SEPAK TAKRAW
WORLD CUP 1

Welcome to the First Sepak Takraw World Cup Sign up thread. We hope to get this Cup Everything thread up in about a month's time, with a host lined up. Should no host be found in a month and a half's time, I will step in and host it through the Dachine account, for IC purposes. (My main is Neu Engollon).

Before we discuss the sport, some may ask...
Wasn't there already a 1st ST World Cup on NS?

Technically, no. It was called the 'Sepak Takraw NS Cup I', not the ST WC as you can see in THIS LINK. Additionally, it never went further than a sign up thread. No iteration of a Sepak Takraw World Cup ever ran on NS, not just to completion, but at all. No Everything/IC thread exists, and hence neither does any scoring of those signed up participants. Kudos to Bloodbath Generation for organizing Sepak Takraw as far as he did and bringing some NS attention to the sport, but he doesn't get credit for running the first ST WC. It has been run as an exhibition sport in NS Olympics, and mentioned in some other nations' domestic newswires. Any proof otherwise to the above statement is welcome to be posted in the Sepak Takraw Discussion Thread.

How does one play (or RP) Sepak Takraw?
You can find the sport explained HERE. Also, we must highly recommend watching some of the YouTube videos posted of both club and national team level competition. There are variations to both name and style of the competitive sport: Sipà Tákraw, Sepak Raga, Kataw, or simply Sepak or Takraw. Chinlone, most popular in Myanmar, is recreational and not competitive. The variation we will use is Sepak Takraw (abbrev. ST) as recognized by ISTAF and the rules and regulations they have set forth (for 3 to a side team play).

How does one score Sepak Takraw on NS Sports?
By general agreement, and precedent set forth by Springmont and others in the Melayu Archipelago region, the Badminton function of Xkoranate is used, as that is the closest simulation to be found on a commonly used scorinator for NS Sports.

When is the bid for hosting the STWC due and who will decide on the bid?
The bid will be due 22 Nov with one week to vote. At the end of that time, the successfully chosen host will post an Everything Thread and also decide, depending on numbers, when to close the sign ups thread. As stated before, should no host bid be submitted within that timeframe, myself, as Dachine, will host, contingent on not being concurrent with any other NSS tournament I may be hosting at that moment. For example, if I'm hosting a rugby tournament, the ST WC scoring schedule will not start until after that tournament's hosting duties have concluded.

As for voting, since this is the first ST WC, the STIC consisting of those who have participated in at least one LSST will decide on the host through secret ballot via TG to the STIC account. After the successful conclusion of this ST WC, the STIC will consist of the LSST and the participants of the last ST WC to have posted a roster in that WC. Likely, there will be a pretty full overlap of the two groups.

Sepak Takraw World Cup I - Squidroidia

About Squidroidia and its position in Sepak Takraw

Squidroidia is a nation that was formed after the aftermath of the Apocalypse of Inkopolis caused by the Squidroid Sisters, who the nation was named after by its current leader, Higa Takanori. Inklings make up a minority of the nation's population, but the traditions of the Inkling population are unique. Sepak Takraw is one of these sports. Inklings usually play sepak takraw during traditional Inkling holidays, but they also play it for recreation as well. Due to the success of the Squidroidian Sepak Takraw Champions, Squidroidia's top tier Sepak Takraw tournament, the SSST, in conjunction with the Squidroidian government, have formally presented this bid for the Sepak Takraw World Cup.

Previous Host Experience

I as a user have been in and around NS Sports since around June 2020. However I do have some experience with xkoranate and have also just wrapped up the 2nd International Football Cup, a 16 team association football competition meant for newcomers to both competition and hosting. I have also scorinated 2 seasons of the Squidroidia Sepak Takraw Champions (Squidroidia's domestic Sepak Takraw league), 2 and a half seasons so far of domestic Squidroidian football and 2 seasons of domestic Squidroidian ice hockey and lacrosse.

