Additional Information

About Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a team sport, where a ball ("Lacrosse ball") is passed between teammates, using a stick with a mesh/net at the end (a Lacrosse stick, also known as "crosse").

On the field, there will be 10 players of each team, namely, one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three attackers. There are different kinds of sticks used. A short stick measures between 40 and 42 inches (100 and 110 cm) long and is usually used by attackmen and midfielders. A long stick measures between 52 and 72 inches (130 and 180 cm) long, and only a maximum of 4 outfield players are allowed to use it (usually 3 defenders + 1 defensive midfielder). For the goalkeeper, a stick of any length between 40 and 72 inches is allowed.

The regulation playtime is 60 minutes long, divided into 4 periods of 15 minutes each. Play is started at the beginning of each quarter and after each goal with a face-off. To score a goal, a team must propel the ball into the goal such that it fully crosses the goal line. The team who scores the most goals win. Should there be a tie after regulation, overtime will be employed. Per international lacrosse rules, two straight 5-minute overtime periods will be played. Should the score remain tied, the sudden victory rules will be employed.

Roster
A standard roster comprises of 30 players, usually comprising of 3 goalkeepers and 27 outfield players. Apart from that, teams will usually give some additional pointers that helps in the roleplaying. These may include: history of the team; the character of the coaches and players; play style of the team; selection of the starting team. Given that games will be held in the individual countries, it would also be good to give some information about your home stadium and travel tips.

For reference, you may refer to the roster of the defending champions from the last edition.

Every roster should also contain a RP permissions box. This allows opponents to understand what should or should not be RPed. A sample of such a box is as follows:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
RP penalties/suspension events: Yes/No
Godmod penalties/suspension events: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
You may also add any other remarks to quantify some of the permissions, where necessary.

EDIT (010921, 0300 UTC): Multiple formats are being considered, given that we have exceeded the last proposed format of 30 teams. This includes a 8 group of 4 home-and-away, and a 4 group of 8 single play-off. The decision will be made at the group draw.
EDIT (010921, 1435 UTC): Edited post to include group stage. 4 groups of 8 single round robin would be employed instead.

About The Gothanita Isles
The Incorporated States of the Gothanita Isles (TGI), is made up of a series of island states, which came together by the Gothanitan Declaration of 2047, as an economic and political union. The people of the respective island states will come together as Gothanitans, with a unified stance on issues of national security, foreign policy, and political issues. The signatories of the Declaration will act as the defenders of the sea, defending the way of life for islanders across the multiverse, and also, come together as one unified voice in the multiverse.

In reality, the politics of each and every island-state is largely different. The differences in government system is the most common question, but given the levels of self-autonomy each member state have over their people, the differences have been largely reconciled at a national level. Twice yearly, the representatives gather together in the Council of Four meeting (officially known as the Gothanitan Combined Council meeting), with the leaders of each government coming together to discuss four main issues: economic development, combined foreign policy, national security issues, and cultural issues. Many things, however, can be decided on a local level, so these meetings are typically short, with not a lot of issues on the agenda. The agreements require ratification by the individual member states (per the Gothanitan Declaration of 2047, which is effectively the Constitution of TGI) before becoming law.

Currently, there are 4 signatories to the Gothanitan Declaration, and collectively, these nations are represented on the international level as The Gothanita Isles. Individually, however, each of these 4 signatories have their respective clout in their own regions, and are allowed to conduct some low level business with their region mates. As such, they are considered as partial states by some other nations. The 4 signatories are: (per the order as signed on the Declaration)

About South Jeolerina
It is unsure why South Jeolerina continues to keep "The Borderlands of" as their pretitle, but historically, given that South Jeolerina has been seen as a splinter nation of the larger Handroian peninsula, they have considered themselves as the Borderlands. Before the region move that caused them to wound themselves in Rushmore, they were together as part of a broader Handoria state. For people familiar with North Handoria, they would understand that they continue to be a dictatorship, led by an unelected President. South Jeolerina, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. Civil rights and Political Freedom in South Jeolerina is at an all time high. Every 4 years, Jeoleris go to the polls to elect a 30-member assembly of lawmakers. A multi-member transferable vote system is the one being used for the vote. These 30 members will be the lawmakers proposing laws for the country, but with the exception of resolution concerning supply, the citizen population have the right to push for a nation-wide vote for the resolutions. Four times yearly, on the first Friday of March, June, September and December, Jeoleris will go down to vote for these resolutions where necessary.

Civil rights are excessive, and often abused. Drug usage is allowed in the country. Although many things are permitted in the country, visitors are reminded to make sure that they do not commit any crimes, as crimes are heavily punished in the country. For instance, drink driving, and hauling racial abuse at others, are the most common criminal acts being done by people. South Jeolerina is, however, very open and welcome for visitors, and they are definitely happy with the hosting of the World Lacrosse Championships.

Event
8 teams from South Jeolerina participate in the Jeolerina-Hallikshire Lacrosse Champions, and they each have their own stadium. All 8 fields will be used for the competition.

Northern Half
1) Poolside Lacrosse Field, Poolside (cap. 12,000)
Poolside is just a 60 minutes drive from Manclester Airport, it remains one of the manufacturing cities of the country. South Jeolerina is one of the main economic engines in TGI, with manufacturing being a main part of the economic engine of the country. Poolside is home to a decently sized population, though it is not exactly the tourist spot you are looking for. Poolside LC, however, is one of the main Lacrosse clubs in the country, and the are the occupants of the Poolside Lacrosse Field

2) Manclester Field, Manclester (cap. 14,000)
3) Hamphire Park, Manclester (cap. 9,000)
Manclester is the largest city by size, home to the biggest manufacturing parks in the country, and also, starting to see a growing technological park in the Hamphire region. Manclester LC and Hamphire Athletic are the occupants of Manclester Field and Hamphire Park respectively.

