Bollonich come close; Batting Collapse results in defeat

We had defeated Lisander and Alice Bay in our first match of the GCF Wolrd T20 Championship. W were coming into our game against Krytenia with a win and some confidence behind us as we chased down a high total comfortably with 2 overs to spare. However our opponents this time were no push overs, despite failing to inform us about their starting lineups, player names and ages the Krytenians were a formidable opposition. Contrary to what many Bollonischians thought after they loss to 1st seed Ko-oren. The toss luckily was again won by the Bollonischian captain Waterson and as we played in the same ground at the same time it made sense to make the same decision. That is to choose to bowl. This decision however later would come to haunt us as we fail to chase down a massive total put up by the Krytenians.
The game begun as Lorrey opened the bowling, with Horne bowling the second over. The second over was a highly eventful one as Horne picked up two wickets in the space of 3 balls essentially making them go 12 for 2. Things were looking up for Bollonich as these quick wickets were followed by another dismissal by Waterson who got [REDACTED] out lbw. Krytenia was 3 wickets down before the end of the power play as they needed someone to step up. And that is exactly what happened as a 124 run partnership between their 4th and 5th batsmen meant that they had covered huge ground in the matter of 12 overs. They had sped up and were not nearly moving at 10 run per over. The fall of two wickets however was unable to stop the steady flow of runs by Krytenia and eventually they had reached a huge total of 192 for 5 wickets. A target of 193 was gettable however really hard to achieve, a similar performance like Merritt’s one in the last game would be required if we were to make an attempt at reaching the total.
As we came out to bat, we suffered an almost instant blow with Merrit getting out for a duck failing to back up his century. Out came Chip to possibly rescue us from the situation we were in. Simmons and Haggard put up a really good partnership of 81 when Simmons was caught out. Haggard was still out there when Hale came out to bat. The run rate yet wasn’t good enough as we were barely at 8 per over. We needed a boost and Hale would be the person to give us such a boost. A boost was exactly what Hale couldn’t produce as he was dismissed for a golden duck. Abraham who came after Hale was able to provide a quicfire 51 off 21 balls before getting dismissed along with Chip. Following their dismissal what was seen was a complete collapse by the batting lineup of Bollonich as we finished the 20 overs with 179 runs for the fall of 8 wickets.
This loss would be one we will and should retreat as this game presented itself in a winnable way. Conceding high amounts of runs bowling first is something to be avoided in the future but so is avoiding collapses like we saw today. We will need to improve by a lot if we are to think about defeating Rundel in our next match. A win over Rundel shall be crucial as Quebec won their game against Lisander and Alice Bay tying them on points with group leaders Ko-oren.

On another glorious day at the patting paradise of the Park Central Oval, Mog called the toss correctly and sent the Otters in to bat in another impossible match against the 3rd ranked T20 team in the multiverse, Darmen. It was just 11:00 in the morning and the sun did its best to burn the ground, not caring about the poor players underneath.

Image

It all began very well. Romeijnders, the Otters' ODI hero, walked out to bat with an intent she was missing against The Grearish Union, and hit the opening ball from Dickenson through the covers in typically glorious style. Along with Hiramew, she kept piling on the runs until the opening bowler's overs were nearly depleted, and the first-change bowler, the debutant Fairclough, came on to bowl. The first ball was smashed over long-on for six. The second ball was coming in to her, but swung late. She played and missed, and the umpire gave her out caught behind. She reviewed, and replays showed no contact on the ball. The third ball, however, was a couple of MPH faster, and slightly wider. Although it barely moved, the added bounce sent the ball spiralling off the edge towards Beckett, who took an excellent catch. Kawauso came in and hit Fairclough's next ball for four over midwicket, then another four to extra cover, before fetching three off the final ball to face Dickenson's final over. The fifth ball of the over veered awkwardly on to her pad, and the finger was instantly raised. It was plumb.

Altink fell to McAlister's final delivery for a run-a-ball five, and Hiramew was once again left with the middle order. On Fett Otto's first ball, the prolific opener called for what should have been an easy second run, but a direct hit from Winter put an end to the opener's unbeaten start to the tournament, although she still has an average of 137. From there, there was little resistance, and the Garbeli slumped to a poor 155-6, after being 81-0.

Darmen walked out confident of making such a low total on such a batting pitch. Acker grabbed a quick single off Skritkyposs' second ball, and left Winter, who had been excellent in the field, to negotiate the remaining balls in the over. The opener struck the ball into the gap for 2, and missed the quick's next ball, which approached 100 MPH. Then Skritkyposs let loose her slower inswinger, and Winter missed. An appeal. Not out, the umpire said. However, Mog reviewed, and ball tracking clearly showed middle stump being demolished. Van der Zee got off to a slow start, and Skritkyposs played mind games with Acker, dismissing the opener for a sold 24, leaving Darmen in trouble. Then Milligan began a solid support innings, as van der Zee went haywire. They quickly took the game away from the Otters, striking six after six and single after single. Milligan was dismissed by an exhausted Mog late on, but Bachmann won the game first ball. Garbelia had collapsed.

Bowler V Batter analysis: Acker V Skritkyposs
Image
Here, Skritkyposs began by pitching the ball up with raw pace, but Acker was unmoved, so by her 7th ball to the opener, she had turned to short stuff. Balls 6, 7 and 8 were all in excess of 98 MPH, and straight at the helmet. Ball 9 was pitched up and slower, with a helpless Acker watching middle stump be demolished.

The Annasholm Sentinel

If there was one positive Rundel can take from this game, it was that in avoiding being dismissed, they are a match for world champions Ko-oren. Both sides enjoyed productivity from their openers, with second batsman Simeon Penn in particular putting up an impressive 53 runs for the Dragonflies. When it came to the technical, or not-so-technical, nuances of batting and bowling, Ko-oren proved their dominance, overcoming Rundel on the chase with eleven balls to spare.

(Editor's note: our local readership is too insular to appreciate humor in the international vernacular, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to make mock of the Dragonflies' names. Held By/In Thrall! Hooligan Runs Rampant! Ball Certainly Does Risewell! Penn (Not) Station-ary! What's the deal with the leading y's, is that like a middle initialism thing? We hope Reginald "A Load Of" Twaddle will have an opportunity to start later in the group stage, too.)

