RP information:

You may begin posting Rosters and Roleplays now. A roster is typically a list of the players in your team, but you can go into as much detail as you like. Here are some examples from IBS11:
OK roster
Good roster
Very good roster

As the IC hosts of the knockouts, Tikariot and South Newlandia have a few rules about roleplays of the host nations that we hope you to follow. Namely, there are no pandemics in either South Newlandia or Tikariot, and we would appreciate if you could keep it that way. You can still have things like empty stadiums or travel bans for your own nation, but others not want to roleplay about pandemics at the moment. The other rule is to please not kill anyone in our countries without permission. Most things can be talked about; if you have an interesting idea that you aren’t quite sure about, it never hurts to send us a telegram or a message on discord.
Because the Group Stage isn’t held in the host nations ICly, you can also include information about your home stadium, or stadia. You should also include a Roleplay Permission Box, so your opponent knows what they can Roleplay about:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes/No
Choose my lineup: Yes/No
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Eject my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Use DH at home: Yes/No

You are pretty much able to do as you please if you are the first one roleplaying a game, but be aware that each nation has a set of rules, called RP Permissions, and they look like this:
Choose my runscorers: Yes/No (Can they choose who scored your runs?)
Choose my lineup: Yes/No (Can they pick a starting lineup at will for you, or must they stick to what you have created?)
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes/No (Can they opponent choose any pitcher, or are they supposed to follow your rotation to a tee? It can be good to check their prior game RP to see if they mentioned their starting pitcher for the next game as well).
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No (This allows the opponent to be very detailed and specific when describing how scoring events transpired).
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No (Is the opponent allowed to say your player got hurt? Some nations will say yes with a disclaimer of only saying they are hurt, and not saying what was hurt or how badly someone was hurt.)
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No (Can the opponent completely do whatever they please in regards to injuries)
Eject my players: Yes/No (Is the opponent allowed to eject your players?)
Godmod other events: Yes/No (Other events refer to unusual or crazy things, such as, perhaps, the outfielder's arm was suddenly able to extend 50 feet and they took away your potential HR. Some nations that may be open to crazy things but do not want to be caught off guard may add a disclaimer to TG them any ideas first)).
Use DH at home: Yes/No (Every baseball fan's favorite argument. Is the DH used at your home stadium?) (You are allowed to follow whatever rule you prefer for your own home games, but for the away games, you will need to follow the preferences of your opponent. In knockout games, the better seeded team will get to choose in games 1 and 3 (and 5), while the lower seeded team gets to choose in game 2 (and 4). For more information on the Designated Hitter, look here.)
Other: (Are there nation specific tendencies that you want your opponent to abide by? List it here). An example is: Newmanistan is very aggressive on the basepaths and speedy baserunners are commonly looking to steal both second and third. Contrary, South Newlandia rarely steals bases, and typically has contact hitters. This is the place to put that information.
Note: If your opponent has roleplayed the game before you, you are expected to roleplay it the same way, although you still can have some flexibility: For example, did your opponent RP a three run double, in one inning.... that really should have been called foul? Did the umpire blow a called strike three on the opponents’ big slugger before they hit the big homer? Those are things you can still have flexibility with.
(Special thanks to Newmanistan for letting us use his explanation from the WBC49 thread)

If you have any questions, please feel to ask them! Both Tikariot and South Newlandia are reachable by Telegram or on Discord, or you can answer your question in the signup/OOC thread for all to see.

South Newlandian IC info

In a nutshell

South Newlandia is a small Esportivan island with about four million inhabitants, located approximately between Vdara and Lisander. South Newlandia is known for democracy, elephants, regulated capitalism and environmentalism, and the friendly population will be happy to help you out if you run into any problems.

Before you arrive

If you plan to visit South Newlandia, there are a few things you should be aware of beforehand. Laws on imported goods are rather strict, and things you’d expect to not be allowed to take into other countries are usually banned in South Newlandia as well. Examples for this include dead animals, living people unwilling to enter and bombs of any kind. The same regulations will also apply if you go to leave the country again. Special note should be made of South Newlandian drug laws. While all drugs, and this means all drugs, including alcohol and tobacco; are decriminalized in South Newlandia; this does not mean you are allowed to deal drugs. Selling or giving away drugs for any reason is strictly banned; this includes, again, alcohol and tobacco. However, you are allowed to take any drugs you want to without punishment, and are allowed to own any that are only for your own consumption. You are probably going to be treated like an addicted person though, so people might attempt to get you professional help to fight the addiction they perceive you to have. In short, you are allowed to take any drugs into South Newlandia as long as you can convince officials that you aren’t addicted to them and do not intent to sell them. Bribing South Newlandian officials is basically impossible; border control is a very well-paid job in South Newlandia.

Getting around
Getting around inside South Newlandia isn’t a huge problem, it is often more difficult to arrive in the first place. That’s the case with all islands, but South Newlandia has rather few flights and ships exiting and entering, mostly because of environmental regulations. If you do arrive in South Newlandia, you are likely near the coast or even on an island now; your options are mostly Elephant Valley, Newport, Walstreim, Kinjestad or Ineton. When you arrive, the probably best options are the multiple high-speed trains that can get you almost everywhere in the country fairly quickly. Unless you want to go to a really remote place, you can probably expect your journey to your destination to take two hours at most. If you want to connect between two of the big cities, like from Walstreim to Ratzupalfu, you can expect it to be even quicker. If you don’t like trains, for some reason, there are also busses and cars to rent, but the streets aren’t always in perfect condition, and are far less convenient, to be honest. Flights inland are banned in South Newlandia, with the exception of the daily plane to Dragon Island, flying cargo and people between Masmow and Newport, and back. But you don’t need to do that for the IBS games. If you want to be mobile within a city, you can rent bikes for free, or you can take the underground if you are in a bigger city and the bus if the city is smaller. There are also busses and rental cars in the bigger cities, but unless you really need to, we wouldn’t advise you to use them. The bus is slower than the underground, and the underground gets you pretty much everywhere within a city. Cars can get very inconvenient because they are banned in many areas, and where they aren’t, there are rarely any parking spots. Seriously, don’t try to drive a car in South Newlandia. Most of the citizens don’t either; a lot of them don’t even have a license.

Dangerous animals
There are some wild animals in South Newlandia, but they will generally don’t disturb you if you don’t disturb them. Basically, just stay on the outlined paths in the forest and don’t do anything to anger animals, and you’ll be fine. Most of South Newlandias wild animals are friendly, like the elephants, for example; in the unlikely event that you meet a bear, probably the most dangerous animal you could meet in South Newlandia, in the woods, you should follow standard bear safety guidelines. In any emergency, you can message or text the number 123 to get immediate help, or the number 321 if you just need less urgent, but still important advice.

Summary
Don’t be a douche, leave the animals alone, don’t try to use a car, maybe calm it with the drugs, and most important of all, use your brain. Following those simple guidelines (dacdb) gets you a long way already. Enjoy your stay!

