Pierre Sep Tonh stood on the sideline as he watched his team work towards clinching their playoff spot in the World Cup. They were playing Otksarin, the hosts of this WC, and the home crowd was rather angry at how the match was going right now.
There was a bench available, but he chose to keep standing. He had never thought he could be standing here at this moment, even just a few short days ago. He dangerously let his thoughts wander...

He had been one of those so-called ‘Pioneers of modern day sepak takraw’ in Dao Chonh, coming up as a young player. As with many things in his home archipelago, even sport was politicized. There were those sports that were native to the islands and their Wishtonian neighbors, and those that felt forced - imported by the Gaulic overlords who still claimed the tropic islands for themselves.

Dao Chonh, or Dachine as the Gauls insisted on calling the islands, was one of their last colonial claims going into the 21st Century (although it was more politically correct to call it a protected territory than colony these days.) Hence, the cultural struggle had become more intense as the Gauls pressed, then pulled back, over and over. They were well aware of the reverse psychological effect their pushing had on the native islanders, but they just couldn’t help themselves.

Football had seen popularity in waves, mainly because of its success in the developing world rather than its touted spot at the top of the Western elite nations pyramid of sports. But it was sepak takraw that held the imagination of the Dao Chongese, more than anything.

When they joined the LSST, they had felt that they stood a chance of having a good showing, but those hopes were dashed pretty quickly. The pride sport of Dao Chonh didn’t make them automatic champions in the greater ST community. They were shockingly outclassed by a lot of nations, most of them in the Melayu Archipelago.

Then the first STWC of the newly established STIC was held in Squidroidia. It was another blow to them at how poorly the Kromochom Rooscheet Sepak Takraw Dao Chonh performed on the world stage. A lot of angry words were exchanged, and admonishments given, but true to Dao Chongese culture, no one was sacked. Redemption was a closely held virtue, and Coach Sep Tonh and his team must have another shot to prove they were serious champions.

They were the cream of the crop after all. The best that the Dao Chongese leagues had to offer gathered on one All-Star team. If they had no hope, what future did sepak takraw have in the islands?

The pressure had been intense on Pierre, as well as some of the players. Even his Franco-Gaulic given name was questioned. Why didn’t he change it like a lot of the Dao Chongese patriots had done? Was he just another Gaulic lackey?

Pierre didn’t much care about the cultural origins of his name. What mattered to him was that it was passed down from his grandfather, and he wasn’t about to dishonor his family in that way, after he already felt he had in his lackluster coaching during their international debut. He said as much in press conferences to the naysayers. They needed to support the players, not rip down the team for such trivial matters as who carried what name.

Like everything, that fell to the wayside as strife in the islands became more intense as the people bucked at Gaulic colonial rule. Dao Chonh was a tinderbox, more than it had been during several protestations and rebellions in the past. Gaul was fighting on other fronts in Wishtonia against the spread of Marxism and the evil operations of the ISVC. They had been clear that they would come down fiercely on the resistance leadership should they be challenged during their ‘peacekeeping efforts’ elsewhere.

More than anything, the Dao Chongese needed a win, or at least a damn good showing, to give the people something to hope for other than the blood of their foreign rulers.
For that, the Coach was thankful. Even if they couldn’t scrape their way into the finals, they had given the people something else positive to talk about and take their mind off the anger and hate.

Herbert Deng hammered the final 21st point home in this second match, kicking it under the arm of Topher Reinhold and through to the court below for the 7th unanswered point. The Coach clenched his fist in victory, then called them in for one last talk before the final tie-breaking match. They had more than hope on their side, they had fire.

Sepak Takraw World Cup II
Group B/ MD5::
Lathamford 15 21 21
Squidroidia 21 15 17

The fourth game of the national team against Squidroidia, the fourth-place winner of the 1st SEPAK TAKRAW WORLD CUP. Another difficult match faced by the national sepak takraw team in this tournament. Against a team of caliber like Squidroidia makes the national players a little nervous, this proved that they are easy to beat with 15-21, after struggling after falling behind 9-17. By the second set, Tumbang Aji made a drastic overhaul by including tekong Tommy Duncan and killer Boris Lorilov. Aji’s tactical paid off by successfully starting the second set with 9-2, and then 12-7, subsequently winning the second set 21-15 and successfully dragging the match to the extra set. In the third set, our players did not wait long to immediately launch attack after attack and managed to reach the figure of 11-8 to switch courts. Squidroidia chased and managed to reach 13-15, but our team's strong combination won the third set with 21-17.

