A closer than expected win starts us off

Image
It wasn't pretty but the 30th ranked Brains pulled it off

Chicken King Stadium welcomed The Desiccated States an unranked team for both teams opening game of the tournament and unlike in years past Kohnhead actually started out with a 1 in the win column following a closer than expected 30-23 win. An original thought of the 30 points that were scored by the team is that Jackson Watford the quarterback who has been facing a decent amount of scrutiny heading into this tournament responded to those criticisms with a great game. That however is not really the case as evidenced by his lackluster stats going 17-32 for 192 yards with two touchdowns but three interceptions.

TDS as we will be referring to them from now on for ease on myself received the opening kickoff although there was some confusion regarding this as the opponent for some reason had thought the purpose of the coin toss was to recover the coin before the other team. That's how our five captains sent out there ended up on the ground way before the first whistle had been blown. Because of this the referees awarded us the coin toss victory and like normal we chose to defer hoping to get a quick stop.

The Ensign and Quarterback of their team Jarntyr Mornwulf looked decent on the first drive and they drove down the field rather quickly although most of that was due to a long pass interference committed by Percy Whitehead. He has struggled immensly with penalties in the past and this time after getting beat down the field all he could do was attack Ahnah Tuuluuwaq the intended receiver as opposed to attempting to make a play on the ball. This blatant pass interference was called as much and go Mornwulf and the TDS offense lots of yards. Ultimately a big 2 yard loss on 3rd and 1 from our 25 with Josef Travis getting his first ever national team tackle and tfl forced them into kicking a 40 yard field goal. Sundew Twinklefeather converted it from 40 and this one was right down the middle which might give you an indictation that she is a good kicker however that statement would not hold up over the course of the game.

Next up it would be the Jackson Watford led offense that would take the field but despite this being a passing offense for basically the entire first half we committed to running the ball and it proved pretty successful. The offense would slowly yet steadily march down the field with Deacon, Butler, and a touch of Whitworth being the recipe for the long drive. Watford would go 1-3 on the drive with his only completion being a 5 yard one on 3rd and 5th to Albie Terry getting the rook his first ever catch and to successfully move the chains.

The drive would end in a field goal but we knew we could have gotten more from it as from their 39, Marco Polisson beat Tom Rudd with a double move down the sideline and was open enough for an easy touchdown but Watford overthrew the diving Polisson and we had failed to get the six points. The Polisson-Rudd battle was one to watch as Tom Rudd would limit Polisson decently well although he got beat deep a couple of times.

Eventually Deacon's effort on 3rd and 4th in the redzone would be stopped well short and we would have to settle for a 30 yard field goal from Wanda Parkinson to tie the game at three. The second quarter would see our offense spend most of the time with the ball as TDS couldn't get anything going and our defense looked on fire early on. We would open up the playbook some more giving Watford some more throws while continuing to pound away on the ground.

Aside from the drive started by the forced fumble on Edgallin Hendra with the Lieutenant getting stripped by Espinosa and Haney dove on it to give us the ball at their 12 we really struggled to score in the redzone. A 10 yard strike to Billy James to put us at the 2 saw us score on the play after with Jackson Watford electing to pitch the ball on a triple option and Kaitlin Deacon found the endzone on a play taken out of the Kohnhead City playbook. A trend quickly emerged on our other drives of the second quarter, we would drive down the field using a mixture of runs and passes and convert some key first downs before reaching the redzone where the run game would stall and we couldn't gain anything. Then Wanda Parkinson would come in and kick short field goals (two in the quarter from 28 and 27) knowing that we could have and should have scored more.

A missed field goal from Twinklefeather and no other real scoring chances for TDS had us rolling and up 16-3 at halftime against an unranked team that had showed an inability to compete with us thus far. However we were hit with some unfortunate news at the break that top running back Kaitlin Deacon who had scored our only touchdown had been ruled out of the game with an elbow injury. We now know that the injury will likely not lose her any games but could limit her in the next couple of matches and she has been ruled questionable for our clash with 4th ranked Ko-oren.

Maybe it was the injury or maybe it was something Watford said to Sparks but whatever the reason was our offensive philosophy really changed in the second half and not for the better in my opinion. While the run heavy by committe approach had only netted us 16 points we had double the possession and looked like the better team. Watford despite his complaints had a very efficient half going 9-13 for 72 yards and no scores but he had no interceptions which was the big thing.

However Watford was not happy with the lack of throwing that he got in the first half and in the second half we opted for a more pass heavy approach. Official reports will talk about how the Deacon injury and Watford's good play in the first half as the reasons for this but I wonder how much say Jackson Watford has in play calling and this.

Whatever the reason is Watford threw the ball a lot more in the second half but was a lot less successful and efficient going 8-19 for 120 yards and of course two touchdowns and the three picks. Our first drive was definitely the most successful with Watford going 3-4 with 27 yards and his first touchdown of the day which was an 11 yard strike to Maggie Brown on a slant out of the slot.

Up 23-3 it looked as if Kohnhead would get that victory we were talking about earlier but things got worse, a lot worse. TDS found the end zone on their next drive but Twinklefeather who had already missed a field goal back in the second quarter hit the upright and had it doink in to make it a 23-10 game. Still a big lead and most of that drive came off of a 51 yard rush from Noah Mindiron showing it might have been an anomaly. They were scoring due to big plays and without those our defense had been completely dominant.

Unfortunately for us, Jackson Watford went into turnover mode and on our next drive he would throw one over the middle intended for Marco Polisson who beside buring Rudd deep before an overthrow on our first drive hadn't done much the entire game. The throw would be a poor floater into double coverage and Tom Rudd would get the first interception of the day and would return it five yards to give TDS some more hope as we looked vulnerable.

Fortunately our defense held and on 3rd and 7 at our 32, Mornwulf would return the favor given to TDS as Shane Holman would pick him off and give Kohnhead the ball back and returned it all the way to the 50. 2 plays later, Butler now serving as the primary back with the injury to Deacon would pick up 37 on a big run that would bring us into the redzone again. However Jackson Watford did not feel like scoring a touchdown and so he gave the ball back to the other team more specifically threw an interception to Xian Jie in the endzone to give them a touchback and the ball back.

This time our defense couldn't make up for it and TDS would march down the field converting one fourth down in the process and make it a one possession game with Neamfinh Zodaktec's 18 yard score. Unfortunately for them Twinklefeather who hit the upright and had it doink in last time was not as luck this time and once again hit the upright only to have it bounce out this time.

Just like that the 23-3 lead we had built up had turned into a 23-16 game with the offense looking absolutely horrific, and it wouldn't stop there. Watford would have his third straight drive with an interception although this time it wasn't on him as Polisson just had this one go right through his hands and into the hands of Rudd once again who picked up his second interception on the game.

TDS would drive decently far but lined up for a 51 yard field goal after stalling out. While odds are Twinklefeather might have missed, Espinosa was taking no chances and rushed in leaping like a warrior to block it and got a finger on it keeping it a 23-16 game. Then on the next drive Watford finally connected with Polisson deep who got a 43 yard touchdown to boost both of their stats and give us a 30-16 lead that we would not be losing even though TDS got another seven with Mornwulf taking it in for the score.

Overall this is a poor start to the tournament for Jackson Watford and while if Kohnhead want any hope at advancement or of upsetting Ko-oren after going 0-2 against them in World Bowl XL he and the team need to play better. Sparks has reiterated Watford is most definitely our quarterback no matter how poorly he played today and believes he still has that elite play in him. In other group news, a Saint Kanye loss to unranked South Newlandia has really opened up the ground and as it stands Kohnhead are in first place however a trip to 4th ranked Ko-oren looms for next weekend and we could be without our top running back although signs point to her being okay.

This is an excerpt taken from an episode of "Gridiron Plights", Squidroidia's main gridiron football podcast.

"...Speaking of roads, Squidroidia's Road to Chromatika began with kick off for World Bowl XLI, traveling away to play against Gamaliel Stat- Oh I'm sorry, Tumbra's national team at the Gamaliel State University Field. A newcomer to gridiron football, the first thing you expect from them is a hard loss, which is evidently something you don't talk to Appalachian Nation's team as they shocked Banija in overtime. Back on topic, the Squidroidian supporters who traveled all the way to Tumbra and outnumbered the local supporters-"

"Wait, you mean that they outnumbered the Tumbran supporters? AWAY FROM INKOPOLIS?"

"Turns out they don't really care about the World Bowl."

"So the team sucked, right?"

"Yes they did, Soda. Yes they did. A 35-18 win for the Flyers starts off their campaign with top honors in Group B thanks to this one weird trick I couldn't figure out for the life of me until I actually read the box score - They went for 2. Like, they were PADDING their stats with 2 point conversions. 2 of them, you know, actually made it through, but that last one was a complete misfire... Otherwise known as dropping the ball in the end zone."

"It's ONLY their first game this season and they do that?"

"Guess they really wanted to win hard over Tumbra. They don't even know what a World Bowl is."

"Well these Tumbran supporters need to have some time to let us explain to them what the World Bowl is, and THEN pummel them at home when the second half of the season kicks off!"

"Alright, alright, let's do the box scores then... Everything seems normal apart from the Playoffs hosts Chromatika getting the Fleftics kicked in them and Appy Nation's OT win over Banija, but look at Northwest Kalactin in Group H, a 43-9 drubbing against Sword Island away."

"I'm more interested to see how the heck South Newlandia beat the Yeezies. From what I tell they don't seem to be happy with that result, they're one of the powerhouse gridiron teams and they proceeded to get Newlandia'd. Insane."

"Soda, you might be correct on that. Anyways, moving on to college football and the SAF Squidbreak..."

The title defense begins!
By Hannah Rafferty- SS

Two years ago still seems like yesterday.
That amazing feeling to know that you truly are a World Champion, by winning on this great stage of the World Bowl is something that I will cherish forever. There are some that think there are bigger trophies out there to win, and I do not need to get into that. When you grow up playing football, this football, nothing could be bigger. People joke with me as to whether or not our World Bowl 40 championship got overshadowed by our baseball team winning World Baseball Classic 50 on home turf not too long afterwards. That was something special, and I can relate to what was going through the minds of those baseball players. It was a fantastic double for us, and right as of this moment, we are still the reigning champions in each. We can’t win everything, so when we get knocked out in the round of 16 in the World Cup, for example, it serves as a reminder for how fortunate we are to win what we have won.

