Gaius Fabius Magnus liked chatting and cuddling and goofing around with the pretty young goddesses who lived up the road from him, but he never slept with them for two reasons.

The first reason was that he loved his wife and did not want to make her jealous. In fact, they had moved to Orthornavirae because she was dying and he couldn't bear the thought of going on without her. Upon seeing how deathly ill Cornelia was and how distraught Magnus was at the thought of losing her, a priest had told them of a place between Earth and the Underworld where they might remain together. Magnus had sold most of his worldly possessions, freed his slaves, and allowed the slaves to keep everything that he could not sell or carry. The slaves thought Magnus had lost his mind, but they could not talk him out of selling his possessions and going in search of the Virias. At first Cornelia protested that she was too sick to travel, but he swore that it was their only chance to stay together and he begged her to make the trip with him until she finally agreed. They had spent a few weeks in Shotoku and a few decades in Viraemia before finally settling in their current home.

After 2000 years as a married couple, they were not as passionate as they had been in their youth. The long years of dreary weather and the knowledge that they would never have children got depressing sometimes. They got bored. Sometimes a pretty Orthornaviraean would catch one of their eyes. And yet they still shared an unbreakable bond.

The other reason why neither of them ever slept around was because it might produce children. Demigods with one human parent and one Orthornaviraean would always inherit some of their divine parent's powers and use them to create new human diseases.

Sometimes it was hard for Magnus to keep his hands to himself, though. The goddesses of SARS and MERS were absolutely gorgeous and they never complained about being hugged and kissed and petted and teased. They thought it was funny that he called them Sarsaparilla (or Sarsi) and Mercy. Magnus had no real concept of what the diseases SARS and MERS were. He had no idea how dangerous they were, and he tended to imagine them much milder than they actually were -- which also amused the goddesses.

Sometimes the goddesses teased him back, confusing him by teleporting around or turning into animals.

Magnus was swaggering down the street with SARS and MERS, one in each arm like a rock star with a pair of groupies. He leaned in to plant a kiss on MERS's cheek when out of nowhere she turned into a camel and licked him. He cried out in surprise and pulled away while SARS had a good laugh.

He playfully grabbed her. "What are you laughing at, Sarsaparilla?"

Before SARS could respond, they were interrupted by an angry voice coming from an overgrown wall beside them. "WHO ARE YOU CALLING SARSAPARILLA???"

It should be noted that there were not many plants in Orthornavirae because there was so little natural light. There were some mosses, and some viral deities that would take plant-like forms when they rested, but not much else. And yet here was a wall with a vine growing over it...

The vine reached out to grab them and before Magnus could jump out of the way, it was wrapped around his limbs holding him fast. It caught SARS too, though that was probably because she hadn't tried very hard to get out of the way. MERS -- still disguised as a camel -- plodded away to the other side of the street, out of the vine's reach.

"I AM NOT A DISEASE!!!" the voice from the wall bellowed angrily.

Magnus tried to pull the vines off his arms, but he could not pry them loose. They were too strong to break and too tight to simply pull aside. They squeezed painfully tight, cutting off circulation and scratching him with their thorns.

SARS pulled herself loose, apparently having a much easier time of it than Magnus did. "What are you doing, you stupid plant?" she said. "Leave him alone!" She started pulling the vines away from her mortal friend, but the plant fought back, wrapping itself tightly around her throat and wrists, tangling her hair and tearing her dress.

"STOP USING MY NAME!!!" the plant roared. "I AM THE GODDESS OF SARSAPARILLA!!!"

"Do you really think I need to breathe?" SARS asked, apparently not worried about the vines wrapped around her neck. She yanked on the plant hard enough to tear off some of the vines. "Let him go or I'll infect you!"

"Plants don't get SARS," Sarsaparilla retorted. She wrapped a fresh batch of vines around the arm that SARS had pulled free and twisted it with an ugly crack.

"I'll invent a new virus that infects plants, just for you!" SARS shot back, ignoring her injuries. She tore herself free and stepped back, scattering leaves and berries all over the pavement. "Go back to your own kingdom and leave us alone!"

The sarsaparilla plant loosened its grip on Magnus enough that he could finally pry himself free. "I'm sorry I offended you," he said, trying to calm the plant goddess down, but she wasn't really listening. The two goddesses scuffled some more, yelling curses at each other, knocking over a nearby street sign, and splattering the ground with leaves, red berries, and thick dark blood.

The fight was interrupted by a loud metallic creak, and everyone looked to see MERS -- still disguised as a camel -- stumbling over a sign-post that she had accidentally bent by leaning against it. A small audience of other "animals" (probably disguised Orthornaviraeans) had gathered on the sidewalk around her.

Magnus pulled out a knife that he carried, planning to join in the fight and defend SARS, but she told him to stay back. "You'll get hurt."

Magnus looked around, confused. The goddess of SARS had thick vines wrapped tightly around her neck, one of her arms was visibly broken, and blood was pumping from her wounds in rhythmic spurts like she had a severed artery -- and she was worried that he might get hurt? He was a former legionary and he thought of himself as an honorable gentleman. It was supposed to be his job to protect women, not the other way around. "But what about you?" he asked.

She vanished in a puff of fog and rematerialized a short distance away looking slightly rumpled and with a few leaves still stuck in her hair, but much less wounded. "I am immortal." She turned her attention back to the angry sarsaparilla plant. "Go home, Smilax. You've made your point."

"HAVE I???" the plant goddess roared.

"Oh, yeah, you've made your point loud and clear!" Magnus assured her.

"SO YOU WON'T CALL HER SARSAPARILLA AGAIN???"

"Oh, no, definitely not!"

"AND YOU..." The plant jabbed a thorny tendril at SARS. "YOU WILL NOT USE MY NAME???"

SARS shrugged. "I wasn't even using it. You're just being an idiot."

The plant grabbed her and tried to slam her down on the pavement, but SARS teleported out of its grip. "Go home, Smilax. You're just making yourself look stupid."

"SOME OF US DON'T LIKE BEING COMPARED TO DISEASES!!!!"

"I am not a disease," said SARS. "I am the goddess of a virus. Go back to your own kingdom."

The sarsaparilla plant pulled itself loose from the wall and slinked away, muttering to itself something about filthy parasites.

The "animals" who had gathered to watch the fight began to disperse, and MERS returned to human form so she could prop up the sign post that she had bent. SARS picked the leaves out of her hair and straightened her clothes. Magnus put his dagger away and apologized to SARS for getting her into a fight.

"It's not your fault," SARS answered.