Postby Gruenberg » Fri Jun 11, 2021 9:55 am

Match report posted on the GruenCric website.

Less-than-goat-enabled start ill omen for Gruenberger ambitions

Hopes of a return to form for Gruenberg’s T20 cricketers were swiftly dashed at Orean as unranked Uncertainty inflicted a humiliating four wicket defeat. Funvorgius Ventreltraxibung, whose horror start to his career was a painfull 22-ball 14 to open the innings, was immediately singled out for criticism. “Can’t bat, can’t bowl, can’t field,” twii.tured former Gruenberger test cap Nephiat Burtz after Ventreltraxibung dropped an easy catch in the covers, though it was unclear whether Burtz was talking about Ventreltraxibung or himself given his own less than distinguished career.

The margin of defeat was wider than the scorecard would suggest, with Uncertainty losing a couple of late wickets to impatience. Had Schalk de Villiers or Jamarcus Pettygrove stayed with captain Jack Harper, they would have won at a trot.* On a flat, hard Orean wicket, Gruenberg’s attack looked toothless except for Transportflowmap Renkauer, who took the pitch out of the equation with fast swinging yorkers. He ended up bowling just 3 overs as Ventreltraxibung somewhat optimistically held him back for the 20th; Ventreltraxibung’s preference for spin over seam was clear throughout, and somewhat vindicated by how poorly iiPiqup Fizbin – a very poor man’s Uglaxx, seemingly – and Brigveger Grovan bowled. However, Hraff’ Tumcoweiss looked worryingly toothless and owed his wicket to a reckless first ball slog by Mike Griffin, who ran straight past a ball that didn’t turn.

But the bowlers could not take all, or even most of, the blame: on the flattest wicket in Liventia, they were defending a sub-par total. Ventreltraxibung had plainly never faced anyone with Jamarcus Roberts’s pace or bounce in domestic cricket and was dolphined** into submission, wasting the powerplay; when he eventually fell, it brought Ettexinor Broimbles in, who tried to up the run rate but swiped across the line to the metronomical Seth Cameron. Gruenberg’s middle order wilted, humiliatingly, to a spinner: Mukesh Abhijeet, whose 4-24 flattered him. Not for the first team, in their zealotry to prove themselves adept players of spin, Gruenberger batsmen overcompensated with needless, reckless aggression and easy wickets tumbled.

Only Chthchibvuel Thchthaarheq batted with any application. Older than the average debutant, Thchthaarheq used his feet well and drove with power through the off side, while hitting two monstrous sixes off Cameron. Only Roberts could contain him, but together with Grovan he assembled 62* for the 7th wicket to give the innings a respectable shade. But only a shade: 156 was a target far too low for the unforgiving surface, and Uncertain captain Jack Harper guided his team home, making a cautious 39-ball half-century before exploding with successive sixes off Fizbin to add 21 off his next 9 balls. de Villiers and Pettygrove nearly saw him home, and a late wobble was no obstacle as he carved Tumcoweiss through the covers for the winning boundary.
* Goats don’t canter.
** Cowed. Gruenbergers consider dolphins weak and cowardly animals, unlike the proud and noble cow.
"Do you mean "coming out"...as a Guardian reader would understand the term?"

World T20 Championship: Explosive Batting Brings The Win
Elridge Suprenant is a man on a mission. The 23-year-old prodigy had a wonderful season in domestic cricket for the Elesborough Everblades, even though the side could not actually go on to win the domestic titles in T20 and first-class. Deprivation from playing the international club competitions did not deter the star the least from playing at his best against New Jacobland. This is the second continuous game in which the opener has breached 80 runs for the Black Dolphins in the World Championship and if it weren't for a peach of a delivery by Jensen, there was every possibility for the batsman to go on and score his century which has eluded him for two matches in a row now.

Batting first has seriously played into the advantage of the Grearish side this season in Liventia as the Black Dolphins kept on piling runs for the second game straight here in the Park Central Oval. Osvaldo Cullison failed to impress for the second game straight as questions continue to be raised about his selection even after he was removed from the captaincy role. A quick succession of wickets that fell for the Grearish Union threatened to slow the game down on the batting side, but a sublime Suprenant kept the scoreboard ticking from one end. Taylor Kincheloe fell miserably to Parker who steamed in from the Poplar End and cleaned her up with a beautiful in-swinger. You could sense the disappointment in the very colourful Grearish fans in attendance at the Park Central Oval as they saw their young skipper walk back to the pavillion with the bat tucked under her arm, and the scoreboard displaying a single run to her name.

As hope seemed to slowly drift away from the Black Dolphins, an innings-stabilising innings from the wicket-keeper Corrie saw the Grearish bring the score up to 138-3, when the mighty Elridge Suprenant fell. Nethercott and Conry proceeded to play two very important quickfire knocks as they added 43 to the total to set the mammoth 200-run target for the New Jacboland side to chase. It was a tall order, but not insurmountable, given the fact that the pitch was admittedly a 'batsman's paradise'.

By the time New Jacobland walked out into the middle, the Grearish supporters were dousing themselves in a sense of comfort that the 200-run target was giving them. A very early wicket in the form of Cook presented itself to Mee Merideth as she ran in from the Lothian end and struck him plum on the pads. The Black Dolphins were already sensing success early on in the innings. Clark put up a brilliant resistance against the Grearish bowling attack, but could never find a partner to provide ample support to their batting cause. Scoring 67 off of 50 balls eventually, Clark just didn't score quickly enough to ever realistically challenge the Grearish score, which eventually resulted in a rather comfortable victory for the Grearish Union.

Having won both their group matches till now, the Black Dolphins are sitting pretty at the top of the Group C table. Next up, they will be facing Uncertainty, who are on a positive run of form after a confidence-inducing win over Gruenberg. The next game will be an evening-start, and it is thought that the team would prefer seamers over spinners due to the dew factor. The Grearish have chosen to go with the following XI versus Uncertainty.