Hosting Information

I will be using the badminton file on Xkoranate 0.3.3 (As has become the norm within the Sepak Takraw community with domestic leagues and the Liga Super ST Championships) for scorination of this tournament. As we have had 13 signups in the last 22 hours, I am expecting at the bare minimum 16 teams and at my comfortable maximum 32 teams to partake, but if there is more than 32 entries I am happy with expanding the competition to accommodate them. The following tiebreakers will be used:

  • Wins
  • Head-to-head Wins
  • Head-to-head regus scored
  • Total regus scored
  • Head-to-head regu difference
  • RP Bonus (IC: drawing of lots)

Since there are no Sepak Takraw rankings I will be putting all teams at 0 skill, with RP bonus being anywhere from .5 for a simple, couple sentences long RP to 3 for a well detailed, long one. Rosters can be made up of 6 or 9 players, 2 or 3 in each position (Tekong, setter and killer in Squidroidia), and a roster bonus between 1 and 2 will be assigned, 1 for a simple roster (Just players and the positions they play) with RP permissions, and 2 for a roster with information on your nation's Sepak Takraw history, a bio for each player, the domestic club they play for, as well as coaches, etc. With Sepak Takraw having only 3 players on each team at one time, making bios for each player should be pretty easy and non time consuming for the user compared to association football (11-23 players) and gridiron football (24 players at a bare minimum, 53 or so for World Bowl and 80+ for collegiate).

All games will be held in Squidroidia, and each team will play every other team in their group twice. For potential group and knockout stage formats:

  • 16 teams - 4 groups of 4, top 2 per group advance to knockout stage (Quarter-Finals)
  • 20 teams - 4 groups of 5, group winners advance to Quarter-Finals, 2nd and 3rd place teams in each group play in a Round of 12
  • 24 teams - 6 groups of 4, top 2 per group and 4 best 3rd place teams advance to knockout stage (Round of 16)
  • 28 teams - 7 groups of 4, top 2 per group and 2 best ranked 3rd place teams advance to knockout stage (Round of 16)
  • 30 teams - 5 groups of 6, top 3 per group and best ranked 4th place team advance to knockout stage (Round of 16)
  • 32 teams - 8 groups of 4, top 2 per group advance to knockout stage (Round of 16)

Each group and the knockout stage itself will be assigned an arena within Squidroidia and all teams will be drawn from an open pot. Knockout stage seeding will be done by assigning a team a seed based on their record with the same teams in their group position using the tiebreakers stated above. They will then play the team with the exact opposite seed of their team (1 face 16, 2 face 15, etc for Round of 16) for their knockout stage tie. There will be no reseeding in the knockout stages, ala NCAA's March Madness. Scorination will happen every day at a rate of one matchday per cutoff, with cutoffs being between 6 and 8 PM Eastern time (Daylight or Standard), with a break in between the end of the group stage and the start of the knockout stage.

If you have any questions on this, please let me know.

I know this is your first event, but...
Your bid leaves a lot to be desired, and some that is not. A bid would look something more like Squidroidia's above this post.
1. IC info about your nation
2. Format of groups and playoffs; pots and seedings
3. How you would score the games
4. You did cover where the games would happen, so at least there's that.
5. What types of bonus can be earned and how it is figured (As Squidroidia pointed out, there is no rank bonus as this is the first WC - leaving all to RP)
6. If ties are allowed and how they will be decided
7. Experience or how you would make up for lack of experience

Your team roster has no bearing on how you will host and score others in a bid. Save your roster to post in the actual WC Everything thread when the host opens that up.
Really, you might want to get a few tournaments under your belt before you throw bids out there. Also, I suggest entering the LSST (linked in the OP) as that will give you experience with making your own league and how to work the Xkoranate scorinator, useful for when you do start hosting tournaments.

The team has been trained for 20 years since the death of the late King Bolishi in 2000.
Ties shall be decided through a tiebreaker game. If this happens, all games are delayed until one of the teams becomes victorious.
Seeds:
Final 8
First Round: 1stv2nd, 3rdv4th, and so on.
Second Round: 1stv2nd winner vs 5thv6th and 3rdv4th winner vs 7thv8th winner.
Finale: winner of those rounds fight

Yeah, I don't think you're fully understanding. Matchups in group play are usually automatically decided unless you painstakingly score each match and manually construct the tables. Tiebreakers are settings you can pick on the scorinator by order of importance. Without ever using the scorinator - playing with the settings and doing test matches, you're not going to know this and it shows. You're still missing other stuff. Trying to help you put together a more solid bid won't be doing a service to the rest of the ST community right now. I'm sorry.
You have your bid, we'll vote and see what happens. Good luck.