They went on their way, but there was one detail Magnus had noticed that disturbed him. Even after he'd had time to catch his breath and his adrenaline had subsided, he still thought it was creepy. When SARS was wounded, her blood had spurted as if she had a severed artery, but it was never the color of arterial blood. He had been in battle and he knew what arterial blood was supposed to look like. It was a reminder that she wasn't human, but it was also more than that. It suggested that SARS, the disease, was much more serious than he had imagined it. If the blood in the arteries didn't have its usual bright red color, that meant it wasn't carrying oxygen. In a human body, that would be fatal. He struggled to wrap his head around why someone would create a disease that did that to people, and why she would inflict it on her own body even if she could survive that way.

He glanced over at the goddess of SARS who was still finding leaves, berries, and thorns tangled in her hair and clothes. She smiled innocently, pretty as ever, apparently oblivious to what was going through his head. He shuddered.

"Are you okay?" she asked.

"Yeah, just a little rattled," he said. "What about you? Are you okay?"

"Of course I'm okay. I am immortal."

HANDBALL WORLD CUP 23-Equestria and Bollonich

Imperial Rifta 21–36 Srednjaci

Imeprial Rifta was characterized as a big surprise in our group. They have already amassed two wins and one of them is against the favored Kriegiersien. The Master Bears therefore entered this match concentrated and strong. They knew this was essential to winning now. From the beginning to the end of the game, there was no dilemma as to who would win. With their aggressive defense and constant pressing, the handball players from Srednjaci forced the opponent to make errors.
It was +7 22:15 at the halftime. By the end of the game, that advantage was constantly growing because the defense was functioning flawlessly.
Imperal Rifta is completely powerless. Their game completely fell apart and they had 6 minutes less players because they tried to stop our attacks with too aggressive. The end result speaks for itself about our dominance. Throughout the game, the Imperial Rifta players scored 21 goals while the Master Bears scored 22 of them at half time!
In our group Sylestone ensured the passage of the group. The Master Bears are still in the waiting room.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE HALL IN POGRATIN

The construction of a new handball hall has started in the town of Pogratin. In fact, it will also be the first handball hall. Until now, Pogratin had a sports hall that was used by other clubs.
Pogratin Volleyball Center got a new volleyball home and now the Pogratin handball club that plays in the Master League will get its own center, the Handball Home.
The hall will be able to accommodate 12,000 spectators and will have a lot of post-war facilities. The most modern locker rooms with jacuzzi tubs and saunas.

NEW FORMAT OF HANDBALL COMPETITION

At today's session of the executive board of the Handball Federation Srednjaci, the new model of the competition was discussed. Given that Northern Slavonia is part of our country, the current format must change. The number of clubs in the Master League will remain the same. Delegates will have to choose one option and two have been offered for now. Voting is scheduled for two days from today.
As our journalists say, option 2 is more likely. Option two says that the Master League competition system will not change as in the league below, the first league. The second league is changing. The Second League loses its format Second League North and Second League South. It will be a unique league with 14 clubs. And below it, county leagues or district leagues are formed. The best first place goes to the playoffs for the second league. Only two clubs from the playoffs will secure the second league because from the second league the last two clubs will be relegated directly to the lower league.

Sport - Second Loss in a row; Injuries pose a burning problem

The Bollonischian Handball Team that was competing in the 23rd edition of the Handball World Cup at home had suffered their first set back against Drawkland. This was to be a minor setback as we would have liked to make a comeback against Libonesia in the next match. Libonesia however were highly ranked and so it was expected for them to put up a fight, but they were clearly struggling as they had only accumulated 2 points in 4 games before facing us.
We were confident going into the the game, knowing that the game against Drawkland was only a minor setback something we had to recover from. But as soon as the match begun things started going wrong as in the early parts of the game itself, both Heath Adair and Neil Newell had succumbed to injuries. They had to be taken off as they were replaced by Smith Hampson and Lovell Ayers respectively. The loss of Heath and Neil will be a loss deeply felt by the BHF and their teammates. With their absence the score at the end of the 2nd quarter was 20-11.
Bollonich were trailing by 9 goals, which is a huge margin and covering that distance without their star players couldn’t even be imagined by the players. However we Bollonischians never give up, and that is what the players had to do. They couldn’t give up, and that is what they did. After an immense amount of effort applied in the remaining two quarters Bollonich crawled their way to score 15 more goals, however that was not enough as Libonesia also netted 9 goals in this period defeating us by a margin of 3 goals and score of 29-26. This was a shocking defeat that no handball fan in the universe could have predicted ahead of the match. Bollonich’s win streak at the beginning of the tournament was slowly decimated after 2 losses to Drawkland and Libonesia. Further hopes of advancing are also up in the air as teams like Sylestone, Kotzellach and Taxonomic Kingdoms secured their qualification spots. Injuries are also a concern for Bollonich right now as they lose their two key players. Winning our next matches against Magnecia and Oprimide will be key if we want to qualify safely.

Part 1

Politics - The Liberal Party set to win the 2022 Elections? - Part 2

Recently after the Vreton City Journal announced their popularity polling results, Election predictors and simulators all over Bollonich set to find out the number of seats the parties could respectively win. And we here, at the Karvia Chronicle HQ also crunched some numbers and the results will genuinely shock you. Firstly to understand these numbers it’s important to understand the total number of seats that are present in each state along with the division of such. Bollonich overall contains 305 seats divided unequally in all states. Vretonia consists of most seats with 91 while Tentonia is in second with 68 followed by Lorfgrania 60, Fredonia 56. In the end comes ASG with 3 seats and Pseudonia with 27.

Image

This division of seats is what makes the Socialist party highly unlikely to win any influential number of seats at all, since the state they are most powerful in only holds a total of 27 seats. Hence this is where seat predictors come in, and after the narrow win with 163 seats in 2018, the Liberal Party will be looking to better that. According to our analysis, the Liberal Party is set to win 71 seats in Vretonia which is a huge improvement from last times’ 56. Overall the predicted improvement is from 163 to 174 however the Liberal Party would like to improve the look of this in states like Tentonia and Lorfgrania where they according to our predictions are to lose more seats than last time even dropping below 50% at Lorfgrania.

Angry rant of an angry Randy

Kriegiersien 24–24 West Phoenicia

Surpriiiiise. They didn’t lose against Some cardinal direction Phoenicia, it was a draw. Two teams showing not much, sharing points like a fortune cookie. Prophecy: You are both shit and will go to hell soon!!!

Do or die against Srednjaci now. But I can already tell you: It is die. Just look at Srednjaci: They do not only build lush and big, they even write big. I only wonder if we will see the first time more than 100 goals for one team. And if our guys will score at all. Maybe they should have send the girls. They would have probably won this. From the guys I only expect disappointment. But I guess they will fail in doing even this right.

GREAT DAY FOR HANDBALL

REPORTER SANJA DUBRAVČIĆ :Members of the delegation of the Handball Federation of the Autonomous Province of Northern Slavonija today signed a charter of unification with the Handball Federation of Srednjaci. Clubs from Northern Slavonija will equally participate in the fight for the championship of Srednjaci. Which means handball clubs will be able to play the Master League. There is still no proposal for the reorganization of the handball league. The league in Northern Slavonia is not too big. There are 10 clubs in the strongest league and another 42 of them are distributed through other lower leagues. The champion is RK Podgora, their only competitor was the club RK Lijepograd. The entire league of Northern Slavonia has a budget as four clubs in the Master League and for clubs coming from that autonomous province this will be a real financial injection.

REPORTER : On the occasion of this news, the president of the association, Martina Matanović, is with us in the studio. Respect and welcome.

MATANOVIĆ: Thank you and greetings to your viewers.

REPORTER: Here is a lot of speculation about the Master League and the First League, how it will be reorganized. There are a lot of unknowns. Did you know at this point how would it all look like from next year?

MATANOVIĆ: For now, we are still in dialogue and agreement. Specifically, we did not bring any options. We need to consider several factors. Logistics and travel, then sponsorships, match transfer rights, infrastructure.

REPORTER: We have heard that one of the offered solutions has a great advantage to be voted on.

MATANOVIĆ: None of the options are perfect, they have to be finalized, so the vote is in two days.

REPORTER: You don't have anything concrete for now?

MATANOVIĆ: Not yet.

REPORTER: Do you follow the events at the World Cup?

MATANOVIĆ: Of course I follow. I am glad that we are playing well because that is what is expected of us. One mistake happened to us, one bad day, but it's all a sport and victories and defeats are an integral part of the sport. I think we have a chance for a medal for sure. But watch out now, with this unification of the two federations into one, we are getting a new and bigger handball base. Which is great actually. More opportunities and more options, more talent.

REPORTER: We agree with you. This really was a big day for handball today. Thank you for visiting.
This was the president of the handball federation.

Postby Sarzonia » Tue Jun 01, 2021 12:14 pm

One Handball World Cup ago, Sarzonian national team manager Joyce Rodham was facing questions about her being just the second woman to manage a predominantly male Sarzonia team in a sport. She faced questions about her prowess as a manager after the team stumbled to a 3-1-4 record and missed out on the knockout stages. She faced questions about managing a team where two of its players did not get along.

Now? Many of those questions, if they didn't necessarily have satisfactory answers, no longer need to be asked. The first woman to manage a predominantly male team, Aussie Rules World Cup manager Katie Sampson won the third edition, giving her two titles from three attempts and an overall 20-3 record. Rodham's Stars team won its match against Shreekar, brushing aside the unranked side with a 29-24 victory that essentially clinched a spot in the knockout rounds for Sarzonia. The victory gave Sarzonia five victories from five matches, and both teams that are level for the automatic knockout round spot given to the third placed side are two matches behind the Stars with two matches to play. According to the tiebreaking procedures, the fact that the Stars defeated both sides already should automatically put Sarzonia into the knockouts.

"We've been playing very well as a unit," Rodham said, choosing to deflect any praise sent her way to the team. "They've had experience in the previous Handball World Cup playing together and playing in this system and the benefits of that experience are obvious."

Pat Agnew made six saves against a Shreekar side that are only nominally still in the race for a spot in the knockout rounds. They said the defensive pressure Sarzonia put on its opponents made it easy for them.

"I mean, they just kept challenging their shooters and closing up the lanes to make it tougher for them to get a shot off," Agnew said.

As for that one final challenge of two players not getting along? Rodham's not perfect, but added that the results make that a little bit easier.

"Winning can cure a lot," Rodham said with a smile. "And we've been doing that quite a bit this time around."

Die Nationalversammlung
Kotzellach City

Little more than a stage.

As Baumann strode down the aisle to take his place in the first row of the semicircle, he glanced left and right. Most of the Cabinet and his Members of Parliament had already assembled; on the Opposition benches, steely glares were thrown his way as Kurt took his seat. The Order Paper had been hastily amended, just for the one item of discussion that would occur today; whether the Foxchester Declaration would be ratified or not.

Seidl strolled in, a frown on the youthful leader's face; typically, the ever media-conscious leader would be beaming. The two made eye contact. Seidl shrugged his eyebrows. Presumably he had come to the same conclusion as Kurt — both men knew that signing Foxchester was the pragmatic solution, the only one which would keep the country ploughing forward. To keep the image that his party was working for the good of Kotzellach, too, the only solution was to vote for.

Were negotiations even needed, then?

The media had been going into overdrive over the evening and morning following the announcement. Hungry as ever for any semblance of official news, professors, analysts and the like had been consulted for their views on the matter. Most of them had little reservations about joining Anaia, and the stock market had jumped multiple points when trading had opened. The news that Sarzonia had ordered Kotzellachian citizens to leave hadn't dampened enthusiasm over the project; neither did other countries implementing similar restrictions. Baumann planned to get those affected back into Kotzellach, for free; the flag carriers were already on their way to Sarzonian airspace, ready to pick up their own citizens and fly them back.

There was no room for error. He had to convince the public that Foxchester was the right thing. Applying to common decency — unlike the Krytenians, he had brought the case to Parliament; applying to the sense of security so craved by Kotzellachians — by painting the country as an island, surrounded by enemies if they didn't join; by appealing to the need for material comforts, by advocating trade and opportunity. All out of the old playbook; all tactics, tried and tested, and guaranteed to work.

As Parliament settled down, and the Speaker took his place, Kurt adjusted his tie.

It was showtime.

Sylestone qualify with 29-21 victory over Qasden

KARVIA, BOLLONICH - The Hawthorns have maintained their perfect record with a 29-21 victory over the 15th-ranked Qasden in their first match of the tournament against a higher-ranked side. This, and with Srednjaci absolutely slaughtering Imperial Rifta, ensured that the Hawthorns would finish top two and qualify for the round of 16. With Imperial Rifta and Kriegiersien to come, though, the Sentients would not have any easy games to relax.

In order to confirm an early qualification, the Hawthorns put their best seven players onto the court right from the get-go. This was their starting seven in their opening match against West Phoenicia, except Flynn Strange took the left-back position ahead of an out-of-form Isabella Bailey.

It worked. In the first quarter, the Hawthorns took a 9-5 lead over their opponents, Qasden, as they struggled to find their rhythm. Like the side from Arjunnagar, the association behind the Qasden national side did not wish to reveal the identities of their players for whatever reasons. So, in this article, we shall just refer to them as [REDACTED].

Anyway, it was the Qasden goalkeeper, [REDACTED], who ensured that their deficit would not be more. Sylestone must have had at least 15 shots before the first intermission, but only nine were netted. It was the Qasden defence that let them down, barely ever intercepting the Hawthorns’ crisp passes.

That was the reason why the Qasden centre-back and right-back were substituted at the end of the first quarter. In place of [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] were [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. Despite being substitutions, it made an immediate impact upon the Qasden defence.

