IBS XII: Junior Daskies Shine!
By Nakamura Go (@GomuraOfficial)

-- Welcome back to International baseball! It's Nakamura Go again, ready to review the action on the diamond. This time it's our young talent's turn to play ball, and boy oh boy they delivered! This is the first time for the Junior Daskies on the International stage, a good debut with a 3-0 series win over The Jovannic U21 Red Princes.

The Jovannic U21 Red Princes 0 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 1 4

For this year, we count with REI West Kuji's ace pitcher Kanao Tōru, who delivered an impressing first game. Kanao held the Red Princes for four straight innings, before allowing 3 runs to the top of The Jovannic batting lineup. For many daskelians, this was also the prime time to watch another young future star in the field, and what's more, them forming a formidable battery; Takaoka Kōhei, former catcher and captain of Otoun Gakuin is the starting catcher for the Jr Daskies, one of the best contact batters and leading men on the koukou yakyuu scene. Takaoka played their part on the two runs of the third inning, stealing a base and scoring for Team Daskel after that.

To say the least, the fifth inning was the scariest moment of the game. Kanao lost his momentum for a couple of pitches, giving away three runs in the process. Eventually, with the help of Takaoka, the West Kujian ace finally closed the inning with a grounder to the shortstop, Daskies' captain Genji Motohiro, who also led his high school team, Mizumita Tachibana Minami Koukou, to the Daikyuu semifinals last year. The game ended with Fujimoto, who pitched the remaining innings after replacing Kanao on the seventh inning.

This game had Tomohiro Kadowaki, ace pitcher of powerhouse school Kiten Gakuen, as the team's starter pitcher. Tomohiro delivered a clean game as well, but as Kanao in the first one, things got tough on the fifth inning. It seems like the team has an unlucky 5th, with another three runs scored with an homerun from the Red Princes. However, Tomohiro recovered quickly, sealing the next innings. In the scoring side, 6th inning was the lucky moment for the team: Genji, Ikebata, Seri, Mizuya and Nagae scored back-to-back for the Daskies.

The game was closed by the team's closer for the first time. Nire Kōichirō have quite the unorthodox style of pitching, and many batters have problems reading the movement of the ball. As expected, this time was no exception, and the pitcher finished the inning with another 0 under his belt. This was also the first time Nire is on national television, as he have not qualified to the National Championship with his high school team. Scouts are everywhere, though, and even when Nire is not at a famous school, his talent went immediately under radar.

Ah, we love extra innings, right?

A game who did reactivate PSTD on many daskelians. The bats were silent in a extreme pitcher-dominated game. Akazawa Ryōji was the starter for the game. Akazawa did well for all his innings, giving up only 2 runs that made every baseball fan dissolve into despair into the 6th inning. Coach Sakamoto noticed the path of the game and signaled with caution, playing trademark smallball to overcome the opponent. Team Daskel secured a run on the third inning; Shigeki hit a single, then reached second with a safety bunt. A solid hit from Takaoka finally made the left fielder return back home. The Daskies scored another run on the eighth, a lone run from Genji with a similar strategy from Sakamoto kantoku, even when they were at the top of the order. The young coach send Mizushima Hisashi to the mound right after the tie, all stakes on the win.

Mizushima performed well under pressure, showing off his arm with his trademark fastballs and curveballs. The opportunity for Daskel to end the game finally came on the 10th inning, when Seri hit right to the deep left field. Ikebata returned safely, finishing the outstanding showdown of pitchers with a 2-3 sayonara run win.

After this, Junior Daskies position themselves at the very top of the table. Next game is against the current defending champion's country, Tikariot.

The names on the fronts of the uniforms may have read Loyola University Blue Thunder on the team across the diamond from the Sarzonian Under 21 national baseball team, but no one wearing a Junior Stars uniform shirt, be it a player, coach, manager, or fan made any mistake about the matchup or the stakes involved.

It was Sarzonia vs. Banija in what was fast becoming one of the fiercest multi-sport rivalries in the multiverse. It may not have the same cachet as Sarzonia-Delaclava, but it certainly carried its own weight of history. Edwin Crawford knew that opening with such a huge rivalry matchup made getting off to a strong start of the utmost importance. Quite frankly, even though he'd publicly play off the importance of the opening three-game set against Loyola University, privately, he'd tell his closest confidants, "we can't afford to lose this series."

Fortunately for Crawford and the Junior Stars, they didn't. Nate Kingston made sure of that with a strong seven-inning performance, allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts as Sarzonia took Game 1 of the series 12-3. Cal Zane had to battle through five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout, but shortstop Cristobal Vargas bailed him out with a three-run homer to deep left to put the Stars ahead 6-4. From there, it was Vance Ridge for three innings of one-hit ball. He struck out two and didn't allow any walks, and gave way to closer Ned Creighton to mow down the three Blue Thunder batters in order.

Zane may have been able to battle his way for five innings, but Darryl Shaw wasn't nearly as lucky. Crawford went out and got him after he allowed a grand slam to the eighth hitter in the Blue Thunder batting order after he'd led off the inning with a walk on four pitches. With Ridge unavailable after a three-inning outing the night before, Joyce Khan had to come in to help stanch the bleeding. She allowed three runs in 2 1/3 innings before giving way herself to Tom Crowley. He managed to work through four innings before Crawford gave the ball to lefty Claude Bingham.

"It was a good series, except for Game 3," Crawford said. "We needed the momentum before we face Super Llamaland." When asked if he expected his collection of Sarzonian minor leaguers to have an advantage over the Under 11 team for Super Llamaland, Crawford shook his head.

"They may be kids, but we expect them to be damn good at baseball," he said. "We can't take any of these matches for granted."

