UC getting back to their roots?
Teresa Bramlage
Daily News Football Writer

The University of the Commonwealth will open their sixth Mineral Conference campaign on the road, as they will travel to United Vietussia to face off against Vietussia Academy at the 55,000 seat Papa Vulcan Arena in Olgrad.

The Vulcans have not participated since that single season, which followed a two-year hiatus from NSCF; the matchup at Gleason Field on matchday 2 was UC's first ever multiverse victory as well as the beginning of the 18 game Mineral Conference home winning streak, which Head Coach Ryan Benton hope bodes well for the beginning of another similar run.

"First game out, we've not seen nearly enough video of them, which means we have to really be sharp in what we're doing straight from kickoff. Yeah, that coincidence that we are opening up against a team from back then (NSCF 18) is interesting, but it really isn't a factor."

Benton believes that a healthy Brandon Bullins running the offense is the key to improving on last season's disappointing 8-5 NSCF mark--the same record the Warriors posted in UAC play.

"With the way our defense has improved by leaps and bounds, keeping Brandon healthy will be one of the most important goals going forward. We also have targeted Donald (Key, backup QB) for more snaps, more reps with the first team. He's going to be the number one next summer, and I want this experience to pay dividends in November."

Another weapon who is expected to be a larger part of the offense is freshman Colton Brooks, the highly touted running back from Dunbar in southwestern Endover who was restricted to 54 snaps in total as a first year player; he will surely be involved much more frequently as the Mineral Conference campaign progresses.

Loyola-Istria Preview- Blue Thunder look to get back in the playoffs after a disappointing 8-6 campaign

Image
Loyola-Istria players at training camp

ISTRIA, MORAVICA- We have been waiting, and waiting, for the start of college football season. One of the most anticipated NSCF seasons in quite a while. It's as wide open as its ever been- Cold Hill are the defending champions, but any numbers of schools are chomping at their heels. The Blue Thunder seem down, but they are certainly not out. They responded to a disappointing 7-6 campaign by showing up to the Karmin-Falce Auto Bowl, and earning a 28-14 victory to finish the season on a positive note. And then, according to Ranorian recruiting experts, swept up the #1 overall recruiting class in the NSCF.

They are gunning for gold. There are two theories. One, is that last season was the start of a long-term downward trend. What most people, inside and outside the program will say, is that it was simply a blip. But who is right? We shall see soon enough.

Last Season Info
Conference Record: 6-4
Non-Conference Record: 1-2
Playoff Status: Did not qualify, First team out
Bowl Game: Won the Karmin-Falce Auto Bowl, 28-14, against UC-Baker Park

Quarterback

And now, for the Quarterback position! Chibuzo has led this team into battle for the past two seasons, taking the reigns from the bridge quarterback, Omar Jassey. He, like Jassey and Jawara before him, was a star quarterback. He was known as one of the top QBs in the Celestia. After four years, he earned his degree, and with a championship in hand from NSCF 21,the pros were coming to call. After the disappointment that was NSCF 22, however, he had originally announced that he would come back. But after talking with his parents, and an agent, he decided to go rpo.

Which left a QB battle to brew on campus. The first quarterback is the redshirt senior, Amadi Ikenna. He came onto campus the same time as Chibuzo, but Chibuzo beat him out. To his credit, he didn't leave- he spent all these years riding the bench as the third string guy, then behind Chibuzo as his backup. And now, as a redshirt senior, he went into camp with the inside track to start. But he had a competition with the redshirt freshman, Ebou Hairte. A blue chip prospect who's got all the arm talent in the world. He does lack the mobility you'd expect of a Loyola quarterback, though. After a fierce training camp battle, it was Ikenna who jogged onto the field for the first series in Loyola's lone preseason game against Akers.

It was a 34-7 road victory. Of course, in a preseason game, scoreline doesn't really matter- players who are even kind of hurt aren't playing, starters only play for a little bit, you do a bunch of situational football, etc... But even with all those caveats, Ikenna did look good. He led six drives before turning it over to Hairte, and the team had three touchdowns, a field goal, and a pair of punts. No turnovers. One passing touchdown himself, alongside ground touchdowns for van Geel and Senghore. The offense was able to consistently move the ball under his direction.

So they'll go with Ikenna. Alanso Isa has expressed confidence in the Senior. "He never complained. He was a third string for a year, sat for two years as a backup, and is ready for his shot. I expect great things out of him- he's worthy of being called a Loyola quarterback."

Rivalries- What the heck happened?

Of course, with NMU, in this section we covered coaching staff changes. But Isa, despite a disappointing season, did not make any major changes, keeping his coordinators in place, as well as his strength & conditioning coach. All in on the theory that last season was a blip. So here, we'll talk about rivalries.

Loyola-Istria went 0-5 in their rivalry games. It's hard to fathom. This is one of the biggest blue bloods in all of college football. But against their three primary rivals, across 5 games, they were outplayed in every single one. Who would have seen that coming? These teams, of course, are Richardson University, the Salamantics, and Northern. Situationally, in clutch situations, we could not pull through. Northern scored 28 against Loyola twice. Salamantics put up 24. But in those other two games where the defense stepped up, the offense stalled out entirely. 6 points in the first game against the Salamantics, only 7 in the regular season finale against Richardson.

"We understand this- if we want to get back to championship level, we need to start beating our rivals again." Alanso Isa said. "0-5 against our rivals is absolutely unacceptable. Including Felswyr State, if you look at it like this, you can say that against the four best teams we played, we were a combined 0-6. Also unacceptable. But last season is over. This is a new season. It'll start in practice. This year, we're going to change the way we do things. Constant competition. Constant accountability. It'll be a team wide effort- from the players, to the coaches, to hell, even our analysts."

They'll be tested early. Don't expect this team to give away everything in the playbook in their home opener, or in their trip to Northern Dinagat State. Their first big test, which they should enter 2-0(although there are no guarantees in this sport), will be the Salamantic Universities coming to campus. Their the defending conference champions. They're the big boys Loyola needs to beat. It'll be close, for sure- no meeting between these two would ever end in a blowout. But if Loyola can grind out a win, well, it'll show they've got more grit than last year's team, who got pummeled in one score games.

Key Players

So, who besides Ikenna is key for the Blue Thunder? Let's start with a name everyone should know- Khalil Hauptmann. The Ranorian wideout, physically, is impossible to stop. 6 foot 6 inches, at 219 pounds. He's a handful for any cornerback to handle. With a new quarterback, he's going to want a security blanket, and Hauptmann will quickly become his favorite target. "Look, he's one of those guys that's almost impossible to cover man to man." Said Loyola's offensive coordinator, Dennis Zervos. "He's gonna get open- it'll be our job to make sure we can get the ball his way. We throw it in his vicinity, and he'll have a good chance to come down with it every play."

Next, will be the passrushing EDGE players. Loyola picked up the #1 overall recruit out of Northwest Kalactin in Defensive End Justin Peterson, and the #1 overall player out of Ranoria, Abram Fairbanks. This young defense is not wasting anytime, and starting them on the opposite sides of the front 4 right away. "Look, you know how this team is built." Joseph Lukwago, the Defensive Coordinator, told us. "Score a bunch of points. On defense, put pressure on our opponents and be opportunistic. It's a winning formula. And the key to that is our ability to get pressure. Peterson and Fairbanks will have some growing pains, certainly. Every freshman does, as the tackles they go up against get bigger and stronger. But we're confident that this learning will be good for them, and it will be good for our defense for the short and long term." Translation- expect them to be catching their footing for the first few weeks, but then to really get going by midseason. If these two can consistently get pressure off the edge, the sky is the limit for the Blue Thunder.

Lastly, let's move to the secondary. We've got an interesting situation here. Alexander Ackermann, of Ranoria, has switched positions from cornerback to Free Safety. "This guy is very pacey and rangy- an elite athlete." Lukwago told us. "Putting him at free safety will take better advantage of his skillset, and his ability to help our defense." A great player, yes. What was left unsaid, is exactly how much that helps unclog the backup the Blue Thunder have at the cornerback position. It'll give Madue Ozoma a chance to start as well, as the team's #2 cornerback. It is not Ackermann, but the senior strong safety Markos Mesay who will lead this defense.

Prediction

Loyola's got to get back to the playoffs, right? They seem to be playing with a fire lit under them. And it's hard to take too much from a preseason game, but they look to be in form already on both sides of the football. Let's predict 11-2 and conference champions for them. They exact revenge on the Salamantics, sweeping them and going 9-1 in conference, losing away to Northern, Then, they'll also lose to Felswyr in non-conference play. We don't think they will win a championship this year though- give us a quarterfinal loss for the Blue Thunder.

It's all set. Rosters are set. Previews written. Which school will be crowned the champions of NSCF 23?

A team made up of recently graduated players who don't want to say the sport goodbye, but also aren't done with their academic careers. As they turn from undergrads to postgrads, they aren't allowed on the D-league (Development League) teams anymore - and that is where the Professors come in. The universities that host a D-league team have joined forces to allow their players to keep playing while pursuing their postgrads. Younger players are almost always given priority on this team, so most will be 21-22 years old. This is both because they are most likely to turn pro, and because the older players are more likely to concentrate fully on their studies.

A lot of gaps had to be filled, and the scouting apparatus was in full swing early on in the season. It's very hard to evaluate university players given there's no university-only league, and players are only expected to go professional after having played on the Professors (or not playing for the Professors at all), but the idea is that the roster is again full of players that aim to continue playing the sport after university.

Like every team that's made up of Ko-orenites from all over the country, this team is slightly defensive. The offence is somewhat experimental, with loads of unorthodox (and risky) formations. Nearly every play can be run from nearly every formation (at least, that's the philosophy), so plays and routes are remembered as a combination of [formation]+[pre-snap movement]+[post-snap play], making it all pretty flexible. There will be single wings, there will be lots of players lining up close to the offensive line. The backfield shouldn't be very crowded most of the time. The defence is tactical, intelligent, and are taught to be great communicators. Pressure can come from everywhere, linebackers are universally decent-to-good in coverage, so even safeties and corners can safely blitz every now and again.

A message from Katherine A. Parker, Athletic Director

It is my great privilege to communicate with everyone that our school, New Lakeland University, will be embarking on their first international football game later this evening. This is a historic moment not only for our institution, but for the entire nation. We are the first school within Cassadaigua to play at the international level in football, achieving something that not even places like the University of Concord Heights has done. I might be given some credit for making this happen, but we would not be here today if not for the support of our faculty. An international schedule means that the students will be spending less time in class as they spend more time traveling. This means the potential for loss of valuable classroom hours as they pursue their fields of interest. Fortunately, our esteemed faculty have pieced together an internet program to where the classroom sessions are recorded and our students can watch them while they are away. Therefore, they will not be left behind, and can spend the hours of the day that they have in hotel rooms in another country watching these videos instead of going out and getting involved in the potential distractions that can come about.

That was just the first step of making this happen. The next part was our student athletes themselves, in getting the commitment from them that they would continue to focus on their studies and to put academics above all else even when they are on the road. I trust their word that they will continue to excel in the classroom during this football competition. At New Lakeland University, we require that all students hold a minimum GPA of 2.0 or else they will not be able to continue their sporting endeavors until they get their GPA to that minimum. If you look at our football team, you will see that many of these kids are excelling in the classroom already and have GPA’s well above the minimum. I trust for those that may be a little closer to the cut line, that their peers on the team will be able to help them stay afloat, so that everyone can be successful. The University will not remove this minimum requirement at any time.

As a school, we have participated in the college basketball competitions as well, but things were a little different with that because the majority of the games come while the students are away at mid-semester break. We have used the same internet programs for them, but feel that with the football team, it is more important to have them because the season starts at about the same time the fall semester starts. Our basketball players have been able to maintain a balance of academics and athletics within the NSCAA, as evidenced by our championship three years ago. The football roster is much bigger than a basketball roster, however, so there is more of a need for the additional services that we will be offering.

Our home games will be taking place at the Stephanie H. Wiseman stadium. Of the 78,700 seats, we will reserve 4,000 for the student body that can be purchased at the Mitchell Hall box office during regular business hours. Tickets outside of those will go on sale to faculty and alumni only for a 24-hour period until they are opened up to the general public. Faculty and alumni interested in purchasing season packages should contact the stadium box office as soon as possible. Significantly reduced ticket prices will be available for students and faculty, and alumni will also see a fair reduced price from the general public price.

The first game that we play, as a member of the Woodlands Conference, will be home against Université St. Croix from Quebec. Bear in mind that we have opponents who are prepared for international play a little more than we are due to their experience, and this could be a factor in game results for a little while. Make no mistake, that I am confident that our Tycoons will blossom into a great program in college football, just like we have in basketball!

We sit here on the even of yet another NSCF season and now wonder what will come in the forthcoming months as teams from across the gridiron world have their best university teams play for the right to call themselves champions. Unlike last season where there were a lot of question marks about how good the pair of representatives from the Empire would do, having moved conferences during the offseason and having had questions about continued participation, there is now a lot more certainty and confidence about the two schools representing the Vanorian cause. This is of course helped in large parts to the achievements that both schools were able to accomplish last season, although one definitely did severely outperform the other, there is no question that both teams were able to give a good account of themselves and convince the VSC that their continued presence in this competition was worth the investment into the programs. Success on and off the field and good representation of who and what the Empire is has always been the priority for the VSC and both the Rockets and Raiders were able to achieve that last season, the task now becomes in sustaining that success and standard across multiple seasons.

Let us start with the Rockets of Raynor University, who will enter into season with a certain swagger about themselves after they were able to put together a conference winning record last season and able to get into the semifinals, before being bested late on by old Big Eight rivals of Cold Hill. On top of that on the field success, the University was able to land a very good running back out of Ranoria, Duke Beckett, who looks to be the long term replacement to Aleksander Aas, though he starts the season second on the depth chart but the coaches are running out of superlatives to describe the back's talent and we are likely to see him getting the starting job sooner rather than later. Speaking of starters, the Rockets return nineteen of their twenty-two starters from last season, with the biggest one being the star player of the team at wide receiver, Chinweuba Jelan. Make no mistake, Jelan is the star of this team and after the performance he put against Squidbreak in the playoffs last year, it is clear that the young man has greatness about him and can explode for a dominating game at any moment.