Although we have managed to Qualify for Ro16 before this match, the spirit of the players is commendable, they play as if they have not been confirmed qualified, as much as possible, they do not want to lose even once. But the challenge of head coach Aji, which is to want all matches to be won with straight sets still they can not fulfill, they beat Felinetopia with three sets, as well as when beating Squidroidia, straight-set victory only they got when beating Rulapanga and Sharktail. As Tumbang Aji said, "winning a match of three sets is like a draw, if only two sets are called winning"

Knockout Stages Bracket Generation Process

A standard seeded bracket can be found here. With this as basis, we can generate what we need for the tournament.

The group champions will be seeded 1-6. The same tiebreakers will be used, which is, Wins, followed by regu Difference (PD) and then Coin Flip.
# Gp Team Pld W L PF PA PD
1 F1 Oakwood Landing 4 4 0 8 1 +7
2 C1 Tanah Jaya 4 4 0 8 1 +7
3 B1 Lathamford 4 4 0 8 2 +6
4 E1 Southern Palm Islands 4 4 0 8 2 +6
5 A1 Dachine 4 4 0 8 2 +6
6 D1 Kriegiersien 4 3 1 7 3 +4

A coin flip was used to determine the exact order of the teams. OOCly, this took the form of a series of scorinated matches between the teams. Oakwood Landing is placed ahead of Tanah Jaya. Lathamford is placed ahead of Southern Palm Islands, and then, ahead of Dachine. Kriegiersien is placed in 6th, since they have 3 wins.

By the standard seeding brackets, seeds 1, 4 and 5 will be placed on one side, and 2, 3 and 6 on the other. So it would be Group A, E and F in side 1; group B, C, D in side 2. The runners-up of these groups will be ranked based on their sides. For side 1, the teams will be seeded 7, 10 and 11 respectively; for side 2, the teams will be seeded 8, 9 and 12 respectively based on the standard seeded bracket.
Side 1
# Gp Team Pld W L PF PA PD
1 F2 Hebitaka 4 3 1 6 2 +4
2 E2 Pemecutan 4 3 1 7 4 +3
3 A2 Acastanha 4 3 1 6 4 +2

Side 2
# Gp Team Pld W L PF PA PD
1 D2 Britonisea 4 3 1 6 3 +3
2 B2 Rulapanga 4 3 1 6 3 +3
3 C2 The Jovannic 4 3 1 6 5 +1
A coin flip was used to determine the order between Britonisea and Rulapanga. OOCly, this took the form of a series of scorinated matches between the teams, where Britonisea came out ahead.

At this point, we see how the brackets are looking right now:
Image

Ranking of 3rd placed teams
# Gp Team Pld W L PF PA PD
1 D3 Eraman 4 3 1 6 3 +3 13 & 15

3 E3 Qasden 4 2 2 5 5 0 14 & 16
4 B3 Sharktail 4 2 2 4 6 −2 13 & 15
We will just assign the teams to avoid a group-stage rematch before the semifinals, and they will be placed in the highest position possible. Eraman will be placed in seed 13. Qasden will be placed in seed 14. Sharktail in seed 15. And then, Otksarin in seed 16.

“The World Champions against the Winners of the Club Champions Cup, the Bandar Ketam Iron Claws from Acastanha. What a match! In the first play-off round”, Stan was thrilled, while reading a local newspaper.

“We never played against them, we lost in the quarters against some team from Tanah Jaya“, said Carina, while stitching on costume.

“Doesn’t matter. It is a duel of giants, and as that we will sell it.”

“Great, then sell it”, said Puu, who was content with his costume and put another jacket on to wander out of the door.

“Where are you going?”

“I will further experience the country of Otksarin.”

“You mean its restaurants and food?”

“Exactly.”

“But I prepared a press conference. And you have to train…”

“You can go to the press conference, you are good in that. And we trained so much at home. Now I want to see what these nation has to offer. Culinary.”