4) Sutra Lacrosse Stadium, Dillkshire (cap 10,000)
Dillkshire is largely a farming district, but has been a dark horse in terms of lacrosse performance. In fact, 6 of the 30 players in the South Jeolerina national team belong to the Sutra Dillkshire LC, and for the people of the town of Sutra, where the stadium is based in, it is something they are extremely proud of. The town is one of the poor districts in the nation, but if you want to understand the sporting culture in the country, Dillkshire is indeed home to quite a number of sporting facilities, professional sports clubs, including Lacrosse.

Southern Half
1) Jisonira Lane, Donbester (cap 8,500)
Donbester is known as a historic town, given its involvement in the Handorian conflicts early on. It is also the old economic capital of the nation, given that the country used to have the coastal city as a port. It still remains as a port city, but not a lot of economic development is being done right now, and the country is on a push to redevelop the country to bring it back to its former glory. Jisonira Lane is home to Donbester Athletic LC, the lacrosse equivalent of the club.

2) Denderliani Lacrosse Park, Hangastan (cap 7,500)
Hangastan is known as a small town in the south of the country, and there isn't much to the town, apart from the quiet countryside. It is more famous for some of the winter sports, though Ice Hockey as a professional sport didn't really take off across the country.

3) Moose Center, Jeolerina City (cap. 9,000)
4) Hangshire Sports Complex, Jeolerina City (cap. 18,000)
The capital city is definitely a tourist hotspot. Amusement parks in the outskirts of the city, beautiful parks and nature reserves, Jeolerina City is the main city the visitors would like to put themselves in. They are home to two clubs, namely, Tyrial Jonis LC, and Hangshire LC.

The northern half will host the group stage matches of Group A & B teams. The southern half will host the group stage matches of Group C & D teams. First fixture listed takes the 1st listed stadium, second fixture listed takes the 2nd listed stadium, and so on.

The Bollonischian Lacrosse Team
The Bandits

Image

The Bandits will be taking part in their second ever World Lacrosse Championship as we come into this competition in South Jeolerina ranked 19th all over the world. In the 37th World Lacrosse Championship held in Baker Park a young and talented Bollonischian side reached the Round of 12 before eventually being knocked out by Kohnhead. We started off the group stage with a strong win over Sylestone, before falling prey to Sannyamathland in the very next match. After a very interesting group stage which saw us defeat second seed Banija on the last match day we advanced to the Round of 12 by the skin of our teeth. In the Round of 12 we were eliminated by Kohnhead as we had a dream like WLC making it much farther than we expected.
Following the great success of the 37th edition of the World Lacrosse Championship, the Board of Bollonischian Lacrosse has decided to keep the squad travelling to South Jeolerina the same as Corvinian Gervasio the 30 year old attacker will be the player to watch out from the Bandits. Corvinian was very much the superstar of our last WLC as he scored a miraculous 34 goals in only 6 games.

The Kriegiersien Lacrosse Nationalteam

Consists out of many Xvarts, locals from the recently conquered stolen lands, that have become very proficient in the sport. After a short dominance, other races and cultures found their way into the sport, who got a better funding over the years.
The team is now a good mix of Xvarts, Zombie Players, Orcs and Humans.

At the last WLC after a good start a suprising loss against Xabia in the first play-off round meant that they had to go home again without a medal. To get a podium finish is the main goal.

For a nation where nudity is mandatory, clothes are always a nice surprise. Kriegiersien comes as always in their black Olympic rags.. jerseys.

Melbergia National Lacrosse Squad - WLC 38

Image

This will be Melbergia's WLC debut, building upon a growing interest in the sport, albeit mostly within metropolitan areas and university communities. The sport remains a minority concern outside of the Melbergian public's general awareness, however the Melbergian Lacrosse Association (MLA) are hoping that an entry on the world stage may help raise the game's profile domestically.

Expectations are minimal for this fledgling squad - there are no professional athletes here, only a team of enthusiastic amateurs who train two or three nights a week.

After the failures of the 28th and 29th World Lacrosse Championships, and especially the 29th edition where Banija got eliminated in the group stages of the WLCs for the first time ever, everything was torn down. The Olympic Committee of Banija seized control, and voted the sport's independent governing body(a rarity in Banija) out of existence. Various reforms were introduced. Chief among them- rid themselves of those who failed. The entire coaching staff was purged, and with it, not a single player who was on the WLC 28 or 29 roster was invited back to form the WLC 30 roster. Those high up in Banija called the WLC 29 group stage elimination, on home soil, of a nation that considered themselves an international lacrosse powerhouse an 'absolute embarassment to the country' and vowed for deep reforms to ensure that this did not ever happen again.

This, of course, happened before the 30th WLCs, in Cassadaigua. The Banijans were able to escape the group stage, once again, but fell to an ancient power in this sport- Sarzonia, by a score of 10-9, in the Round of 16. It was followed by a disappointing entry at the Champions Challengers Cup, where they fell to both Baker Park and Sarzonia in West Guiana, to finish 0-2. In the 31st WLCs, the Banijans finally overcame recent struggles by geting back to where they felt they belonged, the semifinals, though they fell at that stage in Baker Park. While they regressed at WLC 32, only going .500 in the group stage and getting knocked out in the Round of 16 by the tournament's top seed, they've restructured the squad. While they kept the defense and goalies, they made big changes up top, replacing all 7 midfielders on the roster, as well as changing out a number of attacking players. The WLC 33 cycle began strongly, with the team winning the Moravica Lacrosse Invitational en route to going 6-0 in group play. However, they were downed by Sarzonia in the quarterfinals, once again giving the Banijans an early exit from lacrosse's premier tournament.

