Beaver River Lacrosse National Team

It's been a while since a lacrosse team from Beaver River competed in a World Lacrosse Championship. A time where the nation was located in Rushmore, puppetted Felines, and refered Beaverites as Beaveriverians (what a mouth full). At the time, lacrosse was a regional sport that was primarily played in the East in what is now known as Memé. In World Lacrosse Championships 24, Beaver River's last appearance, Beaver River placed 3rd in Group A which advanced them to the Round of 16. Then the lacrosse team made a huge run to the semifinals, beating Ferret Civilization and host The Sword Bloke before losing to eventual champions Mapletish and losing the third place play-off against Cosumar. However, the dysfunction of the Ministry of Sports sabotaged the chance for lacrosse to be more than a regional sport. Recently, Beaver River wanted to prove itself to the multiverse that it was back and better than ever with a joint host bid with Northwest Kalactin for the World Lacrosse Championships 38 but lost the bid to South Jeolerina. While, the bid was a failure, Beaver River still hopes to replicate their success from long ago.

You switch the channel to the Cordian Broadcasting Network to watch the news.

... and there were no survivors. Thank you, Jeff.

Jeff is wearing an orange suit and the wall behind him is cement.

Jeff: Thank you for letting me tell my story.

Host: In other news, the Cordian lacrosse team beat ranked nation Ha'Yarok in World Lacrosse Championship play today, by a score of 9-4. It was Cordia's first international sports game since the internationalization bill passed last year. Much of Cordia was ecstatic...

... the screen cuts to a video of Cordian multibillionaire John Johnson.

Johnson: Congrats to our lacrosse team on the victory! Do it for the prize money!

a voice from offscreen says something unintelligible
the scrolling news ticker says that lawsuits against Johnson, his companies, and current and former employees of Johnson's companies have surpassed one hundred.

Johnson: I don't get the prize money?

more voices

Johnson: Sorry, I need to go call my lawyer, be right back.

VO: and some were less happy...

... the screen cuts to Representative Tom Vostlund.

Vostlund: This is why I voted against internationalization. We're better than those other nations out there, and we don't need to prove it! Also, more of those filthy immigrants are going to come here now, and crime rates will go way up! I call on all my fellow representatives to repeal the internationalization bill and keep our citizens out of other nations.

the ever-present news ticker shows that Vostlund is dead last in approval ratings among representatives, with 18%, and that a petition to remove him from office already has 50,000 signatures.

... the screen cuts back to the newsroom.

Host: Of course, the happiest Cordians were the team themselves. Down 3-2 after the first half, the team clawed its way back with some incredible saves from goaltender Sofie Westby and three goals, all in the second half, from Peter Fjelde. Joining me is Coach Nils Skoglund (via video) in South Jeolerina. Welcome, Nils, and thanks for joining us.

NS: Thank you for having me.

Host: What was it like to watch your team come back after the half?

NS: I just have a lot of faith in them and to be completely honest, I just
felt like we had it in us to pull it off after the half.

Host: You face Tropicorp later today. How do you feel going into that after this game?

NS: Pretty confident, to be completely honest. I think we have one of the best teams here, and Tropicorp is coming off a drubbing from Sarzonia. However, we're taking no teams lightly, especially after seeing the score of the Beaverriver-Ranoria game.

Host: How far do you think you can go in this tournament?

NS: That's the million-dollar question, isn't it? We'll find out, but I don't want to jinx it.

Host: Alright, I know you have a team to coach, so we'll let you get to it. Good luck with Tropicorp.

NS: Thank you.

Excerpt from the Daily Cordian Sports Section, September 5th:

Probably yesterday’s most surprising game was Quebec’s upset of Cassadaigua. Quebec’s players, none of whom could be identified due to the nation’s failure to make public a roster, managed to beat the sixth-best team in the world. This makes Quebec a far more dangerous opponent than most would have thought. Another team that proved itself on the first day was Beaverriver, who crushed Ranoria by a score of 22-4, making another game that was thought to be easy look far harder. Outside of Group D, the best team in the world, Abanhfleft, lost 14-0 to HUElavia. The surprise didn’t lie in the upset, but the manner in which it occurred; the best team on the world in now at the bottom of the table of Group A. While we can rest assured that they will not stay there, this is a major jolt to those who thought the Fleftians would simply cruise to another final.

