GUARD DUTY - Post MD1

Postby Gyatso-kai » Fri Nov 06, 2020 7:38 pm

.:: Jasmine Flower Conference Room, The Republican Hotel, Zhaoyang District, Republic City, Gyatso-kai ::.
1120 hours local time, 6 November 2020.2

The 260 square metre conference room on the second floor of the North Wing at the illustrious Republican Hotel was filled with tables and chairs and breakfast sets; soon, the Bisons would return from their practice and sit down for breakfast and debriefing. The men 30 men would filter in, grab their plates, fill them with food, and then sit down. Once everyone had gathered their food and returned to their seats, a brief moment of silence would be undertaken by the more-religious members of the team before everyone would begin eating. While they were eating, Head Coach Kad’e Tay’haai would go over details from practice, and he would begin going over the next opponent’s strategies and lines.

All the while… The security team would be watching.

”Time for the most exciting part of me day… Watching everyone else eat.” CT-2401 muttered as he looked around the hall.

”Oh yes… looks like Hisakawa is having his usual triple steak breakfast,” CT-2234 laughed over the secure comline as he looked around the room. Avatarian Guards, like most Grand Army of the Republic units, shared a direct comline between units through their helmets. Inaudible to those outside, the units would often use the line to convey movements and strategy. However, when deployed for security detail, it was often used for banter and speaking between actions.

”Gentlemen,” spoke RC-4321 – Countdown, the second-in-command – as he turned his head to scan the room. ”We will have breakfast soon enough.”

“Not soon enough,”
laughed CT-2234. A sergeant, and the third-in-command, Teef as he was called, ”I am starving.”

“How can you be so hungry, Teef?”
Countdown spoke. ”We ate last night.”

“You ate, I was on third watch and when I finished, the kitchen here was closed.”
Teef laughed as he shifted his weight.

“Man, third shift,” mused CT-2401 – Teefone – as he looked towerds Teef. ”I don’t miss that role.”

“Oh don’t worry, Teefone,”
chimed in Akaan – Designation RC-4868 – with a bit of a smile you could almost hear through the comline. ”I’ll be sure to put you on it next rotation.”

The rest of the men all laughed, as the players began to eat. Head Coach Tay’haai stood at the front of the room and began to speak. The security guards all nodded to each other, before turning back to their usual conversation topic of the morning briefing.

The game prior…

”I cannot believe we drew Qasden,” Teef was the first to speak. “I honestly thought we were going to lose.”

“Oh?”
questioned RC-4555 – Tact, as he was known – as he adjusted his much heavier armor while standing at the door way. ”Why is that?”

“Well, last we saw them in Eh-Oh-Fifty-Nine, they quite literally crushed us.”
, Teef sighed. ”6-2 in the third-to-last game.”

“Oh yeah, I remember that game,”
Teefone grimaced. ”Basically sent us home with red cheeks.”

“And the rest of that tournament went so well. Silenced by Equestria with a pair, and then a 1-goal win over Sio-whatever.”

“Siovanija and Tuesland, Teef,”
Akaan corrected his subordinate. ”That isn’t even a hard one to remember.”

“Remember in World Cup Eighty-Five? The Remnant one…”

“Squornshelan Remnant States,”
Akaan smiled. ”Again, not that hard to remember.”

“And that is why you are the Captain,”
Teefone laughed. ”Only you get paid enough to remember all those names.”

The other soldiers all laughed, and Akaan remained his usual stoic self. ”Back to yesterday,” Akaan chimed, wanting to return the conversation to the topic at hand. ”At least Skirata and Yu scored, and we had the lead for a bit.”

“Good to have the lead,”
Teef muttered. ”Even better to hold it.”

“But Qasden is Top-25 in our region, you cannot expect them to lose easily.”

‘ “An opponent who loses without a fight, never had honor to begin with.’ “
CT-45-9934, the oldest member of the guard spoke. His name, Dabuir, was a Mandalorian word for “Never a Father”; a moniker that referenced how at nearly 48 years of chronological age, he was not married and swore back when he was still in training that he would never marry.

”Leave it to Dabuir to quote some Mando code.” Teefone laughed as he looked at Dabuir across the room. Dabuir looked over, and with a single hand motion, gave the polite military version of an Avatarian obscenity. Of course, that led to all of the men laughing and Dabuir just shaking his head.

This banter would go on while Tay’haai spoke, and was just the standard way the guards would pass the time. Surely, they were not lax on their job. Honestly, some within the Grand Army wondered why fully-trained soldiers were sent on security detail instead of allowing the teams to hire private contractors, and everytime he was asked, the Avatar never really held an answer. ‘It is an honor to travel with the team’ and ‘The men have earned an easy assignment’ were his usual retorts, and it never quite satisfied the media or the generals. However, being the Avatar, and they his Avatarian Guards, meant he could deploy them however he saw fit and all the generals could do was smile and agree.

The pros of being the anointed leader of the Republics… and the pros of being on the anointed’s personal guard…

*The Managerial Side: Matchday Two*

A bright sunny day beamed down the green football pitch as every player in the lineup went for normal training as usual. Hartley watched over from the stands, vying to understand what plans he could come up with when Khytonya met Gallavrynga on home soil. He'd remember swapping a defensive/offensive-supported 4-1-2-1-2 for a midfield-pushing 3-1-4-2, as a counter to the highly explosive, attacking-minded 4-3-3 formation that the Lionhearts like to implement. The idea was for the midfield to push like a line of soldiers in an era of muskets. Then, they would shut down the attacking chance and pick up the ball for it to be used by the attackers. The result was a tactic that stood up against a team that prioritises attack while neglecting defense.

Then Hartley found the solution to increasing its effectiveness (and ironing out the flaws). He knew that Williams and Matthews weren't specialised in defense, but they can be trained to hone their defensive side by converting them into reinforcements between a trio of center-backs, a lone sweeping midfielder, and the supposed dynamic duo that was the midfield. Should the attack became ferocious for the midfield, these two women would need to close the gap quickly as soon as the wingers' went to the wide-area as a catalyst for goals. Luckily, Williams and Matthews has excellent stamina that would keep them going until the end. Hartley would need to tell the physiotherapist to teach them the importance of conserving energy to help to bolster two's particular skills.

The next concerned with midfielder Jared O'Reilly. O'Reilly loves to play defensively and Hartley gave him a role as an anchor between the wide midfield and the center backs. Essentially, Hartley placed O'Reilly as a 'de facto' leader of the defensive squad. He was meant to be a co-ordinator to indicate where the players were supposed to be and who they should be marking. Typically, the focus was on the Gallavryngan trio of Giraffe, Villanueva and Booth but that also extends to wide backs, too. In the end, O'Reilly's role in the midfield part will depend his leadership skills and his job as a tough guardian for the defensive side.

Heaven knows if Khytonya were able to grab their three points in their debut inter-regional tournament. Hopefully, the home crowd will get behind them.

THE RED ARMY DEBUTS IN THE AOCAF LXII WITH A DEFEAT

In their first appearance in the Atlantian Oceania regional competition, the Tiog national team suffered a close 1-0 loss to Yesopalitha. After they participated in the Cup of Harmony in Ethane and Sylestone, Gúpder Mebal re-selected many of the players who had not been present in the Red Army, in addition to four newcomers. The result was not what was expected, but the team does not give up. There are five matches ahead, in which the Red Army must show its best level if they want to advance to the next phase.

KEM! - AOCAF LXII

The Red Army is making its debut in the AOCAF. Tioguldós is performing for the first time in the regional competition, in which they hope to build a history full of laurels. The first step in this story is to advance, for the first time, to the next phase. To do this, they must overcome their opponents from group C3: Yesopalitha, Pluvia and the Saxean Isles, and Aut-Ves-Nat. The first of the six matches that the national team must play ended with a defeat against Yesopalitha.

The game was not very flashy. Tioguldós did not play excellently, and while the team did create some decent plays, they were never able to beat goalkeeper A'th'l Mik'o'si. The Red Army's 4-3-3 could not cope with the numerical superiority of K'rethar's 4-5-1. As coach Mebal said in a press conference: "We have to improve. The match against Yesopalitha allowed us to identify key errors. Against Aut-Ves-Nat we will give greater importance to starting the plays from Oches and Poir, to achieve a more orderly outcome."

The presence of Miluose Oches in the first team seems to have satisfied thousands of Tiogs, who harshly criticized his absence during the Cup of Harmony. The Muko Tiog champion center-back, who was transferred to Rockridge Phoenix from Brenecia, had an amazing match. His role as a leader in defense became very evident. Another notable player in this match was the captain Lumugue Niforro. Despite the team's difficulties to overcome the halfway line, Nese stood out with several steals, advances, and a couple of quality plays. After leaving for Marlesee 97 from Siovanija and Teusland seeking new horizons, he left a difficult gap to fill in the national league. However, fans can continue to enjoy his performances on the international scene, as they do with the rest of the country's stars.

The substitutions of Telá Potos for Choam Osfomilúo and Óstam Perda Raom for Tios Pórmel Mufes in the 78th minute marked a significant change in the pace of the match. By forming a 4-4-2 the Red Army managed to control the situation a bit more and, although they failed to score an equalizer, they showed that it may be feasible to sacrifice some quality in favor of a greater presence in the midfield in some situations. Mebal seems to be closely following the progress of Osfomilúo, who after a memorable season with Draspa Moipas was transferred to Tikariot City, where he is doing excellent.

Overall, the Red Army is playing well. Despite the lost match, both the fans and the team are optimistic about Tioguldós' future in the AOCAF. Advancing to the next phase would not only mean a sporting milestone for the country, but it would be a crucial step to earn a place in a higher pot, where it will have a better chance in subsequent editions of the competition.

First match pleases Prescott
by Mindy Cartwright, National Soccer Editor

After a 4-1 away victory over Flavovespia in the opening match of AOCAF 62, Manager Jennifer Prescott was unexpectedly bullish on the team's performance.

"We felt the run-out we had in Hamilton (against Mavinet in a friendly) was a good starting point, but I didn't really expect to come here and get off to flying start. I told the squad yesterday that just because the usual suspects aren't here, people are still gonna be ready when Baker Park shows up so they'd better get prepared for 90 minutes of the other side's best effort."

Ayana West had a brace, with Daniel Pryor and Marcus Nolan both adding a goal to put BP ahead 4-0 at the 2/3 mark of the match, and that gave Prescott a chance to bring in a couple of subs to get them more time ahead of the next fixture, at the Capitalizt Dome in Chromia; Freddie Altman made his second appearance off the bench and Hayley Gibson replaced West.

Amy Freeman had come on for Gabby Jordan just a few minutes after half-time, but Prescott said it wasn't a issue. "No, we told Gabs that we wanted to get (Freeman) about an half hour, we just waited until after the break to see how the first few minutes of the second half would transpire."

This will be the fifth time the Anomalies and Bees will have met, the third time in the regionals. Prescott said that wouldn't play very heavy on the mind of the players. "I don't think any of them played in any of the last two or three times we've faced them (a 1-0 friendly defeat prior to WC 86 and the 5-2 loss in the last edition of the AOCAF in the round of 16), so it's just a match against an excellent team that we need to get a good result against. With it being home & home in this stage of the competition, a loss isn't automatically a crisis, but a point on the road might mean the difference between advancing or not."

The tribes of the north. Not exactly the most inviting group of people when Gallavrynga was first settled. To be fair, before it was "settled" they weren't the "tribes of the north", they were just the people of the nation. Then three times invaders came, and they were pushed further and further north. Eventually the four peoples of Gallavrynga came together, the treaty of Freicote. Essentially you stay on your land, and we'll stay on ours. Eventually the tribes adapted to the north. They lost most of their loyalty to the marshes, the mountains and the endless plains. They modernized quickly.

The tribes aren't really tribes anymore. In fact, Freicote is the third largest city in all of Gallavrynga, behind only New London and Montauseau. They with Prydelio are the four Capital cities of Gallavrynga. The Hills Capital, Montauseau, the Tribe Capital, Freicote, the Marsh Capital, New London, and finally the Plains Capital, Prydelio.

It started as an uneasy alliance of four separate, but equal sovereign people, but over time they came together. The tribes were not as "savage" as they once were. In fact the northern city of Mukojo is the tech capital of the nation. The planes, the trains, and most of the automobiles are built in it's plants. The people of the North have grown accustomed to the rich feeling of luxury. They live in modern, techy buildings, and the cold never bothers them anyways. Things have really changed in Gallavrynga.

Fans call for Itagaki out of national team
aji no moto held by netop in opening match

Joshuyo - Boos shrouded the Ajinomoto Stadium after Netop managed to take a point from Aji No Moto following a 2-2 draw. It has been very early in the first stage of the competition in League C4. but fans already want manager Bunta Itagaki out, for having the national team play uninspired football and allowing the Netopians to take the lead twice but the Ajians strike back to scrape away with a draw. Next match will see the Ajians go to Ibixa for a visit and hopefully a win.

Fans will continue to expect Itagaki to win games for them in League C4 with five games to play in the first stage.

Relevance

"Two to two," Sylvia Zimari said hidden under worried-masked-indifferent breaths. It was the new team's debut, a match against Gyatso-Kai that, in her head, would be the first test of her leadership. She had been overworking the recruits from the very moment they were pried from their homes during the wake of the Cup of Harmony denying Qasden an invitation. Long time players like the great Brickwall Abbott were kept from going home to help hone in the strength of the litter, practically killing them in all ways but literal. In the back of her head, Zimari knew the team was still fresh and hadn't actually undergone any real competition until now, but regardless, she saw them as an armada of youthful dreadnoughts ready to sink anything thrown their way. Yet on their first go, they were merely held to a draw.