Moving on to the schedule, it starts off as easy as they get at this level with the Rockets playing host to new conference members Stevan Vaalburger Academy from Allamunnic States. Getting to start the season in front of a packed Vahalla Falls will definite be a good boon for the Rockets who will be wanting to retain their conference title. The round robin schedule is fairly nice to the Rockets this season, not having any back to back weeks of away games, but the season is a bit backloaded with the Rockets traveling to last season darlings of Bowerstone, hosting the Raiders, before finishing the season out on the road at the traditional conference powerhouse of Ceneisis. Though their are rumors that the Fleftic Naval Academy is on the decline, there is a lot of history and pedigree there and it would be unwise for anyone to go into Ceneisis and expect to come out with a victory. The Rockets will be hoping that two games at home before the trip to Mar Sara in week four will have them at three wins out of three before the first battle for Vanorian dominance. Wanting to challenge themselves to get ready for those difficult playoff matches, if the season plays out to a second consecutive conference title as the Rockets hope, the team will be hosting the mighty Loyola-Istria in week eleven, as well as Akers in week twelve, before finishing the season out at Salamantic of Ko-oren. Getting two wins from that out of conference slate will signal to the Rockets staff that this seasoned team would truly be ready for a title run in the playoffs.

Then we come to Mar Sara Tech, a side who looks to be in the middle of a rebuilding project with only two returning starters on their offense this season, with the entire offensive line graduating from the program. That means that true freshman Jelani Emeka from Banija will be starting, with head coach Sander Ivarsson deciding that the versatile lineman start at left tackle. He is not the only freshman from Banija who is starting, as Kawsu Gaye won out the position battle for slot receiver during the summer training program, meaning that the Raiders will have three starters on offense from our northeastern neighbors. Luckily for the Raiders, their two returning starters are quarterback Arquímedes Concepción and running back Kiggwe Chasima. Last season Arquímedes Concepción was asked to be just a game manager as a true freshman starter, now with a season under his belt, Ivarsson is likely going to open the playbook more and let his quarterback show what he can do with both his arms and legs. The offense runs through Chasima though, as he is the senior leader on the side and the best player on the team, if the Raiders are going to make it to the playoffs for a second straight season, Chasima is going to have to have a senior season to remember.

Unlike Raynor who got fortunate with their schedule for the round robin, the Raiders got the short end of the stick in several ways, including two occurrences in the season of having back to back away games, meaning the middle and stretch runs of the season are not going to be easy to navigate at all. To make that matter worse their schedule is frontloaded, with a visit from Therisnogodistan to open up conference play, before a trip to Bowerston and then hosting Ceneisis and Raynor in back to back weeks. It could be very possible that the Raiders will have two losses by the time they play up against the Rockets in the battle for Vanorian supremacy, then with trips to Ceneisis and Raynor in the second half of conference play, it is going to be a gauntlet that the team will have to run. With such an inexperienced offense, the team is going to have to rely big on a defense that has several upper classmen leaders to carry them through the conference part of the schedule. With a trip to Trent State before hosting Université St. Croix and then Sadeg State in the traditional regular season finale, the out of conference is not much easier. This team is good enough to make it into the postseason, however it is not clear if the side is good enough for that to be in the playoffs or in a bowl. Week two will be when that question begins to get answered and how well they will contend with last season's dark horse of Bowerstone.

It's NSCF time baby

Image
Byron Joseph took major strides last season can we compete for the Big Eight title this season?

Kohnhead City University had an absolutely outstanding debut season in the Nation States College Football season going all the way to the NSCF 22 Semifinals before a 19-3 loss in Chromatika to fellow newcomer Felswyr State University who went on to lose in the finals. The team they lost in the finals to is none other than Cold Hill University one of the other schools in our very own Big Eight Conference and a team that went 2-0 against us last season with neither match being particularly close. We will be taking a look at some questions regarding the roster and what it can do.

When looking at this team the thing that jumps out first is obviously the quarterback position and the questions here are more about the future than the present. We know Byron Joseph will be the starter this season and while we don't know how much better he will be in the air, improvement is expected after seeing him work on that all offseason and seeing him look good in the spring. Do we go after a quarterback who fits this system in recruiting either a foreigner or a Kohnheadian or do we roll the dice on Anthony Newhouse?

Herman Whitworth was a machine last season as a freshman and his injury is a major reason why we struggled against FSU both times we played them. Whitworth is fully recovered and showed this in limited snaps at the World Bowl, is he ready to carry the offense again? KCU fans were quite happy when we landed Chromatikan Rowena Hastroff to serve as his backup. We know she will see lots of touches given the system but how much of an upgrade will she be over Brandon Potter who was solid but unspectacular for us last season.

The receiving core however has more questions than either the quarterback position or the running back position with Albie Terry the number 1 out of town having graduated. The big question will be the role of Kalu Alazar who Kohnhead City surprisingly got out of Banija to be our number 1 receiver from day one. He should work well with Byron Joseph especially in the short passing game where he is known to excell but will his production be limited by our offensive style? In addition can we unlock Jodi Lawrence as a deep threat after she experienced an injury filled sophmore campaign. And lastly what will be the role of Keith Gray the absolute speed demon with 4.27 speed, we know he projects to be the starting guy in the slot next season but what is his role this season? Do we put him on return duties where he would most certainly excel and do we create plays to put the ball in his hands in space, it will be interesting to see how the offense uses him.

Next up we switch over to the defensive side of the ball and look at the front four an area that was so good for us last season yet lost three of four starters and didn't land any foreign recruits to help fill the void. However we did land a big foreign talent in transfer Derek Rivers who will be leaving a talented Richardson defensive line to become a starter here in Kohnhead City alongside top Kohnheadian prospect in Robert Lawrence who was one of the top Kohnheadian recruits not to go to a foreign school. At tackle Albie Snow obviously remains but aside from him there's some serious questions, Lauren Beech is the currently listed starter and she played decent as a rotational piece last season. Grant McManis provides hope for the future but I doubt he can beat Beech out this season.

The other big question mark on the defensive side rests in the corner group who lost our top two corners as they were both seniors. While Zion Irving outplayed both Anne Boyer and Erika Preston he did so from the slot and the undersized man is now moving outside to try and stop #1 receivers, if he's undersized against Kohnheadians then imagine how he looks compared to a Drawkian when we take on Sadeg State. Harlen Gill played on special teams as a freshman and will be the other corner on the outside with freshman Finn Steele taking over the slot. Corner will definitely be a weakness for us putting more pressure on the dynamic safety duo of Klein and Norman to carry the secondary.

Swisston City are ready to show the World they also belong in the NSCF

Unlike last year where Kohnhead only had one team competing in the NSCF in Kohnhead City whom the entire nation rallied around, this time we will have a second school as the Swisston City Army Knives are set to join Kohnhead City in the Big EIght for their inagural season. Swisston City are a very different team from their counterparts in Kohnhead City and in joining a stacked conference I really see no feasible path into the playoffs for them. Swisston City will probably have to try and settle for a spot in the Pioneer Bowl for newcomers which could be difficult with another potential newcomers including conference counterparts Lismore Christian, TJUN-ian school Trent State, and New Lakeland from Cassadaigua the three other notable new teams.

Last year the Big Eight barely got three teams into the playoffs with Richardson squeaking in by committee decision as the 12 seed while Cold Hill and Kohnhead City were the two and the four. If Swisston want to make the playoffs they will need to beat out one of those three teams which I just can't see happening aside from the fact that Akers is also lurking around as a potential dark horse candidate. Still Swisston City are ready to show the world that their air raid offense can work at this level and they can contend this season despite the odds that are stacked against them.

Ultimately as an offensive based team it will come down to whether Diego Rodriguez can run the air raid offense in the way that they want him to with four receivers, lots of throwing and a necessity to read defenses. We know he has the arm strength to get it done and has been compared to Jackson Watford in his pretty decent scrambling ability.

The receiving core will be led by the possession and catch machine in William Carey who is good at 50-50 balls and has very good hands. Kristy Swift is the classic boundary receiver with some speed and a deep threat potential and Cresswell and Ball will be operating on the inside both very good at route running. Rodriguez in his first year as a starter will need to develop rhythms with them and hopefully has already done so during practice and camp.

On defense the strength should be in the three seniors starting at linebacker with the rest of the team being pretty eh although the defensive line group is really young and has the potential to grow. The secondary has some experience and won't be a weakness like the d-line but I could see some very good teams in the air like Cold Hill and potentially Richardson easily picking on it.

Overall I'm predicting a 5-8 record for this team which will probably not be enough to get into the Pioneer Bowl with one win against Akers, a sweep of LCC, and a victory against one of Trent State or New Lakeland with an addition fluke victory in somewhere maybe against Kohnhead City or Richardson. Regardless the home opener against Akers should be a good test for this team as Akers are a pretty decent team although not expected to be a playoff team before they travel to Kohnhead City for the rivalry match.

THE PRIDE

Université St. Croix : A Factfile.

Motto: '成人材之未就 均風俗之不齊'
Established: 1643
Type: Public research university
Location: Québec City, Capitale-Nationale, Québec and Shingoryeo
Religious affiliation: Non-denominational
Endowment: Q£ 21.3 billion (2041)
Chancellor: Armand Lee-Durkheim
Vice-Chancellor: Eleonore Davenport
Academic Staff: 4,765
Students: 22,363
Undergraduates: 13,115
Postgraduates: 9,248

It has taken a decade for Université St. Croix to come back to the NSCF after a decadelong absence, and the Bleu et Blanc are looking forward to keep up their ascent after their successful return two years ago. Being located at the St. Croix district, just ten minutes metro ride away from the renowned Quartier Calanien, the hub of student life, bistros and related academic establishments, St. Croix students, the faculty, the alumni and the Capitoliens all across the Multiverse welcome the fans across the Multiverse.

In terms of collegiate athletics, the Bleu et Blanc are consistently among the most successful in most sports the athletics department sponsor team/individual participation, with their particular strengths in gridiron, Women's basketball, both association footballs, Men's volleyball and fencing teams. Among them, most fans both home and abroad know the Bleu et Blanc football team the best, for they have not only won the second most number of national championships, but have made their mark as every capitolien's true blue in college football. This year was a yet solid year for the Bleu et Blanc program, with a couple of national championships won in Women's footy and an expected deep run for both fencing championships, and football did come close where they secured themselves another top 5 finish after a NY6 bowl win even after large graduation of its players.

As for the university itself, Université St. Croix is renowned for its particular strengths in most fields, but in particular the humanities and social sciences, which has been renowned for its bred and butter. Its Faculty of Arts and Sciences, especially fuelled by all of its eighteen colleges, is funded with consistency and high rates of trust and confidence by the Quebecois Government, who do take particular interest in the university and its students. It is perhaps destined from the university's origin into the 1640s (it is 2047 in Quebec right now), with St. Croix being the nation's only university for the first 120 years of the history. In 1648, the Quebecois Government had built the Seonggyoongwan, eventally the Seonggyoongwan Faculty of Arts and Science of the University itself, with both theological and practical trainings emphasised to prepare its students and alumni into civil service. Since then, as the university was renamed St. Croix in dedication of the St. Croix plains the university campus was built upon and took upon more imperial, comprehensive identity, the Université St. Croix has stood as the pinnacle of postsecondary education in not only Quebec and Shingoryeo, but also the Quebecois Commonwealth as well.

This edition of Bleu et Blanc football team is slightly unusual even by the Quebecois standards, as they once again return a squad for the second straight time without a single foreign student-athlete, and this included a couple of unfortunate turns with their recruiting in South Detroit. One can argue otherwise, however, in that the Bleu et Blanc had chosen to focus more on getting the best domestic recruits out there, with them topping the recruiting class rankings for the first time in eleven years. The most promising recruits this cycle, both of whom have done stellar job for the Bleu et Blanc this year, were Right Tackle Arabella Park and Strong Safety Oswald Tak. Both of them were playing on the positions that the Bleu et Blanc were at their strongest this season, and this has caused the head coach, Kweon Joon-Ho, to feel much excitement over the matter. 'We have a clear identity with what we want in terms of gameplanning, and how we should run the game. There is no doubt that we do have strong offensive line, and a strong back seven that includes several national team members. I aim to keep our goals high and keep that in mind, in hopes of stopping the opponents.' Coach Kweon said.

On the other parts of the team, there were a couple of noticeable stars the fans have come to take notice- the monster-like edge rusher in Theshendan Aravossitas-Tamauskas III was one of the pleasant surprises with 12 sacks in 10 games he had played, including two fumbles he had generated on the Remembrance Bowl victory over St-Gabriel-Richard Wolverines last December, while its stable of senior year running backs in Baek Doo-Gwan and Vincent Faïnicka had excellent seasons that they were expected. So much for the glaring holes with the turnovers, one could say.

Still, one cannot help but to argue that this St. Croix team has enough risks ahead, as it enters the NSCF with a young squad, meaning that the players would have to be quickly programmed and ready for the Spring football, especially in hopes of a potential playoff spot. Partly due to the lack of redshirting available in the university's athletics department, Kweon's program is expected to be careful with potential injuries that may occur during the season. While there are three positions many are concerned about the B&B, the one most noticeable is at quarterback, where none of Han, McAslett-Thurgood, and Campeau have done much to really stand out during the Spring camp. One cannot help but to say that can be particularly hurting in the NSCF, especially given how high-powered some of the non-conference opposition is going to be, and also given that they will be expected to face Saguenay's Donovan O'Mara, the likely Hector Kweon Award winner (OOC: Quebecois equivalent of Heisman or Hec Creighton trophies) by the end of his time with Fighting Irish. Will the Bleu et Blanc be able to shed off their greeneries even further and find answers in spots where they had missed out on national semifinals? We'll see.

As for the institution itself, Université du Saguenay (official known as Université du Saguenay à South Bend) is considered one of the best universities in Quebec, in particular for its undergraduate education. While excellent across the board, Saguenay is in particular renowned for its world-renowned Cavani School of Business, Lawrence A. Gong School of Architecture, and humanities programs. The university is also renowned for the need-blind admissions policy, as well as its ability to meet 100% of a student’s demonstrated financial need- something that only 5 Québécois institutions can proudly say so.