Schedule
Saturday 8/4: 9-4 W @ Ha’Yarok
Sunday 8/5: vs. Tropicorp
Monday 8/6: @ Quebec and Shingoryeo
Tuesday 8/7: vs. Ranoria
Thursday 8/9: @ Beaverriver
Friday 8/10: vs. Cassadaigua
Saturday 8/11: @ Sarzonia

Hello. Today we have an interview with Brian Brain, Defender of the Zombie Dudes and player of the Kriegiersien Lacrosse Nationalteam. Mr. Brain. Welcome.

“Thank you for having me.”

You are born and living in neighboring Zombiestan but now are playing for Kriegiersien. Why?

“Our only chance to play competitively was to play in the Kriegiersien league. And so the Zombie Dudes, my team from Zombiestan, started to play there. Afterwards it came naturally for some of us to get dual citizenship.”

You are the Star player of the team, the err.. brain and captain.

“You are flattering me. I may be the captain, but the team is the star.”

You are a Zombie but vegetarian. Is that true?

“Yes. Most of us are even vegans. That still is a problem with our compatriots, the sentient plants who were living in the region before us in what became Zombiestan when we immigrated (or invaded, as they call it) from Kriegiersien to found our own nation. But it is getting better.”

And when did you start to play Lacrosse?

“That was pretty late, I was already 212. It is now my number one sport for 15 years. We won the Kriegiersien championship once. Sadly no club from the Kriegiersien league won anything internationally until now, but we want to help the Kriegiersien team to finally win a medal.”

The professional league in Kriegiersien isn’t very old and was dominated the first years by Xvarts. But now the league and your team is very colourful and more even. Orcs, Xvarts, Humans, Zombies. Isn’t that also a problem?

“On the contrary. We have more experience and I think this gives us the possibilities to be unpredictable and to show what a team of different individuals and cultures can achieve together.”

But isn’t it a problem with the different languages and cultural difference?

“I think it must be our goal to overcome the differences. Not only for the team and success, but as society. We can be an example here.”

So you are getting along with all your teammates? No problem that the coaches are a human and a Xvart?

“It can be difficult. But no marriage is going well without any arguments. I must know, I was married 23 times. Important is to better ourselves. And then we will prevail.”

You lost your first match against Natanians and Nosts. Was that a surprise?

“Yes, we expected more from us, but we couldn’t access our full strength. I am sure that will get better the more the competition continues.”

Against Bollonich will already be another important match. Do you fear Corvinian Gervasio, their Top Attacker?

“Well, Warok (Bonecrusher) will look after him and we aren’t that bad in attacking either. I am optimistic.”

Thank you for the interview and good luck in the next game.

The Ranorian Krauts of Lacrosse are one of the most mean, violent teams you're ever going to run into. Most of the stars of this team are on the defensive end, and honestly the three starters there are the best players on the team. Hell, the top 4 guys there are likely the best 4 on the squad, so don't expect a lot of shootouts.

Anyway, as this is their first foray into international competition, they're hoping to get some love back home as a truly niche sport. We'll see how it goes!

Postby Isle Noire » Sun Sep 05, 2021 2:19 am

In the beginning, Isle Noire was like everywhere else.

There was light, there was shadow, and there was colour wherever there was light. Nothing was special about the land that Isle Noire inhabited.

Before the land was inhabited, a Wizard from a faraway land, whose name is now lost in time, decided to use the life force that was in the land to cast a spell for his needs. The purpose of the spell is also lost in time, but the amount of energy that was taken from the land turned Isle Noire to what it is today.

There is no colour in Isle Noire. Everything is in black and white, and every shade in between. Once anything enters the land, it loses colour; once anything leaves the land, it gains the colour. For things that were created in the land, the colour is determined the moment that it leaves the land. What determines the colour is also still lost in mystery.

There is a ceremony on the eighth birthday of any citizen of Isle Noire where they step outside the land's boundaries for the first time. It's an interesting ceremony, as the actual boundary of the land keeps varying day to day. What will have the field expand? What will have it shrink?

Too many mysteries remain, but life goes on for the 120,419 Isle Noireans.

