Schedule
  • RP cutoffs for the course of this tournament will be held in 22:00-midnight Korean Standard Time. For those wondering what this means, the rough conversion rate would be that it would mean 09:00-11:00 Eastern Standard Time.
  • Please note that there is a three day gap between the final matchday and the Play-In Round. This is because I will be visiting my grandmother, who lives on the other side of South Korea, and may require several days of being not as available as I'd be under normal circumstances. While I would have no trouble with computer/internet access while there, I would still like to play safe in case electricity concerns be raised at my grandmother's place. During those days, I will be available on NS forums and Discord at various points during the gap, but may take a bit longer with my responses.

Welcome to Quebec and Shingoryeo!

Located in Northwestern Anaia, Quebec and Shingoryeo is a nation known for its environment, rich cultural diversity and claims one of its region's most educated and cultured population. Led by Her Imperial Majesty, Christine II, the country is a semi-constitutional monarchy, with both the royalty and the democracy playing a huge role in Quebecois politics. With a high HDI rating and affluent economy, Quebec and Shingoryeo is an advanced nation with long years of peace and stability within the nation, while still allowing for societal and economic progress over the course of its history. With a beautiful environment, advanced economy, state-of-art infrastructure and love of association football, Quebec and Shingoryeo is your place to go for your once-in-a-lifetime voyage that welcomes every traveler with smile and cheer.

Being located far northwest, hockey is an extremely popular sport here, being played in almost every part of and by almost everyone in the country. Quebec Hockey League currently is the most international and financially successful of all the hockey leagues on Multiverse. Its Junior and collegiate levels of hockey are extremely well followed, with many teams regularly recording +10,000 people in attendance for games. More IC information is available via TG or PM upon signee's discretion.

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. Due to the relatively northern and isolated location of Iqaluit, it would be best to access the city via Iqaluit International Airport, one of the six major gateways to Quebec. Serving as the focus city of the Aeroquebec-Norsk Airline System (AQ-NAS) group, the airport has regularly scheduled flights mostly within Quebec, Anaia and Atlantian Oceania, but also have few flights, from thrice weekly to daily in frequency, to Rushmori and Esportivan centres as well.

As for other connections, to rest of the Nunavut province or Quebec, either plane or railway would be the best option.
If you intend to take the train from or to mainland Quebec, it is safe to assume you will take a bit longer. Various levels of services exist per speed, route and also the overnight availability (this option remains very popular in Quebec), and they are also extremely punctual/on-timerelatively punctual compared to other methods (one or two-hour delays are better than what you'd get in other options, with this bad of a weather), popularcramped (best option out of any right now) and frequent (one train per 30 minutes, with more coming due to demand), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Even with such situations the services in Quebec National Railways (QNR) are high-quality and well-maintained, so don't worry about your comfort while riding trains.

As for services coming out of Iqaluit, the services to Labrador City, Chicoutimi and eventually Quebec City and Montreal are available via following options:
  • MACH - Medium-Speed Service, Daytime services - 16:00-18:30 - 4x Daily between Quebec City Reneegrad and Iqaluit Central via Labrador City and Chicoutimi
  • Nightstar - Medium-Speed Service, Nighttime services - 13:00-14:30 - 2x Daily between Quebec City Reneegrad and Iqaluit Central via Labrador City and Chicoutimi

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Pound, with the exchange rate of $3 NS for 1 Quebecois pound. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol and certainly marijuana.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Pound (Q)

- Hotel: NS$60-600, Q$20-200
- Public transport in both cities: NS$3-9, Q1-3
- Average cost of food: NS$9-51, Q3-17
- Sports tickets: NS$45-540, Q15-180
- Bottle of water: NS$12, Q4 (Sale of bottled water itself is extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
- Alcohol: NS$15-150, Q5-50 per keg
- Public phone: NS$3 per 5-minute call, Q1 per call

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country. Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

Feel free to ask me for any questions if you have any in mind.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the World Cup of Hockey will be hosted, indigenous religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not really a thing for the Quebecois people.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without a provincial licence can lead to up to $30,000 NSD in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $150,000 NSD in fines and 5 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs.
Prostitution: Legal. People won't be talking about it, but will nod along.
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography (applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 7 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: 18
Legal age for alcohol: 14
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by Christine II and the Prime Minister. It is also be noted that I, at this point in time, have no interest in generating unrest in a tournament hosted by Quebec and Shingoryeo.

The Ministry of Sport and Recreation, as well as its internal body, the Imperial Sporting Council, has recently shifted from a nationwide to regional-based hosting system on the international tournaments hosted in Quebec and Shingoryeo, to promote easier, more environmentally-friendly travel, as well as fostering regional interest in a sport of concern. Thus, in a bid proposed by the Nunavut province, City of Iqaluit and Hockey Quebec, there will be one major city, Iqaluit, hosting the entire World Junior Hockey Championship 17.

Welcome to Iqaluit!

Welcome to Iqaluit! Located at the eastern half of the northernmost province of Quebec and Shingoryeo in Nunavut, Iqaluit was founded in 1871 under the Treaty of Iqaluit, where the indigenous peoples of the Quebecois north had signed a peaceful treaty with the rest of the Quebecois nation, to create an autonomous province that governs itself largely independent from Quebec City, but under the Quebecois banners. Gifted by its bay and the southernly location, meaning close access to the ocean, Iqaluit quickly developed as a major port city of Quebec, with the Royal Quebecois Navy and Coast Guards having established large bases just outside of it.

Its location and autonomy had meant that both the indigenous and the mainland people (also including the indigenous people of Mainland Quebec) would gradually move to the city, creating a large commercial centre where even those of the Quebecois Commonwealth (then Quebecois Empire, see: St. Jakob, Siovanija and Teusland, as a comparable example of migration). While the fisheries have slowed down and the Royal Quebecois Forces have reduced its personnel size in the city over the course of 21st century, the city has evolved itself welcoming itself to the 4th industrial revolution, with technology companies and environmental cooperatives coexisting to provide the rest of the nation and the country various blueprints of a sustainable future.

Today, Iqaluit is a city of 750,000, and still enjoys relative prosperity as the capital city of Nunavut province. While the province has stayed somewhat homogenous and socially conservative compared to the Mainland, most reflected by strict drug, alcohol and decency laws, one ought not deny the state of ethno-linguistic pluralism the city enjoys, whether it's in the universal fluency of Inuktitut by its residents or the strong presence of refugees who have made Quebec and Shingoryeo their home. Due to the arctic environment of Iqaluit, where the summers see average temperature of -20'C and winters (aka. right now) -40'c, the Iqaluit skyline features extensive web of skyscrapers and underground cities. The Nunavut North Stars, the sports organisation that represent the city, has been a consistently above average team in the Quebecois Hockey League, led by Brianne Kigatilik, the starting goaltender of the bronze-medal winning Quebecois national team back in World Cup of Hockey 40.

Due to its relative climate, Iqaluit is a compact city, but with many sights to be seen easily. The best bet is to go to two areas - the Old Port and the Downtown. The Old Port of Iqaluit, in use until 1987, is nowadays repurposed to a mostly-indoor area with night markets, pop-up restaurants, and the Arctic Museum and Gallery, while the Downtown features the Nunavut State Museum, the circular-shaped the Parliament House of Nunavut, and the City Gallery of Quebec, where the latest works of contemporary artists are welcomed with aggressive artist-in-residence competitions available. Iqaluit is a city of its own vision separate from Mainland Quebec, and brings its own character.

The latest and most evolutionary of the Quebecois hockey infrastructure is the Anaullagat Athletic Complex. A massive sports complex project that has taken past decade to build for the Nunavut North Stars organisation, it is a true, modern marvel of Quebecois engineering and sports system, not to mention its utility, with six multipurpose arenas, a full residential complex, and a major transit exchange located right next to it.