Sylvia slowly paced around her hotel room, blocking the tv for assistant manager Icarus Darsten enough for him to sigh somnolently and turn it off in defeat. "A draw this early is fine, Sylvia," Darsten remarked lazily, "It's the recruits' first real match, of course it's not gonna be easy."
"I know that," responded Sylvia, pursuing with her anxious promenade, "I just underestimated how intense the AOCAF would be this time. I mean, I've done this tournament enough to understand it's gimmicks, and the team is already strong enough to beat the origina—"
"Syl, relax," interrupted Icarus, "You're new, they're new, and the draw against Gyatso-Kai was at least an entertaining one." The former captain moved his hand to a laptop across the bed, opening it immediately to a spreadsheet to unintentionally prove he didn't turn it off correctly. "The other teams in our group drew at nil each; imagine paying for those tickets. I bet their away kit sales didn't jump by twenty percent."
"But how can I prove myself to the higher ups that I'm capable of being a fit replacement for David if I can't get the points?" exclaims Sylvia, her worry now unsheathed. Icarus paused for a moment with a confused look on his face. "Girl, there isn't a higher up worth impressing right now. Sedsten's giving up his position as association president to run for prime minister, so I doubt he'll have enough time to get red-faced over a match more successful than eighty percent of our last time in AOCAF."
"Yeah, I forget he's doing that," Zimari remarks with a hint of perplexity, "Why did he decide on running, exactly?" Darsten shrugs, "Apparently attention to sports has been waning drastically across the nation. One of the frontrunner parties wants to defund the Ministry of Sports in order to focus more on infrastructure or something. Sedsten wanted to make a vain attempt to stop it."
"Politics is a strange world." "Aye."

Sylvia finally stopped pacing and sat on the bed neighboring Darsten's, becoming progressively dreary from the brief anxiety. The night was finally acknowledged within her mentalscape as she keeled back onto the mattress, mere minutes from fully descending into REM mode. Icarus half-smiled as best as a half-asleep person could before laying back and turning off the lights. "Darsten," Sylvia mumbles as her conscious wanes, "Don't sugar coat it for me in Fyre, okay?

The Aut-Ves-Nat lost it’s game by a goal, but not a fraction. This was noteworthy because the XGs for both sides were not whole numbers. “We were not sure why we did not win” Ben Schumacher said for an interview with the Aut-Ves-Nat-Tee-Vee. The 4-3-3 of Pluvia and the Saxean Isles was a good tactical opponent for the Aut-Ves-Nat 3-4-3, and we may see them again soon. "The rules of this event, they are good, but they could be better," Backup goalie Bob Scottsman stated on social media. "I married a ham sandwich, but I think on should play this game on a sea fearing vessel.

Reports state that 1000 shells were fired into the open sea after the defeat. Center back Judas Fuller is reported to have been fired out of an artillery cannon of the Aut-Ves-Nat. Another noteworthy rumor was the hydraulic fluid that reportedly leaked from th Aut-Ves-Nat locker room. “Third parties are not allowed inside, and I don’t think they saw anything anyhow” the Aus-Vet-Nat head coach stated to Aut-Ves-Nat-Tee-Vee. These rumors are unsubstantiated, however, we do know that a team photo is currently being printed on a Tandy, and should arrive shortly.
Aut-Ves-Nat, the greastest sea fearing and/or seafaring nation ever!
All people this vessel are human, ingore any hydraulic fluids.

SULTANATE OF OONTAZ DERT LI NG
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

This is the eleventh time that Oontaz Dert Li Ng will be participating in the AOCAF. Oontaz got through undefeated in the group stage of the Baptism of Fire 61 but was knocked out in the round of 16 by Arioslavia. The nation is a mix of Muslims and Catholics, with the Mohammedans concentrated in the northern part of the country and the Christians living mostly in the southern islands. Despite a turbulent early history which saw both religious groups fighting constant wars and rebellions, by the time Abanhfleft came and "occupied" the nation in 1921, a general "peace" had settled between the two groups, and today both are content to consider each other as Oontazniks. Despite being a sultanate, the freedom of religion is valued by the nation, although it would be good advice to say that while the Catholics and Christians might be welcoming, even accommodating, to foreigners of strange new religions, the Muslims might not be so welcoming.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Sultanate of Oontaz Dert Li Ng
Demonym: Oontaznik
Nickname: Lions of Sand and Sea
Team colors: Green and white
Style modifier: -2.0 (Defensive this time around)
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Head coach: Faris Feraoun (50 y/o, Oontaz Dert Li Ng)

STARTERS
GK: Septimio BARRANQUILLANO 42 y/o, Botafogo de Maranao Image, captain
Maranao is renowned in Oontaz as being one of the best football academies, if not the best, in the country. It also has a reputation of producing good goalkeepers from its ranks. Unfortunately, Septimio is not one of those good keepers. Sure, he's decent, and can pull off a save that could be considered world-class, but for all intents and purposes, if he really was one of the good keepers, he would not be playing in Oontaz anymore, especially not for a mid-table side like Botafogo.

RB: Marcus Oliver "Marco" PORTENCIO 34 y/o, Electric Yugal Image (Abanhfleft)
Marco Portencio is one of the new faces on the Oontaznik national football team following the sacking of Emir Usamah and the elevation of Ador Macaspac from star striker to new team manager. Marco is a quality right back who is already showing flashes of world-class brilliance, kind of like a cheap Oontaznik version of Hector Bellerin. He has pace in buckets, and he is also good for scoring a goal or two per season.

RCB: Halim GUEROUABI 28 y/o, Atletico Bed Deg Image (Copper Cuprum)
Guerouabi's main role is simply to sit in front of the goalkeeper and stop balls from getting through. Long legs and a large body help him achieve this objective easily enough for a defensive-minded team like Atletico Bed Deg and the Sultanate national football team. He can also head balls away in defense or score headers from corner kicks in offense. Also has a history of handballs, so that is one thing an opponent can use to their advantage.

LCB: Garson LAPITAN 35 y/o, Sub Deg Raiders A.F.C. Image (Copper Cuprum)
Garson is a defender whose main assets are speed and a good footballing mind. He can catch up to all but the fastest players in any given league, not that he is often caught out of position. His only downside is that he fancies himself someone who can crack open the opposition's defense with a long ball, a tactic which more often than not gives the ball back to the opposition. Age has decreased his pace, but Lapitan still remains a resolute rock in the middle of the Sultanate's defense.

LB: Martin OPULENCIA 35 y/o, Real Mikkaleth Image (Abanhfleft)
Another new face from Ador Macaspac's new look Oontaznik team. Martin is a resolute left back who doesn't shrink away from making any challenges, even against players normally acknowledged as "untouchable" by other teams' defenses. He is content to remain at the back, defending his goal when needed, but sometimes he might be commanded to come up for an attack, and he doesn't shrink away from scoring a goal or two per season either.

DM: Burhan BOUTEFLIKA 31 y/o, Hapoel Nineveh Image
Marauder best describes Bouteflika's role in the midfield, both for NIneveh and the Sultanate. He roams around the middle of the pitch, watching and waiting for the ball to arrive anywhere near him so he can steal it off of the opposing player or at the very least allow a fellow defender to cut out the chance before it becomes dangerous. But it's easy to counter this by just playing the ball at the part of the midfield where Bouteflika is farthest away. This could open up gaps in the Sultanate's defenses.

CM: Seif DAHER 30 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi Image
From the middle of the park, Daher can ping a pass to a flea sitting on a blade of grass somewhere inside the opposition's third. Unfortunately he has the turning radius of an oil tanker and the acceleration of a fully loaded freight train. His best use is sitting in the middle of the field, receiving the ball there and moving it on quickly. Any attempt to use him in a defensive capacity will only result in tears, cards, and penalties.

