RP/Results thread

Season 4 of the World Grand Prix Tier Two is currently in the
INITIAL SIGNUP PHASE
NEGOTIATION PERIOD and DRIVER SIGNUP PHASE
REGULAR SEASON

To see how the negotiation period usually works, read below and/or have a look at the WGPC RP thread.

If you have been awarded a team, you begin with no drivers signed and must RP to reach agreements with the free-agent drivers. You should sign no more than two drivers for your team.

Once you have signed a driver or team up, begin writing about them in this thread. The more interesting the story you create, the more chance your driver has of catching the eye of one of the WGPC teams, or vice-versa. There are no rankings. Success is built on good roleplaying by team-owners, drivers and team-mates as well as a big slice of luck, with your driver’s parameters coming into play too.

You may RP however you like. Maybe you'd prefer to tell the world that a couple of teams are interested in your driver via some rumour-mongering in your local newspapers? Perhaps you'd like to set up an interview with a team? Maybe your driver has a big social media presence or can’t keep out of the news for all the wrong reasons? A popular tactic in recent years has been for teams to hold an open-invitation trial for a number of drivers to test their car around a local circuit, with the best driver/drivers being chosen for the team, so look out for those as well. There is no 'right' way to do it, and the only 'wrong' way to do it would be to attempt to confirm your driver is racing with a team before any real negotiations, OOC, IC or otherwise, have taken place.

You may also wish to consider the massive difference in pay between an experienced driver with a good reputation and a newcomer. In RL Formula 1, the best drivers are paid handsomely to drive while the newcomers often have to pay a team in order to secure a drive. Does your driver need to secure sponsorship in order to pay his way into a deal? Or is he a skilled driver with years of experience, upon whom a team can rely to draw money to the team through external sponsorship and win bonuses?

When you wish to confirm that a driver has joined a team, or formally offer a spot in your team to a driver, do so in bold, like this or this or this or simply like this. Both driver and team must confirm a signing for it to become valid.

Finally, as this is the RP thread, there should be no out-of-character chatter here. Take your observations, commentary and complaints to the OOC discussion thread.

Confirmed teams
If your team is on this list, you may begin RPing your search for your drivers. Please avoid, where possible, signing two drivers both controlled by you.

The spec suppliers for this season have been confirmed as Preston Autos for engines and Deyoze Tyres for tyres. Teams below are listed with the engines/tyres they will use for the season. If you signed up a team not using spec engines/tyres, they may still have been assigned the spec.

Fourteen teams have made the final cut, based on current signup numbers. This was not an easy decision and if you missed out on a team, don't be disheartened. Strong RP with your drivers may lead to a WGPC (top-tier) team invitation. Additionally, teams not accepted will remain on standby to replace non-active (low-RP) teams at any point in the season.

Rules and regulations
Size and shape
WGPC cars must be similar in size and shape to RL formula one cars. The definition of 'formula one car' is a vehicle that competed in RL Formula One any time after 1970.
Maximum length of a car is 5.3m
Maximum width of a car is 2.3m
Maximum height of a car is 1.2m (not including on-board camera)
Minimum weight is a car is 600kg

Power
Inorganic
Electric engines are permitted.
Nuclear-powered engines are not permitted unless it can be proven (in safe conditions) that a catastrophic crash would not result in the circuit being unusable for the next four hundred thousand years.

Air may be used to aspirate engines, but the WGPC reserves the right to ban cars that attempt to use sails to take advantage of windy circuits.

Organic
Power may be provided by animals, but only if they satisfy at least one of the following conditions:
They have been extinct for millions of years and have been turned into oil by natural processes.
The animal may not currently be on the WWF's list of endangered species.
The animal must not be harmed or stressed by the ordeal.
The animal must be on the inside of the car.

Safety
There must be at least 30 centimetres between the driver's feet and the front of the car.

The design of the car must ensure that, if it were to be put upside-down, the driver's head would not touch the floor. The inclusion of an air intake behind and above the driver, coupled with a strong fin on the bonnet of the car in front of the driver, should be enough to accomplish this. The driver's head must not be the tallest thing in the car (not including wings).

All cars must include a seat-belt. The seat-belt must be able to be easily removed by a driver within two seconds.

All cars must include a removable steering wheel. The driver should be able to remove it manually within two seconds.

Cars may include a "halo"-type safety device.

No part of the car may be wider than the wheelbase.

There must be no sharp objects on the outside of the car. Wings should be at least one centimetre thick.

SEASON LENGTH: No more than 10 championship race events, up to six test events including non-championship races. Each championship race event will feature one practice session, one qualifying session, one sprint race and one feature race. The intention is for practice and qualifying to always take place on Fridays, races on Saturdays and Sundays. The feature race will take place on Saturdays and the sprint on Sundays with all drivers involved.

QUALIFYING: Only traditional and one-shot qualifying will be offered. The 107% qualifying rule will be in use, with exemptions in case of bad weather. If there are more than 28 drivers, places for the two sprint races will be decided by odd and even qualifying positions. No points for pole position(s).

Starting positions for the sprint race will be determined by the finishing order of the feature race, with the top 14 positions reversed.

RACE WEEKEND: At each race "weekend", there will be a practice session, a qualifying session, and at least two race sessions.

Each sprint race will be run to 160 km, and each feature race will be run to 240 km, both rounded up to the fullest complete lap.

CLASSIFICATION: Each driver must have completed 90% of the race winner's completed distance, rounded up to the fullest complete lap, to be classified as a race finisher and to earn points.

POINTS SYSTEM: Feature races will award points for the top 8: 25-18-14-11-8-5-3-1; the sprint race will award points for the top 12: 15-13-11-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. One point for the fastest lap in each race. The idea of awarding more drivers points in the sprint race is to allow lower-ranked drivers the chance to score points.

CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS: Two official championships will be maintained, the WGP2 Drivers Championship and WGP2 Team Championship.

MISC: Pole position will be on the inside lane of the track. Intentional attempts to crash into other cars will result in a penalty for the driver. Team instructions to intentionally cause accidents will result in a penalty for the team.

PIT STOPS: No refuelling during races. Cars will start each race with the fuel needed to complete the race. Changes to the car are permitted during races. Dangerous pit stop releases will be investigated and may result in a penalty for the driver and/or team.

ROLEPLAYING: Roleplays will be capped at 1,250 words or a fair equivalent if audio- or graphic-based. The limit will apply twice each race weekend: max 1,250 words between Sunday race and practice/quali; max 1,250 words between practice/quali and Sunday race, including the Saturday race. RP bonus will be deprecating over time.

For pre-season, before the first cut-off, the 1,250-word limit will apply per RP.

* Due to the nature of the sport, there are no RP permissions in WGPC. You should expect your drivers and/or teams to be mentioned by other players. You may even expect other users to mention things your driver has said.
* In contrast to, say, war RPing, where a user decides which/how many losses to take after an attack, in WGPC a user decides how much blame or responsibility to take after an accident. You may RP that your driver caused an accident through their own poor or overly aggressive driving, but you may not write that another user's driver was at fault for an accident unless you have their permission. In general, making another character look stupid is not usually acceptable. If a driver is in their first season, it's probably acceptable to call them a rookie, or inexperienced, or possibly even naive if you're sufficiently careful, but refrain from calling another driver reckless or stupid or unskilled unless it's clear from the other user's RPs that this is the case.
* If you're going to RP a conversation between your driver and another driver, try to keep to the other driver's established characteristics.
* If another user mentions an action of your driver, or mentions something that happened to your driver, before you have the chance to RP, you may either reinterpret their interpretation of events or, if you really feel you wanted the story to go in a different direction, you may change the events that happened. For example, you had your heart set on RPing your driver as having had a particularly violent and explosive accident, but another user decides that your driver retired in the pits due to engine failure, you may write your own version and ask that the previous RPer makes the appropriate change to their RP.
* Any disputes over RPing will be adjudicated by the season host, whose decision is final.

Previous seasons of Lisanderian Challengers in WGP2: Team Ignis (I) | Superia Juniors (II) | Bitten Heroes Academy (III)

Image
Bitten Heroes Academy returns for its third year in WGP2, once more under new management. Since the last time we had a WGP2 race, a lot of things happened in Lisander Motorsport. Juliano Lemos finally decided to quit driving Formulae to dedicate himself to his pregnant wife, Ludwika Wiel, leaving his charter, with the contracts and everything else, to his father-in-law, Marc, a former GT/Formula driver. Lourdina Westgrens, another driver who endured a lot of suffering, also abandoned formulae and is currently managing a channel on WhoTube. New names appeared. Kimi Nasunen, a multi-venture businessman joined the pack of the Lisander Autosport Team Owners, brought his innovative ideas and his metallurgic firm is providing a lot of parts. Carolina Lasseps keeps as head engineer, now under her new contractor, Harlean Motors, that replaced Camden since last WGPC.

Stellenbosch keeps as the tyre supplier, but this time attending the specificities from WGPO, that asked for a tyre with a little more traction than originally desired by the team. Atlas returns as a partner for solutions on gearbox and brakes and AvexRacing replaces Camden in the electric sector of the car, including the EBGP Thermal Mail, which is back to the livery. The new colours, Dark Ultramarine and Vivid Carmine, are provided by LEINAS, a fast-growing brand of luxury watches, pens, cutlery, accessories and fine leather goods.

For the first seat, the lisanderian Athan Lille was selected, returning to the cockpit for the first time since his season in Hodori's Formula Endurance. For the second seat, the Kraininian driverElise Shaw was the first driver, but after a series of bad results, she was replaced by MW Racing Lab driver, the 16-year-old Lianna Rasianoara.

Saber Ironworks, by Kimi Nasunen, also developed some parts of the car, as the lightweight 18' magnesium rims, and its engineers helped to develop the updates of the chassis and the bodywork. Pictured on the image above, Lianna Rasianoara livery.

"So, how does it feel after tricking the people to make them bow to your interests, Lanza? That's awful. You choose a date when none of your opponents, myself included, could participate in a meeting and approved the contract with your company. Any judge of the country would consider this as influence peddling, and if LAB still had government support, I could send you to jail, you bastard." - Andrew Holden was attending that meeting via video-call.

"I can understand you're pissed, Holden. I take the grudge. I'm okay with you and all of your supporters not liking me, but let me clarify some things. Motorsport Lisander is a listed company. I sent you the briefing, but you decided to ignore it. Also, I'm not diverting any fund from LAB accounts for that company. LAB itself will meet to vote and approve any new decision relative to new championships. Also, I'm not the only shareholder of Motorsport Lisander. The list of shareholders includes, at this exact moment. Seigen Mikado, Kimi Nasunen, Marc Wiel, myself and the Harmin Group, in the person of His Highness, the Prince of Lisander. If the noblest person of His Highness thinks the idea is at least a little worthy, I believe it's worthy to try. Last but not least, and allow me to repeat myself. I sent you the briefing. There's still room for you. Your shares are reserved, but as I said, you need to get into the plan instead of boycotting it." - Andrea Lanza , with the patience of a bronze lion statue, answered.

"Go to hell. Castellammare, as the notary of this meeting, please record in the minutes that, even if defeated, my vote on behalf of AHR Motorsport is a NO ." - Holden ended the call, leaving a black square on the screen where his face appeared.

