Sylestone lose to Darmen, drop to third

Postby Sylestone » Wed Oct 28, 2020 6:16 pm

Sylestone has lost a good game against Darmen, the fifth-ranked game against Darmen, in MAGECAG in Gruenberg. Unfortunately for the,, the result has pushed the Sylestoneans to third in the table, but a win against Krytenia in Matchday 5 may change that. The game was a close one, with the unranked side smashing the number 5 side all over the park en route to 7/187 after their 50 overs. It was a good total and it undoubtedly scared the star-studded Darmen batting lineup. But it proved to not be enough as the opposition chased down the total on the last ball with the loss of just two wickets. Vinnie Acker hit the last ball for four, completing his century and guiding his side home. Van der Zee helped with a quickfire 42 and Miligan made 24 not out.

Darmen won the toss and surprisingly elected to bowl on a good batting pitch. It proved to be a bad decision, as Monteane and Tiati began well. However, Tiati fell and Cocrine came in. Him and the unorthodox opener made hay of the Darmen bowlers, smashing them to all parts. But it wouldn't last as Cocrine fell with the score on 101 in the eleventh over. Monteane continued and passed a deserved fifty. Wickets began to fall, though, as Darmen began to haul back the run-rate. Jonjaakh came in late and blasted the ball around for a quickfire 20 not out off nine balls. It was an innings of starts for the Sylestoneans, with only one player passing fifty. Five more made double-digits. For the bowlers, Rosenfeld, Myers and McAlister all took two wickets, while Gardenar took one, Monteane. It was a good total, but it wasn't enough.

Acker and Winter opened the innings for Darmen and began positively. But in the third over, Pistecial got Winter and the aggressive van der Zee came out to join Acker at the crease. The two put on 95 in just under 8 overs, taking the bowling down before van der Zee was dismissed for 42 in the 11th over. But by that time, Acker was on 61 and the Darmen side were way ahead of the run-rate. They were making hay and Sylestone could do nothing to stop it. Until they could. The wicket of van der Zee stagnated the run-rate for a little bit as they fell back down to what was required. Afosha and Pistecial kept the pressure on as it continued to fall. With 3 balls remaining in the entire innings, Darmen needed 6 runs off 3 balls with Vilesti bowling. Milligan, on only 23 runs of 27 balls and only one boundary to his name, was facing. Acker was at the other end on 95 off 60 balls. Vilesti bowled the ball. It was a yorker, right on middle-stump. Milligan stepped out of the way and squeezed the ball down to fine-leg for a single, bringing the opener on strike. Acker faced up and smashed Vilesti's slower-ball back over his head for 4. The scores were level and Acker was on 99. The final ball was like the antepenultimate one, a yorker on middle stump. Acker edged it past off-stump for four as he reached his century and brought Darmen the win. The crowd roared as Vilesti fell to his feet. So close, yet so far...

Lachlan Edwards has made a shocking statement after stirring in the break between games. He has said that he will never, ever play international cricket again, but is happy to travel to other countries to play domestically. He has said he didn't like the intensity of it all and it wasn't fun. Grearia has snapped this up with an offer to play there. He is seriously considering it.

A performance that will ensure everyone remembers the name of … that guy

Jett Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk added an exciting pinch-hitting cameo to a superb display of spin bowling to ensure Gruenberg claimed a vital first win the GCF World T20. “I think after today, everyone’s going be talking about Tyrkk… uh, about Jett,” said captain Ettexinor Broimbles after the victory at the Moroschwegen Arena of Death. Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk took 4-19 including a rare T20 maiden and hit a fluent 25 off 15 pinch-hitting at 3 in a performance against a resilient Rundel side who challenged Gruenberg all the way before letting a possible win slip from their fingers.

Aside from Tyrk… aside from him, Gruenberg’s bowling remains a worry, having conceded over 170 runs for the second game running. At the flat Oval pitch, leaking runs to the experienced Liventian batting lineup to be expected. Watching Rundel cruise to 74-1 in the powerplay and pass 100 inside 9 overs at the country’s leading bowling surface was another prospect entirely. iiPiqup Fizbin is quickly proving himself not to be the second coming of iiPriyuff Uglaxx, and bowled far too short in his opening (and only) spell – Robley Pauxten and Abeneg Hurnamb duly cashed in, crashing boundaries off him as though they were batting in a small regional ground, not the largest stadium in the country.

Gruenberg’s fielding was also poor with dropped catches (two), missed run-outs (three) and fluffed pick-ups (too numerous to count). The one throw that did hit the stumps came with Hurnamb four priffts* deep in his crease, and ran away for costly overthrows. The lone exception was keeper Vumtyhop Chuffles, whose silky glovework came from the best tradition of Turvuaednes and Uvaevulavae; his reverse handed stumping of Rundel captain Callo Kemdawn off a wide was particularly slick, while he also took an outstanding chest-high snag off his opposite number, Zhobie Bostwa. His six dismissals in all set a new T20I record for Gruenberg.

