Siovanija & Teusland National Football Team

Facts

Nation Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland
Short Names: Siovanija and Teusland, the United Republics
Demonyms: Siovanijan, Teus
FA: Siovanija and Teusland Football Association (STFA)
Colours: Blue and gold
Anthem: ‘High Mountain Skies’
Capital City: Borograd
Other Major Cities: St. Jakob, Stelburg, Vlaikograd, Chernovets, Felsenkirchen
Highest Domestic Youth League: Republikaliga
Nicknames: The Goldhorns
Style Modifier: +2.5

Manager: Gavin Hughes (APX)

It might be a bit of a surprise that Gavin Hughes returns to the bench of the Goldhorns for another campaign, particularly after the number of obituaries that were written for his job after the Goldhorns appeared in danger of missing out on World Cup 87. But one miraculous 8-7 win and a trip to the Round of 16 later, and Hughes is back for his 6th campaign with the national team. It’s a squad very similar to the one seen in qualifiers two years ago, with two key moves: Raphael Klopfer and Ivo Romanov, both legendary players, have each retired. The core of the team is the same, however, and the goal is as always to reach the World Cup Finals. It’ll be the typical 4-3-3 attacking system that has gotten the Goldhorns to this point, but one might argue time for change might be on the horizon.

Extended Squad - Qualifiers

Caps and goals as of AOCAF 62. Players with NSSWiki articles will have them linked.

Goalkeepers

GK -- Ewald Heuser -- Brinemouth (NPH) -- 29y/o -- 62 caps, 12 clean sheets
GK -- Anatoli Sveteikov -- Olympia Borograd -- 35y/o -- 21 caps, 6 clean sheets
GK -- Lino Kaberle -- Sporting Iturributa (ASG) -- 22y/o -- Uncapped
GK -- Dennis Eulenberg -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 32y/o -- 3 caps, 1 clean sheet

Ewald Heuser has proven himself one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world, the #1 for his club, Brinemouth, and a key part of their march to the Premiership title last season. A sweeper-keeper, Heuser is one cap from tying Viktor Venev’s all-time appearances record for goalkeepers, and two away from holding the record on his own. It’ll be a certainly deserved accomplishment for him. Anatoli Sveteikov is ever-reliable, and probably deserved more than his 21 caps to date in his career - but he’s managed to always be the second-best keeper, never the best. Lino Kaberle had an excellent season in Astograth, as the young player of the year in the league, and the prodigy gets his first-ever senior chance here. Strong and agile, Kaberle has the strange distinction of being incredible at penalties - dating back to his time as a forward in the TSV Marzig youth academy. Don’t be surprised if at some point in his career he gets a chance from the spot. Dennis Eulenberg made a great start to life at FC Teussen Stelburg, but he might find himself on the outside looking in here: behind Heuser and Sveteikov, and struggling for minutes against a player who is more likely to have a bigger role with the team in the future.

Left Backs

LB -- Edgar Steimle -- 1912 Stelburg -- 30y/o -- 87 caps, 2 assists
LB -- Lyubomir Dimitrov -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 33y/o -- 62 caps, 2 assists
LB -- Axel Richter -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 28y/o -- 25 caps
LB -- Bastian Mendel -- SW Stahlberg -- 27y/o -- 2 caps, 1 assist

Edgar Steimle is the main man for the Goldhorns here on the left side, the quick fullback being likely to break the 100 caps mark in these Qualifiers. Concerns that he may have been losing some of that pace at the last AOCAF were thrown out after a brilliant season in the league with 1912 Stelburg, and he’s hoping to find his form again at the international level. Lyubomir Dimitrov was once a very similar player, but through injuries and a loss of pace thanks to age, he’s transformed into a very solid defensive fullback, and found a home once again in the national team. Axel Richter is a similar player to Steimle, and now that he’s a bit more mature there’s some talk that he might pose a challenge to Steimle for that #3 shirt. Bastian Mendel, meanwhile, is a solid defensive player who is still finding his role in this team, the hope is this tournament might be a bit of a break-out for him.

