In case you didn't notice, the NS Sports subforum has now reached 7,777 topics in the storied history since its inception. This is topic #7777. It's clear that the time is right for 7ball to return, with another edition of The Sevenful Game. Everybody get hyped for International Cup number FIVE. To the right, you can see the logo, courtesy of the dearly departed Meski Sports of Red Blackiland.

Now, if you're not familiar with the last 4 editions, or perhaps you've joined NS Sports sometime in the past three (nearly four) years, you may be asking, "Hey drawk, what is 7ball?" Well, if you don't know, check out this dispatch I wrote, which contains the rules, regulations, scoring, and likely anything you'll need to know about 7ball.

HOWEVER, I would suggest you check out this Google Slides presentation I made a couple years back which explains all the information more concisely, and even contains fun diagrams to help you visualize how this fictional sport works. From what I heard, this presentation was pretty informative, but if you have any more questions at all, feel free to ask them in this thread.

There's an example, which also is my official sign-up. Don't worry about coming up with a team name, every team in 7ball is called the "7s." The Examplestan 7s, the Testlandia 7s, the Basic City 7s, John Doe's 7s, for example. Just like last edition, all teams will be referred to as the "<nation> 7s" to avoid confusion. Sorry to those had special nicknames, this makes it easier. Unless your canonical nation name differs from your NS nation name, your nation name will be used.

I hosted the first 2 editions of 7ball, except the playoffs of IC7 II, which were scorinated by Peuples Nordiques des Fleurs (now known as Fleuronordicia, a puppet of Damukuni) due to a vacation I had to take. Then, Fleuronordicia decided to take full-on responsibilities and hosted IC7 III by himself. Following that trend, Qasden took up the reins for IC7 IV. I will be unable to host this edition because I'm pretty damn busy, so anybody else is welcome to take a crack at it. Standard host bidding procedures apply.

You will probably need to be able to scorinate the results correctly, so here's a link to the 7ball scorination file. Just copy/paste the text into Notepad and save as an .xml file and put it into the sports folder for xkoranate, or just download and move the file directly, whatever works for you. I'd encourage you to get a feeling for how the scores work and make sure the file works before bidding. Check out the bid from last edition to get a good idea of what to do.

Here are the Official IC7 Rankings following IC7 III, by the way. I will need to update them at some point, but on the other hand, it's been nearly four RL years since the last cup, so maybe using the ranks, updated or not, would be kinda pointless. I will leave that up to the host bidder on if they want to use the ranks, and if there's a large consensus, I will update them sooner than later so they can be used.

IC HOST INFORMATION

Sevendia:
Sevendia is a small, seven shaped country in Sonnel. At about 777,777 inhabitants, it isn’t a big or relevant nation. This is the first time Sevendia joins international sports, possibly because international sports don’t involve enough sevens to their liking. Clearly, this is not the case here. This is very seven. Everything is 7 in Sevendia. This is not an over exaggeration. Important rules of Sevendia include:
All (adult) people in Sevendia are seven foot. Always.
In every sentence, people currently being in Sevendia are required by law to use all the letters of the word seven (e, n, s, v) in every sentence they say.
The answer is always seven. No matter the question.
Everything that could theoretically be seven-shaped is seven-shaped.
Everything that can’t be seven-shaped is also seven-shaped.
All objects are required to have a 7 on them, including everything.
Seven.

Quemorr Isles:
Unfortunately, the Quemorr Isles haven’t been officially registered on the Sonnel map, with the planet’s mappers and satellites shitting themselves over recent years*. Hopefully they will be fixed up soon so we can, like, actually know where the Isles are.

* Not actually. Drawk just hasn’t done a mupdate

All that is known at the moment is that they are as far away from Sulsuland as possible. Bloody fish eaters.

The Isles are composed of two underwater cities, Fishington and Fish City. Fishington is the capital of the nation, where the almighty blue whale lives in residence in his underwater palace. Approximately 10000 inhabitants occupy Fishington, while Fish City, roughly two or three kilometres away. However, due to the obvious issues with hosting 7ball underwater, the two uninhabited islands that make up the Isles will be in use.

The larger one, Big Fishland, has a plateau on top that is primarily used for cricket (don’t ask). However, this plateau, roughly 300 by 300 metres, can be split into two 7ball fields without harming the pitches. They will be called “Big Fishland 7” and “Big Fishland 77”. In comparison to Big Fishland, Little Fishland is quite flat, and will play host to two 7ball ground, both right next to the shoreline. Yes, you guessed it. They will be called “Little Fishland 777” and “Little Fishland 7777”.

Fishington is roughly 500 metres off the west coast of Big Fishland, past some reefs and down a big drop-off. Fish City is located to the south of Big Fishland and north of Little Fishland, deep in the strait that separates the two, for those who are interested in scuba diving.

SCORINATION AND RP BONUS

Scorination will take place via the 7ball file on xkoranate, with one matchday taking place every 24 hours. Despite the two users being located in separate time zones, they should be able to scorinate at roughly the same time daily. As Sevendia/South Newlandia is currently a member of the Vilitan Plan bid for the upcoming World Cup, the tournament itself will occur almost entirely during the first or second half of the cup, with a preference being on the first half. If need be, Quemorr Isles/Sylestone is happy to take over for sections of the knockouts if his cohost’s hosting duties become too stressful.