"Nothing left to say about that. I trust all of you members of the board have read the summary of Motorsport Lisander. I'm also happy to inform you that Lisander Motorcycling Federation signed with Motosport Lisander to organize their events too. I believe most of you don't have any prejudice against them. The schism between car racing and motorcycle racing is so long in the past now, there's no reason to worry, I think."

Nearly 70% of the members of the Lisander Autosports Board were there, so there was therefore sufficient quorum to approve that action. Motorsport Lisander, a company formed by some members of the board, was asking for the rights to organize the championships in all categories, with the approval of the LAB.

"So, I'd like to open that to vote. As the customary method, those to vote against the proposal, please raise the hand. We'll hear every concern and try again. After the second time, with a simple majority reached, even with raised hands, it will be approved. Please express yourselves."

No hands raised.

"This is an approval. As stated in the briefing, Motorsport Lisander must bring a plan for the competitions of the season in the January extra meeting, as approved in the last December meeting. An interesting solution for the WGP3 age-grade mismatch is also vital, as it was also discussed in the last December meeting. For the next, we'll open the discussion regarding WGP2. Wiel, please."

The first to speak was Marc Wiel . Owner of KB Motorworks, after the early retirement of his daughter, Ludwika (in a paradoxical concept like those of mobile phones, that parents inherit from its children), he was leading the development of KS-04 after buying X-PRO, a company that was held by lots of people before, that was responsible by developing Lisander single-seaters for joining international championships.

"Regarding the car development, the KS-04 was developed with the regulations of the next season of WGP2 in mind. It's the second season of the cycle, but the poor results of the KS-03 led us to rethink the car's development concept. We have since then outsourced the process, under the responsibility of Carolina Lasseps, Brian Hagenauer and Harlean Motors, who are developing the KS-04 in order to have not only a car that can be used by the local team but also offered to other teams to be customers. It's a process that generated income for the LAB, because Lisander Autosports Board had bought Bitten Heroes from Juliano Lemos, then transferred the projects to X-PRO. Then X-PRO was sold back to Lemos-Wiel household, to his father-in-law, that is to say, me, but now in partnership with Harlean. Expertise and structure combined with strong investment and massive production capacity. Judging by my aggressive instance in racing, the better choice is having this massive production of cars." - He smirked, and then returned to talk - "The process of driver applications is to start, and I plan going full national, at much Imperan. The lack of results coming from our drivers is a problem. I mean, doesn't mind the results, but we need the good results coming from our nationals. Do you remember the TAS Alliance last season, best results came from the Teusland driver, but it's not like Anneliese Devereux is bad. Ok, honestly she isn't the best in the generation, but she got a solid background with Harlean."

That was a well-crafted lie. Sissie wasn't that talented to start, but she was a beautiful woman with fairly decent skills, so Harlean signed her as a driver. She was winning by effort. Taking advantage of the backing by Harlean and everyone else, she was expected to make her career at least as a midtable driver.

"We need to enforce this kind of development, so we want to have only local drivers for at least the immediate future. For the next two or three seasons of WGP2, the team is searching for a younger prospect and a more experienced driver. The last one is probably who will take the first seat, while the other will focus on gaining experience for the future. For this season, we plan to pair Athan Lille as the newbie with another one. Maybe a pay-driver. Sissie will be around as a Test Driver, but focusing on her next season with Bitten Heroes. We'll only have her in the championship if the other driver gets injured. We are still considering to select a driver for another Imperan nation if they bring a nice paycheck. Anyways, we already secured Leinas Timepieces as a sponsor, and we're going with their colours."

"Ah, those guys from "Be the best everyday". They have some products that are really exquisite. They offered me some real money to project a carbon and wool valet tray with a mePhone charging system included. Apart from that idea that was obviously silly, they have a lot of nice ideas, and sponsoring motorsport is a nice one. Anyways, are you going with blue instead of purple?" - Kimi Nasunen reminded the fact the Leinas owners had contacted him before to develop a nice home appliance that was theoretically impossible to develop.

"Yes. We thought about that, to remember why were we using purple for the first time, in WGPC 15. It was because of Remington Pharmaceuticals, and you remember how that contract came to an end. I thought we shouldn't be keeping that. The original shade would have been kind of bluish, then choosing to pair with Leinas colours wasn't that difficult." - Wiel said, and his expression was kind of relieved. Seems like he disliked the previous livery too.

I hope you consider me for a seat this season.
Driver Resume

GP Sword Island: 18 starts, 6 DNF's( 5 mechanical failures, 1 tire blowout), 4 wins
24 Hours of Perth: 3 attempts, average finishing position of 6.4
Sword Island National Stock Car Series(SINSCS): 27 starts, 1 win, 7 DNF's( 4 mechanical failures, 3 wrecks)

I would like to point out that the frequent DNF's on my resume are due to me trying to get the most out of my equipment and overworking it. Hopefully, you will take this into account. If you do consider me for a test I will be honored.

Post 1 – New Season, Familiar Faces

Image

With the official invitation in her hands, Adriana once again set off for WGP2, which is currently on its fourth season. Bidding the Valentians farewell for the time being, as well as giving Holly some reassurance and a congratulations over her recent 10th place finish, Adriana set off with Angeline and Angela once again, on their interdimensional place.

"Well, quite a lot of teams, some familiar ones too," Adriana said as the three of them sat in the plane's lounge while it was set on auto-pilot, "Quite a shame the US Navy didn't make it in. You know, the one from WGP2 Season 3?"

"Oh yes, I have heard of them before!" Angeline exclaimed, looking at the old pamphlets on the plane's bookshelf, "I wonder why. Ah well, so... I know this is too early to ask, but any team in particular?"

"I am thinking about Fireline once again, but..." Adriana trailed off, looking around and fiddling with her laptop before coming clean, "Not very sure about them. Oh, it's not because of them, I want to say that. As in, the team is fine, but will they want me again? You know what happened in WGPC."

"Yeah, that is true. But then again, that was WGPC, this is WGP2. Maybe things will be easier for you here?"

Angela added in along the way, "Plus, you went for that Nexus Academy thing. You have definitely learned and improved a little, I am sure of it! I think you should give them a try again."

"I agree. We have your support no matter the team, Adriana!"

"Haha, thanks, guys. Yeah, let me give them a try. As for the other teams, I will still need to take a look at them. I am not sure if they would want someone like me on their team. But you know, like you guys said, give it a try, yeah."

Angela was right. She went through Nexus Academy, this should be becoming easier for her. Maybe Fireline might have other drivers in their mind, but unless she give it a try, she will never know who wants her. With her mind set, she sent an email to the relevant teams that she found interesting. First: Fireline, then Nexus Racing, then Pryfors Bilar-Viska/Air Kalactin, then Equipo Telebuenas-BA, then VSK-Maarukanna Racing. "Five of them should be more than enough," she remarked, "It feels a little bit like a job hunt, but you don't want to overdo it and send to every team. You will just sound desperate, haha!"

Good day to you!

I am Adriana, from Valentine Z! Please do allow me to introduce myself - a humanoid android with the typical abilities to drive a car, along with a few special abilities here and there, I have participated in WGP2's season 3, followed by WGPC. I will have to be honest that I did not exactly make that much of a great impression on the previous seasons, but with the recent developments and practice among myself, as well as attending Nexus Academy, I would like to think that I have improved myself to have the right mindset for this season of WGP2. I hereby would like to cite my interest to drive for your team, for it will be such a great honor, and that I hope that you will be able to give me the opportunity to prove myself this season. I am also extremely flexible with scheduling and can start right away with practices and demonstrations.

Thank you very much, and Życzę miłego dnia! (I wish you a great day!)

- Zastępca Strażnika Adriana Krystal Desiree “Cudowny Manipulacja Światłem” Venus Kowalski Faith Stanisława Engelse I. Cherise Krystyna Zaborowska Sztormowska Pamela Alina Re. T. Lillian

Fireline was the main recipient, with the other 4 being on BCC, Adriana figuring that they might not need to know who she sent the email to. After she was done with that, she started checking on the simulator cabinet that she brought with her on the plane. Already being set up permanently, she flicked the switch on, with the simulator coming to life and its cooling fans and water pipes whirring and flowing. The latest computers that the Valentians can offer, the simulator can run up to 32 simulations of the race at once, with Adriana being able to handle all the 32 simulations in parallel. The steering wheel fixed and smoothened to her specifications, the hydraulic systems springing back to life, and the chair comfortable, Adriana closed the lid of her laptop as she climbed aboard the simulator, testing it for the first time. It feels natural for her, even if she has not been using it for a while. Angela and Angeline headed back into the cockpit, turning off the auto-pilot and routing accordingly to their destination.

"We are heading back to Valentine Z first with a cruising speed," Angela announced again as a reminder for Adriana, "The race schedule is not out yet, so I am not sure if it will be nice for us to stay in another foreign country for so long."

With the World Grand Prix Organization opting to award the spec tire contract for the upcoming World Grand Prix 2 Championship season to the Deyoze Tire company, Tropicorp Engineering have made the decision not to enter the 4th World Grand Prix 2 Season. It will be the first season of World Grand Prix 2 competition that did not feature the Tropicorp Team which has typically used the second tier series as a test bed for engineering changes as well as driver development. After three seasons of competition on the World Grand Prix 2 circuit, however, Tropicorp's primary open wheel development driver Cocoabo #23 graduated to the World Grand Prix Championships top tier during the most recent season and the Cocoabo proved they could compete at the top level with a number of points finishes for a Fireline Tropicorp team that otherwise struggled to score in the points.

While Tropicorp Engineering will not be entering as a standalone entry, there were rumors that the Vilisorma Beverage Company were looking to purchase assets from the team to field a World Grand Prix 2 entry under the Vilaye EnergySport banner. Vilaye Energy have leased equipment and raced under the Vilaye EnergySport brand on multiple occasions over the previous season including at a pair of special events in the Sherpa Empire. Ultimate Tropicorp Engineering were not willing to lease out their World Grand Prix 2 program to the Vilisorma based company but Vilaye Energy Drink are still interested in partnering with a team to field cars for one of the Energy Drink brands contracted drivers including the experienced journeyman and World Grand Prix 2 veteran Jama'obo Pegasii, the up and coming stock car driver Skiia Vialiv who has shown an interest in making a name for herself on the open wheel circuit. It is believed that the Vilaye Energy Drink brand are interested in significant investment into a team with a view to also including the Vilaye EnergySport moniker in the team name or color scheme. It is perhaps the first sign of a shift in marketing strategies for the Vilitan Cove regions largest beverage supplier that has previously focused on more traditional sponsorship agreements including those with R.L. Cruisin on the World Grand Prix Circuit and former champion River 'Shark' Suzgar II in the NSSCRA.

With Cocoabo #23 focused on their budding career as a World Grand Prix Championship driver it is expected that WGP2 Season 4 will be the first season without a full time Cocoabo competitor. The only top tier ready Cocoabo trainee is Cocoabo #37 who currently competes on the NSSCRA's Tier 2 Everlong Series circuit for Team Tropicorp. However Dart Group drivers Kizara Mo'aaki and Rulita Kukaba could also be available for trials with interested WGP2 entries.