It was only Tyrk… - look, you know who I’m talking about – his introduction changed the dynamic of the game. Rundel’s batsmen had proved accomplished players of spin, no doubt reflecting their country’s own spin-friendly wickets, and dispatched Qilairana, Yowoax, and Tumcoweiss at better than 8 an over. But Tyrk… the leggie proved a different prospect. He got Pauxten to miss a googly, bogged down Kemdawn, and ensure an innings that had been charging towards 200 petered out. Ke Ke also showed improved accuracy from the first game, landing his yorkers in an excellent closing over and ripping out two wickets to ensure there would be no grand finale.

When Qilairana fell in the first over of the chase, Broimbles boldly gambled on Tyrk… on that guy. The young all-rounder came out swinging. He missed a few wild swipes, unable to catch up to the pace of Flark Balgula, who nearly had a wicket maiden of his own had a leading edge not dropped fractionally short of point and spun away for a single, but was more comfortable against spin. He and Eightyseven Otterbiscuits put on 55 before Balgula whirred one back into his pads, but the pinch-hit surprise had injected dynamism into the innings. Then Kemdawn’s decision to give Frencka Obsing a fourth over backfired as Otterbiscuits blasted three sixes off him to bring up a fifty reviving hopes of a real return to form for the punchy opener.

When Broimbles finally came to the wicket he survived a perilously close LBW shout first ball to escape consecutive golden ducks, and took five balls to get off the mark. But once he hit his stride he batted with composure and not a little class, and used his feet adroitly to nullify the sharp spin the impressive Throll Kentocks was extracting from Balgula’s footmarks. Hrakkanord Qeftidjil struggled for rhythm against the spinners, but backed up Broimbles on his way to a fifty that, if not quite a fluent captain’s innings, at least did enough to quiet the doubters for now. Kentocks eventually had the hapless Qeftidjil fending to cover, but Chuffles, to the delight of his teammates, finished things off with an agricultural mow to goat’s corner**.

With a trip to Merlefurt to meet former world champions up ahead, Gruenberg may be mulling the first changes. Brigveger Grovan could bring a calmer, more experienced head to proceedings in lieu of Fizbin, while Qeftidjil’s bowling appears unneeded and his batting too literally hit-or-miss to fit into Broimbles’s plans, meaning a possible call-up for either Bbqsauce Rirfin or Zambuimmi Hengtridan Jr. There may also be a flicker of unease that thus far Lemonzesty Yowoax has been outbowled by his younger, less experienced peers, but it’s unlikely the old hand would be dropped yet.

Another Victory for the Hebitaka

The Hebitaki team went for the mighty victory against the Northwest Kalactin. The team completely defied the odds and prediction to become the winner this time. Winning their first toss in the tournament the Hebitaka team won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision proved to be correct and struck huge blow to the whole game. With the fall of two wickets in the first five thanks to Christopher Thompsons bowling of 2-15 in his first three, the Hebitaki team collapsed to 29-2 in 4.3 overs. But that was when the drastic decision was taken by the captain Asif. Even after a lot of controversies the team decided to make full use of Tanujit Mondal, the young keeper, by making him get to bat at no.4 instead of his usual no. 7. This was a great decision as this lad along with Nasako Kim made a partership of 101 runs, having a contribution of 51 from Tanujit. The third wicket fell at 130 at the 15th over. Following this two more wickets fell at147(17th over) and 163(18th over). The team ended at a score of 184/5 in their quota of 20 overs. Tanujit was the Highest scorer for the team with 92 runs in 67 balls followed by Nasako Kim with a fast 47 runs in 26 balls. The leading wicket bowler was C Thompson with a stat of 3-31 in 4 overs.

The Northwest Kalactin batting also had a bad beginning with a score of 33-2 in 6.4 overs. The next partnership lasted a bit long falling at 71-3 in 11.2 overs, causing a huge decrease in the current run rate. The team, then requiring 114 in 52 balls, tried their best to maintain the run rate and chase down the target. But most of the hopes were lost, with the team got to the score of 151-4 in the end 19th over needing more 34 runs in 6 balls which could only be done by a miracle. The team ended scoring a 18 runs in the final over, which would have been a lot in other cases, but was not so much in this one. The man at fourth Sean Adams was the Highest scorer scoring 62 in 33 balls followed by Joseph Gonzales who scored 42 in 31 not out. The best bowling was by Aron takin 2-18 in his three over quota.

Hebitaka won the toss and elected to bat
Hebitaka 184-5(20 overs)
T Mondal 92(67)* C Thompson 3-31
N Kim 47(26) K Lopez 1-26

S Adams 62(33) D Aron 2-18
J Gonzales 42(31)* T Kimano 1-22
G Green 30(20) S Tenzuo 1-27

Hebitaka win by 15 runs

The Hebitaka team moves up the table as Pratapgadh loses a big game against the Eljamie making them get down to fourth. The previous table toppers Liventia move to 2nd while the new first position now belongs to Eljamie leaving the third position open for Hebitaka. All the top three teams of group A stand at 4 points ranked on basis of NRR. The next game of Hebitaka is against Pratapgadh who stands currently in the fourth position right next to Hebitaka. This team is quite strong and even after this victory the odds are still against Hebitaka in this game.

When it's sunny, the sky is a beautiful blue, with clouds dotting the sky. Perfect for a picnic, walking your dog and watching your children play on the see-saw.

