Post 2 – Cooldown.

As she readies her vehicle alongside her friend, Holly would find herself given a set of uniforms for her own safety. Not that she would exactly need it, since she is more or less immune to blunt forces and damages, but the fire retardant properties, on top of hiding her face and her body, was more than welcome for her to comply and wear it. On top of that, the suit was specially upgraded by the Valentians for Holly, being able to withstand her body temperatures with little to no problem. She leaped into the suit’s openings, filling up the space with her body form, followed by wearing the helmet last.

“Well, how do you feel?” Jolyn asked curiously, while checking her own vehicle for the qualifications.

“Hm hm, normal, I guess. I am feeling confident, but you know, not that confident to show the world who I am just yet. I don’t know if people are going to accept me as who I am, or goodness forbid they know about me being the source of the limitless amount of energy.”

“Ah, no worries, no one is going to find out,” Jolyn reassured her, “Even if they did, these NSSCRA folks are friendly, trust me! Maybe they will find it a little too unusual that a being made out of light energy is sentient and sapient, but other than that? Nope, no worries.”

“I suppose so. It’s a little strange for someone such as me to be attracted by this race, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, I will have to give it that. I have to say, when I was told that Holly Starlight began citing her interest and wanted to participate, I was a little surprised. You are all for non-pollution, peace and quiet, nature, and all of that. So I have to ask myself for a while: why would she want to come here for a race? Maybe it was the thrills?”

“Yes, it is! I am hoping that events such as these will allow me to be a bit more confident. That, and I like the thrill of it. One of those hidden thrills I have, hm hm! Just not near or in my home, that’s all.”

“Ah well, I am not judging, of course. Just thought I would try to ask you why you are so interested. I didn’t really manage to get an answer when things were busy back in Valentine Z. Now I know.”

For the next few hours, Jolyn and Holly would be together in their lounge, with the former helping the latter with the rules and regulations of the race, as well as the technicalities of it all. For someone like Holly, it was a little difficult to take in given the isolated and naturistic aspect of herself – she does not exactly have experience with cars in the first place, so to have someone like that behind the wheel of a NSSCRA might have been a concern. However, as the hours went on, it would have been made clear that Holly does have a large amount of understanding in physics aspect of the race, as well as on how a car works on a basic level.

“Well, I have been reading a few books I got from you guys,” she remarked, “It’s not much, but they do help me out on what a car is, how to drive it in a limited sense, and all of that.”

“That’s not too bad, then,” Jolyn replied back, “And of course, I know you are not the kind to do it, but please try not to hit others – intentionally or otherwise. Sure, accidents happen, but you need to be careful with people around us. They do not have the luxury of an extra life.”

“Ohh right, noted with. Thank you! ^^”

Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan
Leading up to the exhibition race
Scott Hawking, one of two team owners of Hawking-Byrd Motorsports, looked nervous as he watched the team’s two transporters unload in the infield of the Proving Grounds in Tundra Falls. Several months ago when the Hawking-Byrd team was announced, there were very high hopes for the team moving forward. Scott was convinced that a boatload of Wreckerian companies would come on board to sponsor the team, especially considering the fact they had Chris Holmes, one of the more well-known drivers in NSSCRA racing, on their team. And they very well could have.

But a month before the season was set to begin, the Wreckerian economy collapsed, and the coalition Wreckerian government, which had consisted of leaders from both the True Wreckerians and the Party of Pride, was on the verge of collapse as well, which could bring about a rehash to the Wreckerian civil war. Sponsors that could have come on board before hand suddenly found themselves unable to provide the support needed for an NSSCRA team. He wondered if the team would even make it the entire season, with questions being raised over Warner Hall Pizza’s involvement in the team, as well as if the team would even have the funds to cover paychecks or equipment costs.

On the bright side, Scott felt the team had a better shot this year. Rather than trying to make do with old, used equipment that either broke frequently or was on the verge of failure, the Hawking-Byrd team, largely thanks to new co-owner Chet Byrd, had new equipment from Preston Autos for the coming season, equipment on the level of Team Blue’s top-of-the-line parts. There was new personnel, installed to the team by Preston Autos, and a new shop back in Halsted, a better place to put together their vehicles than the backyard shed that Scott and his friends had used the year before. He figured that maybe, by some chance, the team could contend near the front of the field, if it had a little luck.

Scott also knew the team would do just fine – it had Chris Holmes, one of the top drivers in the series. When he was on the top of his game, few people could run with him. He had the most raw talent of pretty much anyone in Hapiloppian motorsports, and he proved it on more than one occasion. But he was also seen as toxic in some quarters. Some people had a name for him – “That fat manchild.” Others called him “that slob.”

Scott knew this, and he had heard the horror stories, some of them coming from Chet himself. But he figured that if he could keep Chris behaving, he could help turn the team into a contender week in and week out. And maybe, just maybe, the team could cover some expenses for the future, attract new sponsors, and become a top-flight team along the lines of a Team Blue or a GFR Motorsports.

There was a lot of work to go. There was a lot of races to be run. And Scott wondered if the team could make it all the way. But if they could, he knew they’d be up for the challenge.

NSSCRA fans, your regular season champion and driver with the most wins were already in the Championship 4. So consistency in the points gives @CenturTiones an invite!

#NSSCRA : #WGPC : #iROS

Image Centur Tiones

Hometown: Yeaddin, Vilita
NSSCRA Seasons: 5
Sponsors: Tiones Lumber, Vilaye Energy Drink
Fun Fact: Tiones is also a resident of Eelandii, Turori and is sponsored by the family business, Tiones Lumber, who have funded most of the drivers racing career.

Biography: Centur Tiones has always flown under the radar at Vilita and Turori Motorsports but has been one of the most consistent drivers on the NSSCRA Circuit in the modern era. Despite missing out on the NSSCRA Playoffs during both NSSCRA Season 6 and NSSCRA Season 7 due to not winning any races during the Regular Season, Tiones played spoiler winning late-season races in both seasons to shake up the Championship Four and provide optimism for their ability to challenge for a title if they could make it into the Last 8.

The most famous of Tiones victories came at the Imperial Speedway in Vangaziland when Tiones stepped in and dominated an event that was favored to go the way of home track driver Kev Schorebrook. Tiones won the pole and became just the second driver in the modern era to win a race from the Pole Position. Since Tiones won from the pole during NSSCRA Season 6 the feat has been accomplished by just one other driver: reigning NSSCRA Champion Jeremiah Brooke.

Tiones qualified for the iROS by virtue of being the highest placed driver in the regular season NSSCRA standings not already qualified by virtue of advancing to the Championship 4.

Centur Tiones will be representing the NSSCRA during the first iROS

Change, Part 1

Change is inevitable. Dread it, run from it, it still arrives. The changes to the NSSCRA field this season can get confusing and overwhelming, but not to worry, race fans! We're here to break them down. First we'll start with the drivers who went from one ride to another, then to those who left, then to those who arrived (or returned).

Fiona Sunarya

This season: #00 for BA Tim Motorsport (full-time)
Last season: #83 for BA Tim Motorsport (part-time)

This may sound somewhat ironic, but when managing a race team, sometimes you have to take it slow. Filindostan's Badai Angin Tim Motorsport found out the hard way during their debut two seasons ago, fielding three cars full-time but ending up with a string of DNFs and DNQs. So they scaled back down to one, got better results, and is now only reopening their second full-time team. Sunarya will contend for ROTY honors in the double nil, a number bought by BA Tim from the Jags for an undisclosed amount.

Michael Stefan

This season: #07 for Jaguar Racing (full-time)
Last season: #00 for Jaguar Racing (full-time)

A small change, but a change nonetheless. The deal mentioned above meant that Stefan will have to pick a new number, and he went with #07. That number was used last season by Abdoulaye Goita, as the Recuecian WGP2 champ became a temporary addition to the Glorious Free Republic Motorsports stable during the Pencurve.

Sage Caldwell

This season: #3 for GFR Motorsports (full-time)
Last season: #19 for GFR Motorsports (part-time)

This is a big move, though not at all a surprising one. Why would the Yeezies have to look far for a replacement for their retiring veteran Skip Stiller, when they have a perfectly good R&D driver within their ranks?

Bryan Harrison

This season: #4 for Team Cassadaigua (full-time)
Last season: #5 for Rocket Motorsports (full-time)

Another big move, but the opposite of the one made by GFR in more ways than one. Unlike Caldwell to the 3, which has been hinted to several times last season, it was uncertain who would replace Meghan Sharpe. Interestingly, the other names being floated around (Liangmei Li, Hana Bhe, Anavella Ariiki) were all female. Secondly, it was a foreign signing rather than a local one, Harrison being Newmanistani.