Vilaye Energy Drink, supposedly made from natural extracts and minimal artificial processing - but always reluctant to reveal the true ingredients - has long been a supporter of Vilitan sporting ventures. Vilaye stepped up their involvement in Vilitan sport after the restart of the Vilitan league by taking a place as sponsors of the seasonal Tropical Trophy matchup as well as kit sponsorships. Vilaye funded much of the development work for the stand up of the Vilita & Turori Motorsports team prior to WGPC 11 and has been a personal services sponsor for Vilitan drivers R.L. Cruisin and Jama'obo Pegasii throughout their racing careers.[b]

"Congratulations! The prospective entry put forward by Grand Prix Sport Chanceux has been accepted onto the WGP2 grid!"

The engineers at the Centre D'espoir le Automobile could breathe a sigh of relief. Ever since their entry went to the WGPO, the guys and girls working on the car for the Grand Prix Lucky Sport team, known in the national language of the Sommet as Grand Prix Sport Chanceux, not even knowing if their entry was to be accepted onto the second step of motorsports. With the letter coming back to the CDA, it meant that all the work on a suitable WGP2 car was not for nothing. The team cleared the biggest hurdle in getting onto the grid, and now they were among 14 teams at the second rung of the World Grand Prix ladder. But as all journeys started off, one thing was clear within the facility - It was a long road ahead.

A pink car on the grid, one that according to drawings from CDA designers, had a big pink background with white stripes towards the back of the car and a nose that was mainly white with red polka-dots, was just the first thing they needed. A successful motorsports operation needed much more than a car, an engine (This time being a Preston Skychief V6) and tires (Provided by Deyoze). This wasn't a championship for just one nation, it was meant for a wide, wide variety of nations and as such traveled to new land after new land every week or 2, with no chances to rest apart from the race weekend on the logistics side. Not to mention the cost of getting the engines and tires, the wages that had to be paid and the logistical nightmare of... Logistics. Oh, and also 2 drivers. Sure they had government backing, but if they wanted to compete against the best, they had to get enough money to compete. Government backing was only going to go so far.

There were 39 drivers who applied to get at least some consideration into WGP2. And with countryman Luc Deschamps being a bit... Despairful, shall we say, there were really 38 drivers that GPSC were caring about. And only 2 spots to fill. Sure, some drivers were probably not looking forward to driving for a team literally known as Lucky Sport that hadn't fielded a car at this level before, but there were still a big crop of drivers that the team wanted to sign. It was just too many to just pick and choose 2 from. As a wise man once said, "Fools rush in". There were going to be a bunch of fools applying, but out of those they had to separate the cream of the crop from everyone else.

...When a notification went in. Sword Islander David Clarke, with 4 wins in his national grand prix series and a win in stock cars, wanted to be considered for a seat. Just what they needed to start their plans for who will get the 2 driver spots as a team like GPSC. With no available grand prix tracks in the area, they would have to get a bit creative...

Title: GPSC Trials

Dear fellow driver,

We here at the Grand Prix Sport Chanceux WGP2 team have personally invited you to partake in a competition to decide our 2 seats for the World Grand Prix 2 season! Since there is a lack of suitable racing tracks (Or a working car for that matter) yet, all drivers that travel to the Sommet de Lespoir will partake in a virtual World Grand Prix Championship style weekend using the racing simulator used by the Centre D'espoir le Automobile for testing of the team's car. The top 2 drivers will get their wish, a seat with the Grand Prix Sport Chanceux team and a chance to take home victories in WGP2!

The cars used in the simulator will be the same as the car being entered by GPSC for the WGP2 season so we can get a grip of how the car operates in qualifying and race conditions. The track that will be used for the simulator will be picked from the tracks on the WGP2 schedule and will be revealed once arriving in the Sommet de Lespoir.

However, with the logistics and money that's involved in an operation like this, financial support will be needed. We will not be cutting any promising drivers out of their seat in favor of a pay driver willing to finance the team for the year, but disclosing your financial backing will be used to see how much money you may bring to the team. Again, if you do finish in the top 2, you will still have your seat.

If anybody wants to take on the offer, please send us a message back! We do prefer it if there's 20 drivers wanting to take us on the offer, but at minimum we would like 10 drivers to compete for the chance to join the Grand Prix Sport Chanceux WGP2 team. 28 drivers is our maximum, and by any chance we overshoot that, there will be cuts that have to be made. Nevertheless, we hope to see you at the Centre D'espoir le Automobile!

Aldauren,

I've got news for you...

I hope you find some time in your day to read everything I've sent. It's long and it's serious. It concerns the future of our potential race team and maybe the company's motorsports destiny.

Ideally, I wish for your return to Pryfors Bilar. I have a lot of confidence in your ability to run the team.

As you know, I've been working on a few things over the last few months. These include bringing a little more focus to training staff and people who would determine device selection tools. I also spoke with some of the Viska people if we could come to an agreement that what we'll create would become their junior team in the WGP2. If we can't, we can always learn through trial and error.

With that said, I wanted to reach out to you again in the hope that you'd work with us. If you so desire, we can hold a meeting at my house and discuss the particulars.

More information regarding our team preparations are enclosed in the accompanying documents.

Sincerely,

A day after the race

Jöna is in his office, scrolling through news feeds and reading emails, like his usual Mondays there. Then his phone rings, it's from Kiiro. He quickly picks it up and answers. "Ah, hei Kiiro."

"Jöna, good news! Talks with Pryfors Bilar continued. Hoping to get everything done by the final race so we can prepare. The sponsorships are left and I'll try to get one of our drivers contracted to them."

"Let me guess, Haukanna?"

"Yep! She wanted to go international after leaving Schkeska. Good thing she signed with us."

...

Team Principal Aldauren Ginintella triumphantly raised one of his arms after reading the news he was hoping for.

Diarcesia's Pryfors Bilar-Viska/Air Kalactin granted WGPO license to compete in sanctioned international events.

Things continue to be on the rise in his organization. Oh, he missed actually driving and is a little bummed out that he didn't get the chance to be in WGPC unlike his latest rival, Sara Luna. But, the constant stream of activity and problems to fix in the Diarcesian WGP3 team he was principal of kept his mind busy on higher priority items. His people's efforts were rewarded with a top five constructors' finish in their debut season. That's not something to laugh at, and their automaker competitor Executive is probably eyeing this team warily come next season.

Aldauren will not be around to witness this, now that he would be overseeing PB's WGP2 team. He broke the news to his boss and team owner, PB CEO Siv Ingesson. She had no doubts this would happen: she has complete confidence in Aldauren's capability to keep the team focused on a singular goal. Now that they're a go for the next tier, a new set of tasks lay before him. The car, the drivers, the tires, etc.

Auruna's Viska has a lot of experience in this field and agreed to lend this to PB as their junior team—and a roundabout way to show one of their rivals VSK who is the better team. The Diarcesian tiremaker Phoenician Tires received a huge boost to their reputation with their product's use and exposure in WGP2 III, and they will make a return as PB-Viska's official tire supplier. Lastly, the team's ample financial resources was further supplemented by an additional deal that made Northwest Kalactin's Air Kalactin its title sponsor.

Now, the drivers...

Half of it is already fulfilled. PB and Viska contractually agreed to offer the number one driver spot to Laura Haukanna. Aldauren only has to worry about who her partner should be. He would not lie to tell his associates that this is an agonizing decision to make. There is a lot of promising talent who deserves a path to WGPC. It took about a week, but after studying their overall performances, he sent his first batch of private test invites to Chiruno Hakusoe, Lukas Fichter, Wayne Kerr, and Romain Constantine. This is no guarantee that they will earn the vacant seat. They have to prove not only they have what it takes to handle a WGP2 car, but they also need to show rapport and compatibility with the rest of the team.

In addition to this, a public notice is made for all interested drivers who want to drive for PB-Viska.

Sakinomi Rikikida took her seat in the cold concrete confines of this secure Himitsu no Shakai bunker. Part of her was restless, knowing the opportunity she was being given. Part of her was bitter, knowing that the incompetence of these authorities had cost her a chance at pursuing her passion. Why they’d called her all the way out here she had no clue- but when the Himitsu no Shakai gave an order, only a suicidal traitor disobeyed. And frustrating as it had been to be cast aside and and left in the dark, she was still no traitor to her country.

“Saki,” came Reiyomi Enata’s unhelpful and cheery words, “don’t frown so much. They’ve given you another chance, haven’t they? You’ll take the whole world by storm again. I know you will.”

“Sure you do,” Rikikida muttered under her breath. “Sure I will...” Of course she’d been stuck with this useless watchdog again, with all the controversy about tengokutankyu treachery in the Nogyo outskirts. Reiyomi always knew just the right amount of happiness in her tone to make Rikikida feel miserable. It was a delicate balance- sounding too happy was just annoying, sound too sad was almost inspiring- but Reiyomi was an expert, and Rikikida refused to believe she was doing it by accident. But before she could press the matter further-

Another pair took their seat opposite. One of them was a short girl with purple hair, tied together with what looked like enough ribbons to mummify the average Chudokuren. The other carted an enormous scar across her cheek, cutting right through a patch-covered eye- forearms dotted in shūkei marks. Rikikida counted twelve at least. That many kills? But the woman was gaunt, as though she was halfway to starving to death. What the hell was up with her, and what in order’s name were these two doing here? Before she could ask, the door opened again, this time letting in a man in full Himitsu no Shakai uniform, sleeves emblazoned with the crossed-scythes insignia.

“Sakinomi Rikikida. Reiyomi Enata.” He nodded in their direction, then turned to the veteran-and-idol duo. “Hoshikari Yume. Kohaneko Azurano. Each of you are here to represent the racing interests of Kyoki Chudoku. Two drivers, and two representatives. That is correct?”

Rikikida glanced at the fellow veteran- was that woman just as fed up with her minder- sorry, ‘Public Relations Officer’- as she was?

“That’s right!” said the purple-haired animated cosplay reject. “I can’t wait to get back in the driver’s seat all across the world! If they’re scared of our soldiers, imagine how scared they’ll be of our racing!”

...she was a...driver?

“As long as there’s not a civil war I get blamed for, I’m in,” came Rikikida’s spiteful response. She hadn’t meant to be so hostile, but...there was still a grudge. They couldn’t just take all that away from her and expect her to be purely grateful for the loss. Luckily for her, the officer only gave a wry little chuckle at her almost-treasonous remark.

“Indeed. Rest assured that such incidents will not occur again. The Kyoki Chudoku no Himitsu no Shakai has taken it upon itself to make the most of your talents. You will pursue your passions, and in return, you will serve as our eyes and ears. Report any supernatural activity you encounter, report any useful information about foreign culture, technology...even the dispositions of your competitors. In return, we ensure our support for your endeavours- and will provide for your communications. For sponsorships, and whatever false allegiances you must adopt to participate. But we will be vigilant. You already know that we are always watching. Do not forget your loyalties.”

“Of course not!” shouted the upstart. Did she really think copying the Overlady’s hair colour was going to do her any favours? She hadn’t even got the hue right.

“I’m loyal to my country, and always have been,” said Rikikida. Even as tyrant of the tracks, she had kept it in her mind that she did serve a higher cause.

“That’s the spirit, Saki!” Did Reiyomi really need to say anything?