The university's unique culture, that promotes both the scientific knowledge and religious education, results in the school and its alumni network (only rivalled by St. Croix and Farrer) having close ties to the Québécois elite, in both Saguenay province and those in Montreal the economic capital and Quebec City the artistic and administrative capital of Québec. The Sagueneen elite of both Catholic and Buddhist denominations, seeing the need of a classical institution in Saguenay without having to travel to Québec City, built UdS in considered the capital of Quebecois traditional culture and folk traditions in 1792. Since then, Université du Saguenay has been a centre of Quebecois Religious Thought and also the Quebecois Thought. Atlantian Oceania is a region notable for its centrist political scene with penchant for hereditary power, and Quebec is among them, for its leftist leaning is partly contradicted by long history of purging republicanism - with the most recent purge happening just eight years ago (2034). This thought has partly influenced the Fighting Irish to stand out, as UdS and the Saguenay province are considered the baton of Classical Quebecois Conservatism.

Replacing Kweon Joon-Ho, extremely seasoned offensive coordinator and Quarterback whisperer who took his opportunity to manage the Bleu et Blanc two years ago (OOC note: this happened right after the end of QIS season, but before the NSCF 22 season), was going to be a challenge of its, but it seemed as if the Saguenay Machine had carried on naturally. Fortunately, Mario Chun-Kim did not disappoint in his two seasons since, having delivered an Apple Bowl victory on his first season back, and coming very close to a comeback victory on the Tiger Bowl match his second year as OC. Running with true freshman Donovan O'Mara, the son of Accardolan legend Jack who was also named the number 1 overall Quebecois prospect out of nearby Gyeongbuk Collegiate, and a dominant offensive line that gave him all the time in the world, Saguenay Fighting Irish finished their season 12-2 (regular season: 11-1), with their sole losses coming against Queen's College midseason and the Northwestern Marauders at what was near-comeback for the Fighting Irish from 3 possessions down at halftime.

Of course, putting true freshman out on field was a risk for both O'Mara and Chun-Kim, who knew he did not have as much explosiveness out of his backfield as he would have preferred. But Chun-Kim's ability to produce excellent offensive linemen and tight ends, as well as O'Mara's excellent game management skills, did help them push through the near-comeback where the victor was outshadowed by the rookie and the vet, and at least a valiant tale for those in South Bend to look forward to for next three more QIS seasons (and two more for NSCF as well).

Sure, the freshmen quarterback may have gotten all the flashes but we cannot ignore all the other key contributors in the team as well. Donovan Nimischuuch (the no. 2 Donovan), Michelle Bahng and Raymond Hong, all matured and ready to head into the QFL after a strong spring ball season, were centring what's a well-run offensive line. Alphade Smythe-MacKinnon, younger of the Smythe-MacKinnon brothers on the Saguenay-St. Croix rivalry, has stepped nicely as the leader among the men while Hamza Nam-Haji are viewed by many as a possible number one overall selection with his rotation of spin moves to strip sack a quarterback. Yoo-Ra Seo-Yi is an excellent safety with her own island as well.

This season, Saguenay Fighting Irish once again comes back with a strong squad and excellent depth all in all. Sure, the Fighting Irish do lack star receivers, but the group of starters they have there and certainly Tight Ends, where they have sophomore Charles Dion-Maranda and senior Sebastian Prieto, know what they are doing. If they outlast the expectations, these guys would be the key reasons for proving the detractors wrong.

The defensive unit, while not as strong as usual years, is still a stout one. Arianne Goh, in her second year as the defensive coordinator, has decided to become more aggressive with his unit, and the results have seen divided results. Some, especially in the front seven, have seen successes, but the secondaries (but Yoo-Ra Seo-Haji) may need to play better. Their weakness against the pass, especially the shorter ones some of their NSCF opponents have employed since last cycle, is still a matter of concern, and that once again will place these guys into test this spring.

As for special teams, they are solid. No more, no less- expect them to do the job and make most kicks within high 40s, but expecting Nam to score a 60-yarder may be a stretch.

At Fillydelphia International Airport, days before NSCF is scheduled to start.

"Alright ya ingrates," head coach Arthur Masterson (whom had been left off the team's roster for mysterious reasons) addressed the gaggle assembled before him. "Flight boards in an hour square, y'all have a little time to wander but everyone is back at the gate in thirty minutes sharp, capice?"

Nods came from all the players, with varying levels of conviction. Arthur caught the eye of one of the lest enthused nodders. "That includes you too, Southward. I can't keep you from hitting up a bar but I can kick your flank if you ain't on time."

"Yeah yeah coach, I get it," the pony muttered. "Can't risk being late to visit scenic Grey County."

Natalie, his freshmen receiving partner, audibly gasped. "I think you mean late to our chance at the big time!"

"Big time shmig time, rook. Some of us have been playing in front of millions for years. And there ain't gonna be eyes on this matchup, everyone thinks we're both gonna be the bottomfeeders of the conference."

Tzeench finally took their hand of their chin, the sign that the ever-contemplative QB was finally ready to speak up. "Nah, she's got a point, Moss. We might be playing for millions here, but there's like, billions out there watching NCSF. And I don't think I need to get one of the Econ guys to explain the difference between a million and a billion again."

Viktor's head shot up, his momentary doze interrupted. "Oh fuck yeah, I LOVE explaining that shit."

"Please," Moss plead, "please just shut the fuck up, Viktor."

Tzeench cleared their throat. "As I was saying, even if this is ain't a big ticket game we're still gonna be on the highlight reels all over the multiverse. This is a real opportunity to get our names out there, to make a HUGE impression. We gotta take this shit seriously."

"Alright alright, y'all got a point," Moss shrugged as he hopped to his hooves. "I'm still gonna go get some fuckin' beer."

Quentin shot to his feet. "I'll drink to that."

OOC: This post was posted under Commissioner account and not my main, Quebec and Shingoryeo, since it is announcing the winner of NSCF 22 Awards.

The NSCF House, Quebec City, Quebec and Shingoryeo

Dexter Ahn did his best to keep himself from being nervous, as he slowly waited in line. Even after fifteen years of record-breaking career for the future Quebecois Hall of Famer, who was the darling of the Quebec City with his brand of excellence (OOC: imagine if Peyton Manning had played for Dallas Cowboys and won 4 Super Bowls there), and being around on almost every sporting and social circuit, the Saguenay alumnus was still feeling nervous.

'Here we go, starting by announcing the awards,' he swallowed a glass of water as the NSCF interim Commissioner prepared to announce the NSCF 22 Awards before dozens of journalists at the NSCF House. The NSCF, having missed out on the deadline due to various reasons we all knew but just shrugged along, decided to announce the awards from two years ago the night before the first weekend of the NSCF 23 season were to start this weekend. The True North Sports, who have always broadcasted the NSCF from the very first cycle St. Croix had joined over fifty years ago, knew that many googly eyes were going to watch it to set themselves up for a football-filled weekend, so they couldn't help but to give even more spotlights to Dexter Ahn, their new commissioner.

'Three...two...one...' the Production Assistant counted down the last seconds, before Dexter went into the stage. There were a massive round of applause, as the journalists from both home and abroad greeted the Fighting Irish legend with standing ovation. This then was followed up by ten seconds of silence, as Dexter quietly gathered his breath, before announcing the Awards winners...

Cavsar Chronicle: Second NSCF Season Underway!

Second NSCF Season Underway!
Cavsar football returns to the international stage with higher hopes

Hello there, and welcome to the Cavsar Chronicle! Today we'll be looking at the Gladiators' second foray into the NationStates College Football season. In a surprise move, DISC and the two Drawkian schools have decided to start competing in the NSCF on a yearly basis rather than every other year, so we get all the action every year now! Exciting! This does mean we'll be missing out on the standard DOCA college football season for as long as we're in the NSCF, but it may be worth it. The chance to not only compete for personal and college pride, but national pride too? It's a big, big deal.

If you don't remember last season, here's a quick recap! Cavsar University, in their first NSCF ever, went 6-4 in their conference. They only lost to Sadeg State (both times) and Felswyr State, the undefeated conference champion (both times). They beat the teams they were supposed to beat, had a solid out of conference outing. While it wasn't enough for a playoff berth, we got what we were looking for: a Pioneer Bowl berth. No other Drawkian team has even played in the Pioneer Bowl before us (Drawk Corps U undershot it, Sadeg State overshot it), so it was a big deal. We had to win the Bowl title, and Ravencroft University were the only wons in our way. We won it handily, and took home Drawkland's first (and maybe only!) NSCF Pioneer Bowl title.

This season, we hoped to run to even higher heights. With the first-season jitters gone, and a year of experience under our belts, we'd have a way better time getting acclimated to the NSCF atmosphere. 6-4 is a baseline to expand from, not just fall back on season after season. Sadeg State beat defending champion Ramusok Capital to win the conference in their first season, surely we could pull off an equally impressive conference championship in our second season. I'm not expecting this of course, but it's merely something within the realm of possibility that nobody should discount.

Our conference schedule is pretty frontloaded. We've got an extended road trip to start, at Sadeg State and at Hoofstra. Our home opener is against the reigning conference champions in Felswyr State. Then we get another away game to Laneca, and an extended home stand, with Rickendor, Sadeg State, and Hoofstra here in Cavsar for three straight weeks. We then have arguably the toughest game of the conference, away at Felswyr State. The conference stage ends with the two cupcakes, vs Laneca and at Rickendor Central. Once again, we should be getting at least 5 wins automatically, and we could threaten to get more easily.

The out of conference stage can go either way. For the higher level teams, these could be considered cupcakes, but for us they could threaten to be serious matchups. First we have a road game against Lismore Christian, a Kalactanian newcomer to the Big 8. We end the season with two home games, against Trent State (TJUN-ia) and New Lakeland (Cassadaigua). All of these squads are midmajor at best right now, but this could be a breakout season for any of these guys (like us)! This slate could go 3-0, but I don't see it going 0-3. Either way these should be some fun games, either in close, finger tingling shootouts, or in Cavsar flexing their newfound might with ease.

With only a couple roster changes, the team as a unit should be pretty cohesive and similar to last year. There are a few players expected to break out this season, so I'm gonna highlight a few of them for you here.

Super Senior Quarterback Seb Rosario has been the face of Cavsar for the last two seasons, and he's really starting to blossom into both a better passer and runner. It's not for certain how high he'll get drafted for the GLD once he graduates this season, but it's anybody's guess. Some insist he's a top-five-pick talent, while others are sure he'll go undrafted. Either way, this season is paramount for both his future hopes and our game performance. Cavsar may be ultra-aggressive, but we live and die by an effective lightning-fast run game. Rosario's legs have to be in top notch condition for us to effectively keep defenses on their heels.

Sophomore Mike Banks, our Top 50 recruit from two seasons ago, really shined last year despite being a true freshman. While our current super senior starter, Deon Beverly, has been
a solid option as well, he mostly got his starting position last year due to seniority. Banks was much more effective as a runner, though this could be attributed to his infrequent amount of snaps (defenses didn't know what to expect), or less workload (more fresh when he did get snaps). This season I wouldn't be surprised if Banks split the carries 50/50 with Beverly, or even eclipses Beverly as the starter. Then we'll be able to see what he does as a featured back, and if he's the real deal or just benefitted from scheming last season. This season will absolutely decide how Banks's career will be remembered for the rest of his life.

Our receivers have no true veteran presence. With the big duo from last season, Lev Reymundo and Reggie Monroe, both graduating, the oldest player on the team is now lower senior Joe Johan. The rest of the receivers are all juniors or younger. An inexperienced group, perhaps, but they could develop into a terror for opposing defenses in a couple of years, with proper training. The oldest presence in the whole receiving core is Graham Cornell, the super senior tight end, and even he's more of a blocking tight end than a receiver.

Speaking of tight ends ... I'm really excited to see Jonathan Kimbrough in action again this season. Like Mike Banks, Kimbrough was a Top 50 recruit who debuted as a true freshman last season. Unlike Banks though, Kimbrough got instant snaps from Week 1. As I mentioned earlier, the senior Cornell is more of a blocker than a receiver. The previous TE we had was Eller Jonson, who was a pretty good receiver. Cavsar has really leaned on their tight ends to help propel the passing offense, so a good receiving TE is exactly what we need to stay in an upward trend. Last season, Kimbrough fit right into the role, and racked up receiving yards that looked more akin to elite WRs. This season, now with more experience in the scheme and trust from the coaching staff, he's sure to pick up where he left off and then some.

Our entire defensive line is going to be monstrous this season. Three of the starters are in their final season as Gladiators. Ends Jarod Millard and Martin Kay, and Nose Tackle Trey Beasley, have already established themselves as both fearsome individuals and a cohesive unit, so their final season together is sure to be a nightmare for opposing offenses. Plus, brother DTs Steve and Dmitri Venner are both lower seniors, who make a brutal 1-2 punch, and are known to swap snaps. Their slightly different playstyle, but nearly identical builds, can be a challenge for opposing linemen just in itself.

The biggest problem for opposition in the secondary will be lower senior Strong Safety Tristan Wilks, who has proved his worth both in tackling and in pass coverage. His especially good blitzing mechanics are a double nightmare for opposing teams, since Cavsar doesn't pull blitzers out of the secondary very often. You won't realize he's in the backfield until the opposing QB is already on his back. Ultimately, despite not being the oldest in the unit, Wilks will be commandeering the secondary all season.

Finally, junior kick/punt returner Ozzy Otten looks like he's finally starting to turn the corner. It's common for many Drawkian college teams to recruit a touted athlete to be their pure kick/punt returner and not play any field positions. Otten came in as a true freshman and got many snaps since our backup transferred out that offseason and the main returner graduated. His first season was pedestrian, but last season his cuts were snappier, downfield movement quicker, and afterburners more potent. This season, teams will have to start actually learning his name. It won't be hard to recognize him though - he wears #00, to match his initials (and his unique position as a special teams returner only).

Moving back to the present day, our matchup against Sadeg State in Skyhawks Gridiron Park was last night. I have a lot of thoughts about it, especially since I attended the game in person. I'll save this for another time though, as I could fill up many articles with my thoughts and experience at this big Week 1 rivalry matchup. See you all soon. Go Glads!

COLLEGE FOOTBALL SATURDAY

Welcome to College Football Saturday.

Squidbreak 57. Syracuse State 3. We don't know what the hell happened down at the Takanori Army Base, but we do know one thing. These new starters, led by quarterback Ernesto Jankowski, might just be better than Zlatan and company to force out a freaking fitty-bomb. That's what we called scoring 50 points on an opponent here in Squidroidia. And yet, this wasn't even the biggest blowout to kick off the college football season! Looking at you, Kohnhead City! Goodness cod we seem to be worried about the Squidhead Cup more than anything...