Barunia 168/5 (20 overs)
Malandrin 154/6 (20 overs)
Barunia win by 14 runs

Barunian XI
Lockwood
Bradbury
Christian
Dunlop
Horton
Johnson

The Bastion has been described a a spinner's paradise, so it was no surprise that the Barunians named two spinners in their
starting XI for the game against Malandrin. Having fallen agonisingly short in their first match, the Blues were desperate to
pick up a win. Ben Lockwood came out fast and furious, smashing the Malandrin bowlers to all parts of the ground. Bradbury
couldn't keep up with him, trapped in front for just 1 off 5 balls. Christian set about building a partnership with his captain, and
the pair made it to the fourth over without loss. On the second ball of the fifth Lockwood's luck came to an end, caught at long-on.

That brought young gun Jason Dunlop to the crease, having received his blue cap from former captain Ben Price earlier in the day.
He was almost out for a golden duck, the first ball missing his edge by millimetres. His second though was crashed through the covers
for four. Then he broke out into his natural game, showcasing the big hitting that led to his inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad.
Together Dunlop and Christian built a big partnership, taking the game past the halfway mark. Christian passed 50, but was dismissed
the very next ball for 53, the top score of the match.

Dunlop followed soon after, clean bowled by the top Malandrin spinner. The left Horton batting with Johnson, and the experienced female
duo anchored the back end brilliantly, keeping the run rate ticking over before launching with about 5 overs to go. It was spin that did
for Johnson, playing and missing at a turning ball. It crashed into her pads and despite being giving not out, the Malandrins sent it
upstairs, with the DRS showing the ball clipping the top of the stumps. That brought Seb Smith to the crease with only 3 overs to go,
which may have worked in the Barunian's favour. He smashed 4 sixes in his innings as he and Horton stepped on the accelerator, punishing
the tired Malandrin attack as the score raced away to 168 runs.

The Barunian bowlers then got to work. Lockwood made some unusual choices with the bowling lineup. This being the first game of the tournament
for Barunia at the Bastion, and against an unranked opponent, it was an opportunity to experiment. The following graphic shows how the bowlers
were utilised:

Using spinners as death bowlers is an unusual tactic, but it worked. Adams picked up a wicket in the 19th over, with the Malandrin keeper holing out after a big six on the first ball, and then kept the tailender trapped on his crease and unable to score. That left Underwood to bowl the last over. With Malndrin needing 27 off the last over to win, it was a tall order, and the Barunians knew sixes would be needed. The first ball was a miss from the batsman that turned and hit the pad. Despite a massive shout from the Barunians, the umpire wasn't interested, and without a review left that was the end of it (replays suggested the ball was turning too far and missing leg stump anyway). On the second ball the set batsman stepped back and smashed the ball for 6, followed by a 4. That left the Malandrins 17 runs shy of the target with 3 balls left. They needed sixes, three of them. The next ball was critical. Chloe tossed down a googly. The reverse spin completely fooled the batsman as he was advancing down the pitch, and he could only slice air as Johnson whipped off the bails to complete the disaster for the Malandrin side. The next ball was well kept out by the incoming batsman, who then managed a hastily run double on the final ball to complete the innings. That left Barunia with a 14 run victory, their first win of the tournament

Sanjay Gadia Leads Pratapgadh To Victory Against Hebitaka
Written By Rajeev Chauhan
Cricket

A good game of cricket between friendly rivals Pratapgadh and Hebitaka. Pratapgadh's bowling was on point today with Kakadia and Rahman being the most economical bowlers for Pratapgadh in this match and spinners Rajawat taking two crucial wickets. Though it looked like it was an easy win for Pratapgadh, Hebitaka proved to be resilient. Pratapgadh were still able to win the game by three wickets with the help of vice-captain Sanjay Gadia. Now let's get deeper into the game.

Musfiqur Asif won the toss for Hebitaka and decided that his side would bat first. Kakadia bowled the first over of the game, conceding only six runs in the first over. Rahman too bowled quite well in the second over, conceding only five runs. Usually, Kakadia and Rahman get punished a lot in this format, but things were different in this match. After both Kakadia and Rahman bowling two overs, Shahane was brought in for the fifth over. Shahane didn't take any time to assert himself as he took a wicket on the third ball of his first over. Pratapgadh were only able to take two wickets in the first ten overs with its pacers, Rahman and Shahane taking one each. Khatmode bowled the ninth over of the innings and got smacked for ten runs. So after ten overs, the score was 69 for the loss of two wickets. Pratapgadh bowled extremely well by conceding fewer runs, but the wickets really started falling in the last ten overs thanks to Khatmode and Rajawat. In the eleventh over of the innings, Gondalwala finally gave Rajawat a turn. Rajawat didn't fail to impressive after immediately taking a wicket on his first ball and conceding only seven runs in the over. In the very next over, Khatmode took a wicket to put Pratapgadh in a dominant position. The spinners were less economical than the pacers in this game but took the crucial wickets of the game. We also Rahman bowling his last over of the match, the ninth over, taking a wicket and conceding only three runs. Rahman got much better when it comes to swing bowling, lots of training I would say. The Hebitakan innings ended with the score being 141-6, a modest score. Would it be good enough against Pratapgadh?