Golden debut, something to not forget

''Hello there fellow people and welcome to the first international Praxedan broadcast, im joined today by former lacrosse legends Pedro Garcia and one of the very few ever female players Louise Dubois.
Welcome to the two of you, its an honour for us today to be featuring the first ever Praxedan International sports match which is in the World Lacrosse Championship in its 38th edition.''

Louise: ''Thanks it really is great to see our sport as the very first to be represented internationally, i hope Praxedes can go far as the current squad is a very passionate and solid team which we left a while ago.''

Pedro: ''Indeed i still remember playing with Vincent, Mario and Colin when i was one of the veterans already but i am sure that they will lead this team to great heights in a group where chances are ahead of us.''

Meanwhile on the field you'd see the teams coming up for some warm-up the Praxedan players being slightly distracted by the huge amount of fans and the intensity of this tournament.

''So, if we look at our group the first two opponents are also unranked teams, if we can score points against them we certainly are on a good way to our more experienced opponents in the group.
It is expected they will play an offensive and pressuring game as we used to in the league though it is interesting to see if the teams will be able to handle the constant fierce and pressured playstyle that all Praxedans pursue.''

Meanwhile on the field the teams got ready, Praxedes in Blue and black colors as they get read for the match they get together and form a circle before the start with some motivational shouts they go on the field.
As the game starts Praxedes starts a bit sheepishly not sure what to do and having a hard time finding their rhythm in the game and quickly they are 7-2 down as which was when a critical moment was.
the coach called captain mario with him and gave him a paper note, he showed that note to the other players and quickly after their entire game started to go better as they played more on the counter and using the spaces between the lines.
They came back quicky to 7-7 then 9-11 and finally ending it with 9-14 in a win which made the crowd go wild after the match ended and the Praxedan won the first match, Mario was available for a short comment

Mario: ''We played good today, we played fierce, strong and most importantly like a team like we should and our win was very deserved and if we keep up this line of preforming i can see a bright future ahead.''

I think we've still got it! The Jovannic 21-12 Isle Noire

After Kennet Diboloca's gold medal, our second ever gold medal in the Olympics, is celebrated throughout the nation, there may be further good news. The Jovannic, after a two year hiatus in all sporting events, defeated the team from Isle Noire 21-12 in their return match. It was a high scoring match, both teams getting great chances and great goals. However, The Jovannic's aggressive play style overwhelmed the Isle Noire defence. Experience was also a factor. The first and second periods were quite equal; both teams were quite awkward with the ball. The Jovannic only had a slight edge 8-6. In the third and fourth quarters however, The Jovannic began to pick up the pace, confidence increasing rapidly. A flurry of goals between the 47th and 56th minutes largely decided the match. Howard Lim was the clear MVP of the match, scoring 8 and assisting 5 goals. We will be facing Nyowani Kitara in the next match, and we will need to see some more of the old Jovannic brilliance to see through our next opposition. They may have lost the first match, but it was against Baker Park, a powerhouse in the Lacrosse game.

All Hail The Jovannic!

Starting with a strong win as challenging foes up next

Two years had passed by and our lacrosse players were back where it had started. Back contesting in the WLC and on this occasion we would be starting the tournament against Kytler Peninsulae. However just like WLC 27 we started off with a bang. The lineup starting would be the usual starting lineup with Horn, Gervasuo and Leilani all playing very important roles in their respective positions. Ottó Horn had retained captaincy and would be leading the Bandits onto the field in their first match of their second major tournament. Despite The Kytler Peninsulae being an unranked side and a side that shouldn’t be much of a thread to us, Winfield chose not to take any risks starting his best 10. Tritten would be starting in goal after missing the first game of the 37th WLC over a marijuana controversy which resulted in him having a tough time last WLC. But all that was behind the team as the team that had made their way to South Jeolerina was not only much more experienced but they were looking towards the future, towards their upcoming matches which they had to win and the first team on their path was The Kytler Peninsulae.
The Bandits started the match strongly applying pressure on the Kytler teams as passing was fluid and the midfielders were dominating the opposing midfield. Gumtka the most experienced midfielder played a ball forward to Paterson who after making it past a player passed it to Gervasio who begun this tournament the same way he had ended WLC 37. Gervasio scored our first goal in South Jeolerina as we took a slim lead. This slim lead however grew to a healthy lead as the match went on with Gervasio, Brune, Paterson and the rest of the team being on top form. The Defense had done a splendid job in keeping their forwards out and minimising the number of goals conceded by us. And by the end of the third quarter we had a strong lead 7-2. The game looked over and Bárta knew this. He made multiple substitutions bringing off crucial players to give them a rest before facing Kriegiersien in this tightly packed schedule. This decision to bring off some crucial players could be debated to be bad decision as immediately Kytler Peninsulae got back on its feet and back into the game with some quickfire goals which warranted retaliation from us. After 15 minutes of utter chaos we emerged victorious however not as comfortably as we would’ve liked winning the match 9-7.
This nonetheless was a crucial victory for us and also provided rest to most of the starting lineup before a realties tester against Kriegiersien who struggled against Natanians and Nosts as they lost 9-8 in overtime. Kriegiersien didn’t look too comfortable against Natanian and Nosts however we know that they have the quality and we will need to give it our all if we are to win.

