The Bollonischian National U-18 Football Team

The Bollonischian Football Federation

The 14th U18 World Cup which will take place during the same time as the Di Bradini Cup meant that eligible players participating in the Di Bradini Cup would miss out on the U18 World Cup. Due to the priority being placed on the Di Bradini Cup by the BFF, the side appearing in the U-18 World Cup contains no players from the national team roster and will be a completely fresh side.

This is the fourteenth time that Abanhfleft will be participating in an international under-18 football competition. Fourteenth time's the charm, right? IFA NEWS NETWORK
Another Start, one win

The Youth Team of Indusse started their new season journey with a victory over Galimencia for a score of 1-0. In other news of the group, Sredjnaci defeated Mertagne 2-0. The Sredjnaci Youths lead the group by a single goal advantage.
IFA's Official Prediction Team predicted that the Indussean youth team will surely qualify for round two. They also predicted the rest qualifying teams.

Group A
Looking at the overall performance of Group A teams, The Commonwealth of Baker Park and Chromatika have a chance to qualify for the round of sixteen. They will get followed by Starcom Racing (3) and Maramaa (4).

Group B
The results in Group B would be Ambiguous. The Three teams from Xanneria, Pemecutan and Abanhfleft have a chance to qualify. The Republic of Indian States seems to be out of the box and would not win a single match ahead. Since just two teams can qualify the prediction team thinks that Pemecutan and Xanneria will reach the Round of Sixteen.

Group C
Group C seems to be an easy qualification for Graintfjall. Graintfjall with either Oberour Ar Moro or Muralos would qualify for the round of sixteen. The second place would mostly be won by Oberour Ar Moro Over Muralos. Raspotochje may slow down the winning process but doesn't have a chance to qualify.

Group D
Group C contains the defending Champion Tumbra. Noting their recent 9-1 victory against Garbelia, they will surely qualify for Round of Sixteen with Sylestone. Garbelia and Hispinas both will get disqualified and fail to reach the next round. The Fight is between Tumbra and Sylestone on achieving position 1.

Group E
Group E is one of the toughest groups this season. All four teams seem to have chances of qualifying, but the more chance goes to Kohnhead and Delaclava. One of them is sure to take over qualifications and the fight gets between the two.

Group F
Another tough group, with earlier champions Starblaydia. Zeta Reka and Hugeltadom, HuElavia, Jovannic also have chances to qualify. HUElavia has experience as a plus point and Zeta Reka has their youth ness. Starblaydia has not won any tournaments recently which also gives the opponents some chance to get confident. The Prediction Team predicts that Starblaydia and Zeta Reka will get to the round of sixteen.

Group G
The Home Group where the home team belongs to! All Indusseans look forward to this group. The Prediction Team predicts that Sredjnaci and Indusse would qualify for the next round. The Third Place would go to Mertagne and the last to Galimencia. The main fight is between Sredjnaci and Indusse to see who gets the group championship. Indusse earlier reached Semi-Finals in the seventh edition of this tournament.

Group H
Another group with ambiguous results, Cassadaigua, Trolleborg and Bollonich has the chance to qualify for the round of sixteen. Cassadaigua is an experienced and professional team in terms of the rest and has a better chance to qualify. Trolleborg is a nation known for its recent victory in CMFA Melayu Archipelago Cup after joining as a visiting team. Bollonich is young blood in both experience and strength and they do have the power to surprise everyone and qualify for the next round. Magnecia is a team that has successfully established its last place dominance in the group.

The Federation of Mertagnian Football Presents...
Image
The Mertagnian National U-18 Football Team
for the RTC U18 World Cup 14

Our History:

Mertagne is keen to field our best U-18 players to the latest U18 World Cup, held in Xanneria and Starcom Racing. It'll be a place to show off the latest of our brightest and best, against key international sides such as Srednjaci and Indusse. With a bit of luck, the squad is hoping for a strong finish outside of the group stage to give these youngsters a bit of silverware and perhaps increase their worth on the world stage.

Our Key Staff:

Manager: Kylian Forsyth, 26 Image
Choosing a career in management over playing the game of football due to a chronic condition, Kylian Forsyth has more experience behind a chart than most national team managers. He's run the sims, he's run the drills virtually, and the FMF have decided to hand the young manager the U-18 squad as Forsyth also has a teaching qualification from a dubious Lucanrin college. He's expecting a tough set of games over in Xanneria and Starcom Racing, but he's crunched the numbers and it looks like Mertagne might do well after a rocky start.

His style on paper is a conservative -2, and the team will be playing a 4-5-1 formation with a slight overreliance on the counter attack, using their single striker, to seal some goals. Don't be fooled by the defensive leaning, however, as Forsyth has often instructed the two midfielders at the edges to take matters into their own hands and run an attack if they have the opportunity. This is sure to expand the critical thinking skills of these juvenile players, and hopefully set them up for a long an intreresting footballing career under Kylian's tutelage.

Assistant Manager: Souveraine Riddle, 34 Image
Souveraine Riddle is one of the main coaches at Audsley Academy, a hotbed for Mertagnian Youth on Horsehead Island, located in the province of Dannmarsh. She's stern, but knows when to relent, and has proven herself to be a key member of staff in the growth and wellbeing of the national team.