WLC 34 was the most success this team has had in quite a while. While the team only got 2nd place in their group, their 4-2 finish put them into the knockout stages. They hit their stride in the knockout stages, beating a trio of lacrosse giants- West Phoenicia, then Sarzonia, and then the Commonwealth of Baker Park, en route to their first final since WLC 21. While they were favored in the Final, HUElavia was one better, downing the Banijans by a score of 14-9, as they came out of nowhere, in their first ever WLCs, and found themselves crowned champions of the world. After a quarterfinal elimination WLC 35, Banija was back at it in WLC 36, going undefeated in the group stages, including an upset victory over longtime rival Abanhfleft, who have delivered Banija so much pain in this sport while we have failed to return the favor.

They reached the semifinals, before playing their dreaded Fleftic opponents. There was a sense of optimism in the camp brought to them by their AO championship that preceded this tournament. But an Abanhfleft team that looked down and out brought the high-flying Banijans down to Earth, reminding us exactly who was the boss in this sport as they eliminated us once again in the late stages of this tournament, en route to their record sixth title. To follow it up with more pain, we played our other chief rival in this sport, Sarzonia, in the WLC 37 Semifinal. Once again, a high-flying Banijan team was brought down to Earth by an archrival, and Banija simply watched from the sidelines as our fierce regional rivals won their sixth ever WLC title, while Banija went on to pick up our record fifth third place finish at this tournament.

Once again, the Banijans come into this tournament with high expectations- the expectations of winning a world championship. Allen Budaye has kept the core of this team, only making one change to the starting X, and otherwise bringing the exact same roster he took to WLC 37 and AOLC V(as part of the AOlympics). The team won bronze and silver at those two events, respectively, so this is an experienced team that has made a few deep runs together. Of course, they've never won the big one, and they will hope that this year is finally the year when they break through and win their first ever world title in lacrosse.

Sarzonia Stars
If you RP first, you may/may not do the following:
You may choose my goalscorers/goalscoring events
Everything else (Godmoding/injuries/ejections
Suspensions, violence/pandemics) is a no-go

Style: 0 (balanced between attack-minded and defensive)
Home grounds: Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock, capacity 35,000.
Please note: This team is renowned for its fair play. If you attack first, it will retaliate, but it will not initiate a fight.

Manager Jordan Helms, 48
Helms was a compromise choice as Stars manager after the Incorporated Lacrosse Federation couldn't come to terms with any of their prospective choices. Helms agreed to retain former manager Carter Whitlock's coaching staff and roster, saying he wanted to give the team a chance to become "[his] guys."

Defensive Coordinator: Makeeyah Brantley (43 years old)
Brantley is stepping in as defensive coordinator after the Stars fired longtime defensive boss Bill Harbour following his intemperate comments about Cassadaigua's national team. She served as a defensive coordinator at the collegiate and pro levels for eight years.
Offensive Coordinator: Tyler Pawlenty (51 years old)
Pawlenty helped mold offenses in college, in particular Rypien State College during a four-year period when that school won three collegiate national titles. His teams emphasise possession and patience, often including multiple passes before taking the perfect shot.
Assistant Coach: George Tomlin (35 years old)
Tomlin recently retired as a faceoff specialist after a collegiate career that saw him win 78 percent of his faceoffs. During his professional career in Sarzonia, he won 69 percent of his faceoffs. He can coach multiple styles of faceoffs, taking into account multiple fogos.
Assistant Coach: Bradley Morse (55 years old)
Serves as goalie coach. He helped several Sarzonian World Lacrosse Championship winning teams with goalies in an informal capacity. Now, he's coming out of retirement to provide assistance as a paid full-time coach after Whitlock convinced him to do so.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

When the Sarzonian national lacrosse team returned from the long period of international isolation, there was much they had to do. They had to find a manager. They chose one of their greatest-ever players for the role. They had to assemble an all new team, as Carter Whitlock's playing days were behind him. They got a team that was good enough to challenge, but never was able to ascend back to the mountain top.

They watched Abanhfleft draw level, then later surpass the once seemingly insurmountable total of five World Lacrosse Championships by winning two consecutive titles. They stared down the upstart Fleftics, fully aware that if they had to prevent them from putting near insurmountable distance between these new kings of the sport and the ancient superpowers, they would have to defeat Abanhfleft in the final.

Boy did they. The Stars rolled to a 27-10 triumph that almost no one saw coming. I mean, the prospect of Sarzonia defeating Abanhfleft to finally capture their sixth title and prevent a three-peat by the Fleftics was a possibility no one could ignore. Granted, they perhaps wouldn't have been the favourites to defeat Abanhfleft and end that streak, but a Sarzonia victory wouldn't necessarily be an upset. The total domination, however, was a surprise. The Stars played an otherworldly match against the Fleftics and drew themselves level once again for the most titles of any country in history.

Manager Jordan Helms decided not to tinker with the roster, as every Stars player on that championship-winning team decided to come back with hopes of repeating. Remarkably for a team that at one time had more titles than anyone else, the Stars had never repeated as champions in their history. They won in their inaugural appearance in the third edition hosted by Secristan, finished with bronze in the fourth edition in Dancougar, then won the fifth edition in Newmanistan. However, when Sarzonia hosted for the first of four tournaments and four of five overall, the Stars failed to qualify for the knockout rounds. They would be back atop the medal platform in the eighth edition in Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock, but lost to Mytannion in the next final at their unofficial lacrosse Mecca.