Stories about The Gothanita Isles
Chapter 1: North-South divide

For over 100 years, North Handoria and South Jeolerina was part of a larger country. A nation, home to 2 major races of people, namely Handorians and Jeoleris, living together in a harmonious manner. However ridiculous that sounds today, it actually was something that really exists over 50 years ago. The actual story, however, was rarely brought up in both countries, following the split. In fact, the island split, moving South Jeolerina to Rushmore, while North Handoria remains in Atlantian Oceania, was rarely brought up in both countries. In the 50th anniversary of the Handoria-Jeolerina Joint Declaration, we decided to bring up this history, understanding what are the conditions back then, and then, look at something else ahead of us.

History doesn't remember the combined nation's name. The history only knows that Handorian Island and Jeolerinan Island used to be together as 1 country. It was when both countries used to be reliant on agriculture, fishing, as the main basis of sustaining the country. Who cares about politics, ideologies, when everyone is just working hard to be able to feed themselves? People are always working hard on the fields, out in the huge ocean, trying to get enough food to feed the big families that we had in the past. In fact, regardless of whether you are Handorian or Jeoler, both races and culture are relatively intermingled. The people speak the same language (till today), the people worship to the same gods, the people have the same traditions and culture. The southern side is more about the fisheries, and produces the most fisherman. The northern side is more suitable for growing food, and so, the people will need to trade with each other to get various of food.

At the start of the country history, both seems to be similar in culture and thinking. There is nobody who could point out the differences between a Jeoleri and Handorian, because both groups of people work together pretty closely on many things. But when the differences pop out off the surface, it is difficult to imagine the full impact.

MD2 Cutoff

Every matchday, we will provide some prompts together with the cutoff message. These prompts are used as a guide, and will not result in any benefits should you choose to RP based on these prompts.
For MD2, the prompt is as follows: When the country's athletes come out to play, how does the country support the players? Maybe you can share some information about the fans and how they will show their support their national team at every big tournament.
MD1: Introduce your team! Talk about your nation's history with lacrosse, domestically, internationally. Your team's targets. Introduce some of the stars of your team here in South Jeolerina.

The TV is on at the Dog and Dragon sports bar in the northern Melbergia town of Brunta. Tuned to the MSS Sports Network, footage from the latest Melbergian Premier League fixture (Brunta Harriers Vs Durgenstrom) has just finished and a number of disgruntled local patrons are finishing their drinks and starting to filter out.

As the post-match analysis comes to an end, the footage switches to the final stages of a lacrosse match.

"What's this shit?" asks one slightly inebriated punter.

"Dunno, but we're winning," replies another. "Look - sixteen goals to nine. Playing Kalactin." He seems mildly impressed.

The first gentleman grunts. He calls for the barkeeper to change the channel. Footage switches to a re-run of a classic MPL match and life continues as normal.

After the Soccer Team's Practice prior to WC 89 Qualifiers...

"Hey, you wanna go scavenging for some lacrosse balls?" Esther Simson asked Rayko Grossman as the two were leaving practice.

"Why would I want to do that?" The the now thirty four year old veteran of Ranoria's national soccer team grumbled, gratefully accepting a water bottle from a team trainer.

"You ever tried a foam roller?"

"Of course," Grossman passed the bottle back, and Simson was right on his tail, "Great for recovery."