Many of us attended the World Baseball Classic games, and I got the chance to throw out the first pitch for one of the games. Jokingly if you missed it, Brooke Talley, who was near home plate, jumped in front of the catcher and intercepted my pitch to her. So, that was a rare time that you can say a defensive back was intercepted by a wide receiver. The baseball game was just a part of many appearances that we all made immediately after the championship. After the baseball team won, a lot of those appearances were together with them, so we got the chance to get to know them a lot better. I had already known a lot of them, but to do it while you are celebrating championships, together, makes it even more special. I do have one regret, though, and that is that we did not get the special NSSCRA paint scheme on one of those fast race cars like the baseball team did. Maybe we should call Dagan Airways and suggest that we get one, too!

Things returned to normal for us, and we eventually went back to our families and turned our focus back to our domestic sides. I felt a little bad when I had to lay out Alexa Schultz with a big hit in one of our games, but she bounced back up. I wouldn’t expect anything less of her, but it was a little different to cover her after the last World Bowl and all of the victory stuff that we were doing, then it was in some of the previous World Bowls. Now, we are back at it, this time as a favorite. We were not a favorite the last time out, but everyone remembers who won the last one, and especially when their starting strong safety keeps talking about it right now in her blog. That’s ok that we have a target on our back, though, that is how we want it. Most of this team is returning, that’s what happens when a young team wins a title, we’re all ready to have another shot and would love to repeat.

We will use that word a lot this year, but you have to take things slow. There are eight games to play in the group stage, against some pretty good teams, and then the playoffs will be even more strenuous. Take it slow, and take care of the little things. We did that well in the 32-20 win over Sarzonia, a nation with a deep history. There are some nations that you don’t even look at their ranking. They are Sarzonia. They have a deep history in sports, and that will continue into football. Taylor Crimmins and the offense did a great job with four total touchdowns. Schultz and Talley each caught one. We went for a two-point conversion after the second one due to the defensive penalty, and also to show that we will take some risks here and there, and we were able to capitalize on it. I didn’t have any picks, but Kelsey Rocker got one, so she leads me by one right now. We take pride on the interceptions leaderboard for personal bragging rights. You have to have fun in this. It’s a little easier to do that when you are winning. Bring on the next opponent, Xanneria!

Elephants upset Surges to kick off the World Bowl strong!

The Elephants had the luxury of playing their first ever game at home in Elephant Field. Drawing a solid attendance, this World Bowl team was facing the number 12 of the world, the heavy favourites from Saint Kanye. Coincidentally, that’s also where the Elephants’ uniforms were designed.
The Surges are, like the Elephants, playing a 3-4 system on defense, but are otherwise very different. While the Elephants play extremely conservative, the Surges like to pass, to blitz, and to go riskier routes. They won the toss, and were handed the ball first.

Highlights:

1st STK with the ball at the STK 48
1st and ten for the Surges here on the opening drive, and Linetti will hand it off to Noah Sherman who has some room up the middle, makes a man miss, dodges another tackle, now brought down by Corban Farmer, and the ball is loose! Was he down? Suarez manages to secure the ball near the Elephants’ 35, they’re going to look at it.
[…]
And it’s confirmed a fumble! Elephants take over!

1st SNL with the ball at the SNL 37
3rd and seven coming up for the Elephants after the Surges look well against the first two runs, Stein will hand it off again, Giovanni Read tries to spin out of a tackle and does, gets some yardage, but brought down short of the marker. Here comes the punting unit.

1st SNL with the ball at the SNL 32
Cristian Ballard will punt the ball here on 4th and two, and that one is long, Greg Malloy making steps back, and the ball bounces away from him! Great luck here for the Elephants, the ball bounces out at the Surges fifteen.

1st STK with the ball at the STK 12
3rd and 13 for Saint Kanye, Linetti drops back, Elephants bring some pressure for the first time today! Rush gets through on the side, and it’s going to be the first sack of the day! Saint Kanye all the way back at their own six will have to punt.

1st SNL with the ball at the STK 21
3rd and eight for the Elephants after a solid drive so far. Stein will try to drop back, looking for a receiver, pocket holds steady, Stein looks for Dhruv Valentine, and the ball falls incomplete; but there’s a flag on the play! Holding against the Elephants maybe; no! It’s pass interference called here against the Surges, I’m not so sure about that. First down for the Elephants right in the red zone!
1st SNL with the ball at the STK 4
2nd and 3 for the Elephants now, with one more yard to go; Stein keeps it on the play action, looking for Antonio Kinney, who makes the catch! Touchdown Elephants, the first points of the game!
[…]
Abdul Corbett squares up to kick the first extra point in South Newlandian football history, usually very solid from short yardage, here comes the snap, good hold, and the kick is blocked! A surge managed to get a hand on it, great play on Special Teams for Saint Kanye as they hold the Elephants to just six.

2nd STK with the ball at the 50
It’s third and eight for the Surges, here comes a pass, Linetti throws outside, but Jayden-James Norton breaks up the pass intended for Bruce Dobler. Looks like the Surges will send the punting unit.

2nd SNL with the ball at the SNL 45
Second and ten for the Elephants, looking for some yards, Stein keeps it, here comes the Blitz, Stein under pressure, goes down, sack by Matt Dawson, and the ball comes out! Bounces backwards, a scramble, and it looks like the Elephants have recovered, that’s Charley McArthur with the ball, but that will give them third and twenty-three.

2nd STK with the ball at the SNL 13
Surges putting together a great drive, now with a good chance to score, it’s 1st and ten and Linetti is looking deep for Patrick Moore, the ball is tipped, right into the hands of Corban Farmer, who comes down with it in the end zone! The Surges with bad luck again, South Newlandia back in possession, with the ball at their own twenty.

2nd SNL with the ball at the SNL 19
3rd and 11, the Elephants can’t quite get anything together on this drive, Stein hands it off again, Diego Holland on the carry gets stuffed! Great tackle there, puts the Elephants even further back, here comes another punt. About a minute left on the clock, the Surges will take their second timeout of the half.
2nd STK with the ball at the SNL 31
Saint Kanye now without timeouts with seconds on the clock, they’ll look to chip away at the lead as James Rasputin will try a 48-yarder; snap is good, kick is up and through! The Surges cut the deficit in half just before half-time.

3rd SNL with the ball at the SNL 27
It’s the first possession of the second half, and Stein will have to throw here with eight to go. Stein looking, no one gets open, and the Quarterback goes down! Surges get through, Robby Edison with the sack.

3rd STK with the ball at the SNL 6
Saint Kanye back into the red zone on a great drive, it’s second and goal, good chance to take the lead. Linetti looking, and there’s a hit from the blindside! Ball comes loose, and the Elephants have it! Antony Archer comes up with it, a big play for the Elephants while the Surges turn it over in the red zone again.

3rd SNL with the ball at the STK 43
1st and ten for South Newlandia inside the opponent’s half, we haven’t seen that since the touchdown. Stein takes the snap and drops back, play action, looking deep for Christian Perry, ball goes over his head, and there’s a penalty marker! It’s going to be another pass interference call here, another big one for the Elephants!

3rd SNL with the ball at the STK 14
Fourth and six for the Elephants, no ground to be found, and they will be kicking a field goal here. 31-yard attempt for Corbett, he had a kick blocked earlier. Kick is up, and right through the middle. South Newlandia up by six again.

3rd STK with the ball at the STK 39
Third and seven for the Surges, who are looking to convert this; play action, pass to Patrick Moore is.. dropped. No luck for Saint Kanye yet again, another punt probably coming.

3rd SNL with the ball at the STK 47
South Newlandia in possession just before the end of the third quarter, it’s 3rd and 13, and Robert Stein is going to look for Perry again; deep ball, right into double coverage, is picked off by Oliver Law back at the 21.

4th STK with the ball at the STK 49
Saint Kanye driving, looking for the third and three here, a hand-off, but Noah Sherman can’t get very far, stopped right at the 50. The Surges line up to go for it on 4th and two here, needing a conversion. Linetti takes it, quick pass out to Sherman, looking to stretch to the marker; and… might’ve gotten there? They’re going to need to measure this.
[…]
They’re not going to give it to them! South Newlandia takes over near midfield!

4th SNL with the ball at SNL 41
Third and 17 for the Elephants after another sack, looking to get out of this somehow, a hand-off to Read, he gets a few yards, but gets stopped right before the 50. Here comes the punting team again!

4th STK with the ball at SNL 28
Linetti, here on third and ten, looking for a first down again, pass attempt, tries to find Bruce Dobler, but the play is broken up. Nothing there for the Surges, and they’ll now kick a field goal to chip away at the lead.
[…]
It’s an attempt from 45 yards out, he’s hit one from 48 earlier; and this one makes it through as well. Saint Kanye back within three!

4th SNL with the ball at the STK 38
Fourth and three after an incompletion here, and the Elephants have taken their first time-out of the half with about two minutes to play, Saint Kanye has two timeouts remaining, and… they’re sending the punting unit! They’ve practiced short punts, but still, that’s quite a decision to make. The Drawkian coach doesn’t exactly look happy with the situation here. Cristian Ballard takes the snap, punt is in the air and goes out of bounds near the Surges five.

4th STK with the ball at the STK 47
Three seconds on the clock and no timeouts, and Linetti is going to go for the Hail Mary here. One last chance to win it, airs it out, in the air, might have the length, still in the air, but batted down by Taylor Suarez! And that will end it, the Elephants hang on to deliver the big upset, 9-6 over the Surges! The Elephants will travel to play the Desiccated States, the other unranked team of the group, next. I don’t know exactly how that place works, but I don’t really have to, either. That’s going to do it here.

HUElavia begins WB XLI with a solid victory!

Silvedania 7-29 HUElavia

HUElavia enters the World Bowl looking to develop the team and win matches in order to improve the team's standing. The team was wearing their new all-white away uniforms for the match, and they looked to play well. Here's the commentary highlights of the match by Arthur Alves de Assunção and Michael Paradis:

Arthur Alves de Assunção: "With the ball on the tee, we welcome you to this evening's game, and hopefully it can be a good one. Sanchez kicks the ball and we're underway for World Bowl XLI! The kick goes back for a touchback."