Centre Backs

CB -- Karl-Heinz Jager -- Raynor City United (VAL) -- 30y/o -- 116 caps, 9 goals, 2 assists
CB -- Erich Thierse -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 33y/o -- 58 caps, 1 goal
CB -- Taras Maksimov -- Energija Chernovets -- 26y/o -- 15 caps
CB -- Tristan Niedermayer -- AFC Corvistone (NPH) -- 28y/o -- 23 caps, 1 goal
CB -- Niklas Kronthaler -- AS Bezieres (VLD) -- 34y/o -- 6 caps, 0 goals
CB -- Paul Steinhausl -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 21y/o -- Uncapped

It’s the beginning of a changing of the guard here. Karl-Heinz Jager, of course, retains his spot as a key member of the squad. The centre back won the Premiership again with the Rockers last season, and is on track to be the most-capped defender in national team history by the end of his career. Good on the ball, and strong on the tackle, Jager is a leader on this team. Partnering him - at least at the start of qualifiers - will be Teussen defender Erich Thierse, who is a similar player and also has good chemistry with Jager. Niels Kronthaler is back in the squad after an incredible year in Valladares where he was Defender of the Year, as his Bezieres side captured the Liga-1 title. Taras Maksimov had an incredible season with Chernovets in a title-winning campaign, and he’s expected to get a few more looks here - he might even be the consensus pick beside Jager by the end. Tristan Niedermayer will want to impose himself in that conversation too, however, and the Corvistone defender will have every opportunity to do exactly that. Young boy Paul Steinhausl has been an important part of Goldhorns youth squads in past years and now gets the call to the big team.

Right Backs

RB -- Darijen Vesele -- Rene Skae (FFD) -- 28y/o -- 41 caps, 1 goal, 2 assists
RB -- Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere -- 1912 Stelburg -- 29y/o -- 61 caps, 4 assists
RB -- Trude Spitz -- Parrhesia United (NPH) -- 32y/o -- 8 caps, 1 assist
RB -- Thorsten Helmke -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 36y/o -- 53 caps, 3 assists

Darijen Vesele is arguably the best right back in the world right now, and was recognized as such in the Galacticos XI. He’s an incredible piece for this team to have, so fast down the wing and with an excellent cross. It’s made him a standout for his club team, too, where he was one of the best players in the new Shango-Fogoa Premier League. He was a bit of a late bloomer on the international level, though, and now that he’s really in his prime, it’s time for him to dominate. He’s come at exactly the right time - Pierre-Louis Lotbiniere slumping a bit, and a core of players that aren’t getting any younger - Trude Spitz and Thorsten Helmke both over 30. Helmke has announced that he will be retiring after World Cup 88. For now, it’s the Darijen Vesele show, and we’re all just along for the ride.

Centre Midfield

CM -- Thorsten Kramer -- 1830 Cathair (AUD) -- 33y/o -- 190 caps, 61 goals, 74 assists
CM -- Todor Mihailov -- Revolutionaries (EUR) -- 29y/o -- 91 caps, 4 goals, 10 assists
CM -- Heinrich Bahr -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 28y/o -- 45 caps, 5 goals, 2 assists
CM -- Vsevolod Hristov -- Energija Chernovets -- 27y/o -- Uncapped
CM -- Henrik Martin -- Di Maozoxe (FFD) -- 24y/o -- Uncapped
CM -- Jesper Porsche -- Busembe Timberwolves (BNJ) (on loan) -- 20y/o -- Uncapped

Thorsten Kramer is the greatest player in our nation’s history, and his legend continues to grow as he helped 1830 Cathair to another league title and an AOCL title last season. He’s still missing, however, more international success - having played such a massive part in bringing this team to the World Cup Finals, he would like to see them go a bit further now. Tipped as the next captain of the national squad, Kramer is undoubtedly the face of football in this country. Todor Mihailov was excellent at his new club, helping Revolutionaries to a Euraleague title, and hopes to continue his excellent career beside Kramer here. Heinrich Bahr has always been reliable as well for the national team. The real story in midfield may be the players that are tipped to make debuts here. Vsevolod Hristov was dominant in Chernovets’ midfield en route to a title win, and gets his first international opportunity here. Henrik Martin had an incredible season in Farfadillis, one of the top players in the new Shango-Fogoa Premier League, and he gets the opportunity to make his name at the highest possible level here. Jesper Porsche is a star renowned across the nation, having already been compared with new international teammate Thorsten Kramer, and he might just get a chance to make his first appearance for his country at this tournament.