For the course of the tournament, four largest of the six arenas will be used. Each of them will be of large capacity, and WCoHF-regulation-sized ice (OOC: IIHF regulation=sized ice) which will feature all the matches during this tournament. While Hockey Quebec traditionally uses its own regulation-sized ice (OOC: NHL regulation-sized ice) for tournaments it hosts, it has decided to use the WCoHF regulation-sized ice for the Quebecois and other nations' players' early acclimation to international competitions, especially in case they may also be selected for the senior team ahead of World Cup of Hockey 42. While under normal circumstances this would mean costly measures to redesign seating capacity, the arenas themselves are technologically equipped to adjust their seats per convenience, and have had little trouble with the procedure. This would also mean that there would be greater emphasis on speed, creativity, and skills, with smaller players faring better than they would be under smaller ice.

The stadium's six arenas are named for the local sports heroes, dating as early as the mid-1900s. They are identified as Mary Wie Arena (Capacity: 6,000 - Arena 1), Tanuchulk Angutingurniq Arena (Capacity: 11,000 - Arena 2), Leonora Bertram Arena (Capacity: 16,000 - Arena 3), and Douglas Ootoova Arena (Capacity: 11,000 - Arena 4). As for their namesakes, this incorporates the city heritage of Iqaluit's sporting history as whole, not just that of its sporting heroes- Mary Wie was the captain of the Quebecois women's handball team that has won the Gold medal in 1990, 1994 and 1998 Quebecois Commonwealth Games, while Leonora Bertram's the long-time power forward of the Quebecois women's national basketball team in the 2020s and 2030s, who have placed second on International Basketball Championships 25 and third on 30, as well as fourth-place finish on the 2030 Novonaya-Provinsk Games. Tanuchulk Angutingurniq and Douglas Ootova were both the Quebecois Hockey League's superstars at different points, with Angutingurniq leading Kingston Knights' 1970s dynasty and Douglas Ootova the captain of Attawapiskat Avalanche's three title wins in 1990s and 2000s.

Located in middle of the Anaullagat District on the Western half of Nunavut's downtown, the Anaullagat Complex is located right next to the Anaullagat transport interchange, which provides connections to a dozen bus routes and all 4 Iqaluit Metro bus lines towards the rest of the Greater Iqaluit Area. The Line 1 of Iqaluit Metro, stretching 50km from north to south, offers passengers access to hotels and other forms of accommodations, while the Line 2, also known as the Circle Line, directly connects people to the Iqaluit Airport and the University of Iqaluit. Due to the temperature of the city, it is heavily advised to take public transportation when travelling within the city.

Athearan U-20 Ice Hockey Team

Type: Roster, Review
Time: A few days before the Tournament...

Welcome to the 17th edition of the WJHC, hosted in Quebec and Shingoryeo! The 17th of it's kind, the World Junior Hockey Championships is used as a ground to show the promising young hockey talent from all around the world. 24 teams will be participating, and only one will be crowned champions! To answer who will be the champions, this tournament will decide it all. Now, let's look at Atheara's hockey history, just a little bit, as some of you need context about Atheara when it comes to hockey.

Hockey is one of the most popular sports in Atheara, other than association football, tennis, and badminton. The U-20 Team Atheara sent for the 16th edition of the WJHC reached the Round of 20, where they proceded to get knocked out by Nova Anglicana with a score of 3 - 2 in Overtime. Each level of Professional Hockey in Atheara has 18 teams, with a promotion and relegation system. There is no league system for college hockey, however, there are single spin off tournaments hosted every so and then.

Because that the WJHC is hosted every two years in Athearan time (although time never really moves in the Athearan Universe), many players from the first edition of the team would not be able to play for Atheara in the WJHC, as you need to be below 20 years old to participate. Because of that, here is Atheara's roster. (Starters in bold)

Nation Name: The Allied States of Atheara
Short Name: Atheara
Demonym: Athearan
Aitherman in Germany
Anethegian in Norway
Aicelandic in Iceland
Alscotts in Scotland
Altic in the Baltics
Aolish in Poland
Annish in Finland
Aiswedic in Sweden
Athedanic in Denmark
Atherusian in Russia and Belarus

Note: These demonyms are used to reference the person's nationality from that region in Atheara, the original demonyms are still widely used, and only use these demonyms when a conversation about Atheara, and ONLY Atheara sparks up.

Sczornav was and is a recognizable figure in Athearan Hockey, one year before the 17th WJHC was announced, he had lead one of Atheara's Hockey Teams, the Whitesnow Wanderers, to a League Title, the third since their creation, 18 years back. He was also the Head Coach for the Northern Guards back in the 16th eidition of the WJHC. He is back, and hoping to help Atheara earn better.

Assistants:
Kevin Duras (35 y/o)
Andorrov Heughen (33 y/o)

Forwards:
31 Alexander Kurov (Starter, 19 y/o, Captain)

Now that we have the Athearan roster out of the way, it's time to discuss about the Groups. There are a total of 4 groups, of 6 nations each. As there are 24 teams participating. Atheara is put into Group C, here is the Group. This is to discuss about the possibilities of Atheara making it through the Group Stage, if Atheara can. All matches will be played in the Leonora Bertram Arena.

Group C - Leonora Bertram Arena
Siovanija & Teusland
Abanhfleft
Pratapgadh
Eshialand
Graintfjall
Atheara

Siovanija & Teusland could possibly be the biggest threat for qualification, as they are former World Junior Champions. Association Football rivals Eshialand are also in the group, so it's possible that both sides will bring their "El Recentico" football rivalry to the ice. Graintfjall and Abanhfleft are also very good teams, so that might be a challenge. The last name to be mentioned is Pratapgadh, a good team in their right. Overall chances for Atheara to qualify is a bit low, and that is expected. See you all soon.

Nova Anglicana U-20 World Junior Hockey Championship Roster

Head Coach: Tom Benson
Style Modifier: -0.5
Captain: Darren Gordon
Assistant Captains: Marc Broussard, Sean Harper

1st Line
RW Ricky McCoy, 19, University of King's College - he does everything hard (party, study, play hockey), but is possessed of a lot of raw talent too, needs to grow into his body
C Sean Harper, 19, Memorial University - steady, firm, even-keeled, potentially a future leader, but his on-ice abilities in passing and shooting are excellent too
LW Andre Messier, 19, University of New Brunswick - sharp-tongued Acadien chirps at his opponents, but silences them with his wicked shot and skating abilities

2nd Line
RW David Manning, 19, St. Stephen's University - this is the potential line, and it begins with Manning, who's capable of a four-point performance one night and looking lost the next
C Alistair McDaniel, 19, St. Francis Xavier - McDaniel is an artist with the puck on his stick, able to find both the net and his teammates, but he can get pushed around a little
LW Francois Coderre, 19, Universite de Sept-Iles - Coderre is a shooting machine, shooting early and often, but the good thing is, it often goes in the net and he varies his shots well

3rd Line
RW Garrett Brock, 20, St. Thomas University - hustles, plays good defense, not afraid to lay a lick, there to wear people out
C Jean-Marc Belanger, 20, Universite de Moncton - passes well, moves well, not a scorer, but has good intangibles
LW Alain Marchand, 20, St. Francis Xavier - small and speedy, tough to keep up with, big part of this hustle line, decent shooter

4th Line
RW Darren Cole, 18, University of Reginorum - Cole is in what he refers to as "fourth-line purgatory" because he's a bit of a hothead, but he's got a great shot, probably the best shooter on the bottom two lines
C Emile Tétrault, 18, Universite de Moncton - Tétrault is a mere 5'7 (170 cm), but he zips around the ice and is a good passer with hustle
LW Cary Pittman, 18, Memorial University - unusual for this team in that he is a bit of a bruiser, could pick up some penalties, but his physical gifts and potential outweigh his faults for now

Pair 1
Marc Broussard, 19, Universite de Sept-Iles - Broussard is an incredible talent, a two-way player who is at home on both ends of the ice, has become more of a team player
Matt Morrison, 19, Dalhousie University - Morrison is tall and lanky, excellent at harassing opponents without a lot of physical contact, better than average shot