AAA: First down from the 25, REDACTED puts it in motion... Sends a deep ball through... And It's caught by REDACTED. He's out of bounds for the 1st."
Michael Paradis: "Great throw by REDACTED, where REDACTED just went past Amor and Morreti to catch the ball and go out for the first."

AAA: "1st and goal from the 8... REDACTED gives the ball to REDACTED... and he runs it in for a score, Touchdown Silvedania!"

AAA: "REDACTED kicks the ball off, and it's caught by Correia, caught it deep in the endzone and he runs it out... Gets past one, and another! He's gotten past everyone! No body will catch him, and he runs it for 107 yards! Touchdown HUElavia!"
MP: "What a play by the returner, he just slid through them with ease and he goes to the house!"

AAA: REDACTED with the ball, Silvedania 1st and 10 at the 20. He throws it... AND IT'S INTERCEPTED! BY BOWMAN! 1st and 10 for HUElaiva with excellent position.
MP: He was just lurking there and once REDACTED threw the ball, he followed through and picked it off with ease.

AAA: Gomez puts the ball in motion, gives it to Jaguar, and he's going past one and another! He's taken down at the 1 yard line!

AAA: HUElavia is going to play now... Gomez leaps and gets the sneak in! Touchdown HUElavia!
MP: What a great QB sneak by Gomez, he really leaped up to get the score, and now he's made it 14-7.

AAA: It's a few seconds left in the 2nd, Silvedania wants to get points before the half ends... REDACTED sends the ball in motion... He's throwing it deep into the endzone... INTERCEPTED! Aspas got the pick! And it's 1st and 10 from the 25, with a second left!
MP: Great coverage from the HUElavian defense once again, they just covered the players and... right there Aspas just leaped up to snatch the ball from REDACTED to end the half.

AAA: Here we are halfway in the 3rd quarter, 1st and 10 for HUElavia, Gomez sets the ball in motion. throws it to Ling, and he's got room to run! He's going to the 50, to the 40! Taken down by REDACTED for the 1st at the 32 yard line.
MP: Great play from Gomez, sees everyone deep is covered, and he sees Ling, the backup tight end open and he throws it and gets plenty of space to gain yards.

AAA: Gomez sets the ball in play, gives it to Tonegawa, he's trucking through defenders! He's going to lunge forward for the 1st down!
MP: Great play from Tonegawa, he really just ran over the defenders and just fought for every inch.

AAA: Gomez sets the ball in motion, it's a pass... Throws it to the corner and it's caught by Gallegos! Did he keep the feet in...? The referees are calling it a score! Touchdown HUElavia!
AAA: REDACTED has thrown a challenge flag for the play, thinking he was out of bounds, let's see what the referee says.
REF: After reviewing the play, the receiver had both feet inbound, therefore the call stands, it is a touchdown. Silvedania will be charged with a timeout for the failed challenge.
MP: Well there you go.

AAA: REDACTED needs to get a miracle going, it's 21-7, and it's not looking good here in the 4th quarter. He snaps the ball... Throws it middle of the field... AND IT'S INTERCEPTED! BY ROUX! He's running in for the easy score! Touchdown HUElavia!
MP: Again, the coverage is HUElavia's strength, and Roux just was lurking in the middle as a QB Spy, and he just yoinked the ball, nobody was near him and he just ran it in for the score.
AAA: The team is looking to add to insult for Silvedania, they're going for 2! Gomez sets the ball, gives it to Moreno... and he's in for 2! It's 29-7!
MP: Great play by the fullback, just trucking through for the score.

AAA: And that'll do it. 29-7 for the opening game for HUElavia! We'll see you in a few for the game back in HUElavia!
MP: Great game all around, this is the kind of start the team needs.

The next match will be at Estadio Salvador in Sao Salvador, where the team will play in their Home Uniform for the Home Opener, and the Yellow Endzone will be used for the game. Here's to hoping what can be a fun game at home!

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

THE ROCKET REPORT

NEW COACH, NEW ROCKETS?

By Taylor Larson,

My predecessor, Brianne Henry, often criticized Marvin Dineen for his unimaginative play calling. She was right, as the “in the box” nature of Dineen did not lead to an exciting offense, and often, to many drives that stalled in the red zone. That is, if they were fortunate to move the ball down the field to even get inside the 20. Dineen continued to be brought back as the head coach of the Rockets, as he was able to fall back on his past laurels of bringing us to the World Bowl 34 title game time and time again. Marvin was liked by the players, though we were not sure why exactly. Brianne Henry often begged for Dineen to be let go, and that was something that was not like her. In fact, Brianne very rarely criticized our coaches at all. In the World Bowl, though, it was too easy to pick on Dineen. Brianne retired as our featured writer after World Cup 86, but I can let you know that she is excited that finally, the Rockets have a new football coach. Enter Bryan Moore of the Putnam Lake Eagles. Will this mean the team does better?

The easiest thing to do would be to look at Moore’s history with the Eagles, but Putnam Lake is a defensive minded team. Only one member of the Eagles offense will be a part of the World Bowl, and that is backup center Troy Hamilton. Defensively, there are three Eagles on the team, including young stud linebacker Bryce Miller, who should have a bright future in the World Bowl. If we were looking for a coach to come in here with an expansive playbook on offense, then Moore is not the one to do that. Of course, maybe he is. The Eagles don’t have the playmakers on the team that this team will. Stephon Sutton made his debut in the last World Bowl and was one of the bright spots of the team. The deep threat could have his number called upon more often this time out, though he will still have Brian Scanlon throwing him the ball. Scanlon is a pocket passer with a strong arm, and we hope to see Scanlon to Sutton highlights quite often. The more interesting newcomer to running back Chase Hartley. The 22-year old is going to be featured already, and anyone who has watched him play in Tundra Falls knows that his overall skill set allows him to be useful in many different capacities. Moore’s decision to go with him over older options may mean that he is going to find many uses for Hartley, so that could be exciting. Otherwise, there is not a lot of change to the starters on offense, but there is a significant amount of turnover to the personnel listed as the backups. It could stand to reason that we will see many of these players get more snaps then Dineen would for his starters.

Defensively, there has been more turnover, and that is surprising considering that the defense was the strength of the team for the last two World Bowls. Moore is a defensive coach, so he knows something about putting together the right personnel on that side of the football. Though clearly, he was favoring youth. The secondary is very inexperienced in terms of World Bowl play, but they are good enough to be able to make the adjustments. We will soon see what all of this means. Newmanistan had a bye in matchday 1, and kicks off their campaign at home against Delaclava.

Chromatik Football League, Season 2

The Lynx and Cyan are doing well, but will they continue to be the best teams in the CFL?

Week 3
Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 | Tot
Knetyohai Icebreakers 3 0 0 0 | 3
Qet Lynx 3 7 0 0 | 10
Qet continues to be the last undefeated team, and Jones turns in a decent enough performance, adding a QB sneak as needed.

Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 OT | Tot
Deprí Lanar Turtles 7 0 7 0 0 | 14
Brisara Juggernauts 7 7 0 0 7 | 21
Sandra Hamilton comes through in the clutch in overtime.

Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 | Tot
Alnio Pirates 0 0 7 10 | 17
Chromatik City Cyan 0 0 0 0 | 0
What? Jill Kieran throwing three picks and the Cyan shut out? Give credit to Pirates defensive coordinator William Gresham, who had a foolproof plan.

Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 OT | Tot
Staramara Angels 0 0 0 3 9 | 12
Deprí Sanar Battalion 0 0 0 3 3 | 6
A tight match the whole way through, the Angels are really coming together. Ben Vince got to play, though, and his walk-off touchdown to Norman Walters was a thing of beauty.
Week 4
Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 | Tot
Qet Lynx 0 6 7 6 | 19
Deprí Sanar Battalion 0 0 0 3 | 3
Player of the game: Lynx linebacker Nolan Marr. He may be thirty, but he can still play. Fifteen tackles, three of them for a loss, two forced fumbles, one interception. Dominating performance.

Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 | Tot
Chromatik City Cyan 3 3 3 3 | 12
Staramara Angels 0 7 3 7 | 17
Ben Vince for MVP? The Angels QB has accounted for three touchdowns in the last two weeks, though it can also be argued the Angels defense also shined - holding the Cyan to no offensive touchdowns is a feat indeed. Just what is wrong with Chromatik City (one of the last remaining teams to not rename to Chromia)?

Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 | Tot
Brisara Juggernauts 7 7 8 7 | 29
Alnio Pirates 7 0 0 0 | 7
Fowler rushes for a pair, Hamilton throws for another two, and the Juggernauts live to be their namesake.

Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 | Tot
Knetyohai Icebreakers 0 0 0 3 | 3
Deprí Lanar Turtles 0 3 7 3 | 13
First win of the season for the Turtles as Ming Nyuen has a punt return for the game's only touchdown; the Icebreakers are so flat, still without a win.

Abahnfleft Shuts Down Chromatika, Establishing Themselves as the Clear Threat to Ranoria's 22 Game Streak of Group Stage Victories

We didn't expect Chromatika, a nation host to Cold Hill's newest rival in Felswyr State, would go down in the fashion they did. A 20-0 beatdown by Abahnfleft's national team showed that the latter has their eyes on the group's title, something Ranoria cannot afford to relinquish. Of course, we knew we were going to get a run for our money when we drew this group. Chromatika, as displayed by their storming of the NSCF through Felswyr State last season, is rich with football talent, and their national team reflects that. Abahnfleft's team is a perennial powerhouse, and of course HUElavia is good at, well, just about everything.

HUElavia's national team is certainly up to snuff, having cruised to a win against Silvedania in a 29-7 victory. In a ten game slate, such wins are important to ensure that a team isn't having to fight tooth and nail to dig themselves out of a hole. They'll get a bye this next week to watch as Chromatika, almost certainly, bounces back against Silvedania and we get the second heavyweight matchup in this group in as many weeks.

