JANUARY 1903

The year 1903 will be an eventful one in the sports world for Barnettsville. Baseball is coming later in the year.


In baseball, a professional league is starting with salaries beginning at G100 per season. Franchises have not been yet announced, but it has been said eight will start the season.

FEBRUARY 1903

The National Baseball League released it's season opening lineup of eight teams, set to play a 84-game schedule starting in April. The teams:

New Amsterdam Giants
Atlantic City Mariners
Bayview Braves
(Georgetown) Potomac Marauders
Grantsville Suns
Susquehanna Senators
New Alexandria Rangers
Tidewater Tides

The first game has already been decided as Potomac will travel to New Amsterdam April 2. The other 6 teams will start on April 3, with game two of the three game opening series for the Giants and Marauders to be April 4.

AUGUST 1903

The NBL season has ended, and headed into the playoffs. The top four continue their quest to win the first championship of any variety in Barnettsville history.

New Alexandria makes history by winning the championship without losing a playoff game, defeating Tidewater 4 games to 0:

JANUARY 1907

Season 4 is set to begin, and the NBL is planning on adding 2 more teams in the near future. Leading candidates are a second team in New Amsterdam, St. Catherine, and Lakeview. East Fork and Summersville are considered long shots at this juncture.

APRIL 1907

The two teams that will start play in 1910 were announced recently.

They are:

- Dravosburg Tigers
- Summersville Cubs

That brings the circuit to 10 squads,and the season will be 90 games, with 10 against each opponent instead of the 12 previously.

AUGUST 1907

Season 5 is in the books, and every team has now played in September at least once.

In Hockey news, the formation of a new league to start in 1917 was announced with the first six teams named:
