Aut-Ves-National Team Recommended Reading
Somehow the Autonomous Vessel Nation won their first game, but not the second. Luigi Firmo scored the goals for their nation’s win. Grand Captain J.J.M. announced he would award the with an honorary promotion to Petty officer second class in the Armed Forces. The Grand Captain noted to onlookers from his deck that “Firmo is a national hero, a rally cry for the supremacy that comes from the freedom of the high seas.” The aforementioned second game was a loss for Aut-Ves-Nat. Iles Rogieres were a respectable and superhuman opponent. The fleshy normal humans of the Aut-Ves-Nat looked like whale blubber. A goal was scored late by Le’Shawna Henderson on a free kick.

In order to advance, the Autonomous Vessel Nation must win against O.T. Sylestone. “I’ll show them a poem,” defender Donny Uzumaki confusingly said when asked about the matchup. The Autonomous Vessel Nation closed itself for vacation bookings in a bid to avoid land dwellers being caught in the crossfire should the team fail. “We will not be eliminated,” the Sergey Ingenious said to on lookers in the middle of the public before carrying a car. “He takes lots of veggies,” the official state media statement stated in a statement to the outside world. The press blurb added that, “Mr. Ingenious is not a robot.”
Aut-Ves-Nat, the greastest sea fearing and/or seafaring nation ever!
All people this vessel are human, ingore any hydraulic fluids.

Postmatch Review - Second Stage: Matchday Two

*Khytonya 2 <--X--> 4 Twicetagaria*

The End of Khytonya's Maiden Tournament

It's all good until the end. Khytonya won't have a chance to qualify for the playoffs thanks to a 2-4 loss against Twicetagaria. 'How did we lose?', all of you lot might say. It's simple, really: they're better than us. By 'us', we meant Khytonya. Two halves ended with the same score as the second matchday against Gallavrynga during Phase 2, only this time take that result and multiply it by 2. You have today's result. But we're not talking about maths here. We're talking about what went on the pitch. Enough talk, let's begin, shall we.

First Half: The floodgates were opened for Twicetagaria to score in the 12th minute, in a form of striker Gioko Hnasverlin with a simple chip over Monahan. Then, in the 18th minute the Sergeants responded with another goal. Another striker Dniebe Herlina dribbled past the Conacher brothers before finishing with a bottom-left goal. Shots after shots after shots kept coming with the back four trying to mend their broken wall. At the same time, Monahan felt a little shaken following those two goals. The match didn't went to Khytonya's favours.

And to add insult to injury, Sakai broke his kneecap due to the impact from Twicetagaria's Juna Tohlhaiyev. For the rest of the game, Neilson will be Liaw's main partner. These little signs suggested that Hartley may need to whip out Plan B: the 4-3-3 attacking formation. It might not save their cruel beating in the 42nd minute as Khytonya were conceded again. Herlina exploited the sloppy defenders' mistake and scored a brace with the help from left midfielder Roy Nikilita.

Second Half: Plan B has been initiated. With Neilson in the pitch, O'Reilly was replaced by his other winger Reinhart. Without a defensive midfielder in charge, the back four were forced to work extra hard while the wide midfielders might need to prepare for averting the ball away while not straying far away from their positions. In the meantime, the Twicetagarians kept piling up enough pressure to burst the defense once again. The wall ruptured in the 55th minute, after Hnasverlin headed the ball from an incoming cross the Sergeants' right midfielder Troniy Sircessev. There was no chance of a comeback with a score like this. Hartley quickly subbed off Monahan to bring back Honma on the field. He never known how his potential superstar would concede goals like this.

Khytonya did eventually cut the lead by two in the 67th and the 70th minute. Liaw added those two goals in his tally with the assistance of the wingers, who moved wide upfield to aid his scoring chance. Once as a hurling volley behind keeper Hinlaiva Kriugistu and again with the ball ricocheting under the woodwork. Another more multiple chances came to him, yet Liaw wasn't able to break the gates guarded by three highly talented back threes. In the end, his brace wouldn't matter as Twicetagaria took home with 3 points in their bag. Khytonya had officially been eliminated from the tournament.

What does it mean?

Hartley sacrificed his key midfielder to fit in a winger. For the rest of the match, defenders struggled to tighten up the wall to prevent any more goals from Twicetagaria. Additionally, many key interceptions were contributed to O'Reilly so the back four had to drive their game further by picking up the pressure that he lifted.
In spite of its loss, Neilson and Reinhart did an impressive job providing Liaw great support. These two wingers were able to outpace the opponent's midfielders and pull off great crosses to keep making those chances. They're quite a treat to watch, especially when the ball was given to them.
After Monahan allowed the fourth goal in, Honma step into the pitch once again. She was able to keep the ball out of the penalty box and stage perfect catches shots, proving that her old form returned in a big way.

Banjia's national arena, the Stadium of the Restoration, will be the final game before Khytonya bid farewell to the AOCAF. They'll be on the away side against Yesopalthia. As for Twicetagaria, they'll look to complete a perfect streak as they face Aji No Moto.

The first eight matches of Sarzonian national team manager Nicola Mentes's tenure couldn't have gone much better thus far.

The Stars won their group in this unique two-phase group stage in Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football LXII and now have officially clinched a spot in the knockout rounds by defeating Valanora 2-1 to improve the Stars to 2-0-0 in this second phase and 4-4-0 overall.

Midfielder Clayton Wilson notched the match-winning goal in the 79th minute as the Vanorian defence focused on taking away striker Jake Campos and midfielder Brady Reynolds as options. Reynolds was held to an assist on the Wilson goal and Campos was held off the scoresheet entirely, but fellow middie Ernie Mabree was able to take advantage of the opening that the focus on Campos and Reynolds gave him. He drew first blood in the 23rd minute with a laser just outside the 18-yard box that beat a diving Vanor goalkeeper Sean Smørdal.

The goal energised the Stars, but it also saw the Vanorians appear to play with a greater sense of urgency. In the same way that Valanora focused on taking away Campos and Reynolds, the Stars devoted much of their tactics toward defending against Laborious Hawk, the seemingly ageless player from the days of Sarzonia's first go-round in international football.

"He was around just after PopPop [Brian Wilson, former Stars striker and manager and previous Incorporated Football Federation chairman and Clayton Wilson's grandfather] retired as a player," Clayton Wilson said. "Hell, I think Grempy [Dave Wilson, former Stars World Cup-winning manager and Clayton Wilson's great-grandfather] managed against him."

Hawk was still able to dent the net behind Stars keeper Paolo Gomes as defender Charlie King pulled down Hawk for a foul called by the Darmeni referee awarded as a direct free kick in the 43rd minute. That sent the teams into the dressing room at halftime level at 1-1. Some teams might have wilted under the pressure of facing one of the sport's elite teams, but Mentes has shown an irreverance toward the task of facing elite teams.

"We just won the group of death," Mentes said. "We earned four points from a possible six against world and region No. 1 and defending World Cup champions Banija and then four points from a possible six against Audioslavia, who are 10th in the region." The Stars also earned two draws against the region's sixth ranked side in Equestria.

The Stars will wrap up the second group stage in preparation for the knockout rounds by facing the fifth ranked team in the region, Baker Park. With the team's position in the knockout rounds already secured, Mentes said he was still sending out the full starting 11 against Baker Park.