Abahnfleft will travel to the Karmin Falce Superdome. After their shutout victory over Chromatika, it'll be an early test of our John Garrett led offense. It should be noted that a good number of Abanhfleft's linemen on both sides of the ball appear to be undersized on paper, but I would like to assure the fanbase that is not the case. While tackles Abram Paradise and Jesus Hurd along with defensive tackles Bryce Abella and Colton Fazon are the only starters listed on those units as above six foot, their linemen still consistently clock in at over two hundred eighty pounds. And while length and size are certainly an advantage, their shorter stature will provide a unique challenge of handling leverage for our Krauts's more prototypical, big man-filled fronts.

How does this Ranoria team differ from the last couple? Our Group Stage Success hasn't exactly translated into rings, thus far

This Krauts team looks a lot different from a season ago. With a very much reshuffled defensive line, the team is going to have to adjust a bit, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. After all, as dominant as Zach Skinner was off the edge for us a season ago, (6 sacks in as many games) we got an upgrade: Angelo Gordon. Between these two lining up as starters, and Emmanuel Miller and William Teller (9 and 8.5 sacks last world bowl, respectively), our pass rush is set up to be a machine of a unit.

Outside of that, we've gotten a bit younger at the skill positions. Vasily Schmidt is the first ever college player to participate on our World Bowl squad, a 6'7", 270 pound tight end out of Vricksinburg State. A sophomore of just 20 years, Schmidt will be foregoing his paycheck until he declares for the RFL draft, which should be soon. He's being called the school's best offensive player ever, and will be Johnny Farmer's running mate. Those fans who saw Garrett in his time at Richardson know he likes to go to his tight ends, and it will be interesting to see the kind of volume this kid gets with a future hall of famer like Farmer in front of him.

And on the outside, replacing the Krauts's top wideout over the past three seasons, is Calvin Hale. Another Richardson University product, he's fluid and athletic with plus size and route running on his resume. Expect him to draw plenty of deep shots in this offense. With Mario Terrin, long time #2 receiver, starting to lose a step of his youthful freakishness, it's nice to have that infusion of youth. And of course, we already talked about adding Angelo Gordon to the mix on a nasty defensive line.

With John Garrett at the helm, we're going to see a lot more throws from the pocket. He's broken the passing touchdowns record twice with that style of play, and while he can certainly move well and flash his athleticism, his preference is very clearly to play the game from between the tackles.

Now you might be asking, "That's great, Derek McNair was a phenom, though. Is Garrett better than him?" Good question, and we're not sure we have an answer! #7 is a legend in Ranoria, and a two time MVP himself. Certainly, Garrett had loftier passing numbers, but McNair finished a hall of fame career with 6,200 rushing yards in an all-too-brief eight year stretch. More impressively, he'd end his cut-short career top 10 all time in passing yards.

But not having an answer, that's okay. Because Garrett doesn't have to be as good as McNair. Remember, this squad went to the championship on the back of some guy named Jeremiah Quill, who didn't play quarterback until college and hadn't taken an RFL snap until two seasons ago. (with little success, mind you) As long as our beloved Farmboy stays healthy, we have no reason to believe that our Krauts can't be the favorite to win it all this go-around.

Image
John Garrett, Indianapolos Hogs and Ranorian Krauts Quarterback, with his head coach after a regular season finale victory secured a playoff bid for the Hogs

And that's a good thing, because a lot of you readers are apt to point out that Garrett had the worst statistical season of his career, and it wasn't even close. After opening his career with four straight seasons of a whopping 4,200+ yards, and never throwing ten or more picks, Garrett went down with a shoulder injury on the first drive of a week one loss. The team would slip to an embarrassing 1-5 in his absence, and when Farmboy did return, it appeared that he wasn't anywhere near the top of his game. Garrett would struggle statistically, averaging just over 250 passing yards per game, with just eighteen touchdowns to a whopping twelve interceptions. But stats only go so far to determine a quarterback's performance.

Why do we say that? Well, the Hogs would rattle off nine wins of their next ten with their star at the helm, enough to get them into the playoffs. They were dropped in the first round, dominated by the Nashville Sabercats, but it's still a legendary moment in the young career of our newest World Bowl quarterback. That said, if he can play closer to what he's been able to do as pro in his first four seasons, we'll have all the points we could ask for and more.

And with that, you all know how we finish off! Go Krauts!

BCSG- Banijan Collegiate Sports Group(Banijan equivalent of the NCAA)
RBSA- Royal Banijan Soccer Association(governing body for soccer)
BHF- Banijan Hockey Federation(governing body for ice hockey)
OCB- Olympic Committee of Banija(national Olympic Committee, governing body for all professional sports in Banija besides soccer and ice hockey)
BCGC- Banijan Commonwealth Games Council(national committee for the Commonwealth Games)

Banija's sporting bodies agree on three national sporting Hall of Fames within the country

Executives of a few of Banija's sporting bodies at a planning meeting

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- Banija's general sporting conference happens about once a year. Usually, these are fairly boring events from an outside perspective. We follow along as pros, of course. It's not a conference for athletes- but it's basically a networking and strategic conference between all the off-field employees and businessmen of the Banijan sporting verse. Accountants, marketers, etc... Basically all the suits. Many have credited that networking and solidarity between Banijans on why Banijans off the field have been so successful into getting onto executive positions for many sporting organizations- a Banijan, Adama Sowe, has just taken charge of the World Cup Committee. He chaired the Conference. Even FFFF President Alex Teran led a Farf delegation to the conference, showing the importance of the Shango-Fogoa Premier League in the sporting scene. It's an insular group- we are told that there has never been a foreign delegation invited to one of these before.

These are where the smoke filled rooms of Banijan sport lie. A few years ago, though, this conference is where hints of Banija's eventual successful Olympic bid with Liventia started to drop. So we pay attention. So there's nothing groundbreaking like that- OCB Chairman Ousman Kaba confirmed that, saying that "bringing the Olympiad to Banija is a generational event." But there was an interesting agreement reached. Going into the conference, there was debate on whether there should be a national sporting Hall of Fame. But of course, there's plenty of debate over that. Who gets to run it?

There was the idea, of course, that the Lukiiko would set the terms and get to run it. Naturally, these territorial executives hated that idea. But they all wanted to run it, on their own turf, on their ideas. So this year, they reached an agreement. There would be three national sporting hall of fames. Let's go through them.

The first- the College Athletics Hall of Fame. This will be located in Herzegovina City, Moravica. It will naturally recognize only contributions made during an athlete's time in college. It will be administered by the BCSG. Most importantly to them, college achievements should 'not' be considered eligible for the other two Hall of Fames. The BCSG's statement on the day said they got 'everything they wanted'. "This is what was fair. College sports are unique and valued in their own right. We're long overdue for a national college sporting Hall of Fame, and we will finally have one, encompassing all Banijan college sports at all levels." They have said they will deem eligible foreign athletes competing in Banijan college sports, as well as Banijan athletes competing abroad in competitions that include Banijan schools. Which, effectively, means that Banijan athletes competing for foreign schools in the NSCF or NSCAA are still eligible for this Hall of Fame.

The second will be the Olympic Committee Hall of Fame. This will be located in Istria, Moravica. This will cover all professional, Olympic, and Commonwealth Games sporting contributions of athletes in all sports, excluding soccer. The Banijan Hockey Federation shall operate the hockey section of this Hall of Fame. They will, of course, naturally be building a massive facility in Istria to house this Hall of Fame. OCB Chairman Ousman Kaba said that this was necessary. "It will be both a memorial to the Istria Olympiad, and a Hall of Fame for Banija's athletes across all sorts of sports. From gridiron, to track, to basketball, to whatever sport- it will be a tremendous palace to our nation's sporting achievements." The OCB, considering the huge mandate they have been given, has decided to limit membership to only Banijans who either represented the country in major international competition, or otherwise played for Banijan national teams.

The third will be the Banijan Soccer Hall of Fame. This will be located in Busukuma, National Capitol Region. This will cover all professional soccer contributions of athletes. Of course, considering the global nature of this sport, this is the most complicated. The RBSA will allow any Banijan athletes eligible to compete for the Banijan national team, no matter where you played club football- although you don't have to actually have played for the Kadongo Kamu. For non-Busogan foreign athletes, you have to have competed for a Banijan club for at least three full seasons. It is specified that playing for a Farf club in the S-FPL would not give one eligibility, although competing for a Busogan club would count towards eligibility. Busogan players are eligible after just one season competing for a Banijan or Busogan club. While Busogan players can have their whole career body of work be considered for Hall of Fame eligibilty, other foreign athletes will only have their time in Banija considered for eligiblity.

The Banijan Soccer Hall of Fame will also have a special section for "legends of the lower divisions." Players and coaches shall be eligible for this section if they compete in any tier besides the first tier for at least 3 seasons. RBSA Executive Chairman Robel Ezera said this was a great deal for Banijan soccer. "We have to remember our legends, and our heroes. This is a great way to do so. There are plenty of players and managers who have been indispensable to the growth of this sport in Banija, and this will be the best possible way to recognize them. We are glad an acceptable agreement was reached with our counterparts at the BCSG and the OCB."

An interesting day in the Kingdom, for sure. There's a lot of inductions to be made- who will be entered in?

Other News
- In "one of the ugliest football games" Coach Thomas Hall has ever been a part of, in his own words, Banija and the Appalachian Nation did not score once during regulation, going to overtime tied at 0. The field was in terrrible conditions, as a harsh downpour and a high wind gave way to a muddy mess on the field. In overtime, Banija got the ball on the first possession, immediately went 3 and out, and hit the post on the field goal. The Appalachian Nation got a 22 yard gain down to the 3, and immediately brought out the field goal unit, who kicked the game winner. Banija has a bye week to, in the words of Coach Hall, "fix their shit" on offense, before they welcome Squidroidia into town on Matchday 3.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

1 Week In
Knowing there was no time to waste in the fight to bring the government back, all the men who had been at the meeting got straight to work. They started to encourage the security workers to start wearing Kalactanian Government badges, and start to arrest known prisoners and hold them at the security companies. It wouldn’t happen overnight, it could take a few months for the government to ensure stability, and it could take over a year for things to return to normal, but it was progress. The Quebecois military had been especially helpful in Coffs, where they were establishing a base in exchange for helping to return order. The south would be an easy project, a heavily Conservative area that wanted order, they would accept the new rulers with happiness.