The men in red started their innings with Rathore and Dharel on the pitch. Rathore played the first ball and was only off for a few runs. Rathore and Dharel were settling in alright, but Rathore was clean bowled on the fourth ball of the third over. Rajendra Rathore was only able to score 17 off 16 and that brought an end to the partnership with Dharel on 24 runs from 22 balls. Then came in Bipin Parte who was in form since the ODI World Trophy, so the fans made sure Parte could hear their cheers. Dharel and Parte's partnership lasted only nineteen balls and scored 23 runs in total. In the fifth ball of the sixth over, Parte nicked the ball which headed straight towards the keeper and Parte head back to the pavilion scoring 10 off 8 balls. The captain and hero of Pratapgadh, Farhang Gondalwala, failed to live up to the hype and was gone for just five runs off four balls. Then came in Gadia, former T20 captain of Pratapgadh. Well, he has been removed from captaincy in all formats sadly. However, it was his time to prove that he's dependable. Gadia boosted Dharel's confidence with his little talk, though Dharel was finally gone for 27 runs off 20 balls. After 8.2 overs into the game, Pratapgadh were 61 for the loss of four wickets. Pratapgadh were in a desperate situation and Gadia would have only for a strong partnership. Kazmi came in next to give Gadia some support and with him, created a partnership of 42 runs off 32 balls. However, Kazmi was given LBW on the last ball of the thirteenth over and he was gone for 11 runs off 9 balls. Rajawat was also a dependable batsman and could prove to be a core part of the team in upcoming years. Rajawat immediately started off with a banger, scoring a six on his first ball. Rajawat for another huge shot on his second ball, but the ball hits in pads instead. The umpire gave him the middle finger and a dejected Rajawat headed back to the pavilion. Sanjay Gadia was the only one left who could really score so he made sure he takes most of the burden. Sanjay Gadia, with his patience, skill, confidence and support of his teammates, was able to pull off one of the greatest victories to date for Pratapgadh. Sanjay Gadia scored four runs off the fourth ball in the last over to win the game for his team. He also scored his fourth half-century with that boundary and won the hearts of fellow Pratapgadhis. After losing the captaincy in all formats to Gondalwala, he didn't let that play with his brain and proved to be a trustworthy player for his team. Pratapgadh's score was 144 for the loss of seven wickets after 19.4 overs. Pratapgadh won the game by three wickets with just two more balls left.

Gondalwala was all praises for Gadia in his press conference, saying "He has always been a core member of our team. He was our first captain and he leads to our first test match victory against Sajnur. So we have loads of respect for him and he's always been an inspiration to us and our youngsters. I was amazed at how Sanjay Gadia pulled off such a task and win the game for us when we were in a desperate position. This is a big slap to the faces of people who said that his career is over and he should move on to something. No one in the right mind would kick him out of the team. He is definitely the man of the match today." The coach, Tarun Kavinde, also had something in mind for Sanjay Gadia, "He's a man who I can trust. He is a definition of a leader and me not sure why the Pratapgadh Cricket Federation removed him as captain, not taking my opinion into consideration. I still love you Farhang, but we need Gadia as the leader of the team right now." To which even Farhang Gondalwala himself agreed.

We also got to talk to Sanjay Gadia after the match. He said, "Today was quite a stressful day, but I kept my cool and just moved with the flow. I am happy that we started off with a win today against the talented team of Hebitaka. I would just like to head home right now as I am tired. Sorry guys."

It is interesting, why would the PCF ever get rid of Sanjay Gadia as captain? Though Gadia did struggle to perform well compared to his peers, he is still one of the best leaders out there who knows what responsibility is. Farhang Gondalwala proved himself as a captain in the second ODI World Trophy. However, Gadia should still be the one to lead the team. Let's put all that aside and celebrate the win. Our next game is against the 23rd best T20 team in the multiverse, Sylestone. Keep in mind, they were one the best teams in the ODI World Trophy, successfully qualifying for the Super 8 too. So this is going to be an interesting match between the 12th best T20 team in the multiverse and a strong and focused team of Sylestone. For now, rally around Pratapgadh.

Off-Stump

Good Performances Driving Optimism, But the Hardest Yet to Come

Adam Loughton will be stepping into the role of captain again for the GCF World Twenty20 Championship. He's a regular feature of this Ethanian team across multiple formats, and will be heading up the team in this all-important competition, trying to place Ethane back on the map in the cricketing world. The pressure is on him and the rest of the team after their poor performance in the Esportivan East-West ODI Challenge, the team defeated by Sylestone, The Grearish Union, and The Licentian Isles. The team put up a reasonably good display pushing teams who they knew they would struggle to beat. Yet they were never able to get a win over the line in that competition. Not a great start to a renaissance.

Loughton was confident he could motivate his team to a good performance in this Twenty20 Championship at the start of the competition though. He said, in a short interview with us, that "he was sure we'd be well prepared for the tournament. You know, we did make a number of mistakes in recent competitions and we've been struggling to put in a good performance. But we've learnt from those mistakes we've made. We've adjusted our strategies even if we haven't changed the personnel too much. And we've got a good team spirit now - much better than before. Hopefully we'll be able to hit hard and drive some victories home this competition." The team have been putting some hard preparation in, our sources suggest, playing a number of games against various Ethanian domestic sides to prep themselves for the challenge of participating in this GCF competition.

And it certainly has been a good start for the team in red and orange so far, even if they are yet to face off against the hardest opponents in the group. The team's first game of the competition was against Baggieland, in which the Ethanians just saw off their opponents. A score of 148/4 off the full 20 overs, Rowell picking up the highest score for the team with 56 not out, was enough to win the game after winning the toss and deciding to bat. Baggieland put in a spirited chase and got relatively close, but 20 off the final over was too much for them to get with Keele bowling at them and containing them well. They fell 15 short of the total set for them, giving the Ethanians their first win in the tournament this edition.

Sannyamathland also put up a fight but were unable to contain the Ethanian batters to keep the total down. They won the toss, but opted to bowl first with the goal of limiting the total they needed to chase. Whatever strategy they were trying, they were outplayed. Ethane ran away with the runs, picking up the run rate as the overs wore on, losing only a few wickets in the middle overs. Dammelhead and Rowell proved themselves worthy of places on this team with a solid partnership of 85 between them. Around the 150 run mark, Sannymathland took a couple of Ethanian wickets and kept the pressure on. Loughton and Lion kept the pressure on though and notched the run total up to an almost unbeatable 206/6. Sannyamathland started off their batting innings spirited, but it was quickly made clear that they couldn't sustain the run-rate to reach that total. Burns was also able to contain the batters well along with Pilton taking a two-fer, preventing their opposition from really posing a challenge to the total set by Ethane.

The performances so far bode well for the Ethanians, with two solid wins putting them in high spirits - as motivators, perhaps these games hold some importance. Yet, the real challenge in this group still awaits us. The team are still yet to play what we'd consider the two hardest teams to beat in this group - Eastfield Lodge, and Liventia (one of the cricketing stalwarts). To really set the team up for the rest of this tournament, they're going to have to put in good performances against them - and to win them, we'll need to be a step above even the performances shown in recent games. We can be optimistic, but we haven't won anything yet - and don't get your hopes up for much more than the knockouts if we're good.
Esportivan and Proud.