Pair 2
Daniel Ford, 19, Acadia University - Ford is a hulking bruiser who can take your head off with a shot or with a check, but not particularly fast or skilled
Chris Kelley, 19, St. Francis Xavier - Kelley is also a physical specimen, will fight if necessary, blocks plenty of shots

Pair 3
René Boutin, 18, Universite de Sept-Iles - Boutin does a little bit of everything, can hit, block shots, pass, shoot, etc, but is a little undersized
Adam Kelley, 18, Cape Breton University - long arms mean his reach with a stick is unparalleled, fast skater, needs to broaden his game a bit

Goaltenders
Darren Gordon, 20, St. Stephen's University - wise beyond his years, technically sound but athleticism isn't top-tier
Joey Perry, 19, Universite de Moncton - a big body, blocks the net well, but can be beaten by skilled players

Penalty Lines

Power Play 1: 1st line+Pair 1

The Eshian Junior Hockey Team
Roster for World Junior Hockey Championship 17

Last year, the king had a weird plan: make soccer the new national sport. But his plan had one fatal flaw: many Eshians are still Canadians at their heart, and telling a Canadian not to play hockey is like telling your cat not to hunt the family mouse. So, here we are.

In the Beginning, There Was Ice

Knock knock knock...

"Come in..." the king said.
"Hello, my name is Alexander Maran, and..."
"...lemme guess, you have a sports team to tell me about?"
"How did you--"
"Lucky guess."

At this point, King William I was used to strangers walking into his office asking for funding to send a sports team to a faraway land, but this request would downright shock him.

"Well, I represent the Eshian Youth Hockey Association, and I'd like you to consider letting me coach a team for the 17th World Junior Hockey Championship in Quebec and Shingoryeo!"
"Hockey? Aren't you aware of my attempts to promote other sports?"
"Yes, but hockey kids will always be hockey kids. There's simply no changing that! Surely you must understand..."
"Why? Just because I'm young enough to be on the team, that means that I'll automatically sympathize with them and give up on my plans? That's a bit ageist!"
"No, but I know that you have a big heart and are willing to support people's dreams! Also, don't pretend that you didn't play at least some street hockey back in the day..."
"You know what? I do support everyone's dreams... fine, you can go."
"Thanks!" as Mr. Maran skips out of the room, he replies "We won't let you down!"

"Hello and welcome back to Tournament Report, I'm your host Josh Seametzle, here to finally talk about hockey again!! Don't worry soccer fans, you'll have another tournament soon enough, but I think you'll appreciate the matchups in the group stage of this one."

"So, the World Junior Hockey Championship, the only hockey tournament guaranteed to give you your recommended daily dose of 'Man, I feel old!'. Eshialand has been drawn into Group C, which some consider a 'group of death'. I say, however, that the Junior Owls just have to take care and not die. Simple, right?"

"First up is Pratapgadh, which may be a hard one to call. I mean... we don't know too much about anything at this point, so this could go in a million different directions!"

"Then, we have a game that, when I first saw it in our list, made me think I was on some sort of drugs! But no, it's real. It's Atheara. Now do you see what I said about soccer fans appreciating the matchups here? This, again, could be anything... but it'll be fun for sure!"

"After that, Graintfjall! Oh, wait, that's not good..."

"From one hockey-loving nation to another, Siovanija and Teusland is fourth... yay..."

"Lastly, we have Abanhfleft, who, if you soccer fans out there remember the Cup of Harmony, will be absolutely dreading right about now! You know what? I really don't blame you."

"My assessment of this thing is that it's going to go from bad to worse as the group stage drags on. Even if we're looking good after two games, we'll be eliminated after five. Maybe we should've stuck to sports we're half-decent at."

Pascafian U-20 Ice Hockey Team

Type: Roster
Time: Several days before the tournament...

You know, it's funny. Pascafia is a country located in the Pacific on what was used to be known as the Marshall Islands, so why in the world did we sign up for a Ice Hockey Tournament, the World Junior Championship for that matter? Well, it's simple. Pascafia signed up because the government wants to explore the world of sports in every way possible, and here it was. We are participating in a ice hockey tournament. I might need to get some ice at this point, but oh well. Here is the roster.

One of the most prominent hockey figures in North America of Pascafian descent, because his club is currently in an off season, he was called to coach the new generation of Pascafia that had an interest in hockey. He hopes that his tutoring will help the new generation be better than him, as he believes Pascafia can do in hockey.

Assistant: Andare Katabino (27 y/o)

Forwards:
2 Andani Hikana Parta (F, 19 y/o)

The Greatest Honor Bestowed

Type: Dialogue, POV
Time: Before going to Iqaluit

POV: Alexander Kurov

I was wondering why coach wanted to talk with me. Everything was going smoothly, we were ready to go to Iqaluit, but i had a feeling this was big. Whatever the coach had to say, i knew it was something important. Plus, i felt something off when we had met up, something just felt out of place. Only Gruber, Cold, Corros, and i was going to have a second run in the WJHC. Richofen had signed with Astena Rangers (the hockey team, not the football team), Erik and Kladin had signed with Blackside Rovers, and Carla had signed with the womens team for Yellowfield Hunters. I could go on on where each of some of my former teammates signed, but now was not the time.

As i was now standing outside the office door, a voice said "Come in." I nervously entered the office as i found coach sitting on his seat, with a few bags next to the table. He was also ready to go, but he wanted to talk with me. "Have a seat" he said. As i sat down, something weird lunged up my spine, it was a gut feeling. He then asked "Kurov, do you know why i called you here?" i answered "No, sire." He then stand up, went to the tabledesk behind his personal desk, picked something up, and threw it at me. I catched it with ease, reflexes. "Nice catch" coach said. "What are you trying to say, sire?" i asked. He then replied "Look at what you catched."

I looked at what i catched... the captains armband? "Didn't this belong to Tohan?" i asked. "Yes, and he wants you to be the captain for this cycle." I froze in shock. Never in a million years i thought Tohan would give the captaincy to me. In Atheara, it is typical to give the captaincy to someone who would still be playing when the captain is near retirement. "Why did he asked me? Why not Corros?" i fired back with a bit of hesitation. "Corros is still inexperienced with dual handling the leading of a team and his task on that team. I knew that you were usually captain when you played hockey in the academy, plus, Tohan said you need to be more responsible."

It was true. I was a bit of a goofy idiot on and of the field, and Tohan probably saw this. "The damn bastard" i said. Then coach asked "You are probably the only one here most capable of being captain. So, Alexander Kurov, do you accept your position of being captain for the 17th World Junior Hockey Championships?" I smirked and calmly said "Yes sire, i accept the position and i shall be responsible for the team." Coach then went back to being an old man and said "Good. Prepare for Astena Airport, we will be going soon. Dismissed." I then proceeded to leave the office. Oh boy, this was going to be a new experience. This was going to be my first time captaining a team on an International level.

Several hours later, in the Airplane from Astena International Airport to Iqaluit International Airport...

I was sitting in the seat next to the window on the plane from Atheara to Quebec and Shingoryeo. The person sitting next to me is Arthelia Hyeradottir. Coach himself handpicked her for the starting forward role. She had something many Hockey players in Atheara didn't. And that was playing abroad. You see, Atheara although has hockey as a sport, we aren't too good at it. Arthelia was so good, she had transferred from Astena Rangers to the Miami Callers Junior Academies, one of the best hockey teams in North America, and certainly the best in the Confederation. I could only name a few other players from Atheara that was able to play abroad. Little did i know she notice i was staring at her.

"Something wrong?" she asked. I decided to tell, because she is my teammate afterall "I am appointed Captain of the team for the entire tournament, as my former teammate Tohan Harilyawski reccomended me to." She giggled a bit, what was so funny about it? she then said "The reason why he could have reccomended you is that he trusts you." I then fired simply "So, do you trust me?" she then laughed again. Seriously, what is wrong with her? She then said "Maybe, maybe not. You have to earn my, and everyone else's trust. That is what a leader must do." Oh boy, this was going to be a veery long tournament, and i just knew it.