The stadiums and their cities

Despite only hosting 5 series in the International Baseball Slam, and not even the final, South Newlandia as a whole is looking forward to finally staging international games with other participating teams. Three stadiums will be used for those games, namely the following:

Elephant Stadium (Elephant Valley, Elephant Valley) Capacity 15.000
The Elephant Stadium, located in the capital of South Newlandia, is the biggest and most well-known baseball stadium in South Newlandia. It was the primary ground for the home games of WBC48 - At the time, the stadium had only 8000 seats, and it has been upgraded since. Elephant Valley, at about half a million inhabitants, is the biggest South Newlandian city, and located near the west coast. This stadium is also home of the Elephant Valley Homers, the biggest baseball team in South Newlandia.
(Ro11: Quebec U22s vs. Hampton Island Over-50s)
(The Semi-final)

Dolphin Stadium (Newport, Northeast) Capacity 12.500
The home of the Newport Dolphins, newly built Dolphin Stadium, is the second biggest baseball arena of South Newlandia and directly adjacent to the port. Newport, on the East Coast of the country, is one of the richer parts of the country, and also among the ones growing the fastest, with many young businesses operating from here. The Dolphins have, in recent years, stepped up to be a regular playoff fixture.
(QF: Super-Llamaland U11s vs. TBD)
(The series for third place)

Ratzupalfu Arena (Ratzupalfu, Southern Central) Capacity 10.000
Home of the Ratzupalfu Rhinos, the Ratzupalfu Arena is one of the most storied stadiums in South Newlandia. It is pretty much right into the woods, and some call it the “Jungle Stadium” Playing here is a special feeling, and the stadium has also been upgraded recently. The Rhinos won the SNBL last year, and the fans and atmosphere was definitely helping their case. This may change after the South Newlandia U22-team just got sweeped out of here to fail to reach the knockouts. They will likely be more sad than angry about it.
(Kohnhead U21 Pandas vs. Falisiand U22s)

If you need any additional information, feel free to drop me a telegram or a message on discord. Most everything can be negotiated, I don’t bite, I promise :D

Tikariot IC info

Tikariot at a glance

Tikariot is a nation in Rushmore of approximately 52 million people, bordering The Kytler Peninsulae to the west, Græntfjall to the north and Weatherdon to the northeast. It has 15 provinces ranging from nordic continental to tropic and everything in between. Despite having a thriving economy, Tikariotian businesses are bound by strict environmental laws to preserve the country for generations to come.

Before you arrive

While being a quite liberal country, there are some restrictions on what is allowed to be brought into the country. Hard drugs are forbidden as are any kind of weapons or endangered animals (dead or alive). Alcohol and tobacco can be brought into the country in limited quantities. Main port of entry is Port Rhovanyon International Airport, also the hub for Tikariot Owlways.

Getting around

Tikariot is a fairly large country, but has a very well developed transportation network. Tikariot Owlways operates several daily flights between all provincial capitals with some provincial subsidiaries taking care of flights to smaller destinations. There also is a high-speed train network connecting the larger cities, mostly powered by solar energy, making them a viable alternative to aviation. Most big cities have very well developed public transit with both underground and light rail trains, buses, bike rentals and more, encouraging Tikariotians to leave their cars at home. In the more rural areas trains and buses will connect with smaller communities as well.

Wildlife

Large parts of Tikariot are wilderness, be it the large forests of Viljamark, the plains of Taeria or the subtropical forests of the Emerald Coast. There are clearly marked roads and paths in these areas, straying from them could result in encounters with wild life, friendly or hostile, the worst of which is the dangaroo. Breaking environmental laws is met with strict fines.

Cities and stadiums
Northland Park (Fort Viljan, Viljamark), Capacity 21,000
Home of the Fort Viljan Northmen of the Tikariot Baseball League. Nestled at the edge of Lake Isvind (ice wind in Viljan) it a quaint little stadium that has a very unique feature, which is heating underneath the seats powered by geothermal power, taking the bite off the often cold winds coming in from the lake.
(Ro11: Inner AginanaUsordia Lions vs. Tikariot U-21s)
(Final)

Skarraborg Dome (Skarraborg, Viljamark), Capacity 18,000
Located in Skarraborg, the second largest city in the Viljamark province, the Skarraborg Dome is normally home to the Skarraborg Tundra Thunder of the Tikariot Hockey League, but serves as a multi purpose arena. Due to the often unpredictable weather local authorities decided to build a covered complex to ensure year-round sports.
(QF: Terre Septentrionale U24 Nordiques vs. TBD)
(Semi final)

Sabrehead Stadium (Samakar, Bashperian Darklands), Capacity 17,500
Home of the Samakar Sabreheads, this stadium is located in the capital of the Bashperian Darklands, the traditional home of the Bashperian tribes. With overall warmer weather than in Viljamark, the stadium does not have the luxury of heated seats, but then again, it does not really need it either.
(Ro11: Abanhfleft Revolution All Stars vs. Arminhos de Lisander)
(QF: Daskel U18 Junior Daskies vs. TBD)

It's not often a grizzled veteran manager talks about learning lessons from a previous edition, but that was exactly what Sarzonia Under 21 national baseball team manager Edwin Crawford was talking about during his initial press conference before the 12th International Baseball Slam.

"We didn't start out with a large enough bullpen," he said. "I figured we'd probably do with a four-man or even a three-man rotation if needed and send a couple of the starters off to the bullpen and then ramp up a little bit for the knockout stages. We soon found out our bullpen was extremely taxed and that we needed the full five-man rotation."

Crawford is back with the Junior Stars, both with a five-man rotation and a six-man bullpen. He said he learned from trying to rely on just four pitchers to do the work of what he admits would probably have been seven or eight guys.

"Look, we're still a little bit short of where we'd like to be," he admitted. "I'd like a full eight-person bullpen, but we had to start out with six. We might add a couple more arms if it becomes necessary. I just hope it doesn't become necessary too early."

The Junior Stars said they've acclimated themselves to their new ballpark Khalil Dennis Field in Portland, although the October weather in the northern part of the Cyanea continent might get a little bit dicey in terms of temperatures.

"Our guys, their guys, we'll all be blowing on our hands between pitches," ace starter Nate Kingston said. "Fortunately, the ground rules will allow us to do that even with guys on base."

During the previous edition, the Junior Stars advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Starcom in a decisive third game of their best of three series before being swept by South Newlandia in two straight matches. Tikariot eventually won the finals three games to one.

For Crawford and company, the Junior Stars hope their fortified bullpen, plus having everybody available after the minor league season ended two weeks ago will be a big time boon.

"We don't have to worry about guys getting too tired; a lot of guys got some good rest and they're raring to go," Crawford said. "That's going to be a big help."

Kohnhead U-21 Roster
Nation Name: The Galactic Empire of Kohnhead
Shortened: Kohnhead
Trigramme: KND
Nickname: The U-21 Pandas
Record: 0-0
Team info: After okay performances from the main team at both the IBS and the WBC last cycle the U-21 team will be sent to the 12th IBS. Again the baseball team is the only team not nicknamed the Brains and the U-21s have rolled with the Pandas nickname. Expectations are tempored as we are only a pot 3 team but with some luck we could advance past the group stage.

Starting Pitchers
Allan Fox (20) RH - Fox is a flamethrower with accuracy and stamina issues. While he can get up to 97 mph on his pitches faster than almost every player on the national team his accuracy issues are well documented. He is a streaky player so he will follow a shutout with a 7 runs in 2 innings performance.
Duncan Park (17) LH - The southpaw Park is the future of the team. He has all the tools to be the ace but still has to develop in terms of everything especially control. He can get quite flustered at random times and so like Fox he is a streaky pitcher.
Oakley May (19) RH - May does not have even average speed with her best fastball clocking in at 90, instead she relies on control, and offspeed pitches with a variety of other pitches. She throws a change, a curve, a screwball, and a slider quite well.
Teddie McBride (20) RH - I'm going to be honest, McBride doesn't bring that much to the table and I have serious doubts as to why he was chosen for this number 4 spot. He has three pitches, a fastball, changeup, and slider but his slider is definitely a work in progress.
Blake Tomlinson (18) RH - Tomlinson is an incredibly raw starter and there was talk that he would be moved to the bullpen for the IBS. He clearly wasn't but he has ideal speed and all the physical tools to succeed. He probably isn't going to pitch well but he will always have flashes.