“So do you see why I wanted to leave it up to you guys at the top of the order now?” Ciarán Mannion laughed to nobody in particular. A golden duck on his first time at the crease in the whole tournament. He was a decent wicketkeeper but his batting left a lot to be desired and he bemoaned the new-breed of wicket keeping batsmen that he half-believed would eventually put him out of a job.

“Thankfully we had put enough runs on the board that your batting didn’t matter too much eh Ciarán?” Lorcán Ó Grianna smirked. “You better be careful or Father Colm will be moving you even further down the batting line-up. Oisín and Éamon gave better accounts of themselves today!”

“Ah leave it out Lorcán, I know what I’m good at don’t I? I let you boys have a knock and then I stand behind those stumps and make sure to catch the ball, I play to my strengths.” Ciarán replied, a little too seriously, he didn’t always take to being teased too kindly.

“Some good bowling from our spinners again lads. We’re really using this ground to our advantage at the moment, long may it continue.” The captain, Niall de Búrca, weighed in. Niall knew that Ciarán could sometimes get a little het up. He tried to keep the peace in the dressing room, knowing that some of the younger lads liked to poke fun at Ciarán and trying to stop it before a joke was taken too far and the wicketkeeper exploded.

“Yeah good work lads. Lorcán, great delivery to get rid of that Christian, really devilish.” Oisín Mag Aonghusa joined in, he was another one of the elder statesmen in the team. “And who was it that said I couldn’t catch in practice the other day? What about those hands for that one Éamon, eh?” He asked, grinning.

“Yeah, lovely Oisín. Good to see big Mick steaming in to get rid of Bradbury too.” Éamon Kelly, the young wrist-spinner smiled. “We’re back here again against The Plough Islands aren’t we Father?” He asked, looking towards their coach.

“Aye, we are indeed.” Fr. Colm smiled back. “Another chance for you, Louie and Éamon to impress to be sure.”

“What are The Plough Islands like Father?” Niall asked.

“Godless communists mostly Niall,” Fr. Colm answered. “But even if they have not yet found the Lord their society should be admired. They may not follow his teachings but they look after everybody and there is very little poverty—”

“I meant what are they like when it comes to playing cricket, Father.” Niall interjected, slightly puzzled. Fr. Colm was prone to wandering mentally sometimes.

“Oh of course, right you are son, well…”

Sanjay Gadia And Rajat Rajawat Shine Again
Written By Rajeev Chauhan
Cricket

Pratapgadh have now clinched their second victory in the GCF World Twenty20 Championship XIV, defeating Sylestone by 11 runs. It was Sanjay Gadia and Rajat Rajawat again who shined yet again in this tournament, while Kartik Kakadia also grabbed two important wickets in the match. Pratapgadh batted first and were able to reach 171 runs after losing five wickets, thanks to Sanjay Gadia's half-century. Sylestone also gave a fight and made this match much more competitive. However, Kakadia, Shahane and Rajawat were able to stop Sylestone from reaching their target by taking the important wickets which ensured Pratapgadhi victory. We'll be talking about the match, Pratapgadh's next opponent Starblayida and the fight between the PCF and the team.

Farhang Gondalwala won the toss for Pratapgadh and decided to bat first. Rathore and Dharel arrived at the crease with Rathore facing the first ball. The opening partnership of 47 was quite vital to Pratapgadh reaching a high and competitive score. However, their partnership couldn't reach 50 as Rathore was caught behind on the second ball of the sixth over. Rathore scored a respectable 27 runs off 17 balls but could have contributed more. Good innings nonetheless. Then came in Parte who yet again disappointed the crowd after getting an LBW while playing his fourth ball while only managed to make four runs. Another disappointment from Parte who played well in the ODI World Trophy, can he bring back his form in time? With two wickets down on 54. it was the captain's turn to bat. Farhang Gondalwala arrived at the crease and seemed much more comfortable with his shots compared to the last time he played against Hebitaka. However, Dharel didn't stay with him for too long as he got caught at point on the fourth ball of the eight over. Dharel's innings came to an end at 29 runs off 22 balls. It was the hero Sanjay Gadia who joined hands with skipper Gondalwala to amass a 55-run partnership that raised Pratapgadh's score from 70 to 125. The partnership ended with Gondalwala also becoming a victim to LBW. Sanjay Gadia and Javed Kazmi continued the good work which brought Pratapgadh to 161 before Kazmi lost his middle stump. Rajawat gave his minor contribution of three runs and it was Gadia who brought things to a close with the final score being 171 with five wickets down from 20 overs. Sanjay scored his fifth T20 international half-century, praised by the crowd at Lewes Park. With a target of 172, Sylestone were in for a big game.

It was Syletone's turn at batting now with the openers hoping to get a good start. Things didn't go as planned by the Sylestonians as Luke Tiati became victim to Kakadia's brilliant yorker in the fourth over. Sylestone were only on 27 when they lost their first wicket. Pratapgadhi pacers kept up their good work and tried their best to keep the runs down, but the Sylestonians managed to get some runs in every over. Shahane also managed to get another two wickets from his two overs which put the Sylestonians under pressure. In the first ten overs, Sylestone managed to score 76 runs and lost three wickets in the process. Sylestone needed 96 runs at this point to win the game and their run rate after ten overs was just 7.6. So they did have some grinding to do. This is a T20 game, however, so we can always expect things to change drastically. Though Rajawat bowled pretty well and managed to take two wickets in the process and only conceded 28 runs from his four overs, veteran Khatmode struggled but managed to grab a wicket. Khatmode conceded 35 runs from his four overs which helped Sylestone a lot to get closer to their target. Luckily, Kakadia, Shahane and Rahman were able to hold off the Sylestonians from reaching their target. Sylestone needed 22 runs in the last over to win the game and had three wickets left. Kakadia bowled the last over and conceded only 10 runs while also managing to take his second. With Sylestone losing their eighth wicket, all hope was lost and Pratapgadh clinched an 11-run victory.