"We have a great collection of players who bonded together to become a great team," Helms said. "We have a phenomenal managerial staff with Makeeyah [Brantley, the defensive coordinator], Tyler [Pawlenty, the offensive coordinator], George [Tomlin, assistant coach] and Bradley [Morse, assistant coach]. We're still hungry to show the lacrosse world we're back where we belong and we're going to fight to keep that title."

If the Stars (8-0 in the previous WLC) are to repeat, they may well have to do so again by getting past multi-sport archrivals Banija or Abanhfleft, who will likely be eager to get back their position as the most-crowned team ever. Regardless, Sarzonia will hope to do the same things they did in the previous edition.

Only this time, the Stars realise they have targets on their backs.

"The defending champions will always get the other team's best shot," Brantley said. "We have to be ready and able to fight back."

If you RP first, you may pick goals and goal scoring plays, and most other things that occur over the course of a normal lacrosse game.
Contact me for injuries, ejections, and suspensions
No godmodding

Coach: Nils Skoglund (35)
Skoglund just recently retired from professional lacrosse, and is well-respected by the team for participating in many of the drills he creates.

Assistant Coach: Elise Groven (40)
Groven runs the offensive side of the team, having formerly played in the Cordian league. She runs a fast, constantly moving offense, which involves a lot of “cross-and-drops” around the outside of the offensive zone. A team defending this offense must have great communication, or else they’ll find themselves leaving players open all over the place.

Assistant Coach: Aleksander Ekern (38)
Ekern runs the defense. As it goes up against Groven’s offense in practice, the defense communicates very well and a screw-up in coverage is rare. The defensive squad is aggressive, especially in the “slot” in front of the net where most goals are scored.

Goaltender Coach: Isak Solum (53)
Solum was a goaltender in the league a while ago, and his job is really just to work with the goaltenders on various aspects of their game that are currently weak.

Starters in bold.

Attackers

Mona Hougen (19)
Michael Hustad (31) C
Peter Fjelde (25)

Niklas Aasen (26)
Hans Rue (24)

Johan Agdestein (18)
Oskar Meas (21)

Edvin Bjork (21)
Anne Helseth (25)

Goaltenders

Sofie Westby (28)
Tore Volden (22)
Mai Gilbertsen (19)

Group D is looking pretty rough for the Cordians, with two top-6 teams, including the defending champs. However, couch Skoglund refuses to get down, calling the draw an opportunity to establish the team on the international stage.

Lacrosse is a new sport in The Jovannic, but there are semi pro leagues with several talented players. Could go far.

Coaches
Head coach: Usti Guinrti, 59
Veteran Coach, played basketball and transfered to coach lacrosse teams for 23 years. Good sense and flexible.
Assistant coach: Ner Cheun, 33
Graduated from SportJovannic Training centre, Ner coached a 3rd division football club for 3 years before moving to Lacrosse where his aggressive style has been blooming.
Trainer: Josh Ng, 42
Retired Lacrosse Player, known for his persistent training methods and motivational speeches.

Roster

Goalies

#1 Junivert Kaiyt age 25*
#31 Mortana Liul, age 29
#99 Jonas Priven, age 22
3 talented goalkeepers, you could not ask for much more. Junivert is the breakout star of last semi pro season, with a record number of saves a game. Mortana is more relaxed and defensive, but has good reactions. Jonas is a new player that has shined in the league, and can reach out to clutch save many shots.

Defense

#6 Boho Macksisilo, age 26* (Left D)
#2 Reg Huhn, age 23* (Center D)
#3 Chitar Muses, age 26* (Right D)
#98 Ji Fung Hao, age 21
#66 Nicholas Asereren, age 34
#43 Marco Tistar, age 24
#9 Furoum Nihujin, age 121
Boho Macksisilo was the cream of the crop of the Jovannic Defense, tough and large but also deceptively fast, he can stop attacks single-handedly. Rag is extremely fast and is aggressive, pushing forward to block attacks early. Chitar is another stronger player, but is better as a supporter to block any attacks that break through th solid wall of the first two. Ji Fung Hao is a great talent, capable of running around for ages to prevent attacks. Nicholas is a former football player, with amazing stamina and strong attacks. Marco is another aggressive defender, who can run up and participate in attacks too. Furoum is your regular hardworking defender, nothing special, but has good resilience and a good long term option.

Midfield

#45 Rockse Litti , age 30* (Left Mid)(Captain)
#31 Johiver Kee, age 24* (Centre Mid)
#23 Frisk Hamura, age 27* (Right Mid)
#97 Jukisaw Rong, age 21* (Forward)
#28 Jovan Swasee, age 19
#56 Lionger Hangoyn, age 30
#23 Yong Wee Chow, age 22
Rockse Litti is a veteran, and the best player on the team, Rockse can control the field with ease, and always seems to be able to pass to the right player to score. Johiver Kee is a more stable player and can hold positions well. Frisk is quick and can sprint up and down the field, creating chances. Jukisaw is the aggressive attacker that can also partake in defensive duties well. Jovan is another good talent, his speed vital. Lionger is strong and can play as a defensive backup. Yong is aggressive and has a good eye for goal. His speed needs work though.