"They're still fighting to get in," he said. "If they want to do it against us, they're going to have to earn it against our best players."

It's official. The airlocks are starting to become one-way only, and once entrants are getting thrown out of them, there's no way back. So far we know that of the six ejected, they were all regular entrants. The Champion is still there, waiting, biding their time to try and steal tournament gold from under the noses of everyone else. Floating out in space with no way to win the oldest and most prestigious regional tournament is a terrible way to go, but that's what you get if you go alone into Electrical, after all.

Image

For the top two teams in League A's Groups (Simeone Di Bradini, Sobek Dehena, Karsten Eiger and Solara Vol), there's a direct route to the 'Round of 16' map, and they will all get to skip both a game on the 'Round of 24' map, and even a play-off game to get onto to the Ro24 map in the first place.

Avoiding all the accusations and ejections is great, but it's also a potential mark of The Champion. Banija are the current World Champions and Starblaydia are the reigning, defending, undisputed Atlantian Oceania Champion, and Audioslavia have been World Champions twice, all of which adds up to make the Simeone Di Bradini group seem even more sus than it first appeared. Qasden are also in the group.

Sus, very sus.

Image

At this point, either the cat that makes the gradient maps, or the bull that makes the synthwave scrolling data videos, will have to go to the play offs to play one of the entrants from League C. What are the odds it'll be the winner of the Kristofer Kilpter Group? Well, one in four, of course. Which team from that group could it be? Well, it's kinda one in four, and they're all on three points after two matches.

Come on, guys, just because it was cool earlier in the game doesn't mean it should keep happening.

AOCAF LXII Group Stage 2 Matchday 2

Matchday 2: Chromatika 3-1 Euran Oceania Territories
Goals: Gainsbourg '15, '49, Hauser '68
Starting XI: Fillar; De Saint-Pierre - Slaven - Ingram - Adams; Winge - Zuniga (C) - Kuznsetsov; Hauser; Haggard - Gainsbourg.
Substitutes: Antonucci -> Ingram ('52), Fillar, B. -> Hauser ('70), Lin -> Winge ('77)
Chromatika remained unbeaten in this AOCAF, picking up a 3-1 victory over the Euran Oceania Territories as Alicia Gainsbourg continued her torrid pace of goalscoring with a brace, cementing their position atop the table with a pivotal match against Ko-oren remaining.

The worst that the team could finish is third, and that'd only happen if Hapilopper defeats the Euran Oceania Territories on the final match and the Anomalies lose to Ko-oren. In fact, just a draw versus the Ko-orenites would clinch a top four seed for the Anomalies heading into the knockout stages.

This bunch of U-25 players have really drawn the attention of the nation as they have put aside every challenge with ease (barring the nil-nil draw to Valanora, which in itself is a victory). Some pundits are coming around on the fact that having all four teams (U-18, U-21, U-25, and the Senior Squad) play the same formation (4-3-1-2) is starting to play out. If players are playing one position throughout all phases of their career, it cuts down on the time to adjust to different strategies.

However, all parties are involved are aware of a very important fact: The knockout rounds await, where one off day will end the team packing regardless of record.

So, it is paramount to keep up the momentum. Absolutely.

Oh Sean.

Sean Patterick cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines as the Bulls laboured to another two-nothing AOCAF Cup defeat.

Four years ago, Starblaydia pulled out every trick in the book - plus a number of new ones - in bamboozling the Bulls and taking the 61st AOCAF Cup. This time, Starblaydia confounded Audioslavia simply by playing a brand of football that involved passing to one another and kicking the ball hard into a part of the goal the keeper couldn't reach. The bastards.

Audioslavia are now 2-1-5 throughout AOCAF LXII, their only wins coming against a poor Equestria side, the draw coming on opening day against a Sarzonia side that hadn't yet realised they were actually pretty damned good. Four of Audioslavia's eight matches have been for the Unofficial World Championship. A title win against Equestria followed by no fewer than three defeats against World Champions Banija.

Sean's defence, post-game, was that Audioslavia have yet to face anyone who was, in his words, 'a bit shit. Beatably shit'.

In unrelated news, Audioslavia's final game of phase two comes against a Qasden side who have similarly struggled against the heavyweights of Banija and Starblaydia. The prize for an Audioslavia victory is a minor one - getting to skip one of the knockout rounds, whereas a defeat will see the side take the field against one of the League C teams that, you'd imagine, would fulfil Patterick's description of a team being 'beatably shit'.

But then, this is post-World Cup 76 Audioslavia. The definition of 'beatably shit' has had to be narrowed somewhat.

With five losing performances against some of the competitions better teams, it's looking increasingly likely that, come the end of the competition, Sean Patterick will be bidding his farewells.

To take his place, there are three main contenders. Shamrock's Rohan Cammers could become the second Apoxian to manage the national team, whereas Rook Cathar is rumoured to be coming to the end of his tenure as Caza manager and could be enticed by the national team of the country he's called home for the last decade. Lee Sharp has taken himself out of the running for a second stint at the Audioslavia job, citing the fact that he's 70 and retired and would definitely not be making a comeback (he said with a cough). In terms of Audioslavians, Dragan Kryznjak is unlikely to be enticed by the job, though former national team defender John Lomax has been linked with the job.

In the mean-time, Patterick will drag the carcass of the bull as far up the hill as he can.

Flavovespia 2–2 Pluvia and the Saxean Isles

Flavovespia and Pluvia and the Saxean Isles played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Banija in the first match up between these two sides. Flavovespia will probably be satisfied with a draw, even if some expected a win before kick-off. Pluvia ans the Saxean Isles may see this match as 2 points dropped though. For Flavovespia, it leaves them within touching distance of the Round of 24 with a game to go.

Only one change for Flavovespia, lining up in their yellow and black home colours, after the win over Quebec. Stephen Shepherd came in for David Blythe in the right back position. Their opponents, Pluvia and the Saxean Isles, lined up opposite in their black and white kits.

Initially the game was a tepid affair. Flavovespia were buoyed by their late success over Quebec, but couldn’t turn it into a consistent display in the early stages of this match. It was unusually the attacking trio of Feld, Coleman and Hall, often so reliable, making the early errors, costing the team chances in attack. Pluvia and the Saxean Isles were able to defend easily, but they themselves also had troubles getting forward, Murah Ahmed and James King working very well in the midfield.

It was the first clear cut chance of the game for Flavovespia that brought the first goal of the game. A quick pass out from the back allowed Flavovespia a 3 vs 3 breakaway. Scott Coleman had the ball first, and drew in 2 defenders towards him. That opened the space up for Mark Paul, who received a through ball, which was then slotted past the goalkeeper and into the net. 1-0 for Flavovespia, they’d edged ahead in a close encounter.

Pluvia and the Saxean Isles got an equaliser before half-time however. From a corner, the ball was whipped in to the near post. One of the Pluvia and the Saxean Isles got there first, and headed towards goal. At close range, David Meehan couldn’t get back and across to keep it out, and the equalising goal was scored. One goal piece, and it would remain that way at the break.

The second half nearly saw Flavovespia score less than 3 minutes after play resumed. James King had a free kick from 25 metres out, and his direct effort was tipped away by the goalkeeper, but back into the box. Tony Gardner was the first to the ball, but after his touch, it was jabbed away by a defender, just before Gardner could get a shot away. Close, but not quite enough for Flavovespia to retake the lead.