RW: Abram TUMANGGOR 29 y/o, Botafogo de Maranao Image

CAM: Mubarak ZIDANE 25 y/o, Rotor Dnistrosh Image (Pridnestrovia)

LW: WEYVERLEY Lopes da Costa 31 y/o, Tarbayog Aguilas Image
Weyverley was supposed to be one of the Sultanate's biggest footballing stars by now. Everyone's eyes were on him when he started tearing up the Fleftic Unang Liga and Premier League with Antslinngs Islands. Weyverley was too good to be playing in the second tier of Abanhfleft, and CSKA Tiraspol swiftly scooped him up in their bid to return to relevance in Pridnestrovia. Unfortunately, this was where Weyverley's attitude problems started to surface, and after getting into fights with both his teammates and the bouncers of the clubs he frequented in Tiraspol, Weyverley was soon shown the door. He's been trying to recover some of the form that he showed in Antslinngs back home in the Sultanate only to end up bouncing around from club to club.

FW: Arthur SUPRATNO 30 y/o, Malabon SC Image (Abanhfleft) (vice-captain)
Supratno has had a rollercoaster of a season. He scored the goal that won Malabon SC the Globe Cup against Schottia's Port Sebastian, but the season immediately after that he was unable to help the Ravens retain their FPL status. Despite his relegation though, Supratno has remained loyal to Malabon, and with his status as a 20-goal-per-season striker now cemented, it's only a matter of when and not if Malabon will be promoted back to the Fleftic top flight.

RESERVES
GK: Usamah ROBERTS-INGLES 34 y/o, Botafogo de Maranao Image
At least Botafogo's goalkeeper academy produced another good one. Unfortunately for him, he's both too young to be the national team's starting keeper, and he's also the son of a marriage between an Oontaznik and a foreigner, so discrimination is coming into play in here. But not by much, because he's so good and the other keepers are so... crap that Emir Usamah had no choice but to call him up even though both of them know that goalie Usamah won't get to play while Emir Usamah's the manager.

GK: Aziz MEKHLOUFI 23 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi Image

DEF: Burhaan SIAHAYA 28 y/o, Vay Deg Eels A.F.C. Image (Copper Cuprum)

*Postmatch Review: Matchday Two*
*Khytonya 1<--X-->Gallavrynga 2*

First Goal, First Loss

Even on home soil, you're not expected to win in those first few games. In this case, a highly intense match that ended with Gallavrynga coming home with three points in their pockets. In a match filled with attacking chances, the Lionhearts came through the end. We've told everyone that this team was not a walk in a park. And after the match, our words rang true. But we don't leave this article on a sad note. For one thing, there was a goal (courtesy of Liaw's superb strike from outside the box). And the Magical Bhoys took the game seriously as there are as many chances as you count. That was the good part of the match. Moreover, Matthews and Williams do indeed should promises as good wingbacks. Perhaps there should be used a little more should Hartley want to stick with the 3-1-4-2 formation. Their experiences can come in handy for future matches.

First Half: The match started with a slow and steady game as it went underway. And that's what we can say for the first of the game. Slowly, the attacking prowess crawled in the skins of every Gallavrygans in the pitch. Once the power kicked in, it escalated into a ping pong game between the two teams. Every moment is just Gallavrynga and Khytonya taking shots one after another, except the former was always getting all the attempts with everyone going after goals. It started with on 20th minute. Julio Sanchez ran in the wide-area with Carla Martinez and Adam Martin were trying to get past Sillinger and Boucher, respectively. Eventually, Martinez was able to reach the ball for Francisco Testudio to pick up. Honma positioned herself and saved Testudio's attempt for the Gallavryngans. A corner was given to them, with the ball going straight into Honma's hands, landing to the pitch where no one ever kicks it, less they be cruel enough to give her a broken nose.

After the 20th minute, everything went insane. Shots after shots after shots from Gallavrynga made sure they were a dominant force here. Nobody had ever expected how hellish it must have been from the defenders to constantly mark their forwards from. As for Khytonya, that real chance came on the 43rd minute. As Chiduke Mravenga and Julio Sanchez prepared for another threat imposed to Khytonya's defenders, Matthews stole the pass and dribble shortly before giving to Liaw, who ghost-past through the two defenders to shoot the ball. Alas, keeper Ashante Collier made a fine save and dash any sort of shocking moments that defy anything. After that, the match calmed down as the first half came to a close. At least, for this blissful moment...

Second Half: Gallavrynga opened the second half with the first goal of the game. On the 47th minute, Sean Booth waltzed through Matthews whilst Carlos Villanueva broke through the entire defensive wall. The latter proceeded to score on the top corner the moment Booth cross into his foot. Honma tried her best diving, but she fell like a sawed timber in the forest. That first conceded goal must be painful to look at, but that was only a minor scratch. Then, on the 51st minute, another goal from the Lionhearts came from a solo effort from Testudio, who proceeded to tear the wall even further and launched a ball high enough to surpass Honma. With two goals under their belt, the Magical Bhoys started to become shakier. Then again, those goals happen through a combination of the wide midfielders' constant running and O'Reilly having a hard time trying to fix the wall before anything disastrous happen, simply due to the enormous pressure getting the best of him.

Khytonya still had time left to secure another draw and were encouraged by supporters to keep pressing on, because they believed the players on the pitch had plenty of unbroken spirits left. Heaven answered the cry of many of them and bless Khytonya on the 65th minute. A free-kick was given to them after substituted defender Carlton Lassiter clutched one of Matthews's leg and brought her down as if it were a takedown technique in a fighting game. Matthews stepped in for the free-kick and booted the ball straight into Liaw's foot, who converted into a beautiful goal that definitely was. After the agony of the last game, Khytonya scored their first goal in an inter-regional tournament. Supporters were filled with so much delight that losing didn't even matter at that point. We're very sure the moment we witness the goal in real life it was a joy to watch. Again and again in the highlights and on the internet. Surely no one would forget that day Thomas Liaw Cheng Swee was the first goalscorer in Khytonya's international history.

The rest of the half was the same as the first half. This time, it was more of a scrappy affair as the consequence of attacks led to terrible tackling from both sides. To put that in the perspective, since the 70th minute, there was a foul committed every 3.5 minutes. Kyle Conacher and substituted midfielder Ron Westwick were booked for Khytonya whilst Gallavrynga had four players receiving the yellow card. One of them even got sent off on the 78th minute, when Mravenga tripped Wendy McKenna by stamping her shin when he meant for a standing tackle. He has no intention for what he did, but we sincerely wished Mravenga learn his lesson.

When the referee blew the whistle, it was a bittersweet outcome of matchday two. Khytonya were defeated by Gallavrynga, but they were defeated with grace. The players decided to exchange their jerseys with all the love and friendliness they can throw at. Hartley congratulated Isaac Longwood for what he considered to be an epic battle between the two. Final score: Khytonya, 1. Gallavrynga, 2.

What does it mean?

