmaster who had to open the scoring for the visitors after a disastrous mis-kick from a back pass from William Dressen saw the ball come off his foot wrong and went flying into the net in the 75th minute.

Speaking after his first match Foranna praised the players for their performance but warned that there was still a lot of work and a lot of games still ahead "It was pleasing to see but one win doesn't win qualification and the team must look to keep this form throughout the campaign". The team will next travel to Garbelia for the second match and will be looking to keep up the momentum

Nephara 3 - 0 Martune
(4-3-3) 1 - Provost; 2 - Stride, 5 - Clevinger, 22 - Bruhn, 3 - Lind; 7 - Koerner, 4 - Timekeeper, 8 - Cromwell (16 - Brand 81'); 13 - Reed, 21 - Basilisk (10 - Lovelace 68'), 11 - Considine (19 - Belgrade 68')
Goals: Koerner 25', Cromwell 39', Reed 49'

There were a few immutable facts about qualifying. To wit:
1) Any win was a good win.
2) Things will go wrong. Better now than later.
3) 'Experimentation' is for university orientation parties. Train first, then use qualifiers as a proving ground.
4) Amokachi's Ratio: to be worth twice the ego, a player must have three times the skill.
5) Bold tactics that pay off will give a small edge; bold tactics that don't work will cripple the team.
6) If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
7a) No, there isn't enough time to train.
7b) No, they aren't too good to drop from the team.
9) It's natural to celebrate your rivals' defeats.
10) Ninety minutes in isolation don't matter, until they do.

Qualification was a fatalistic business. Accepting this was the reason Nephara was so consistent in achieving it. However, sometimes, everything just went... right.

Okay, so a home fixture against the ninth seeds was precisely the kind of match you'd hope to go right, or even to go... right, but (see Fact 1) you couldn't sneer at it regardless. The 'sure thing' was a myth provided by hindsight, where rather by definition everything was indeed sure.
Nephara were now - were long since - one of the marquee names in the sport. The upcoming World Cup finals would be their 50th year in WCC competition, and already they were one of perhaps the 15, 20 most successful nations in history. Teams saw the green and black and perhaps gave pause... and if you paused in turn, trying to bask in the pause they'd give you, you'd get punched in the teeth because every one of those opponents wanted to go home and tell their kids they won in Sabrefell.
(The fact that the stadium was in Corvistone was immaterial.)
Ramsey put out a team she'd be happy to take to a World Cup Final. They had a new plan, but she needed her first-choices to try it under the pressure of qualification, against opponents who might give them that extra second of respect that, say, Tumbra at home would not. Better to make the mistakes now...
Rovena Stride passed to Anselm Koerner without looking. Clever move, except Koerner wasn't where Stride expected. A Martune forward was, driving inside with pace and power... overcome by glory. The shot came out from far too wide, an easy catch for Provost. But the visitors had the first shot on target of the game.
Ramsey watched, and waited. Fortunately, the Cormorants would have the next and only nine.
Basilisk and Considine came close, before combining to set up Koerner to stroke home the opener, a cool sidefoot from the edge of the box. Stride atoned by setting up former club teammate Cromwell to drive home the second with a high cross that looped over the centre-halves and onto his boot. Basilisk had the ball in the net on the verge of half-time, but was released ever so slightly too late, her goal offside; little matter, though, because by the time Severine Reed drove home the third the game was pretty much a procession.
And it looked easy, from the couches at home. They didn't capture the preparation, the determination, the pressure of the targets on their back. Being a Cormorant was never easy.
Tumbra away loomed.

Part One

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR SENTIENT

Part Two

Avondale, Sylestone

After being told that they would not be going to Kirkham that day, or indeed, any time in the immediate future, Brett could not even look at his father. The young boy completely shunned him, doing his best to not look at his sorry face at all. The sting of betrayal hurt like all hell, and his dreams of going to Kirkham, the city of Sentients, were further away than faraway places such as Rushmore or Atlantian Oceania. As he sat down on a school bench for lunch, he could only do his best to wipe away the tears forming in his eyes.