RTC U18 WORLD CUP 14

Mertagne 0–2 Srednjaci

36' Agatha Drmić, assist Tea Mandulić (1:0)
77' Ferdinand Blašković, assist Boris Jakobović (2:0)

Our young footballers started well in the RTC U18 WORLD CUP 14. In the first match, our best juniors beat their peers from Mertagne with 2: 0. Although the result says that it may have been an easy victory, but on the field it was not so. Both teams had equal chances, but our strikers are somewhat better and more precise. Mertagne had his opportunities but did not take advantage of them. Srednjaci can now look more calmly at the continuation of the competition. Mertagne and Indusse are the strongest teams in this group after all.
All of our young players come from our junior league. The league ended a few weeks ago and now the preparations for the next season, which starts with the Premier League, are in four weeks.

Everything in our group is very uncertain. The Indusse and Srednjaci recorded their first wins. But all options are still open. The group is strong and uncertain.

Al-Ali resists calls to quit following 5-1 drubbing by Delaclava

Adab under-18 national team manager Faisal al-Ali has vowed to remain in his job and “steer the ship to the conclusion of this journey” after the team’s first competitive match ended in a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Group E opponents Delaclava at the RTC Under-18 World Cup.

Speaking to assembled journalists following the disastrous match at the SCOIL Polynesia Stadium in Honolulu, Starcom, al-Ali responded to calls on social media that he quit by insisting that he has the full confidence of the Adab Football Association, as well as senior national team manager Saad Kaykali, and that he will not resign.

“This is our very first match,” al-Ali told the journalists. “If one bad result can cause the manager to quit, what kind of precedent will that set for future managers? That will have a terrible effect on the stability of the team.

“I have been handed this mission by the AFA and Saad Kaykali, and I will not quit on them or abandon them.”

The match started out well for Adab and Delaclava, with both teams trading possession and testing the waters. But a mistake by Naram-Sin Samanu in the 14th minute sent the ball rolling to Margons Kraulis, who proceeded to smash his way through the Adab defense before passing the ball to forward and captain Mathias Gretler, who slotted it home with an impressive strike that sent Adab keeper Akurgal Shulgi tumbling to the grass in search of the ball.

Adab’s woes increased in the 27th minute, as Delaclava doubled their lead thanks to Gregg Simmons who broke through a wall of Adab defenders as he converted a Timothy Mitchell corner into a header to the back of the net, with Shulgi just a little too slow to react.

Gretler once again found the Adab net in the 39th minute with a shot from outside the penalty box to triple Delaclava’s lead. The Adabian players, some of them visibly unnerved, spent the rest of the first half trying to maintain possession among themselves in their half of the pitch, abandoning any attempts to counterattack.

Mitchell’s turn to shine came in the 51th minute, as he saw an opening in the Adab defense and fired from halfway between the center circle and the penalty box, his shot curving down nicely towards the Adab goal as Shulgi was once again too slow to catch it.

Perhaps accepting that the match was a lost cause, the Adabians spent the rest of the match going into ultra-defense mode, with all eleven players at some points inside or near the penalty box. Though they held on well for another twenty minutes, Sayer Aylmer broke through in the 74th minute and shot the ball past the goal line for the fifth Delaclava goal of the match.

In their best counterattack attempt – and one that was sorely missing for much of the match – Nadje Barzani produced a consolation goal for the Adabians in the 85th minute, tricking Delaclava keeper Finian Cloarec into going left as she fired to the right. But by then it was too little, too late.

Young Tigers claim victory in close encounter
The U18 World Cup being hosted by Xanneria and Starcom Racing was the first tournament where Bollonich’s U-18 squad would make their first appearance with attempts to impress ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games. As the U-18 World Cup was taking place side by side with the Di Bradini Cup or the U-21 World Cup players appearing in the U-18 World Cup are mainly inexperienced ones with none of them having made international appearances.
Being drawn into Group H with teams such Cassadaigua and Trolleborg, qualification would be difficult to achieve given the historical success of both teams especially with Cassadaigua finishing second in the latest Copa Rushmori and Trolleborg’s CMFA Melayu Archipelago Cup 8 win. Magnecia was the other team in Group H whose presence would be a wild card as despite not having status in the footballing world results against them could go either way.
Facing Magnecia in the first game, the Tigers were expected to clean up this game as there was a vast difference in quality. But the result hardly went as we would have hoped it would. Starting the game off in a positive manner we quick took control of possession and started to dominate the ball. Keeping more possession naturally meant us creating more chances. But putting away these chances seemed to be something we struggled at. In the 36th minute however we managed to break through the young defence from Magnecia. Ted Burns who received the ball from the defence made a run for it looking to break through the retreating defense. After making it close the the box he squared it to the left where the ball was received by Nannie Das who with a cracker of a shot put the ball in putting the Bollonischian U18s 1-0 up. Going into half time this lead of one goal would be crucial as this would be a huge source of motivation for the players. We didn’t stop off in intensity even in the second half as we continued to press on and pressurise Magnecia. Despite us having the upper hand in the game it was Magnecia who came back into the game with a gaol scored against play but a goal nonetheless. This was worrying for our prospects as we only had around 15 minutes to score the winning goal. It was the 88th minute that we pulled ahead again and this time through 17 year old Ralph Lawrence who used his height to his advantage putting in a great header from a corner.
This victory was a crucial one as with harder games to come against Cassadaigua and Trolleborg we had managed to pick up three very important points.