Sanjay Gadia was again handed the Player of the Match award for his brilliant half-century. Both captain Gondalwala and coach Tarun Kavinde congratulated him for his second half-century in the tournament. This is what Kavinde said during the press conference, "Sanjay proved again that he is one of the most reliable players in our team, willing to stand up to our expectations. He has been in great form recently and has become our main player for the T20 format. The PCF is yet to give me an answer on why Sanjay lost his captaincy." Though Gondalwala agreed with Kavinde, he believed this isn't the right time to talk about internal stuff. So what is going between the Pratapgadh Cricket Federation and Sanjay Gadia? Well, it is said that Gadia was too outspoken about PCF's mistakes in handling the domestic cricket scene. The PCF weren't pleased and decided to give Gondalwala the captaincy of all three formats. We currently don't know much about this. Hopefully, nothing too serious that Gadia would lose his place in the team (touch wood).

Now that out of the way, I would like to talk more about Pratapgadh's next opponent, Starblayida. You guys might have heard of this nation, just kidding, of course, you have heard of this nation. Starblayida has the fifth-best football team in the multiverse and have also played Pratapgadh twice in football. The first match was played in Starblaydia with the home team beating Pratapgadh 5-2. The second game was in Pratapgadh and was a much more competitive and thrilling match with Starblaydia winning the game 1-0. However, this is cricket, not football. This might be our chance to beat these guys on our turf. They seem to be quite good at this sport, will Pratapgadh spoil their experience in this tournament? We will know soon, but the Pratapgadhis should watch out for them. As much as I want to see more teams get into the sport and develop as Pratapgadh many years ago, I also want to see them get crushed.

With Sylestone out of the way, Pratapgadh have an easy road ahead. Their next three matches are against unranked teams of Starblaydia, Dryicor and Arjunnagar. However, then comes the roadblock, Elejamie. Pratapgadh will be playing Elejamie last and would most likely decide the winner of the group. This is some exciting stuff, so keep with the GCF World Twenty20 Championship XIV with FIRESPORTS.com. For now, goodbye and always rally around Pratapgadh.

It took a while for Garbelia to realize that the pitch took spin, but they made full advantage.
Image
West Phoenicia, however, knew it from the start. They put on the spinners almost from the start, but Garbelia found a way to get the runs.

The West Phoenician Cricket Federation will follow the likes of the WP Baseball Federation by integrating its international team with female players at the next championships.

Edward Mount-Alexander barely warmed his presidential seat on the sporting federation when he put the question to the other board members for the formation of an international cricket team made up of both genders.
A mixed team to send off when only one team is allowed to represent West Phoenicia.

Unlike the Olympics where nation's have the opportunity to field a male and female team to the major sporting event, many international championships allow just one team to represent the nation, which is a good call to make it even for all nations participating.

Due to this ruling, when it came down to deciding who to send, aside from softball which is an all-female team, the cards fell to the higher ranking team which has usually fallen to the men's team.
While there has not been a deliberate move to exclude women; men's teams were given a better advantage by representing West Phoenicia more on the international stage.

Edward Mount-Alexander feels women's teams have proven time and time again they are just as competitive, talented and skilful. So why not bring the best of both teams by selecting the best men and women from both national teams?

The Confederate; the West Phoenician baseball team has been integrated for the past few seasons and have found the mixed-gender team is benefiting from the best of both world approach. WP Volleyball Association, The West Phoenician Handball Federation and Basketball West Phoenicia have all voiced the idea of implementing a similar policy when the rules only allow one team to compete.

The question posed by Edward Mount-Alexander met little resistance, with the bulk of the sporting body, save two members voting to include women in the Lighting Bolts line-up from the next appearance.
Moving forward The Lighting Bolts will endeavour to have a 50/50 ratio on the team roster for the international team. If an opportunity arises in a championship for two teams, it will fall back on the men's and women's national team selected to represent the nation.

Baroness Flora Freeman, Minister of Sports, hailed the decision as a move in the right direction. By selecting the best from both genders to represent the nation, we'd have a much better chance of taking out some of these championships and making West Phoenicia a team to be feared by the opposition.
Baroness Freeman wished the current Lighting Bolts line-up the best of luck, after defeating the nation of Darmen by two wickets with an over to spare.
"Darmen finished on a healthy 165 runs while the West Phoenician Lighting Bolts thanks to the majestic batting of team captain Jack Tennessee who secured 60 of those 166 runs to seize the day to show the cricket world we can still pull out all the stops to win. The nation has their fingers crossed that the team continues to play to such a high professional standard."

Shadow Minister of Sports Shane Taylor of The Democratic Socialist Party, whose party is an alliance with four other centre-left parties known as the
Centrist-Progressive Union applauds the move by the West Phoenician Cricket Federation by getting with the times. "While there is still a long way to go for true gender equality in sports, today marks another baby step in the right direction. As an honorary patron of West Phoenician Cricket with a lifetime membership, the progress and decisions the federation is implementing today will benefit thousands of boys and girls who inspire to play and represent West Phoenicia in cricket for generations to come."

The Annasholm Sentinel

The Twenty20 cricketers put up a valiant team effort in allowing nine of the eleven starters to bat and fail to catch Bollonich's run total. Bollonich had a rather more individualistic effort, with merely two of their batsmen deigning to be dismissed and allow their comrades a chance, but it must be admitted that this was rather more successful. "I mean, that Haggard scored fewer runs than he faced balls," mused Klende Wresta, "which gave me a bit of hope we could have spread the statistical achievement around a bit, maybe even allow more than two of our bowlers to record a wicket. But I suppose that would be a bit too much to ask for."

Speaking of nice round numbers, we at the Sentinel send best wishes to captain Callo Kemdawn on his birthday. We have misplaced the paperwork identifying exactly how old he is, but we suspect it is rather more than the 20 runs he scored today. "Age is just a number, innit," Kemdawn noted. When reminded that cricket is a game full of important statistics and milestones and it might be nice to know just about how long he's going to stay around for, Kemdawn was unavailable for comment.