Brett’s father sat behind his computer, playing around with spreadsheets and trying to look like he actually knew what he was doing. He worked for a solar panel company based in Kirkham itself, and was mainly part of a team that created new ideas to out-do their competitors. None of his ideas, nor any of his team’s, had made it far, but he could always hold onto hope.

But today would not be the day. After breaking the news to Brett that they would not, in fact, be travelling to Kirkham, the young boy could not even look at him. He knew that the news stung for Brett, and the poor boy could not even look at him as he prepared for school. But no matter how much thought Brett’s father gave it, there was no way out of this. He would just have to wait for Brett to forget about it.

As Brett walked home from school, the young boy could not wait to confront his father about his betrayal. He had his speech planned out, which was mainly composed of yelling at the top of his voice, while using the occasional swear word that he isn’t allowed to use at school, such as “idiot” or even as bad as “crap”. But as he neared his house at 420 Doyourrostersontimeoryoulllose Street, another, better idea came to his mind. Quickly, he tore off a page from his maths book in his bag and scribbled down a note on it. It read:

I AM GIONG TO KIRKHAM. CACTH ME IF YOU CAN

Sneaking past the house so his father couldn’t see him, Brett stuck the note on the letterbox, knowing his father would collect the letters once he had arrived home. While he did understand that this may hamper his chances of making it to Kirkham, it was a risk worth taking. It would not be effective, otherwise.

Brett’s father peered out the window, down the Sarcav-Jones’ long driveway for what must have been the millionth time that afternoon. He checked his watch once again to ensure he wasn’t seeing things, but no. Like always, he had come home from work at 3pm to ensure he was back by the time Brett returned from school, at four o’clock. Now, the time was 4:30pm, and Brett’s father was beginning to worry. Taking one last look out the window, he started down the driveway, with a plan in his mind to make it all the way to school and ask what had been done with his son.

But Brett’s father would only make it to the letterbox. Just as he was about to turn up Doyourrostersontimeoryoulllose Street towards Brett’s school, Edgeworth Primary, at 1093 Seventy-Seventh Boulevard, he noticed a little slip of paper flapping in front of his letterbox, if only out of the corner of his eye. Intrigued, the man wandered back over to his letterbox and held the note up to his face. As he read it, his face paled. So that was where Brett was…

“Shit.”

That night, Brett lay down amongst the bushes in a local park to throw his father off, knowing that the older man knew where he was headed in order to get out of the city. Besides the Sentient Objects of Kirkham, one of Brett’s pet loves was trains and as a result, knew of every single station and its location along his local line. That night, he planned his escape to precision, refusing to overlook any minor details that his young brain could identify. The hardest bit came next, but once he was on the train and out of the city, he knew nothing could stop him.

In order to evade his father and whoever else was searching for him, Brett would move two stops along to what he calls his ‘favourite’ train station - Margaret City. Here, he should be able to catch the train to the city without confronting anyone out there looking for him, where a train to Kirkham should be waiting for him if the timetable he is reading is correct. It all seemed so easy….

The next day, Brett found himself walking along Ten-ninety-three Road, where Margaret City Station would be located just a kilometre away on the very same road. Just as he thought he was going to make it, an elderly woman with a walking stick peered down at him on her morning walk and began speaking to the young boy.

“Where are your mother and father, little boy?”, she asked in a croaky voice.

Brett was lost for words. He wasn’t expecting this. “Um… ah… yeah. Vey towd me to wait for vem just up here.” He pointed down a side street.

“Do you want me to walk you there?”

“No, my pawents don’t wike me wawking wiv stwangers.”

To Brett’s relief, the elderly lady appeared to accept this and continued to wander down the road, while Brett hurried on, occasionally looking back to ensure he wasn’t being followed. As he neared the train station, Brett noticed two police officers standing, minding their own business, only taking a glance at the young boy as he took the stairs to the platform, two at a time. He was here.

It was time to go to Kirkham.