STRONG STARTING
Performances from the Lions put them in first place

- Live and Battin’ from the grand city of Pilara, Written by Lon Bennett.
We find ourselves in a wonderful position in the B Group. I should say we dropped a must-win against the Super-Llamaland team-- but we looked better than the Junior Stars. The Blue Thunder of Loyola University scratched out a win, and we ended up 4-2 with a mediocre +6 run differential. We entered the tournament at a strange position: oldest on average in the division. I’ll break down the games for you all.
The First Game: Faced with an 11U team, the Lions decided that they’d give their starters a rest and start their relief pitcher Tyler Barwind. It ended poorly, like most of you all saw, when Mr. Barwind lasted two and two thirds of an inning before he was replaced by our chief long reliever, Gio Antananarivo. The Super-Llamaland Cubs [side note from the editors: what does one call a juvenile Llama?] scored six runs in the disastrous third inning. After that, the flamethrower from Prometheus they call Anta (because nobody can pronounce his last name) held the Cubs to a single run in the fourth inning. Don Van Epps pitched the eighth inning with no action. But, the damage was done; the Lions only managed five small-ball runs off the Cubs’ staff.
Highlight of the game: Scoring in five separate innings.
Lowlight of the game: The Cubs striking out the side in the top of the 5th inning.
Player of the game: Sean Matthews, 4-5: 2 2B, 2 1B, 3 RBI, 1 Run, 0 E
The Second Game: Ensuring that there would be no momentum for the Cubs was paramount. The Lions started Martin Slatek to stop the Cubs; he allowed one run in 7.1 IP. Don Van Epps allowed a run off a walk and two hits in .2 innings, and Erik Ferrasen struck out two to put this game to rest. The Lions scored 3 of their runs off of two Ryan Stohr home runs, and one off of an Eli Dorval sacrifice fly. They looked like themselves in this game.
HoG: Ryan Stohr absolutely ending the baseball’s time on this planet in the 7th inning. The ball came off the bat at about 190 kph.
LoG: That icky, icky, error from Andre Royce at shortstop. It cost the team a go-ahead run.
PoG: Ryan Stohr, the big man on the field. 3-4, 2 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 Runs, 0 E.
The Third Game: Aiming to keep the day bright and happy, NJ Dublin pitched 8 innings with no earned runs. There was another error that let the Cubs score, but 4 runs from the Lions ensured that no harm made no foul. Erik Ferrasen closed it out, facing four batters. Aaron Trask and David Loomis led the offensive production, going 9-for-10 with 3 RBI and 1 HR
HoG: Aaron Trask smashing an RBI triple to score the fifth run.
LoG: Theo Hendricks forging a shiny golden sombrero for himself.
PoG: NJ Dublin: 8 IP, O ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 14 K. Recorded 6 K, 3 ꓘ, 0 H with his Forkball.
And the next day, the Lions arose bright and early to face the Loyola University Blue Thunder.
The First Game: To say they woke up early wouldn’t be true; I didn’t see a ball hit with authority until the 8th inning. The Lions put up a valiant fight, with four runs in the top of the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough to slay the Thunder. Vincent DeClair threw 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits; Don Van Epps and Erik Ferrasen each threw 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings; and Lane Rahoveca allowed one run on two hits in 1.0 innings. The last run came on a series of four base hits, where the third produced an out at the plate, but the fourth was past David Loomis enough for the run to get by.
HoG: Don Van Epps making the ball drop, sweep, slide, and cut for 3 K.
LoG: Lane Rahoveca trying and failing to get the Thunder to hit the ball to any of his teammates.
PoG: Theo Hendricks got back into his groove, going 6-for-7: 4 1B, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 Run.
The Second Game: Looking for the Lions to fall on the fun side of .500, Kyle San Bracero danced his knuckleball all around the plate, allowing a single run off of five hits in 8.1 IP. Erik Ferrasen looked uncharacteristically slow on the mound, and allowed four runs to let the Thunder tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Luckily, the big man Ryan Stohr came through to pinch hit in the top of the tenth inning, and launched the ball 464 feet to left-center to push the two go-ahead runs across the board. Don Van Epps stayed unpredictable and unhittable, ending the game with 2 ꓘ and a ground out.
HoG: Ryan Stohr, who’s challenging the veteran Theo Hendricks for his spot on the right corner by making excellent plays, and pinch-hitting bombs.
LoG: Erik Ferrasen couldn’t get a strike past the Thunder. .2 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 1 BB.
PoG: “Kyle San Bracero & His Magnificent Knuckleball!”. 8.1 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 13 K.
The Final Game: Carlos Sagan looked to ensure last year was a fluke, and did so authoritatively pitching a complete game and allowing one run. The offense shone bright in the twilight of another productive day, putting up a four-run effort.
HoG: Carlos Sagan, the man with a double-digit ERA last tournament, pitching a complete game.
LoG: None. This was the best the Lions looked as a whole, and this gives them some nice momentum for a date with the Sarzonia Junior Stars.
PoG: Joshua Leslie, going 5-for-5: 4 1B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 Run.

Bradley Guo was nervous. After all, he'd never been outside of Nandaozhou before, everyone around him looked much more self-assured than he felt, and - oh yeah, he was a ten-year-old attending a national baseball team tryout.

"Keep it moving!" barked the coach - Bradley was pretty sure his name was 'Buck Fuchs', but he was nowhere near confident enough to call him that without being absolutely certain. The kid in front of him stepped into the batters' box, Bradley took a few hesitant steps in the general direction of the on-deck circle. He watched as the kid - Bradley had forgotten his name already, but he was pretty sure they both played first base - took a few massive swings at the ball, sending some into the warning track. He'd never seen anyone his age hit that far, and he figured that his chances at starting for the time were practically nothing compared to that guy, but maybe he could still get a bench spot.

"Absolute dogshit!" That was Buck(?) Fuchs(??) again, and to Bradley's complete surprise, he was addressing the kid in front of him. "Let's move on."

...Well, maybe he wouldn't get that bench spot after all.

Bradley took the donut off his bat, took a few test swings, and hunkered down in the batter's box. Another coach lobbed a baseball at him, which he hit solidly. The ball stayed down, skipped up the middle, and came to a stop harmlessly in shallow center. The next nine balls were hit the same distance, although scattered across the field. After the eleventh pitch - the kid before him had hit twenty - Buck Fuchs had apparently seen enough. "Next!" Bradley slammed his bat down in frustration and moved onto the next line.

Behind him, Buck Fuchs nodded in approval. "Beautiful swing on that kid. If he lofts it a bit more, all the other tools are there."