Left Wing

LW -- Mario Kogler -- Chromatik (CMT) -- 32y/o -- 82 caps, 14 goals, 18 assists
LW -- Lojze Kokalj -- Olympia Borograd -- 27y/o -- 39 caps, 6 goals
LW -- Linus Segert -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 30y/o -- 8 caps
LW -- Andrey Bunev -- FK Metropola Borograd -- 26y/o -- 1 cap, 1 goal

This is another position where the succession plan is becoming evident. Mario Kogler is still the dominant winger he’s been for many years for this team - and a strong first year in Chromatika helps his case to keep the #7 shirt. But behind him lurking are Lojze Kokalj and Andrey Bunev, two young and hungry wingers who want to be the guy for their country. Kokalj has had the most success - and was arguably the Goldhorns’ second-best player at the disappointing AOCAF. Bunev, however, is coming off a better year for his club. Both should see plenty of opportunities - while Felsenkirchen’s Linus Segert is here, too. Segert, however, suffers from the rivalries he has developed with many of the core squad members at the domestic level - there’s fears he may disrupt the dressing room. His talent is enough, however, that he’ll get the odd chance here and there.

Centre Attacking Midfield

CAM -- Leopold Bliznakov --Oakstone (EUR) -- 27y/o -- 34 caps, 5 goals, 14 assists
CAM -- Kurt Witzel -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 30y/o -- 29 caps, 5 goals, 8 assists
CAM -- Viktor Dimitrov -- Energija Chernovets -- 36y/o -- 140 caps, 10 goals, 64 assists
CAM -- Julian Werner -- FC Rotmunde 1932 -- 27y/o -- 11 caps, 2 goals, 4 assists

Leopold Bliznakov is fresh off a big-money move to the Euraleague and will be hoping to show his new club exactly why they bought the dynamic playmaker at these qualifiers. Kurt Witzel is the main back-up option now, the Teussen midfielder being a very solid option for his county across 29 appearances. Viktor Dimitrov can still be relied on for a good game, but at 36 years old, it’s expected this might be his last run in the blue and gold. Julian Werner gets the other spot on the extended list, the smart Rotmunde midfielder a dark horse candidate to supplant Werner by the end of Qualifiers.

Right Wing

RW -- Lukas Tauscher -- Brinemouth (NPH) -- 28y/o -- 80 caps, 23 goals, 16 assists
RW -- Gerold Tegeler -- 1912 Stelburg -- 31 y/o -- 6 caps
RW -- Florian Krukenberg -- FC Felsenkirchen 1879 -- 23y/o -- Uncapped
RW -- Gustaf Liechtenstein -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 20y/o -- Uncapped

Lukas Tauscher is the dominant player here, and maybe the best attacking player in the team. His move to Brinemouth proved fruitful, the club winning the Nepharim Premiership title in his first season, and Tauscher won the Iron Fist as debutant of the year. He’s a true star, and one the Goldhorns can count on. Gerold Tegeler is back in the squad after a strong year in 1912 Stelburg, but eyes are really on Florian Krukenberg. He had an excellent debut year for Felsenkirchen, and has been a star at the youth level as well. His break-out, alongside Vanorian Young Galactico Lothas Ludwig, helped lift Felsenkirchen to second in the league - and Krukenberg could make an incredible impact here. He’s excelled for the national team so far - and watch out for young Gustaf Liechtenstein too, the Teussen winger looking solid at a young age for his club as well.

Centre Forward

CF -- Stanimir Ilev -- CA Paulinthal (PAS) -- 33y/o -- 25 caps, 19 goals, 1 assist
CF -- Michael Ribbeck -- Kingsgrove (BRE) -- 32y/o -- 118 caps, 96 goals, 3 assists
CF -- Krasimir Kynev -- Ibini FC (VAL) -- 33y/o -- 99 caps, 49 goals
CF -- Ludwig Reichwein -- FC Teussen Stelburg -- 32y/o -- 43 caps, 13 goals
CF -- Denis Dezelac -- Olympia Borograd -- 24y/o -- 4 caps, 1 goal
CF -- Erik Moselle -- 1830 Cathair (AUD) -- 24y/o -- Uncapped
CF -- Marian Hovlak -- Soldarian FC (VAL) -- 21y/o -- Uncapped