“You did this all the time already.”

“And I don’t intend to stop, before I have widened my lesson here”, Puu bowed down and left the hotel room.

“And we are going to look what Alor Hango has to offer”, said Carina and stood up.

“The shopping mile, I guess.”

“Not only. But maybe that, too. There is so much more to see of this country and we now want to see that, as long as we can. We did good until now, we deserve to hear a bit more about Otksarin beside how their indoor Arenas look and talking to someone else than the referees”, said Corina.

“Learn about the religion. There is none in Kriegiersien”, said Carina.

“So you leave me alone?”, Stan sighed.

“We leave you to do what you can do best. Building up our reputation.”

Ro16, Lathamford is scheduled against Qasden, at the Alor Hangor Indoor Sports Hall. The TakVans earned two wins and two defeats while in Group E, with one straight-set win when beating Sendhang 21-14, 21-13 and one three-set wins when beating Juvencus, 21-17, 19-21, 21-12. The trio pairing of Rinaldio Marvinglodge, Bogos Binted, and Jim Ofdaweek is definitely will give a fierce opposition to our squad. Rumor has it that the main killer, Marc Kent suffered a serious injury and may not be brought down for the remainder of the next match, fortunately, our young killer Aslac Draper is also no less impressive. When contacted, the national head coach, Tumbang Aji declined to comment further. Rumors also say the Blewbury Bison are willing to provide high funds to lure Aslac Draper from the Holyrock Hornet to play with them next season, Hornet Manager Lex Folberg denied the news, but nothing could happen in the future. Good luck to the national sepak takraw team.

Round of 16 Preview: The Jovannic Vs Dachine

After victories over Delaclava and Sannyamathland secured second place in Group C for The Jovannic, just behind Tanah Jaya, who won all their matches, we now face Group A winner Dachine in the round of 16. They are 17th in the world. They dispatched 8th ranked
Acastanha in straight sets, as well as coming back from one set down to beat hosts Otksarin. Dachine definitely has great defensive abilities and can overwhelm us if we are not careful, like against Brookstation or Acastanha, for example.

There will be no change to the starting lineup, Barong Kuwada said yesterday. "They have been performing wonderfully these pass few games. I am confident in the trio's abilities."

In other news, The Jovannic defeated Aus-Ves-Nat In WCQ, while Tanah Jaya will face Sharktail in the Sepak Tekraw Round of 16.

All Hail The Jovannic!

After beating the defending champion, Krigiersien in the opening match, Eraman went on to win the next two group matches against Berdeng Bundok and HUElavia to confirm their place in the knockout stage before losing to Britonisea in the final match of the group. Eraman finished third in the group behind Kriegiersien and Britonisea who all recorded 3 wins and a defeat.

Their opponent in the Round of 16 is the winner of Group E, Southern Palm Islands, Eraman's southern neighbor. Southern Palm Islands won all 4 of their group matches which include Pemecutan, Qasden, Juvencus, and Sendhang. Southern Palm Islands who fielded the trio of Karuo Taoshi, Asin Haliwaya, and Satyadev Agarwal have been amazing throughout the competition so far.

The fact that Southern Palm Islands and Eraman shared a long history together made the match more important. The two were part of the ancient Sripala kingdom and have been competing in every possible way for centuries after the fall of the Sripala kingdom. Who will triumph in the battle of Melayu Archipelago's number 1 traditional sport, sepak takraw? Eraman will again rely on Baba Wira and Ngah Budi prowess to win the match. The winner of the match will face either Dachine or The Jovannic in the quarter-final.

Part 3

Stories about The Gothanita Isles
Chapter 1: North-South divide
Part 4

Otksarin's role in dividing the Jeoleri-Handoria nation goes a really long way. By now, with a little bit of hindsight, there is some sense in the entire story, but at that point in time, nobody could imagine that as the outcome of development. Maybe it was because of the differences in level of education. Maybe it was because of the slant in the development between both nations. Maybe it is because of the cultural differences between both nations.