Attack

#54 Donovan Mishway, age 24* (Right Inner)
#47 Sqeiza Misticoli, age 31* (Centre)
#39 Howard Lim, age 26* (Left Inner)
#92 Ale Soshtaker, age 26
#13 Rilie Ritegen, age 21
#25 Po Chua Ken, age 23* (Left Forward)
Donovan is rapid and quick and can create many chances if played right. Sqeiza has a sweet arm and can smash a goal from any place. Howard is very strong and can control the attack with his strength and power. Ale is agile, able to slice in to create chances and score. Rilie is a talent and can sprint past defences to score. Po is a good striker with a wicked curve shot and good passing abilities.

Murderbum National Lacrosse Team

Murderbum is relatively large country located towards the south east of Anaia on the continent of Hodeikoleku. Having been strifed by political instability and conflict throughout the late 19th century and early 20th century, we witnessed the overthrowing of the Old Republic and installation of the puppet government which is effectively controlled by the members of the Bum Party. The Bum Party introduced an incredibly extreme form of Communism in Murderbum as they executed industry leaders who opposed them as all private industry was seized by the government.
Lacrosse as a sport is fairly popular in Murderbum, despite it not receiving the most government funding. Lacrosse has seen growth especially as it’s played a lot in Weinsein. The Government of Murderbum shall be sending the Lacrosse side to play in South Jeolerina in a similar attempt as to their participation in the World Baseball Classic.

Note - Murderbum’s people have an odd naming convention as everyone’s records are stored with their surnames being Bum as a sign of allegiance to the state and the Bum Party with their family name being the middle name.

The Qasden Lacrosse Association is honored to introduce our National Delegation for the 38th World Lacrosse Championships!

It's been a hot minute since the X-Vans have had their wealth of power, now marking eleven championships since their victory over Huri de Wintre in Natanians and Nosts, but with a new day comes a new tournament; And with a new tournament, it's time for some new faces to revitalize the nation's long lost moxie. With a bronze finish at the fifth AO Lacrosse Championships in Banija (the best ever showing by the team) the never-aging OGs of days yonder are finally letting a new group have a turn, spearheaded by pee-wee lacrosse coach, Peter Swearings.

The end of an era is always sad, even when it's a time to rejoice. But now isn't the time to mourn, not in a roster post, anyways. It's time we introduce these new folks, the fillers of legendary cleats. For their inaugural foray, please join me in welcoming the next generation of the X-Vans!

The Taxonomic Kingdoms are inhabited by deities of the natural world. They believe that all living things are equal, regardless of species. This is NOT limited to sapient species, or even to animals.

These deities do not expect to be worshipped, and they do not normally respond to unsolicited prayers. (They can hear prayers, but they usually consider them a nuisance and refuse to answer, much like people refuse to pick up the phone when they get a call from a telemarketer or a political campaign.) When interacting with the mortal world, they most commonly appear in the form of plants, animals, fungi, or puffs of fog. Occasionally they can appear in human form, or as colored blotches growing in a petri dish, but these manifestations are less common. Regardless of how they manifest themselves in the mortal world, they are fluent in all the languages of Earth. Not only human languages, but also animal languages such as birdsong or whalesong.

There are 16 kingdoms inhabited by different types of deities. The lacrosse team entering this tournament is from Animalia. All the players are gods of different hermit crab species. They will appear as unusually large hermit crabs, all of which can breathe air even if the mortal version of the species lives in water.

"What the chuff is la-crossy?" asks junior groundsman Phil.

"La-cross," corrects senior groundsman Martin. "You don't say the 'e'".

"Yeah that, but what is it?"

"It's a bit like hockey I think, only the sticks have a net on the end and they go wanging the ball around with 'em."

"Sounds crap. And painful. How long are they going to be playing here?"

"Few weeks it looks like. Apparently our lot are awful."

"Must be if they're playing their international matches here," muses Phil. He looks around at the Southberg Stadium, an athletics venue built about fifty years ago with little sign of any investment in the intervening period. "So where are we putting the lines?"

Martin takes a folded piece of paper out of his back pocket and passes it to Phil.

Phil glances at the pitch diagram. His expression falls with deflation. "All those curves..."

Martin's expression is pure schadenfreude. "All those curves. So less standing around chatting crap and get yourself going. You get cracking on that goal area or whatever it is over there, I'll make a start on the touchlines."

Phil closes his eyes and sighs.

Familiar foes in Banija as Bollonischian Lacrosse sees a shift in dynamics

The Bollonischian Lacrosse team heading into the 38th World Lacrosse Championship held in the fellow Rushmore nation of South Jeolerina, the tables have very much turned for the side. Heading into Baker Park two years prior, we were the underdogs, the unranked side. Nothing was expected from us and we expected nothing from ourselves. We had no experience in the international stage which has since changed. In the 37th WLC where we reached the Round of 12 we made huge strides in the sport of Lacrosse in Bollonich as we are currently poised in a comfortable 14th rank all over the world. We are no longer the inexperienced, unranked side. We have become the side that people expect to make it to the knockouts and that’s what we want to do. Coming into the 38th edition of the WLC we were placed in the third pot, showing to us that anything below third place in our group would be far from acceptable. Group B, the group we’ve been drawn into features some familiar opponents from our previous endeavour in the WLC such as Banija and Northwest Kalactin, two sides against raw Lacrosse teams of which we have very fond memories. We will be attempting to repeat something similar to what we did in the previous edition where we beat notable Lacrosse sides such as Banija, Sylestone and Northwest Kalactin while also taking our match against Cassadaigua to over time.

Matchday 1 - The Kytler Peninsulae (UR)
The Kytler Peninsulae return to the international foray of sports after years of absence as they come in as an unranked side. Having not taken part in any of the past three editions of the WLC it’s a safe bet that the team will be a completely revamped one. A team that we should be able to beat shall we perform at the level expected of us. And performing at this high level, a win for us seems most likely.