Despite the efforts of Flavovespia, it was Pluvia and the Saxean Isles who got the first goal of the second half, and the lead. 69 minutes in, and it was a ball through the middle, that a striker could run onto. The first touch was perfect, taking it under control and lining up the shooting opportunity. The shot was perfectly on target, and with enough power to beat the defence and goalkeeper. Pluvia and the Saxean Isles had turned around a one goal deficit into a one goal lead in this game.

Flavovespia now had a little over 20 minutes to try and find an equaliser. Thankfully they only needed 5 to get one. Scott Coleman was again the provider. He had the ball centrally, and was able to take on 2 defenders and got past both of them. He was one on one with the keeper, but pulled the ball back across goal into the path of Steven Hall, who’d beaten the backline as well. Hall was left with an almost empty goal to aim at, and tucked away the shot with relative ease. 2-2 now in this game.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the final quarter hour of the game. The best chance probably fell to Pluvia and the Saxean Isles, but their main striker couldn’t produce a second goal to take the lead, his shot driven straight at David Meehan this time. In the end, it finished all square with two goals each. Flavovespia had some good spells, but Pluvia and the Saxean Isles could’ve easily won with just a bit more clinical finishing, something that does come with time in international football.

In the Xíxì Êns Group, Flavovespia now have quite a simple route to the knockout stages. If Pluvia and the Saxean Isles can’t defeat Quebec, Flavovespia are through to the Round of 24. Should Flavovespia lose and Quebec win, then Flavovespia must only lose by 1, and Quebec win by 1 but score no more than 3 more than Flavovespia, for Flavovespia to qualify. This all becomes academic if Flavovespia don’t lose to Dogsmouth, in that case they win the group. Of course though, Flavovespia will want to win against Dogsmouth, instead of playing for a draw, as it could very well make a difference in the overall ranking of League B sides and the seedings for the Round of 24. Flavovespia must not be complacent however, they’re not through yet. They don’t want to be ejected from the tournament this early on.

Gyat's The Way, Ah-Ha, Ah-Ha, We Like It, Ah-Ha, Ah-Ha
By Rami Niblick in Aissa, Banija

COULD it be? Don't say it too loud, but this may finally be the point at which the Dragons turn the corner and actually play like the big team they say they are. For the third match in a row, Krytenia scored three; this time, however, the defence actually did a thing and managed to not concede.

If anything, the result flattered the Bisons. They set their stall out to attack and cause problems, but it became clear that their formation was writing checks their attackers simply couldn't cash. Captain Ross Green had Gyatso-Kai striker Dag'da Skirata so deep in his pocket that the defender should have been running lopsided from the weight. Krytenia's tactic was simple, but rarely chosen by Jerome Jaffacake-Phillips; be patient, stay calm. The Dragons spent most of the first half allowing their opponents a fair share of the ball but little space. When they did get the ball, it was short passes, quick triangles, and letting the Bisons run around chasing the play like a litter of confused puppies. It was perhaps no surprise, then, that the game was goalless until late in the first half, when Krytenia actually decided to put the pressure on the men in red. Cormac O'Neill's cross-field pass was sublime, finding Neil Smith in an unusually wide position. He slipped the ball back to Joe Bielsa on the overlap, and Bielsa's cross found Apollo Peters drifting in unmarked at the far post to put the Dragons in front.

We'd say at this point that the goal would force Gyatso-kai to chase the game, but to be honest that was what they were doing anyway. As we've seen so often with Krytenia, this sort of play tends to increase the chances of holes opening up in the defence. It was a nice change of pace to see the Dragons as the side taking advantage of these holes for once. Point of note to anyone watching this; never give Alun Belmwr that much space. The Druidan striker had all the time in the world to pick his spot after receiving a Neil Smith pass, and curled an absolute beauty into the top corner to double the lead.

With the Bisons looking spent, and Krytenia comfortable in their lead, the latter part of the game was largely dull; Krytenia still bagged a third though, almost by mistake. Damien Carpenter's long goal kick found Peters, and his flick to release Smith allowed the Stanton man to slot past Zhao Baoli and complete the scoring.

All this leaves our boys in a pretty healty position in the group. All they need to do now to assure themselves of a place in the Round of 24 is to avoid defeat against Demot in Hangaza. If they can do that, then it's the knockouts, and if the Cup of Harmony was anything to go by, anything is possible at that point. Onward!

Another game, Another draw.
Chances hanging by a thread.
It seems we have found our flaw.
And the result is coming that we all dread.

To progress, we need to win.
And hope Iles Rogieres don’t, that simple.
But we won’t if we’re kicking ourselves on the shin.
Our opponents are just like a pimple.

It’s quite obvious we’re going to fail.
Every side has been better than us.
But we certainly are on their tail.
We might be able to get up from under our bus.

We have to beat Aut-Ves-Nat.
At least then we won’t have fallen too flat.

Huayramarca 1–0 Savigliane
Starting Lineup: Notari - LeClerc, Giraudo, Moreau (Garcia 58) - Marchetti, Vatrican, Auvergne (Petit 62), Toscani, Dutto - Squarciafichi (Coste HT), Grimaldi

"A late chance here, possibly the last of the match, as the Swans send all eleven men - including Camillo Notari - forward for this corner-kick. Maybe a late hero will salvage a point from this match, but I highly doubt it. It'll be Toscani to take the corner-kick as the rest of his team jostles for position, Notari casting an uncomfortable glance towards goal. Here's the delivery, Notari heads at it, but it's deflected away, and Huayramarca are on the break-"

It won't be enough for the Swans, who, with Tioguldo's victory, fall into a four-way tie for first, second, third, or fourth place, depending on how you want to spin it. Roundup of AOCAF - Have we found a starting 11?
Article by the Mondown Daily

Banija - Just what is going on?
For many people from North Handoria and playing against North Handoria, the player list has always been a question mark hanging over their heads, because the players looked similar and there has been no official squad list released for the past 8 matches. In fact, the supposed "squad list" has been delayed all the way till Matchday 9 of the AOCAF Double Group Stage, and suddenly there is a promise of a squad list "if they make it into the League C play-offs". Ridiculous? I agree.
But a quick review of the last 2 matches here in Banija has made us even more clear about the team that will play the final match against Savigliane. Who will start that match? Let us list out what we feel should be the starting 11:

Goalkeeper - Thulile Bolkvadze, 30 from Arenes FC
There is little question that the Gothanitan Isles National Team starter will start in goal once again, after trials with various other options didn't turn out as well. Although the defence is in terrible shape, there remains little question about the person who has made some fine saves to prevent worse performances.

Leftback - Jeanette Ross, 27, from Arenes FC
Rightback - Monika Teague, 29, from Arenes FC

The fullback partnership has worked out the best, even though Teague isn't your best rightback in North Handoria. Both ladies have really good understanding of each other to the extent that they can really shore up a defence if they are in form, as seen by the performance against Huayramarca 4 days ago.

Centerback - Harrison Ihejirika, 33, from Bakariksta FC
The veteran defender has made very little mistakes thus far, and has started both matches here in Banija for the second group stage. Though the question about who his partner should be is up for grabs, we think that his experience is necessary to make sure that the defence puts in some form.