However, when it rains, it pours. The West Phoenician Lighting Bolts are facing an uphill battle, dealing with dark clouds, thunder and down pouring of torrential rains. Now only ruining a chance for a picnic in the park with a loved one, but the terrifying reality they will be washed away by the competition.

After a nail hitting finish in the first match which saw Krytenia take out the match 165/5 to 163/6 with one ball to spare, there was a reason for Head Coach Edward Mount-Alexander to get semi peeved at the team.
The Lightning Bolts have a lot riding on this championship, they are chasing a second title and starving off an attack from other nations who covet the number one spot.
The match was so close and the loss fell on the shoulders of Alan Narre, Priapus Fellachino, Anh Viet and Brutus Brinkley. Four bowlers, who are supposed to be the best West Phoenicia can toss at the world.

Anh Viet took the criticism hard, it was his over that allowed Krytenia to get the edge at the last moments of the game.

Hopeful optimism sprang out from the group, like a brand new Jack in the Box that encountered it's first pop up after it's crank was turned in the form of match two.

The Lighting Bolts were up against Sajnur, who hovered around the 20th spot in the rankings.
It was not a team they were well versed in, the moment was ripe for West Phoenicia to bounce back from their first loss and claw their way back up the pool. It really should have been a piece of cake.
The Lightning Bolts won the coin toss and due to their superstitious nature, declared they would bat first.
The team pulled off a terrific score of 173, an impressive number, one just needed to ignore the high number of outs which were 9. But the team played the part extremely well. Jack Tennessee returned to form scoring 61 before being bowled out.

Sajnur surprised the team, almost as if the Lightning Bolts were bowling them grapefruit.
Even Alan Narre and his list for the fast bowling could not stop the onslaught that begun with Harry Kotte and Darjo Zulje

Sanjur easily defeated their opponents, the game ended when they scored two runs which pushed them into the lead with over 2 overs spare.
The devastating loss was a wake-up call, to tread carefully with all teams and to not underestimate anyone.

The loss places West Phoenicia is one of the most horrible situations they have come across. With four matches remaining, they will need to win all four matches to even stand a chance to progress to the round of sixteen, a truly humiliating episode in the life of the team who has ranked high, the last three championships.

Not that bad right? West Phoenicia has bounced back before.

Suffering a loss against Sanjur was not the only loss suffered. Wicketkeeper Ricky Parvati fracture a finger during the match and sustained a knee injury post match, when he slipped on the field.

Physiotherapist Dixie Craven confirmed with the Head Coach and other staff, Ricky Parvati will miss the remainder of the championship.

In his place, new young wicketkeeper Lucas Greensburg will take to the field in his first international twenty20 when West Phoenicia takes on Ethane which has promised to be the comeback match the team needs to stay in contention to win the whole competition.

Cricket has taken a bit of a back seat when it comes to the popularity of sports in Ethane. Mismanagement by the National Cricket Board (ENCB) and the clubs have led to a steep decline in ratings on television, as well as attendance at games. This has also hit the interest in the national team, with people switching to other sports, such as football and baseball. Football doesn't matter too much to the ENCB, but it is the growing popularity of baseball that concerns the ENCB the most, due to the sometimes perceived similarities between the games. However, the ENCB and cricketing bodies around the country are not giving up yet, and fighting to maintain the popularity of cricket in Ethane at the club and international level. Thus, with some support from the government as well, new funding has been pumped into the sport to revitalise it. This means bringing in the big names into the fold, batters and bowlers from Ethanian past who have constantly appeared on the international stage but have never made their mark.

The ENCB and the players are hoping that they'll have what it takes to make a deep run into this tournament, and establish the Ethanian team as a significant feature of international cricket. The team is determined to make their mark. It'll be tough to compete at such a high level, but they have experience internationally and a determination to succeed. The question is whether the coach is going to be able to coax the best out of this team.

Sylewho?

Ethane are back baby, and oh it's going to be good. It has been a long time since the Red Kites have really had a decent presence in international cricketing tournaments, but that period of absence has ended. After average performances against Sylestone in the test series and the team's okay performance in the ODI tournament, the Red Kites are determined that the same won't be repeated in this tournament.

Twenty20. Not a game of endurance, but of fast-paced scoring. Boundaries are so important in this format. It doesn't exactly play to the strengths of Ethanian cricketers, who have a preference for the test format. But this is a team that can hit big when they need to. They can be focused when they need to be. This is a team that can step up to the mark, out of their comfort zone, and win games. And that's what they have done so far.

The Red Kites comfortably disposed of an under-performing Krytenian team. The Krytenians batted first. But they were restricted well by the Ethanian bowlers, with Pilton and Keele making a big difference for the team. 3 wickets for Pilton were key in taking out partnerships just when they were starting to look threatening, keeping the pressure on Krytenia as they slowly began to tally up runs. But Keele's contribution was just as valuable. Keele didn't pick up any wickets but had the best economy rate of all the Ethanian bowlers, keeping the run tally down. Because of him they were constantly on the edge of their seat, with the conservative Keele restricting the run rate dramatically.