The second quarter was much closer. The Hawthorns still managed to win it, but it was only by the margin of seven goals to six. However, with Qasden being 0-0-4 and needing a win to stay in progression contention, things were not looking up for them. Five goals down against a side with an exact opposite record to them, a side who seemed prime to go a long way in the tournament, elimination seemed to be the only answer.

However, it did not stop the Qasden side from trying. The next quarter was even closer than the second - the half-time break rejuvenating both sides as they pushed, and failed, to gain an advantage. Seven goals were added onto the totals either side before the final intermission, with the Hawthorns 23-18 up. Qasden had tried their best, but their attempts were beginning to look futile.

They still, however, refused to give up. In the five minutes after the intermission, only two goals were scored - two to Qasden and just one to the Hawthorns. They were not out of this just yet. Still, when you’re 24-20 down and with only ten minutes left to play, you needed a miracle.

Yeah, they didn’t get one. Slowly, the Qasden players began to tire and as the Hawthorns put goals past them in a painstaking fashion, preferring to pass the ball around until a perfect opportunity occurred. Eventually, they scored five more goals to Qasden’s one. And with Srednjaci’s thrashing of Imperial Rifta, guess what? The Hawthorns had qualified for the final sixteen.

Up next are Imperial Rifta, a side who had a strong start to the World Cup before losing their past two games. They will be out in search of a victory, nothing less, as they run forwards into a possible qualification spot. However, with the Hawthorns standing in their way, chances look slightly grim.

Following Imperial Rifta will be the sixth-ranked Kriegiersien. However, a couple of bad games has really spelled concern for the Group 3 favourites. Can they make a comeback before it is too late?

After a rash of close games, the Bouncy Wolves finally were able to put some comfortable distance between themselves and an opponent with a straightforward 30 – 22 win over the Alezian Union. Jack Jockisson and Finngeir Lucasson were rested but the other starters stepped up, and Græntfjall move within sight of qualification. They face Frestovenia, but the real test will be their tough final day match-up with Group B leaders HUElavia. Samuele Henriksson will be rested against Frestovenia as an injury precaution after a suspected hairline fracture of the ring finger.

OOC: Apologies for half-assed work but fallen behind with election RP so suspending that for now until I have time to catch up.

OOC: Let's say it's a partial sketch of the next part of 'The Agent'.

Of course, while all of this was going on, Zinaida was having different thoughts back in her room. Not that she couldn't do much about it though - the desire to walk alone in the big streets of this M-named city, for once, was sufficient for her to start getting changed back to simple street clothes of a pale tee-shirt and Jeans. Her mind was once again bound in curiosity, and she were obliged to head to where the wind were blowing that late-May evening.

The lack of response from Pierre was highly favourable. Of course, Pierre was too busy having drinks with Christina Jo, whose discussions were starting to set up a crucial foundation for Zinaida's future career with Montreal Koreana and maybe to somewhere bigger. Not that Zinaida had minded much at this point though- she was young, beautiful and most importantly found herself as high as any hope could be. Perhaps hope and everything else that stood before her between now and the distant future were what kept her internally floating. To be fond of the chances, now that so much was lost and left behind from her childhood, were what Zina carried inside her mind.

'Here we go. Let's see how the city lights were going to be,' wrote Zina on her message to an old friend back in West Prince Eric Secondary, 'and perhaps, there would be pleasant surprises before it's too late and I have to sleep.'

So in a few minutes, Zina slowly opened her door, and found herself walking to the elevator. She was googling possible shops and maybe a couple of pubs on her phone to see if she would have any luck, for it was only eight-thirty in the evening. The Quebecois of the two metropoles, as always, have reputation for waking up late and staying up late, in the manners similar to our continental friends in the RLverse of Europe (or if you are from the author's world, Korea applies too), so that alone was enough for a sixteen-year old to sneak out while it's possible (Koreana academy has different rules with weekday outings).

Zinaida was soon descending along with the elevator, and still had she not thought of exact walking route. The trial was still going to happen early enough tomorrow, and she knew that there will be a wake-up call from the concierge as the first reminder, and then Pierre as the second warning. Zina was still quite unsure on how long she was going to be there either. Perhaps she had found herself as much of a tabula rasa as Pierre had thought of her as a prospect, or it may just be in that her state of mind's focused but in middle of this sea of disorientation where most others, without a positive mind and chance for hopes, would have been crushed already.

Don't worry, Zina. You can do this. said Zina as she tried to relax, quieting her fears down by saying that a short walk's going to be a short walk, even as the Montreal of 2047 has seen unfortunate tragedies against women in night hours. The short dose of being alone, and in nowhere while being at one of the most bustling districts of this city, was going to be enough for the night. And when the elevator finally stopped at the ground floor, she exited and found herself looking for the exit not far away from the front desk.

The big break for the boys

Hebitaka, a nation not much well known for Handball, with little to no trace of Handball domestic teams or players, created a national team to send for the Handball World Cup. And that was the start of a miracle. Playing the first two games Hebitaka won the both. The games were easier as the team had to face two unranked teams, the same as Hebitaka. And Hebitaka nailed in both of them, winning the first to Malandrin by 35 to 25 and the next to Pyazhnaya by 28 to 24. The games were a good headstart for the team in a sport totally unknown to this nation for decades. But the real challenge were up ahead, against the Equestrians in the third gameday. The previous two teams Hebitaka played were unranked teams that had little to no international experience. But the next matchup of Hebitaka was against an experienced team which rank 7th in the international stage. Even though the team was on a fall losing to the 23rd ranked Sarzonia, mostly due to the lack of support from the home fans who are more busy watching the football World Cup. But even after that for a debutant like Hebitaka to face the internationally adept Equestria was going to be hard. But the result stated otherwise. The Hebitaki team performed great beating the Equestrian states keeping the lead of 5 points by 29 to 24. Hebitaka defeated an internationally well ranked Handball team at their home ground. This news soon became the Headlines of all the newspapers and websites. The Unexpected had happened. The people of both the countries were shocked as Hebitaka defeated the mighty Equestria despite of the rank disadvantage as well as the disadvantage of playing the hosts. The victory was a result of a close score of 29 to 24. The first half was quite competitive and close with the Equestrians winning 13-10. But Hebitaka shook the second half as the winger Rajesh Bhuvan scored 7 out of his total 9 points in the second half. Scoring 19 points in the second half Hebitaka finished with 29 points winning against Equestria who only managed to rack up 24 points. It was surely a Big break for the boys. The Entire nation was on shocked to read the Newspaper. The craze for the sport among the Hebitaki increased as in the next game against the Sarzonians the total TV viewership of a HWC game increased by 5 times.