Tumbra 9-1 Garbelia; Defending Champions Run Riot As Title Defence Begins

MYRTLE - Sporting an all-new lineup from their victorious run in Zeta Reka 2 years ago, the Tumbran U-18 team got their title defence off to a vigorous start as they handily defeated Garbelia's U-18 team by eight goals; scoring nine and conceding one as the team made waves on the first day of the fourteenth edition of the U18 World Cup.

With all of the players free agents or on youth contracts, yet to be signed professionally by any clubs in Tumbra — as seems to be a running tradition with Tumbran U-18 squads (manager Toby Barton confirmed that it was his "plan as long as he was manager of the U18 side"), the match and tournament as a whole will also serve as a launching pad for some of these players' careers. Still fresh in the memory of many, victory in Zeta Reka led to defensive midfielder and breakout star Trudy Harrison being signed by Chromatik. The other breakout star of that tournament, Stephen Kerr, already an academy product at Straton, later signed professionally; he broke into the first team before being lured away to Chromatika as well.

Such are the dizzying heights that players may achieve; and with the world's attention being turned towards Tumbra; both for the quality of its football players and recent political schemes to expand northwards into an area officially referred to as the Northlands. This tournament may well prove to be a launching point for many a career. And with female players outnumbering male players for the first time on a Tumbran national team, too, this squad marks several steps forward for the gradual equality movement of Tumbran football.

Names to look out for include Charlotte Henshaw, a mercurial striker who scored three in the match against Garbelia, with her second goal involving a 30-yard dribble before a placed shot past the Garbelian goalkeeper; fraternal twins Henry and Felicity Woodhouse, who play in goal and on the left; Natalie Coleman, a spirited and creative attacking midfielder with an eye for goal; and defensive pair Stephanie and Laurence Pearson, who are cousins.

Of the six, Coleman provided two goals and two assists throughout the match, with her dribbling being a particular highlight. Henry Woodhouse's goalkeeping strengths proved important, as the Garbelians fought valiantly to come back from an ever-increasing margin of victory. Felicity Woodhouse scored a goal in the dying stages of the match, springing in from the left to pop up in the box; while Stephanie and Laurence Pearson both worked together remarkably well on the right side of defence to nullify the Garbelian offence as well.

The nine-one scoreline perhaps flattered Tumbra; at least two of the nine goals were a result of goalmouth scrabbles. But a win was a win — and Tumbra now have a target primed to their back as they seek to escape a group containing regional rivals Sylestone and the victors of the twelfth edition of the competition, Hispinas. Of course, with the group stage being a double round-robin, Tumbra will face the Young Otters again; and there is no doubt they will be out for revenge.

"A win, especially by this margin, is very welcome — but our attentions now must be focused on the next game. This is a long group stage, and we have to remain focused throughout it; if we are to repeat the feat two years ago, we cannot afford to slip up," said Barton after the game. "But we have the potential here to try and bring something back to Tumbran football that's been missing for a while — and that's winning."

Winning will be a very welcome sight in Tumbran international football, especially since the main international team is currently on a nine-game winless streak dating back to the last match of World Cup 88 qualifying, when they beat Gyatso-kai 1-3.

Mathias Magic in full effect as Delaclava rolls over Adab to open U18WC

It's fair to say that the whereabouts of Mathias Gretler have been a relative mystery for the past two years.

Then 16, the dynamic and crafty striker was an overhyped bust as the Ashlings sunk in Zeta Reka and Hugeltaldom, but with a contract wrapped up with Real Gardaresso in Tequilo, his future was safe and he took, to be little heard from for the coming months. And yet it turns out, he's found a whole new inter-dimension to his game.

Gretler scored two goals in the first 40 minutes of the game as the Delaclava under-18 team dominated Adab for a 5-1 victory to open the 14th RTC World Cup in the Kingdom of Starcom.

It was speculated that a team largely comprised of locked-out players may find the transition to game speed difficult, but the Ashlings were all hunger and no rust. Their manager, Cleopatrana SC coach Baghdasar Parsamyan, had high praise for his charges after the game: "They all were picked for their talents, there is no surprise there. But they got after it with an intensity that usually takes years to develop, a lifetime if ever to teach. The team mood is very positive now and we all are looking forward to more where that came from."

Gregg Simmons, a Verceolan who left Coldwater to take a leadership role with B-league side Triniteras Pride, made a triumphant return to this competition with a 27th-minute header off a corner, tucked in between Gretler's 14th and 39th minute strikes.

TImothy Mitchell, who is expected to play a big factor in Luton FC's push towards the top league this year, directed that corner to Simmons and got his own goal with a long-range attempt in the 51st minute. Mitchell was named Man of the Match by both FenixFooty and DSGN.

Sayer Aylmer, who joins Ossiana FC this year, completed the scoring in the 74th minute after a long period of success by the Adabian defense to stem the flow of offense. Nadje Barzani put an end to the clean sheet of Finlan Cloarec and company in the 85th minute. Cloarec largely withstood the handful of counterattacks from Adab and finished with three saves.

The main tactical doubt about this squad was Parsamyan's use of a 2-6-2 formation, necessitated by Delaclava's recent proclivity of producing mainly midfield talent. However, the six men in the middle divided their duties and spread the field well. The eagerly anticipated number-10, Unioneers (EUR) prospect Rogier Wijnberg, did not register a goal on his own but created a lot of pressure and penetration through his ball distribution, which ultimately wore down the Adab defense. Marcel Vledder and Rodas Soria saw valuable action in the closing stages of the game, replacing Wijnberg and Mitchell respectively. While Parsamyan's choice of formation was largely forced by the hand he was dealth, the tactics nevertheless showed a high degree of versatility and mnre options than Adab knew what to do with.