Liangmei Li

This season: #5 for Rocket Motorsports (full-time)
Last season: #89 for IRACT (full-time)

The third big move in a row, not only figuratively, but also literally (the #3, #4 and #5 haulers being parked beside each other). After all three moves were announced, race fans started debating whether it would be Caldwell, Harrison or Li who would outperform the two others.

Pyotr Lavrentiev

This season: #19 for GFR Motorsports (part-time)
Last season: #37 for Motorsports Ceroat (full-time, later folded); #20 for GFR Motorsports (part-time)

Lav gets promoted, but still within the realm of R&D, as he switches from GFR's fifth car to its fourth. He's trying to prove to the Yeezies that they weren't that wrong in picking him up from the ashes of the shuttered Ceroatian team.

Tyler Linde

This season: #21 for Direwolf Auto Team (full-time)
Last season: #33 for Direwolf Auto Team (full-time)

Like BA Tim, Direwolf had to scale down. Only one charter means that they will field only one car full-time, and the dropping down of Paul Nystrom to the second tier means that Linde doesn't have to worry about DNQing anymore.

That's not all, folks, just the first few of them. This will be continued, so stay tuned.

Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan
An hour after qualifying for the Prospect Showcase at the Proving Grounds

The tenth season of the Nationstates Stock Car Racing Association has finally arrived. Well, it's just the qualifying sessions for a non-points race in the second tier, but technically, that's the first NSSCRA-scheduled activity to happen this season.

"I can't believe it, man," Daryl Calhoun spoke to his Glorious Free Republic Motorsports teammate, Pyotr Lavrentiev. "This is it, the big time. Well, there's an even bigger time, and you're also in it, but still. NSSCRA, baby!"

"Yeah, it's quite the honor," Lavrentiev agreed. "Thought I won't be back here after my old team folded, but you know what happened. I'm really grateful for my second chance, you know?" To those who still don't, the Yeezies took a gamble on Lav after Motorsports Ceroat went belly up, hoping a switch to a more stable team and better equipment would unlock his true potential. "Hey Daryl, all this driving around's made me hungry. Wanna go and grab something?"

"Alright. Damn, I can use a SubHouse sub right now."

"Warner Hall for me."

"Sure, let's catch up later."

The booths of the Cassadagan sandwich shop and the Wreckerian pizza joint were on opposite ends of the track grounds, so Calhoun and Lavrentiev had to split up. The former made his way along the haulers in decreasing numerical order, passing a tall driver on the way, but paying him (or her, Calhoun wasn't sure) no mind.

Lav, on the other hand, walked past his own hauler (#19), Calhoun's (#20), then the #22, #23, and so on. When he got to #39, who would he bump into but his former teammate at Motorsports Ceroat, Rustam Ilyich Yudin. He, too, was given a second chance, this time by UrGa and the Fleftics. "What a pleasant surprise," Lav suddenly said.

Race To The Pole
Round 0 - Exhibition at The Proving Grounds Presented by Rocket Automotive

Image
Track: Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan
Length: 3.5 miles (Superspeedway)
Record Laptime: 56.342
Pole Winner: Yraaga Gilli'i
Pole TIme: 56.724

After an offseason where the teams of old were replaced by some teams new and another shakeup to the schedule with the addition of a 2nd tier series (Currently with a naming rights bid war between Squidroidia based Drew's and Hapilopper chain Everlong), we can officially say that the NSSCRA season has finally begun. Season 10 of the multiverse's premier stock car championship, as always, kicks off at the Exhibition at the Proving Grounds, site of the Tundra Falls 500 and season finale Proving Grounds 500, with qualifying for the non-points paying race having occurred. Who has obtained the first Vilaye Energy Drink Pole Award of the season?

...To nobody's shock it is a Vilitan! In fact the front row has Tropicorp tires written all over it, as last season's Exhibition winner Yraaga Gilli'i earns pole with the #41, with last season's runner-up Centur Jones securing the second spot in a fitting #2 car. It could have been a threepeat of Tropicorp tire wielding dominance, but last season's champion Jeremiah Brooke in the #18 Vylet kept River 'Shark' Suzgar II at bay with a laptime .039 seconds faster than the #14. Last season's Tundra Falls 500 winner Gwen Tracer scores 12th position in her #31 machine, while Shigeru Ishikawa in the FunStar #40 will start 37th after a 58.145 drive kicked off his career in NSSCRA.

In terms of non-chartered teams there is one big outlier. Cocoabo #78, outdueled not only Cocoabo #28 but all but the 4 drivers mentioned first to start on Pole 3 in 5th position. They sit 1st in terms of non-chartered teams, and in a world where only 7 of their kind will make the race #78 did it in style, .154 seconds ahead of Hossem Nasri, the Fleftic starting 15th behind #28. Anavella Ariiki keeps the Tropicorp trio in the show as the 3rd fastest non-chartered driver in the #88 starting 22nd, with Frank Bronson, Ganglie Zhe and Anthony Barnes scoring 25th, 26th and 27th respectively. The final non-chartered spot would end up going to Alfonso Mercado of TJUN-ia outfit Jaguar Racing, finishing 28th and .022 seconds ahead of Chris Holmes, who will be sent packing.

It is, however, a tough day at the garage for UnionRacing from Sword Island. Kassie Collins finished qualifying 30th as the best Sword Islander in her #35 and had the distinction, as a rookie, of finishing ahead of the #46 Multiversal Chadwick of Thea Alvarez in qualifying, but her non-chartered status meant she was 9th in non-charters and sent home. Chartered driver Micheal Rush, who finished 56th overall with a time 1.092 seconds slower than Collins, will start 43rd. Roman Gwinnett, Rocki Ezis and Lexi Patterson are also part of the last 5 sent home. Lee Shara in the #52 Doomengine Bard finished last overall, getting close to a one minute laptime at the Proving Grounds. Ahron Ahndreus will be the last car seen on the parade lap, as he finished with a 59.310 laptime.

With all of that set, here's how the cars will line up for the start of the Exhibition at The Proving Grounds Presented by Rocket Automotive.

NSSCRA Pick 'em - Fantasy Sports Competition

Image
Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan :: The first ever V&T Racer NSSCRA Pick 'em Competition came to a close when the Checkered Flag fell on the NSSCRA's 9th season when four competitors paired themselves to the NSSCRA's Championship 4 drivers in a winner take all showdown. After dominating the NSSCRA Pick 'em Challenge throughout the season, the two Dagan competitors @PinkHKluvs2718 and @FillyGurl27 were looking to close out the season as the first ever champion of the VTRacer Pick 'em competition.

Hannah Kennedy, the user behind the @PinkHKluvs2718 handle on twii.tur was the first ever weekly challenge winner on the NSSCRA Pick'em contest and maintained a healthy lead throughout the season until being challenged by fellow Dagan @FillyGurl27. The duo held their breath as the season ending Proving Grounds 500 ended in the most dramatic season-finale of the modern NSSCRA Chase era with each of the four championship contenders finishing inside the Top 5 at the finish. Saint Kanye's Jeremiah Brooke, who was the Regular Season Champion, edged out Vilitan driver River 'Shark' Suzgar II to take the race victory as well as the championship.

With Brooke's first ever NSSCRA Title also came triumph for Kennedy who had been paired with Jeremiah Brooke for the season finale - a fitting pairing considering her handle including both Stacie Houston's #27 and Brooke's #18 opposed to her Dagan counterpart who was paired with Brooke. While Kennedy's list of prizes included an all-expenses paid trip to the Tundra Falls 500, it is likely to pale in comparison to the prizes received by Kennedy from back home in Cassadaigua where @PinkHKluvs2718 had become a fantasy sports hero amidst her rise to fame in the V&T Racer NSSCRA Pick'em Contest.

Vilita & Turori Racer is preparing for the kick off of the Tenth NSSCRA Season with the return of its NSSCRA Pick 'em Fantasy Sports Competition with minimal changes to the competition from its inagural multiverse-wide contest held during NSSCRA Season 9.

Fans looking to participate in VTRacer's NSSCRA Pick 'em Competition will have to finalize their team selections prior to the season opening Tundra Falls 500 (The Tundra Falls Exhibition will not be part of the VTRacer NSSCRA Pick 'em Competition).