Brett caught the next train, arriving at the platform just seven minutes after he had. As he hopped on, Brett realised something - this was the first time he had taken the train completely alone, despite having crossed the city on multiple buses at times. But in the excitement of it all, he did not notice the two police officers walking into the carriage behind him, whispering into the phone. A phone to Brett’s father.

Brett’s father smiled as he hung up the phone to the two police officers, knowing everything was all well and good. He was so concerned when no police officers located anything by morning, but here he was. Grinning from ear to ear, Brett’s father walked onto platform 7, where he knew the train would pull in in roughly 20 minutes. This was it.

Brett watched the window as the train pulled into the interchange and spied the train to southern Sylestone and ultimately, Kirkham, in the station over, only minutes away from pulling out. He would have to hurry if he did not want to wait around for another six hours for the evening train. His mind was in such a frenzy, though, that he missed an important detail in the road of him and the Kirkham train.

As the train doors opened, Brett was the first to run out, in a beeline for the the train on the opposite platform.

But he never got there.

He could only make it a couple of metres.

He emitted a groan as he planted his body directly into his father’s open arms.

The Turnip: Norp is dead. Long live the Norp.
by Billiam Maskey, chief-editor-in-chief

It was a meteoric rise in spectacular popularity for Norpentology, a cult that promised to revolutionise the way the multiverse worshipped sport by banning ripperonin, but now it's had an equally spectacular fall.

As many people know, Norpentologists believe in the God of Norp, who is a galactic overlord who around one hundred years to seventy-five million years ago ruled a confederation of multiverses. It is a galactic overlord that likes eating apples with cheez whiz and calls the Turnip the dastardly purple nut magazine of doom. It also wants to defenestrate ripperonin into the suns so that people can enjoy the fruits of their labour without putting in any labour.

The history of the Norp started all the way back in Ye Old Times of just several months ago when the Central Antarctic Peninsula, who seemed to have a whole island instead of any one peninsula on its flag, suddenly surfaced from the skies. Indeed, such was the sudden velocity of its introduction, people said, "Yo, that's CAP," a funny bit of wordplay if there ever was one. But things got serious, just like how one can suddenly find themselves with a shovel in hand after their friend who was driving the car accidentally hit a road wombat and it's only right to give it a proper burial, and the CAP people created the Norp World Cup.

And just like an algal bloom, this Norp nonsense kept spreading. There was a Norp American Football World Cup which barely made it to the starting line after ten teams flew to Indiana Controlled Florida with their multi-coloured kits only to be told that there was to be no competition due to the God called Mod locking the doors to the stadiums. The Norpentologists even had plans for a second Norp World Cup, designed to test the adherent's willingness to put up with yet another tournament with no meaning, but fortunately no one went through with that idea because to play in a tournament with no meaning is akin to spray painting nipples on a statue of Simeone Di Bradini -- just what is even the point?

The multiverse can rest easy now that the Norp trend is finally coming to an end....

Or is it?

With the Proper And Totally Real World Cup Qualification Tournament in full swing, there have been reports that there are many Norp Nations that have appeared. They are characterised by the distinct lack of information coming from their shores, never sending journalists, and never telling us their players names! Imagine that! It would never happen in RLstates, which is a fictional forum, but yet we see this happen in this real life, the reality we are living in right now, the reality I am writing this article. We all have free agency and yet sometimes we don't even know the names of the players of the other team! It really makes you think. Even though we're such a totally cool country, these Norp nations don't want to talk to us. Instead, they are just ready to upset us with their Simeone-Di-Bradini-nipple-spray-painting ways. The multiverse must do what is necessary to crush these Norp Nations by any means necessary, even if it means getting our sponges out and cleaning off Simeone Di Bradini's nipples.