Delaclava next faces Kohnhead, who likewise opened with a 2-0 victory over Malandrin. Pundit and casual alike would know better than to get their hopes up on one performance, but curious minds will certainly be watching nonetheless.

FORMATION / FORMACION

STYLE OF PLAY / ESTILO DE JUEGO
Style Modifier: -0.75
Description: Unlike the senior team which plays attacking football, the under-18 team has a 4-5-1 defensive formation with focus on finding openings for counter-attacks. In some cases, a more attacking 4-3-3 formation is used, though they still focus on defense and keen on retaining ball possession. Similar to the national team, they also employ emphasis on attacks from the flanks, with their speedy side midfielders advancing to the wings when a counter-attack is initiated.

Most likely to:
Score penalties: Zozaya, Contreras, Markotegi
Score a direct free kick: Markotegi, Contreras, Gatika
Concede a penalty: Akordagoitia, Barrero, Valenciano
Booked for short temper: Custodio, Etxauri, Zozaya

OFFICIAL KITS / EQUIPOS OFICIALES
Provided by Harrokeria from Vallezul. Bring on the swag.
The underage football squads of Hispinas uses a different kit from the senior national team, usually, the kits used by the senior team will be handed down to them in case the kits get updated every 3 World Cups.

Under-18 WC: Clubs slammed by Escobar for poor scouting
Lack of 16 years and younger in U18 squad 'concerning' for Hispinas' future in football

MANDRID - Football consultant Iago Escobar has criticized the football clubs around Hispinas for their sub-par scouting for youth players after the squad list for the Under-18 World Cup was released, where all the Hispino players were aged 17 and 18 years old only. Escobar stressed that it is imperative for clubs to unearth hidden gems from their cities and towns as early as 9 or 11 years old, and have them play under their academy or school systems upon age 15 or 16. The lack of promising youth players has Escobar concerned for Hispinas' future in football despite the Under-18s having won a previous U18 World Cup, and the senior team achieving another podium finish in the regional Copa Rushmori.

Several of the clubs refused to comment on the situation, although based from some of the clubs which responded to Escobar's comments, especially FC Cebuenas, the officials of the club has declared its commitment to improving the grassroots program of the nation as they wanted their club to be as basis for other clubs to follow. Cebuenas is considered by many as the football hotbed of Hispinas, and it should not be hard for the club to scout the promising youth players who want to play for the club in the near future, given that foreign clubs may soon bid for players in the senior squad who are playing in the La Liga Hispinas, and follow the footsteps of Casimiro Coro, the first Hispino football player export since Escobar himself who claims to have played domestic football in Gergary.

The U18 squad, still led by Marguerita Morea, will have the defending champions Tumbra in Group D, as well as Sylestone and Garbellia. Foreign news outlets such as IFA News Network from Indusse have already written off the Junior Sealions to be eliminated, given that the previous edition, they failed to defend their title after crashing out of the group stages thanks to a defeat to BohemiaIV. However, the group stages this time has six matches, and teams will face their opponents twice. Morea is believed to be in hot water if another group stage exit would doom the Hispinos this time around.

Greetings, compatriots!
It’s TTV from Xanneria. Unfortunately, with bad news – U18 Cups proved themselves as places where our youths cannot show off their skills properly and use full potential. It's not that our team played poorly in the duel with Cassadaigua, or that the coach made a mistakes with the line-up, although, perhaps, he didn't guess right with a two or three players. It's just that an accident is an accident, nothing really depends on us, mere mortals. We can do what we think is necessary to improve our chances, but ultimately it’s luck. In this game, we haven’t a lot of it.

You all see the game, so it’s not needed to repeat and rewing every event on the field. Let’s concentrate on the game as a whole. In general, lads showed a good quality of the game. All the players moved quickly, tried to perform the functions and actions prescribed to them, which we are used to seeing in a polished form performed by the players of the national team. But they were a little out of balance due to the tremendous pressure and therefore make inaccuracies in the passes and sometimes did not what they should have done. Team also lacked the spark that one or another player of our national team brings, some ingenious move that will immediately change the situation on the field, for example a pass cut off five players of the opposing team or long ball bring the forward to a striking position where no one is waiting for him. It should be noted, however, that all our stars entered the field wearing national team shirts as mature footballers. And the same Valgren or Troger, as we remember them in their youth, did not stand out in anything special at the age of 18, probably they will not selected for the U18 squad at all. And Morten Trogil, deservedly considered an outstanding representative of the coaching class, and, probably, our best coach of the last twenty years, did not always know how to find a way to properly organize the game despite having such a great players on hand – let’s remember the unpleasant days of WCQ85, failures at all regional tournaments, loud criticism of his new tactics... It seems to us, however, that the contours of the style of play that will delight the world community are visible. Even if the players from Cassadaigua were in one episode faster for a half a second in two moments, and this was enough for them to win - all is not lost yet, this is the good side of the two-round tournament. Yes, the return to youth football turned out to be not at all as rosy as we had hoped from the experience of the first try. But we need to wait with conclusions until the end of the tournament. And maybe even longer: given that none of our players has reached the age of 18, most of them have the opportunity to get to the next tournament, while having valuable experiense and add something to their skill this year - you can do a lot in the development of a football player in a year at their age. Let's wish luck to our lads, they really need it!