SYRACUSE STATE |0 |0 |3 |0 |3
SQUIDBREAK |14 |14 |14 |15 |57

It was still a dominant performance by the Squidbreak to kick off the season, scoring 2 touchdowns per quarter with extra point attempts all good, including a cheeky 2 point conversion in the 4th quarter. It would be Olek Herczog getting his first touchdown of the season to kick off this absolute route as he caught a 12 yard reception from Jankowski to make the score 6-0. But this was the defense's time to play more than anyone's! Aðalsteinn Landolfi jumped up and picked the ball away from the Tundra tight end for their first pick, one which they converted into a running TD by Chris Landi to make it 14-0.

And from there the Squidbreak's train didn't stop. In the second quarter Jankowski sneaked his way to the endzone from the 2 yard line to end any hopes of the upstart Syracuse State causing an upset against the 16th best team in college football according to preseason rankings* by making it 21-0. Before the first half ended, however, the defense would waltz their way to a pick 6 as the Tundra were found out on their 15 yard line, with Jakob Garrastazu taking the ball and coasting it to the end zone. Halftime, Squidbreak 28, Syracuse State... 0.

Syracuse State did have room to punch in a field goal due to the Squidbreak sliiightly letting go of the throttle, but after that they were silent. The second half saw more action from both sides of the ball - Interceptions by Dioli and Jerome were highlights of the defense, but they certainly weren't Garrastazu's pick 6 either. In the 3rd quarter alone Jonny Hermansson went on a thundering run to make the Squidbreak's 5th touchdown only worth 5 or so plays as he cruised to a 50 yard reception, while Jankowski got the scoreline to 42-3 with a 10 yard run to the endzone. 4th quarter? More of the same, with Hermansson getting another TD for himself as well as... A 2 point conversion! The scoreline was 49-3 but what with Shea MacLean's legs getting a bit tired (He kicked SEVEN extra points!) maybe a 2 point conversion would be good enough! Go ask Kalidas MacDonald and his strong arms. A huge win to kick off the season, even though Syracuse State is only a newcomer.

And hey, maybe we can do it again against the Vulcans! Another cupcake team to boost our scorelines...

*Teams not in the NSCF this season are not included in the preseason rankings for Squidroidia's sake.

NSFB: Positives Taken In Feathercap Debut

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:26 am

The stage was set at Sherwood Field for the first international football game ever played out outside of the Amerika Peninsula. The stands were packed to see this new era of TJUN-ian football begin as the Trent State Feathercaps prepared to make their NSCF debut in front of the home crowd that Notts could produce. Unlike the American-style crowds you may see in New Washington, the crowds here in Europa are more accustomed to European fan culture and the traditions of that style. That was the atmosphere facing this historic game as the Species of Yesopalitha all arrived to take us on for Opening Day. They hailed from Freedom's Altar University and they called themselves the Flames, a team with a more-defensive playbook than the one Johnny Bridgeford has come up with for this season. With all that set up, let's see how TSU got on in its first-ever international game!

What happens when you put two defensive teams together and let them fight? That's right, a defensive game! That is what would play out here in the Horseshoe and the QB duel between Gareth Baldwin and Asanai was certainly a siege out there. The game would be a tight one out there and if there were any new fans out in the stands tonight, then they would be treated to an epic contest full of defensive stands and not many points on the board. TSU certainly tried to make the most of the occasion and they would be the one to score the first points in this contest, Baldwin finding Victor Que-et-Vous for 15 yards. Clayton McGee would get his opportunity to get the extra point, but that just missed the uprights just about - 6-0 Feathercaps. But the Flames would come back soon enough in this contest and Asanai would find Jatila Otox for the score - but the kicker in Ukler also missed his first attempt at the uprights, making the scores 6-6 at half time.

The second half would see more from both offences as they realised how big an opening day victory would be in terms of a good showing this season. The Flames would strike once again with Asanai just running in for the score, Otox making his 2nd attempt and the game now 13-6. TSU certainly would try for the tieing TD for most of the 3rd quarter but the Freedom's Altar defence was certainly a tight unit to try and breach for a while. Then, just at the start of the 4th, TSU found their score as Baldwin found quick-as-hell Fremont Whitehorse for the 37-yard bomb. McGee made the kick and we tied at 13-all, a position no team wanted to be in at all. The offensive coordinators of Pierre Grandestois and Lenai Isahan would certainly try to end this tie but their defensive counterparts in Alehandro Martinez and Shtrlli just weren't having that at all. The tie stayed put meaning that, in Trent State's first game of NSCF Football, we headed to overtime. The Flames won the toss and went first, taking 6 points via Soga Hopp but with no kick to show, things were interesting. But the Flames' D took over, Kalis in particular, and there would be nowhere to go for poor Gareth Baldwin. The first game goes to Freedom's Altar and the Feathercaps start at 0-1.

While the result certainly wasn't the best, this team certainly showed some upside in its first-ever game in this series and definitely could rise to the occasion in the coming weeks. Bridgeford certainly tried his best and so did the team but in the end, we just came short. WE need to learn the lessons from the one and move onto our first road game, against the University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park and their Warriors in Jacob F Gleason Field. Good signs, but certainly stuff to improve on. Welcome to College Football! WE ARE! TRENT STATE!

What did Lismore do to deserve this?
Image
The Mighty Eagles dominanted in their week one win showing their run last season may not have been a fluke

Kohnhead City last year had a stretch where they scored 119 points over two games to have the two highest scores of the season crushing Akers and Northwest Ballina two schools out of Northwest Kalactin. Well apparently crushing schools from Northwest Kalactin is something we like doing as we hung a 70 burger on them scoring 74 points in a 74-17 victory that is the highest scoring game since before Kohnhead City joined the NSCF and showed that this team has not lost a step from last year.

We would win the toss and called heads with Chicken King Stadium hyped to be hosting our home opener here on Saturday afternoon. Keith Gray was ready to return the kick the freshman out of Northwest Kalactin ready to take on a school from his homeland started us off with a bang and a big kick return to bring it to the 40 yard line. From that moment on it seemed as if we could do no wrong, Herman Whitworth and our offensive line dominating a defensive line that looked overmatch.

For our offense the tackle position is one to watch with Ross moving over to Watford's blindside and Gott the Chromatik starting as a freshman as the anchor of the run game. It didn't matter who was starting at tackle as they gave Whitworth and Hastroff plenty of room to run and maneuver as well as Byron Joseph who obviously had quite a few keepers. Gott had a couple of struggles in pass protection but he was a different animal in the run blocking paving holes alongside Dotson and Cleverland who has made some improvements over last year's game. Overall our run game got almost 300 yards on the ground and this is with the starters resting almost all of the second half giving Hastroff a bunch of touches in her debut excelling in both the passing and the running game.

Byron Joseph put in some work over the offseason to improve upon his passing something he struggled with a bit last season athough he was a dynamic runner. While this is a Lismore team that has a subpar defense to say the least being a mainly offensive team he was able to torch their secondary. It helped that our run game was averaging over seven yards per attempt as they didn't really know what to try and stop. Joseph had more touch and poise on his throws than we had seen all of last year and the deep ball something we barely saw him attempt became a big part of the offense today.

It was clear from the first drive that Kalu Alazar is a perfect fit in the offense, his route running left Lismore defenders flat footed and trailing and he was able to get a lot of receptions, nine to be in fact along with 80 yards and a score. You'd hope that in the future his YPC would come up a bit from 8.89 yards but that is our offense doing what it does best in the passing game. Ezekial Edwards continued to build on the rapport he had established with Joseph and him and Alazar give this team lots of options underneat. Joseph did miss on a few deep shots to Alazar and the two were seen looking on the tablet after to try and get it the next time which is great to see.

Now for the speed and deep threats of the offense, Jodi Lawerence and Joseph connected multiple times down the field including a 52 yard score that showed Joseph's arm and deep accuracy in a new way. The ball wasn't placed perfectly or anything but give Lawrence's separation on Ishaan Baxter it didn't matter whatsoever. Keith Gray got his first return touchdown taking a punt to the house for 62 yards and was a bit involved with the offense especially in the second half where he caught three passes.

Anthony Newhouse got his first career action and spent most of the time handing the ball off to Hastroff and Neville, and later Nunez and Holder because by that point the game was so out of reach. Getting 74 points is an incredible achievement especially considering it's in your first game of the season and the backups got some valuable playing time although Newhouse did not impress to say the least.

On the defensive side of the ball more dominanance, Kai Edwards was forced into passing it way more than he would have liked given the lead we took and the defensive line despite being a very different unit from last season harassed him repeatedly. Rivers and Lawrence had seamless debuts and pairing that with Albie Snow gave us a dominant day against an overmatched Lismore offensive line.

The secondary feasted as the team picked off Edwards five times in this one with Zion Irving doing what he does best knotching two of them showing that last season truly was no fluke at least for now. His first day as an outside corner showed that he has the skills to play in the position despite as we will constantly point out being oversized. Finn Steele got a pick out of the slot in his first game with the team, Stafford picked one up, and Dwayne Michael playing a decent amount at the end of the game got one as well.

This is a defense that is going to be consistently outshadowed by the offense for pretty much an entire season and they were today with the offense looking legitimately unstoppable in scoring 74 points. However holding a competent offensive side to just 17 and giving the offense lots of field position when you were expected to be more of a punching bag defense in this loaded division offensively is beautiful to see.

Next week the Mighty Eagles take on now 1-0 Swisston City who upset Akers in their first match which will be the first ever NSCF rivarly match bewteen the two Kohnheadian schools once again at Chicken King Stadium. Everyone excelled in this matchup for KCU and they are ready to show the world last season was no fluke and prove that they clearly are the better team from Kohnhead.

Swisston City upset Akers to win NSCF opener
Image
We never looked back after scoring over second touchdown and Swisston City won their first ever NSCF game

Playing host to Akers University in their first ever NSCF match in program history, Swisston City were not supposed to walk away with a two touchdown victory over a team many had as sleepers to make a run in the loaded Big Eight this season. Akers who had been projected to finish 4th last season underwhelmed finishing with a 2-8 record good enough for 5th place but with Northwest Ballina gone for the season at least, many felt they could improve for this season.

The Army Knives were ready for Akers however and with Patterson Oil Arena home to the football team Swisston City FC hyped up in red and white the game started. This was two air raid offenses going against each other despite this however it was the defense that showed up early for both sides, Akers started with the ball but could nothing against our defense starting with two three and outs helped by Piper Newman and Sid Carlson both picking up sacks.

John Foster was playing in his first ever NSCF game as the highly touted freshman recruit out of Coffs Harbour and he flashed signs of brilliance but also made a lot of rookie mistakes that you'd expect out of someone in his shoes. He and the Akers offense didn't really show up in the first half managing three points and he had yet to really open up the offense opting for safer passes which gave him a good completion percentage and no picks but limited yards.

Diego Rodriguez played exactly like we were hoping he would and after a slow first quarter we put up 10 points in the second including our first NSCF touchdown. Rodriguez facing pressure from John Wilson rolled to his left and fired a strike back to the middle of the field where William Carey was waiting to score our first touchdown from 28 yards out. Two drives later we had gotten into the red zone but a holding penalty on first down set us back and we couldn't make it to the endzone having to kick a 37 yard field goal.

The second half we would receive and Rodriguez threw his first pick of the season airmailing Audrey Cresswell over the middle and it ended in the hands of Joseph Nikovick the starting safety for the Akers defense. Foster would flash his arm and talent with a beautiful 44 yard touchdown pass to Kerry Copeland who burned Caris Brown with a nice double move and the ball was placed perfectly by Foster.

Tied at 10, Rodriguez and the offense would respond with another field goal this time from 42 after the drive was set up by a 19 yard rush from Nobles who had looked decent despite obviously getting limited touches. This would make it 13-10 but Foster and the Akers offense wasn't done and on the next drive they made a field goal to tie the game at 13 much to the dismay or fans at Patterson Oil Arena who believed refs had missed an obvious block in the back on a big screen to Oliver Brock.

With a 13-13 game it looked like this would be a close battle but touchdowns on their first two drives on our first two drives of the first quarter one on a pass to Nobles in the flat and the other a 6 yard scramble from Rodriguez would put the game out of reach. Nobles on the first one received the ball with a decent amount of open space in front of him and beat a diving Scott Rivera to the front corner pylon to give us the 20-13 lead. The defense held forcing John Foster into an errant throw on third and long that David Decker picked off as he had just been trying to do too much.

On third and goal Rodriguez scrambled to his right and found no one impeding his path to the endzone and so he took it himself for the dagger score that made it 27-13 sufficiently giving ourselves the win. It was a good performance from the offense and an even better one from the defense as we reach the 1-0 record eludes many newcomer teams including Kohnhead City last season who had the unfortunate task of playing Cold Hill in their first match.

Speaking of both those teams, the Mighty Eagles our next opponents slaughtered the other Northwest Kalactin team 74-17 and if that's any indication I'd be worried as a Swisston City player when they travel to Chicken King Stadium next Saturday night on primetime as the defense will have their hands full trying to contain the duo of Byron Joseph and Herman Whitworth along with all of the Kohnhead City supporting pieces who are an upgrade on last year's semifinalist.

Cold Hill on the other hand fared poorly at the hands of rival Richardson losing 40-29 in a rematch of the Ranorian Domestic Championship in a surprise loss that's their second NSCF loss in the last two seasons with the other coming against Richardson in their first meeting last season as well, what did you expect? Given the 11 point margain of victory, Swisston City takes over second place in the standings behind Kohnhead City on point differential which is what a 57 point win does for them.

UGLY.

SUMMERSVILLE/FAIR HAVEN - The Barnettsville entries into NSCF 23 had inauspicious debuts, both losing their opening games on the road.

Fair Haven was relatively competitive, holding the Professors to a (B-)-level 263 yards of offense and 17 points. However, the Jays could only manage 189 of their own and two field goals in a 17-6 loss. Ben Reynolds passed for 102 yards, and ran for 10. The problem was, the offensive line allowed 6 sacks.
Doug Paul did do a decent job on the ground, picking up 87 yards on 14 carries. But all the scoring was picked up by kicker Tony Hart, with boots of 48 and 41 yards.

Receiving wise, Jeff McCarthy had 3 catches for 63 yards, tight end Eric Clark had three for 27, and Kirk Underwood two for 12. Next week Fair Haven travels to Waikoloa Village.

What to say about Northern Dinagat? Northern Moravica ran all over the Panthers 43-13. Ricky Flores threw for two scores late in the fourth, well after the game was decided. That was the majority of his 10-38, 200 yard performance. He threw for the two scores, but 5 interceptions.