Postby Trolleborg » Tue Sep 14, 2021 4:21 am

Greetings, compatriots! It’s TTV from 1st December Arena, right from the sidelines of the field, where game between Trolleborg and Pratapgadh just ended. The circumstances that accompanied the first encounter of these teams a year ago at the Indian Cup, of course, imposed certain obligations on our players. Usually lads are not given a chance to replay games they lost in regional tournaments, but this time it was such a rare opportunity. However, this apparently did a bad job. Pratapgadh, as many expected, played defensively, giving the initiative and the center of the field to our players. But our footballers were in such a hurry to realize the opportunities provided by this, and this was not good for the cause, as in the episode in the 7th minute, when the Troll made an excellent pass forward, cutting off all the defenders, but Berglund was too nervous, did not cope with the ball and missed the opportunity to open the score

Image

Or the moment in the 20th minute, when, after a quick attack of our guys, Halst was given chance to shot from dangerous position, but although he did everything right, his shooting was not as good as he could

Image

Finally, in the 27th minute, the attack of our team seemed to be drowned out, but Groningen, whose presence few expected in the squad at such a match, did his favorite thing: he robbed an opponent in the center of the field. Further, our defensive midfielder, however, did not act as usual - instead of the cautious advance and pass as usually expected from him, he moved much further and more decisively than as a rule he did, goes forward brawely, and made a pass directly into the penalty area. From the stands we even double-checked whether it was he or the Troll, or maybe they exchanged T-shirts. Berglund this time coped with his nerves and shot into the far corner - not brilliantly, but nevertheless scoring a goal.

Image

Almost immediately the guests had a real chance to even score, when after a corner Groningen somehow hesitated in the penalty area and did not have time to prevent a mighty shot from a long distance, but our goalkeeper coped with it

Image

In the second half, our lads definitely had chances to score more and more, but alas, everything usually went the same way as in this episode: a well-conceived combination ended with an unsuccessful weak shot or something like that

Image

So the match ended with a score of 1:0, and on the one hand it pleases because this is a victory, but, on the other hand, leaves many questions. If the team will be so nervous in every game, wasting real scoring opportunities, then the chances of getting to the World Cup should be put under a big question mark.

THE ROZELLE OBSERVER
Fallon searches for consistency and damage control
Annette Brisbane

Sienna Fallon would like you to know she's doing her best.

We know this because she seems to mention it in every press conference. Some managers would find it gauche to cast blame on circumstances, albeit circumstances nobody denies are questionable. The Patriots have been flying economy class, put up at mediocre hotels - in one notable case, a youth hostel - and are on the whole victim to an aggressive tightening of belts.

The talent reservoir is also... not what it once was. Brenecia should still make the World Cup with ease - their defence is particularly solid, anchored either end by the RCU stars Wright and Schofield - but goals have been a serious issue. They scored one goal last World Cup, that in a 3-1 defeat to Nephara, and their failure to score against Burgburgh saw them crash out of the Campionato Esportiva at the quarterfinals.

It's little surprise, then, to have seen Fallon shake everything up. Not that there haven't been green shoots, most notably a 3-0 win over South Newlandia. In that 90 minutes, the Patriots played perfectly and, crucially, seemed to have moved on from the talismanic Lauren Cheney. Cheney had been the best Brenecian player in a generation, crowbarred into the side up front or in attacking midfield, anywhere that could get her on the ball. The rather less heralded Fortune Russell, Kendra Carpenter and Danand Tristram picked up the slack against the Elephants. Pity it was that chastening defeat to Burgburgh which followed.

The side which Fallon picked against Moliza has a different, rather more physical look. Carpenter and Russell started, performing well, Carpenter in particular not shaking under the weight of the number seven and going from strength to strength in Chromatika. A goal for Mhacha White, who has seemingly occupied the number nine shirt for decades without ever truly making it her own, was also a welcome capstone to a typically energetic, selfless performance... in which she, typically, could have converted two or three. Wilson made a couple of sharp saves, but White could have done better to find the corners.

While the defence was solid as ever - Brenecia are blessed with an excellent back line, including two fringe world-class rightbacks - it was the midfield which looked the most different. The experienced Schofield and Caitiff were complemented by the muscular, athletic Consaidin Garrard, who capped off an authoritative debut with a goal of his own, dispossessing Terrell Cisneros, playing a deft one-two with Roscommon on the edge of the box, having the option to cut back to White but instead going it alone, whipping a sure strike past Wilson's near post.