One of the other coaches piped up "Yes, the launch angle was a bit low, but we can adj-"

Buck waved him off dismissively. "-This isn't geometry class. But yes, I want that kid starting and hitting cleanup. We have a future star on our hands."

OOC: For the RP question "What are some national dishes or culinary delights of your country?"

Food

So when you and that Nova Anglican fan hit it off and go for a drink and meal, what can you expect? Lots of fish, b'y. Londinium is located in the province of Newfoundland, which has a very strong fishing industry. Fish and chips, cod every way you can think of (tongues are a favorite), flounder, halibut, salmon, and lobster are some of the typical seafood one can expect, though if you're lucky, you might be able to find seal flipper pie, a real treat. For land fare, try caribou, deer, rabbit, or the famous "jiggs dinner", salted beef with boiled vegetables, as well as pickles and beets. For dessert, think figgy duff, a sweet raisin pudding, or one of our many baked goods flavored with molasses.

Eboracum is also a maritime city, so look for a lot of seafood, but lobster especially (and eel is surprisingly popular). Rappie pie is an Acadian tradition, made from grated potatoes with meat broth dripped over it, and various types of sausage can also be found just about anywhere. Eboracum also offers wonderful apples, blueberries, and wine, for those of you looking for something other than meat. Blueberry grunt is a local dessert favorite that consists of blueberry dumplings with nutmeg, cinnamon and sugar mixed in; tourists consistently rave about it.

In Durovernum Cantiacorum, or DC for short, seafood is the prime entree, with a special focus on shellfish. Lobster, oysters, scallops, crab, clams, mussels, you name it, they've got it. For the adventurous, try fiddleheads or dulse. And for dessert, pecan pie with maple sugar is sure to please even the pickiest eater.

In Aquae Sulis, food is much the same as in Londinium and other parts of Newfoundland, but with a heavier focus on game and local produce.

Example of Drinks/Snacks

Lion Brewing Company

IPAs/ESBs: Corner Pub ESB, 5% - Lion goes back to Nova Anglicana's English roots with this Extra Strong Bitter that delicately balances hops and malts; served a little warmer than normal for that real English pub experience

Grizzled IPA, 7.0% - Orange in color, this crisp beer has a citrusy taste up front, but that gradually fades to allow pine and floral aromas to come to the fore.

Her Majesty's Most Imperial IPA, 8.2% - for real hop lovers, the Imperial IPA is a stronger version of a regular IPA that doubles down on the hoppiness to produce a bitter (but not too bitter) beer with strong notes of grapefruit, paying homage to the Queen

Pale Ales: Hunter's Pale Ale, 5.9% - Dark gold and full-bodied, with a hoppy nose and assertive-but-balanced flavors of pale malts and citrusy floral hops from start to finish.

Alpha Male Strong Golden Ale, 8.5% - combines pilsner malts and spicy hops to produce a golden-colored, drinkable ale with a complex mouthfeel.

Ambers/Reds/Ryes: Autumn Amber Ale, 4.6% - Crisp and malty, with subdued hops flavor, perfect for an autumn afternoon

Elder Statesman Rye, 6.3% - this beer is a nod to former Prime Minister Allen Mumford, who was fond of rye beers. Some might call it a bit strong, while others will say the sour rye is just how a beer ought to taste.

Belgians/Farm Ales/Saisons: Mayflower Saison, 6.5% - As you drink, you should detect just a hint of mayflower aroma, Erickson and Co. are proud of that little feat of beer engineering, tastes of spice and slightly bitter and earthy

Notre Maison Biere de Garde, 4.8% - known as "beer to keep or store", you'll want to hold on to this one, an amber to red coloration with a malt-forward taste and notes of toffee, but with subtle hoppiness sure to please the malt or hop-loving beer enthusiast

Fruit/Shandys/Lambics: High Ridge Framboise Lambic, 4.1% - A fruity lambic beer made with raspberries picked directly from Nova Scotia, High Ridge balances the sweetness of a lambic with the tartness of raspberries for an excellent drinking experience

Sunrise Grapefruit Beer, 5.2% - Deliciously pink and tart but not too tart, this fruit beer is refreshing enough to drink anytime

Pilsners/lights/kolsch: Löwe Kolsch, 4.5% - Lion's take on this interesting style from Köln, Löwe is extra gold, extra cold, and perfect for a warm summer's day. Slightly fruity and slightly dry.

Stouts: Lion Stout, 8.8% - The dark caramel, large dense headed brew, with its 8.8% alcoholic content, is unique due to its sweet notes of chocolate and coffee interspersed into a foundation of dark roasted barley

Porters/Scotchs/Browns: High Tide Scotch Ale, 8.0% - named for the tides in Nova Scotia's Bay of Fundy, High Tide packs a wallop at 8% ABV. Sweet enough, but not as much as the stout or the fruit beers. Caramel and malt are the stars here.

Panther Black Ale, 6.7% - this innovative North American beer style combines hops and malts for a unique flavor that mixes caramel and chocolate with notes of citrus and a hint of floral, it represents Lion's search for ever-newer styles

Wheat/Weisse: Harvest White Ale, 5.1% - Made from local wheat and spices, Lion's interpretation of a Belgian witbier is more complex than Lion Lager, but just as drinkable, with fruit undertones.

Lagers: Lion Lager, 4.8% - Golden roasted malt in colour with a hint of fruit and caramel flavouring, it is very slightly sweet with less hop notes, good for thirsty workers at the end of a long day, the flagship beer of the brewery

Octoberfest Märzen, 5.5% - A dark, coppery beer with a full-bodied taste and hints of hops, always served in the traditional Octoberfest Maßkrug

Windfall Cyser, 12.5% -Windfall combines delicious Nova Anglican apples with Newfoundland honey for a twist on a traditional hard cider. Sweet but spicy, with floral notes, honey, and apple throughout, it works very well on its own or paired with hearty, savory fare to balance the sweetness.

Cyser Prices: 6 oz $6, 12 oz bottles $11

Good Old Hooch, 25% - Good Old Hooch is Liqueur de la Mures de la Marais in French, or chicoutai in First Nations parlance, a sweet liqueur made from cloudberries, a type of wild raspberry.