There are many, many battles going on here, and each should hopefully inspire some great play from those leading the line for the Goldhorns. Firstly, it’s Stanimir Ilev and Michael Ribbeck for the #9. Ilev has been absolutely lethal in the Pasargan league, unplayable on his day, and winning the Golden Boot each year he has been in the league. Ribbeck, meanwhile, is the country’s all-time leading goalscorer, and its most-capped forward. After a strong AOCAF, Ilev has the advantage coming in, but both men will get plenty of opportunities to show their class. Next, it’s the battle for the main third option between Krasimir Kynev, Ludwig Reichwein and young Denis Dezelac. Kynev and Reichwein have each proven reliable throughout their international careers, while Dezelac has made a big start to his career, winning trophies everywhere he’s gone, and scoring, too. Dezelac, Moselle and Hovlak are also in a bit of a battle to see who the future leader of the line will be. Dezelac is in the driver’s seat, surely - but big moves by Erik Moselle to 1830 Cathair and Marian Hovlak to Vanorian side Soldarian could see either of them really develop their careers.

Coaching Staff

Wolcjeck Gruber - 52 - Manager - Austroslovakia
Ian Osborne - 46 - Assistant Manager - Euran Oceania Territories

The Euran Oceania Territories is a parliamentary federal dominion of Eura, formed of the Euran zone of the former Inevitable Syndicate and the Whittorian Islands. It has a population of around forty million people which is quickly rising, making it a beacon of diversity home to Syndicatians, Whittorian refugees, Euran migrants, Apoxians, Audioslavians, Samebans and many others. It has possibly the world's largest artificial crater, which dominates the landscape west of what is now a rebuilt Fligsive, the capital of this new entity. Its home stadium is the the Flynn Arena, where Eura beat Polar Islandstates 4-2 in the famous 66th World Cup final. Few would have predicted that the colours of red, blue and gold would become permanent there but its happened, and the stadium is now back in good condition after an expensive refit to return it to the 96,500 capacity it held previously.

Previously a wooden stadium, the current iteration of the Flynn Arena was rebuilt after a great fire destroyed the stadium during a game between Fligsive FC and Magnaeus City. Nowadays, it's a little more robust, having been the subject of many refurbishment projects over the years. The stadium was easily reachable on the Fligsive Metro before the violent overthrow of the Corvidae regime and the associated disaster in Fligsive. It now sports a combination of the old paint job as well as Euran blue and gold while the local club Fligsive FC are still in existence despite drawing lower crowds after the Mertagne exodus. Though they did not play in the hastily cobbled together amateur EOTLeague, they are the dominant side in the new professional EOFL.

Euran Oceania Territories formed a national football team not long after the founding of the political entity, a project conjured up by the Euran government Ministry of Sport to imbue a sense of cohesion among the diverse population of EOT. They played a series of friendlies against other "Eurasphere" sides from Endemia and Rushmore in a lengthy state subsidised tour. Their first games were defeats against Daera, Itor and the Ferguson Islands, before an unexpected 4-3 victory against Helving, despite their Euraleague star Scott Barnes scoring a hat trick.

They then entered the 50th AOCAF full of excitement despite having a mostly amateur team, including serving military personnel, but were promptly demolished in the group stages by several teams. Now, with the citizenship laws relaxed to allow the growth of the Territories, the "Underdogs" as they have come to call themselves were suddenly confident that they might be able to pull off a shock or two. Their first manager was of top class pedigree - Tolgus Tregajorran, a footballing hero in Apox who was well known on the international scene.

Tregajorran managed to persuade some former Apoxian internationals, playing in Eura and with no international allegiance following the temporary dismemberment of Apoxian professional football, to sign the relevant papers and make the surprise switch to EOT, as well as Euran's and other international exiles. After several years of bit part competition EOT competed in the World Cup qualifiers for the first time and in turn the Baptism of Fire, after the Sameban national team withdrew from the Endemian International Sporting Agreement and international football.

EOT performed poorly at the Baptism of Fire, going out at the group stage, but put on a respectable showing in their qualifying group for the 80th World Cup. Tregajorran's unexpected departure and a chaotic period followed with Rhys West as manager, who was soon sacked over an off-the-pitch indiscretion. It ended with the controversial appointment of Euran footballing legend and cult icon Skorji Oslograd halfway through World Cup 81 qualifying. Immediately applying Oslograd's "Skorjiball" approach - best summarised as an extremely aggressive and fluid attacking game interrupted sporadically by the manager doing something inappropriate - the team secured some noteworthy results but remained very much an underdog competitor reliant on an aging core within its squad.