It was a decisive and comfortable win over Jarred Kantis' charges, though the visitors rallied admirably in the closing stages and could have had a goal of their own were it not for Wright holding her nerve to deny Blundell one-on-one. Brenecia looked sharp. The system worked. And after the game, not even Fallon could complain.

Content Notice: In this RP, Luka Hazaluta goes to see a therapist and touches on his mental health. If you're not into reading that sort of thing, feel free to skip this one.
A small, pokey building in Treason, Nephara

Luka Hazaluta climbed the thin, carpeted steps that met him as the door opened before him. A banister rail, a dark wood affixed with brass, held him steady as he climbed. Up with a flash, he turned to the right, the overcast light of the corridor shining in from a single window at the end, that Luka noticed had been dressed at the sill with a single, slightly wilting orange tulip, which contrasted with the olive of the walls around him. In a nook in the corridor, on the side closest to him, sat a receptionist, on a chair behind a small desk made of the same dark wood. The contents of the desk were immaculate - a gold and black pen, sat neatly in a pen stand, two leather books, one facing Luka and the other turned upside down, relative to him, and a neat desk tidy full of various leaflets and placards.

"Can I help you?" the receptionist asked, his voice placid and calm, but his demeanour analytical, like some sort of practicing doctor.

"Hi. I've got an appointment - under Hazaluta?" Luka asked, rubbing his forearms together.

"You're a bit early for Dr. Rinehart, I'm afraid. She won't be longer than five minutes. You can take a seat in the hall if you wish." The receptionist produced a clipboard and span a pen around in his slender fingers before clicking it three times in rapid succession. "Your first appointment with us, isn't it? If we could just get this from you, it shouldn't take more than five minutes, and then Dr. Rinehart will wave you in."

Luka gingerly grabbed the clipboard and the pen, and sat down on one of three wooden chairs in the hall. The thin pleather cushioning of the chair was slightly threadbare and tattered, but it didn't matter too much to Luka as his eyes analysed the form, and he began to fill in his personal details.

Approximately six and a half minutes later, a figure emerged from a door further down the hall. The person, eyes blinkered in front of them, walked down the corridor past Luka, nearly brushing his brogues, and took a sharp left and barrelled down the stairs before the receptionist could get a word in. Luka looked towards the door, but it was already shut.

Handing the form back to the receptionist, the receptionist smiled tepidly at Luka. "You can go in now, it's the third room on your left, okay?"

Luka took a steady pace down the corridor, and raised a hand to turn the brass knob of the dark wood door. He caught his reflection in the long plaque that was displayed at eye level on the opaque door.

Dr. Shandra Rinehart
Licensed Mental Health Professional

Luka took a deep breath in and turned the knob. Inside was a fairly pokey room, with a large bookshelf on the left, a sofa-type thing to the right, a small desk forward with a blinded window behind it, and a chair in the centre of the room. He entered, and closed the door.

"Hi Luka, hope you're well," called a voice from the other side of the desk. Sat in the chair was a middle-aged woman, with black, shoulder length hair and some dazzling earrings. "I'm Dr. Rinehart, but you can call me Shandra. Take a seat wherever you like. There's a coat hook to your left."

Well, I can't sit in her chair, can I? Or on top of the book case? Luka chuckled internally to himself, hung his coat on the hook, and took at seat in the chair opposite the desk. He wondered if his choice of chair meant anything.

"So, Luka," Dr. Rinehart pulled out a Yellow Legalite Pad and took the cap off of a similar pen to the one he'd seen on the reception desk. "We spoke on the phone, and so, I've got a vague idea of what we want to go through today, but could you please do me a favour, and just-" she jumbled her hands a bit, like the world's worst concertina player. "-explain why you're here in your own words, if you can."