The Battle of Unbeaten

By the end of the 4th gameday, the top two teams of group 4, Hebitaka and Sarzonia, both unbeaten yet. Both the teams defeated the top notch and hosts Equestra. This game was going to be exciting a battle between the bests of the group 4 or as the Sarzonians called it, the battle of unbeaten. The first half of this game was boring, but close as it ended with both team having 10 points in their name. The second half started becoming more and more interesting. The Hebitaki scored 8 points within the 20 minutes while Sarzonia only managed to score 5. With only 10 minutes remaining, the Sarzonians suddenly brought a change in their tactics. Scoring 10 goals within the next 10 minutes, Sarzonians achieved the unbelievable as the Hebitaki players kept watching. Hebitaka was beaten in the Battle of Unbeaten by the Sarzonians with a score of 25 to 21.

The Karvian Chronicle

Sport - Finally a win; Pressure remains as Abanhfleft Qualifies

We were down but not out, due to our impressive performances in the first two games we still were in second place despite suffering two losses at the hands of Drawkland and Libonesia. These losses made our match against Magnecia a must win game, there wasn’t an alternative. We had to win especially after Abanhfleft defeated Libonesia to secure a qualification spot. We were up against Magnecia, a team that unlike Drawkland and Libonesia didn’t have experience on the international stage. This was an opportunity we couldn’t let go. Winning was crucial, and that’s what was our aim.
We however lacked two of our most crucial players who were injured in our last game against Libonesia.Neil Newell and Heath Adair who were injured were determined to have a torn meniscus and calf muscle pull respectively. Heath was expected to return by the end of Matchday 7 while Neil would be out for the HWC. Due to this injury to Neil Newell he was withdrawn from the World Cup and a replacement in the form of Zach Wray from Lagos Yetis was called up. The circumstances of this change were not ideal however the situation necessitated this, as continuing the campaign with only 1 centerback would be a risky move.
The match started with Lovell Ayers starting in centre back and Smith Hampson in the centre forward position. The first half was quite the sight of Bollonischian dominance as we pulled ahead 10-5. This good start early on was crucial to capitalise on this game and try to win it. This dominance didn’t stop in the 2nd quarter either with the score at half time being 18-11. Magnecia’s efforts to come back into the game were all in vain as we eventually held onto the huge lead ending the match with a scoreline of 29-21. This win gave us crucial 2 points which allowed us to stay above the pack and a win is all we need in our last game to make the Round of 16.
An interesting factor in Group 1 is that till now there isn’t a single team that has been outrightly eliminated and cannot finish in the top 4 spots, this makes the last and final match day even more crucial and interesting for teams in group 1. Abanhfleft however will have little to worry about as they have already secured their place in the knockouts and are to go through as group leaders if they win their next game.

Bollonich (Starting 7) - Laci Harper (GK), Jenna Waldroup (LB), Lovell Ayers (CB), Fern Tailor (RB), Marietta Johns (LW), Smith Hampson (P), Colin Akerman (RW)

Health - Improper nutrition cause for Injuries?

A few days ago in the Handball World Cup we saw 2 of our star players get injured. While one was a torn meniscus which was due to an improper landing the calf muscle pull has raised questions in the minds of lots of people. We also saw a similar injury happen to Miles Hum in the WCQ, hence what is the cause for such injuries taking place.
Looking at the problem from a surface level it seems easy to solve, muscle pulls are a common injury in sportsmen so there is nothing out of the ordinary. However on greater analysis of data it can be seen that there has bee an increase of muscle problems in athletes over the last 20 years. This time also saw the rise of fast foods in our country and increased rates of sugar consumptions
Looking at these numbers and increased consumption of fatty acids and foods points towards muscle problems in the entirety of the population. Studies conducted by scientists and medical practitioners points to an increased risk of muscle problems and muscle pains with the consumptions of high amounts of fast foods and sugar.
Not only this but recently we have also seen a drop off in the intensity and physicality in Bollonich’s play, this might also be due to increased tiring of players due to their unhealthy diets. Players have also been seen retiring earlier than they used to, while this may be due to them earning enough already for people who the beautiful game is a passion retiring early makes no sense. If thought about it this can be traced back to the increased obesity rate in adults at the age of 35, and also contraction of illnesses like diabetes.
What we are trying to convey by this is that it Is time, we start eating healthy food, stop our increasing consumption of fast foods. And also inculcate this into our athletes so they are safer and injuries can be reduced. It is time our athletes stop abusing their bodies and actually start treating it better for sport.

The Sylestonean > Sport > Handball > HWC 23

Sylestone guaranteed first place in Group 3 following 24-21 win

KARVIA, BOLLONICH - Up against Imperial Rifta on Matchday Six, our beloved Hawthorns were up against what was to be their biggest challenge yet after the match was over - Imperial Rifta. The two nations fought out a tense battle, but in the end, Sylestone came out on top, if only by three goals. The result meant that the Hawthorns would finish in first place in Group 3, no matter the result against Kriegiersien on head-to-head with Srednjaci. Srednjaci, on the other hand, were guaranteed second place while four sides fought for third place and guaranteed progression to the round of 16.

Alongside Arjunnagar and Qasden, Imperial Rifta were yet another side who had chosen not to reveal their roster. However, this process had previously worked for them, but coming into the game with the Hawthorns, they had lost two games in a row and with progression on the line, were looking for a win over the side with a perfect record. It would be a difficult job, but by no means impossible.

Unlike many of their opponents, Imperial Rifta began on the front foot. Almost immediately, Sylestone were being outplayed. The neutral Bollonischans in the room were absolutely shellshocked and understandably too, for they had seen the Hawthorns outplay every side they had come across. Their opponents had all challenged them to their last breath, but in the end, Sylestone were just too good. However, the reputation of their opponents did not stop the Imperial Riftan side, who took a 7-6 lead before the first intermission. However, the Hawthorns were nowhere near their best, something which changed in the second quarter.

After the intermission, the Hawthorns regained some of their momentum. They dominated play, passing the ball around agonisingly and only shooting at the best possible opportunity. It was beautiful play and while it led to only five Sylestonean goals, Imperial Rifta could only get three more as the Hawthorns took a 12-11 lead at the half-time break. However, a one point lead is effectively moot in the fast-flowing nature of handball and Sylestone would need to work their butts off to maintain it. Imperial Rifta were out for blood.

After half-time, though, the Hawthorns continued to hold their opponents off. It was the closest quarter yet, with both sides scoring six goals, with Sylestone’s one point lead remaining heading into the final intermission. In fact, it was only due to a brilliant goal from winger Lachlan Fosbrook in the final second of the quarter that the score wasn’t completely deadlocked, defying a desperate lunge from Imperial Rifta keeper [REDACTED] as the ball hit the post and rebounded into the net. Could the one point difference at half-time really separate the two sides?

It would not. After equalising early on, the Imperial Riftans slowly began to tire. It took them a while, but the Hawthorns began to dominate once again, scoring six goals to their opponents’ four as they took a 24-21 victory. However, it was a very close game and showed the multiverse that the Hawthorns may just be able to be beaten.