Siovanija & Teusland National U20 Hockey Team

World Junior Hockey Championship 14 Champions
3x World Cup of Hockey Champions (40, 41, 42)

Facts

Nation Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland
Short Names: Siovanija and Teusland, the United Republics
Demonyms: Siovanijan, Teuslander/Teus
Governing Body: Hockey Siovanija and Teusland
Colours: Blue, gold, white

Nicknames: The Goldhorns

Coach: Samuel Oppert (Marlesee Jr. Sea Lions)

Oppert has been coach in Marlesee for a few years now, and his teams have become well-regarded for their fast-paced, intense style. He’s been given the reins now of the national junior team, and the hope is that with his Marlesee team being the best in the country, that consistency of style for many of the top players of this team will shine through and produce a strong hockey club. Oppert’s teams include a number of strong two-way players who will seek to shutdown opposing forwards, squeeze the energy out of the opponent, and then beat them with quick play through the neutral zone and a relentless counterattack. “Junior hockey is so unpredictable, the tournament will be won by whichever group of players gels together the quickest, and it’s my job to ensure that it’s us,” he said at the press conference before departing for Quebec. It is time to see if Oppert’s words will bear fruit for the Goldhorns at this tournament.

Forwards

Line 1

RW -- Torsten Becken -- 19y/o -- Marlesee Jr. Sea Lions
C -- Bastian Ehrenreich -- 19y/o -- Marlesee Jr. Sea Lions
LW -- Jaromir Misalko -- 18y/o -- Borograd Bulls

This should be an electric top line - the #1 and 2 in Teus Major Junior Hockey League scoring lining up with the expected #1 pick in this year’s draft, Jaromir Misalko. Bastian Ehrenreich is a dynamic centre capable of using his size, but with considerable skill on the puck and an excellent playmaker. He also excels in his own zone. Becken and Misalko are two pure snipers, but both of different methods - Becken enjoying using his frame to create his chances, closer to the net, while Misalko prefers to do his hunting from the perimeter, finding holes to exploit in the defence. Expect this line to do most of the scoring.

Line 2

RW -- Hanus Kral -- 19y/o -- Piran Pirates
C -- Thomas Kohler -- 19y/o -- Reinbronn Generals
LW -- Richard Herder -- 18y/o -- Marlesee Jr. Sea Lions

Thomas Kohler was praised before last year’s draft as ‘One of the better two-way centres you will see at the junior level,’ and the Stelburg Kaisers’ first-round draft choice will play a big role on this team. This is a line that can take the game to you at both ends - Herder a big presence along the boards, good at winning puck battles, and Kral a dynamic finisher who loves to set himself up for a one-time chance. Kohler strings it all together, however, with a smooth game that has earned him the respect of many - he’ll also captain the squad.

Line 3

RW -- Victor Dassler -- 19y/o -- Stelburg Kaisers
C -- Jeronym Cernak -- 19y/o -- Borograd Bulls
LW -- Jonas Tanzer -- 19y/o -- Marlesee Jr. Sea Lions

The Goldhorns’ ‘energy unit’ this time is this trio, a forceful group who play big and heavy. They are the line that will match-up with top units, with Dassler and Tanzer having a highlight reel of big hits and skilled plays. But they aren’t brutes - these guys can skate, too, and Tanzer in particular is an offensive force for Marlesee. Cernak in the middle is, to stereotype, the Siovanijan Thomas Kohler, capable of shutting down opposing centres while also putting up a strong 20 goal campaign in the SHL last year. Victor Dassler is one to fear, standing at 6’6, and just a mean player who you do not want to deal with on the boards.

Line 4

RW -- Bruno Hoenigberg -- 19y/o -- Marzig Jr. Wolves
C -- Ivan Mazal -- 18y/o -- Kostinbrod Aces
LW -- Ladislav Svec -- 19y/o -- Siovanska Gora Stars

Most fourth lines aren’t renowned for their skilled capacity, but this one is a bit different - Sam Oppert opting for a trio who are really good both on and off the puck. Svec is one of the better defensive wingers in the junior game today, while Mazal and Hoenigberg are both reliable point-scorers. They are all stars of their own teams, and come together to accept a reduced role here - character traits you have to respect in three future Ehrenliga players.

Defenders

Pair 1

LD -- Nico Ottoberg -- 18y/o -- Marlesee Jr. Sea Lions
RD -- Andrej Miric -- 19y/o -- Borograd Bulls

Nico Ottoberg has turned the TMJHL upside down this year with his exploits, a defender with such speed he reminds you of the raw burst that Timo Schlager brings to the senior national team. And indeed, Ottoberg is quite capable of leading the rush, and is actually #5 in TMJHL scoring. He’s partnered with Andrej Miric, a big brute of a defender who is at his best in front of the goal, relentlessly hammering opposing forwards. But it would be wrong to underestimate his skating ability - not as quick as Ottoberg, but just enough to make him a valuable player.

Pair 2

LD -- Mark Holzer -- 19y/o -- Stelburg Kaisers
RD -- Matz Springborn -- 19y/o -- Marlesee Jr. Sea Lions

The Goldhorns love their ‘offensive D-man with a defensive D-man’ pairings, don’t they? Holzer is the more forward of these two, known for a strong passing vision and good as a power-play guy, while Springborn is more comfortable at home. Look for Springborn to get some minutes alongside his club team-mate Nico Ottoberg in the tournament as well - the two don’t normally play together, but Sam Oppert has put them alongside each other before in a pinch.

Pair 3

LD -- Zygmund Fiser -- 19y/o -- Kostinbrod Aces
RD -- Svatoslav Zeleznyak -- 19y/o -- Stavropol Seagulls

When you think of tough, hard-hitting Goldhorns hockey, a lot of the time, you think of 6’8 Siovanijan dudes with 20-character long names. That’s exactly what you’re getting with this pairing. Zygmund Fiser is a giant at 6’8, Zeleznyak slightly shorter at 6’6, but both men are here for one thing: hitting the opposing stars as hard as they can. Fiser has a brilliant slapshot too, so watch for him on the powerplay.

Goaltending

G -- Caesar Teusmann -- 19y/o -- Stelburg Kaisers
G -- Petr Tesar -- 19y/o -- Borograd Bulls
G -- Arnost Popovil -- 18y/o -- Kostinbrod Aces

Caesar Teusmann leads the junior ranks in all categories this season - GAA, save %, all that. He’s an incredibly athletic goalie, but he doesn’t rely on reaction time only, it’s mostly positioning that makes him great. Critics say that all the shots he stops are because ‘the other guys shoot it right into his chest!’ but the real answer is that that is all Teusmann gives them as room. He is the starter until further notice, with the big Petr Tesar likely to get a game or two and Arnost Popovil riding the pine and getting some valuable experience for the future.

Special Teams

PP1: Becken - Ehrenreich - Misalko; Ottoberg - Tanzer
PP2: Kral - Kohler - Herder; Fiser - Hoenigberg
PK1: Kohler - Herder; Holzer - Springborn
PK2: Cernak - Dassler; Fiser - Zeleznyak

These jerseys, designed by Donnaconan company infinite, have achieved near-mythical status in Siovanija & Teusland hockey circles: the junior team won WJHC 14 wearing them, while the senior team have made it 3 WCoH triumphs in a row in the iconic blue and gold colours. The three edelweiss in the middle represent the three values of the nation: unity, patriotism and freedom, or the national motto, ‘Concordia, Patria, Libertatem.’ They are fan-favourites, and around the world, you know when you face the team in blue and gold, you are in for a tough competition. Some journalists in the media have referred to the senior team as the ‘Big Gold Machine’ for their recent run of success; the juniors will hope to be a little machine in them as well.