Luka took a deep breath and began. "I was undertaking some sort of media thing for the national football team in Mertagne. I'm a footballer, I don't know if I mentioned that."

"Be as verbose or as blunt as you like. I'll ask you if I need further clarification."

"Alright. I'm a footballer, I come from Mertagne, and I'm lucky enough to be currently called to the national football team. The World Cup qualifiers are kind of happening now, as I'm sure you know, and I was asked to do some kind of media piece for television. They asked me a bunch of questions, they were a bit rude actually, and then they just asked a question about my past..."

A pause. Luka put his head in his hands, locked his elbows against his knees, and drew his head up past his palms.

"They asked me about if there's one person who made me the person I am today, and I had a bit of a breakdown answering it. I think I fainted? Not sure. It was really hot, blinding lights, and just... I didn't want to be there. And I didn't want to tell them the story, you know? They don't need to know. Nobody needs to know." Luka sighed.

"I see." said Dr. Rinehart, jotting down a few notes. "I can understand why you felt pressured to share in a high-octane media environment. But you're right, you don't have to tell anyone what happened there. However, sometimes saying things in a safe space can help people get through them, understand them a little better. Do you know what I mean?"

"I do, and that's..." Luka gulped. "That's why I want to be here. That's why I booked on. I can't keep carrying this stuff around, you know? Running away from the past, if you'll pardon the pun."

"What's the pun, sorry? I don't really get it." asked Dr. Rinehart.

"Oh. Of course. I'm a bit known among my friends and colleagues for being quite fast? I used to enjoy doing track events. I went to a sports school. We had a big running track around the football pitch. Over time I guess I just fell into football, you know? Not that I don't love football, and I'm grateful to be here, but I think in a life with other opportunities, I would have become a sprinter."

"I see. And why do you think you didn't have those opportunities?" Dr. Rinehart scribbled some more.

Luka pondered. "How much do you know about the Insulation?"

"Sadly, as much as anyone outside of your country knows, which is frighteningly little. I am aware of how it happened, and correct me if I'm wrong - years ago your Mertagnian government collapsed. There was a power vacuum, and in the interest of not causing a war, neighbouring nations such as Starblaydia and Krytenia chose not to get involved in a military capacity, instead ensuring that aid and goods could be... traded around, to make sure that people still had enough to eat, and stuff. The knock on effect of this is that corporations, distributors, and the like, suddenly had a large increase in power, and filled that vacuum. Your country got divided amongst them, and they kind of ran the show for several years, with rather punitive migration laws."

"That's the long and short of it from the outside, yes. It was a bit different depending on where you were, but essentially there was a breakdown in public services. Everything was privatised over the course of about three months, according to my dad. You couldn't move for advertising. People's world, previously international, shrunk smaller and smaller until you only really cared about your family, your town at most. I grew up when it had kind of settled. People were born into company families, and the intention was you then worked for those companies, as you got employee benefits. I had a good family. Child labour wasn't a thing as such, but there were plenty of jobs for kids to do that were seen as worthwhile. I could run, and so I was a courier from the age of 9 for a company called Hakkam Pharmecuticals. I delivered prescriptions from the factory just outside of town to the local pharmacy, and then from the pharmacy to people's houses. It was a good job, compared to those that some of my friends had to do. People... people died."

"That's... That sounds like a very tricky time for you and for the people of Mertagne." said Dr. Rinehart, calmly.

Luka stared out of the window, eyeing the overcast weather that was on the edge of rain. "It was. It wasn't fair. A lot of people tried to save enough to get out. Because you could get out, it was certainly possible, nobody was locking the door, as it were. It was just tough to walk down the corridor, if you know what I mean."

"Absolutely. Family can sometimes keep us in one place, for example. You mentioned you had a good family. Who is in that family?"

Luka itched the back of his neck. "Standard nuclear family, if a little large. Mother. Father. Siblings."

"Are you the oldest?"