Oslograd's dream of turning the Expats into the living embodiment of "the way of the warrior" and getting them to the World Cup achieved mixed results. He put them on the map and achieved some memorable (some might say historic) victories, beating Audioslavia and Valanora being among the highlights, and during his last two campaigns Oslograd got the Expats playing their best World Cup qualifying football to date. Most importantly Oslograd played a huge role in strengthening the domestic game and creating the first professional league in the territories since the days of Mertagne. But qualification was never quite achieved despite six full attempts, and his scandalous antics frequently landed the EOFF in hot water with other countries and international footballing authorities. Eventually he dramatically departed to take up the Eura job after their bewildering failure to qualify for World Cup 87, leaving chaos behind him but arguably a strong legacy too.

EOFF chiefs were caught off guard by Oslograd's impromptu departure, and were forced to opt for a 52 year old Wolcjeck Gruber as a replacement. Gruber was the most talented and well known player to come out of Austroslovakia, Eura's western neighbour, and enjoyed a successful Gold League career with Whitepill and Brigham. Its been thirteen years since his retirement as a player and in that time Gruber hasn't done much, other than managing in Euran non-league and taking up a head coach position at Oslograd Academy. Rumour has it the old boss put in a word for Gruber, who was then appointed by a unanimous vote of the EOFF board. He requested Expat and close friend Ian Osborne be appointed his assistant, another Oslograd Academy staff member and Euran-born Expat. Expectations are likely to be high for Gruber and Osborne; although the Expats don't have some of the experienced pre-formation veterans Oslograd had when he started, they have much more depth and a number of young prospects. Gruber has a tough act to follow and did not start well with a poor performance at the AOCAF. He will have a lot to prove in World Cup qualifiers, otherwise the EOFF may reconsider their choice.

Gatchingerrak Union of Rushmori nations, shortened as the Gatchingerrak Union, is a cultural and political alliance of four countries of the Quebecois Commonwealth located in mid-southern Rushmore (Norrskie Zasousti, Norrehavn, Gatchinovo and Novopetrograd). The three kingdoms and the citystate, while independent nations of own, do have the Gatchingerrak Union as a way to establish their common zone, where their main goals are to advance co-operation in military, cultural, economic and energy matters. It shares land border with Vaugania and Norrhem to the west, while bits of the east touch Phoenigetzusta. Combined population of the union are estimated to be around 81 million.

While its trio of nations have always fought with one another for centuries, Gatchingerrak Union is a culturally diverse nation with growing importance outside to that of the Quebecois Commonwealth. Its population is ethnically diverse, with the eastern, Novopetrogradian half of the realms primarily Slavic, while the Western half is divided to primarily Nordic Norrehavn on north and slavic Norrskie Zasousti on the south. Somewhere in middle of the lake, which faces all of the three nations, stands the island that is nowadays known as the citystate of Gatchinovo, the ancient place known for its significance on trades and diplomacy among the Rushmori realms of the Quebecois Commonwealth. It is where the Accord between the 4 states were signed in year 2030 (around the time of WC78), to promise co-prosperity among the rivalling states whose cooperation is needed more than ever. Its economy is a mix of natural resources and heavy manufacturing for it.

A no stranger to international sport, Gatchingerrak Union does have a past history of international football and hockey, where its western realms were represented as Norrehavn. It has hosted a Copa Rushmori and a World Cup of Hockey, and both sports are extremely popular. Unfortunately, the long years of absence from the international sporting circuit does mean that it is expected to be a long way back to relevance for the seven-stars.

This group of four people have really come together to make a positive impact on Chromatik footballing history. After the disaster of World Cup 85, Valens and Landers have led the Chromatiks to the World Cup Proper in consecutive campaigns, even getting the Chromatiks to the Round of Sixteen last time around, where they lost to eventual champions Nephara. Zoe "Z" Benne has been on the forefront of making sure that all the athletes are being taken care of, both physically and mentally, while the existence of Shelby Arling has taken the load of dealing with the press away from the other members of the staff. It is a unit that knows what each member is doing, which is why it works. Next step? Make it to the Round of Sixteen on a regular basis, and try to get to the Quarterfinals if at all possible.

Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GA Debut Cycle
01. Juxon Fillar 24 Cazadores Cathair Audioslavia 6 ft 1 in 21 18 AOCAF 62
12. Ferret Tioux 29 Oakstone Eura 6 ft 3 in 47 74 84
23. Jacob Descombes 27 Metropolis Alligators Valladares 6 ft 3 in 4 4 87
After the most recent AOCAF - the last AOCAF that Chromatika will ever partake in - there is no doubt that Juxon Fillar is the keeper of the future, having been an integral part of why the Anomalies were able to finish in second place in that tournament. Very good in set pieces and one-on-one scenarios, he has become better in transition as well. Ferret Tioux has great anticipation and reflexes, and his field vision has filled out quite a bit, leading to there being less breakaway chances allowed for opposing strikers to catch him flat-footed. He just hasn't been able to contend with the rising star of Juxon Fillar. As for the third choice at keeper, Jacob Descombes gets the nod because Mia Ria is done with international football, Marseille Alexander reportedly declined, and Kathie Begley isn't quite there yet. This is a good bunch to build upon.

Right Backs
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
02. Kai Xiao 29 Farrenton Athletic Eura 6 ft 2 in 64 1 84
13. Victoire De Saint-Pierre 27 Royal Rumiatzi Astograth 5 ft 11 in 20 0 86
Kai Xiao won the competition for starting right back a few tournaments ago and is not letting it go. He's big though not particularly tall, and just physically imposing. He doesn't mind using that body of his, and he just has this relentless motor and aggression to him. When he needs to be spelled, Victoire De Saint-Pierre is there - an energizer bunny who is a bright spark both on and off the pitch. Right backs continue to be the physical presence for Chromatik teams.

Center Backs
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
03. Henri de Aea 27 Holdenberg Eura 6 ft 7 in 101 3 80
04. Cierra Anderson 31 Vermillion Rage Nephara 5 ft 4 in 61 0 79
14. Giles Ken 28 Montreal Koreana Quebec 6 ft 3 in 45 1 84
15. Theodore Rondeau 30 Franscisca Orient Brenecia 5 ft 9 in 28 0 84
Henri de Aea has eclipsed a hundred caps, and shows no signs of slowing down. Remaining at large as an aerial defender and a sure tackler, there are even brighter days ahead for the central defender, who is only in the prime of his career. His partner is Cierra Anderson, who has very good crossing skills and is usually the one in charge of clearing dangerous balls. Giles Ken wins aerial battles and has great intangibles, while Theodore Rondeau is the enforcer. If the Anomalies need more hops, Ken can be put in, and if they need more size, Rondeau is there.

Left Backs
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
05. Valence Ilya 31 Northern Union Brenecia 6 ft 5 in 84 1 79
16. Nina Pomeroy 27 Oakstone Eura 6 ft 2 in 17 1 AOCAF 61
Valence Ilya is Mr. Consistent, possessing height, strength, and field vision. Nina Pomeroy is an apt tackler who can fill in on a pinch.

Right Wingers
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
06. Augustus Humphreys 27 Unattached Unattached 5 ft 11 in 17 4 AOCAF 61
17. Orianne Marc 26 AFC Serpentine Nephara 6 ft 4 in 40 7 85
A bit of a surprise, Augustus Humphreys needs to prove that it wasn't Hondo FC that made him into who he is. The well-rounder that listens well, he's become a quick winger. Orianne Marc is a scorer's best friend, and doesn't mind not getting the limelight. With the left winger and attacking midfielder doing a lot of the work now, his presence fits the squad well.

Defensive Midfielders
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
07. Enigma Armageddon 27 Energija Chernovets Siovanija and Teusland 6 ft 2 in 107 17 80 CAPTAIN
18. Kateryna Zuniga 26 Sabrefell Moths Nephara 6 ft 2 in 40 2 85
Leading the charge is the One-Eyed General, Enigma Armageddon, who is really thriving. He is the captain and the leader of the squad, and respected amongst all. Kateryna Zuniga is the annoying man-to-man defender that one can never shake. They work well in tandem, and she doesn't mind the fact that he is the leader.