Schedule

MD1: Siovanija & Teusland vs Atheara
MD2: Siovanija & Teusland vs Abanhfleft

Ice Hockey in Le Choix: Like all sports in the Theocracy, players were chosen from a pool of citizens who showed an aptitude for the sport from a young age. Ice hockey has been one of the newest sports in the Theocracy, with the Ligue de Glace having run for only ten editions. As the Theocracy isn't a particularly cold nation, all play within the Theocracy are done in indoor arenas, with most of the facilities being in the Capital city of Espoir du Ciel. Four clubs call the city their home, while two are in the nearby city of Lumière, two in the city of Gelée, and one each in the small towns of Gardienne and Jardin. The Ligue de Glace has been dominated by two of the Capital clubs, Les Loups d'Hiver (The Winter Wolves) and Les Ours Polaires (The Polar Bears). The Chosen play more of a suffocating defensive style, electing to use counterattacks to score just enough goals to be relevant; nobody in the Ligue de Glace play offensive hockey. Coaching Staff
Youth Hockey Head Coach: Antoinette Baudelaire, 41
Youth Hockey Assistant Coach: Aurore Pleimelding, 37
Overseeer: Grand Évêque/Grand Bishop Roselyne Robineau, 44

Antoinette Baudelaire is the Director of the Ligue d'Académie - and therefore the best at knowing these players. She's been tasked with putting together this team with some of the best young players of hockey in Le Choix. The goal is rather low - be respectable.

The Players
Goalkeepers
GK Fabrice Poullain, 20, Académie de l'Avalanche CAPITAINE
GK Guillemette Charbonnier, 17, Académie des Renards
GK Thomas Bertillon, 18, Académie d'Ours Polaires

Fabrice Poullain is an instinctive keeper who prefers to be in the flow of the game, while Guillermette Charbonnier is more of a stoic type who prefers to just be at the right place at the right time; Thomas Bertillon is strong to his left but weak to his right.

Defensemen
RD Chloé Chatelain, 19, Académie des Mammouths
RD Florent Baudelaire, 17, Académie d'Esprits de Glace
RD Natanaël Marchant, 19, Académie des Pingouins
LD Augustin Pierlot, 20, Académie des Loups d'Hiver
LD Radegonde Aveline, 18, Académie des Glaciers
LD Michèle Robillard, 16, Académie des Mammouths

In Chloé Chatelain and Augustin Pierlot, Le Choix has two defenders who don't mind getting their hands dirty. Behind them, Florent Baudelaire is more of an offensive type while Radegonde Aveline brings some decent pace; Natanaël Marchant is the best option to score from range while Michèle Robillard is a physical specimen.

Centers
C Timothé Robineau, 18, Académie de l'Avalanche
C Bénédicte Trottier, 16, Académie des Pingouins
C Jean-Charles Garnier, 18, Académie des Glaciers

Timothé Robineau is a pure shooter whose weakness is avoiding contact, while Bénédicte Trottier is the direct opposite, preferring passing and checking bodies. Jean-Charles Garnier is quick on his skates but prone to being caught off guard.

Forwards
RW Victoire Baillairgé, 17, Académie d'Ours Polaires
RW Abelin Gaudin, 18, Académie des Renards
RW Joséphine Pueyrredón, 19, Académie de L'Avalanche
LW Nicolette Fournier, 20, Académie des Glaciers
LW Éloïse Jamet, 17, Académie des Loups d'Hiver
LW Aubin Nee, 16, Académie des Ours Polaires

Victoire Baillairgé has been described as one of the better wingers to come out of the Académies - ambidextrous, quick, and sharp on the attack. Nicolette Fournier is a speed skater who mostly does things with pace. On the second line, Abelin Gaudin provides a good change in pace with a measured pace of approach, preferring to score from range, while Éloïse Jamet can help shore up the defense at times. Joséphine Pueyrredón will only enter when a physical game is going on to be an enforcer, while Aubin Nee, the youngest of this bunch, is probably the fastest on the break.

PP Unit 1:
Baillairgé-Robineau-Fournier; Chatelain-Pierlot.

PP Unit 2:
Gaudin-Trottier-Jamet; Baudelaire-Aveline.

PK Unit 1:
Pueyrredón-Garnier; Chatelain-Pierlot.

PK Unit 2
Gaudin-Nee; Marchant-Robillard.

Here We Go!

Coach Maran looked at his team as they arrived in Iqaluit, trying to figure out whether they could be a success. What he saw was a disorganized group of 21 teenagers who couldn't work together to save their lives. Something about that would have to change... but how?

Two days before the game against Pratapgadh, the coach decided he needed to get the team to start meshing. So, they took to the practice rink to work on their passing.

Everything was going reasonably well, but it was clear that there were issues. For example, the second line forwards, Peter, Brayden, and Danica, were all too obsessed with taking shots they had no chance at, rather than passing.

Everybody had clear problems like those that they never bothered to fix. Why not fix them? Well, these players were amazing with their major junior league teams, but internationally, they just wouldn't cut it. That's what happens when a nation goes years without international connections: they lose touch with the world and cultivate domestic sports cultures that just don't work when taken to the international stage.

Coach Maran had two days to change all of that.

STATS CORNER
Eshian Sports by the Numbers

ESHIALAND VS. ESPORTIVA
Two sports, three events, seven matches, one surprising history.

Hello, it's me, Josh Seametzle. Yes, I have a blog now. This blog is going to be a little something different from what you've come to expect from me on Tournament Report. In Stats Corner, I'll talk more about Eshialand's sporting history and the stats surrounding it, rather than the news you're used to. Let's get started.

So, I recently got to thinking about the four great sporting regions, and Eshialand's all-time, all sports (or ATAS) record against them. Against Atlantian Oceania, their record is just 1-2-3*, a.k.a. exactly what I'd expect. Not good, just... Eshian.

There's little to no data on Anaia, since the only encounter any Eshian team has had with Anaian teams since the region's founding was one chess match against Mertagne. It was a loss.

Rushmore's a bit of a different story, however, as various Eshian teams managed to limp their way into a somewhat salvageable 4-0-4 record... I really don't know how.

But then, there's Esportiva. I really wasn't sure what to think as I compiled these results... Eshialand has played seven sporting matches against Esportivan teams, six in soccer and one in chess. I invite you to guess their record. 3-1-3? 4-2-1? Maybe 5-0-2?

No, it's even weirder than that. Six wins, one draw, and zero losses. What the living heck?

So, I had to look at these matches, which were actually some of the more memorable ones in Eshian history. Don't believe me? Let's look at these matches.

Rise to Glory
St. Trinian's 2-2 Eshialand (2-3 A.E.T.)
Baptism of Fire 75 Quarterfinals
Le Choix 2-3 Eshialand
Baptism of Fire 75 Finals

I don't have much to write that hasn't already been said before by people like myself, Alana, and your sports-obsessed cousin Larry who can't get off of talking about "the good old days"... so I won't. I just won't.

On the Road
The 14 Stars 0-1 Eshialand
World Cup 88 Qualifying, Matchday 1
Lisander 2-3 Eshialand
World Cup 88 Qualifying, Matchday 2

Remember that time that Eshialand started World Cup Qualifying with two wins, only to not string two together for the rest of the Qualifiers? Well, that happened in Esportiva.

The Only Good Homestand
Eshialand 2-0 The 14 Stars
World Cup 88 Qualifying, Matchday 10
Eshialand 0-0 Lisander
World Cup 88 Qualifying, Matchday 11

Believe it or not, this is even weirder than those two wins and a row. Why? Well, those happened on the road, where the Owls were 4-2-3 (those two draws being to teams that wound up qualifying, strangely enough). These 4 points were at home, however, making them extremely weird. In fact, excluding these matches, they went 0-1-6. Their only home points were these matches and one draw to Pluvia and the Saxean Isles. Yeah, these were weird.