Centerback - Lucilla Geary, 26, from Trieste Rangers
We have had enough, and so far, even though she isn't that excellent, at least she works well with Ihejirika. And after all, she needs the experience to show that she can hold up the defence and get herself a place in the World Cup 87 Qualifiers team.

Holding midfielder - Sardar Chaplin, 28, from Arenes FC
We are predicting a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond formation, and our faith is placed on Chaplin over McQueen. Honestly, it is difficult to decide, but ultimately, the decision is because of Chaplin's ability to deal with aerial attacks, which is lacking in the defence as a whole. Hopefully, she won't disappoint.

Left midfielder - Grigorii McCrory, 29, from Arenes FC
Right midfielder - Margareta Campbell, 27, from Trieste Rangers

McCrory has shown his ability to play in a 4-man midfield position, being the left winger for the national team. On the other hand, Campbell's uncanny ability to be in the correct place at the correct time for Trieste Rangers was why she was selected in the first place. When she can do it she will do it, but ultimately she isn't showing her true abilities thus far in the competition. With everything on the line, hopefully she will present a nice performance and ensure that the team can steal a surprise win. If not, we can always call on Hellina City's Francesca Read to see if he presents the stability necessary for the position.

Attacking midfielder - Chloe Brewster, 30, from Arenes FC
A tough call here, we have decided that Brewster gets to keep her place. I mean, what more can we as from her? Despite lacking creativity thus far in the AOCAF, she has been contributing some shots that often irritated opposition keepers. Not to mention her pace. If anything, she still remains as the first choice for North Handoria in this position.

Striker - Lola Katona, 23, from Arenes FC
Heino Steffensen, 32, from Trieste Rangers

Pace + Experience is what we think is missing, and although they have not played with each other before, from training sessions, we think that they have the potential to spark some fireworks. Steffensen goes for the really stable goals, while Katona gives people the feeling of excitement as he utilises his pace and insane ball-handling skills to run past defenders. We would really rely on the both of them's combined abilities to decide what this result is.

Prescott vows "nothing held back" in final group match
Scott McCrae
The Mail on Sunday National Soccer Writer

After another sub-par performance in the 2-2 draw against Northwest Kalactin, leaving the Commonwealth National Team at the bottom of the standings in the Solara Vol Group, Manager Jennifer Prescott made it clear that the third consecutive match will not go without all stops pulled out to earn a win.

Sarzonia will be the final opponent at the Olympic Stadium; after defeating Valanora, they sit atop the group with 2 wins from two played, guaranteed a place in the knockout stages as no worse that group runner-up.

The Vanorians & Northwest Kalactin will meet up with plenty left to play for, as the difference between finishing in the group in third or fourth place is huge; in short, the fourth place side will have to play an extra match, against one of the four League C Group winners—on the road—with the winner advancing as one the four bottom seeds in the 24 team elimination round.

The Stars and BP have faced one another on the lacrosse field often over the past several years, but this will mark the first time the nations will line-up against one another in soccer. While the Commonwealth have struggled to find form, Sarzonia have cruised through the first 8 matches.

Prescott will go with a lineup she believes is potentially the most offensive minded selection she can field in hopes of finding early scoring, but said she would not hesitate to make changes as situations arise.

Tiffany Moss, the defender who plays for Vermillion Wanderers in Nephara who is making her first ever international appearances during the AOCAF at age 33, will lead the team as captain following a players-only meeting where a secret ballot was taken to determine who would wear the armband. Also, the FAC made a declaration that they will opt for their change strip, with black shorts paired with white shirts in another surprise.

Lineup vs Sarzonia:
Johnston; Moss (C), Freeman, Bauer; Rizzo, Gutierrez, D'Amico, Reynolds; Craig; West, Laing

The Prelude 2 ¬ Second Stage: Final Matchday

We're still here, huh? Good. Because there's one final game to play, and it's the one with the weirdest, most mythical players mankind has ever witnessed: Yesopalthia. After winning 1-0 to Aji No Moto, they'll be in the playoff contention should they take home with another three points. Khytonya can't just leave Banija because of the loss. They still need to finish one match before going home. One last haul before their work is done. No use turning back to the hour that already happened. You know what we mean, right? Alrighty, then. Let's see where the squad starts.

Image

Plan B is now the new Plan A. Without Sakai in the lineups, the two wingers from the subs are pushed to the starting XI, appropriately due to their previous game's impressive play. Neilson and Reinhart will be in charge of supplying Khytonya's captain the scoring chances and control the wide area to push out any unlucky full backs. Williams and Matthews are still required to press forward, this time they're now played as central midfielders. These decisions leave O'Reilly to take up the mantle and fulfil the promise of every teammate since he is a de-facto 'captain' of the back four.

Returning to the lineups is Honma. The main keeper is installed back after a nightmarish game from Monahan. Thanks to her brilliant saves and great sense of bravery, Honma returns as the Magical Bhoys' main guardian of the net. On the other hand, Boucher becomes Williams's replacement. It's purely Hartley's choice seeing that he can't have both midfielders who can do only one job. The 4-3-3 formation forced him to pick only one, and O'Reilly is eagerly needed in such an offensively-minded formation.

Yesopalthia are due to start with a hungrily defensive 4-5-1 formation. It's a closing game for all Khytonians out there, but better to lose gracefully than to win crookedly. Here's a health to those who will fight until the very end.
Just your friendly kid from the island!

Herlina and Tohlhaiyev: Who's the better captain?

If we're going about on talent definitely Herlina but I think Tohlhaiyev has the more demanding and more imposing aura which can be very beneficial.

They both deserve the captaincy... Though I'd give it to Tohlhaiyev. He seems like a really strong figure especially in defense as opposed to Herlina

Juliasterinthen's XI failed to impress even during the second phase and are now seeded decently high in the Round of 24. In this round, the Dragonflies run into old rivals Gyatso-Kai, of World Cup of Hockey renown. The final game against Chromatika also didn't provide much entertainment, and so Ko-oren have delivered almost nine straight unremarkable games. This takes us back to the World Cups of the late 70s, where the team failed the qualify for a few consecutive World Cups, didn't perform that well in the Cup of Harmony, and were still building up their status in the AOCAF. From the earliest highs of the 60s to mid 70s (nine World Cup qualifications in twelve attempts, including five knockout appearances), it's taken the team until now to get back to that high. In fact, Ko-oren are sitting on the four consecutive World Cup appearances - a joint record with the class of 69-72 - but all good things must come to an end.

National team staff has been experimenting with the selection criteria, the formation, and the roles in it for a while to find that perfect mix. In all of the last several cycles, they found that mix at some point in the qualification stage, or the AOCAF group stage, leading to a good finish and some upsets further down the line. Have we seen the peak of this generation? Two signs point to the fact we have:

1) No longer selecting the behemoths of this generation
Reizo Yokota was the key to all four qualifications - and even some big moments before then. The defensive midfielder played an instrumental role in linking defence and attack and was a great captain to boot. Without him, Juliasterinthen has to find that new key role or position - and the two wide midfielders don't seem to be it. Vallotton, starting striker in several World Cups, was also left off the team sheet, and the same went for Dennis Lampshire. Missing these three mentally and physically strong players leaves a vacuum that so far nobody jumped into.

2) Style over results
The staff, starting with the head coach, but including the assistants Davenport, Varela, Schoppe, as well as the selectors Weleman, Steenbok, and Yahiro, have prioritised finding a great mix of player personalities over finding the best players to record good results. They are also making the 5-3-2 happen even without much of a (central) midfield, basically, anything as long as the 5-3-2 can be maintained on paper. What happened to the team and the staff that wanted results over anything? That wasn't afraid to select a few bad apples as long as they lit a fire under the rest of the squad? And that made bold choices to get upsets wherever possible?

Whether this is a meltdown as we've seen in the late 70s, or whether we're just in a lull waiting for a glorious resurgence, I'm not sure yet. The influx of young players to take the roles of the ones who left is stronger than ever, with Kaplan, Betteridge, Aiamara, Vashila, Moore, Wickham, Fiallo, yCinrhadd, and arguably Watanuki and Ebina. It's unfortunate that there is no NT-ready defensive midfielder right behind Yokota, sure. And we could get a very decent Di Bradini Cup lineup from the players selected to the 'adult' national team, sure. We need results, and we need them now - for a football system the size of Ko-oren's it's a shame that we can't get a top 10 AOCAF team together even in a bad year.

Even the football pyramid is better than ever. Ko-oren's still climbing on the IFCF coefficient list (and probably will continue to do so for the next two to three cycles) to potentially a top 15 (or even 10!) position. Clubs are spending more money than before, finding better players locally and internationally, and our talents from the academies and universities find employment and (more importantly) starting jobs at clubs in the first and second division (which now has promotion to the first division!) as well as abroad. We have starters at all the big clubs - 1830 Cathair, Izotz Zubia, mid-table Nepharan teams, Euran CC candidates... but hopefully, the biggest factor among them is that promotion/relegation into the Top League.

And so, the Greenblues are in the Round of 24, versus Gyatso-Kai. Nothing's lost yet - a win here and the cycle will at least be unremarkable, but not plain bad. A top 16 finish is not exactly what we hoped for, but you'll take the bad with the good. And hey, two wins from here on out isn't completely unrealistic and a quarterfinal appearance is pretty much what we hoped to get anyway. It's just that the nine games leading up to here weren't up to snuff. At all.

Postmatch Review - Second Stage: Final Matchday

*Yesopalthia 0 <--X--> 2 Khytonya*

A Happy End for the Magical Bhoys

Even if the pain from the last game can't be washed away completely, there is always the end of the storm. A silver lining, if we say so ourselves. With two last goals shipped across the goal line, Khytonya went home cheerily while waving goodbye to the fans who supported them no matter how harsh the results are. This win here gave them a record of three in wins, draws, and losses, with a winning percentage of exactly 50%. It's crazy to think Khytonya played 9 games and gave an equal record of these three stats. They say bad things come in threes. Three black cats, three musketeers, three blind mice, and of course three wins, three draws, and three losses. Funnily enough, three wins actually came from each third game of the tournament. The football gods must've had a good laugh seeing something as barmy as this. Now that we got this statistical nonsense out of the way, let's tackle this finale of the game.

First Half: The game started slowly with both sides trying to build up enough power to unleash a play. There were signs and indications that an attack was looming around, but none came to fruition. The first registered shot occurred at long last, with striker Qhesserris volleying her ball gently straight into Honma's hands. Still, it returned to a boring kind of football. The atmosphere was loud in the Stadium of the Restoration, but the product on the field resembled cricket more than anything. Even baseball was more entertaining than that snoozefest.

Nonetheless, Yesopalthia controlled the field, if only by a small margin. A few shots from both sides seemingly went wide to the stands, and a few more were on target. The defenders kept intercepting every pass conceivable. If it wasn't broken through yet, Honma and the opponent's young keeper A'th'l Mik'o'si pushed the ball away to either force a corner or just to clear it away before any more rebounds were made (which is mainly the cause of these total shots). Overall, nobody went to smash the scoreless deadlock. Not until the other half began...

Second Half: As the referee blew his whistle again, Yesopalthia's midfielder Bizaak Kelia carried the ball across the field and wait for his striker to pounce into the box and open the gates. Luckily for Khytonya, their back four moved in unison so the attack can be canceled via offside. The plan worked and Qhesserris had her goal disallowed just before she began celebrating with her teammates. Mik'o'si went to have a drink not knowing the moment Honma restarted the play, she lobbed the ball to Neilson and dribble in the wide-area before Liaw completes the play to give Khytonya a goal in the 56th minute. All from the unaware mistake from the Yesopalthian keeper.

Another goal would come 20 minutes later. This time, it was Neilson who notched the lead by two after firing the ball to the top right post. After that, all that Khytonya need was to hold the lead until the end. They never agreed with the idea of leading the score by two would be dangerous, not even when the defenders slacked around the field. On the other hand, Yesopalthia struggled to score due to chance denial coming from the latter constantly marking every attacker possible. At the end of the match, Khytonya can proudly smile while heading home as they beat Yesopalthia 2-0.

What does it mean?

Continuing from the previous game, Neilson and Reinhart still provided better chances to Liaw, who proved to be just as great of a one-man show as a partner to Sakai. In fact, both of them provided 8 of the 11 attempts. Perhaps they are good wingers after all.
For the first time since the AOCAF began, Khytonya won the match in which they didn't concede. Moreover, the Magical Bhoys lead the way in stats with 19 shots attempted compared to Yesopalthia's 6.

Khytonya's journey ends placing 2nd in the Fortin Group, with their opponents finishing below them. Twicetagaria head to the playoffs to face Euran Oceania Territories.
Just your friendly kid from the island!

Bulls Slain by MII-DIX

An Aldous Greene corner, a Rufus Lester header, and Audioslavia are consigned to rock bottom League A1. Having started the phase believing we were going to become an eleven-time Unofficial World Champion, we are ending it after three defeats, zero points, zero goals scored and looking at a playoff with Anthor to decide whether or not we make the playoffs.

This may be the lowest point in Sean Patterick's international managerial career. Though there are a number of contenders for that position.

AOCAF Cup 60. Patterick's fifth game in charge. After two draws and two wins, with two goals scored and zero conceded, Audioslavia are shithoused off the park by lightly regarded Eura Oceania Territories in the first knockout stage, with Patterick held accountable for the loss due to his inability to make the necessary changes or react to what was happening around him.

The first half of qualifying for World Cup 85. Losses to Jeckland, Astograth, Turori and Natanians and Nosts which could have cost the Bulls a place in the finals were it not for a late fightback and an eventual Astograthi capitulation. In the finals, an utter disaster of an opening game saw the side lose to 95X and require two miracles in their last two games, of which only one materialised. Qualifying for World Cup 86 was a constant struggle, before an opening-day draw with Kandorith all but ended the Bulls' realistic chances at making the knockouts. The side crushed Baker Park by five goals to three in the final game, but it was already too late. Defeat to Turori expelled the Bulls in the first round again.

Reaching the AOCAF Cup final in cycle 86 should really be a point in Patterick's favour, but the manner of their defeat to Starblaydia - in which Audioslavia were out-Audioslaviad by their local rivals - put a sour taste on the entire tournament for most fans.