Each Pick 'em Team will consist of 5 drivers; 1 each from five different Grade of drivers with the defending championship Four drivers; Jeremiah Brooke, River 'Shark' Suzgar II, Stacie Houston and Liangmei Li joining NSSCRA Season 8 Champion Kai Qiang and 5th Place Finisher in points and Tundra Falls 500 winner Gwen Tracer Allison as Grade 1 Drivers. Entries will earn points based on the performance of each of their five selected drivers during each event. Throughout the season a user can make change to trade one driver within a Grade for any other driver in the same Grade at a cost of an additional 2 fantasy championship points per transaction.

VT Racer will re-seed drivers at two points during the regular season based on their performance in the NSSCRA standings while adding any drivers who were not assigned an initial Grade. If an entry includes a driver who is promoted to a higher tier during a re-assessment, that driver will be grandfathered in their original slot and continue to count as against that entries original tier until such a point they are dropped from the team and subsequently re-added at a later date.

The standard Pick 'em Competition will culminate with the Pencurve Electronics 500 at the Jalton Superspeedway after which Fantasy prizes will be awarded and the VTRacer NSSCRA Chase Pick 'em competition would begin.

Those looking to compete in the NSSCRA Pick 'em Competition for Season 10 Can submit their application following the instructions on the enclosed form.

The NSSCRA Season 10 Schedule has been reduced by ten events in the regular season, returning to the NSSCRA 7/8 levels and marks the first schedule reduction in the NSSCRA's Top Tier since the dawn of the Chase era. Many traditional events retain their spot on the schedule although a shake up in the order and placement of NSSCRA Chase events could change the makeup of the championship 4. The most notably change in the schedule is the lack of a road course among the Round of 8 schedule and the movement of the Five Star Mobile 500 in Concord Heights to the penultimate race of the season slot previously contested in Vangaziland.

39 Drivers will be guaranteed a spot in each event with a further six slots available to non-chartered drivers and the final spot on the grid to an open charter driver. Newmanistan driver Ashley Matthews will be using the open charter for the Tundra Falls 500 after first competing in the iROS series. The reduction in the NSSCRA Top level schedule is also due in part to scheduling adjustments associated with the accomodation for the addition of a second Tier to the NSSCRA framework. Also debuting in Tundra Falls, the NSSCRA second tier will also be a 26 race schedule from start to finish and serve as a place where top drivers from around the multiverse can compete against other drivers from various nationality and discipline in a similar-skill environment without having to be thrust immediately to the throws of Top-Tier NSSCRA action against a slew of experienced drivers who have been wheeling NSSCRA style Stock Cars for their entire careers.

After months of preparations, Beiyang, the Republic of China's largest car manufacturer, is making its NSSCRA debut. Although they are new to the series, Beiyang management has high expectations for their team. Beiyang regards TMW as a major rival in the Chinese market, so if they can't keep up with TMW, they will consider that a failure and an embarassment.

They are running three cars:

#66 Hengxing Tian

Hengxing Tian is the son of billionaire business mogul Lei Tian. He has a year of experience competing in NSSCRA, but there are rumors that the real reason Beiyang signed him is because of his father's money. Tian's driving last year didn't stand out -- at least not in a good way -- so there's ample reason for speculation.

Tian says his poor performance last year was due to substandard equipment and inadequate technical support. Now he's driving a new car and it's time for him to back up his claims.
Image

#60 Ricky Lee

Ricky Lee is an up and coming driver from Saint Kanye who's come to China to get in touch with his roots and land a full-time ride. Beiyang was impressed with his driving at a test they held during the offseason, and it doesn't hurt that he brought a couple of Kanyean sponsorships with him.
Image

#70 Gongming Gao

Gongming Gao is one of the top drivers on China's domestic racing scene, but that's not saying much. Motorsports aren't that big in the Republic. In fact, Gao said in a preseason interview he has considered moving to the Sherpa Territories to compete in IRACT. He also said, now that he has a chance to drive for Beiyang, he's glad he didn't move. "I'm Chinese, so of course I want to represent China," he said.

It's rumored that Gao resents the decision to give Beiyang's top charter to Tian instead of him.

(OOC: Thanks to Kanye for helping with the car designs. They were a collaborative effort.)

After the Qualifying session for the Exhibition Race
Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Newmanistan

Fiona did not have a good time in the qualifying session for the Exhibition Race earlier this afternoon. She was only able to push her #00 Kecepatan in 48th place, not good enough to qualify for the first event tomorrow. This was her first time not to qualify for a race, as she was able to get into the field by speed bar the race in Filindostan where the open charter was assigned to her as the home racers get priority assignment. She was pretty pissed with herself as she was loose on Turn 3 which lost her much time, and with much of the unchartered drivers were from established teams like Tropicorp, Abanhfleft, and Hapilopper among others, she expects it would be a difficult first few races for the #00 team and they might wait until the first wave of charter reassignments for her to be more competitive.

However, even that she cannot rely on, as the new entries looked competitive even if those drivers were starting from the rear of the field with their charters guaranteeing themselves in the race. She thought to herself, what would happen if Hana accepted offers from an overseas team? Would she be given the reins instead in the #0 ride, which she would guarantee herself in the field? She thought she cannot be selfish about it. After all, in the FISCAR season she won, she struggled in the first four races until she picked up her mojo in the second half of the season. She also thought Hana is still indebted to the team for retaining her in last season when Chiemi Hino was available to return to the #0 the latter rode during season 6 with KISMO.

"I shouldn't think bad things about her..."

She opened her tab while lying in her bed and watched a fresh video podcast from the Top Gear Filindostan site. Three minutes into the stream and due to the overload of video ads, she fell asleep and missed most of the discussion about her DNQ in the Exhibition race.

Image

Alya Martana (AM): Good evening, die hard petrolheads and casual fans of motorsport, I welcome you to the video podcast of Top Gear Filindostan, I, Alya Martana, and my special guest for tonight, retired professional racer from Filindostan, raced in multiple local domestic series before Rustom Ibuna and Hana Bhe became a thing here in Filindo motorsport, and the hunk himself, Gilang Subroto. He will help us analyze and break down various topics we need to discuss, along with fearless predictions. Hi Gilang!

Gilang Subroto (GS): Hi everyone, nice to meet you. Hi Alya, good day again. Are we doing WGPC analysis again?

AM: We'll not tackle it this time, Gilang. This time, we'll talk about NSSCRA and the prospects of the Filindo teams and drivers just after the first day of Tundra Falls Speedweeks.

GS: Okay, let's get into it.

AM: First off, let's talk about the qualifying results in the Exhibition Race. Hana Bhe, in the #0, qualifying 23rd, and Fiona Sunarya, not able to qualify for the race in 48th. Let us talk through it.

GS: I think Fiona will struggle to qualify in the first five races at least. Her opponents in vying for those spots either have vast experience already in the series, you're talking about Cocoabo #78, Anavella Arikki, Frank Bronson among others, then you have two UrGa entries from Abanhfleft that flexed their muscle even if they have an all-new driver lineup. It's crazy, and I think she has to keep going through it even she fails to qualify. I think she will still do well midseason. Hana had some weekends where she struggled in qualifying but had a great race craft and was able to score top tens, even top threes. So I'm not too worried about her. I think this is her best chance to make the playoffs in her career.

AM: Okay, nice insights on both the drivers. There were some discussions on twii.tur and some of them pointed out that it Sunarya would not have to experience this had her current teammate, Bhe, accept the offer to replace Meghan Sharpe in the #4 Team Cassadaigua ride?

GS: That decision I think was Bhe's one. She could have refused the offer to stay at Badai Angin and accept the other offer, but we are not sure if there was even an offer by the other party. But I'd think she had a fair chance to take that ride and prove herself further in a superior equipment. I commend her decision actually to stay in the team which gave her a chance to redeem herself after having a difficult rookie season, even if that would cost her teammate a chance to not think about qualifying much.

AM: By this point in time, I am introducing a guest into the show. Despite being a controversial figure, he has the speed to prove it and have won two NSSCRA races while in Kissan Motorsport. Let's welcome Mr. Noriyasu Nagai. Hello, Nagai-san!

Noriyasu Nagai (NN): Chii-zu.

AM: Welcome to the podcast! What are you doing nowadays?

NN: Well, after I got banned in FISCAR as well as being persona non grata in Filindostan, I am plying my trade in Hispinas, trying something over here.

GS: Nagai-san, can you share what are your plans there?