Zac Johnson for one, was confident in his ability, if he could ensure popularity on the nation, he may become the first ever leader of the nation, but that was the least of his concerns at the moment. The northern reaches of Kalactin would not be easy to control by any means, and he would have to put in extra effort to ensure order returning to the nation in a timely matter. He was also concerned about how he would regain economic control of the nation, with no taxes having been payed for a long time, they would need large profits to ensure a stable government funding for at least a year. Before he could start to tax the people, he would also need time to pass taxation laws for the nation, which he already had an idea of what he wanted.

Here is a summary of the proposed tax rates
Tax Brackets Proposed By Johnson
Income (In NSD)Tax Rate
0-12,00010%
12,001-30,00013.5%
30,001-75,00017%
75,001-200,00020%
200,001+24%

Along with this, Johnson has proposed a flat 15% Corporate Tax Rate, and a 3% National Sales Tax. Provinces would be open to making most of their own money, which means citizens would likely be paying at least a 5% Income Tax and a 6% Sales Tax, based on their income. Economic freedom is very important to keeping the Southern Areas support, although it is tough, due to the fact that they cannot allow too much in fear of losing the help of the Quebecois Naval support. Johnson however, does admit that none of this is guaranteed, and he will have to win the position of Prime Minister and have Multi-partisan support to pass these tax laws. If all goes well, the group plans the first elections for 9 months from now, giving at least a 3 month buffer period to organize elections, hopefully. It seems so close, but there is much work to do.

In a overall summary, it is looking good after 1 week. The south has maintained a large support for the government, and the business owners seem to be cooperating for a good government to come together. But there is much hard work left, they are less than a quarter way towards their goal, and the next planned elections may be coming fast. It’ll be hard, but it is necessary.

Shaky Phoenixes survive World Bowl opener
Goff and defense impress against Mapletish, but look to fix mistakes

Quinniville, STN -- Bosmond Bears quarterback Trent Goff threw 22-of-35 for 290 yards and two touchdowns in his international debut, and the Delaclava national team overcame sloppy play and defensive lapses to grind out a 30-17 win over Mapletish in front of a sell-out crowd at Sullivan Stadium.

"It was a rough time getting started, and that wasn't nearly good enough for what we want to do, or to get to Chromatika," coach Gorka Bielsa admitted. "But it was good enough for today, and sometimes all you can ask is just to walk out with a win on the scoreboard."

Even with the offense generating a respectable 30 points and 446 yards, it wasn't all smooth sailing. Goff was sacked five times and often hurried or rushed out of the pocket due to blown offensive line assignments, and was often forced to scramble or bail out failed options played as he and the running backs, Dexter George, and Mark Mayfield, seemed to fail to communicate.

It was rumored that there was friction between Goff and his Bears coaches - including Bielsa, offensive coordinator Shaun Selwyn, and father and QB coach Thomas Goff - but the younger Goff insisted that there was no intention behind any of the line's errors. "No, the guys on this team aren't like that. We're out here to win football games and that's it... we just haven't fully meshed together yet. It's our first game as a team. We'll be fine."

Goff failed to settle into his pocket on two consecutive three-and-out drives, but once the Dragons offense could fare no better - in large part due to two sacks by Quinniville Aces defensive end Allan Tolliver - Goff and George began to put together a drive past midfield, with George picking up 31 of his 108 yards, and Goff connecting with Hesam Karimloo and Chris Cardona on a series of short passes. The Phoenixes didn't run into a third down on the drive until they set up 3rd-and-4 on the 19 yard line. But Evan Obrien managed to slip past Cody Dean for the blind-side sack, bringing out Kieran Conley for the first points of the day.

After Tasunka Coleman intercepted the Dragons' Jimmy Edwards on the Phoenixes' 34-yard-line, Goff showed his aggression and killer instinct. Whereas most teams would have continued on through the second quarter, Goff found the Dragons' secondary on their heels and punished them, first finding Mateus Eldridge for a 25-yard gain up the middle, then hitting Kevin Alés on his corner route for a 31-yard touchdown. After the game, Alés marked the score as a turning point in the game. "We were all kind of on edge, knowing we should come out with a win, but we weren't exactly pulling away at first. Thinking, does this offense that we've put together work? Getting that first TD, things started to flow better."

The Phoenixes' drives indeed started to go deeper and deeper, with another Conley field goal bringing the score to 13-0, and the Mapletish offense seemed powerless to push back the defensive line, especially Tolliver and Prince Rose. But the Dragons caught a break as Delaclava center Alex McFadden misread a hard count and snapped the ball to an unsuspecting Goff, who could not recover the fumble and surrendered to Willis George at the 29-yard line. Mapletish could only scrounge six yards on the next three plays, but it was close enough for Kerry Bradley to put the unranked Dragons on the board with a 40-yard field goal.

"We were ahead but definitely still frustrated," Alés said of the halftime mood. "That's what some of us veterans are here though, talk everyone off the ledge. We had to keep trusting the flow of the game. Each drive was feeling better... Trent's a smart guy too, downloading the data on the defense throughout the first half. He was starting to read them perfectly. We just had to execute."

Eventually the Phoenixes did, with the Phoenixes stringing together their first sustained drive midway through the third quarter, which ended with a Goff shovel pass to Bryce Alford. With Mapletish threatening to overtake, the Alford score gave Delaclava a 20-10 lead and the Dragons never made the margin any closer. In the fourth quarter, Goff showed his game management abilities, leaning on George, Alford, and Mark Mayfield down the field, running down the clock as George made the score 30-10 with 5:52 remaining. Mapletish struck back on a blown coverage by free safety Tate Parker that left Irvin Mathis alone for a 78-yard reception from Edwards, but the Dragons never took the ball back.

"The crowd definitely let us hear it at the end," Alés, a Quinniville player himself, remarked. "It was great to have that support. Today wasn't easy and they carried us through."

The Phoenixes next travel to Pocono City, where they will greet Newmanistan in their own home opener at Emperor Michael I Stadium. And Alés believes the stress of opening the season in front of the home faithful gives the Phoenixes room for optimism against the ninth-ranked Rockets.

"We're already warmed up and battle tested. They're going into this cold, with fans cheering them on whom they won't want to disappoint. They're a strong team, but if they waver, we'll be there to claim the spoils for ourselves. And we'd love to get one back for our basketball team."

Alés is referring to the Delaclava national basketball team, who lost an International Basketball Championship group stage game in Arana to the #2 Rockets 90-72. Delaclava is hosting this 31st edition of the IBC, and with the Rockets and the Phoenixes both now in the semifinals of the tournament, a rematch is very much on the table.

Left tackle David Carlos, who was a freshman roommate of reserve point guard Obdulio Herrera at Straka State, said many of the gridiron Phoenixes have been watching the IBC with great interest, and hope to replicate their success in the World Bowl, "We've got a long way to go, obviously, they've put in a lot of work we haven't yet. But we see that it's a possibility with the right mentality.

"The world knows us as two-time World Bowl champions. We'd sure love to get a third."

Smosh Pit
This ain't a game, sonny.

By Jonathan Umadden

World Bowl XLI has begun, and our Ironworkers got off on the right hoof for a freshly-minted Pot 1 team (thanks for not entering, Main Nation Ministry and Terre Septentrionale!). A resounding 15-3 win over newcomers Smosh Games, who are projected to do as poorly in the World Bowl as they did in World Cup Qualifiers, is as easy a way as there is to ease back into the multiverse's grandest gridiron competition. The other matchday one bout in Group G featured the Transmondian Commonwealth of New England narrowly edging out the [whatever title they're using now] of Quebec, both of whom are likely to be our greatest competition in progressing from the group stage. Saltstead started with a bye, which is appropriate, as I'd forgotten they play gridiron.

The match itself was a mint showing for the Ironworkers defense, who do what they did best by breaking an inexperienced offense in twain. After an opening-play 45-yard field goal expertly delivered by Jeremiah Bull, the Smosh games quarterback would lay the ball directly into Stutter Step's hooves for an early pick six that immediately put the home team in serious danger of being out of the game. The Karditani offense did them some favors with some frankly terrible missed conversions, wherein Asha Krenkov managed to find her receivers open reliably for once but found out she was throwing to some buttered-up buffoons. The next score would come as a result of brilliant coffin-corner punt by Hope Mills; with the ball at their own two, a Smosh running back was blasted by Lemon Drop the second he took the handoff for a safety. A completely wasted possession there would prove to be the nail in the coffin for the newcomers, especially as the field goal they finally managed in the third quarter was immediately answered by another from the boot of Bull.

3 Sundew Twinklefeather 33 yard field goal 0 3
Ahnah Tuuluuwaq 23 yard pass from Jarntyr Mornwulf (Sundew Twinklefeather kick) 0 10

The ball is snapped. Bodies collide and yells ring out; down the sideline, an enormous sand-worm’s passionate undulations beat out a savage rhythm, though xir skirt looks very pretty. The young quarterback Mr Stein scrambles desperately across the chewed-up blue turf, looking for receivers. He is chased by what would appear to be an enormous turtle, a huge praying mantis, and two vast trees, their trunks coiled around one another and sprouting in separate heads, both wearing helmets. The “turtle” gets a hand – or flipper? – to him just as he unleashes a huge pass that sails through the air towards an endzone where a humanoid with shiny metallic skin, some kind of simian with six arms, and what looks fearsomely like a 7 foot long dragon, are all jostling with various receivers.

The ball arcs through the air – maybe Mr Stein does not have the strongest arm but the desire not to have the snapping beak of the “turtle” bear down on him appears to have given him a certain amount of motivation – and Christian Perry, wearing #89, breaks into space. But suddenly, a glowing blue player in #18 leaps into the air, vaulting over Mr Perry and snatching up the ball. He begins running it the other way back downfield before eventually being dragged down once he hits a wall of blockers-turned-tacklers.

“Computer, freeze program.”

