In response to pandemic considerations and dwinling attendance numbers, 2 Barnettsville sports leagues have announced contraction plans.

Both the National Soccer League and the Women's Continental Basketball Association have chosen to contract two squads each, with the WCBA going to 12 teams starting in 2023 and the NSL in 2024. Neither league has announced which two teams in their respective leagues will cease operations.