NN: No, sorry, this should be kept in utmost secrecy. Don't worry, I can just share my thoughts on those two pusses and promote my Geru-san into the show since you are not talking about him.

AM: Nagai-san, reminder that we are ilve here, but give us your thoughts on the-

NN: You know, Hana, I think she's still having her ambition in that #4 ride, too bad it was too late and another driver took the opportunity. What does she do? Destroy another puss that is Sunarya and her hopes in doing well in main series. Well I don't care how their season trajectories will be but I wish them hell this season. Moving on. Geru-kun is doing pretty well in that Dahon, unfortunately that should have been a full factory ride if not for those bastards at Badai Angin interfering with the Dahon program and forcing them to quit motorsport. Even if Geru-san starts 40th he will still burn the field alive and win the race. And that's the one you should look be discussing with and not those two poster girls, you bastards-

Feed from Nagai-san cuts off

AM: We humbly apologize for the rude behavior of Nagai-san, we have cut off his feed at the moment and letting him calm down a bit...

GS: I'd think production made a mistake inviting him to the podcast. We may hear a set of backlashes in twii.tur regarding this.

AM: Okay, Gilang. Let's take a break and be back after these short messages. We'll try to reconnect with Nagai-san for a moment...

To be continued...

Geru or Geru-kun, as he is known to many, is having a difficult time to manage his younger teammates for various reasons.

Astigar, driver of the #70 car, is technically sound, and appears to have speed despite the circumstances where he got his ride (he was the son of the owner of Itzal), but his status and his prima-donna attitude have ticked off the Ajian brought to the team due to his knowledge of the Dahon cars. He would not follow Geru's advices as he believes his know-it-all attitude would bring him to success, and the language barrier he introduces makes it even more difficult for Geru to understand his true feelings. He refuses to talk to him in English, and since he handpicks the race crew, from crew chief, to tyre changers, and all of them speak Basko language. As a result, Geru enrolled in a Basko Language course to understand the language more and to communicate to him more effectively. Astigar finished the second tier race 23rd, always at the back of Barnabas Mate and struggled to keep up to the leaders' pace.

Kiki, on the other hand, was a very slow learner, despite being in the wheel of the Sivick for a long time. Despite the number of hours in the simulator and in the actual car, he still missed qualifying for the final round of the FISCAR championship at the Yoggy Oval, and have lost even more track time with the debacle that is the pullout of Dahon from FISCAR. Qualifying 27th ahead of his Hispino teammate, Lambosa only finished 32nd after getting an oversteer made worse by his abysmal throttle control, wrecking the car and causing the crew to run the backup car for next week's points paying race here at Tundra Falls. Luckily for them it was only a non-points paying race, but both drivers failed to grab a spot in the iROS through the Prospect Showcase, which was taken by Tim Lateman.

With his younger teammates in his mind, he was only able to qualify 53rd, behind both Hana Bhe and Fiona Sunarya, though the latter do not have a charter and thus would not qualify for the race. Geru-kun would start his first Tundra Falls race from 40th of 46 drivers.

Exhibition Part 1 (Maddy's First Race!)

This blog was written by Derrick Carlisle, Jaguar Racing's Social Media Manager

It has been a long while since I did one of these, but NSSCRA X IS HERE! The best drivers from across the multiverse will be competing in 2 championship series in order to decide our 2 Champions of the Season: The Tier 2 title and the glorious Tier 1 Crown itself. It's been a long while since Jerimiah Brooke won the girl (Stacie Houston) and the crown here at Tundra Falls Proving Grounds and ahead of the first race of the season here in Newmanistan, we arrive a week earlier for the annual icebreaker: the Exhibition at The Proving Grounds tomorrow and, for the first time, the Prospect Showcase at The Proving Grounds today!

Let's first begin in Tier 1 and with the boys: Michael Stefan (@Stefan07) and Alfonso Mercado (@AM64). You know them, we know them, and you all know how good they are but after a long off-season, it was nice to see the pioneers of TJUN-ian stock-car racing back out on the track. Starting position doesn't really matter in an event like The Exhibition, where there are no points at stake and it acts as a warm-up to actual championship racing next week, but we all know getting off on the right track is important and so that was the plan when qualifying arrived here. The first Exhibition we took part in saw Stefan qualify in 36th, 46th overall if you count the non-qualifying charter times, and Mercado failed to make it at all, so any improvement was certainly the idea here.

With Ashley Matthews deferring her open charter slot for this weekend to focus on the iROS event this weekend, it meant that there were 7 open slots in the field instead of the originally-allocated 6 and oh boy, would we need it. Alfonso Mercado had no charter once again and thus, he entered the lottery of qualification today and it was tight. He did make it in for 28th for tomorrow, but only by two hundredths over Chris Holmes of Wreckeria's Hawking-Byrd. Sorry guys, but it had to be done! Cocoabo #78 was the surprise package out of the non-charters in 5th with Hossem Nasri of Abanhfleft also did well to qualify in 15th. Anavella Ariiki made it in 22nd, meaning all 3 of Team Tropicorp's drivers made it in, with Mercado the last in a 4-driver qualification train with Frank Bronson (Hapilopper), Ganglie Zhe (Abanhfleft again) and Anthony Barnes of Northwest Kalactin.

As for Stefan, he improved too by ending up in 21st for tomorrow, just ahead of Ariiki and just behind the other Fleftic driver in Dinggu Wang. 21st is certainly better than 36th, but we shall see if this is a reflection of what is to come this season. The battle for pole, however, was dominated by one team in particular: Vilita and Turori Motorsports. All 3 of their drivers were in the Top 4 with last season's Exhibition winner Yraaga Gilli'i leading a front-row lockout with Centur Tiones. The only driver who prevented the Shark of River Suzgar II from making it a 1-2-3 was the man who beat him to the crown by a whisker last season - Jeremiah Brooke himself.

That is the setup for tomorrow's Exhibition, so let's finally talk about the Prospect Showcase and the debut of Wollongmatta Bay's own Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03). The driver of the #03 in NSSCRA's new Tier 2 series took part in her first race weekend today and you could say she showed some promise. Maddy (as she prefers to be called) qualified in 6th for today's Showcase and only six-tenths behind the pole time set by Mercy Binayas of Finindostan. The 35-drivers than raced later in the day and it would be an attritional first duel, with 7 drivers failing to make it to the end. Maddy did pretty well for herself in this new series and was only denied a podium by a whisker behind Valentine Z's Valkyrie Valentijn Samantha Constantine. The battle for the lead was also down to the wire but in a photo finish, it was Kohnhead's Tim Lateman who prevailed in the #93 car over Hapilopper's Edmund Flanders. Kohnhead's 2nd driver had won the Showcase and many are starting to wonder if the tennis rivalry TJUN-ia has with Kohnhead will carry over to here. Maybe, maybe not, but we shall see.

So that was Saturday: Maddy started in 6th and ended up in 4th, Alfonso will start 28th and Michael in 21st. So far, so good from the returning Jaguar Racing but who knows what will happen at the main event tomorrow...

Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan
The later part of qualifying sessions for the Exhibition at the Proving Grounds

Glorious Free Republic Motorsports drivers Thea Alvarez and Sage Caldwell were sitting on the bleachers, watching other cars try to make the field for the non-points paying Exhibition at the Proving Grounds. As it sits right now, they'll both start in the lower mid-pack, but the nature of the track would allow them to help each other move up front.

"Hey, Thea, you ever think any of these newcomers feel nervous?" asked Caldwell. "To be here, I mean, against the best in the world. Talk about a baptism of fire."

"Maybe, Sage? I think so.... only 'cause I myself felt nervous too. Back in my first race. I think I DNFed that one. But look at me now, I came out alright, didn't I?"

"Bet." The two then sat in silence as they watched the rookie Shigeru Ishikawa finish his attempt, followed by Taylor Henderson, Alex Knight and Darnell Curry. "Hold up," Caldwell finally said as he stood up. "I'm off to buy a sub. Anything I can get you?"

"You mean right now?" asked Alvarez. "Jeremiah's up."

"Oh, really? I'll go after his attempt then." Caldwell returned to his seat. Their teammate Jeremiah Brooke zipped through the track during his attempt, doing enough to get the third position in the field.

On another section of the bleachers, Ricky Lee was being interviewed. Earlier, the Kanyean recruit of the Beiyang factory team watched every other driver send him lower and lower down the scoring tower, until Hossem Nasri's blazing attempt bumped him off entirely. "Yeah, it sucks," he told the reporters. "Not blaming the equipment though. I just need time to familiarize myself with the equipment, not to mention my new teammates. If I want to make it into a points race, I'll just have to put in more effort, you know...."