"Well lacrosse balls are like, ten times better, and there's loads of them up at Smith Field right now."

"Our field? Why would there be lacrosse balls up there?" Simson waved him off as they entered the locker room.

"Because the national team's using our field for lacrosse, got smoked nine to twelve against Sarzonia, and these things are free."

Graf considered for a moment, stroking his evening shadow. As successful a career as he'd had, they weren't being paid that much. "These things are really all that?"

"Yup, super simple, blows a foam roller out of the water." Simson spread his arms to exaggerate, "Not surprised you didn't know about it, not being a local."

"Alright, deal, let's go."

Are you already back?”, Brian Brain looked up from his papers, surprised, shuffling them around when the door opened and Harry Gummibear came back in.

“You told me to answer the fan mail and I did”, Harry said jolly.

“That fast?”

“All two of them.”

“Oh. Well….there is surely a lot of going on in the Interweb…”

“Not really. As long as we don’t start to win some games or the Play-Offs begin, the coverage and interest at home is...limited. So how do I help you with the tactic against Banija?”
Harry looked curious at the papers on the table.

“Err, I am still analysing the team from Banija.”

“Ah, trying again to find out which player you will let hunt down by Warok?”

“Not every tactic involves getting a special player marked by another.”

“What do this arrows mean?”

“Moving patterns.”

“And what is this number?”

Brian took a deep breath.
“Look, Coach. Harry. The chieftain gave me full control to make up a tactic again that I will then introduce to him. He is doing some physical training with the team and you…”

“I am more the morale officer and for the managing. I know. I just wanted...I just want to learn something more. For the future.”

Brian scratched an undamaged part of his head.
“Ok. Ok. Look, you could really help me. I need any information about any player from Banija. Hobbies, spouses, political views… Anything you can find and more.”

“And that will help you with the tactic?”

“Maybe.”

“I am on my way.”
And Harry left bustling to go to his computer.

Brian sighed and retrieved the book from under the other papers.

“How to cook vegetableless.”

HAWTHORNS CONTINUE TO KILL GIANTS WITH BAKER PARK VICTORY FOLLOWING KOHNHEAD LOSS

DONBESTER, SOUTH JEOLERINA - Knowing full well that they had a top-heavy schedule, with the likes of Kohnhead and Baker Park directly up front before facing five teams ranked below them, if ranked at all, the Hawthorns knew that to even get a single win out of their first two matches would bode a strong sign. Yet, considering Sylestone’s apparent inability to adequately dispose of weak sides, at least one win would be pivotal to ensure their hopes of making top three remained alive.

So when the Hawthorns could not break past Kohnhead in what was a very intense clash, their hopes took a turn for the worse, as that game was tipped as the one that the Hawthorns had to come out on top of. So when they could only score a single goal across the first half hour of the game to Kohnhead’s five, everything that seemed possible to go wrong had gone wrong.

Except the defence.

The starting three of Jack McGill, Morgan Davis and Hayley Myers impressed throughout the game, continuing warding off the Kohnheadian attackers, while goalkeeper Harry Mills did his utter best to stop as many shots as possible from hitting the back of the net. Yet, being 5-1 down at half-time is far from the most positive result possible, with the Hawthorns needing a miracle to come back from this sort of deficit, especially with their opponents’ defence firing.

They won the third quarter, two goals to one, but Kohnhead held out the Sylestonean attack as they romped to a 7-4 opening win. The Hawthorns had made multiple fatal mistakes throughout the match, and it had, in the end, led to their demise. And with the fourth-best team in the world coming right up, these issues had to be fixed, and quickly. But recent history was on the Hawthorns side, and history rarely lies.

History held its word. Throughout the game against Baker Park, also held at Jisonira Lane in Donbester, the Hawthorns held it together, dominating the passage of play for the majority of the game, as their defence continued to hold strong. Yet, two mistakes to Morgan Davis allowed Tricia Vanderpool of the Commonwealth to take an early 2-0 lead before Brianna King and Justin Bungaree scored to equalise late in the first quarter. The Hawthorns then scored a whopping four goals in the second to Baker Park’s one, but the players from the Commonwealth kept their hopes alive following half-time with a 2-1 victory in the third, leaving the game on a knife’s edge with the scoreline at 7-5 Sylestone’s way with fifteen minutes to go. Could they hold on?