“I will keep her sensible. Do not worry,” came the other veteran’s words. Gruff, wheezing, harsh- the tone of someone whose lungs were shredded by gas and whose will was odd unbreakable iron. And yet the undersized squealer was going to be the other representative of Kyoki Chudoku on the track? There was a good reason. There had to be. Her superiors weren’t that stupid...

“Excellent,” said the officer. “And now, we will collaborate, to develop letters for those teams you require. It will do us little good if you are each left out of the event...”

As you may or may not know, Saknomi Rikikida is participating in the WGP2 event. Having never lost to a domestic racer, and having served with great experience in high-speed and high-stress situations, she can truly be considered a veteran of the racetrack. Further, she even took part in WGPC, performing with excellence in numerous trails before an unfortunate local controversy- later disproven- forced her to resign from the event.

If you seek a champion to bring your team to the next level of skill and determination, look no further than her!

You have never heard of her, but by the end of the season you will be thanking her.

Hoshikari Yume is one of Kyoki Chudoku’s premier racers. She has drifted circles around the snowy mountains of Sangaku District, and her infectious enthusiasm makes her the ideal choice for a team player. Loyal, dependable, and excitable, that is Hoshikari Yume. And guess what? She can be yours. Need her to prove herself on the track first? She is eager to give it her best, and there is no stopping her once the wheels start rolling. Do not miss your opportunity, or you will regret it when she races rings around you as the competition.

1:00PM - Litzengau, Teusland

Magnus Schonau smiled as he hung up the phone. It was, certainly, one of the proudest moments of his life.

“We’re in.”

Those assembled in the conference room at the TMW Motorsport headquarters in Litzengau began to celebrate - as best as a group of perhaps too-formal businessmen and women can - as their boss spoke those words. Teussische Motoren Werke was officially a WGP2 team.

Schonau took a breath and spoke again. “This is going to be the challenge of a lifetime, but I know our team is capable of great things, together. Look at that picture on the wall -” he pointed at the photo of TMW pioneer Julius Schonau at the wheel of the company’s first-ever racing car “-do you think the old Baron ever thought we’d get to this point? It’s the challenge of a lifetime, but also the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Most of the people involved filed out of the room now, with a few key exceptions. TMW’s motorsport director, Helmut Hersching - a domestic champion himself in his prime, driving the famous gold and black car - the young driver, Heinz-Otto Junker, and the man who would be Team Principal, Jorn Feistel. Feistel had been TMW’s leader in the national championship for nearly a decade now, and he’d certainly earned the promotion. They all took seats at the table.

Schonau spoke first: “I think we can save the Bergsteiger for later,” a joke that drew smiles all around. “So, Heinz, tell me, you must be quite excited!”

The young driver spoke up. He was to put the finishing touches on his new contract later in the day. “Totally. Looking forward to getting to work, it’s going to be a difficult process but definitely one that we’re all going to learn from. You know me, I’m just excited to get back out there at top speed and just do my thing.”

“Sounds good to me,” said Schonau.

“You don’t have to deal with his crashes,” laughed Feistel, to the delight of the room.

“Sorry Jorn, but you can bet I’m still going to go for every gap here too,” said Junker.

“That’s why we love you,” replied Feistel with a pat on the back. Junker looked at his phone.

“Excuse me, guys, it’s my dad.” With that the young driver stepped out of the room.

Helmut Hersching waited carefully until he left the room to speak up. “Great kid, great driver - but what the fuck are we going to do about the dad.”

Schonau spoke up: “Is it still that bad?”

Feistel nodded. “He was using burner social media accounts to criticize me when we pitted him at the Rotmundering. You better get his signature on the contract as soon as you can, or Gotthard is going to demand an extra T5 million for something.”

Schonau considered the conversation. “So, what makes him happy?”

“Money, and wins for Heinz. It’s the classic case of the father living through the son. In karting, if Heinz didn’t win the race… you could hear the shouting from across the track. This is going to be something we have to be very careful about - Heinz isn’t like his dad, but he also loves his dad, and we can’t afford to upset both of them,” said Feistel.

“Keep him away from the track then. That was the problem - the guy came to every race and always had some scoop for the press, some dumb comment, always something,” said Hersching.

“It’s not like we can seize his fucking passport, can we?” asked Feistel.

“No, but maybe there’s something else? Send him to some of the sponsor events, he’s a former Fissler AG driver after all,” said Schonau.

“I think he had more crashes than points finishes, but yeah, maybe we can get him to entertain some of the big shots,” replied Herching.

Heinz-Otto walked back into the room now, smiling. “I told him we’ve got the spot! He said he’s going to come by in about half an hour.”

The others quickly glanced around the room. “Heinz, why don’t you head down to see Inge downstairs, she’s got your contract all ready to sign! If you’re in, of course,” said Schonau.

“Of course! Sounds like a plan,” said Junker, as he left the room.

“Great. He’s here in 30 minutes,” said Hersching.

“Well, let’s get the important stuff out of the way then. I take it Oliver Werich will be joining the team as Heinz’s race engineer again, who are you thinking for the second spot, Jorn?”

“I think we have to keep Dennis Bauer in the domestic championship with Patrick Metzinger. I was thinking Kaspar Flugel. He’s young, hungry, and I think it’ll be a big chance for him to step up.”

“Perfect. You know I trust you totally when it comes to that. Now, the biggest question - what are we going to do for the other seat?”

Heinrich Hersching spoke up now. “It’s going to be… interesting. Plenty of teams here are coming from established motorsport nations - known quantities. Safer options. We have to give a sort of X factor, a reason why they should choose us. We can compete with anyone financially, but it’s not all about that.”

Jorn spoke up as well. “I think the best thing to do would be to do some scouting, and run a testing session here at the Stelburgring. One of the advantages of having a track in our backyard.”

Schonau faced his team principal. “Jorn, we’ve already got Heinz as a younger driver - are you looking for a bit more experience, then, or does it matter for you?”

“I wouldn’t mind some experience, but we have to remember that a lot of these drivers are here looking for their shot at the big time. I think that’s our X factor - our plan, our vision. We don’t have the WGPC history of some of the other teams on the grid, but we do have a pretty good history - in my opinion at least - and a solid plan for the future. That’s what we can offer.”

“Do you think having a driver we’ve developed already in the seat might scare some off?”

“No, not really - these drivers all love the competition, and they know the teammate battle is the most important one to win, especially at this level. If anything, they’ll be wanting to come in here and beat the golden boy in his own team to prove themselves.”

Herschinger spoke up again - “Keep his dad as far as you can away from the Stelburgring that day, by the way. But look - honestly, there’s a few drivers making noise that I’ve got an eye on. One from our region - that would be nice with sponsors, too - and then a few of the other names. But a ton of chips are going to fall in the next few days here, we have to be ready. I’ll get in touch with some of the sponsors, too.”

Suddenly, a buzzer. “Mr Gotthard Junker is here to see you.”

Sighs around the table. “Haven’t even started testing and we’ve already got problems,” said Feistel.

"I'm sorry, Mel, but that's final," stated Joslyn Furbath, Field Office Manager for Sports Representation, with a tone encompassing compassion and understanding coupled with a tone of finality.

"But... You guys have been with me from the beginning, from the days when I dropped out of CSU (Chromatik State University) to pursue racing while helping my father at the shop! You can't abandon me now!" exclaimed Anola "Wrench" Melani.

At first glance, one wouldn't consider Anola to be very memorable. Standing about about five foot three (160cm) with a slim yet sturdy build, with dark brown hair, brown eyes, and soft features, she looked like the usual Chromatik woman, even if a bit shorter than average. However, anyone who knew her would agree that she had a way with words, and she was absolutely trying to use every bit of that skill now.

"It's the law, you see. Once you go professional in anything - start participating at the highest level in Chromatika - two if you're in football - or go abroad in anything, you are considered to be a professional, and need to get an official agent yourself. Consider it a rite of passage that you've passed," explained Furbath in an even tone, trying not to be won over. Not that she could be won over - there was literally nothing she could do for Anola, no matter how much she wished.

"So... What am I supposed to do now?" countered Anola in a dejected tone. When she dropped out of CSU to pursue domestic racing in a country that didn't have an established presence in it, the local DTLF office and especially Joslyn, a family friend, had been highly instrumental in making sure that she had all her i's dotted and her t's crossed so that she could just focus on racing. It had worked out well - in the fifteen domestic events Chromatika had in the last three years, she'd always finished on the podium, winning seven of those races, including the only Chromia Star Race to date. The prospect of having to get an official agent or represent herself was daunting.

"Oh, I'm not going to leave you out to dry if that's what you're asking," countered Joslyn, or "Jos" between them, "You're my friend before my client, and I can still give you some unofficial help. Before that, though, I know of a few people who're into representing athletes in less conventional sports - less conventional in Chromatika, that is - that I can introduce you to. There's one that I think would get along pretty well with you."

"Nobody is like you, Jos," answered Anola almost immediately, "What a pain."

"Oh, come on," quipped Joslyn, "Give them a try. I've never met her in person, but Rhianni Gea is the agent for five of the athletes that represented Chromatika in the Winter Olympics as well as that skateboarding champion from the Summer Games. If there's anyone who knows how to handle sports that don't have that much of a presence in our country, it'd be her."

Anola sighed in defeat. If it was the law, there was nothing more that could be done, and she could tell that Joslyn really was sorry.

"I'm sorry about putting you in a hard spot, Jos," she said a moment later, "Okay. Time to grow up, I guess. How can I meet this Rhianni?"

"Well, before that, I think it'd be a good first impression if you went to her with some potential contracts, wouldn't you?" stated Joslyn, a glint in her eye.

"You mean... I should try to get signed for this WGPC 2 without an agent? Are you kidding? I don't even know where to start!" Anola shouted, almost leaping out of her chair.

"No, no, that's not what I mean," said Joslyn in a calm voice, "I mean you should just put a communique that you're looking for a team, and see if you get any bites to come and try out. Once you have that, go to the meeting that I'll set up between you and Rhianni and tell her that you need her help to make sure that you get picked up by the right people for your career. Agents like her like people who take initiative in their own life, because it means that they're serious, you know? It'll go a long way, I can promise you."

"Oh... I guess I can do that," acquiesced Anola, 'Mind giving it a proofread?"

"Sure," replied Joslyn.

Five minutes later, Anola "Wrench" Melani had done two things: sign up any tests/tryouts available for a chance to prove herself, and sent the following notice to all the teams out there:

From: Anola Melani
To: Equipo Telebuenas-BA, Nykipflugpuun Noortekoondis, Bitten Heroes Academy-MW Racking, VSK-Maarukanna Racing, Nexus Racing, Fireline Motorsports, Teussiche Mtoren Werke, Grand PRix Sport Chanceux, Urotovsky-Gatutin Motorsports Division, Pyfors Bilar-Viska/Air Kalactin, PrismRiver Racing, Kaylan Racing Team, MontagneF1, National Armament Corporation Racing
Subject: Looking for a Team

Greetings,

I am Anola Melani, the current #1 ranked race car driver in Chromatika. I've been recently cleared to be the first Chromatik to compete in international racing, and would be honored to have a chance to participate in tryout events put on by your teams to become a driver in WGP2. I understand that I am an unknown quantity, but I am eager to prove my competence, personality, and work ethic on the track.