In the end it was a comfortable bat for the Ethanians. They easily dispatched the Krytenian total of 131 runs in just over 15 overs, leaving 29 balls left over. Dammelhead was an important player opening the batting, putting up a good tally to get the ball rolling. However, he was without a strong partner. Hannelten and Rowell fell in quick succession, with Umbridge also out for a duck. It wasn't until Elizabeth where Dammelhead found a partner to put in with, but just as the partnership was getting stable, Dammelhead fell to a peacher of a ball. It did get a little sketchy in the middle overs, with a bit of distance to Krytenia's score and a diminishing number of wickets available. The Krytenian bowlers were extremely disciplined. But Elizabeth was able to carry it most of the way alongside Loughton and Farther, with Lion and Pilton racking up the final few runs with confidence.

The second victory of the group so far for Ethane was even more resounding. A respectable 162 runs wasn't enough to match the 231 runs that the Red Kites tallied up, with key contributions from Rowell and Umbridge. The victory against Sajnur does wonders for Ethane's net run rate, giving them a comfortable lead in that measuring stick. And that win also leaves Ethane top of the group on 4 points, with two wins and a loss. Sylestone and Krytenia are matched with us on that record, albeit Darmen has two wins but has one more game to play on Ethane. Sajnur could also level our record, having recorded a win and a loss from their first two games.

The only loss, tragically, came against Sylestone on the first match day. That was an admittedly resounding win for The Sentients against a team that was ill-prepared to be launched straight into a tournament again. The relationship between Ethane and Sylestone is quickly becoming something of a passionate rivalry, one which Sylestone seems to get the better half of the results out of it. With games against them in the tests, as well as the crucial Cup of Harmony knockout round meeting which saw Ethane drop out of their own hosted tournament which they co-hosted with none other than Sylestone, this rivalry continues to inflame. And naturally these two teams had to be drawn against each other in the Twenty20 tournaments. The victory for Sylestone, albeit less important than previous victories for their team, is likely to further inflame tensions in what is already a relatively intense rivalry between the two sides.
Esportivan and Proud.

The Annasholm Sentinel

Jett Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk led hosts Gruenberg to a narrow win over Rundel. After putting up 177 runs in their innings, Rundel almost managed to hold Gruenberg, but in the twentieth over, Ettexinor Broimbles and Vumtyhop Chuffles combined to get to Dreen Perra and put Gruenberg over the top with 181. Not only did Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk score twenty-five runs as a batsman, he pitched four overs, one of which blanked Rundel in a "maiden" performance.

A few self-important moralizers made a fuss at this piece of sporting jargon as soon as they discovered the etymology. "Verily, it is the year 2020 in some notable religion's calendar," proclaimed no-good busybody Fieba Magonwhey. "Why do uncouth sportsmen persist in suggesting that the sexual history of a consenting adult woman is a matter of notability or statistical fluke? And stop giggling, are you twelve?" Magonwhey was thereupon presented with a reference of how baseball-playing nations communicate abstract metaphors through sport and was too scandalized to make further comment.

Meanwhile, there has been speculation that some of Rundel's top-performing players in this tournament may consider attempting to join the Grearish league in time for their new season. "Although the Railways club likely signifies a state with too much control of transportation and urban structures," said reliable conservative Flark Balgula, "I think their logo is very nice." Captain Callo Kemdawn admitted that "it'd be a treat to make a bob or two for playing a game, but I don't expect to move halfway around the world without asking the missus first."

Darmen Overcomes Last Second Injuries to Down Sylestone

WURTBENN, GRUENBERG - The final half hour before Darmen's match against Sylestone was a hectic one for the men in green, as Bud Bachmann pulled a calf muscle and Alf Dickenson threw out his arm, forcing the Darmeni side to make some last second changes to their lineup.

"We didn't really want to make any changes, both Bachmann and Dickenson played well against Kriegiersien," commented Darmeni captain Sigmund Winter. "But obviously, when a player can't go out and perform, you've got to replace them. We're a good team, but I don't think we can win with just nine players."

Replacing Bud Bachmann and making his T20I debut, Kenny O'Callaghan wasn't called upon to bat, Vinnie Acker and Winston van der Zee saw to it that he wouldn't be needed. But the 22 year old Bloomer batsman did contribute to Darmen's victory, making two superb catches at deep point and sending Luke Tiati and Norbert Pistecial back to the dressing room.

Kieran Rosenfeld was more active in his replacement of Dickenson, as the 25 year old bowled a full spell and took two wickets for 35 runs. Rosenfeld's clean bowling of Lachlan Cocrine ended a second wicket partnership that had combined for 62 runs and was beginning to look unstoppable.

"Both replacements performed excellently, I couldn't have asked for anymore," stated Winter. "They were the next men up and they did their jobs."

Winter hinted that both O'Callaghan and Rosenfeld would remain in the lineup for the team's next match against Krytenia, to allow Bachmann and Dickenson some extra time to recover from what are considered to be minor injuries. The two players are expected to be back in the lineup against Sajnur, where both are expected to be "close enough to 100%."