Baker Park had a multitude of opportunities arrayed across the first half of the quarter, but Thomas Hitchcock’s third goal of the match with six minutes to spare essentially ended the contest. Isabella Collingwood scored with exactly two minutes on the dot remaining as the Hawthorns took out a 9-5 victory to put their goal differential back into the positives. Now, with Murderbum up next, can they keep themselves from shitting the bed against yet another unranked side?

Lineup vs Murderbum @ Jisonira Lane, Donbester, South Jeolerina

"Businessman" approach defining Banijas as they fly off to a quick 2-0 start at the 38th World Lacrosse Championships
You've got to be workmanlike to win at a major international tournament- right?

SOUTH JEOLERINA- Players are talking about it in camp. A change in attitude. A change in approach. As Banijan lacrosse remains incredibly desperate to do whatever it can to get to finally win this tournament, every stone is being overturned.

"We've got to find a balance here in South Jeolerina." Coach Allen Budaye said. "This is, of course, a tournament that takes place over mutliple weeks. It's not like, say, a World Cup Qualifying window in soccer, where I just need everybody's attention for 5-7 days at a time. I need these guys totally bought in for 5-6 weeks. Now of course, we're all humans. At least, we are on this team. You're not going to get maximum intensity at all points in time, for that long a period of time. That's just impossible. You'd go brain dead. You've got to get the guys to put in their effort, and continually ramp up the intensity as you go deeper into the tournament."

The Head Coach, after the failure of losing the AOLC home final at the AOlympics to Milchama in Banija, made a number of changes. Not to the squad- the players are largely the same, only one roster change from the last WLC. "The roster is there, the players are there." Coach Budaye said. "We just need a little something extra when we get late in tournaments." So what's changing? The first, is how players will deal with their families. Previously, families stayed in the same hotel as the players for the entirety of the tournament. But this time, if Banija makes it to the QFs, at that point the team will find a new hotel.

'You can't separate a man for his family for six weeks- that's negative for the mental health of these players." Coach Budaye said. "But towards the latter stages- we shall. A week is not that long." And this year, for the first time, they are enforcing strict curfew rules on the players. "Nobody 'likes' curfew rules." Coach Budaye. "These are grown men, with wives, children, etc... But for a tournament like this, in a place like South Jeolerina, its necessary. There's plenty to do in a country like this. We used to have curfews only for game nights. But this is a business trip ultimately- we've got to make those extra sacrifices, being fresh every single day, to be ready to win a tournament like this."

The last change, of course, has paid immediate dividends. The team has been out on the front foot in their opening pair of group stage games. Blowout regulation wins have showcased a lot of what Banija is good at- tied for first so far in goals scored throughout the entire tournament, with 35 goals scored. "The team is moving the ball well, and doing a good job of taking early leads in a game and just making their opponents play permanently from behind." A TV commentator said this reviewing highlights of Banija's second WLC game. "Up 8-2 at halftime today, up 5-0 after 1 quarter on Matchday 1- it just puts opposing teams in such a tight spot, and then we're able to just build on that and take advantage of our opponent's desperation to come back. The team just looks as fresh as its ever been, and it is a big contributor to not only the explosive starts, but being able to hold onto a lead and finish the game, as opposed to wearing down."

Matchday 3 will play host to a top 10 matchup, as 3rd ranked Banija will take on 9th ranked Kriegiersien. Banija open as slight favorites, but of course- the most anticipated match of the group before the tournament is a tossup that leans Banija's way. Can Banija win the toss-up and get to 3-0? Or will they lose their perch atop the group and blow the race for the top spot wide open by upsetting Banija this early in the tournament?

BP Lax in split decision in Rushmore
by Lee Throckmorton, National Reporter

You might forgive Baker Park Head Coach Marc Ellis if he doesn't have Donbaster in his plans for any future vacations to South Jeolerina at some point after the conclusion of the the 38th World Lacrosse Championships.

The National Team made their only scheduled trip to the Jlsonira Lane stadium here on matchday 2, where they suffered their first defeat, 9-5 against a strong Sylestone team, although other results meant that the table is up in the air as all eight teams spilt the opening pair of Group C contests, with Kohnhead picking up point in their overtime loss to Murderbum putting them in first place with 4 points.