Bullpen
RP Kara Conroy (19) RH - Conroy is probably the second best pitcher in the bullpen at only 19 years of age. She if needed can go 3 innings and that can be very useful if a starter has a poor day.
RP Rosemary Velez (20) LH - Velez is only really here because she is left handed. She is probably the worst pitcher on the team but will be brought in for left handed situations
RP Shane Manning (18) RH - Manning is the second best middle reliever behind Conroy and is best suited for the 7th inning with lower pressure. Manning has a good fastball but not much else at this point.
RP Moses Levy (20) RH - Levy is the third right handed middle reliver behind Manning and Conroy and for good reason. He has a good changeup and some other offspeed pitches but is wildy inaccurate.
Set up man Andrea Bellamy (20) RH - Bellamy is the guy to turn to in the 8th inning right before Lane. Bellamy has a good slider and fastball and is a sidearm pitcher which will often surprise hitters.
Closer Maddy Lane (19) RH - Lane is the best pitcher on the team and can be that closer every night. She has the stuff required and will almost 100% be on the Pandas roster for WBC 50 although maybe not as the primary reliever.

Optimal Starting Lineup (with DH)
1. CF Alvin Clayton (20) RH - Clayton is your ideal center fielder and lead off hitter. He has a high on base percentage, good speed, good contact, limited power, a so-so arm, and good range in center field.
2. 3B Izabella Fitzgerald (18) LH/RH - Fitzgerald is a switch hitter and can go deep when necessary. Her biggest plus is of course being a switch hitter and she is overall a good hitter. She has an okay arm for a 3rd baseman but very bad fielding skills and is a canidate to lead the team in errors.
3. RF Cory Atkinson (19) LH - Atkinson is your typical right field power hitter who hits third in the lineup. He will get the most home runs and rbis on the team yet at the same time he will probably strike out the most swinging for the fences. Atkinson is however a better fielder than Dudley so when we play without a DH he switches over to left field.
4. DH Callie Dudley (20) RH - Dudley is an extremely good hitter who also hits for power in the 4 spot but is highly slow and cannot field very well. However her power in the lineup is essential so she plays out in right field when the pitcher has to hit.
5. 1B Megan Lewis (18) RH - Lewis is the last of the big three power hitters in the 3-4-5 slots. Lewis however has better plate vision than the other two and while she has lots of power she will also be one of the top members in walks.
6. SS Gordon Hays (20) RH - Hays has the quick hands and good arm at short and is overall just okay at the plate. He won't go yard very often and his best contributions come from the field as he is the team's best in the field.
7. 2B Fabien Norris (19) LH - Norris is a hard working, great leader, and skillful in the clutch second basemen. His hitting skills are still a bit questionable and he has no power what so ever but he is constantly trying to improve and is a great leader. He's a guy you want on the team for more than just his baseball skills
8. LF Wayne Quintero (20) RH - The third of the three outfielders, Quintero possesses good speed, a good arm, decent range, and not much at the plate. While he doesn't normally strike out he has a tendency to hit a lot of ground balls and short pop ups.
9. C Cassandra Day (19) RH - And batting last, the catcher Cassandra Day. Catchers get little to no love in Kohnhead and despite how difficult the position is most people fail to appreciate catchers. Cassandra Day is not a good catcher, nor is she a good hitter. However the backup situation is even worse so she is the starter.

Starting Lineup without DH
1. CF Alvin Clayton
2. 3B Isabella Fitzgerald
3. LF Cory Atkinson
4. RF Callie Dudley
5. 1B Megan Lewis
6. SS Gordon Hays
7. 2B Fabien Norris
8. C Casssandra Day
9 . Pitcher

The Bench
IF Oliver Wharton (20) RH - Wharton is a good utility guy to have on the bench as he can play any of the infield positions but catcher. He will be the guy on the bench who plays the most and will be brought in as a pinch hitter the most.
OF Payton O'Donnell (18) RH - O'Donnell is our backup outfielder on days when Quintero is playing so when the DH is allowed. O'Donnell has speed but a weak arm and is overall very eh at the plate.
C Aaron Ventura (20) RH - There's a reason Cassandra Day is the starter, the backup situation is horrid, Ventura does not belong on a U-21 team yet here he is.
SS/2B Deborah Sweet (19) LH - Sweet is just another player on the bench who has decent upside but probably will barely play during the tournament.
RF/1B - Jules Wise (20) LH - Wise is actually an above average hitter on the team yet he cannot field for his life. Considering we alreaday have Callie Dudley as the go to DH, Wise will sit on the bench.

Team Overview

As the national high school baseball is a phenomenon in the country, the Junior Daskies have always had a place in people's hearts and minds. After the incredible event that is the national championship, some of the high schoolers have already some star status, and many people wants to watch them in action. U18s are usually from the last three years of secondary education; Players of 16, 17 and 18 years of age, the majority with some national championship experience under their belt. This year, rookie star Kanao Tōru, who also was part of team Daskel in the last WBC, accepted the title of first starting pitcher of the team.

The Jr. Daskies play in the Daito Kyūjō, one of the biggest and oldest stadiums in the country. the "Daikyū" has a capacity of 60.000 attendants. Its trademark feature is the all-dirt infield.

Baseball in Daskel

Baseball is one of the most dominants sports in Daskel. However, baseball history didn't start with it's professionalization, but with a rapidly developing high school baseball federation. Baseball in Daskel started around 1909, when the sport arrived to the coasts of Kuji Bay. Since it's insertion, it spread through every prefecture of Daskel, creating a vibrant culture of colors, sounds and, of course, loads of baseball. The natural course of the activity lead to the creation of the "Federation of Daskelian High School Baseball", who watch over pesky head coaches, rough kiddos, and tiger parents who strive to see their children turn into the next professional baseball phenomenon.

The National Tournament is held every year in November, start of the Daskelian Summer. In that tournament, 30 schools teams battle in the burning sun, not only defending the pride of their high school, but also the pride of their entire prefecture. It's usual occurrence that other prefecture teams cheer for their final representative, in and out the stadium.

One big custom of Daskelian baseball is to bow in front of opponents before and after the game, and we'll absolutely see that in this tournament. Watch out for daskelian fans! They know how to make a good atmosphere, bringing music and entire brass bands to the stand.

South Newlandian roster for the 12th International Baseball Slam

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: Yes, within reason
Follow my pitching rotation: You can decide who pitched; within reason.
Godmod scoring events: Encouraged!
RP injuries to my players: Yes
Godmod injuries to my players: TG or Discord in advance, please.
Eject my players: Yes
Godmod other events: TG or Discord in advance, please.
Use DH at home: Yes
Things that are specific to South Newlandian hosted games:
Please do discuss any weird stuff with me; I am reachable basically all hours on discord or per telegram, and I don’t bite. Please do not bring pandemics into South Newlandia, and please do not kill any South Newlandians.

Complete Roster

Coaching staff
Manager/Head Coach: Matteo Maxbar (30)
Pitching coach: Jean-Luc Conrad (33)
Hitting coach: Victor Lo (31)
Athletic trainer: Valentin Metcalfe (28)

The coaches are exactly the same ones from two years ago, when South Newlandia participated in the 11th IBS in Super-Llamaland. Despite disappointing domestic results for Maxbar, which saw him fired not from one, but two teams in the same season, he was kept for the U22-team.

Starting pitchers
(SP1) Jay Kramer (20, R)
(SP2) Michael Michaelson (19, L)
(SP3) Maike Bookmer (20, R) F
(SP4) Jack Beard (18, R)

Jay Kramer is, next to Conroy, probably the most well-known pitcher in South Newlandia, and is returning from an excellent IBS11 and a strong Classic. He is expected to carry the pitchers a lot, but the pressure might start to get to him eventually. The other pitchers, Michaelson, Beard and Bookmer, aren’t as well-known, but Bookmer is definitely notable for being the first female pitcher for a South Newlandian team. She isn’t here because of that; she might be the best talent of the other three. Jack Beard is excellent with very hard fast-balls as well, but he gives out far too many walks at the moment.

Relief pitchers
(Closer1) Ian Capan (21, R)
(Closer2) Stef Svojarnsson (19, R)
(Middle Relief) Gostaf Sjabard (21, L)
(Long Relief) Patrik Bryant (20, R)

Two pitchers return to the bullpen from the last Slam, Capan and Bryant. While Bryant, as all Relief pitchers, doesn’t often get a lot of innings, Capan has made a name for himself as a decent closer. As is tradition in South Newlandia, the closers usually switch every game, and typically come in or the last two or three innings. Sjabard really wants to be a starter, he certainly has the skills especially with a nasty curve-ball, but he just isn’t good for a full game just yet.

Starters in batting order
(LF) Oliver Landry (19, R)
(CF) Shawn Zimmerman (19, S)
(2B) Sophia Smiths (21, L) F
(RF) Gary Promises (16, S)
(1B) Wota Radinka (21, R)
(3B) Mitch Sneider (20, R)
(SS) Jeremy Moss (18, L)
(C) Fred Burn (19, R)
(DH) Mike Larsen (20, S)

Once again, you might recognize a few names here; multiple of those guys have IBS or even WBC experience. Shawn Zimmerman was in Super-Llamaland already and played for the team in the last Classic, as your regular contact hitter with comparatively little offensive power, just like most South Newlandian batters. Fred Burn, Mitch Sneider and Mike Larsen all have similar stories, either as a bench or full position player in the Classic. Sophia Smiths also has been to both of those tournaments, and made history at the time for being the first female player to play for South Newlandia. Of course, Gary Promises also needs to be mentioned. The sixteen year old power hitter from the Newport Owls is very good at clobbering homers, and at drawing walks. While he is a very good player, he is also known for causing trouble off of the field. If the team plays without DH, the pitcher takes the last slot instead.

Bench
(Catcher) Hugh Marquez (20, R)
(Infield) Malika Bains (19, R) F
(Infield) Zarah Yu (20, R) F
(Outfield) Yousuf Conway (20, R)
(Outfield) Nelson Avila (18, R)
(DH) Maria (8, Trunk) F, and also an elephant

These guys aren’t particularly interesting. Different to the South Newlandian football teams, the baseball teams never rotate a whole lot, so the reserve six probably won’t see a lot of action. Two things are notable here, with Yu and Bains being possible female talents, and of course, we have to talk about Maria. Maria is a relatively normal eight-year old fully grown zoo elephant. When she was little, around one year old (and only 264 kilos light!), she was given a baseball bat and was pitched to by her zookeeper, a former baseball player, for fun. It was soon apparent that Maria has a talent for hitting the ball really far. Of course, she is an elephant, she can’t really play baseball. She cannot catch or accurately throw a ball, and getting her to walk to bases often requires some patience. She was named as reserve Designated Hitter mostly just for fun.

Stadiums

The home games for the South Newlandian U22 in the group stage will be split between three stadiums, with each one hosting one match series of three games. These three stadiums are the same three that have also been hosting the group stage series in the last International Baseball Slam.

Elephant Stadium (Capacity 15000; Elephant Valley, Elephant Valley)
The game against the Nova Anglicana Lions will be played here (Matchday 4).
The Elephant Stadium, located in the capital of South Newlandia, is the biggest and most well-known baseball stadium in South Newlandia. It was the primary ground for the home games of WBC48 - At the time, the stadium had only 8000 seats, and it has been upgraded since. The team is historically really good here, never having lost a three-game series to date here.

Dolphin Stadium (Capacity 12500; Newport, Northeast)
The game against the Hampton Island Over-50s will be played here (Matchday 2).
The home of the Newport Dolphins will also get to host a series in their relatively new built stadium. Newport, on the East Coast of the country, is one of the richer parts of the country. The stadium is all new, and directly adjacent to the port.

Ratzupalfu Arena (Capacity 10000; Ratzupalfu, Southern Central)
The game against the Falisiand U22s will be played here (Matchday 6).

Complete Schedule
Tuesday, 6th October: @ Nova Anglicana Lions; TBD
Wednesday, 7th October: vs. Hampton Island Over-50s; Dolphin Stadium
Thursday, 8th October: @Falisiand U22s; TBD
Saturday, 10th October: vs. Nova Anglicana Lions; Elephant Stadium
Sunday, 11th October: @ Hampton Island Over-50s; TBD

"Hey man, welcome to the team!"

"Thanks for having me! Really excited to work in Tournament Entry Records, and I'm really grateful for the opportunity."

"Yeah, of course. What department did you say you were in before this?"

"Well, I was in Tournament Withdrawal Records, but since the comeback we haven't been doing much of that anymore, so they decided to transfer me over."

"Great! Well, for your first assignment, I'd like you to sign the U-21 team up for the International Baseball Slam."

"Uhhh...sorry, are you not going to train me first?"

"What do I look like, your boss?"

"Anyways, I'm sure it's similar stuff to the Tournament Withdrawal Records. The form's been sent to your inbox already, so just fill that out and we'll be good to go!"

"Sorry, are you not even going to check my work or anything?"

"Ha! Classic Tournament Withdrawal Records ex-employee. Just fill the form out, send it through our incredibly labyrinthine processing system, and send that over to Nova Anglicana to enter our U21s in. What could go wr-"

Nova Anglicana IBS XI Roster

Nickname: Lions
Acronym: NOV

More detailed roster preview

Stadium

Queen Charlotte Park (25,000) in Isca Dumnoniorum
Image

Queen Charlotte Park is the other newest park in the NABL, the home of the Isca Town Greens. It has recently undergone a green retrofit, and boasts solar panels and carbon neutrality. It plays neutral, favoring neither hitters nor pitchers.

Park Factor: 99

Hosting: South Newlandia

Dosco Stadium (22,500) in Pons Aelius
Image

Dosco Stadium is named after the former government steel corporation that used to be based out of Pons Aelius decades ago, and currently hosts the Pons Aelius Mariners. The park leans towards hitters overall, but is actually fairly good at suppressing home runs.

Park Factor: 108

Hosting: Falisiand

Sousa Field (21,000) in Noviomagus
Image

Sousa plays hosts to the Newfield Express, a middling team in a bustling city. The Express are often overshadowed by the football team Newfield FC, but their stadium is a great experience. It definitely suppresses offense.

Park Factor: 90

Hosting: Hampton Island

Nova Anglicana IBS XII Roster Preview

Who are the players of the Nova Anglicana national team for IBS XII? More than likely, you've never heard of any of them, unless you're a die-hard, deep-diving, NABL fan. For this tournament, due to the heavy WBC workload plus NABL season, and a desire to preserve the health of top prospects, the Nova Anglican Multiversal Baseball Committee decided to select players between the ages of 22-25 who have not appeared in the big leagues. Additionally, they asked teams for players who they didn't see as future major league regulars who could benefit from more development. This means the team is composed entirely of minor leaguers and minor leaguers who would struggle to be the last player on the roster. The NAMBC is looking to test their development program, hoping they can turn them into productive big leaguers.

