RCN Tri-Sport Tournament: Everything Thread

Postby Fluvannia » Fri Jun 11, 2021 2:23 am

Welcome all to the Tri-Sport Tournament, hosted by the Republic of Conservative Nations! Organized by the RCN in order to better socialize with our embassy regions, this tournament features three sports as voted on by the region's public:

- Rugby Sevens: Two groups of five teams each will play a round-robin. The first-place team from each group will play the second-place team from the other, and the winners will face off in the gold-medal match, with the losers playing for bronze.

- Chariot Racing: Separated into bigae (two-horse chariots) and quadrigae (four-horse chariots), each discipline features ten heats of four competitors each (one quadrigae race features five as there were 41 entries). In each case, the ten heat winners will advance. Of these, the two with the quickest times advance directly to the final, while the remaining eight will run in two semifinal races of four racers each.

- "Gladiator" Combat: While this combat sport is themed more in line with gladiatorial combat, this is the modern era -- as such, the lethal aspects of the sport are removed, leaving an event more akin to the combat sports practiced by historical reenactors. Participants here, in the Men's Individual, Women's Individual, and Pairs categories, go head-to-head; some combatants will be randomly drawn beforehand to receive a bye to the next round in order to bring the tournament into line as a regular bracket with 8 or 16 teams. Competitors will continue being randomly matched in each round.

In all sports, attempts will be made to avoid having competitors from the same nation play against each other in their first match.

Chadda Kaur
Independent Journalist

There is no surprise at me jumping at the opportunity to attend the Tri-Sport Tournament.
After all, my name is Chadda, which translates to 'a warrior princess born in the midst of battle'.
It was only fitting that I am on hand to soak in this amazing sporting opportunity and see if all these gladiator fights and chariot races inspire me to be a warrior princess or whether I cover my eyes in terror as if I just sat through a really scary horror movie while home alone during a violent storm.

So I valiantly volunteered, packing my bags and booking into the nearest hotel so I can experience the week-long event.

14 nations signed up for this event which will see athletes compete in Rugby, Chariot Racing and Gladiator fighting. A very mixed bag indeed. And while I am a West Phoenician, I will do my utmost to be as unbiased as possible as I deliver this news blog to my fans and followers.

I am not alone in making the pilgrimage to these events, thousands of fans from nations partaking and other interested parties have all descended on the host nation Fluvannia to bear witness. While the gladiator fights are strictly non-lethal, I get the vibe from many fans in the hope that there will be at least some blood spilled; I mean seriously give us a few bloody noses at least.

Up first was rugby, I vaguely know the object of the game is to get the ball down the other end of the field. You will hear players referred to as fly-half, prop and hookers (Get your mind out of the gutter) mixed with terms like Scrum, sin-bin and tackle. It only adds to the excitement of hot guys in tight shorts and powerhouse women, knocking the other players down in pursuit of grabbing the ball and passing it like hot potato to other teammates who aim to get the ball in their area to score points for their team, which rugby is called a try.
There are other terms for scoring such as conversion which happens after they score a try and they are awarded another attempt to win more points.
If you are unfamiliar with the rules, look them up on the internet, as I don't want to waste my article, explaining every rule of rugby.

West Phoenicia finds itself in pool A. Not a swimming pool, a pool is like a group, where they will play off against the nation's of Alanzo, Celtterra and New Waldensia.
Yes indeed New Waldensia, one of our biggest rivals in the field of sports, who we often compete against in the pursuit of gold medals that West Phoenicia loves so much.
Today's match was against Celtterra.
If team coach Griffin Ascot thought they were going to be an easy win, he was quickly mistaken.
While Jacob Lake, one of our guys in the back position was successful in delivering the first try after 3 minutes of play, the first half of seven-minute quickly became dominated by the team from Celtterra, who led at halftime.