As usual, roleplay bonuses will follow the meaningless phrase of “quality over quantity”. However, as 7ball seems to be a slightly meme-y sport, shitposting or RPing something that is guaranteed to make the hosts chuckle away is encouraged and may certainly garner you more bonus than something that doesn’t. Bonus will be cumulative and non-degrading, with rosters worth up to two roleplays, and ranks will not be used.

EXPERIENCE

Sevendia:
Sevendia, better known as the user behind South Newlandia, is a host with experience across multiple sports. They have hosted a bunch of stuff (IBS12 and WBC51) with Tikariot, are currently in charge of the CEdC together with the Grearish Union, have hosted CE28, and are also currently hosting this small side tournament that I forgot the name of.

Quemorr Isles:
Quemorr Isles is better known as the user behind Sylestone, who, like South Newlandia, has adequate experience with xkoranate across a variety of sports. Their most prestigious hosting outings have come in the 78th Cup of Harmony and the 74th Baptism of Fire, two WCC-sanctioned events, but there are more on top of that. Additionally, they have hosted the 36th World Lacrosse Championships, the second and third editions of the Aussie Rules World Cup, and the inaugural EspoT20. They also run a successful domestic league, under the nation of Sylestone.

FORMAT

Formats are a bit up in the air at the moment, but if possible, groups will consist of seven nations each, with possible formats for 14, 21, 28... teams. If this proves to be impossible, then there will be seven groups, known as “Group 7”, “Group 77”, all the way up to 7777777 (this numbering pattern will also be used for the preferred format). As this provides the hosts with a variety of different ways knockouts could be formatted, there will be an update on this as numbers appear to look a lot more set.

Seeding will be used, with the best team overall to face the worst that qualifies for the knockouts, with the possibility of a play-in round being used. Group stage rematches will not occur for the first round, and all matches will be played in the host nations.

Teafarmers Lucky77 bid for 7ball

Teafarmers (pronounced with a silent f) is a futuristic, alternate dimension nation. It is supposed to be a resemblance of PotatoFarmers (now known as Poafmersia) in an alternate dimension world, but the influences of Sonnel, the most Seven region ever, has made the nation obsessed with not just tea, which is the country’s holy animal, but they have prayed to the gods of seven. God Seven is how they call it. The official religion of Teafarmers.

For this 7ball bid, the 7ball association of Teafarmers (7AT) drew into its collection of seventy seven bidding formats, and posted the 7th edition of the 17th bid in the collection. It is known as the bid of the sevens, due to the numerous use of the number 7, multiples of 7, and numbers ending with 7 throughout the bid. Unconventional for normal nations, but in Sonnel, nothing beats a 7ish bid.

The games will be held among seven 7ball fields in Teafarmers. Actually, there is only 1 place with seven 7ball fields. Seventea Complex, located in Seventea town, on the outskirts of Drawktea city, comprises of 7 fields, namely 7fields, 77field, 777pits, 7777pit, 77777th, 777777S, and 7777777. That is right, all of the field names contain seven characters. It is so strange that the 7ball players in Teafarmers all contain 7, 17, or 27 characters (including the spacing), which is actually 7ball-worthiness.

The format
The aggregated group stage Ver7, created seventy years ago in Teafarmers (no, Poafmers certainly stole it from our history for their bid), with each participating team playing 7 group stage matches. For the people who are unfamiliar with the aggregated group stage, it is a format where teams are assigned to play matches with anyone in the competition, play those matches, and the aggregate results are tabulated and compared to decide who moves on to the next stage.

Tiebreakers for the group stage are as follows:

7. Coin Flip (A scorinated match based on RP7 system)

Following the aggregated group stage, 7 teams will qualify for the Round of 7. The top team will be given a bye into the semifinals. To give more excitement, every knockout fixture will be held in a best-of-7 format. For OOC scorination, this means 2 games scored everyday, until a team wins a majority of the 7 games.

Scorination & RP Bonus (RP7)
The RP7 system will be used for this tournament. Every matchday, RPs will be graded based on 7 grades, with a 0.7 increment between each grade, up to the max of 4.2 (0 to 6*0.7). In addition, users will be given an additional 7% of their graded RP bonus as skill level should their RP contain 7 words, 77 words, 777 words, etc., OR contain exactly 7 characters, 77 characters, 777 characters, etc. (excluding BB code tags), with this additional bonus rounded to the 3 decimal places where necessary.

RP grades will be given based on the system of quality, quantity, and consistency. Given the meme-y status of this tournament, anything that gives me a good laugh will definitely be most welcome.

As part of the RP7 system, teams will also be given a roster bonus up to the max of 1 RP bonus. Previous ranks will not be employed, including for any form of seeding. A team’s skill will be purely based on any 7ster (rosters) and RP bonus given to the team, per the RP7 system.

Hosting Experience
If you haven’t guessed by now, the user behind this nation is better known as Poafmersia. They have hosted the Independent Associations Championship 13, as well as being a member of the IFCF Council, having scorinated some competitions, including the recent 7th Challengers Cup.

In addition to Sevendia's post, I realised that I might have had a stupid brain moment here. For some reason I thought having seven groups and groups of seven would garner different numbers. I was wrong (and don't ask how I came to that conclusion).

But yes, for the purposes of this tournament, it will be a factor to ensure the most 7-ness, unfortunately. We're happy to do whatever is required to try and reduce this risk, including cutting puppets and looking for more signups, but ultimately, this may have to be the compromise.
