"They've all had a long season in the CFL and the NSCF and deserve a game off," he stated, "Our backups should be able to handle Malandrin, and even if they don't, we have still qualified for playoffs and will be fine."
Some pundits across Chromatika have taken offense at the statement. Gridiron columnist Mark Nasair of the Z'ai'ai Times admonished, "The Iron Legion have so much work to do if they are to take down any quality opposition in the playoffs, and this lack of knowledge of where they stand against the rest of the world is a great cause for concern. They will absolutely lose in the Round of Sixteen at this rate."
Others have praised Hampton for his call. Kris Appleton, the Head Sports Editor of the Eagle's Roost, a newspaper from Qet, comments, "It takes a great coach to know how much his players have been pressed. Hopefully by resting the starters, Chromatika will be even better equipped for the journey to come."
Jill Kieran will get the start, with James Morreau being the running back, Pouncey Jones and Vance Limeau from the receiving core and Kathryn Nance from the tight end position. on defense, Nolan Marr will take the position occupied by Mi-Hyeon Park and hope that Victoria Mio and Larry Oyama will be able to handle the receivers.
Malandrin is a team that has only scored 111 points through 6 games while conceding 225. Even with the starters sitting out, the Iron Legion are the heavy favorites.
"Hopefully, we'll be able to increase our Point Differential and secure a good seed as one of the better second-placed teams," said Kieran.
Sanar Battalion
5-9. 5-9. 4-10. Perennial bottom feeders, the Battalions play smashmouth football but aren't very good at it. With a new Head Coach and some different players, maybe they'll have a better shot in Season 4. Ronald Mimisimi is a good piece to build around.
Staramara Angels
5-9, 9-5, 9-5, but the Angels won the last title. With so much talent on defense, Staramara is the best team in the league. Six players in the Iron Legion squad. Some great offensive linemen and then all that talent on the defense, with Vi Nia-Kaid, Cara Setri, Nikolai Dimitrov, and Larry Oyama. A perennial contender to come.