Chicoutai Prices: $3 shots, Clover Leaf cocktails $7, fifth $25, liter $35

Food (Provided by Bacalao of Londinium)

Note: Samples of everything are available

House-recipe chips plate - $4

Jiggs' Dinner rolls - Traditional Newfoundland dish of corned beef and cabbage wrapped up in a soft bread roll with a mustard pickle on the side, $4 individual, 3 for $10

Cod tongues - A Newfoundland delicacy seasoned, floured and flash deep-fried, they are crispy, tender and light, $8

Charcuterie plate - A delicious offering of smoked game meats and cheeses that comes in several varieties. Mix and match 3 of duck terrine, moose sausage, smoked partridge or pheasant breast, elk or venison jerky, and pork liver paté. Pick two cheeses (Brie, Camembert, Roquefort, Havarti, Gouda, Jarlsberg, Gruyére, Cheddar, Monterey Jack) Served with house-made sweet and hot brown mustard, $20

Bacalao with braised pork belly - Olive-oil poached, house-cured/salted Fogo cod with house-smoked crispy braised local pork belly and coffee-mango BBQ sauce, $18

Sometime in the past, but not as far as last time, in Robert Wahlja’s office.

(Robert Wahlja, obviously on the phone, but it isn’t clear who he is talking to) “Yeah, things are going smoothly so far. We have submitted the bid. Nothing really special in there, it’s basically just your standard series-based baseball tournament. Well, I guess the format we submitted for the possibility of 20 teams isn’t exactly common; at least I haven’t ever heard of it being used anywhere else. Huh? Yeah, we are working on it. Of course, where the playoffs are hosted kinda depends on what format is used, but it will be Elephant Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, Ratzupalfu Arena and the Walstreim Baseball Arena. Gosh, this connection is terrible, what was that? Why the WBA? Because Walstreim is important. In any case, the semi in Valley, and the 3rd place series in Newport. Quarters probably in Ratzupalfu and Newport. Rest depends on signups, but certainly one of the earlier series in Valley as well, and probably one in Walstreim too. Maybe not, though. If I talked to the owners already? Uh, guess I’ll have to do that. I’ll add that to the list. But I don’t see a reason why not. What? Where are you even, in a bus? In a bus. Perfect. Why do you even take… Ah, your bus. Makes sense. Anyways, anything else you’d like to know? Yeah, the South Newlandian chances. Probably reasonable, but not that good either. The team just sort of lacks a star, in my opinion, what Hunter took over last time. An important figure. Ah, I figured you’d ask about her. First of all, why not. Second, does anyone else have an Elephant in the team? Thought not. And third, it’s not like she is a totally wasted slot. She can smack a ball, trust me, I’ve seen it. The running’s a different story, that’s fair, but sees it as a gimmick. We may not be over 50, or under 11, but we sure as hell have an Elephant. Competing bidders? Looks like a no on that front. Oh, yeah, that idea. Yeah, I’ve briefly spoken to Elephantson, and she does like it, but you know, the funds. It’s always the money, in the end, isnt it? Anyways, I’ll stay in touch with her; I’ll tell you more about it next time. What? Yeah, I don’t have a lot of time either. Next time, can we meet in person again? Yeah, in person. This connection is awful, so please, just come around; I know it’s not far for you. Alright, have a nice day, we’ll speak again soon.” (hangs up)
(suddenly realizing a young man standing right in front of him, he lets out a small scream)
“What? Who are you, and how did you get in? Get out of my office!” “Promises, you know me. Doesn’t matter. And no.” “Promises?” (the man was looking annoyed, as if he was some kind of well-known superstar) “Promises. Gary Promises. Newport Owls. You know me.” “That sixteen year old guy getting the home runs in the SNBL? The one known to cause trouble?” (Wahlja had additional opinions about the youngster that he choose not to state right now) “Exactly.” “Why are you here?” “The preliminary roster. Why am I not starting?” “Why are you asking me that? You should be talking to the coach, he makes the roster.” “Yet, I’m talking to you. I’m going to be starting.” “That’s pretty bold for a sixteen year old, isn’t it? One good season and you think you’re a superstar?” “I am. Both of those things. I want to see myself on the starting line-up.” “I guess? What did you think I could do for you?” “I don’t care what you do. You are the SNBA president. You’ll think of something. But I will be on the line-up, and this is not a debate.” “I don’t want to call the security, honestly.” “There is no security here.” “Touché. I guess I’m going to talk to Maxbar? But you can also do that yourself.” “I want you to do it. And thanks.” (neither of them says anything for a moment) “You mean right now?” “Yes. Right now.” (Wahlja turns to pick the phone up again, and as he spins to look back into the room, he realizes Promises is gone, just as quickly as he arrived. He starts to dial the number anyway.)

Viljamark

Viljamark is a landlocked province of Tikariot, located in the northeast corner of the country. With a land area of 217,000 km2 (83784.17 mi2) it is the second largest province of Tikariot after Dhaencunor, it's 3.7 million inhabitants it is only the eighth most populous state. Viljamark's main cities are the capital Fort Viljan, Skarraborg and Ravencroft.

The history of Viljamark is closely tied with Græntfjall‌, Tikariot's neighbour to the north. The province also has a unique culture within Tikariot partially due to it being separated from the rest of the nation by the Xarkian mountain range to the west that leaves the northern part of Xark and Soharr as only direct domestic neighbours.

Flag
The Viljan flag is white with a black edged purple Nordic cross with a swallowtail to the right, bearing the Tikariotian colours.

Geography
Viljamark shares an international border with Græntfjall‌ to the north and is bordered by the provinces of Xark and Soharr to the west and south respectively. The border to Xark is marked by the high peaks of the Xarkian range with its foothills dominating most of the western part of the province. Most of the rest of Viljamark is densely forested with some tundra-like climate towards the northern part.