Matchday 2 - Kriegiersien (9)
Kriegiersien are regulars at the WLC as they are currently ranked 9th in the world, a few spots above us. Similar to how we did last time around, Kriegiersien also managed to make the Round 12 before being eliminated by Xabia. Our encounter against Kriegiersien will be much more tricky than our game against the Kytler Peninsulae. Against Kriegiersien we should expect this game to be tight while not ruling out either of the possibilities.

Matchday 3 - Venmere (UR)
Venmere is a side that shall be making their debut in the world of lacrosse in South Jeolerina and given their lack of experience at the top stage of lacrosse and sports in general this match shouldn’t be much of a challenge. Venmere very much look like a team to be pushed about, and against them anything short of a victory would be disastrous.

Matchday 4 - Melbargia (UR)
And in the period of 4 Matchdays we will be facing all three unranked sides in our group. The fourth team facing us in Melbargia who similarly to Venmere intend on making their debut in the 38th WLC. And Melbargia is also a team we should be comfortably be defeating, as these games should not pose the slightest of threats to our side.

Matchday 5 - Natanians and Nosts (17)
Following what would be considered a rather easier half of the group stage we move into some of the tougher matches. Natanian and Nosts is a side returning after an edition of absence as they didn’t take part in the 37th WLC held in Baker Park. Being a returning side with a relatively good amount of experience, this game looks to be a tight one however Bollonich’s side edging out the Natanians and Nosts side seems the more likely outcome.

Matchday 6 - Banija (3)
Last time when we faced Banija was in Baker Park, as we narrowly edged them out in an incredibly entertaining lacrosse game. And now two years later the Banijans shall be coming to Rushmore our home region to try and take revenge. This game is without any doubt the game to look forward to in the entirety of Group B’s matches as when these familiar foes lock horns the world has to be watching. In this crucial encounter, predicting the outcome from a Bollonischian perspective is difficult as we know we are capable of winning. The odds in this encounter shall not be stacked against us as much as it was two years ago however it would be a lie to say if we were the favourites in this encounter.

Matchday 7 - Northwest Kalactin (33)
We will be ending our group stage campaign with a match against Northwest Kalactin, another side we had come across in the 37th WLC. Northwest Kalactin’s lacrosse side put disastrous performance previous edition losing each of their matches finishing with 0 points. And in this edition we should expect to repeat our dominant thrashing of Northwest Kalactin as we stand as a much more superior side to them.

Rounding up the Group Stage, it is expected that we make the round of 16 comfortably without having to come close to playing in the play-in round. Whether these predictions stand or not depends upon the team that shall be representing us at the WLC.

Ambitious Banijans back again at WLC 38 as they aim for their first ever world title in this sport
Is this finally the year Banijan lacrosse wins its first ever world title in lacrosse?

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- Banijan lacrosse is finishing up its training camp at home in Banija before the team prepares to fly off to South Jeolerina, to contest the 38th World Lacrosse Championships. A potential bid by the Olympic Committee of Banija to host this tournament reached the exploratory stage, but never got further than that, as the Olympic Committee declined to put themselves forward in the face of fierce competition from excellent bids elsewhere. It will be at least one more cycle before the World Lacrosse Championships make their return to Banija for the first time since WLC 30.

But there was high-level lacrosse played in the country during the AOlympics. As a host nation for the tournament, Banija played host to both the AO Bowl and the AO Lacrosse Championships, as well as hosting select games in both basketball and baseball. We were going for our record third regional title in the sport, with many highly anticipating a championship match between the defending regional champions, Banija, and the reigning world champions, Sarzonia. The two fierce rivals put each other in their sights at the beginning of the tournament, and with their mutual other rival, Abanhfleft, not in the region, many thought they were co-favorites to reach Herzegovina City. Baker Park could trip either of them up, but that would be it?

However, that dream Final was not meant to be. The two favorites were shown up on Banija's home soil. Milchama eliminated both nations in succession. Milchama upset Sarzonia in Dodoma in the AOLC semifinals, and then in a Final where the goalies seemed to be taking a permanent smoke break, they downed us in front of a rabid home crowd, 28-21. Nobody likes to lose in a final that's at home, but that's exactly what happened. But now- the team moves on. "Look, we've done well in our last few cycles." Head Coach Allen Budaye said. "We've just go to do better in the back end of these tournaments, and finish the deal."

Banija's last three major tournaments. WLC 36- bronze medal(lost semifinal to eventual champion Abanhfleft). WLC 37- bronze medal(lost semifinal to eventual champion Sarzonia). AOLC V- silver medal(lost Final to Milchama). Budaye has raised the standard of lacrosse in Banija. There is no doubt that we are in the sport's upper echelon. But can we end the late stage heartbreak of Banijan lacrosse fans by actually winning this tournament?

"It's championship or bust." Arsa Bobbicevic III, a Banijan lacrosse player, said. "We know we have the talent- we've just got to put it together and stay focused for the duration of the tournament. Some may say WLC 36 was our golden opportunity. Others may say WLC 34. To those I say- we aren't living in the past. Our best opportunity is the next opportunity, and that's right here at WLC 38."

Banija has a challenging group. Ranked 3rd in the world rankings, the team are favorites in Pot 1 but have a number of difficult opponents. The marquee opponent for group play is undoubtedly our BoF 76 co-hosts. Bollonich is an up and coming Rushmori side- just in their second WLC, but they beat Banija in the final group game of the last tournament, derailing our bid to get drawn on the other side of the bracket from Sarzonia. "Bollonich is 1-0 all-time against us." Allen Budaye said. "You bet we have that game circled on our calendars." Kriegiersien also poses a particular challenge. They are ranked in the top 10, at 9th in the multiverse. And, of course, former regional rivals Northwest Kalactin.