"Get good?" asked someone from N5 (New Northwesteros National News Network). This was the slogan of Hapiloppian motor oil brand Good, whose slightly aggressive manner of advertising in both NSSCRA and WGPC has turned it into a meme, similar to Kanyean men's care brand Mayhem and their "Bring the Mayhem" campaign with Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal.

"No, that won't be enough," Lee said with a sly smile. His comment was more than just a jab at Good by a driver whose team uses the competing Caravan Oil. It also indirectly referenced Chris Holmes failing to make the show in a car that had the slogan on its rear end, something netizens were quick to pounce on.

Meanwhile, Brooke has now joined his teammates in watching the other drivers turn laps. "That third spot is tougher than it looks, you know," he told the other two. "See, I'm being surrounded by VTM cars. Those guys always seem to qualify strong."

"Well, you can't expect anything less from the richest team in this series," replied Caldwell between bites of his SubHouse sandwich.

"Not only that, you know they'll just work with each other all race long. I'd need to find a my own drafting partner."

"Dunno, that gal in the eighth position would probably be willing," said Alvarez, referring to Stacie Houston, Brooke's girlfriend.

Only a handful of people remain now. Tyler Linde made his attempt, followed by Gwen Tracer Allison. When Fiona Sunarya came up, the Yeezies started cheering her on. She was doing well, too, until she got loose on the third turn and lost precious time. "Damn, that's not good," said Brooke. Alvarez excused herself from the others and went over to where her Filindo friend would be once she exits her car, wanting to offer her some words of encouragement.

The Team Blue Center, Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan
Leading up to the exhibition race
It was all reality now. The hellish offseason had come to an end. Drake Stevenson no longer had to think about what had happened during the offseason, about how he and Gabriela had fallen out with each other, about how his brother was on the verge of mental collapse, about any of that. He was inside “Merciless,” officially known as “TB-22-02,” a new chassis built by Team Blue for NSSCRA 10, and was reaching for his open-face helmet and goggles. When he put those on, all was right with the world. He no longer felt like a miserable failure in life. He felt like Drake Stevenson, badass racing driver.

The morning of qualifying, Drake and the rest of the NSSCRA teams headed out for the first practice sessions of the year, a chance to see how they stacked up to the rest of the field. While rolling his car out of the garage area, sitting in line with the other teams, he heard a voice over the radio. It was Amanda McAlister, team principal for Team Blue, sending a message to all three drivers.

“Alright, see if you three can find each other and draft together,” Amanda said. “The Preston guys have also requested that we try to find the 54 and the 56 and work together with them.”

“So, work with Holmes then?” Drake asked somewhat pensively.

“Yes, Stevenson, that means you work with Holmes,” Amanda replied. “The Preston guys are trying to make sure that Prestons help Prestons before they help anyone else.”1

“10-4.”

So during the morning practice, the three Team Blue cars spent much of their time running nose-to-tail with one another, with Scott Hawking and Chris Holmes running not far behind. The Preston representatives at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds liked what they had seen. They had felt that they could do something great if the five Super Skychiefs entered in the field could draft together and work together as a unit, even if some of those drivers didn’t particularly care for one another.

Drake looked down at a dial in the center console of his car, which allowed him to contact other drivers, or perhaps a group chat. On one option, it was “81”, which allowed him to contact his crew. Option 2 was “TB,” which was a group chat for the entire Team Blue crew. Option 3 was “8,” for if Drake needed to speak to Frank Bronson. Option 4 was “73,” for Taylor Henderson. There were other selectors, but they had been left blank, in case Drake wanted to possibly talk to Chris Holmes, Scott Hawking or anyone else in the field. At that point, Taylor had an idea and posed it over the team radio. 2

“Hey Bronson,” Taylor said. “Move high. I’ll go with you.”

“10-4,” Frank said as the two moved high and out of line on the backstraight. Taylor then put her front bumper on Frank’s. The Team Blue crew looked nervous as they spotted Taylor bump-drafting Frank, and not letting go. The nerves built even more as the two headed towards turn three and Taylor was still on Frank’s bumper, and even more interestingly, the two appeared to be pulling away from Drake and the Hawking-Byrd cars. 3

“Hendo, what the hell are you doing?” Drake asked as the two headed towards turn three. “You’re gonna wreck him!”

“Car’s stable, Stevenson,” Frank said. “Holy crap, where’d you go?”

And sure enough, the two had gained five miles an hour just by locking bumpers all the way around the Proving Grounds. Drake put two and two together to motion for the car behind him to do the same. And Chris Holmes did just that. While the two did not get along with each other anymore, the two realized that working together for this purpose was going to help both of them out. And in practice, on paper, it looked like they were going to be just fine for the upcoming exhibition race.

And for Team Blue, when it was one car on the track at a time for qualifying, things went just well. Drake and Taylor wound up qualifying in the top 10, with Drake qualifying 6th and Taylor qualifying 9th. Meanwhile, Frank’s goal was different. With no charter available to him, he had to qualify on time for every race, and with 25 drivers going for seven spots, Frank had to be at the top of his game. He wasn’t entirely there, qualifying 25th fastest, but at least he had made the race, running 4th fastest of the seven seven drivers that made the field on speed. When qualifying came to an end, the relief on Frank’s face was very visible. All he needed to do now was find a way to hook up with his Team Blue teammates and with Scott Hawking to run up front.

And when he got back to the Team Blue Center, Taylor was holding court with much of the Team Blue crew, as well as Drake, discussing the style of drafting she had discovered in practice. Using several sugar packets, Taylor demonstrated how two cars locking bumpers could go much quicker than those that weren’t.

“Honestly, it surprised me to see Frank and I pulling away from a three-car group,” Taylor said. “We’re going to need to do this all race long if the engine can take it.” 4

OOC Notes:
1 - On restrictor plate tracks similar to the Proving Grounds, manufacturers in RL NASCAR have requested that their drivers work together above anything else. I referenced this in a RP last season and called it "manufacturer tribalism." Chevy teams will work with Chevy teams, Ford teams work with Ford teams and Toyota teams help Toyota teams. In 2019, a minor controversy erupted at a Talladega race when it was discovered that a Chevrolet executive ordered their teams to work together and shun anyone else.
2 - In the days of "tandem drafting," which this RP primarily concerns, NASCAR drivers were able to configure their radios to talk to other drivers. For example, Matt Kenseth could turn a dial where he could talk to Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, or whoever else. NASCAR banned the practice in 2012 in an effort to stop tandem drafting.
3 - In 2008, with the advent of the "Car of Tomorrow" NASCAR race car, teams learned that they could pick up huge amounts of speed by locking bumpers. With the previous car, the front and rear bumpers did not line up, and if a driver took a bump at a bad angle, or if they were bumped when turning the car, it led to an accident. However, the new "Car of Tomorrow" made it easier for drivers to bump-draft and lock bumpers. A 30-car draft going 190 mph could easily get overhauled by two cars locking bumpers going about 205 mph.
4 - The problem with the second car in the tandem draft, however, is that constantly locking bumpers overheated the car, which necessitated drivers to swap positions.

Lateman surprises in Exhibition round

Yes Exhibition at The Proving Grounds Presented by Rocket Automotive is only an exhibition as it says in its name. However every driver knows to take it seriously as it is the first race weekend of the 10th NSSCRA season and it's a good indication of how the season will go. In addition we saw the tier 2 drivers also really taking this one seriously at the Prospect Showcase at The Proving Grounds Presented by Rocket Automotive and they've been the only ones to race so far, the main series race is tonight after a qualifying session yesterday.

Friday - Prospect Qualifying and Exhibition Practice
Many say the weekend starts here with the final practices for the primary series cars and the qualifying for the secondary series. In practice we saw Tyler Butler and Dexter Warner both go out for their sessions and if you had thought they could be decently competitive think again. Both drivers knew that aiming for top 10 or even top 20 finishes is so far out of the picture and odds are Warner never even qualifies to the main event however both were testing out the car and the track in practice. Butler's car seemed faster and Butler seemed to be in better control especially on the turns that Warner but we would see in qualifying how each would do.