Receiving totals were Carlos Sullivan with 5 catches, 94 yards, 1 TD; Felipe Harris with 2 catches, 52 yards and 1 TD; Moses Pearson with one catch for 32 yards, and tackle Kenneth Oliver converting a trick play for 22 yards. Running back Randall Webber ended up with a dismal 7 yards on fourteen carries. The Panthers host Loyola-Istria in their home opener.

Bowerstone University 'Bolts'

Background Info:Last season saw a poor conference title defense as Bowerstone ended up losing it to Raynor University after failing to get an consistent offensive performance; individual statistics from pereniall all-stars like quarterback Dirk Wallace and full Gareth Lamont were always there, but they failed to produce as a team and it ended up costing them the conference title, all though they did manage to advance forward into the playoffs but their production issues caused a first stage exit. Now, with their sixth season of play staring them in the face, the Bearcats are at a tremendous moment. Many of the teams captain and otherwise key players have all graduated and been selected in the AGL draft, most notable among them being starting quarterback Dirk Wallace who went first overall to the Jedborough Bards, halfback Philip King, and fullback/tight end Gareth Lamont. George Nevin has already tapped senior Robert Gardner, a blue chip prospect in his own right, to replace Wallace as starter but there is alot of buzz surrounding freshman Richard Leyton who has developed tremendously during his redshirted season last year, and Gardner will have his work cut out for him with many of his primary weapons on the offense being unexperienced middle classman or freshman new to the team.

Stadium: Debuting this year in NSCF 23, Drummore Downs is the brand-new stadium and complex built by the University to serve as a replacement for Hookfield Stadium; construction originally began seven years ago and was concluded right before the conclusion of the last season. The new stadium is a massive upgrade, capable of seating a theoretical limit of 97,000 participants it will be the first test to see if the University can maintain it's sold-out streak in the larger stadium. Fitted with a partial roof covering over the bowl, a number of LED display boards for scores, stats and broadcasting display, as well as state of the art concourse that features both traditional stadium food, such as hot dogs and nachos, as well as newer age items such as an indoor full size bar, two in fact, a number of shops for team merchandise, and a seafood joint. It's located on the southwest corner of University property, directly accessed by the newly constructed Exit 11 on Highway 18, or through the internal footpath network on the campus grounds.

HEBITAKA - After a rather sluggish first quarter, the Felswyr State Firehawks snapped out of their funk over the latter three quarters and coasted to a 39-12 drubbing of Rickendor Central University only to face an uncertain future due to a key injury.

Sarai Gwenderyn recovered after a rough first quarter where she went 2 of 9, going 29 of 31 the rest of the way for a total of 421 yards and two touchdowns. The dual-threat Quarterback also added 104 yards on the ground in 10 attempts, adding another score on the ground. Alessandra Mio had four grabs for 166 yards and a score, while Niles Gwivern was targeted 12 times, catching 9 of those attempts for 101 yards and a score.

The biggest surprise was the confirmation of Nyata Antonucci as a third down short yardage back of sorts, as the freshman who would be a running back on any other roster ran the ball three times - all on third and short - and scored the first rushing touchdown by a player not named Sarai Gwenderyn in a long time.

Defensively, miscommunication between Freshman Safety Sage Sterling and MLB Mi-Hyeon Park led to some forays by RCU into FSU territory, but the Firehawks were able to hold them to Field Goals. The twelve points conceded is a bit alarming by last season's levels - the Firehawks somehow kept opponents to 10 points or below in 11 of 16 games last season. The team did sack the Rickendor Central Quarterback four times, and Konstantin Vollmacht contributed three tackles for loss and a safety in his first game as a Firehawk.

The biggest storyline, however, will be centered around one Vi Nia-Kaid. The starting Free Safety and one of the leaders of the defense went down hard after a tackle in the third quarter. Physio Marius Benne has diagnosed the injury as a high knee sprain, meaning Nia-Kaid will be out of the lineup for at least three weeks. Stepping up will be Ozioma Mazzi, the highly touted player from Banija; Defensive Coordinator Kasen Horrowitz is confident that the Firehawks will not miss a step.

"Ozzio is not anything like Vi, but he's ready to make a statement. He's more of a natural athlete, and we can employ that by having him play with Sage as a duo. It'll be a challenge, but that's what we brought him here to do."

Special Teams was solid per usual. Sara McAllister was perfect on all seven of her attempts - four PATs and three Field Goals, including a 51 yarder. Nellie Katt didn't have to do much, but averaged well over 50 yards on her two punts.

The Firehawks will now travel home, where the biggest challenge in the Conference awaits - hosting Sadeg State. The Skyhawks, fresh off of being labeled the #2 team in the entirety of the NSCF, barely snuck by their archrivals from Cavsar University. Though FSU handled SSU in both of the matchups last time around, everybody knows that the Skyhawks will be hell bent on making sure that they handle Felswyr State this time around. With the knowledge that the away matchup will be much harder, this game will be paramount in FSU's hopes of retaining the title.

"Everyone knows it will most likely be one of us two that claim the (conference) title," explained Head Coach Misha Florentine, "And if we don't take care of them at home, it'll be much harder going ahead. This is, by all means and purposes, a must-win match."

Besides Vi Nia-Kaid's sprained left knee, starting Left Guard Pomeroy Lockhart suffered a dislocated finger, but is expected to play in the SSU match. OLB Matthew Segwick had to take a few plays off with a strained muscle in the third quarter, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Reborn from Ashes is sure to be rocking. Can the Firehawks keep their stranglehold atop the Horizon Conference?
Inquiry to be Sent to Chromatik Football Federation Headquarters to Reconsider FSU's Position in the NSCF

CHROMIA - A group of Chromia-based businessmen that have invested a lot of money in the CFF and in Chromatik sports at large, headed by Mr. Kiernan Abostle of Alnio, is rumored to be in the process of writing a sternly worded letter to the CFF, asking for the CFF to reconsider the admittance of Felswyr State University to the NSCF ranks.

This group of investors, a group who are calling themselves the "Future of Chromatik Sports Collective", or FCSC for short, is particularly concerned for the future of Chromatik sports from a financial standpoint, shared our informant from within the group.

"They're concerned that such a small university from a small town is representing Chromatika in the NSCF when there are far more lucrative alternatives out there," stated the informant in a private interview. The informant declined to be named from the fear of repercussion from within the FCSC.

Felswyr is one of the smallest towns to field a club in the Red League and the Chromatik Baseball League, and Chromatik Basketball Association, having a population of below 100,000. The town is more widely known for its population boom during the winter due to the influx of tourists wanting to ski and snowboard the slopes of the mountains nearby.

"They would rather pull Felswyr State into the CCGC and have one of the bigger market schools - CCCU (Chromia Central College University) or ZIoT (Z'ai'ai Institute of Technology) - enter the NSCF in their stead. This would make more money, and that's their concern," stated the informant.

When asked if the schools in the CCGC are involved in the inquiry, the informant said that they didn't know anything about that.

If the CFF were to defy the wishes of the FCSC, it could lead to an ugly time for Chromatik sports. However, they can't just bend to the wills of the FCSC when FSU has done such a stellar job, can they?

An interesting time for Chromatik sports lies ahead.

CHROMIA - It wasn't supposed to be this way.

When the news had been announced that Todd Kreston, the highest touted quarterback in the nation, had committed to CCCU after being snubbed by any of the NSCF schools, everybody thought that he would hit the ground running, especially facing a team like the Deprí Lanar University Warriors. However, the Freshman struggled for most of the match, going 13-of-28 for 156 yards, a touchdown, and 1 interception while being sacked four times by the Warriors defense. This allowed for the more conservative Warriors attack to hang around for most of the match, leading to a seven-all score heading into overtime.

The first two quarters were a mess. Both Kreston and Dario Clementine were off, combining for a dismal 10-of-25 heading into halftime. The half saw three turnovers (Kreston being picked off by Twila Sruggs on a pass meant for Mark Lett where he overthrew his receiver, Clementine being strip-sacked by Comets RE Edith Parrow, Comets OLB Cassandra Edge picking off a pass int he flat) but no scores off the turnovers as neither team could get their offense going.

After halftime, CCCU went more to their 4WR/1RB package, and RB Carson Prince had some decent gashes through the outer edge of the DLU defense. This led to perhaps the best throw by Kreston all game long, where he looked off SS Edmundo Norfleet in coverage to commit to the wrong direction before finding fellow Freshman TE Marquis de Francine in the left corner of the endzone all alone.

With three minutes left in regulation, the Warriors finally got a spark of life after FS Shawnta Corrigan returned a punt to the CCCU 49. It's true that the Warriors offense is very traditional, getting yards one small chunk at a time; however, their wild card is the play-action. Though Wedigo and Smart had only contributed 123 yards of rushing total between them, the CCCU defense was wholly committed to the run. Clementine took the snap, faked a handoff to Smart, and found Carson Munst streaking by Isabella Gent. If the ball had been a half yard closer to the sideline, it could've been a touchdown; however, Munst did get two hands on it before being forced out of bounds leading to 1st and goal at the CCCU 5. Two plays later, Teodoro Smart was in the end zone.

The first overtime stanza saw both offenses going three-and-out, with field goals chipped in by both kickers. Then, Kreston's pump-fake froze the entirety of the Warriors' linebacking core before a delayed handoff gave CCCU the lead; DLU was quick to answer on a screen pass to Wedigo after four straight punishing runs.

By then, the Comets were gassed. They were lucky that they didn't concede another touchdown in the third overtime stanza, barely stopping Smart on a third-and-two. Head Coach Clara Venice decided to trust the defense, having Caitlyn Bowens kick a short field goal.

Then, disaster struck for the Comets. The snap from Center Milo Han went over Kreston's head, and the ball was recovered by OLB Ted Lowry. Game over.

"It was a rough outing for us," admitted Comets Coach Ben Olmond, "We need to do a better job of keeping Todd (Kreston) out of trouble. It's a learning moment, something we can point back at later in the year. I'm not too worried."

For the Warriors, taking down one of the favorites of the CCGC in their first ever gridiron game is a victory.

"We belong here!" shouted Teodoro Smart vehemently after the match, "And we're not going to let anyone just walk over us!"

The Comets will host the Staramara Tech University Lava next week in an attempt to secure their first victory, while Deprí Lanar University has their home opener in a game against the University of Myana Vipers.

STARAMARA - In a game showcasing all of their capabilities, the Z'ai'ai Institute of technology Hellcats turned on their engines in the second half, outstripping the Staramara Technical University Lava 29-13 in the first match held at Johnston Memorial Stadium in Staramara.

The Lava defense held the Hellcats to 148 yards of total offense in the first two quarters, holding the preseason CCGC favorites to three long field goals by Nydia Leon. Fortunately, the Sophomore kicker was up to the task; meanwhile, STU's jumbo set was giving the middle of the Hellcat defense trouble, with Ardell Moreau getting 73 yards in the first half alone. The Hellcats were able to toughen up inside the 20, however, and STU could only muster field goals in two deep drives.

In the third quarter, Teresia Goldman really stepped up. The Sophomore Quarterback went 3-for-5 on the first drive out of halftime, completing passes of 21 and 13 yards before finding Tory O'Bryan alone in the back corner of the end zone for a 33 yard score, the speedy receiver having gotten by cornerback Solomon Bauer on a double move.

The Lava answered almost immediately, Ardell Moreau putting an exclamation point on a 30 carry, 148 yard day on a 28 yard dash through the middle of the Hellcat defense to narrow the gap to only three points.

That margin would not last. Frederick Lance, who can be categorized as a boom-or-bust running back, took a pitch to the left side with Avelina Farrow and a pulling Melissa Espion ahead of him. The two blockers did their job and Lance found himself speeding, untouched, to the end zone, a 54 yard dash that effectively put the game away.

Teresia Goldman finished 18-of-26 for 213 yards and a score, while Frederick Lance had 13 carries for 104 yards, most of the yards coming on that 54-yard scamper. Sheila Pantoja was 11-of-16 for 103 yards on the losing effort.

"They gave us trouble for the first two quarters, but I'm impressed by the adaptations that we made," stated Hellcats Head Coach Emogene Delossantos, "We know that there will be many more tougher games on the road ahead, and this victory is one that has prepared us for those challenges."

Next up for the Lava is a game away at the Chromia Central College University Comets, who are also 0-1. STU Head Coach Laverna Getz isn't too worried about her team's mentality. "We know we will be underdogs for most of the season. We're just focused on our own game."

For the Hellcats, they'll get to have their home opener against the Deprí Sanar University Spartans.

13:29 UM FG - Shirley Woo 31 yard Field Goal
DEPRI SANAR - In a brilliant first start, University of Myana Quarterback Nobuko Matos completed 26-of-39 passes for 413 yards and 4 touchdowns as the University of Myana Vipers dismantled the Deprí Sanar University Spartans through the two middle quarters, prancing away with a 41-10 victory at Cambrio Stadium.

The Myana native, born between a Banijan expat and a Chromatik businessman, was particularly sharp in passes of more than 30 yards, finding reliable senior wide receiver Crista Broussard five times for 156 yards and 2 of the touchdowns. The other scores went to RB Merrill Gerald and slot receiver Foster Gallgher on throws where Matos saw the blitz coming and was able to check the ball down.

Offensive Coordinator Vida Spears couldn't say enough on the poise of her Freshman Quarterback.

"He's been nervous about this start, as you might imagine," she stated afterwards, "But he looked like a veteran out there. He only tried to force the ball twice, threw it away plenty of other times when he needed to, and was very smart with the ball."

For Deprí Sanar University, this was a game to forget. Though Quarterback Sammie Flynn and Receiver Nikole Perryman did connect for a score in the second quarter, the Spartan offense was often disrupted by the presence of Charleen Diehl and Charlott Eckert, the Vipers' Outside Linebacker tandem, in the backfield of the Spartans. On one of those hurries, Flynn's attempt at a throw away was picked off by Safety Hwa Cano, who took it into the end zone.

"We need to do a better job identifying the blitzes," admitted DSU Center Karina Fielder, "Otherwise, Sammie (Flynn) is just a sitting duck."

UM will try to maintain their momentum as they head to Deprí Lanar University in Week 2, while DSU will have the dismal task of trying to bounce back on the road at Z'ai'ai.

"The season is long," commented Sammie Flynn, "And we know our best ball hasn't been played yet. It's on us to bounce back."