Chess?
Eshialand 3-1 South Newlandia
Elephant Chess Cup 1, Round 5

Yes, Eshialand was in a chess tournament. I didn't even know about it until I was compiling this data, but yet, it happened. And Eshialand beat the home team, fitting right in with the soccer team's history of doing weirdly well in matches against Esportivan nations. They actually wound up getting third in that tournament, but I'm willing to bet that you never knew about it until today.

So what does this all mean? Basically nothing. I've learned from the past mistakes made by sportswriters of yore, so I don't tend to take statistical anomalies as a sign of something greater. I just appreciate the numbers for what they are: stories. The numbers tell stories, and that's why I started this blog.

Now, I'm just looking forward to Eshialand's first game in the World Junior Hockey Championship against Pratapgadh, the eighth time an Eshian sports team has faced a team from Esportiva. Let's see what stories get told this time around.

*OOC: Quidditch World Cup stats are excluded since Josh doesn't know about them. If you include them, you'll arrive at 1-2-4 for AO, 0-0-3 for Anaia, and 5-0-4 for Rushmore, with Esportiva unchanged.

Players to Watch:

JOHANNES ROJOLA
With the entire leadership core of the Fluvannian junior team aging out of the Under-20 bracket following the previous WJHC, the captaincy has fallen to Johannes Rojola. Now through his freshman season at the Royal Fluvannian Naval Academy, Rojola has shown that he has learned much from his peers and teammates; coupled with his experience on this team, his growth has earned him the 'C'. Another thing he's clearly picked up on from his peers: how to lay a hip check. He clearly paid attention to former teammate Jeremiah Ellis. Our condolences to opposing wingers.

RACHEL VERNON
The first young woman to earn a spot on either the junior or senior active roster, Rachel Vernon returns to the team this year, and this time has a nice big 'A' on the front of her sweater. The determination she displayed last tournament, along with the fact that she is no longer the only young lady on the active roster, meant that the time was right for her addition to the team's leadership cadre. In the interval since the last tournament, she's also clearly been working on what was already an explosive amount of speed, so if the camera crews at the rink have trouble keeping up with her, don't be surprised. She's committed to play for the Techmen in the fall, amid reports that the FIAA is looking at merging men's and women's sports, so it should be exciting to see her potentially play on one of the country's best collegiate teams.

LLOYD BARRETT
The nephew of senior team left wing Alberto, Lloyd joins the team as the fourth-line center. Noted for his two-way play (not always something that can be taught to a 17-year-old) and his size in front of the net, expect to see him rack up quite a few steals at one end, and quite a few deflections at the other.

Prepare For The Fight

Type: -
Time: Before MD 1

While Training...

You were in Iqaluit, Quebec and Shingoryeo, Northwerst Anaia, in the participation of the 17th edition of the World Junior Hockey Championships (WJHC). The team was training for their first match against Siovanija & Teusland. WJHC 14 Champions and Three Time Champion (in a row) of the World Cup of Hockey (WCoH). Do you stand a chance? Probably, but the match between Atheara and S&T will decide that. The experience was interesting, to say the least. That is all you can say.

Everything in Quebec and Shingoryeo (Q&S) was way more expensive rather than in Atheara. The hotel you paid for the time you will be spending? That was 60 Athearan Arthertas! The average Hotel cost in Atheara was just 45! (Note: 1 Artherta is 2 NSD, so 60 Artherta would be 120 NSD, which would be 40 Quebecois Pounds. 45 Artherta would be 90 NSD, which would be 30 Quebecois Pound) You had explored the city for a bit, as you and your teammates had went to a bar for a bit. One keg was 25 Artherta! Back home, it was 15, but you couldn't care less.

The training was rather well, you get to meet some of your players and know them better. Since Siovanija & Teusland uses a slightly offensive style of play, you figured your team had the better chances, as you were using a defensive style. But, Siovanija & Teusland had more experience, so you say it's an equal fight. Kuorv and Arthelia were fighting with eachother, Zander was still dizzy from that plane (somehow?) and was clinging to Carlos for life, Cold was blocking shot after shot from William.

The others were also doing well, but those were the training highlights. You kept reminding them of one thing, coordination. "Remember, Atheara is known for Dynamic Play. Your coordination will be a major factor on whether you will win your match or not. I am asking you as the second team coach. You all need to understand the way this will work. Coordination, teamwork, and efficiency. Got it?" everyone said "Yes sire." Good, at least they know on why Atheara is given huge expectations.

Now, all we can do is just wait.

FACTS AND INFO

Delaclava was a host of the 16th World Junior Hockey Championship when our Ice Cubs take a part for the first time. As debutants they achieved a great result and placed among the top 8 teams in the world. In the quarterfinals with a close result in OT, they lost to the host Delaclava.

Now Srednjaci are back on the 17th edition of the World Junior Hockey Championships (WJHC), hosting by Quebec and Shingoryeo, Northwerst Anaia.
Ice Cubs are in the one of the toughest groups in tournament.

Group D - Douglas Ootoova Arena
Kelssek
Srednjaci
Pascafia
Delaclava
Le Choix
Sarzonia

Kelssek - we know this team wery well. On last championship we share same group as well. In one uninteresting and boring game, we played 0: 0. Neither team was able to score a goal. Kelssek is always a well-motivated team so it will be now.

Delaclava- the hosts of the last championship and the team that knocked us out in the quarterfinals. The Ice Cubs were close to reaching the semifinals in that game, but the nuances decided on to Delaclava's side. Great team and strong hockey and basketball school. The Phoenix's could go far in this competition as well.

Sarzonia - they participated in the last competition but failed to pass the group. They recorded only two wins and 5 losses. But this season they may be better and more coordinated. You definitely need caution against this team.

Le Choix - our first opponent in this championship. We know them from football but we have never met them on the ice. Le Choix did not play 16 WJHC in Delaclava. hopefully the Ice Cubs will succeed in winning the first game.

Pascafia - We have not played against this team so far. We’re not sure how much they can do in this group. This is a very difficult group and I think if they pass the group it will be a big surprise.

Team name: Græntfjall
TLA: GRÆ [GRF when not available]
Demonym: Græntfjaller
Team nickname: Ice Wolves [for this tournament, Junior Ice Wolves]

Kit: White with blue detail and blue socks; alternate is the reverse. Because all Græntfjaller names are patronymic, players typically have their first name on the backs of their shirts.

Coach: Guðleikur Petersson
Assistants: Håkon Bergmundursson, Viggo Vidarsson

A quarterfinal run at the 16th Championship was an improvement but not enough for Finn Ilíasson to keep his job, especially given one of his main roles – improving player discipline – was largely not realized. His former assistant Guðleikur takes over. With a new generation of Junior Snow Wolves taking over, he can no longer rely on experienced players to help out. Injuries at the last tournament mean player safety is a renewed focus.

Squad: A 23-man squad has been named for the tournament.
  • The Græntfjaller Hockey League (GHL) is a small league, but rivals the GPL (football) for popularity in terms of the national sport. However, the national teams at senior and junior level have not been as successful as the football sides.
  • The past WJHC squad featured a lot of returning players; this squad features no returning players.
  • Græntfjaller players tend to be on the bigger side by [human] standards, and very physical, fore-checking and back-checking with equal vigor. But this means trading off for speed and most are not skilled puck-handlers by international standards. They hit a lot of one-timers.
  • GHL rules are laxer on charging, cross-checking, and shots to the head than international rules.
  • Fighting is a basically unknown phenomenon in the GHL.