"... No. I'm the youngest. I... I have, had, whatever, two siblings. Two brothers. One's way older, but I had a twin." Luke said, curling himself up in a ball in the chair. "He died when I was younger. It was very sad and we don't tend to talk about it much."

"Well, hopefully that's something we can work on over the next few weeks and months. It's not something we have to talk about now, if you're not comfortable to. I'm really interested to hear about the rest of your family, to start with, as that will really help me build up a picture. Do you want to tell me about them?"

Luka instantly became a bit looser, a bit more animated. "Sure. So, like I said, I've got my mother, my father, and my older brother..."
The beige door opened outwards as Luka stepped out from the bottom of the stairs and onto the streets of Treason. His hour in the doctor's office had felt like much longer, but in the same sense, it had felt like no time at all. He clutched the small card with the details of his next appointment in his hand, penned perfectly by the astute and precise receptionist that told him to "have a nice rest of the afternoon" as Luka graced past his desk. Running his thumb against his palm with the card in between, he pocketed the card and began to walk down the street.
The start of something new, I suppose.

The Grearish Union 0-1 Adab
Yargab (78’)

NEWS | WORLD CUP 89 QUALIFIERS

Victory over Grearish Union marks good start to qualifiers

Adab’s campaign to qualify for World Cup 89 got off to an initially lackluster, but eventually winning start as Enlilbani Yargab produced the only goal of the match against hosts the Grearish Union with a celebrated tap-in in the 78th minute.

Although the Adab under-21 and under-18 teams had stunned the football world by reaching the final of their respective age groups’ World Cups, Adab senior national team manager Saad Kaykali cautioned against making bold predictions for his side. “We’ll do our best, we’ll perform to our highest standard, and we’ll see how far we can go,” he said before the match.

“The Grearish Union are not a side to be underestimated and we will unleash everything we have to beat them.”

In a vote of confidence in his youth teams, Kaykali had named several members of the under-21 and under-18 teams as substitutes In the senior team to play the role of backup for the starting squad.

Adab entered the match ranked 139th, with the Grearish Union 34 places above them at 105th, and indeed at the start of the match the disparity in rank was in full display. Though the Adabians went on the attack from the beginning, applying a high-pressing game to break their opponents’ defense and tear them apart, the Grearish players more than held their own. Enlilbani Yargab broke past the Grearish defenders and made an attempt at the goal from inside the penalty box in the 9th minute, but the Grearish keeper’s timely leap enabled him to easily deflect the ball.

The Adabians saw another chance slip away in the 23rd minute, as Jushur al-Kufa’s corner kick instead found a wall of Grearish players in the penalty box. Rebekah Yissakar, waiting for the ball inside the box, found herself blocked by the onrushing Grearish players, with Yargab, Alulim Sinmuballit, and Emma Arthur all isolated from each other in a display of masterful Grearish defense and disastrous Adabian positioning, denting their attack when they had come so close to the net.

As the first half drew to its close, frustration grew in the Adabian camp, with the usually unflappable manager Kaykali shouting and wildly gesturing at his players, exhorting them to “play as a team” and continue pressing. Assistant managers Inimabakesh al-Tikriti and Rashid Abbas – the latter fresh off his stunning run as under-21 manager – joined in the shouts as the Grearish squad became increasingly confident, showing speed and teamwork as they drove the Adabians back to their half of the pitch.

A contributing factor to the lethargic play was the surprising lack of coordination between the powerful midfield duo of Sinmuballit and Arthur, who spent much of the first half apart from each other, each seemingly conducting their own, independent, and sometimes conflicting response to the Grearish players. The third central midfielder, the aging but still capable Ephraim Orlev, was forced to pace back and forth across the width of the pitch, bearing the brunt of the Grearish offensive.

The managers’ discontent reached its peak in the 44th minute, as a daring Grearish long ball from well beyond the center circle in their own part of the pitch shot all the way to Adab’s penalty box, visibly catching Sinmuballit, Arthur off-guard. As the surging Grearish players and their retreating opponents raced to intercept the ball, Adab keeper Mohammed Marramzi caught hold of the ball, only to inexplicably let it slip away towards the fast approaching Grearish forwards. Marramzi leapt forward and threw himself on the ball right on the penalty box line, with Grearish shoes barely two feet away from his head. He had saved the ball, but also left a dangerously open goal which could easily have been exploited had a lesser keeper been in his place.