The image is frozen. The glowing blue player is captured mid-celebration, four of the “simian” creature’s arms around him in a particularly exuberant hug. Down the sideline various players ranging in size, shape, and viscosity are jumping into the air in excitement; the image captures the frozen grins of dozens of children sitting in slightly disorderly rows in the background. It even freezes the moment a couple of the gaseous lifeforms are swirling in bright celebratory murmurations of particles.

A very tall blue woman and a very short bearded woman step into frame.

“Now, can anyone tell me what went wrong there?”

Baffled looks are exchanged. It was the moment of triumph! Mr Rudd’s interception had sealed the game and ensured that the team had won their first “home” match in Hangar Bay #1. What could the Lieutenants possibly have to complain about? Rudd himself shrugs laconically.

“This play is called a ‘Hail Mary’. It’s a ritual that’s often performed towards the end of the ceremony,” explains Lt. Chiasson. “It’s an act of worship directed at a figure who’s important to the primitives’ religion, called Mary.”

“Who is this ‘Mary’?” From amidst a coal-black face, Lt. Zaaqa’s red eyes glow with curiosity.

“I’m not sure exactly, but she was a Virgin, apparently, so probably played Special Teams.”

There’s a rumbling noise, like two boulders grinding together. Ms Dreralt is scratching her head. She can’t see what else Mr Rudd could have done. If he hadn’t caught the ball, the other team would have easily scored, making the game a close 10-7 and giving the visitors a chance at a comeback. She is wearing a bandage where she picked up a nasty little chip, with some of the surface beneath looking painfully oxidized.

“The ritual involves throwing a deep ball towards the end zone when there’s not much time left, more in hope than strategy,” continues Lt. Chiasson, her beard bristling as she stalks around the frozen display image. “In this situation, the best thing to do is to just knock the ball down to the ground. Remember, it’s fourth down…”

Crewman Grarraddegg counts on four of his arms.

“…so if the pass is incomplete, it turns it over to us.”

Lt. Chiasson inserts holostrations into the image, showing where the pass was thrown from, and where Rudd ended up after returning the interception. There’s a gap of about 30 yards, to the negative.

“So had the ball just fallen incomplete, we would actually have taken over much further upfield. Do you see? In this situation, dropping the pass would be the smart thing to see.”

The crew are starting to catch on. There’s even a couple of reproachful glances towards Rudd, who rolls his star-speckled eyes. Any excuse to blame a Sprite, he thinks, shaking his head.

“Also, what if Mr Rudd had fumbled the ball?”

Fumbles are still something of a problem for the team. They’d coughed up several against Kohnhead, and again here against South Newlandia. The excitement of physical activity have rather obscured the importance of keeping a tight grip on the ball.

“They might have recovered it, and had another chance at advancing down the field, or even scored directly on that play.”

Lieutenant Commander Xian’s blank metallic face turns to face Rudd. Rudd tries to read the emotions within but, as ever, comes up against an impenetrable wall. All he can see in the face is his own reflection. He cheekily uses the opportunity of the mirrored face to adjust his own hair, sweeping a couple of greenish-blue locks across his temple. Beside him, Lt. PH03B3 loads up Synthetic Voice File #24807286.2, Subcommand: Wry Amusement, and clacks out a peal of laughter.

“So, Mr Rudd. We all have a certain respect for your ability to grab these interceptions.” This was his third in just two games. “And normally, I’d say, go for it!”

Lt. Nysathusa takes over. “But on this particular play, it’s more important to be tactically aware. Just try to knock the ball down to the floor rather than risking catching it.”

He begrudgingly nods. A Sprite amid a sea of Anthros and other unfriendlies; it’s not worth trying to argue his case.

“OK, good. Now, Chief Hum. We’re going to take a look at why your penalty off-set Ms Greystark’s punt return touchdown. Remember, you can’t ‘block in the back’.”

The Kakke security chief furrows xir single eyebrow. Kakke do not really have ‘backs’, possessing as they do perfectly spherical torsos. It is a difficult concept for xe to understand. The image moves on, showing Greystark zigging and zagging speedily downfield, and then Chief Hum levelling the unfortunate Mr Power. This game is hard to understand!

Winning?

What is the price of winning this game?
Until the last fall of the time came?

Again you see the world and the flame.
Your pride is a end of his acclaim.

For you shall never find him fairly,
Know any good to man than beauty?

Fair laugh, but rather slender wisdom
Doth in a heart so then small a tune.

To which then we see fit
Against the last loved world to have it.

So hold yourself accountable
Or you dont say another word

If winning is going to be how Les Steckhall and the Sarzonian national gridball team are going to be judged, they're not off to the greatest start in World Bowl XLI.

The Stars dropped their opener to Cassadaigua in front of a sold out, but impatient crowd at Joe Gibbs Stadium in Woodstock before earning an away result in defeating Kriegiersien 26-21.

Sarzonia (1-1) enter their bye with a minus-7 point differential after the top ranked Fillies dropped 32 points on the Stars. However, a source within the Incorporated Gridball Federation's Board of Governors said the sport's governing body within Sarzonia would take into consideration the quality of the opponent.

"We have to," the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to candidly discuss the team's and Steckhall's future with the team. "We can't realistically expect to have the top team in the multiverse come in and have us expect them to roll over. They're too good."

Quarterback Sam Rosen was held to 141 yards passing before he left the Cassadaigua match after throwing his third interception in the third quarter. He finished the day seven-of-18 passing for one touchdown, a seven-yard strike to wide receiver Steve Swain that brought the Stars within nine. Steckhall decided to go for a two-point conversion after Fillies coach Megan Schuster did, but Rosen's pass intended for fullback Les Creighton was knocked out of his hands. Steckhall screamed for a pass interference penalty, arguing that Dagans middle linebacker Kevin Geier hit Creighton early, but the referees didn't call it. Steckhall was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

"That was my fault," he said after the match. "I let my frustration and anger get the best of me. I need to do a better job of setting a good example for the team."

Against Kriegiersien, the Stars had some of the normal football issues that crop up during a match, plus one other consideration.

"Everyone here's naked," Rosen said. "It's not fun seeing wangs and cooches all over the place."

At least on the pitch, the players for Kriegiersien were clothed, as were the coaching staffs, but the same couldn't be said about the personnel around the area near the venue.

"I'll be glad to get back home, that's for sure," running back Ty'Relle Clinton said. He led the Stars with 196 yards rushing during the two matches and rushed for a combined three touchdowns.

NSFB: Another Tight One, But We'll Take It!

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Feb 26, 2021 10:59 am

After a tight win over Greater Vakolicci Haven kicked off our 4th World Bowl campaign in good spirits, Gus Mckerrin's Jaguars headed on the road for the first time this campaign as we took on the unranked Saint-Domingues, lead by head coach Donatien Leclercq. Everyone knew that we needed to ensure we didn't slip up as much as we usually did in order to actually make the playoffs this time around, so even this game on the road at an unranked opponent should be taken very seriously indeed.

This one would be just as tight as game 1, if not tighter. The first half would see some tight play all around and almost nothing to show for it until Jake Griffin found his man in Jack Davidson for a nice 34-yard TD. Chi On-Ma actually missed the extra point this time around so, at Half Time, we were only leading 6-0 overall. The second half would see some better play from the opposition as a great drive by François Houet was rewarded with a Régis Popelin field goal - the only points the home team would score tonight. The 4th quarter would see us take another TD as Griffin found Chris Davidson for a 23-yard TD with CHi actually making the extra point this time around. That would be the end of that, nothing else to talk about as we went 2-0 with a 13-3 win in Saint-Domingue.

Two tight wins take us to the big game of the first half, where our fate in this group may be shown for the first time. The Grid Corp of 6th ranked Drawkland are coming to The Gardens and if they are as powerful as we think they are, this will be an exciting game under the lights in New Washington. GO JAGS!

A classic loss to Ko-oren

Image
We gave it our all but it ultimately wasn't enough against 4th ranked Ko-oren

Traveling to Ko-oren to play against that defense is not something that you want to do especially as a quarterback already under scrutiny after a three interception performance in a seven point win against an unranked nation appearing in their first game. It gave Jackson Watford a chance to prove the doubters wrong and it gave us a chance to record a win against Ko-oren after going 0-2 against them last World Bowl.

We kept it close once against them last time losing 10-6 in our first meeting before losing 20-6 the next time around. Now you never want to go too hard on a quarterback facing a team that allowed 4.5 points per game in the Group Stage last year and is known as one of the best defenses in the multiverse however his performance today was worse than normal and continues to put a cloud over our performance.

Is this team really better than the one in past years? Despite having played two games we have no idea, a win against Ko-oren would have definitely shown us but this a four point loss where we scored three points and frankly didn't come close to scoring any more doesn't really answer the question. The other main question that many are starting to ask is do we really have our quarterback in Jackson Watford as he has yet to really show if he's that guy and appears to potentially be regressing?

While there are certainly question marks surrounding Jackson Watford, he has all the physical tools you want and by all accounts is a positive in the locker room. I don't feel comfortable saying Bella Hollis is our starter and Byron Joseph while an athletic specimen who brings an entirely new aspect to the playbook is still quite raw and putting him in would not go well so basically Watford is our starter by default unless he plays so horrible that we are forced to bench him.

The big news heading into the game was that Kaitlan Deacon our starting running back who had suffered an elbow injury against The Dessicated States was ruled out despite most sources saying she was on track to play. What that meant was Georgette Butler who had been the starter in World Bowls XXXIX and XL would be taking the majority of the snaps running back and Herman Whitworth the star running back of the Mighty Eagles would be getting more carries in his second ever World Bowl game.

As we had last time we deferred and tactically it's a good decision against Ko-oren trusting our defense to stop a lackluster Ko-oren offense and give us decent position for our next drive as opposed to risking a quick and three and out deep in our territory. The strategy appeared to go decently as we stopped them after one first down with Josef Travis forcing a throw away from QB Rem Plasman on third down narrowly getting out of Travis's first career sack.

However our offense just like the entirety of the game stalled out quickly against a dominate Ko-oren defense. There is no true weakness of the defense to exploit and without our top running back we just couldn't get anything going mustering less than 75 yards of offense in the first half and a total of just over 160 at the end of the day.

Watford would throw four interceptions on the day taking his touchdown to interception ratio from 2:3 to 2:7 a completely abysmal mark and one that he will completely need to improve upon in the future. Ko-oren's only score would come in the second quarter when Gurethen Tharadhen beat Barrera in coverage for a 17 yard touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead. Up until that drive our defense had played really well limiting their offense throughout all of the first quarter going head to head with the defense on the other team however we could not keep them off of the scoreboard and it was 7-0 heading into halftime.

At the end of the day it would be our defense that had the best "offensive" play of the day when Anne Boyer got her first interception of her World Bowl career picking it off deep in their territory giving Kohnhead the ball at the Ko-oren 27 the furthest they had gotten all day. On 3rd and 12 Watford fired it to Albie Terry on the sideline in tight coverage. Terry made a fantastic catch but unfortunately his attempted toe tap failed and both his feet were out of bounds forcing us into a field goal that Parkinson drilled.

Ultimately that would be the final big chance from us that made it 7-3 which is how it would end one quarter later to put Kohnhead to 1-1 heading into the bye. Saint Kanye was on bye and The Dessicated States the team we just beat defeated unranked South Newlandia by a score of 10-0. The standings have us currently in 2nd place although a lot will change especially with our trip to Saint Kanye in week 5 the expected battle for second.

Injury Report
RB Kaitlan Deacon - Q Elbow
TE Billy James - DTD Ankle
DT Ellenor Firth O - Head
WR Dillan Mccarthy - Q Hamstring
LB Orion Conway - D Knee
S Roman Jimenez - Q Head

Deacon's listing is more of a precautionary measure after she missed the game this weak but is expected to return to practice at a full capacity by Thursday. Billy James is Day to Day after leaving the game in the fourth with an ankle injury, he should be good to go but it would be wise to limit the 32 year old in practice to get him at full strength for the game in two weeks. Firth has been ruled out with a concussion suffered early on against Ko-oren, and Jakub Brush will be starting in her place.

Dillan Mccarthy has been upgraded to questionable after missing the game against Ko-oren and given the extra week of rest he will probably be good to go. Conway hurt his knee in practice but played through it in the game however had it checked out after the game and has been moved to doubtful although that could change. Jimenez played through his injury against Ko-oren after missing practice the whole week and so you can expect him to do the same in two weeks.

THE ROCKET REPORT

FERGUSON SEALS IT WITH PICK

By Taylor Larson,

The opening game of World Bowl 41 was a tough one for the Rockets, even if they had the advantage of being fresher than their opponent. Perhaps, it was actually helpful for the Phoenixes of Delaclava to have had a game under their belt already. At Emperor Michael I Stadium in Pocono City, fans were reminded to be loud for the Rockets as the Delaclavan fans were for their team when we recently went head to head in the International Basketball Championships.

A big story about this Newmanistan is whether or not Bryan Moore would be wide open with the play calling, or if he would be as unimaginative as Marvin Dineen. You aren’t going to get the answer in one game, and Moore was anything but wide open. Obviously, you are not going to show your hand in the first game, and he most definitely did not. Each team would be successful in getting to the end zone on their opening possession, with Mateus Eldridge catching a 18-yard pass from Trent Goff to make it 7-0, only to be matched when Geoffrey Poindexter caught a 5-yard pass from Brian Scanlon later in the quarter. Newmanistan went up 10-7 after one thanks to Justin Morris 41-yard FG with :16 remaining in the first. Delaclava pushed ahead in the second, thanks to an 11-yard run by Dexter George, and after containing the Rockets on their next possession, Kieran Conley hit from 26 to make 17-10, Phoenixes. That would not be the last of the scoring for the first half as Morris hit his second of the game for Newmanistan, again in the final minute, to cut the lead to 17-13 at halftime.

Newmanistan drove the ball down the field well on their opening possession of the second half, but came away with nothing as Scanlon was intercepted by Tasunka Coleman at the Delaclava 10. Scanlon and wideout Derrick Broomfield were not on the same page, as Broomfield cut inside when Scanlon seemed to be expecting a cut upfield. Not sure who was right or wrong with that miscommunication, though the blame is often put on the wide receiver in that situation. Fortunately for the Rockets, they were able to eventually force the Phoenixes to punt. Scanlon was not going to be frustrated with Broomfield long, as on the next possession, Brain hit the member of the Olympia Gladiators in the slot, and Derrick ended up breaking two tackles to take it 61 yards for a score, making it 20-17. However, a similar big play followed suit as Goff hit Andre Michel in the middle of the field for a 49-yarder, putting Delaclava up again, 24-20.

Newmanistan responded well and ended up finding the end zone on Chase Hartley’s first of hopefully many touchdowns in the World Bowl as he took it in from 7 to make it 27-24 with 11:58 to play. After containing Delaclava, Newmanistan put together another scoring drive, ending in a 31-yard FG from Justin Morris to make it 30-24. However, the Phoenixes were not going to go away quietly, and with time running out, the two minute drill was working well. Goff had gotten his team into the red zone, but with :34 seconds left and all three timeouts used, he would make a costly error: falling to pick up Shane Ferguson in coverage. Goff may have thought that he had Eldridge open, but Ferguson jumped the route and picked the ball off in the end zone, sealing the win, and sending the crowd into a frenzy. All Brian Scanlon had to do from there was put it on a knee. It was a tough one, but a win this team will be happy to get.

Two for Two,
By Hannah Rafferty- SS

Hello, fans! This will be a short entry today but I would still like to touch base with all of you as often as you can. Thank you all for coming out to our home opener for World Bowl 41. Whether you were in the stands for the game, or watching in any way, that is support that we appreciate. The pre-game ceremony was nice, as it was really the last time we were going to be honored as a unit for the World Bowl 40 triumph. With the unveiling of the banner at Dagan Airways Stadium, the last piece to the celebration of that would take place. Now, it is all about World Bowl 41 for everyone. For us, we turned that page as soon as we boarded a plane to Sarzonia for the first game.

With this win, we have won our first two games, and it is noteworthy to say that they were against the 2nd and 3rd pot teams within the group. We’re not going to be overlooking Kriegiersien, though, and our next opponent, BohemiaIV, is coming off of their bye day so that is something for us to think about. As for the Maroons, we were not going to let them spoil our day, and jumping out to the 14-0 lead just four minutes into the game was key in putting them to bed early. Taylor Crimmins hooked up with Alexa Schultz for the opening touchdown, from 36 yards, and then I was able to get my first of hopefully more pick six’s to make it 14-0. That evened up the DB scoreboard for interceptions between me and Kelsey Rocker. Later in the first half, Ashley Wilbanks got on the board with a pick, and that set up our third touchdown of the game, with Taylor and Alexa hooking up once again. That made it 21-0 at the time, and it would be 21-3 at halftime. Our third interception of the game came in the third quarter, as Kelsey Rocker answered the call with her second pick of the World Bowl. This one was clutch, coming in the end zone as the Maroons were driving. Instead, it would be us who went on a drive, and Taylor hooked up with Kaitlyn Rogers this time to make 28-3. The final would be, as you probably know, 35-17. Wish we wouldn’t have allowed that meaningless touchdown with just a few seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, but so be it. It was great to have a three interception game as a secondary, and maybe an unranked side can be a nice victim for myself and the fellow ball hawks on the team. Time to rest for a day before we start preparing for the next one. Take no games lightly!

The Surge headed to St. Kanye early, taking advantage of the fact that their bye day is just before a home game. After a few hours of practice, they were able to catch the second half of other game in their group on TV, where their next opponents The Dessicated States were doing battle against South Newlandia.

Gary Bradman, free safety: Whoa, what is all this?
Patrick Moore, wide receiver: Yeah, they look like a bunch of my middle school doodles come to life..... but, like, in a good way.
Jasper Heath, linebacker: I've heard these guys are from far away, but I didn't think they'd be from that far away.
James Rasputin, kicker: I ain't even that surprised. We've got horses and orcs and those giant Drawks on other teams, and even our NSSCRA brethren race with trained birds and robots.
Nico Jackson, fullback: They seem to be doing pretty well for a team that's supposedly only learning gridiron just now, don't you think?
PM: Maybe they learn stuff faster than we puny humans do.
GB: Then that would be a good matchup for us. They have that, and we have the edge on experience.
Harry Santos, quarterback: What's with their numbers, though? Stuff like 4A and 2D....
Chip Wong, wide receiver: Oh, that's hex. Hexadecimal, base 16. I was a computer science major.
HS: Oh.
CW: Hey, you know that one dude on the field earlier who glows?
NJ: Who, #18?
CW: Yeah, that's not really 18. That's actually 24.
PM: Then what's 18?
CW: Twelve.
PM: Twelve? So it's like I'm wearing Bruce's shirt then?
Bruce Dobler, wide receiver: Then what'll be my number?
CW: C. The letter C.'
BD: Ooh, like Captain. I like that.
GB: Hey look, they're going for the field goal.
[everyone watches in silence]
TV Announcer: Aaand, it's good. The first three points of the game courtesy of Sundew Twinklefeather.
Robby Edison, nose tackle: Yo, did he just say "Sundew Twinklefeather"?
JH: I guess so? Yeah, it's on the TV, see.
RE: Damn, son, I think I had a hippie girlfriend with that name.
Brayden Galazkiewicz, tight end: I think I had a stuffed unicorn with that name.
Jeff Delphine, head coach: Hey, hey! No mocking the opponents' names.
RE/BG: Sorry, coach.
JD: We can't afford to take these guys lightly. They almost beat Kohnhead, and now they're up three-nil against the guys who beat us. It's gonna be quite the challenge for us, having to deal with such a quick-learning team, not to mention their, uh... rather.... unconventional anatomies.
R.J. Linetti: Yeah, come on, guys! We're rated one of the best in the world, we should play like we deserve it.
GB: And we're at home. We can't let these creat.... uh.... opposing players steal the show from us. Let's give our fellow Yeezies something to cheer about.
RJL: Surge on three! One, two, three!
All: SURGE!

At the end of the game...