Tim Lateman and the secondary tier's qualifying would kick off later in the day. Given how new the secondary series is and the fact that each driver is supposed to be on level playing fields with each other could lead to a much more successful and fun season for Kohnheadians behind the wheel. This was shown to be accurate as Tim Lateman left the garage and went out to do his qualifying laps, the number 93 blazed around the track and finished in 4th place after the session with a time of 57.608 which was a little behind the pace set by Mercy Binayas of Filindostan.

Nevertheless it was extremely surprising and exciting for Lateman in his #93 Chicken King Car to finish this high but odds were he couldn't carry this momentum into the race.

Saturday - Exhibition Qualfiying and Prospect Raceday
Saturday the day of qualifying for the top tier drivers and yet raceday for the secondary series drivers. We started it off with qualifying for the main series and Dexter Warner would be the first BBM driver to go. Warner would run a 58.836 nowhere near good enough to qualify into one of the final spots. He would end up with the 59th best time in the main series good for just 22nd best who were driving for the final six spots. Warner would talk about the adjustments who needed to make for the real races and would add that for the 90 car he thought he did a good job, he wasn't expected to qualify.

Tyler Butler in the chartered 91 car would be the 46th best in the 65 car field with a time of 58.197, he ran well especially compared to Warner but will be starting in 38th for the actual 46 car race on the outside of row 18 next to the Squidroidian Shigeru Ishikawa another newcomer nation and driver to NSSCRA. Butler would go on to say it's easier knowing that he has a charter and that it takes some pressure off of him knowing he doesn't need to qualify in. However he would add he knows he needs to perform to high standards as the chartered car and wants the best spot possible for the race.

It was race day for the Prospect Showdown and Tim Lateman was hyped for his first ever NSSCRA race even it was just an exhibition. Lateman would be starting in a surprising fourth after a very good qualifying round and had an even better race. Lateman would get a surge into first in the last part of the race and while he would only lead 12 laps they were the final 12 laps. Edmund Flanders almost caught him on the last lap and the two drew even as they got across the line and Lateman was given the victory, sure it was close but he got it done. Unfortunately it doesn't count for points in the standings but it's a great starting point for Lateman and he looks like someone with something to prove.

Despite it not counting for anything in the standings, Lateman has won an invatation to the iROS (iBEN's Race of Stars) to compete against some of the best racers in the multiverse. He gets in because a spot is offered to the current points leader of the tier 2 series but because they haven't had any actual races the winner of the Prospect Showdown got an invitation. He will now travel to Tundra Falls not only for the opening race of the NSSCRA season but for the opening race of the iROS. This of course does not mean he is guaranteed a spot in any of the future iROS races, he would need to do very well in the rest of the tier 2 series but he happily accepts the invitation.

Lateman is honored to be participating against some of the best and while he probably doesn't stand a chance it will still be such a big deal for him and the nation as a whole knowing he is there. It will certainly be a packed week of racing for him and he will be racing at Tundra Falls three times in two weeks.

Biography: The 23 year old Tim Lateman is the third driver out of Kohnhead and just like the nation itself is in his first year of NSSCRA, the 10th season. Racing is not too popular in Kohnhead but Lateman did grow up racing around the track at Lithrop which doesn't say much because it's barely a track. He has competed in a bunch of exhibition races that take place in Kohnhead and has done extremely well in those. He is cousins with BBM owner Kennedy Delaney and many feel that's the reason he's on the team. Heading into their first season BBM elected to send two drivers to the primary series and one to the secondary series, Lateman is the guy going to the secondary series. In the Prospect Showcase at The Proving Grounds Presented by Rocket Automotive he surprisingly finished first to earn this spot. While the race win didn't count for points or anything as it was just a pre season exhibition it was his first ever NSSCRA race.

Tim Lateman will be representing the NSSCRA Tier 2 during the first iROS

"It's green!" said Gongming Gao. Beiyang's drivers were getting their first look at the paint schemes for their cars. Ricky Lee's had an eye-popping combination of blue and yellow, Hengxing Tian's had softer shades of blue and brown, and Gongming Gao's had a lush palette of greens and golds.

"Yes. Firstwind, Caravan Oil, and Four Seasons Bake Shop all have green in their logos, so we thought it was a good way to tie the design together."

"But it's GREEN!" said Gao. "Don't you know that's bad luck in racing!"

There was a moment of awkward silence.

"#44 is bad luck, but it doesn't seem to be slowing down Qiang Kai."

"Qiang Kai got a nasty concussion last season, and his wife beats him," Gao argued.

"Only the way he likes to be beaten."

Gao rolled his eyes. "Okay, but why do I get the green car?"

"Because you're the one sponsored by Firstwind and Four Seasons Bake Shop."

When Gao and his car arrived at the Proving Grounds a couple weeks later, the car was still green and Gao still was not happy about it. But he had more important things to worry about. He had a race to qualify for, and it was time to show everyone that he -- not Tian -- deserved Beiyang's guaranteed charter.

Well, that didn't go according to plan. Gao was mortified to have one of the slowest laps in the whole field, even slower than Tian. For his part, Tian was in his usual 39th place. Switching cars from a Mercado to a Beiyang did not seem to have helped him at all. It was almost like the car wasn't the problem...

Lexi was... disappointed, to say the least. She had failed to qualify, putting in a positively embarrassing 36th in terms of lap times. It was clear that she would need to majorly step up her game if she was to compete this season. The time she had been out of racing had clearly had an impact on her skills, and there was nothing for it but to do the work to knock the rust off. Hard work was something the newly minted Jebslunder (well, dual citizenship, but still) was used to by now. There really was nothing to it but to do it.

Vanda Rosa, meanwhile, was less disappointed. There was a huge field, and she had only started racing at this level in earnest last year. It was to be expected that she wouldn't qualify for every race. The only thing she could do was to make sure she'd do better in the next qualifier, and to keep improving as a racer. That wasn't to say she bore no disappointment; she had failed to qualify, after all. It was just a testament to the amount of competition at this level and with this large a field trying to qualify in, and it almost made her regret not asking to be transferred tot he second-tier series instead.

Eva made sure to take as many practice laps as the track would let her, and twice as many in the simulator. 42nd was nowhere near acceptable to her, who was used to consistently higher qualifiers and finishes. It was clear she'd gotten rusty (though the fact that her car hadn't quite been adjusted right didn't help), and that was a disgrace to her.

So it was that Eva was nowhere to be found for anyone other than her team trying to speak to her. There was simply no time for idle chat or whatever interviews might have been coming her way. She wasn't going to get back into her grove by sitting around flapping her jaw, after all, and there was quite a bit of getting back into said groove to be done.

Post 3 – Cold-booting.

With Jolyn out from the qualifications, at least for this race, she was more or less undeterred. She years about her days when she was doing extremely well in NSSCRA 8, but now needing the charters, she realised that she was more or less starting from the beginning once again. And the qualifications were not as well as she thought she would go - perhaps it was the lack of practice, her signing up on a seperate team, or simply because she was taking it easy.

Still determined, she used the free time to teach Holly a couple of tricks that she has amassed over the season, confidering that her friend was not going to worry about all the heat behind of her.

Back in the lounge, Jolyn found Holly watching TV, while drinking a glass of water that suddenly went cold from her body.

"So how was the very first qualifications?"

"Well, it's okay, I guess," Holly replied back, "For first time, it is not so bad, but I guess I was getting the hang of it. So this is what people called the qualifications?"

"Yeap, basically you are alone on a track, and you have to drive as fast as you can. Then you will have a starting position based on how well you do compared to the others."

"The actual race is tomorrow? How exciting!"

"Indeed. As always, please do be careful and mindful of the others around you. You are not a problem, I know. For the others... let's just say that they would rather not get injured, or get a DNF, or die... or a combination of many other problems."

"Mhm, I will indeed keep that in mind. Thank you, Jolyn!" she took another sip from her glass before putting it away. Jolyn continued to ask her a couple of questions regarding the vehicle for this time.

"How was the handling?"

"It was... a bit stiff. I think I got the hang of it, but the manual gears are a little tedious. Can't I drive Auto?"

"I mean, you could, but it's also a bit of an disadvantage at times. I mean, I know, you are just starting to drive and you already have to drive stickshift - that's a term for Manual - but trust me, you will fare and do better with it. The tradeoff to improved performance is certainly welcome."

"So this is the very first track. We are going to race in other places too, right?"

"Yup, the rest of the Valentians are coming along as well. Clarissa, Valentijn, Gwen, Valentina- err I mean Anastasia. It's going to be pretty fun and thrilling."

"Are the rest of the people here for support too, or are they the pit crew, as you call them?"