WT20 XIII: A Tale of Two Matches

Joanna Lau

Sajnur's start to the latest World T20 has been... mercurial. After a bye on the opening matchday, the Sajnuran cricket team walked into the rather unauspiciously named Most Augustly Goat-Enabled Cricket Association Ground to face world number one West Phoenicia. The Lightning Bolts, despite their ranking, had no thunder to back them up and the clouds parted for Sajnur to achieve a shocking upset victory, albeit one that followed a close loss to Krytenia for the West Phoenicians. Sajnur then left the mountains of Wurtbenn for the contaminated Arradan to face Ethane. The Silver Crown Ground proved less fruitful for a Sajnuran team used to clean air and rigorous environmental and safety standards and more so for a team whose country is literally named after a flammable gas. Wickets proved not to be the order of the day, as while Sajnur took eight to Ethane's three, we still lost by 69 runs. Weird result; must be something in the air.

In the Goat-Enabled stadium, the Bolts got off to a fast start, though not necessarily a good one. Captain Jack Tennessee dug in and hit plenty of boundaries, but wickets fell around him. Grey Gryphon got a quick 19, while fellow James Emanon couldn't get going and was clean bowled for six. Tennessee formed a fifty partnership with all rounder Hasaga Kain, but eventually the spin pair of Toljo Jorse and Elsa Cazla sent them back, the latter baiting Kain to swing at one drifting wide but having the ball spin savagely into middle stump. It was wickets galore from there, with Jorse drawing an edge from Aaron Shields to make it three wickets for Sajnur in three overs. To Samuel Persana's horror, the spinner bettered that with three wickets in three balls, trapping wicketkeeper Ricky Parvati lbw, removing Alan Narre's leg stump, and then enticing Priapus Fellachino humiliatingly forward for Emre Vurda to remove his bails and his dignity. That over would end as a maiden, and Jorse would leave with figures of 5/19. It was up to Anh Viet to hold the other end long enough for Persana to score runs, of which he obtained 32 before Cazla sent a googly to his legs en route to the stumps. Brutus Brinkley held on until the end of the innings, and Viet even scored two fours, leaving West Phoenicia on 173.

Sajnur also got off to a fast start, but unlike the Bolts, Harry Kotte and Darjo Zulye didn't simple flash out of the blue only to disappear again. Zulje bettered Gryphon's 19 (8) with 29 (12) before skying a Kain short ball to Emanon. Kotte simply continued on his way, forming another partnership with Gabby Fiume, and both bats got to 50, though it would take the rest of the match for Fiume to get there. Kotte eventually skied one of his own to Captain Tennessee having not made clean contact with Viet's spin. On came Captain Tomas Piqa to hit a six off Viet, hang around an over or so, and then get caught lbw by said spinner. Short stays ended by spinners would become a bit of a trend as Kaori Jansa would send a Brutus Brinkley topspinner straight back and Emre Vurda would be caught behind for Viet's third wicket. Unfortunately for Viet and co, Vurda launched two sixes into the stands before his demise, meaning only three runs were needed when Alan Tijer came on, and Tijer promptly hit a single to let Fiume do the honours. Two runs off the next ball brought up her fifty and snatched the match for Sajnur, a spectacular performance against a formidable opponent.

Fortune did not smile upon Sajnur in Arradan, however. The Pitch was flat, but bouncy, and Ethane took full advantage, and by Ethane I mean Harry Rowell and Gary Umbridge. A century partnership in not much time at all paved the way for them to score 231 runs. Rowell himself scored 108 in 50 balls. Unbeaten. Edmund Dammelhead paved the way with his quick 23 before Nikolas Burovin knocked over his stumps, and Alan Tijer had Damien Hannelten nicked the over before. Then Ethane lit on fire. While Toljo Jorse got some containment on runs, Sirua and Elsa Cazla were laid waste upon as the third and fourth batsmen got 17 boundaries between them. Even when Jorse took care of Umbridge, Rowell kept going toward twelve boundaries, including seven sixes, on his own. Even as wickets fell at the other end, with just 34 runs scored by #5 and below in the Ethane order, Rowell continued to drive up the score to dizzying heights. Ali Farther helped to that end as well, scoring 19 off just six balls. Five, really, before he was skittled by a Sirua swinging yorker. Nikolas Burovin, despite also taking the wicket of Adam Loughton, would concede 38 off his last two overs and Kaori Jansa would haemorrhage 17 of his six balls.

Sajnur attempted to respond, but after Harry Kotte's spell was ended, Darjo Zulje and Gabby Fiume would be mired in molasses, getting barely a run a ball as Thomas Burns would choke them and the constrictive field would give them little opportunity for singles and few gaps to the boundary. It wasn't until they were both removed and Tomas Piqa and Emre Vurda came on that any sort of proper run scoring took place again, and by this time it was a bit too little and far too late. Piqa and Vurda actually launched over the constrictive field for three sixes each and a four for Piqa, but off the remaining 35 deliveries they faced they scored just 22 runs between them, meaning they could only drag the team to 162. On most days that would still be a respectable score, but on this day it was way below par. Ethane only got three wickets, but they gave no opportunity for Sajnur to produce the run scoring needed to chase down 231.

I had a much better RP planned for this match (which might yet see the light of day) but due to the general situation I've not had the motivation to RP, bah : < Hopefully I can get it back as I wrote two and a bit really good paragraphs...xkoranate cricket defeats are the best fodder for random roleplaying!

