The Holmes House, Buckridge, Hapilopper
Weeks after the Toys ‘4’ All 500
While the wild and wooly world of international stock car racing had traveled from nation to nation all across the multiverse, it had left Chris Holmes behind. He hadn’t boarded a plane in weeks. He hadn’t left Hapilopper since leaving the Hawking-Byrd team, and he hadn’t really followed the world of NSSCRA racing since leaving. And for it, he was the happiest he had ever been. Rather than stressing out over making a race, or getting pissed off over bad runs on the track, Chris was enjoying himself at work.

He had taken a job as a forklift driver at a Mel’s Ultra-Mart distribution center, a warehouse responsible for getting products to Mel’s stores across the Buckridge area. It paid decently well, people didn’t bug him if they recognized him from the NSSCRA, and he could finally do some honest work. Better yet, it looked like he was taking care of his health for the first time in ages. Chris was eating better than he had in ages, he was getting more active, and as a result had lost a ton of weight. He had also met a ladyfriend, a woman named Angela, who worked at a Motherbread’s not far from the Mel’s warehouse. The two hit it off, and on this evening, Chris was getting ready to go out with her for the evening.

Chris hadn’t told Angela what he had done before he took the job at the Mel’s warehouse. He was honestly a little ashamed of what he had been in the past. He didn’t really know what Angela thought of auto racing, primarily because he didn’t ask her. He just appreciated someone who didn’t seem all that judgmental, someone who didn’t give him strange looks because they might have recognized him from the past.

As he got dressed for the evening – and dressed nice, too, not like the slob he had looked like in a past life – he looked at a couple of pictures that meant the world to him. One of them was of him and Angela at a mutual friend’s birthday party. The two looked so much in love with each other. Chris looked like, for the first time in years, that he was truly enjoying life for what it was, rather than trying to make something out of nothing. The other picture was of him in victory lane with the rest of Team Blue at the Kermania Fortress Run in Jebslund a couple of years back. Chris was holding the trophy, flanked by Drake Stevenson and Ken Henson, while the rest of the team stood behind Chris’s car, about as happy as could be.

That picture represented what could have been. At that time, Chris had been pegged as Hapilopper’s next great racing champion. Experts predicted so many wins from him and multiple NSSCRA championships. As he looked at the picture, he wondered what could happen if – maybe if – he could get one more shot from Team Blue.

After leaving Hawking-Byrd, Chris was called by multiple teams inquiring about his services, both in the NSSCRA and in HASCAR. He told them all “thanks, but no thanks” and informed him that he was taking a break from racing. Maybe for forever. But the truth is, any other team would be wrong. Joining any other team would just be wrong. But he feared that the team he wanted, Team Blue, would never even consider signing him. After all, they had three solid drivers – Drake Stevenson, Frank Bronson and Taylor Henderson – and it seemed almost a certainty that they would promote from within. One of their two HASCAR drivers, Mark Arbuckle or Brooks Benson, seemed certain to get the third Team Blue seat for NSSCRA 11.

Chris didn’t want to drive for anyone else. He decided that, come NSSCRA 11, if he couldn’t get a seat with that one team, regardless of who else wanted him, he would just put out a press release stating he had retired from racing.

As he turned out the light and headed out of his house to pick up Angela, he thought about the “what if’s.”

What if I hadn’t acted like an ass in TJUN-ia?
What if I had just let the petty shit off the track get out of the way and focused on racing instead?

The drive to Angela’s was quiet. He wasn’t excited about the day to come. He was actually kind of depressed. For the first time in weeks, he was missing the dog-eat-dog world of racing. He was missing the chance to battle the world’s best at 200 miles per hour.

And when he picked up Angela, she could tell something was bothering him.

“Is everything OK, Chris?” she asked him.

“Kind of,” Chris replied. “Let me tell you about it on the way there.”

And so, as the two drove to the Fresh Grill, a nice high-end restaurant in downtown Buckridge, Chris told Angela about what he had done in his past life. He told her about how he had been a racing driver, competing in the top levels of the sport. He told her about how he had been viewed as one of the top talents of the future, someone that could win races, championships and more. And then he told her about how he ruined it.

Crucially, he made sure she knew he wasn’t blaming anyone else for it.

“All of this? The things that cost me my racing career? One hundred percent my fault,” Chris told her. “It was nobody else’s fault but mine.”

And as the two pulled in to the Fresh Grill’s parking lot, Chris came clean with her. While he was happy with the life he had as a forklift driver at the Mel’s warehouse, he kind of missed racing in the NSSCRA.

Before the two got out of the car to head in to the restaurant, Chris turned to look at her. He had a very deadly serious look on his face.

“I just need to know something from you, Angie,” Chris said. “And this one is important to me. If, by some chance, I could get the third Team Blue seat next season, would you support me?”

Angela thought about it for a while. She had never gone to a motor race in her life. She had never watched racing on television. She could tell you who Kai Qiang and Drake Stevenson were, but that was because they appeared on commercials for HTN’s coverage of the NSSCRA, and those commercials aired all the damn time.
Her first reaction was to say ‘no’, because she was scared of Chris going all over the place and reverting back to the Chris Holmes he had been. He had told her that he was scared to death of regressing to the fat, long-haired party animal he had been. The kind of guy that would stick iguanas in racing cars. The kind of guy that would demolish the Team Blue Center in a rage. The kind of guy that stripped naked in TJUN-ia.

But she kept thinking of it.

“Chris, I’m not going to say this lightly, but I’d support you,” Angela said. “But do you think you could get the seat?”

“I hope so,” Chris said. “But I don’t know if they’d even want to talk to me.”

by Squidroidia
The sun shone down on the Spartansburg Speedway for Saturday's practice and qualifying for the FunStar Squidroidia 400. When the Inklingcraft Singularity team entered the NationStates Stock Car Racing Association at the dawning of the 10th season of competition, nobody knew that the circus would come here and with a capacity crowd for qualifying. Yes, the EverLong Contender's Series was set to come here to test the waters, even when Drew's lost the battle for the naming rights of the series, but the best in the world were setting up shop at the 1.5 mile oval. That, of course, included the 2 Squidroidians on board. Shigeru Ishikawa was on the outside looking in, and needed a win to make the Chase, especially to steal Rookie of the Year honors away from the #00 of Fiona Sunarya. The other? A certain Daryl Mizushima of WGPC fame.

If anything, a good chunk of people came to the speedway just to see Daryl, in his unsponsored #63 ride, race stock cars at his home country against the best in the world. Of course, most people knew him from his exploits in open wheel racing - An 18 year old making the jump from karts to the top flight of motorsport, only to not do so hot. But most people knew him for that qualifying performance at Hapilopper City - From a string of DNQs to a Q4 appearance and 6th on the grid, snapping up a couple points along the way. But most people were here for Shigeru, but Daryl was always there in the infield, taking it all in. He was racing in freaking NSSCRA!

After practice was set and done and the qualifying trims were set for the teams hoping to make the show or at least snatch some good positions, qualifying began. One by one the cars would go out and try to set the fastest time on a slow, flat, bumpy oval that they didn't know before. The surface made for some highlights - Among the superstars who fell flat were River 'Shark' Suzgar II, Thea Alvarez and Rinzi Aogar Zakilwal, neither of the 3 having the skill needed to outwit the bumps and keep the car's power to optimal levels for qualifying. Higher up the field there would be stories - Kassie Collins would guide her Stevens car once again ahead of Michael Rush by qualifying 23rd, while Sage Caldwell nearly snatched pole position away from Kai Qiang and ahead of Taylor Henderson by a close amount. But not even the drama surrounding the #3 and the #73 compared to what the #40 had in store for the home crowd.

Shigeru Ishikawa knew Spartansburg. It's his home track, as Midnight doesn't really have a track to speak of, and he got to where he was in NSSCRA by outwitting 15 other drivers from the country chosen by Inklingcraft in a 101 lap race for the seat. It was his rightful return home in a sense... He just had to capitalize on it and put on a performance. He would warm up for his hot lap around the 1.5 mile track as the crowd around him started to cheer him on - There were Dagans, Vilitans and TJUN-ians in attendance, but the Squidroidians which called the track home were cheering one driver on. Shig-gy! Shig-gy! Shig-gy! The cheers were heard across the speedway as the #40 warmed up. If there was one thing that was going to make them go ballistic, it was going to be a great qualifying performance, one that may gain the respect that the open wheelers had when Daryl entered an elite club of World Grand Prix Championship drivers...

When Shigeru rounded Turn 4, he was off to the races. The crowd were a nonfactor to him as the roar of the engine was heard throughout, negotiating with the white line as he took Turns 1 and 2. As he did, the crowd noticed that he was fast. It might be because of the home field advantage, but the Inklingcraft Splattershot he was piloting was rivaling speeds set by Gilli'i and Stefan earlier in qualifying, and the crowd noticed. Their voices grew louder as the hot lap continued, Ishikawa trying to stay on the groove at any and all times. He looked like he was going to pull off a top 10 qualifying laptime with the silver and black FunStar branding entering Turn 3. The noise generated by the crowd was simmering, about to hit a boiling point. He would exit Turn 4 and sprint back to the start/finish line, and when he crossed it...

The crowd went nuts.

It wasn't pole. It wasn't a front row start. But it was Shigeru's first career top 10 start. He had qualified 7th at his home track of Spartansburg Speedway, ahead of Bryan Harrison by the width of a piece of sheet metal. The crowd was deafeningly loud as the FunStar #40 cooled down. They had witnessed their countryman qualify on row 4 for the FunStar Squidroidia 400. For the sport of stock car racing in the country, it was a huge boost, as the printing presses were already hot. "SPEEDY SHIGGY QUALIFIES 7TH", one back page headline would say on Sunday. "GREEN FLAG FOR THE SQUIDROIDIANS" would be the headline of the Inkopolis based racing publication Squidroidia Speedzine, with the #40 and #63 front and center - Daryl had qualified 30th with a 44.017 laptime, amazingly ahead of defending series champion Jeremiah Brooke. It was a watershed moment for stock car racing. It could only go up from here.

By the time the grid was set for the FunStar Squidroidia 400, the noise generated by the hot lap Shigeru had was long gone, replaced by the expectation around the Drew's 300, a preview on what the Main (Cup) Series race would look like. Pyotr Lavrentiev would score his 2nd win of the season as Glorious Free Republic Motorsports' own research and development driver, with Al Shelton scoring 2nd. It was a relatively close race for the 2, but as Shelton sat on top of the regular season standings, the eyes were on the Chadwick used by the #19 car. Chadwick dealerships weren't really well known in Squidroidia, due to their reliance more on public transport and the Splattershots dotting the highways of Squidroidia, but there was a market for Chadwicks growing after Sage's outside pole and Lav's EverLong win. Perhaps the Chadwicks could be a high-end alternative to the cheap Inklingcrafts, but there was a race on Sunday. And you know the saying - Race on Sunday, sell on Monday.

In the real life NBC Sports broadcasts, the top 20 drivers in qualifying (Or the drivers in the Playoffs when that comes around) are given a small introduction window to say their name, the team they race for and their manufacturer. When Chase Elliot is introduced for a race, he would usually say something along the lines of "Chase Elliot, Hendrick Motorsports Chevy". I tried to do the same with the top 20 drivers from FunStar Squidroidia 400 qualifying, but instead of manufacturer, I had them say their number (Since NSSCRA usually only has one manufacturer per team, with a manufacturer supplying chassis for 2 or more teams being rare). If you're not fine with this or have any edits that you'd like to make for it, please TG me. Thank you.

After the Leader of Squidroidia, Higa Takanori, uttered the most famous words in motorsports and the cars went onto the track, Squidroidian broadcaster SBN 1 showed the driver intros of the drivers who qualified in the top 20.

Two days before the FunStar Squidrodia 400

The auction for Jeremiah Brooke's SICO 480 helmet took place as planned, and the piece of NSSCRA memorabilia was eventually sold for NS$50,000 (ℂ25,000) to a Newmanistani collector. However, both Sherpaland and South Newlandia have universal healthcare (unlike St. Kanye), and thus Brooke won't be able to use the money to help with Yuan Qiang or Mariah Dragonovic's hospital bills. So when he approached Yuan's brother Kai and Mariah's son Robin, both his fellow racers, he told them to instead use their twenty-five grand for food or other expenses.

"And here I thought you'd keep the money after being told they're getting healed for free," Sage Caldwell told his teammate later at the GFR paddock.

"No, man, I had always intended to help when I put that helmet up for auction. That's just me, wanting to help, getting good karma gives me the good vibes, you know. When people hear my name I want them to think only good thoughts."

"So you help others to make yourself feel good. That's, like, being selfish and selfless at the same time."

"Shut up, Sage. Just how high are you when you thought of that?"

"High? I'm five foot ten, fool, you know that."

Caldwell paused for a few seconds.

"Hey J, did Drake ever say when Hendo was gonna show? I mean, it's Friday, we've been in Squidroidia since Tuesday and nothing from the four-eyed she-devil yet."

Thea Alvarez chimed in. "That's the fourth time you've asked today. Why are you so anxious about meeting Hendo anyway?"

"Well.... I might have done something bad. You remember when they called us one by one in the studio to give driver intros?"

"Yeah?" asked Brooke.

"Sage, you're up," Alvarez told her teammate, who was playing some Cassadagan puzzle game on his phone.

"What?"

"Yeah, Centur's just walked out of the room. You're next."

"Yes, Mom, I'm getting up." Caldwell paused his game, put the phone in his pocket and entered the room where a television crew was already waiting.

"Alright Mr. Caldwell, you know the drill. Name, team, number," said the cameraman.

"Can I say a few words after?"

"You mean something like 'Let's have a good race' or 'Are you ready, Squidroidia'?"

".......Well, something like that."

"Can't see why not. Okay. Take a seat there, we'll give you the signal, then you speak."

"Got it." Caldwell sat and had his hair and makeup done. A couple of minutes later...

"Three, two, one.... and action!"

Nothing.

"Mr. Caldwell, we're already rolling."

"Oh, sorry. Well.... okay then. Sage Caldwell, Glorious Free Republic Motorsports #3, Taylor Henderson is an idiot."

The crew looked shocked for a few seconds, after which the head editor spoke.

"Eh, to hell with it, we're just gonna cut that part out. Can anyone call Bryan Harrison in now, please?"

Ricky Lee was visibly frustrated after being narrowly outqualified by Gongming Gao for the last unchartered spot in the FunStar Squidroidia 400.

Gao tried to comfort him, speaking in the unique hodge-podge of Chinese and English that they used to communicate within the Beiyang garage. "Don't worry; you'll qualify for the next one."

"I wanted to qualify for this one!" Lee said, still agitated.

"Just look what we're competing against," said Gao. "One of the top drivers is a descendant of Yuqiang, another is a robot, there's a couple of giant mutant freaks... Of course it's hard to compete with that as a normal human driver!"

Xuan Tou facepalmed when he overheard the conversation. He was getting really tired of the Yuqiang talk. "Nobody in NSSCRA is a descendant of Yuqiang because Yuqiang doesn't exist," he said.

Gao refused to drop it. "Do you know how much of an advantage it would give Qiang Kai if he can control the wind?"

"Qiang Kai can't control the wind," said Tou. He patted Lee on the shoulder. "Don't worry about today. You'll qualify next time." He didn't think there was any point in being harsh on Lee. Lee was obviously trying his best and things just hadn't gone his way today.

Going to a brand new track was always going to be a tough ask, especially in a country that was very much new to the multiversal sporting scene. Such was the case when NSSCRA paid a visit to Sword Island for the SICO 480. Last year every track had been a brand new track for UrGa Stock Car Department, but at least they had had an entire season the year previous to scout out the tracks and get the lay of the land, so to speak. This year they didn't have the luxury of being able to scout Brisbane International Raceway, meaning they had little available information on which they could make strategies and plans.

Dinggu Wang was the one most affected by this unfamiliarity with the track in Brisbane. At 51.187 seconds, Wang set the 43rd fastest time out of the whole grid, a time that would have seen him out of the race had he not held a guaranteed charter. As things stood, he would be starting the SICO 480 from 40th place, dealing his already tenuous NSSCRA Championship campaign yet another blow. The interesting thing though was that his younger teammates, supposedly working on the same information that Wang had, was able to place themselves comfortably in the midfield. So the lack of data on the track itself wasn't an issue for UrGa as a whole. Something else must be up.

And then, as if things couldn't get any worse, Dinggu Wang found himself DNFing out of a NSSCRA race for the third time in his career. It happened when Wang drove over a piece of debris from the earlier punch-up between Taylor Henderson and Sage Caldwell that had been missed by the marshals, causing Wang's rear left tyre to blow out. This tyre blowout made Wang's Luxur Byzant spin around before smashing into the wall sideways at the exit of the hairpin turn. There was a brief moment of concern from the whole paddock when there didn't appear to be any movement at all coming from the #79 car, but when the radio came alive with Chinese expletives everyone was able to breathe a sigh of relief.

Once again Dinggu Wang blamed himself for being such a complete failure. Yes, all three drivers at UrGa didn't have a lot of information to work with about the Brisbane International Raceway, but that hadn't been too much of a problem for Ganglie Zhe and Hossem Nasri. If he hadn't been so poor with qualifying then maybe he wouldn't have hit that debris that the marshals had failed to pick up. There were so many things that Wang could see wrong with his performance, things that he was hypersensitive to because of the expectations that had been heaped upon him by his new team. All he thought he was going to get with UrGa was another chance to drive in NSSCRA. Wang never imagined that he would be designated as the team's challenger for the championship. He supposed that the weight of responsibility had already been weighing down on him since the start of the season, but only now was Wang realizing the gravity of the whole situation.

"Wuying, do you think that there's any chance that you can get me a meeting with Miss Gatutina?" Wang asked his translator Wuying Huang after the race in Sword Island.

"Why, Dinggu? What would you like to talk about with her?" Huang asked.

"I want to talk about my contract with the team."

"Sure, of course," Huang nodded. "What about your contract would you want to talk about? Your wages, an extension for next season, what?"

"I want to talk about my role," Wang said. "I want to tell Miss Gatutina that I don't think I will be able to win the NSSCRA Championship for her this season."

Land of Kids and Squids Welcomes Us All

We are, slowly but surely, approaching the end of the NSSCRA X Regular Season. Places in the Chase are still yet to be filled and as we arrive in the nation of Squidroidia, every race now matters from here on out. Originally, Spartansburg Speedway was only supposed to host the T2 Drew's 300 but they were given a Main Series race as well at the request of the NSSCRA and so, T1 are also in town for the FunStar Squidroidia 400. In a pivotal weekend, it is the land of kids and squids who are in the spotlight this weekend.

Let's begin in the Main Series itself and while Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) was still in a bit of an iffy mood, he was fired up to take Spartansburg on with all his might. The 1.5-mile oval was certainly a friend to #64 today as he would rock up fastest of the non-charters in 10th, a brilliant drive to set up an interesting race tomorrow. Hossem Nasri wasn't that far behind in 12th while Kassie Collins was the non-charter best of the rest in 23rd. Vanda Rosa Cordeiro Kerman (26th) and Jolyn Maxine Helen Ceeta (29th) both made it in while Gongming Gao completed the non-charter lineup in 33rd, beating teammate Ricky Lee by what could only be described as the divine intervention of Yuqiang himself. The non-charter for this weekend in WGPC driver Daryl Mizushima and he will start this race from a respectable 30th.

As for Michael Stefan (@Stefan07), he was looking to continue his good form and his journey get as high in the standings as he can before the Chase kicks off in a few weeks' time. He was a little bit slower than his teammate today but 13th is something he will certainly take. Kai Qiang certainly put what happened to his sister (Lord Bless Her Soul) behind him as he took pole today ahead of Sage Caldwell and Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye. Shiggy - that's home driver Shigeru Ishikawa - but in a blinder to end up in 7th for tomorrow, just ahead of Bryan Harrison and just behind Demon Queen Taylor Henderson (yes, that might get me into trouble. No, I do not regret that at all. Learn how to respect your fellow drivers, OK? Unless if becoming NSSCRA's answer to Nate Ellis is your priority).

Now then, how about T2? Well, qualifying for Contenders' Drew 300 was on Friday this time around and Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) put in a good performance to qualify for today's race in 6th. Valkyrie Valentijn Samantha Constantine would get another pole position ahead of Pyotr Lavrentiev and Barnabas Mate while Robin Dragonovic, who is still racing despite the condition of his mother (Lord Bless Her Soul As Well), would start in 9th. The race itself was kicked off by Mizushima himself and if the Main Series race is anything like this one, it will be a fun one indeed. Four retirements and all the chaos saw Pyotr Lavrentiev get his 2nd win of the season ahead of new points leader Al Shelton and, surprisingly, Maddy herself. It's her 2nd podium so far in her debut season, just about beating Robin Dragonovic to the final podium spot. She celebrated it all but made sure to give plaudits to the South Newlandian in her post-race interview, saying that driving the way he did after the events back home "showed just how brilliant of a driver he is. To experience what he has and to come over here and put in a performance like that is admirable and definitely shows he deserves to be here." If you are reading this, Robin, then I would like to share in the sentiments. Maddy and I just want to say that you are a brilliant driver and good luck for the rest of the season.

So then, the field is set, and with some big stars towards the back, how will Squidroidia's first big race shake up the Chase? I guess we will have to wait and see...

Current Standings: (T1) #07 - 16th (327pts/1W)/#64 - 31st (193pts)/(T2) #03 - 6th (289pts/1W)
Next T1 Race: FunStar Squidroidia 400, Spartansburg Speedway, Spartansburg, Squidroidia
Next T2 Race: Drew's 300, Spartansburg Speedway, Spartansburg, Squidroidia

Hi there!

Look, I know you may not be in the best position to talk right now and I totally understand that. But I just want to echo what I said in my post-race interview earlier. You definitely deserve to be in this series.

The performance you gave today, despite everything that is going on back home, was one for the best drives I've seen from you. You certainly gave me a good fight to 3rd today and, if you did beat me today, then I would be happy for you all the same. What you did out there is what I knew you could do all along and I'm happy it's finally being shown to the rest of the world.

I hope you're doing alright and if you need anything, just let me know. Keep up the good work, Robby.

Yuqiang. Try as she might, the aspect of God, as Vanda Rosa saw him, seemed out of her reach. She had followed Gao's instructions to the letter. Made all the prayers to God she felt she needed. Even, in a long break between races, gone to the place Gao had and tried the process again. But none of it lead her to the illusory pavilion. None of it lead her to Yuqiang. Either, she reasoned, Gao had been lying about the encounter (unlikely, though possible. His apparent surprise that the reason of her visit was to ask how he'd done it suggested the rumors had not been sourced from him), or he had been truthful, but Yuqiang had either deemed her unworthy to visit him, or had been angered by Gao's visit and had decided not to see anyone. Either way, it was with great disappointment that she went to Spartanburg. While her success in qualifying, and with a better time than Lexi, who had gotten the charter HIR had vacated, raised her spirits somewhat, it was not enough to completely erase the sting of disappointment from her failure to learn more about Yuqiang.

A part of her wondered if she had done something to offend the god. Perhaps God had deemed her motives impudent, and had denied her access to the pavilion, or had decided Yuqiang was not hers to see, or even decided that the notion that they were one and the same was blasphemous. Perhaps Yuqiang was some manner of demon, and God had acted to protect her. Perhaps it was simply that she was not Chinese, and there was therefore nothing to be gained by her visiting Yuqiang, or, worse, perhaps, like the Krakken, only the proper eyes could look upon Yuqiang's form without being lost in God's infinite depths. A part of her wondered if it wasn't somehow for the best that her quest had ended in failure. God was not to be angered, after all. Perhaps she was simply not ready to encounter Yuqiang, and might have acted foolishly had she seen him.

Regardless, she had a race to prepare for. Not that her thoughts about her failure helped in that.

TIONES SLICES THROUGH SWORD ISLAND

SICO 480, Brisbane International Raceway, Brisbane, Sword Island :: Centur Tiones' NSSCRA career got off to a slow start during NSSCRA Season 6, but they were finally able to secure their first ever Top 10 finish on the twists and turns of the Kermania Fortress Run six races into the season. After missing out on the NSSCRA Chase Playoffs, Tiones and the #2 Tiones Lumber crew got to work experimenting on new setup approaches for Season 7 and hit on something big during the Round of 8. While they weren't eligible to advance, Tiones secured more points than any other driver over the three race stretch that included the Sankyoku Tri Oval in Aji No Moto, the Vilitan Mountain Challenge Course in Rockii Coast and finally Imperial Speedway in Vangaziland.

Of course, the inaugural Gryphon Supermarket 250 in South Stead, Vangaziland is a race that will not soon be forgotten by Tiones and the entire Vilita and Turori Motorsports team. The Tiones Lumber dart dominated the weekend much to the disappointment of the home fans in Vangaziland who were hoping to see one of their own drivers at the top of the charts to propel them into the Championship 4. Instead, however, it was Tiones, the non-playoff driver who recorded their first career pole and first career victory to take a rare pole and race weekend sweep at the NSSCRA's highest level. It would also secure Tiones' spot at Vilita & Turori Motorsports for the following season but Tiones would once again fail to advance to the NSSCRA Chase Playoffs.

Despite being one of the strongest drivers to open the season and finishing inside the Top 16 in the regular season point standings. However a DNF at the Plum Lake Circuit in the Sherpa Empire late in the Regular Season derailed Tiones playoff hopes and a victory by Alex Knight of the Hampton Island from outside the Top 16 in the point standings would ultimately knock the #2 Tiones Lumber Dart team out of the Playoff Field. With no victories and only consistency to fall back on, Tiones would be the only Vilita & Turori Motorsports driver to not advance to the Round of 16.

Once again, despite not being an eligible playoff driver, Centur Tiones was one of the top performing drivers of the Chase. A pair of Top 5's in the Round of 16 would be bested once again in the Round of 8 when Tiones would score their second career victory. Once again, Tiones, a non-playoff driver, had one a playoff race and had done so in the penultimate round to take away the chance for a playoff driver to earn a golden ticket into the Championship 4. After scoring their first career victory on a Short Track, Tiones second would be a winding tour through Die Landschaftlich Schöne Strecke in Jebslund.

Once again, a late season victory for Tiones quieted any discussion about whether or not Tiones would return behind the wheel of the #2 for Vilita and Turori Motorsports the following season. For NSSCRA Season 8, Tiones would not wait long at all to find victory lane, taking their third career checkered flag in just the third race of the season - the first ever Kobold Tools 300 at Starkville Raceway in New Northwesteros. More importantly, however, the victory in New Northwesteros would also provide Tiones a ticket to the NSSCRA Chase Playoffs. Unfortunately, despite a pair of pole positions, Tiones could not put together the same calibre of results over the final 10 races that they did the previous two seasons. Finishes of 26th and 19th in the Round of 12 would spell the end of Tiones playoff dreams while both of Tiones' teammates River 'Shark' Suzgar II and Yraaga Gilli'i would advance to the Championship 4.

During NSSCRA Season 9, Tiones would once again secure a victory during the Regular Season to secure their place in the NSSCRA Playoffs Chase, this time collecting a victory in the Bank of Carolina 400 in the Appalachian Nation. It was the third Short Track victory of Tiones career but for the second consecutive season, the #2 Tiones Lumber Dart would be eliminated in the Round of 8 after back to back 20th place finishes despite having earned pole position at the LI River Speedway. After a third place finish in New Northwesteros during the seocnd round of NSSCRA Season 10, Tiones was looking for another consistent season in the points. From there, however, team #2 would slowly slide back until suffering a DNF during round 10 in TJUN-ia that saw Tiones end the race on their side. As they slid out of the Top 16 it seemed that Tiones could be headed out of the Playoffs and potentially out of a ride. With their career on the line, Tiones would step up to the plate in a way they never fully could before. Tiones mastered the Brisbane International Circuit in Sword Island using tips received from Everlong Series teammate Lotara Novorali who won the Contenders series event at the track earlier in the season. It was the second career road course victory for Tiones and with just 16 races on the NSSCRA 10 regular season schedule, it also assured Tiones a place in the NSSCRA Chase for the third consecutive season. Now, however, it was time to to shift gears for Tiones who has been eliminated in the Round of 8 the previous two seasons and has never yet live up to the level of performance of their teammates.

In the Vilita & Turori Racer NSSCRA Pick 'em Competition, @ole_yutzie would narrowly deny @DMizushima63 a second top performance of the season with a top score of 159. Cassadaigua's own Celebrity participant Meghan Wolcott surprisingly outperformed her fellow countrymates while current overally leader Skiia Vialiv maintained her advantage at the top with the third best score of the round.

Once again, it was a long stop for Jolyn. She was not able to make it through the qualifications, which is beginning to come off as a non-surprise.

"Well, I would hate to say it, and you guys would hate to hear it, but again, no luck. I swear, at this point, I am just going around on the tracks for fun because I love it," Jolyn announced as her students asked about her results for the day. A lot of disappointments and sympathies were had, but Jolyn was able to get over it quickly, not because she did not want her students to be focused too much on it; after all, she would love to see and hear them talk about her career. It was simply that she was so used to this, that qualifying might become more of a miracle.

"Yeah, don't worry about that," she reassured them, "I might get a break down the line. It cannot be doom and gloom for the entire season. Even if it is one, it is still a good opportunity nonetheless." She trailed off for a few seconds as she looked through the list of agendas for the day. "Review of a Video Game across the universe," she muttered - a fascinating subject (more so for a school) that she established because they too got video games from other worlds. The Valentians love their video games, so they also have extradimensional sources when they are done with their own. Jolyn clears her throat and talk to her virtual class one again, "All right, for today, we have quite a surprise: This game about the underwater world that went awry. There are several things that we can take away from it, like greed, unhinged scientific advancement for the worse, and the like. You know, that kind of thing where there are no restrictions to what kind of things you can do..."

As Jolyn trails off with her lecture, Holly on the other hand was trying her best on the simulator. Maybe she might not get the big break that she wants just yet, but she was still confident that she can still do a little something with the race tomorrow. She started off with a few laps on the simulator, then walking along the track as the sun sets. She learned not to do the tracking during the night - a few races back, she did just that at night and spooked a couple of security guards, all thanks to the fact that even in her fire suit, Holly was still glowing radiantly. The blue glow of hers was the source of the spook and as a result of that, she stopped going to tracks at night. The sunset walk around the track was an uneventful but peaceful one for Holly, nonetheless. She was getting more confident with herself, walking around and talking to people without having a Valentian beside her, or becoming too increasingly nervous about people around her. Then again, there is a difference between talking to people who simply wants to win in a motorsports, versus talking to leaders and various shady characters that definitely does not have the best of intentions for her and instead would see her exploited because of her nature.

Coming back quietly at night, she lied down on her own bed, rolling around and accidentally freezing the blanket. Letting out a bit of a chuckle, she lied down anyway, because the bed can definitely handle that. She does not exactly need sleep, but the excitement of what is to come for the next day would need her to be prepared and relaxed.

The next day happened, and all-in-all, it was not that much eventful for Holly herself. Adriana once again took over as her crew chief, with the rest of the crew being normal Valentian folks; cloning herself to fill the ranks of the crew would not work for her only because Holly does not know much about being a pit crew member. Clearing her mind, Holly pushed her car onto her starting position of 25th, started her engine, and did the rolling start with the rest of the vehicles around her. "Holly, this is going to be a road course, so do be careful!" Adriana reached her on the chatter.