1. Sveinn Bertelsson – G
2. Christian Vífillsson – D
3. Svani Háleygsson – D
4. Benno Christiansson – D
5. Asbjørn Niklasson – F
6. Dufþakur Reimarsson – F
7. Jaki Skútuson – F
8. Kyrri Árgeirsson – F [C]
9. Sigfreður Klængsson – D
10. Blængur Arnbjörnsson – F
11. Karl Húnnsson – F
12. Járngrímur Sigridsson – F
13. Kár Starkaðsson – F
14. Lár Kristfinnsson – F
18. Starri Hlynursson – G
19. Pétur Vilhelmsson – F
21. Bjarni Fjarkisson – D
23. Aðalsteinn Benónísson – F
24. Óskar Jóhannsson – F [A]
25. Ólafur Stefánsson – D
26. Rögnvaldur Kolskeggursson – D
27. Felix Johannesson – F [A]
28. Jónatan Leifsson – G

Lines will be flexible and adjusted over the course of the tournament but provisionally:

GK1: Sveinn

D1: Rögnvaldur – Christian
D2: Bjarni – Svani
D3: Benno – Ólafur
7th: Sigfreður

L1 (L – C – R): Asbjørn – Kyrri – Karl
L2: Óskar – Jaki – Blængur
L3: Járngrímur – Dufþakur – Felix
L4: Aðalsteinn – Lár – Kár
UT: Pétur

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Maybe, ask first if you have something unusual planned
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes, but let me determine the severity
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Maybe, ask first and let me determine the severity
Godmod Other Events: Maybe, ask first
Assign penalties: Yes, be reasonable

A note on penalties: Græntfjallers will probably be perceived as dirty players by international standards, but they are not intentionally out to inflict cheap shots, but rather used to league rules that are laxer on checking. Most could not even spell ‘concussion protocol’.

A note on fighting: Græntfjallers will not initiate fights. Please do not RP my players initiating fights, ever. That said, if someone else starts a fight, they may respond. Most should be physically able to handle themselves; I don’t object to you RPing your players ‘winning’ fights but don’t have them mop the ice with mine.

A note on pictures: Please do not use unphotoshopped photographs of RL people/teams and say they are my players/team without asking.

Gatchingerrak Union of Rushmori nations, shortened as the Gatchingerrak Union, is a cultural and political alliance of four countries of the Quebecois Commonwealth located in mid-southern Rushmore (Norrskie Zasousti, Norrehavn, Gatchinovo and Novopetrograd). The three kingdoms and the citystate, while independent nations of own, do have the Gatchingerrak Union as a way to establish their common zone, where their main goals are to advance co-operation in military, cultural, economic and energy matters. It shares land border with Vaugania and Norrhem to the west, while bits of the east touch Phoenigetzusta. Combined population of the union are estimated to be around 81 million.

While its trio of nations have always fought with one another for centuries, Gatchingerrak Union is a culturally diverse nation with growing importance outside to that of the Quebecois Commonwealth. Its population is ethnically diverse, with the eastern, Novopetrogradian half of the realms primarily Slavic, while the Western half is divided to primarily Nordic Norrehavn on north and slavic Norrskie Zasousti on the south. Somewhere in middle of the lake, which faces all of the three nations, stands the island that is nowadays known as the citystate of Gatchinovo, the ancient place known for its significance on trades and diplomacy among the Rushmori realms of the Quebecois Commonwealth. It is where the Accord between the 4 states were signed in year 2030 (around the time of WC78), to promise co-prosperity among the rivalling states whose cooperation is needed more than ever. Its economy is a mix of natural resources and heavy manufacturing for it.

A no stranger to international sport, Gatchingerrak Union does have a past history of international football and hockey, where its western realms were represented as Norrehavn. It has hosted a Copa Rushmori and a World Cup of Hockey, and both sports are extremely popular. Unfortunately, the long years of absence from the international sporting circuit does mean that it is expected to be a long way back to relevance for the seven-stars.

Transformative agenda being put on ice?

Next week, a package tour of Græntfjaller fans will travel to Iqaluit, a city in Nunavut Province, Quebec, to witness the Junior Ice Wolves’ highly anticipated game against the Goldhorns of Siovanija & Teusland in the 17th World Junior Hockey Championship. Their aim will be to watch the newest generation of young Græntfjaller ice hockey players and hope they can boost the fortunes of a program that has hitherto struggled relative to football, basketball and handball. But they will also certainly have one eye on the exchange rates. A perhaps bigger question than the future of the ice hockey team is the future of the króna.

The price of the króna has been tumbling in recent weeks as international money markets wipe billions off the value of the Græntfjaller currency in response to the GCB’s latest round of interest rate cuts. Desperate to get some investment into a faltering economy, the conversation around rock-bottom rates has led to some suggestions of a future zero or negative interest rate policy. “We’re not there yet,” says economist Allý Adolfsdóttir. “But it’s a conversation that’s becoming less and less hypothetical every day.”

The capital exodus is in large part a response to the Left-slate government’s proposed increased in corporation tax and capital gains tax, intended to pay for an ambitious domestic agenda increasing spending on health care, education, and social care. “In the wake of the fall of communism, Græntfjall became an immensely attractive investment target, with low taxes, rich mineral resources, and a favorable economic environment,” says professor of international political economy Bjólfur Valdemarsson. “Two of those three things are no longer true.” And the third, the oil, gas, rare earth metal and lumber resources of the south and oceans, are also in the eye of regulators pushing a carbon tax.

As of now, the government is refusing to panic, at least publicly. Prime Minister Zóphonías Juliusson has insisted he intends to implement “every word” of his party’s promises on health care; care minister Nusaiba Jihaadsdóttir el-Siddiqui this week presented ambitious plans for fully funded child care to the Thing. In private, though, sources with knowledge of high-level meetings say the planned reforms of the welfare system may be scaled back; one minister who did not wish to be named admitted that the government is “close to nowhere” on its plans for technical education reform.

Græntfjaller fans in Nunavut will be hoping for a win for the Junior Ice Wolves, who have so much to prove. They will return home to a government that must prove it can handle the economy, too, before the current situation spirals out of control.

Out of the Ashes
Pratapgadh 3-4 Eshialand

The puck dropped, Amy Inden passed it back to Michael Kausy, and the tournament began. Coach Maran could only hope that the training he gave these kids would pay off in the form of a win.

The game actually started off rather well, with the Owls actually looking like they had a chance! Sure, REDACTED opened the scoring for Pratapgadh about 7 minutes into the game with a ripper of a snapshot, but all seemed okay.

In fact, you could even say that things were going well, as, in the last minute of the first period, Tommy Grandia stole the puck from REDACTED, passing it to Callum Lawson. He sped down the ice, dekeing out REDACTED before passing it to Oliver Eastman, who flicked it top shelf for Eshialand's first goal in international hockey competition.

Then came the second period. Oh... no.

It all started about three minutes in, when Vincent Havern cross-checked REDACTED, earning him two minutes in the penalty box. The ensuing penalty kill went reasonably well, at least until REDACTED snuck past the Eshian defenders and squeaked a goal in.

Then, about half-way through the period, REDACTED struck again, getting their second goal of the period, making the score 3-1 for Pratapgadh.

Coach Maran knew that his team was in trouble, but he saw hope. He knew that he they could pull it together, they could pull off a draw... but could they pull it together?

The answer to that question would start to become apparent in the first two minutes, as the Owls actually played a decent game for once! In fact, Jonas Degle got an amazing breakaway and scored just 71 seconds into the period, making it 3-2.

If you thought the comeback was over, then guess again, as the second forward line still had something to prove. Pratapgadh had been putting up an absolutely choking defense, but that didn't stop Danica Joseph from seeing a possibility for a great play.

She passed it back to Havern while seemingly signalling something to Brayden Williams, who started dropping back towards the blue line. Before he got there, he received a pass from Havern and turned around to shoot a beauty straight past REDACTED to tie the game.

Coach Maran was now satisfied. His team had earned the draw, and he told them to hold it. "Just make sure they don't score," he said, "since one point is better than zero."

So why in the multiverse did Dustin Banks start skating towards the bench with over 2 minutes left?

"Play a sixth man!" he yelled. "We're gonna win this thing!"

Before the coach could say anything, Brayden Williams hopped onto the ice to assist the first forward line, leaving Maran absolutely speechless. He just watched, absolutely stunned, as Amy Inden tapped it in.