Domestic College Gridiron- How does it work back at home

Image
A photo from the annual season opener of Army v. Nay

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- All the attention, naturally, is on the start of the NSCF season. But college football still goes on in Banija, even without our two traditional behemoths, Loyola-Istria and Northern Moravica. This series is only going to be published in the international editions of this magazine. And the question we will answer, is this- how does college football work here at home? For many nations, like Ranoria, Quebec, or Northwest Kalactin, the NSCF aligns with their calendars to allow schools to participate both in the domestic season, and the NSCF, in the same year. Not true in Banija. The two seasons align perfectly- the last time NMU & ULI participated in domestic college football were NSCF 15 & 16, when the BCSG had forced them out of the NSCF for two seasons. As long as the NSCF lasts, it is unlikely those two schools will ever participate domestically in college football again.

But then, it begs the question. How does it work? We'll do a multiple part series in this magazine, throughout the season, to show how domestic college football works. Like college football in other countries, it has gone over multiple changes, but it has largely held the same structure since the beginning of NSCF 17.

Basic Structure- How to win a championship

How can one be crowned national champions of Banija? By being the Salamantic Universities in NSCF 22 and beating both Banijan schools. Well, it's a very simple question, with a now simple answer- although previously complicated. Banija has 7 different conferences(which we'll get into below). There are 16 playoff spots, like there are for most sports in the country. Being gridiron, of course, the playoffs are single legged, with the highest seed at home. The 7 conference champions are guaranteed a berth in the BCSG Playoffs. The other 9 at-large teams are picked by the "BCSG Gridiron Playoff Committee". The committee will then seed the 16 playoff entrants, 1-16. All teams play 12 games a season, either 7 or 8 conference games and 4 or 5 non-conference games.

While the first 3 rounds are all played on campus, the national championship game is held at a neutral site. Traditionally, the national championship game has always been held at the national stadium, the Stadium of the Restoration. But now, it alternates. But, starting with the Banijan season coinciding with NSCF 10, it is only held at the Stadium of the Restoration every other year. This was part of an effort to ensure that more stadiums get to host the game. So the years it is not held in the Banijan capitol, it is held via a bidding process. Last season, the national championship was held at the national stadium, and this year, the stadium that won the bidding rights to host the big game was The Watering Hole, which has a capacity of 63,000. It is located in Lwanga.

Gridiron Football Conferences

List of Banija's full-time BCSG members

As a reminder, there are no conference championship games in Banija- each conference is played single round robin, with the team with best conference record determined as the conference winner.

The Northern 9 (Referred to as the "N-9")
Shango-Fogoa Coast Guard Academy* (Only a BCSG member in gridiron, competes at a lower classification in all other sports)
Moravica A&M.
Igara University.
Moravica International University.
University of Aksum.
Central Aksum University.
Aksum State University.
Zawadi University.
University of Bwaruya.

The N-9. Of course, this is Northern Moravica's conference in all sports besides gridiron football. It consists of 9 schools, mostly in the Northern half of the Moravica Region, plus the Aksum Region. You'll notice, of course, that this is not Loyola's conference. While the two used to be conference rivals in gridiron(And still are, technically, in the NSCF), at home, Loyola-Istria split off from NMU to create its own conference. Of course, the two still play each other in every single sport, but yea. The Celestia is the only conference those two share.

Upper Coastal Conference Referred to as the "UCC"
Istria City College.
Kabonero III University.
Budaka College for Literature and the Arts.
Central Moravica Technical College.
Moravica State University.
Lake Wakiso State University.
Wild Valley University.
Islamic University of Busoga.
Sivirsun University* (Busogan University, only in BCSG for gridiron- competes in local Busogan competition in other sports)

This is Loyola-Istria's conference. It's a conference that is the BCSG's youngest conference, at around a decade old. It is still in Northwestern Banija, but in the southern half of Moravica, mostly. Plus, of course, the recent addition of the Islamic University of Busoga in all sports, and Sivirsun University for gridiron only.

Valley Interior Conference Referred to as the "VIC"
University of Moravica.
University of Hangaza.
Western Hangaza University.
Lake Alexandre State University.
University of Loyola-Jinja.
Hangaza State University.
Arlenia College.
West Bunyoro University.

One of the country's 8 member conferences. This is mostly western Hangaza schools, with a Bunyoro University who doesn't totally fit geographically, and the University of Moravica. U of M was always a school that was looked down upon by NMU, so when they tried to join the N-9 way back when and were rejected, they joined the Valley Interior Conference. It's generally seen as one of the country's most competitive conferences.

Southern Shango Conference Referred to as the "SSC"
Kizza I College.
University of Loyola-Busukuma.
Sankt Adelheid University.
Bunyoro A&M University.
University of Ankole.
Thabiso University.
North Ankole University.
Banijan Star and Crescent University.

Another 8 member conference! This one mostly located in South-Central Banija. And you could probably call this a basketball conference. Half of this conference qualified to compete in NSCAA 12. And it is probably the country's least competitive conference. In terms of consistently good gridiron teams, it is Kizza I College that really takes the cake. One of Banija's biggest schools, the Cubs are regular playoff participants, although have a particularly poor record against the two NSCF schools. Loyola-Busukuma also competes for playoff spots, but most years this is Kizza I's to lose.

Kuanen River Conference Referred to as the "KRC."
Dodoma City College.
Bunyoro State University.
University of Bunyoro.
Lesedi University.
Hangaza Technological University.
North Hangaza University.
Hangaza A&M.
Royal Air Force Academy(Air Force).

The KRC. The conference with schools that are mostly along Banija's eastern border, aka the Kuanen River, with Geisenfred. It is geographically disparate, with schools up and down the eastern border. North Hangaza is closer to the northern border with Timuria, while U of Bunyoro is closer to Banija's southern coast. It takes many hours to traverse that border.

Lower Coastal Conference Referred to as the "LCC."
University of Kitara.
Kabakono University.
South Kitara University.
Akwadua University.
Central Kitara University.
Mamari University.
Nsade State University.
Zakuta State University.

And now, for the Lower Coastal Conference! Banija's west coast. This is schools that are generally located in the Kitara Region. The Kitara REgion is one that is growing both in wealth and population, meaning that they are slowly producing better athletes. Amazhu Chibuzo, the former Loyola legend, played high school ball out in Mamari before coming out to Loyola-Istria. The Kitara Region is slowly becoming more fertile recruiting ground, and the level of play in this conference is going up accordingly.

Sun Valley Conference Referred to as the "SVC"
Buganda State University.
University of Buganda.
Shidane University.
Heshima & Usian University.
Pumbasa University.
Musulu College.
Ankole Institute of Technology.
Ankole College for Creative Studies.

And lastly, the Sun Valley Conference. Also located, generally speaking, in South Central Banija. All sorts of schools in here. The Ankole College for Creative Studies, unsurprisingly, is a near disaster sports wise. But they view BCSG as a great opportunity to get their message out as one of Banija's few fine arts schools, and so here they are.

Non-Affiliated Member schools are independents, not members of any conference.
Kabaka's Military College(Army).
Banijan Royal Naval Academy(Navy).

Army and Navy! Banija's current independents. Other schools have been independent. University of Moravica historically was an independent, trying repeatedly to join Northern Moravica's conference(big brother!) but decided not to. It is unsurprising that Banija's first two military schools are the ones who are generally independent. It's a good fit for both schools. They schedule whomever they want, they get their games. It is rare for either school to make the playoff, but they both prioritizing travelling the country for road games, trying to hit every region to play in front of military veterans.

Conference Strength

This is always a guessing game, a fool's errand in the eyes of some. But let's play it! What are the weakest to strongest conferences in Banija? We're sure to piss somebody off, but the general agreement is this

7. Sun Valley Conference
6. Kuanen River Conference
5. Southern Shango Conference
4. Lower Coastal Conference
3. Valley Interior Conference
2. Northern 9 Conference
1. Upper Coastal Conference

Of course, it's hard to have context for that ranking without knowing how good these schools are. And that's what we'll talk about next! Who are the historic strong schools, and which schools have taken the biggest advantage of Northern Moravica's and Loyola-Istria's departure from the NSCF? That'll be in our edition next week. The sport's general best teams and biggest brands ever since Northern Moravica decided to venture off to the NSCF in NSCF 12. We'll also have a list of every national champion since then.

Banijan NSCF Roundup
- Sparked by a dominant ground game, Northern Moravica won its home opener in dominant fashion against Northern Dinagat State of Barnettsville, 43-13. Northern was sparked by a dominant ground game, and midway through the 4th quarter, led by a score of 40-0, before a pair of late touchdowns put the Panthers on the board. They were led by Amanuel Tegene(24 carries, 145 yards, 3 TDs) and Apollo Esther(17 carries, 103 yards, 1 TD) out of the backfield, as had a grand total of 297 rushing yards. They didn't ask Wagner-Young to do much, as he completed 11-14 passes for 137 yards and a TD pass to Rada Menasse. While sophomore kicker Babou Guiss missed an extra point, he was 3/3 on field goals for the day.
- Loyola-Istria also won their home opener in dominant fashion, although not similar fashion. They took to the skies as the redshirt senior Amadi Ikenna sparkled in his debut start. He was 25/32 for 363 yards and 4 TDs and no interceptions, while also adding a score on the ground. He, however, unfortunately lost a fumble. Khalil Hauptmann showed his connection with the new quarterback, hauling in 9 receptions for 134 yards and two scores of his own.
Former champion of quite a few things. Former President of even more things.

Richard Steinheil was visibly frustrated as his team was completely shredded by Deondre Rhine's Buffalo in the Ranorian National Championship

Richardson University Football Locker Room
Richardson, Ranoria
One week after Ranorian National Championship, One Week Before NSCF XXIII MD1

Richard Steinheil waited, nodding at players who greeted him with lips pressed thin, silent, hands in his pocket. Bags under his eyes. If asked what was going on, he simply nodded towards the benches. Normally this was film day. Not so, here. The players filed in. Guys like Ezekiel Bantoba and Carlos Schmidt, who preferred coming in early having to wait in silence for a good hour while others weren't quite as prompt.

There were glances amongst one other, but no words, they knew better. The rest of the coaching staff only gazed across their gathered team, all except for Eric Dietrich. The long time Governors defensive coordinator sat in a corner, cap pulled low and head hanging lower.

"Secka," Steinheil opened his mouth for the first time since players had begun to arrive, and gestured towards the door. The corner leaned over and shut the metal door with a nod, his outstretched fingers only just long enough to get the job done.

Click

"Alright you all." Steinheil began to tap his feet, arms coming up and crossing, "50 points. 50 points. We got to the biggest domestic stage in Ranoria, and they hung 50 on us." Many of the gathered young men slunk down as he let out a sharp breath and began to pace, "Nine and six in the NSCF last season. Coming into this one after being embarrassed." He stopped and spun on his heel, eyes narrowing as he once again surveyed those in attendance, and slowly reached into his coat pocket, slamming a piece of paper on the markerboard behind him. "An article from a Kohnhead analyst. Anyone care to read it?" He snagged a magnet from the board and stick it on top of the paper.

"Power rankings for the NSCF. Anyone know where we're at?" Of course some did, they weren't totally deaf to the outside noise after all, but no one had the audacity to voice their knowledge. "Eighth!" Steinheil's voice finally rose, practically roaring, hitting the paper with the flat of his hand after every one of the schools he proceeded to mention. "Behind Cold Hill, behind Kohnhead City, behind Raynor, and behind Loyola-Istria!"

Many of the players cringed at the sudden bite behind his words. He brought out another paper, "Also Kohnhead media, their newest school, Swissmore? Projected 5-8. And we're listed as one of the potential five!"

The team's attention, of course, was lasered in on their livid head coach, but in the corner Eric Dietrich pulled his cap lower on his head.

"We have been disrespected, we have been cast aside as just another decent school. Cold Hill, our rivals? They're the media darling, and we're not given a second thought. If anyone here is okay with that, there's the door!" The man was panting, now, finger extended towards that door. He let that hang in the air for a moment, and then pulled back, standing tall. "Enough of the nonsense. Enough mediocrity. Enough falling in the second round of the playoffs. We are Richardson University, and you lot are going to start playing like it. Our defense is going to remember how to make stops. Am I clear?"

Nods and mumbled "Yes sir"s spread across the room, and Steinheil clapped his hands, instantly composing himself. "Now get into the damn weight room. We're going to get a good lift in, channel some of that frustration, before we think about watching film."

The players gathered either went to their respective lockers to change or headed for the team's exclusive weight room, and Steinheil looked down to Dietrich. "We both better pray these boys got a wake up call. This season goes the way of the last, and I'm on the chopping block, but they'll come for you first."

Dietrich nodded, "I know, I know."

20 minutes before kickoff, Cold Hill @ Richardson

Gideon Kearse was grateful that the Governors happened to only have three defensive ends dressing. As a waterboy, it allowed him to get some pre-game reps with the backup, Felix Henderson. Pads or no, he shot out faster than Henderson could react, batting down the freshman's arms and swimming right over and around him before jogging to a stop.

A whistle blew from midfield, and the defensive line jogged off to meet the rest of the team for the 11-on-11 drills that would occur right before the game. Henderson clapped hands with the Richardson commit as he passed, "You're a monster bro, can't wait to see what you do next year."

Gideon, officially a water boy, leaned down to grab the cases of Vilaye he was tasked with supplying and tossed a couple towels over his shoulder with a knowing grin. He knew exactly what he was going to do next year.

Deondre Rhine stood with his backup on the sideline as the kickoff teams took their spots, watching Richardson's starting defensive line stare daggers at him from across the divide. He elbowed Aurel Strathos next to him, flipping a ball in his free hand, "So hear me out here."

"I don't like where this is going."

Rhine tossed the ball over his shoulder and wrapped his arm around Strathos, oblivious to the sound of liquid crashing out of a container, said container slamming onto the ground, a few muffled screams, and an "Oh god, it's everywhere!" that his careless action had caused, and pointed to the scoreboard.

"We spot them twenty or so, and then we start trying. Trust me, it'll be hilarious."

"Diamond, wouldn't it be better to just bury them and remind them of their place in the world?" Deondre's eyes flicked over to his tight end, Dorian Browne-Clarke, hands hanging by the inside of his pads. Rhine tilted his head to concede the point.

"Yeah, you're right. Besides, I'm gonna have to throw sixty if I want that MOP award in my trophy case, apparently. Alright boys!" He pointed towards the field, once Rai Swift was tackled after the kickoff, "Le' go!"