The province is dotted with lakes with Lake Isvind in the northeast and the large Lake Viljan in the northwest being the largest of them. The largest rivers are the Skarraholm River, which originates in the Xarkian Range and then passes the cities of Cyll, Skarvik, Skarraborg and Samojaara until flowing into Lake Viljan at Port Viljamaa and the Arnajoki River that flows from the northern end of the Xarkian range into Lake Viljan at Meshdoy.

Administrative Divisions
Viljamark is divided into seven administrative districts, or läner.

Fort Viljan (Capital: Fort Viljan)
Skarraland (Capital: Skarraborg)
Norrhem (Capital: Norrdal)
Vesterland (Capital: Cyll)
Stalmark (Capital: Navaylar)
Roar's Land (Capital: Roar's Lake)
Ravneland (Capital: Ravencroft)

These districts are further divided into a total of 42 counties.

Politics
Viljamark has a multiparty system dominated by the conservative Viljan Demokratiska Parti (VDP) that holds some ties to the ruling Tikariotian Freedom Party (TFP), but with a strong Viljamarken focus. Other notable parties are the Viljan Arbetarparti (VAP), the Socialdemokratiska Parti (SDP) and De Gröna. One notable absence from the Viljan parliament is the Tikariotian Communist Party (TCP) that traditionally is extremely marginal in the province.

The current minister president of Viljamark is Rickard Södermark from the VDP, who is in his second term of office.

Economy
Viljamark has three main branches of economic wealth, that being mining, logging and tourism. The Stalmark district is home to many smelters for iron and other ores mined in the Xarkian range and then transported to the centres of Navaylar and Stalheim. Main employer in the region is Viljan Minerals, headquartered in Cyll, which is one of Tikariot's major mineral companies, exporting to many nations across Rushmore.

Due to the immense forests covering large parts of Viljamark, the logging industry is a large contributing factor to Viljamark's strong economic standing. All of the large logging companies such as Kvarnstad Lumber, Farjestads Logging and Vesterwood signed a treaty to guarantee re-forestation as one of their core principles to ensure that deforestation could not become an issue.

Finally the rugged nature of the province as well as attractions such as historic Fort Viljan, Skarraborg Castle and the Floating Villages of Lake Viljan make Viljamark a year-round destination for tourists both domestic and foreign.

Demographics
With 17 inhabitants per square kilometre, Viljamark is one of the most sparsely populated provinces of Tikariot, with most of the population living in villages strewn all across the province. Most of the inhabitants are of Viljan Tikariotian descent, with some Bashperian minorities and a sizeable Græntfjall‌er population, one of the largest outside of Græntfjall‌, both due to the geographical proximity and the similar cultural roots.

Culture
The Viljan culture differs distinctly from the rest of Tikariot and in many ways has more in common with Græntfjall‌, especially linguistically.

Religion
While Christianity is the main religion in Viljamark, with a fairly equal number of catholics and protestants, a lot of pagan traditions still hold great importance in Viljan life, especially around the solstices. While eyed with some suspicion, the two main branches of Christianity have decided to, while not openly accepting, ignore the pagan celebrations in a "live and let live" environment.

Food and Drink
Viljans put great importance on food and drink, especially in a family setting or with friends. Due to the relatively cold climate only certain crops grow sustainably in Viljamark, such as potatoes or other root vegetables such as beets, making them staples in the local cuisine. In the north near the big lakes Isvind and Viljan fish is one of the main ingredients in many dishes, while in the rest of Viljamark hearty meat and vegetable dishes are very popular. Viljamark is also known for its pastries, which are renowned throughout the whole nation and beyond.

Image
Classic examples for Viljan cuisine are Fiskar Stew (a rich stew made with various fish, often salmon and white fish, potatoes and onions), cabbage rolls with various fillings, slow cooked beef roast with a rich brown gravy, cabbage and potatoes, fried herring or thick meat-filled pancakes.

Traditional desserts are thin pancakes with berries, rich cheesecake and cinnamon buns.

Especially Christmas time has several special traditional dishes, such as the Julskinka (a cured baked ham), ginger snaps, speculoos, filled baked apples or Glögg, a mulled wine.

There also is a variety of beers and spirits to keep Viljans warm during winter, with local specialties including Bärvin, a fruit spirit distilled from berries, and Mossun, a liquor distilled out of a species of moss native to Viljamark.

Language and dialects
Viljamark is one of only four provinces with a second official language besides English, the others being the Cardannon Archipelago, the Bashperian Darklands as well as parts of Xark. Viljar is part of the Nordic languages and just like other parts of Viljan culture has ties to Græntfjall‌.

Sports
Just like the rest of Tikariot, various sports are highly popular in Viljamark. The two main sports are football and hockey, the Fort Viljan Northern FC has been a long-time member of the Tikariot Premier League, but was relegated to the Tikariot Second League last season, while the province has several team in the Tikariot Hockey League, namely the Fort Viljan Warriors, the Skarraborg Tundra Thunder, Ravencroft Talons, Meshdoy Saints, Cyll Red Hawks, Istafyr Raiders, Samojaara Wolves and Solcor River Marauders.

The Fort Viljan Northmen participate in the Tikariot Baseball League, the Fort Viljan Raiders and Ravencroft Wolves in the Tikariot Lacrosse League and in the Tikariot Gridiron League the province is represented by the Fort Viljan Forsaken and the Ravencroft Horde.

IBS XII: The half report
By Nakamura Go (@GomuraOfficial)

DAITO C8SPORTS OFFICES-- Good evening, Daskel. Nakamura Go with you again, to make a quick review of the action on the International Baseball Slam XII.

Series 1 - The Jovannic U21 Red Princes0 vs 3 Daskel U18
This series was everything a daskelian fan could dreamed of. The first 3 games for the young team Daskel were wins, positioning themselves on the top of the Group A. Pitchers were outstanding this series, with good performances from both the rotation and the bullpen. Balls went flying in the first two games, but the 3rd game broke the custom, with a extensive pitcher duel on extra innings.

"I was so relieved when Ikebata scored the sayonara run" said Mizushima, who owned the mound for the last innings of the game "It was one misstep and we lose out streak. Seri is such a reliable batter, it felt really good to have him in this kind of situations"

Series 2 - Tikariot U21s 1 vs 2 Daskel U18
This series brought the first international loss for the Junior Daskies. Inukai Hiroshi didn't have a good day, and could not recover after losing the 2-3 lead on the fourth inning. Fujimoto Kazuki received the mound and finished the game without hits against him, but the offensive could not score runs afterwards.

The next two games were wins for our Daskies, both in really close scenarios. Coach Sakamoto shown his typical chess-like decisions that ended being crucial for the game, for example, the risky squeeze play in the fifth inning to take the lead of game 2., which ended with Nagae sliding to safety back home. This game was the only one until known with runs against the national closer Nire Kōichirō. Nire came back in game three, this time securing a zero on the ninth innings and with it, the win.

Series 3 - Daskel U18 0 vs 3 Abanhfleft Revolution All-Stars
After two astounding series in the road, the junior Daskies fell to the Abanhfleft Revolution All-Stars, losing all three games and, with it, valious points on the table. Although the games started well for our national team, the lack of consistency and the expectations on them now playing at home made the team crumble to pressure, making unforced mistakes that took its toll. The last game of the series was especially hard, when the Jr Daskies lost a 4-0 lead build during the entire game in 3 consecutive innings. "We didn't play our usual game" said Kōguchi Shōji, who played in that terrible game "we made a lot of mistakes. There's no need to accuse each other; everyone knows, everyone did. My own ball four ended with a massacre, and we were tense, we played in this very field a couple of months ago with our high schools and hell, this field is sacred. It hurts to lose here, and I swear the next time we'll win in this dirt. We all love the Daiyo Kyuujo, and want to demonstrate it intensely with good baseball in the next series"

After the first three series, Daskel U18 sits second on the standings. After a good rest day that marks the half of the group stage, Jr Daskies will play against The Jovannic U21 Red Princes, this time at home. Will the promise carry? Let's find out on the next game. The road for the playoffs already started!

Terre Septentrionale in 1st place in group C after 9 games

Yamaska, Haute-Yamaska - Terre Septentrionale is in 1st place in group C with 5 wins and 4 losses in 9 games, but only one win separates us from the last place. The first series was played against Lisander and the Nordiques won 2 games on 3. In game 1, Arminhos de Lisander scored 3 runs in the 1st inning but the Nordiques rallied in the 8 innings when Katarina Radovnikovic hitted a 3 runs homerun and the final score was 5-3 Terre Septentrionale. Lisander won game two 6-5 and we won game three 4-2.

The second series was against Newmanistan's under 16 team. They scored 8 runs in the 1st inning and won 10-6. Hunter Kloehn allowed 7 runs in 1/3 inning before being kicked out. The Reprezentacja Nordycki lost the 2nd game 7-2 and won the 3rd one 7-1, thanks to a two runs homerun from Logan O'Rourke in the 4th inning. Marie-Anne Galarraga (1-1) was the winning pitcher.

Terre Septentrionale was back at home for the 3rd series, played at Parc Wloszczowa Wodka, sponsored by Wloszczowa Wodka, and won two games on 3 against Ethane. In the 1st inning, Urska Trstenjak scored on Katarina Radovnikovic's double and Carson McGinness hitted a two runs homerun to take a 3-0 lead. The Nordiques won 7-3. Hunter Kloehn was the starting pitcher for the 2nd game of the series and the team lost 9-7. He allowed 4 runs in 1 and 2/3 inning. With his two starts combined he's 0-2 with 11 runs allowed in 2 innings. Then for the 3rd game of the series, Travis O'Rear was the starting pitcher and we won 5-4.

The series against Newmanistan and game 2 against Ethane was disappointing, but the Northmen are still in 1st place. Series 4 will be at home in Portneuf-sur-Mer against Lisander. Then, the Nordiques will travel to the west side of Terre Septentrionale to play against Newmanistan's under 16 in Trzebiegoszcz. The last series will be away at Ethane. Hunter Kloehn (0-2, 49,50 ERA) has been demoted to long relief and Ciaran McCaffrey will take his spot in the rotation.

Starting pitchers vs Lisander: Marie-Anne Galarraga (1-1), Louis-Philip Jolicoeur (2-0) and Ciaran McCaffrey (0-0)
Starting pitchers vs Newmanistan: Travis O'Rear (0-1), Marie-Anne Galarraga (1-1), Louis-Philip Jolicoeur (2-0)
Starting pitchers vs Ethane: Ciaran McCaffrey (0-0), Travis O'Rear (0-1), Marie-Anne Galarraga (1-1)

Can South Newlandia reach South Newlandia?

The first half of the group stage of the 12th International Baseball Slam has been played, and so far, the South Newlandian team has delivered a calm, solid performance, sitting in a three-way tie for first place with a 5-4 record. Things are clearly going decently, but not great – the team has not recorded a sweep yet, but hasn’t been swept either.

First series: at Nova Anglicana Lions
The first game, with Jay Kramer on the mound, went exactly as South Newlandian fans had hoped. Three early runs within the first inning after Gary Promises had homered on the very first international pitch he was thrown, also bringing Oliver Landry and Shawn Zimmerman through. Kramer gave the lead right back in the 2nd, but remained on the mound. After the 7th, South Newlandia was back in a 6-4 lead, and the closer, Ian Capan, got though the last three innings without a run given up. The icing on the cake was a 4-run inning in the ninth, thanks to a Promises triple and some more hits.
Game two saw Michaelson on the mound, and also saw the South Newlandia bats go cold. Promises went 0 for 4, and the team didn’t get any runs in nine innings, dominated by the opposing pitcher. Michaelson gave up two early runs, and a flawless performance for Svojarnsson didn’t save the team.
Game three was the first ever South Newlandian international game with a female player on the mound for South Newlandia, and Maike Bookmer did what she could to make the day even more historic. In eight innings pitched, she allowed no runs, three hits, and two walks on 11 K’s, and Capan managed to throw another three batters out in the 9th to win the series. Two runs had been enough to win the last game.