The red goal light turned on, but Coach Maran still couldn't believe it. The score was 3-4. Eshialand had just won.

"Hello and welcome back to ENN Tournament Report, I'm your host Josh Seametzle, and WOW! I wasn't expecting that comeback!"

"That's right, Eshialand came back from being down 3-1 in the second intermission to win the game 3-4! But of course, the tournament isn't over, not by a longshot. In fact, their next game is guaranteed to be extremely interesting for more than one reason."

"To see why, one need look no further than the group draw. Three teams will move on to the knockouts from Group C, and there's no doubt in my mind that Siovanija and Teusland and Graintfjall will be two of them."

"Now, let's assume for argument's sake that Pratapgadh and Abanhfleft crash out of the group stage. It's a big ask for sure, but them not having any public roster information doesn't really help us assess their strength, so let's just say they don't move on. That leaves two teams fighting for one playoff spot."

"Eshialand and Atheara, the two historic rivals, play each other in just two days, and their game is going to be more than just their rivalry being played out on the ice. Just like the nations' first soccer match nine and a half months ago, this is very much a win-or-go-home meeting, despite it only being their second game of the group stage."

"Believe it or not, this game means everything. Until next time, I've been Josh Seametzle, and this has been Tournament Report."

The Will To Live Or To Die

Type: Game Review
Time: After MD 1

How in the name of Margaret did this match go so badly?

It was Atheara vs Siovanija and Teusland in the 12th minute of the 3rd period. The score? 0 - 2 and Siovanija and Teusland were still trying to make the score count even more. S&T were using their first line and first pair of defense, and Atheara was also using their strongest line up possible. Both sides have not made any substitutions, a bit rare in Junior Hockey. Right Winger Torsten Becken easily skates around Defenders Corros Von Alekheer and Helva Nierssan, shoots the puck with tenacity, beating keeper Cold Sylenord, and the score goes 0 - 3.

The coach, Sczornav Krawilyawski, was not surprised. Soon, the match had ended in a catastrophe, as their next game, which is against historic rivals Eshialand, is a must win game if Atheara wants to qualify. Instead of ridiculing the players, Sczornav decided to point out their mistakes, which... there were none. Atheara was playing stonecold defensive hockey, it's just somehow they just lost the game. This is a common pattern in Athearan NT's. They play well and lose often, and this was another one of those matches.

FULL TIME RESULTS
Atheara 0 - 3 Siovanija and Teusland

Bastian Ehrenreich (1st ; 16')
Bastian Ehrenreich (2nd, 7')
Torsten Becken (3rd, 12')

Back at where they were staying, he decided to tell everyone something. They were down and utterly gutted, he had to do something for the hopes of Atheara still qualifying. The only other time Atheara went out in the Group Stage was way back in Garbelia. And he did not want Atheara to go out in the Group Stage the second time in their history so far. Going to the Qualifier stage, then going out in the Group Stage was just unacceptable, in his opinion.

The journey could end here...

It was back at their hotel, where Sczornav would tell them something. He didn't like the fact that everyone looks so gutted and drowned after the loss. Although he can see why, it won't matter to him. "Listen up lads." Everyone was now wondering on what the coach was going to say. Was he going to ridicule them? Was he going to tell he was dissapointed? "I am not surprised you lost to Siovanija and Teusland, however, i am dissapointed in the mood everyone is right now. Our next game is against Eshialand, and this is a must win game, for two reasons. One, is that this game decides whether we have a shot a qualification or not. And two, Atheara has never won against Eshialand in football, and i don't want it to be like that in hockey too. So take a rest, and then we are going training. No ifs, ands, or buts. Got it?" they all replied "Yes sire."

He just hopes that they can take their minds off the loss. During the game, he saw Kurov trying to focus on the team, as he was captain. He looked nervous during the entire game, showing that he isn't confident in himself yet, so he decided to talk about it with him. "Kurov, can you stay for a bit? I need to talk to you for a moment." Kurov nods and sits back down, as everyone goes to take a rest, something by the lines of that. Sczornav then asks "Were you nervous during the game?" he thinks for a moment.

Kurov then replies "Yes, sire. I was nervous, i was worried about the team, i don't have the courage to gather the team, unlike what Tohan did back last cycle. I don't really think i fit to be-" before he could finish, Sczornav then says "I heard you and Arthelia talking about being captain back at the plane. Just to clarify, that's her way of saying that she trusts you. Plus, why do you think Tohan gave you captaincy?" Kuorv then says "Tohan trusts me, but that was when i was 17." "Exactly, he sees your potential, and he thinks being captain will help you realize it. If we do lose to Eshialand, i won't blame you. Now then, you can go and rest."

Kurov then stands up, gave a simple nod, and went back to his hotel room. Gruber was his roommate since they were both some of the older players in the team. When he reached and enter the room, Gruber was waiting and asked "What took you so long?" "You know, coach talking about my confidence and me being captain. But i need to ask ya, do you trust me?" Gruber then gives a confused look before saying "I do, obviously. What were you expecting?" Kurov then smiled and said "Nothing." That was all he needed.

Three Hours after the Match against Srednjaci
Iqaluit, Quebec and Shingoryeo

Fabrice Poullain was in his room after his first game as a goalkeeper for the U-20 team for Les Élus. Despite his performance - stopping all the shots against him, including a few breakaway one-on-ones against Srednjaci, the team hadn't been able to capitalize on any of their chances either, yielding a result that didn't really please anyone - a nil-nil draw that saw each team take a point. It was hardly the best start for the squad, but they were hopeful that it could be a step in the positive direction as they embarked on the five- match group stage. Games against the likes of Kelssek, Pascafia, Delaclava, and Sarzonia on the horizon meant that they'd likely fall, but they were mostly here to gain experience and to show the world that The Chosen played more than football at a high rate, especially after the play of the senior squad in the previous World Cup of Hockey.

The Chosen had failed on all four Power Plays available to them during the game, only registering six shots on goal during those times as Timothé Robineau struggled to get the puck to his wingers during the attack. To be fair, Victoire Baillairgé's shot would've gone in if it hadn't bounced off of the top of the goal, but the young center from Académie de l'Avalanche will need to step up his game if Les Élus are to have any chance of dealing with the giants in their group. Baillairgé was the best of the limited attack put on by Les Élus, putting together over half of their shots in goal in the minutes that she played.

There isn't much time for the team to dwell on their previous result with Pascafia on the horizon, a squad that defeated Delaclava on their opener. Fabrice hoped that he would be able to keep up his rate of play, staying ahead of the opposing would-be-scorers before they entered his field of vision with the intent to score. Thankfully, his work with Chloé Chatelain and Augustin Pierlot leading up to the tournament was paying off as his best defensemen were covering for him admirably; the second and third line defensemen had also played decently, with Michèle Robillard spending some well-earned time in the penalty box after some hits that changed the momentum and flow of the match.

Like most of his contemporaries, hockey was all that Fabrice could remember from he was eight years old. Having been assessed from a young age that he should be playing sports, he was tested to see if he would be the best fit for football, baseball, or hockey. When his scores came back as a tie between baseball and hockey, he chose hockey because he loved the feeling on the ice. Then, two years of general training showed the Church that he was best suited for a goalkeeper role, which he was carrying out to this day. It was an honor to be not only on the squad but to be the Captain of it; he would likely go in the first round of the draft when he turned twenty-one, and he couldn't wait.

During his stay in Quebec, he had heard about how some of the other nations' players had been chosen. Their parents had put them into hockey to see if they would like it, or they chose to play hockey after trying out other sports; some others had only gotten into it in the last few years. Such a concept sounded very foreign to Fabrice, but that was just the difference between the life in the Church and life outside of it, and it wasn't his place to question the Church.

All he knew was hockey, and as long as he got to play it at a high level against the best in the world, the rest was fine.

He went back to footage of Pascafia's goals from their previous match, and started to take notes on their tendencies.