It was a stout defensive effort from the 10th ranked Hawthorns that saw them hold Baker Park to just a pair of second half goals while finishing off the match in the fourth quarter with a pair of tallies.

Ellis stressed the fact that it was not a result that surprised him that much. "We knew they're a very good side, and today they performed like the team we expected to see. The margins aren't that vast in the international game when it comes to strength of competition, just because we are four and they are ten, I don't see that as a huge gap. We didn't play poorly, but just came up against team that played better on the day."

The Commonwealth will return to Jeolerina City and the Hangshire Sports Complex to face The Jovannic on day 3, after which they will commute back and forth between the capital & Hangastan for the final four fixtures with a pair of games each at the Moose Center, the smaller of the two venues in J-City, and the Denderliani Lacrosse Park.

When asked about which teams left he was most concerned with, he didn't hesitate. "All of the them at this point. Everyone has a win and a loss, and if we just get fixated on (Kohnhead) and (The) Jovannic, one of these newcomers will come and put us in our place. We aren't so deluded that because we are ranked 4th means we are the fourth best team in this sport. What have we won? No one is afraid of us because we are consistent but have nothing to show for it. I think with the changes the (World Lacrosse) Council have made to the ranking formula we'll have a hard time remaining where were are unless we start making the semis regularly."

When the Olympians or Asgardians show up in the mortal world, people tend to notice. Especially at sporting events where Ares and Thor just HAVE to show off and make a lot of noise.

The Taxonomic gods are more subtle. You might not notice the rat sitting under the front row seats at a stadium in South Jeolerina or the bacillus gods sitting on a handrail. There are a few gods that come out to watch their compatriots play in international tournaments, but the biggest sports fans in the Taxonomic Kingdoms are the mortal population of the Virias.

The Virias are the oldest part of the Taxonomic Kingdoms. There is no day or night because they were independent before God separated light from darkness. And there is no sickness or death because they were independent before the Fall of Eden. The native inhabitants of the Virias are the genetic coders who create viruses, and everyone who goes there will be infected -- but they will only fall ill when they leave. As long as they stay in the Virias, they will not age or die or suffer any illness. Over the years, several mortals have become trapped there, living forever, but unable to leave without falling ill. International sporting events like WLC give them something to watch to pass the time. The games are broadcast on tRNA Sports and people hold watch parties in their homes. (tRNA = the Ribovirian Network Association, a major media outlet in Orthornavirae.)

Since the mortal population of the Virias are trapped there, you won't see them coming to games to cheer on the Hermit Crabs. They are watching, though.

A hard defeat to swallow, we need to do better

Following a confident showing followed by a scare we had moved onto the second matchday where we would face Kriegiersien. Playing in South Jeolerina almost felt like playing at home for our players as they were cheered on by thousands of fans who had made their way from Bollonich to support our players in their noble quest for some success. The World Lacrosse Championship will always remain as a special competition in the hearts of the most Bollonischian sports fans since it was the competition where we first debuted in international sport and we haven’t looked back ever since. The travelling had taken to the streets and roads of South Jeolerina as they travelled from Dillkshire where they saw us defeat The Kytler Peninsulae to Poolside where we would face the might of Kriegiersien.
Going into the match Winfield Bárta had echoed that we would need to be cautious to not give Kriegiersien many chances but also made it clear that we were no pushovers and that confidence was high. Confidence would be something the Kriegiersienians’ would be lacking following their narrow overtime defeat to Natanians and Nosts or so we thought. From the get go it was clear to us that this game was not going to be as comfortable as we would’ve wanted. The Kriegiersien players were incredibly strong and put pressure on us as they scored a good amount of goals. The Bollonischian players were clearly worried by Kriegiersien’s domination throughout the match and by the end of the first half they had a healthy lead of 14-5. We had to strike back, but how? Kriegiersien looked too compact for us to do anything as most of our forward pushes broke down as their defenders Bonecrusher and Smurf delivered award winning performances. The game progressed on as we had to look on at Kriegiersien picking up the win as helpless bystanders.
And just like that we had suffered our first defeat of the 38th WLC but we couldn’t look back. We have to keep moving forward as we come up against another unranked side in Venmere next who currently hold two wins out of their two games.