Officially and simply, the team is called the "Nova Anglicana IBS XII national team". Unofficially, the team has been dubbed the "One and a half trick Ponies", meaning players who can do one or two things well, but are far from complete players. Far from being derisive, players on this team embrace the name as motivation. Andy Barrett, who is only 22, says he agrees with it: "There aren't that many guys that get to the majors, and guys with holes in their game rarely do. We all know we've got holes in our game, so we're happy to buckle down, get coached up, and patch those holes so we can be big leaguers. Improvement is the name of the game." So, meet the "One and a half trick Ponies".

Note: Often complete baseball players are referred to as "five-tool players", meaning they can hit for average, hit for power, are fast, play good defense, and have a good throwing arm. The players on this team possess one or two tools at most. Compared to the average Nova Anglican, these guys are light-years ahead at playing baseball, but compared to the big leagues, they are well below average. Below we will define the tools or "tricks" for both hitters and pitchers and show which players possess which tools. Please note that just because a player "lacks" a tool, doesn't mean they are completely useless in that area; it's just not a strength for them.

Pitchers' Tools/Tricks

Velocity: How hard can you throw the ball? Not a guarantee of success, but harder throwers tend to have more success, all else being equal.

Movement: How far up/down or side-to-side do your pitches move? It doesn't matter if you can throw it 100 MPH, if it's straight and flat, hitters will catch up to it and you'll be in trouble. Movement is essential to getting hitters off-balance or to swing and miss.

Control: Can you throw strikes? Pitchers with inconsistent control will walk the whole ballpark. Often this comes from a delivery that is inconsistent or hard to repeat.

Command: Can you put the ball where you want to? This encompasses not only throwing strikes, but placing the ball in the parts of the strike zone where it is difficult for the hitter to make good contact. The difference between throwing a pitch that's a meatball and one that's "nasty" or "filthy".

Stamina: How far into the game can you go? Although the modern game requires starting pitchers to throw fewer innings, having someone who can throw seven innings on a regular basis is incredibly valuable, as it saves your bullpen. Additionally, if you have good stamina, your pitches won't get worse as you get deeper into the game. For relievers, the ability to pitch two or three innings can be key, especially if you have good stuff as well.

Batters' Tools/Tricks

Average: How many hits do you get? Traditionally the gold standard for measuring hitters, average is less important now, but still valuable. The name of the game is to not make outs, and getting hits is still the number one way to do that. Hitting a baseball is hard, and those who can hit safely consistently are incredibly valuable.

Power: Can you hit for extra bases? While average is important, if every hit you get is only one base, fewer people will score that way. Hitting the ball farther means you advance more bases and so do runners on base. The key test of power is how many home runs you hit. Chicks dig the long ball, after all.

Patience: Can you take a walk? Although not one of the traditional five tools, patience is increasingly important. Hitters who can recognize the difference between a ball and a strike and get on base are essential. Even if you hit .300, if you don't walk, you're giving away outs to the other team.

Speed: Are you fast? Although speed is being de-emphasized in the modern game, fast hitters who are good at stealing can put themselves into scoring position in key moments, beat out infield hits, take the extra base, or rattle pitchers or fielders who have to worry about this ability.

Defense: Can you field your position? Players who are able to cover a lot of ground to get to balls, and players who rarely misplay balls hit to them can take away hits, which is crucial in close games. This tool or "trick" also encompasses the ability to position yourself on the field based on where the hitter is likely to hit it or the pitch type, as well as outfield route running/reaction (what path you take to the ball or how fast you get going can take away hits or limit the number of bases a player can take on a hit).

Throwing Arm: Can you throw it fast and long? A good arm can be the difference between a hit and an out for an infielder, or a run or an out for an outfielder. Some positions require more of an arm than others. For example, shortstops and third basemen have longer throws to first than second basemen. In the outfield, right fielders often have good arms, because they have a longer throw to third base if runners are trying to advance from first to third on a hit.

Postby South Newlandia » Mon Oct 05, 2020 1:12 pm

Sometime in the past, in some office in the ministry of health

“You want to do what?” The South Newlandian minister for health, also typically responsible for sports, was stunned. “Host,” answered Robert Wahlja, president of the South Newlandian Baseball Association, “Or bid, at least.” “Are you insane? Surely you can’t do that. Are you serious?” “I am always serious, except when I’m not. I want to host the 12th International Baseball Slam.” The minister had a thousand questions, but he decided to ask the first one to come to his mind. “What even is that?” “A small baseball tournament, running every other year, whenever there isn’t a World Baseball Classic. You know what the WBC is, right?” “Of course I do. Anything I need to know about this Interregional Baseball Smack?” “The International Baseball Slam, also called IBS, is mostly a tournament for youth teams. South Newlandia competed with a U-22 team about twenty months ago, when the knockouts were held in Super-Llamaland, and finished 4th.” “You are kidding me. There is no way that’s the acronym.” “I didn’t choose it.” The minister took a moment to collect his thoughts. Then, he asked the question that seemed the most obvious to him. “Why?” “Why not?” “Touché.” This was, without a doubt, ridiculous. There was no way that Wahlja was serious. “Oh, by the way, I’ve decided to contact to contact the responsible people in Tikariot about it in your name” “Are you fnoword kidding me?” Of course, Tikariot was, different to South Newlandia, not just some small island. They had the infrastructure, and probably the money as well. The nation had historic trade ties with South Newlandia as well. There was just one small problem. “You talk about the nation that literally competed in one Classic ever? That joined in on the international fun just under two years ago? Which, by the way, is only one year later than we did? Who in the multiverse would ever trust two nations that young to host literally anything with double digits in the name?” “From what I’ve heard, there would hardly be any competing bidders. Most of the big teams don’t really care about it. Tikariot does – they won the last edition – and I do.” “Well, if there are no competitors, I guess we would have a chance. Alright, let’s ignore the fact that that’s a bad idea for a second – what would we actually have to do in case we win hosting rights?” “Not that much, actually. The group stage is held in the participating countries, so that’s nine home games; three series of three, same as everyone. In the knockouts, that would be between five and eight hosted series, best of three games.” “That really isn’t all that much. You said that hardly anyone cares about it, so the small stadia of South Newlandia would be acceptable?” “Believe me, the stadia of South Newlandia are the perfect size.” “Even for the final?” “The final would be in Tikariot.” “Good. Wait a second – how do you know that if you just contacted them?” “Did I say I just contacted them? I contacted them about two months ago. “Are you kidding me? What did you tell them I said?” “I said you are fine with it.” The minister was absolutely livid. Did Wahlja really think he could just do that? Or worse, was he also correct in thinking that? “Sigh. I guess I am. But still, don’t you dare do that again. Anyways; what’s in for us? What can we gain through that?” “I knew you would ask that. Prestige, first of all. A successfully hosted small tournament opens opportunities for less small ones. And tourism and stuff like that. Selling tickets. Encouraging people to pick up sports. You know, the usual stuff.” “Sigh. I guess. If you really want it that much, I probably won’t be able to change your mind anyway. What do I need to do?” “Absolutely nothing, if you give me the permission to handle everything from now on.” “Sigh. Alright.” “Can you give me that in writing?” “Yeah, if you leave me alone then.” “Thanks, minister.”