And now. Eight games. Draw. Win. Loss. Loss. Win. Loss. Loss. Loss. Loss. Our all-time record against Starblaydia is no longer a winning one. Our record against Banija drops from 0-0-1 to 0-0-4. The Bulls started Patterick's tenure as a footballing has-been whose reputation in the international game had fallen from 'Oh fuck it's Audioslavia' to 'oH fUcK iT'S aUdIoSlAvIa'. All Patterick has done, over the course of two cycles, has managed to rearranged which letters are toggled.

Whether or not Audioslavia can defeat Anthor and make the knockout stage proper, it appears Patterick's long and... long tenure as national team boss is coming to an end.

Rohan Cammers, who has since become the bookies favourite to replace the beleaguered Audioslavian, has so far refused to comment. Speculation that he may jump down from the stands, push Patterick out of the way and just start managing the team, contract or no, are rumoured to be 'probably unfounded'

Ejections. So many ejections. 20 of the 48 entrants found themselves dumped out of the airlock, with some 14 fresh bodies in the cold vacuum to add to the six already removed on the previous matchday. It was an utter slaughter, and gives us some tasty one-on-one play-offs before the brand new Round of 24 map. _F_ in chat for all of the following:

Image

So who are we down to? All sixteen teams in Group A collected into the various legend hat tips are still in it, although we now get to see the poker faces of four of them as they face off in direct PVP against the League C winners.

Image

The only one of those League C winners who managed to dropp down from League B at the end of the first phase, but rescue themselves by winning League C is...

Image

So they're definitely sus.

There's more to secretly being The Champion than winning Leagues, having amazing matches and being notable for either competence or incompetence. Some Champions sneak their way through, stalking in the shadows without drawing any attention to themselves. Some of these entrants simply haven't been featured in the Aocaf Us spotlight before, so we wanted to highlight them, because they're all 100% sus: Hap, BP, Dogs and Galla.

Kristofer Kilpter Player Profile

Postby Vilita and Turori » Sun Nov 15, 2020 6:33 pm

V&T SPOTLIGHT: KRISTOFER KILPTER

Very few singular players embody the spirit of modern footsport in Vilita & Turori more than Kristofer Kilpter. One of - if not the only recognizable players to have spanned the Original Era into the Modern Era, Kilpter was not the first player who was eligible to play for both Vilita and Turori - but he was perhaps one of the most famous. While Kilpter declared to play for Vilita by default through World Cup 57 when the Island Emirate of Turori did not compete in the Internationstatal Level Qualifying rounds, he was an integral part of what would become the Cove regions first sporting dynasty of the modern era.

Kilpter was the first name on the roster when Vilita & Turori unified for AOCAF Competitions and due to the expected stardom of the young players future, Kilpter would come to epitomized the unification movement in Vilitan & Turorian sport. A dual national, Kilpter was selected as a trainee player in the spirit of the new agreement between the Vilitan and Turorian FA, whereby the AOCAF tournament would be used to help develop young talent of both nations, but also allow older players who wish to continue playing in the tournament to do so in a similar format to that used to determine rosters for the Olympic Games.
Image

After being a part of the very foundation of the Vilita & Turori unified sporting movement, Kilpter would also deliver some of its most memorable moments. The resurgence of the Eel-Cat Things was in Full Force when Vilita & Turori reached the 41st AOCAF Final in The Inevitible Syndicate. Their opponents would be a fierce one - Audioslavia. The very nation that Vilita had beaten to win the World Cup 20 title but also the same nation that had knocked Turori out at the World Cup Quarter Final stage virtually every cup during the 20's. Which half would be powering the Vilita & Turori effort on that day?

That question would be answered by none other than Kristofer Kilpter. It was the first major competition final of any kind for Vilita - or Turori - or both combined since the AOCAF 19 Final in Bettia. It was the game that would ultimately define a generation and bring hope back to the Vilitan Cove region. It would lead to more trophies, more commercial investment from major companies like the Vilisorma Beverage Company and CoCoCo Entities. It would lead to Vilita becoming a record five-time World Cup Champion and Turori finally breaking their long held barrier of having never made it past the World Cup Quarter finals.

And it was all off the foot of Kristofer Kilpter. Having become one of the teams Veteran players, Kilpter was on the bench as Nili Ylimaiina and Enluta Makakio got the start up top for the Eel-Cat Things. It looked for a while that Makakio's 37th minute goal would give Vilita & Turori their first AOCAF Title of their generation until Vucidini Zekani equalized for Audioslavia in the 90th minute.

In Extra Time it was the youngster Lopaki Kilpter who connected with their namesake Kristofer climbing highest to make contact with Lopaki's cross and heading past Audiolsav hero Kajaxo Imaslavii to restore the Eel-Cat Things advantage. Viltia & Turori would hold on for the final 17 minutes of Extra Time to claim the AOCAF 41 Championship - the first title of any kind in the modern era of Vilita & Turori footsport. It was Kilpter who delivered it to them with the Game Winning goal in the AOCAF 41 final - a moment that is still immortalized in the Vilitan Footsport hall of fame at the Tivali Ring Stadium in Alikki-Corra.

As for his career with the Vilitan National Team and in Domestic sport, Kilpter netted 4 times during the debut World Cup 57 campaign but missed three matches due to an undisclosed injury. After struggling to win silverware with the Yeaddin Owls, Kilpter made the Largest Transfer in V-League history (12.7 kT) to Turorian side Cednia Beach. The transfer was more than double the 4.5kT previous transfer record in the Vilitan League, which was also payed by Cednia Beach to Yeaddin (for Antonis Siazzu). The struggles continued for Kilpter in the hunt for Silverware as Cednia Beach simply could not get over the hurdle, either in the V-League or in the UICA Champions League. Cednia Beach recouped their transfer fee in dishing Kilpter out to East Franz Athletic in the Polar Islandstates prior to Season 33. A rejuvenated Kilpter received praise for his performances in the Polar Islandstates while Cednia Beach would go on to miss out on Champions Cup qualification for the first time. Kilpter's international career has bolstered since his departure from the Tropics, having regained his place in the side for World Cup 64 Qualifying in a 3-player rotation with Erocka Lorei and Viji-mara Lawaai.

Kilpters last full-time season with the National Team was World Cup 68. While Kilpter played a bit-part role in the squad throughout Qualification and the Finals, the Jungle Cats strong run culminated with an appearance in the World Cup 68 Final against the Free Republics. The team turned to the Veteran Kilpter who started the match and played an important role in the Tropics of Vilita's 2nd all-time World Cup Triumph and the first in 48 cycles - the longest ever gap between two World Cup titles for a single nation. After earning more silverware during the Cup of Champions tournament, Kilpter would make their last appearances for the Vilita National Team at the 5th Eagle's Cup competition. Kilpters last appearance for the National Team would be as a 73rd minute substitute in a 3-3 draw on Matchday four while their last National Team goal would come on the tournaments opening matchday netting the first goal in a 2-2 draw also against Bedistan.

After retiring as a player, Kilpter would take on duties as a manager for the famed National Team of Rejistania for their return in Runner Cup 4. Unfortunately, questionable officiating in the Nation of Patistan saw Rejistania eliminated despite having suffered just 1 defeat in the group stage. The disappointing result saw the Rejistanian Football Association opt against entering the World Cup and Kilpter returned to Vilita & Turori to serve as a Coach and Consult to the Vilita & Turori Eel-Cat Things.