Kaykali reserved his greatest anger for Sinmuballit and Arthur, who had let the ball slip away far too many times; as both teams went down the tunnel at half-time, spectators closest to the pitch reported hearing Kaykali tell the duo, “I don’t know what’s going on with you lot but if this continues I will not hesitate to have both of you substituted.”

But the only actual substitution in the match would not involve them; coming into the second half, Kaykali chose to rest the hardworking, and visibly weary, Orlev. In his place he brought out Salman al-Muntar, the 33-year-old veteran of Adab’s famous World Cup 81 squad, playing his first match for the national team in fifteen years.

As for why Sinmuballit and Arthur ended up staying the entire length of the match, the answer was that the Adabians actually showed a remarkable improvement in the second half. Perhaps realizing how much they had burdened Orlev, and not wanting to do the same to al-Muntar, they finally began working in close coordination. The Grearish momentum would not last; the players appeared to have overextended themselves in trying to counter the Adabians, and from around the 50th minute onwards the Adabians were finally able to resume their high press game. This time it would produce greater success.

The Adabians showed renewed vigor, increasingly dominating possession and running circles around their opponents. The ball, which for many painful minutes in the first half were tossed around the pitch by the Grearish players away from their hapless opponents, now flowed freely from the Adab defenders to the midfielders to the forwards. Al-Kufa once again nearly put a number greater than zero on the scoreline in the 72nd minute, running down the wing with the ball that had been passed to him by Sinmuballit from the center of the pitch, past a series of Grearish players who had been misled by Sinmuballit’s theatrics into thinking he would pass to Yargab, and dangerously deep into the penalty box. The Grearish players charging from behind distracted al-Kufa when he was so close to the goal line and stopped him from scoring, forcing him to make an escape and shoot the ball behind to al-Muntar, but it was clearly now only a matter of time before the Adabians scored.

That moment came in the 78th minute. With the Grearish players tiring and unable to take the ball from her, Yissakar danced along the penalty box line before firing the ball towards the net. It went straight to the Grearish keeper, who prepared to greet the ball, but the ball hit and bounced off his chest so quickly that he was unable to actually grasp it. The ball deflected to his right, where several Grearish and Adabian players were cautiously eyeing and guarding each other… except for Enlilbani Yargab, who had charged forward in anticipation before Yissakar had even fired the ball. The Grearish keeper stumbled and fell on his side as he rushed after the ball, and he could do nothing but watch with grass-level view as the 35-year-old forward went up beside him and launched the ball into the empty net.

And that was it. The Adabians were well and truly back in the game, with their opponents unable to offer an effective response as the jittery Adabian fans in the venue made themselves known, erupting in raucous cheers and singalongs. From the sidelines, Saad Kaykali and his assistants jumped in joy and hugged each other; they knew the match was saved.

Though the Grearish players would continue to attack, they were unable to break through the Adab defense until the final whistle. And when that whistle was blown, the cheers from the away team’s fans only increased in volume, their noise and enthusiasm far larger than their actual number in the venue. This was the Adab team that everyone had come to know and admire; Taymour Frangieh and his fellow defenders with their impenetrable wall of defense that had confounded so many opponents, Alulim Sinmuballit and Emma Arthur controlling their midfield kingdom, and a relentless, attacking style of play that, no matter how hard the match had been, eventually delivered victory.

All of these were celebrated by the fans, but none were more celebrated than Adab’s greatest-ever player, whose goals had saved his club and his national team from defeat many times, whose 35 years seemed to have done little to diminish his skill or his larger-than-life presence. Long after both teams had departed the pitch, and even as they themselves were exiting the stadium, the away fans continued to cheer and sing and shout in full force:

And winning it all

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.