"Yes, the pit crew is practically the heart of every driver. Without a proper team to refill, quick-fix, or change the tires of your car, you are more or less going to be in extreme disadvantage. That's always why Jared took his job seriously and with pride. The team never lets us down!"

As the two went on and on for the rest of the night, Holly flipped through the big encyclopedia of NSSCRA, looking at its history, among many other things - scores, names of the drivers, colorful photographs and artpieces, medals, trophies, and more importantly - the terms, rules, and technicalities. She would spend the entire night reading through it, for she did not exactly need sleep.

The Team Blue Center, Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan
After the exhibition race
Frank Bronson climbed out of his Super Skychief, codenamed “Wolfman,” and had a smile on his face. He had contended all race long in the exhibition race, with the assistance of some tandem drafting from Drake Stevenson, and crossed the line in third, behind Clarissa Alanis Star and Jenna Logan. Drake, meanwhile, had been shuffled late in the go and could only muster 12th, while Taylor Henderson, who learned pretty quickly a major disadvantage of tandem drafting, faded to 23rd. But it had been a good race for the Team Blue three, and had provided a very positive view to the season ahead.

As Frank was taking questions from the media on pit road, he spoke about how he felt Team Blue was in such a better place now than they had been in years past. Rather than having to worry about a weak link or a wild card bringing the rest of the team down, the team was now one cohesive unit that would work for each other and for a common goal. All for one and one for all, as it were.

“I don’t think you’re going to have anyone on this team playing the fool or doing something stupid with firecrackers in someone’s motorcoach,” Frank said to a scrum of reporters, including Todd Jones, pit reporter for the Hapilopper Television Network. “We’re here to win, and we’re playing for keeps. Simple as that.”

Back in the infield, Drake Stevenson and Taylor Henderson were walking back to the Team Blue Center to compare notes and experiences about how the exhibition went. Drake appeared to be in a much better mood than Taylor, primarily because of how the two finished.

“Exactly what happened, Hendo?” Drake asked.

“The car overheated like crazy,” Taylor responded. “Water was 270. I had to pull out or I was gonna blow that engine sky high. I looked to the right and saw steam shooting out of the cowl,1 looked at the dash and saw the water temp gauge flashing. I had to pull out.”

“Fair point, but damn, that would have been fun to see the three of us go for the win,” Drake said.

“Yeah, what happened to you?” Taylor asked.

“I got shuffled,” Drake replied. “You know how those guys are on the track. They hear ‘five to go’ from their spotter and they go apeshit. If I stuck with Frank, someone would have turned me. Heh. I think we need to have a talk about how we’re going to do this next week. All of us.”

“No kidding.”

The two went in the TBC to find a handful of crew members already inside, as several team chefs were preparing dinner. On the menu tonight: Pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, green beans and cornbread. As Drake and Taylor took their plates and sat at a dining room table, other crew members and team principal Amanda McAlister took their seats nearby.

“As soon as Bronson gets back from his media obligations, we need to have a discussion about how we’re going to do this tandem drafting,” Drake announced. “I think a lot of this was really ad-hoc and we could benefit from planning this out. I think we learned a bit from this and we could stand to bounce some ideas around.”

Once Frank got back to the TBC, the discussion got going. Taylor got out some sugar packets she had used to demonstrate tandem drafting the other day,2 and the three started discussing what they had learned over the course of the exhibition race.

“For starters, you can’t be a pusher the whole time,” Taylor said. “I think that’s why I ran so hot. I was pushing guys the whole time, and next thing I see, there’s steam shooting out of my car. If you’re going to work with someone, you got to swap from time to time. But if we can work together, we might be able to pull out to a big enough lead where we can swap without losing too much ground to anyone.”

“That is, unless the rest of the field catches on,” Drake said, butting in. “The thing about this series is that nobody in this series is stupid. Even Chris Holmes will catch on to stuff. If they’re smart, we’re going to see a bunch of guys tandeming next weekend, if they feel it'll benefit them. 3 So we have to plan this one out.”

“I see another problem,” Frank said. “If you’re coming from midpack, and you start working together, there’s such a huge speed difference between those of us that have bumpers locked and those that don’t, that we could have a huge wreck if someone’s not careful. We need to communicate for if people are pulling out of line or not.”

“I see another problem too,” Drake said after a bit of a pause, watching Taylor play around with the sugar packets. “There’s three of us. We need a fourth man. Maybe one of us could contact Scott Hawking or something.”

“He’s probably going to work with Holmes if he gets the shot,” Frank interjected.

“To hell with Holmes, Hawking would be better off working with us,” Drake said. “Someone get Hawking on the line, we got to talk with him.”

While Drake walked over to the fridge to help himself to a cold beer, Taylor texted Scott, asking him to come over to the Team Blue Center, offering a proposition for him.

OOC Notes:
1 - In RL NASCAR stock cars, steam will pop out of a valve on the passenger side of the hood if the car is overheating. A great example of this came in the 2019 season finale, when a crew member of Denny Hamlin's put an extra piece of grille tape on the car, which had the unwanted side effect of overheating Denny's car. Denny had to come in for a pit stop in the last stage of the race and might have lost the Cup championship because of it.
2 - This is a reference to the 1990 movie Days of Thunder, specifically the scene where Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) and Dr. Claire Lewicki (Nicole Kidman) are laying in bed and Trickle is showing Lewicki what drafting is, using sugar packets.
3 - I included this line specifically so y'all don't feel forced to do something you may not be interested in doing.

Xannerians exhibit very little in Exhibitions
Excerpts from http://www.Leeiyokoka.xan/blog/NSSCRA.html

NEWMANISTAN - The Exhibition race at Tundra Falls is a way to locate the cobwebs the need to be ousted from your team in hope of the performance improving. The Cobwebs have been discovered for the KRD team as both drivers struggled in Qulifying, and while Gwinnett was fastest of the two KRD cars, the logjam at the top for the six transfer spots mean he was 9th of 6. Gwinnett said in an interview the following

Still had to deal with those bumps, hit them in turn 4 again and that loosened up the car. I think this is a great track but it can be a better track with a pave job. I hope the people here listen to this interview and by the end of the season we can have a new track

On Saturday, there was a second teir series race. The race at Tundra Falls was a success, just not for Tucker Capps. Capps had been a top prospect and ran in the top 5 in points for most the 2034 XCAR season. No w with the NSSCRA division of KRD expanding once more he gets his second international shot. His Tundra Falls race proved all sorts of weird and eventful. As the race got under way the smaller field proved that size was no matter when it came to entrants. The 35 cars included Capps who started in the top part of the field but ran with a race setup already installed in the car showing that it would have a fast setup for the long run. The race in the Prospect exhibition was surprisingly tame, while some drivers like Capps, Lisander's Andrew Holden and Banija's Jelan Ozoemena were competitors in the NSSCRA in the past there was also a mix of young up and comers as drivers like Pyotr Lavrentiev, Edmund Flanders, and Tim Lateman.

Capps had been running in the lead pack. A pack of 6 cars, with the caboose being Capps. But thats when the trouble started. Here's the radio chatter from Capps

CAPPS: Guys I feel something....this is in the front right I think

CREW CHIEF: Ok is bad or minor? Bad or minor?

CAPPS:I think it's a tire, am I clear to go low on the apron?

SPOTTER: Your Good, you can pull down in turn three

SPOTTER: Clear Low

A loud bang is suddenly is heard over Capps radio

CAPPS: MOTHER FUCKER!!! I just blew! I'm sliding in my own oil.....

CAPPS: Damn, I guess that was the vibration, who was the other driver who slid? I saw another car in the wreck

CREW CHIEF: Dunno but they're coming around here with their nose all jacked up.....

This left Capps in 30th place in the final results, beatin and batter but ready for second helpin's. He will run again next week in the 400 mile 134 lap race at the Proving Grounds. Tim Lateman won the race after the field spread out and he took the lead with 12 to go never looking back, but if he did he would have seen the Happilopperan driver Edmund Flanders on his outside, FLander tried on the last turn to pass Lateman, but could get no further than the rear QP on latemans read machine. Official MoV was 0.110 seconds. 13 cars finished on the lead lap.

While the race for the Tundra Falls Exhibition was a great one, I'm writing about the Xannerian side of things. With Gwinnett out of the field, it was up to the poster boy of Xannerian Stock Car racing. Eddie Walters Jr, tried his damndist, but in the end it was a fairly abysmal race for the 32 year old from the Hastings Provence. caught up in a spin early he got behind the 8 ball and an additional incident later on saw him a lap down in 27th place. Up next is the season opener for the series, the official 500 and 400 mile races at Tundra Falls.