"I got it, thank you!" she replied with a quiet nod, and with that, she was away! As the race rolled on, she was making a bit of strides with herself, gaining a few positions while keeping a distance from the other vehicles around her. That would be the key - keeping distance. For the good and greatest of reasons, the Valentians have always been known to keep a distance from the other racers unless it is the Valentians and Gardeners themselves; if they are around each other and even sometimes accidentally hindering each other's progress, that is no a problem, they totally understand. However, Holly, just like the other Valentians, soon found out why they have been so persistent on keeping that said distance. She watched in horror as #3 was bumped off the road by #73, resulting in the former getting the disqualification. At least, that was what Holly thought fundamentally while not being able to see most of it in detail.

Adriana (#55, C): We are getting heavy chatter about a crash. A rather large pile-up, you all right?
Holly (#55): ...
Adriana (#55, C): Holly? Are you okay? Did you get into the crash?
Holly (#55): ... Oh no, I am sorry. I was just so nervous... that is all. Oh dear, that is-... terrible. Very terrible.
Adriana (#55, C): Yeah, this can unfortunately happen. Try to stay calm and away from the crash and turns that you have trouble with. You will be fine, I believe in you!

As Holly got the reassurance from her friend, along with the rest of the Valentian crew cheering her up, Holly got down into the business. The middle segments would see her losing her ground and getting back down to the 30th and even down to 35th, the last in the 3rd Segment. "She's not recovering from that as fast as we thought," Adriana commented while she muted the headset, "I have faith in her, but I can only hope that she will make this through." Holly went for a pit stop, citing that she needed a little bit of a rest. The tire and fuel changing were not a big deal, for they have been done and processed rather quickly. However, the shock that she got from that accident was still a bit for her.

Holly (#55): Oh dear goodness... I will be fine, don't worry. I expected this when I signed up, but that was just wrong to me.
Adriana (#55, C): Keep it calm and well, Holly! You got this, trust me! No one is going to push you. We don't have that kind of track record. Err... maybe except one, but y'know, he's not here.

Gripping the steering wheel a little and steadily getting out of the pits, Holly was once again on the track. This time, she got a bit of a regained confidence, combined with overtaking other drivers as they went for a pit stop. Perhaps making an early pit stop was not a big deal if they have to do it eventually down the line. With this renewed confidence, she was able to tear her way through until she made it to 8th, perhaps the best performance that she has put up personally. However, as misfortune would have it, she was once again shocked and scared by a turn, causing an overbraking scenario followed by screeching along off-course. It was not enough to cause her to be DNF'ed, but it was still enough for her to drop back to the 30th positions.

"Well, err... better than nothing, hm hm!" Holly simply smiled and cheered when she was asked by the reporters around her. While she was not the bona fide driver that everyone was eying for just yet, she was getting a bit more attention than usual because more people are beginning to know about her. "A being made out of limitless energy" would not definitely fly when came across conquering or greedy folks, but for Holly, these people at NSSCRA are someone that she feels that she can trust with her life. At least this life. With a smile that still could not be seen by the crowd (nothing but her eyes), she waited patiently and answered the questions that were asked about her, as well as about the race itself.

As the sun sets and it was once again nighttime, Holly would take out her fire suit and went off to a nearby nature reserve that she could find. A dark and calming forest, faintly lit and given an enchanting feel by her own body. "Ahh, some peace and quiet. Today was very hectic!" Holly said quietly to herself as she stretched out her hand and a butterfly lands on her finger. Her hand was lukewarm at best and 20 degrees Celsius at worst, so there was no problem with her freezing everything she touches like a derivative of King Midas.

Spartansburg Speedway, Spartansburg, Squidroidia
The day before the FunStar Squidroidia 400

Once again, qualifying was a mixed bag for the GFR trio. It seems like the Lannisburg Complex in New Northwesteros has some competition when it comes to being the track most brutal on tires, with Spartansburg Speedway also sporting a rough, bumpy surface. Despite this, Sage Caldwell took the outside pole, sharing the front row with Kai Qiang. However, just a couple of rows behind him is Taylor Henderson, causing the Kanyean media to remark "This could get ugly again if the two don't call a truce". However, Jeremiah Brooke and Thea Alvarez would have to work harder, as they'd be starting deep in the field at thirty-second and thirty-sixth, respectively. The two vowed to make things right on race day, brave the track, make an effort to get to the front and hopefully stay there.

Ricky Lee's streak of qualifying for races was snapped at three after Beiyang teammate Gongming Gao edged him for the last non-charter spot. However, with both Gao and team boss Xuan Tou giving him encouragement, Lee didn't feel the need to ditch the team early and instead chose to stay behind to watch the race the next day.

On the Everlong side of things, Pyotr Lavrentiev proved that one does not have to be born in St. Kanye to be able to practice Yeezie magic. He posted his second victory of the season, prevailing over Al Shelton by a nail-biting margin of 0.007 second. An exciting last few laps saw Lav's fellow Ceroat-born Rustam Ilyich Yudin also in the hunt for the win, as well as "Robison" (the "Stacemiah" of the second tier, composed of Robin Dragonovic and Maddison Riley-Jones).

Kai Qiang's weekend had started well, at least on the track. He still wasn't happy about the situation with his sister, but he wasn't thinking about it that much. Racing was a good distraction.

Slow, flat, bumpy tracks were nothing new, even if it was his first time racing in Spartansburg at this particular track. Back home in the Chinese Territories, most of the tracks where IRACT held races were similarly flat -- or worse, some of them had dangerously uneven pavement that could be more treacherous than flat. IRACT was gradually renovating their tracks to make them safer to drive at normal NSSCRA race speeds, but some of them were still pretty rugged.

That experience served the #44 team well as they familiarized themselves with the track and set up the car for the weekend. By the end of practice, Qiang had a good feel for the track and he felt well-prepared for qualifying. He watched some of the other drivers take their turns at qualifying, and then his turn came. Everything went according to plan. He would still have to wait for the last few drivers to run their laps before he knew he had won the pole award -- but he knew he'd turned in a good time. He waved to some fans who were nearby and looked up at the scoring tower with a satisfied smile.

Tsering was 18th fastest in qualifying, and she was disappointed that yet again she'd been so much slower than Qiang even though they drove essentially the same car. "How do you do that?" she signed as they left the track on their way to dinner. "My dad and my teachers always told me I could do anything if I put my mind to it, but I've been putting my mind to it all year and I still can't keep up with you."

Qiang gave her a cuddle and answered: "I've been doing it for 4 years. Maybe you need more time."

"I won a race when I was 19, and now I'm doing so much worse."

"You're doing better than I was when I was your age."

"I didn't have to drop out of school."

Qiang shrugged. "You're still doing better than I was."

At the race the next day, Qiang couldn't hold onto his lead, but things still went reasonably well through the first half.

...And then things went all to hell. A bump with another car bent Qiang's fender and knocked one of his front wheels loose. He limped into the pits where his crew replaced the damaged wheel and sent him back out to finish the race -- but there was no time to fix the more subtle wear and tear on the car and Qiang struggled to climb back up the field. He wound up finishing in 30th place, an unusually bad result that was all the more frustrating after how fast he had been in qualifying.

So now it was Tsering's turn to comfort Qiang when they left the track for the evening. "What happened to you could have happened to anyone," she signed across the dinner table between bites of sushi.

"It's still annoying," Qiang replied, accidentally dropping his chopsticks as he tried to make the hand signs. "Oh, shit," he said -- the only words either of them had spoken out loud since their food arrived.

Tsering snorted with amusement. She still thought it was funny how clumsy Qiang got when he tried to use sign language. The way he moved was usually so graceful, it was weird to see him being a klutz.

Later that night, Qiang called the hospital in Guilin to ask if there was any change in his sister's condition. Yuan's doctor said she was still unconscious, but there had been some positive signs. If someone talked to her and held her hand, she would grip their hand. Sometimes she would even reach toward the sound of their voices before they touched her.

Qiang decided it was worth going home between races for another visit. He wasn't looking forward to the long flights or the jet lag, but he wanted to try talking to Yuan. The hospital room was much the way it had been last week. He sat down by Yuan's bed and started talking to her, asking, "How are you?" and telling her about his trip to Squidroidia.

Yuan shifted on the bed. "Dad?"

"No, I'm your brother," Kai Qiang said, smiling at the sound of his sister's voice. It was a relief to hear her talk, even if she was still very out of it.

"But we're at the hospital," said Yuan. "Aren't we going to see dad?"

The smile disappeared from Kai's face as quickly as it had come. He was rattled to his core. "No, you're in the hospital because you were in a car crash. Dad died..." He paused to do the math and remember how many years it had been. "12 years ago!"

"But we're at the hospital... Didn't we come to visit him?"

"No, that was 12 years ago!"

"But we're at the hospital..."

"We're at the hospital because you were in a car crash."

Yuan blinked and looked at her brother, or looked past him like she still didn't understand who he was or why he was there. She realized now that the man at her bedside wasn't Guan Qiang, but she was still confused.

They talked a little more, and Yuan's doctor tried talking to her too, but it was a difficult conversation. Yuan drifted in and out of consciousness and she had great difficulty understanding even the most basic information. She asked a couple of times how long she had been unconscious or where her dad was, and she repeated the questions even after they were answered the first time.

The doctor took Kai Qiang aside for a private conversation. The doctor thought Yuan's condition would probably continue to improve in the coming weeks, but it was possible that she might have permanent brain damage. "It's not like the movies where someone wakes up from a coma and they're back to normal a minute later. Sometimes people take a while to come out of it," the doctor said.

The next day Qiang came back to the hospital, and a few other people stopped by to try talking to Yuan. Now that Yuan was semi-conscious, the case had piqued Mendok's curiosity and she was eager to stay the whole afternoon asking different questions and trying cognitive tests like holding her hand over the bed and asking Yuan to grasp it. (Yuan still found this difficult.)

It was a weird and stressful week, but Qiang was hopeful about Yuan's recovery.

The Valentians – VRSCR Race 2

OOC: The domestic VRSCR happens roughly a day (or less/more) after the end of each race with the official/actual NSSCRA. The races do not affect the Valentians or other drivers in any way, and are simply my own attempt at a domestic race, albeit a tad unrealistic. ^^

The rest of the drivers and friends (i.e. everyone!) of Valentine Z are free to ICly comment on this televised show. Actual NSSCRA 10 RP to follow-up after this, just that I decided to split this up from the main body/RP.