Despite his acceptable efforts, O'Reilly wasn't capable enough to stop goals from happening. Additionally, his underconfidence was terribly unfortunate due to the immense pressure from the strikers who constantly overwhelm him.
Thomas Liaw was the hero in Khytonian eyes for being the first ever goalscorer in the AOCAF. With a graceful first touch on the ball, Liaw fired the ball past Collier and brought in the ecstasy from the fans wanted. That was also the first assist from Matthews, credited with a nice chip over the wall of defenders.
If you think Anthor attempts more shots, Gallavryngans would like you to hold their good pint of beer. They've attempted 24 shots compared to Khytonya's 6. The former also had 8 shots in target. It was a brutal match that Khytonians felt they were lucky not to lose by 10 goals.

Both sides will be far away from home on matchday three. Khytonya will be the away side once again as they take on North Handoria. Meanwhile, Anthor will host Gallavrynga after yet another draw from the latter.

SETT FOREST LEFT FEELING ILE
Iles Rogieres 0-0 Sett Forest

A. Harris
J. Martin, G. Colson, J. Williams, B. Neal
O. Bradley, A. Williams, L. Dennison, C. Williams
C. Feeney, A. Geeson

SOMEWHERE IN ILES ROGIERES - Football is a funny old game. You can score three and still come away disappointed, or score none and be thrilled. The Sad Badgers flew straight to Iles Rogieres after the loss against Osarius looking to capitalize on an impressive second half performance that left both players and fans optimistic.

Before the game, manager J. Barclay stated there would be changes at the back and that was evident with J. Williams replacing R. Oatley in defence, and T. Walsh making way for A. Harris in goal. In midfield, O. Bradley was given a chance at A. Haynes's expense. "Seven goals is a lot on the mind. Last time, I picked an experienced squad, but some players felt they let the side down in the game against Osarius. No one has let the side down. Players will be given the chance to prove themselves, but I need those players to be prepared mentally, this will be a tough tournament".

The game was never set to be a classic from the beginning, scrappy plays and soft calls from the referee disrupting the ebb and flow. Apart from an Iles Rogieres shot deflecting off B. Neal, making A. Harris put in a shift to clear the once-wayward shot off the line, there wasn't much to talk about on the concourse.

Again, it was in the second half that Sett Forest upped their game. Perhaps it was seeking out the weaknesses of the home side, but the Sad Badgers starting to send the balls down the wings, with wide midfielders O. Bradley and C. Williams playing more forward, low crosses often found the feet of either C. Feeney or A. Geeson, but they were never able to find the back of the net, only the side of it. Sett Forest's defence were largely untested during this period, and thus able to come slightly forward to help with passing play.

The full whistle blew, and though no goals were scored, it was a first competitive point for Sett Forest. "It is frustrating" said manager J. Barclay, "we played better today than we did against Osarius, but we could not find the goal we needed to seal the deal. I cannot fault the effort of the players, but we'll be disappointed. We are still in the baby step phase as we test the waters of international football, and we'll take the point, but we could have had three".

Sett Forest head home to Tetton as they welcome Legalese in what will be another tough fixture. The visitors sit in second after drawing 3-3 with Osarius.

*The Prelude: Matchday Three*

Let's not take that loss as a harsh note. Khytonya was still a newcomer in inter-regional matches so there was a need of familiarising the surroundings. Mentally-wise, in the last Gallavrynga's highly explosive offense a bit too intense for the Magical Bhoys. That was something Hartley didn't take into account when players like O'Reilly, Matthews and recent benchwarmer Kieran Howe were unable to keep calm and secure the field. So with an away match against North Handoria, it won't be as unnerving as the last match. Well, that and every Gallavryngan was horrifically overpowered.

Image

It seemed the 3-1-4-2 didn't give Hartley and his team the result that they want. After a short trip to the drawing board, Hartley decided that four defenders were better than three so the wide 4-1-2-1-2 formation was chosen. Meanwhile, Weigang advises the defenders to stay in their positions and hold them as such. Don't expect them to join in the attack. Moreover, O'Reilly gets to stay as a defensive midfielder despite being almost easily conquered by the Gallavryngan attack. He showed some promise of awareness and leadership so he'll be in the starting lineups once again.

Due to the usage of a wide formation, Matthews and Williams were able to fully focus on the wide area. This way, in a wide diamond-shape form, both women were able to support both defense and attack as they will be utilising the wide area to cross into either Liaw or Sakai.

Speaking of strikers, one weird thing about this decision was the inclusion of Arianne Panarin. Out of all players, she was a child prodigy Khytonya thought was a good idea to pick up upon, but only because other players in the KPL turned down the offer of playing in the national side. Panarin's key trait was her dedication of the sport, fueled by her love for the game. The result was her potential reputation as an all-rounder forward whom someone can rely upon. Thing was, we haven't been convinced a literal child took part in an inter-regional game. Right now, this was a reality. Stranger things have happened before.

Marcus Waters denies post World Cup hangover; preaches need for patience after Banija drops second straight home game at the AOCAFs

Image
Banijan players look on after their bitterly contested 1-0 home defeat to Sarzonia at AOCAF LXII

HOIMA, ANKOLE- 0-3. That is the record of the Kadongo Kamu following their World Cup triumph at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds over Nephara. The numbers say it all, and for the time being, they are not pretty for a national team that is still looking to declare themselves champions of Atlantian Oceania for the first time ever. In their first(and only) post World Cup friendly, they ran out the World Cup 86 Squad to much fanfare for a celebratory match in a raucous environment against Siovanija & Teusland, up in Herzegovina City. The Goldhorns were triumphant on the day, however, downing the Banijans 3-1. Then, of course, Marcus Waters has made big squad changes and a formation change since then.

The RBSA did not schedule any friendlies for Marcus Waters, much to his apparent frustration. With a major change in tactics designed to keep Banija's best players(namely Ilman Jawara and Idai Uster) on the field at the same time, they could have used a friendly or two for a chance to implement it. But while there were discussions with Drawkland about a pre-tournament friendly, plans ultimately fell through. When Waters was asked about it however, he said that there were 'no excuses' for Banija's 0-2 start. "We were outplayed by Equestria at the Stadium of the Restoration, and then were outplayed this past night by Sarzonia. Simple as that."

It has looked like a tough adjustment for this talented side that is looking to chase for glory on their home turf. Not everything has gone according to plan for them, obviously. With a back 3, it is obviously more incumbent on midfielders to get back and help defenders. It is more incumbent to be able to control possession, and not to allow a swift, counter-attacking opposition to be able to track back and put immense pressure on Banija's three defenders. Tactically, Marcus Waters is still going to have to fiddle around with this lineup some more, and figure out exactly what his starting XI is.

He spoke to reporters about those challenges. "I know, it's not what our fans want to hear right now. They want to see us win! And that is fair- there is an expectation and a standard around this program that we are proud to have set. But this is the group of death of this tournament, and nothing will come easy. Sarzonia is a former world champion, who beat us at World Cup 85. Equestria won the World Cup just three cycles, and are an opponent that we've never beaten. These are not easy games. But our fans should have patience. A big tactical change that we've had, from a back 4 to a back 3, can take time to really get going."