Please consider me for a spot on your team.

Sincerely,

Anola Melani

Before she left the office, Joslyn had made an appointment for Anola to meet Rhianni Gea in a week's time. All that was left was to wait...

"Finally, a new start!"

Raiko was ecstatic upon seeing the list of the accepted teams. "We took Viska's place in WGP2." He adds before noticing Pryfors Bilar-...Viska/Air Kalactin, to that he was surprised. At the end, Viska managed to find a way and Raiko thinks that this just fuels the rivalry between the two. Now at the international stage, it's going to be interesting. They now have a target - beat that team. Hopes are high given their previous performance in domestic motorsport after Schkeska's slump. It's a good thing that they were allowed to use their Wankel rotary engines, they can use their in-house services for easier communication and logistics as technical director Orel Narinko noted.

Speaking of which, he enters Raiko's office. "Rai, Martjen wants to talk to you."

"Where is he?" Raiko replies.

"At the simulator, we were assessing the performance of the car. It was promising then Martjen was concerned about who will we choose as our drivers."

Raiko worryingly replies. "Haven't though about how would choose our drivers."

Then Raiko's second-in-command Martjen Kronin enters his office after overhearing the conversation at the door. "Rai, I'm thinking of tryouts so we can go for drivers that suit our car. Different to what Viska does but they have a good eye for talent so they don't need to."

"Yeah, let's do that then. Let me book in three circuits so we can schedule the tryouts."

Later...
Reaching out to all WGP2 free-agent drivers,

VSK is inviting you to the team's tryouts for a chance to get offered a seat for this WGP2 season. All expenses will be paid by the team which includes the flights, food and hotel with an option of staying in VSK's premier drivers' dorms in Sterlennau. The tryouts will be held in three circuits for one week with qualifying and race to be held within a day. You will be driving the VSK F-21P that is similar to VSK's car for this season made to the exact specifications of WGP2. You will be familiarised with the team along the way with a system based on their VSK Junior Driver Academy.

- Raiko Meirokana, VSK-Maarukanna Team Principal

"Aaand send." Raiko leans back on his chair. " Whew, that's one thing down. Hopefully we would get a few drivers in."

Novitän, Kuyonne
Spending his off-time in Kuyonne, Haru finally gets to relax after doing well in the Nexus Driver Academy. In his hotel room in Novitän, his phone rang, he dashes inside to get his phone. It was a message from his friends at Krazivaran regarding his entry into WGP2. He was informed that signups began a day before and with that, he rushes to get his laptop to look at the list of teams.

...

"Vittu, ya kiirean janne." As he quickly browses the list of drivers and teams. "...I might need a little help here." He continues, looking at every single entry with one catching his attention - Laura Haukanna. "Well, I would be disappointed if she didn't enter. She even said that she'll be waiting to race me there... can't guarantee it if I don't have a team to drive for."
"Fuck, I need to work quick."

"Alright, let's get to work tomorrow, I don't want to wait it out."

He books a flight back to Auruna the next day and then he packs up. With the first thing in his mind is to start emailing the teams once he arrives. It was different to what he has to do domestically to earn a seat but it's worth a try.

Viska Factory
Sterlennau, Auruna

Laura Haukanna was called in by Jöna, to his office. While on the way there, she doesn't know what to expect as it was sudden, what was it about? She know her entry into WGP2 but it will prove to be difficult. It was a different environment than the MNA. Even then, it's going to be her first time in single-seaters.

Upon arriving in Jöna's office, she sits down on one of the chairs while Jöna is at his computer, waiting for him to start. She looks around anxiously, still waiting...

Jöna then starts. "So, Laura..." Which startles her. "Whoa, are you alright.?"

"Yes." Laura replies upon calming down. "I'm alright, it's just... the sudden call into your office. I don't know what news to expect, is it good or bad?"

"Well, it's good news!" He says, smiling. "PB-Viska is offering you a seat, as contracted. Just accept it and you're good to go!"

"Whew... good. Well then, I accept the offer."

"Great! I'll inform them about it, you can go now. I'll inform you of any future updates so relax for now."

"Alright, thanks Jöna." Then she leaves Jöna's office. Breathing a sigh of relief, the good news lifted her spirits after a difficult week back home. She head back to the drivers' lounge, planning to hang out with the other Viska drivers there, as recommended by Jöna to relax and enjoy before the season officially starts.

Valkyria: New Beginnings

Tragedy. That was what described Chars’ first season in the WGPC. No points, but for some reason managed to score two podiums in the non-championship races. Why did he falter at the wrong time? That was definitely not a question he was asking himself, though.

Chars, being Chars, was more worried about his media presence and reputation.

“My VSS prestige rating is falling! I’ve lost 24 followers the past month!” He lamented occasionally. When he wasn’t worrying about irrelevant prestige scores from an equally irrelevant sports magazine, he was streaming games or mukbangs, like your average sportsman Twiitch streamer. Other than that, what did he do? He definitely was working out a lot more.

“The more jacked up I am the more potential love interests I’ll have!” He’d think regularly. Silly Chars, this isn’t a harem anime or an otome game. “Shut up! You’re the narrator.” Right. Anyways, he was also thinking about what he’d do next season. Would he start streaming live races after he raced? Would he set up a meme channel? The possibilities were endless. After all, the less he thought about last season the better.

Ok one fateful day, Chars was scrolling through VSS as usual. “And Darn ads. I hate them... wait, what’s this?” Turned out it was an ad for WGP2 applications. Chars thought about it for a while. It would be cool to trump like everyone on the grid. Chars liked to be the star of whatever he participated in. On the other hand, it would be weird if he “demoted himself” to a tier below. I mean, it wasn’t exactly common, was it? He pondered for a while, looking out towards the skyline a few miles yonder.

“Mr Narrator, what do you think?” I’m the narrator. Don’t ask me. “Oh,” said Chars, disappointed. He thought for a little longer, before declaring, “Yes, I will enter this WGP2 season.” Being a big fish in a small pond was basically Chars’ principle in life. He wanted to prove that he wasn’t an absolute failure by storming through the WGPC. “I do have experience anyway. I’m a hot prospect,” Chars thought. His logic was that if he did very well in the WGP2, his chances of landing a WGPC seat was considerably higher.

Subject: Potential Seat-Opening

Hello,
I am Charyseine Valkyria, one of the free agents for this season’s WGP2 season. As a free agent, I feel that not only should I drive, but I should convince you to sign me, or at least a trial run. Having participated in the 18th season of the WGPC, I have much experience in racing at the highest levels. Despite my unsuccessful campaign, I still feel I can be a driving force your your teams as every team wishes to chase the Constructor’s Championship.
Despite my hopes to drive for any team, I still feel that a team with a car suited to my needs is more beneficial for both parties. Therefore, I especially wish that Bitten Heroes, Nexus Racing, Kaylan Racing Team and MontagneF1 will consider me as a candidate for their drivers.
I hope you can consider me this season, and if you choose me, I will not let you down.

Best regards,
Valkyria

Iskajärvi, Aboveland

Janne stands still in his bedroom, staring at the slide-out mattress he’d used, its fitted sheet wrinkled from the pillow towards the middle of the mattress and the top one kicked off and lumped towards the side. He’s covered in a light film of the night before; he takes his musk tainted shirt off, the hairs on the back of his neck lifting with its collar and sending a shiver up his skull then down his shoulders, and takes care to chuck it aside onto his spring-bed. His bottom lip quivers, along with his throat, and along joins his thundering heart, its pulse running up his ears to his temples.

Alone in total silence, in their own fabricated microbiome, isolated from the proverbial prying eyes outside his window, Janne falls to his knees. He pauses, looming over the mattress as his body tilts forwards, and in one fell swoop he lunges towards the pillow, burying his face in the silk lined cushion. As he grips the edges of the fitted sheet, pinning his warm body against the cloth, he groans and inhales deeply through his nose; like a wildcat, he scavenges its surface, rummaging through the floral scent of his laundry detergent until he catches a deep gulp of his hair. Yes, there, it’s there; he exhales heavily through his mouth, off to one side, and takes another momentous bucket of air through his nose, of his sweet, fresh, profound smell. Bringing both his hands towards the pillow, he squeezes it into a ball, submerging his face into the fabric. He moans again, then smiles. It still smells like him.

While he caresses the pillowcase, one of his hands breaks free from its grip and inches closer towards the center of the mattress, where the sheets had been outstretched surrounded by a ring of crinkled fabric kicked off to the side. He pulls away from the pillow, his hair now a mess, his breathing heavy and his mouth ajar. He doesn’t stop enough to let himself think straight or to see himself from a third person perspective; if anyone were to walk in he’d look insane, or intoxicated, or possessed--but these were all things he was, entirely consumed and enslaved to his love, engulfed in his infatuation. Swiftly, his hand slides towards the stretched patch of the sheets. Soon follows his other one, and next he drags his face straight down from the pillow onto the fitted sheet.

His nose pinned against the cloth, he inhales, breathing in a gallon of air every two inches he moves closer to his hands, which now clutch the raised sheets around the patch. He slides, smells, pauses and exhales, frantically hunting down the sweet musk impregnated on the fabric as he had on the pillow, wading through the lavender field to find his meal. He’s overcome by his instinct, almost ridiculously so, but not even the slightest hint of the intrusiveness of the thought deters him.

The scent, when he discovers it, hits instantly, and it caresses his head and his body as tightly and lovingly as he does the sheets. The rush is like a high, or like what he imagines a high to be like, a rocket kick to the senses and a violent tickle of the hypothalamus. He moans again, this time audibly but for nobody but himself, and interring his head in the fabric he takes the biggest sniff he can physically manage. He becomes briefly desperate as the scent escapes his grasp, and searches frantically for the hotspot in desperation until it resurfaces and calms his anxiety. The smell on the sheet, so real, so sincere, so profound and savory and full; it embodies him, and his face, and his aquamarine eyes, and his tufts of wavy, not-quite-curly, dark golden hair, and his textured skin, and his rosy cheeks, and his perfect teeth, and the silky roof of his mouth, and his vascular arms, and his loving touch, and his voice, and his being. He’s his will to live, his temporal dimension, his silver lining and his beacon of hope, his desire, his want, his need--the origin, purpose, and meaning of his love.

“Kelssek,” he whispers softly, reaching over his head to pull the pillow towards his chest, and kissing the edge of the pillowcase.

Kylmajärvi, Aboveland

Sami's hair, more golden than a month back, flutters in the chill March breeze, far less threatening than just a few weeks ago deep into the winter. He's still dressed in his deep navy Olympic jacket, AOC logo emblazoned over his heart, leaning against the outside wall of a coffee shop Janne said he liked. He was the local, after all; Sami himself was more of a farm kid. Pysyväräntä wasn't actually a rural community, per se, as it qualified as a suburb of Kylmajärvi, but he'd really rarely ventured into the city for anything other than skating practice. Anything Janne recommended was fine by him--most important was actually getting to see him after so long. He does, however, bite his lip, picking at the cracked layers of skin which have bloomed away and inhaling through his teeth as he pulls just a little too far. He closes his eyes and dabbles the underside of the tip of his tongue along the wound. It tastes metallic. Oops.