The Valentians – 1st Tier: FunStar Squidroidia 400, Spartansburg Speedway, Spartansburg, Squidroidia (Speedway); 2nd Tier: Drew's 300, Spartansburg Speedway, Spartansburg, Squidroidia (Speedway)

Image

After the race was over on that day, the Valentians wasted no time in making their way to the next one. There was a bit of a gap and free time in-between, that was for certain. However, as they have looked through the website (on top of getting the flyer conveying the same information), the Valentians realised that they needed to be there by Thursday - a gap day for training, logistics, and anything that they might need to fill in. The first tier would only go on at Saturday, but Valentijn as expected arrived early on a Thursday morning, already making herself at home and lying down on her bed. Both the actual Valentijn (who is 117 meters tall) inside the plane, as well as the smaller body controlled by her for the race, were fast asleep before the rest of the Valentians came in.

"Oh yeah, sorry about that, haha," she said sheepishly as she was greeted by her friends, "Was scoping out the track this entire morning. If you guys want my evaluation, it's not too bad. Oval speedway, nothing too special or noteworthy- Oh the place is nice, I will give it that. I just mean that there is nothing that would trouble you guys here."

"Man, the kart-racing seems fun," Marcus remarked with Jared in agreement, looking at one of the fliers that was given to them, "Too bad it's for kids. Hey, even for adults, I am very sure we will not fit." Jared then went down to the garage, which already has the six Valentian cars ready and available for evaluation. Marcus then followed him, noting, "Well, let's get this checked on early. We could definitely use a big break here!"

As Jenny, Jared, Marcus, Tiffany, Adriana, and Genki (Crew chief for Jamie, now for Jolyn) checked their respective vehicles, they started to do their works. There was little need for huge changes, but they always agree that it's the smaller and subtle changes that win races. The difference between being "just drivable" and "handles optimally."
  • Jenny uploaded all the OS'es and devices on-board Clarissa's #7 with a small update, stating that "This should optimise the data collection and processing a bit more, dumping potentially duplicate data. We will see how this works."
  • Jared tightened the wheel for Anastasia's #15, knowing that she likes to handle her vehicle a little too roughly at times whenever she is excited. The dampener ensured that the fine steerings were preserved, while larger forces are counteracted, like seat-belts.
  • Marcus tore off and replaced the back bumper for Gwen's #31, which was damaged from the previous race as she was rear-ended by someone along the race. "I am not being snarky either. I honestly didn't know who hit me, though I guess I just pretend that it was something temporary."
  • Tiffany did general checks for Valentijn's #10, for her vehicle was still more or less ready to go, and at that moment, felt that there was nothing needed to be done.
  • Adriana did the same as Jared for Holly's #55, knowing that she too could get excited from time to time.
  • Genki simply took the advices from the other five crew chiefs, as well as from Jolyn herself, regarding the #76. Given his first time, and also because of Jolyn's relative lack of activity, the vehicle did not need to be that fine-tuned.

"Yeah, all of this seems set," Jared remarked, with the other crew chiefs listening to him during the debrief, "Just do what you guys do best and nothing will go wrong for the days ahead. For tomorrow, Tiffany and Valentijn will be up. Good luck, you guys!"

"謝謝!" Tiffany replied back with a smile, with Valentijn sitting in the car, trying out the various changes made to it.

The Valentians – Friday

It was afternoon, after lunch. Valentijn had a hearty lunch in her own body, while recharging and giving some food of its own to her smaller body. It was not always the easiest to control two bodies, but the idea of a virtual reality, on top of an augmented reality with freedom of movement within a stasis chamber in the ship, made it all possible. That was perhaps why the Valentian ships were so large - it was not simply to house the large Valentijn and Anastasia, but also to house some essential pieces of technology for them to function well in the races. All that aside, it was time for Valentijn to race once again. She drank a couple of energy drinks for this occasion and started the practice, on top of the qualifications. The hour-long practice was a bit tedious at first, but Valentijn got the hang of it, given her rather energeised state. "Oh man, I can hear colors!" was one of the things that was said in the chatter during the practice. Come 3.30 PM, she was able to roar through the track on her own, netting herself a 1st - a pole position. She was excited and exuberant regarding this news when she walked and looked at the scoreboard, but of course, she remembered the golden rule: Don't get cocky, for the qualifications are not everything.

The Valentians – Saturday

On the previous day and night, Valentijn would return back to her lounge with a wealth of experience she got regarding the track - for the three Valentians, as well as for the two Gardeners. "To be extremely honest, there is nothing much to worry about. It's just an oval track, but you know what they say - "just" an oval track itself can be a danger if you are too cocky, so please try your best, but also not overconfident... No wait, one thing, actually. The banking is kinda low, so you might need to watch out for those. Do not speed too much on the turns, you WILL get screwed."

With that knowledge, the Valentians went for the qualifications - 14th for Clarissa, 3rd for Anastasia, 27th for Gwen, 46th for Holly, and a spectacular 29th for Jolyn. "Ahh, seems like someone is back into action. Congratulations, my friend, I am so happy for you!" Valentijn remarked, along with the rest of the Valentians that once again celebrated for Jolyn making it in. A genuine joy and smiles for their friend, along with Jolyn's students doing a little cheer once they heard of the news from the virtual class.

It would seem like Clarissa and Gwen could not do as well as they hoped for. The banking was not exactly the problem - they followed Valentijn's advice and with their own experiments during the practice, they have more or less ensured that it would not be a big deal. Still, they can't help but feel that they can definitely do better. The two, along with Anastasia, would meet up on the track after the qualifications.

"Well, not the results that we are aiming for, but they will have to do, right?" Clarissa started the conversation, with Gwen nodding in agreement. Anastasia kept it to herself knowing her results, but she too sympathised with her friends.

"It doesn't have to be the end-all, I am sure of it," Gwen noted in turn, "Qualifications do not have to be everything. Besides, we actually did pretty good! That, and we don't have to rely on qualifications anymore. Oh man, I remembered those days when I have to chase for them. Those were... yeah, it was like poor Jolyn over there."

The three of them then bought 6 tickets for Drew 300, in order to see Valentijn at the race. "Yeah, each of us will need 2 seats, all right," Anastasia commented with a chuckle.

...

While the pole position helped tremendously for Valentijn, it was not meant to be for this race. Perhaps it was the low banking that she kept talking about. Maybe there was something that she missed and could not detail it. The lack of bumper drafts might also play a factor, who knows. The way Valentijn saw it, she definitely blew it big time as she was consistently slow for the entire track and stabilising at 21st out of 30+ cars. That was not the results that she was looking for.

"Well, on the other hand, I got a company with me now," Valentijn commented when she was together with the Valentians once again, "You guys know Pyotr Lavrentiev, the winner of today's race? Ahh, it's okay if you don't. So I have been keeping track of the races, and it definitely was the case that he too got his second win. Now there are two of us!"

The Valentians – Sunday

The real deal, the Valentians thought to themselves. With Valentijn taking a break and watching from a distance (she went back into her own body; the view was much nicer when you are at 100+ meters), Clarissa, Anastasia, Gwen, Holly, and Jolyn broke into action. Anastasia was especially excited, gunning for that performance that she was hoping for. It does not even have to be a win; it simply needed to make up for that DNF that she suffered from in the previous race. The points compensation would have been more than enough to satisfy Anastasia, since after all, she already got two gold medals so far in this season. "Win should probably go for Gwen," she thought in her mind, a thought about how her friend is the only one who is without a win in this season so far.

Gwen already had a bad start from her 27th position, falling to 38th as she tried her best. It would be synonymous with what Valentijn was doing - it was not because of the track, or the car - maybe it was herself? What would warrant such a drop in performance? Thinking less about that, and after her first pit stop, Gwen gunned to overtake as many as she cleanly could, eventually striking into the Top 10s and maintaining her position for the rest of the race.

Clarissa would did the same, though she would suffer a semi-fatal error on the 5th segment of the race. Jenny got up from her high chair and started pressing a few buttons on her tablet interface, wondering what went wrong. "A SQL error should not cause a BSOD," Jenny thought to herself, trying to communicate with Clarissa on what happened. It turns out that one of the solid state drives in the car failed, and with it, a small fraction of Clarissa's data. The non-essential race data, but nevertheless, the data that could aid Clarissa. The distraction cost them a little, but Clarissa was able to bounce back to a nice 4th. "Ahh, I could have gotten that 3rd, haha! Ah wells!"

Anastasia, on the other hand, was no hands barred. She weaved and raced around the track, her midnight blue-yellow #15 shining harshly against the afternoon sun. She was feeling the heat, but she was accustomed to such a thing a this point. Perhaps she would be the only driver so far that did not need an air-conditioner blowing on her face, even asking if she could take out the larger AC unit from her car in order to reduce the weight of it. That AC would transfer to its original owner and proposer - Jolyn and her now-#76. With little to no sweat, it was once again time for Anastasia to play with the top drivers. #13, #0, #7, #40, #05 - all of them a little close and tight, with Clarissa smiling and giving a wave at Anastasia as she went past her. "Good luck out there, Annie!"

It would be close, it would be sensational, and it would be... a clear win once again, she thought to herself. With a larger speed advantage and sailing from slipstreaming behind Clarissa, Anastasia was able to get past the #0 with relative ease. #13, on the other hand, proved to be a rather tedious one. Slamming down on the gas pedal as hard as she can, Anastasia only had the finish line on her mind, while paying little attention to the cars around her; they were around, just not "Oh my goodness I am going to crash onto them by accident" around. No DNFs, no dirty tricks, just pure Valkyrie energy.

And just like that, she thought. "#15... Anastasia!" What is this now? First win? Second? No, third. Third gold medal in a row. Perhaps the only driver with three wins as of now. Anastasia was not the one to be cocky, and she certainly isn't going to be. However, one would wonder how she was beating her two friends - one being a state-of-the-art computer that can determine the best route in just a couple of nanoseconds, the other being a Queen of Fate, Space, and Time (though of course, Gwen did not use her powers to cheat; perhaps simply trying her best to avoid horrible accidents). As she checked her watch, she had 12 hours left before she went back to her normal size. "And who says magic girls can't drive?" was the thought that came into her mind once again, as she climbed out of the car and once again surrounded by the press and fans alike. Autographs to sign, pictures to take, poses, and a rather bitter and hot champagne which she wondered if she should pass them to Eva and Hana as well. Would it be seen as a genuinely good intent? Or a rub-in-the-face scenario? She simply went with it, taking a few sips and posing for the cameras, then putting the large bottle back on the podium.

As Valentijn transferred back to her smaller body, she went for a rather long run along the more natural areas of Spartansburg, wherever she could find. It has always been a Valentian tradition to visit another country's parks and nature reserves to take a few photos, followed by hiking and jogging along these trails. She was more than happy with the news of her team today. She might not make it so well with her 21st finish, but her friends and her wife certainly did great, and she was already happy with that. Even Holly and Jolyn managed to finish with a beautiful teamwork of 20th and 21st. "Such a beautiful sight, isn't it?" Valentijn thought to herself, as she then took out her phone, took a few shots, and then went back to the Valentian lounge for a celebration.