MD1: Baker Park 4-4 Chromatika

What more could Edith Fillar do?

After scoring a hat trick in the second half of their match against Baker Park, Edith was exasperated. They'd conceded four times as well, meaning that Sarah's goal was needed to get that tie at the end of the day. What was their problem?

Time and time again, the Chromatik backfield broke down, and Baker Park did their thing to punish them for it. In this six-game slog of a group stage, they would need to improve on that, and make sure it happened fast enough to count.

A Marmaa squad that tied hosts Starcom Racing will prove to be a different kind of test.

They simply must do better.

BABY HAWTHORNS DEFEAT HISPINAS, FACE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

Sylestone vs Hispinas @ Pfluger Stadium, Austin, Xanneria

Sylestone (4-4-2): Macleay; Ross ( 35’) (McDonald 78’) - Nutt - Alleyne ( 64’) - Johnstone; Seekamp; Doyle (Wallace 71’ ( 87’)) - Lawson; Love; R Strathfield ( 21’) - E Strathfield (Blamey 86’)

Hispinas (4-5-1): E Etxauri; G Valenciano - E Aroix (K Arenaza 61’) - A Akordagoitia - S Barrero ( 39’); E Markotegi (H Uriarte 76’); M Custodio (E Felipe 83’) - E Gatika - E Contreras - B Galicia; X Zozaya ( 25’)

AUSTIN, XANNERIA - The Baby Hawthorns have begun their campaign in the 14th Under-18 World Cup with a bright start, in a surprisingly solid defensive effort over Hispinas en route to a 1-0 victory. The two sides were relatively equal, with Sylestone only edging their opponents out on possession 54% to 46%. However, it was the goal to star forward Riley Strathfield that set the two nations apart in the end, making a strong start to what could certainly be called the group of death.

Hispinas forward Xabi Zozaya produced the first chance of the game in the 14th minute, but his run past Sarah Alleyne and Alexander Nutt in the centre-defence was cut short by a slide-tackle from Kayla Johnstone, running in from the wing to take the ball off him.

After this moment, the Baby Hawthorns’ defence got their act together and proceeded to hold Zozaya off, despite being entrenched in there and always looking ominous. However, it did not stop him from breaking through again in the 25th minute, but this time, the two centre-backs continued to jockey him, frustrating the centre-forward and eventually resulting in a yellow card to the Hispino and abruptly ending the offensive.

Sylestone’s first proper opportunity came in the 36th minute, despite multiple good passes from the midfield that neither Strathfield twin could latch onto. However, a cross from Rachel Doyle deflected off the head of Evan Strathfield was too good for Ederna Etxauri, who could only get a fingertip to the ball as it bounced into the left corner of the net, putting Sylestone 1-0 up.

But no. Replays showed that instead, when Doyle released her cross, Strathfield was at least a foot offside and as a result, the goal was disallowed. Back to the drawing board it was.

Not for long, though. Following a yellow card to Silvestre Barrero in the 39th minute, Harry Love handed himself the task of taking the resulting free-kick and curled the ball over the wall, to where Adam Seekamp and defender Atzo Akordagoitia were jostling. The latter headed the ball directly into the air, where Love was able to run back in and volley it towards the goal. However, it was a poor kick, as it appeared to be directly on track for Etxauri’s arms.

If Riley Strathfield didn’t exist. As soon as the set piece was taken, he ran halfway between the goal and the rest of the players, leaving himself purely unmarked. When Love volleyed the ball towards the goal, Strathfield had got himself in perfect alignment with the angle of the shot, backheeling it up and over Etxauri’s head and into the net. A brilliant piece of skill from the 18-year-old, and it was 1-0 Sylestone.

Half-time came and went but before long, a rejuvenated Hispinas were back on goal. A cross in from Martin Custodio fell to the feet of Bastien Galicia, who took the shot from about five metres away, but Ryan Macleay was ready, deflecting the shot over the crossbar to keep the lead and make possibly the best save of the game.

This was the last proper chance Hispinas had, although 40 minutes still remained in the match. From the 60th minute onwards, Sylestone’s defence remained strong and only on occasion did a Hispino midfielder or forward was able to break through and whenever that occurred, at least two players confronted them and ensured that they would not pressure Macleay in goals too much. While, yes, they did every now and again go in a bit too hard and procure a foul or even occasionally a card, it worked. Hispinas could not score.

As for the Baby Hawthorns, they only had one more proper chance, with a relatively open shot at goal from Jack Lawson in the 78th minute being deflected past the right goalpost by a diving Etxauri, keeping the Hispinas hopes alive just for a brief moment. However, in the final fifteen minutes of the match, neither side could break through one final time and as a result, Sylestone came away with a 1-0 win against the champions of four years ago. An impressive result, if any.

However, they would need to play even better if they were to beat the defending champions and regional rivals, Tumbra. Especially after their side, despite apparently not being as strong as they were two years ago, were still good enough to take down the Garbelian under-18s by nine goals to one. After that sort of performance, it isn’t hard to see a massive Sylestonean loss just around the corner. But really, you can never know, can you?