Governors vs Buffalo NSCF 23, Round 1:
Analysis From Week 1 Stunner

Image
Richardson defensive Carlos Schmidt led the team with three sacks in a statement win over their rivals in Cold HIll

Following one of the most dominating championship performances in Ranorian history, the Cold Hill Buffalo had little to prove about what kind of team they were this week. Even being a rivalry game, this week’s game seemed like a shoe-in win.

But the Governors showed up on Saturday, and looked like an entirely different team than they did just a few weeks before in that championship thrashing. The blue-blood program dominated the gridiron in all facets, and looked exactly how we knew they'd have to - like a team with vengeance on their minds.

On offense, the entire unit did a great job of regrouping and finding their stride they'd had all season until that haunting domestic finale. The Richardson offense rekindled that chemistry Ezekiel Bantoba seemed to channel earlier in the season and advanced the ball at will against Cold Hill. Though the offense had no room to let off the gas in this one — even with an exemplary defensive showing — Governors field general Ezekiel Bantoba and his unit were the stars in this one. This was despite the relative containment of All-Ranorian wide receiver Baraka Hali. The vanguard of Richardson's passing attack over the past few seasons has thrived with Bantoba under center, but like in the championship game, Victoria Mio was able to keep him hemmed in. On 5 targets, Hali reeled in two receptions, turning that into thirty three yards.

To his credit, he was able to knock one pass out of Mio's hands when Bantoba had trouble accounting for her ridiculous reach, but the rest of the Richardson receiving core stepped up nicely. Senior Illiad Cullen carried the load, eating up yards from the slot with one of the best performances of his career. He'd end the day with 9 catches on 11 targets, with a nice 137 yards and a touchdown to tack onto the box score. Blake Hawthorne, at tight end, ended up being the second best target for Bantoba on the day, with 101 yards and six catches of his own. It was a nice showing for the man often referred to as "#BantobaMania," showing once again that he can keep the offense churning even when his main weapons are taken away.

What? You thought Dustin Devlin was going to be a factor against Cold Hill's Koman Tabor? Good luck!

Anyway, what opened up this explosion in the passing game, you ask? Well, we have an answer: Saul Thomas Sr. The beast of a running back ran straight behind this monstrous Richardson offensive line and delivered an audible crack of the pads on every one of his 22 carries on the day. On a dozen of those, the play was whistled dead without Thomas Sr. actually hitting the ground. With a touchdown run of his own, he and Bantoba put this Governors squad on their back. Elliot Roach, of course, chipped in with 8 totes and thirty three yards.

Defensively, Richardson couldn't have done much better. Cold Hill quarterback Deondre Rhine was treated as a ragdoll all night long by the Governors’s pass rush, who concluded the night with an NSCF record - for the program - of 12 sacks. When Rhine wasn’t on the turf, he found himself contained, or as much as a player like him can be, with 337 yards and a 2/3 TD/INT ratio. With Rhine relatively slow, Cold Hill's run game, usually operating with open lanes, was slowed significantly as well. Brannon Hillis would finish with nineteen carries for sixty nine yards, along with knocking in a two point conversion early in the contest. He was similarly beaten down by the Governor front seven, with Clancy Gluber and Gudbrand Taurus combining for five tackles for a loss. Taurus also notched a pair of violent sacks on the day, one forcing a fumble. The sophomore and former #2 recruit seems to finally be coming into his own, and we're excited to track his development throughout the season.

The big benefactor of the pass rush's dominance? Makang Secka. The sophomore corner showed out with a whopping three interceptions despite being asked to cover Cold Hill's big tight end, Dorian Browne-Clarke. As their best target by far and the closest thing Deondre Rhine would consider to a security blanket, having such a ball hawk on him proved to be a devastating combination.

Overall, it was exactly the kind of game everyone wanted to see from the Governors, if they are to re-establish themselves as legitimate threats in the NSCF. Not only coming in as the official 6th best team in college football, but being ranked 8th by conference rival Kohnhead City's countrymen in the media, this squad is facing serious questions about their program's longtime success on all stages, and their ability to continue it.

Oh, and Cold Hill? We wouldn't worry too much. Deondre Rhine is back, there, after all. While the quarterback was limping by the end of just the third quarter, most men would be after taking that kind of a beating. They'll have a chance next week to bounce back against Lissmore Christian College, while the Governors gear up for a shootout as they visit the Akers University Capitals with John Foster, fresh off a forty eight hundred yard domestic season, at the helm.

Sadeg State vs Cavsar S2E1

Postby Drawkland » Sun Mar 07, 2021 12:01 am

SADEG STATE vs CAVSAR UNIVERSITY
Season 2, Episode 1

Nobody quite knew what to expect going into the first matchup of NSCF 23. The established Sadeg State gearing up for another season and a possible playoff run, while Cavsar tries to push the boundary further and develop more to the NSCF level. Hosting in Sadeg for the first leg, it was expected to be another blowout in State's favor, like both their matchups from the previous season (Cavsar's first). What they got instead was incredibly different.

The game started with Sadeg State winning the coin toss and deciding to defer to the second half. This meant Cavsar would get the ball to start the game, and so they got right to work. In a drive effectively mixing the run and pass, Seb Rosario led the Gladiators right down the field and into the red zone. The drive was capped on third and goal from the 2, when Mike Banks got the handoff and powered behind the line to score the first points of the game. In their ever-aggressive ways, Cavsar elected to try for two points, and got it as Rosario struck Joe Johan right in the numbers on the passing play.

For the Skyhawks' first possession, Nick Parks created almost all the offense. Taking the ball on the read option, rolling from the pocket when the pressure was high, slinging the ball around the field, Parks was terrorizing the Cavsar defense. It wouldn't be long until he got into the end zone, and from 2nd and goal, Parks took the ball on a read option and zoomed into the end zone. Not wanting to fall behind on points, Brand Manlio also decided to go for the two point conversion. Nick Parks burst through the pocket on a designed QB draw and tied up the game at 8.

Cavsar's next possession would bring them past midfield, at about the 45 yard line. The Gladiators' drive would stall here, leading to a 4th and 5. Feeling confident enough with their field position and playcalling, Scott Linhart decided to go for it. Rosario had Jonathan Kimbrough at the right spot to get the first down, but his pass was too high and Kimbrough couldn't get his hands around it, instead accidentally tipping it up in the air. Johnny McCray, the super senior, was eager to get his first turnover of the year, so he dove forward and caught the tipped ball for an interception, despite the fact that it would cost a few yards instead of a turnover on downs.

Even with the 10 yard pushback thanks to McCray's greed, the Skyhawks offense once again bore down the field. They started giving Raymond Morgan more handoffs to keep Cavsar honest on defense, and this gave Parks just enough space to bust 15 yard runs twice in the drive. From the five yard line, Parks found Jay Gibson open on a curl to get the touchdown. Wanting to stay ahead in case Cavsar made a two point conversion on their next touchdown, Manlio brought out the offense again for the conversion. This time Parks would hit Navis on a quick slant to make the score 16-8 in Sadeg State's favor.

The next couple drives for both teams would involve a punt, leading Cavsar now two drives removed from their first touchdown. It was crucial that they score on that drive to stay even with the Skyhawks, as it was clear their defense wouldn't be able to hold them forever. For their credit, they did drive down the field into field goal range. They even got into the end zone, thanks to a big-time run by Mike Banks to break free from the backfield and run 30 yards to the pylon. Unfortunately, the touchdown was called back thanks to a supposed holding call on Sophomore Right Tackle Luke Plipus. This not only nullified the touchdown on 3rd and long, but it also sent the Gladiators back another 10 yards. The halfback screen on 3rd and very long didn't go anywhere, so Cavsar was stuck just outside the 40 on a 4th and a Country Mile. There was no possibility to go for it, so they had to settle for the field goal. Lower Senior Lenox Upton's first kick of the new season was not a good start, as it barely floated wide right and kept the score at 16-8.

Both teams were playing aggressive on defense, and Sadeg State's offense was starting to really feel the pressure. After a few drives, the defensive coordinator and front 7 for Cavsar had started getting accustomed to Parks' playstyle and the blocking tendencies of the Skyhawk offensive line. Many Drawkian schools require big shock plays to really spark their offense into motion. Sadeg State and Cavsar are no exception, and both teams knew that. Cavsar was forcing Sadeg State to beat them underneath, and for the most part it was working. Pressure from Cavsar's fearsome defensive line was starting to really get at Nick Parks, and once again Sadeg State could only get one first down and was forced to punt again.

Cavsar would get back to work, and finally get momentum on their side. Rosario managed to find sophomore tight end Jonathan Kimbrough on a verticals play which quickly gave Cavsar 30 yards and got them past midfield. With the skill of Mike Banks, Cavsar was starting to break the "beat us underneath" defense Sadeg State was attempting to roll with. Banks would get his second rushing touchdown of the game on a draw that led him 7 yards and a stiff army away from the end zone. With the score, Cavsar was now down by two. Cavsar tried a triple option play, but it was sniffed out, and defensive end Bruce Barr buried Banks short of the line to gain.

Sadeg State now led Cavsar 16-14, but the Skyhawks couldn't get their offense going once again. They were forced to punt with just a minute remaining in the half, and this is when Cavsar really shined. Sadeg State was in a contain defense, hoping to just keep Cavsar out of field goal range if they so wished, but Cavsar started with a play action rollout that Rosario sent downfield into the waiting arms of Kimbrough, who found a soft spot in the defense which bit on the run. He racked up another 35 yards before he was forced out of bounds, but now suddenly Cavsar had a chance to take the lead going into the locker room. With two timeouts, Cavsar was able to use one on a deep shot in the middle of the field, this one a short post to Isaac Sanders to bring the Gladiators to the red zone. With a couple running plays to eat up the middle and eat up the rest of the half, Cavsar got to the four yard line with just seconds remaining. They had enough time to run one more play if they threw a pick pass to the end zone. The offense obliged, with Rosario rolling to the right and hitting Kimbrough at the goalline with a sweep.

The coming two point conversion once again fell short, with an attempted fade pass from Rosario to Johan. Some would argue that the Skyhawk defender, Paul Gore, was a bit too handsy on the coverage, but the play went unflagged and Cavsar were only up 16-20 at halftime.

Sadeg State had enough time at the break to formulate a solid script for a drive to start the second half. Brand Manlio's playcalling led the Skyhawks down the field, especially thanks to Parks going 6/6 passing and adding a couple first downs with his feet. The drive concluded with Parks finding Navis on a late-developing slant for the leading touchdown. Wanting to stay ahead in the case that Cavsar got a field goal on their next drive, Sadeg State once again went for two. Once again, they'd cash in on the play, hitting Navis on a cheeky motion screen where all the blocks lined up. The score was once again in Sadeg State's favor at 24-20.

From here, Cavsar's offense started to fall behind. Rosario made a few mistakes that ended in incompletions, and eventually one on third and long around midfield forced the Gladiators to punt. Their defense was getting back into the groove, keeping Sadeg State at bay, but they couldn't keep up with the demands of their consistently-flaccid offense continuing to take little time off the clock and fail to score. Disaster nearly struck midway through the fourth quarter. Parks tossed a deep shot to Brandon Brown inside the ten, and suddenly the Skyhawks got to first and goal for the first time all half. Thankfully, Martin Kay shed straight through the offensive line on the very next play, busting into Raymond Morgan right as the back got the handoff. With the ball not yet fully secured by Morgan, it popped out of his grip. Linebacker Michael Emory was right behind Kay, and he was able to snag the ball in the air after its bounce, and had the momentum to continue downfield. Nick Parks threw on his afterburners to catch Emory and tackle him before he could return the ball very far.

Now Cavsar had the ball with just enough time on the clock to score and leave nothing left for Sadeg State. Scott Linhart seemed to be making all the right calls on offense, and the Gladiators marched down the field with intent to end the game there. It nearly came to fruition, but Rosario made a fatal error that could've doomed the Gladiators. Trying to fit the ball in the center of the field to Isaac Sanders, Rosario failed to account for the lurking Nico Michaels, who hopped up to snatch the ball from midair and come down with the interception. With the front seven now acting as an entourage, Michaels zoomed down the field. The Cavsar offense gave chase, and eventually a lineman slipped through and brought Michaels down, already in field goal range for Sadeg State.

With only three timeouts, Cavsar had to stop Sadeg State there or the game would be over. The fearsome defensive line of Cavsar managed to overpower the tired State O-line and brought down Raymond Morgan in the backfield twice. Now operating at the edge of field goal range, Sadeg decided to take a risk and pass the ball. Parks shot it to Gibson, but traffic over the middle jarred the ball loose, and now Sadeg State was forced to trot out Nat Knox, the true freshman kicker. The 55-yarder was not going to be a gimme for the young Knox. With ice in his veins, Knox knocked the ball straight through the uprights, and now Sadeg State was up 27-20.

Cavsar would get one more chance with the ball, now just a minute and a half away from defeat if they couldn't score a touchdown on their final drive. A stellar return from Ozzy Otten set up Cavsar at their own 40 yard line. A pass to Kimbrough for a first down, a pass to Johan on the sideline, and another pass to Kimbrough (bringing him over 150 yards on the game) left Cavsar with 20 seconds left at the Sadeg State 20 yard line. Two straight quick incompletions left Cavsar at 3rd and 10. Manlio set the State defense to blitz, hoping to bury Rosario deep and force Cavsar to use their final timeout, as well as putting them in a 4th and very long.

Seeming to anticipate this, Scott Linhart dialed up something ballsy for the 3rd down play: a halfback screen. With the front seven for Sadeg State mostly blitzing, and the secondary in contain, the stage was set for Mike Banks slipping away from the pocket with an escort. Rosario managed to draw the defense far enough away before bumping the ball to Banks, and suddenly Banks had tons of open space and blockers ahead of him.

Cavsar U Hometown Radio
"Rosario sliding back in the pocket, the defense is after him, he ... gets it to Banks!
Banks is wide open on the screen with tons of room! Banks has a chance to save the game for Cavsar!
Banks breaking a tackle, gets his blocks, one man to beat ... he's in!!"
"With no time left, the Gladiators strike back against the Skyhawks and will have a chance to win!"
"There's going to be a lot of pressure on Linhart for this next decision ... go for the tie or go for the win?"
Sadeg State Hometown Radio
"Sadeg State is sending the dogs against Cavsar, Rosario has to backpedal, tries to get the ball away, and he just barely does.
Banks now has the football with a convoy of blockers, and 20 yards to go. Skyhawks are giving chase! Banks running to the end zone ... he scores."
"Cavsar now have a chance to tie the game, or more likely, go for a two point conversion to win it."
"Considering their history so far tonight, they should definitely go for the tie. Sadeg State has dominated the two point conversion game tonight."