Debutants impress but Gruenberg choke in tense chase

Gruenberg stumbled to a disappointing defeat to Northwest Kalactin at the MCG as questions mount about an attack that has conceded 170+ runs in three consecutive matches. But overhauling the total looked comfortably within their grasp as they compiled 94 runs for the third wicket in a fluent stand between Ettexinor Broimbles, cementing his position as captain with a composed fifty, and Zambuimmi Hengtridan Jr., who shone on debut with an elegant 45. Disaster then struck as they collapsed to lose six wickets for 39 runs in 28 balls. Jett Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk, needing to hit a boundary off the last ball, could only swing a looping edge to cover for a single.

The see-sawing game reflected a curiously paced pitch. Rewarding as ever to spinners, the Merlefurt surface was tacky after a brief early, unseasonal shower, and the outfield sluggish and heavy. Hemmed in by Salajaff Qilairana and Hraffinthroquadilamjamhampamsamtamrambamattawakkipurrheliomansthophthanes Tumcoweiss, Kalactin’s openers made a steady start, without really cashing in on the time spent – and overs used up. Joseph Gonzalez followed with a similarly cautious 41, as the Gruenberger spinners maintained their tight lines. Of the seamers, Brigveger Grovan impressed with 2 economical overs, but Ke Ke continued to struggle for accuracy.

It took Sean Adams and Alan Powell to inject some momentum into the innings. Between them they took 40 from the last 3 overs, including 15 off Grovan’s ill-advised third; Broimbles was left to reflect on why he had not given it to Qilairana, who finished with 1-11 off his two. Broimbles, following in the example of Yurkk Zovarifnay and contrary to the thoughts of Benny Enchante and Pitkin Deisler, clearly favours spin above all else. With Ke failing to land his yorkers, the young captain’s patience with the wayward seamer appeared to be fraying as he gesticulated wildly after two successive wides in the final over.

But Gruenberg’s own reply also began slowly, pegged back by early wickets. With Northwest Kalactin mirroring the hosts in opening with spin, a frustrated Eightyseven Otterbiscuits hacked, swiped, and ultimately missed in an ugly innings, while Qilairana hit one imperious six and nine useless dots. Ofrana Fydoscog’s poor form continued, dinking a lap-sweep straight to short fine leg. Enter Hengtridan Jr., to wild applause. The debutant took a few balls to warm up but after jogging in Broimbles’s shadow, took over the strike and hit successive sixes off Jesse Brown.

He and Broimbles ran well, found the gaps, and used their feet smartly to nullify the spin. Between they looked set to put Gruenberg on cruise control for victory. Ralph Wood made the difference, getting an off-cutter to wobble away – Hengtridan followed with his hands and Gonzalez took a great diving snag off the shoulder. From there, inexplicable panic set in. Vumtyhop Chuffles’s callow innings wasted four deliveries, and then Broimbles, not trusting in the all-rounders, tried to be the hero. He hit two gorgeous drives off Brown, but was caught on the boundary going for a third.

From there, Christopher Thompson proved capable where Ke had come unstuck. Toe-crushing yorkers, at no great accuracy but accurate enough to split an atom, were too much for Tumcoweiss. Grovan selflessly sacrificed himself to get Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk back on strike, but the mounting run rate had become too much. It was a well-earned win for the disciplined Northwest Kalactin team, but Gruenberg will reflect on a defeat that should, perhaps have been a win.

Dragonflies keep it professional versus Busoga

The Dragonflies keep stringing wins together in a volatile competition, rise to 3-0, with key matches versus the Jovannic and the Plough Islands still coming up.

The KCA-selected squad has won their third match out of three in a T20 World Championship where nobody is safe, leading the Plough Islands by virtue of having a match in hand, who are in turn a win over the Jovannic and the Busoga Islands. Both other matches in Group D were over in about three quarters of the time as the Busoga Islands-Ko-oren fixture. The Jovannic posted a target of 96, Greater Kamilistan did them one better by gifting the Plough Islands a target of just 94.

Busoga Islands 133/7 (20 overs)
Ko-oren 140/7 (20 overs)

Wickets were easy to come by, runs were slightly harder to come by, but it was nowhere near as bad as the other two matches in the group. The Dragonflies came out to bat early in the day, with some overcast conditions but without any risk of rain, with Penn and Twaddle opening. Stevenson was left out for the first time this tournament, giving the youngsters full reign of the first few overs. It took a little while for the Busogans to get set, leaking runs and extras on sloppy bowling. The third and fourth overs were especially terrible, the Busogans not recording a dot ball on either of the twelve deliveries there. The first wicket came on the very next ball, as Penn tried to extend the streak by getting a shot off from his back foot, slipped back, and hit his own wicket. An obscure rule to be sure, and not one you often see on an international level - but Penn went out on a hit wicket. It'll have consequences for his status on the team, too.