SYLESTONE - 1
R Strathfield 40’

HISPINAS - 0
-no scorers-

Predicted Starting XI vs Tumbra @ Sierra Stadium, Myrtle:
Macleay; Ross - Nutt - Archer - Johnstone; Seekamp; Wallace - Lawson; Love (c); R Strathfield - E Strathfield

Controversy as Græntfjall youth ‘take the knee’

The decision of several members of Græntfjall’s youth football team at the World Cup in Starcom Racing to ‘take the knee’ prior to their opening game against Muralos, has drawn severe criticism, especially from the unfortunate man they took the knee from. “Give it back!” he cried as he hobbled along chasing after reserve goalkeeper Hervarður Alexandersson and substitute midfielder Harmony Serpentmane, after they decided to take the knee. At time of press, it is unclear what the youths intend to do with the knee, or which body part they intend to take next.

Young Maroons draw Indian States 0-0 after potluck gone awry!
excerpt from http://www.xtrasports.xan/u18wc.htm

DOMINICA CITY, For a lot of the players on the squad of the Under 18 world cup Xannerian squad, playing in the capital city of Dominica City is a dream. But also five players for the Maroons, did not take to the field after a celebratory diner turned wrong in Northshore. A city festival to honor the Under 18 World Cup participants went awry when some under cooked fish fresh from the shores of Mriin was ingested by multiple players on the Young Maroons squad. The Potluck diner was part of a larger festival put on in the Northshore community of Dominica City as the annual "Festival of Cultures". The F O C is a renowned festival where all the immigrant communities of Xanneria come together to celebrate what makes them great. They had a special potluck to honor the young U18 WC team members. This went awry though as the Mrii community of Xanneria had mistakenly undercooked some usually, tasty fish. This lead to five players of the Maroons team to miss time. Both Tyson Oglethorpe, Bradley Harrison, Keeper Alex Cuthbert, and the Platte twins all suffered food poisoning before the game. Along with them coach Gary Schroeder also fell ill.

The game was then marred by sloppy play from both sides, a seemingly common issue with the Xannerians so far. A goal by Jeffrey Platte has been the only goal scored in either game and even then there are conspiracy theories popping up all along the shores of Esportiva which will be talked about during the second half of the tournament. Up next is the first game versus Pemecutan, a team coming off of a 4-1 win over RIS and a 0-0 draw with Abahnfleft.

And in sporting news, A tough start to the RTC Under 18 World Cup 14 for the Mertagnian team, as they played their first game to a loss at the Inland Seafood Sailors Memorial Stadium in Houff, Starcom Racing. Their loss came against Srednjaci, by way of a goal in each half from Mandulić and Jakobović of Srednjaci. Their second game, which finished just moments ago, also resulted in a 1-0 loss against Indusse. The team is going to need to capture some momentum if they want to avoid finishing last in the group...

"Could you turn that damn thing off?"

"Absolutely not Grant, I'm getting the news about my son's tournament."

It was long after dark, and the two men rolled around in their respective bunks in the blackness. The pale moonlight, what little of it was present, shone through the bars of the windows onto the pale stone wall.

"How did your son even get into a football tournament, anyway? It's not like your family is well to do or anything."

The man in the top bunk sighed before turning around towards the centre of the cell.

"Hard work, Grant. They've got special school initiatives for that nowadays. A lot of the bigger clubs are trying to cultivate future players. My Graham is one of the best at Dannin Academy."

A rustling of low quality sheets saw Grant flip around, as the squeak of a long rusted weather vane blew in the nighttime breeze.

"To be honest, Spud, you'd be saying that if he was the worst. Still, he's probably doing better than his old man if he's only stealing the ball instead of cars, eh?"

Spud winced. A wrong move that had put him in the wrong place at the wrong time had revealed his less than legitimate business, and now he had been forced to spend the last several years sharing a shoddy cell with Grant.

"We didn't have the luxury of going to fancy football school, Grant. World's got a bit better now since we were boys. Not that we're allowed to see it."

A slow drip began to fall from the sink inside the cell. The torch of a guard beamed in through the slit in the locked door. Grant - the hulking mass of a man on the bottom bunk, stood up and met eyes with Spud, who was clutching the radio to his ear.

"That's something I've been meaning to ask you about, actually. What would you do if I told you there might be a way we can see it?"

Victory against Trolleborg eludes us as streak continues into the U18 World Cup
Trolleborg was a team we had faced twice in our short history as a nation in footballing tournaments. Being drawn with Trolleborg in World Cup Qualifying we faced them once at home and once away losing both times by a narrow margins. The U-18 team now had gotten the chance extract revenge for the national team by defeating the young players from Trolleborg. Trolleborg’s attractive attacking style of football had come face to face with our own high tempo passing playing style. Going into the match it seemed like the clash between the two teams would be a very interesting clash between two teams with similar playing styles. Starting the game off both teams tried to attack each other however neither managed to get the ball too far in each others’ half with most forward pushes breaking down shortly afterwards. Despite the lack of chances in the first half things came to life in the second half as with both teams tiring and dynamic substitutions chances became more common for both sides as a goal seemed on the agenda for both teams. But the question was who would score first and as had been seen in previous matches with Trolleborg if they score first they win. What we had to do was not concede and score the deadlock breaking goal. Things however soon started going wrong for us, with the first event being conceding a free kick from what appeared to be minimal contact. Being awarded a free kick 25 yards away from the goal, Trolleborg had a very good chance of producing a scoring opportunity. The free kick which was taken by Hasnes Halst but the ball into the box which was then headed by Andenes Hovden who’s header was saved by a scrambling Attwater. Going out for a corner a curving cross put it into the box was surprisingly missed by everyone until it fell to the feet of defender Morten Grengesberg who’s shot hit the arm of Bollonischian defender Layne Jenkins. Despite looking like an unintentional handball, the referee awarded Trolleborg with a penalty without any hesitation at all. And to add onto the misery, Martin Schlagmann a South Newlandian referee sent off Jenkins for handling the ball in the area and preventing a gaol opportunity. Devastated the Bollonischians were shocked and surrounded the referee in complain however he was having none of it and even handed out yellow cards to captain and vice-captain, Nannie Das and Evelyn Triggs who had been the main voices in the complaining. Trolleborgian striker Andenes Hovdenstood up to the penalty spot for a chance to put Trolleborg ahead and that’s what he did. And the goal from the penalty spot was the only goal of the game as Trolleborg took the 3 points and stood at equal points with us. This game had seen a number of questionable decisions from South Newlandian referee Martin Schlagmann which could be said to have led to the Bollonischians losing the game however the Trolleborgian players had also shown their immense talent and skill in overcoming the Bollonischians.