As he brings his ring finger up to his mouth, tapping to check for blood, a soft, peppy voice arrives at his ears, carried by the wind. He gleams as if it were a reflex.

Janne says nothing, but stops in his hurried stride and just barely squats, forcing wider an already beaming, toothy grin, then cracking his mouth open to shriek quietly and almost ironically. "Finally!" he exclaims with a high pitched whisper, his arms wide open. Sami's smile grows, but he's more of a mysterious, aloof character. He's sensitive but hard to crack, and a couple months haven't yet been enough to crack his defenses fully. His inside is gooey, but he's still hiding behind a dry shell. Janne, however, doesn't hold back at all.

Leaping towards Sami, Janne wraps him in his arms, carefully sliding them between the skater's and his body, and presses his face against his clavicle, his head nestled under his chin. He gives Sami a squeeze, and a little bit of a shake, until Sami returns the favor with a similarly mellow embrace. As Janne pulls back, he stares upwards--175 vs 187cm--into his teal eyes and slightly puckers his lips, promptly receiving what he's asking for.

"I've missed you," Janne mutters, his nose almost touching Sami's, his ungloved hand rising from behind to caress his left ear. "A lot."

"Me too," replies Sami, his eyes kind, yet shielding a twang of guilt.

Looking For Opportunities
Wrote In First Person

Of course, you had been a great driver to be able to reach the level of WGP2, but you also need to be good at negotiating. I have been working my ass off for 4 years now, winning three back to back seasons of the National Open-Wheel Racing Championships in 2022, 2023 and 2024. It was time to move on to bigger and better things as I had a lot to prove.

Devendra Chauhan is always the one who does the emails and stuff. I am just a bit nervous about writing emails to people, so I try to come off as confident (somewhat cocky too) in my emails. I only know one thing, racing. I have been racing for 8 years, it is what brought me here in the first place. Devendra Chauhan fulfilled my dreams and now I want to fulfil his.

It's time to look for a team. I didn't think any team would be interested, but you gotta start somewhere. I did some research on a few teams, I found two I was most interested in, Fireline Motorsports and Teussische Motoren Werke. Teussische Motoren Werke was quite balanced, they focused on all three things for their vehicle which is reliability, acceleration and turning. When it comes to reliability, Fireline Motorsports definitely had the upper hand over Teussische Motoren Werke.

During my research, I found out about the GPSC Trials. The Grand Prix Sport Chanceux were holding trials with the top two drivers being offered a seat. Instead of racing on a track, we will be using racing simulators used by the Centre D'espoir le Automobile for testing. "Well, that's interesting," I said to myself as I never ever tried a racing simulator before. I didn't care as I needed to take every opportunity that comes to me. If I don't, I would be lost in the shuffle.

I ringed Mr Chauhan and he picked up the call and I said, "Hello Mr Chauhan, there are a few opportunities here. I was looking at both Teussische Motoren Werke and Fireline Sports and I think I could maybe have a chance." He started speaking, "That's great, I heard a bit about Fireline Sports. Their car this season is quite reliable, I think it would be great for you. Teussische Motoren Werke has a great car too, not sure who would be more willing to sign you. I definitely suggest contacting them and finding out if they are interested in you." I paused for a second, "You want ME to contact them?! You know I suck at that!" Chauhan replied, "You're 25 years old mate, time to grow up." I agreed and proceeded "Also, I was checking out this GPSC Trials. It looks like Grand Prix Sport Chanceux is looking to offer a seat to the top two drivers. Should I go for it?" He replied, "Aren't they using racing simulators instead of doing it on a track? I hate those racing simulators! Real racing is making tight turns and going at full speed on a straight line with the sun trying to burn you. Stupid simulators!" I honestly didn't understand why he hated simulators, I replied "Yeah, but I think I should go for it. Their car is great when it comes to reliability and acceleration, just not that good when it comes to turning. I have a better chance here to get into a team." Mr Chauhan replied, "That's fine. If you do well, Fireline Motorsports and Teussische Motoren Werke might notice you."

After I was done talking to him, I quickly typed a few emails and sent them to the three teams I was interested in.

PRESTON AUTOS WINS WGP2 ENGINE CONTRACT, TO SUPPLY EIGHT TEAMS

Preston Autos is proud to announce that it has won the spec contract for the upcoming WGP2 season, and will supply eight teams in the upcoming season with the WGP2 spec of Preston’s new Skychief V6, the turbocharged stock-block engine that powered the Preston Autos Grand Prix Racing team to three victories during the last World Grand Prix Championship season.

“We are delighted to win the contract,” said Shawn Hammer, head of Preston Performance Products. “Preston Autos is committed to expanding its motorsport efforts to support all varieties of racing teams in different disciplines, beyond stock car racing, and into single-seater racing, sports-prototype racing and beyond. We feel that the teams that utilize the Skychief V6 will have a tremendous advantage over the rest of the field.”

Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis, Fireline Motorsports, Grand Prix Sport Chanceux, Pryfors Bilar-Viska, PrismRiver Racing, Kaylan Racing Team, MontagneF1 and National Armament Corporation Racing will utilize the Skychief V6 during this year’s WGP2 Championship, and will benefit from individual staffs from Preston Autos to help mate their cars to the stock-block V6 engine.

“We are looking to make sure our teams have the most comfortable transition to the Skychief V6 that we can provide,” Hammer says. “Our goal is to make sure the teams have as little teething problems as possible with the new engine, and to make sure the teams have the best experience possible with the new engine.”

The engine, a 3-liter engine, will be boosted, in ideal situations, with 52.5 inches of boost pressure, down from the 55 inches of boost the WGPC-spec, 3.43-liter engine enjoys. The engine, like the WGPC-spec engine, is built from the same engine block in the base Preston Skychief automobile, the best-selling car in all of Hapilopper the last year. But unlike the 200 horsepower the base Preston Skychief enjoys, the WGP2-spec engine will provide over 700 horsepower to its eight WGP2 teams and 16 drivers.

Through the winter, the engine has been tested and perfected by the Preston Autos Grand Prix team and drivers Rudy Edwards and test driver Alex Bivins, who both praised the engine’s smoothness and reliability. Utilizing a modified version of the PGP-01 that nearly drove Edwards to the World Grand Prix Championship last season, both drivers said the engine felt even smoother than last year’s WGPC-spec engine.

“It’s a narrow power band, up to 9500 RPM at its peak,” Edwards said, “but you won’t have to be careful with the throttle. The power comes up so gradually that it just feels right in every way. There are some engines I’ve run that you have to learn some tricks to make sure you get the most power at the right time. You might have to feather the throttle or hit the gas early so you can exploit whatever turbo lag might exist, but none of that exists here. You put your foot on the gas and the right amount of power comes when you want it.”

During the upcoming WGP2 season, a large collection of Preston mechanics will be on site during every race to ensure that teams get the assistance they need with the Skychief V6, at any point during the race weekend. Those in the paddock needing to ask a technical question concerning the engine can contact Dave Hayward, chief engineer, at (935) 2520-6511-8522. For media relations concerning the Skychief V6, contact Jules Peterson, public information officer, at (935) 2520-6511-8502.

SPORTS - WGP2 HOPEFUL PRESSLEY TALKS TO THE INDEPENDENT ABOUT HOPES IN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

STRATON - In a country where auto racing has begun to gain popularity, today our leading Sports Correspondent Janice Woods sat down with Ted Pressley, one of motorsports' young stars (and Tumbran flag-bearer) who hopes to gain a seat in the upcoming WGP2 championship in order to further his racing career and prospects. This interview has been lightly edited for clarity and for readability.

JW: Good morning, Ted! I hope your trip here was comfortable. We're very excited to have you with us.

TP: Yeah, it was great! It feels good to be with you guys, who were willing to give me an interview to really get my name out there.

JW: So we're going to hop right in - could you give us a bit of a self-introduction? Let our readers know who you are?

TP: My name's Ted Pressley, but I'm guessing you knew that about me. I grew up in Millsburgh, in an industrial area of the city - which made me fascinated in machines and such as a kid, because I wanted to help out around the workshop that my dad and mom operated. I started helping out during my school holidays when I was 9 - not out of necessity or anything, mind you, because I was just really interested in cars and how they worked, specifically. On the weekends my dad would bring me down to the local karting course, where he was employed part-time to fix up the karts there, and he asked me to drive the slower karts to test out whether his repairs worked! And since then, I've been hooked. Going from local championships to regional ones, and now I feel like I'm ready to take the next step up.

JW: Certainly sounds like a fascinating beginning. What happened from there?

TP: Well, when I was thirteen, I told my dad - "Dad, I want to become a race car driver". And he really just looked at me in the eye and told me "Say that again, but slowly." Turns out it was his dream to have a kid who was a race car driver - he wanted to become one himself, but his own father wouldn't let him. And so we began our trip into motorsports. It was rough at first - our operation began as just me, my dad and a couple of his friends he roped in - but when we ascended higher, and we needed more funding, he mortgaged our house to help. And I'm just really, really thankful for that, and I hope I can repay him by doing the best I can in the upcoming championship.

JW: That's a really inspiring story! One of paternal love. I assume your mom was on-board as well?

TP: Yeah, she complained about it at first, but she recognised that it's something that I really wanted to do. She and my dad have been my foundation of support, really.

JW: Let's talk about your style of driving. How would you describe it?

TP: Me? On the roads, I'm definitely a calm driver, yeah, and I feel that translates to the circuit as well. In the lower formula my engineers always told me I was a bit too cautious with the car - but I've always believed that to finish first, first you must finish. And that applies to everything, really.

JW: Indeed, it seems that you've gained a reputation for being a bit of a tyre whisperer - one that manages to strike a fine balance between extracting performance and keeping the tyres warm enough. We spoke to some of your race engineers too, and they said you were one of the most hands-on drivers they'd ever met - you could discuss everything with them, it seemed!

TP: (laughs) I suppose, if they were the ones who said it, then how can they be wrong? I've always believed in working with my engineers. They are, after all, the backbone of the team. And if they want to suggest setup changes, I'm always happy to test them out and give feedback, and I always enlist their help for feedback too.

JW: Finally, are there any teams that you wish to drive for in the upcoming season?

TP: Oo, that's a tough one. I'd have to say Fireline Motorsports, Teussische Motoren Werke and Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis would have to be my top three choices. Of course, I'd love to drive for Urotovsky-Gatutin Motorsports Division as well - their style of car-building I feel speaks to me. One day, though I'd like to drive for a Tumbran team - really fly the flag on the highest stages. But for now, I'll be aiming to get my name as far out there as possible - that's why I'll be attending the tryouts for the VSK-Maarukanna team as well.

JW: Well, we're hopeful you're able to secure a spot. And we're hopeful that you'll be able to bring us along on your story as you write it in WGP2.

TP: I certainly hope to have a long and storied career in motorsports as well. Thank you for having me.

Badai Angin Tim Motorsport office
Yogyakulta, Filindostan
Three weeks after end of WGPC 18 season

It has been close to two weeks after the trio of Rudolf Ibuna, Bryant Gambal, and Eko Pratana vacated their offices in the headquarters of Badai Angin Tim Motorsport in Yogyakulta. It was decided during the closing stages of the season that their contracts would not be renewed for next season, and as a result, Ibuna and Gambal mutually terminated their agreement with Badai Angin to be the junior team of the motorsports division in WGP2 for the upcoming fourth season, as well in the Formula Hodori series. This meant that there would be no operator of their junior team and Rod Gozum would momentarily lose his ride for the fourth season of the second tier series unless the new majority owners, Jose Manuel Varadi, would make some deals to continue having an operated team in it.