Twaddle powered on with Commins, who made his debut for the national team (T20, at least). Twaddle nicked it to the wicketkeeper in the next over, but the damage was done. At 11 runs per over across the first five overs, the momentum was ours and Commins and Doyle understood that. They made the fielders work for it, finding gaps in the infield while powerplay lasted, but also hitting singles and doubles and making the fielders run to gather the ball. The Busogans did get some momentum back by getting two more wickets in the first 10 overs, and the run rate slowed down dramatically for a while, but Wheelwright and Pandherinthen (continuing the realm of rarer call-ups) picked it up and saw the innings through almost until the end, safeguarding a decent target and easing the tail-end into the final three overs. Trying to squeeze a few runs more, Wheelwright was run out, then Pandherinthen was the all-rounder as the one to get back on strike with the bowlers scoring singles to set him up. Kinghead scored a four and immediately tried to repeat that: the delivery was considerably slower and Kinghead hit it way too far up, getting caught out in the outfield, well short of the rope. Lastly, Brakefield was the seventh wicket to fall, with two balls to go, completely losing track of the ball, going for a scoop instead of a pull, giving it straight to the wicketkeeper. Still, it was a way to get some excitement in the final overs, with a few wickets in hand, so why not.

The Busogans knew what to do in their innings, with a very attainable target. They had a slightly different tactic of getting there, starting a bit slower to conserve wickets but still taking full advantage of powerplay. They didn't mind taking a few dot balls if it meant pouncing on the exact deliveries they could score boundaries on. Of course, it doesn't work as 'automatically' as that, as the batsmen also found out. They fell apart a little in communication as well, where it wasn't always clear if they went for a run (or a second run, in case of a potential double). The first wicket came from that exact situation: a great partnership broken up over an ill-advised run. Kinghead then had an amazing spell forcing the batsmen further outside without actually bowling wides, with the Busogans still swinging as not to let the overs pass them by. Wheelwright shifted the fielding accordingly, limiting runs and getting Commins to catch one out. From there on out, the opponents tried to get their partnership back, with poor communication all the way through, which kept them divided and conquerable. Wheelwright took two catches as Kinghead had 'a day', as they say: 4 overs, 21 runs, 4 wickets (and zero maidens). Two of those wickets came in the same over, towards the end, really putting an end to the chase with the batting wicketkeeper and the last remaining 'full-time' batsman out. Two tough wickets to take, and from there on out it was just picking off the bowlers.

The search for the perfect make-up of the XI continues. Kinghead made a strong case to be included going forward, while stocks for Doyle dropped a little. There is not one single player that can carry the team as a true star batsman. One the one hand, that's a good thing, because there is no one 'weakest link' that can bring down the team like a house of cards, but it also means that there's no certainty in the batting order. Pandherinthen was serviceable but not the force expected at that point in the order. Wheelwright seems to have settled in as the go-to limited overs wicketkeeper, however, and yLellmedd is a lock as a spin bowler as well. This does mean that Thrall and Etherington will see fewer matches.

As it is our bye day, it is time to analyse how each of the groups are panning out. Sylestone, despite having a bye, is still in third and looking strong for the remaining rounds. But how is everyone else doing? Read on to find out!

Group A:
Aside from ladder-leaders Liventia, positions 2-7 in the table are all very tightly fought for. Only two points, or one win, separate Elejamie in second to Rundel in last place. Liventia have already had their bye round, but are sitting very pronounced in first place, without dropping points yet. While Elejamie and Pratapgadh being in second and third place respectively in expected, newbies Hebitaka isn't. They have played four and won two, an ominous start for them. Hosts Gruenberg is the best of the three sides with only one win, but winners from the eleventh edition, Northwest Kalactin, are almost eliminated with only one win from four games. Liventia have surely grabbed one of the two qualification spots, but who will take the other? It's cricket, so it could be anyone. It will be interesting to find out.

Group B:
Our own group is surely one of the most interesting to discuss. Ethane, ranked 22 in the world, are on top of the table with 3 wins from four games, but they still haven't had their bye yet so they have that disadvantage. Darmen are three from three and in second, while we're in third. Below us is Krytenia, on the same number of points but with two losses and Sajnur has the same as us, with two wins and a loss. Pretty ordinary, am I right? So you say. In the last place is West Phoenicia. The world number one. With three losses from three games. Three words sum that up: What the fuck.
Following their super-over loss to Sajnur, Kriegiersien has been officially eliminated from the competition.

Group C:
Over in Grearia, Mattijana, the world's defending champions, are topping Group C with four wins from four games and have effectively qualified. Damukuni have three wins from four and Grearia two from three. Indusse are still winless after three games and they need a brilliant run of results to qualify in the top two. But their chances look absolutely shocking. The Sarian and Al Wadiya have one win from three games and neither look like qualifying. Looks like it might be a fight to the death between hosts Grearia and Damukuni...

Group D:
The last group of this cup contains some of the best teams in the NS sports world. Ko-oren and Plough Islands are well on top with three wins each, the latter with a loss to its name, too. It seems those two powerhouses are going to be the two qualifiers here. The chasers include The Jovannic, Busoga Islands and Lisander all wih two wins. Central Shaneville and Greater Kamilistan are all but eliminated with three losses from three games. They both need to win all of their games to even have a chance, something which is very unlikely to happen. But it is cricket. Anything can happen.

And there we are. Join us for our coverage of MD5 against Krytenia at MAGECAG!

Player of the Match: Sigmund Winter 66-45 not out, 7x4's, 2x6's
ARRADAN, GRUENBERG — Darmen's most dangerous opponents, Krytenia have been dealt with and dismissed. Well, at least nine of them were as the Darmeni bowling attack tore through the Krytenian lineup as the Stars attempted to chase down Darmen's total of 189, to no avail.