It was their closest so far. Only the West Phoenician game pushes it. But once again, the Hawthorns’ determination and pure skill surpassed that of their opponents as they took a sixth victory from as many games. It meant that Sylestone were assured first place in Group 3 and possibly first place overall, depending on other results.

However, with only Kriegiersien left, the Hawthorns would have to play at their absolute best in order to beat them. The sixth-ranked side in the multiverse have struggled their way through the competition, opening with two consecutive victories but only managing a singular draw from their last four games. With their qualification hopes lying by a thread, they have to beat the nation who has already taken first place in the group. Can they pull it off?

Postby Sarzonia » Wed Jun 02, 2021 5:44 am

The match against Gregary felt like a foregone conclusion for the Sarzonian national handball team, and the result itself did not disappoint anyone wearing Sarzonian white and navy.

The Stars made quick work of their opponents to the tune of a 29-22 victory that officially gave Sarzonia one of the three guaranteed spots in the Round of 16. A victory over Hebitaka, which also clinched a knockout round position with its 29-25 victory over Shreekar, essentially clinches the group title for Sarzonia as it has the head-to-head result over Hebitaka.

So, a Handball World Cup that began with questions surrounding manager Joyce Rodham now has the more enviable questions swirling around this team. For instance, what to do about the group stage finale against winless Malandrin? Do the Stars rest up and save energy for the knockout rounds?

Rodham shook her head.

"If we're talking about preserving our energy for the knockout rounds, we may as well pack up and leave now," she said. "We can't afford to lose focus, even against an opponent that hasn't had much good fortune in this tournament."

So Sarzonia will play its starters, but the only question is how long they will play. Rodham said "game situations" would dictate the answer to that question.

As for the knockout seeding, Sarzonia would currently have the No. 1 overall seed with the best goal differential among the remaining unbeaten sides with plus-36, including Group 2 winners HUElavia (plus-27) and Group 3 leaders Sylestone (plus-34). Rodham said her aim was to ensure that the Stars (6-0) earned that No. 1 overall seed and a matchup against the best fourth place side among all the groups. Currently, that would be Group 2's Græntfjall with a 3-2-1 record. However, she was quick to say that didn't make Græntfjall an easy out.

"They're in a tough group with HUElavia, The Greater Nordics, and Frestnovenia, among others," she said. "And it's no slam dunk that they'll even end up in fourth place in that group."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Pat Agnew said the team would be ready for whomever their knockout round opponent was.

HANDBALL WORLD CUP 23

Srednjaci qualify with 38-29 victory over Kriegiersien

From match to match, our team looks stronger and better. The grinding machine better known as Master Bears, scored 38 goals to Kriegiersien. Nearly 40 goals were scored by our attack to the powerless Kriegiersien. Although Kriegiersien has great players, it is the team that is the sixth seed, our players were predominant on the floor. At one point in the game it was +12 but by the end of Kriegiersien managed to mitigate the painful defeat. The Srednjaci team have the deadliest attack in the tournament played so far. The Master Bears scored 187 goals in 6 matches making them the most effective in the tournament. Taxonomic Kingdoms are second with 179 goals and Sarzonia is third with 176 goals.

The incredible Antonija Ružić scored 16 goals

Already in the first half, there was a catastrophe for Kriegiersien when our players made a 6-0 advantage. Seven minutes and 23 sec. Kriegiersien's players didn't score!
By the end of the first half, the advantage grew even more, so that the first half ended 24:16! In the second half, the defenses of both teams were simply not at the peak of the task. Both teams rotated a lot on goal in order to stop the attacks. However, the defenses were through and our attack was deadly. It is unbelievable when Antonija Ružić with her 197 cm rises into the air and shoots over 170 km / h over the raised arms of the Kriegiersien defense. Such blasts are unstoppable.
Antonija Ružić finally scored 16 goals, which is her absolute record!
Ines Bošnjak added 9 goals, Tihana Udvarić gave 14 assists and scored 4 goals.
Pivot Marina Prgomet scored 5 goals and Konjuh scored the most from the wing with 3 goals.

SCORER OF THE MATCH Antonija Ružić 16 goals
PLAYER OF THE MATCH Tihana Udvarić

West Phoenicia vs Srednjaci

We are playing the last game in the group against the third-placed team in our group. The Master Bears qualified for further competition. But we don’t believe the coach will change the team. The more they play together the better they are on the field.
West Phenicia has three wins and a draw. There must be no relaxation because otherwise the West Phenicia players could make a surprise.
Our team does not want surprises and we do not want it either. We want a win against West Phenicia too!
Let's look at the other matches of our group as well as the table.

Hungry for Handball
with Aisling Keane

Well, that was unexpected. That came out of of absolutely nowhere. Where the fuck did that come from? How in the world have we managed to beat Drawkland by eleven goals? Man, handball can be such a weird sport sometimes. I can't believe we managed to make it to this point, to be frank. After a shaky start, for some reason we're now top of Group A. You know what this means now, yes? We're about to get spanked so hard sometime soon. I can't help it. It's just my inner pessimist. If you've been following Fleftic sports for as long as I have then you'll understand. If you've been a fan of any given Fleftic team out there for a long time then you'll understand as well.

Let me paint you all a picture of just how unbelievable this whole thing is. You all know about the Drawkians, right? Tall motherfuckers who are at least eight feet tall or so (citations needed). They're also very strong peoples as well. Not absurdly strong, but definitely freakishly strong. I definitely wouldn't want to mess with the average Drawkian, let alone an actual bloody Drawkian athlete. Now, 32 may not seem like a very high rank in the context of handball, but the Drawks didn't get there just by standing around! They had to have at least some results go their way to get such a decent rank in the standings. Just look at the abundance of unranked nations swamping this current Handball World Cup. We started out as an unranked nation as well, and so did Drawkland. We put together some good results, and so did Drawkland. But as to how far up the rankings our two nations progressed, that is when our paths started to diverge. We kept getting good results, even making it to two finals. Drawkland, well, I don't know for how long they've been doing this, but it's safe to say that they've kind of stalled out. However, that doesn't mean that they're completely toothless. On the contrary, Drawkland have actually managed to win a couple of games this World Cup. They're definitely no pushovers, and as such we should be treating them with the due respect they deserve, even if their handball team hasn't really lived up to the sporting legacy that their whole nation has.

Which is why the result of this game is a big heap of surprise for me. I mean, I can understand us just barely managing to scrape past the Drawks. But a clear and dominant win? That just doesn't happen, especially not with Abanhfleft. But it looked to me as if we had a clear game plan in mind, and we simply executed it perfectly. What was the game plan, you may ask? Well, since the Drawks are so tall, it seems as if we just went and played the ground game. And, to quote my Cousin Graham, "by Jove, it worked!" Like, seriously. How in the world did keeping it low actually manage to work against Drawkland? I know that in the past few days that shit was a meme, but now the meme has become reality, and I don't know how to react to that. I mean, of course I'm happy that we freaking won, but I guess it was the manner in which we got the win which surprised me the most. I really don't know what to do now. You can't see me right now but I'm just shrugging my shoulders because it's already happened, and I'm glad that it did. Now let's see if we can keep this up against Libonesia. Now that's going to be the true test of our mettle and will show if we truly have a right to call ourselves as contenders for the Handball World Cup title.