Preview for the Group Stage of the IBS: Group E:

For the first time in history, South Newlandia was not drawn into a group, but instead seeded ahead of time. As the hosts, they were just put into Group E, but they would’ve been a top seed anyway thanks to a decent run into Super-Llamaland, with the semi-final that broke South Newlandian hearts against now-co-hosts Tikariot; an experience they had to relive just one year later against Hapilopper in the Round of 16 game five of the WBC. The team has lost a few key players from that time due to them being over 21 now, but the team contains quite a bunch of capable players, among them pitcher Kramer, and capable batters, such as Zimmerman, Smiths, Larsen and Sneider. Among the more uncertain players are Owls-youngster Promises, a player known for causing all kinds of trouble, on and off the pitch, and the Elephant.
From pot two, the Nova Anglicana Lions have joined the group. They missed the knockouts by inches last time, despite a 10-8 record. The nation that won the 48th Classic is eager to make it to the knockouts this time, and with the players being a bit older than the South Newlandians, they are certainly among the favourites to advance as well.
From the 3rd pot, a familiar foe appears: The Falisiand U22s are a team the South Newlandian U22s have already battled two years ago, in the group stage of IBS11. Not only that, but the schedule aligns in the same way as well: South Newlandia will visit Falisiand on matchday 3, and host on the last one. At that time, South Newlandia took five of six games against Falisiand, which played a big part in them missing the knockouts as well after a 9-9 record that just wasn’t enough. To expect this encounter to be as easy again would be naïve; the team from Falisiand can certainly be a dangerous opponent as well.
Last but not least, we have the oldest team in the competition: The Hampton Island Over-50s. Hampton Island, our Esportivan region-mate, is known for doing well with older players, even qualifying for the World Cup that way. They are also known for a certain bear, which according to our sources isn’t 50 quite yet and likely won’t be playing. The “regular” teams of both nations met in the Group Stage of WBC49, with the two splitting the games evenly 3-3.
It certainly will be an interesting group to watch, but South Newlandia should be able to make it into the knockouts here again. If a team can be called the most dangerous opponent, it would likely be the Lions, thanks to their players being in the primes of their career.

"A team of eleven-year-olds!?" Justin Mendoza, the prospective manager of the Llamanean Under-21 national baseball team, was incredulous. LBA officials had immediately visited him to inform him of the clerical error, but the young manager was predictably apoplectic anyways."You want me to manage a goddamn team of eleven-year-olds!??!?"

"Well, some of them are nine or ten, but-"

"Oh, great. sOmE oF tHeM aRe NiNe Or TeN. That'll help me soooo much against- who did you say we were playing again?"

"Uhhh, we've got a 'Junior Stars' team from Sarzonia, a university team from Banija, and a team from...Inner AginanaUsordia."

"Two teams from WBC champions and a team of twenty-five fully grown men. Forget it. How did you even send in a team of eleven-year-olds!"

"There was a clerical err-"

"Great! A clerical error. When I interview for my next job, and some LBL General Manager asks me why I went 0-18 in the International Baseball Slam, I can tell them it was a clerical error. They'll be sooooo understanding of that. After all, managerial openings here are so famously non-competitive."

"Justin, I know you're mad, but there's some great talent here! Uhhh, Elijah Tatum could really be a future star, and young Owen de Vries has a nice fas-"

"Yeah, he'll be a future star, alright. Problem is, when he becomes a future star, I'll be sixty-five, unemployed, and destitute because I blew my first job so hard. I don't have time for this. What you need is a miracle worker. Mendoza out!"

"...'Mendoza out'? This is your house."

As soon as he'd left Mendoza's house, the LBA official looked down at the worn business card he'd been handed a few weeks earlier and immediately left to rot in his pocket.

Likely thoughts when looking at this list of players:
I have not included a batting order. (Because it will be different in every game)
I have not included a pitching rotation. (Because we will not follow a strict rotation)
You can’t have that many people on a roster. (Only 25 people will be activated for a game)

Questions you probably have:
Why? This is a U-18 team, so unlike some nations who are probably here to win a tournament, team Cassadaigua is here to develop players. If we win, great. But the comparison for what we’re doing here is like MLB Spring Training.

So if I RP against you first, who do I pick?
Anybody. But have it make sense. Start players in their appropriate positions.

Are certain players considered better then others, at least?
Yes. Players higher on the list for each position are considered better.

What about starting pitchers?

Starting pitchers will not pitch more then five innings. Even if they have a perfect game going.

Isn’t your senior team all switch hitters? Why aren’t these people all switch hitters?
They have not fully established themselves hitting from the other side yet.

Why haven’t you included stats?
Because they would be high school stats; which mean .480 BA’s and the like, so since it’s not useful, no point in making up the numbers.

Tikariot U-21 Roster
Trigramme: TKT
Nickname: The Junior Owls
Record: 0-0
Team info: After winning the International Baseball Slam XI with their senior team in their first ever international outing and then reaching the Round of 16 of the World Baseball Classic 49, Tikariot now are sending out the Junior Owls to the first ever tournament Tikariot is (co)hosting.

COACH
Manager: Graham McCrory, 50 - Very experienced with young players after having been a journeyman 2B man during his career. Normally coaches the senior team, but requested to lead the youngsters into the tournament.

Starting Pitchers
Milford Craven (19) RH - Ilmarcess Inishmores
Despite only being 19 years old Craven already spent some time in the majors with Ilmarcess, even if just as part of the bullpen. He is seen as the player that could succeed De'Andre Stevens as Tikariot's prime pitcher. Already with a wiked fastball and great slider, his main issues lie in decision making and communication with the pitcher. On a good day, though, he can pitch the best out of the stadium.
Rick Gallows (20) LH - Tovaca Tigers
A leftie with four different pitches, none of which he is fully mastering yet, but just the fact that he can be very unpredictable for the batters is his biggest plus. Consistency is still an issue and genius and insanity lie close together.
Fredrik Christensen (18) L/RH - Fort Viljan Northmen
Tall and powerful. This is two words that sum up Fredrik Christensen. The Fort Viljan Northmen pitcher is a very rare breed, as is is capable to throw with both arms, even though he does prefer his left. The ability to completely throw opposing batters off their game outweighs his deficiencies with accuracy and nerves.
Stu Consigliere (17) RH - Fort Cafragilis Warriors
Younger brother of the seniors' team's Blair Consigliere has incredible raw talent, but definitely lacks consistency. Fastball, change-up and sinker show signs of brilliance, but in between that wild pitches have plagued his minor league career. It is a gamble to play him, but Graham McCrory hopes that it will pay off in the end, giving him more experience.
Cam Seeley (20) RH - Seycardhu Saints
Has the accuracy to hit a lit match, but has severe power and stamina issues. Which means that at the beginning of the game he is capable of striking out batters by the dozen, but unfortunately it does not take long until his arm tires out and the game has to be handed over to the bullpen.