Adab demolish Malandrin

The Adab under-18 national team received a much-needed boost to second place in Group E of the RTC Under-18 World Cup with a 0-6 flattening of Malandrin U18, mirroring the senior team’s recent triumph over Malandrin at the Independents Association Championship 13.

The Adab under-18 team had started the tournament on the wrong foot, going down 5-1 against Delaclava, and went into the Malandrin match at the SCOIL Polynesia Stadium in Starcom no doubt wanting to prove themselves, as well as follow in the footsteps of the senior team, who had beaten Malandrin 4-3 at their IAC first stage meeting Saturday. The players were not the only ones desiring to prove themselves; under-18 manager Faisal al-Ali came under fire following the disastrous Delaclava match, but has kept up an optimistic outlook and insisted that he has what it takes to lead the squad.

Tonight, the young Adabians would more than prove themselves against Malandrin.

The Adabians were in control the entire match, with their Malandrin opponents struggling to match their pace or outmaneuver them whenever they battled for the ball. Nadje Barzani became the first name to feature on the scoreboard 14 minutes into the match, receiving the ball from Naram-Sin Samanu and dribbling it straight into the penalty box, with her opponents finding themselves no match for her deft, skillful footwork as Barzani easily slotted the ball past REDACTED to the bottom corner of the net.

Omar Abbas put Adab up by two goals just eleven minutes later, slipping past a barely-formed wall of Malandrin defenders to hammer the ball home with a powerful strike from the right wing after having the ball passed to him by Dasia Khoury, with REDACTED unable to turn their attention quick enough from Khoury to Abbas.

Khoury’s time to shine came in the 34th minute, as she converted Hafez Jafar’s corner into a header straight into the net, beating several Malandrin players who had crowded her in an attempt to gain control over the airborne ball.

Malandrin’s misery only increased in the second half, with Barzani – perhaps the brightest prospect of the under-18 team – adding to her goal tally in epic fashion in the 47th minute, greeting Samanu’s ball with a bicycle kick that caught her opponents off-guard, leaving them gazing in stunned amazement as the ball slammed onto the back of the net. REDACTED could have prevented the ball from going in as it was in their direct path, if only they had not thrown themself onto the grass, which they later claimed was done out of instinct at seeing just how quick the ball was coming at them.

Despite already being up by four goals, the Adabians refused to ease on their opponents, continually pounding Malandrin’s defense, evidently eager to exorcise the ghost of their 5-1 defeat against Delaclava. With Malandrin providing no answer to the Adabians’ offense, it was almost inevitable that Samanu would produce Adab’s fifth goal of the match in the 65th minute, blasting the ball past a visibly tiring REDACTED.

The final nail in the coffin came from Mesannepada Simbarsipak in the 79th minute, as he converted a Hafez Jafar corner into a splendid strike that went right past REDACTED’s shoulder on its way to the top corner of the net, but by then the Malandrin players had long lost their vitality and enthusiasm.

The victory put Adab in second place in Group E, below Delaclava. Delaclava lead the group with 6 points, while Adab are tied with Kohnhead at 3 points, with Adab pulling ahead on goal difference. Malandrin sit on last place with zero points. Adab will next meet Kohnhead for their third match of the tournament on Thursday, June 29.

SPORT: BACK TO EARTH
Tumbra 1-1 Sylestone; Hardworking Hawthorns Inspire Comeback Draw As Junior Eagles Held

MYRTLE - Regional rivalries seem to be a bit of a sticking point for Tumbra at the moment, and this match continued the winless streak; for the Junior Eagles of Tumbra were brought back down to earth by the dogged defence of the hardworking Hawthorns of Sylestone. As much as the phrase has lost most meaning in the modern game, "a game of two halves" was an apt descriptor of the match; and manager Toby Barton, fittingly, used the phrase himself in his post-match press conference.

Tumbra dominated the first half, and were looking good to score several goals if not for the presence of Sylestonean defender Lauren Archer, who confidently made multiple tackles to dispossess Charlotte Henshaw. Despite this, Felicity Woodhouse, playing on the left, would break the deadlock early; in similar fashion to her goal against Garbelia, she would cut in from the left and finish on her right foot, to the wonderment of the spectators of the match.