Once again, Darmen's openers and middle order were in fine form as they fired fours and sixes through, over and around "Saxon's Idiots." Following Acker's century versus Sylestone, captain Sigmund Winter put up some numbers of his own on his way to being named Player of the Match, scoring 66 runs off 45 deliveries, seven boundaries of the lesser variety and two of the greater and all the while protecting his wicket.

Winter paired well with each teammate who appeared in the middle; none of the four Darmeni batting partnerships ever looked awkward. Even Kenny O'Callaghan, finally recoding a batting innings in his second Twenty20 International appearance, looked confident and understood his role while working with his captain to continue increasing Darmen's total.

For Krytenia, Brigham Hill was perhaps the only bright spot — one could even say shining star, if one were so inclined — translating the golden bats of Winston van der Zee and Theudofrid Milligan and closing their chapters in the scorekeeper's books.

Krytenia's chase did not get off to a good start, while Shelton Schneller batted the entire first over and scored eight runs off two fours, his opening partner Ryan Watling bailed at first asking as Dorian Myers sent their relationship spinning out of control with some superb off break.

Darmen's pace then came to the forefront, as the raging inferno of McAlister, Rosenfeld and Wakefield — no, you may not ask them (nor should you really) for legal advice — burned Krytenia's batsmen one by one. Any Krytenian who showed even the remotest amount of promise at putting together a solid innings wound up engulfed in flamin' scorchers, unconfirmed reports even suggest that Bradley Grafton returned to the pavilion with singed eyebrows.

Krytenia can take at least some amount of solace in the fact that Darmen was unable to claim Krytenia's final wicket before the end of the innings to end the match with a Krytenian supernova.

Darmen's next match will be against Sajnur, who defeated Kriegiersien in a rare super over affair. A victory in the match would give Darmen sole possession of first place in Group B, a position they currently share with Ethane, Darmen's final opponent before the quarterfinals. Both Bud Bachmann and Alf Dickenson are expected to return to the Darmeni lineup for the remainder of the group stage, although if qualification for the knock-outs can be secured before the match with Ethane, expect O'Callaghan to make a return to the lineup.

Last hopes for Hebitaka

Hebitaka lost the previous match to the mighty Pratapgadh by 6 wickets and 7 balls to spare. Not only did it struck a huge deficit of run rate but it has also put Hebitaka in a state where the next matches are going to be very crucial. The team has to win both the games or at least one game by a good margin. This has struck Hebitaka as the next two matches are going to be by far the most hardest one for the Hebitaki players as they are to play the Eljamie(World rank 6) in the next games Gruenberg(The host and one time WC winner).

Last game review

The team of Pratapgadh won the toss to take the ball in their hands. The game was rather general throughout with a sudden high clash in the mid order by Musako to take the projected score to 197. But a good display with the ball by the Pratapgadh bowlers to smash the game and held the Hebitaki batsman to a score of just 153 with the fall of 7 wickets. K Nath, the opener, for the first time showed his game with a great 57(35) and Musako with score of 32(13). The bowling, however was not so great with the best bowler Gopikrishan having the figures of 1-33 in three overs. The Pratapgadh batsman took the full opportunities to finish the game sooner by 18.5 overs to win the game by 6 wickets and 7 balls remaining.

Upcoming hardship

The team's next week is going to be a hard one. It is against Eljamie, the team ranked 6th in the worldT20 and ranked 2nd in the Group A with 2 wins and 4 points. Hebitaka currently ranked 4th in the group, has already lost two matches, but the victory against the tenth world champions Northwest Kalactins, have given the Hebitaki the courage to battle the Eljamie and has proved that even a nation with less cricket can also beat the best teams. The preparation for the next game has already reached the Flurthwel Oval and are practicing hard. "We know it's gonna be hard and the world knows we have the least chance. But this thinking is what giving us the energy as now we just have to play our best in our style without taking the pressure of the outcome. " noted the batting coach.

The Annasholm Sentinel

Sometimes you speak of the thrill of the chase. Sometimes you're the ungainly forest creature fleeing in terror before superior hunters who will gladly eat you for dinner. Rundel were the latter against world number-two Liventia, who contributed in a team effort and were not fazed by several dismissals. Of their eight batsmen who came to the wickets, only Eddie Reynolds and Francis Kennedy put forward less than two runs per ball. Wilk Eutaw had barely settled into his second scheduled bowling stint when a decisive boundary four from Kennedy put Rundel out of their misery; Dreen Perra must have been privately thankful that the carnage ended before he was slated to bowl.

Before that, the top of Rundel's order were in no hurry to be dismissed. Having won the coin toss, Callo Kemdawn unsurprisingly chose to take advantage of the Oval's favorable batting dimensions. "It is what it is," he said fatalistically, "it'd be a rather silly game if it all depended on a coin toss, didn't it, especially those tests that take days and days." Reserve wicketkeeper Loran Dellus, starting in place of a tired Zhobie Bostwa, made the most of his appearance, scoring forty-seven runs and showing no signs of wanting to quit when Rundel's innings came to an end.