Bullpen
RP Raymond Suarez (20) RH - Xanark Sluggers
There have been voices that Suarez should be in the starting rotation rather than Seeley as, while not as accurate, Suarez has far more consistency in his play with a strong curveball and slider.
RP Fawad Abubakar (19) LH - Acrassia Eagles
Abubakar has an incredibly fast fastball that is capable of surprising even seasoned veterans, but outside of this he only has a passable curveball and beyond that things begin to get even sketchier.
RP Ishmael Poroaro (20) RH - Ceramadhion Vipers
Fastball, slider, curveball, sinker, Poroaro has them all in his repertoire, however his success is strongly dependent on the quality of the catcher receiving the pitches as his aim is still all over the place and some critics have said that whichever team he plays on should think about hiring an octopus as catcher.
RP Usman Colak (20) RH - Morannon Militia
Despite his young age, Colak has a tremendous calm and almost never gets flustered. His slider and splitter are good, but not excellent and he is basically a two-trick pony for the time being.
SUR Nick Frey (20) LH - Meriador Mudhens
Very dependable as set up reliever, but nothing flashy, highly efficient, though. If the game is on the edge, he can calm the waters and get things prepped for Lomar.
CL Spencer Lomar (20) RH - Anhedron Arrowheads
Pitcher with the most TBL experience so far, having been a regular in the Arrowheads bullpen in the last season. Has good to very good fastball, slider and curveball and just the accuracy his position requires.

Starting lineup (with DH):
1. SS Joao Alvarado (19) RH - Imyalore Archers
Very aggressive at bat, likes to swing hard. Has the disadvantage that he will be struck out more often than other batters, but has the advantage that when he connects, chances are that it is a homerun or at least a multi base hit. Lacks a bit of mental quickness in defense, but has a strong and precise arm.

2. LF Jason Horfield (20) RH - Avanaroch Nightwatch
Kind of best of both worlds, good at bat and good defensively, but not outstanding in either. Can read the game well, though, and has a surprisingly high hit percentage.

3. 1B Nathan Moncaleano (20) LH - Emerald Coast Phantoms
May not have the greatest power at bat, but has amazing vision that allows him to hold his swing when the ball is just outside of the window, leading to a lot of walks. Good, solid first baseman on the defense side.

4. 3B Eamonn Hensworth (18) RH - Samakar Sabreheads
Hensworth is a case of "risk management". He is an absolute power hitter, but the strength of his arm is questionable. Might be moved to 2B to alleviate some of these deficiencies.

5. CF Paul Horkoff (19) LH - Tikariot City Thunderforge
Maybe the fastest player on the squad, which aids him with reaching balls that he normally should not be able to. Also good arm, which is essential for a centre fielder. Decent at bat, but again his speed allows him to both reach and steal more bases than average.

6. 2B Daniel Norris (20) RH - Port Balkash Seagulls
Defensively at times a liability with focus issues which leads to dropped balls, but when he swings, he swings. Home-run leader in the minor leagues and too much offensive upside to discredit is sometimes error-prone performances.

7. C Gavin Mora (17) LH - Paladon Sorcerers
Surprisingly good batter for a catcher, can hold his own in the line-up, but despite his young age he is one wicked catcher that can compensate for quite some of the accuracy issues of the pitchers.

8. DH Zachary Kruger (19) RH - Esmora Cove Rangers
Another power hitter with horrendous fielding. Can hit the ball hard and precise, also has good speed, but when it comes to catching and throwing a ball, he is not exactly useless, but a lot of other options should be explored before putting him on the field.

9. RF Wilbur Crowley (20) RH - Oriannor Mountaineers
Shaky offensively, but very, very good in the outfield. Has the speed and arm to make him predestined for life in the field. Has yet to hit a homerun in his career.

Reserves
OF Julius Hartington (19) RH - Eivora Cropdusters
Good speed, amazing accuracy and strong arm, solid at bat, but far from a power hitter.

OF Angus McCreary (16) LH - Valghis White Eagles
Youngest player in the squad, good eye for the ball and strong swing, but lacks some stamina for the long balls. Alright arm, but will require a "relay man" to get the ball all the way to the bases.

IF Luke Morningstar (18) RH - Samakar Sabreheads
Great utility player that can play anywhere in the infield, and well, but his biggest issue is his nerves that get the better of him, when it goes into crunch time.

IF Andrea Bertonelli (20) RH - Silicon Triangle Wizards
Great arm and precision, but often kind of vapid when it comes to swinging.

C Ernie de Haan (20) LH - Baraldhur Behemoths
Very solid catcher that is very attentive when it comes to stolen bases. Can have a few issues with the wilder issues, also solid offensively.

Northland Park, Fort Viljan, 21,000 capacity.

Postby Falisiand » Mon Oct 05, 2020 9:47 pm

Falisiand once again will participate in IBS after a brief period of nothingness

C: Mason Mckinney ( all around player that is good enough to make headlines)
1B: Hugh Beasley (pure contact hitter with decent fielding and speed, not much power though)
2B: Warren Matthews ( power hiiter that is to similiar Amaan Pruitt, but the reports say he's not as electrifying though)
3B: Mesa English (Falisiand 3rd basemen usually seem really good at defense and Mesa is no exception, but he's a better hitter than most 3B too with power and contact, work on the speed though
SS: Frazer Hunter (makes a deadly left side with Mesa, his defense makes the left side almost unhittable, but he's not good at the whole hitting thing)
RF: Hugo Shepherd ( another power hitter, he has a few contact issues, but is actually pretty fast on the base running)
CF: Abdul Zuniga (Abdul has a lot to prove, having the potential superstar player with his body, strength and vitals being almost perfect for the sport, but he is a bit of a prototype player because those skills haven't shown consistently, he is a risk to have in this team)
LF: Haroon Knapp (His family has been known for their baseball talent for decades, he is a legacy baseball player who is pretty good all around, but can he live up to his All Stars creator of a family)
DH: Chester Sheppard ( Great amount of contact, no power, let's see how he would do as DH)

Bench
Util: Eli Holden (mostly used as a pinch runner for his insane speed, not much of a hitter)
Util: Tony Lyons ( will be used as a pinch hitte, for being the best of the four bench players at hitting)
IF: Russell Owen (a defensive player, will be used in case of injured players)
OF: Angus Perkins (same as Russel Owen)

Rotation
RHP: Dotson Mathis ( all around pitcher, 94-98 mph fastball, 79-82 mph slider, 72-76 mph curveball, and a 88-91 mph sinker)
RHP: Warren Pearl (velocity pitcher, 96-100 mph four seam, 94-98 mph two seam, 89-92 mph slider, 85-88 mph changeup)
RHP: Chester Mckinney (control/groundball pitcher, Mason Mckinney's brother, 89-92 mph fastball, 72-76 mph slider, 83-86 mph cutter, 49-51 mph eephus that he surprises people with)
LHP: Justin Cross (Groundball pitcher, (88-90 mph fastball, 81-85 mph slider, 69-76 mph 12-6 curveball, 84-86 mph split finger)
LHP: Khalid Pearson (velocity pitcher, 96-98 mph fastball, 86-89 mph slider, 81-90 mph vulcan changeup, 9-94 mph cutter)

Bullpen
RHP: Kyle Flynn (clutch closer, 92-94 mph fastball, 80-82 mph slider, 85-88 MPH cutter)
LHP: Tom Hunter ( Mid-relief pitcher, 94-96 mph fastball, 82-84 mph slider, 79-88 mph changeup)
RHP: Jamal Meadows (Mid relief pitcher, 88-90 mph fastball, 77-81 mph slider, 84- 87 mph cutter)
LHP: Jared Moody (setup, 98-100 mph fastball, 89-92 mph slider, 93-96 mph two seam)
LHP: Zac Krueger (setup, 88-92 mph fastball, 69-77 mph curveball, 80-85 mph split finger)

Coaches
Head: Eliza Patrick 22(Took the place of the previous manager after he left for the national team, Eliza is the first female head coach from Falisiand to coach a junior national team, she is the head coach of River University)
Hitting: Berthel Arlen 42 years old (Now with IBS experience, he's gonna try his best in this tournament)
Pitching: Solomon Noble 36 (He recently had a breakthrough season with the University of Clutchington)

Stadium: On the coast of Falisiand, Sealion Park, 21,163 capacity

ABANHFLEFT REVOLUTION
Abanhfleft men's national baseball team

If Abanhfleft's best can't even win a damn Baseball Slam, what hope do a bunch of retired players have? None, that's what. And now this bunch of oldies is being called back for another shot. Can't the SBA just let these guys stay retired in peace?