"How dare you celebrate the life and achievements of one sinful individual," added Foheb Mauk, a representative of the Skurgway. "While reflecting on one's looming mortality may be acceptable, the implication that Mr. Kemdawn's batsmanship can detract from the inevitable weight of his grandsires' sins is a shameful delusion of escapism." In contrast, bell tower captain Mejai Helmos pointed out "when I was his age, I was but a wee whippersnapper who could not toll the mightiest tenors. Say what you will about cricketers, but Kemdawn surely has many happy returns ahead of him in whichever manner he chooses to celebrate."

After taking a bye day following their defeat on the opening day of competition in the GCF World Twenty20 Championship, The Cricket Team from the Seraai Athletics, Fitness & Exercise Club (SAFE Club) secured a surprise victory over the team from Lisander and Alice bay.
Image

The Vilitan Cricket Federation had initially intended participation in the GCF World Twenty20 Championship to be a reward for the champions of the fifth season of the Vilitan Cricket Championship. The Yeaddin Bears CC won the Cricket Championship over the Eelandii Crickets after having also had the best record over the course of the regular season with just one defeat in fourteen matches. however, the Bears are currently stuck contesting Group B of the 11th Champions League Twenty20 competition for Domestic Clubs. Instead of replacing the Yeaddin Bears at the World Twenty20 Championship with another team from the Vilitan Cricket Championships that did not earn their place through a championship performance, the Vilitan Cricket Federation opted instead to award the rights to represent Vilita and Turori at the GCF World Twenty20 Championship to the most successful amateur club in the nation - the intramural squad of the Seraai Athletics, Fitness and Exercise Club. According to the SAFE Club website, Seraai's intramural team have won over 1,234,567,890 matches since being founded just three seasons ago as the sport experienced a resurgence within the Vilitan Cove region. The clubs elegant motto as expressed on the team website is "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" and the motto itself can be found in multiple locations on the site.

Perhaps the most impressive feature of the SAFE Club website, however, is the fact that each and every player on the team has opted to remain nameless without even needing to recognize their own photo - putting club before individual fame. Taking it one step further, each player showed further dedication to the club by including nothing but the clubs motto in their personal bio's, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet". It was likely this powerful team unity and spirit of togetherness as a whole that aided the team allowing them to secure their first ever victory at the tournament and opening up the outside possibility that they could potentially even challenge for a Top 3 spot within their group.

The Karvian Chronicle

Bollonich defeat Rundel in a low-scoring thriller; Ko-oren up next

We were coming off a bad loss against Krytenia. All our games till then had been high scoring with us needing to chase high targets, which we managed once while failing the 2nd time. Such a plan seemed risky especially as the bowlers struggled to deliver. Bowling was a part of the Bollonischian Team that had struggled as they leaked lots of runs requiring the batsmen to chase targets near 180 and 190. Something thee batsmen had lived up to but chasing such targets against top teams like Ko-oren and Krytenia would be immensely difficult as we could see in the game against Krytenia. Bowling would be something we needed to improve if we wanted to win and go far in the World T20 Championship. In the match against Rundel, Rundel won the toss and chose to bowl first. The game was being played at the Dawston Ground in Orean, a place where we hadn’t played before and hence it could’ve been difficult to adapt as we were also not playing under the sun instead at 1800 hours local time.
The match begun as Merritt and Simmons came out to bat. Merritt and Simmons despite starting slow soon speeded up putting 83 runs in 9 overs. After a 83 run partnership for the first wicket was broken as Merritt was caught out, Haggard came out to bat. Haggard played cautiously conceding a number of dot balls which is when Simmons after scoring his fifty fell pray to a lbw. Simmons scored his first fifty of the tournament after failing to convert his 48 in the previous match against Krytenia into a fifty. Bollonich looked strong and set to score around 100 in the first 11 overs. It seemed like with Hale on the pitch scoring would just increase but exactly the opposite happened. Haggard who was never the most prolific scorer was struggling to rotate strike and so was Hale. After what was a very slow and low scoring last 9 overs Bollonich had just managed to reach a measly 157 for 2 wickets. To win the bowlers would need to provide a dream performance, and also be tight and not concede runs. This would be tough ask for the bowlers as they had already been struggling.
Humamb and Pauxten stepped out to bat for Rundel. Rundel didn’t get off to a good start as their openers barely managed to keep the run rate above 6. Their openers were soon dismissed as wickets started to tumble. Batsmen from Rundel’s side couldn’t understand what hit them as despite them making scores in double figures the highest a player could score was 25. Wickets at regular intervals meant that Rundel struggled to score runs and by the end of the 20 overs Rundel had only managed to score 148 for 7 wickets. All round bowling from Bollonich had also been brilliant as Waterson and Lorrey picked up 2 wickets each. This victory would be crucial as presently 4 teams in Group A has 4 points and among one of them is world number 1 and our next opponent Ko-oren. The Bollonischian side that faces Ko-oren would need to fight valiantly to even have a chance against the Ko-orenites.

Fredonia lift Hermanson Cup, West Lorfgrania and North Tentonia top respective tables; Domestic Cricket Season Round up

The Domestic Cricket Season is always an exciting time in Bollonischian cricket, and the domestic season was played before the GCF T20 World Championship. The tournaments that were played include the Marzio League Phase 1 and the Hermanson Cup. The Hermanson Cup dates back long ago, as the miain first class tournament for players in Bollonich. The Hermanson Cup held over a period of 4 months, saw great test cricket from all 6 sides. It was however Fredonia and Tentonia who qualified for the final series as both teams finished their ten matches with over 100 points. In the final series of 5 matches Fredonia and Tentonia closely fought it out as the first match was won by Tentonia. Tentonia took the lead, however were soon brought down back to Earth after Fredonia just managed to win by 1 wicket. The finals of the Hermanson Cup were delivering to be a great competitive final. Following these two matches both teams were also tied on points. The 3rd match saw both teams score very high scores eventually finishing as a draw. It all came down to the last 2 games as Fredonia had taken a lead of 3 points due to leading in the first innings of the third match. Fredonia extended their lead, defeating Tentonia in the 4th game with 2 wickets adding 15 points to their tally taking them to 39 points while Tentonia had only 21. Tentonia needed to win the final, and win big. To the disappointment of Tentonia they did win the final game comfortably but that wasn’t enough to win them the Hermanson Cup which was lifted by Fredonia through their great efforts.
The 1st phase of the Marzio League, the List A domestic trophy of Bollonich featured the regional matches in two divisions of East and West. In the East, West Lorfgrania made it as the group toppers winning 11 out of their 14 matches scoring the highest number of points for a team in either the East or West divisions. In the West the table was much more closer as there were two teams tied on 18 and only a difference of 2 points between the group leader and 2nd place. North Tentonia topped the West with 20 points on the board and a fabulous Net Run Rate of 1.04. Phase 2 of the Marzio League would be a delight to look forward to after the conclusion of the World T20 Championship following which the domestic T20 season is set to begin. Needless to say, domestic cricket in Bollonich is looking up and there is lots to be excited about.