"This has been perhaps the best day ever."

Green Flag in Kohnhead City: A preview of the track and weekend information

Kohnhead City and the entire nation of Kohnhead would like to invite some of the best Stock Car racers in the World to the Kohnhead City Speedway. It will not only be the Contender's Series race known as The Kohnhead Cruises 400 on Saturday but recently Kohnhead learned that the Speedway had also won the rights to the Main Series race on the same weekend which RZDM Energy were quick to snap up the rights to.

The track was finally finished 17 years ago as a state run project with the hopes of increasing popularity of stock car racing in the country. While it only had seating for around 7500 at the time of construction exhibition races, demolition derbys, and more turned some decent profits. Some like Dexter Warner and Tim Lateman grew up with races on this track while others like Tyler Butler didn't get into it until much later. Over the almost a score that it's been around expansion has been undertaken and with the new that it would become a part of the NSSCRA construction quickly was undertaken to take the capacity up to 40,000 and it is expected to easily sell out.

Kohnhead City is by far the largest city in Kohnhead but the speedway itself is situated just outside of the city and its suburbs and not in sportstown (the nickname for the massive area of many major arenas and stadiums). It is in reality over 45 minutes from the city and closer to the rural lands that surround the city to the West.

That track itself is a smaller 1 mile oval with as mentioned before a capacity that can expand up to 40,000 for this race and is expected to sell out although we are unsure if this will be the case for the Contender's Series as well. The Contender's Series will run 400 laps and the Main Series will run 500 laps around the oval which is known for its high banking especially on the turns and crashes. The crashes are not normally full field crashes but take out a couple of drivers at a time not always causing DNFs but leaving a good portion of the cars beat up and with damage. The lap record is 22.457 but given the talent here that record could be broken (although it is quite unofficial and could be a few seconds faster than the time actually run). Warner swears he's run a sub 20 but no one actually takes that claim seriously as he's Dexter Warner and is prone to exaggerations.

The weekend itself will be a simple three race day weekend that sees the first practice sessions for both races occurring on Friday morning and then practice for The Kohnhead Cruises 400 commencing in the afternoon. Saturday morning will give the Main Series racers another chance to test out the track and then they will start qualifying in the early afternoon. Qualifying is expected to draw a heavy audience and we are expecting most of those people to wait it out for when after The Kohnhead Cruises 400 kicks off in Kohnhead City. It will be the first ever international and NSSCRA race in Kohnhead ever and should be a blast.

An expensive dinner in Kohnhead City's fancy Casa Bar will be open to owners and will see some of Kohnhead's elite be there and it is known as a top 1% event. Rumors say that the Supreme Leader (although he has limited power) may be there as he will certainly be in attendance at the main race.

That Saturday night festivites at the track will be starting approximately at 7:30 PM with The Gemstones music group to perform throughout the evening. While all alcohol and drugs have been banned for the evening officers have been told to turn a blind eye to anything that goes on at the trackside area as long as the event organizers clean it up for the start of the next morning's final practice. All racers are encouraged to attend but must be warned that if they overdo it too much any violence, or damage done to the property will be met with punishments. The unofficial memo is that if you don't want the hard stuff leave at 10 PM because that's when the party really starts.

Sunday as mentioned before will have a final practice session in the morning and at 1:30 PM local time the RZDM Energy 500 will kick off for the first time in front of what is expected to be a sellout crowd.

The nation's major airport resides in Kohnhead City so you should have no problems getting here and we have partnered with some local hotels to give special service to and from all track events as well as providing meals and transportation to and from the airport and to and from the speedway. There are also many activities to do in Kohnhead City that you will be given more information about in your travel packages if you so choose and depending on what you purchase you could get tickets to the Kohnhead City FC match that takes place earlier in the day.

Kohnhead again is so excited to have been given this opportunity and good luck to all racers but especially Butler, Warner, and Lateman.

Shortly after the FunStar Squidroidia 400

The GFR trio's performance in the FunStar race was anything but fun, and the less said about it, the better. Outside polesitter Sage Caldwell could only settle for fifteenth, Thea Alvarez one spot behind him, while Jeremiah Brooke somehow drove a damaged car to twenty-ninth place. No, Taylor Henderson wasn't targeting Yeezies this time - Brooke just blew a tire, lost control, got hit by another car and slammed the wall.

Image

Despite the bad result, Brooke found time to thank his crew for making an effort to get him back into the race and eventually finish it. "Hoping to bounce back in Kohnhead," he said during the Yeezies' post-race press conference. "The regular season is ending soon, but we can't get caught slacking, especially not myself, what with me already earning a playoff berth."

Valentian Anastasia Aye rolled off to her third win of the season, opening the door for a second driver to enter the Chase on points. "I suppose it's gonna be win or go home for me now, then, considering all the people above me in the standings," Caldwell told the reporters. Alvarez praised Aye, saying "I am impressed with how much she'd grown, no pun intended, since last season. Zero wins, no Chase. But now, three of the last seven. She and the rest of the Valentian stable are in their element right now, and it's kinda making the rest of us look bad. Of course, we can't have that. Gotta step up the effort ourselves."

GFR's plan to to get Pyotr Lavrentiev the open charter for next week was also brought up. Lav's win in the Everlong series, his second of the season, proved to be the sole highlight of GFR's race weekend, and the team bosses were impressed enough that they felt it would be interesting to see how he'd stack up against the main series drivers. "Hope it happens," said Lav. "I'm always up for a new challenge."

The race in Spartansburg hadn't been very remarkable for Hengxing Tian. He'd been midpack most of the day, and finished 26th.

When he decided he would go home and spend a few days at the family beach house in Beidaihe, he was not looking for dating advice, but his family insisted on giving it anyway. His father wanted to know if he was really into Taylor Henderson.

"Dad, she obviously needs to get laid," said Tian.

"When you have money the way our family has money, you need to be careful with women," Lei Tian said. "I know Hendo doesn't act like a gold-digger, but it's possible she just never thought she had a chance.
Things could change once she finds out you're interested."

In a separate conversation later that afternoon, Tian's sister said he shouldn't flirt with Hendo. "You've always said you want a traditional Chinese housewife," Liwei Tian said. "If that's what you want, you should find a woman who's already like that. Don't grab a Hapiloppian and try to turn her into something she's not. If you want a dog, you buy a dog. You don't buy a cat and try to train it like a dog."

What really bothered Hengxing Tian about both conversations was his family seemed to think he was out of his depth. He resented it and he felt like he had something to prove now.

Meanwhile, there were rumors that Beiyang was beginning the scouting process to recruit one or more drivers for NSSCRA 11. That presumably meant one or more of their current drivers was going to be out of a ride. Hengxing Tian thought if they kept anyone, it would be him -- but they might not keep anyone from the current stable.

Tian, Lee, and Gao all had their own fans in North China, but none of them were big stars. If you polled a bunch of North Chinese racing fans asking who their favorite driver was, you would get a lot of different answers and no clear favorite. Beiyang was slowly building up a fanbase, but a lot of people still rooted for Pharaki drivers or just picked any driver they thought was cute.

This blog was written by Derrick Carlisle, Jaguar Racing's Social Media Manager

The FunStar Squidroidia 400 was finally here at Spartansburg Speedway. Squidroidia's time in the spotlight was about to reach its defining moment and with one driver in 10th and another in 13th, Jaguar Racing was looking to make the most of it all on this bumpy oval.

Let's begin with the guy in 10th with Alfonso Mercado (@AM64). This race would be all about recovery and falling as he fell to 37th at the start, climbed up to 11th at around the midpoint and then slowly fell to 32nd around the end. Nothing flashy and not enough for a good point haul, but he kept his position in the standings and showed some magic in some instances. That's all I can ask for from #64.

As for the guy in 13th, Michael Stefan (@Stefan07) would have a bit of an interesting one. He started well with a climb up to 2nd, before he fell to 38th at one point and then rose once again to finish in 27th. In Mercado was fall-rise-fall, Stefan was rise-fall-rise. It means that he is outside of the top 16 again but not by much and with a few races left, there is plenty of time to change that fact.

In a chaotic race that saw only 5 retirements, Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye took her 3rd race win of the season over Brigadegeneral Eva Kerman and Hana Bhe. She certainly is a top contender in the Chase this year despite her 6th spot in the standings, with Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha now in the lead by a single point. Shigeru Ishikawa finished 6th in his homeland, Micheal Rush did very well in 6th and Daryl Mizushima ended up 36th in the #63.

We are so close to the endgame now that I can nearly taste it. It tastes of...glory? Next up is race 13, unlucky for some, in Kohnhead of all nations. The Kohnhead Cruises 400 in Contenders and the RZDM Energy 500 in the main series. The Chase is nearly upon us now. Drink it all in while you can.

Current Standings: (T1) #07 - 17th (347pts/1W)/#64 - 31st (108pts)/(T2) #03 - 6th (322pts/1W)
Next T1 Race: RZDM Energy 500, Kohnhead City Speedway, Kohnhead City, Kohnhead
Next T2 Race: The Kohnhead Cruises 400, Kohnhead City Speedway, Kohnhead City, Kohnhead
(Updated on Sundays to avoid confusion)

A date was set out through texts and that night finally arrived. The scene was the team's usual meeting room but at peculiar time of 1:30 am local. Who would stay up that late on a Sunday night, after a tiring race day in Spartansburg? Well, that would be Alfonso Mercado and Michael Stefan. Once again, it was #64 who proposed this meeting through the many nights, but this one had a hint of drama in the air. This would be the first "alone time" between the two since Jungle Fever 2 and all that happened at the SEC. Stefan left that night in a great mood and continued on his way as normal until he got the texts from his teammate of this late-night meeting. Alfonso had a lot of time to think about it all but he confident that the events of this evening would make the weird thoughts and even stranger dreams of the last few weeks all worth it.

They snuck into the room like thieves, despite the fact they weren't looking for anything that night. Instead, they sat on one of the sofas and, as quietly as they could, began to speak what had to be spoken.

MS: Good Morning, Good Evening and Good Night!
AM: Hahaha! Hello there...
MS: Are you OK?
AM: Yeah, Yeah...Not the best race for both of us wasn't it?
MS: No...Not really. But we can certainly improve.
AM: Indeed.....indeed
MS: Are you sure you're OK?
AM: Yeah...yeah...

Clearly, he wasn't. Stefan must've clearly noticed that. Clearly, he noticed a lot more than what Mercado was expecting.