As one of the first inductees to the Vilita & Turori Regional Sporting Hall of Fame, Kristofer Kilpter is recognized by the Vilita & Turori Eel-Cat Things every season they compete as they continue the tradition of unveiling their uniforms for any competition using Kilpter's name and associated #43 on the kits used for the Unveiling.

While Kilpters tremendous impact particularly on the regional level setting the stage for the Combined Vilita & Turori side that would even at times be crowned as Unofficial Champions of the Multiverse through the Lineal World Cup Belt, the namesake "Kristofer Kilpter Group" contested during AOCAF 67 consisted of a number of unheralded newcomers to the regional scene - perhaps each looking to make a name for themselves much like Kilpter did with Vilita & Turori so many seasons ago. At the end of the day two nations - Savigliane and Tioguldos - shared the top spot with 6 points with Savigliane earning the tiebreaker to advance through to the Playoff Round. Savigliane advance to a Playoff against Northwest Kalactin to determine which of the teams will advance to the AOCAF Round of 24.

There's a saying that all good things must come to an end.

Such is true of the unbeaten streak for Sarzonian national team manager Nicola Mentes started his career as the manager of the Navy and Silver with.

With Baker Park playing for a chance to avoid a play-in match in the knockout rounds of this uniquely formatted Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football LXII, they came out motivated for the full three points. Sarzonia, meanwhile were playing merely to punch their tickets as the Solara Vol group winners, an accomplishment that would give the Stars a bye into the Round of 16.

Mentes played his normal starting 11, except for sending on reserve goalkeeper Carlton Sandt for his first action of this AOCAF to start the second half. Starting keeper Paolo Gomes conceded both Baker Park goals in the first 45 minutes of play. Holly Cambrio scored Sarzonia's only goal in the 47th minute as she gave Jake Campos a breather.

Even though it was his first loss as Sarzonia manager, Mentes was rather sanguine about the defeat.

"For one thing, we still earned a top four seed and a double-bye directly into the Round of 16," he said. For another thing, "we got an opportunity to get Carlton Sandt playing time so we're confident he can be ready if he's called upon."

Midfielder and team captain Clayton Wilson also pointed out one thing Mentes studiously avoided during his initial remarks.

"It would've been a lot more painful for our first loss to come in the knockout rounds," Wilson said. "We're glad to have gotten it out of the way now so it doesn't put on any more pressure than we already have."

The Stars advance directly to the Round of 16 with Valanora after the elves dispatched Northwest Kalactin to the one-match playoff with a dominant 4-0 victory that drew the Marauders level with the Stars on points. Sarzonia are group winners due to their 2-1 head-to-head victory over Valanora.

Midfielder Brady Reynolds sat out the second half in orders to give him rest and to give depth player Erik Swann an opportunity to play significant minutes. Mentes said Sarzonia's play throughout the tournament has largely kept Swann on the substitutes' bench.

"We haven't really needed a late-match spark offensively thus far in this tournament," Mentes said. "We've been playing well against some quality opponents."

Reynolds was seen in a heated exchange with Mentes, but both downplayed the incident.

"Brady doesn't like to sit," Mentes said. "He's a fierce competitor, probably as close to a [Delaclava captain] Keaton Durbridge as we have on our squad." Reynolds smiled when he heard Mentes drop Durbridge's name.

"I take that comparison as a compliment," he said.

.:: From the ASPN Blog After Thoughts in a Blip ::.
1940 hours, 16 November 2020.3

Yep, I'm back. If you saw my last blog, you will know that I was not at my computer for the last few days, having taken a trip for the birthday to go to a medieval faire and drink, party, and celebrate surviving another trip around the sun! The Spirits blessed me so far in 2020, and I can only hope they continue to bless me both in 2021 and for my 34th year on this planet.

Fingers crossed, offerings made, let's get to it!

Well haran, the Bisons actually advanced! I never thought I'd see us do that again! Having not done that since World Cup LXVI, and not once since The Silence, the Bisons have achieved something they have yet to do in recent times. Sure, we advanced into the Round of 24 thanks to a 1-0 victory over Netop on Matchday 3, as we tied them in the Keira Andisori Group at 1-1-1 and just 4pts... which to be fair, no one expected us to beat Krytenia, seeing as how they shut us out 3-nil on the second matchday.

Let's be honest... Other than a two-game winning streak, this tournament hasn't been the best for the boys, but it certainly looks better than tournaments past...

Our AOCAF 62 record is 3-3-3, with wins over Oontaz Dert Li Ng and Salstead in Phase One, and Netop in Phase 2. Our draws and losses were spread out in the field - with us drawing a team in one leg, only to lose on the other, and in Phase Two, we drew Demot then got shutout by Krytenia, and squeaked a single goal by Netop and got through to the next round.

Speaking of next round... who do we face?

Well... It isn't the best choice of an opponent. The Dragonflies of Ko-oren, which, if you know your multiverse sports, are our perennial rivals in Hockey. We have only faced them once before in football, and you have to go ALL THE WAY back to the Fifth Market Cup, hosted by Ipeland, held in January 2011.1, where the fresh-faced Bisons in only their second multiverse tournament faced off with the Dragonflies and suffered a 5-1 defeat in a tournament in which the Bisons would end with a 1-0-3 record, and the Dragonflies would go on to face the Equestrian States in the Final, going to 3-3 in regulation, then 4-4 in AET, only to lose the tournament in penalty kicks at 2-1.

Of course, neither one of our teams are anything resembling those teams of distant wonderyears past, so you're not going to get much of a comparison from me. Instead, look to the Dragonflies recent success; first place in AOCAF 60, Round of Sixteen finishes in three of the last seven World Cups, as well as a Third Place Finish in the Cup of Harmony. This is the 14th Best Ranked Team in the Multiverse, and the 9th in AOCAF. This is not an easy opponent, and if the Spirits some how trip them up and we can outscore them...

I'll be sober for a week!

Wait What

By Tomathan Hammerland

BUSEMBE- Alright, kittens, gather around. It's time to tell the tale of how Qasden stunned Audioslavia with the power of DIX.

Going into the second phase, the NewVans, high off of a lucky promotion over Gyatso-Kai in League B, were about as ready to battle the regional titans as a guy with a water gun against the freaking sun, eager but doomed beyond all doubt. The Simeone Di Bradini Group, named after the multiversally-acclaimed Starblaydian, proved to be that challenge. The first was, fittingly, against Di Bradini's homeland: The Reigning Champions of AOCAF. The Vans would obviously lose the match, though much closer than anyone imagined at a mere 0-1. The next match would essentially be like facing the Starblaydians again, but on a copious amount of steroids, taking on the hosts and World Champs, both official and unofficial, Banija. Again, the team of newbie Vans would be stomped on, this time at a score of 0-2; yet somehow, they still technically weren't the worst team in the group. Audioslavia, nefarious northeasterner and last regional's maid of honor, discovered very quickly that forcefully combining their best players from 4 separate Phase 1 squads would be meaningless against the literal 1 and 2 of Atlantian Oceania, losing to Bans and Starbs both 0-2. Unlike Qasden, however, the Bulls were good enough in Phase 1 of the tournament to gain the UWC title, beating Banija on Matchday 3. Sure, they would immediately lose it to the soon relegated Equestrians afterwards (who, in turn, gave it back to Banija, keeping the damn thing ever since), but at least they can say they had it recently. Like Banija and Starblaydia, Audioslavia justifiably crossed Qasden off from being a threat to their game, seeing as we're the group's Pot 4 and the 11-space gap in rank between us.