HANDBALL WORLD CUP 23

WITHOUT ANTONIJA RUŽIĆ AND INES BOŠNJAK SREDNJACI BETTER THAN WEST PHOENICIA

West Phoenicia 23–28 Srednjaci

Even before this match, everything was clear to us. Still, victory is important to us. We thought that the coach would put our team stronger against West Phenicia, but that didn't happen. We were without Antonija Ružić and Tihana Udavrić the whole match. The girls watched the game from the stands. And Udovčić and Konjuh occasionally entered the game.
Despite these changes, the victory against West Phenicia was out of the question and our handball players successfully overcame that obstacle. The game and the weave were well placed and the counterattacks were deadly. At one point in the game, the advantage was + 10 (18-8), but Martina Matanović sent pivot Marina Prgomet on bench from the game. Ivana Pandžić came in instead. The advantage until the end was +5 for Master Bears. Our girls are finally second in the group, Sylestone has a flawless effect.

FIGHT FOR THE QUARTERFINALS AGAINST GRAENTFJALL

The draw was not in our favor to play off. We got one of the toughest opponents, Græntfjall. Despite not showing anything special in this championship, they are a tournament team. They play better as the tournament progresses. However, we play the same. This will be a great clash between two great teams.
Græntfjall amassed four wins in Group 2. They barely won the first game against Castlelobruxo and then two draws followed against Ethane and The Greater Nordics. What Ethan failed to do, Frestovenia succeeded. Frestovenia won by one goal more. It was the only one defeat Græntfjall had. In the last round, when more or less everything was resolved, they defeated the indisposed HUElavia. The HUElavia players were already in the playoffs with their heads and the victory was more important for the Græntfjall players.
Their attack did not have strong effects. Their attacking players often rush and shoot from all sides, inaccurately. The attack scored 186 goals. They had a chance to score a lot more but they are quite inaccurate. This is one of the opportunities for our handball players. They are tall and corpulent, they are more static than our team that plays fluttery and fast. Only one player is shorter than 190 cm, which makes their defense poorly mobile. Jack Jockisson showed the most. Great player in the position of the left back. But there is also Anders Andersson who can do a lot of damage. The defense received four goals less than ours, but the attack scored far fewer goals than ours.
From this it is clear that the match will be tied and that the nuances will decide the winner, we hope that it will be us. GO MASTER BEARS! GO SREDNJACI !!

Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

Postby Kotzellach » Thu Jun 03, 2021 9:09 am

The session of Parliament dragged on; already most of the major parties had had their say, and the responses were pretty much as Baumann had expected. The Greens, New Democrats and the Social Democrats were against Foxchester, moreso by virtue of the KDA being in support of it than anything else. Baumann had called this out, yet they'd continued to throw their ludicrously far-fetched — to Baumann, anyway — reasons for not ratifying the treaty.

Seidl had remained conspicuously quiet on the issue, instead poring over notes, and refusing to react to anything that Baumann or the Opposition had said. The time was ripe, then; during a recess Baumann approached Andreas, who was obviously surprised that the Chancellor was addressing him. Bringing him into a quieter, more isolated part of the room, Kurt made a spontaneous decision. This would be done without plenipotentiaries. These negotiations would be conducted one-on-one.

"Leader of the Opposition," opened Kurt.

"Chancellor," Seidl replied. The two shook hands.

"I cannot help but notice that you've not reacted much to today's proceedings."

"Yes, well, this matter is a delicate one. And there are good arguments made on both sides."

"I'll cut to the chase, Herr Seidl. You think this is a good idea. Your party thinks it is not, mostly because my party forms government, and I am the evil leader of the Kotzellach Democratic Alliance. Therefore any idea I back is automatically wrong, and the direct opposite of it is automatically the correct solution that you should strive towards. Is that not how it is?"

"That is not how we do politics here. If you wish that, I suggest you approach the Greens or the Social Democrats."

"The reason I am not doing so is because I already know what they are saying. They will vote no, no matter what I do, no matter what overtures or concessions I make towards them. I come to you in confidence because I know you feel the same way as I do regarding Foxchester."

"And what if I said that I didn't?"

"Then you would be betraying your party's strategy of being my party but nicer, wouldn't you?" A grin appeared on his face. "A pity. It worked so well for you a year ago. It would be a shame if that reputation went up in tatters."

Seidl looked left, and looked right. "I will be honest with you, Chancellor."

"Please."

"I do believe that Foxchester is the right way forward. I cannot bear to see this country in the midst of Starblaydia, Savigliane, Mertagne, whatever the hell they're doing, and Quebec, being a lonely soul in a field of brothers. There are many matters on which we disagree on, Herr Baumann, and many matters that we do. But for this...I am on your side."

"Excellent."

"However, the more...rebellious members of the Party, the ones who eminently dislike you so. They are the major roadblocks. Our caucus meeting resulted in a deadlock, and no official stance was given. I can, at most, guarantee you sixteen votes."

Sixteen votes. One short of the crucial mark.

"Is there not anything you can do?"

"I will be implementing a three-line whip."

"Admirable. But it will be broken?"

"Most definitely."

"And what of the consequences?"

"I will be ousted should I try to do anything against them. You see, Herr Baumann, that is the glorious gift of being in charge of a unified party. Nobody argues against you. There are no factions."

"You are greatly misinformed."

"I might be. But you are able to count on the unanimous support of your party. I have to grovel to each wing of the party, each faction of the party, cap in hand. The keys of power are many, and I cannot promise much in such a binary decision as this. I will implement a three-line whip, but how many follow it will be undetermined."

"I need seventeen votes, Herr Seidl."

"I know, Herr Baumann. It is my intent to see this treaty ratified. But it may be difficult."

In the distance, the division bell rang. It was time for Parliament to reconvene.

"Do your best, Herr Seidl. And would it kill you to make a speech in favour of the Declaration?"

"I prefer to keep my cards closer to my chest. I ask that you do not make a speech beforehand outing my support of the Declaration before, and if, I signal my support for it."

"Very well.

"We shall talk again after the vote. Debts have to be repaid."

"We shall talk again only if the Declaration is ratified."

A grim smile crossed Andreas Seidl's face.

"So we shall."

The only drama remaining for the Sarzonian national handball team that anyone on the players bench was even talking about was whether Sarzonia or Sylestone would end up as the No. 1 overall seeds in the knockout rounds.