In South Jeolerina, the people were very excited to sharing the information with each other. The people of every village in South Jeolerina is located close to each other, and seeing the opportunity to improve communications with each other really excited the people. The village chiefs believed that diversifying the knowledge among the entire population is important, and given that the Jeoleri island is much smaller than the Handorian island, different groups of people was tasked to do different things. The job scope was split across the various villages. For instance, when the Otksars taught the people how to harness energy to power engines, every village volunteered 1-2 people so that they could go back to their respective villagers to teach the skill. Same for hunting. Same for improving fishing. Same for boat building. You get the trend. So when the Jeoleri island improved, it improved as an island. Every village was up to similar standards as other villages.

North Handoria had a different approach to this issue. The village chiefs, and some of their family members, were the members that had high levels of communications with the Otksarin leaders. Otksarin provided them with the finances, taught them about how to establish command and control. At first, they were thinking about how to incorporate every village's opinions into the overall leadership. The were focused on making sure they know the different skills, before they could teach it to their village members. That led to the situation of being "jack of all trades", which meant that the Handorians didn't pick up the skills earlier.

When they started to realise that the Jeoleris were developing faster than them, the blame game started. At first, they advocated for learning from the Jeoleris the various ways. However, the ideological differences soon popped out. South Jeolerina wanted to develop a system of universal education and universal suffrage. People could voice their opinions on how the country should be governed, and every single Jeoleri's opinion will be taken into account. Of course, when contradictions occur, a majority support is necessary to resolve this conflicts. They had mini-town hall sessions which were working. That wasn't working in North Handoria, simply because levels of education there had a huge disparity. And as such, disagreements started to show. 1 country, 2 systems of governance. Even some Handorian leaders grew suspicious of the Jeoleris, afraid that they were here to overthrow and set up their government, when clearly North Handoria is the bigger nation. Otksarin looked at the situation with much fear. They were worried that the nation was going to split into two, which does not help their position either. What they proposed, however, was a compromise solution that got eyebrows raised.

Ro16 Cutoff

Every matchday, we will provide some prompts together with the cutoff message. These prompts are used as a guide, and will not result in any benefits should you choose to RP based on these prompts.
For Round of 16: Let us do some world building. Name a particular event in your country's history that will never be forgotten. For good or for bad. If you were to name a timeline of your country's development, this timeline will not be complete with this event. What happened to your country? How did this event begin? How did it end? Were there any key players in this event/part of history? You can also share any relevant details about this event in your history.

MD1: Sepak Takraw is not a common sport in many countries. How did your country start to play it? How does it weigh up as compared to football and volleyball, which is the 2 most common comparisons to the sport?
MD2: Recognition. For every sportsman in the multiverse, one concern that they have is that they are not being recognised in a similar way as compared to other sports. For instance, in some countries, individual events like swimming and athletics get way more funding than team sports. In some countries, the population may prefer football to gridiron, or vice versa (since that is the most common point of contention everywhere). Does the players of Sepak Takraw face issues of recognition? Does your players have very strong views about Sepak Takraw and its recognition in the multiverse? Do they question why it is not an Olympic Sport?
MD3: This cutoff is sponsored by Goingdeep, the official drink sponsor of the STWC. Every country has some products they may be proud of. For instance, Oakwood Landing has their very own isotonic drink, which is used by their athletes and sportsman to refresh themselves after a competition match. How about your country? Are there any home grown products which you are proud of?
MD4: Skyway.com, one of our sponsors, presents you with this cutoff's prompt. Could you share more about your nation? Is there a particular tourist spot that everyone should be looking out for and going to? What should visitors do when visiting your country?
MD5: For 14 teams, this will be the end of the road for them in this competitions. But to everyone, this point is a stage of reflection. How has the past 4 games been for the team? How did they enjoy their time in Otksarin? (This prompt is looking for a variety of things - reflections on the team's performance, reflections on the hosting thus far, commenting about the country, etc. Of course, keep it IC.)

The team watched a rerun of their game against Acastanha on TV. Puu converted the match point with a perfect scissors kick from the side landing on the baseline.

„That was the best game we ever played”, said Puu, sighing and taking a sip.

„Better than the World Cup final”, Carina agreed.
„Or the match against the Powerponies in the league two years ago”, said Corina.