Second series: against Hampton Island Over-50s
Jack Beard was on the mound for game one, and after five innings, everything seemed to be going smoothly. They were up 3-0 after a home run for Zimmerman in the second, but then, the South Newlandian U22s gave their lead away. Beard gave up five runs in the next two innings, and in the end, South Newlandia was on the short end, 4-6, after the closer Svojarnsson gave up another run in the ninth.
Jay Kramer was back on the mound for the second game, and it was another one where the South Newlandian bats were silent for long. Trailing 0-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, a homer for Larsen brought South Newlandia the lead. Capan allowed an equalizer in the 8th, but a walk-off three-run home run scored by Jeremy Moss, a man that had never scored a home run before, won the game for South Newlandia.
The last game was pitched by Michaelson again, and he started the game by giving up three runs up for the first three batters. He was pulled per his own request, and Patrik Bryant took over. He gave up two runs in the 4th, but after a three-run inning largely thanks to an important double for Smiths, South Newlandia was in the lead by 5-4. Svojarnsson blew it, giving up a run each in the last two innings, to put the South Newlandian team at 3-3.

Third series: at Falisiand
Bookmer was on top of the rotation now, and proceeded to pitch eight scoreless innings again for an ERA of 0 over 16 innings. Giving up four hits and two walks this time, on 10 K’s, she carried South Newlandia to an 8-0 lead into the 7th. Five runs in the second game had already set up the team well, and no one minded that Capan gave up three runs in the ninth.
Just like in game two against Nova Anglicana, the bats went ice cold in the second game. No runs were recorded for South Newlandia, and two early runs given up by starter Beard sealed the South Newlandian defeat. A flawless save by Svojarnsson, retiring six straight batters, didn’t help anymore.
The last game of the first half saw Jay Kramer on the mound again, and he pitched six excellent innings, and a seventh one where he gave up two runs. The South Newlandian batters exploded in the 6th, going through the entire line-up once and recording six runs to take a 10-run lead at the point. Going into the bottom of the ninth, South Newlandia held an 11-2 lead, but Falisiand was not planning on giving up. It took Capan a while until he ended things, but the 11-6 win still got South Newlandia back above 0.500.

Postby Super-Llamaland » Sat Oct 10, 2020 2:12 pm

The LBA had hired Buck Fuchs a coaching staff. They'd sent out offers to all the U21 and U18 coaches, all of whom immediately turned it down. The IBS, having only recently been restarted, had lost some of the prestige that it held to Super-Llamaland in previous iterations. While it was still a great opportunity with a normal team, most of the coaches didn't want themselves attached to a bunch of eleven-year-olds being humiliated. Ultimately, they found some overeager college students, a few little league coaches, and LBA President Owen Duffy's son, Greg.

They had told Buck Fuchs, in no uncertain terms, to try his best to delegate. After all, he was in his late eighties, and the travel schedule between Esportiva, Atlantean Oceania, and Lasagna was quite daunting. Buck Fuchs, in what he would later describe as a rare moment of weakness, acquiesced. And so, it was Greg Duffy who would give the welcome speech to the U11 team that would represent Super-Llamaland during the IBS qualifiers.

"You know what I see when I look at this so-called 'baseball team'?" shouted Greg Duffy. "I see a bunch of ten-year-old girls!"

"I'm actually eleven," piped up Fiona Wu.

"That doesn't-" Greg's indignant response was cut off from the corner of the locker room by Buck Fuchs. "You're trying too hard, Greg."

"You said I should hyp-"

"No, I said you should get them excited. Get out of here, Greg."

"...Actually, you know what? All of you coaches, get out," Buck Fuchs growled.

The entire coaching staff balefully walked out of the locker room door.

"That's right. I didn't need you then, and I don't need you now. Listen up, gentlem-boys and girls. Inner AginanaUsordia may just be a faraway nation with a funny name to all of you, but they are a team of grown men. And if we don't fight, they will kill us. They're bigger, faster, and stronger - and that means we have to be smarter and better. Not just a little bit, either. All of you - every single one of you - needs to be absolutely perfect, or we will go 0-18, and none of you will ever play baseball again."

"...Cubs on three!" offered young Elijah Tatum.

"Absoutely not. 'Cubs on three' is for winners."

Cardannon Archipelago

The Cardannon Archipelago is a group of islands approximately 100 km off the coast of Balkash in the very southwest of Tikariot. With a land area of 45,000 km2 (17,375 mi2) it is the second smallest province of Tikariot ahead of Frahaul, with 492 thousand inhabitants it is the third least populous state. Viljamark's main cities are the capital Pharaeo, Varakoula and Ravenstone.

The history of the Cardannon Archipelago is one of many occupants, even though none lasted very long due to the rebellious spirit of the native Cardannian tribes. They enjoy a fairly autonomous state within Tikariot, leaving many issues in the hands of the provincial government, which is the only one in the nation that is predominantly formed by the Cardannian United Tribal Party (CUTP), which does not run in any other provinces.

Flag
The Cardannian flag is a horizontal flag bicolor with equal bands of black and turquoise, with a white, equilateral triangle at the hoist. The turtle is the national animal of the archipelago and is considered a sacred animal among the tribes. The five eight-point stars represent the five main tribes that inhabit the archipelago.

Geography
The Cardannon Archipelago consists of over 40 islands, not all of which are inhabited, though. The main island is called Mokupuni Honu, which translates to Turtle Island from the local Cardannian language, and the capital Pharaeo is located here as well. The volcano Mauna Ahi (meaning Fire Mountain) is located in the eastern part of the island and is one of the most active in the whole region.

Many of the islands are flat and densely forested with Mauna Ahi, a small mountain range in the south of Mokupuni Honu and one large mountain in the centre of Akoula Island being the only elevations worth mentioning.

Administrative Divisions
The Cardannon Archipelago is divided into four administrative districts, coinciding with the four largest islands.

Mokupuni Honu (Capital: Pharaeo)
Akoula Island (Capital: Narracis)
Manavi (Capital: Caracaea)
Raiaka'a (Capital: Iperadon)

These districts are further divided into a total of 17 counties.

Politics
The Cardannon Archipelago has a multiparty system dominated by the native Cardannon United Tribal Party (CUTP), which is a unique situation within Tikariot. The overall ruling Tikariotian Freedom Party (TFP) forms the largest minority. Most other Tikariotian parties have offices in Pharaeo, but none have achieved any notable results.