Left Wingers
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
08. Vasiliy Marten Kuznetsov 24 Kitara AA Banija 6 ft 1 in 48 19 85
19. Andréa Croix-Pierre 29 Falourr Eura 6 ft 7 in 56 12 80
Vasiliy Kuznetsov almost has fifty caps at twenty-four years of age. Kuznetsov is a star in the making who can do it all - drop back and defend, counter, cross, and shoot from range. The sky is the limit for him. Andréa Croix-Pierre is an ambidextrous winger who can add creativity on a pinch.

Attacking Midfielders
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
09. Hermaeus Mora 29 Club Stein-los Pasarga 5 ft 10 in 94 15 79
20. Haley Hauser 24 Falourr Eura 6 ft 7 in 29 18 AOCAF 62
Hermaeus Mora is the unquestioned leader in the position, having accrued 94 caps in his career. He always plays on the edge of overcommiting, and those that don't know how to meet him simply fold under pressure. Haley Hauser is the shoot first, ask questions later attacking midfielder, scoring more than one goal every two appearances. She is the future, but Mora's presence and reliability cannot be undersold.

Strikers
Num Name Age Team Nation Height Caps GF Debut Cycle
10. Olimpia Vidal 30 Bastion Eura 5 ft 5 in 82 50 79
11. Alicia Gainsbourg 27 Molding Græntfjall 6 ft 4 in 21 14 AOCAF 62
21. Ignace Thibodeaux 27 FC Rotmunde 1932 Siovanija and Teusland 6 ft 8 in 23 9 AOCAF 61
22. Paskal Toussaint 24 Elephant Valley FC South Newlandia 5 ft 11 in 16 4 AOCAF 62
There is no Keira Andisori here, as the all-time leader in goals and caps has decided to call it quits. Vidal is more of a pure scorer who prefers to be at the point of the attack, while Alicia Gainsbourg has a good head and an even better left foot, having become a fine striker in Molding in Græntfjall. Ignace Thibodeaux initiates contact to score, and Paskal Toussaint prefers counterattacking. It's a decent group of strikers though the AM and LW positions will also do a fair bit of the scoring.

TEAM CASSADAIGUA- World Cup 88

Coach- Brittany Byers (50)- 1st World Cup
With Stephanie Sweeney now serving as the President of CASE, a new manager was needed for the Fillies for the first time since our return. Byers was the logical choice, since she had often been the backup national team manager, anyway. Has coached in the Copa Rushmori on multiple occasions, and was an assistant to Sweeney in World Cup 87. As a player, the ex-defender played in World Cups 78 and 79, and was the captain of those teams. Also led Brattleboro FC to the most recent national championship, but has stepped down from that position to focus on the national team.

Assistant- Matt Villareal (39)- Baker Park
Villareal was the captain of the Baker Park national team in World Cups 80 and 81, helping them qualify in their first ever attempt. The former midfielder has held various coaching jobs within Baker Park and is seen as an up and coming coaching prospect in that nation. He is serving as the assistant to Byers here as his home country wants him to get experience to see how things are done elsewhere.

Assistant- Hannah Shanley (40)
Starting defender from World Cups 80-83, and then served as a regular substitute in World Cup 84. Has served in this role since World Cup 85, and that includes while she was still active as a player for a little while.

Starters in Green
Subs in Blue
Reserves in Red

Goalkeepers:
#20- Danielle Cotter (29) (Grande Mountain)- Sub WC 87, Reserve WC 85 & 86, Starter DBC 47, CR 34, 36 & 37.
#30- Katie Schnapper (26) (1093 Club de Football Atlantea, Taeshan)- Sub CR 36 & 37, Starter DBC 48
#21- Tiffany Nelson (33) (Starksville United)- Starter WC 86 & 87, Sub WC 85, Reserve WC 83 & 84, Starter DBC 44 & CR 34 & 35

Danielle Cotter will get her first chance to be the starter of the World Cup team after paying her dues on the sideline for the last three World Cups. It could be a short window for her in this spot, with Schnapper also getting a lot of attention paid to her. Nelson being dropped to reserve status is the bigger story here, but everyone has been downplaying that so far.