„I don’t remember that.“

„Yes, in future, generations will look at this match and say: That was a game changer, like the Zombiecalypse.“

„In what way? That everyone became a zombie?“

“No, that … maybe wasn’t the best metaphor.”

“When the communist took over the country?”

“And failed after a short civil war?”

“When nudity was made mandatory?”

“What the… What did that accomplish? Except chilblains?”

“When the nation relocated to Balder? Born anew?”

“Yeah. Yeah. That sounds good. The beginning of a new dawn. From now on, we will be even better. What are you drinking there? That is your.. how many bottles did you open?”, Carina looked at Puu, frowning.

“Spiker”, Puu lifted a bottle.

“Isn’t that the energy drink from Lathamford?”

“Yes, I wanted to try that. Beating the opponent with his own weapons. Tasty. There were standing around a dozen of them in my cupboard.”

“That will only grow your belly. I won’t touch that”, Carina looked disgusted.

“More for me. More energy!!! We will crush them!”

“Ok. Entrance again with laurels and toga to unite in the Olympic spirit?”

“Yes and with Spiker in your hands”, said Stan, just coming in.

“What?”

“Because I made a deal with them as sponsors. You don’t have to drink it..”

“I will”, interrupted Puu.

“..but just have one in your hand.”

“Oh, you are so corrupt”, Carina shook her head.

“Thank you.”

The city of Buttercourt in Lathamford is the city where the Buttercourt Baron professional sepak takraw team is based, under coach Bertram Scollfyld and sponsored by the country's largest chemical company, Spoonberg Chemical. At the Sepak Takraw World Cup II tournament, several Baron representatives were selected to join the national team such as tekong Rolf Reeve, and also head coach Bertram Scollfyld was chosen to be an assistant to the national head coach, Tumbang Aji. Recently the town of Buttercourt once again came to prominence when a facility known as ICRyS was built there. Previously, Spoonberg Chemical's chemical processing plant was controversial because half of Buttercourt's residents rejected its construction, but the mayor and all his committees have agreed because it will bring economic and revenue to the city.

The largest plant in the region developed solely for the purpose of absorbing carbon dioxide contained in the atmosphere is now reported to have started operations starting today. The plant located in Buttercourt, Lathamford was developed by HeavenStar International of Lathamford. It also has the support of technology giants Farrowdraft Corp., Rookfish, and several other major corporate companies. Named 'ICRyS' or 'Integrated Carbon Recycle System' in Lathamford, the plant is expected to be able to extract up to 4,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide from the air each year and convert it into rocks. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Science, Technologies & Innovation, the world will need to remove a total of 100 billion or 1 trillion tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere by the end of this century to avoid the effects of more severe global warming. Although the construction of such a plant received positive feedback from scientists and investors until now it is still unclear whether this method is the most cost-effective for removing carbon from the atmosphere for the long term.

Quarterfinals Cutoff

Every matchday, we will provide some prompts together with the cutoff message. These prompts are used as a guide, and will not result in any benefits should you choose to RP based on these prompts.
For Quarterfinals: Introduce to us some of the traditional cultural activities in your country.

Round of 16: Let us do some world building.

Sepak Takraw World Cup II
QF::
Lathamford 21 12 21
Kriegiersien 17 21 16

The defending champion, Kriegiersien, the team of choice in the tournament this time is our opponent in the Quarterfinals. They brought down their main squad, namely, Corina Wirus, Carina Wirus, Puu Panda. The history of those who worked hard to raise the sport of sepak takraw in their country should be commended because before winning the 1st Sepak Takraw World Cup, they were not looked at and their efforts did not get support. The Lathamford team, meanwhile, listed team captain John Leveson as the "tekong", Lex Forester as the feeder, and Aslac Draper as the killer. Head Coach Tumbang Aji's strategy this time is to snatch the victory in the first set by any means. The national squad started brilliantly when leading 11-6, then moved point by point up to 18-11. Aji's strategy became with the national team beating Kriegiersien 21-17 in the first set. Efforts to win this match with a straight-set seemed blurred when fatigue and mistakes became their frenzy and the Kriegiersien squad led 11-6, then they far left us with 18-9. All in all, we lost in the second set by 12-21. Young tekong Tommy Duncan was included to replace John Leveson as well as rising killer Boris Lorilov was included to replace Draper. This set of determinations is so critical in determining whether we continue to advance to the semi-finals or are ready to pack clothes to go home. The long story short, having managed to lead 11-6, then 18-13. The national team managed to deny reality by beating the defending champions in the third set with 21-16. Our journey is getting closer to the end, our opponent in the semi-finals, another team of choice, Sharktail. For the record, we have beat Sharktail 21-11, 21-18 in the group match. May success be in Lathamford's favor.