MS: I know...what this is all about...
AM: You...do?
MS: Yes....I will admit...I may have been a bit...quick on the draw...
AM: I mean...yeah...I was preparing an entire thing to say to you that night but...I guess you caught on and...decided to act...
MS: It was...something like that, I suppose...
AM: Look at us now. I was scared shitless to talk to you about this sort of thing but here we are...talking about this...this...
MS: Interest?
AM: Yeah...I guess...
MS: Look...I'm sorry I...ruined your big moment...
AM: Ruined? No, No! What about that night did you ruin? You didn't ruin anything at all, Micky...in fact, you made things easier.
MS: Oh...Yeah...
AM: Because I wanted to say how much I've wanted to be with you ever since we made up that arrangement. I wanted to let you know I wanted to be with you for a long time and I wanted to move on the next level in this...thing, but...you already answered the questions before they were asked. I want to be with you...I really do...
MS: Well, I...didn't really expect to do what I did that night either...I've had a lot of time to think since we made that call and...I guess I realised how much you mean to me...You've always been there, even since this team got going and...I can't imagine anyone else by my side...I...meant everything I said and...did that night and...yeah...
AM: Well, I understand...and I...love you. Can I...be like that? Can I...do what...you did to me?
MS: I guess there is no other way.

And so it was. #64 grabbed the head of #07 and did what the other did that night. But this one was different, one of understanding and not of shock. In TJUN-ia, it was one heart opening to the other, but here in Squidroidia, both hearts became one and the same. They would sneak back to bed with cheeks red and hearts set. They were now one...but soon, everyone will need to know.

As the checkered flag was flown to signal the end of the inaugural FunStar Squidroidia 400 NSSCRA Main (Cup) Series race at Spartansburg, the crowd assembled at the track had gotten themselves as loud as they could be. After Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye grabbed the flag for her third win of the season, the eyes turned over to the battle for 5th, where 2 rookies were gunning for their first top 5. Micheal Rush from Sword Island brought his Stevens machine through the bumpy surface, but had to pass one more driver in the form of local hero Shigeru Ishikawa. Both cars slung through turn 4, Kerman, Bhe and Alanis Star Samantha all crossing the line, but Rush couldn't pull off the pass for 5th place. Shiggy was getting his first Top 5 in his career.

Once the fanfare subsided and the #40 team made their trip to Kohnhead City (As well as letting the #63 car driven by an unimpressive but still race sharpening Daryl Mizushima back into Inklingcraft's posession), Shigeru knew that the team had plenty more to do. The regular season was wrapping up and Jalton was getting ever so closer for the team. Chase spots were being emptied left right and center, and pretty soon the #40 wouldn't have the chance to make the big show and chase the #00 for Rookie of the Year honors in the Chase.

Of course, there is little to do when you're an outsider chasing glory other than see how things are going out. As the team rocked up to Kohnhead City Speedway with the #40 speedway car that had just came out of finishing 5th at Inklingcraft's home track, it was clear that the car needed some fine-tuning. Kohnhead City was smooth, not as bumpy and rough at Spartansburg, and the 1 mile oval meant that Shiggy would have to do a lot of corrections compared to back home if he wanted to do something like he did last week. The mechanics would be spending the weekend making sure the #40 car was tuned enough to at the very least get a decent laptime together in qualifying on Saturday.

Of course, Shiggy wasn't going to do as good as he did during the FunStar Squidroidia 400, mainly due to the home advantage he had for that weekend. Like all the other tracks he visited, Kohnhead City was entirely new, and not like what he was used to in the bumpy Spartansburg Speedway. It's mainly why he did so well there in the first place - The entire nation was on his side and cheered him on, now he had to race in front of a crowd that would chant Tyler Butler's name at the race. Tyler, of course, DNFd at Spartansburg.

At the very least the FunStar Squidroidia 400 was a success for ISR and the #40 team that had the FunStar colors. The team, from the pit crew to the driver, had a lot of potential leading up to the race, and to some they looked like they would win their home race and book a spot in the Chase. They didn't do that, but who could complain about 7th in qualifying and a Top 5 come race day? The team showed their potential that Sunday and were going to need all the momentum they could to improve on that result back home. They needed a win to make the Chase too - Shiggy was 111 points behind Taylor Henderson, who held the final spot as things stood after Spartansburg, so a path to the Chase via points was all but impossible apart from some lucky DNFs and a consistent outfit. They essentially had 4 shots to win a race - Here at Kohnhead City, the Cocoabo Forest, Stafford City and the regular season finale at Jalton. Fail to grab the checkered flag? Fiona Sunarya would walk away with Rookie of the Year honors via her win at the TJUN 600. It was the home stretch, and a Chase berth was on the table.

Engines are going to burn.

Finally, finally, after nearly a full year of chaos and uncertainty, Ceroat was one step closer to being able to recover and get back on its feet.

It had been a tough fight just to even get to this point, there was no doubt about that. Ceroatian blood had been spilled, sometimes at the hands of other Ceroatians. On this day, Ceroatians had once again fought against other Ceroatians, but now instead of guerrilla tactics this fight had been an actual pitched battle for control of Cyril Bigelow Airport, the airfield that had been used by the former colonel-turned-warlord Edwin Chudovsky. The Movement for a United Ceroat, with the assistance of the Pridnestrovian Armed Forces, had finally announced its existence to the rest of the warring factions in Ceroat by capturing Bigelow Airport. All the other warlords now had a threat greater than each other on their radar.

The only thing about this battle that Rachel Kirilenko regretted was the fact that they weren't able to capture Chudovsky at the airport. The Movement's new Pridnestrovian friends had reported that they had seen a number of vehicles escaping from the airport just before the Movement, with the assistance of the 50th Motor Rifle Regiment of the Pridnestrovian Army, had moved in on the terminal building where Chudovsky had set up his headquarters. It was very likely that Chudovsky had escaped from the airport in that convoy but they had decided not to deal with it because they had bigger concerns at the moment. So Edwin Chudovsky was still out there somewhere, but the good thing now was that he wouldn't have the means to continue his reign of terror. Still, Rachel would have loved it if they had captured Chudovsky. That would truly prove to the rest of the warlords that the Movement for a United Ceroat was here to stay.

In any case, they had captured Chudovsky's second in hand William Andrews. Andrews had been named as the commanding general of Chudovsky's forces at the airport, and he now bore various cuts and bruises from the militiamen beating him up after he had been captured along with the last remnants of his forces. Andrews was now being stood against a wall with his hands tied behind his back and a rag blindfolding him. The coming execution had been intended for Chudovsky himself, but because he had managed to escape Andrews had been the natural choice for this. The militiamen fighting for the Movement demanded blood, and this was how they were going to get it.

A member of the Movement read out the charges against William Andrews, ranging from destruction of property to "assisting in the destruction of the Ceroatian state". Then the "judge" walked away as five militiamen stepped up. These men were armed with AK-103 rifles, the modernized version of the Kalashnikov and the standard-issue rifle of the Ceroatian Army. All five rifles already had one round in the chamber.

"Ready"!" a militia officer called out, and the firing squad set their rifles from safe to single shot. "Aim!" The firing squad put their rifles to their shoulders and looked down the sights to the blindfolded William Andrews. "Fire!"

"Thinking about something?" Eduard Vladislavovich Lambert, Rachel's second-in-command, asked her even as their fellow militiamen celebrated their victory over Chudovsky's forces.

"I don't know what to feel, Eddie," Rachel admitted. "On the one hand, I'm more than happy that we finally took Chudovsky off the board, but on the other hand he's just one warlord out of the dozens that are still marauding and wreaking havoc throughout the country."

"Maybe not so much dozens as just a dozen by the time the day is over," Eddie said. "I've heard rumors that some of the smaller warlords to the north have already decided to surrender to us rather than fight."

"But then what about those warlords who would rather go down fighting than wave the white flag?" Rachel asked back. "We already saw how much these warlords will cling to their power even despite the odds against them. They don't care how many people die just so they can hold on to their power, their territories."

"Nobody ever said that retaking our country was going to be an easy task," Eddie mused. "Besides, we all knew what we signed up for when we joined the Movement. Are you beginning to have second thoughts about the Movement now?"

"No, not second thoughts, Eddie," Rachel said. "I'm just concerned about myself. I want to see order restored to Ceroat, just like everyone else in the Movement. I just don't know if I will be able to live to see the day."

"Ah, so that's what you've been thinking about, huh?" Eddie nodded sympathetically as he sat down beside Rachel.

"Have you ever thought about dying, Eddie? Not making it to the end of this fight?" Rachel asked.

"Me? I try not to think too much or too hard about it myself," Eddie shrugged. "I find that it makes me stop and think about it for too long. I always thought that it's best not to think about death at all, especially in the kind of business we're doing right now."

"Oh, I wish it were that easy," Rachel muttered. "I wish I could just not think about it, as you said."

"I didn't say it was easy," Eddie said as he stood up. "Come on then, Captain! No rest for the weary. We still have a couple more towns to clear."

SINCS VAULT: The 2006 Season was dominated by just two drivers

Every once in a while in motorsports there is a season where two of the best to ever do it push each other to new heights. Whether it be the early 90’s rivalry of Charles Hawking versus the world( seriously there is a ton of content to be had there) or the recent rivalry between Chris Gordon and Ryan Pearson, who will ironically have to share a garage for 36 weeks of the year next season, SINCS had lived and died with rivalries over the years, In fact, there is a compelling case that the rivalries themselves are more compelling than the on-track product in the mind of a casual fan, but I digress. In 2006 we finally answered the question that had been lingering in the minds of SINCS fans for years: what kind of dominance can be achieved by 2 generational drivers at the peak of their powers? Well, try 27 wins. In a season. By 2 drivers.

Just to put in context how ludicrous 27 wins by these two was, that it is a record for most wins by any two drivers in a season by 6 wins. Even the Big 3 of 2017 only netted a total of 26 wins. This was entirely out of left field. For two drivers to dominate like this, to go beyond the imaginable and into the realms of the impossible, something had to either go terribly wrong or terribly right.

Well to start with both drivers in this wholesale slaughter of the record books were already championship-caliber drivers. Irwin had won 2 championships in 4 years up to this point and Rush had been a title contender since he had gotten to the Premier series. But what makes this kind of production all the more surprising is that these two guys were not known for dominance. Irwin up to this point had only put together 4+ wins in a season twice and Rush had been all over the place, but he too had only netted 4+ wins once and that was his 2004 campaign. But what sparked this sudden rise in production for these two teams? Well for the #21 team, it was obvious.