Defenders:
#3- Brooke Sutter (33) (Brattleboro FC)- Starter & Captain DBC 44, Starter WC 84-87, SWC 6, DBC 43 & CR 34-36, Reserve CR 31, WC 82 & 83
#4- Katie Standish (29) (Concord Heights City)- Starter WC 85-87, Reserve DBC 44 & CR 34-36
#2- Michelle Graves (28) (Victoriaville City)- Starter WC 86 & 87, Sub WC 85, Starter CR 35 & 36, DBC 47 & Sub CR 34
#26- Caitlyn Kaleta (24) (Brattleboro FC)- Starter DBC 49 & CR 37

#24- Sierra Swift (27) (Grande Mountain)- Starter CR 37, Sub WC 85-87, CR 35 & 36, Starter DBC 47
#28- Summer Speers (27) (Felswyr, Chromatika)- Starter CR37, Reserve DBC 47, CR 35 & 36, WC 86 & 87

#6- Kimberly Carson (33) (Concord Heights City)- Starter WC 84-87, DBC 43, CR 34-36
#24- Sarah Bayne (23) (Brattleboro Westside)- Starter DBC 49, CR 37

The starting defensive corps is mostly kept in tact, with each of Sutter, Standish, and Graves returning. Sutter is the most physical of the group, but the team still has never truly replaced the aggressive physicality of Lupe Enrqiuez. Standish and Graves are the type of defender that will make the safe play more often than not. Kaleta is an interesting prospect getting her first taste of the World Cup roster, but great play in the Copa Rushmori ascended her to this spot. Carson is the lone starter that is dropped on the depth chart, since she has lost a step.

Midfielders:
#9- Morgan Rosenblatt (24) (AFC Treson, Nephara)- Starter WC 87. DBC 48 & 49, CR 36 & 37
#16- Meghan Wolcott (31) (Herzegovina City FC, Banija)- Starter WC 84-87, CR 34-37, DBC 44
#19- Preston Newfeld (31) (New Lakeland Soccer Club)- Sub WC 84-87, Starter CR 34, 36 & 37, DBC 44
#8- Courtney Graham (29) (Brattleboro FC)- Starter WC 86 & 87, Reserve WC 84 & 85, Starter CR 34, 36 & 37

#34- Danielle Porter (28) (Concord Heights City)- Sub WC 86 & 87, Reserve WC 84 & 85, Sub CR 34-37
#25- Allison Rice (23) (Hannah, Taeshan)- Sub WC 87 & CR 37, Starter DBC 49

#37- Sarah Giles (27) (Brattleboro Westside)- Reserve WC 86 & 87; Starter DBC 47, Sub CR 36, Reserve CR 35
#36- Tara Kriedel (24) (Shearwater, Kelssek)- Starter DBC 49

There is little reason to change what many people in Cassadaigua think is the strength of the roster. Morgan Rosenblatt continues to be a dominant player, and successfully made the transition to AFC Treason in Nephara. Meghan Wolcott is still playing at a very high level, and these two are just as capable of scoring goals as anyone who plays up front. Newfeld is the strength of the group, and Courtney Graham can be a sneaky player if you forget her. Behind them, only Kriedel is a newcomer to the team.

Forwards:
#71- Rachel Schanke (31)- (Granddaughter of Jessica, who #17 is retired for. Hence the #71)- Starter WC 84-87, & DBC 44, SWC 6, Sub DBC 43 & WC 82, 83, Reserve WC 81, CR 30, 34 (Captain of CR 34) *** TEAM CAPTAIN***
#12- Jenna Frontiera (23) (Brattleboro FC)- Sub DBC 49, Reserve CR 37

#27- Madison McClain (29) (Jinja City, Banija)- Starter WC 86 & 87, Sub WC 84 & 85, Starter CR 34, 35 & 37
#29- Loreen Hazen (26) (Rutland FC)- Sub WC 86 & 87, CR 37, Reserve WC 85; Sub DBC 47, CR 35

#39- Bayley Stanton (24) (Concord Heights City)- Reserve CR 36 & 37, Starter DBC 47
#23- Taylor Russo (27) (Starksville United)- Reserve WC 84 & 86, Sub WC 87, CR 34, 35 & 37

It’s another year for Rachel Schanke to be the leader of this offense, and some people wonder if this will be her last World Cup. Common convention with Cassadagan rosters would suggest that she would probably be back for World Cup 89, but don’t be so sure of that, since she started at a younger age. Jenna Frontiera is a player who has gradually been brought forward and is now ready to show why she is seen as our “next one”. McClain loses her starting spot because of it, but she will likely appear in games often, anyway.