Remembering Sufferring

After gaining independence from the Englishmen from Galleana on 1922 May 1st, Southern Palm Islands have faced a lot of changes in their nation. At 13:12 PM of 1922 May 1st, the Englishmen gave the natives the control over the homeland. Governor General then, Lord Nathaniel Episqueppe stepped down from the seat of the government located in the Royal Crown Bungalow (Now known as Rumah Kerajaan) and handed over the reigns to Wisnu Dunia, the interim President of the nation. Wisnu Dunia was a well known Communist leader and member of constitutional assembly who was only present in the nation at the time of independence. The rest of the Constitutional Assembly was in Indusse, drafting the constitution. On 16th July 1922, The first general election was conducted and the Communist Party of Palm Islands (CPPI) won the election with a majority of 61 seats against their only opponent Persatuan Sosialis Palmyra (PSS) which was also a left leaning party. PSS later merged into CPPI and became a small sub party.
CPPI selected Mahadev Akiraman (Grandfather of current Prime Minister Devdatta Akiraman) as their leader (Prime Minister / Pemimpin Dunia) and his government sworn in thereafter. After the first general elections, Palm Islands has been home to vibrant democracy but, that was brought into a pause when the military couped the nation under the leadership of Lieutenant General Zaheer Kalikranjé on 16th September 1988. The Military under Zaheer renamed themselves as "Kumpulan Pemenang " and ruled the nation for 6 years until 1994 when Zaheer was killed by the democrats. Zaheer upon receiving power jailed the incumbent Prime Minister Balabandhu Basuki and his family and kept them under severe torturing until 1991. In the New Year of 1991, Zaheer ordered that Basuki and their Family should get beheaded in the public. At the day of execution, Basuki's son Majaratha Garuda fled from the jail. Basuki's murder lit the bloods of the democrats and rebellions rose in the nation. Patriotism and Support from nearby nations helped the United Democrats (Consists of Left and Right Parties) on their rebellions which happened for three years until Zaheer was killed by a Democrat Mob in Jarind. The Democrats took hold of the government and conducted election in the nation. Majaratha Garuda under the ticket of Konservatif Parti became the new prime minister of the nation.

Semifinals Cutoff

Every matchday, we will provide some prompts together with the cutoff message. These prompts are used as a guide, and will not result in any benefits should you choose to RP based on these prompts.
For Semifinals: By the time the results are up, we are 1 match away from your respective medals. Talk about the biggest events in your country's sporting history. You may talk about the subsequent reaction in the country, the celebrations, the fallout, and whatever actually happened.

Sepak Takraw World Cup II
SF::
Sharktail 21 21
Lathamford 19 17

In a press conference, the head coach of the national sepak takraw team, Tumbang Aji apologized to all fans for not being able to bring the national team to the final when they lost a straight-set to Sharktail 19-21, 17-21 in the semi-finals of Sepak Takraw World Cup II. He took full responsibility for this failure, for the record, this was the country’s first participation in the sport of sepak takraw at the international level, and reaching the semi-finals was their best record. Our players seem to be fascinated by Sharktail's attacking pattern, so it's no wonder that they are clearly confused to find a formula to withstand blow after blow as well as a service that confuses the opponents. Even while at the group stage, Lathamford had beaten them as well with a straight-set, 21-11, 21-18, but Sharktail’s semi-final version was very different from Sharktail at the group stage. The absence of experienced killer Marc Kent also hampered Aji's plans in search of victory, coupled with John Leveson's inconsistent performance adding to their recipe for the decline in the semi-finals. Lathamford is scheduled to face hosts Otksarin for third and fourth place playoffs. The match will take place at the Alor Hangor Indoor Sports Hall.