Postby Gruenberg » Mon Jun 14, 2021 12:37 pm

Match report posted on the GruenCric website.

Thchthaarheq, Renkauer ensure Gruenberg prevails in high scoring chase

Gruenberg chased down an imposing target with 8 balls to spare thanks to seasoned domestic pro Chthchibvuel Thchthaarheq, who hit his second successive unbeaten fifty of the GCF World T20, and seamer Transportflowmap Renkauer, who continues to deliver the express pace Gruenberg gave been craving. Set 192 to win by The Grearish Union on another Orean featherbed and off to the worst possible start after debutant Spakjutwazz Depraxinong hammered an inside edge into the base of his leg stump first ball, Gruenberg rallied through Ettexinor Broimbles (36 off 24), before he danced straight past a Guillermo Luque ball that didn’t turn. There followed hurried innings from Zambuimmi Hengtridan Jr. and Jett Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk, recalled in place of Hraff’ Tumcoweiss, and at 83-5 Gruenberg looked out of the game.

But Thchthaarheq, eschewing big shots, used the pace of a seam-heavy Grear attack and cleverly rotated the strike with Ystipug Contemnible. The two added 63 before taking on captain Taylor Kincheloe’s arm, to Contemnible’s demise. But Brigveger Grovan followed on his performance against Uncertainty with another handy knock, swiping two massive leg-side sixes off Luque. He couldn’t repeat the trick to Mee Merideth, who knocked out his middle pole, but Renkauer boldly stepped up to hit three successive fours.

Renkauer had earlier been the pick of a changed Gruenberger seam attack, taking 2-35, figures hurt by his fourth over after captain Funvorgius Ventreltraxibung decided he could not risk spinner Quouodan Skejjibox in the penultimate over. Renkauer trapped Leon Nethercott LBW but was hit for two big sixes by Son Copes as The Grearish Union finished their innings in fine style, hitting 57 off the last 4 overs. Grovan was expensive, as was Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk, despite taking two wickets. Skejjibox was by far the best bowler for either team but inexplicably bowled only three overs. It’s… Keitocronkidrex’s debut figures of 25 off 4 overs flattered a fairly unthreatening performance.

Grearia’s innings was also built around a big 6th wicket stand following early wickets, in their case Dewayne Goolsby and Nethercott added 53. Goolsby smote 37 off 21 and Nethercott 42 off 28 as they hammered Gruenberger seamers who could find neither seam nor swing; only Skejjibox, whom they struggled to read off the pitch, held them back. Gruenberg’s fielding was at least improved – Broimbles hit direct from point to run out Luque, Ventreltraxibung atoned for his first match drop with a fine take to account for the dangerous Copes, and Contemnible’s glovework remained super sharp with an outstanding grab to hold onto Marni Passman’s thick-edged cut off Depraxinong.

Depraxinong’s duck did little to justify his selection over Honk with the bat, while Ventreltraxibung had another awful innings in which he looked nowhere near international level. Selection uncertainty remains over the third seamer – Grovan, for all his use with the bat, has twice been expensive – and second spinner – Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk’s familiar trade-off of strike rate v. economy rearing its head once more – but it is over the batting that bigger questions loom, the biggest being: can the team really afford to carry a specialist captain who can’t count to 4?

Postby Corridor of Uncertainty » Mon Jun 14, 2021 12:48 pm

OREAN (UPA)—Uncertainty “must adapt to the Orean surface” says national team coach driver Peter Ballard. Uncertainty will play all six of their group stage matches at what is generally reckoned the best batting surface in Liventia and with conditions proving favorable for batters, Ballard says the team’s top order need to step up. “There will be much tougher tests than minnows like Gruenberg,” warned Ballard, following the team’s 4 wicket win.

Openers Mike Griffin and Thehan Gunewardena are under pressure following a brace of low scores apiece, and although captain Jack Harper impressed with an unbeaten 71 in the Gruenberger game, Ballard says they “cannot leave it all to him”. The absence of ODI vice-captain Pranav Joshi means the top order is particularly inexperienced, and will be dependent on the form of all-rounders Schaldk de Villiers and Jamarcus Pettygrove. “These guys are at their best when they have freedom to hit from a solid platform, not rebuild from 30-3,” says Ballard.

One option is to move Pettygrove up to his preferred opening role, possibly at the expense of Gunewardena, whose off-spin does not appear to be a major priority. Shahbaz Bahawalanzai remains a long shot to replace Griffin: “Mike’s had a bad couple of games but it’s early to be thinking about a change at wicket-keeper,” says Ballard. Ariana Cooper is also in the squad and would presumably bat in the top 3 if selected, again: she and Griffin have opened for Bolaño, but Ballard admits another possibility would see Harper slide down, leaving out Naseem Latif, who failed to impress against Gruenberg, bowling 1 over for 12 and dismissed for 1.

On the bowling front, Devon Roberts and Mukesh Abhijeet have been the pick. “Orean doesn’t seem to favour spinners too much,” says Ballard, but he did not rule out a game for unorthodox talent Thilakaratne Silva. Meanwhile, de Villiers was called on for 4 economical overs for Gruenberg, giving hope he can prove a genuine all-rounder and balance the side out. “On pitches like this carrying 6 or even 7 bowlers is preferable, because there’ll always be something for the batters,” says Ballard. “But we don’t want to weaken our batting lineup.”