We're favored to make the knockout stages. But we've got far higher ambitions than that. Can we win this group? Can we get ourselves a top 4 seed for the knockouts, and avoid both Sarzonia and Abanhfleft, our two fiercest rivals in this sport, for as long as possible? We shall see.

Official Nyowani Kitara National Lacrosse Team roster for the 38th World Lacrosse Championships

Head Coach: Laurin Schaufelberger. 45 years old. Ethnic Osterlander.
Demonym: New Kitaran for the nationality- Kitaran for the ethnic group.
Trigamme: NYK

Nyowani Kitara is a nation that is a multi-ethnic and largely bi-racial communist nation, ruled in a one party state. There are two major ethnic groups- the Kitara(approximately 57% of the population), who are black skinned people who originate as part of the Kitara tribe, in Banija, and mass migrated to Nyowani Kitara in the 1840s. They conquered the land that was dominated by a variety of white native tribes. Osterlanders(approximately 30% of the population) are the biggest native white ethnic group, with Nordlanders(6%) and Zealanders(1%) behind them. The remaining 6% are largely white immigrants and their descendants from neighboring countries (particularly Graentfjall, Tikariot, and San Ortelio).

Nyowani Kitara is known for its short, yet harsh, winters. This is a small and poorer country, and therefore outdoor sports are rather popular in this corner of Rushmore. Ethnic group for each player is listed. While sports in Nyowani Kitara are integrated on gender, this team specifically is all males.

South Jeolerina - Reporter Anita Elstad sat down with Cordian National Lacrosse Coach Nils Skoglund for an interview yesterday.

AE: Let's start with Saturday. You open against a ranked team in Ha'Yarok, followed by a game against another ranked team, Quebec and Shingoryeo. Thoughts?

NS: The opening stretch is going to be interesting. I think we have a really good chance of winning either or both games. As far as the records go, neither team has ever made it out of the Group Stage and neither team has posted a roster yet. However, they're ranked teams, and they're certainly pretty skilled, so we're taking it one game at a time.

AE: How are the players dealing with the pressure of their first international tournament?

NS: This is new for everyone. We’ve all played in big games in the domestic leagues, but this is a completely new experience for the whole team and everyone is pretty excited, as if it’s their first professional game.

AE: How have you been preparing for these games?

NS: We've been watching loads of film, both to learn from teams and to learn how to counter them. We’ve also been working on the little things in practice, like communication, adapting, who stays in the zone, that kind of thing. Prepping is a bit trickier for the unranked teams as they haven't played a game yet, but we'll have film to watch by the time we reach them.

AE: You'll be playing other unranked teams for the middle three games. Do you think your squad is better, or do you think they'll be around the same level?

NS: As I said, it's really hard to tell with these teams. None of them have publicized their roster yet, so what they throw at us will be a surprise and it's hard to prepare for them. I think we're the most skilled of the unranked teams for sure, but we won't know until we see them in action.

AE: Cassadaigua and Sarzonia-

NS: Oh God. *laughs*

AE: Heard this one a lot?

NS: Yeah.

AE: Here it is again; Cassadaigua and Sarzonia are both Top-6 teams and you play them one after another to end your Group Stage run. Do you think there's even a chance of winning?

NS: I really do. I keep telling people that it's an opportunity and it's really true. If we lose, we did what was expected of us. If we win either, we get a massive boost going into the KOs.

AE: What do you think are Cordia’s chances of getting to the knockouts?

NS: Really, really good. I’d go as far as saying by that we’ve got a nice shot at a top 3 place and bye to the RO16, even if we lose to both the Dagans and Sarzonia.

AE: Two more questions. First, do you wish that Cordia had internationalized earlier?

NS: Yeah, I think it’s been some we could do for a while that was kind of ignored. On the other hand, I’m happy we get a chance to play now, though, especially with this team.

AE: Second, many of us have seen the publicized roster, and those with lacrosse experience may know the term, but for those like myself who don’t, what is a “cross-and-drop”?

NS: Oh, that. It’s when two players, one of whom has the ball, cross one behind the other. The player with the ball can drop it to the other player or keep it. This creates some confusion and can cause hesitation in the defenders, leading to an opportunity.

AE: Thank you for the explanation and your time. Good luck against Ha’Yarok.

Note: Cordia faces Quebec on the third match day, not the second. Question 1.

Schedule
Saturday 8/4: @ Ha’Yarok
Sunday 8/5: vs. Tropicorp
Monday 8/6: @ Quebec and Shingoryeo
Tuesday 8/7: vs. Ranoria
Thursday 8/9: @ Beaverriver
Friday 8/10: vs. Cassadaigua
Saturday 8/11: @ Sarzonia

OOC: Not sure if the cross and drop is a real thing, but it is in Cordia.

Nyowani Kitara returns to the World Lacrosse Championships "looking for more"

SOUTH JEOLERINA- At WLC 36, Nyowani Kitara made our lacrosse debut on the international stage. Drawn into a group of death, we struggled with stronger and more experienced opponents on the global stage in this sport, and yet, held our own. We fought valiantly while being overmatched in terms of funding, population, etc... from many of our opponents, and were able to hold our own. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make the group stages, and we bowed out of the tournament. We also did not enter WLC 37.