"Back-to-back losses are never a good thing, and we haven't lost two in a row at home in what seems like forever. Frankly, I don't think we've lost two competitive matches in a row at home since World Cup 80 Qualifying- although, of course, the statisticians would have to check that. We're up with our backs against the wall, got three straight away games to try and claw something out of this group, to do what it takes to stay in League A. But don't look at the players- look at me. This formation change was the right move. Sometimes, you've got to change the tactics to fit the squad. Jawara and Uster both are world-class strikers, Jawara in the midst of his prime and Uster just starting to hit hers. They're a team up top that can play well together if asked."

Marcus Waters was asked about the idea of a World Cup hangover. It's a phenomena in sports- the hangover you can get after winning a title, especially after winning one for the first time. He firmly denied that they were suffering from one. Kuma Bultum, the captain, gave more insight. "To say that we are suffering from a World Cup hangover is ludicrous. World Cup 86 is over and done. If all you're doing is thinking about that, frankly, you can walk. But none of us are thinking about that. This is a new tournament- success in the past promises you nothing for the future. We all want to desperately be able to call ourselves champions of Atlantian Oceania. It's a prestigious and important title, that's why we put so much into this tournament. Tactical adjustments take time- but I'll say this. If anyone out there is going to count us out, or thinks that we aren't capable of picking up points away from home, then they got another thing coming."

There are a couple of tactical adjustments that Marcus Waters might make. First, going through the Starting XI, there are about 7 fixtures in that lineup. Let's go through them. Francois Tantoh, in net. Kuma Bultum, at center back. Mzukisi Nzo, at central midfield. Madu Okparra, at right midfielder. Namakula Kawesa, playing in the #10 role. And then Ilman Jawara and Idai Uster, playing as the team's twin strikers. Those guys, are the core of the national team for this cycle and going forward. They aren't going to get taken out of the starting XI, and there is certainly no argument for doing so, so there is no need to discuss that.

The other four spots, however, are the spots that will be the most interesting ones. The defenders around Kuma Bultum might change. Alanso Tibamba is playing well, but Kinteh seems to struggle a little bit on the left side of the back 3. He is a strong defender, for sure- he has been an integral part of this setup for a while now. Maybe Lama Nyang could get a start on the left side? He has speed. Some think that, with the team only playing a back 3, he is a little too adventurous going forward, but maybe that's what they need to help improve their game, which is a possession based game.

Another place where Waters may look to freshen things up a little bit, is the central midfield. Three central midfielders who were in the national team setup last cycle retired, leaving a vacuum- and a lot of players to compete for these spots. Musa Gaye got the first crack to etch his name in the starting XI, but he has not played that well. Maybe it's the pressure of the national team, and the pressure of intense competition for playing time? Sometimes, his passes are a little too hesitant, and he can overcompensate. Already, he's earned yellow cards in each of his first two games, and is suspended for their visit to Audioslavia anyways. Immaculate Kaba or Cyper Corr will likely get a shot. Both are U21 world champions, Cyper Corr is a U18 world champion as well.

Anyways, important squad decisions are faced by Marcus Waters. That's why he's played the big bucks right? As the #1 team in the multiverse and the inventors of this format, getting relegated from League A would be something that could not be lived down for fans of this national team. And with losing the opening two at home, and forced to climb out of the cellar when 3 of their next 4 are on the road, this team is going to have to show mental toughness. This is as tough a test as they've had in this tournament in a long time. Will they fall, and start to turn on each other, letting frustrations get the best of then? Or will they band together and rise to the occasion? Not to overstate, but this away match against Audioslavia is a crucial one- they must get at least one point, and they'd certainly want all 3, if they want to turn this campaign around and give themselves a chance of avoiding relegation.

In Group A3, things are heating up and fingers are starting to be pointed...

Image

However, around the other groups, one player is completing all their goals and sucked the 02 out of Valanora, while another has claimed to complete just one goal, but they look like they might be the one doing sabotage to their own chances...

Matchday 2' is a bit early to be able to determine the Champion, but definitely White is sus. Blue might just be getting ejected out the airlock first, however.

Busoga Islands protect home field, earn a pair of home wins to start AOCAF LXII

Islander players celebrate the game's lone goal in their Matchday 2 victory against the Overseas Territories of Sylestone

DUKUMA, NORTH ISLAND- We all know the disaster that the World Cup 86 cycle was. Falling 37 places in the KPB rankings in one cycle, from Pot 3 in Qualifying to a middle of the pack Pot 5 squad for the next World Cup Qualifying cycle. But there's no need to think about that now. Like Bethany Donnell has told fans and the squad, they are not worried about that- they are going to look forward. "This AOCAF is a good starting point for this national team." She told reporters before Matchday 1. "We know why we are here- wipe the taste out of our mouths of our past, and really start over again, and try to climb the ladder and make some progress."

Well, the team has taken her message to heart. The tactics are the same- strong, disciplined defending, both in the back but especially in the midfield, and trying to steal the ball to effectively counter-attack. And so far in this tournament, these are tactics that are working. Let's take Matchday 1. The Busoga Islands were facing off against Lochario. Lochario is not a nation you hear about a lot- they've never played in the World Cup Finals. But yet, quietly, they are strong and they are a consistent nation. They are the highest ranked team in League B, and they find themselves as a top 20 side in the rankings.

That is a tough matchup. But at Lakiska City Field, the fanbase was ready, and the players were ready behind them. It was a tightly fought match for the entirety of the 90 minutes. Islander players worked hard to shut down their Lochario opponents, and to suffocate their attack going forward. The President's son, Kasekende Jr., played well in the role of defensive midfielder. He was able to repeatedly close down on his opponents, and help prevent things from getting to the back line. While Mustafa Taal made some quality saves, he wasn't truly tested in the opener, a credit to his defenders. Kamu Jacobs, the team's star player, was able to score the team's lone goal. He was able to race past the Lochario back line on a long overhead pass from Jay Khano, and keeping his composure one on one with the goalkeeper, chipped the ball up just over the keeper's head for the game's lone goal in the 52nd minute.

It was a good opening win, beating the Pot 1 side and taking sole possession of first place in Group B1. But even as the energy was there, the team kept its focus. They said all the right things- the importance of protecting home field, it's just one game out of 6, none of their goals are yet accomplished. But still- a good first step. Their second game was against the Overseas Territories of Sylestone, their bid rivals to host the tournament. This time, they moved the game from the country's capitol to the country's largest city, on the North Island. The Busoga Islands were able to keep more possesion, and force the Overseas Territories on the back foot for much of the game. A Kamu Jacobs cross found the head of veteran winger Upanshu Paramartha, who headed the ball home in the 32nd minute in Dukuma. That was all they needed to earn that win, coming out with their second consecutive 1-0 victory, and already four points clear in the group.

"This is a tough group that we have at this tournament." Kamu Jacobs, the captain, said to reporters after the match. "We were fortunate in the draw, however, to have the ability to play our first two games at home. It gave us the ability to play in front of our own fans right away, to play in a raucous environment, and allow us to gain both confidence and points quickly. We've taken full advantage, unlike some other teams on the other side of the Shango-Fogoa Basin, and have earned six points. Even though we're four points up, we haven't accomplished our goals yet and have earned nothing. We've got a tough three game road trip- we need to be ready for that."