Sylestone were winning their match against Kriegiersien by nine goals, but no one had seen the match had already gone final because the depth players were too busy lobbying Stars manager Joyce Rodham to allow them some playing time in the waning minutes of their 29-19 victory over Malandrin. Finally, Rodham relented, giving the depth players a chance to get some playing time.

As soon as their match went final and Rodham finished her post-match handshake with Blue Wolves manager Leko Vartemita and a brief post-match interview with Equestrian broadcast reporters, she finally looked up and saw "Full time" next to the scoreline reading Kriegiersien 24-33 Sylestone. She watched carefully as the final Group 3 and Group 4 tables flashed on the videoboard and saw that the Stars had a plus-46 goal differential to the Hawthorns' plus-43 margin. She knew right then that the Stars would get the No. 1 overall seed and the match against the best fourth place side remaining in the Handball World Cup.

She walked into the dressing room as the players gathered and watched the playoff seeding table flash on the television screen. The Stars would face Frestovenia, the fourth place side in Group 2, but a team that had a 4-1-2 record despite being the lowest seeds. Sarzonia's next opponents stumbled badly in their final match, playing to a 29-29 draw against bottom-table Alezian Union to deprive themselves of a guaranteed spot in the knockout rounds and avoid a first round match against the Stars. Still, that gave Rodham plenty of ammunition to motivate her side for their Round of 16 fixture.

"We know we're going to have a tougher match than some might expect with this fourth place side," she said in an interview with assembled media. "They may be the only fourth place side still alive, but their group essentially became a Group of Death. They had HUElavia, Græntfjall and The Greater Nordics in their group. Those are all quality teams and none of the teams in Group 2 are going to be easy outs."

Rodham made clear she wasn't bemoaning her team's luck as Sarzonia (7-0) prepare to face a team some might argue was much tougher than 15th seeded West Phoenicia, which come in 3-1-3 after falling 28-23 to Srednjaci in their Group 3 finale. That team have been made the 14th seed because they would have otherwise faced Sylestone in the first round, and standard sporting protocol is to avoid first round matches against group opponents. That means the Hawthorns will face nominal 15th seeds Croblade, who finished 4-0-3 with a 31-23 victory over Drawkland to draw the third playoff spot from Group 1. The Stars were the No. 1 seeds, and thus now held the mantle of favourites. And it was her responsibility to ensure that the team earned that moniker.

"We know we're going to get their best effort," goalkeeper Pat Agnew said of Frestovenia. "They're going to come in completely motivated to beat us and show they belong in the knockout rounds."

Even though they and starting right back Vivianne Taylor famously don't get along, Taylor agreed with her team's goalie.

"They're going to come in with a chip on their shoulders feeling like they have something to prove," Taylor said. "We're not going to take them lightly. We can't. We're still the 23rd ranked team in handball. We can't take anything for granted."

Sport - Qualification secured; Heitaka in the Round of 16

We were coming into the game against Oprimide after a good win against Magnecia. This match was crucial to our qualification possibilities as a win would secure 2nd place in our group and a relatively good seeding despite our two losses to Drawkland and Libonesia, teams that didn’t make the playoffs. These two losses had come back to bite us slightly as we could now only qualify from 2nd place following Abanhfleft’s victory over Magnecia. We needed to win against Oprimide to get a good seeding in the knockouts, however our chances were greatly hampered by the two injuries. Trix Joseph the head coach of the National Handball Team also made a change to his side as Lovell Ayers was rested and Zach Wray played. This was a questionable decision considering the fact that Wray had limited fitness coming into the tournament.
The first quarter started with Oprimide immediately taking the upper hand, scoring multiple goals and taking a slight lead of 7-6. The second quarter was even better from them as they extended their lead to 17-13. Things weren’t looking merry for us, and the fans at Vreton were shell shocked. Bollonischians expected our team to do well especially at home with support from our fans. In the match against Oprimide this however wasn’t the case so far. We needed to make a comeback, we needed to. And make a comeback is what we did. In the third quarter after a brilliant time of play from Hampson we suddenly found ourselves leading 21-18. We needed to keep this going, in a tournament where we hadn’t been too consistent we at least needed to secure the game in last quarter. The last quarter was again dominated by us as we put 7 more goals past them while conceding only 3. We had done it, qualification was sealed with us coming in 2nd place.
In the next round which is the Round of 16 we were to face Hebitaka the side which had finished 2nd in Group 4 below Sarzonia at 11 points. This match up was going to be difficult for the Bollonischians as Hebitaka was a good team as also this was the first time in the whole tournament that they would be playing at Equestria. Heath Adair’s absence was a further blow to our chances as after the game Joseph the head coach confirmed that Heath Adair will not be featured in the squad for the match against Hebitaka. According to the playoff bracket Bollonich will face Sarzonia most probably if they make it past Hebitaka. Sarzonia who face Frestovenia have a relatively easy tie and it is expected of them to make it past them and are considered major title contenders.

Politics - Meet the Socialists

The Fermont 2021 Senate Electoral scandal, is the 2nd largest electoral scandal in the history of Bollonischian politics. Following this scandal and the imprisonment of a large number of high level Socialist Party officials the Socialist Marxist Party has been rapidly changing as it has seen a surge of young people join it’s ranks, and it’s presidential candidates are all below the age of 40. Such revitalisation of a political party is similar to what happened in the 1950s and with the implosion of the Libertarian Party and the creation of the Liberal Party. The SMP or Socialist Marxist Party is the longest running party and an implosion is not expected. However a top to bottom change is what is happening ahead of the 2022 elections.
The new leaders and figures of the Socialist Party have received good reactions from the public with a growth in their popularity in Lorfgrania. This revamping meant that the presidential candidates for the upcoming elections were people completely new to the Bollonischian political scene. Hence we have dug deep and got all about them just for you.

Belle Cason - She was a student of the Marda University, one of the most prestigious university in Bollonich. She has a post doctorate in Political Science. The 27 year old has been highly active in Socialist politics and stated she shall be running for President recently at her graduation. If she is elected into office which at the moment unlikely, she shall become Bollonich’s youngest President elected into office. She has often voiced her opinions towards socialist leaning policies economically, better working conditions, increase in the minimum wage and also centralisation of major industries.

Nadia Ray - The 43 year old economics professor at the Bollonischian National Institute is a profound supporter of the Socialist Party who has risen through their ranks following the downfall of the big power holders. He is from Akusha in Lorfgrania and has a huge following there which makes us believe he might be the one standing for Senator in the next Lorfgrania State Elections and gives him a good chance to win. He has often shown and tried to express through his research the benefits of a state planned economy.

The Liberal Party who supported the Fermont Riots and the imprisonment of high stature Socialist Party individuals expected to get away easy ahead of the 2022 elections due to the lack of leaders, but little did they know that so many people would rise up to battle for power in 2022. These are encouraging signs for the entirety for Bollonischian Politics as people are always waiting in the sidelines to get in on the act.