This of course whipped the West Phoenician spectators into a frenzy as their voices grew louder in calling for The West Phoenician Purple Jackals to get their butts into gear and not lose the first match.
Whether a stern talking to by the coach or the fans in the audience waving the nation's flag boosted the confidence of the team who took control of the second half, ending the game with a nail-biting end of West Phoenicia 22 to Celtterra 19.

Over at the Bigae chariot races, special mention goes out to 22-year-old Park Hae-seong, the only member of the West Phoenician delegation to place first in his heats to move him to the semi-finals.
Park Hae-seong was aided in the win by Thunder and Lightning, his two beautiful snow-white horses, who outdid themselves to finish in a time of 4:34.582.

Over in Heat 5, teammate Aries Magnussen was livid finishing on a better time of 4:29.980, alas he was outdone by
John Smith of Northern Connecticut clocked up an amazing time that saw him move straight through to the finals.

Over at the Gladiator Fighting Jocasta with her Spear and Shield outmaneuvered competitor Maja Hamm of New Waldensia. But lost Glenda Riggs who was easily taken down by Stephany Phillipos-Scardonet of Celtterra.

While over in the men's division with all that sweat and muscles upon muscles Goliath Gaul wielded his mighty sword and shield that had his competitor shaking in their gladiator boots and Xander Lim had a very surprising win with the use of a
Iaculum casting net & Dagger.
While Xander Lim showed some fancy footwork and moves in the area, sports pundits have Goliath Gaul going all the way to the finals.

Who will win? Well, we won't know for a few days, but I urge everyone who can come and partake in this Tri-Sport Tournament which is just hitting up.

Stay tuned for more.

Tears flowed at the Tri-Sport Tournament as Princess Arsinoe Gryphon-Bush II failed to progress in the Quadrigae Chariot Racing Heats.

Princess Arisinoe is no stranger to chariot racing, the young lady from an early age expressed a passion for sports which were more gritty, challenging and ambitious.

She ignored swimming, gymnastics and equestrian which her sisters gravitated towards and found her passion lie in archery and after watching Ben-Hur,wished to try her hand at chariot racing.

After endless talks from her parents and tutors failed to change her mind, her parents spared no expense in hiring the best coaches and trainers to ensure if she did participate she would be at the top of the game with a host of Arabian horses known for their endurance as the horse breed of choice.

Princess Arsinoe Gryphon-Bush II received a massive big break when she qualified for the Quadrigae Chariot Racing at the I Olympia Games in Ilysea; Ilyseum at the age of 17.

While she was one of a few female entrants she entered the arena with pride as she competed against male and female charioteers.

There were those in different circles who criticised the royal family of West Phoenicia for allowing a Princess Royal to take part in such a dangerous sport which could lead to death.

Others applauded the move in allowing Princess Arisinoe the choice to choose what she wanted to do in life.

Whether one agreed with her passion for dangerous sports or not, her appearance at the I Olympia Games in Ilysea; Ilyseum had the media out in force, as she posed alongside four black Arabian horses, decked out in Scarlett, Gold and Purple colouring and harnesses.
Princess Arisinoe also stunned the crowd dressed as Athena, a Greek goddess of War and Wisdom, in a lightweight gold breastplate and matching gold roman galea helmet.
To everyone's surprise Princess Arisinoe pulled in a bronze medal, making her the first West Phoenician in modern history to win a medal in chariot racing.

Fast forward to the Tri-Sport Tournament She once again wore her lucky golden breastplate and helmet, but luck was not with her today.
The Princess was seen emotional after the race, coming in second place in her heats, and finishing in a poor time of 4:36.628. She was slow on the first lap and it took a lot of energy just to get her into second place where she could not muster the stamina to push ahead.
While emotional, the Princess vowed she would be back to pracisting and training after these events and she will continue to take part in sports she in passionate about.

While the Princess is out, and many monarchists will be outraged, hope is not lost in the Quadrigae races with three West Phoenicians still in the running.