Jay Khano, another one of the team's veteran starters, agreed with his captain. "Look, with this format, only the group winner will get promoted. We need to do what we can to win this group, and that means earning points away from home. We've done what we were supposed to do here, and I am happy about that- six points from 2 games at home is nothing short of excellent. But there are plenty of games left to play, and we've got a visit to the Freeport Isles coming up."

And he is right. The team will travel to Freeport Isles to play them on Matchday 3. They are a tough opponent to play. The Islanders actually have a history against them, playing them in a number of friendlies, but most prominently in the knockout stages of their Baptism of Fire. The Freeport Isles triumphed against the Islanders in that Baptism of Fire, in a match where the current President of the Republic was the starting goalkeeper for our national team. But the Islanders will be looking to erase that from memory, and establish some sort of a winning record against Freeport.

They've got a stranglehold on the group right now. They've got a chance to maintain that stranglehold- they don't want to start allowing other teams to climb back up and get back in it. When you have your opponents down, you've got to put it away. So hopefully, the team's focus and drive will be maintained against The Condottieri, and they can earn at least a point. Although, of course, we all want them to earn 3 if at all possible.

wat

Audioslavia collectively blinks, frowns and studies the back of its beer bottle to double-check its ABV. Victorious 6-2. Six Two. Away to an Equestria side that had gone into the game as favourites.

The Club squad looked exciting and unpredictable on paper, and so it proved, with Koenraad Rijsbergen scoring a towering header after two minutes to stun the hosts, with Moses Moxey volleying home an unstoppable shot on 7 minutes to mug the Equestrians.

Equestria replied on twenty-six minutes, but they were denied the chance to truly get a foothold back in the game just two minutes later. A Gabriel Oteiza pass across the edge of the area found club-mate (and name-mate) Gabriel Zozaia, who got a touch of the ball ahead of an Equestria defender before toppling acrobatically to the floor. Free-kick, said the referee, who also pulled out a straight red card, maintaining that a goalscoring chance had been illegally stopped.

Equestria protested. Audioslavia’s players protested the protest. Two more yellow cards were shown.

Audioslavia pressed on against a newly ten-shirted Equestria side and would put the entire game to the sword by half-time. 38 minutes: Zozaia breaks away, gets his shirt tugged very slightly on the edge of the area, takes a pace into the box and then dramatically falls with his arms raised. Another booking for another Equestria defender, this time a second yellow card that reduces Equestria to 9 men.

Rijsbergen scored the penalty to make it 3-1 and would make it 4-1 shortly after, with a shellshocked Equestria failing to change their shape quickly enough to adapt to going to nine men. On forty-five minutes, Gabriel Zozaia’s long-range efforts took two deflections before bobbling in at the corner. 5-1 at half-time. On another day, this could have been 0-0. 2-1 to Equestria would have been fair. 5-1 to Audioslavia was a disgrace to reality.

Substitute Fergus Coren continued his rich scoring form with a cool finish on 78 minutes to finalise the score at 6-2, giving Audioslavia the lead in the group and, importantly for some, securing a tenth Unofficial World Championship title for the Audioslavians.

Home ties against Banija - given the belt after their World Cup 86 win - and Sarzonia - former four-time winners themselves - will be huge tests for the side, whose manager Sean Patterick is persisting with his hitherto ridiculous decision to field a different eleven in every game.

With Spijkers, Knudsen, Rosel, Ceron, Osario and Masiku all involved, this may well be the strongest of the four ‘suits’. At least a tie for the Unofficial Interim Champions against the Official World Champions would do very nicely, thankyouverymuch.

Valanora 4–4 Flavovespia

This 8 goal contest in Capri will go down as one of the most memorable Flavovespian football matches of all time. A contest that on paper should’ve been relatively one-sided, it instead was a real goalfest, with plenty of twists and turns.

Flavovespia went into this game having kept the 4-2-3-1 formation, but lined up in a somewhat more defensive setup. Both David Clark and Murad Ahmed were named as centre defensive midfielders, and James King moved to centre attacking midifield. Alastair Ross also started at the back, after a relatively decent showing as a substitute vs Baker Park. Unfortunately the changes didn’t start off well. Just 8 minutes in, and quick passing by Valanora set Harlem Saxstrom clean through on goal. Her shot was strong, and flew past Aarif Muhammad and into the net. The hosts had the opener, and Flavovespia now had to mount a comeback.

It took only 6 minutes for Flavovespia to find an equaliser. In pretty much their first real attack, a ball over the top played in Scott Coleman. His shot was fired away, but Sean Smørdal got a hand to tip it back away. However Steven Hall was the first to the rebound, and made no mistake from 10 metres out, firing home with relative ease. Valanora’s early lead had been struck off.

Then in the 21st minute, Flavovespia took an unexpected lead. Flavovespia’s first corner was half cleared away, but only as far as David Clark a little outside the box. He took a touch before going directly himself. It didn’t look like the greatest of shots, but it curled onto the post, and bounced off it and over the line. Flavovespia had quickly turned a losing position into a winning position to the surprise of almost everyone in Hatire Memorial, on both sides.

Flavovespia were hoping to hold the lead for as long as possible, but could only hold out for 10 minutes. Valanora made their patient control of the ball play off. Good build up play lead to Thor Møller holding off Tony Gardner, to send a powerful shot goalbound. The ball beat Aarif Muhammad for pace, and nestled into the net. It was 2-2, still with plenty of the first half to play in what was becoming a great game.

On the stroke of half-time, none other than Laborious Hawk gave Valanora the lead once again. A free-kick wasn’t well cleared by Flavovespia, who could only get the ball as far as Hawk lurking just outside the area. He didn’t even wait for the ball to bounce or settle, and unleashed a great volleyed shot. The curve and dip was world class, no goalkeeper was saving that shot into the top corner. 3-2 it was then, as both teams went in for the half-time break.

For much of the second half, the game seemed to have calmed down a little bit. Valanora looked the stronger of the two sides, but at the same time were keen to see out this game with 3 points, and weren’t risking too much. Flavovespia were only able to get forward via counter attacking, but didn’t look out of ideas yet. It was the 74th minute when the next goal came. Jonathan Feld mounted an attack down the left-wing, and sent in a low cross towards Scott Coleman and Steven Hall. It reached neither, but the Valanora defender who made contact with the ball could only watch it deflect off their shin and loop into the goal. 3-3 with a little over 15 minutes to play, and it was all to play for again.

Valanora struck back in the 84th minute. Good passing play saw Valanora Harlem Saxstrom take a good shot at goal. Aarif Muhammad blocked it with a leg, but it flew up into the path of Amalie Nergård. Nergård held off Tony Gardner to head the ball into the net to make it 4-3. Valanora had scored 4 for the second time in the AOCAF Cup 62, Flavovespia conceding the same number the second time in this tournament. With 6 minutes to go plus injury time, the home crowd hoped to get a first win of the Phase 1 group stage.