STAFF
Why get an all-new staff for what is most probably a one-off event? Yes, the IBS has a long and quaint history behind it, but the fact remains that it's only been resurrected now. And the old-timers have been told that they're doing this for fun, so why worry about getting more coaches than the Samahang Beisbol ng Abanhfleft can afford?

The Oceanview Park in Port Rhovanyon, time for the group draw of the International Baseball Slam XII. Walter Bismuth and South Newlandia's president of the baseball association, Robert Wahlja, are standing in the middle of the infield while it is rain. Mr. Wahlja at least had the idea of bringing an umbrella while Walter is standing right in the downpour. A table can be seen in front of them with four bowls with balls while to the side there is an old-fashioned corkboard.

Walter Bismuth: Good morning, good day, good evening, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the group draw for the International Baseball Slam XII, live from the Oceanview Park in Port Rhovanyon. I will admit that if we had paid more attention to the weather forecast we might not have chosen an open air location, but oh well, what's the worst thing that can happen, right? A little rain has never hurt anybody. Oh, I'm Walter Bismuth, some of you might know me from Tikariot Sports+, and today I will--AAH! Who are you and what are you doing here??

Robert Wahlja: Good morning, I am Robert Wahlja, president of the South Newlandian Baseball Association. I am also here for the draw. We are in this together, you could say that.

Walter Bismuth: If you say so, son.

Robert does neither look happy about having to be out here in the pouring rain nor with Walter's somewhat let's call it eccentric demeanour.

Robert Wahlja: We will begin with pot one. As announced, the Tikariot U21s will be playing automatically in Group A, while the South Newlandian U22s will be joining Group E. Do, do we have a graphic for the pots, by any chance?

Evidently expecting a nice graphic for the occasion, Walter drags the soggy corkboard into view. Robert sticks the little papers with the team names onto the corkboard as he draws them and then hands things over to Walter.

Walter Bismuth: So for Group A we have the Daskel U18 Junior Daskies!

He unfolds the next paper, squinting at it hard.

Walter Bismuth: Group B shall welcome the Inner Iguana, no, Agi-- what is this? AgibananaUsortitout Lions?

Robert Wahlja: I believe its the Inner AginanaUsordia Lions.

After the last team from pot 4 has been stuck to the corkboard, Walter motions for Robert to wait.

Walter Bismuth: And finally we have the St. Margaret Rubber Chickens going into Group F!

Robert Wahlja: No, Walter, only five groups. Six was two years ago.

Walter Bismuth: Oh, really?

Robert Wahlja: Yup. A through E.

Walter looks at the South Newlandian with a deadpan look as Robert empties out some water from the remaining bowls. Finally the last team is drawn and Robert waste no time to make a run for drier areas. Walter pulls the corkboard closer, with some of the slips of paper are already falling off while others have the ink smear.

Walter Bismuth: So in Group A we have, uh, one moment. Hey, where are you going?

The cameraman has turned around and is walking off the pitch to get out of the rain.

Walter Bismuth: I am not done yet!

Cut to somewhere in the catacombs of Northland Park in Fort Viljan, where the first game of the International Baseball Slam XII will be taking place against the Abanhfleft Revolution All-Stars. Some low mumbling can be heard from afar, coming closer. The cameraman moves forward towards the closest corner and almost runs into Walter Bismuth, who has a thick stack of papers and notes in his hand, completely oblivious to what is going on around him, walking - somewhere.

Walter Bismuth: A bank is left. Why do they have to make these names so hard and what is with people's obsession with bananas... Aban-hflrft. Aban has left. What? He left? What's going to happen to the game if he doesn't come back?

He keeps walking, losing little notes left and right as the cameraman decides to follow Walter.

Walter Bismuth: OK, let's go over this again. Tikariot's second time at an International Baseball Slam, won the first one in Super-Bananaland - bananas again? Good God! Now they are hosting it with South Newlandia. Good, no bananas there! But what? Elephants? Bananas, iguanas, elephants, snowy owls, this is a zoo!

After almost running over a caterer with a tray of sandwiches and narrowly avoiding a group of Tikariotian players he pushes through another door, leading to yet another long, sparsely lighted corridor.

Walter Bismuth: Alright, good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the International Baseball Slam XII in Tikariot and New Southlandia. Oh yes, that sounds good! Tonight we will celebrate the occasion with a series of games against the Abanhfnpft - Abandonleft - against the Revolution All Stars and what a treat this should be! Where is that studio? I was sure it was around here somewhere!

After briefly looking left and right and losing another few sheets of paper, he pushes through another door that closes behind him. The cameraman moves to the window in the door, showing Walter standing outside of the stadium. He looks around in apparent confusion, then turns around and tries to open the door again, which has locked. With panic setting in, he drops his notes and begins to bang on the doors.

Walter Bismuth: LET ME IIIIN!!

Roleplay prompt for matchday one: How do people in your country think about the IBS? Do they even know it exists? What is the general feeling about the tournament, what are the expectations? (As a reminder, following the prompts or not doesn't affect your RP Bonus, they are merely meant as guidance for some newer users (even though there aren't actually any here))

Results for groups D and E will follow shortly, Tikariot is experiencing some technical difficulties. Rumours have it that Margaret tripped over some wires and pulled them out of the socket. Our technicians are working on it.

And the technicians won the battle (thanks to Northwest Kalactin's magic touch!)

Disclaimer: For this match day South Newlandia did the scorination due to the technical issues. The integrity of the results has in no way been compromised!

"Welcome to Martha's Carrier Pigeon Emporium! How may I help you today?"

"Yeah, uh...I have this interview offer I'd like to send to someone."

"...and you want to do this via carrier pigeon?"

"It's the only way I can contact them."

"...Sure. Anyways, I'll take that note - you might want to make a copy of it, by the way - and which of our locations would you like to send it to?"

"Oh, uh...do you know where Buck Fuchs is?"

"I'm assuming that's a name...? And no. We only deliver to a select number of locations in New Llama City and the outlying suburbs, as those are the only places our pigeons are familiar with."

"Ah, uh, I thought you might just take an address or something, like the mail."

"Why do you think we have mail now? Carrier pigeons can't just fly to an address like a mailman. Especially if that 'dadress' is just the words 'Buck Fuchs' scrawled on a business card. Who do you th-" As if on cue, one of Martha's pigeons burst forward from its cage, snatched the letter in its beak, and flew out the ajar door.

"Uhhhh...I'll come back in a week, I guess?" the LBA official offered lamely. A stunned Martha merely nodded as he took his leave. Improbably, he got his reply in just a day and a half - either Buck Fuchs lived very close nearby, or the mere mention of his name inspired birds to fly faster than they ever had before. It was ten words, scrawled on a long-yellwed scrap of paper by what appeared to be a quill.

send me a job offer or don't waste my time

"...what a nut, huh?" Offered Martha.

"I'd like to send another letter, please. Same destination." In his defense, the job market for an International Baseball Slam U11 coach was incredibly quiet.