As Badai Angin have increased their commitment to the NSCCRA in the foreseeable future with the expansion and technical alliance with Katana Racing of Aji No Moto, they will not afford to allocate resources to the WGP2 program by operating the team in-house. This was the time Monghit Motorsport came into the picture, with the team already operating Badai Angin-sponsored entries in the Hodoran GT series. Although the team has a distant lineage from the Monghit Motorsport from Sangti which competed in the earlier seasons of Formula Hodori and the International Super Formula Championship (NSFC), they turned out to be a fierce competitor to the IGR operation in WGP3 Filindostan, when Gozum, then their driver in the series, won the title for the team. The deal for Monghit to take over the operation of what IGR left (WGP2 and Formula Hodori) for the next three season was completed. Manolo Ricafort, Monghit's primary team prinicpal in the WGP3 Filindostan series, will take the reins on the upcoming WGP2 campaign.

Although the outfit will be operated by Monghit Motorsport, the team's identity in both the open wheel series will reflect the Hispinas' telecommunications giant, Telebuenas, while Badai Angin will be reduced to an engine supplier and co-title sponsor of the new outfit. which was registered as Equipo Telebuenas - Badai Angin, or Equipo Telebuenas - BA for short. Manolo's first move was to announce that Rod Gozum will be the #1 driver for Equipo Telebuenas-BA. He then composed an open invitation for all the drivers interested for a spot in the team.

Good day!

This is Manolo Ricafort, Team Principal of Equipo Telebuenas - Badai Angin, based from Yogyakulta in Filindostan. Our team has been accepted as one of the entrants in the upcoming WGP2 season. As such, we would like to invite you to a open testing session as we are offering one seat in our team for the season. The test sessions will be held in a private track in Jakulta where drivers' skill in both technical, aggressive, and balanced tracks will be tested. We will do the driver selection based on how they conduct and present themselves, and how they deal with the characteristics of the track while driving a season-old WGP2 spec chassis.

If you are interested to be part of the team as our second driver, please express your interest by leaving a response in this email, or by any other means. Looking forward to hear from you soon.

OOC: This can be in a form of a WGP2 RP, or TG/DM in NS Telegram or Discord.

Manolo pressed the 'Send' button in his mobile phone and started to wait for responses in hopes of searching for a right driver for the team.

(The below is an extract from an episode of The Out Lap, a Licentian podcast focussed on karting and racing. HM refers to the host, Harry Malcolm, while JW refers to karting prodigy and WGP2 hopeful, Joy Wingelaar.)

HM: Hello and welcome back to the Out Lap. I’m very excited about what we’ve got coming up next. I have in the studio with me the most dominant woman in Licentian karting history, who is now looking to make the step up and become the first Licentian since Lukas Forbes to compete in an international racing series. Joy Wingelaar, how are you?

JW: Very well thanks Harry, glad to be on the show.

HM: Fantastic. So, it’s well established that an international racing series like WGP2 has a lot of people from around the multiverse who want to try their hand behind the wheel of one of these cars. What makes you think that you have what it takes to get one of those coveted seats this season?

JW: It’s always strange answering questions like this, because there’s that part of me that is expecting not to get there! I think I’ve always gone by the principle that if you don’t try, you’ll never know. I’ve had some fantastic years in karting, and it seems like now is the perfect time to try and make the step up.

HM: And how do you think you’ll go about getting a seat?

JW: I don’t want to sound arrogant, but this is a very strange experience, because I’ve nearly always had people approaching me to get me to drive their car! Now the shoe is very much on the other foot. These teams have no reason to take me on, and I have a lot to prove to them if I want any chance of getting a seat.

HM: Yeah, I can imagine that being a challenge for you; suddenly your reputation on the Isles is being looked at on a very different scale.

JW: Exactly! I’m very lucky in the opportunities I’ve had and the cars I’ve been able to drive in the national series, but there is a whole big world outside of these Isles, and while some of these teams might have seen a video or two of my racing before, I’ve got a whole lot more to do to convince them that I’m the best driver for them.

HM: So have you approached any teams in particular, or are you casting a wide net and sending tapes across the multiverse?

JW: I have sent stuff out to a couple of teams that have announced that they’re running tests, I feel like if I talk to everyone I’ll just seem desperate! I’m not sure I’m allowed to say who to be honest, since I suspect that’s your next question.

HM: Damn you’ve got me! I was hoping for a juicy exclusive from you.

JW: You’ve interviewed me far too many times for me to fall into that trap Harry…

(Both laugh)

HM: In that case, I’ll pick your brains on something else. What is the most exciting thing to you about moving up to a series like WGP2? What’s the big draw that’s got you pushing for that seat.

JW: It’s a couple of things really. One is that getting those opportunities could possibly lead to a bigger career in motorsport, which has been one of my dreams since I was a wee girl.

HM: Yes, we’ve all seen the pictures of you when you were five at the wheel of your dad’s tractor!

JW: I think those are fairly well known at this point… Yeah, the opportunity to do something like this now would be fantastic, it would mean a chance for my parents to see me succeed on a level that I don’t think any of us expected; if I can make all of the trips around the Isles and all the money they put into my dream pay off, then that would be fantastic.

HM: Aye, that makes a lot of sense, we’ve all seen your dad Petrus at karting meets around the country; he’s almost as much of a fixture as you at this point!

JW: Yeah, definitely! The other side of it is getting the opportunity to see the world. You know, you look at the list of tracks from this series in previous years, you look at some of the ones that are rumoured for this year, and it honestly makes me so excited. The thought of going around the world driving fast cars is just amazing.

HM: That makes complete sense. Speaking of the tracks rumoured to be on the calendar this year, one of them is a lot closer to home. How do you feel about the possibility of a WGP2 race on Hessington?

JW: It’ll be especially exciting if I get a seat; it’s the one place I have an advantage over the rest of the field! (Both chuckle.) In all seriousness though, it would be absolutely amazing even if I’m not lucky enough to get a drive this year. Hessington is a beautiful place, and it would be a really cool challenge for drivers who might not be used to tracks with so many changes in elevation. I know I’ve made mistakes on that course before, and it really makes you pay when you do cock up.

HM: You definitely can’t be too aggressive when you’re going round there.

JW: Absolutely, and I hope we get the chance to see how the other drivers deal with it this season.

HM: Well, I suspect that I should let you get back to your schedule of messaging teams and racing in the simulator! Joy, thank you for joining us on the Out Lap.

JW: My pleasure Harry.

HM: And now, let’s take a quick moment to thank our second sponsor for this podcast, Levering. The premier food delivery service in the Isles gets you your dinner at the press of a button, and it’ll cost even less if you use the code “OutLap”…

Joy Wingelaar privately expresses an interest in joining PB-Viska, Teussische Motoren Werke, and Equipo Telebuenas-BA

TImantirkas, Nykipiflugpuu

"Kaidi Enni Saino-Iakkyy," reads a monotone offstage narrator, as a sparse, slow burning applause fills--half-way--the conference tent. The sound of Kaidi's short heels overpowers that of the audience's feeble palm strikes, overpowered itself by the billow of the wind outside, as she enters the floodlight (singular) which illuminates the small center stage on which the President stands. Heikki Myyrsistõlisysttästäjä, fat, short and stocky, his beard like Santa, his eyes like Satan. Kaidi smiles politely as she meets the Nykipish leader, bowing her head slightly but not enough to peek from behind her clear framed glasses. She's easily ten centimeters above the President on the worst of days, and by the looks of it this one was faring a little better.

As soon as the president opens his mouth, she zones out, locked in her TV person cycle of grin, nod, look to the side, look to the front, repeat. This is Myyrsistõlisysttästäjä's turn to present his excellent plan to his cronies--also his cabinet, also the ministers, also the advisors, and also the village idiot, the cook, the janitor and the dentist. She's already heard it all; clinching Tropicorp Racing Ælund's technical support back in December all but assured Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis 2 a spot in the fourth season of WGP2, and she'd already met with Edvin over in Lintulahti and worked out how the team operation would function--essentially, the team owners (the Nykipish government, officially via the Nykipish Tourism and Sporting Board (of which she was now figurative head following the conclusion of the XV Olympic Winter Games), in reality on the whims of the President) would be the ones funneling funding towards Nykipiflugpuu Noortekoondis, itself a project of the NTSB more than an entity in and of itself, from Timantirkas in Svalbard, while the day-to-day logistics and design operations would be carried out by a small team from the Abovian half of Tropicorp Racing Ælund in Lintulahti. The Nykipish government adamantly requested they have a say in the drivers' pick when the time comes, however, in exchange for the hefty sums of money which TRÆ delightfully accepted. In short, the team is financed and managed by the Nykipish government from Timantirkas through Kaidi, wherever she may be, while the actual operation of the team is based in Lintulahti, Aboveland. It had taken some convincing from Kaidi for the Nykipish government to let her roam the Abovian Union freely for organization purposes; it was quite clear she'd have to spend far more time in Lintulahti than the bigwigs would have liked, but anything went so long as it assured success.

As per Nykipish tradition, everything had to be seven times as complicated as it had any right to be. Certainly, running a grand prix racing team from the middle of nowhere in the arctic circle wasn't simply a tough ask, it was simply impossible. Without a single permanent asphalt road in all of Nykipiflugpuu, no facilities short of a handful of empty hangars, and a populace mostly preoccupied with their day-to-day family economics rather than pursuing such unavailable luxuries as a higher education beyond year ten, there simply was no foundation left by the first Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis moonshot (let alone the fact that its owners had been convicted of a felony and subsequently... killed, their assets consequently coming under control of the state).

The second attempt at a Nykipish grand prix team materialized not quite out of thin air, but rapidly. It was Tropicorp Racing Ælund that had come seeking a means to funnel young talent into their main WGPC squad, remembering the short lived fart-in-a-wicker-basket of a team that had surfaced the year prior. The team IP was there, unused; the old HQ had been abandoned, but had managed to stay surprisingly preserved over the winter months; and team apparel had been commissioned, though only a handful of boxes had arrived by the time the gig went under.

Myyrsistõlisysttästäjä, then, decided the name and the few assets left behind could be put to good use, and instead of asking for money, promised to shell some out himself from who knows where. Almost immediately, Kaidi, one of Nykipiflugpuu's most successful ice racing stars of the past century, was scouted and fished out of her father's harbor's office to become the new head of the NTSB and consequently team principal of Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis, For Real This Time.

Kaidi herself, though having lived in Nykipiflugpuu her whole life as the only child of a hard-working single father, was surely the best Nykipik Myyrsistõlisystästäjä could have chosen for the job. Decades ago, when she was just a pre-teen and Nykipiflugpuu's demographics were more favorable for the job market, her father had a wider pool of potential employees to choose from to help around the harbor. As business was doing well, she was free to do as she pleased, and was a keen student from a young age.