The match, taking place in a stadium that once had former-AM Zachary Sols as its' manager, proved to be both dull and absolutely shocking on all levels. I would've explained this match more, but I spent all that time reporting about the stuff we already knew. As a surprise, the Vans held their ground against Sean Patterick's squad; and to an even bigger surprise, a corner kick from Aldous Greene would lead to the Qasden's first and only goal in the group, being claimed by the ninth defender, Rufus Lester, out of all people. Indeed, thanks to the change in locale and the strong head of DIX, the Vans would stave off the clearly superior Audioslavia to claim an acceptable 3rd place, a spot that means both so much and so little going into the knockouts. Following a quick set of play-ins between League C's winners and League A's leftovers, the Round of 24 was set, pitting every team seeded 9-24 against each other in different parts of Banija. Among the eight matches stands 4 that I felt the odd need to highlight with the weird map graphics readers like for some reason.
Image

Who would've thought these two would meet again so early in the knockouts? This match features the powerful ponies of Equestria against the raging bulls of a possibly rebounding Audioslavia in the somewhat-but-not-really diverse city of Hoima. The storied duo had already met in Phase 1 of the tournament, exchanging wins/losses and the UWC title between each other in the double round robin before the former's untimely descent into League B. During their time in the Ezio Grassi Group, the Ponies went on an absolute rampage, decimating the most talented squads from Freeport and Lochario, becoming 1 of only 2 second phase teams to finish with 3 wins. While Audioslavia didn't have as successful of a Phase 2, they did prove their effectiveness in the play-ins, beating Anthor 2-1 in decisive fashion. Despite their close history and rank, the results of this match will greatly impact the scope of the Round of 16 due to their given seeds. Should 9th-seed Equestria win, an Octofinal meet with the Busoga Islands would be all but certain, but should the 24th-seed Bulls win, then the top seed Eel-Cat Things will be their next opponent. Regardless, this is a knockout to watch.

*- At this current time, there is no map from AO Cartography that depicts Twicetagria. However, the latter's claims have led to the speculation of their location being somewhere in West Azeruia north of Demot. This map of them is not legitimate, but the best the graphics guy could do in such short notice.

Damn these countries are huge; Why can't everyone be smol like Nellietopia? Anyways, the next highlighted matchup features the recent Cup of Harmony champions and former self-loathers, Krytenia, taking on the only Phase 2 League C team to survive the Play-Ins, Twicetagria. The only nation where the color cyan is observed as a national fetish, Krytenia had a pretty strange journey in the AOCAF so far, falling out of Group A4 in Phase 1 (internationally agreed upon as the most insane group at the time). Of course, like Equestria, the Dragons (I think?) learned nothing about the woes of relegation as they, too, threw several partially-opened cans of whoop-ass at their bunkmates in the Keira Andisori Group (with the notable exception of Netop, who caught the can and crushed it with one hand, unnerving the Kryties a bit). At the end of it, the Cyan-lovers took the 10th seed of the tournament, a stone's throw away from a match with Hapilopper in the Octos. Their opponent, however, is one to be somewhat feared, as well. Twicetagria, like their opponent, started off in a rough patch, losing 3 matches in their Phase 1 League B group before ultimately being relegated. Despite the setback, the Sergeants got things done quickly in the Zachary Fortin Group of League C, claiming the play-in spot early over tough challenges from Khytonya, Yesopalitha, and Aji No Moto. It would be in the play-ins where the Twicetagrians would shine brightest, however, as they triumphed over the Euran Oceania Territories in extra time, becoming the only team from League C to survive the Play-In purge. Now they come to prove their wits once again, but will they be able to handle the ominous Krytenia?

Ok good, some smaller nations for a change. Taking a turn from the League B Winners vs Play-In survivors, a match to possibly watch would be that between the 14th-seeded Baker Park and the 19th-seeded Tropicorp. As the Commonwealth responsible for Jon Merritt's departure from Qasden, Baker Park has so far served as a strong contender in the tournament (a runner-up in Phase 1's League A), but not as strong as they could be. In the Solara Vol Group of Phase 2, The Bees or whatever narrowly avoided the Play-Ins after a close victory over the group's winners, Sarzonia, instead giving the last place to Northwest Kalactin. As the region's #5, it can be easily assumed that Baker Park will just mosey along into the Round of 16 (with no upsets above them leading to a meeting with shockingly terrifying Chromatika), but it would be just plain rude to brush aside the Techies like that. Tropicorp's performance so far has been both great and not so great at the same time. In Phase 1, Tropicorp tied for first on points with a resounding 10, only missing out on promotion due to their head-to-head results with the group's eventual winner, Hapilopper. Trying again, this time in the Ronnie van Rijn group, Tropicorp again missed marks, drawing Siovanija & Teusland and losing to the Sultanate of Oontaz. However, a win on matchday 1 against Osarius kept the engineering-obsessed team in play for the knockouts. Speaking for a team that has lost to both in knockouts, it'll take a lot from either side to overcome the other in Jinja City.

*- Like Twicetagria, there is no map provided by AO Cartography showing Gallavrynga's exact location within the region. Since the country has yet to state their whereabouts, would be it wrong to assume they're but figments of our collective imaginations? Well of course it'd be wrong, ask the teams that played them. Anyways, we just took the cartographer's logo and gave it a green-black gradient for Galla.

Of course we we're gonna talk about our own match; we're not "Qasden Athletic News" for nothing! To finish out our map highlights, we move our eyes over to the closest match of the Round of 24 (seed-wise, anyways) between the Vans of the River's End and the Lionhearts of the Parts Unknown. Yes, we're previewing Qasden versus Gallavrynga, an unlikely match made all the more likely by actually happening. We've talked about Qasden enough for one report, so let's put the spotlight on Gallavrynga for a bit. The Lionhearts, led by former player, Isaac Longwood, debuted in international competition in Phase 1 of this very tournament, playing against the likes of Khytonya, North Handoria, and Anthor. Unranked and unassuming, Gallavrynga shocked just about everyone by going 3-0-0 right off the bat, slowing down in the latter 3 just enough to tease the promotion to League B in front of their groupmates before skirting off to the Ezio Grassi Group. There the team again proved themselves a force to be reckoned with after crushing both Lochario and Freeport. Though they were narrowly stopped by Equestria on the final day (proving they do, indeed, have a high ceiling), it would be a shame to call Longwood and the Lionhearts' efforts anything short of outstanding, with Starblaydians even citing them as "Silent Champs". Of course, to plant that title into fruition, the new team will need to overcome the NewVans, and if there's anything that Sylvia Zimari beating Sean Patterick proves, it's that Qasden isn't gonna go down without a fight. The winner of this match, should no other upsets happen, would become the Octofinals' 16th seed, meaning that whoever wins this child's play of a game will be met brutally by Vilita & Turori. For now though, let's ignore the imminent danger and focus on the match at hand, ready for battle at the Electra Stadium in Mynda.

Can Zimari and the Vans handle their first true do-or-die scenario of the tournamet? Or will Gallavrynga show off their newcomer prowess like Baker Park did all those moons ago? Stay tuned, stay updated, and stay alert for future reports, live from the largest city in the Aksum Region!