Sunday arrived and after Maddy's first race yesterday, it was finally time for The Exhibition at the Proving Grounds to run its course. Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) managed 4th yesterday and many hoped that the Tier 1 guys could keep up the good momentum for the main event itself. With Vilita and Turori represented in 3 of the top 4, one JR car in 21st and another in 28th, it was certainly going to be a fun icebreaker race before the real test next week.

Let's start with Alfonso Mercado (@AM64), who started in 28st after only qualifying into this race by a whisker over Chris Holmes. To some back in TJUN-ia, he would have the better race of the two despite his finishing position. He overtook his teammate during this race a few times and was even in the top half of the field in the latte stages of this race, going as high as 9th. He would fall back closer to the flag to end up in 22nd, but he certainly enjoyed his time out one track. If things are going to be similar next week, then you could expect good things from Mercado across the season.

As for Michael Stefan (@Stefan07), he felt that 21st was around when he felt he might be in qualifying but knew that he could do better in the race. He stayed around that area early on but after getting overtaken by Mercado, he pushed forward and had some good racing up near the front. He made it as high as 5th at one point before the tyres started to give up and he had to pit earlier than expected. That dropped him down to 28th, but he recovered brilliantly to cross the line in 17th. A not bad job by TJUN-ia's only race winner thus far and he hopes for similar results come the main event next week and maybe even all season long.

The big shock would be the winner, as Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha won the Exhibition after standing right behind Mercado in 29th. Jenna Logan was close behind in 2nd and Frank Bronson was the clear best of the non-charters in 3rd, just ahead of Thea Alvarez, Kai Qiang and Jeremiah Brooke himself. Ganglie Zhe would do well in 8th, poleman Yraaga Gilli'i ended up 14th, Cocoabo #78 slid down to 24th as did Hossem Nasri in 28th and Anthony Barnes would end up in 30th. The only non-charter not to make the end was Anavella Ariiki, the 1st of 7 DNFs with Liangmei Li the big name to fall.

NSSCRA is back and just as fun as ever. Next week is the main event as both Tier 1 and Tier 2 kick off the main season. Maddy will be talking the Tundra Falls 400 on Saturday and the T1 boys will begin with the Tundra Falls 500 on Sunday. Whatever may happen, the long road to the Final 4 will begin and I just know that it will be an incredible journey. See you next week!

Hengxing Tian knew he had a lot to prove going into this season of NSSCRA. After a season of lackluster results last year, people were saying he was a pay driver with no talent. Sherpa racing fans called him the Stationary Star (an unflattering translation of the name "Hengxing") and a significant number of Chinese fans rooted for Tsering Chu instead of him. Tian didn't have anything against Chu, but it was still embarrassing that people in his own country would cheer for a foreign driver instead of him.

During preseason testing and training at Beiyang's headquarters in Shenyang, Tian had noticed the icy stares he was getting from Gongming Gao. The winter air was more than cold enough without the extra chill coming from Gao's eyes. Shenyang was north of the Great Wall, where arctic air came blowing down from Siberia and the drivers could feel the linings of their throats and noses freeze just walking around Beiyang's campus between the offices and the garages. Even when the sidewalks had been cleared of snow, they were dotted with little round blops of ice where people had spat on the ground and it froze. The people who cleaned the test track had to be careful not to leave any damp residues that might freeze instead of evaporating. Tian, Lee, and Gao were from places that had milder weather, so none of them were used to this, and Beiyang had to give them advice about how to layer their clothes to protect themselves against the cold more effectively. Thankfully, their firesuits offered some protection from the cold when they were out on the track.

By the time the NSSCRA season started, they were past the coldest weeks of the year. The name "Tundra Falls" made Tian wonder if it ever got bitterly cold like Manchuria -- but on the opening weekend of the NSSCRA season, it was definitely warm enough to breathe without freezing the inside of your throat.

Gao still seemed to think that Beiyang should have given the guaranteed to charter to him instead of Tian.

Tian blamed his struggles last season on inferior equipment, but now he had new equipment and it was time to prove that he could do better. Beiyang was China's top car company, and Tian would never believe that they were inferior to the foreign manufacturers. They had recruited Huliang Ou, a mechanic who had worked on the #44 team for the past three seasons of NSSCRA, to work on Tian's car. If he failed again this year, there was no way he could blame it on the equipment.

Tian was the fastest of the three Beiyang cars in qualifying, but that wasn't saying much. As he climbed out of his car and settled down to watch the remaining cars run their qualifying laps, he noticed Ou giving him a look that said, Is that the best you've got?

Tian knew he still needed to do better. On the day of the exhibition race, Tian felt like his car was keeping up with the field better than the Mercado he drove last year, but he still struggled to move up because when he got in close quarters with another car it was hard to maneuver around them. If the other car was blocking the best line and he was trying to watch the track and listen to his spotter at the same time, it was a lot to process at one time. As much as he hated to admit it, Tian was still learning the hand-eye coordination to handle it all.

His average lap time was more than a second faster than he had been at last year's exhibition race, but what really made this race different from last year was Tian's reaction when he finished a disappointing 32nd place. Instead of screaming at his pit crew or blaming the car, he decided it was time to hit the simulator and get good. That's "good" with a small "g," not the Hapiloppian motor oil.

* In case anyone's interested in the "Stationary Star" nickname, Tian's name in the original Chinese is 田恒星. His parents meant it as a reference to how a fixed star can be used for navigation, something you can rely on as a constant guiding light.

Checkered Flag Pitstop
Round 0 - Exhibition at The Proving Grounds Presented by Rocket Automotive

Image
Track: Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls, Newmanistan
Length: 3.5 miles (Superspeedway)
Record Laptime: 56.342
Pole Winner: Yraaga Gilli'i
Race Winner: Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha
DNFs: 7
#40's Position: 35th, up 2 from start

At last, the NSSCRA community returns to racing at the iconic Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, the stars of today facing the potential stars of tomorrow for the first time in the Exhibition. To some this is a tune-up race for the much more important Tundra Falls 500, but to others, most notably the rookies just entering the sport for the first time on a multiversal scale, it's where they kick back into high gear. This can be said for Shigeru Ishikawa, driver of the FunStar #40, as he turned his first race laps in a NSSCRA top division car, starting 37th at the Proving Grounds.

Of course, a rookie like him didn't get to victory lane in his very first start, points-paying or otherwise, but there was one who cut through the rest of the field like butter on her way to the first victory lane of the season. Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha, driving the Lhotse Love #7, scorched through the field going from 29th on green to scoring the Exhibition victory, using her technological prowess to her advantage and finishing with a checkered flag to her name before the season even started. Behind her in 2nd was Jenna Logan, driving the Dagan Airways #11 car, and sitting in 3rd was the highest placing non-chartered driver on the day, Frank Bronson, driving the Hap Airlines #8 for Team Blue. A sharp witted battle for 4th was just edged out by Thea Alvarez, who in her #46 car got there from all the way in 40th, narrowly beating Sherpa driver Kai Qiang, who with his Sky Dog Airlines #44 rounds out the Top 5.

It was business as usual for the powerhouse Glorious Free Republic Motorsports out of Saint Kanye, and apart from Alvarez scoring 4th, their other 2 drivers scored Top 10 positions, with defending series champion Jeremiah Brooke in 6th and the #3 of Sage Caldwell at 9th, separated by River 'Shark' Suzgar II and Fleftic and 2nd highest finishing non-charter Ganglie Zhe, who finished 7th and 8th respectively. The #2 of Centur Jones rounds out the Top 10 at the Exhibition. Polesitter Yraaga Gilli'i would fall sharply to 14th, with defending Tundra Falls 500 winner Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton 2 spots behind the #41, finishing 16th. Cocoabo #78 would have a hard fall, however, plummeting from 5th on green to 24th when it was all set and done. 7 drivers DNFed from the race, including a terrible race from Anavella Ariiki, the 46th car on green in Ahron Ahndreus, open chartered driver Liangmei Li, the other Shigeru, Sword Island's Michael Rush and Holly Aurora Lapia Starlight, the last 3 caught up in the biggest wreck of the race.

No standings will be provided due to the Exhibition being a non points paying race, but all eyes have been focused on the great race, the Tundra Falls 500. The season, and many destinies up and down the field, will start there.