Nykipiflugpuu's motorsport heritage is almost non-existent, though ice racing has existed throughout history at a very grassroots level. Kaidi, coming from a lineage more concerned with trout and vessels than wheeled vehicles, essentially taught herself everything she had to know to enter motorsport. Using the diesel motor from a wonky generator her father had thrown out, and a kart frame made out of wood scraps, she entered the ice racing scene against similarly amateur, homebrewed machines and was instantly successful, though while she was among the leaders she never quite earned the local recognition given to her male peers. As the years went by, political instability and a sharp demographic shift hurt her father's fishing business, and almost overnight her fledgling ice racing trajectory came to an abrupt end. However, through the years, her rickety machine had become more sophisticated, and after clawing out as much information as possible from the sparse libraries sprinkled around Nykipiflugpuu, her technical expertise had grown exponentially. Still a known character in local circles, the Saidi-Iakkyy name seemed fresh in Myyrsistõlisystästäjä's mind, and again overnight her motorsports career seemed to have been placed back on track.

Applause fills the tent once more, perhaps a little more enthusiastically than before, and the floodlight shifts from center stage to aim directly at her. Now, it seems its her turn to announce how the driver selection process for Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis would go about. This was something she'd gone over with Edvin Pekkanen, head of Tropicorp Racing Ælund and supervisor of the logistical efforts of the Abovian team assisting the Nykipiks.

She clears her throat before beginning, to give a clear, concise address. No mention of the public, or thanks for having me, just cutting straight to the point.

"Given the lack of a permanent asphalt racing facility, our geographical remoteness, and the fact our vehicles for the coming grand prix season are currently under production in Lintulahti, Aboveland,"

The audience groans, and she holds back the desire to scrunch her nose in disgust.

"...our first step towards consolidating our WGP2 season 4 campaign will be hosting a drivers' test at Toralmintii International Circuit, on a yet to be determined date. All drivers will be invited to participate, though we have specific interests in Sakinomi Rikikida, Taras Matviyenko, Haru Jukkena, Laura Haukanna, Lukas Fichter, Harry Zoomtwat, Katie Edwards, and Skiia Vialiv.

"Long list," mutters silently an audience member.

"Yeah," replies Kaidi, very slightly defiantly.

More Opportunities
Wrote In First Person As Indra Vartak

I have been busy for some time now as I have to keep an eye on all teams to see if I have a few more opportunities to get in a team. I already emailed Grand Prix Sport Chanceux, Fireline Motorsports and Teussische Motoren Werke. Nothing from Teussische Motoren Werke, Fireline Motorsports or Grand Prix Sport Chanceux yet, but I can't just sit and wait. I must keep moving forward and keep looking for more opportunities and shine brighter than others.

My phone started ringing and I picked up the call, "Equipo Telebuenas-BA is holding trials! This is great! You have to sign up for that!" "Wait, what?" I replied, I heard a lot about Badai Angin from WGPC and they are working with Equipo Telebuenas-BA as an engine supplier. They have a pretty good car, so I was hooked by this news.

I knew what to do, I quickly grabbed my laptop and wrote up my email. You can't let chances like these pass while waiting for others to reply.

From: Indra Vartak
To: Manolo Ricafort
Subject: The Open Invitation For Equipo Telebuenas-BA

Hello Mr Ricafort,

I am Indra Vartak, the fastest rising star of Pratapgadh and the first-ever Pratapgadhi to reach the level of WGP2. I have experience in both go-karting and open-wheel racing to back me up and also have a knowledge of engines due to my father's background. What are my achievements you might ask? I have been racing for eight years now, including three years of go-karting. I won my first season of Mumbai Go-Karting Championships in 2017 when I was just 17 years old. I have won three back to back seasons of the National Open-Wheel Racing Championships in 2022, 2023 and 2024. It is 2025 now and I have decided that it's time to go further. I am currently 25 years old, which means I have the aggression of a young man and maturity on my side, making me a reliable driver for Equipo Telebuenas-BA.

I have written this email to inform you that I am interested in getting a spot in Equipo Telebuenas-BA's trials as I believe I have what it takes to push Equipo Telebuenas-BA further and prove to be a reliable driver.

Thank you,

by Featherstonehaugh Cholmondeley
Address: The Hon. Aristophanes Quintlebert Shadowfax Myrtleberry-Peregrine-Zoomtwat de Pfeffel, DSO and Bar, is known to all and sundry as Harry Zoomtwat. Those wishing for a more formal tone could call him Major Zoomtwat (though brevetted Lieutenant Colonel, he never uses this rank); those wishing for less formality will find he responds perfectly affably to a simple Harry (and perfectly non-affably to anyone using his hated full given name). Harry’s formal address is at the Zoomtwat family manor in Berkfordshire, but in practice he only visits the house a couple of times a year to catch up on laundry and impregnate one or two of his brothers’ wives. Nor is he usually to be found at his apartment in Londontown. Instead, he is far more likely to be reached at the Nord’s Club, a gentleman’s club in St. Jimbo’s Street in Londontown.

Finances: Harry Zoomtwat is a gentleman of leisure. As such, he will under no circumstances accept any ‘professional’ engagement with a team: to pay him a salary would be a grave insult and met with a possible invitation to duel. Instead, he will compete in the strictest spirit of Corinthian amateurism. (Any prize moneys awarded are fair game, however. He will also not be shy about making use of any complimentary mini-bars.) He has substantial personal wealth through his business pursuits both conventional (management of his family’s grouse moors and farming estates, revenue from a merchant bank of which he serves as director) and unconventional (ask various anguished native tribes searching for the location of their most precious jewels for further details, see also a shifty looking fellow propping up the bar in a Maghreb saloon about the location of a few crates of Mauser rifles intended for the King’s 7th Light Expeditionary). Additionally, for a starving, war-weary population facing the bleak prospects of industrial action on the streets of home and the rise of unpleasant political agitation abroad, his bold tales of derring-do should command a lively audience, and accompanying commercial opportunities. His current sponsors include Olde Beesegrove’s Famouse Moustache Waxe, the gentleman’s tailors Carruthers & Carruthers, Goldman’s Finest Tobacco, the coffee producers West & Sons, and Professor Norbert H. Parabolic-Sphere’s Patented Gentleman’s Elixir (slogan: “guaranteed to put some lighter in your blighter”).

“Sid”: Harry’s manservant is Lance Corporal Gurvinder Rajandev Sidhu. A tall, slender, immaculately dressed Sikh who speaks impeccable unaccented English (along with 27 other languages), Sid (as Harry refers to him) is an expert marksman, cook, mapmaker, navigator, medic, tailor, and mechanic. Unswervingly loyal to Harry, Sid manages his master’s affairs with utter aplomb and a wit so dry not even Harry’s well-stocked drinks cabinet could revive it. Most of Harry’s correspondence will in fact be handled by Sid, who will also accompany his master on all trips and team visits, sniffily correcting hotel staff on proper etiquette.

Communications: Emails addressed to Harry will magically turn into telegrams as they enter the 1922 world of Featherstonehaugh Cholmondeley. Similarly, Harry will answer via telegrams, which will be converted into emails on entering the prime multiverse. General announcements and open invitations will appear in the Announcements column of the Londontown Times, which Sid reads to Harry. Anyone wishing to enter the world of Featherstonehaugh Cholmondeley in order to speak directly with Harry will find that on entering the parallel universe, their clothes and any technology all instantly become period appropriate; the effects will revert on their departure. As a gentleman’s club, women visitors will not be admitted to the Nord’s Club, so any such women should bring a male companion and/or fake beard. Harry will speak (the King’s) English by default but both he and Sid are exceptional linguists and should be able to master any foreign language with trivial ease.

Travel: Harry possesses a military surplus Handley Page bi-plane, which he will fly to tests, interviews, and any other pre-signing meetings in. The plane is large enough to accommodate him, Sid, and a generous quantity of alcohol, plus an emergency bottle strapped to the tail. If signed to a team, Harry will arrange for his custom Grand Prix Sunbeams 1922, with a 2 litre engine heavily souped up through Sid’s mechanical magic, to be shipped out to him by cargo steamer, and will use this to drive between races (with Sid either squashed into the passenger seat or hanging on for dear life off the back, depending on how many cases of whisky they’re carrying).

Disclaimers: Harry will disregard all ‘no smoking’ signs and be seen puffing cigarettes, cigars, and pipes (tobacco, hash, and, depending on race results, opium). Harry cannot be held legally responsible for any injuries, mayhem, or pregnancies caused as a result of his actions in the prime universe.

In a drawing room of the Nord’s Club, a barrel-chested gentleman with an astonishing moustache was being read to by a tall, slim man wearing a turban.

“…assured the Ambassador that the speaker represented a minor workers’ party with no realistic prospect of gaining political power.”

“Damnable little fool with his silly little paintbrush whiskers,” muttered Harry into a cut-glass tumbler dangerously low in level. “Don’t understand why they waste the column inches on some jumped-up little corporal.”

Corporal Sidhu betrayed not a hint of emotion as he impassively turned the page from Foreign News to Announcements.

“…are pleased to announce the forthcoming wedding of Lieutenant Reginald Pippington-Smythe…”

“Little Reggie Pipsqueak, eh? Solid chap. Buggered him senseless when he was my subaltern over there, doncha know.”

“…and Lady Penelope Parpington-Smythe-Phillips…”

“Penny Parpers, eh? Smashing gal. Buggered her senseless when we shared an overnight cabin on the steamer up to Glasburg, doncha know.”

“…to be officiated by the Canon of Wells-on-Wells-by-Wells, the Rt. Rev. Robert Runcingham-Smythe-Phillips-Hambledon…”

“Robbie the Runt! Decent fellow. Buggered him senseless when I was his house prefect at Harrowton, doncha know.”

The wedding was a major social event of the season, and the list of attendees was quite extensive, as was the number of them of whom Harry professed intimate acquaintance with assorted orifices. So it took some time before Sidhu finally got around to reading out the announcement from Nykipiflugpuu.

“Hmm.” Harry inspected his appallingly empty glass; Sidhu moved discreetly to rectify the situation. “Ice racing. Sounds a scream, but a bit bloody parky?”

“I have packed warm coats, sir.”

“The blazes!? Well throw them out. Need to make more room for some emergency single malt if it’s to be chilly, wot ho.”

Sidhu never disagreed with his master, though the merest tremble of a single strand amid his bushy eyebrows betrayed his displeasure. “As you wish, sir. Even if you attend the trial in Aboveland, it may behove sir to place his advertisement anyway.”

“Hmm.” Harry did not like having to advertise his services like someone selling a used pair of shoes, but Sidhu had assured him that placing such a notice was a necessary measure. Harry shifted uneasily in his chair all the same; his six-and-a-half foot, well-muscled bulk caused a groan of complaint from the leather.

“Alright, damn and blast it, do it.”

“Very good sir.”

The following advertisement appears, as if by magic, reprinted in appropriate form, in the major newspapers/websites/etc. of all nations running WGP2 teams.

“Harry Zoomtwat. Gentleman, scholar, white hunter. Offers first-class driving services to any interested motoring team capable of offering suitable accommodation (and refreshments). Can bring own gun. Please respond c/o the Nord’s Club, 12, St. Jimbo’s Street, Londontown.”

A telegram confirms Harry will attend the test in Aboveland.