But the Kitara People's Lacrosse Association(KPLA) is back and ready to go for WLC 38. "We proved at WLC 36 that our opponents should take us seriously in this sport." A KPLA spokesman told us. "Are we right next to winning a title? Probably not. But it's a slow and arduous process to be a top-level lacrosse side, and that is what the KPLA is building towards. Take the next step. Finish in the top half of our groups and aim for the knockouts. Don't necessarily get blown out by the big boys- show all nations, large and small, that Nyowani Kitara is out here to build a legacy."

Nyowani Kitara has its work cut out for themselves. In the opening game of the tournament, the squad opens with none other than Pot 1 side, the Commonwealth of Baker Park. Talk about a challenge. "Playing the Pot 1 team in the first game of the tournament, obviously, is not something we'd have asked for." Head Coach Laurin Schaufelberger said. "Both teams are going to come out firing, if not rusty. Still getting used to the ebs and flows of a national team, of course, anything can happen. But we're going to have to play a near perfect game if a team of our stature is going to beat a team of Baker Park's stature."

Fans believe that even if this game is unwinnable, it's a good measuring stick. "How do we see where we are? By seeing how we compare against the best of the best." A TV commentator said in coverage of the tournament. "And what's better than Baker Park? If we can keep it close, if we can stay in the game- it's a moral victory, even if of course none of our players or coaches would ever dare say anything like that out loud. And then after that, it gets easier for a little bit. We're ranked ahead of Both The Jovannic and Praxedes- a 2-1 start is not too much to ask for."

Can they get the job done? One game at a time. And the biggest opponent looms first, opening the tournament with the Commonwealth. Go NYK!

Commonwealth of Baker Park National Lacrosse Team

Baker Park first entered a team in the 29th World Lacrosse Championships, co-hosted in Razenthuria & Banija; the all-female squad made up of college-aged players advanced from pool play to the knockout round.
Previously controlled by the Universities Athletics Coalition, the sport is now governed by the Baker Park Lacrosse Association (BPLA). Dawn Thornton, the BPLA Chairwoman is currently serving her second term as Vice President of the World Lacrosse Council.

The nation has hosted the 31st and 37th editions of the WLC, as well as the 2nd Atlantian Oceania Lacrosse Classic, prior to WLC 34.

While the sport in BP was traditionally a female pursuit, males participated in intramural or recreational level competition; with the expansion of game into official intercollegiate recognition, the National Team have adopted an all gender policy which has seen expansion of the player pool.

Hayley Magditch hung up her cleats after the recent AOLC tournament in Banija, the last link to the Commonwealth's first ever WLC team and the all-time leader in appearances and goals for the National side; her number 11 shirt will not worn by anyone on the squad for this edition. Paige Cooper and Grace Greene inherit the seniority and will co-captain Baker Park's tenth tournament entry.

SYLESTONE DRAWN WITH BAKER PARK, KOHNHEAD, IN 38TH WORLD LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

AVONDALE, SYLESTONE - After failing to qualify for the knockouts of the 37th edition of the World Lacrosse Championships held in the Commonwealth of Baker Park, Brianna King came under much scrutiny for her captaincy throughout the tournament, with the youngster not quite providing the calm air her predecessor, Will Lax, had while on the field. Yet, she clearly did something right, with a 13-5 win over Cassadaigua keeping the Esportivans’ perfect record over the Dagans following a 6-2 win in the 36th edition on home soil. She also took a powerful Banijan side to overtime, as well as beating Northwest Kalactin on matchday five by nine goals to four. However, it was the two losses, against the unranked Bollonich and Sannyamathland, that put pressure on her role in the side. It follows a pattern that originated in Sylestone’s inaugural World Lacrosse Championships, where the Hawthorns suffered two losses at the hands of Lovisa despite taking both out against Aimena and one against the mighty Sarzonia. Then, in the 36th edition on home soil, Sylestone lost to Havynwilde, then ranked 17th in the multiverse and one-time wonders Saint-Domingues to continue their habit of losing to lowly-ranked sides.

But, for now, back to the present. Being a pot three team, the Hawthorns seem to be in a favourable position for a top three finish, which would earn themselves a free spot in the round of 16. However, a fourth- or fifth-placed finish will put Sylestone in a play-in round, where finishing below that would mean absolute disaster for the team. Can the Hawthorns finally make a good run and actually challenge the top few teams in the multiverse?

Well, they’ve given themselves a chance. Sylestone are ranked as the ninth best team in the tournament and tenth in the ranks, with Vangaziland the only team to within the top ten to not sign up, although it was something the Hawthorns were considering doing. Yet, they’re in the competition and have been drawn into Group C, arguably the easiest group of the lot. Their schedule is very top heavy, with matchday one against Kohnhead, ranked eighth in the world following a fourth-placed finish in Baker Park. Following that is the team from the commonwealth itself, ranked fourth in the world, of whom will be looking to top the group without dropping a game. Yet, they will be hard pushed, especially considering the frustration the Hawthorns have caused against top-ranked teams in recent editions.

From here on, the schedule gets much easier. On matchday three the Hawthorns play Murderbum, before backing that up with a match against old football rivals The Jovannic, ranked 34th in the multiverse after a hiatus worth two editions. Newcomers to the sporting fold Isle Noire will follow the nation from Atlantian Oceania, before the Hawthorns meet up with unknown side Praxedes on matchday six. Finally, Sylestone will meet pot four side Nyowani Kitara on the final matchday in a matchup that could certainly determine third place, if not higher. Things may look tough, but the Hawthorns are underrated. That is, if they can make it far into the competition for once. No more of this losing-out-during-the-group-stage shit, no no no. Just fifth-place, that’s all they need….

Can they pull it off, or will the Hawthorns come up short?