The current prime minister of the Cardannon Archipelago is Tanielu Tonumaipe'a from the CUTP, who is currently in his first term of office.

Economy
Due to their tropical climate, the Cardannon Archipelago's main income is from tourism, with many facilities available across the islands. One of the legal requirements to receive a licence to operate any touristic facility is to ensure sustainability and minimal invasion into the natural habitat of animals and plants.

Agriculture and fishery also are two additional branches with the main exports being coconut (copra) and the highly regarded Akoula vanilla that is one of the highest graded vanilla species in the world.

Demographics
With not even 11 inhabitants per square kilometre, the Cardannon Archipelago is one of the most sparsely populated provinces of Tikariot, with most of the population living in small towns and villages across the islands. The vast majority of inhabitants come from the local tribes and while the natives are very hospitable and friendly only few "mainlanders" have settled down permanently.

Culture
Due to its isolated location, the Cardannian culture is very different from the rest of Tikariot and very heavily influenced by the purely tribal past of the archipelago.

Religion
While Christianity and other religions have a small following on the islands, the multitheistic nature-centred tribal religions are the main religious group in the archipelago.

Food and Drink
Image
Eating is often a family (or tribal) affair, with large tama'ara'as hosted on the beached and under palm trees, many using the ahima'a oven that is dug in the ground, especially on the weekend. While the food is slowly cooking in the oven, there often are festivities of some kind happening, with contests and games between families and different tribal members.

As with most island nations and provinces, fish and other seafood are the predominant ingredients in Cardannian food, which comes in every imaginable preparation from raw over steamed, barbecued, roasted to stewed. Due to the tropical climate coconut is an important ingredient as well and surprisingly pork.

Image
Classic examples for Cardannian cuisine are raw fish, known as ia ota, which consists of raw tuna, lime juice, various vegetables, and coconut milk. Among the dishes prepared in the ahima'a are Chicken Afa'ahu, which is simmered in a creamy coconut milk/arrowroot sauce and served with sweet potatoes, or pork wrapped in banana leaves together with fruits and vegetables.

The traditional beer of the Cardannon Archipelago is Taufa'a lager, brewed locally, while rum also is very popular, with the local brand Matai being exported into mainland Tikariot and beyond. Inspired by local ingredients (coconut, banana and vanilla), tropical cocktails are very popular in resorts.

Language and dialects
While the majority of Cardannians understand and speak English, the tribal languages are predominant across the archipelago. One interesting detail is that despite there being technically five different languages between the five big tribes, they will understand each other speaking their respective language.

Sports
While football is a popular sport in the Cardannon Archipelago, with the Pharaeo AFC and the Varakoula Warriors representing the islands in the Tikariot Second League, a lot of native sports are enjoying as much, if not more popularity. Wrestling, outrigger canoe racing and rugby are very popular among Cardannians and rival football.

IBS XII: Triple 7 Lucky 7
By Nakamura Go (@GomuraOfficial)

DAITO METROPOLIS-- Nakamura Go again, oh I'm delighted to write this to you all. The fourth series of the International Baseball Slam finished with a huge recovery from the last series, with our junior Daskies winning all 3 games in front of the eager Daskelian fans.

Playing in the Daikyuu is always a full fletched ball of emotions. Growing up in this country, every child's dream is to play one day in the old, historic stadium, in front of more than 1 million viewers, in the packed stadium, and televisors around the country. High Schools, local stores, offices; Every comes to a half if the high schoolers are playing the most famous tournament in the country. Even more famous than the professional leagues!

This time, team Daskel did overcome their last deficit, in score and confidence. They won all three games with seven runs each, and every member of the starting lineup scored at least one run against The Jovannic U21 Red Princes. The first game had a very exciting moment, when our slugger and fourth batter Seri Tadahito hit a grand slam homerun, directiy into the Stadium famous scoreboard.

"This felt so amazing" Told Seri to the press "We made a promise last game, and we are a team of honor -laughs-. That was an opportunity and I'm happy with the outcome, happy that I could take it and score 4 for the team. Now, every game is a step on this difficult journey. We're one at a time, and we're getting ready for the next series against Tikariot"

Falisiand U22 Baseball News

Postby Falisiand » Sun Oct 11, 2020 2:11 pm

As the 5th MD series of IBS comes to an end, the Falisiand U22s are stuck in a 3 way tie with Nova Anglincana and Hampton Island, tomorrow will be the final matchday series where the Falisiand U22s face the top seed and familiar foe, the South Newlandia U22s, who eliminated them in IBS XI, on the road, with this new, but not as talented roster representing the Falisiand U22s, even though Falisiand has struggled in this division, so has South Newlandia, because if we sweep them, they can get eliminated, so this is a do or die for both teams, so both teams will be playing at their hardest.

"Thanks for coming to this meeting, Buck," Llamanean Baseball Association President Owen Duffy opened gamely. "Take a seat." Buck continued to stand.

"We've been following your progress with the, uh, U11 team at the International Baseball Slam XII group stage. Taking that group to a 12-3 record is absolutely incredible, and the fact that you've been able to achieve such dominance with this kind of team speaks volumes of your managerial ability. I mean, eighty-one runs scored? Forty-four runs allowed? A 6-0 record against the Sarzonia Junior Stars, who were media favorites to win the group? Just unbelievable work."

"..."

"...So, as you know, there's an open managerial spot on the senior national team. We know you resigned as hitting coach after the last World Baseball Classic due to stylistic differences, but if you were to take the position, you could have a fair share of control over roster selection and team strategy. We were wondering if that's something you'd be interested in."

Buck thought a beat, then replied - "Sure."

Owen Duffy paused as well, but for different reasons; he hadn't really expected Buck to take the job. "So, uh, sounds like you've got some plans for the WBC roster then."

"Well, I'd probably just bring my U11s, to be honest. They've been much better than Rasmussen's all-stars could ever achieve."

"...Sorry, Buck, but with all due respect - your U11s have done great, but they're doing so against other nations' youth teams as well. Hardly the cream of the crop. Besides-"