Scott Linhart, feeling fate was on the Gladiator's side, told the offense to stay on the field for the fourth time that night for the conversion. Lined up in the shotgun, Banks to his left, fullback Tom Adams on his right, Seb Rosario stood with the chance for Cavsar to win their first NSCF game against the Skyhawks.

Cavsar U Hometown Radio
"Rosario, Banks, and Adams all in the backfield for the final play of the game. Cornell is in to block.
The Skyhawks are making a lot of noise, but the Gladiators look cool as ever. Here's the snap.
Rosario fakes it to Banks, he's got room to the right, one block lining up, the defense is coming, Rosario down to the goalline ...
HE'S IN! Rosario just got the ball over the line to put Cavsar on top! What a play! Just waiting for the signal ..."
"It looks like the refs aren't calling the conversion, they're saying he's short."
"They'll take another look at it and overturn it, he was clearly in!"
Sadeg State Hometown Radio
"Three men in the backfield for this two-point conversion. Two receivers on each side, and an extra blocker on the line for Cavsar.
The crowd here in Sadeg is roaring, it's not going to be easy for Cavsar here. Play clock running down.
Rosario takes the snap, fakes the handoff, he's moving to his right. Here comes the defense, he stretches for the goalline -
HE'S KEPT OUT! Chris Boyd takes Rosario to the ground and the refs are calling it short! Sadeg State is gonna win the game!

Skyhawks Gridiron Park exploded as both teams started to celebrate. The refs came in quickly and called Rosario short, but Cavsar players instantly started arguing their point. Inevitably, the booth took a look at the play, and the slow motion footage showed on the big screens in the stadium, as well as on TV.

Cavsar U Hometown Radio
"Finally the officials have stepped in. The booth has just called down to say they want another look."
"Thank Goodness, because that was a bad call on the field. Let's take another look at the footage."
"You see Rosario run to the right, gets a block, then he dives for the end zone right as a defender got to him."
"Look at that, just by inches, he gets the tip of the ball over the line! This is a good angle that shows it all."
"This shouldn't be a long decision, the officials just need to get on the same page."
...
"Finally the officials break their huddle. Here's Bud Wychek with the call."
"After review of the play, the ruling on the field stands as called. The runner was short of the goalline, and the game is over."
"WHAT?! The play is going to stand! Cavsar is going to lose the game!"
"They say the play stands, they apparently don't have enough evidence to overturn the call!"
"That's unbelievable! We could see the footage, you can look it up yourself, Rosario had to have broken the plane there!"
"This is going to be a big point of contention after today. This is a pretty blatantly blown call by the officials."
"Sadeg State is going to come away with the win in this hot rivalry game in Week 1."
"I still can't believe this call. We're going to be talking about this a lot."
Sadeg State Hometown Radio
"It appears they want to take another look at the play."
"Cavsar is pleading their case to the refs, they seem to think Rosario made it in before he was down."
"We're taking another look at the play here. Rosario runs to the right, runs into Chris Boyd, and outstretches his arm, but he just doesn't get to the line."
"It looks like he could've gotten in, but Boyd hit him hard enough to turn his momentum slightly backwards. What a stop!"
...
"The refs have taken their look and they're coming back out to announce the verdict. Here's head referee Bud Wychek."
"After review of the play, the ruling on the field stands as called. The runner was short of the goalline, and the game is over."
"And there you have it folks! After a lucky comeback, Cavsar almost managed to upset Sadeg State, but the Skyhawks went out on top."
"For the Skyhawks, they have the much more pressing challenge of Felswyr State next week."

And from there, the ridicule and outrage from both sides erupted all across Drawkland and even elsewhere in the NSCF spheres. Countless videos from dozens of angles were shared around, with both Sadeg State and Cavsar fans convinced their point of view was right. It was an insane ending, and with even more pressing games ahead, the focus had to shift elsewhere. This kind of loss could break the season for Cavsar, and the win could be the start Sadeg needed to get their confidence up for the rest of the slate.

All said and done, everyone knew that the return leg of the series, in Cavsar, was going to be a red-hot game that both teams were going to bring their A-game to. Until then though, the Drawkian squads would have to go their separate ways, and be in the best possible shape next time they'd face up.

Early Power Rankings

5. Loyola-Istria (BNJ) - The Blue Thunder were able to put an early showing of why no one should take what happened with the two Banija schools last season too seriously, as an absolutely emphatic home victory for the Blue Thunder showcased all the reasons why them and Northern Moravica are considered to be true championship contenders. A great offensive showing and a steely defensive one, keeping Waikoloa Village to just three points, it was a demonstration of masterclass of the highest order. However this was a game that they were expected to win and to dominate in the fashion that they did, the questions about their quality will not be answered until they play Salamantic and Northern Moravica, the other two true blue bloods of the Celestia Conference. Right now they have our curiosity, to truly have our attention though, they are going to have to put up the results against their rivals that was nowhere to be seen at all during last season.

4. Richardson University (RAN) - In the Big Eight, as Vanorian schools are quite acutely aware, it is not just about a single victory over a rival that will be the key to taking the conference, however there has to be a certain sweetness to be defeating your national rival who are also the current NSCF holders and media darlings, though for good reason. You would not have known with that week one performance that Richardson had the disappointing season last go around and Cold Hill were the champions of the NSCF, yet in corraling their fellow Ranorian powerhouse, Richardson put the entirety of the NSCF on notice and with points aplenty in their victory, they will have announced to the rest of the conference that they are just as capable of putting up large point tallies in order to compete with all the gunslingers that currently occupy the conference. Richardson are typically a more defensive unit and they were able to keep Cold Hill quiet at times, with one of the surprise packages in the form of Kohnhead City in their conference and putting up over seventy on their opening opponent, Richardson will need to be able to tap into that history to get the victories to replace Cold Hill as the conference and competition's top program.

3. Raynor University (VAL) - It was a game of shaking off the rust for the Rockets and perhaps a bit of nerves to, though they were far more emphatic in their opening match victory than their Vanorian counterparts in the Raiders of Mar Sara. With five scores, four touchdowns and a field goal, from seven offensive possessions, it was a game about being efficient with the football and then with the defense also getting on the board with a safety in the second quarter, it really was an all around team effort. The team that finished third place last tournament has some work to do, particularly on the defensive end, but they never looked like they were going to lose the game and in the end they put up a dominant and efficient performance that was able to send the home crowd with smiles and leaving enough footage on the tapes for the coaches to have reason to coach them up during the week of training.

2. Cold Hill University (RAN) - As we mentioned further up, Cold Hill came into this season as the biggest, baddest program around and everyone was expected to have to be a chasing pack to the pace that they were going to set for the rest of the field. That however has already been turned on its head as they walked into Richardson and were found out, walking away with a loss and now behind the eight ball when it comes to wrestling control of the Big Eight conference. Lucky for them, their conference is absolutely stacked with talent, particularly on the offensive end and it could be a conference that cannabalizes itself throughout the season. Despite the loss, their is no denying the talent that Cold Hill has at their disposal and if they are able to overcome this early stumble, you have to be worried about how good they might be but for now they look to be resting on their laurels of last season and the championship hangover that seems to linger over the previous' seasons champions all too often.

1. Felswyr State University (CMT) - Unlike Cold Hill, the other school that was in the championship game was not caught out in their first match of the new season and the most impressive part about their three touchdown victory, it was on the road as well. Felswyr looks to be picking up right where they left off and are going to be very difficult for the Skyhawks of Sadeg to try and keep up with, as the old blue blood of the conference is now looking up at the young upstart who has all the talent in the world to back up their swagger. They were only a few plays going their way from a title last season and they have started off on the right foot when their championship rival has slipped up and for that, they have to be the current best of the bunch, the new leaders of the pack if you will. Can they handle the pressure of being the top dog or will it cause them to collapse under their own weight of confidence and expectactions?

Hoofstra Pride Player Profiles

QB Tzeench Eramarian
Major: History [Dreamed Realm & Enness]
Year: Junior
Nickname: Frostiboo
Bio: Commonly referred to by their peers as "a fucking nerd," Tzeench is an analytical mind who was chosen to lead the Pride's offense as it'll take a clever sonuvabitch to get anything done with a set of Karditani wide receivers. Their schoolwork features of fixation on two of the most enigmatic peoples the NSSverse has known: the history and mythology of Dreamed Realm nations like The Holy Empire and the Archregimancy, as well as the Wightlings formerly of Atlantian Oceania and their subsequent escape to the Wide Enness Ocean and Bonesea. Their favorite sportsperson, despite themselves being a gridiron player, is naturally Juan Tzimisces.

HB Chainlink
Major: Engineering [Automotive]
Year: Senior
Nickname: Zelda
Bio: A gifted student from a school in a very poor district of Detrot, Chainlink caught national headlines when he cobbled together an automated training dummy for his o-line that would push back. She's got a promising future working for one of the big Detrot automakers and is without a doubt determined to make a splash in regards to how they run their business and treat their workers; in the meantime, she's hopping fools on the gridiron and posting the majority of the Pride's yardage.

WR Southward Moss
Major: Agriculture [Forestry]
Year: Senior
Nickname: Mold
Bio: While none would dare say it to his face, there's no doubt South is the most toxic presence in the Pride locker room. But like how penicillin grows from mold, good things come from this unpleasant presence—namely catches. He's the only receiver on staff who's definitively good at their job. That means everyone else's capacity for taking his constant bitching and slacking is elastic by necessity. Only studying forestry because it's the family business, and only at Hoofstra because both his parents and three of his grandparents went.

WR Brandon McVay
Major: Materials Science [Sugar Substitutes]
Year: Junior
Nickname: Aspartame Tooth
Bio: From a young age Brandon developed an undying love for both sports and incredibly unhealthy amounts of junk food. That's why it's his mission in life to produce ever more accurate and less body-destroying sweeteners that can better let himself and his fellow athletes indulge and compete simultaneously. There's been several occasions where his friends have had to drag him out of the chemistry building labs late at night so he could get enough sleep before a game. On the field, he's... fine. ish.

WR Natalie Brookford
Major: Engineering [Civil]
Year: Freshman
Nickname: Knickknat
Bio: A faint hope for the future of Karditani offense, Natalie has all the tools a receiver should need to reach an elite level of skill. But having spent much of her youth focusing on badminton instead, her game sense and specialized gridiron skills are woefully underdeveloped despite a great showing in her final two years of highschool ball. Maintains a popular social media account where she takes glamour shots of bridges.

TE Short Option
Major: Economics [Stonks]
Year: Junior
Nickname: [the abbreviation for whatever the current meme stock is]
Bio: The rare case of a pony double-dipping in their nominative determinism! Short has allegedly already made enough off the Fillydelphia Stock Exchange to bankroll their entire tuition as well as repeatedly finance extremely poor decisions for their peer group. Why there's a cottage industry of carving ice sculptures of pterodactyls that double as clandestine taps in Karditan is a question nobody may ever have a good answer to, but what we do know is that many a Hoofstra student has gotten royally fucked up from one at Short's expense. They're also very good at catching balls but being immediately tackled by opposing linebackers.

RT Quentin Bakir
Major: Engineering [Petroleum]
Year: Senior
Nickname: Slick
Bio: Pound-for-pound the hardest drinker on the team, Quentin will drink anyone under the table at a moment's notice. However, he doesn't act like that's cool or good. It was discovered early on that his natural affinity for fluid dynamics and chemistry had him destined for a high-ranking position in the Karditani oil industry; there's no secret the outspoken Ponyist Protectionist Party (effectively greens, for you foreigners reading) voter routinely experiences depressive episodes about their inevitable fate. So in between experimentation sessions to see if there's any way to minimize the carbon footprint of Karditan's intense oil consumption he's making all those feelings go away with copious amounts of emotional lubricant. Also plays gridiron sometimes.

RG Riptide
Major: Biology [Marine]
Year: Senior
Nickname: n/a (how the fuck do you get cooler than being called Riptide?)
Bio: Oft regarded as a "torrent" on the field, a "vortex" that defenders find themselves unable to escape from, and various other nautical puns to illustrate how good Riptide is at being an immovable object. Along with her sister Brimstone (see below), they form an absurdly solid core for the Karditani o-line that ensures Tzeench has as much time as they need to pontificate on the poor options set before them. In her studies, Riptide spends much of her time on expeditions to San Dineighgo's beaches and their nearby coral reefs. When asked why she didn't just go to a university in San Dineighgo she replied that "it was too bougie; either be real or be posh." Can't argue that that describes the areas around Hoofstra well.

C Lothar Matheus
Major: Economics [International Finance]
Year: Junior
Nickname: The Kraut
Bio: Lothar has long bragged about how his "Ranorian blood" gives him a competitive edge in gridiron, despite there being no record of his ancestors actually having arrived from Ranoria. Admittedly, the records are incomplete, so we can't say for sure they didn't—but considering there was no period of Karditani history where Ranorians made up a noticeable percentage of immigrants, it seems like a very suspect claim. He also says his "mixed blood" is what gave him the interest in the wider world, and thus lead to his specialization within economics. All his peers considering him a blowhard but have to admit he snaps balls competently.

LG Brimstone Trident
Major: Engineering [Dutch]
Year: Sophomore
Nickname: n/a (how were their parents so good at naming?)
Bio: The left hook to complement Riptide, Brimstone is a formidable foe for any defensive lineman to stare down. See her sister's bio above to get a description of their effectiveness at protecting the pocket together. Studies coastal management and artificial land creation, and recently became the chair of Hoofstra's oddly popular "Dykes 4 Dikes" club.

LT Sunless Skies
Major: History [Grand Pegasus Enclave]
Year: Senior
Nickname: Sunny (hates it)
Bio: A distant and reclusive soul, but one who recognizes his athletic ability and is determined to make use of it. Fills the odd role that Karditani LTs typically do as pseudo-tight ends; more nimble than a typical lineman and ready to dash out on a short route should the opportunity present itself. Studies a long-dormant Equestrian nation inhabited almost entirely by pegasi, built in the clouds and drifting over the region. For one reason or another the Enclave tended to find themselves embroiled in international incidents with neighbors Karditan and Dragoria quite often; the records and impacts of those incidents is Sunless' primary area of focus.