The efforts of Archer, who would later win Player of the Match, would keep the Tumbrans off balance for most of the first half; she was so effective at marking Charlotte Henshaw that she barely registered a shot on target in the last fifteen minutes of the half. Manager Toby Barton also praised the young defender, saying that she displayed "a lot of maturity" and "rightly dominated the defence today." Outside her presence in her third of the pitch, however, Tumbra kept most of the ball; but were unable to find a way through and find the second goal that would have given the Junior Eagles a bit of a safety barrier before the half-time break.

Tumbra would later begin the second half on the attacking foot; however, a revitalised Sylestone offence would force Tumbra onto the back foot. The gamechanging moment would come when Riley Strathfield scored off a header off a corner for the Hawthorns; thereafter the momentum of the game would shift irrevocably in the Hawthorns' direction, with them now dominating possession and forcing the Tumbrans into playing a lower defensive line. Late substitutions for Natalie Coleman and Gerard Deighton would prove to be of little use; the game ended 1-1, but deservingly so for the Hawthorns, who are now level on 4 points with Tumbra.

Speaking after the match, Barton did not blame any of the players specifically, but instead fired a general warning in their direction, saying that "the team cannot afford to be complacent anymore" and "9-1 wins are an anomaly, not something that happen everyday, and we have to realise this." Playing a heavily rotated second side, however, some criticism was also levelled at Barton after the match, with BannerSports reporter Joanna McKinley questioning Barton on him rotating out much of the eleven which started against Garbelia. Barton's answer, while curt, revealed that he had intended to rotate the squad — after all, these were young footballers — and they could not be overexerted.

Barton is expected to field another rotated lineup against the winners of the 12th edition of the competition, Hispinas, in Austin; the last match in a first half of a competition which is rapidly shaking up to be less and less of a cakewalk with each passing hour.

Young Græntfjallers support mental health awareness

Græntfjall’s youth football team came out in support of the decision of Raspotochje’s goalkeeper to sit out the Under-18 World Cup tie in Starcom Racing in order to focus on mental health. “I think it’s definitely the right decision for them to step away at this time,” said Laura Sævarsdóttir as she fired the ball into the empty net. “Bravo.”

“I just want to say, I think this is something to be really applauded,” said Viðar Emiliosson as he calmly side-footed the ball into the yawning mouth of the goal 11 minutes later. Sara Vatnarsdóttir was quick to voice her agreement with the stand. “Mental health is very important and sporting events should never come before wellness and wellbeing. For such a young person to be a world leader on this issue is really commendable.” By this time she’d finished lining up her free-kick and wanged it straight into the undefended goal.

More support continued to pour in, led by Klængur Ulfarsson just moments after the second half kicked off. Rising to meet a corner, the junior team captain headed the ball, untroubled, into the empty net. “It’s a wonderful gesture and everyone on our team is totally behind their decision,” he said, adding: “It’d be an even wonderfuler gesture if they did it next match, too.”

Not to be left out, Sigurbjörn Sigtryggsson signalled his agreement by driving a long-range shot straight into the center of the goal, where there was of course no one waiting to block it, as a semiotic act of solidarity with those absenting themselves for mental health awareness reasons, though it is unclear how his fist-pumping, groin-thrusting celebration relates to this.

Delaclava blanks Kohnhead, surges ahead at U18WC

Mathias Gretler and Marcel Vledder scored goals for the Delaclava under-18 national team as they defeated their Kohnhead counterparts 2-0 and moved into first place of Group E at the 14th U18 World Cup in Starcom.

Delaclava dominated possession with 62% and although the game Kohnhead defense managed to keep the game relatively in hand, the Phoenixes never looked troubled. Gretler opened the scoring in the 17th minute as Rogier Wijnberg advanced near the penalty circle, drawing forward defenders and firing a superb leading pass that Gretler ran onto and buried after just one touch.

The Phoenixes were awarded 15 corners during the game, but with just one starter - right back Kai Thomson - at six feet tall, the Phoenixes were hard-pressed to make anything of those opportunities. The key maneuver was for Parsamyan to remove Margons Kraulis for 6-foot-2 Vledder in the 67th minute, a substitution that showed Parsamyan's desire to put at least one more goal on the board. Vledder found his moment in the 74th minute, fighting off two Kohnhead defenders to rise up and redirect the corner from Gregg Simmons down and into the back of the net.

The tournament's technical board named Wijnberg the Man of the Match, a decision corroborated by most Delaclav outlets including FenixFooty.

"It was another solid performance today," Parsamyan lauded after the game. "They faced a little more resistance, a team who wouldn't let them score at will, but they kept working the system and got all the goals they needed... If our senior team ever played like this, maybe we'd have made an AOCAF knockout stage by now."

As Parsamyan alluded, Delaclava did not have too much difficulty in their first game against Adab, but the 5-1 drubbing aged quite well as the Adabian squad rebounded with their own blowout of Malandrin, ending a 6-0 affair. On the one hand, it shows the strength of a team that Delaclava was able to put away convincingly. On the other hand, Adab clearly has the skill to get payback on the Ashlings in the rematch; that leaves plenty to play for in the coming days.

Delaclava next get that same plucky yet malnourished Malandrin squad, who is most notable for submitting fraudulent paperwork for World Cup 88 (albeit, none of which included a list of players), while Adab and Kohnhead will square off in the hopes of taking clear second place.