The final goal came in the final minute of injury time. With a corner, Flavovespia threw everything at it. James King was taking it, but all 10 other Flavovespians were in or around the box, goalkeeper Aarif Muhammad included. The ball was whipped in, and substitute David Lyons was the one to make contact with it. His header wasn’t the most beautiful, but the ball bounced into the ground, and back up, beyond the Valanora players, over the goal line and into the roof of the net. A remarkable game was now 4-4, and the left back had scored his first ever goal for Flavovespia, and a very decisive one at that. Valanora had the briefest of moments to try and score from the kick-off, but a missed pass put the ball out of play, and the final whistle went.

A 4-4 draw meant both teams have 1 point in League A1 after 2 of 6 games. Chromatika won 2-0 at home to Baker Park to go top with a perfect record so far. Chromatika will now travel to St Astons to face off against Flavovespia in Matchday 3. These two teams met once before, in AOCAF Cup 60. Chromatika put 5 past Flavovespia without reply, and the team in yellow and black will remember that and very much want to avoid a repeat.

The Group of Death in any competition figures to be unforgiving. For Sarzonia, losing points against the team ranked immediately above them in the regional rankings placed them in a precarious position.

Sure, the preliminary stage of this 62nd AOCAF is a double round robin, which allows some room for error, but Sarzonia were facing the top ranked team in Atlantian Oceania and one of their rivals inan away match in Banija. The prospect of earning one point from two matches was appearing likely.

However, Brady Reynolds would have none of that. His spectacular bicycle kick goal in the 37th minute would prove to be the only goal of the match and the Stars would escape from Banija with a badly needed 1-0 victory that marked Nicola Mentes's first victory as Sarzonia's manager.

"We were outplayed by Equestria at the Stadium of the Restoration, and then were outplayed this past night by Sarzonia. Simple as that," Banija manager Marcus Waters said after the match.

Waters was left to rue his football association's decision not to arrange friendlies in order to allow him and his team to adapt to new players and a new formation. Mentes also expressed concerns about the Incorporated Football Federation opting not to arrange friendlies, but the Stars seemingly have adapted quickly to their more attack-minded system and new starting goalkeeper Paolo Gomes. Gomes made six saves and only had one shot that he had to display the acrobatics Mentes expected from him.

"I still think we would've benefited from playing friendlies to get ourselves acclimated to the new system," Mentes said. "But these players have played together for the most part and that sped up the learning curve a little."

Sarzonia return to Dave Wilson Stadium in Woodstock for their home fixture against Equestria. The Stars will play two of their last three matches of this preliminary stage of AOCAF LXII away from home, with the return leg against the Kadongo Kamu being the only home match in that stretch. They will face Equestria with four points from two matches, a remarkable accomplishment in the so-called group of death.

"None of these matches are going to be easy," midfielder and team captain Clayton Wilson said. "Expecting otherwise would only set us up for failure."

AOCAF LXII Group Stage 1 Matchday 2

Matchday 2: Chromatika 2-0 Baker Park
Goals: Hauser '19, Gainsbourg '64
Starting XI: Fillar; De Saint-Pierre - Slaven - Ingram - Adams; Winge - Zuniga (C) - Kuznetsov; Hauser; Haggard - Gainsbourg.
Substitutes: Ex -> Kuznetsov ('51), Watt- > De Saint-Pierre ('65), Guess -> Adams ('78)
Sometimes, as a player, you get to pay your teammate back in kind after they carry you.

After a game against Valanora where he was carried by Alicia Gainsbourg and co., Juxon Fillar was at his best against Baker Park, stopping all seven attempts at goal as Chromatika took care of the other top seed in the group by a score of 2-0 and went to claim first place two matches into the First Phase.

Alicia Gainsbourg added the third game of this young campaign, Haley Hauser scored from a set piece, and Chromatika cruised.

Fillar, often touted as the next coming of the likes of Jillian Nier and Nikolai Thorben (maybe Mia Ria if she wins a few more accolades), had been lit up by the Vanorian attack. However, versus the Baker Park attack, he was perfect, often meeting would-be-scorers at the point of attack and robbing them of the opportunity altogether.

Flavovespia will be the last opponent, coming off of scoring four goals against Valanora. Going a perfect 3-0-0 in the first round robin would almost guarantee a top two spot through the end of the first phase.

"We are confident that we'll perform," stated a jubilant Gainsbourg after the match, "The team (notably the attack) has been working well together, and we think that we'll continue."

The better this group does, the brighter the future for Chromatika seems.

III. Lone Embrace

Chracter Profile: ST Qhesseris

Qhesseris is a rather youthful succubus who likes to have a good time. For her, that usually entails having people under her control, albeit willingly.

Born of the Order of the Brahai (one of the most ancient orders of succubi), Qhessseris is a free-spirited succubus who doesn't mind getting her hands dirty if it means furthering her agenda. Though this at times goes against the will of the Unbidden Council, the Brahai are important enough to Unbidden society. At times, she toes the line of going too far - but hasn't, yet.

In the meantime, she'll continue to moonlight as the lone striker on the Yesopalithan team.

Southwestern Rivals Seek Common Ground

There has been news emerging from the capital city over the last few weeks about a potential new twist to the domestic schedule for those in the southwestern corner of Atlantian Oceania, with representatives from Banija, Equestria, Farfadillis, as well as Siovanija & Teusland having been spotted coming and going from the VSC headquarters. With the big news in the summer of the announcement of the new joint league between Farfadillis and Banija, one has to ponder what exactly the implications of these meetings are, with even the rumor of Demot representatives having been seen entering into the building at the same time. That announcement would lead one to believe that a huge multiassociation league like the LigAnia is not in the works, as they would not have announced their own new joint league if there was a larger agreement that was looming just beyond the horizon for the domestic leagues in the southwest. It would be a bit of a public relations and timing nightmare to announce one league only for a season or two down the line be forming another, thus there must be something else afoot.

The information that we have been able to gather is leading to the speculation that there might be some sort of subregional championship being planned out, though if this is true or not remains to be seen. Sources from within the VSC and VFA have said something about a project codenamed the "Heritage Cup" but were not able to confirm if that was indeed an actual name of an upcoming competition nor the exact details of what the competition will entail. What they have been able to provide is that the domestic league champions of the major domestic leagues in the southwest of the region are apparently looking to free up three weeks of their respective preseason schedules for next season. Whatever the nature or name of this competition is, there seems to be significant amount of sponsorship for it, as the teams involved are allegedly going to be given a purse of a million silver coins for merely entering, with the winner being awarded ten million and the runners up being award eight million. With such hefty sums being talked about, there has to be something to the rumors being discussed.

What does this mean for the Premiership and for the common fan? For all intents and purposes, it does not look to do much different than potentially adding a bit of extra money to the champion of the league as well as perhaps getting the holders an extra bit of preparation for the forthcoming season if they are going to be taking part in a preseason tournament. Games against elite opposition, given the stature of the domestic leagues within the southwest of our region, are few and far between and this idea would have those bitter matchups be more common for the champions. For the fans, it is an extra competition to get to see how the best in the Premiership, usually Raynor City United, compares to the rest of the region when not in mid season form as well as more exposure to the clubs in the local area. If this truly does come to pass, it looks to be a win win situation for all parties involved, making the subregion as a whole stronger, even when the rivalries on the pitch are getting ever the more hotly contested.