Joseph Reed had signed on to be the crew chief for the #21 team in '06 after Larry Richards took a job in the booth. He was a brash young guy from Adelaide who had been putting some good seasons together with Rodgers Motorsports' young talent in the National series and was obviously the next guy in line to get promoted to the big leagues. And this was perfect for Irwin. He had a reputation for being even-keeled but I am convinced that was only true because his crew chief was Larry Richards. It was said that when Richard Irwin first met Reed in the winter of 2005, the two then and there decided to raise hell and win a championship. And raise hell they did. But before we get to that, we have to look at what changed for Micheal Rush.

Rush up to this point was chaotic, in how he raced and by extension how he would finish in points. Up to this point, he had chalked up 11 wins and not a single points finish above 5th in his 3-year career. That is simply unheard. In 2003 a freak accident sidelined him for the last 5 weeks of the Chase and dashed his championship hopes. In 2004 he had 6 wins but an average finish of 14.2 due to being wildly inconsistent. And in 2005 he had barely scraped his way into the Chase by winning twice in the regular season and he predictably fell apart in the last 5 races after taking the points lead with a win in the Chase. So for 2006, a change had to be made. And that change was his new teammate-turned mentor, Charles Hawking.

If a bit of chaos was what Richard Irwin needed then Micheal Rush needed a boatload of consistency and Charles Hawking delivered just that. Being one of the most consistent drivers of all time and a 7-time champion, Hawking was the guiding presence behind Rush's 2006 campaign. Rush would later say that sharing a garage with one of the best to ever do it matured him. And it showed as the #05 car didn't DNF during 2006 after 14 DNF's in the last 3 years.

The first 10 races of the season were relatively quiet. Sure both Rush and Irwin had already chalked up 2 wins apiece but neither had done so in dominating fashion. Irwin's two wins were fuel mileage runs and Rush's two were last lap battles to the line. So when is this destruction of the record books supposed to start? I mean these guys have only 26 races left and need to win 23 of them. Wait, does that mean what I think it does?

THE NEXT 26 RACES

RUSH: 13 WINS, 20 TOP 5's, 23 TOP 10's
IRWIN: 10 WINS, 19 TOP 5's, 21 TOP 10's
EVERYBODY ELSE: 3 TOTAL WINS

For the last 26 weeks of the 2006 season, Micheal Rush and Richard Irwin were in a different dimension than everybody else. These are video game numbers, stuff you do when the difficulty is down to the lowest possible setting. For the last 26 races of the season, you had about coin-flip odds of picking who was going to win. Micheal Rush alone had a win percentage of 50 percent and factoring in Irwin's 10 wins that jumps up to a simply unreal 88 percent win percentage. When these guys fired up their engines for the last 26 races of 2006, there was an about 90 percent chance that one of them would end up in victory lane. This dominance started when Rush rattled off 3 straight wins, with Irwin finishing second twice. Not to be outdone, Irwin won 4 straight and put himself in the points lead with 8 races to go until the Chase. The reign of terror finally came to a halt when a driver not named Irwin or Rush won for 3 weeks straight. It would be the only 3 victories for any driver not in the #05 or #21 cars for the last 26 races of the season. With that, and 3 more wins from Rush and a pair of wins for Irwin, the Chase began. From there the two of them would finish worse than 20th once and combine for only 3 finishes outside the top 10. Rush would go on an absolute tear, winning the first 4 races of Chase. Irwin would win twice before Rush won at Fredericksburgh. The #21 car found its way to victory lane the next 2 weeks before Rush capped off the season with a win at Perth to take the title. And so the most dominant season by any two drivers in the history of motorsports came to a fitting end, with Rush hoisting the trophy and Irwin spraying champagne in 2nd.

So there you have it, two drivers, polar opposites, combining for the best title fight ever in my opinion. Even now this season lives in the minds of SINCS fans. Because for 36 weeks, two ordinary men ascended beyond the realms of the believable and beyond the glass ceiling. Into the record books.

Chris Gordon was in a must-win situation. He sat 14th in the points with 3 races left until the Chase. Not a comfortable spot to be in, especially with him sitting on the bubble as 15th and 16th placed drivers Edmund Flanders and Tucker Capps had already locked themselves into the playoffs. Gordon needed to get his shit together or he would miss the playoffs after starting off so well. What was it about the start of the season that made them such a dynamo? Maybe it was the hunger that fueled them. Maybe it was the added motivation of having to prove who was the top dog at Stevens. Whatever it was, the solution was clear: he had to find his rival. Someone to push him to be better than he had been in weeks, somebody to beat to the line, ...somebody like Lexie Shelby.

Robin was being a big mess. Reality seemed to just happen to him, he didn’t feel like having any control at all. He was confused all the time, and barely able to hold together; and he did not realize the important things around him. Maddy sent him a second letter since they last spoke; once again being very nice to him. She called him “Robby” at the end. Robin did not even notice, and even if he had, he probably wouldn’t have thought much of it. Jeremiah Brooke, a top tier racer from Saint Kanye, had auctioned his helmet, intending to gift the profits for, partially, the medical bills for Robin’s mother. There would not be any, and Robin attempted to decline, instead suggesting to donate the money to charity instead.
(OOC: Robin’s family is well off; they don't need additional money; they appreciate the gesture and the help, but they aren't really comfortable taking it, in their perception, away from charity. If you want to develop this plot point more, drop me a TG :) )
He barely even recognized the amount of money at stake, nor the amazing gesture made by a man he hadn’t ever really met. He did not, or did not try to, understand. Throughout this time, he was anxiously awaiting the call he hoped would come. His dad had promised to call him instantly in case of news, and with every day without anything, Robin feared the unthinkable more. He was not ready for that.
Weirdly enough, the events off of the track seemed to help him on the track. He finished fifth in Squidroidia, one of the best performances of his season, and he was in the running for third for a while. Still, he felt and seemed disconnected from reality.
When his phone rang with the special ringtone he set up, he snapped back into reality. He picked up the phone. “Robin, you’ve got to come home immediately.”

(OOC NOTE: The move is back on. I will be moving to another state on Saturday, so I might not be that available this weekend. I'm going to try to get as much in about the coming Super Skychief 500 over the course of the next few days, but I can't guarantee anything.)
Drake Stevenson’s house, Hapilopper City
The day before leaving for Kohnhead
It had been a quiet day for Drake Stevenson, a day before departing for Kohnhead City for the upcoming NSSCRA race. He had done some errands – gotten his oil changed in his car, reorganized his living room, mailed invitations for his upcoming party on Lake Eclipse, gone to the store and gotten some groceries for the coming week, and now he was sitting in his back porch, drinking a cheap beer and smoking a cigarette. In spite of the fact that Team Blue paid him very well as one of their three NSSCRA drivers, Drake still liked the same cheap shit he could get 30 at a time for $14, like he did when he was driving those dirt late models across Hapilopper, and when he had just moved into his apartment in Hapilopper City.

He wasn’t planning on doing a whole lot for the rest of the evening – maybe drink a few brewskis, watch some pro wrestling and then hit the sack as he got ready to head out to Kohnhead for another NSSCRA race. Another race where he probably wasn’t going to figure in the results. To tell the truth, Drake was starting to think of a life past racing. He was getting sick and tired of running midpack every single week and was hoping that somehow or another, something would change soon.

That’s when he heard a knock at his door. Not wanting to smoke a cigarette in his house, Drake rested his cigarette on an ashtray and went to the door. It was Taylor Henderson, who appeared to be bothered by something.

“Hendo?” Drake asked. “You good?”

“No, Drake, I’m not good. I’m worried. Can I come in?” Taylor asked.

“Sure,” Drake said. “I’ve had a few to drink tonight, so I’m not driving anywhere, but I can order some food to be delivered here. Get yourself a beer and make yourself at home. My home is your home.”

Taylor walked into the house, went to the kitchen and grabbed a cold beer from the fridge, before seeing it was a can of Snap’s Gold Star, Drake’s beer of choice. He had already gone through a couple of 12-packs of Blood Moon given to him by the company following the Henderson/Caldwell incident, but as a matter of personal preference, kept Snap’s in his fridge instead. Nothing against Blood Moon, though.

“Stevenson, do you have anything a little better than Snap’s?” Taylor asked.

Drake walked into the kitchen, having grabbed a menu from a nearby takeout place, and shook his head.

“You don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to,” Drake said. “I’m not making you drink that, I was just offering.”

Taylor chuckled and grabbed a can anyway. “It’s free, so what the hell,” she said.

“That’s the spirit,” Drake chuckled. “This place is offering a special on its steak and fried rice bowls, want one?”

“Sure.”

“So, what is it you wanted to talk about?”

“Last week or so, you were talking about behavior,” Taylor said. “And since then, and even when we were in Sword Island, I thought about what you said. Do you really think I could lose my seat over my behavior? Do you think I could be fired for something I do?”

“Chris Holmes did,” Drake said.

“But Holmes wasn’t doing that great on the track,” Taylor interrupted.

“Not really that relevant,” Drake responded. “The fact of the matter was, he had become a liability within the team. He’s tearing stuff up, becoming an embarrassment to everyone around him, there’s something in our contracts that states that if need be, Team Blue can fire us for reasons related to behavior. But the contract also states that we have to be warned first. Have you been talked to by Amanda or anyone at the team?”

“Not yet,” Taylor said. “But she said she’d talk to me after we got back from Kohnhead. I just worry that I’m going to get let go, and frankly, I don’t know what’ll happen if I lose my seat.”

“You improve yourself first,” Drake responded. “You go up to the rest of the field in the pre-race driver’s meeting, acknowledge that you’ve messed up and ask for a second chance. But let me ask you this, Hendo, do you feel like you’re in the wrong?”

“Kind of,” Taylor replied. “I feel like I’m in danger of losing something I’ve worked my whole life for, and I don’t know what I’ll be able to do if I lose it.”

“Then you change what’s gotten you in trouble,” Drake said. “I don’t want you to lose it either, Hendo. But if you don’t improve your behavior on the track, people are gonna start gunning for you. People are going to want to take you out, and quite frankly, that would probably make you as much of a liability as Chris Holmes doing whatever he did, if not worse.”

“I get what you’re saying, Drake, but do you think I could?”

“Absolutely you can,” Drake said. “But my suggestion to you is go in front of the rest of the field at the driver’s meeting on race day and explain to them you realize you’ve probably gone a little too far, and you realize you’ve probably lost the respect of your fellow drivers, but you’re going to try to more patient out there and just ask for another chance.”

“You think I’ve lost the respect of the guys?” Taylor seemed a bit hurt at the idea.

Drake looked at Taylor right in the eye and told her that he thought so.

“My fear is, if you keep driving the way you do, people are gonna gun for you, Hendo,” Drake said. “You need to back it down.”