Alvin Faris, linebacker: Ten-nil? Man, those guys are the real deal.
BD: Guess I'm gonna wear an eyeshield for tomorrow. If glowy boy is covering me, I better not get distracted.
JD: Alright team, take a break. We'll be back in practice after an hour.
NJ: Yo, Marco, me and the other running backs are going out for some burgers. Wanna come?
Marco Jackson, fullback: Sounds good, bro.

Elsewhere in the World Bowl:
- The Chromatika Iron Legion, our host team, bounce back from their opening day loss as they drop a forty bomb on Silvedania, 44-nil. They go 1-1 and 0-2 respectively.
- Squidroidia win over Appalachia 13-3, preventing the latter from recording a second straight upset after they beat Banija in the opener. The Flyers soar to 2-0 and send their opponents down to 1-1.
- The Cassadaigua Fillies make it two in a row, beating the Xanneria Maroons 35-17 and sending them down to 1-1.
- Quebec (2-0) record the second biggest win of the day (after Chromatika), smashing Smosh Games (0-2) by a score of 27-nil.

Phoenixes show improvement but fall to Rockets
Goff and George lead refined Delaclav offense, but last-minute interception proves costly

Pocono City, NEW -- Veteran Newmanistan quarterback Brian Scanlon outdueled his younger Delaclava counterpart Trent Goff, throwing 18-for-29 with 253 yards and two touchdowns, and the 9th-ranked Rockets shut out the 16th-ranked Phoenixes in the fourth quarter after several lead changes to come out 30-24 winners at Emperor Michael I Stadium.

Goff matched up well with his rival, completing 21 of 37 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns, but his one interception proved far more decisive, with Shane Ferguson picking off a pass intended for Mateus Eldridge in the end zone with 34 seconds left. Dexter George added his second touchdown of the tournament off 14 carries for 84 yards. Delaclava held leads of 7-0, 17-10, and 24-20, but could only score on one of their four possessions in the slower-paced second half.

"We kind of saw that they were going through the same process we had last game," wide receiver Kevin Alés said. "Opening game in front of a big home crowd, trying to deal with a tough opponent and still shaking off the rust, trying to click. They figured themselves out pretty well, and we just didn't quite give them enough to deal with today. In the fourth quarter, they were just stronger and better than where we're at." Coach Gorka Bielsa cited in particular the Newmanistan defense, for whom many of the starters are new, some to the team itself: "They're bringing in so many young guys, first and second year players, it's a new situation for them. You saw what they did to us once they adjusted, we couldn't do anything. We've got work to do when they come back to Quinniville."

In perhaps a sign of progress for the cohesion of the Delaclav squad, the Phoenixes offense was quick to console Goff after the game-ending error, with the planned target Eldridge coming to his quarterback's defense postgame. "The guy played great all game," the star wide receiver said. "The game's winding down, you've got to push and take risks. We either score or lose... He knows how to work in that two minute drill, we'll get it next time." Running back Mark Mayfield, a teammate on the Catherina Crushers of backup quarterback Taurus Wright, added, "We obviously have a lot of talent on this team, but right now, he's our guy, this is our plan to win games. So we're ready to get back to work."

To that end, the Phoenixes will return to Delaclava, idle while their groupmates play their next games. The Phoenixes next return to action at Sullivan Stadium against Sword Island, who fell to 0-2 with a 6-0 loss in Mapletish. "They're a team we know we can handle at our best," coach Bielsa said, "but right now, we don't feel consistently at our best. We won't be taking it easy over the next several days, that's for sure."

Krauts Secure Crucial Home Victory Against Fellow Contender Abanhfleft,
Secure Early Control of Group A

Image
Angelo Gordon certainly made his presence felt in his first World Bowl Appearance. While he failed to record a sack, he did help to lock down Abanhfleft's run game with three tackles for a loss and a forced fumble

Big running back Ronnie Turgeon seemed to be the focal point of Abanhfleft's offensive gameplan in this one. And why not? Clocking in at 255 pounds, any defense would be weary of tackling him come the second drive, much less the fourth quarter.

That is, any defense that didn't have an edge defender who quite possibly may be a psychopath.

From the first play from scrimmage, it was clear that Angelo Gordon was going to make his presence felt. One of the best pass rushers in the country proved he can do more than that, going through the backdoor of Abram Paradise, or running around and behind him when Paradise tried to cut him off, to make the tackle for a loss with a vicious hit to set the tone early.

Let it be known, when a team decides it's going to go ground and pound, and they can't gain yards, much less get first downs, they're going to be in major trouble throughout the day. Ross Monarch would clean up with a bruising hit to Turgeon at the line of scrimmage on third down, and that meant the ball was going straight to John Garrett and his offense. That being said, it seems that our Krauts decided to adopt a similar approach with their own big runner, Vice Jackson III.

Before this game, we wrote about how the shorter, leverage advantaged Abanhfleft linemen could produce some problems for our own prototypical, massive human beings on both sides of the ball. This week, in the Karmin-Falce Superdome at least, we were wrong. All six members of the starting defensive line rotation dominated throughout the day, and our offensive line, spearheaded by Tyler Williams, absolutely mauled their opposition. With that sort of room to run, Farmboy was only forced to drop back a dozen times, simply letting Jackson III do his work.

With his offensive line resetting the line of scrimmage on almost every play, our beloved, oh-so-close-to-240 pound back could get a full head of steam consistently, battering the opposing front seven into submission on his twenty seven carries. And of course, Elijah Sampson got in on the action as well, logging fifteen totes of his own. It made for a short game, and the only time the team could've been considered "aggressive" was from the onset, when John Garrett went 3/3 on the opening drive for fifty five yards and the only touchdown of the day for the Krauts. That touchdown would go to...oh hell, I don't know why we even bother. You know the guy.

Anyway, that spectacular tight end's backup, Vasily Schmidt, only caught one ball for nine yards, but he was exemplary as a blocker, managing to hang with defensive end Verecondo Bonino multiple times on his own throughout the contest. This level of blocking, against men who have had more time to mature, at the professional level is going to send this kid skyrocketing up draft boards.

To Abahnfleft's credit, they managed to mount a nice rally in the fourth quarter to draw the score to a very respectable 22-10, but they were far too late as our national team milked the clock with ease. While the game this week was well in hand, we'll have to be wary of what happens next time we lock horns with this squad. We were fortunate enough to have this matchup at home, in Ranoria's largest city. Next time, we'll be the visitors.

Angelo Gordon and Ross Monarch in practice as the team prepares to head to Silvedania

Next up: Silvedania!

Raul Nieler has stressed in his press conferences this week that the team isn't looking ahead to our matchup against HUElavia a little over a week from now, and that the team is locked in and ready.

We know that sitting on top of the group doesn't mean jack shit one game in. Silvedania's 0-2, but they're the best representatives from an entire country. We've got to win the games we're supposed to win if we're gonna have a chance in a group like we're in. Aside from Silvedania, everyone in group A has at least an outside shot of making a title run, so we can't be dropping the only softer matchup we've got.

Well, we certainly haven't noticed any lack of intensity at practice. Angelo Gordon is a human firecracker, as always, and may be even more competitive in practice than he is in games. The poor offensive linemen have no choice but to match his effort, the defense's only option becomes to replicate his effort. As a matter of fact, a fight almost seemed to break out when Gordon hit the quarterback, John Garrett, during 11-on-11 drills.

Just a light touch, perhaps, but the offensive linemen were all over him, as it is generally considered a faux pas to hit the quarterback during practice. Gordon, of course, got right into the linemen's face, but Farmboy was able to calm tensions before things got out of hand. He and Gordon seem to share a mutual respect, interesting after their collegiate rivalry, and professional history.

After John Garrett showed up and took the league by storm, with a record 40 touchdown passes as a rookie, it seemed he had established that having "the guy" at quarterback was an unbeatable strategy. Well, the PIttsburgh Ironmen were ahead of the trend. That same year, they sold the bank to acquire Angelo Gordon, who sacked Garrett three times in the championship, breaking his collarbone in the fourth quarter.

Regardless, the team seems to be firing on all cylinders, and, should they have to put the ball in the air, we should have no doubts that John Garrett is more than capable of doing just that.

Go Krauts!

3 Weeks In
3 weeks in, it was going well. The South started to follow order in the nation, and down there it was going like clockwork. The north however, was a different story for now, at least. There were light rebellions against the security guards, but they seemed to be keeping stuff under control. The city of Murwelldobah was the sole exception to this in the north, they were able establish a city police force out of the Murwelldobah branch of the Northern Security Force, and they held many rallies encouraging the government takeover. We at Coffs Harbour News took a surgery, and an estimated 78% supported the government takeover, with 13% being indecisive, and 9% still supporting the Anarchy. It is clear that Kalactanians are past Anarchy, and they want a government. This public opinion holds up most places in the nation, except for a few areas in the Coffs Harbour area of the nation, where a few communities supported the Anarchy, but pretty much everyone else is past it.

It is rumored that a few older Anarcho-Capitalist leaders may try and create a Libertarian Party that would push for Anarchist reforms. While this could be a popular party, it is estimated that it will only get support in a few select districts of the nation. Zac Johnson is quickly making his stock go up in the political world, and he is set to establish the first political party in the nation in the next month: The Kalactanian Patriot Party. He plans for this party to be a Centre-Right Party that will control the government once it starts. 3 political parties have started to take form, the Libertarian Party, the Kalactanian Patriot Party and the Socialist Party. These 3 parties all serve the right wing, excluding the Socialist Party, which is a Far-Left Party. While there is not a clear option for the Centre-Left group of the nation, a party may start to take form in the next few weeks. Most of the big businessmen are expected to join the KPP, although there are a few already joining the Socialist Party, which may give them a good bit of momentum going into the first elections, which are scheduled for 8.5 months from now.

The economic reform, unlike the social reform, may not take place until after the first elections that take place this June. Taxes will need to pass through the Congress and Senate, which will be tough to do unless a certain party is able to take control of a majority in both areas of the congress, which will be tough to do for any party outside of the KPP. The KPP leadership has said that “We plan to use the plan that our Chairman, Zac Johnson has established. Johnson is expected to be our first nominee for the Executive office of the nation, if the plan comes through in a timely matter. If we are able to establish a majority in both areas of Congress, our leadership will encourage membership to follow the lead of Johnson for the start of the government.”
